i just realized i don't think i've ever written them actually getting married? i wrote them at someone else's wedding before, but not their own.....

it'd be fun to do that with kuwsk because i imagine so many things going wrong and it being completely chaotic. all of obi-wan's family is there so as not to offend anyone. qui-gon brings his adopted son maul (out on parole) as his plus one because maul's invitation must have gotten lost in the mail (it didn't). dooku makes the caterer cry. yoda is the flower girl because luke and leia kept arguing over who would be the flower girl. dooku makes anakin cry. shmi msplaces the rings accidentally through no fault of her own. quin is obi-wan's best man. padmé is anakin's best man. both try to take credit in their speeches about who got them together. ahsoka is the only student of obi-wan's that's invited and she's been bribed to tiktok the whole thing

due to some hijinks and or miscommunication, the twins find out that obi-wan and anakin are going to go on a fancy trip all by themselves without the twins which is just not allowed. anakin is really going to put his foot down this time because the twins can't just cry and get their way and this is his goddamn honeymoon goddamn it, but obi-wan is like....maybe they have a point anakin love........is it really fair to leave them all alone while we have a nice vacation...........we can have sex anywhere......i AM marrying into the family, perhaps the twins should come.......

Time Travel is my favourite trope and I think we need more fics where both Obi-Wan AND Qui-Gon time travel together because no matter when they get sent it's chaos. They're saving the galaxy and being physic flash-bangs to everyone around them.

The entire council is baffled to watch as Qui-Gon 'never taking a padawan again' Jinn has suddenly cut off his post-Xanatos depression tour to return to the temple and beeline to the creche with a frantic energy. His wild eyes immediately single out a fluffy, red-haired initiate.

"You." he exhales with a pointed finger, slightly ominous as he towers over the child. Said child starts vibrating with delight. "Me." he agrees, launching himself at the man. Qui-Gon drops to his knees with a thud that cannot be healthy. Obi-Wan's attempts to clamber into Qui-Gon's robes and maybe onto his shoulders is thwarted by the fact that Qui-Gon's massive hands are cupping Obi-Wan's tiny squishy cheeks. He stares at the initiate for a few minutes with an intensity that is starting to worry people.

Finally, "You're so small." Qui-Gon sounds like he might cry.

'What the fuck?' Plo Koon projects at Mace.

"I'm 9! That tends to be the case!" the child chirps back.

"You're nine." Oh. Ah. Qui-Gon's eyes are distinctively misty. He squishes the boy in a hug so hard he squeaks. Mace makes a series of gestures that imply the need for a head-scan. Depa obligingly drifts off towards the halls. Qui-Gon scoops the child up onto his hip and claims him as his padawan on the spot. The assorted council members and creche-masters burst into noise. Mace tells Depa to bring some space ibuprofen as well.

Anakin is a little apprehensive of his place in both the order and Obi-Wan's life, but then one day Obi-Wan wakes up and is suddenly a lot less sad in the force?? In fact, if Anakin didn't know better he'd say he was almost giddy, but he's watched Obi-Wan try to pretend his world hasn't fallen apart for the past few months so it can't be that, right? And um, Miss Bant? He knows grief is a funny thing that affects people differently but he's pretty sure 'massive mood swing' and 'having full conversations with invisible people' is not...great? and you said to tell you if Obi-Wan got really weird in any way.

Anyway after a lot of medical exams, intense consultation with the archives, and a couple exorcisms, Anakin ends up being raised by his 'real' master and his ghost master. He is far more well adjusted emotionally and far less well adjusted for what counts as normal people behavior(not talking to thin air). When questioned on this, all he ever says is that he's talking to Qui-Gon. Isn't he...dead? Well, yes. Wait, he's a ghost? Ghosts are real? ...Well this ghost is real.

This starts a great number of existential crises among non-force sensitives and incredibly heated theological arguments amongst the Jedi. Whenever Obi-Wan is questioned on this, all he ever says is some variation of "the force got to know him for 5 seconds and kicked him back out." Mace backs him up on this even though that reasoning is technically blasphemous. Qui-Gon is having the time of his un-life. He's ascended to his final form, his sheer existence is a heresy, this is truly all he has ever aspired towards.

the Clone Wars?

The minute they get dropped back Qui-Gon immediately goes and haunts the shit out of Dooku. They have a signed terms of surrender and promise of info on the Sith Lord within the year. Only half of it is because Qui-Gon's giving Dooku complexes that are only perceptible to shrimp, the other half is because they now have a ghost spy that is not bound by the laws of physics nor spacetime.

Obi-Wan only nominally pays attention to this as he immediately goes and implements his 19 step seduction plan with Cody (he had to focus on something on Tatooine to pass the time). It fails. Spectacularly. Publicly. Ah right. Tatooine was not exactly the height of his sanity. Everyone in the GAR and temple is now riveted by High General and Councilor Obi-Wan Kenobi's attempts to go on a date with his Commander, who bats him away him like a particularly annoying stray and seems one bouquet of cactus away from committing mutiny. Anakin is worrying if it means his master knows about his secret marriage and this is some sort of really weird power play. (It is, but not in the way he thinks)

The next time Dooku goes after Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon spends a good few months appearing tear-stained at the edge of Dooku's perception and only communicating in terrible wails and discordant mutterings of 'padawan. my padawan. my little one.' 24/7.

"Wait, you're annoying Dooku into surrendering?"

"Oh no Anakin, we're crushing his psyche like a bug. :)"

Here wrapped in these sheets, where everything softens. Hushed. Kissed by the gentle rays of the moonlight.

You have been awake for some time now. But you didn't dare move. Anakin was still deep in his dreams exhausted from the day before. Despite his slumber, his arms wrap around you protectively.

You placed your head on his chest, following his breathing and listening to the soft thuds of his heart.

Your gaze lands on his peaceful expression.

How can someone look so beautifu?

You thought, he looked like the people in the paintings. Like how an artist would imagine a being with the perfect proportions. And he'd move as if each stroke is intended with grace.

The force made him. You'd sometimes catch yourself lost in his eyes, staring, studying the way it'd crease at the ends when he smiles. Is he even human? You'd think to yourself. He is the galaxy made flesh. That has to account for his prettiness, you think.

You take a deep breath; the scales of the ongoing war are further tipped to the Republic's advantage after Anakin had killed Dooku.

It was so close. Even the air itself has shifted. You can feel it, the end. You can almost visualize it.

Maybe then, things will change...

Selfishly, you feel your heart ache by the little amount of time you could share with Anakin. You can't help it, you have always belonged to him, and for that, you have suffered.

He is the Jedi Order's first. Before you can call him yours. You're not even sure if he is his own's anymore. Because you've watched how this war takes so much of him.

Be smarter, Be more cunning, Be more ruthless. Offer yourself again and again and again.

There's so little of him that remains.

You blinked, sighing once more. You reminded yourself that you are here, tangled in his embrace. It was enough to know that here he lies, with you.

Anakin shifts and you hold your breath. You begged the Gods to not wake him, not yet, let me have him, just for now.

Anakin mutters something. Huttese, the language he grew up on. Your eyebrows furrowed, you never really got to understanding the language even after studying it.

His heart paces under your touch. You kept your gaze on his face, deciding whether you should wake him up or have him rest.

He has been having so many nightmares lately...

His eyes abruptly open and you lent your weight on your elbow to better survey him.

"It's alright, Ani, it was just a dream" You spoke softly, careful not to startle him.

Anakin's wide-eye terror softens at the sight of you, his chest heaves trying to catch his breath.

"It's alright" You coo once more, placing a kiss on his forehead.

He presses his eyes close, and his eyes are intent in yours as he follows your breathing.

You can't help but feel a sting in your heart. He is reaching his limit, and it worries you that whenever he's away, he is close to blurring the lines and crossing it.

Anakin presses his face to your clavicle, and your hands find a way to tangle in his hair. Noticing his silence, you spoke soothingly "What's on your mind, Ani?"

Anakin's breath felt warm against your neck. You used to be able to read Anakin's thoughts. Like he'd write it down in words on pages of a novel for you to be able to understand him. But now, he's been more distant, more incoherent, and you feel as though you have to decipher every little thing that he allows you to see.

"mmm—just tired" Anakin's voice was gravelly and of resignation.

Stop turning me away. You wanted to say. But you already know that the more you try to push him, the further he'll hide away.

You take a deep breath, wishing you could take away some of the weight off his shoulders. "You know you speak in Huttese when you're asleep"

"I do?" Anakin tilts his chin, his eyes are still half-asleep.

"Yeah, I could never understand it though" You managed a wan smile.

"That's probably good for you, Huttese is a very coarse language" He claims.

"Still—" You held back your tongue, deciding it would only drive him away if you asked about his dream.

"I fear that you dream in a language I can't understand"

The silence hung. Anakin must be asleep.

Your gaze moved faraway— deep in contemplation. Wondering if you being in his life made any difference at all.

"You know, I only ever feel like myself when I'm with you, right?" Anakin speaks, voice barely above a whisper.

Your cheeks flushed scarlet, realizing your force signature may have revealed your anxieties.

"I know"

Anakin shifts his head, eyes latched on to you like he was memorizing every detail of your face.

"Ani" you began, "If there's a life after it all, will you come with me?"

Anakin's eyebrows flashed at the suddenness of your question.

"What do you mean?" He places his hand on the small of your back, tracing small circles.

"Well, I'm only wondering, will you come with me, even then?"

Anakin's expression softens, recognizing your fears. You were losing him, slowly, bit by bit. And if you're bound to him in this life, why not in the other?

When you can finally feel like you're not constantly the only one holding on.

He doesn't answer for a while, you feel the need to ramble, to withdraw.

It was silly of you to ask, he is free to choose whatever life he wants to live after it all, besides, if he decides to want to rest, you won't take that away from him, if he ever wants to—

"I'll go wherever you go" he declares, halting the thoughts plaguing your mind.

His eyes drift away from yours "I can't... I know what my duty requires of me and I'm sorry if I haven't been here for you."

"But, I'll love you in a time that isn't stolen" he promises, tucking your hair away from your face.

You felt tears glistening in your eyes. You smiled, leaning in to tenderly kiss Anakin.

The hope of it all would be enough to keep you going.

Just a little while longer.

Hey so if you’re new here and haven’t been around longer than ten minutes you might not know that my fave fave fave tropes ever are 1: time travel and 2: Obi-Wan getting adopted by Mandos, so whenever I find a time travel fic where Obi goes back in time and is promptly adopted by Mandos I get so excited trust me there are a lot but rn what I really really really want is a fic where I combine one of my fave headcanon type things that I like to put in fics with my second fave trope being Force Sensitive Jaster Mereel and then combined with Obi-Wan and Anakin (and probably Shmi too lmao let’s have a force sensitive babies party here) as force ghosts with Jaster and suddenly one of them comes back all ‘YALL I KNOW HOW TO GO BACK IN TIME I FIGURED IT OUT’ and so they all go back in time with the pure goal of saving their peoples (Mandos, Jedi AND slaves okay we makin a trifecta of people who got the worst bullshit in Star Wars two of which got all the blame when literally all of it was Sith and slavers faults) and Jaster goes back in time to Korda 6 and looks around for Jango so they could retreat only for little grunts of ouchies I fell to happen and he looks over to see a small pile of toddlers Obi-Wan, Anakin, Shmi, (Boba and like six other clones you know I have to) and is all ‘oh shit. Please be potty trained please be potty trained please be potty trained’ and now he has to go find Jango to call them back to their ships and tell Jango he in fact has a bunch of new vod’ika all of whom still have adult memories and also can you hold Boba please he’s a crying mess he just wants Jango nvm you can be that one’s Buir he bites lmao NO DONT HOLD HIM LIKE THAT JANIKA I RAISED YOU BETTER and now they’re back to Mandalore and Jaster is all ‘shit. We made this plan to save ALL our peoples. Well fuck.’ And now he’s all wait a sec and calls up the Jedi (yes they had him on hold for 3 hours and he kept bouncing between departments it was very annoying with Obi-Wan’s little fangies teething on his vambraces making the most annoying sound ever the whole time) and now he’s able to sorta blank for a solid 30 seconds before blurting out that they have force sensitive babies and the Jedi can’t have them and then Anakin HANGS UP ON THEM YOU LIL SHIT THAT DIDNT SOUND GOOD and the Jedi sorta like text him back all ‘??? Good for you???’ And now Jaster has to call them again and explain that he needs help with these lil shits teething on his armor and throwing people into walls when they sneeze and the temple is all ‘listen we can send out a master with docs but we’re a lil busy looking for a Stewjoni initiate that disappeared from the nursery’ ‘oh you mean this one?’ *holds up Obi by an ankle who’s chewing furiously on a vambrace’ and says they can’t have him back the kara gave him that baby!!!!! So now they have to send out a team whereupon Plo and Dooku are suckered into a -three way with Jaster- a deal upon which the Mandos will help the Jedi leave the Republic who use them like attack dogs and then they can stop slavery together and raise babies!

Anyways. I just think that would be neat.

someone asked me for fic recs and I already had it listed out, so I decided to post here! these are some of my fave fics that (for the most part) focus on whump. these are in no particular order. this is not an exhaustive list by any means, I have plenty of more favorites that I have saved but I wouldn’t quite call them whump fics. also, these don’t really encompass a broad variety of whump genres, more like I have a type and that is captivity/torture. yes, i’m a sicko. if I could, I would rec everyone’s whumptober/febuwhump/etc, but maybe I’ll do that separately if there’s enough interest. obviously, there’s some heavy shit on this list, including noncon, so please read the tags and take care of yourself.

A Temporary Mercy by @swranger (6k, M, GDOV, series WIP) - citadel au. so this one is great because if you’re like me you were probably disappointed by the quick save obi et al got in the citadel arc and that he wasn’t...hurt a bit more.

something inside this heart has died (you’re in ruins) by @revanchxst (22k, T,  CCNTUAW, completed) - two things i love, codywan and pain. I was craving a fic where cody replaced rex on kadavo and goddamn this one delivered. 

i just wanna keep calling your name (until you come back home) by @revanchxst (15k, T, NAWA, completed) - what if chipped-cody started dreamsharing with obi-wan? this is the first one that’s not quite physical whump but it’s sprinkled in there along with plenty of angst. also there’s a line in here that made me cry so much i have it saved to a widget on my phone.

Recollection by @elwenyere (18k, E, NAWA, completed) - within the first few paragraphs i knew this one was gonna hurt. honorary mention because it’s cody whump and not obi whump but still plenty of pain.

Suns Tempered By Devotion by @come-chaos (15k, E, R/NC, completed) - another one that’s more codywan than whump, but this one is on here because it killed me and i have still not recovered.

In the Line of Duty by shipping_ruined_my_life (5.7k, E, GDOV, completed) - the obi whump exchange was good to us. codywan + the good ole tortured-in-front-of-the-other with a twist!

Offset by @deviantaccumulation (64k, M, GDOV, completed) - i have this one saved as “qui-gon’s alive and dooku’s a bitch”, pretty self explanatory. A+ whump.

Dreams by @geodax (2.7k, M, CCNTUAW, completed) - so grievous definitely had some kind of psychosexual obsession for obi and we all know it. this...builds on that :)

Of Teachers and T'ayl'e by @levitatingbiscuits (8.7k, NR, GDOV, WIP) - also not a whump fic per se, but he’s hurt for enough of it that i’m including it. this encompasses everything i love about jangobi.

The Dark Side of Obi-Wan Kenobi Part 1 by @mostthingskenobi (25k, M, GDOV completed) - a post-lawless au with some truly delicious torture.

Conjuring Miracles by @kcrabb88 (30k, M, NAWA, completed) - again, we were deprived of some good whump by the kenobi show when tala shows up miraculously to save him (and vader forgets that he controlled fire like 2 seconds ago). this remedies that beautifully.

See My Dreams All Die by @temporaryuniverse-writing (34k, M, GDOV, completed) - what if obi-wan killed anakin on mustafar, so sidious tried to make him fall instead? plenty of great whump, but also comfort.

And This Guilt, Please Bleed It Out of Me by @letitrainathousandflames (6.2k, M, GDOV, completed) - another beautiful OWE fic. obi-wan continues to suffer from anakin’s actions (this time, the tuskens).

Only One Allowed to Hurt You by sereq_ieh_dashret (15k, E, GDOV, WIP) - maul is basically like “wait you can’t hurt kenobi, i’m the only one who can do that >:(

anyone else feel a little iffy about the whole “we have a duty thing” he was saying to Ahsoka? maybe I just wasn’t paying enough attention, but it felt a little to me like he meant she had to/was obligated to join the Rebellion. it doesn’t seem very in sync with Bail in general, but if someone has a different interpretation that makes more sense, please share with me.

the only other thing is I’m just confused and a little irritated about the section with the farmers and the Inquisitor. like, when in the timeline exactly did that whole encounter take place? and if they wanted to show a storyline like that, why didn’t they just animate some key moments from the Ahsoka novel? I feel like it sort of gives it more weight in a way to have Ahsoka’s big return to the good fight and the Rebellion set two years after the end of the war, and given how similar the setups are, I have to say I would have much rather had at least some scenes from the book in animation than a whole new separate thing that kind of replaces it.

Anakin has fixed a lot of dejarik boards before.

Well... Mom did all the soldering of the broken circuit boards because she said that the fumes were bad for growing boys, BUT it was his responsibility to take everything apart and carefully label it, test the circuits and mark the ones that Mom needed to fix, and then put it back together again when she was finished. He even tested the projectors and commands to make sure everything was in working order before Watto put it in the shop's inventory to sell.

So... He's mostly fixed a lot of dejarik boards and tested them afterwards, but he's never actually played dejarik before.

He hopes Mr. Kenobi hasn't noticed that Anakin is just making things up as he goes, figuring out how the pieces move by watching the projection stall for a split second every time he tries something that the rules don't allow.

He must have fixed a hundred, a thousand boards since he was old enough to start helping -- and the boards always sold quickly because everyone and their great grandma plays dejarik...

Everyone except Anakin and his mother... he doesn't think any of his friends on Tatooine had played either.

There's something sick growing in his belly as he thinks about it all, tears pricking at his eyes -- but he's pretty sure that Jedi don't cry, and he's a padawan now so he can't cry -- if Mr. Kenobi doesn't ruin everything by telling the Jedi Council to send him back to Tatooine.

Mr. Kenobi hums after Anakin's last move, stroking his beard and appearing to be deep in thought.

Mr. Qui-Gon had explained that Mr. Kenobi wasn't his brother-brother, like Kitster and Kassu who had the same mother, but a 'lineage brother' because the same Jedi Master had trained them both to be Knights.

Anakin thinks his Jedi grandmaster must be very old, to have taught both Mr. Qui-Gon and Mr. Kenobi.

Not that it matters, because apparently Master Dooku left the Jedi after Mr. Kenobi was knighted, so that only left his great-grandmaster Yoda... The green person with big ears on the Council who had thought he was too scared to be a Jedi.

He misses his mom.

Mr. Kenobi's foot taps the base of Anakin's chair, and Anakin realizes that Mr. Kenobi is waiting for him to play, but Anakin was so busy gathering eopie chips in his head that he'd missed Mr. Kenobi making his move.

He can feel the tips of his ears grow pink with embarrassment. Surely real Jedi don't become distracted or miss their moms and of course they all know how to play dejarik --

He reaches to move the big white monster, but Mr. Kenobi purses his lips and hums.

"That's an interesting choice -- I would have used the Grimtash's -- the gray one -- special attack," Mr. Kenobi keeps his eyes on the board.

"...Why?"

Anakin uses his best sabacc face, like he's only interested in Mr. Kenobi's strategy and not desperately trying to figure out how to win a game he doesn't know how to play.

"It's special attack is powerful enough to defeat my Ghhhk, which you've been abusing," Mr. Kenobi points out the dark green creature on his side of the board.

Anakin debates for a moment whether or not to take Mr. Kenobi's advice. If they were on Tatooine, it'd be a given that Mr. Kenobi was trying to trick him -- but they're not on Tatooine and besides he's pretty sure Jedi aren't allowed to lie unless it's really important.

He makes the move that Mr. Kenobi suggests and watches as his piece battles and destroys Mr. Kenobi's.

They continue to play, with Mr. Kenobi occasionally talking about what his strategy would be. He thinks Mr. Kenobi must be a horrible sabacc player, with all his obvious facial tells and the way he literally just tells you what he's going to do.

Maybe that's why Padmé's handmaidens like playing with him every night -- he's such an easy mark they must have taken every single credit he has by now.

Anakin doesn't always do what Mr. Kenobi would do, but he starts feeling more confident about how the game works and most importantly, how to win.

Soon, it's just Anakin's Grimtash against Mr. Kenobi's K'lor'slug (the purple one), and then it's over and...

Anakin won. He won! He didn't even know the rules and he won anyway, AND he beat a Jedi who's probably been playing dejarik since he was in diapers --

"Good game, Anakin." Mr. Kenobi holds his hand out over the board for Anakin to shake. His tone is jovial, like he hasn't just lost, and he's got that same amused glimmer in his eye like he did when Anakin tried bowing to him like a proper Jedi.

The sick feeling is back in his stomach.

"You let me win, didn't you?"

Mr. Kenobi's expression falters for a second, before becoming even faker than before.

"No, I didn't --"

"Jedi aren't supposed to lie!" Anakin jumps out of his seat, his heart pounding in his ears. "Did you think it was funny? It's not my fault that I don't know the rules! Dejarik is a stupid game anyway!"

Mr. Kenobi's face goes unnaturally calm, and Anakin knows now that Mr. Kenobi has a sabacc face that could rival some of the best on Tatooine -- and he hates it. He hates being made into fool by someone who's supposed to be deciding whether Anakin is good enough to even be a Jedi, it's not FAIR!

"What's going on?"

Mr. Qui-Gon appears, coming out of their room, and glaring at Mr. Kenobi like he did something wrong.

"He let me win!"

Anakin tries to put as much weight as he can into his accusation, to convey the seriousness of the situation in a Jedi-like manner, but when he hears himself, he sounds more like Kitster's little brother Kassu whining whenever he lost at a game.

The confused look on Mr. Qui-Gon's face only confirms that he thinks Anakin is acting like a baby.

The anger, humiliation, and homesickness are all boiling away inside of him -- ready to explode at any second. Anakin can't do that here, in front of these Jedi, he's already embarrassed himself enough.

He pushes past Mr. Qui-Gon and goes into their room. He can feel electricity arcing underneath his skin, forcing him to pace the room to burn off some of the energy before he does something un-Jedi-like.

He can hear Mr. Qui-Gon and Mr. Kenobi talking outside, their voices growing louder until he can clearly hear some of what they're saying.

"...won't hold it against him..."

"Well... pretty hypocritical of me... didn't you tell me..."

"Knight Kenobi why can't... in the moment."

Anakin climbs the ladder into his bunk, trying to get away from something he knows that he definitely doesn't want to be hearing. Even the walls back home were thicker than this.

"Tell me... dangerous, they all sense... what changed?"

Anakin pulls his pillow over his head and screams to drown out the noise around him and inside of him.

Let us not undervalue a mighty "Old Person" with enough skill and sass to be a devastating force.

See, my internal argument is...

I have Force-sensitive Clones. Fox and Rex. Fox and Rex. And Clones are already well-trained, right? Well, they are also stubborn. They didn't grow up in the same instructional environment like the Jedi. I could go much further into detail why it takes someone with Dooku's modified teaching methods to get Rex to respond. Tell them they didn't do something right, and they are going to work on getting it right. Don't tell them what they did wrong or right... and their Fett-itude gets activated.

For nearly two years, I've been living with this mental image of Dooku driving Rex crazy. How? Because Rex is doing katas over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and OVER again.

He's an ARC. Mine is an Alpha ARC, as it turns out—sort of—he was raised among them since he was four (8). He's used to doing really darn well pRETTY QUICKLY! Jedi are easily impressed by him. Dooku may have been Sith, but he's... sort of half-reformed?

Anyway.

He isn't impressed.

He looks... bored.

No matter how much Obi-Wan is trying not to flail, tell the good Commander that he did well, he's gotten scolded once for pipping up with a single word. If he wants to watch, he has to shut up. Rex is doing real good! The form is real good, not masterful—obviously. But, for the little time he's begun to be trained? Windu and Plo are pleased with the progress. Wolffe is acting like a cheerleader, and so would Anakin be. Cody is just grumpy because he's lost his favorite brother to the space wizards—in more ways.

Fox is sulking, too, but because he knows that once Dooku is done with Rex—he's going to get the attention. Until then, let Rex get the passive, genuinely UNIMPRESSED, borderline BORDER expression on the old Dark Side's face.

Every time Rex repeats the katas, many peer around the edges at Dooku to see if he'll finally do more than do what he's done...

Each. And. Every. Time.

He doesn't. He might brush some invisible lint off a shoulder. Mostly, though, He just stands there, still like a statue, even makes for Rex to squirm on his feet, before he says, "Again."

It takes a lot to test Rex's patience when it comes to perfecting his form. But, Dooku has it. Good thing because neither Rex nor Fox were responding the way they should have to the others. They just weren't as driven.

Now he's driven. He's driven out of sheer SPITE. Look, once, when he was between seven and eight years old—(14-16)—he got a NOD OF APPROVAL once, ONE TIME, from Jango Fett, and the reluctant fueled him to do it out of spite for the next two years. Probably when he learned the Fett-secret blaster-spin-holster trick Fordo taught him, who learned it from Jango...

Fox is trying to run away—Seventeen has caught him, and is just about ready to hold him up by an ankle. Wolffe is thanking Fett's Frozen Bolts that he didn't get this Force-osik, and Obi-Wan has got Cody held by the collar to keep from launching himself at Dooku like the old "wind-bag" was Grievous.

Rex just huffs, wipes his brow, and starts again.

Baby Boba? Well, he's a teenager now. He's just staring at the chaos.

Torrent is staring in shock. Because... this is very familiar.

Oh, right... Rex did this to them all the time. No feedback. Just... Again, until their heads get twisted up with paranoid delusions of what they could be doing wrong, or what sick and sadistic motivations drive their then-Captain.

For another time, Rex finishes—

The long pause. Someone's holding their breath.

"Again."

The crowd erupts in a groan.

Wolffe offers to get snacks. Fox has started to cry from being held upside. He doesn't WANT TO—he promises he won't steal other people's left-over noodles! Lies, lies, and more lies.

Ahsoka, Rex's other saber trainer, is a little better. At least she smiles! Then she tells him to do it again.

When Ahsoka is heard to say, "Again, Rex," she at least acknowledges that he has a name, and even goes so far as to add, "Please."

Not Dooku. No.

From the Count, it is just a cool, "Again."

Just finished reading the script for Revenge of the Sith. I had read this one before but it’s been, like, years. Will post about it soon :)

A thought crossed my mind and so Imma just jot it down here.

If I look at these screenplays with my screenwriter hat on, rather than the fan hat… these aren't ‘very good’ feature scripts, by conventional standards. They’re ‘okay’ at best.

As a conventional feature script, there’s issues all over Attack of the Clones, for instance. Too much expositional dialogue, too much plot not enough emotion. Again, “show, don’t tell”, always. When we do get character-driven dialogue, it’s phrased in a very formal dialect rather than a more conventional one.

But this is nothing new, right? Like, we’ve seen so many articles and videos criticizing the Prequels online. Myriad are the “let’s rewrite the Prequels” videos… and most of them rewrite the trilogy from the ground up. Some of these even result in stronger scripts (the Belated Media one is really good)... but that's, like, cheating.

Anybody can "fix" a story by just starting over. The real challenge is fixing it in a way that the TV shows and comics I grew up with still stay the same. A proper rewrite would take everything Lucas wanted to do with the prequels and only execute it better.

Now the screenplays I write aren't too shabby (got selected in a few competitions but I've only been doing it for 4-5 years, so I'm clearly no master yet ^^') so sometimes I ask myself:

Could I write a feature script that

1) is classically "better"... (more aligned to screenwriting conventions, aka, a single protagonist who takes up most of the screentime, clear inciting incident happening at page 15, midpoint of the script being a reversal of what happens on page 90, etc).

2) ... while also saying everything Lucas wanted to say? (by keeping every theme and subject, every commentary, every planet, every design and every line that spun-off into a TCW episode)

And the answer is "no".

At some point, I'd need to do away with some of the elements that have come to make the Prequels so iconic.

I mean, take Attack of the Clones, for instance. You're already trying to juggle two plots:

PLOT 1, Anakin and Padmé fall in love. Classic romance. Think Romeo & Juliet.

PLOT 2, Obi-Wan's investigation: noir-style with massive political implications. Think State of Play.

Each of these two plots is a feature film by itself. But then you've got all these subplots, but they're all CRUCIAL to the story of the Prequels. Off the top of my head:

SUBPLOT, the Separatists vs the Republic conflict, the Military Creation Act, Palpatine getting emergency powers: commentary on how a democracy turns into a dictatorship.

SUBPLOT, Anakin and attachment: commentary on how a good person turns into a bad person. Setting up this crucial flaw that'll doom Anakin in the next film. He loses his mother in this film and begins to feel very possessive of Padmé.

SUBPLOT, Obi-Wan & Anakin: former needs to put faith in his apprentice, latter needs to be less arrogant. Arrogance them also "rhymes" with Luke's arc, sets up how Anakin loses his arm and subtextually hints at how Dooku fell to the Dark Side.

SUBPLOT, everything with Count Dooku: quod sum eris, he is what Anakin will become.

SUBPLOT, Padmé being a target for assassination: moral people in positions of power will always be the first to go. If war is brewing, voices encouraging peace will be silenced or overshadowed.

SUBPLOT, the theme of duty: the Jedi are duty-bound to serve the Senate and so they're cornered into either joining the war or watching it ravage the galaxy. Also, Anakin and Padmé's respective duties make their romance forbidden (source of conflict).

SUBPLOT, Yoda crying for Anakin's loss, Mace supporting Anakin. The Jedi trust and approve of Anakin, making his betrayal in the next film harsher.

SUBPLOT, Palpatine's manipulation of Anakin, also laying groundwork for the next film.

As well as showcasing new planets, characters and set-pieces and action sequences that help you (Lucas) revolutionize digital cinema and VFX.

Orienting it all towards a target audience of 6-12 year-olds.

These are complex stories. You can't tell them properly without including all these elements. Like, in The Phantom Menace, you can't have Anakin start out as a 14-18 year-old (as most rewrite videos suggest) because the attachment to his mother wouldn't be as strong, by that point.

And, like, this is probably the very thing that Lucas had to face when writing the Prequels:

You either adapt the tale you're spinning in a conventional feature structure and lose a looot of stuff... or you tell the story you want to tell and you do it right.

And movies have to be concise, the runtime is very limited. You only have 120 minutes to tell your story, give or take. So you can see how these screenwriting conventions quickly become restrictive, especially to an artist like George Lucas.

Would the Prequels have worked better as an 8-episode limited TV show? Probably, yeah! Hell, you can kick many of those deleted scenes right back in (they provide SO much context).

But back in the early 2000s, you wouldn't get that kind of budget for a TV show. TV was considered to be "lesser" than film.

So short of cutting them up and remaking them as a series, there's really no other way to "fix" the Prequels. They're the way they are by design. Anything changes, and you're looking at something that's not quite as iconic, doesn't hold as much subtext.

Whumpril Day 19: Choking/Muffled Subs/"I'm Worried About You."

Fandom: Star Wars the Clone Wars

Summary: Obi-wan and Dooku battle. It doesn't go well and it takes Obi-wan mental health down.

     Obi-wan and Count Dooku's lightsaber met. They were just about evenly matched. Their fight had been going on for quite some time but Dooku was getting impatient. As their lightsabers moved apart the count decided he was done with the game. He reached his unoccupied hand up and force pushed Obi-wan into the wall behind them.

     The Jedi hit the wall. His feet weren't allowed to touch the ground. Invisible pressure closed around his throat. He couldn't breathe. Responding to the feeling, Obi-wan moved his hands to his throat. Even if he knew it wouldn't help he dug at his neck.

    Looking around Kenobi tried to find a way to escape. His vision started to blur and he felt lightheaded. The man's feet kicked as he tried to find the ground. Tears bordered his eyes. He had felt weak before but never quite like this.

    Obi-wan stopped fighting; he no longer searched for the ground and he let his arms fall to his side. He somewhat hoped that Dooku would release him but other than that his mind was mostly worried about his loved ones. He just hoped they would be okay, that this wouldn't hurt them as deeply as he had been hurt when Qui-gon or Satine had died.

    Dooku didn't let go. He held Obi-wan there. Anakin rounded the corner just as the man gave up and for a brief moment he thought that his brother was gone. Angrily, he attacked the politician. This caused Dooku to drop Kenobi.

    Air flower through his lungs once more. It took a moment before Obi-wan could get control of his breathing again.

    Anakin had taken note that his master was still alive and placed himself protectively between him and Dooku. As the two fought Obi-wan collected himself.

    Around six minutes passed and Obi-wan stood to assist his rescuer. He wasn't completely ready but he wasn't sure he ever would be. Facing your own mortality is scary after all.

    The Jedi forced Dooku to retreat. They reconvened with their men and finished the battle. After a Republic win, they headed back to their star cruisers.

    Kenobi walked into his quarters and placed his lightsaber on his bunk. He walked into the refresher that was connected to his room.

    Obi-wan stared at his reflection. He ran his fingers over the scratches on his neck. Something broke in him. It was like everything came down all at once.

    The man walked back out to his bed. He went to sit on it but missed and landed on the floor. Tears fell from his eyes and he started to cry. His breathing sped up and he pulled his knees towards himself.

    Obi-wan tried to stay quiet. The walls weren't exactly thin but he worried someone might hear.

    It felt like he was suffocating all over again. That feeling of being unable to control your breathing. Even if air moved in and out of his lungs it was far too fast. His sobs slightly echoed in the practically empty room; making everything feel surreal.

    Times passed and Obi-wan laid on the floor. He didn't quite have the will to get up yet. There was a knock on the door and for a moment he debated not answering it. "I'll be right there." Obi-wan's voice still came off shaky

     Cody stood on the other side. "Can I come in?" he asked.

    Obi-wan just nodded. Cody walked Obi-wan to his bed and sat them both down. "What's going on?"

    "Oh, nothing."

    "I'm worried about you."

    "You don't have to do that" Obi-wan's voice failed to hide his stress.

    "Then tell me what's going on." Cody had his ways of getting his general to talk to him.

    "It's nothing you should worry about."

    Cody tenderly placed his hand on Obi-wan's lower thigh, "then why are your eyes all red? You can talk to me."

     "It's not" Obi-wan looked into the others eyes. Instead of trying to reassure his commander it was nothing he just went in to hug him.

    He grabbed at Cody's shoulders, fabric filled his fist. His face rested in the others chest.

    His muffled sobs broke the clone's heart. He wasn't sure how long he would be holding Obi-wan but he didn't care. Cody would sit there until his general stopped crying. Then he would wait until he felt better, even if it took all night. Even if it took the next day, or the next, or tell the end of the war, or even his whole life. He would be there.

vader is defeated; his mask is broken and his life support smashed and compromised; the emperor's butcher is on his knees, sneering and raving, and in his raving, making it so easy to justify striking him down. (I paraphrase, yet this is what I hear:) 'I killed Anakin who in your weakness you let live; I am not Anakin and so unto me you may take your revenge'; 'I am a Sith; strike me down as Anakin struck Dooku; if you will not burn, you will not suffocate in weighted darkness as I do, then let us be equals in this way; choose not to be a Jedi for me, choose to kill for me, show me you love me.'

and obi-wan is like, 'I’m sorry for you, I really am, but also you just said you’re not you. and darth vader? don't know him. (let’s talk when you find anakin, maybe.) I believe you are mad and lost but I also don't buy your story, 'darth'. also, attachment is not the jedi way, neither is attacking a defeated opponent, will you never learn that lesson? bye.' it's the bar scene in aotc, except that obi-wan is also crying; it’s 'you just tried to bury me alive, to put me into your place of suffering; here's me leaving you, who buries my brother alive, in that place'. obi-wan could be taking vader to face justice for his crimes; he could make the attempt to deprogram him, to wrench him away from the emperor, to take that power from the empire; these ideas don’t even seem to even occur to him. as for ending vader’s horrible existence, as vader might in fact be read as be begging him to do, he chooses again, as on mustafar, to let it continue. it’s a way to establish him as a jedi, it’s a way to establish that he has a very different notion of expressing love, it’s a way to maintain his power over vader, whom he leaves with the choice to face him as anakin or to be left alone, over and over again. it’s brutal and it’s so simple. it’s --

Much to even our surprise, we have yet another new chapter for Hard Reset! That’s our crack-treated-seriously fic where Ahsoka pops Darth Vader upside the head, giving him amnesia so she’s suddenly dealing with Anakin, who doesn’t recall anything past killing Dooku. Much shenanigans and angst are had by all!

A sample for y’all!

“So what are you doing here?” Padmé finally asks. Obi-Wan somewhat gracefully takes up the lead again, though only after shooting Anakin some kind of glance he can’t read.

“We were going to ask Master Yoda about you, then...I suppose ask if he had any advice about what to do. Or what happened. Anakin has, ironically enough, been suffering a recent bout of amnesia himself.”

She stops and twists to look at him. Anakin would expect surprise, or disbelief – instead it’s just probing, a careful study of him with the Force as well, her eyes going slightly unfocused after a moment. Then she blinks and gapes at him. “You don’t remember.” It’s not a question. She looks like she’s struggling between desperate serenity, crying, or screaming at him. “Any of it. Do you.”

He wishes he had any answer other than the truth. “Nothing’s clear after I killed Dooku. You…looked worried?”

She turns away from him, gripping tight to the work surface in front of her. He can hear her struggling to keep her breathing calm and even, and it makes his skin crawl, like he’s still stuck back in that damned suit. “Oh,” she finally says, and it’s flat, uninformative.

- “is Star Wars the first to do this paragraph thingy?”

- “why’d they even make the clones from Jude?” I respond jango “yeah, jango”

- “oh no, they just decapitated him”

- “he’s got precision” hits obi wan’s ship on accident “oh never mind”

- she got real nervous for r2

- “if something happens to r2 then I’ll be angry”

- “a lot of these robots are smart, if they can think then isn’t it wrong to use them? So many have died and they probably didn’t want to die” she has a point

- “you’d think they would develop anti light saber technology”

- “Do it” (when Anakin is about to decapitate Dooku)

- she did change her mind though about killing Dooku

- “I think the chancellor is evil, I knew he was evil” yeah sure

- “how do they deal with air on the ships? Do they have oxygen tanks?” Valid question honestly

- “is Anakin wearing black mean he’s going to go evil?”

- “if I was evil, I would collect their light sabers too”

- “do they get unlimited light sabers or something? I feel like they throw them around a lot”

- “the people on this planet must be freaking out”

- “how are they sleeping together? Don’t the servants know” I did explain how loyal padme’s handmaidens are super loyal to her

- “aw, she still has the necklace”

- “this is not what I expected”

- “I don’t trust him” (to palpatine)

- you know, on a personal note, I feel like had the Jedi just told Anakin that he would not be on the council then things would’ve went better

- we talked about this and how they approached this wrong and she said she didn’t trust him even more

- “this is becoming too much”

- “he probably just wants padme to call him master”

- “obi wan saw a pregnant padme and didn’t question it? Doesn’t he suspect?”

- “he’s a lot skinnier than I thought” (about grievous)

- “this man has asthma” (again grievous)

- “why can’t the Jedi just kill all of the bad guys?”

- “I like the sounds that thing makes” the yips

- “What’s the point of getting these crystallized things if they drop them all the time?”

- “no!” When Anakin was named darth Vader, she looked at me and back at the screen. The reaction was very much worth it

- “I’m done with Star Wars, this is dumb. It can’t be. No.”

- “Obi is going to be so sad”

- “what’s order 66?”

- “is obi wan dead?”

- “what’s order 66?”

- “why did she fall like that?”

- “is he going to kill all the kids? He won’t, right?”

- “padme you fool, I told you”

- “I knew the clone dudes were evil” don’t worry, we will watch the clones wars after where she will get emotionally attached to them and cry

- “why did the clones follow the order? Were they programmed? We’re they just acting friendly?”

- “he did not kill the padawans” and then she went into how sad that they were hiding and came out because they trusted him

- “what’s the name of the Jedi dude? The one died in the first movie?” I answer “quigon, yeah. He put so much faith in Anakin”

- “you lied to me. Anakin isn’t troubled. He’s bad. No redemption unless he saves yoda or something”

- “padme should’ve known when he killed those people with the women and children, what were they called,” I tell her the tusken raiders “yeah, them.”

- “you know he could, he’s literally killed children before”

- “this is baloney and I don’t like baloney anymore”

- “bruh, he did this for her and he attacked her”

- “I kind of wanted his lightsaber to be red”

- “yoda just waddles in”

- “he saw that coming, he put his hands up. I saw that coming”

*going to be honest, I put my phone down because I had to watch the lightsaber duel between obi wan and Anakin but I’ll write down some details I remember

- commented on how padme was really just left up there

- complimented the visual effects and the choreography for the obi wan vs Anakin duel

- freaked out about yoda a bit and called bail a real homie

- was shocked that there were twins but was weirded out that everyone was just watching her give birth

- laughed when Vader yelled “no” and questioned the chancellors lie

- said that Luke definitely got the short of end of the stick while leia is living the high life

- explained to me how quigon had too much faith

- she was confused about the republic vs separatist politics I explained how basically both sides lost

Overall: she felt extremely betrayed. I honestly can’t wait to show her all the different versions and perspectives of order 66 that Star Wars loves to show

Next one is the clone wars movie
