I managed to make it to the last hour of my town's local craft show yesterday afternoon, and as I scoped out the assorted crochet booths, it became clear to me that I've set the bar brutally high for myself in terms of when I'm creating something sale-quality.

I figured I had to be engineering my own intricate patterns at least. Turns out "cute and semi-competent if not original" is fairly standard for most sellers. I already knew that most pattern writers are fine with their users selling finished pieces so long as they get credit in the advertising, but somewhere along the line--and in spite of finishing several pieces--I decided it would be cheating, lazy, excessively mediocre, and an embarrassment if I did it.

It gave me something to think about as far as a reality check goes, because I know I'm a little better just than semi-competent. Pattern sellers generally have little to worry about in terms of quality with my pieces representing their designs. Unfortunately, I have this bad habit where the more burned out or depressed I feel, the higher I set the bar for myself creatively--which is both counterproductive and counterintuitive. It was nice to see something IRL--multiple examples of it, really-- to combat that nonsense.

Sometimes people ask me why I can’t sleep well and it’s because my brain is like this. It never stops. Ever. I love being a creative person. I love being inspired. But the problem is that this inspiration likes to pop in at 2 AM or when I have a deadline approaching. Lol. Anyone else have issues telling your brain to shut it and let you rest.

 sculpted a strange shimmery two headed snail, speckled with wild flowers on it's shell~
