[ID: 13 gifs from season 3, episode 1 “the search, part 1” from the tv series “star trek: deep space nine”, the gifs show benjamin sisko and jadzia dax in the wardroom. jadzia is seated while sisko is standing in front of a monitor.
1st gif: “you know, after jennifer died, i never thought i would see you this passionate about something again.” jadzia tells sisko.
2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th gif: the camera shifts to sisko, who has his arms are crossed in front of him and takes a couple of steps forward, the camera moves with him, “two months ago, i would have agreed with you.” he takes a seat, and the camera focuses on him. “then i went back to earth and i spent all those weeks debriefing at starfleet headquarters. and i… i used to get a thrill just walking into that building. i'd look around at the admirals and think, "one day, that's going to be me." "one day, i'm the one that's going to be making the big decisions."” sisko is slightly smiling at the end.
7th gif: jadzia laughs as she recalls, “curzon always thought that was very funny.”
8th, 9th gif: the camera cuts to sisko, “did he?” then back to jadzia as she explains, “what i mean is he could never see a set of admiral stars on your collar. he thought that just making the decisions would never satisfy you. you had to implement them – “
10th gif: a shift to show sisko listening to jadzia, “see the results, face the consequences.”
11th gif: “curzon always thought you were the kind of man who had to be in the thick of things -- not behind some desk at headquarters.”
12th gif: “he was a smart old man, wasn't he?” sisko gets up and returns to the monitor.
13th gif: “he'd like to think so.” jadzia confirms. /end ID]

I've seen the first six or so episodes of Discovery now. The best moment for me was when Stamets called Culber "my dear doctor."
It made me really sad, though. I feel so happy for any fans who got that experience without jadedness, but I couldn't help thinking that it could've been Garashir to have that. They should've had it. It was unfair that they didn't. And it makes me incredibly sad that instead of that "dear doctor" moment being just normal for me, like it was for the characters, it was something that I qualify as the best moment in six episodes. It was a thing where I looked back at years of disappointment and regret for other Star Trek characters who didn't get to be queer, where I wanted to cry because it took so damn long, where it healed a little part of me that had been hurt by all that because it finally happened.
I wish I'd been able to see that scene without all the baggage. It wouldn't have been incredible. I would've loved that.

Just watched Mutant Mayhem, here are my thoughts!
Tumblr media
Overall: Yes, very good I suggest everyone watch it when they can or I will break your knees :)
I’m going to end up rambling far too much unless I split this properly, so I’m going to break it down into sections starting from what I believe is most important in a movie.
This post is still going to be a mess ngl
Story: 8/10
The story is actually very good! It was paced very well and ended in a very touching way. No character interactions or plot beats felt forced or cliché, and no forced identity politics which is always a plus.
The action scenes - of course they were amazing. Paired with the stellar animation, each action scene was brilliantly directed and choreographed. The start shows the turtles’ origin story is similar to most of the iterations with its own unique factors - in this case the ooze was created by Baxter Stockman.
The conflict of the plot was well written, the final act was great and ends with a hopeful and satisfying ending (there is a mid credit scene that teases something big for the series though!).
If it’s any consolation, it’s also very friendly to new fans of TMNT - I went with someone who has not seen any TMNT media before and they really liked it and understood it easily.
Characters: 9/10
Needless to say, all the characters were very well done. Despite its run time and large cast, each one feels grounded with their own unique personality.
For starters: the four main boys! They were done brilliantly - Mikey being hopeful and optimistic whilst naturally being empathetic, Raph channeling chaotic good energy with his iconic rage personality not being over the top, Donnie being a geek in the best way possible, and Leo trying to be a good leader and anxious, always looking out for his brothers but not a complete teachers pet. All very likeable, and I can’t wait to see them in the series!
Splinter: probably the best since 2003! Openly caring of his sons and worries a great deal about how humans will perceive them. Has his own trauma from his experience with humans so he tries to protect his sons by isolating them completely, but eventually realises that his own view of humans should not affect his son’s happiness and lets them fulfil their dream of trying to be accepted by humans even if he will never like humanity himself. Peak character development, 10/10.
Villain/s: all of them felt fleshed out and I look forward to seeing them in the series! Posed their own genuine threats with varying levels of morals. Again, all were fleshed out quite well and played a role in the story.
April: honestly, she didn’t have too much in it compared to the others but does play a key role in the final act and the ending itself. An interesting iteration of April, curious to see more of her.
Animation: 10000000/10
It was brilliant. What else can I say? Though inspired by Spider-verse it is its own style which is amazing to look at. It thrives in action scenes and landscapes. Another groundbreaking style that I hope to see influence others.
Music: 8/10
It slaps. Almost all of them I will be playing for the next week or so. The soundtracks really set the mood beautifully, especially the sombre track. Paired with the animation - ugh - chefs kiss
Overall Rating: 8/10
I am usually very very harsh with films, so for me to rate anything above a seven is basically unheard of. Probably my favourite movie of 2023, and my favourite TMNT movie. 2003 only just beats it overall but that’s mostly because I’ve known it for longer - who knows, a few more rewatches and it might overtake.

Returning to Home-Base (pt.2, v.1)
Tumblr media
Pairing: Simon "Ghost" Riley x Reader, & Task Force 141 (+ Laswell)
Summary: You begin to question it all, especially when Simon does not return; yet you have a family around you to support when all the memories come baring down.
Warnings: 1,204 words, death, mourning, panic attack, crying, overall angst yet there is healing by the end.
A/N: decided to flesh out the ending of the last part more in this chapter, here is the more "unhappy" ending; I may have cried while writing this section, ngl. ("more-happy" ending coming soon!).
Masterlist | Taglist | edited.
Returning to Home-Base Series (pt.1) (pt.2, v.1) (pt.2, v.2) you are here
Tumblr media
You opened the door to black boots staring at your face; head hung as you pitifully predicted the words that would echo down the hallway and into the forefront of memories.
Hello Sir/Ma'am, we regret to inform you that your significant other...
Your ears started to ring as your hands began to shake, your body did your best to never hear the next words, already starting to grieve.
Simon Riley had been fatally wounded while on deployment and he has died...
Your eyes blurred, as nausea began to bile up at the back of your throat; choking down tears as your body began to sway in the doorframe, your hand grasping for the knob.
He was a brilliant solider, a respectable man, who held honour and respect in the eyes of many...
Your world was spinning, your heart was shattering against the tiles as your face moved to catch it.
We cannot provide the full...
You could not process the rest of the speech they undoubtedly practiced together on the car-ride here as you felt the cold brush against your cheeks and the world turned black.
--
You wake up moments later in your bed, the officers are gone but you notice Soap is by your bedside holding your hand and giving it a squeeze as he notices your eyes adjust to the afternoon sun hanging in the sky. As you see Gaz with his back turned to you; looking out the window with his shoulders hanging low as he grabs for a chair. John guards the door; looking over the scene- picking at the skin of his hand as his chest rises and falls in an uneven manner. Eyes blinking rapidly.
Tears well in your eyes while viewing the state of them all, your chest growing heavy as your breaths begin to become more shallow, Soap squeezes your hand that bit harder while putting his forehead to your shoulder. You feel his sadness meeting your own as he whispers out condolences to the group that fall on dead ears.
You look over and see Gaz facing you, his hand on the chair now hovering over an all too familiar duffle bag that has you latching on to Soaps frame as you both anchor to each other.
You feel the bed dip as John slides in to the other side and Gaz sits at the foot of the bed holding a silver chair with two tags hanging off the bottom, crushing them between his palms as he breaths deeply and begins to explain how Simon only spoke about you in his final breaths as Joh held your other hands in his, looking up towards the ceiling fan; almost if preparing himself.
He said that he was never sorry for doing what be believed as the better action- and that you would always know and understand this. He told me of the strength that you held within yourself, and your sureness that made him feel protected, feel the release of everything, feel at home with you near.
He takes a deep breath in before continuing as Soap shuffles his body more on to the bed.
He told me that he never meant to be so distant in recent days; he...
Gaz hesitates before continuing,
He was planning on marrying you, yet was worried that if he spoke to you for a moment too long he would have asked you to marry him in the bathroom or gas station before he got the chance to go down on one knee in that park you both went on your first date.
Gaz lightly chuckled at the statement, shaking his head as you heard John and Soap do the same. John spoke next while looking into your eyes with kindness flowing through his irises,
We could all see the light in his eyes as he spoke about you no matter the situation, drunk at the bar, waiting in the hangar, or driving to the next checkpoint. He loves you.
Soap hummed in agreement; his eyes flickering between his partners- and then meeting yours in a silent exchange while passing an object into your palm.
You looked at the shimmer through the blinds as it reflected into your eyes; gleaming joyous in an almost mocking reaction. It was a beautiful ring, simple yet elegant in design just as you had dreamed of.
Slipping it on to your ring finger you held it up to your face and smiled sadly at it, at what could have been and took a deep breath in and out.
You thanked each man individually, leaning over the bed to give a proper hug and then offered to put on a kettle; a much needed distraction to settle with your overwhelming thoughts.
--
Days to weeks and weeks to months, than years; the task force slowly moved themselves in to your apartment as you all helped each other to regain balance.
John would cook breakfast in the morning for the group as the smoke alarm wold go off as Gaz burned the bacon once again, complaining about your stove being too different. Your laughter filled the house as they all stopped and smiled at you- beginning to heal.
You and Soap would go grocery shopping together while making the most horrid dad jokes and skits down the isles. Racing each other to the elevator with bags lining up your arms; enough to feed an army.
Gaz and you would watch reality TV shows together every night, predicting your theories on who would last longer on the show between the two of you in good fun while cooking dinner.
Laswell was coming over a few nights later with her wife for the bi-weekly board games night. This time to celebrate your recent promotion at work; you shake your head- smiling as Gaz paraded the paper around the house and praised the living daylights out of you.
--
Throughout the night as drinks got served and John had his ass handed to him in UNO as Laswell mocked the captain in fake pity while adding her plus four. Your apartment eventually got a noise complaint from the neighbour as Soap threatened to flip the table during monopoly when Gaz refused to give him the last pink tile.
Laswell and John were bright red in the face, doing their best not to laugh and catch the fury from the two squad members while you snapped pictures of the scene and sent them to print in your office.
--
The next morning you hung the new pictures in the hall while dusting off the entrance table; placing the keys in the bowl while moving yet another plant Gaz had added to the apartment. As the pot shifted and dirt fell to the floor, you saw a polaroid underneath of a skull masked figure standing beside you, eyes crinkled in a smile as yours did the same while putting it in the corner of the mirror, above the table before you continued to clean.
Your freshly inked tattoo reflected in the mirror as you put the mens boots in the closet; the rest of the boys smiled down the hallway at your interaction and then rapidly returned to their chores before your head turned their way as you laughed at their antics.

I've come to another realization--
This scene in particular is so important ahem let me do some sort of analysis:
Firstly, Shadow's desperation to stop Sonic right away by exclaiming they're not real. This right here shows us that he empathizes with Sonic by trying to protect him from getting hurt. He understands these are the closest projections to his reality, so he does what he can to keep Sonic at a calm level instead of letting him spiral. We see this too by the way he guides his hand out to Sonic, but pulls back because Shadow has a difficult time expressing his emotions. I've stated before that I see Shadow as autistic. This, to me, kind of adds to that hc of mine. There's actually a lot of scenes in this episode I could pull to make my point ngl. Anyways, that's off topic a bit, but yeah he has a hard time with placing his empathy into comfort. Yet he still knows the right things to say, I believe this is because he's able to place himself in Sonic's view in some sense.
Shadow gets annoyed by Sonic for being stubborn and once again reiterates how Sonic has much more important things to live for. Like his "real" friends, I think Shadow saying this is so significant because it reminds me of his own backstory. He knows how hard it was to promise to save Maria and end up losing her, so he knows how Sonic would feel if he were to die and not be able to keep his promises or vice versa, where he couldn't save anyone else because of his impulsive decisions. The way Shadow becomes so adamant that Sonic needs to focus on those who are real and truly need saving makes me happy because it once again shows his empathetic side. He may not come out and say "I want to save everyone" but the way he expresses his desire to save those around him and to encourage Sonic in doing so as well, is brilliant. It's why he has in the past saved Rouge and other characters of course too. It's why he does sacrifice himself at the end of Sonic Adventure 2. He isn't heartless, he cares deeply and a character doesn't need to say they're a hero to do hero things either. Shadow can be a hero in his own way, but because of his past and because of him teaming up with EGGMAN. He came to be known on the dark team. You know the funny thing though, is that the dark team weren't even bad, they helped those around them, helped Sonic in many ways, I just believe they have different ambitions hence why they are on a separate team. I've always loved that they never considered them as evil. It makes Shadow such a realistic character in a lot of ways, he wants to save those around him, but he doesn't want to gain praise from it.
The fact that Sonic at first pushes Shadow away, but then pauses in realization. It's so good, the dynamic between them is why I'd love to have a game where they just have to work together and you play as both. It'd be interesting to see them write them as something other than rivals, because tbh, they weren't ever the typical rivals to begin with which I love. I think too it'd be such a refresher from all the poorly written Shadow characterization, it'd do justice for him and Sonic in a lot of ways. I also do hope one day that Sega allows us to play as all the characters again but i digress as I ramble on and on.
To go back on topic, they both wish for the same things but have such different mindsets. Sonic needed Shadow in this, because without Shadow, Sonic would be struggling to keep his head straight.

is it almost april. yes. am i letting that stop me. no. the perfect is the enemy of the good!
watched
she must be seeing things - a 1987 indie about a woman who gets obsessively jealous about her girlfriend's past after discovering her collection of photographs of ex-boyfriends; this movie contained one of the most human-feeling love scenes taking place between two characters in an established relationship i have ever seen, and captured the feel of new york city apartments inhabited by the un-rich in a visceral way. it is also a funny movie about how annoying artists are. i am like sincerely curious as to whether jonathan larson, during the years before or while he was developing rent, caught a screening of this (it had its premiere at film forum, where i saw it), because a story of sexual jealousy between a very professional black lesbian lawyer and her irritating yet captivating white bisexual artist girlfriend... did feel a little familiar to me as a person who could still belt out every line of take me or leave me in my sleep, ngl!
poor things - we've discussed this but: Yes. Me. Absolutely. i wanted to live in the world of this movie forever, it could have been four hours long and i NEVER say that shit. one of those where sometimes i see critiques or queries i think are valid and i nod peacefully and think: ah, but it wasn't for that; it was for me, to have a treat. also one of those where people are saying some bonkers ass shit about it all over the place, as we have also discussed; i do genuinely believe that reading it as in any way interested in or convinced it is describing a story of female empowerment is deeply misguided, and that much of the pleasure of the movie comes from the fact that bella doesn't need to be empowered, because she has been lucky enough to be raised as an experiment rather than as a woman, which is a fun sexy provocation that is of course nonsensical if taken literally but incredibly fun for me (the person this movie was for) to sit with for two hours.
office space - i watched this in high school and HAAAATED it, was bored out of my mind, and then every time it came up in conversation, which it did a lot because this is how things were in high school in 2005, i would say i didn't get it and the person i was talking to would say, "you have to watch it twice." i don't think i've ever had an experience with a piece of media where the response to my response was so reliably uniform. anyway yeah this is funnier the second time. stephen root might be our greatest living actor idk
drive-away dolls - YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHH BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITCHHHHHHHH
the heartbreak kid - elaine may's mikey and nicky is one of the most emotionally brutal films i've ever watched, but i think i found this harder to sit through. it's brilliant - i talked about it with a friend who'd seen it sometime earlier who said it was the first movie she could remember seeing that confronted men's fantasies so directly, which is apt - but absolutely excruciating. i never really understood what the film people were talking about when they talked about the use of cuts to build/release tension until the scene at a restaurant where a guy keeps winding himself up to break up with his wife on their honeymoon, and not doing it, and the camera just makes you stay with him until you are begging for relief.
sex, lies & videotape - rewatch with director's commentary. steven soderbergh is definitely on the list of famous people i delusionally believe i could be friends with if the circumstances of life had caused our paths to overlap.
zone of interest - another one that has really Brought Out The Takes, about which i'll just say: no one in this movie is turning a blind eye to what they're doing with the possible exception of the mother, who's happy to join in with some chattily murderous antisemitism but finds the material reality of it too distasteful to stay (in at least one potential reading of a plot point left interestingly ambiguous). personally i thought the film was (1) almost completely disinterested in the question of the banality of evil (2) quite good.
mission: impossible - i talked my friend into going through the series with me and we started off with a double-header; the colors in this movie are sooooooo good. tom cruise at this point has obviously had work done by xenu's finest specialists but revisiting this did remind me that he actually also genuinely always has looked quite young for his age - he's 34 in this but he looks like a baby.
mission: impossible - 2 - i literally can't believe there are people who don't like this movie. grow up
read
monster midway: an uninhibited look at the glittering world of the carny, william lindsay gresham - i guess i don't know what i expected from a nonfiction book about the carnival by the author of nightmare alley, the great american novel, but it definitely wasn't 300 pages about how the carnival is the most special and wonderful place on earth and the people who've given their lives to it are the noblest, boldest, most magical folks you can find. i particularly enjoyed the section on palmistry as cold-reading, which included a long quote from fake psychic about how really most people just need to be told some basic emotional truths and to believe in themselves, so if she can give them that, that's a dollar well spent, which is tbh hard to argue with.
listened
rosie tucker - tiny songs vol. 1 - rosie tucker came onto my radar through one of dave's mixes, which i'm still listening to - her song "all my exes live in vortexes," which opens "i hope no one had to piss in a bottle at work to get me the thing i ordered on the internet," caught my ear - and while i haven't delved further into her discography, i did love this 12-track, 10 minute album (not a typo!), which gives you the sense of someone spitballing an idea for a song just long enough to start it, then losing interest and moving on to the next one, but in a good way? idk it's fun and weird and only 10 minutes!

after seeing the Star Wars x atsv drawing I think it would be cool if you wrote miles x reader but Star Wars themed. :) if you can. Maybe they like play fight with lightsabers even though that probs wouldn’t end well
star wars au!miles x reader
A/N: warning. i do not know how sword fights of any kind work...but i don't think the star wars films do either lmao so bare with me please <3 also Miles is a bit more...rambunctious? in this one than I usually write him? so enjoy that maybe
(he may also be a little OP here ngl JUST A LITTLE but I still feel like this is at least somewhat in-character).
semi-inspired by that training scene between anakin and obi-wan!
"I almost had it!"
Miles' voice echoed as he paced around the now-empty training room. You leaned against a wall, watching him with an amused grin. "I swear, bro, Pav tripped me 'cuz he knew I was about to beat him."
"I'm a little more concerned that you let a rookie catch you lackin' like that," you laughed. "He's been here, what, like six months?"
Miles spun around to face you with his arms crossed, though there was no malice in his expression. "And you been here what, three years? But I still whoop yo' ass every time we duel."
You tilted your head. "Is that a challenge, Morales?"
That tell-tale grin spread across his features - the same one that made an appearance whenever he was the only youngling in the classroom with his hand raised.
"I dunno, Y/N. Is it?"
You got off the wall and stepped slowly toward the center of the room.
Unhooking the hilt of your lightsaber from your belt, you replied, "I needed a little dummy practice."
The saber hummed to life as soon as you toggled the switch, its blade glowing a brilliant blue as you began to circle your opponent.
Miles did the same, only he tossed the hilt in his hand like a drumstick first, flipping the switch using the Force instead for added showmanship before getting into position. His blade shone a vital green.
"I'll take that as a 'yes'."
He lunged into action as soon as the words left his mouth, swinging with gusto. His lightsaber crashed against yours, already having been raised in defense. You pushed him a couple feet away with a grunt.
"Miles, you're too-"
Before you could finish your sentence, Miles began swinging wildly with rapid rotations of his arm, and you were parrying several attacks on either side of you. Just as he was about to deliver a finishing blow, you got down and slid across the smooth floor beneath his arm to create more distance, and leapt to your feet once more.
"You're too aggressive," you said breathlessly as he began to circle you this time. "You're gonna tire yourself out, lose stamina. Lose accuracy, too."
Miles snorted.
"You sure it's me who needs stamina?"
He punctuated the sentence with a quick spin of his blade before attacking again. But this time, you ducked and it sliced empty air.
Once on the ground, you tried shooting out a leg and swinging it, but you were not as quick as Pavitr. Miles hopped over it with ease.
"Worth a shot," you grunted as you got rose up again and parried another attack.
"Oh, you think you funny, now?"
While he was distracted, you stepped forward and swung with all your might, knocking Miles' lightsaber out of his hand and sending it flying to the other side of the room. He promptly lost his balance and fell backward. When he remained there, nearly out of breath, you smiled triumphantly.
"Yup."
The smile soon fell from your face when you realized that Miles did not say 'yield'.
"Well I'm about to be hilarious."
He kicked his leg in a circle just as you had, forcing you to stay on defense and back away. This gave him ample time to get back on his feet.
You raised your arm in an attempt to attack, but Miles grabbed your wrist and stopped it mid-air. Like a ballroom dance, he used it to spin around and elbowed you in the lower back with enough force to shove you, but not enough for it to hurt. Caught by surprise, you couldn't turn to face him in time.
Your lightsaber was ripped out of your hand by the Force. Miles caught it, and suddenly your own blade was at your neck before you could blink.
"You're gonna have to do better than that, Y/N."
His warm breath hit your ear as he spoke. There was a smile in his words, reassuring you that he meant no real harm.
He deactivated the weapon, and pressed the hilt back into your palm. You turned to face him, thoroughly impressed.
"Shit, Morales, why can't you do that in training? They probably would've moved you up a level already!"
No longer in battle mode, Miles sheepishly scratched the nape of his neck. "I dunno, might get into trouble for that one."
"You're still too aggressive, though," you remarked, re-attaching the hilt of your lightsaber to your belt. "No defense whatsoever."
Miles rolled his eyes and started to make his way towards the training room's entrance with you following close behind.
"Yeah, yeah, you're just sayin' that 'cuz you lost!"
"I won until you decided to play dirty! Not very Jedi-like of you, Morales."
"Tell me about what Jedi do and don't do when you can lift a plate off the table."
"...Touche."

[TCR Episode 9]
had to check if this really was the second to the last episode of this show. because it felt like all hope is lost here, and if hope is gone, is there even anything worth looking forward to?
all those 50+ minutes of Episode 9 were devastating in its entirety. you spent the past eight episodes empathizing with this kid, learning about what broke him, who failed him--all in flashbacks. and at some point, you start thinking, at least it's not happenning to him now. he finally has people on his side and the chance to get the help he needs.
except you're wrong. and this time, you see it actually transpire: how everybody keeps failing him. again. and again. and again.
Tumblr media
and you feel sick just thinking about how it must feel to be in his shoes. when everything and everyone has failed you, who would you even turn to for help?
anyway, I'm just very curious now about how they intend to wrap this up by Episode 10, especially how they'd pivot to a triumphant end. or will there even be any kind of triumph for Danny to begin with?
some random notes:
because the focus shifted away a bit from Danny, the other characters got to shine this episode. all A+ performances delivered by Emmy, Amanda, Christopher, Will and Carmen. WHAT. A. BRILLIANT. CAST.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
which is why it's pretty disappointing that we only got to explore their characters now. I think the show could've benefited from expanded storylines for all of them (apart from Marlin, maybe). learning more about their backstories would've given us insight not only into their motivations but also into how they see and relate to or why they find it easy/hard to empathize with Danny. it could've also driven the "we're all responsible for each other" message further home.
for example, in that blink-and-you'll-miss-it frame showing Stan's fridge, we got to learn that he's apparently a veteran. which means he might've had PTSD, resulting in his failed marriage and his heavy reliance on alcohol and pills. the question is how does this affect his view of Danny and his condition? or his overall opinion on mental health? I think it's interesting to dive deeper into that.
Tumblr media
with that said, I wish there were more episodes to do this. or at the very least, I wish the actual trial started at least 1-2 episodes before.
that montage of Candy, Stan and Danny coupled with Rya's monologue in the background about asking for help is a bit...contrived, ngl. the dialogue is a little...hnngg. although, I think it would've packed more emotional punch if, again, we'd already known and empathized with Candy and Stan a bit more before this episode.
the scene with Rya and Candy in that diner/bar was one of the highlights, imo. it was fucking heartbreaking, I literally had to pause because I was sobbing a little too hard. it was powerful in itself, but I think it got to me on a personal level because I'm also an only child born from a single mother who I'm very close with (much like Candy and Danny were when he was little, at least)
Tumblr media
finally, I think talking about Candy's behavior especially what she did at the end should be more nuanced and should be treated with compassion. that is what the show is asking of the viewer, tbh. she was a victim, too. and I hope everyone who watches this episode remembers that.

Ngl but the scene in the engine room reminded me that the reason DT was my doctor was because I felt that shit with all my heart. That passioned injustice and anger, that ability for him to take this predominantly silly character and just feel with his whole chest at the drop of a hat just… be full of his own grief and pain? And for Donna, the way he spoke about her? When she wasn’t there and when she was? Yeah, falling in platonic love with your friends actually is the same thing, as my aroace heart broke so hard.
And Donna! Donna’s “ok” just… maybe it is the nostalgia talking but I just don’t care because I’m loving feeling it completely. My dream team, back again to gift me a part of my life I thought was done and dusted and the sheer joy I feel to be a part of the crowd this is actually for in an explicit way rather than trying to carve out my own interpretations? I can’t explain to you how much it means to have their friendship treated as an equally meaningful thing to other kinds of relationships.
It was all such a beautiful jumble of meaningful representation for so many of us, in so many ways, and if it wasn’t great for you that’s up to you, but for once I genuinely feel like I don’t have to say, “yeah, the x and y wasn’t brilliant, but I loved the z.” I just really, really fucking love the z, and there were so many zs for so many of us.
However, -1 point. They… they didn’t hug? Rusty come on man, you know the rules.

G-Witch episode 12 thoughts
Well, that was a wild ride. I think we all know the big moment that everyone is talking about but before we sprint to the finish in angst-ville, let's enjoy the relatively lighter bits-- just joking there aren't any.
Tumblr media
Seeing the witches go all out with their permit scoring really highlights how unique Aerial and Suletta are. Still, Sophie is able to beat the GUND-format antidote by sheer force of will. And unlike Suletta it takes a huge toll. This fight was incredibly one-sided on behalf of DoF which I think we all suspected. Witches aren't feared for nothing.
Tumblr media
In the middle of all this chaos, Miorine is shielded from debris by Delling. His talk to her and mention of Mio's mother was enlightening. They way he speaks of her makes me wonder if she was a soldier too, possibly killed by a Gundam? Whatever the truth, it's unmistakable how much he cares for Mio's well-being. He might have a shit way of showing it in a non-deadly situation, but it's better than Fail Mother of the year, Prospera.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before we open that masked can of worms, here's a brief mention to Nika. We see her save herself and the rest of Earth House by signaling to Norea's gundam. Lucky for her, she was recognized as an ally of the 'Prince'. Not so luckily, her little morse code session was seen. Oops.
I'd like to see her collusion and secrets come to light early in the next cour. She's a good egg, just trapped between her past ties on earth and the friends she made at military school. Will it end terribly? I'm anxious to find out.
Tumblr media
Pour one out for Bob by the way. I won't mourn Jeturk, but it's scarred his son for life. Imagine changing to become a better man all because someone was nice to you, but whoops. Patricide. That's a twist I didn't forsee but it piques my intrigue. Will Bob return to Guel with a massive revenge scheme as CEO of Jeturk industries?
But speaking of parents and children...
Posting this entire scene because I wanted to showcase, beginning to end, how informative this is for what follows next. We have Suletta fearful for her life, shocked by seeing her mother kill. She's completely shaken, yet calms once Prospera repeats the philosophy we've been hearing the whole show. The light shines upon Prospera as she offers her hand, appearing angelic in spite of the killing. You can see the moment Suletta internalizes this. Killing for those you love is just; fighting gains you two, running would mean losing someone. She moves forward and pilots Aerial as Prospera demands. It's a subtle manipulation, and from Suletta's wide-eyed stare (similar to another episode where she's desperate to believe her mother) she accepts this new reality.
Tumblr media
Small aside, I like this brief confirmation Aerial can communicate detailed things to Suletta despite only appearing as lights and a whale-like sound to us. Very interesting.
Now onto the penultimate scene.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Messed up and shocking as this is, I found it completely in character. I don't think she's snapped or anything like that, merely accepted her mother is right and killing for another person to survive is an acceptable trade. Her unnatural cheer in this scene is unnerving, but I read this as her desperately trying to keep herself and Miorine calm; she's acting the same as always to downplay the gruesome reality.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So she does what she has always done and mimics Prospera, positioning herself in the same way. All the while she's oblivious to how horrifying her behavior comes across. Yet it doesn't escape us, nor poor Mio. I would not be surprised if Prospera used that phrase as a means of conditioning Suletta to do what she asks.
Tumblr media
From groom to murderer in the span of one episode and cour 😔 Suletta now persona non grata. It's cruel to leave us here until April but also brilliant ngl. I can't wait to see how our fav couple navigates this conflict. All is fair in love and war.
I do love this shot though, bookends are my weakness.

Just finished watching NPMD and here are my observations:
Oh starting right away with Richie's death
OHHHH It's the first time we actually hear Lauren and Jon sing together, even for just a lil bit
The Watcher World callback with the hammer and the phone
Every Mariah character: MY PICTURES ON MY PHONE, Me: gurl back it up on Cloud
Awwww Ruth
That one person who cheered louder than anyone else when Pete stood up for himself
Everyone collectively going "awww" when Pete shows up with the black eye
The Chasitys have such a cute color scheme. Would wear. But like. Mark's outfit has such gay vibes tho. Like. Stereotypical gay outfit.
Pfft that one person who cackled the Loudest during the dinner scene
Max, climbing in the tub with his jeans on: *vine voice* He's washing him and his jeans. He's washing him and his jeans.
Oh Mark showing up after Dirty Girl is literally like that scene with Hanschen during My Junk in Spring Awakening.
LISTEN. About two years ago, I was watching SAF and my dad looked over my shoulder AND HE THOUGHT JOEY WAS LIN MANUEL MIRANDA
Max: I'm gonna kick your ass!, Me: *Ted voice* Not his head
Wait. But his reaction to the prank is so wholesome and precious actually.
Gurl. Just let it stay an accident and destroy the footage instead. Don't be stupid.
I remember saying Bryce as Brenda. Glad that it happened.
Hatchet Town is basically just "Your Fault" from Into the Woods huh
Pete and Ruth sound a lot like Scrags and Esther ngl
I love Kyle. Himbo dude.
The shift when Clivesdale is introduced.
The way everyone also awwed when Richie got appreciated. I don't think a show goes by without Jon's character being loved
It's interesting that the hs kids don't want to be mean and aren't inherently mean, they were just pressured into being mean
Ohhh. He got bedazzled. Like Edward Cullen.
I want the cast recording so I can hear Jon and Will sing at each other more clearly
Boy Jerry's a reporter? I mean sure, I assumed they have jobs when it's off-season for camp, but I didn't expect journalism
What does Bryce's character know about Boy Jerry's murder spree tho?
Everyone's talking about Boy Jerry throwing Girl Jeri under the bus, but not Dan agreeing with Boy Jerry in accusing Donna
Hatchet Town is just Your Fault from Into the Woods huh
Steph protecting Ruth parallels Steph looking after Hannah
hc that Joey's character in the bbq monologues is whoever played Joey's roles in the Hatchetfield production of TTO
Jon's delivery ohmygod lmaoooo
Oh and Mariah's character, Caitlyn/Kaitlin, feels like a mini Zoey
Ruth sweetieeee you are so brilliant
Ruth having a mushroom on her shirt like the "I'm a failure" meme
The way they pull off Max's teleportation is so so good
Kim is the queen of horrified screams now
Tumblr media
YESSSS HE SAID THE MIRANDA RIGHTS he ain't got a warrant tho
Considering tgwdlm was 2018, and it's 2023 now, then it HAS been FIVE YEARS since Peter asked for his hot chocolate from Emma
GARY PUPPY PAID ATTENTION WHEN HE HEARD PAUL. Because of he still recognizes Jon.
Tumblr media
Pfft Paul having more balls than Pete
Okay it's vague enough that it can be interpreted that Paul doesn't die. I didn't think Emma would do the Linda screech tho. It's always enough to startle and disorient tho.
THE COSTUMES THE COSTUMES I LOVE THE COSTUMES
Oh I have a theory behind what Tinky says. But it's going in a separate post
The LiBs going "WE DON'T WANT YOUR PHONE"
In Once Upon a Time, it is customary to give up "the thing you love most" in exchange for extremely powerful magic.
Ahahaha as a Catholic I can confirm that Grace's opinion on Catholicism is mostly correct
I feel like if Pete did die, it would prevent him from turning into a horny bastard like Ted tho. Which may potentially save him from Tinky
And Pete letting himself get shot to save the woman he loves, would parallel Ted's sacrifice in Ape Man
That one person who very audibly goes "WHAT THE FUCK" when Max takes the bullet for Pete
Grace saying her type is dudes who come back from the dead. And I'm like. "AND THEY'RE BOTH RIPPED AS FUCK"
Annnd now the tables have turned on Joey after eating Sally out in the choir room.
Aaaat least she can't get knocked up?
Where'd she get that cigarette tho
The hair flip that accompanied the spin
GARY PUPPY CUDDLED UP TO THE LAPTOP WHEN HE HEARD WIGGLY
Kim's teacher character is so cute
The "awwww" when Pete and Steph came to homecoming together. Also Pete's bow tie will always match whatever Steph's wearing
Are we all in agreement that Jon and Will's homecoming characters are dating?
Grace. YOU ASKED.
Hmm. A soul-sucking spell especially targeting guys? Sounds like what Sheila had.
"Guys who came before"? Who else did she hook up with between the ghost's death and homecoming?
It's the return of Angela's iconic witch laugh
But Grace how long is that gonna work out for you. You gonna eventually use contraception? Have magic contraception? Or eventually get knocked up? Just sayin'

Note
if you need tedtrent recs:
anything by bidemonium (i think they have a different user for their tedtrent fics?)
and "number four was always you" by thefaceofno which is basically my canon (fixes honestly like all my problems with the finale as well as being a brilliant tedtrent fic)
"fathers and sons and boyfriends oh my" by r_n_g_are_dead is also part of my top 3 faves, its a fake dating fic and trent's dad is there (he's a great guy in this fic which differs from popular headcannons but ngl its written really naturally, and there are some really sweet scenes between trent's dad and ted) and we also get trent's daugher. altogether just a really sweet fic
okay i'm done with the essay i just really love those fics skdjhfjf
tedtrent fans come get y’all juice!!!!
