Strawberries
Tumblr media
Easily one of my favorite foods, strawberries are more than a sweet treat to enjoy. They're also a powerful tool in kitchen magic, with a variety of wonderful uses that includes my strawberry sweet day spell recipe. In this post, we'll go more in-depth into their uses and benefits.
Strawberries are great for multiple things, but their most commonly 'used' properties include invoking success, luck, and good circumstances. However, they are also used in kitchen magic involving love and affection. The leaves are symbols of luck, and they may also ease the pain of pregnancy and childbirth.
Personally, my favorite use of strawberries includes success and luck. Such as my sweet day pancake spell, which uses strawberries to invoke a successful and luckily pleasant day. However, they also make delightful self-love sugar syrup. If you want my recipe for that, let me know!
There's also use for the 'scraps' - strawberry tops. Although completely edible, most people I know tend not to eat them. So, here are a few ways I use strawberry tops.
If you're the kind of person to just slice off the tops with some of the fruit, brew strawberry tea! Boil two cups of water, turn off the heat once it boils, throw in two handfuls of strawberry tops, and let 'em steep for about ten to fifteen minutes. You can add sugar or honey, or even brew some black tea and use the strawberry tops to make strawberry black tea.
Throw in sliced-off tops or the leaves (if you're a leaf-picker like me) into a smoothie. You can't tell the leaves are in there and it's packed full of nutrients and vitamins!
Make strawberry sugar syrup. As stated before, if you want the recipe, let me know and I can make a post!
As always, practice safely, do your research, and of course, blessed be.
Support your local witch on Ko-Fi!

So, today on silly headcanons that don’t matter and would probably never apply to the batch’s situation but I like them anyway: Random thoughts on what would happen if each of the batchers had to make a cake (and had unlimited access to all of the ingredients that they’d need):
Omega: Woo!! Cake!! *makes a bunch of space chocolate (there’s space chocolate, right?) cupcakes with a few different colors of icing so that she can put them together and make it look like Ruby. Wrecker keeps walking by to help out and even sneaks her some ruby chocolate chips so it can be a ruby chocolate Ruby cupcake cake. The end result is very cute, even if Omega does have to end up having to use mantell mix to make the face (someone kept eating her cupcakes and she ran out by the time she got to the face). The kitchen, though—it’s a complete disaster by the end, and Omega had the best time making that mess*
Hunter: So…my batter’s cured solid in the mixer. Is that supposed to happen? *Okay, so, his cake looks gorgeous. He’s managed to paint a sunset on Pabu onto what looks like a three tiered cake with buttercream, and it’s got this amazing texture and impressionistic look. Unfortunately, when you cut into it, it’s just three tiers of ground up ration bars fused into a kind of concrete using burnt caramel. It tastes like sand and death.*
Echo: It’ll be perfect as long as I follow the recipe. *He looks at the recipe, sees at least five ingredients he can’t eat, and decides to make a smoothie that he can eat instead. He’s not a big fan of cake, and that’s okay. It’s a really good smoothie.*
Tech: Baking is just chemistry. What could go wrong? *Lots of things. Lots of things can go wrong. Turns out that chemistry (outside of biochem) is a bit of a blind spot for Tech, and our guy can’t just follow directions without experimenting a little. Or a lot. In the end, he does end up with something. It’s not cake, but it’s definitely something. Some might call it clam chowder in a bread bowl. Really good clam chowder in a bread bowl. Just—it’s definitely not cake.*
Crosshair: Hhmm. *Crosshair can’t be too bothered to make a cake, so he buys three boxes of space funfetti cake mix, follows the directions on the box exactly, stacks the three funfetti cakes with funfetti icing in between, and then decorates the whole thing with the icing leftover from both Hunter’s and Omega’s cakes. That said, his piping is amazing. Everyone’s afraid to eat his cake because it looks so pretty. He also ate about five of Omega’s cupcakes, but it’s okay—she kept putting them on his side of the table so that he would.*
Wrecker: YEAH! CAKE TIME, BABY!! *disappears for three days and re-emerges with this gravity defying illusion cake that looks like the Maurader flying over a rocky moon full of B-1s. The B-1s are made of tempered chocolate and full of salted caramel, he’s using at least four different flavors of cake and three different kinds of cream filling, there’s a ganache river on the moon surface, the marauder cake is actually levitating (because Star Wars), it has jets of sugar glass that actually light up coming out of the engine, AND it fires choux pastry proton bombs that actually explode with jogan fruit mousse when they hit the ground. There’s even a whole section especially made for Echo so that he can eat it. And it all tastes perfect. He ends up the designated cake guy on the rare occasions they need a cake, and he couldn’t be more delighted.*

random ask: what is your go-to daily drink? your special occasion drink? detail delightful, recipe spectacular.
∧,,,∧ (  ̳• · • ̳) /    づ♡ I love you drinks [you're pretty cool though]
I love liquids. Boy howdy I love suckin' down liquids. Allow me to write you an essay. Every Morning: Blueberry Coffee with Hazelnut Creamer I've tried mixing it up, but nothing hits the same. Mid-Day (Some combination of this mess as needed): - Mtn Dew or limited release flavors if I'm doing soda - Cucumber Lime Gatorade for electrolytes White Gatorade is my backup - GSupps Melon, Apple Pie, or Lime & Jalapeno if I'm not doing soda - Winter Spice Tea when I can get it - Masala Chai, spicier I can get the better Every Evening: Korean Marmalade Tea (Yuja Cha) or Ginger Tea
Energy Drink: Monster Mule (Ginger Flavored) or Red Bull Fig Apple Both of which are either no longer in production or are hyper seasonal to my distress. If I can get ahold of one of those Freestyle Soda machines?: Half Raspberry Coke, Half Vanilla Coke. Rasp coke is super sweet, but if I cut it half Vanilla it rounds it out
My Special Occasion Non-Adult Beverages: - Chicha Morada, the purple corn drink. I've bought the supplies to try to attempt it at home soon. I will probably post how that goes. - Thai Tea - Taro Milk Tea with Egg Pudding My Special Occasion Adult Beverages:
- Mead - Schmoojee Beers of whatever the local store is carrying. These are dessert beer smoothies. - My "I'm Playing a Shooter And Need to Both Chill and Focus but Four Lokos Aren't On the Table" Special: Half Peach Schnapps half Rockstar Whipped Orange or Strawberry Flavor - My at-home drink I lovingly call "Swamp Water": 1/3rd Midori to 2/3rd Ginger Beer (Ting also works) with Filthy Cherries

Ms. Rose's handy drink booklet!
There are 7 main flavors that can be combined to make all drinks served*, they can be prepared 4 ways**, and all of them have one of 3 bases***. All drinks add up to ten drops unless they are Large drinks in which case all ingredients are doubled. All flavors are heavily concentrated syrups/potions that are stored in small color coded bottles with detachable eye dropper lids for refilling, these are then added to a base to make the final drink
* Sweet, Spicy, Bitter, Sour, Fruity, Salty and Floral (Note, Spicy doesn’t mean hot, humans have compared it to cinnamon or “Pumpkin spice”. Not sure how you think a pumpkin is spicy but I don’t have a human tongue I guess)
** Stirred, Warmed, Fizzed (carbonated), or Blended to make a slushy/milkshake consistency
*** Distilled water, “Coffee” or Plant milk (Don’t be a dick, if someone wants a cup of water with ice don’t charge them)

🍨Stardewies Favorite Desserts🍨
Stardew Valley ladies’ favorite desserts (including SVE)
Abigail
this girl is all about the desserts - banana pudding, blackberry cobbler, chocolate cake. Picks fresh blackberries from your farm every year.
Gets bananas from Ginger Island to make her own banana pudding. Definitely needs multiple alarms to remember to remove items from the oven.
loves everything pumpkin spice - mousse, pudding, pies, cakes, muffins, bagels, etc.
is first in line for a pumpkin spice latte. Complete with a cozy hat, scarf, and sniffing the steam from the beverage with a pleasant sigh.
chocolate pumpkin donuts? Is that a thing?
sucks on rock candy - nearly chipped a tooth once.
would drag the Farmer around the Spirit’s Eve festival to get all the pumpkin treats and candy (no black licorice though, please)
Claire
enjoys fruity desserts - apricots are her favorite.
Apricot jam and scones is a perfect snack with a hot cup of tea.
also loves apples - and bakes an apple pie every fall.
Eats a slice while in her garden and watching the birds at the feeder.
secretly stockpiles recipes from the cooking channel and her favorite movies.
stocks up on discounted joja candies and feels guilty about it later.
if in a romantic relationship, would enjoy a lazy afternoon between leafy fruit trees, lying in the grass, eating fruit and fresh cream on the farm.
Emily
drinks a kale and fruit smoothie every morning before she meditates. makes dessert alcoholic beverages all the time at Gus’s. Hardly anyone buys them, but she enjoys making pina coladas with fresh cherries and pineapple from your farm.
when she’s in a silly mood, she will put a scoop of ice cream in a beer after work. Gus might join her if he’s in a particularly jovial mood. Sam would absolutely join, but more ice cream, less beer.
picks up cranberry candy every time she visits Ginger Island
bakes rhubarb pie. She’s halfway decent in the kitchen, playing very zen music when she cooks. Might overload on sugar.
In a romantic relationship, the Farmer would be the unwitting participant in taste testing Emily’s sugary desserts and beverages.
Haley
Pink cake is her favorite.
definitely owns a frilly apron.
Dances in the kitchen a bit when baking.
eats ice cream with sprinkles.
organizes a cake walk fundraiser nearly every year. Coordinates with all the ladies of the community. Jodi, by far, bakes the most cakes - there’s always an overload of chocolate cakes of various sizes (perfectly iced).  Marnie enters a pumpkin cake. Robin “makes” a peach cobbler (really it’s Sebastian with Robin’s help). Caroline makes tea cakes.
Is very particular about the display of cakes, with her own right in the center on a lacy pedestal.
Any excuse to bake a cake for the farmer if in a romantic relationship, with fresh ingredients from their farm.
Leah
Not a big sweets person. Likes fruity dessert salads.
Foraged berries are a great treat! Salmonberries, blackberries,
Enjoys a slice of cheesecake every once in awhile - made from goat cheese.
really, really, really loves fruit punch (especially when it’s spiked)
needs Elliott (or the Farmer) to escort her home as she trips over her own feet if she’s too far gone on the “punch”
skips out on Haley’s cake walk - yuck! Pink cake! Blech!
Also doesn’t like cookies or ice cream. (What’s with this woman!)
Makes an exception for stardrop sorbet when it’s available at the movie theater.
Maru
kindly eats Emily’s (too sweet) rhubarb pie without complaint
this girl adores strawberries - fresh strawberries and cream is a delightful late spring treat.
also will eat pretty much any strawberry dessert - strawberry pie, strawberry pound cake, strawberry turnovers
makes little strawberry jam thumbprint cookies for everyone’s Christmas stockings.
buys Miner’s Treat from the Adventurer’s Guild regularly. (cave carrots, sugar, and milk so I’m guessing carrot juice smoothie popsicles?)
asks Alex to make her a strawberry soda shake in the summertime
begs her dad to take her to the Strawberry Festival in Grampleton. Demetrius still goes with her every year even if she can drive herself now.
if friends with the Farmer, would invite them along on her annual trip to the Strawberry Festival. If in a romantic relationship, would take the farmer sans Demetrius.
Olivia
cannot bake to save her life, but will eat plenty of chocolate and pink cakes.
spends the most money at Haley’s cake walk. gifts to all her friends.
loves dessert wines, especially when paired with cake.
also loves coffee-flavored desserts like her son. will dip biscotti in her afternoon coffee.
happens to enjoy apples dipped in caramel in the fall. got really into it one year and tried to make her own. the canning turned into a disaster. the apples were good.
would love to be invited apple picking if the farmer is offering. if in a romantic relationship, she would bring a favorite recipe for apple cake she has stored for years and shyly requests the “cutie” make it for her.
Penny
loves poppyseed muffins and poppyseed cake.
while she can cook, she doesn’t bake well. Prefers to buy her baked goods from Joja or Pierre’s.
that time she ate so many poppyseed muffins in high school that she tested positive for drugs by accident. She was so depressed, she ran away and cried up on the mountain and actually did weed with Sebastian.
she enjoys a good watermelon smoothie in the summertime. Alex keeps extra in stock just for her.
If in a relationship with the farmer, she regularly makes poppyseed muffins for breakfast.
Sophia
orders Japanese candies off the internet
keeps a stash of candy in her apron to nibble on throughout the day
likes unusual fruit cookies - apple and cinnamon chips, passion fruit cremes, rhubarb macaroons, mandarin orange flavored pizelles.
also would roll mochi with Sebastian late at night, if he would let her join him. brings wine from her farm to share.
leaves little treats out for the fairies on the eve of spring (like kids leave cookies for Santa). It’s a superstition she’s had since she was a kid. Has never failed to help her crop season.
would absolutely go do karaoke with friends and order all sorts of desserts for them - green tea ice cream, coffee jelly, banana sushi
if in a romantic relationship with the Farmer, would bring them a slice of Japanese cheesecake on the new moon.
And there you have it. See the bachelors here.

Castletown Café Episode 13: Butler Juice (Blue)
Tumblr media
It’s the middle of summer here in the Northern Hemisphere, and hot weather is in full swing. While I’m grateful my summer in Oregon this year has not been a repeat so far of last year’s deadly heat wave, I’m seeing what I experienced last year happening to the people in Europe this year. This isn’t just happening in Europe: record temperatures have been scorching northern Africa, the Middle East, and Asia as well. Having experienced such heat for myself, I know how awful and miserable it is, and I hope you’re all staying cool and safe, regardless of where you are in the Northern Hemisphere.
It’s hot here, too, in North America, and Oregon’s in the middle of its own heat wave right now as well, though it’s tame compared to what so many are going through. It may seem tone-deaf to present a recipe and an episode of Castletown Café when bringing up current events, but, I hope a recipe for a refreshing drink may help cool you down this summer, no matter where you are.
And if where you live is even hotter, you can skip making your own simple syrup for this drink, and just buy some pre-made. It seems you can find some simple syrups at supermarkets, and, of course, liquor stores - as well as alcohol-free Blue Curaçao syrup, which is the trick to making this Butler Juice blue. You can also omit the Blue Curaçao syrup entirely and just add blue food coloring to regular simple syrup if you want to be extra careful, especially if you’re making this for children.
Unlike my green Butler Juice, which was a smoothie, the Blue Butler Juice is a mocktail, because no fruit or vegetable produces juice that is truly blue. So instead, you’ve got to turn it blue yourself. What juice do we turn blue? Easy - lemonade. But won’t that turn it green? Not if you add enough Blue Curaçao syrup and stir it in well - and rather than use pre-made lemonade, you make it yourself, with fresh lemons. To make it a fizzy delight, we combine the blue lemonade base with club soda or sparkling water when fixing the drink in a glass.
This recipe is easy to halve or double. I actually started out with what I will call a “half-batch” for my first attempt with this drink (1/2 cup lemon juice, 2 oz Blue Curaçao syrup, and 4 tablespoons simple syrup) and I made a “full batch” the second time around. A half-batch serves 2 people, while a full batch serves 4. Great for a small summer party!
Tumblr media
BUTLER JUICE (BLUE):
3/4 cup sugar*
1 cup water*
4 fl oz Blue Curaçao syrup (alcohol-free)
1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 5 large lemons, plus an extra lemon for garnish)
Club soda/soda water/sparkling water
Ice
Frozen blueberries
Mint sprig, for garnish
Lemon wedge, for garnish
*Can be swapped with pre-made simple syrup if it’s too hot to use the stove
Wash blueberries and dry thoroughly. Place in a container and freeze overnight. You can freeze as many as you want, depending on how many glasses of Blue Butler Juice you plan on making.
Combine 3/4 cup sugar with 1 cup water in a saucepan over medium-high heat and bring to a boil while stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to medium-low and bring to a simmer. Continue to cook until the sugar has completely dissolved (I’d give it about 5 minutes). Pour your simple syrup into a container and let it cool completely. OR - just buy some pre-made simple syrup - the better option during a heat wave! You can look online to see what stores in your area may be selling some.
After your simple syrup has cooled, set aside one lemon and cut remaining lemons in halves, squeezing out the juice using a hand citrus juicer. Fill up 1 cup of fresh lemon juice and add to a container that can hold at least 2 cups to 1 quart.
Using a cocktail measurer or jigger, add 4 fluid ounces (or 1/2 cup) of Blue Curaçao syrup to the lemon juice and stir to combine, turning your lemon juice a a deep blue and sweetening it.
Add simple syrup to taste, anywhere from 4 to 6 tablespoons, or 8 if you want it really sweet. I used about 6 tablespoons of simple syrup, myself. Stir to combine.
To serve, start with preparing the garnishes and grab a sprig of mint, rinse, and pat dry (the mint provides extra aroma as you drink your beverage). With the spare lemon you’re using for garnish, slice into wedges or wheels and make a small cut so that they sit on the edge of your glass.
Pour 4 fl oz of the blue lemonade base into a tall glass, then pour in the club soda until glass is 3/4 of the way full. Stir to combine, otherwise, the club soda will just sit on top of the lemonade base. Be sure to leave room in the glass for the toppings.
Carefully place ice cubes in your drink and top with frozen blueberries. Garnish with the mint sprig and a lemon slice, wedge, or wheel. Serve or drink up and enjoy!
Bonus (cw: alcohol): If you want to make this a cocktail, combine anywhere between 2 to 4 fl oz blue lemonade base with 2.5 fl oz citrus vodka and half an ounce of true Blue Curaçao liqueur. Stir in the club soda and add the same toppings. Just remember to drink responsibly and stay hydrated!
