What are some other hairstyles you imaging the group in? Any fun ones that Hunter tried (or was forced into by Willow, Amity, etc) as his hair got longer?

THIS IS A LONG ONE (with art) SO I'M PUTTING IT UNDER A READ MORE! :)

first of all I think GUS would be the one with the most hairstyles, hats and drip in general - he loves the human world's culture and their way of using fashion to express themselves uniquely - including hair. I mean, he also has curly hair. So he would have durag styles, various protection styles, twists and braids. And, because his hair curls, he could vary between long and shorter styles.

I also think Gus would have styles that are more typically "feminine" too, as he is very gender-non-conforming in the crew's art of him.

Though, I will say, it works for Gus in-canon that he only keeps one style at first (narratively speaking, not realistic haircare - I think?) because then that would emphasise his time in the human realm later on to be an important developing arc for him (assuming they would actually give him various styles, as indicative of the bits we got of him in episode 1.)

I think, had season 3 happened, we would have gotten a more vibrant Gus. He wants to be an ambassador, he loves the human realm, whom else than GUS to be the one to have an arc where he explores and embodies the full-on SELFEXPRESSION!

Fashion and hair is a way to express the uniqueness of yourself. If Luz' wish as the main character is to be understood, then the (positive) characters around her will (one way or another) embody different lessons for that theme. Gus: Self-expression. (Fashion, style, hair, charisma) Hunter: Identity. (Confidence, self-love, self-respect) Willow: Inner self. (Vulnerability, self-care, self-acceptance) Amity: Outer self. (Presentation of your truth, pride of oneself.) Vee: Voice. (Standing up for yourself, perseverance) Camila: Support. (Union of group, accepting and giving love)

And I think their fashions/hair aka - character designs would reflect these various things!

On a more fun note I think the only reason Hunter could pull off his own unique style is because Gus helps him combine them properly.

Hunter really said dollhouse fairycore and Gus ran with it.

AMITY: Basic styles, probably thinking of her siblings to feel closer to them. Especially Emira's hairstyles. :) I think, because her mom was so controlling of how her hair presented, I think Amity moves away from doing too much with it and rather let it be adventurous and free.

WILLOW: Lots of braids and pigtails. I think she likes to have practical hairstyles as well as more "gentle" ones. The practical ones to reflect her jock-side, and the lose ones to reflect her more gentile and sensitive side! :)

HUNTER: I think just keeps his in a ponytail or (as in the canon) just loose and shaggy without much care. Showing his early stages of being a blank slate. Just let things have it's course to see what "grows" from it, y'know? And then he gets his iconic haircut scene and literally "starts over" with a new arc. :)

I think LUZ just keeps her iconic style that she's had through the show, with the additional tiny low-pinned ponytail that makes her look like a rouge adventurer! Kinda like Amity. I also think Luz hair grows a bit more wavy the longer it gets! :)

VEE is also someone who goes through the most changes, but in her body and face rather than fashion. I think her style would be of the alternative side, perhaps a bit of a concert-kid vibe and basic comfy stuff. She's visually been shown to have the opposite expressions of Luz, quite literally being from opposite realms and having opposite personalities. Where Luz felt hopeful Vee was quick to give up. Our basilisk girl also seem to fit in more with the human realm, enjoying being a normie - after all, her life wasn't normal up till that point. So it makes sense for her to seek it and even find her safety in her own baseline.

note : these are only my headcanons so feel free to interpret otherwise or let me know your thoughts on the topic - i’d love to hear them!

[i’m also polyamorous so please don’t take this as an attack on poly people - this is just what vibe i get from each character]

Adrian Graye Vernworth

would be neutral ; would be alright with casual non-monogamy on your part and his, but probably wouldn’t be the happiest about having any metamours or thirds in your relationship - but could be convinced.

Alador Blight

would be fine with a polyamorous partner ; i feel like alador is probably monogamous but would be fine with you having other relationships - just don’t expect to have a shared third with him, he’s committed to you not someone else.

Amity Blight

would be fine with a polyamorous partner ; this would probably be a case of you being part of a triad with her and luz, so expect to have her as a metamour at least - she’d probably be okay with you branching out beyond that but prefers a closed poly relationship over anything else.

Boscha

wouldn’t be okay with having an open relationship ; is probably fine with a closed unit and having a metamour or two (though she probably wouldn’t play nice with them), but prefers monogamy for the most part - would only consider a poly dynamic if she really liked you.

Collector

would be perfectly fine with a polyamorous partner ; doesn’t expect you to be 100% romantically committed to them and doesn’t mind having any metamours so long as they can get along (and play with them) - just let them know what you want and they’ll accommodate you.

Darius Deamonne

neutral on the topic ; darius seems like someone who would be comfortable in a monogamous or polyamorous dynamic, so having a poly partner wouldn’t be much of an issue for him so long as everyone cleans up after themselves that is - 50/50 whether he’d have any other partners, though.

Edalyn Clawthorne

would tolerate a polyamorous relationship ; you’d probably end up being metamours with raine anyway if you’re with eda as they’re kind of a package deal, so she’d be more than up for dating a poly person.

Edric Blight

would be fine with a polyamorous partner ; it would take an adjustment period for him to get used to the dynamic, but ed would definitely branch out himself and have other relationships and casual flings of his own volition - may not reach out to his metamours, it depends on whether they’d ever actually meet in person.

Emira Blight

would accept a polyamorous partner ; em may very well have a slight polyamorous-lean to her and would comfortably settle into a closed triad dynamic, but would also accept a complete open relationship if that was what you wanted (though would probably only have one serious relationship outside of yours) - would probably make an effort with metamours to make things easier for you.

Hunter

confused but mostly supportive ; hunter grew up completely isolated from relationship things, so he probably wouldn’t give polyamory much thought until it was actively brought up - and even then, he’d likely be okay with you branching out but likely wouldn’t do very much himself (not just because he’s hopeless when it comes to flirting)

Lilith Clawthorne

happy to have a polyamorous partner ; just wants to see you happy, so while she’ll remain relatively monogamous she’s also happy to meet and get to know her metamours and help you plan things with them (especially if they’re as excited about the deadwardian era as she is).

Luz Noceda

probably also polyamorous herself ; you can’t be with luz without being somewhat close with amity as well, so having a poly partner would be ideal for luz - she’d also be the type to reach out to and befriend her metamours.

Mattholomule

wouldn’t want a polyamorous relationship ; mattholomule probably wouldn’t be the happiest with sharing a lover with others or having other partners at all - so being with a poly person either wouldn’t happen at all or would only happen if he was very very interested in the person and willing to accept that part of them.

Odalia Blight

wouldn’t particularly care ; isn’t the most committed person romantically and wouldn’t care if you had other relationships so long as she was your nesting/anchor partner - but she won’t make nice with her metamours unless it would benefit you both.

Philip Wittebane / Emperor Belos

wouldn’t tolerate a polyamorous relationship ; this man is a puritan christian so he would probably be limited to strict monogamy, potentially being incredibly possessive over his partner - so polyamory is off the table with him.

Raine Whispers

would tolerate a polyamorous relationship ; raine is one of the most supportive people ever and would probably lean towards a closed poly relationship with eda and any metamours they’d have through you - so bring it up and they’d be open.

Steve

neutral on the idea ; steve is probably completely monogamous but wouldn’t expect you to change yourself for him - would also probably reach out to his metamours to plan surprises and gifts for you and things like that (pretty chill).

Terra Snapdragon

neutral on the topic ; wouldn’t mind you being polyamorous/having others but isn’t romantically poly herself - might have a few flings here and there but don’t expect to have metamours on her end.

Willow Park

neutral on the topic ; whilst i feel like willow is probably more monogamous-leaning, she likely wouldn’t be too bothered about having a poly partner and may even be happy to help you plan dates or get to know your other partners to some extent (would bring plants as a peace offering).

So thinking about doing an Owl house, Hazbin hotel AU. So basically the Owl house characters instead of the Hazbin characters.

I already have done a lot of concept art. I have character designs and more.

Tell me if I should write this and/or post some of the concept sketches I’ve already made.

Luz as Charlie, both energetic, see the good in people, and would do anything for their friends, I can even imagine Luz singing a bunch of Charlie’s songs

Amity as Vaggie, loyal, headstrong, want to prove themselves to be good girlfriends to their respective partners

Vee would be just there as the receptionist for the Hotel

Hunter as Angle Dust, both bad but sad boys, towards the end give me sibling vibes with the respective protagonists, and they do care but act like they don’t

Belos as Valentino, I hate them both so much, and both are extremely manipulative and sadistic

Eda as Husk*, honestly I can just see these two chatting about the others over apple blood. (*I want Eda as like a mentor/almost mother figure to Hunter)

Gus as Nifty

the Collector as Sir Pensouis, (I cannot spell that right) but both really aren’t too evil

Alastor as Alastor because I couldn’t find anyone who matched him

I might have Adrien be Vox

Darius will be Vellvet, so this will be more evil Darius

Alador will be Carmilla

Emira and Edric will be the role Carmilla’s daughters

Katya will be Cherri Bomb

I also want Double Trouble from She-ra somewhere

Adam will also be Adam, he’s just such a fun character already

Boscha will be Lute

Lilith will be Sera

Skara will be Emily

Manny and Camilia will be fallen angels

Manny is Lucifer

Camilla’s personality will have changed a lot especially depending how season 2 goes

Emira Temel is a Bradford Springs native who has just returned after being “let go” (see: very much fired) from her job at a prominent newspaper in New York. She is the older sister of Yasemin and is fiercely protective of her. When she’s not freelancing, she’s producing true crime podcast episodes, going for a swim to let off some steam or walking her Bernese Mountain Dog, Atlas. Oldest daughter of the Temel family, she grew up a precocious and daring child with a lot of love and even more will.

When Yasemin was born, Emira became her self-appointed protector and guardian, putting anyone who bullied her little sister in their place (often getting in trouble for it).

She may have subliminally resented all the attention Yasemin got growing up because she was determined to strike out on her own for a bit, to see who she was apart from her family and her sister specifically.

Emira went to college in New York City, pursuing degrees in journalism and polisci before getting a job at a prominent news organization.

She was there for several years before getting let go in winter 2022 due to crossing a line while pursuing a lead (apparently, it’s not okay to threaten public officials)

Returning back to Bradford Springs in Spring 2022, she’s been here since and is freelancing/working on her true crime podcast (murders, mystery and mac ‘n’ cheese) while enjoying a reset in close proximity to her family.

Sisters such as Emira just give me them blackmail vibes 🖤✉️

Exactly the sort that say they’re gonna do something to embarrass you and then you find out later in the heat of the moment, it was all talk, and they weren’t actually going to do it in the first place. All smoke💨and🪞mirrors, still Emira gives me the feeling of being the kind of sister who’s gonna exploit Amity’s “flawless” features to give her hand-me-downs that give Amity A L L The Cute™️😊🐶🐱🦭🐻🐑vibes so she can blackmail her and gush about how adorable she looks!

ABOUT

Oldest daughter of the Temel family, she grew up a precocious and daring child with a lot of love and even more will. She and her younger sister Yasemin were raised in Center Hill by their mother Marika and father Hakan. At least for the first few years. Their dad was, at the end of the day, an asshole who didn't understand Yas' special needs and didn't care to. She didn't fall in line and so she was treated like an inconvenient problem, something Emira resented deeply. From the time they were children, she was her sister's voice when Yas couldn't find her own.

Emira felt like she could finally breathe again when Marika filed for divorce and Naomi came into their lives. Suddenly their world was vibrant and full of life and love in a way that they hadn't known for those first formative years apart from Marika.

Still, shared custody meant forced visits with their father who would only ever complain, spewing hateful words about their mothers amongst other verbal abuse. Eventually, they stopped visiting and time slipped away. Before long, Emira couldn't remember the last time she saw her father, or thought of him.

Over the years she'd done many difficult things but the hardest was leaving home to go to New York for college after getting a scholarship to NYU. Emira ended up staying in New York for about nine years, getting a job at a prominent news organization. She was there for several years before getting let go in October of 2021 due to crossing a line while pursuing a lead (apparently, it’s not okay to threaten public officials).

Returning back to Atlanta in Jan 2022, she’s been here since. She was freelancing until November 2022 and ended up going full time with her true crime podcast while enjoying a reset in close proximity to her family.

On May 18, she gave birth to Samara Anderson, affectionately known as "Sammie", her and Danny Anderson's daughter. They're not "official" but they basically are.

Why did Odalia allow Emira and Edric in Illusions?

I’ve seen people wonder how Emira and Edric are in Illusions if they seem to be looked down upon, especially with a parent like Odalia expecting the best of her kids! To dabble into some potential explanations;

For starters, illusions might not be looked down upon to begin with? Bria, Angmar, and Gavin give me major jock vibes, what with the physicality of their magic, bullying the smaller Gus and Mattholomule, and seeing the Galdorstones as a litmus test for ‘real’ magic.

Given their immature tendencies, it’s possible that they’ve made an easy and shallow mistake of reducing the value of magic down to its physical strength, instead of the wider applications- Which fits young and overconfident kids from Glandus, which evidently had some toxic ideas.

This could be a shallow Glandus perception that doesn’t grasp the full extent and potential of magic beyond just physically smashing and fighting in a straightforward manner, which might just add to the school’s rivalry with Hexside; But I digress...

The thing about Odalia is that she’s definitely underhanded and a cheater herself- So it makes sense of her to approve of ‘lesser’ tactics anyway, because she might see herself as Lilith, having to use whatever it takes to win. Doesn’t matter if it’s honest or has integrity, Odalia never cared about that... So she wouldn’t be approaching Illusions with the sort of dismissive bias of jocks.

After all, Oracle magic doesn’t seem to be entirely physical- It is to an extent, hence why Selene is able to fight Willow for at least a few seconds... But otherwise, Oracle magic seems to focused on more intangible things. It’d be hypocritical of Odalia to embrace Oracle magic but then judge Illusions, but then again she’s no stranger to hypocrisy either.

Maybe she’s tried to vicariously place her kids in ‘real’ magic tracks and only succeeded in Amity... But again, Illusions might not actually be looked down upon, at least on a societal level. There might be some bias amongst covens who think their magic is superior to that of another, but Belos designated Illusions as one of his nine major covens for a reason- And he is definitely a ruthless pragmatist with a utilitarian view of magic.

After all, Boscha mocks Willow’s choice of Plants despite her friend Amelia being there, and Angmar is played off as supposedly better than Gus for it! Granted Plants might be considered lame, while Illusions are even lamer... Bria and her friends evidently weren’t so popular themselves at first;

But regardless, it seems that it could just be a case of kids being hypocritically biased and insulting someone’s choice of magic if it isn’t the same as their own, especially since Potions could easily be seen as weaker than Plants! But maybe it’s just a matter of class, with Potions evidently being an industry that rakes in a lot of snails, so who knows?

Boscha probably doesn’t have a place to speak, and amongst narrow-minded kids, some assumptions might take place, but once you’re an adult... You cool down and can see the importance of these things. And as a seasoned and successful entrepreneur, Odalia is someone always looking for an opportunity to use someone or something;

As an adult with actual real-world experience, Odalia is able to recognize the value of illusions... And, as a gaslighter and manipulator herself, who uses Oracle magic to literally get into people’s heads, and she’d definitely appreciate the mind games and trickery of illusions.

If anything, Odalia might see physical magic as more demeaning and to be offloaded to the lesser workers, to people whose hands are meant to be dirty (with Alador as an exception), while a prim and proper, higher-class person such as herself needn’t bother with labor-associated magic! If there is some bias towards some forms of magic as lofty and for prissy blue bloods, Odalia might just be an example of that.

Plus, illusions could help her business! Amity is clearly set up as the next Alador, as the mindless worker who puts together and innovates with Abominations... With the twins welcoming people into the expo, while Amity physically participates, and it’s likely that Emira and Edric are set up to be the social factor of the business!

They’re meant to be like Odalia, as the managers who organize people, who broker deals and appeal to customers! And illusions would be perfect for presentations, Illusionists have a knack for showmanship as Gus said.

Illusions could be used to cover up the flaws of Blight Industries’ products while embellishing them. It’s implied that Alador’s creations aren’t always as good as they claim to be... Possibly as a result of cutting costs, because this guy CAN make some effective products, but unless Odalia wants him to compensate with an Abomaton 2.0 after the first failed, she otherwise prefers quantity over quality.

So yeah, a deal broker and social butterfly who attends these kinds of gatherings, makes business alliances and appeals to people- Odalia would definitely approve of illusions, even beyond her own treatment of her kids! For all we know she insisted upon it from the get-go, and luckily for Emira and Edric, illusions worked out for them as their personal calling.

Who knows, maybe Odalia wanted to be in another magic track, only for her actual talents to speak for themselves- She proved best at Oracle magic and was placed in it anyway, despite her attempts for other tracks she wasn’t as naturally talented in. It could be a similar case for the twins, who already like to rebel- And Bump could’ve made a case for them to be in Illusions too! Though we know Odalia can threaten Bump to get her way...

But in the end it doesn’t matter, because I think it’s fully in Odalia’s character to appreciate a more subtle approach, especially if she likes to manipulate and use underhanded tactics to compensate for a lack of ‘genuine’ power. If she has the same biases against non-physical magic, she could be just like Lilith, accepting her need to use lowly means to keep up with more honest witches anyway.

And given how Belos’s system makes people compete, it’s possible that EVERY coven thinks the others are weaker in some capacity- Every coven thinks one of the other eight is weak and ‘worthless’, because of bias and arrogance. A bard might dismiss a construction worker as a menial labor brute, while a beast keeper might mock a potion-maker for relying on bottles and elixirs, instead of controlling powerful demons!

This type of elitism ingrained into society, resulting in bullies and competition, possibly some people trying to make peace with covens they didn’t truly want to join through and inflated sense of superiority... These seem in-character for the coven system, and how bullies like Boscha exist, while people like Kikimora and even Lilith feel the need to betray, backstab, and cheat to win.

It’s all a toxic system... And at the very least, to get back to the original point- I think it makes sense for Odalia to approve of illusions, or at least tolerate them enough to live with it, especially when you already have rebellious twins who are willing to stand up to their parents and can’t be threatened to stand down the way Amity initially was.

Emira and Edric might’ve chosen it for themselves, and it was something Odalia knew they’d insist upon to Bump, no matter how hard she tried- So it was out of her control, and Alador might’ve convinced Odalia to let them be. He recognizes the value of letting his kids be independent, because it adds to their strength and ‘usefulness’.

As a long-term thinker not blinded in the moment by personal pride and need for control like Odalia, Al very well could’ve explained to her how illusions can work; Again, what I said about presentations and advertisement. Alador could’ve spoken to Odalia and gotten her to calm down, reasoning why illusions could be better in the long run, because they need another Odalia to run the company after her.

As for who will work Abominations, it only takes one witch as Alador himself as proven, and they’ve got another daughter who is much more under their thumb and easy to control. Let Amity take that burden, they can make her do whatever they want, unlike the twins... And again, that pressure to make up for the roles the twins had forsaken, and live up to her father’s genius, would just add to Amity’s need to be perfect.

Granted, Alador and Odalia expected Amity to join the Emperor’s Coven until only recently, which doesn’t seem like a position she could reconcile while working with Blight Industries. But maybe Alador intended to keep working, and use Amity as a means to secure an alliance with the Emperor’s Coven that has Blight Industries set, no longer needing to innovate, just replicate his work... In which case, be careful what you wish for!

Plus, if it’s Alador who suggested the use of the twins in illusions, maybe it was always more his idea to have his kids split between different roles to continue the company on their own, while Odalia had looked to the more ambitious option of a deal with the Emperor’s Coven, military-industrial complex style, to secure their futures.

Like in Danny Phantom w Dani, Lucio eventually leaves to ~find himself~ n travel the world being a menace. The thing is,,,,,he basically leaves out of the blue. Everyone knew he was thinking about it, but aside from a goodbye to Luz that Luz didn’t realize was a goodbye, he left just like that. Nothing to the others, nothing to Skara (who he was getting closer to), not a word. Course many of them had mixed feelings on Lucio but it still hit them and they felt a little bad. Especially Skara, who they had to spin a lie to and say he moved back with some other family. He did eventually come back, months later he showed up just as suddenly as he left, his casual cocky self as he showed up during a fight and joked with Luz a bit, who was overjoyed to have the creepy fuck back. Skara gave him a few punches for leaving without so much as a bye.

The symbolism of punching a mirror and seeing a shattered reflection with blood and ectoplasm seeping through the cracks. Yes we get angst of Luz having a breakdown in this AU my house my rules.

Edric and Emira aren’t really ghost hunters but they pretty quickly find out Amity is so they sometimes grab a mask and help her out. Even though they usually cause more harm than good. Edric knows Jerbo is the local crackhead abt Phantom but he likes him anyway. Emira and Viney both know that Phantom is Luz but they think it’s funny if they pretend they know nothing.

Lucio is right on the edge of being a little Fucked. A big sadist, this one. You don’t escape them without any scrapes in whatever mildly-concerning plan they have. A general disinterest in if other people get injured, but also will fight you for being a dick. Namely Boscha. They either fight the prick or vibe with them it completely depends on if they’re dicks to Luz & Skara or not.

Camila is generally her Own but still fights Phantom but is mostly just. Mildly annoyed by her. Used to be full out ‘kill the ghost again’ but now thats just the Blight parents. Phantom has since decided to constantly tease and fly around her when they’re Out n About. no self preservation

owl house pokemon au: blight twins

tumblr crashed when i was writing this post the first time. first post of this au here anyways!!!!! ed and em moments

edric:

out of all the blight siblings, edric takes training and battling his pokemon the least seriously. after years of pushing from his parents, those parts of having pokemon have lost their appeal; he enjoys casually spending time with and raising his pokemon the most, though he'll still have the odd battle here and there for fun. he especially likes doing double battles w/ emira.

his pokemon choices are surprisingly eclectic; he doesn't really care about for typings, much to his parents' frustration. though they tried for years to get him to adhere to their preferred typings (and to get him and emira to share a pokemon team, because, of course, the twins aren't at all individuals), they fought tooth and nail and rebelled behind their parents' backs enough that they came out the other side with individual teams that at least somewhat reflected their specific tastes.

edric usually chooses pokemon he thinks are cute or very funny

his team:

dark/dragon type, shiny for the blight colors. he and em were given zweilous as kids, (since its a 'twin' pokemon), during the time where they were expected to share a pokemon team. they used to raise it together, but as they got older emira began to resent it a little for what it represented and left it to edric for him to care for.

water type. edric chose this pokemon because he thought it looked funny and its a fantastic partner in crime for pranks

flying/dragon. he likes this one he thinks its cute :]

psychic type. not the typing his parents would prefer, but its a twin pokemon, so... it pleased them enough to get off his back about it. emira owns its twin brother. huge brat! like a rich heiress

dark type. he doesn’t even care his parents chose this one for him he literally cannot fucking wait for this thing to evolve

grass/poison type. it puts edric's entire head in its mouth when it gets excited

the same story as edric, but emira takes training her pokemon a tad more seriously. she has half-entertained dreams of becoming a famous contest competitor on her own merit rather than by riding on her famously strong parents’ coat tails in the battling world, but she's yet to take that wish seriously enough to be any good at it; although she does have a naturally good eye for fashion and aesthetics.

she usually chooses like.... pretty girl pokemon. you know the types of pokemon that usually become love interests for like meowth or whatever in the anime? those. she's vain what can she say. her favorite types are fairy and psychic

Haven't done this in a while but I had the time so why not?

1.- Pizza Girl by Kyoung Jean Frazier

🌟🌟🌟🌟

I really did like it, reminded me a lot of "Convinience store woman". Like clearly our protagonist needed thrapy ASAP to help her deal with her dad's death, her pregnancy, her attraction to women and hell just for existing as an Asian woman in the USA, but I liked how messy and obsesive she was and how the author allowed her to be fucked up and take bad decisions, I love to see female characters simply exist, it's also a pretty short read so I definitely recommend it.

2.-The Authentics by Abdi Nazemian

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Daría is a persian teen who is really involved in her cultural background and feels that the most important thing one can be is authentic, so that's the name she and her friends take for their clique. But everything comes crashing down on her when she discovers she is adopted, and soon follows an identity crisis. I loved it so much, it felt pretty realistic, like Daría could be self absorbed and unlikeable at times, but who wasn't as a teen? And we get such beautiful heartwarming moments between Daría and her family and friends. Totally recommend it.

3.- The Mall by Megan McCafferty

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Cassie has her life completely mapped out but nothing goes quite as planned, first she gets mononucleosis and after she gets better gets dumped and fired almost simultaneously. Determined not to let it get the best of her, Cassie gets a brand new job, reconnects with an old friend and even finds a hidden treasure. This one is so much fun, all the 90s references and the growth Cassie goes through is amazing, honeslty i would love to see this as a Netflix movie.

4.- Luster by Raven Leilani

🌟🌟🌟🌟

This book was hard, Edie is a very raw character, at first she seems flippant even when describing disturbing facts about her past or details about her relationship with a much older man she seems to be talking about something that happened to someone else all this to cope dealing with her solitude, her trauma, her self hate. And gosh it was so intresting to see her interact with Rebecca and Akila, especially Akila as Edie finds kinship in this young girl not only cuz they are both black but because they are both lost and afraid.

5.- Lakewood by Megan Giddings

🌟🌟🌟

Lena decides to participate on a financially compensated medical experiment so her mom can get proper medical care and to lessen their debts after her Grandmother's death.

So I had many mixed feelings about this, on one hand I liked that we are adressing how sistematical racism has permited experiments on black people with no consequences at all and how it has been happening for decades, but there were certain parts of the book that I couldn't enjoy as much because they were very trippy like I get we are on Lena's mind as things are becoming muddled up because of the medications and all those mind games and the words they have her memorize and repeat but all of it took me a bit away from the story. Still I do recommend it just be aware there is quite a bit of body horror in this so if you are sqeamish better skip it.

6.-The Voting Booth - Brandy Colbert

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Marva and Duke meet on election day as she helps him find the precint he is registered on.

This is very enjoyable, the story is very straightforward, and it insists on our right and responsability to vote even if we feel our vote alone can't possibly change all the injustice we see in the world. And also the romance was cute and developed slowly as Marva and Duke are just knowing each other. Really cute and quick read.

7.- Such a fun age - Kiley Reid

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Emira works as a babysitter for the Chamberleins' . She loves her little charge Briar, although she feels preassured to seek a 'real job' by her friends and by her own economic troubles. Emira soon finds herself in the middle of a tug of war between her boss Alix who tries to befriend her, and Kelley the guy she is dating.

So much drama. This is a great example of what performative activism looks like, first Alix is completely nuts, from her obsession to be seen as this wonderful understanding girl boss activist and the down right creepy sense of entitlement to Emira's friendship and intimacy. Like it doesn't surprise me she chose to victimize herself instead of recognizing it had all been a misunderstanding. And even then she still wants to seem atractive to the man she feels victimized by. Girl no.

Kelley is the ultimate fake woke ally. Dude Robbie was wrong period, he had no business inviting people over to someone else's house no matter the color of his skin. You don't get to talk over Emira on matters of what a person of color should do or feel on certain situations. That said it was so funny when he and Alix called each other out for their fetishization of people of color and yet none of them actually gave a damn about what Emira thought/felt/percieved. They just wanted her stamp of approval so they could pat themselves in the back for being such good allies.

8.- The Life and (Medieval) times of Kit Sweetly by Jamie Pacton

🌟🌟

Kit is working as a serving wench at the Castle, medieval themed restaurant run by her uncle, though she really wants to be a Knight, not only cuz the better pay would help around the house but because she really admires Joan of Arc, problem is the Castle management doesn't allow for anyone who is not a cis male to be a knight. Kit is set on changing that.

Ok so I feel a bit lukewarm toward this. Kit in my opinion doesn't get much growth, it seems she just can do whatever and her friends have to be ok w it, her romance w her friend feels pulled out of nowhere like Jett at one point tells her he is not intrested in dating her and then he is ???, those GoT references killed me, I get it I watched the show and sometimes even enjoyed it but it's not representative of anything medieval and Kit was always talking about how much she liked the actual history of the medieval times so...

Also as much as this book was about feminism and how we should fight for equal job oportunities, it feels as though Kit only cared about medieval woman who fought physically and not on the badass medieval woman, like idk it feels as a rejection of tradicional feminity like even the girl playing the Princess is a jerk. But I did like some parts, like her decision to confront her asshole dad to help her mom and the girls training together.

9.-Cien años de soledad de Gabriel Garcia Marquez

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

En Macondo, una población Colombiana a un lado del río, vemos como una de sus familias fundadoras crece, se expande y cambia a través de cien años.

Me encanto, hace mucho tiempo que no leía una novela de realismo mágico que me provocará tantos sentimientos. Creo que todos los personajes reflejan aspectos de la humanidad tan diversos y complejos que sería inútil tratar de enlistarlos todos.

Ultimadamente siento que lo que condenó a la familia Buendia a cumplir las profecías de Melquiades fue sus propia naturaleza que ellos nunca tuvieron intención de pelear, siempre sucumbian a las locuras o pasiones que los inundarán sin mesura alguna o consideración por las consecuencias. Y creo que aún así lo prefiero pues es lo que hace a cada personaje por confuso que a veces llegue a ser la repetición de nombres (que para mi es el simbolismo de una naturaleza y destino continuos) único e intrigante. En verdad espero que se den la oportunidad de leer este libro por lo menos una vez en sus vidas.

10.-The Monsters of music by Rebecca F. Kenney

🌟🌟🌟

This is a gender-swaped modern retelling of the Phantom of the Opera.

It was creative to make Mel, our Phantom, a true magical creature, and the singing contest was also cool. Like don't get me wrong I did have fun reading this but it also felt pretty unpolished like most characters were teens on the contest and that kinda made me roll my eyes a bit, like unless it's the Voice Kids age ranges are quite ample on this kind of shows, also kinda clumsy the addition of the magical elements with the modern setting, Kiyo didn't make much of an impression with me even when Christine is my fave on the original book. Still if you are a Phan like me you might wanna check this one out.

11.- Anna K by Jenny Lee

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This is a modern americanized ya retelling of Anna Karenina.

Not gonna lie this made me cry so much at the end. I really liked Anna and Vronski together so much, and I don't like the love at first sight trope, but here it felt so inevitable. Anna was so self contained until she met him and could truly explore being herself and they really loved each other so much. Also I liked the treatment of the side characters Kimmie and Dustin were well developed and I really enjoyed this one can't wait to get to the second book.

12.- Wonderland by Zoje Stage

🌟🌟🌟

It was ok, but I was actually a bit disappointed cuz I had such high expectations for it. Like for about half the book I was really into the atmospheric vibe the book pulls you into, but as we get the reveal it started to go down hill for me, and the ending left me feeling meh. But maybe it was just not my cup of tea.

13.-Home Before Dark by Riley Sager

🌟🌟🌟🌟

This book is so well crafted!!! I love how it goes back and forth between past and present , first it feels as if history is repeating itself, then as both narratives unfold we start to question and discovering things and the twist at the end was chillin and masterful, I truly and wholeheartedly recommend it.

14.- The Girl with the louding voice by Abi Daré

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Adunni, a teenage girl, flees from her husband to work as a maid in Lagos, though everything she has ever wanted is to study.

This broke my heart, as it reflects how people coming from rural backgrounds get taken advantage of in the City, like similar things happen here in Mexico, but also it made me glad to see Adunni fight and keep her spirit so no one could ever silence her.

15.- The Year of the Witching by Alexis Henderson

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Immanuel does her very best to fit in Bethel, follow the scriptures and the Prophets words, but nothing seems to be enough to erase her mother's sin especially when the Darkwood seems to pull her in. As a plague starts to ravage Bethel, Immanuel has to face her past to save her people.

So frickin' good !!!! This story is great, mainly about the explotation of woman and young girls by people in power (in this case a church), the atmosphere is always tense, Ezra and Immanuel 's relationship is very well developed and one can really see how loyal they are to each other. A great option for horror fans.

Okay, Okay, but hear me out... Owl House Speech and Debate AU.

There are A LOT of Speech and Debate terms/events in here, that most people who aren’t in speech and debate won’t know,so I am gonna make a quick glossary.

Humorous Interpretation: An Acting Event specifically for comedy.

Original Oratory: A speech that a person writes, can be about anything, usually used to comment on injustices and world events.

Dramatic Interpretation: An acting event but for drama.

Informative: You basically give a lecture about whatever for 10 minutes.

Program of Oral Interpretation: You weave together literature to create your own story that you act out.

Prose: You read prose

Poetry: You read poetry.

Lincoln Douglas: 1 v 1 debate

Public Forum: 2 v 2 debate

World Schools: 5 v 5 debate

Duo: Acting with 2 people but they can’t touch or look at each other

Duet: acting with 2 people that can touch and look at each other + they have a chair.

Double cross: When you are entered in 2 or more events at the same time.

Okay, that done? Into the AU.

Luz is a speech kid, and does Humorous Interpretation AND Original Oratory, but she only does OO because she wants to talk about Azura and her whole speech is probably about representation in media.

Amity is a debate kid, she does Lincoln Douglas debate and SOMETIMES does Public Forum but it’s only to impress the debate coach and she really doesn’t like it.

Gus is a little prodigy kid that seems to be great at everything. He does Humorous Interp like Luz, but also does Dramatic Interp, informative , Program of Oral Interp, and he does World School Debate

Gus finds himself running around a lot at tournaments. He is ALWAYS double crossed.

Willow does Prose and Poetry. She is the kind of person that either get 1st or 6th, never in between. She really doesn’t care about trophies though, and mostly joined Speech and Debate for the Good Friends and Good Vibes.

Edric and Emira do Duo and Duet. Their duos are always dramatic AF but their Duets are always comedic AF. They always make it to State with both these events, and have constantly made it to Nationals since sophomore year.

Eda is the theatre teacher which Luz constantly goes too for acting advice.

Luz doesn’t understand why other Speech kids don’t get help from Eda. ((It’s cause they are scared of her))

Lilith is the Head of the School Board and used to be a national level debater. She knew Amity’s father and he hired her to coach Amity.

Amity’s father is a big name Politician and wants Amity to carry on the families political name. He believes getting recognized for her debate skills can help with that.

While Amity likes debating, she really wants to start making friends and wants to try world schools, but her father won’t let her.

Luz, being new, one day asks Amity if she wants to do a Duet with her.

Amity rejects it, of course, but Luz playfully bothers her for like a whole semester.

Finally, after already qualifying for state. Amity decides to say yes before the last tournament of the season.

There is a whole sub-plot going on about how Gus is low key salty Luz never asked him, because he thinks they could have been HILARIOUS together, but he moves on.

they decide to do the Good Witch Azura Musical, because they both like the book so much.

Amity has to try surprisingly hard to hide the fact that she is doing an acting event from her father, ((Especially because she should be preparing for National Qualifiers))

Finally the last tournament comes and Luz and Amity do their thing. Amity doesn’t really think they will do that well, but they keep breaking till finally they make it to finals.

Surprise! They get 1st.

The coach basically begs them to take this to the National Qualifying Tournament, because everyone loved it and they think that they could honestly go far with this piece.

Amity freaks out because she really did like it, but if her father found out he would freak.

So she sulks in the bathroom.

Willow finds her and asks what’s wrong.

Amity spills a bit too much of her own tea. Also finds herself apologizing for being rude to Willow.

Willow, being the saint she is, gives Amity advice and basically says to tell her dad that they just need a filler contestant.

Amity is like “Oh dang that’s smart” and rolls with that.

So now she is doing both LD and Duet. Her LD/PF friends are kinda judging her for hanging out with the weird speech kid that won’t shut up about Azura.

Amity just says it’s to get on Coaches good side but really it’s cause she finds it fun.

I’m gonna cap it here. If you like this AU I will probably make more of these OR just write a fic. One of the two. Also, the five speech and debate kids that are on this fandom are probably the only ones that will like this AU, but honestly, I don’t care cause I think this is a fun idea. Also Also, feel free to add on.

Dana Terrace AMA (Part 2)

Lilith dyed her hair to appear more intimidating! I won’t deny her curly hair definitely is very friend-shaped, so I can see why! This does give me hope that now that Lilith is no longer in the EC, we’ll get to see her hair become frizzy again… Given how Dana went out of her way to make a contrast between the wilder appearance of younger Lilith, VS present-day, and I think it’s something she’ll return to now that Lilith is a Wild Witch like her sister!

As suspected, Lilith and Amity are rather cold and distant… Which makes sense, they parallel Luz and Eda, but they also contrast the pair! Especially when you look at their personalities, I can’t say I’m shocked… ESPECIALLY after Amity telling Lilith to ‘shut up’, and Dana confirming that Amity lost a LOT of respect for her teacher after Covention! Which makes me more scared that Lilith didn’t do anything to vouch for Amity to the Blight Parents, so YIKES… You’ve got a lot of explaining to do Lily, and I hope you and Amity can properly connect and heal in Season 2! Especially now that you’re on your way to becoming a decent role model for REAL this time!

We know that Camila (which is how Dana spells it which when combined with Enchanting Grom Fright’s credits, leads me to consider this THE official spelling) will sometimes buy Luz manga novels of her favorite series, but usually only on holidays or because of a good report card! Awww, why can’t you let Luz enjoy herself more? Like I get that you’re probably struggling a bit financially is a single, working-class mother and also have incentive of wanting Luz to not be ‘distracted’, but this hits close to home given how it reminds me of somebody else I know with ADHD…!

(Also, Luz would trace Hiromu Arakawa manga, which means that Dana has likely seen Fullmetal Alchemist, which means it’s very possible that Belos and his castle took cues from Father and that is a VERY validating revelation for me! They really do have that killer aesthetic, man…!)

Amity’s hair IS dyed and naturally brown, like her father’s… Which confirms more or less that those kids in YBOS are the Blight Parents, and also confirms Amity as a full-blooded Blight! Not to say I was right, but I was right… Mrs. Blight had Amity dye her hair green like hers to be color-coded, which is sickening as-is. Like, are Emira and Edric dressed similarly because their mother encouraged it? That’s a scary thought…

Regardless, if Amity DID rebel a little by choosing a more Azura shade, it seems Mrs. Blight doesn’t really notice or think much of it, because we know this lady will go far when it comes to getting what she wants and if she feels her kids are disobeying her! This also adds more credence to my belief of Mrs. Blight having been the one born into the family, while her husband married in as an outsider… It makes sense she’d have this kind of control in the family, more prominence given to her VA, and the ability to control their children on a visual level, especially if Green Hair is a Blight signature! I have to wonder what Mr. Blight thinks of this… Goodness, can you imagine if his wife made him dye his hair green, too?!

Dana alluded to the Blight Parents having more depth than we might suspect, which… YES, but also she says that Mr. Blight was fun and ‘interesting’ for her? I’ve speculated in the past that he seems a bit more chill and apathetic compared to his wife from the childhood flashback, and based on what we’ve seen from Understanding Willow…

I have to wonder if maybe Mr. Blight is someone who was caught underneath his partner’s abuse as well? Maybe Mrs. Blight also began controlling him, and he sort of just learned to go along with it and accept this…! I wonder if he also has ideas about needing to live up to the Blight family name, as an outsider and as his wife’s husband… And how that might be reflected in him repeating that ‘Blights only associate with the strongest of witches’ to Amity, like he speaks from experience! It’s conceited he calls himself strong in this sentence, but at the same time…

Given the implication that Mrs. Blight holds more power and was able to prioritize her looks in their children over her husband’s… I have to wonder if Mr. Blight is just someone who’s also resigned to her abuse, as a person fully-indoctrinated into her beliefs of superiority and having to set an example that pleases her! He gives me vibes as more straight-forward, like an enforcer while his wife has that more manipulative, mastermind vibes to her… Goodness, are we going to have to rescue Mr. Blight from his wife too?!

There is neither an end nor a beginning, there is just HOOTY… Nobody knows if he’s made of wood or flesh (which implies Eda didn’t make Hooty, just ‘taught him’, and not much), his true nature is deeply upsetting and a major spoiler, AND he apparently has an evil twin named Booty!

Amity is a jock! This is no shock, but Dana also alluded to her being ‘punk’ to impress others but not being comfortable, and… This GIRL, let her know she’s loved for who she is!

Dana confirmed that Bump’s imp on his head is named Frewin, and that he has a purpose…??? Maybe he’s a seeing-eye demon in the literal sense, or covers an exposed brain…?!?? I don’t know. We’ll just have to see, but for now it at least indicates that Bump IS the dude (as implied by Dana’s past art) and we’ll learn more about him, so neat! Bump is a cool and underrated character in my opinion, and I look forward to more of Frewin!

Witch Gems! Dana confirmed that they’re just a fashion thing like necklaces, and that Eda’s wasn’t originally meant to indicate anything… But then Dana realized it was a good visual indicator of her curse and went from there! It seems ‘Hearts of Stone’ is just metaphorical… I have to wonder if in-universe, Eda’s gem functions like a mood ring in that it’s a handy visual indicator of how bad her curse is getting! That alone furthers the disability metaphor, which I REALLY like!

(I have to wonder why we haven’t seen any male witches with chest-gems, is this one of the few gendered things that the Boiling Isles has? Give Edric a chest-gem, I know he’d wear a dress and rock it! Do the same for Jerbo, too!)

Dana also said that should Season 3 be approved (they’re still writing the end of Season 2 people!), we might get a birthday for a cast member! So… SHOW YOUR SUPPORT, give live ratings to this show people c’mon!

Luz is Amity’s first big crush, to nobody’s surprise… You can tell from the way she acts around Luz that this is somebody who’s shown her more unconditional love and patience for who she is than anybody else in her entire existence, that it’s an almost alien feeling to Amity… and while it’s sad she’s never had someone so accepting of her in her life before, it’s also heartwarming to see Luz provide so readily and unconditionally! No wonder Amity is smitten…
