Today’s world is a difficult one. It is becoming evermore digital and can be all the lonelier for it. And with it can come anxiety in abundance. But we have someone who we think might be able to help: Jasmine Marie, CEO and Founder of black girls breathing®, who is here to explore the many big questions in this strange new world.
We will be partnering with @blackgirlsbreathing, a safe space for Black women and girls to manage their mental health and reflect on and heal their trauma through breathwork and community. They aim to offer free and accessible mental health resources to one million Black women and girls by 2025.
COVID-19 harmed us in more ways than one, and some more than others. It widened the gap of accessible mental health resources available to Black and Brown communities at the same time many in these same groups were experiencing isolation, compacted grief, and depression. Jasmine’s work is focused on providing preventative tools to combat a taxed nervous system, and black girls breathing® is here to provide free and accessible mental health resources to Black women and girls by offering not just breathwork, but a community. Why awareness is so underrated and is the answer to your problems. 
If you’re on the healing journey you would've read a million times to just feel your emotions, ‘just feel what’s coming up’ as if it is really that simple when you have a raging mind that’s sabotaging the crap out of you. Awareness allows you (overtime) to disconnect from the story in your mind, those old broken thoughts that are keeping you stuck. Awareness allows you to sit with your mind and just observe what’s coming up without reacting and neutralise your thoughts and feelings. Awareness allows the space to accept how you feel and allow the feelings to come up and release from you without being reactive. 
So how do you get aware? You use the little timer on your phone and you sit in silence. Start with one minute and build up to 20 mins overtime. The practise is simple, for that 1 minute you focus on your breathing, get distracted by your thoughts, and once you realise you’re not breathing, you bring your focus back to the breathe. This sounds so simple and even might sound pointless but what you’re actually doing is training your mind to disconnect from the negative thoughts, any thoughts in fact and let go (using the breathe as the anchor). The more you do this, the more you’re training your brain throughout the day to let go of your sabotaging mind, and auto pilot thinking. Awareness is freedom, and its soooo overlooked. Overtime when your old thoughts return, you’ll be able to let them go, because you've been practising this daily. It really is that simple.
