CHEF ILONA: SUSHI DIP

This season, I want you to think about making sushi into something very accessible even to the picky eaters in your life.

Sushi is a dish that often requires a significant number of preparations in advance and myriad of highly perishable ingredients.

My creamy sushi party dip significantly reduces the amount of time required to prepare sushi rolls, while still evoking a similar note of the dish in a far less demanding approach. The base is made with cream cheese, flavoured with wasabi and soya sauce. The base is subsequently topped with familiar sushi ingredients.

I like to buy hot smoked salmon when it’s on sale and stash it in the freezer for when I make sushi at home, so I am using it as my seafood component on my sushi dip. If you prefer surimi crab, sashimi grade salmon/tuna, or even teriyaki chicken, make the substitution. The flavours here are meant to evoke the flavour memories of eating those massive fusion style sushi rolls you get when you go out for cheap and cheerful maki.

When serving this dip, it is a playful move to serve with a crispy rice snack/cracker to complete the sushi roll concept.

If you are taking this dip to a potluck, I would recommend spreading the cream cheese layer on your serving dish of choice and the rest of the ingredients minus the sriracha mayonnaise; plastic wrap will destroy your creative efforts as undoubtedly the sriracha mayo will get squished all over everything else.

Creamy Sushi Party Dip

1 package (250g) cream cheese, softened

1 tbsp wasabi

1 tbsp soya sauce

1 tbsp vinegar

1 cup hot smoked salmon, flaked

1 avocado, cubed

½ English cucumber, made into ribbons with a peeler rolled up into pinwheels

¼ cup pickled ginger, julienne or as is

¼ cup green onion, sliced on a bias

Sriracha mayo for a zig zag garnish

2 tbsp sesame seeds, toasted for garnish

¼ cup seaweed (nori), cut into strips (julienne), for garnish

Rice crackers or other crispy snacks to serve

Instructions

In a large bowl, combine softened cream cheese with the soy sauce, wasabi, and vinegar. Spread out onto a serving dish with as much whimsy as desired.

Next arrange the hot smoked salmon, avocado and cucumber ribbons, pickled ginger and green onion.

To finish the dish, apply a zig zag pattern of sriracha mayo across the dip and scatter with toasted sesame seeds.

Serve with rice crackers or your favourite crunchy dipper.

WEF nařizuje novinářům, aby „ztichli a přestali“ odhalovat tajnou globalistickou agendu

Světové ekonomické fórum (WEF) nařídilo mainstreamovým médiím a novinářům, aby „ztichli a přestali“ odhalovat jejich tajný program a místo toho se zaměřili na důležitější otázky, jako jsou „změna klimatu“ a „online dezinformace“. Adrian Monck, výkonný ředitel WEF, také kritizoval politiky, kteří zpochybňovali politické návrhy globalistického orgánu, zejména v Kanadě, kde od začátku pandemie zuří národní debata o rostoucí kontrole WEF nad světem a roli, kterou WEF hraje v energetické krizi. Podle Moncka každý, kdo zpochybňuje cokoliv, co WEF říká nebo dělá, šíří dezinformace. "Bohužel, Kanada byla jedním z těch míst, kde... existuje zranitelnost vůči dezinformacím." Je to otevřená společnost. A...ten konkrétní proud dezinformací se dostal do hlavního proudu,“ řekl Monck v sobotním rozhovoru pro CBC Radio v pořadu The House. "Kanada by teď měla mluvit o spoustě věcí. Nemělo by se skutečně mluvit o Světovém ekonomickém fóru se sídlem zde v Ženevě." Problém ale je, že Světové ekonomické fórum sídlící v Ženevě tahá za loutky v kanadském parlamentu. Klaus Schwab se totiž chlubil „proniknutím“ do kanadské vlády svými Mladými Globálními Lídry, včetně premiéra a místopředsedy vlády. Proč by tedy Kanaďané neměli mluvit o svých skutečných vůdcích z WEF sídlící ve švýcarské Ženevě? Monck dále tvrdil, že termín „Velký reset“ je ve skutečnosti jen neškodným řečnickým obratem vytvořeným během pandemie COVID, který si nezaslouží žádnou skutečnou pozornost. Řekl to Catherine Cullenové, moderátorce pořadu The House v CBC Radiu. „Jednou z věcí, o které se naše organizace snaží, je říci lidem: ‚Dívejte se dál než je jeden týden, tři měsíce a přemýšlejte o některých možných dlouhodobějších věcech, které byste mohli dělat.‘ To bylo cílem velkého resetu v létě 2020." Samozřejmě, Monckův argument je sám o sobě dezinformací. Sám zakladatel WEF Klaus Schwab se chlubil, že jeho organizace „pronikla do kabinetů“ mnoha vlád prostřednictvím svého programu Mladí Globální Lídři, k prosazovaní politiky Great Reset – tato skutečnost sama o sobě stačí k zamítnutí Monckových stížností. The Great Reset je mnohostranná iniciativa zaměřená na deindustrializaci rozvinutého světa, transformaci globálního potravinového systému postupným vyřazováním masa ve prospěch hmyzu, vývoj systému sociálního kreditního skóre v čínském stylu a přísnou kontrolu pohybu lidí, to vše ve jménu boje proti změně klimatu a zachování „demokracie“. Uvědomělí lidé odhalili jejich agendu Great Reset, a proto WEF svolalo začátkem léta summit, který diskutoval o tom, jak „obnovit důvěru“ veřejnosti. Byli také přistiženi, jak mažou na internetu důkazy o svých plánech používat ovládání mysli u mas pomocí špičkové technologie zvukových vln. Bohužel pro WEF Klause Schwaba je internet nesmazatelný. V roce 2018 totiž publikovali článek s názvem Ovládání mysli pomocí zvukových vln. Samozřejmě to bylo smazali z jejich stránek, ale díky Wayback Machine máme důkazy o jejich technokratické zkaženosti. Máme také důkazy o jejich obecné nebo zahradní odrůdové zkaženosti. WEF se nespokojuje s tím, že lidstvo bude nutit živit se potravou z hmyzu a brouků, ale chce, abychom pili recyklovanou odpadní vodu. Šéf Agentury pro životní prostředí Spojeného království, který je úzce propojen se Světovým ekonomickým fórem, minulý týden oznámil, že obyčejní lidé musí být „méně hákliví“ při pití vody „od záchodové po kohoutkovou“ z čistíren odpadních vod, protože země a státy na celém světě směřuji k recyklaci odpadních vod pro lidské požívání, což je v souladu s ideologií WEF. Sir James Bevan, jehož názory již dříve šířilo WEF, v článku The Times píše, že „pití recyklovaných odpadních vod je budoucností“. Myšlenka recyklace toaletního odpadu pro lidské požití - byla kdysi říší dystopických sci-fi filmů - získává celosvětově na síle, protože WEF proniká do vlád. Kanadský premiér Justin Trudeau a Nizozemsko úzce následovali  WEF a její agendu Great Reset, konkrétně její návrh na snížení emisí dusíku omezením hnojiv, což mělo za následek masivní protesty farmářů. Podobně francouzský prezident Emmanuel Macron minulý měsíc prohlásil „konec hojnosti“ pro občany uprostřed zpráv informujících o prudce rostoucích nákladech na energii vyvolané vládami napojenými na WEF v souvislosti s válkou Ukrajině s tím, že by tuto zimu měli lidé drasticky snížilt vytápění svých domovů. Hi everyone, I will be in the Fredericton Botanic Gardens starting Monday for two weeks carving up a storm from 0830-1600 hrs or 8.30 am to 4 pm. Gary Crosby is a visual artist who specializes in woodcarving. He spent 35 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, living abroad for much of that time.

Gary was able to learn from many experienced artists around the world-including the prolific woodcarvers found within the Black Forest region of

Germany-which allowed him to spend his spare time honing his carving skills and developing his unique style.

During his residency, Gary will carve a sculpture out of New Brunswick cedar of a group of seven larger-than-life salmon. Podcast Recommendation: Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls

While I love to read, I find it hard to listen to audio books. I need to give it my undivided attention because if it’s just playing in the background while I do something else, I start to miss things. I have a similar issue with podcasts. 

However with these ones by investigative journalist Connie Walker, I make the time to sit down and really listen. They are incredibly heartbreaking and so, so important. Each season is the story of just one of the many missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls in North America. The majority of cases are unsolved. There are many where authorities said the death or disappearance was not foul play but have no other answers. The families believe otherwise and struggle to find support or justice in system that has largely ignored or downplayed the issue. 

This podcast popped back into my head the other day as I read more news about Sarah Everard, a British woman who was killed while walking home one evening a few weeks ago. So much coverage for a Caucasian female while the faces and stories of many Indigenous or women of colour never make the news. 

These women deserved better. We all do.

CHEF ILONA: LENTIL LOAF w/ a SMOKY MAPLE GLAZE

If you’re looking to find new ways to make plant-based recipes a regular feature at your kitchen table, this lentil loaf with a smoky maple glaze is a surefire way to make that happen. Texture plays such an important role in making plant-based “meatloaves” enjoyable and I bring in texture using mirepoix, chopped nuts, oats, and the combination of both mashed and whole lentils. If you prefer, you can make this loaf with chickpeas, but I prefer the lentils for the overall colour of the final product

What’s mirepoix?  Mirepoix is the combination of aromatic vegetables used in classical French cuisine. The ratio is 50% onions, 25% each carrots and celery.

Lentil Loaf with a Smoky Maple Glaze

Serves 6

1 can (540 ml) lentils, drained

3 tablespoons olive oil

2 medium onions, small dice

1 cup carrot, grated

1 cup celery, diced as small as you can manage

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 TBSP dried oregano

½ cup chopped pecans

1 cup old fashioned rolled oats

½ cup parsley, chopped

3 TBSP tamari

2 TBSP ground flaxseed

3 TBSP nutritional yeast

2 tsp maple syrup

1 tsp vinegar

½ tsp salt

Glaze:

½ cup ketchup

¼ cup maple syrup

2 tsp smoked paprika

1 tsp granulated garlic

1 tsp onion powder

1 TBSP Marmite

For the sauce: Stir all ingredients together.

For the loaf:

Heat the oil in a medium-sized skillet. Add the onions, celery, dried oregano, and garlic and sauté for 3 to 5 minutes, or until soft.

Add lentils (reserve ½ cup for later), cooked veggies, pecans, oats, tamari, ground flaxseed, nutritional yeast, maple syrup, vinegar, ground pepper and sea salt to a food processor.

Pulse until mixture is just combined and the texture is to your liking.

Stir in remaining lentils, and parsley.

Press into a parchment-lined loaf pan.

Spread glaze over the top of the loaf.

Cover and bake in a 375F oven for 30 minutes, and then uncover and bake for another 10 minutes.

Remove the loaf from the oven and allow the loaf to rest for 15 minutes before slicing.

Much of that plan targets the oil and gas industry, but another Alberta flagship industry is also being asked to change. In February, Ottawa earmarked $180 million dollars to help farmers become more efficient. And as the CBC’s Monica Kidd tells us, Alberta producers are already adapting. LISTEN HERE.
