Aranea are large, shapeshifting spider people with innate spellcasting capabilities. Their natural form is that of a large, hump-backed spider about the size of a human, averaging around 150 pounds. They can shift between their true form and a specific humanoid form, as well as a spider-humanoid hybrid that maintains their fangs and spinnerets. Araneas typically live alone or in small groups, with their numbers rarely reaching above 10 within a single grouping. Multiple groups will live in close proximity of each other, allowing for a larger form of community, but they rarely involve themselves with people outside of these small groups. Most humanoids find araneas disturbing or even terrifying for their spider forms, contributing to the aranea's desire to avoid others.
In battle, aranea rarely fight to kill unless pressed. They prefer to use their magic and webs to incapacitate foes and either escape or hold the enemy hostage. When defending something of great importance or when facing enemies who have shown great cause for harm however, the aranea will use its poisonous bite to kill as quickly as possible. Their humanoid forms are used to avoid drawing additional trouble in the times where they are required to interact with humanoids, but aren't as effective for battle as their other forms. As such, unless truly desperate to keep their identity a secret, an aranea will typically return to its true form, or at least its hybrid form, as quickly as possible if a fight seems inevitable. Some aranea train their humanoid bodies to be better fighters, in which case they may wield more effective weapons and be better prepared to defend themselves.

5th Edition
Aranea Medium monstrosity, any alignment Armor Class 14 (natural armor, 16 with mage armor) Hit Points 84 (13d8 + 26) Speed 30 ft., climb 30 ft. (spider or hybrid form only) Str 11 (+0) Dex 17 (+3) Con 14 (+2) Int 14 (+2) Wis 13 (+1) Cha 16 (+3) Skills Arcana +4, Deception +5, Perception +3, Stealth +5 Senses blindsight 15 ft., darkvision 60 ft., passive Perception 13 Languages any two Challenge 3 (700 XP) Poison Dagger. If the aranea is in humanoid form, it typically carries two does of its own poison. As a bonus action, it can apply one dose of poison to its dagger. The next time it hits a creature with a Dagger attack within one minute, the target is also affected by the aranea's poison (as its Bite attack). Spider Climb (Hybrid Or True Form Only). The aranea can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check. Web Walker (Hybrid Or True Form Only). The aranea ignores movement restrictions caused by webbing. Actions Bite (Hybrid Or True Form Only). Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d6+3) piercing damage and the target must make a DC 12 Constitution saving throw. On a failure, the target takes 14 (4d6) poison damage and is poisoned for one minute. While poisoned in this way, the target has disadvantage on Strength checks and saving throws, and on attack rolls that use strength. A poisoned creature can repeat the save at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. On a successful save, the target takes half as much poison damage and is not poisoned. Dagger (Hybrid Or Humanoid Form Only). Melee or Ranged Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d4+3) piercing damage. Web (Hybrid Or True Form Only). Ranged Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, range 30/60 ft., one target. Hit: The target is restrained by webbing. As an action, the restrained target can make a DC 12 Strength check, bursting the webbing on a success. The webbing can also be attacked and destroyed (AC 10; hp 5; vulnerability to fire damage; immunity to bludgeoning, poison, and psychic damage). Change Shape. The aranea polymorphs into a Medium or Small humanoid, or into a Medium humanoid-spider hybrid, or back into its true form. Its statistics are the same in each form. Any equipment it is wearing or carrying isn't transformed. It reverts to its true form if it dies. Spellcasting. The aranea casts one of the following spells, requiring no material components and using Charisma as the spellcasting ability (spell save DC 13): At will: detect magic, mage hand, minor illusion 3/day each: charm person, mage armor, sleep 1/day each: invisibility, mirror image
13th Age
The aranea's stats assume it always shifts to its true form or hybrid form before it starts fighting. If it's completely unable to do so, or chooses not to for some reason, it can only make melee basic attacks with a dagger (dealing the damage of its bite without any possible additional effects), and cannot use Web or climb walls. It can still cast Sleep and use the benefits of Blur however.
Aranea  3rd level caster [beast]  Initiative: +7 Poisonous Bite +7 vs. AC - 5 damage. Natural Even Hit: The target is also weakened (save ends). R: Web +7 vs. PD (up to 2 nearby enemies in a group) - 2 damage. Natural Even Hit: The target is also hampered (save ends). Natural Odd Hit: The target is also stuck (save ends). Limited Use: 3/battle, never two turns in a row. R: Sleep +7 vs. MD (1d3 nearby enemies in a group) - The target is dazed (hard save ends, 16+). First Failed Save: The target is weakened instead of dazed (hard save ends, 16+). Second Failed Save: The target falls unconscious (hard save ends, 16+; it also ends if the target takes 10+ damage). Miss: The target is dazed until the end of the aranea’s next turn. Limited Use: 1/battle. Blur: The aranea gains a +2 bonus to AC and PD against attacks that are only able to hit a single target. It doesn’t get this bonus against attacks that roll the number of targets randomly, even if they only roll 1 target. Wall Crawler. AC 17 PD 14 MD 17 HP 46

Oh shit, it's a wolf with a bomb on it! They often work with groups of creatures, moving in and activating their bombs once several targets are locked up in melee, willing to detonate their allies if it means getting a few enemies as well. Most creatures they're partnered up with are fine with that trade off.
Outside of dreams, the blood wolf is just a well trained, stronger wolf with a bomb. Likely used by people who aren't druids as shock weapons, sending them sprinting into enemy lines to explode on top of expendable troops. Necromancers and warlords who recruit big forces of people they view as lesser would be a fan. Originally from the Dreamblade base set. This post came out a week ago on my Patreon. If you want to get access to all my monster conversions early, as well as access to my premade adventures and other material I’m working on, consider backing me there!
5th Edition
Blood Wolf Medium aberration (bloodcut), unaligned Armor Class 15 (natural armor) Hit Points 65 (10d8 + 20) Speed 40 ft. Str 15 (+2) Dex 18 (+4) Con 15 (+2) Int 6 (-2) Wis 15 (+2) Cha 9 (-1) Senses passive Perception 12 Languages - Challenge 3 (700 XP) Keen Hearing And Smell. The blood wolf has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing or smell. Pack Tactics. The blood wolf has advantage on attack rolls against a creature if at least one of the wolf's allies is within 5 feet of the creature and the ally isn't incapacitated. Actions Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (2d4+4) piercing damage and the target must succeed on a DC 12 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. Detonate. The blood wolf activates the bomb it's carrying. At the start of its next turn, if it isn't dead, it explodes, dying instantly. Each creature within 15 feet of the wolf must make a DC 14 Dexterity saving throw, taking 14 (4d6) fire damage and 14 (4d6) force damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful save.
13th Age
Blood Wolf  3rd level wrecker [aberration]  Initiative: +7 Bite +7 vs. AC - 8 damage. Pack Attack: The blood wolf gains a +2 bonus to attack and damage for each ally engaged with the target (max +4 bonus). Bomb: The blood wolf activates the bombs strapped to it. At the start of its next turn if it is still alive, it explodes and is destroyed. When it explodes, it deals 1d6 fire damage to each nearby creature not engaged with it, and makes the following attack against each creature engaged with it: C: Detonate +9 vs. PD - 20 fire damage. Miss: 5 fire damage. AC 18 PD 17 MD 13 HP 46
