Omg just imagine Morpheus softly watching his wife (newly turned immortal human soulmate) interact with the residents of the Dreaming, like she’s super sweet and smiley, and all the residents absolutely love that she’s their Queen. She has a sweet friendship with Lucienne and Matthew, and has bonded with Hob as well, and she honestly just has Morpheus wrapped around her lil human finger 🥹
This is too fucking cute and I’m melting 🥹🥰
You who immediately jumped into the role as queen and was giddy to help. You ask Dream what you can do and although he wasn’t hesitant at first he slowly gave you some of his responsibilities. You help Lucienne almost everyday and talk for hours as you both restock and reorganize bookshelves
You who visits Fiddler’s Green for picnics and having a one sided conversation telling Fiddler about the day and new things in other parts of the Dreaming. Having tea with Cain, Abel and Goldie and they love with you come around (they also love gossiping a bit and Matthew always swings by because he can get all the juicy details and stories). You getting close with nightmares and dreams alike (Corinthian 2.0 becomes a good friend)
When Hob visits you show him all your favorite spots and you both share stories of your immortal lives (and tell funny stories about Dream but don’t tell the king or he’ll be a little upset)
And every time Dream sees you interacting with the Dreaming and his subjects his heart melts. His shoulders definitely don’t feel as heavy now and he has you to thank. When it’s just the two of you he’ll kiss your temple and whisper ‘thank you’ which confuses you at first but you smile and say ‘you’re welcome’

Cain in the Hazbin Hotel Universe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
History (within the universe of the series, outside of religion).
Unlike his younger brother, Abel, Cain was not content with his rude and controlling father. He made no effort to calm him down and faced him, even with his mother and brother putting themselves in front.
One day, both Cain and Abel decide to get the angels' attention, to see if things calm down in the family. It turns out that Abel sacrifices the best lamb in his flock and receives attention from Sera and Adam. Cain offers a share of his harvest, but is refused due to lack of effort and receives further rejection from his father.
Cain saw his brother becoming an Adam 2.0, increasingly distant from his mother and teaching moral lessons.
Driven by envy and anger, at seeing his brother mirroring his father, Cain ends up fighting and consequently hitting his brother with a rock.
By the time he realized the mistake he made, it was already too late. Sera sends him to hell and Eva's screams are heard, both due to Abel's death and Cain's fall.
Before he can wander aimlessly through hell, Cain is rescued by King Lucifer and Queen Lilith, who, out of consideration for Eve, raised him as their first child.
Cain trained to control and give meaning to the title of first assassin, awakening the dark wings and maintaining order in hell in his master's name.
However, with Charlie arriving, Cain was afraid of committing the same sin a second time and decided to travel through hell, expanding the territory and only returning to the vicinity when the first extermination arrived.
He ensured that the number of deaths did not reach the thousands, but secretly stained the streets gold, using Carmine equipment, paid for by Lucifer. However, he avoided remeeting his father.
In the last extermination (in the hotel) he disguised himself among the cannibals, at the behest of Lucifer himself, and it was on that day that he found his father again, only dead.

“You’re Losing Me” By Taylor Swift is THE later season Destiel song, specifically from Castiel’s perspective.
If somebody has already said this then… uh, uh, uh- :3
Immediately, the first lines suit the two of them SO well:
Tumblr media
Dean not understanding why he and Sam were set up for the fate that they were: Michael and Lucifer, Cain and Abel 2.0, Angel and Demon. Cass was there to tell him that he doesn’t always get it either. Take the bench scene from 04x07 for example:
“You misunderstood me, Dean, I’m not like you think. I was praying that you would choose to save the town.”
“I’m not a hammer, as you say, I have questions; I have doubts. I don’t know what is right or what is wrong anymore.”
Cass was always willing to explain and guide, even in times when Dean had lost almost all hope. He and Dean used to appreciate the world for its beauty and delicacy. Now it’s over and Cass sits in The Empty (the dark).
Tumblr media
Dean became so complicated and angry as the seasons progressed. He was always so contradictory and Cass kept getting confused and lost. He got kicked out by Dean and barely even knew why. He didn’t know if everything they had become had been tossed out.
He kept rising from the ashes metaphorically and literally. Metaphorically, when he was kicked down by Dean (or anyone for that matter), he would get back up and continue to help the Winchesters for the greater good. He was stronger than he got credit for.
Tumblr media
Dean’s anger and isolation made it nearly impossible for either Cass or Sam to communicate with him. He turned them away, got angry, broke things, drank too much, or acted plain arrogant. Eventually Cass was getting fed up (rightfully so).
Tumblr media
Cass and HIS CANON GLARE- when he gets so angry that he glares instead of speaking because that spoke louder. Because he knew Dean wouldn’t listen to a damn word he would say.
Dean once called him a brother, but now he said that the only constant in their plans ‘s downfalls seems to be Castiel:
“The plan changed Dean, something went wrong, you know this, something always goes wrong.”
“Then why does that something always seem to be you.”
All Cass wanted was to talk, instead Dean turned it into his fault completely and blamed him for things out of his control (Mary, Jack, Rowena…).
Tumblr media
Their air was always thick with loss off hunters, loss of battles, loss of hope. It was full of indecision of how to move forward when all possibilities seemed like dead ends.
Each time that they were in a situation that they felt stuck in Dean would be mad. Dean would take that anger out on Cass as if his presence at all was an imposition.
Dean never realized truly how much he loved Cass until Cass was gone to The Empty, for good.
Tumblr media
THIS BRIDGE WAS FUCKING WRITTEN FOR THEM AND I WILL NOT ACCEPT A DENIAL OF THIS STATEMENT ‼️‼️
They were THE sad song for ELEVEN years. Eventually when Dean almost killed Castiel’s son in front of him, that pushed Cass over the edge. That was enough. Cass had given him everything. Cass rebelled against heaven for Dean, he lost everything for Dean. He dealt with Dean’s hot and cold temper for YEARS without complaint, only compassion.
“AND ALL I DID WAS BLEED AS I TRIED TO BE THE BRAVEST SOLDIER !! FIGHTING IN ONLY YOUR ARMY FRONTLINES DON’T YOU IGNORE ME”
That lyric IS Castiel. Prove me wrong, you can’t.
Cass always wanted Dean to just see him, and in the glimpses Dean did, Cass was his happiest. But, as the seasons progressed Dean stopped outwardly appreciating Cass at all. All he showed him was frustration and anger.
Tumblr media
1. “Do something, babe, say something” is versatile. Early season Dean would say it to early season Cass. It is also 15x03 Cass saying: “I tried to talk to you over and over again, but you don’t care. I’m… dead to you.”
2. “Lose something, babe, risk something” Early season Dean to early season Cass.
3. “Choose something, babe, i got nothing” LATE SEASON CASS TO LATE SEASON DEAN !! Specifically 15x03 (again <3) when Cass says “Jack’s dead. Chuck’s gone. You and Sam have each other. I think it’s time for me to move on.” HE WAS SAYING HE HAD NOTHING LEFT.
Tumblr media
This song is just so Destiel coded and I cannot keep this in my head or I will explode.
PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE if u have imput reblog or whatever and talk about it because lyrical ships are SO important to me.

how would zucest be better than how the comics handled zuko and azula? genuine question
Well, I think Zucest would solve several of the problems both Azula and Zuko had with one another in canon. Mainly seeing one another as equals and having a fairly healthy relationship. Also since the rivalry is toxic for both.
Zuko in particular since...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...I refuse to let him live that down. Ever.
Yeah Zuko was a total ass towards Azula in the comics, often for no reason other than pursuing his grudge. Which in my opinion turned him into effectively Ozai 2.0.
That in turn makes Azula's wish to turn him into a better Fire Lord on Smoke and Shadows...problematic. Since if she's doing it for him, that means she's crawling back to her now abusive brother.
Plus it wouldn't solve anything for her since obediently serving a master like she would be doing for Zuko in the comics is just like how she served Ozai in the series. And look how well THAT turned out. The way the comics are going with her relationship with Zuko wouldn't solve anything.
So, yeah. The comics try to paint Zuko as the Abel to Azula's Cain, but it doesn't work since Zuko becomes an asshole while Azula becomes a servant without a will again.
Zucest on the other would treat both of them as equals and possibly strive to fix their relationship instead of one putting all the responsibility of fixing it on the other.

“Inherit the Earth” and the Fakeout
Absolutely genius.  Amazing, iconic, legendary, something only our showrunner Andrew Dabb can pull off.
"But Lilly, the episode was so bad!  It was just the brothers, they didn’t look for Cas and Eileen!”
YES.  THAT IS EXACTLY THE POINT.  THIS WAS A FAKE ENDING, THE END OF THE SEASON, NOT OF THE SERIES.
Let’s get into it.
An empty world.  No one left but Sam, Dean, and Jack.
So Dean ran, he somehow managed to pick himself up off the floor of the dungeon and meet up with Sam and Jack.  That jacket was this silent reminder.  Remember what I’ve been saying, Cas has occupied the negative space all season, this is no exception.
Dean can’t look either of them in the face, he’s doing that thing, where his eyes move everywhere BUT where he should look.
“I couldn’t save anybody.”
Sam couldn’t save the world and Dean couldn’t save the one person that means the world to him.
“Where’s Cas?”
“Dean?”
I think it’s there, in that pause where Dean tries to push down the emotions, continue the fight, not think about the memories he left in the bunker, that Jack realizes what must have happened. Jack is the only one that knows about the deal, he has to know what Cas not being there must mean.
“He saved me.  Billie was coming after us.  Cas summoned the Empty.  It took her...and took him.  Cas is gone.”
This may shock you, but I am GLAD they didn’t talk about Cas, especially with what happens at the end of the episode.  Cas is allowed to just take up unsaid space.  It’s obvious he’s missing with the way they blocked things, obvious he’s missing here.  This whole “oh well they don’t care about Cas because they didn’t talk about him”?  Malarkey.
“Jack I’m sorry.”
Guilt.  Regret.  Pain.  Dean will carry this with him for the rest of his life.  Not only that he lost Cas, but that Sam lost Cas, that Jack lost Cas.
That SHOT, with the distance between Jack and Sam where Cas is SUPPOSED TO BE, and then a zoom out to...THE WORLD.
Tumblr media
Okay, as usual, Bucklemming has the subtlety of a sledgehammer lmao.
Jack crying???  Praying to Cas????  Bruh?????
Also it’s just straight-up frightening for everything around my boy to die he is my baby son.
Also not to point out the incredibly obvious, but Dean starts drinking immediately, and continues drinking throughout the whole episode.  Grief arc 2.0 babey.
“We can what, Dean?  There’s no one left to save!  Everybody’s gone!”
“You can’t just give up.”
“What other choice do we have!”
Idk why, but for Sam, who’s the constant, the one who’s always had hope, through everything, through all these years, when he finally says this, when he finally loses his hope?  It hits the hardest.  Sam is the leader, so not only is he grieving the loss of Eileen, he is a general grieving the loss of his soldiers, his friends, the world that he feels the duty to save.
When they go to meet Chuck, I just can’t get that image of Dean, leaning against the car, handprint still on his jacket, staring at the ground out of my head.  It takes him a few seconds to catch up to Sam, like he’s pulled out of thoughts like deep dark water.  Remember friends, it doesn’t have to be loud to be powerful.
Chuck wearing BLACK?  FEAR.
“That’s right, the whole Cain and Abel thing.  Us dead, whatever.  I’ll kill Sam, Sam’ll kill me, we’ll kill each other.  Okay, you pick.  But first?  You gotta put everything back the way it was.  The people, the birds...Cas.  You gotta bring him back.”
Willing to kill his brother.  Willing to die.  Tears in his eyes, begging God to bring Cas back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Chuck?  Chuck doesn’t care about their surrender, he knows he’s already got them beaten.  He cares about their pain, he cares about them suffering, because to him?  That’s the entertainment.  He’s not entertained by their found family, by their happiness, by their joy.  He wants them to suffer, all of them.
“Eternal shame.  Suffering.  And loneliness.”
And he leaves them with just that.  No hope, no family, just the three of them, broken, alone.  Jack locked in his bedroom, Sam trying desperately to make life “normal” again.  And Dean.  Dean who drank so much he passed out on the floor.
He doesn’t feel terrific, he feels like shit, because not only is he dealing with the shame of an empty planet, he’s dealing with the guilt of being back in the place where the Empty took Cas.
This whole thing with the dog was just absolutely heartwrenching shit and if I didn’t hate Chuck before, him snapping Miracle right in front of an already fragile Dean would seal that deal.
I just want everyone to know that this is a Jake Abel stan account.
“Daddy’s boy” is a big insult for my boy Dean to use considering his own past with his trash abusive father but I’ll allow it.
I do think it’s interesting, ending of his arc aside, that Michael is willing to help them now.  What changed?  Sure, he ended up trying to help Chuck, running back to his father, but why get back in the game?  I wonder if it has anything to do with the loss of Adam.  It’s an interesting parallel, a man loses his angel while an angel loses his human.
Everything is so DARK in the Bunker now too, even the lighting is loud.
When I tell you I lost my shit when I saw Cas was calling Dean, when I heard Misha’s voice??  I knew it didn’t make any sense but I didn’t care, I would’ve been one step behind Dean as he sprinted towards the door.
Fuck you, Eugenie.
I mean it’s torture not only to Dean, who looks beyond fucking crushed when it’s damn Lucifer at the door, but for us too.  Who the FUCK wanted Lucifer back?  And to tease Cas???  Garbage.
I mean...fam.  Listen, we know who’s writing this episode, this whole Betty thing is just like blatantly unnecessary but again, Eugenie loves Lucifer, gotta distract her with a shiny toy lmao.
It was cool to see Michael and Lucifer onscreen together.  It was a cool dynamic that we rarely got to see.
The whole episode is just twist after twist.  Listen, it’s their last episode so I guess they needed to fit in a season worth of twists in one episode.
Bye Lucifer.  We know Eugenie can’t bring him back.  Blessings to all.
This scene with Adam is the FOURTH scene where Dean is drinking...big yikes to my guy’s liver.
Here’s the thing about Michael.  He’s a mirror for Dean in season 5.  Loyal to an absent father.  He has never changed, but Dean has.  Dean is able to acknowledge now, the trauma that his father put him through, he was able to move past the need for pleasing him at any cost.  Michael and Chuck?  Are John and Dean, if Dean had never been allowed to grow.  And Chuck proves, like John did, that he would always put his wants (in John’s case “the mission”) over his children.
Also not to beat a dead horse but Michael’s death was also peak Eugenie.
Sam getting to punch Chuck in the face?  Thank you, he deserves that.
Obviously I don’t love any scene of my boys getting brutally beaten.  But what I love, what I will always love about them, is what Chuck hates about them:  they won’t ever give up.  They know they won’t win against him, they don’t even land any hits, but that’s not what matters.  What matters is their controller doesn’t control them anymore, that they really are free.  No matter how hard they get hit, the get back up.  It is their choice to stand up to him, no matter the cost.
The moment where Sam and Dean are supporting each other, covered in blood, and they look God in the face, and they laugh.  That is why I will love them unconditionally for the rest of my life.  That is who they are, they will never cow to the villain, whether that’s Azazel or Alastair or Zachariah or Lucifer or Amara or Death or Metatron or Cain or God.  They will always choose to stand up.
“Why are you smiling?”
“Because.  You lose.”
Chills.  What a line.
And Chuck is left, small, human, no longer a villain, no longer anything.
Gotta be real, woulda been nice to, idk, not see all this essential plot in a flashback, but I know I can only ask so much of Bucklemming.
For Dean to walk away from killing Chuck, right after he’s called him “the ultimate killer” is quite simply the most beautifully heartwrenching thing I could ever ask for.  Because that’s who Dean was under Chuck, that’s who Chuck wanted him to be.
And he would have before:
Tumblr media
But he’s heard some things since then, heard some things about how others see him.  Not as the killer, not as a monster, not as angry and broken or his daddy’s blunt instrument:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m not saying that Dean doesn’t kill Chuck for Cas.  He doesn’t kill Chuck because he doesn’t think he has to anymore, he doesn’t kill Chuck because he listened to Cas, he took Cas’ words to heart.  He made the choice not to be the killer.
“See that’s not who I am, that’s not who we are.”
Tumblr media
And Chuck is angry, because he thought, after everything, even after losing, that he would still know Dean well enough to know that he would kill him.  But Chuck has never really known Dean, he has never understood where he’s really come from.  Cas understood, Sam and Jack understand, but Chuck never did, and writing off Dean as angry and broken is his biggest mistake, because that’s never been Dean.
“It’s not his power anymore.”
And it’s not just his physical power, it’s his power over the story, over the boys that’s the real power taken from him.
For Jack to be the one to bring everyone back, for him to be the hero of the story?  That’s poetic right there.  Now, I will say, I don’t think this story ends with him as God, because for him, the child, to take on this burden, it doesn’t make a ton of sense to me for his arc, but we shall see next week.  It felt pretty tied up, but there’s one major loose end: and that’s Jack seeing Cas again.
“Just you and me, going wherever the story takes us.  Just us.”
“Finally free.”
This doesn’t feel triumphant to me, it doesn’t feel like relief.  It feels like they’ve settled, like this is the best they’re going to get, so they might as well make the best of it, at least they have each other.
For Cas and Jack to be carved into the table?  I cry.
And for the montage, very similar to “Swan Song” to be set to “Runnin on Empty”?  Sorry but that’s just too sus to be ignored.
They packaged this episode as an ending, because for many, it might be.  The season’s story, the season about fighting Chuck is over.  So, you might be asking (or, well, screaming, judging by my replies lol), what’s left?  And that’s a good question, Chuck has been defeated, so what is left?  What’s left is what’s really mattered all season: the relationships that have been crafted over the years.  Dean and Sam’s unhappiness at the end of the episode, where “just you and me” sounded more of a grudging acceptance than anything else, is one of the clues that has to be looked at.  Why didn’t Sam find Eileen, why didn’t Jack bring back Cas?  Those two characters specifically are the ones we need to watch out for.  As I’ve said over and over again, peace, contentment, satisfaction, those don’t come from Sam and Dean on the open road together anymore.  They have a family, more of a family than they did when they started hunting together all those years ago, and that family is what holds them together.  They need each other, of course, but each other isn’t enough anymore.  Sam needs Eileen, Dean needs Cas.  That is where they will find their peace.
This episode, as many written by Bucklemming was sloppy, rushed, packed full of shit, and had little gems that we can talk about forever, but that was the end of the season, and next week?  Andrew Dabb brings us home, where Dean and Sam will finally be able to choose what they want for themselves, and that, my friends, is Eileen and Cas.

dickroy or jayroy
Dickroy, hands down. I've never come across a single story featuring Jason with Roy and Kory in any capacity that prioritizes maintaining Dick's importance to them at the same time as exploring Jason's importance to them, and that's a dealbreaker for me. Sorry not sorry, but I'm not gonna throw away several decades of character dynamics and interactions that left a lasting impression on me because Lobdell was too fucking lazy to build up lesser known characters in new relationships with Jason and instead just nabbed a couple high profile characters he then proceeded to treat as glorified OCs paying no attention whatsoever to anything that MADE them popular or high profile in the first place, y'know? LOL.
Also, I get that ages are a mess in comics and who even knows how old Roy and Jason are meant to be respectively these days, but I've read NTT so many times the interactions of 'literally JUST became a father Roy Harper' and 'literally just started puberty last week Jason Todd' back in their first encounters - like, that's where my thoughts automatically jump to when I think of Roy and Jason first getting to know each other in any capacity, especially when most fics about them pull largely from pre-Flashpoint, such as with the presence of Lian. And so its like.....it doesn't mean they can't ultimately be friends as adults, but nah, I can't imagine Roy ever looking at the guy he can personally remember knowing as a baby-faced teenager at the exact same time Roy had a baby of his own, and being like yes, this guy and I are extremely compatible and on the same page in life experiences and priorities.
(But also longtime followers can tell you a big theme of mine is insisting that Jason deserves friends and dynamics of his own that don't have any overlap with Dick whatsoever and so each brother's friends can easily prioritize them without constantly pitting them against each other in the process and thus eternally perpetuating the myth of Dick and Jason as Cain and Abel 2.0 where they repeatedly swap roles there. And there's a TON of characters in Jason's age range that could make for compelling friendships and relationships for him before his death, after his death, or in the event he never died at all. I'm talking like Todd Rice aka Obsidian or Courtney Mason aka Anima or Ray Terrill aka The Ray or Tom Bronson aka Tomcat, Owen Mercer aka Captain Boomerang II, Cindy Reynolds aka DC Give Her A New Codename, Cisco Ramone aka Vibe, Grant Emerson aka Damage, hell....Freddy Freeman aka Captain Marvel Junior and pre-death Jason Todd would have totally been nerd buddies. The possibilities are endless. Like seriously, there's SO many characters DC just has lying around that could have been built up into a team or friends for Jason, but nah. Lobdell's like, that sounds like work. Anyway, I'm particularly partial to the possibilities of Jay/Todd Rice and Jay/Tom Bronson, but that's just me).

I love writing cain & abel 2.0 (my ocs for marble hornets) so much and how different they are.
Older sister who has had the operator sickness since she was practically born, who accidentally spreads the sickness to her younger sibling the one (1) time she has a relapse, whose life is slowly getting worse and worse and decided to kill their sibling to spare them and then nothing happens, because the sibling is somehow, back, and nothing changed, and she doesn't want to murder her sibling, but she will if it's to spare her (and maybe she blames them, in part, bc if only they had been stronger, if only they had been better, she wouldn't be like this)
And then you have the younger sibling who's main hobbies is getting high and collecting bugs and who admires the fuck out of their older sister, bc she's always nice to them.

The Dreaming: Waking Hours issue 8 review
I know I’m a bit late with this.   Issue eight of The Dreaming: Waking Hours was... okay.   That’s pretty much all I can say about it.  It’s fine.  It’s fine.
The art is gorgeous.  I’ll give it that.  Daniel is just beautiful.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sometimes I can almost forget he randomly murdered an entire bachelor party just for drunkenly cat calling Ivy.  (I am NOT getting over that!)
Tumblr media
It is a little annoying that Matthew somehow drastically misinterpreted Heather and her intentions.   Also when did Matthew know about Sykes, the protection amulet, and even when the helm was taken?  When did these off-camera conversations with Dream about his Preludes and Nocturnes misadventures happen?
I’m not a fan of miscommunication / lack of communication driven plots.  I, frankly, think they’re lazy.  The CW lives off them.  It’s part of why I stopped watching CW DC themed shows.  Every show was dependent on characters not talking to each other.  Even right now if you watch Batwoman a major plot is hinged on her keeping a kryptonite bullet wound a secret.  ...Why?   The reasoning is flimsy at best.
I seem to recall, during the Simon Spurrier run of The Dreaming that it was mentioned that Nuala gave Dream her love and or sympathy.  I forget the exact wording right now but I had a feeling back then that she meant literally, which entails her capacity to feel these emotions.  What could possibly go wrong with that?! (Sarcasm intended).  And this is probably the reason she is now ruling Faerie with an iron fist.
The joke about Faerie smelling a lot like weed was completely unnecessary and a bit of a mood killer for me. I’m tired of fantasy and surrealism being associated with being high.
That’s petty, I know.
I’m still convinced Heather is actually trans.  It’s just not a major plot point, which is a good thing because I’ve come to like her and if her being trans is treated like an after thought, well, I think that’s wonderful.  So many writers treat being trans like that is a personality but no, she has a fully fleshed out personality and I even like her, a Hell of a lot more than Simon Spurrier’s OC (original character), Dora.
The clues are there.  She’s on a permanent medication. (Probably hormones), Puck seemed to think her medical history was important.  (Either she’s trans or she has a very serious illness that hasn’t been brought up yet). Also her name.  Heather After. It feels like a chosen name to replace an unwanted deadname.  And the flashback of her parents being supportive, and encouraging, telling her she could wear what she wants, etc, but they draw the line at magick.
Anyway, yeah, that’s about it.  It’s good to see Mervyn NOT being used as a Trump supporter allegory.   We missed you, proper depiction of Mervyn Pumpkinhead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is it wrong that I’ve started to care more about Heather than Ruin’s quest for Twu Lub?
Also I still don’t like the idea that “Nightmares aren’t supposed to be able to feel love.”   Cain, Abel, and even The Corinthian 2.0 beg to differ. Remember, The Corinthian wept in The Sandman: The Kindly Ones.

In Supernatural's pilot, on of the first scenes has John Winchester asleep in front of a TV full of static. If they wanted to go with the whole "life is a TV show made to indulge God", they could have used that moment.
John was in front of a blank TV because there was nothing yet to watch. That night was the beginning of the whole show. And he was sleeping, the first spectator. He was bored because there was nothing interesting and he was also a direct parallel to Chuck, the cruel boss behind the mask of the loving father.
It is John who asks Dean if he thinks Sammy is ready to play with them, followed by Dean saying goodnight to Sam. Right there you stablish a performance, a play, and Chuck's perfect ending: Sam dying and Dean saying farewell.
John is the one who puts Sam in Dean's arms and commands to protect him, and John is the one who used his last words to tell Dean to kill Sam, getting the whole Cain and Abel thing started.
And if you want to go further, you can use as twisted parallels the scene of John in the graveyard where Dean killed Azazel with the Colt and Chuck in the graveyard when he asked Dean to shoot Jack. Or you could parallel John saying to Dean to get a family, as a symbol of how Chuck didn't consider either Team Free Will 2.0 as Dean ending. Jack should be dead, Sam should be dead, Cas should be out of the narrative.
I'm just— why keep on trying to make John sympathetic instead of using him as a narrative foil for Chuck? Uh?

Wait, wait, wait...is that...Chuck really did insert himself into the whole SPN story, didn't he?
So let me get this straight.
Sam sacrificed himself in season 5 by throwing himself in the cage to hold Lucifer
Tumblr media
And when the boys are trying to defeat Chuck and trying to fool Amara into helping them trap Chuck, Dean mentions Chuck's caging of Amara and how she shouldn't be loyal to him (this is after she mentions how the universe was created when they split apart aka the Big Bang Theory) and she says this line:
"Maybe I'm a fool but I believe caging me hurt him deeply. And I know for me to do that to him would be an agony."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sam: "We'll give you what you want."
Dean: "That's right. The whole Cain and Abel thing. Us dead. Whatever. I'll kill Sam. Sam will kill me. We'll kill each other. Okay? You pick." (x)
Cain tells Dean that he killed Abel to keep Abel from being destroyed by Lucifer. He made a deal so Abel's soul could go to Heaven and he doomed himself to Hell. Lucifer accepted as long as Cain killed Abel. "And then would come the one murder you would never survive. The one that would turn you into a savage as much as it did me. Your brother Sam." (x)
The whole Michael vs Lucifer thing (including 5x22 & the lead up to that foretold battle):

The time Lucifer made Jack and Sam decide who would kill who before Dean steps in (when Sam was a dad to Jack but also an older brother in the Winchesters 2.0 family dynamic):
youtube
Amara: "No, I won't betray him like that."
Dean: "I get he's your brother but--"
Amara: "Apologies, Dean, but you don't get anything. You see me sitting across from you. You see a woman. You see Chuck as a squirrelly weirdo. But you can't imagine what we really are. We came into existence together. We are the same."
Sam: "The former Death, he told us you were the first born."
Amara: "Or he told you what you needed to hear. Chuck and I were twins. Creation and Destruction. Light and Darkness. Balance. And when we split apart, all of this was created."
Sam: "The Big Bang?"
Dean: "When you split? So when he threw you in the cage? When he betrayed you? When he trapped you for an eternity?"
Amara: "You can't play on that. Not with me."
When the series began, Sam and Dean were split apart (pre-story) because Sam was in college and Dean was still hunting with their dad. It's when John disappears that Dean goes looking for Sam and they are reunited.
Chuck locked Lucifer away in the pit (pre-story) to keep him away from mankind and Heaven in order to keep humans safe. Michael was with Chuck (as were the rest of the angels) until Chuck took off.
Cain has to kill Abel, effectively splitting them apart for eternity since Abel would be in Heaven and Cain was doomed to Hell. -> done at Lucifer's behest
Sam kills Lillith and unknowingly sets Lucifer free from the pit
Dean takes on the MOC from Cain which frees Amara from her cage
Lucifer is freed from his cage by Cas agreeing to let him ride shotgun in order to fight Amara
And of course then you have this breakdown:
Dean -> Heaven/Light/Michael/Cain (who originally was destined for light/Heaven but made a deal to save his brother just like Dean did in the end of season 2, and also took on the MOC which again destined him for Hell/to become a demon, in order to kill Abbadon) -> nickname "Squirrel" (I know this wasn't meant to be a part of the show originally like Moose but it's in there)
Sam -> Hell/Dark(ness)/Lucifer/Abel (who originally thought he was talking to God but it was Lucifer instead, something Sam actually has happen in season 11, not to mention it parallels Sam's story of being a soldier of Hell's creation but choosing not to go down that path)
Chuck -> God/Light/Creation (even though he ends up the ultimate villain in the end)
Amara -> God's sister/Darkness/Destruction (even though she ends up wanting to save Chuck's creations near the end & ends up in harmony with Jack)
Jack -> Lucifer's son/Nephilim/Good/ends up becoming God
Everyone always thought the whole brothers theme with an absent father theme was to reflect Michael and Lucifer, Cain and Abel, etc. And they were half right, absolutely. But in the end, it all goes back to Chuck and Amara. Holy shit.
It was Chuck's own story ALL ALONG.
