It's time for the Weekly Bangtan Report!

Happy Birthday Hobi! Neuron Crew has posted a happy birthday tribute on their social media channels. Here is the video on YouTube:

Neuron Crew are a group of Hobi's dance colleagues and friends from pre-debut. He's known them since middle school. This video was shot at Daedong Plaza in Gwuangju, Hobi's hometown city.

I was wondering last time if we'd see him in between training groups and here he is! The birthday boy himself was out and about. He saw his birthday banners and posters! I suspect this is possibly near his apartment building.

Namjoon.... there is that sus image of him playing the saxophone in a red military band uniform (not gonna post the pic). Is it an edit? Ok, so let's think about this.

When have we ever heard Namjoon say he knows how to play the saxophone? That would be approximately zero times he's ever said that. You'd think we would have had some Taehyung/RM interactions or conversations over the years involving saxophones. Nothing.

Do you know how hard it is to learn to play a wind instrument?

And there is only that one single suspicious image. Usually there are multiple weird sneaky angles, blurry shots, etc. I'm just saying I remain skeptical until I hear more from a different source, or from Joon himself. I've seen several pics supposedly of Jimin and Jungkook, one of them sitting in a cafeteria that looked hella real and then the original pic is shown and it's just... wow... edits can be very deceiving.

Joon posted a Lunar New Year message to us on Weverse:

That song was important for BTS, it was their first TV music show win and it was IMPORTANT and a big WIN for them that broke the door open. They were about to give up!

I have been saving this for a REALLY long time, so that I could use it to give you all a few BTS details about William's new love.

Rogue was added to the game when I needed William to find a spouse. I had him visit every household in my game and he was only attracted to two people: Harold (yes, his best friend who is married to Eldride!) and Rawlins (who, as you already know, was also married). I like to play relationships based on WW attractiveness settings and not my own personal choices, so, in the era of no divorce, this all meant that I needed to add some sims for William to fall for.

Rogue was part of a group of sims I added to the game to see if any of them would catch William's eye. I did not fiddle with William's WW attractiveness settings, but I did try to hunt out sims who might fit his interest. Of all the sims I added, Rogue was the only one he was interested in.

Rogue is a sim originally created by @wildmelon but I have edited his name, outfits and personality traits to fit with the era (just to add - @wildmelon makes insanely beautiful sims that you might want to check out)

He is a trans man and can still become pregnant. His identity won't ever feature as a plot. As I've said before, the biggest historical inaccuracy to my legacy is that all identities are 100% accepted from the start - him being trans is no bigger a deal than William being cis. While the historical reality is important and needs to be recognised, my sims legacy is not the appropriate place for that.

His traits are 'maker', 'loner' and 'good'.

I want to tell you more because I have come to love him so much, but I'll just keep telling the story and let you fall for him yourself.

The Calamity Knight

A maleficent being of evil that brings calamities to the land he travels to. No good comes wherever he goes.

BTS Notes 📸: The picture was mostly for me as I wanted to test out shooting some pictures with different kinds of lighting angles. This one ended up cool enough during the editing process so I’m posting it! The build is a combination from the clone wars Mandalore throne room set as well as a castle interior build that I have. I loved the use of trans orange in the throne room build and I couldn’t help but pass some light behind it to make that cool light glow 😄

Some wonderful things about the BTS crossover:

-Licorice definitely made the BAD4 costumes, Dark Enchantress and Pomegranate actually agreed to go with the boy band plan as well. Affogato's absent since he didn't want to bury his already-ruined dignity any further. (Edit: Affogato may have pitched the idea for the BAD4’s Coffee Truck (Kingdom Pass landmark), and the drinks/food are moderated by Pomegranate) -Poison Mushroom can rap. -Red Velvet taught his cake hounds to dance. The BTS Cookies can apparently understand Cake-speech(?) -Licorice is a soprano (in vocal range), can make his voice go higher despite his slip-up still causing hearing loss. -Choco Werehound wanted to be the leader of the band, but didn't know how to be a leader. -Pomegranate is a ruthless but thoughtful(?) road manager, actually admonishing Werehound for not caring of his teammates' health. -Werehound slips back into his "aristocratic roots" during a identity crisis, and his story hints that he's the younger (rebellious trans) brother of Esterhazy. -Almond has no idea how electricity works. -The BAD4 costumes weren't immediately available since the BTS Cookies needed 21 extra costumes for all four songs.

Meanwhile in CROB, Brave and the gang get lost in the woods for 4 (maybe 5) weeks straight trying to find my man Treesus and save the world from a dragon family reunion.

i’m not quite sure if this person is a minor or not; if they are a minor i’d be a lot more forgiving of the immature behavior youre describing here.

the watermark thing is understandable for art but for the “photo edits?” it’s so stupid because literally there’s nothing edited about them other than the addition of the watermark. aside from some of the BTS photos from the 25th anniversary dvd bonus features, most of the pictures can be found pretty easily through google, pinterest, etc.

i completely understand wanting more engagement/notes but you can’t force people to interact with your content if they don’t want to. and their conduct certainly isn’t earning them any fans… i hope this person grows out of this entitled mindset because jeez. what a piece of work.

on a side note as the world’s #1 kim walker appreciator the way they talk about her is so fucking creepy. she was a real person. she deserved better.

Behind the Umbrellas: Marginality as Joyful Resistance

Final Queer Video

When we first talked about the video project, I thought of Parasol Patrol, a non-profit founded by Eli Bazan and Pasha Ripley in 2019. I wanted to show how Parasol Patrol creates a queer space in the midst of a visual culture filled with hate and violence aimed at LGBTQ children. The Barker and Scheele (2016) graphic novel informed my goals.

1. I wanted to show one type of queer activism (p. 51). As queer people of color, Eli and Pasha are uniquely able to address the threats facing queer children, including queer children of color.

2. Barker and Scheele describe “how queer theory has engaged with popular culture…” (p. 6) and given the increasingly violent actions directed at trans people and at drag events, I wanted to show how a local organization could resist the hate targeting LGBTQ folx.

3. Barker and Scheele say, “Queer activism is a form of sexuality/gender activism that opposes assimilationist agendas of trying to show how ‘normal’ LG(BT) people are. Instead it celebrates difference and diversity…” (p. 15). Pasha often says, “We’re here because of the hate groups. We’re not here for them.” Parasol Patrol carves out a space in the midst of violent hate that doesn’t try to change LGBTQIA children—it celebrates them. I wanted to show this joy.

4. Most importantly, I wanted to make queer media about queer people. So I focused on how Parasol Patrol creates space for youth to grow into powerful adults. Parasol is really about queer elders modeling community care for queer youth. This is our genealogy and I want to document it.

5. As a secondary goal, I wanted to create something Parasol Patrol can potentially use in its marketing because yay capitalism and the Nonprofit Industrial Complex.

I had good access to Eli, Pasha, and the rest of the Parasol Patrol regulars. I’ve been a Patroller since their 3rd month, so I knew getting footage and photos wouldn’t be a problem. I also felt pretty sure I could show the change in atmosphere when participants move from the hate group side of the venue to the protected queer-friendly side behind the umbrellas. I questioned how much of the hate I should show, and I’m still not sure I balanced that right.

I had some other problems. I’ve never made a movie, so in terms of technology, I started at zero. Mia provided some helpful guidance, and the links on the module helped with editing. I also tend to be pretty wordy (ha!) so my first proposal was enormous. I needed to cut the scope down.

I had some tech issues, all user error, but I finally got a first rough draft posted. Moss watched it before I submitted it to Canvas. Their feedback basically boiled down to “what does Parasol Patrol even do?” but said in a very nice way. I reworked the intro, but after submitting the 2nd version, I still needed to clarify some things, rethink some quotes, and work on my ever-lagging tech skills (note to self: film in landscape next time). This is when I added voice over, bullying my husband into being the narrator. He agreed because he’s scared of me I think.

Unique helped me figure out how to script something that made sense without having to redo the whole video. She answered tech questions. She also gave me snacks and tea, both of which gave me enough energy to work on the video when the cold hit.

I sent the 3rd draft to Mia, she gave more feedback, and I changed roughly 1/3 of the video. I also added some different images about recent events.

While the assignment was for a 5 minute video, mine goes over that. The credits begin at 5 minutes 25 seconds, so that’s where the for-a-grade project ends. But. Because I wanted Parasol to be able to use the video, and because I adore the owner of Second Star to the Right Bookstore (she always gives us food when we patrol there), I added a Marvel-Studios style post credit clip. Honestly, in my eyes, Eli and Pasha and the rest of the patrollers are superheroes, and Dea has been a long-time knowledge-keeper and child-protector, so it seems very apropos.
