Becoming A Purple People Eater……….
Goodbye to the Blue Belt and Hello to the Responsibility……..
Tumblr media
On December 9. 2023, it happened. The moment I dreamed of and the moment I feared all at once. Class was over and they sent us to sit. There’s anticipation in the air. Everyone is wondering why we are being directed to sit. This is jiu jitsu after all and promotions tend to come in seasons. My time had already come in September, I received my third stripe on my blue belt. I was happy as could be with that particular stripe because I know they judge harshly at my gym nothing is given, everything earned. I learned this the hard way being wondering aloud if my third stripe on my belt is the result of nepotism. When I made this statement on my blog I was told, with no hesitation or confusion, that I was not above the art. That my professor/ great friend does not care about my feelings above the art. That nothing was ever given without being earned that he wouldn’t tarnish the brand of the gym or the art itself to protect my feelings from how badly I suck. So, with that said I wasn’t due in my opinion.
Now when promotions are announced there is always an air of, who’s due? Who’s ready? And, this guy is long overdue. I love promotion day. Not because of me improving or expecting a promotion. I secretly enjoy being undervalued. I like sandbagging. I like being undersold. I like underselling and over delivering. I love to see promotions because I feel like in the gym on those mats is the only place where hard work is actually acknowledged, where putting in the work is a real thing. Where someone comes to test them against genuine resistance and see where they are. They are hard fought and rarely are they given without them being truly deserving.
Tumblr media
With all of this said I was not overdue. I was not ready. I wasn’t not “sandbagging,” I was a decent blue belt. Now when someone gets promoted a bit early like myself they often say, “they will grow into the belt.” Well, I’m in my growing phase. This belt has a lot of stigma to it if the YouTube videos I watch are to be believed. The clichés you hear are this, “this is the first advanced belt,” “a modern-day purple belt is as good as a 1990s black belt because the game has expanded so much,’ or my favorite cliché, which is, “if the professor gives you a purple belt that means he believes one day you will receive your black belt.” Well if those things are to be believed then I am feeling the pressure. There’s level to this game. Some purple belts can consistently submit black belts when they are elite at some aspect of their game, let’s say something like leglocks. Some purple belts compete frequently and are superior athletes. Then there’s me chubby 40-year dad of 2 with a job who works a lot of overtime. I also have an ego. I like to win and do well as much as anyone. So, there is that desire and drive to improve because for once something is actually expected of me. Here’s what my best is for what happened……
Tumblr media
I went on a jiu jitsu retreat by a miracle. Someone couldn’t make it and I was allowed to take their spot. It was an incredible experience. I did miss my family but the trip was unbelievably worth it. Amazing food, people and experiences so much wildlife. Most importantly while I was there I got to experience rolling with my professor for the first time. It went exactly as expected. He destroyed me with such ease it felt like we weren’t doing the same martial art. I was dying and he was relaxed just moving and playing. I have no idea what he saw during that roll. I have no idea what he saw in me upon return from Costa Rica either but he felt I was working and decided it was time. How in the hell am I going to question him? I am unworthy of questioning his judgment at all so here I am with the weight of his decision looking into the future, hoping to never disappoint him. That’s the pressure or purple and role I have as a 40-year old.
Tumblr media
Then there’s the role I love, the teacher. I love when I understand something really well and can explain it proficiently. Now, I have no illusions of owning a school one day. I don’t plan on being a legendary competitor that began in his 40s somehow. I don’t have a wrestling background no matter how much I wish I did. No judo and I’m not Brazilian. My whole goal is to one day be good enough to teach. That’s it. Nothing more nothing less. I’m returning from injury and being out for 6 weeks. So, here I am returning to the mats after a hiatus ready to get after it. Looking to get better, looking to not be someone’s rest round, looking to be worthy of the belt. Brown is off in the distance, I am not in any rush. So, let’s lift up our glasses and toast to purple.

Modern AU Gaang Martial Arts Headcanons :) 🥋
Zuko:
He and Azula were forced into both Judo and Karate from a young age. Zuko constantly got frustrated with his katas and that his technique wasn’t perfect, while Azula was always angry that people didn’t want to spar with her because she was so aggressive. Despite their challenges (which included both of them breaking people’s bones by accidents), they both reached first-degree black belt. Zuko stopped attending when he moved in with Iroh, but Azula is a third-degree black belt.
Toph:
She likes more physical arts, especially boxing and wrestling. She dabbled in taekwondo but the speed wasn’t her forte so she decided to go into boxing instead, and from there, she joined the school’s wrestling team and does BJJ on her own time. She’s gotten in trouble many, many times because she doesn’t care much for rules, and has a clean WR rate of 84-3. Like Azula, most people are too scared to spar her, but she isn’t as frustrated about it.
Sokka:
His first experience in martial arts was from a crappy mall studio where he went because his parents wanted him to learn self-defence. He was a big Karate Kid watcher when he was young, and tried lots of martial arts, though was the best at taekwondo. As he got older, he didn’t have much interest in it, and just had his dad teach him techniques at home rather than attend a school. Toph always insists on sparring him, and he agreed once, but it left him bruised for weeks, so he doesn’t dabble in it much.
Katara:
While originally not much of a fan, she was raised the same as Sokka: take martial arts to learn how to defend yourself. While he liked the fighting, she was more of a fan of the technique, like her mother was. When her mom passed, it only magnified the choice, and she kept at Karate for a few years while Sokka only dabbled. She got to brown belt before her dojo was shut down and, combined with the other stresses of life, she took a break. She still loves martial arts, though, and watches lots of videos about them.
Aang:
He took a lot of Tibetan White Crane and tried a few other Chinese martial arts. He is skilled with the bo staff, too, and once he and Zuko became friends, they practised a lot of weapon sparring together. Aang’s marital arts practice involved a lot of conditioning, so he can do an impressively high amount of knuckle push-ups. He was taught mainly defence, which especially part of the reason he rarely won fights against Zuko, because he was often too afraid to attack, though that’s more of him being a pacifist than his martial art background.
Suki:
While she mainly performed Aikido and Kendo, Tessenjutsu had always been her favourite. She has extremely fast reflexes from so much practice. Additionally, she started a martial arts club in her school and met Sokka through there. She was like a mix of Katara and Sokka, enjoying the fighting and cultural aspects equally. When she went to college, it was harder to find a place to train especially with such a packed schedule, but she makes time for it.

I’ve been a brown belt in Judo
Since 2011 and I’m finally in the process of going for my shodan this year. It’s been a long road with twists and turns but I’m excited to test and start teaching judo at the BJJ school I work at!
What’s the longest you’ve stayed at a belt? Are belts out dated?

Work hard, play harder
It was a little after midnight at the company party. Justin, alongside his coworkers Eric and Mick, were the last three to stay behind. Justin was the youngest, and also the latest addition to the office out of the three. Like any other new employees, he was a little timid, and struggling to adapt to the new environment. However, he was lucky that he soon had not one, but two senior workers behind his back. Sure, Eric and Mick might be slightly more enthusiastic than those he had worked with before, but for him anything that makes life easier counts.
After the bar closed down for the night, the three men retreated to a hotel room booked by the firm for those who did not wish to drive home after a long evening of drinking. There was a rather large city view room with a king sized bed. Mick opened his secret bottle of whiskey and the men continued drinking. Justin was never a fan of heavy liquor, but that whiskey was god-damn smooth. He ended up finishing the whole thing nearly by himself, while the other two were just looking at him smiling. Around 2 a.m. the men started to feel the effect of the alcohol kicking in. Eric tried to cool down by loosening his tie and kicking off his Oxford shoes, revealing a moist and steamy sheer OTC with gold toe. Mick followed suit and took off his footwear, showing off his ribbed black socks. The men sat next to each other on the couch with their feet on the coffee table. Justin, leaning against the bed frame across the table, felt a little intimidated, yet fascinated by his seniors’ huge feet. However, the alcohol had made all of his inhibition disappeared, as he stood up and joined the other men on to the couch, in the middle.
“We should play something…”, said the junior salesman as he looked at Mick and Eric. At that moment, Justin’s head was already spinning as if he was riding on a merry-go-round, with his colleagues’ wiggling socked feet floating around him. He barely noticed the grin on the face of his colleagues.
“Sure, why not? What game should we play?”, said Mick.
“I’ve got an idea,” said Eric, “I could teach you guys some cool moves from the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class I have been taking. It’s completely safe, according to my instructor…”
“Do me!”. Justin just blurted out of his drunken mouth. He was so excited that now he got to bond with those he had been looking up to.
“Ok, then. Come here”, said Eric as he signaled Justin to lay out on the couch, leaning against him. Eric loosened Justin’s tie and unbuttoned his dress shirt to make him feel more comfortable, and to make sure that his younger coworker could breathe when the demo was finished. Eric rubbed his hand around the young man’s pectorals to relax him. On the other side, Mick was doing his part by taking off Justin’s shoes and massaging his feet. The scent of the salesman’s black acrylic crew strangely aroused Mick, whose hands now crawled up Justin’s pants and fiddled the leg hairs around the cuff of his socks.
“You should be able to wake up after 10 seconds or so”, said the BJJ brown belt Eric. He then locked Justin’s head with his arm and applied a rear naked choke on his junior colleague. The pressure of the grip increased, and Justin’s crotch area also also begun to tighten, as he started flashing back to the summer where he had lost to a sleeper hold by his cousin during a race to the last popsicle at their grandparents’ house. Noticing the growing bulge inside Justin’s pants, Mick unfastened his belt and pulled down both his pants and  black boxer brief. As soon as his bird was free from the cage, Justin’s eyes rolled to the back of his head and the lack of oxygen to his brain in combination with alcohol in his blood knocked him out cold completely for the rest of the night.
The next morning, Justin woke up with a pounding headache. He had drunk hard a few occasions in his life, but this time the aftermath felt slightly… different. He rubbed his eyes and realized that he was lying on a hotel bed, and as he lifted up the cover, he noticed that he was completely undressed to only his black crew socks. It felt sticky down there, both his cock and butt crack. There was also a rather unusual taste in his mouth, sweat but slightly fishy. He looked around to find his cell phone; even though it was already weekend, he was worried that he might be late for work, as a reflex. When he turned on the phone, his lock screen had been changed to another picture - the picture from the previous night, of the three colleagues on a blackout-drinking night-out:
Tumblr media
Checking his message box, Justin found only one new, from last night:
“Thx for the wonderful night. Welcome to the club. Eric. P/s Don’t worry, our socks were on the whole time so it wasn’t gay”

Update, 16 weeks of training.
in the no gi class I did fairly well, we rolled 5 times and I managed to only get tapped three times and tap people four times, (though I did tap one new guy three times) i did still manage to move fairly well with a purple belt a blue belt and a brown belt (only got tapped once each) and I was able to obtain a maintain mount fairly effectively and use the ‘just stand up’ approach of turtling to get out of trouble, though I haven’t actually been doing much standing up, but still people seem to be having a harder time finishing me from strong positions, such as back control or front headlock positions, I think effectively I’m putting myself in less bad back control and front headlocks by using turtle well, because I notice I’m never really fully controlled by anyone on my back and I do a good job now if defending my neck from people, though they are able to get around my chin or jaw, which could become a problem, also I managed to do a good job escaping a lot of kimura type attacks, so all in all I seem to have defensively been improving fairly well.
Did my first kick-boxing class, and it was absolutely amazing, I borrowed some gloves and shin guards of course, but everyone was really helpful and it felt both so odd and so right, managing range was super difficult and confusing and I learnt I can’t block body shots for shit, but when I did land in say the light sparring I felt so good and it was so enjoyable, also I think I’m going to be improving rather quickly with it too, because I was doing decent in just my first class and also I can practice a lot more at home then I can with bjj cause shadow boxing and bag work are super useful and important plus my athleticism is quite useful more so then it is in bjj.

I changed it a bit, hope you liked it
Professor Diaz
Tumblr media
* English is not my first language I apologise
* Triggers: Swearing, fluff, bit of smut teasing
Y/N POV
My best friend Zack wanted to go to a bjj seminar from Nick Diaz but he didn’t wanted to go alone, so I joined him. He is a brown belt I’m just a blue belt, he has way more free time than I do. “Y/N, I’m very happy you wanted to come with.” Zack says as he parked his car. “No problem.” I gave him a smile and got out of the car. He grabbed our bags and walked to the large building in front of us. “Nervous?” I asked as he handed over my bag. “Little bit…you?” “Yeah me too.” We both entered the building. A young woman sat behind desk, smiling friendly at us. “Hello, welcome.” Zack walked up. “Hey, we are here for Professor Diaz seminar.” She smiles and placed a paper in front of him. “Search your name and sign in please.” We both searched our names and signed in. “Thank, have fun.” “Thank you.” We both walked further, in the direction of the locker rooms. “I’ll see ya in a bit, wait for me okay?” “I will.” We both went our own way. ‘It will be fine…’
Zack and I were standing next to each other, waiting for professor Diaz to enter the room. “I hope I’m not to awkward.” Zack quietly chuckles. “You y/n are never awkward, everyone finds you just adorable.” I rolled my eyes at him. “It’s true…” the door opens and everyone became quiet. Nick Diaz walked in with some other black belts. “Good morning everyone.” “Good morning professor Diaz.” Everyone said back in choir. He flashes us a quick smile and started his seminar.
I was practicing with Zack as Nick walked by, watching us. Zack was good too good for me and a little bit to prideful, meaning that I never got the chance to practice a bit. He pushed me down and immediately got me again. I quickly tapped out. “Again.” I mumbled. Zack sits right back up, smiling at me. I was starting to irritated and demotivated because of this. Nick clearly saw it and stepped in. “I think you guys should rotate.” We both looked up to him. He pointed at Zack. “I have a great sparring partner for you… Rick?” An other brown belt walked up. “Can you spar with…” “Zack, professor.” “With Zack.” Rick nodded. “Of course, come.” Zack looked at me and smiles. “See ya.” He joked and went with Rick. Nick sat down in front of me. “Okay, Let’s practice.” I felt nervous and nodded at him. I moved closer to him and grabbed his shoulders, moving up and trying to submit him, he of course threw a defensive, getting me in a submission. I tapped out on his arm. He immediately released me and sits right back up. “Okay, let’s practice this more slower..okay?” I nodded and did the moves slower, he pushed and pulled my legs and arms around to perfect my movements. “Do it like that and your opponent has a difficult time.” He said as I sat down in his lap. “Okay.” He flashes me a smile. “You’re doing good, you just need a sparing partner who’s letting you try out these moves.” I nodded at him, feeling a bit to close to him. “Let’s try again.”
Nick and I were practicing till I had it. He taught me the moves, let me practice around with him and most important I learned from it. “Okay, that’s really good y/n.” He pats my shoulder and stands up and calls everyone back to the centre. “Okay, listen up. We go for the next move… Zack come here please.” Zack walked up. Nick showed us a move, telling us everything, what’s he’s doing, what Zack could do and how to prevent it. During this teaching period, Nick looked a few time directly at me. I started to get a bit shy and tried to focus on Zack. “Okay, everyone understands what I just told you guys?” He looked at me and I nodded. “Alright, get a partner and practice both ways.” Zack immediately walked over to me. “Let’s do this together.” I saw Nick looking at us with a jealous look on his face but he didn’t say anything to us as we started to practice the new moves.
I was tired after this seminar. Zack on the other hand wasn’t. “That was so cool.” We both walked up to the desk, signing us out again. “Hello guys, did you had fun?” Zack smiled at the lady. “Of course, thank you for asking.” I rolled my eyes and looked away as Zack started to flirt with her. ‘Come on Zack, I’m tired I want to go home.’ A door opened and Nick walked out, he was wearing a black hoodie, some jeans and his bag hang loosely around his right shoulder. He saw me and walked over to me. “Hey y/n right?” I nodded. “I hoped you liked my seminar today even tho you were the only blue belt today..” he was rubbing his neck, looking a bit nervous. “I did, I’m tired but I liked it.” He smiles at me. “I hope I see you again soon.” I shyly smiled at him. “I hope so too professor.” He smiles and he opened his mouth to say something but Zack turned around and interrupted him. “Shall we go, I signed us out.” Zack saw Nick and smiled. “Ahh professor, thank you for the informative seminar, I really liked it.” Nick just nodded, not looking very pleased with him. “No problem Zack. I hope you both learned from it.” I nodded. “Of course we did, right y/n.” They both looked at me. “Yes we did.” Zack smiles proudly. “Well it was nice to talk to you professor but I think we need to go.” Nick nodded and flashed me a quick smile. “Thank you for coming, maybe I see you next time.” “Thank you, bye bye.” Zack said and literally pulled me away. “I’m hungry, let’s move you’re ass.” Zack says to me as I shyly waved goodbye to Nick, who was standing there in the hallway looking at us with a tiny smile on his face.
—— second seminar——
I gave myself up for a second seminar, this time without Zack…he had a date with the young lady from last time. I was in the room, waiting with a few others for professor Diaz. ‘I hope he doesn’t think I’m weird, nahh he probably doesn’t remember me anyway.’ The door opened and he walks in with a few others. He looked a bit different, his hair was a bit longer, more curlier. “Good morning everyone.” “Good morning professor Diaz.” His eyes fell on me and they lighted up. “Let’s start this seminar, Rick please join me for this one.” His eyes never left me.
Nick was walking around, helping and teaching everyone. I was sparring with a other blue belt. I had him and he tapped out. “Good job y/n, frank you need to close your distance to her, you give her to much space.” Nick stood at our feet, looking down at us. “Thank you professor.” Nick nods and moves further. Frank and I started all over again…as Nick secretly watching us.
Nick POV
‘She’s a fast learner , she just need a good sparring partner.’ I walked around the room but my eyes moved slowly back to her. ‘You’re crazy! She a student of you now.’ I looked away from her, trying to help the others. ‘Maybe she likes to train with you, our bodies so close against each other…’ I shook my head. ‘Stop fantasising about her.’ “Okay, good job.” They all stopped and looked at me. “Let’s come back here for the next one.” They all stood up and walked over to me. She looked shy as she joined us. ‘Don’t pick her, it makes her uncomfortable.’ “Frank, come here please.” He walks over and I started to teach them a new practice lesson.
Y/n had no partner as frank injured himself. “You want to practice?” I asked her. “Yes please.” ‘Don’t play with me…’ I nodded and sat down. “Shall I start?” She nods and I started. She was listening as I was talking my way through the moves. “So when you do this, I shall do this?” She grabbed my bicep and slightly pulled me. “Yes, just like that.” She smiles as we were standing dangerously close. My eyes flickered from her eyes to her lips and back. She blushed and looked away. “But it’s not perfect because I can still do this.” I did one move and got her back close against my chest, holding her in a guillotine. She gently taps my arm. I released her out of my grip. “Okay that’s fair.” She mumbles. I looked at the time and my heart sank, it’s already time to stop. “Can you help me with cleaning up the room, it’s already time.” She nods. “Of course professor Diaz.” ‘The way she says it is so beautiful.’ I smiled and called everyone over. “Okay, thank you all for joining me today on this seminar…”
Y/N POV
Nick ended the seminar and asked me if I could help him with cleaning the room. “Here.” He gave me a mop. He had one himself as well. “Thank you.” I grabbed the mop and started in the back. “You’re doing very good, you are improving your skills.” I blushed and smiled to myself. “Thank you.” “You’re welcome.” I bite down on my lip and smiled. ‘He’s so cute.’ “If you want I can help you to improve yourself. I also give private lessons.” My heart skipped a beat. ‘Private lessons from him…yes!’ I turned around and saw he was already looking at me. “Only if you want..” “I love the idea to follow more lessons from you but I rarely have the time for it….” He nods and walks over. “I’m sure we can find a way.” He stood dangerously close, looking a bit down on me as he was a bit taller than I am. He was sweaty, the jacket he wore was a bit more open than normally, there was no a shirt underneath it so I could see His chest was covered in sweat, just like his face and hair. I was checking him out without even noticing myself. He large hand carefully went to my face, pushing my face a bit up by my chin. My eyes met his and he smiles. “Can I ask you out for some lunch?” “Yes you can.” He smiles as his thumb caressed softly my chin. “Would you like to eat some lunch with me today?” I nodded and smiled shyly at him. “I would love to.” He smiles at me. “Then let’s clean this room up.”

Igor Tanabe vs Melvin Manhoef - INOKI BOM-BA-YE × Ganryujima in Ryogoku
Igor Tanabe (2-0) was a standout competitor on the BJJ scene as a colored belt, having won a world title at the purple belt level and placing at several tournaments at the brown belt level. He also won the IBJJF All Japan championship in 2020/2021. Point being, is the 23 year old is a BJJ ace. And he's been making the move to MMA. In true JMMA fashion he won his debut in 2023 and was instantly thrown into a fight with a guy who has 45+ more pro fights than him. But he beat Manhoef and might have a future as a middleweight or welterweight yet.
Tanabe will be part of the Super RIZIN 2 card this Sunday (July 30) when he faces off with another veteran, Daichi Abe (12-6).

Cara Melakukan Inside Heel Hook: Kuncian Paling Seram Di BJJ
Walaupun demikian, menurut gua penting…

Finding the Perfect Judo Gi - A Comprehensive Guide
Introduction
When it comes to practicing martial arts, having the right gear is essential. For judo enthusiasts, a high-quality gi is a must-have. In this article, we'll delve into the world of judo gis, with a special focus on brown judo gis, and explore where you can find the best deals, like the ones available during a jiu jitsu gi sale. Whether you're a seasoned judoka or a beginner looking to start your journey, understanding the importance of elite apparel and knowing where to find it is crucial.
Tumblr media
The Judo Gi: A Martial Arts Essential
The judo gi, also known as a judo uniform, is more than just clothing for martial artists; it's a symbol of tradition, respect, and discipline. Comprising a jacket, pants, and a belt, the judo gi is designed to withstand the rigors of training and competition while allowing freedom of movement. A well-made gi not only enhances performance but also provides a sense of pride to those who wear it.
Brown Judo Gi: A Unique Choice
While white and blue gis are the most common colors in judo, a brown judo gi stands out as a unique choice. It signifies a higher level of expertise and experience in the martial art. Brown judo gis are often worn by black belt holders and advanced practitioners, showcasing their dedication and mastery of judo techniques.
If you're considering adding a brown judo gi to your martial arts wardrobe, you'll want to make sure you choose one that meets your specific needs. Look for gis that are made from durable, high-quality materials and provide a comfortable fit. Bravo BJJ offers a wide range of Brown judo gis, a trusted source for martial arts apparel.
Tumblr media
The Importance of Quality Gi
Investing in a quality judo gi is paramount for any practitioner. A well-constructed gi not only enhances your performance but also ensures your safety during training and competition. Here are some key factors to consider when choosing a judo gi:
Fabric
The fabric of your gi is crucial. Cotton is the most popular choice due to its durability, breathability, and comfort. Look for gis made from high-quality cotton to ensure longevity.
Stitching
Quality stitching is a must to withstand the wear and tear of training. Reinforced stitching in stress-prone areas like the seams and collar ensures that your gi remains intact.
Fit
A proper fit is essential for ease of movement and comfort. Check the sizing chart provided by the manufacturer to find the right size for your body type.
Design
While aesthetics may not be the top priority, the design of your gi can still reflect your personal style. Brown judo gis, in particular, exudes a sense of sophistication and expertise.
Brand Reputation
Choosing a reputable brand is essential for guaranteeing the quality of your gi. Bravo offers a selection of top-notch judo gis, including brown gis, that are trusted by martial artists worldwide.
Finding the Best Deals: Jiu Jitsu Gi Sale
Budget-conscious martial artists are always on the lookout for great deals, and a jiu jitsu gi sale can be a golden opportunity to save on elite apparel. While jiu jitsu and judo are distinct martial arts, their uniforms share similarities, making a jiu jitsu gi suitable for judo practice as well.
If you're in search of a high-quality judo gi, Trusted brand like Bravo BJJ offers a  Jiu jitsu gi sale. Many reputable martial arts stores, including this one, often include judo gis in their sales promotions. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire elite apparel at discounted prices.
Tumblr media
Elite Apparel for Discerning Practitioners
Elite apparel isn't just about looking good; it's about performing at your best. When it comes to martial arts, the right gear can make a significant difference in your training and competition outcomes. Here's why elite apparel matters:
Durability
Elite apparel is built to last. Reinforced seams, top-quality materials, and superior craftsmanship ensure that your gi can withstand the demands of rigorous training and competition.
Performance
The right gi can enhance your performance by providing the freedom of movement you need to execute techniques effectively. Ill-fitting or low-quality gis can hinder your progress.
Confidence
Wearing elite apparel can boost your confidence on the mats. When you look and feel your best, you're more likely to perform at your peak.
