(you love me, but you’ll never love me as much as you love her)
ellie has been your best friend since you were both 13. throughout high school, the two of you only grew closer. your mother often joked that you were both conjoined at the hip. everywhere ellie was, you were, and vice versa. your crush on ellie started a little after the first year of high school. the brunette has always been really nice to you; even if she was awkward, and didn’t understand very many social cues… ellie was your favorite person in the whole wide world.
your crush on ellie only got worse as the two of you got older. you even found yourself following her after graduation to the university of jackson. now it was your first year of college, and the two of you were still the best of friends. that is, until ellie got a girlfriend. in all honesty, you were a depressed wreck when ellie first started talking to tiffany. she was a blonde with blue eyes, and had a body that could stop a trucker from a mile away. she was perfect in every single way, and it was obvious why ellie liked her. it was also pretty obvious that tiffany hated you. ellie was, of course oblivious to the tension between you and the psych major, but you were pretty sure tiffany only hated you because she knew how you felt about ellie.
but that didn’t discourage you from keeping your friendship with the brunette you’ve come to love so much. you never expected ellie to return your feelings. in fact, that’s the main reason you’ve been so supportive of her relationship with tiffany from the beginning. sure, it made you sad and sometimes you didn’t want to talk to ellie, because all she’d talk about was tiffany… but you still tried really hard to text her and hang out with her. maybe it wasn’t as much as you two used to, but still, you were trying and that’s all that matters, right?
“so are you gonna be at jesse’s party tonight?” your roommate dina inquires curiously, as she folds some of her clothes. she pulls you out of your ellie-induced thoughts, causing you to pry your eyes away from the textbook you hadn’t been paying any attention to. “um, no. i have to study for my english seminar. mr. lydon always calls on me.” you half lie, and dina rolls her eyes playfully. “that’s because you practically know everything already. he’s impressed and probably gonna offer you a position as a student teacher next year.” she admits, and your eyes light up at the thought. you were majoring in english, because it’s always been your dream to be an english teacher or professor.
“you really think he’ll ask me? yara’s super smart and she’s been talking about wanting to be a student teacher since the year started.” you point out, while dina waves dismissively after putting some of her shirts away. “he’s definitely gonna ask you, y/n. you two are always talking about star wars and your weird love for the semi colon.” she taunts, making you blush in a bit of embarrassment. “it’s just… it’s a pause without a coma or period— never mind, you wouldn’t understand. science geek.” you tease your roommate back, causing her to gasp in mock offense as she reaches for a pair of folded socks, tossing them right at your face.
you giggle, and as your laughter dies down, dina flashes you a look. “you should really come tonight though. ellie’s gonna be there.” she continues to pick on you, but you can hear the slight seriousness in her tone. you groan, “which means tiffany is also gonna be there.” you counterpoint. you say the blonde’s name as if it’s venomous, and dina shakes her head, the annoyance on her face clear as water. “ugh, i hate her. i swear, if she tries to psycho analyze me because i had a bad day one more time, i’m going to punch her and ruin that nose job her daddy paid for.” dina states in a tone too serious to be a joke, and you flash her a look of surprise before you both burst into a fit of laughter.
“still, you should go with me tonight. word on the street is ellie and her have been arguing a lot lately.” dina confesses, and this seems to spike your interest. you quirk a brow in your roommates direction, ellie hasn’t told you anything about her and tiffany fighting. then again, you’ve barely been texting ellie about anything other than plans for group hangouts or memes. “what are they fighting about?” you ask, unable to hide the fact that you’re suddenly intrigued. dina shrugs, “i don’t know, but it seems pretty bad. i heard tiffany yelling the other day. like at the top of her lungs yelling. i think the dorm rep had to get involved.” she explains, and your eyes widen a bit.
why didn’t ellie tell me anything?
“look, we can go with our matching flare jeans!” dina holds up the pair of black jeans she had just washed; they were your favorite pair because they had hearts on them. you shake your head, offering her a small smile. “fine. i’ll go; but if i get anything less than a eighty on tomorrow’s assignment, i’m blaming you.” you warn her playfully, and the grin on dina’s face makes your smile widen. you close the book you had long forgotten about, and get up; deciding to pick out your outfit for tonight. you settle on the flare jeans and a black furry sweater that’s too small to even keep you warm. your hair is still a bit damp from your shower earlier, but you let down both of your braids anyways; allowing the semi-curly hair to fall down. after putting on some mascara and lipgloss, you aimlessly scroll through tiktok while you wait for dina to finish getting ready.
by the time the raven haired girl is finished, jesse is texting the group chat, letting you both know the kegs are full and ready. apparently ellie was supplying the weed, and one of jesse’s friends was bringing bottles of liquor along with some packs of beer. “you should text ellie and tell her you’re gonna come.” dina suggests, as you both make your way out of your dorm hall, stepping out into the horrid cold. “so… you and jesse…” you trail off, a tiny smirk etched onto your lips. you can see dina blushing under one of the lampposts, causing you to chuckle. “jeez, d, you really like this guy huh?” you question and her blush deepens; her cheeks turning crimson red.
“he’s sweet… i know we just met earlier this year, but i feel like i really know him. you know? like i know his heart.” dina explains, and you smile brightly. “wow, i never thought i’d hear you talking about someone in such a sappy way.” you poke fun at her, but your friend can hear the softness in your voice and see the fondness in your eyes. dina grins, “yeah, well, who knows, he might get lucky tonight.” she half jokes and you gasp, throwing your head back while releasing a howling laugh.
when you get to the frat house, there’s already hoard of people there. the music is loud, but not too loud, so for that you’re sort of grateful. jesse finds you both a minute after you two walk in; he has a large smile on his face and his varsity jacket hanging off his back. “hello ladies.” he says, his smile more directed to dina. “hey jesse, is ellie here yet?” you ask curiously, trying to sound nonchalant, but he can see right through you. he nods, “yup! she’s in the back rolling a few j’s. you can head back there and say hi if you want. she’s alone.” he clarifies, and you smile gratefully. “thanks! i’ll see you guys in a minute. save me a dance, party girl.” you tell dina, and she nods. “you better come find me to dance!” she warns, and you giggle as you begin to make your way to the back of the frat house.
the only bedroom downstairs is usually used for seven minutes in heaven, or for movie nights. when you push your way into the bedroom the room is full of smoke, and you spot ellie sitting on the bed. she’s wearing a buttoned up flannel shirt, and those old faded jeans that you love on her. she’s staring out of the closed window, seemingly deep in thought; her short brown hair barely reaches the nape of her neck, and you can’t help but stare for a minute as you lean against the doorframe. she takes another drag of the joint, inhaling the smoke and keeping it in her throat before releasing it. “hey there.” you pull her out of her thoughts, causing her to snap her head in your direction.
ellie’s eyes change as soon as they land on you. her face expression goes soft. “hey. what are you doing here?” she questions, her voice light but clearly confused. “dina convinced me to come.” you explain shortly as you walk in, inching closer to ellie. you don’t seem to notice the way those pale green eyes seem to roam up and down your body as you stand in front of her. she holds the joint out, offering you some. ellie knows you love to smoke, you’re not a drinker, but you’ve always been a smoker. growing up, you were the only one who was always down to get high with ellie. it was, shamefully her favorite thing. getting high alone or with anyone else wasn’t the same for her.
you gladly take it, placing the joint between your lips before fixing your sweater, and taking the lit joint out of your mouth. you hold the smoke while you hand it back to ellie, offering her a cute little smile that makes something in her chest clench. you cough a little after exhaling the smoke, and it makes her chuckle. “good?” she asks, and you nod, “what strain as that?” you wonder out loud, “cherry chem.” she answers vaguely, placing the joint between her own lips as she reaches into her backpack, retrieving a little wooden box. you watch inquisitively as she opens the box and reveals a bunch of freshly rolled joints.
“here.” she says as she pulls out five and hands them to you. you shake your head, “no, it’s okay—“ she cuts you off, “you don’t wanna get too drunk tonight, do you, princess?” she asks, the old nickname causing you to blush under her droopy, hooded eyes. you reluctantly accept them, knowing ellie is right. you always get too drunk when you don’t smoke in order to level yourself out. “thanks els.” you thank her with that god damn smile on your face, and ellie feels as if the sun is shining on her face. you make her feel so warm.
“sit down.” she says, handing you the nearly finished joint, as she pats the empty space right beside her. you scrunch your nose in disgust, “no way, i saw joan sanders come in here with tommy last month. i know what happens on this bed.” you says in a prissy tone that causes ellie to laugh. “such a priss.” she mutters as she pulls you by your hips and causes you to fall onto the bed right next to her. you gasp, pushing her arm roughly. “ellie!” you squeal in disgust, but you get a whiff of her cologne that causes your head to go fuzzy. your face is hot, and ellie is smirking at you in a way that causes the butterflies in your belly to repopulate.
“it’s almost finished.” you scowl, and ellie shrugs as she snatches the joint out of your hands, tossing it into the ashtray. “i’ll light another one. unless you got somewhere to be.” she raises a brow, and you shake your head, flashing her a puzzled look. “aren’t you supposed to be hanging out with tiffany tonight? you guys are always at every party together.” you point out, and you notice the way ellie tenses at the sound of her girlfriends name. her demeanor shifts as she reaches for another joint, and lights it.
“she’s with her friends tonight. you know ashley and miley?” she asks with clear disdain on her face. you nod, “i know of them. they’re on the cheer team right?” you respond with a question, and she merely nods. “yeah. she’s with them i think.” ellie mutters, and you go quiet for a minute. “dina told me you guys have been fighting lately...” you start, and ellie rolls her eyes. “… why didn’t you tell me anything?” you ask her, and she shrugs. “didn’t wanna bother you with my dumb ass relationship problems.” she mumbles, as she hands you the joint.
you throw her a look of surprise, “your problem are not dumb, ellie.” you say sternly, and she scoffs. “they are. she’s… she’s being stupid.” she murmurs, and you furrow your brows. you’ve never heard ellie speak negatively about tiffany before. if anything, whenever she’d bring the blonde up she’d have this dorky grin on her face. now she looks exhausted. “what happened?” you ask carefully, and ellie freezes. you’ve known each other for years and ellie tells you everything; yet she doesn’t want to tell you about the this. the more you think about it, the more you realize ellie’s never told you anything about her and tiffany fighting. not even once.
she seems to have put a wall up for the first time without you even noticing. have you really been pulling away that much, that you didn’t even notice something’s been going on with her? in your defense, you were only pulling away from her to protect your heart. you knew ellie could never want you the way you want her, and whenever you saw her with tiffany, it hurt.
she shakes her head refusing to tell you. “it’s nothing.”
your brows knit together, she’s never shut you out about anything. ellie’s even told you all of the embarrassing things about herself; she was an open book with no filter when it came to you… but right now it seemed like she didn’t want to tell you what the arguments between her and tiffany are about. the silence in the room is thick, and you can hear the muffled music coming from behind the door. you open your mouth to speak, but jesse rushes into the room, “hey ellie, dani wants to know if she can buy a few joints off you.” the dark haired boy states causing ellie to get up. “yeah, sure. come on, wanna get a drink?” ellie asks you. you nod, standing up and following the brunette and jesse out of the room.
there’s even more people here than there was when you first arrived, and as you check your phone, you realize you were with ellie for nearly thirty minutes. ellie reaches for your hand so she doesn’t lose you in the crowd, and you gladly take it. your stomach flips as soon as your skin meets hers, and she leads you over to the kitchen. jesse walks up to dani with you and ellie not far behind, and your eyes wander around the crowded area as ellie begins to make a deal with the basket ball player. ellie squeezes your hand when she’s done, and the smile she flashes you makes your knees weak.
“whatcha’ want to drink?” she asks you with that cute raspy voice that drives you crazy. “just a cranberry vodka, if you guys have any cranberry juice.” ellie’s sure you don’t mean to look up at her with those sexy lidded eyes, but you do and she finds her mouth going dry. “coming right up.” she winks at you, and nearly grimaces at how awkward she is. you giggle while she makes your drinks, the buzz from ellie’s weed barely now hitting you. you’re partially reminded of why you’ve been trying not to smoke; because whenever you’re high, ellie is all you can think about. it makes you sad knowing she’s probably thinking about making up with her girlfriend right now.
ellie hands you your drink first, before making her own. you take a sip, grimacing at the strong taste of alcohol, “ellie!” the girly voice nearly causes you to wince as tiffany bounces up to the brunette; wrapping her arms around the back of ellie’s neck. you don’t see the way ellie forces a smile because your eyes are now glued to the red drink in your cup. “hey babe.” ellie greets her girlfriend, and the term of endearment causes a pang of pain to linger in your chest. you take a swig of your drink, and ellie looks over at you apologetically. you flash her a small, reassuring smile yet she can see it isn’t your usual smile.
ellie wants to say something to you, but before she can, dani makes her way back to you both. “uh, hey y/n.” the basketball player greets you, and you gratefully find an excuse to pry your gaze off of ellie and tiffany. “hey dani. how did you do on mr. lyndon’s quiz yesterday?” you ask her, and ellie tries not frown as she notices the way the taller girls eyes wander over your body. “i did terrible! i can’t believe midterms are next week. i’m not ready.” the tall girl admits and amusement glints in your eyes as you look up at her. “i like your necklace, by the way.” she adds, complimenting the silver necklace dangling off your collar bone. you smile brightly, your fingers going to play with the necklace your mother gave you before you left to college. you and your sisters all have the same one.
“thanks. my mom got it for me when i turned eighteen. i like your jacket.” you pull on the ends of her varsity jacket, batting your eyes up at her, and tiffany frowns as you don’t notice that ellie’s hard gaze is fixated on you. tiffany definitely notices, and it causes her to scowl. “wanna go smoke?” dani asks, pulling a joint out of her pocket. you grin, but ellie intervenes. “i already smoked her out.” the brunette clarifies, locking eyes with the jock and flashing her a warning look that makes you frown. dani looks at you, ignoring ellie and smirking right at you. “wanna go for round two, princess?” she asks, and something in ellie’s stomach twists uncomfortably at the sound of dani calling you “princess”.
“sure. i’m always down to smoke.” you say, and you flash ellie a look that she doesn’t recognize before you wrap yourself around the jocks arm. ellie keeps her eyes on you as you disappear out of the kitchen with dani, “looks like dani is getting lucky tonight.” tiffany declares, pulling ellie out of her thoughts. if ellie weren’t so preoccupied with thinking about you and dani, she would’ve found that comment strange. but ellie is high and she isn’t thinking about anything other than you giving those eyes to dani walsh.
ellie’s face twists at the mere thought of you hooking up with the raven haired girl tonight. ellie can’t come up with a single reason why she feels so upset about it; you’re single after all, and dani is undoubtedly every girls type. she shakes her head, “no. y/n’s not that kind of girl.” ellie says more to herself than to her girlfriend. tiffany scoffs, “did you not see what i saw? your friend is totally into her.” tiffany says as she takes ellie’s cup and takes a swig. she makes a face, “ugh. cranberry? seriously, ellie? you know i hate cranberry.” she mutters in disgusts, and ellie flashes her a sheepish smile.
“sorry, it was y/n’s drink choice.” the brunette replies, and tiffany rolls her eyes. “what?” ellie asks, detecting the clear annoyance that came from her saying your name. “nothing.” tiffany mutters and ellie rolls her eyes, a wave of frustration washing over her. “seriously, what’s wrong? you look pissed.” ellie points out, and the shorter girl flashes her a sardonic expression. “oh, now you noticed? you’ve been so preoccupied with y/n tonight, you haven’t even talked to me!” she snaps, and ellie’s eyes widen. “what!? you’re the one who ditched me as soon as we got here to hang out with your friends! what do you want me to do? follow you around like a puppy all night?” ellie begins to raise her voice, losing her cool.
“no i don’t want that! i want you to care about me more than you care about y/n!” she shouts, and ellie shakes her head in bewilderment. “what the fuck is your problem with her?! y/n’s my best friend, and i love her! i love you too, but fuck, tiffany!” ellie is clearly losing all the cool inside of her body, if she was angry before she’s even angrier now. “but what?” the blonde challenges, crossing her arms and flashing ellie a stern look. ellie goes quiet, “say it.” tiffany adds demandingly, and ellie scoffs, “say what?” she mumbles, playing dumb. “what you’ve always known but never had the balls to admit. you love me, but you’ll never love me as much as you love her.” tiffany snaps, and ellie can only stare at her with inscrutable features etched onto her face.
the silence is telling, and it seems to give tiffany the only answer she needs. “i’m done coming second in this relationship, ellie. you have to tell me right now… do you love me more or her?” tiffany’s voice is harsh and up for no debates. ellie lets out a breathless chuckle, more so because she’s surprised at the absurd question. “are you serious?” she questions, her voice laced with pure disbelief. tiffany is staring at her as if ellie is the crazy one, and it just now hits ellie that you’ve been alone with dani for over fifteen minutes.
“i don’t have time for your shit tonight, dani. y/n’s cross faded and i’m not gonna let her go home with some sleaze from the basketball team, all because you’re jealous.” she hisses, as she turns around to walk away, but tiffany stops her by reaching out and grabbing her arm. ellie spins and around to face her girlfriend; her patience wearing thin. “i’m jealous!? ellie, look at you! you’re going crazy because y/n might hook up with someone else!” she exasperatedly snaps, and the words seem to knock some sense into ellie. she glances down at her shoes, a bit ashamed; “look me in the eye and tell me right now that you’re not in love with her.” the shorter girl demands. ellie’s eyes lock with tiffany’s piercing blue eyes, and all she can think about is you.
you and your smile. you and your laugh. the way you say her name, and how you remember everything she says. the tiny scar on your back nobody else knows about. the way your eyes light up when you’re excited…
ellie wants to say no. she wants to be a good girlfriend and assure tiffany that she’s in love with her and only her… but as she thinks about your soft eyes being directed at some jock looking to get “lucky”, ellie knows she can’t say it. tiffany lets out a scoff, shaking her head before loosening her grip on ellie’s wrist. “you can’t even say it! you can’t even look at me and lie about it!” tiffany pushes her finger into ellie’s chest, and ellie feels an overwhelming sense of guilt as she begins to calm down. her thoughts seem to rationalize but she knows she’s already fucked up. “tiff…” she trails off, and the cheerleader shakes her head, tears pooling in her baby blue eyes.
“just go get her before she leaves with dani.” tiffany sounds defeated, and a part of ellie is telling her to stay and fix things with tiffany, but there’s a loud voice in her head telling her to go and make sure you haven’t left with that other girl. ellie doesn’t say anything else as she walks out of the kitchen, leaving dani alone. she’s certain whatever was left of the relationship is now over, but she can’t seem to care. you’re the only thing on her mind as her gaze flitters all over the room in search for you. her eyes zero in on dina who is dancing with someone ellie barely knows; the brunette doesn’t think twice before interrupting.
“have you seen y/n? she’s with dani and she’s pretty faded. i wanna make sure she’s okay.” ellie rushes the words out, sounding like a nervous wreck. dina stops dancing for a moment, raising a brow, “uh, i just talked to y/n like four minutes ago, she seemed fine. she said her and dani were gonna smoke and maybe walk back to her dorm.” dina winks insinuatingly, and ellie’s heart falls into the pit of her stomach.
“shit… did they leave through the front or back?” ellie sounds apprehensive, and it causes a wave of confusion to wash over the raven haired girl. “the front i think… wait why does it matter?” dina questions, and ellie shakes her head. “because all dani wants to do is get in y/n’s pants.” ellie hisses, and dina raises her brows in slight shock at the sudden outburst. she watches ellie rush off, and before she can think about chasing after her best friend, jesse swoops in and pushes past the guy dina had been dancing with. “mind if i cut in?” jesse asks hopefully, and dina nods happily, quickly forgetting about you and ellie.
ellie goes out the front door of the frat house, and her eyes flicker around in search for you. when her eyes land on you, her stomach knots up as she sees you’re now wearing dani’s jacket and saying something that ellie can’t make out. her eyes widen and her mind races, as you two begin walking in the direction of the dorm rooms. ellie’s heart nearly stops beating, and it’s like her body has a mind of its own as she begins to rush over in your direction. “y/n wait!” she calls out and you stop in your tracks, spinning around at the sound of your best friends voice.
“ellie?” you sound confused; whenever her and tiffany get together during a party like this, you almost never see her till the next day. “is everything okay?” you ask as she stalks up to you. she has this unrecognizable look etched onto her face, “i just… i needed to talk to you—“ ellie cuts herself off when she sees the smile that was on your face drop. “is it tiffany? did you guys fight again?” you ask, clearly concerned. dani looks at you, then ellie, “i can give you two a minute of you want.” she tells you, and you offer her a grateful smile. “i’ll be right there.” you promise, and ellie hates how soft your gaze is when it’s directed at the jock.
dani offers you an annoyingly charming smile before walking a few feet away from you and ellie. “what’s wrong? what happened with tiffany?” you you ask her, and ellie shakes her head. “since when is dani your type?” she completely ignores your question, going straight for what’s been bugging her all night. you look taken back by the disdain in her voice, causing you to let out a breathless chuckle. “how is she not my type? she’s cute, and nice…” you trail off, and ellie blows a raspberry with her mouth. “so that’s all it takes for you to hookup with someone?” she practically interrogates you, causing you to frown.
“excuse me?” you respond, the offense in your tone clear as day. “what’s your problem? just because we’re hitting it off and i’m going to let her walk me back to my dorm, doesn’t mean i’m going to let her screw me, ellie!” you hiss, trying to keep your voice down in order for dani not to hear. the brunette scoffs, “yeah, sure, did you see the way you were looking at her? plus you’re wearing her fucking jacket, and she’s been smoking you out… she thinks she’s getting lucky tonight.” ellie sounds angrier than you’ve ever heard, and you can’t for the life of you figure out why. “it doesn’t matter what she thinks, ellie. she’s not getting lucky tonight unless i say so!” you snap.
“besides, why do you even care so much about what i do with dani!? shouldn’t you be up tiffany’s ass like you always are?!” you know you sound much harsher than you ever do, which is why ellie suddenly has this kicked dog-like expression on her face. “i-i don’t care! i just don’t think it’s cool how she started preying on you and trying to get you all high. she’s a sleaze!” ellie argues, and you roll your eyes. “yeah, well, that’s up for me to decide. i’ll see you tomorrow, ellie. when we’re both sober.” your voice is lower than before, and you flash her one last look before turning around and making your way over to dani.
ellie pathetically watches as you and dani begin to leave together, and her heart plummets right into her stomach. tiffany’s words from earlier are ringing in her head; “you love me, but you’ll never love me as much as you love her.” ellie stupidly realizes tiffany was right. she loves you more than she’s ever loved anyone… yet as she watches dani entwine her hand with yours before you both disappear in the direction of the dormitory, she realizes you aren’t hers to love. and you certainly aren’t hers to lose.
a/n(PLEASE READ): here’s a one-shot i wrote earlier this month, i just finished the next part of “i’m right over here, why can’t you see me”. it should be posted by christmas, and yes i will be tagging everyone who commented on it 🖤 - vamp

ceo! ellie - 3
what if a broke uni student met the ceo of one of the most impactful companies right now? without her even knowing?
lowercase is intentional
read part 1 aaaand part 2 right here ! xx
Tumblr media
"good to see you, ellie."
"hey dina."
ellie lightly said, giving her lawyer a hug. she in fact was relived to see the silghtly older woman sitting in her office chair, smiling ever so lightly.
"what's the news?"
the ceo asked, lighting herself a cigarette before loosening the hair tie that hold her bun together. she looked at the slightly older woman with confused eyes.
"good or bad news first?"
"good i guess?"
she sat down besides dina to have a look at the lawyers screen, like she would understand all the paragraphs and lawyer language she had all over her desktop.
it‘s been a while since ellie and dina had so much to discuss. when ellie became ceo, they would talk every day, also about non business topics. sometimes they both wonder how they grew apart like this.
"good news is, we will not get sued!"
dina exclaimed, clapping her hands slightly. she threw an encouraging smile at ellie.
"the client is mad, however.. they have a different way for you to make up for it. so the bad news is-"
"let me guess, our yearly charity event should be in honor to them instead of joel?“
the blackhaired woman raised an eyebrow.
"i mean, yeah kinda. they want to be more represented.“
ellie got up from her seat and walked around the office. the smoke of her cigarette hugging her face every time she blew it out.
„did i ever mention how i despise abby sometimes?“
„like every other day.“
dina just laughed it off, she knew how much of an temper ellie could have - and over the years it got just worse.
„no like, seriously. ever since joel died in that car crash i have to deal with her bullshit and i can‘t do anything because they are the biggest client we have!“
and here it goes. ellie threw her cigarette in the ashtray before slumping on her office chair again.
joels death resulted in her taking his place - being the ceo of miller enterprises. and as much as she loved the money and the big cars and the responsibility, she also hated it. none of this is her‘s, it‘s joels. he did all the work, she just had to be next in line.
he had adopted her years after his daughter has passed away due to an medical condition. to say the least, ellie was a rough child and teen. she was loud, sarcastic and had her own will. of course she would listen to joel, after all he wad the only parental figure she had ever have.
„it‘s almost five years now.“
she mumbled, looking at her desk.
ellie hated christmas season and winter. she hated the snow and the beautiful lights. she hated it because it reminded her of him. of the call from dina, the hours in the hospital, the beeping sound of the machine that so desperately tried to keep him alive.
„i know.“
dina added, leaning against ellie’s table. she gave her a encouraging smile.
„how about we start the planning tomorrow? go home and have a good nights rest.“
and so ellie left the office with a small goodbye to dina and went back to her car. she sat down in the drivers seat. as much she loved her car, she didn’t want to drive.
tears slowly build up in her eyes, but she quickly swallowed it when she saw an unfamiliar book on the passenger seat. a book about.. the human psyche ?
you must have forgotten it when ellie dropped you off at home.
„damn it.“
she said under her breath and whipped out her phone, calling your number immediately. and to her surprise you picked up very fast.
„hey ellie! are you okay ?“
your voice was so gentle, ellie was about to die from it’s sweetness.
„hey dear. yeah don’t worry. uh- you forgot your book in my car. need me to drop it off ?“
there was some noise on the background, sounding like you fumbling around in your bag to find it.
„that would be great, ellie. i‘ll make up for it.“
she smiled, starting her engine and looking up your adress from her recent routes.
„i will be there in 20! see ya, ______!“
and off she went, excitement now building up.
.❀。• *₊°。 ❀°。
„hey, thank you so much.“
you smiled, waiting on your doorstep, still in the same hoodie, but with pyjamas pants below now.
„no worries.”
“are you free? i can cook you some dinner. you know, to make up for you having to drive here again?“
now ellie smiled but shook her head.
„no, it‘s fine. don‘t worry.“
„ellie, c‘mon. let me do something for you as well!“
and how could she say no to some with a pretty face like yours?
so she agreed, and you lead her up the stairs to your apartment. it was small but lovely and well decorated. scented candles burned in the hallway and the living room was dimly lit with a lap and the led strips behind your running tv.
„it‘s not much but it‘s affordable - for an uni student at least.“
you smiled before going to your kitchen counted which was connected to your living room.
„what do you mean? it‘s pretty!“
ellie eyes the nerdy figurines on your shelves and the pictures on your walls while you grabbed two wine glasses from your shelf.
„are you fine with a cheap rose?“
you asked her as you opened your fridge. ellie looked at you and just felt all the weight of her work falling off her shoulders. she felt.. normal. like you. oh, how she wished to be an uni student, living her best life in an small apartment instead of leading people and having responsibilities beyond imagination.
of course, she did not have to worry about bills or anything. but money and power doesn’t buy happiness. this does.
„absolutely!“
she sat down on one of your kitchen chairs and watched you pour in the wine with a smile.
„thank you dear.“
she said so softly your knees got weak. and you smiled, letting your glass softly hit hers before taking a sip, not breaking eye contact.
„so, i can offer you: noodles with green pesto, noodles with red pesto, or i can try my luck with a mushroom risotto. additionally, i can also make a side salad.“
you smiled, leaning against the kitchen counter. ellie hadn’t felt this carelessness and even happiness in a while. after all, she never had this.
„risotto sounds amazing.“
she smiled, watching you sigh in despair.
„of course you choose the hardest dish. will not guarantee that it will be good!“
you reached for a pan and put out all ingredients; mushrooms that would have to leave your fridge soon anyways, risotto rice, onion and garlic. the simplicity as so beautiful to ellie.
„let me help.“
and so she cut the mushrooms and washed the rice while you took care of the onions and garlic. the two of you laughed and made fun of each other’s cutting skills while emptying your wine glasses and watching the risotto take form.
„that‘d actually pretty bomb!“
you exclaimed while taking the first bite, already half way down on the second wine glass.
„ellie, we are a great team in the kitchen!“
ellie smiled, agreeing with you.
„like hell, we are!“
you spend your dinner laughing and talking about all sorts of things. friends, memories, drunk accidents that were embarrassing. it felt so light to finally not have business talks with people she couldn’t care less about.
after washing the dishes, and pouring a third glass of wine, you took the conversation to your small but comfortable couch.
and it got late, waaaay too late. and the snow kept falling, causing the streets to be white.
„you shouldn’t be driving home tonight.“
you said, looking at the streets while ellie smoked a cigarette on your balcony.
„nah, i will be fine. i don’t want to take up your space.“
„no ellie, i mean it. we drank, it‘s snowy. it would be better for you to sleep here.“
after a while of convincing, she finally agreed, snapping her cigarette off your balcony.
„and you get to spend more time with me. feel honoured!“
you joked, not knowing that it was exactly what she wanted. to spend more time with you, in this carefree environment. where she can be herself, where she can be just ellie and doesn‘t have to be ellie williams - ceo of miller enterprises.
after finishing the last glass of wine, you decided to call it a night. you gave ellie a hoodie from your closet and a pair of pyjama pants before brushing your teeth in the bathroom and doing your daily skincare. when you returned, you laughed a little. she looked so cute in your huge uni hoodie and the fluffy pj pants.
„why are you laughing?!“
„im just used to seeing you in business clothing. but this is adorable!“
she rolled her eyes and took the spare toothbrush you held in her direction.
„fuck off !“
one more laughter left your throat before you prepared the bed for two. luckily it was big enough. although your couch was comfortable, it was small and most likely would break either your or ellies back when sleeping a night on it.
so you shared a bed. after all, thats nothing to worry about, right?
both of you kind of awkward tugged in before facing each other. the wine did make all of this less awkward. once again you noticed how pretty ellie was. the freckles and little eyebrow scar.. her long lashes that made her green eyes even prettier, her auburn hair that hugger her face perfectly.. she was perfect.
and she thought the same about you. her hand reached out to your face and tugged a piece of your hair behind your ear. oh how she wanted to kiss you - yet she didn’t, not knowing you wanted it too.
“good night, ellie.”
“night, ______.”

warnings: major injury (concussion, mention of blood), angry!hayley, mancity!hayley
a/n: no hate to chelsea or its players, it’s just for the fic
------
chelsea vs manchester city.
the two strongest sides in the super league.
all the passion and power both teams had was coming to a head today, in the cup final.
to say i was nervous was an understatement, it wasn’t my first major game with the club but i got the jitters before every important fixture.
gareth had published the starting lineup yesterday at training, which i’d immediately looked over and noted that he’d put me in first. starting at centre back, lucky number eight.
when we arrived at the stadium, there was people all around in the stands. you could hear the crowd, not yelling, but the sheer amount of them made all the talking reverberate and was heard from the changing rooms.
eventually, we all ran out to start warm up, spending time running basic drills, gareth shouting instructions here and there, psyching ourselves up to play in our biggest game yet.
you could hear over the loudspeakers throughout the stadium, they announced each player one by one, as we each came up on the big screen. when we were called back into the tunnel, hayley came up next to me, bumping my shoulder with a grin.
“you excited?”
“yea, you could say that. nerves are buzzing in my stomach though.”
her laugh was light and sweet, her eyes sparkling with humour.
“you’ll do great. best centre back we’ve got.”
i could feel the blush spread on my cheeks. it was then that gareth herded us all in the change room, wanting to give us a pre match pep talk.
“go out there and crush them, girls. we got this.”
with one last cheer, we all walked out, the starting eleven lining up behind steph houghton, the experienced defender leading us out.
when we first kicked off it wasn’t an exciting start.
i didn’t get much ball time within the first ten minutes, kiera and georgia kept the ball up in the middle, occasionally passing back to defense who promptly kicked it back up.
chelsea’s first break came in the 25’ minute with sam kerr. she was lightning fast and had the ability to head in goals from anywhere.
lauren james had given her an amazing pass from the mid, and kerr was bolting for the ball down the left wing. i knew that jen was meant to be there, but she was too far up the field to make it back and still defend.
that’s where i came in, sliding along the grass to kick the ball away from sam’s foot at the last moment. it was a brilliant save, if i did say so myself, and ellie in goal was punching the air at my moves.
finally, we broke the stalemate, kiera landed an unexpected but amazing shot from outside the box. it was 1-0 to man city.
the whistle blew for half time shortly after and i dragged myself down the tunnel. chelsea was definitely making us work for it.
a fifteen minute break only seemed like five when we had to walk back out there. gareth had subbed hayley onto the field to play in striker, hoping we had another lucky break.
quite the opposite happened, however.
chelsea had the ball up our end, before it was tackled away; they had a corner kick. guro took that shot, and props to her because it curved beautifully. i had leapt up to header the ball away, but at the same time, lauren james was there.
her body had smashed into mine, knocking me back. however, it wasn’t the crash itself that had caused damage. when i had fallen back i was too close to the goal and my head had been hit on the metal post.
i heard the crack, and an audible gasp, although i couldn’t determine who that came from. a wave of pain consumed my body, from my head down. the first thing i did was reach a hand up to my head. when my fingers pulled away, the tips were covered in blood.
my blood.
i could barely make out what was happening around me, it was a fight to keep my eyes open and my ears were ringing, but what i did see was hayley going toe-to-toe with lauren james.
the medics had reached us then, but for me it was already too late, i closed my eyes and let my vision go black.
hayley was almost screaming in lauren’s face, this was her fault, she pushed me into the goal post and now i was unconscious. our teammates had to physically restrain her before things got out of hand. the ref handed lauren a yellow card for her dangerous play and hayley got a warning for her words.
i was stretchered off the field and taken in ambulance to the nearest hospital before the girls could restart their game.
when i woke up, the first thing i noticed was the white room. everywhere i looked there was white. then i saw hayley sitting next to me. i didn’t know how long she’d been there, but she was currently asleep in the chair so my guess was long enough.
hayley had always been a light sleeper, so when i moved my hand, it was no surprise that she woke up immediately.
“you’re awake.”
she stood up and called for the nurse. a younger woman walked into the room with a clipboard and some paperwork.
“yn yln?”
“yea-a.”
my voice was all croaky from not having spoken in a while.
“how are you feeling? took quite the fall on the pitch today.”
i didn’t have a clue what she was talking about so i just answered the question.
“my head hurts a bit. i don’t remember anything happening. what happened?”
hayley was the first to speak up this time, recounting what had happened on the pitch earlier.
“your head was whacked against the goal post.”
turns out i’d split my head open, even if it was only a little bit, and gotten a concussion.
slowly i took in everything that had happened within the last couple of hours. i didn’t say anything just say in silence trying to process things.
the nurse ended up leaving after a bit, telling me i was free to go, as long as i had someone that could supervise me for a couple of days. that left me and hayley in the room alone again.
“i was so worried that you wouldn’t remember me.”
i don’t think she expected me to answer, or even hear what she said in the first place, but i knew.
“i wouldn’t forget you, ribbons. i’d never forget you.”

You woke up alone.
When you reached over on Ellie’s side and felt nothing but a folded pillow, your eyes shot open. You ignored the pounding of your head and peered over at Ellie’s bedside alarm clock. It was almost noon, and you were starving.
You instantly sat up when you heard Ellie’s laughter coming from the living room alongside a high-pitched voice rambling about last night. You threw the hot blankets off your sweaty form and dressed quickly, tossing your shredded stockings in Ellie’s small garbage.
You pried Ellie’s door open and made your way into the packed living room, the soccer boys stretching and putting in eye drops while Niah snored on the couch. Ellie was standing by the open front door, her body leaning against the frame as she nodded and spoke to… the same girl from last night!
“El, I literally couldn’t fucking move! I thought I was gonna fuckin’ die if I did anything!”
Ellie shook her head with a bright smile, waving two candy-bars in her hand, “That’s fucking crazy, damn. Don’t try that shit with these, you’ll be off your ass. Eat half a fucking square and see how you feel.”
“I will,” the girl took her bars and handed Ellie a stack of bills, “Trip with me after finals?”
Your heart stuttered in your chest at her suggestive tone, and it shattered when Ellie reciprocated.
Her head tilted and her tone quieted, “You can handle all that at once?”
“All what?” The girl eased closer into Ellie’s space, and one of the soccer players’ dog whistled. Ellie leaned down to whisper into the girl’s ear, and she huffed and pushed her away playfully. She departed with a flirty bye, El, and Ellie returned it just as lowly. You should’ve stayed asleep.
Ellie shut the door softly and shoved her bills into her sports bra, and you fled to her room before she could see you. You shut the door softly and pressed your ear up against the white wood.
One of the soccer players crossed his arms over his chest, impressed, “Fuuuck, dude, how the fuck do you pull like that?”
“… I know how to eat pussy. Ask her when she’s up,” she said with a scoff.
“Don’t needa ask, I heard. Dick,” your face burned with embarrassment.
Ellie’s boisterous laughter shook the apartment. You could hear her sock-covered feet padding on the floor as she inched closer to the door. You moved back to her mirror when her knob twisted and pretended to fix your tangled hair.
Ellie waltzed in and shut the door behind her.
“Hey,” you croaked, trying to sound as casual as possible. Don’t look at her!
“‘Sup,” she barely acknowledged. You flinched. You could see her rummaging around her room, shoving her earnings into a small shoe box on her nightstand.
Your gaze dropped to a random smudge on her mirror, “Um, Ellie?”
“Hm?” Ouch.
“… Do you like cupcakes?” you squeaked nervously.
“… Yes?”
“Really?” You twirled with a grin on your face, your arms giddily waving around in the air. “Me’n Niah always make cupcakes on Wednesday in the West Wing! Did you know they just upgraded their toaster oven?! We’re making some for Dina and Jesse but they only like vanilla like boring losers. I personally like red velvet, but we can make any flavor you want!”
You rambled joyfully, eager to hear her flavor preference. She seemed like a strawberry person! Or German chocolate—
“Vanilla’s fine.”
She answered plainly, and your spirit dropped. You didn’t allow your disappointment to show on your face too much, your arms falling limp at your sides.
Your efforts failed when she shut you down, “I don’t mean to be rude, but I really need… t’get ready and stuff.”
You shook your head incessantly, “No, no, I get it! I, um… I needa get Niah up anyway.”
Ellie nodded and stared at you blankly. She didn’t say anything else after that, impulsively reorganizing her little piggy bank. Sadness churned in your gut, your smile dropping as you clenched your fists.
“S-See you Wednesday?”
“… Yup.”
You gave her a stiff nod and spun towards the door. You left as quickly as you could, shutting it harder than you should’ve. Tears built in your eyes against your will; Dina told you Ellie was aloof and a bit awkward, but she always seemed so comfortable around all your friends. You tried to justify her behavior since you were strangers, but it’s been weeks, and she’s been inside you! She never bothered to ask anything about you when you first met, even though you desperately wanted to know everything about her. You were starting to question if she even knew your name.
That familiar feeling from years ago was coming over you in the middle of your friend’s hallway, and you instantly felt nauseous. You prayed you would never experience something like that again; You moved fucking cities because of it, for gods sake! Maybe you were just too overbearing, too naive. Too… uppity for some people.
You’re a lot to handle! Not everyone is built for that. That’s just something you’re gonna have to understand at some point.
You knew Niah would cause a scene if she saw you upset, so you wiped your tears with your itchy sleeves and forced your insecurities down despite their desire to crumble you, making your way over to your best friend’s laid out form. You crouched and gently shook her awake.
“Ni. Ni, wake up,” your voice wouldn't stop cracking!
She choked and coughed awake; Her cotton mouth must be deadly! She smacked her lips together as her eyes tore open, dry as ever.
“Hi,” you whispered, “We gotta go. It’s almost noon.”
You had to pry Niah off Jesse and Ellie’s sofa, but you were able to get her out the door eventually. With her little goodie bags! You closed the entrance to their apartment and began your walk down the hallway.
You ignored the tears in your heart when you heard their front door lock; Ellie didn’t even want to see you out.
… Were you really that bad?
You said nothing the entire Uber ride back to the dorms. Niah fell asleep on your shoulder, and you cried silently, watching the white of winter pass you by.
Tumblr media
Class was fucking killing you.
You were exhausted and filled notebooks were practically overflowing out of your book bag; You were shocked that students’ bodies weren’t scattered across the quad. The first term was always the worst.
At least it was Cupcake Day! You couldn’t wait for Niah to pick you up.
“Order for Kayla!”
You were currently waiting on the chai latte Ellie was making, her back turned to you and she mixed your hot drink. You definitely weren’t here to secretly watch as she frothed cream in her cute, little Starbucks hat! Not at all!
She placed the lid on your drink and locked eyes with you. She didn’t call your name out, only sliding you the steaming cup with a quiet enjoy, spinning to return to her station before you could thank her.
You sighed and grabbed the steaming cup from the serving counter, snagging a seat farthest away from the coffee station. You sipped and waited with a crestfallen spirit, listening to the way Ellie’s voice lifted when she called out other peoples’ names. You wished you knew what you did wrong.
You concluded and accepted the fact that simply Ellie didn’t like you.
Outside of sex, obviously.
Tumblr media
You thought baking would distract you from the graying of your heart, but it only darkened as you iced the cooled desserts.
“Taste this. Is it too sweet?”
You turned and met Niah’s manicured finger covered in cream cheese frosting. You tasted it and instantly cringed as your tastebuds were overtaken by icing sugar. You were definitely getting older; Younger you would’ve told her to add two more cups of the soft power!
“Fuck,” she sighed and grabbed another pack of cream cheese from the small counter. “If you don’t like it, it must be trash.”
“… Yeah.”
She laughed lightly, “What the fuck? You’re not gonna coddle me?”
You only shrugged and continued to swirl chocolate frosting on the remaining cakes.
Niah wasn’t having it, “Bro are you good? You barely said shit to me all day.”
You shrugged and dolloped more of the better batch of icing on the cake, “I’m fine, class just sucked today.”
And Ellie hates me!
“Talk to me,” you saw her set her piping bag down near the cooling tray.
You lied, “Nothing to talk about. You know I hate my cognitive science class.”
Niah only hummed, and you know she’s only dropping the conversation for your sake. You would come to her when you were ready and less distraught by embarrassment.
You two finished in rigid silence. You made a small baggie full of cupcakes for Ellie like you did Jesse and Dina, making sure to add extra chocolate sprinkles next to the E fondant placed on her small desserts. You hoped she would accept the peace offering.
Tumblr media
Your throat was so dry.
You tapped your foot mindlessly against the floor as you and Niah waited for Jesse to open the door, gift bags scrunched in your jittery hands. You hoped you and Ellie could talk. Please be home!
The door ripped open, and Jesse greeted you.
“WHAT DAY IS IT!”
“IT’S CUPCAKE DAY!” you and Niah shouted, holding up the filled decorative bags.
He hugged you both before allowing you entry, Dina already sat at the small dining table set with cute China plates and a tea kettle. There was no sign of Ellie; The excitement in your shoulders dropped.
You set the sweet treats on the table and took a seat across Dina, Niah next to you. Jesse grabbed the steaming kettle and filled your cups up while Dina ripped the bags open.
“Greedy ass. Have some couth,” Niah scolded Dina playfully.
You jumped in with a sneaky smile, “Yeah, Dee, where’s your manners!”
“ME?!” she dropped the bag in shock, “I know you’re not talking!”
Your jaw dropped when she pointed an accusatory finger at you, “What’d I do!”
“Oh, now you’re confused! You two kept us up all night, why d’you think we slept so long after that party!”
Your face burned at the insinuation as Jesse and Niah snickered off to the side. Dina dug in the bag in search of her embroidered cupcake, shaking her head, “It’s silent now! Crazy.”
“She’s on your head,” Niah laughed out. Jesse sipped his tea like Kermit.
“… I hate all of you! Gimme my fucking cupcake!”
Dina passed you the bag after snagging hers and Jesse’s, and you snatched your wrapped dessert from the now crumpled bag with a pout. Ellie’s cupcakes were left at the bottom of the bag still in perfect condition. At least they were pretty.
Tumblr media
Dina, Jesse, and Niah migrated to the couch after you volunteered to tidy up the kitchen. Dina offered to help, but you shooed her away. She immediately grabbed Ellie’s bong off the little coffee table and packed it for the three of them. You knew their pothead asses wanted to smoke!
You were wiping the crumby table down with a wet wipe when your phone vibrated in your pocket.
Tumblr media
Your heart sped up in your chest at the message. Has she been here the whole time! Why didn’t she greet you! Your thumbs flew over your keyboard at the speed of light.
Tumblr media
She answered instantly, and your core spasmed.
Tumblr media
You gazed up to check on your friends, happy to see that they were paying you no mind! You probably looked insane standing in the kitchen with no air in your lungs.
Tumblr media
Why were you this tempted to walk into her room and ride her into the sunset?
Tumblr media
Your heart sank when you didn’t receive a text after that. Did you make her mad? Did she not want her cupcakes anymore?
You sighed and put your phone back in your jean pocket, finishing the nearly clean table. You leaned over it to get the little spots you missed.
“Hey, housewife,” she said quietly, pinching your ass like she always does.
Ellie’s raspy tone vibrated your eardrums, and you nearly dropped to your knees at the nickname. Her hair was down, and she had on grey fucking sweatpants. You would be her stay-at-home wife any day of the week! Iron her clothes, change her sheets, let her bend you over the counter while you’re cooking her dinner—
You peered at her over your shoulder, “Hi.”
Your cracked mumble made her smirk, “Those mine?”
Her head jerked towards the folded goodie bag, and you nodded, still bent over the table. She peered down at your ass before pulling out a seat.
“Sit with me.”
… An actual invitation that didn’t involve proposals to eat your ass?! Were you two actually getting somewhere?
You yanked your chair out and plopped in it, excitingly sliding the goodie bag towards her so she could pull her cupcakes out. You propped your head up with a grin and watched as she unwrapped the dessert, taking a slow lick of the sloppy icing job. She held eye contact with you with each pass of her tongue, and your eyes filled with hearts.
“Tastes good,” she mumbled before biting into the dessert.
“It’s not too sweet?” You sounded love struck.
She shook her head with a sly grin, “No such thing.”
… Why was she so fucking sexy!
“You coming on Friday?” she said around another bite.
Please make me cum on Friday!
“Yes,” your heart fluttered when she mumbled cool. “D’you know what you’re gonna wear?”
“Not yet. I might make a fucking homemade reindeer shirt or something, I’m broke,” she tossed the last bit of cake into her mouth and licked her fingers.
“I bet that’d look so cool! You’re so talented!” You beamed. You remembered viewing some of Ellie’s sketches that were hung on her wall and bed frame before she drilled you into her mattress. You always thought her depictions of Pokémon characters were so cute!
You saw her eyes widen before she looked down at the table, “Thanks.”
Her face was red, and her eyes didn’t meet yours… Was she blushing?
The moment was ruined, though. She hopped up from her seat before you could say anything else, quietly thanking you for the cupcakes. She scurried back to her room after throwing Niah a stiff see ya, slamming her door shut.
Everyone turned to look at you with confused stares, and all you could do was shrug sheepishly, your heart saddening. What did you say that was so embarrassing; She is talented!
Ellie was so interesting.
Tumblr media
Your study seshes with Niah were flying by. You swore your eyeballs were going to fall out if you stared at one more note sheet.
How was Niah able to smoke and not take at the same time!
Your last class of the week was finished, and you zoomed back to your dorm to get ready for tonight. This was one of the last parties of the semester and you wanted to impress!
You didn’t get out of the library until seven. The sun was starting to set, and you were nowhere near ready! You already had your outfit: a purple glow-in-the-dark Santa’s hat and your matching faux fur mini dress, but you needed an hour and a half for your hair, at the bare minimum! Niah needed to hurry up and finish her project meeting so she could help you pick shoes! What the fuck goes with purple anyway?
You stripped and showered quickly. You were in the middle of detangling your hair when Niah burst through the door with her books in hand.
“Fuck these professors bruh! They never give us this much work to do during the fucking semester and now we’re doing twelve fucking assignments at goddamn once five days before the year ends! I’m sick of this bullshit— “
You hyperfocused on perfecting your part, “Bitch, I don’t care about that! What color goes with purple best? Should I wear white or black shoes! What the fuck do I do?!”
Niah kicked her boots off and tossed her books on her dresser in the middle of her rant, already stripping down, “Mind you, I’m paired with two fucking idiots! How am I supposed to explain two-dimensional kinematics to somebody who— “
“NIAH!”
“WHAT!”
“… Take a deep breath through your no— “
“I’m not having a fuckin’ panic attack, relax. Wear white shoes,” she huffed before grabbing her pen out of her shoebox stash. You needed one of those for your liquor bottles!
Niah snagged your speaker before rushing in the bathroom to shower. Blow drying your hair was going to be a fucking pain!
Tumblr media
After finishing your hair and taking five spaced out shots over the next three hours, you and Niah were off into the night. You don’t know how you were trucking it so fast towards the Uber; You almost broke your damn ankle when you practiced walking earlier! Snapchat was already blowing up with people at the soccer house. And the music actually sounded good!
You slurrily asked your Uber if you could aux for the drive, in which he confusedly replied if the oxe could what? Niah laughed uncontrollably the entire ride. She always did love getting older Uber drivers!
The deeper you drove into the neighborhood, the more packed it was, people in sparkly, short dresses and more ugly Christmas sweaters. They were all hooting and laughing down the block, and it took everything in you to not rip the car door open and hop out to mingle!
The Uber parked in front of the white, four-floored home. You and Niah thanked him before jumping out and brushing past the lengthy line; You loved having friends in high places! Dina texted saying she’d be waiting for both of you by the door.
“Dina!” you shouted over the loud, bustling crowd. You waved at her when she saw you, grabbing your hand to pull you and Niah through the packed porch.
The soccer house was dimly lit with red and green LED lights and the walls were covered in Christmas socks and ornaments. They even had a blow-up snowman to take pictures with! She pulled you and your roommate into a bone-crushing hug and kissed your cheeks before pulling you deeper inside, making sure to keep you close so you wouldn’t get lost in the crowd.
She paused at the counter and grabbed the bottle of vodka, untwisting the cap and handing it to Niah. She wasted no time in downing a large gulp before passing it to you to do the same. You scowled at the taste and Dina laughed, wrapping her arm around your shoulders to lead you and Niah into the kitchen. The soccer team were timing each other’s shotguns, and by the blank look on Jesse’s face, he must be losing.
The players hugged you and Niah politely before Jesse pulled you in a tight hug. He shouted over the blaring speakers, “I’m getting cooked!”
A laugh escaped you as he shook his head and hugged Niah. She pulled her phone out of her bra and stared at you, waiting for you to answer her message.
Tumblr media
You smiled and nodded, grabbing Dina’s hand to pull her onto the dance floor. Ellie hadn’t passed your mind once.
Tumblr media
In all your years of being the trip-sitter and designated driver, you’ve never lost your friends in a crowd. You always prided yourself on being the most reliable person to party with!
So how did you end up losing your two friends, taking six more shots, and grinding on a random girl who was showing your neck a little too much love? You had no idea how long it’s been since Niah took Dina to the bathroom, the girl was hot, and you’re a slut! You gladly accepted the attention!
You were sipping from the bottle like you paid for it while grinding on whoever the fuck was grabbing your hips. Were you a bad person if you imagined Ellie was the one doing it? You hoped not.
Your head fell back on the girl’s shoulders, the fuzzies from her sweater tickling your neck as you moved against her, pushing your hips back on her front. You peered down at her… veiny hands, holy fuck, watching her watch glisten under the faint lights in the room.
Your arm came around her neck to pull her closer, her lips moving against your ear.
“Wanna go smoke?” she mumbled in against your skin over the 8O8s, and you nodded as fast as your neck would allow.
You pulled away from her and brushed past dozens of heads until you reached the back patio. You pried the door open in your haze and stepped outside, almost slipping on a rock like an idiot.
Your heart, nor your pussy was prepared to see Ellie and her friends seated on lounge chairs passing blunts around. Your drunk brain was sloppily telling you that something bad was going to happen! The loose strands of her hair were pulled back with little snowman clips, and she drew her own reindeer with a marijuana leaf behind it on a plain t-shirt.
You pulled your phone out to make it seem like you didn’t notice her, your screen filled with texts from Niah and Ellie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fuck, fuck!
You felt an arm wrap around your waist to guide you to a seat. Right across from Ellie. You’re fucked, you’re fucked!
You were pulled into the girl’s lap… You swore she told you her name, but you don’t remember! Ellie’s staring right at you! Why were her friends so fucking hot? The girl was massaging your hip and making sure your dress was pulled down enough, oh fuck—
Your eyes moved before your brain could stop them, meeting Ellie’s searing gaze as she gauged you, taking in your exposed thighs like she wanted to rip you to shreds. Hotly. She held your stare while she brought the roach between her lips and pulled from it, inhaling the sphere-shaped carbon before exhaling slowly.
The hammering in your ears wouldn’t stop. You had no idea what Ellie’s friends were laughing at, but she wasn’t laughing with them. Her eyes flickered from yours to the person behind you that was rolling up; Her jaw was clenched tight, and her brows were slightly furrowed.
… The fuck was happening right now.
The hot girl under you passed you the packed blunt, “Spark this for me?”
You jumped at the whisper. You nodded and took the lighter, flicking it and bringing the flame to the end of the blunt, rotating so it could catch evenly.
“You can hit it first,” you stared into the girl’s… pretty eyes. Shit.
You pulled from the blunt before passing it back to her, exhaling the carbon over your shoulder so it wouldn’t hit her face.
Ellie hadn’t moved from her position on the chair, but she was stiff, and her face was tense. You have never seen her like this before!
She leaned forward to stub the roach out on the table before standing. And walking towards you. And staring you down, fuck, you’re going to die!
“Mind if I borrow her for a sec?”
She held your gaze as she spoke, but it wasn’t directed at you. Smoke escaped from behind you.
“… Why?”
“Needa talk to her, Abby. About Dina,” she finally looked behind you and at the girl. Why’d you feel faint? Said girl—Abby squeezed your hip and your walls jerked.
“… Okay,” she looked weirded out by Ellie’s tone, but her expression eased when she looked at you. “Come find me when you’re done?”
You mumbled sure and Ellie scoffed, grabbing your wrist, and yanking you out of Abby’s lap. She led you through the jumping crowd and up the stairs, her hold on your arm getting stronger with each step.
She led you down a hallway before reaching up on the door sill and retrieving a key, unlocking the door, and leading you in.
She shut and locked the door behind you, tossing the key on the bed behind you. Ellie looked so deep in thought.
It was silent. Ellie was biting her nails.
“I like your shirt.”
You wanted to slap yourself! No one fucking cares! Something’s obviously bothering her!
“… Is Dina okay?” Ellie only nodded, and you followed.
“Um, great…”
You looked around the room; It had a bunch of women from sports magazines plastered on the wall and the bed wasn’t made with clothes scattered all over the floor. It wasn’t a complete pigsty. That’s a plus, right?
Ellie stealthy crept up behind you, her hands gently caressing your shoulders before sliding down your arms. She leaned forward so her head rested on your shoulder, her breath tickling your ear when she spoke.
“You’re so fuckin’ hot.”
You gasped harshly at her voice, and you felt her smile. Her slippery hands hooked under the hem of your dress and slowly slid it up, her nails grazing against your skin. You couldn’t stop shuddering.
“Remember when I asked somebody to fuck you with me?” She kissed your shoulder gently and you melted. She never treated you so softly! You nodded.
Your dress sat around your waist and your pussy dripped into your panties, your breath heavy when she whispered, “That was her. Think she’s gotta little crush on you.”
“R-Really?”
“Mhm. You like that?” She inched your panties down your thighs.
“I-I dunno—“ She was massaging your tits that were spilling out of your dress and you couldn’t breathe.
“You don’t know?” Her voice had a harsh bite to it, and all you could do was shake your head. You don’t know what to do, what to say—
“So, if I hit her up right now to tell her to come fuck you with me, you’d say no?” Her hand cupped your pussy, her palm digging into your clit. You hand came to rest atop hers to lessen the gap. Her slender fingers reached down and scooped some slick to bring back up to your clit. She rubbed you in slow circles and lapped at your neck, sucking more marks into your skin. You dug your nails into her wrist.
“I-I— “
“You what? Wanna fuck my friends? Want them t’pass you around and give you back to me?” She spat, and you moaned at the imagery. Her friends were so fucking hot!
… Give you back to her? What does she mean?! You’re about to flatline if she keeps touching you like this!
“Ellie, fuck— “
“Yeah? I treat this pussy good?” Her fingers sped up on your clit, forcing more juices out of your cunt. You squeezed around nothing, and your head fell back on her shoulder, whining at the ceiling as your orgasm grew in your tummy.
“So good, Ellie, fuck yes!”
“Uh huh, bend over, angel,” you listened and kicked your heels off before laying over the corner of the mussed bed, your hat flying off in the process.
“Put that back on,” she muttered.
“Hm?” you threw over your shoulder. She looked so sexy right now, what the fuck.
“Your hat, s’cute. Put it back on.”
You swore your heart grew wings. You sloppily threw it over your head and her fingers slid inside you. Your walls stretched to accompany her digits, and your head dropped onto the covers. The ring on her index finger was pressed against the entrance of your cunt the deeper she slid, and you squealed when her pace quickened.
Your orgasm rose much quicker than you would’ve liked. You never wanted Ellie to stop touching you! You want her close, close, close—
“Missed this angel cunt, my fucking god.”
“M’close, El, please, fuck! —“
“Yeah? Like when do what I fuckin’ want?”
“Yes! Yesyesyesyes—“ Your walls were strangling her.
“Who’s pussy is this,” she sounded so gross, like she already knew your answer.
“E-Ellie’s pussy,” She hits it so good!
“So cum for me, baby.”
You did, you did, you did!
You would’ve hit the floor if she wasn’t there. Her free arm wrapped around your waist to hold you up. You could hear her laughing as your legs shook and your cunt choked the fuck out of her, moans of her name muffled by the blanket that your face was shoved into.
“Atta girl, feels nice?” She cooed at you as her pace slowed. You whined in agreement while your clit twitched in aftershock.
She kissed the bottom of your spine before helping you into the mattress to recover. You heard her phone go off.
“C’mon, put your shoes on. Dina’s ready to go.”
… She expects you to walk?!
Tumblr media
Ellie slipped off somewhere after leaving you with Dina and Niah, saying that she had something to take care of before leaving. The party was still live!
And Jesse was fucking sloshed! He could barely stand up without his teammates supporting him.
Your arms were thrown around Niah’s neck while you sweetheart danced to Future. She gets so smiley when she’s faded; It’s adorable!
“Where’d your girl go?” she yelled over the music.
You blushed and smiled, “I dunno! She said give her a minute!”
Niah nodded and whispered in Dina’s ear, and Dina gave her a thumbs up.
“Come pee with me right quick!”
You agreed and followed her through the crowd again — the one downside to great parties: you can barely fucking move! You reached the dimly lit hallway and thanked god that the line wasn’t long.
Until Niah grabbed your arm to stop you in your tracks.
You flinched and furrowed your brows at her, “What’s the matter?”
“Uh, nothing!” She looked around frantically, “Let’s just use the one upstairs!”
“… Why?! The line isn’t even long,” You nudged her off you playfully and pointed at the three girls standing by the bathroom door. She stopped you again.
“Bro I can wait til we get home. C’mon—“ She shook her head at you.
But you brushed past her, “Stop being weird! It’ll take two seco— “
Your heart plummeted from your chest to the floor when you saw Ellie with her hand up shroom-bar-girl’s skin-tight dress, her tongue sliding over hers in a deep kiss. Shroom-bar-girl looked like she was about to explode, and Ellie smirked, her lips moving over hers like she was talking her through it.
Tears jerked in your eyes at the sight, your fists clenching, painted nails digging into your palms. But you couldn’t look away.
Niah grabbed your hand and yanked you away from the disastrous scene, trekking back through the crowd— can they fucking move! — and out onto the porch. You wiped your tears roughly when Dina approached with a concerned look, but Niah brushed her off, saying you’ll tell her in the morning.
Niah hugged you while you cried silently, the both of you waiting in the freezing cold for the Uber.
You and Ellie were never official, but you couldn’t ignore the fiery pain that sliced through you like a blade.
After all this time, did people still find you this disposable?

The Farmer, The Wrangler, & The Cowboy - TLOU II AU
Part Two - One Step
Tumblr media
18+ series
Summary: You're the new farmer in town with a big heart and an even bigger love for two women. What happens when these two women apparently hate each other? Part 2 follows the events of the Spring Fling.
Part One I Series Masterlist
You were absolutely elated on your way back home from the farm. You lived down the street from the town’s square, where the Spring Fling will take place. You had moved out from your mother’s house a little over a year ago, packing your things and heading to the familiar town of Jackson, Wyoming. Your Grandfather used to live in Jackson, so life up here wasn’t all that unfamiliar. You and your mother would make the 30 minute commute every weekend to visit him and the countryside. Through him you were able to learn all the farming tricks you know, him being the reason why you fell in love with the earth and animals in the first place.
Life back at home was fine, yet you couldn’t help but have a thirst for more. You always knew you wanted to be a farmer, but that wasn’t possible for you to do back home in the city. You felt stuck in your daydreaming for something different, so, you decided to make the short move into the town that you practically grew up in. Now here you are, having a fulfilling and successful farming life. Although, your social life is definitely the part where saidsuccess was running dry. The only people you talk to are Abby, Ellie, and your boss, Joel. A sweet old man that was nice enough to give you work. He said that your grandfather taught him a lot, so he knew you must be just as good as he was. Minus the farm animals, you only ever talk to three people. You couldn’t help this though, you were a very shy kid growing up. Never having as many friends as the other kids , always feeling left out, like an outsider. That was before you found yourself enjoying the connection with animals and crop growing, farming is your peace that you are grateful for.
Having been surrounded in a community that appreciates all the hard work you do, you’ve felt yourself begin to branch out a bit more. That is exactly how you met your best friend, Abigail Anderson. Although you were very attracted and afraid of her simultaneously at first glance, you have grown to love her for her hard exterior and gooey insides. Having her agree to go to the dance was a whole other mission in itself. It took a lot of promises of sleepovers, doing her chores, and lots of making her food for her to agree. And who could blame you? You wanted to see your hot best friend dressed up with a drink or two in her system. Abby got protective and handsy when tipsy and boy did you look forward to tonight.
After a few errands, you anxiously decided to get dressed for tonight. You wanted to look good for your girls, for your friends. With a huff of air, you start the tap in your shower to wash off the grime and muck of the day. The spring sun has left you kisses of a tan on your body. You smile at yourself, loving the way the tan made you look. Your wandering mind made you begin thinking about how the sun brings out the extra freckles on Ellie and Abby. This made your mind wander a bit more… You found yourselfdeep into your psyche, something you did in the depths of the night, alone in your bed. Obscenity carrying your thoughts about both girls, how you wondered just how far down their bodies the speckles of darker skin spread. Fantasies about having the both of them fill your mind as your hand slightly wanders south. A shaky breath escapes your mouth as the gentle feeling of the tip of your fingers trailing down your chest, down your stomach, and stopping just above your core. Just as you were about to dip into your fantasies, you heard a loud knock on the bathroom door;Abby. You forgot that you invited her over to head over to the dance together. You curse your past self for giving her a spare key.
“Darlin, you okay in there? Ya’ know we gotta leave soon, right?” You could basically hear the smirk in Abby’s voice, almost as if she knew what she was interrupting in here. Your eyes shoot wide open at the thought. There's no way that she saw me..right? You shake your head at the stupid thought and finish rinsing your body.
“Mhm! M’ all good Abs!” You answer back in a huff, distracted by your pulsing core. You turn the water cold in hopes of clearing yourself of your dirty thoughts about your best friend next door.
You rush to get ready since you definitely spent way too long in the shower. Abby asked what you were doing in a joking manner. It took everything within you to keep a somewhat decent poker face. You didn’t trust your voice one bit, so you did the next best thing, you flipped her off.
“Watch the attitude, princess!” she shouted from your living room.
You were dressed in your best black chinos and a simple black t-shirt. Your favorite bandana was tied on your head, pulling your hair up and out of your face. You slip on your trusty brown blundstones boots and make your way out to the living room. You almost drool at the current view in front of you. Abby sat there with her legs wide on your galaxy blue couch, Her muscular thigh in her tight chinos chiseled and contoured her legs. Your eyes trailed up to her torso; her strong hands lay on her stomach, fingers slowly massaging her stomach in no specific pattern. Her beautiful blue eyes were trained on the TV in front of her, other hand raked through her loose locks. Fuck, you love her with her hair down. Her cream colored hat sat next to her on the couch. She looked like she was out of a movie scene, the way the setting sunlight glistened and illuminated her body had you struggling to breathe. You suddenly felt anxious about tonight. You weren’t stupid, the women in Jackson had eyes. Unfortunately, you weren’t the only one to notice Abby’s beauty. You wanted her in ways you wouldn’t form in your mind, yet still, you couldn’t make a move. You inhaled once more and made your way to your best friend.
“Sorry I took so long, I got distracted.” You anxiously fiddled with your fingers. Abby looks at you with a hard to read face, you never know what is going on in that brain of hers. She clears her throat after a few beats of taking you in and rises from the couch letting out a low whistle. The blonde walks over to you and fixes the sleeve on your shirt.
“You look perfect, sweetheart.” Her low drawl seeps out her mouth and into your ears. You immediately turn your head away from her eyes, feeling shy in front of her. Abby tsks and gently grabs your chin to look up at her.
“C’mon, none of that. You look beautiful. Now, take the compliment n’ say thank you.” Abby raises her eyebrow. Your breath gets heavy at how close you two are. The 6’2 goddess towering above you as you crane your neck to look into her eyes.
You bite your lip and flush. “M’ sorry, thank you,Abby.”
Abby nods her head in acceptance and leaves a pec on your cheek. She grabs her hat off the couch and leads you towards your front door. She doesn’t even have to ask for you to follow her, she knows that you’ll be there.
The casual dominance that Abby exudes leaves you feeling dizzy. She is a woman who demands respect from anyone and everyone. She didn’t get so far in her field to be thought of as a pushover. Unlike you, Abby always demanded the space she was in. It was the little things that she did that made your heart absolutely flutter;holding the door open for you, walking on the side of the walkway that is closest to the road, having a possessive placement of her hand on the base of your hip, and so much more. It was also the little things that confused you.
Abby was much harder to read than the auburn girl who runs parallel in your mind. You can always tell when Ellie was being flirtatious. Ellie Williams was a ladies girl, her whole entire being is one big ball of flirt. At least with her, you know that she is trying to get you under her. On the other hand, Abby is quite the opposite. Abby is the definition of never kiss and tell, she is too focused on her reputation and goals that she never bats an eye at the women fawning over her. You could only hope that she sees you differently than them.
“What’s gotten you suck in that head of yours?” Abby speaks up from beside you; the two of you on your way to town square. Her hand lay gently in your back pocket, a new thing she has seemingly picked up on.
You shake your head with a smile and look back up to the blonde.
“‘S nothin’ you gotta be worried about, Abs.” You give her a smile. Abby returns a smirk, yet you know she doesn’t believe you.
“Ya’ know, I thought you’d be more excited. Ya’ somehow got me n’ Williams to agree to be in the same place.” She huffs, trying to cheer you up from whatever has gotten you in your head. This seems to do the trick because you are immediately back to your wide smiles and doe eyes.
“Oh my goodness! Almost forgot!” You giggle and nudge Abby. A genuine grin adorns her face as she sees your smile. The lengths she’d go to make you laugh. ‘As long as they’re happy’ is what Abby tells herself.
“Ya mean I could’ve turned around?” She pouts like a kicked puppy. You smack her giant bicep with a frown.
“Hush! Now c’mon! We’re here!” You pull at the hand in your backpocket until she places her big hand in yours. You are practically barrling in the doors, dragging Abby behind you in amusement.
The once dingy church was converted to a beautiful meeting center for the townspeople. Events such as weddings, birthday parties, and community dances now take place. Glowing fairy lights arch their way across the ceiling, illuminating the faces of individuals from different corners of town. Abby slows you down with a gentle tug as she prevents you from colliding with a townsperson, you don’t even notice with your head in the clouds.
“C’mon darl’, lets go grab a drink.”
Abby firmly presses her hand on the small of your back as she escorts the both of you to the bar. Suddenly, a low whistle is heard from beside Abby as the two of you wait for the bartender to serve you. Lo and behold, Ellie Williams appears into your line of vision. A gracious smile appears on her face as she sees how excited you are. Ellie makes deep eye contact with Abby, silently exchanging words with each other before turning her attention back to you.
“Aren’t you a sight for sore eyes.”
Ellie’s eyes trail from your tight-dress pant clad legs up to your perfect smile. Abby notices and grips your hip a bit harder. Ellie rolls her eyes at the blonde’s protectiveness, something she knows all too well.
“Howdy, Anderson.” Ellie tilts her hat in greeting. Her eyes linger on the blonde, taking in her stature. Unlike you and the other girls, Abby’s eye contact remains. Her face level, hard to decipher. You can’t tell if you are gonna need to break up a fight, but either way you have decided you need a drink. Abby nods back at Ellie with an unreadable smirk and Ellie…blushes? You can’t tell if your eyes are playing tricks on you, but you don’t get to read into it much when the bartender finally comes to take your order.
You grab a beer as Ellie and Abby grab a whiskey neat. You giggled when they both cut each other off when telling the bartender what they wanted. You have always said that if the two of them got off their high horses, they’d be the best of friends.
Small talk is traded between the two as you try and delve in conversations with the both of them. Abby and Ellie, too proud to do much more with each other, lead them to fight for your attention. Everytime one had your attention, the other found a way to have their body on yours. The combination of the alcohol and the feeling of them all over you made it hard for you to think straight.
Unbeknownst to you, Ellie and Abby could see the squeezing of your thighs and felt that flush of your warm body. They silently decided to join forces, both enjoying how needy you were getting.
You were practically sitting in Abby's lap as Ellie was whispering in your ear about something stupid. Their excuse was that you needed to be close due to the loud noises coming from the dance and the band. Abby's hand trailed up your thigh, slightly getting closer to your core as time went on. Your breath was ragged and your face was flushed. All of your thoughts were jumbled, yet two things remained clear, your need for Ellie and Abby.
A familiar song starts to play in the background as Abby and Ellie exchange some words between each other. You snap out of your haze and immediately wrangle out of Abby’s grasp.
Abby tightens her hand on yours and pulls you back to face her. Both Abby and Ellie are confused at your sudden burst.
“What’er ya doin’?” Ellie draws with a lazy smile.
“Needa-hiccup-dance!” You sway drunkenly as the blonde and the auburn haired girls look back at you in amusement.
When did you get this drunk? Everything felt like a haze when you were around them. All your thoughts turned into mush.
Abby stands so that her hands on your hips; she’s trying to stop you from drunkenly stumbling out of her line of vision.
“Hmph, let go Abs! -hiccup- can do it m’self! Wanna dance!” You pout like a baby. Why couldn’t she understand you wanted to dance?
Abby chuckles at you and shakes her head.
“Darlin’ yer drunker than my aunt Kathryn on a friday night. Ya’ know ya’ lightweight.” Abby pushes you closer to her so that you’re resting your head on her chest.
You look at Ellie for support, yet she’s just smiling at the two of you. She stands up and sandwiches you between Abby and her. You’re surrounded by pure muscle. The two similar but very distinct smells of their respective bodies fill your senses.
“Don’t look at me, princess! Anderson’s got a point. Ya’ know how Kathryn gets n’ yer gettin’ there.” Ellie cackles at the memory of Abby’s aunt. All you do is pout in response.
Abby perks up at the familiar sound of Ellie’s laugh. She would never admit it outloud, but she missed it. You let out a huff and loosen yourself from Abby’s hold.
“Gonna dance right here then!” You huff.
God, you hope you don’t remember this in the morning. You turn yourself around so that your back is facing Abby’s front. Feeling the music, your drunken self starts sensually moving your hips on your best friend. You can feel Abby’s hands on your hips grow tighter as if she was warning you not to continue. You feel her breath hitch on your upper back as you grind onto her lap. Your eyes are locked in on Ellie as she takes in the sight of you. Seeing you rub your body on Abby as her strong hands grope your torso makes her mind flurry with excitement.
Ellie leans forward and places her hands below Abby’s, resting dangerously close to your ass.
“What are ya up to, sweetheart?” Ellie whispers in your ear. You bite your lip and place your hands onto Ellie’s.
“Dancin’ with my favorite girls. S’ that a crime?” You bat your eyes. Ellie looks up from you to lock eyes with Abby.
“Think you can share, Anderson?”
“I mean we are on our best behavior, right?”

Hiiiii I was thinking about some of the drabbles from before and everyone has History and Some Issues, but I’m curious so,, what would the ROs younger selves think about who they grew up to be? Or what would the ROs tell their younger self?
anon i am obsessed with this question... in terms of meeting their younger selves:
adegoke: his child self would be confused and probably a bit scared. his teenage self would be a little disappointed. there is a lot that adegoke had to work through to get to where he is now.
arthur: i keep going back and forth on what young arthur would think of his older self, because i’m not sure that he would really know what to think. i don’t think he would be pleased. i think the closest emotion would probably be disgust, because what a sad little life.
atticus: i think young atticus would be so pumped at how he turned out and i think that would make present day atticus very sad indeed.
avery: would be angry before any other emotion, i think, because she wants more for herself and she must have done something wrong somewhere along the way to fall so short of what she is capable of. i think that she and present day avery could have a very long talk about that, but she would need to make all of the same mistakes for herself anyway.
charlie: i guess just bewildered? i think that of everyone, charlie might be the most surprised by where he ended up.
ellis: before the start of the show? i think young ellis would be pleased that they had achieved so many of the things that they weren’t sure they would be capable of doing, and perhaps a little sad that they hadn’t done some of the other things that they thought would come easily. as of episode 3? crushingly, excruciatingly heartbroken.
florrie: thrilled, delighted, absolutely jazzed! after always being told that growing up would mean giving up a lot of the things she finds fun, little florrie would be so thrilled to learn that isn’t true.
griffin: i’m not sure how much thought griffin has ever really given to the future or who he will be or where he’ll end up, so i’m not sure he’d have strong feelings either way? he’d be like oh okay and then go back to playing hahaha
imogen: really proud of herself. imogen has had to do a lot of hard things to get to where she is and i think young her would be grateful to know that she does have it in herself to do them, actually.
nyra: would be encouraged by some parts and disheartened by others, but in general i think it would be extremely emotionally charged. they’d have a big hug, there would definitely be tears.
rowan: teenage rowan would probably be like omg cringe hahaha - she had a real Not Like Other Girls phase and adult rowan kind of prides herself on being like other girls actually because girls are sick!
syd: would be fuckin psyched, i think? syd more than anyone has really exceeded their childhood expectations.
vinh: would just absolutely break down in tears of relief. they made it, they're doing it, they're okay. their life isn’t perfect, but it’s theirs and they are living it on their own terms. also they get to make art all the time, and isn’t that just the dream.

the girl in my psych class
ellie williams x reader
synopsis: there’s this really pretty girl in your psychology class who constantly catches your eye
maybe part 2?
Tumblr media
sixth row, third seat from the left. that’s where you sat in your sophomore psychology class. it was boring as hell. all the teacher did was ramble on about shit. did you know the different types of conditionings? nope. or maybe about the parts of the brain? absolutely not.
the only thing you seemed to learn was ever detail of the pretty girl in the fourth row, fourth seat from the left.
she had pretty, auburn hair. had it put back in a little bun. she had a large tattoo on her arm, it had a cute moth on it. she didn’t talk much, only when she absolutely knew the answers. her friend sat to her right, and they loved to whisper and talk.
you’d learned this girl’s name is ellie from the teacher calling on her. oh, ellie. what a pretty name.
if you had more confidence, maybe, just maybe you’d try and catch her after class. but to no avail. she was so pretty it intimidated you. she looked hardcore, too.
you say in the dining hall, eating your shitty pasta. should’ve gotten the steak. and suddenly, there she was, sitting a few tables in front of you with her friend and another guy. this guy, you actually knew. jesse was your roommates partner in health and wellness.
the second jesse spotted you, you cringed internally.
no, jesse! don’t call attention to me!
he left his table, chair screetching across the floor as he stood. he plopped himself in the seat across from you.
“hey, what’s up?” he asked nonchalantly.
you could see ellie and her friend trying to sneak glances at who you were. her friend caught a glimpse of you and you could see the recognition as she whispered to ellie.
“oh, uh, not much. just eating this shitty pasta.” you reply, hands fidgeting under the table. “who’s your friends?”
“ellie and dina, ellie’s the one with the bun, dina has the ponytail. they’re in the same year as us! we’re from the same hometown.” jesse smiled. “you know,”
oh god, jesse, don’t say it.
“you’re sitting all alone,”
jesse, please!
“why don’t you come sit with us?”
you cringed internally. you couldn’t just say no. jesse was cool, and you really did wanna be a good friend of his. plus, even through your nerves, you wanted to be by ellie.
“sure,” you nod, forcing a smile. “that’d be cool.”
jesse grabbed your plate and once at his table, let it hit the surface right in between him and dina, meaning you faced ellie.
the second you sat down, dina was all about asking questions. where’d you grow up? how old are you? what’s your major?
so, you told her everything. dina’s eyes lit up when you said your major. “that means you share a lot of classes with ellie! that’s really cool!”
you looked at ellie sheepishly. she just smirked at you, causing you to look back to jesse.
he and dina were immersed in conversation, ellie listening closely as you ate your shitty pasta to keep your mouth busy in hopes no one would talk to you. you were just too damn nervous. especially when ellie and you would lock eyes.
the next day, back in psych, things changed. as you fiddled on your phone, the seat next to you was suddenly filled, and not by jared.
“hey,” ellie’s voice rang in your head.
you popped out your earbuds quickly with a surprised look on your face. dina was right next to her.
“hey, hi!” you replied, stumbling over your words a bit.
“hey, that’s my seat,” jared complained as he walked in.
ellie looked to him, “well it’s mine now. scram, jared.” jared left without a second thought.
through out the class, you took notes on your laptop and ellie would draw doodles on the side of it with her pencil. she didn’t take notes, apparently.
this happened for the next to days. you’d take notes, ellie would draw. at lunch, slowly, the four of you would be immersed in a group conversation. you and ellie never talked much together, though. you wished you did.
after those few days, you were in your dorm, roommate god knows where. you heard a knock at your door.
“coming!” you yelled.
quickly, you slipped on some fuzzy socks and went to open the door. once open, your jaw nearly dropped when you saw ellie there, backpack slung over her shoulder.
“hey,” her voice rang just the way it did in psychology. “mind if i come in?”
you stepped aside, “no, yeah, please, come in!” you replied. you saw ellie smile at your words.
she slid off her shoes and walked over to your side of the room.
“this one yours?” she pointed to your bed as you nodded. she hopped up without care, pulling out her phone. “dina’s out with jesse, so i got bored in my dorm, asked jesse which was yours. he helped you move in?”
nodding, you hesitantly sat in your desk chair next to the bed. “yeah, i moved in late and my friend asked him to help.”
“why’d you move in late?” ellie inquired, her attention now on you.
“i was sick during move in week.” you replied, now feeling nervous under her stare.
she looked to the empty spot beside her, “come on up, i don’t bite.” she smirked at you and patted the spot she wanted you in.
slowly, you made your way to it. you crawled up next to her, leg pressed against hers.
“mind going over the psych notes with me?” she asked. “i hate that class.”
“i can tell, you never take notes.” you giggle.
she smiles, “why do that when i have the best teacher right here?”
so, for the next half hour, you go over the weeks materials with her. anytime she had a question, she’d grab your finger and point to it on the screen. she’d stare into your eyes when you spoke, tilting her head to her a good view of your reddening cheeks.
“and so classical conditioning-”
“you’ve got pretty eyes,” ellie interrupted.
you froze. “sorry?”
ellie started laughing, “oh, you’re so cute. i’ve known you’ve been staring at me in class since the semester started.” your face turned an angry shade of red. “it wasn’t hard to tell when you have love struck eyes staring holes into your head.”
“i-i’m not love struck!” you counter.
“sure, sweetheart,” ellie taps your nose. “and i’m not gay as fuck.”
your heart stopped. “you are?”
“mhm,” ellie hummed. “and i happen to think you’re stunning.”
your face couldn’t get any redder. ellie moved the laptop from your lap. now, she was even closer, your noses almost touching. you thought she was going to kiss you for a moment.
she leaned in, and in, and in..
to your ear. “wanna go on a date, love?” she whispered softly.
you managed to hum a soft reply as she pulled back smirking like hell. “perfect. until then, mind if i still hang? i did want an excuse to come over here, but dina really is gone and i really wanna get to know you.”
so, the rest of the day was spent studying psychology and learning about each others lives with the girl from your psych class.

In honor of my completion of DWTC annotations, I present to you my resurfaced thoughts on how the Proctors' attachment styles create their dynamic because it's become my Default Thought (TM) again and I will never in fact get over this.
So there's Elizabeth and she's fearful-avoidant, and there's John and he's anxiously-attached. (Note that it is a documented phenomenon to have the anxiously-attached subconsciously seek avoidant partners who aren't quite that available.) They both experience some level of anxiety about the relationship, but he personalizes her avoidant tendencies and believes they're about him specifically. They're not--she's just afraid he'll realize she's more broken and less lovable than he thinks.* This personalization of her avoidant tendencies, combined with their mutual inability to discuss their anxieties (on her end, obviously out of the aforementioned avoidance, and on his end, out of gender roles where he, as a man, cannot openly express his anxious attachment), ultimately leads to their downfall. Both are willing to burn their candles at both ends for each other regardless of personal cost, but neither is able to communicate and his tolerance for the frustration and distress of it all turns out to be lower.**
*Would this be an Ellie post if I didn't discuss how their disorders play into this? Of course not, so I am now going to discuss how their disorders play into this! I've mentioned before the idea of John's splitting in relation to Elizabeth as his designated "favorite person" and that he swings from idealization to disappointment when their communication fails. What I have not mentioned before is that both approaches make her feel even more unworthy. "Why does he think of me as so wonderful? He's going to realize soon that I'm not as lovable as he thinks," then, "So he's finally realized I'm not as lovable as he thinks. I knew he would, but why did it have to be just when I thought I was safe?" See also the chorus of "all my daughters" by dodie. It fits so perfectly. (The flipside of this is of course that when he turns his splitting on himself following his affair, he expects her to be thinking of him the same way, even though she's not--she's hurt, but not to the point of viewing him as solely bad. "I never thought you anything but a good man, John, only bewildered somewhat," anyone?) On the other end, I've mentioned before what the idea of reading Elizabeth as on the spectrum implies for her character: alexithymia makes cognitive empathy harder, so she knows something is wrong but can't quite put words to it that easily. She's also more prone to the ignition of rejection sensitive dysphoria, so...let's just say for a third time that her husband's splitting doesn't help, as well as that the time period's inability to understand her symptoms as anything other than deliberate resistance is also a factor. (Oh, and by the way, this absolutely includes her own inability to understand her symptoms as anything other than deliberate resistance! She feels inherently broken and yet finds herself seemingly unfixable.) I've said before that perhaps her low self-esteem comes from this misunderstanding and the resulting mistreatment, which gave her the fearful-avoidant attachment that she carries with her into her marriage.
**This is not necessarily a bad thing--the bad thing is what it led him to. I would argue that Elizabeth's ability to tolerate that much is a bad thing because she's put up with so much that she cannot believe she is worth asking for more.

Boxer!Ellie X Physio!Reader

Part 2 of Motivation
My Masterlist
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was the sixth round of twelve. Ellie had promised that this fight would be easy and it would last three rounds at the most. But her she was bloody nose and panting as she glared at her opponent, angry at their resilience.
Ellie's opponent looked worse than she did. A black eye forming on the left side of their face and a busted lip, dripping blood from the open cut. It had been a month since Ellie's proposal for you to be her personal physical therapist and medic, and inevitability you agreed.
Now you were watching her throw punch after punch at someone's face, the crowd cheering and spurring on the violence. Ironically, you have never liked contact sports, you'd seen too many cases of sports men who played violent sport suffer horrible irreversible injuries that lead to an early retirement.
You couldn't say that you liked boxing. But Ellie did, Ellie loved it, she lived for it, it was her whole world and she knew the risks, because believe me you made sure she did, and she chose to still take part in it.
The sound of a bell ringing out drew you from your thoughts, it's chimes signalled the end of the sixth round and the beginning of the one minute interval between rounds.
Ellie's coach rushed between the rings ropes and began speaking to her, obviously trying to psyche her up for the next round. You could tell she wasn't paying him any attention, her eyes scanned the crowd of staff, her gaze softened when she spotted you.
You raised an eyebrow at her, tapping your wrist as if to say 'hurry up and knock him out'. Her smile turned into a smirk as she gestured a mock salute mouthing a joking 'Yes ma'am' and scoffed when you rolled your eyes at her.
Ellie's coach gave hera rag and she wiped her face of any sweat and blood she could before the bell rang out signalling the end of the interval. Everyone who wasn't the two fighters left the ring and soon Ellie began dishing out punches once again.
The opponent backed away while trying to dodge Ellie's swings until they found themself backed up against the ropes, now cornered by Ellie and forced to take attack after attack to the head. You could see the dizziness build up in their eyes, their arms were up, trying helplessly to shield their head from the harsh punches Ellie was dishing out.
But finally Ellie's opponents legs have out, and now laid unconscious on the padded ground and the crowd roared with excitement. The audience began the countdown.

Ellie had won. Thank God. And the referee entered the ring along with some medics. The medics attended the unconscious state of Ellie's opponent and the ref locked hands with Ellie raising it in the air as a sign of victory, the cheers that echoed throughout the room made a cocky smirk spread out on her face.
Relief fled throughout your body, watching Ellie closely, studying every bruise, cut and affliction she had accumulated throughout the match. As soon as she stepped out of the ring you rushed towards her, wrapping you arms around her shoulders carefully, trying not to disturb any angry purple bruises.
"Hey baby" she leaned down and whispered in your ears, wrapping her arms around your waist and rocking side to side. "Let's talk somewhere quieter, too loud out here to hear your pretty voice properly." She hummed before holding your hand and guiding you towards a bathroom backstage.
When you were both inside, she turned around locking the door and sighing. "Thought you were gonna lose then." You teased and laughed when Ellie's face dropped in mock offense.
"Rude. I never lose, especially not when my girls watching me... What are you doing..?"
"Looking for a first aid kit."
"of course you are" she scoffs and rolls her eyes playfully. When you finally find the white plastic box with a red cross in the middle you push yourself onto the countertop, gesturing to Ellie to come closer, she does slipping in between your legs and resting her hands on your legs, gripping your thighs.
You took out an antibacterial wipe, wiping down the various, bruises, scratches and blood on her face. Grabbing and applying various creams, balms and plasters onto scratches and cuts that littered her muscular body. Due to her wearing only a sports bra and gym shorts, you had easy access to all over her body.
"You're lucky y'know. This could've been a lot worse..." "Yeah but it wasn't, so don't worry angel, I'll be fine, can't say the same for the other guy" she chuckled, pushing a strand of hair behind your ear.
She leaned into you, tilting her head to the side and pressing her slightly chapped lips to your softly. You hummed against her lips, happily tugging at her hair.
"cmon sweetheart, we should go celebrate my win"

Bro I wrote this and didn't save it properly and Tumblr deleted it 😭 so here it is rewritten.
Also I don't know boxing so excuse any errors when I'm writing about the boxing match lol. ❤️

☾ ONE NIGHT STAND MASTERLIST ☽
Tumblr media
To say she felt different was a definitely a statement, and to say that each text message she sent felt like a love letter would be a bit dramatic.
But it was true, you explained to your cat. Poppy sitting pretty in the kitchen windowsill while you moved your hands around like a crazed woman each day something Ellie said would get you excited.
Ellie wasn't like the other girls you'd talked to, and she sure wasn't like Anya who still drunk texted you from time to time which you promptly ignored and then forgot about.
Focusing your energy elsewhere, elsewhere being Ellie and Poppy who did not care about you nor the girl you squealed about each day while practically hugging your phone.
And now the day came, the day you'd set up a real date with the practical stranger, hoping that you weren't psyching yourself up again all for it too fall through the floor like it usually did.
She was straight, or she was taken. She didn't want you or she wanted you so bad but wanted that other girl too.
It was always something, but this time was different. You could feel it.
"Finally." You heard her voice as you stepped up towards her table outside the restaurant, rolling your eyes playfully while hooking your purse on your chair. "Oh shut it, I already told you why I'm running behind."
You sat across from her, hearing her all too familiar chuckles.
"Yeah, yeah. Cat's are evil, I'm telling you." "You don't know Poppy, she's an old soul, she has attachment issues."
You felt like you had the first night you met her, butterflies tickling your insides while with each breath you felt the air escaping you. It was as if she was stealing it away.
"I forgive you.. this time." She shrugged, leaning back in the chair, her hands resting between her legs on her thighs. "I'd hate to have you mad at me.." You rested your head on your palm, crossing your legs in front of you as you met her darkened green eyes.
"..but I'd bet you'd love it. Especially finding ways to get rid of it." "If it was anything like the first time then yeah, and I wasn't even mad then." You felt yourself going hot, instead focusing away on a waiter walking up to the table with a notepad in hand, scribbling a number down.
"Decide what you guys want to drink?" "Coke." Ellie replied without tearing her eyes away from you, making you nervous under her stare.
"Um.. sorry I'll have a mimosa." "You got it." He stared at you for a second longer before walking off leaving you both to yourselves once more.
"How's work been?" You then asked, turning your head to face her once more while a lopsided smirk displayed itself on her lips. "Boring. Jesse's been getting all good clients."
"What do you get the valley girls wanting matching cherry tattoos? Or maybe the dicks that want their dicks done."
Ellie snorted messing with the fork on the table while shrugging.
"Something like that. What about you?" "It's been slow, since you payed me the little visit in my office." Your phone buzzed but you ignored it, continuing on. "Besides that... nothing much." "Oh c'mon, someone like you can't have that boring of a life."
You giggled with a shrug seeing from the corner of your eye a waiter walking towards your table, setting your drinks in front of you.
"I dunno, I've been focusing most of my time to a few certain people." You thanked the waiter, taking a drink of your beverage. "Decide what you want to eat?"
You knew that voice anywhere, glancing up to meet your ex's eyes, throwing an awkward smile on your face last minute. Swallowing harshly while you nodded.
"Yeah, actually. Right?" You turned to Ellie wanting to avoid Anya's face as much as possible while Ellie's eyes went a bit wide nodding, confused as hell it would've made you laugh if you weren't about to fall off your chair.
"Veggie burgers, for me." "Sounds like you, Y/n." You wanted to puke, sending her another sharp smile. "You guys know each other?" Ellie then questioned, biting her lip while Anya spoke for you.
"Yeah, funny enough–" "Long time ago, friends." You shrugged, Ellie again looking at you awkwardly while Anya glared you down.
Ellie said her order, glancing back to you every now and again. Your legs vibrating up and down while you stared straight ahead and prayed that she'd just go away already, and finally she did.
"Everything alright?" Ellie laughed a bit, keeping it light hearted while you nodded. "Yeah, all good over here. Just wasn't expecting to see her." You laughed. "But back onto you.. what do like to do besides go to lesbian bars?" Again Ellie laughed, taking a drink of her soda.
"I draw, obviously." She could've smacked herself in the face for that one, but you giggled getting a grin out of her. "I like to play.. the guitar?" "Is that a question or a statement?"
From the corner of your eye Anya stood at another table, but was looking over at you. Yet you refused to give her your eyes, nodding as Ellie continued.
"Statement. Shit, sorry.. just.." "You're fine. Did you not see me five minutes ago?" You chuckled, adjusting your dress before again resting your chin in your palm. "Yeah I play, my foster dad taught me." "Aw, that was sweet of him." "Yeah he's great. Joel's a good guy." "You still live with him?"
She shook her head, looking down at her hands while playing with them.
"No, he adopted me after a shit ton of shit," She laughed. "but I moved out last year."
You nodded with a hum, your eyes unintentionally glancing away seeing Anya once more at another table. But with her gaze set on you.
"He sounds amazing." You then said, turning back to her. "What about you?" She then changed the subject, leaning back once more.
You took a breath.
"They're alright." You shrugged. "Me and my mom don't really get along but for the most part they're pretty cool. I have a few siblings but that's about it." "Siblings?" You nodded, sipping your drink seeing Anya disappear into the restaurant.
"A sister and a brother. Both older and upstate. But we text and call each other all the time. It's like we're all teenagers still living in the rooms beside each other."
Ellie stuck her bottom lip out, humming. "I'm guessing you're an only child?" "That obvious?" "A little, just the personality gives it away, but only a little." You referenced it with your hand, hoving the pads of your fingers over each other.
"So it's just you and Poppy in the city?" "Yep." You said popping the 'p' with a grin. "She was gift, from my grandma before she passed. My grandma's favorite flower was Poppies, we agreed on the name together before.." "Maybe she really is an old soul."
Ellie winked while you gave her a soft smile, sitting up a bit at that.
"That's a sweet way to think about it. Do you have any pets?" "Not in my apartment. Joel has a dog though, he's old but he's awesome."
Anya then appeared at the table as if she teleported there, just as you were beginning to forget about it all, about her. Sinking back into Ellie's sweet voice that seemed to get excited at the idea of her old pet.
But thus it was interrupted by the she-devil herself.
"Here's your food." "Thanks." You replied sharply with not a care of your tone getting a glance from the girl across from you. "You're welcome Y/n/n." You stared forward at your plate, Ellie thanking her before she walked off.
"You sure she's an old friend?" "I'm not letting her ruin the date, eat and tell me about the dog." You snatched a fry from your plate, hearing Ellie laugh harder then she had the entire time you knew her.
"His name is Vegas." "Vegas?" You smiled. "Yeah, fits him. Trust me." "Will do, I'm guessing he's sweet though." "Very, has trouble getting up and down stairs though so Joel started sleeping on the couch. It's getting closer though.."
"Aw I'm sorry." She moved her shoulders. "Comes with life." "You've got quite the view on death, don't you?" "Just seen a some of it..." You nodded quietly, choosing your next few words. "If it helps.. so have I?"
Taking a few bites of your food, a comfortable silence around you both, allowing you to enjoy your food. Ellie watching you for a moment, deciding if she was going to bring it up, until she made her choice.
"She's not an old friend is she?" You took in a deep breath, opening your mouth but nothing came out. You could see the regret in Ellie's eyes from even asking the question, your phone buzzing once more.
"Hold that question for a sec." You smiled, trying to seem like you were as disheveled and uncomfortable as you were. Turning your screen on to see a few messages from the waitress herself, asking if it was you and who is she. The last being a teasing message poking fun at your taste in women.
"She's an ex. That's all." You said, practically shoving the phone into your back and turning to your alcoholic drink, avoiding Ellie's stare the entire time. "Not a fun one either, so no we are far from friends. But please, just let's get back to you or me. Anything but her."
Ellie wasn't sure though, awkwardly moving her jaw around while trying to push down her unsure feelings. She liked, she did, but your mind was far from her now.
"You alright?" Ellie forced herself to ask, feeling your leg bouncing up and down at your nervous picking at your nails. "Fine, I'm fine. Do you write songs?" "Sometimes. When I'm bored enough, or have good inspiration." You continued to eat while she talked, nodding to her words.
"You should come in for a tattoo." "Trust me I'd love to see you in your element, because fuck that just sounds hot," You smirked, seeing a little blush appear on her freckled cheeks while she looked away, "but a little needle being on my skin for more than a few seconds, yeah I'm opting out for now."
"Well, if you work up the courage." "You'll be the first I call. Have you thought about extending your career with art?" Ellie thought for a second, looking past you, eyes then shooting back to yours. "No, no probably not but when I was a kid I wanted to be an astronaut."
She smiled when you began to laugh, then deciding to cover your mouth.
"Sorry, that's adorable, reminds me of my brother. Would you ever go down that path?" "Maybe not now," She shook her head, matching your giggles, "but who knows, right?" "I wanted to be a writer as a kid, still now, working on my book and then the firm. I guess it was always meant to be."
"Guess so, I'd like to read some of that writing." "Hm, well you're making a great case for yourself. None of my friends are allowed too, but your... different?" "Is that so–"
"Would you like the check?"
You could've jumped, and Ellie nearly did, looking to your side as Anya gave you the fakest expression she could probably have mustered in that moment. And you've seen the girl be fake before.
"I guess?" Ellie said quietly looking at you while trying not to break out in laughter, but you were completely frozen, staring down at the table again.
"Alright, be back babe. Sorry, I mean Y/n." Anya snickered, like it was some sort of bad joke her date made and she wanted to pretend she liked them until it was over. "Yeah."
"You know, the food isn't bad here. The staff is terrible though." "I agree." You then spoke softly, trying to pull a happy face when you let her suck you back in. "Maybe next time we stick to an apartment?"
She could tell you perked up at the idea of a 'next time', a genuine beam of energy coming out when you spoke again.
"Poppy would love to meet you? Besides, maybe you can see more than just my bedroom?" "Don't hate the idea. But I did clean recently."
Her eyes then moved behind you once more, a nervous expression crossing her face and flooding her eyes.
"Everything alright?" You grabbed her hand, running your thumb along it gaining her attention before it hit you and you pulled away. "Sorry." "No you're fine.. fuck." She whispered under her breath, rubbing her fingers along her lips.
"What's your favorite season?" She could've replayed the way your face changed a million times over, like a confused puppy before you piped up once more.
"Winter, or fall, I do really like fall. Fires and hot chocolate. Cuddling. It's perfect." You shrugged excitedly, "yours?" "Fall, same reasons too." Her eyes went right passed you once more before Anya again teleported beside the table with the check in hand.
"Here–" Ellie took it from her and pulled her wallet out from her pocket. "Hey wait, we can split." "I got it, don't worry about it." "Ellie!" She smirked at you before shoving her card in the pocket of the check and signing the receipt.
"I said it's fine." She handed it back to Anya who couldn't help but glare at the woman across from you. "Besides, makes up for the terrible service." Anya stood there, almost stupidly while watching Elie hand her back the little black book, your ex walking off without another word.
"Thank you.. for the great date and for paying." "Eh, had to make it up for the shitty surprise you got."
Then, once more, she looked behind you, finally getting you to turn around.
"Hey, what about color?" But you didn't answer, seeing a woman sitting at the table with a familiar face. The girl who'd come to your office with Ellie, and a few others at a table.
But the woman wasn't looking at them, she was now looking at you after she'd been looking at Ellie.
"Pink, or brown. I like off-white too though." You then replied, turning back to her. "And you?" "Green." You began grabbing your bag, placing it on your shoulder while you both stood up awkwardly from the table.
"You want me to walk you home?" You grinned at her, nodding a bit. "If you'd like? And wouldn't mind?" "Shit, farthest from minding at this point." Ellie went to take your hand though it wasn't long lasting.
"So–" "Ellie!" The girl you'd made eye contact with earlier skipped over, brushing passed you in order to hug your date. Ellie seeming taken aback and a bit uncomfortable at the interaction.
"Hey Cat." She gritted her teeth and hugged her back, looking at you standing there trying not to look at them both for too long. Not wanting to seem invasive despite it being your date with her.
"I thought it was you! I wasn't sure though.. it was hard to see you.." She glanced at you yet didn't even care to introduce herself nor decide to turn to you at all. "Here's your card." Anya returned getting your attention while Ellie was handed back her card.
"I'll talk to you later Y/n/n." "What?" Ellie went to talk to you only for Cat to grab her arm, looking at you. "You're the girl Dina was talking about! Shit this is a date, isn't it?" Cat questioned, tilting her head like she was taunting you, but you weren't sure if she meant it that way.
"Sorry, I'm Cat, Ellie's ex-girlfriend. You've gotta be Y/n." "Yeah, actually. Nice to meet you–" "Awesome!" She then turned back to Ellie. "Come sit with us after you're done here."
You shifted uncomfortably, crossing your arms while looking to your date.
"Actually Cat–" "I've gotta go anyway, Poppy's waiting on me back home and besides, they're your friends." You gave her a reassuring smile before grabbing her upper arms and kissing her cheek.
"Just text me later, okay?" "Yeah sure, are you sure though?" Cat seemingly scoffed trying to pull her off towards the table.
"She doesn't need a knight in dull armor Ellie, she's got it." You laughed at the joke, giving Ellie a reassuring squeeze.
"All good, but I'm expecting a good conversation later." "Yeah, yeah of course."
And with that you walked off, hugging your arms as your dress blew in the wind. Your stomach finally dropping at the terrible date that had just took its course and for once you both shared a though.
That was awful. She thought.
"That was awful." You whispered

WHAT. 😱 He’s cursed?!? ELLIE PLEASE, I AM BEGGING. 🙏 Lore on Plauge Doctor???? A snippet of his deep dark backstory perhaps? Pretty please? A cherry on top? 🍒?
Oh, it's nothing special! Just the story of an average young man with an insatiable lust for death flying a bit too close to the sun </3
Tumblr media
(cws: death, active plague, sickness, mentions of rot, body horror)
In life, "Doctor" Symon Knox was as average as anyone else you might meet in that tiny village on the outskirts of Ordomia--a kingdom-turned-capital city as the world knows it now, far, far away across the seas from the campus he now finds himself employed. Being such a talkative, curious boy in his youth, it was no surprise to his elders that he dreamed of becoming a doctor, and perhaps one with impeccable bedside manner since he found it so easy to make people laugh their pains away.
But this was an era before cellphones and sterilization, and upon reaching his tender adulthood Symon found himself in the throes of an unimaginable plague spreading across the continent, wild and uncontrolled as it killed indiscriminately. Still in the service of his mentor at the time, Symon was given the role of scribe during the last moments of each patient's life. Chivalrous or wicked, senile or sane, he penned each word to save and keep on record for many months, and grew quieter and quieter as the job worked him past his own limits. In time, it felt as though the mask he donned was a feature of his own face, the leather and cloth part of his skin that stuck fast to his bones. Not long after that did his mentor fall from the illness, as did the people he knew and loved from his village as sickness swept over each poor, kindred soul.
Upon returning home to such a sight, Symon began penning his own last words. Page after page of nothingness slung into fire, ink spilled over half-spelled curses, quill-tip pierced through the tough parchment into his father's writing desk. Days passed into weeks and months, the sickly-sweet stench of rot invading the bed of crumbling lavender protecting the beak of his mask. Having adored the man so much in his early years of doctorhood, Symon wouldn't realize that his descent into madness was caused by his mentor's wicked desires--even if he had at the time, there would be no stopping his transformation. The Lich that had masqueraded as a well-to-do doctor, had taken a dirt-poor youth under his wing to teach him the practice of medicine, had crafted that same disease that would kill his corporeal body and take his protégé's life next.
And while Symon Knox unknowingly wrote out his last rites in his own hand, his body was changing to fit the mold he'd been given--the shape that the Lich had deemed worthy to house the fount of his unimaginable necrotic power. Four hundred years prior to present day, Symon Knox died at his writing desk, quill perched deftly in his left hand. Less than four days later he awoke, quill pierced through his gloved palm, with nothing writhing beneath his robes but the curse of rot and death. Blood drained to a pale-skinned touch he rose as a phantom of his true self, his blue eyes no longer clear but cloudy, his hair bleached to a cowardly white from the strawberry blond strands he inherited from his loving mother. Neither living nor a corpse, black vines twisted themselves into neat array over his skin like the fibres of muscle beneath it, only patches of pallour visible and even less with several centuries of rot between them. He may as well be nothing but a lich himself if not for that distinct craving for the true depth of his power, his knowledge lost but the presence of his master violently cramming itself into his brain--for four hundred years he must keep it out, keep it away, lest it overcome him in the absence of his psyche and steal away the last part of Symon he so desperately clings to.
Memories, emotions, senses, and functions trickle out over time, falling limp and blank and drawing to a close, but never quite reaching the point of dying. The body wants to die but Symon Knox rather wants to live, to see more out the polished glasses of his plague mask than he ever would as a young man dying of an incurable sickness. He may have died at twenty, but he lives to twenty-one every day--and although he never quite shakes the feeling of need, need to kill, need to die, need to watch the light leave their eyes, he's gotten quite good at shaking that voice loose and shoving it to the back of his mind. To find something else to fill it, that would do the job quite well....if only he had something to occupy every waking thought, someone so endearing he can't help but run them through his head every waking moment of every living day.

also!! this story has hit over 100k in words! i'm so so proud of myself for sticking with this despite the personal issues i've had and the way i've tended to push this to the back burner in order to pursue other, lighter fics. but i did it! and i hope ya'll like this new installment ♡

It was quiet as your trio made their way alongside a thick swath of buildings that made up what was once a town in the middle of nowhere, Nebraska. You were in a weird fog of instincts and antibiotics, your body on autopilot as it trudged on, a small figure in front of you and a large one in front of it. The sun was waning, dusk beginning to take over and shelter was needed.
“Are we gonna stop and check anything out?”
“Not today. Too quiet, haven’t seen so much as a bird within five miles.”
You remained quiet, your entire left arm aching in a way that only broken and growing bones could. It was torture, not having enough pain medication to take it regularly enough to stave off the feeling. The need to save it instilled deep into your psyche at this point. Save, hoard, hold, keep. For more serious things, for those you travelled with. For those you cared about.
“Don’t you want to stop? See if there’s anything we need or to sleep inside. It’s been forever.” Ellie turned around to face you, but her questioning halted as she took in the way you were barely picking up your feet, the slight sway to your head as you kept your eyes wandering to take in your surroundings. As she took in the blank look and the touch of suppressed pain behind your sharp eyes. She was whirling back around to face Joel’s back so fast that her hair swung and the sight of it made you a little dizzy and certainly a little nauseous.
“Joel.”
“No, Ellie, no quit askin’,” He turned his head to the side to aim a mild glare at her, not wanting to do this for the umpteenth time since leaving Kansas City. She had been quiet that first week, though she seemed to be coming back into herself more. “It’s dangerous here and the sooner you understand that, the sooner we can-“
His words trailed off as her own had done when he caught sight of you. The exhaustion clear even at a glance over his shoulder. You were up and walking, your eyes taking in the scene but there was the air of something that unnerved him surrounding you. You were sweating, the damp ring around the collar of your shirt a little too dark for the chill that permeated the days and even more so at night. Your skin looked sallow, almost waxy even from the distance he was at. He called your name and your eyes snapped to him, though he had a feeling it was more instinct that was driving you than actual awareness.
“You don’t-
“I know.”
“Maybe we should stop-“
“No, keep going.”
“You-“
“Keep. Going.” You frowned at him, the pull of your lips downward urging him to turn his head back around and focus on picking his way through the trees. “Get us away from the town, it’s obvious there’s people holed up somewhere around here. Seen traps strung up all around.”
“Next town.” Was all the man said as he continued on, pulling a map out from the inside pocket of his jacket. “It’s another twenty miles. We settle tomorrow. Take stock of things.”
“Go another hour and then we stop for the night.” You looked over your shoulder at the hush of something moving around in trees, moving around you. Your eyes landed on a wire, the leaves of a low hanging limb brushing against it in the slight breeze. “Fast.”
Joel picked up on the way your words had hardened, though had been spoken in a lower tone. He turned and his eyes followed to where yours were trained as you stayed right behind Ellie. The wire was easy to spot, to him at least and to you. It was a trip wire, low to the ground. His steps picked up and he kept an alert attention on the area in front of him, on the area he was leading you both through.
“Ellie, please be quiet until then.” You didn’t address her harshly or with any venom in your words. It was a whispered plea. She nodded, staying in her place between you and Joel as she continued to follow the man through the foliage.
Tumblr media
No fire was lit that night.
Protein bars were scarfed down despite the heaviness and grittiness of them.
You didn’t sleep and neither did Joel, both of you too anxious to do so. You had traveled another two hours instead of one, worried about a tail. Joel had done his best to cover your traps and you both had the same idea to make obvious tracks leading in the opposite direction of where you intended to camp for the night.
Come morning, you had finally felt the stress of yesterday wash over you. You were tempted to unwrap the bandages and check on your stitches but there was a pull on them that told you the scabbing was just right and would be okay for another day. You had sweat all through your underlayers as you sat up against the bark of a tree trunk. It was concerning the flashes of heat that worked over your body despite the chills that pebbled your skin. Fever. You made sure to take your next dose of antibiotics on time, eating a can of soup to help settle the heaving feeling that had settled over you.
No one asked for anything other than protein bars but hadn’t protested when you opened a can of something for yourself.
The day was slow, your feet dragging and heavy despite trying to overcome the lag you felt settling into your muscles. You and Ellie were currently waiting on the tree line on the outskirts of a gas station nestled on a dirt road that had been overgrown with kudzu. The plant was already such an invasive species and even more so now in the wake of everything. The thick, lush leaves of it a rich green as everything else began its annual deterioration. Autumn was here, the days shorter and the sun not as hot. Both a relief and a concern.
Once Joel deemed it safe enough, he waved you both over.
You found yourself being ushered inside, there was a cot in the back storage part of the store. Your pack was being pulled from your shoulders and the machete in your grip was being gently pried from you. You felt wide palms guide you down onto the cot, Joel kneeled down and place his hands on the top of your thighs. He caught your gaze and his brow furrowed, mouth frowning as he took in the state you were in.
“Darlin’, you really don’t look too good.”
“Fever. Antibiotics are doing the best they can but with this kind of break it’s a lot on the body.” You wanted to melt into his warmth, chills trailing down your back. You wanted to bury your face in the denseness of his chest, cradle your hands in the softness of his middle. To just lay atop him as if it was an easy, lazy Sunday morning in the time of Before. But that was a luxury you would never get to indulge in.
You could almost cry for the loss of it. For the opportunity that didn’t exist. For the softness that could be in the world as it was.
“I’ll go hunt, you need some protein to help. Ellie will keep watch, just rest.” He leaned forward and placed his chapped lips to your forehead in a comforting move. He looked as if he didn’t want to leave you side, his big brown eyes roving over you as you struggled to keep your head up. “I won’t be long and then you can sleep. I’ll come back to you, darlin’.”
“Copy that.” You whispered as you notched your head froward to place a kiss of your own to the corner of his mouth. He placed a parting kiss to the crown of your head, and you laid down atop the bed he had cleared of dust.
Tumblr media
You could hear Ellie’s small voice wavering in and out of your addled mind, spiking high in some instances but remaining at its typical volume, it was paired with the deep rumbling of Joel’s every so often. You weren’t sure what day or time it was, body caught in in fighting off the alternating heat that overwhelmed you and the chills that pebbled your skin. You were sweating profusely and your entire body was one big ache as your muscles tried to combat it. You felt your lungs burn as you panted, mouth parted as you tried to regulate some part of any of it, to no avail.
Everything was a blur for the next few days, colors and vision fading in and out, voices doing so as well.
That was when you heard the terrifying snarl that jarred you from the edge of your semi-consciousness.
It wasn’t human. It wasn’t even Infected.
“BEAR!” Joel’s shout shook through your entire body, your bones hurting from the fear that slammed into you. You were rushing to your feet before you could even think, stuffing what little had been removed from your bag back into the fabric and you pulled it tight, good arm yanking back with the force of the movement and stinging as the muscles flexed.
The sheathed machete found its rightful spot on your belt and you were out the door in a matter of moments, eyes desperately sweeping over open space in front of the gas station. Joel was nowhere to be seen but Ellie was just now breaking through the tree line and rushing toward you. Her expression was panicked and there was a bright flush to her face as she panted heavily. Her gun was in her hand but she wasn’t firing it or keeping it at chest height ready to aim if she needed to.
“Joel-“
“Old man’s okay. Snares were full and the fuckin’ thing came outta nowhere. He slammed into me and told me to get back to you.”
“Joel!” The fear in your voice was masked by the sheer volume of it. Your shout carrying over the dilapidated expanse of the road that was clinging to its former life. Ellie flinched beside you, the sudden volume catching her off guard and startling her badly.
“I’m sorry, gremlin.” Your good hand was going around her shoulder and pulling her to you in a loose embrace. Her hands slowly lowered from where she had raised them to cover her ears. “What direction did you come from?”
She was about to answer, her entire body buzzing as the adrenaline still washed over her in heavy waves but the loud rustling and sound of breaking tree branches had you both whipping around to face the trees to the right of the small clearing. Joel had barely made it past the last trees before he was knocked to the ground. His knees collided hard with the broken asphalt of the ground but he quickly tucked his body as small as it would go and he turned to aim his gun at the large shadow a brown bear was making over him. He fired two shots, but the bear swiped at him, and the gun went flying from his grip.
“RUN!” He didn’t dare chance a look over his shoulder as he scrambled to his feet, the bear being slowed down only minimally with its own instincts taking over. “Don’t even think of steppin’ in!”
Your heart was beating fast in your ribcage, body numb and on autopilot as you watched Joel stand to his full height. He chanced a glance over his shoulder as he scrambled after his thrown gun. The bear slumped to all fours, panting heavily as bubbles of blood fell from its mouth, saliva hanging down in long drooling lines. The bright red jarring.
Joel didn’t pause once the gun was picked back up, he fired another shot, but it seemed to anger the struggling predator and you were ushering Ellie ahead of you, Joel close on your heels. The trees rustled around your little trio as you ran as fast as you could. Ellie shouted out in surprise when the crashing of the bear sounded behind all three of you, with ear splitting growls and snarls.
Ellie’s sneaker caught on a root, and she started to fall, her hands shooting out in front of her to try and catch herself. You scrambled with your one good hand to grab the back of her jacket, but it pulled off from her shoulders and you let it go, not wanting it to come off her altogether without her pack on both shoulders.
“Fuck, Joel, I can’t help her!” You shouted, angry at yourself for not being able, for being injured and unable to provide anything for the group except extra work. She was trying to push herself back up but started whimpering as she did so. Joel ran past you and scooped her up into his arms with a worried look back at you, the crashing of trees getting louder as the bear closed the head start you had gotten.
“Just get her safe!” You shouted as you stood your ground and pulled your colt from the holster at your side. You started firing the second the bears dark color could be seen between the trees. It snarled at you as it continued to race toward you and you were switching the handle of the colt to the hand of your slung up arm, reaching for your machete and raising it high as you rushed toward the boulder that Ellie nearly hurdled into, getting a little more height to swing the blade down hard into the neck of the hurtling beast. It severed muscles and hit bone and the blade settled deep into the animal as it began to thrash in an attempt to loosen it.
It roared, the sound waning off into a choking gurgle as blood spewed everywhere. The drops that hit your skin were warm and it made your stomach roll. It fell to the ground, the weight of it kicking up dust and its paws twitched toward you as it took its final, wheezing breaths. The gun fell from your hand, the machete still embedded into the neck of the now dead bear in front of you. Your vision blurred, mind hazy as you realized how far in the trees you were and utterly alone.
You fell to your knees after stepping from the boulder. Breath coming out hard and fast, hurting as it pushed past your lips. You looked down at your injured arm, slung up with cloth tied around your shoulder.
Pain was searing and throbbing from a long scratch, a swipe from the bear you hadn’t even realized had made contact, too focused with burying your blade into the thing’s neck. It didn’t appear to be too deep, but it would take a while to heal, the sleeves of your shirt and jacket shredded. Suddenly your vision was filled with a blurry face. His brown eyes were glittering, and his face was moving as if he was talking to you but you couldn’t hear anything over the ringing in your ears.
You blinked a few times, trying to focus but realized it was because of tears that you couldn’t see properly, and you hiccupped as your breath stalled. You reached for him, with both hands, crying out at the pain that seared in your left arm with the action.
“Taylor, I’m so sorry. I don’t- it- it- I had to! I’m sorry I left the cabin-“ The hands you could feel on your shoulders stilled, the man in front of you freezing at your slurred words. Ears still ringing and tears still falling, you tried to catch your breath, but it was harder and harder to. The edges of your vision grayed out, your entire body feeling like a limb that had fallen asleep and suddenly you were falling to the ground as unconsciousness tugged you down. You couldn’t feel the arms that were helping to guide you gently to the ground.
“Uh, what the fuck?” Ellie reached out for Joel’s arm, spooked by literally everything that had happened today. Her emotions crested and she was tugging at his arm, shaking it to get the man’s attention. The look on her face was a mixture of so many things, but fear. Fear was the one he could see the most, so fresh. So easily identifiable because he had seen it merely a week before for the first time in such a glaring way that he could pick it out of her smallest ticks and facials twitches now. “Joel, what the actual fuck?”
“I-I don’t know.” He stuttered and felt like a damn fool for it. Feelings of failure bubbling up in his middle, threatening to take over his mind and his body, take him away to a plane of existence that was debilitating thoughts and emotions too much for him to handle. It was all encompassing, to be on that that plane, so far away from it all but his body remained in a world of death and destruction, of failure, of repeated scenarios that he could never make the right decisions in.
“She called you Taylor. Was she hallucinating?”
“Ellie, please. Let’s get her back to the building and we’ll talk.” He stood from his position where he had slid to his knees in front of you. Worry had him placing Ellie down without so much as a glance at the now dead threat before focusing on your shocked form. He leaned down and picked you up as best he could, but with a pinched expression he turned back to her. “Can-“
“I can stumble well enough, she’s unconscious, she needs more help.”
“I’m sorry, Ellie.”
“For carrying me away from an attacking bear when I tripped?”
“For…for not hearin’ it get close to us in the first place.”
“I didn’t hear it either,” She fumbled with the knife in her hands, unsure of what to do with the man’s undivided and sincere attention on her.
Tumblr media
You woke suddenly, with a deep gasp of air that startled both of your companions, who had just settled for the night. It was dark, but a lantern on the floor between them was enough to tell you they were okay.
“You’re okay, we’re okay. You did-“ He was up on his feet, standing beside the cot but looking for all the world as if he was afraid to reach toward you. His hands balling up into fists at his sides as he looked you over. “You did such a good job today, you protected us.”
“I-what?”
“…the bear?”
The silence that fell in the small room was heavy, weighted. You looked from Joel to Ellie, their eyes watching you. You took mental stock of how your body felt sluggish, your head a little dizzy, your left arm hurting from the very top to the very bottom, the entire length of it throbbing dully.
“…bear?”
“Shit.” Ellie’s worry was wrapped up all in that single word.
Your name in the air snapped you back to attention a little bit.
“Bear. Dream. Bad dream.”
“No, no, darlin’, that-“ Joel finally reached out to you, bringing your good hand between his own and you felt the warmth of his palms. “That was real. You don’t…you don’t remember?”
“It was real?” Joel didn’t like the realization that you had been so overcome by adrenaline and instinct that you don’t remember jolting from your sick bed and defending them in one of the most intense chain of events and didn’t even remember it. The devotion struck him close to his heart and all he wanted to do was pull you to him and hold you. Tell you what a good job you did, how sorry he was for forcing that out of you. For not being able to protect you in your most vulnerable state.
“I came running to you, do you remember that?” Ellie moved closer, standing from her sleeping bag she had been tucked into with a comic book. You watched as she limped toward you, the memory and phantom motions of reaching for her as she stumbled in front of you flashing through your mind and body. She reached her own hand out and placed it atop your knee. Comforting you in what ways she could. Joel guided the hand he held toward her own and he laid it atop her smaller one for you. He moved off to the side and retrieved his water bottle and set it in your lap.
“I- yes.” You gripped her hand tight in your own, fingers tangling with her smaller ones. “Joel carried you away because I couldn’t.”
“But you killed it.”
“Killed what?”
“…the bear?” Ellie tried again, to clear the fog in your mind.
“I’m not strong enough to kill a bear.” You huffed, getting annoyed at the merry go round of this conversation. “Not even strong enough to stand up without getting’ dizzy.”
“You shouldn’t be, but you did. You took care of us, and now we’re takin’ care of you, returnin’ the favor.” Joel stepped back into the conversation, seeing and sensing the confusion and annoyance flaring up in both of you as the conversation drew on.
“I didn’t kill a bear.”
“You did!” Ellie shouted, loud enough to startle you. She tore her hand from your own and went back to her sleeping bag. She rustled around for a second before coming back over to you and placed a giant fang in your hand. A bear canine. “You woke up out of whatever is goin’ on with you and you protected me, you protected Joel.”
“Oh.” Like it wasn’t the most important thing to happen today, like it didn’t mean everything.
Joel murmured quietly that you should eat, take another round of medication, and everyone should sleep. An hour later, food in your stomach that you still weren’t quite convinced was the bear you had killed earlier, and medicine dulling the pain and haze of your mind, you were back asleep with even breaths.
Joel and Ellie were quiet, the events of the day exhausting them but also worrying them.
“She-she called you Taylor.”
“She did, must’ve been in her mind.”
“But…you don’t look anything like him.”
“I – what?” Joel’s eyes snapped up to see her already looking at him, her small face scrunched up in confusion. “You been around this Taylor? He from the QZ?”
“He’s from the photos in her pack.”
“Ellie, you shouldn’t be snooping in people’s packs. What they keep in there is private.”
“She let me see! They fell out back in-in-“ She swallowed her words and took a shuddering breath. It took a moment for her to calm down. “When you were takin’ care of her nose bleed, they fell out of her pack and she let me see them.”
“Nosebleed…” A grunt sounded from him when he recalled the rather alarming moment back in Kansas City, as you all traveled underneath the city toward the hope of safety.
“He…he was important to her. She saw him in you.”
Such a simple statement, one that she had no idea of knowing would cause the beginning of the chain of events that it did.
“Everyone has someone that was important to them.”
“Like Tess?” She whispered, as if afraid to speak the name at normal volume.
“Like Tess.” He tried not to bark the words out, but they hurt his throat all the same. “Now sleep.”
Tumblr media
It was early morning and Joel found himself rustling through your pack for the first aid kit. He had sliced along his hand as he tried to carve more of the bear for a decent breakfast. He would kill for some eggs to go along with the meat, but he hadn’t had them in so long he was sure they would upset his stomach.
The photos Ellie kept talking about crinkled with his digging efforts and he ignored the allure of fishing them out. It was your business, it was your past, it was your…trauma. He had no business looking upon them until you wanted him to, and even then, he wasn’t sure he was brave enough to. Had the right to.
They flitted out, taunting him. He was staring at the backs of them as they laid out on the floor where he was kneeled beside the pack. The faded blood splatter bright to his eyes despite the age, he could only imagine how much havoc must’ve been happening for something as small as an instant photo to get covered.
“You can look at them.”
The man startled at your words, you hadn’t been completely asleep for a while now. Waiting quietly in the waning darkness of the room, watching as the sun began to rise and send faint light into the abandoned building. It was colder than it had been recently, the chill in the air only a taste of the winter to come.
He looked over to you, frozen in place with his hands deep in your pack and his shoulders tense.
“’s not my place.”
“Joel, if you want to, you can. I’m not forcing you but I’m not tearing them out of your sight either.”
“Darlin’, you’ve been through a lot the past few days. Don’t want to add to it by being nosy.”
“But you want to.”
“That’s not the point.”
“I carry things, same way you do.” You fiddled with your hands in your lap as you moved your legs slowly to dangle over the edge of the cot, feet on the ground. “It helps me to talk about them, sometimes. But I’m not asking the same from you. I would never make you face something you don’t want to.”
He reached out to take the photos from your hand, an offering. His hands shook as he did so, not sure why he was so afraid of the flimsy, worn film. When he turned them over, his heart stuttered in his chest and his fingers gripped them tightly. The bump of your stomach through the dress panging in a way he hadn’t anticipated. You looked so happy, just like he was sure he did in the photos he had left behind in his house all those years ago. More focused on the girl in his care, the life he had to protect at all costs, his whole life in the bright smile she would beam at him even if he felt like he didn’t deserve it.
“Raiders.” Was all you said as he shuffled through them. He felt guilt again at not being able to help Tess, to give her something good to reflect on. Surely he had brought something to her life, for her to have stuck with him all those years. Surely she would have remembered him fondly and not just the hardships and haze of drugs and the struggle of power they had been fighting both before and inside the QZ. He felt a lump form in his throat, emotions getting the better of him.
“I…it was my fault. I hadn’t covered up my tracks well enough one day. They found our cabin and they came at us with everything they had, for everything we had. I carry the same things you do.” Your whispered words had him carefully placing the photos back into your pack and reaching for your empty hands. He gave them a squeeze before asking for your help at patching up his injured hand.
Tumblr media
Snow had fallen during the night, prompting you to insist it was time to move far earlier than you normally would have. Busing yourself with setting up the small compact moka pot from your pack, you dug out the ash from the fire the night before. Joel had taken watch until around midnight, you taking over the second his head had hit the pillow and his even breathing sounded in the air alongside Ellie’s. She had insisted on being a part of the rotation, but you both vetoed it until further notice. She was still having nightmares, scrambling up at random times during the night with frantic movements to push someone who no longer existed off of her. Fighting, muttering under her breath, scared. Scarred.
Your ears took in the sounds of the crips morning, eyes tracking the pristine ground around your small set up. Joel and Ellie had instinctually moved toward one another in your absence from the sandwich you had created around her to keep her warm. You had donned a black beanie, giving her your other one that was a dark blue. They were insulated on the inside, lined with a once soft sherpa but it still did it’s job. Apologies had fallen from your lips at not having another for Joel but his hands intertwining with yours had been his way of calming you down, telling you he would be okay. That he wanted you both to be warm and he could go without until something came along.
You rinsed out the two thermos basins as best you could with snow, letting it melt inside over the fire before pouring it out off to the side. The splatter of hot water sizzling in the dusting that had begun to stick. Tearing open a packet of hot chocolate that had been hidden deep in your pack, you poured it into the chamber on the moka pot and placed it atop the makeshift frame over the fire. As soon as it began to rattle and bubble you poured it into Ellie’s thermos and moved on to put some of the ground coffee into the chamber, using your gloves as protection from the heated metal.
The two figures asleep behind you began to rouse, with little interaction, everything was packed up and they sat around the small fire to warm a bit before it was time to start the days trek.
Off in the distance, a log cabin sat on the frosty edge of the lake. It was the first sign of any type of human existence your trio had seen for days.

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
The sun was beginning to lower in the sky as you made your way to the couch. You smile as the scene before you seemed too good given the shit-hole of a world you lived in. You had a roof over your head, clean hair, several blankets surrounding you, a mug of tea, and music playing softly on the record player.
Ellie was out on patrol tonight and wasn’t expected to be back until early morning. You felt nervous spending the night alone but already felt like such a burden living in her home and her taking care of you. She would constantly be giving you reassurance opposing the very idea of being a burden but the fear was still there.
As you snuggle into the blanket nest you’ve made on the couch your mind wanders to the conversation you had with Ellie this morning. She had let you know that Tommy had found a place for you to live on your own but if you wanted to keep living with her that you could. It had been on your mind all day.
‘Do I want to live alone? I haven’t…ever lived alone? God, the very thought makes me nauseous. That’s so pathetic. Fuck this shouldn’t be such a hard decision-’ Your thoughts are interrupted by a knock at the door. You sit up, frozen, heart racing. Another knock sounds followed by a soft voice calling your name. Dina? You had gotten to meet her about a week ago but what was she doing at your door this late?
Walking to the door with a blanket around your body you open it to see Dina standing there.
“Hey! Can I come in? It’s freezing but I wanna ask you something!” She asks with a gentle smile.
Stepping aside, she walks in rubbing her hands over her arms to warm herself up.
“Uh…what’s up Dina?” You shift nervously on your feet.
She smiles warmly at you, “Jesse and I are planning on hanging out at the Tipsy Bison tonight. We thought we’d ask you to join us. I know Ellie is on patrol tonight and thought you might enjoy some company!”
“Oh! Um- I mean- I dunno. I mean, yeah? Yeah! I’ll join you guys.” You stutter out. Anxiety filling your body to the brim. It couldn’t hurt to go out. You had basically been a hermit the last few weeks anyway, only going out for some meals and to the medic building a few days ago to get your stitches removed. Besides Ellie won’t be back ‘till the morning anyway and you’d probably get bored soon just sitting around the house.
“Yes! Oh I’m so happy! I’ll wait outside for you to get dressed and we’ll walk over.” She grins in excitement, already easing your anxiety at her eagerness to spend time with you.
Changing into jeans and a long sleeve shirt, slipping one of Ellie’s hoodies over. Slipping on your boots you look into the small mirror, smoothing your hands over your hair anxiously.
‘Deep breaths! Just be cool. It’s not a big deal and whatever you do, do not mention your…injury.’ You give yourself a pep talk and before you can psych yourself out you swing the door open and step outside.
Walking over to the Tipsy Bison together, you two make small talk. You learn that Dina has lived in Jackson for about three years and that she and Jesse are dating. She asks about you and Ellie’s relationship and your face burns and you ramble out, “Relationship!? Oh, I- We aren’t- She just took me in because Tommy asked her too! I don’t- She’s not- I’m- I’m pretty sure I am more of a thorn in her side than anything.”
Dina looks over at you, giving you a knowing smile as you ramble. “I mean, if you insist! I see the way she looks at you and trust me, if someone is a thorn in Ellie’s side she…doesn’t hesitate to let them know. That girl has no filter and is the worst at hiding facial expressions.” She laughs out.
Before you can ramble out even more about what a pest you’ve been to Ellie you are walking through the doors of the bar. The building is warm, both in temperature and in ambiance. The room is dim with warm lighting, there is a large bar covering one side and tables and chairs made out of old wooden barrels along the opposite wall. There are a decent amount of people around causing your anxiety to sky rocket, still not being used to being around so many people all the time.
The two of you join Jesse at the table in the corner of the bar. Noticing that he has a game of scrabble ready to be played, your face lights up at the thought of playing a board game. You couldn’t even remember the last time you could enjoy something as simple as a board game.
“Shvitz is a word goddamnit! It’s a word! Twenty one points! Write ‘em down!” Dina shouts at Jesse.
“Fine! Fine but only because I am feeling kind…because it’s not a word.” Jesse concedes causing Dina to give him the middle finger. Dina leans over the table to watch and make sure Jesse gives her the correct amount of points.
You are laughing so hard that your cheeks hurt. The two of them had been arguing over every other word played and it never seemed to get old. Realizing that you're starting to get a small headache from laughing so hard you look over to the bar wondering if you should ask for water.
‘C’mon don’t be a baby. Just get up and ask!’ You think to yourself.
Taking a deep breath you rise up and walk over to an empty standing spot. Making eye contact with the bar-tender and giving him a small smile just to get his attention you patiently wait for your turn. Leaning against the bar and fiddling with your fingers, your shoulders square and a chill runs down your back and the sudden intrusion of your personal space. Turning around slightly you see a young man standing…way too close looking down at you. A smug smirk on his face.
Giving him a tight lipped smile you try to scoot past him abandoning the idea of getting water however he places his arm on the bar in front of you becoming painfully invasive of your personal space, that stupid smoke growing as if he won something.
“Excuse me…please move.” You mumble.
“Aw c’mon now. Don’t run off like a scared little kitten. I’m just tryin’ to talk to you.” He jeers.
‘Oh my god. Oh my god. Please just move.”
Giving an uncomfortable smile, not wanting to anger him, “I- I’m okay. Really.” You begin to take a step back but he places a hand way too low on your back.
“And what’s a little thing like you gonna do if I don’t, hm?” His voice takes a mocking tone.
“Please- Please just-” You are cut off by the man being violently shoved off of you. Gasping you press yourself against the bar as you see Ellie getting in the man's face.
“You put your fucking hands on her!? Huh!? Fucking answer me. You were so fucking cocky ten seconds ago!” She says inches from his face.
‘Ellie!? What the fuck!?’
You see her rear her hand back in a fist but before you can think you rush forward to stop her. This needs to stop, she got her point across. Grabbing the back of her jacket you pull her attention towards you.
“Ellie! Please stop. C’mon you got your point across. Please!” You say desperately.
As her attention shifts to you, her gaze softens into worry. Grabbing your hand she rushes out of the bar with you stumbling behind her.
Dina and Jesse are rushing behind you two.
“Ellie! Ellie, stop! What the fuck?” Dina is shouting at her.
As the four of you step into the cold, Ellie turns around keeping you behind her. You keep your head down feeling downright mortified.
“Me ‘what the fuck!? What the fuck were you thinking taking her out? Did you even see that sleaze touching her? Huh!?” She seethes.
You mumble out, “It’s not their fault Ellie please…”
Jesse steps forward holding a hand out to Ellie, “Christ, Ellie take a breath!”
“I just-” She takes a deep breath, “I just panicked okay? I got back from patrol early and she wasn’t home and I just panicked, okay?” She rushes out, regret settling deep in her bones.
Looking over at you apologetically Dina sighs, “We’re sorry for not seeing that creep. We just wanted to invite you out and really didn’t think some perv was gonna try something.”
Feeling so embarrassed you almost cry as you rush out, “Please! Please don’t apologize! I had so much fun, really.” Turning to look at Ellie, “I’m okay, I promise. Please don’t be mad at them Ellie.” You give your best puppy dog eyes to her.
Running a hand over her face, she huffs out a breath, “I can’t be mad when you’re looking at me like that…I didn’t mean to freak out. I didn’t mean to ruin you guys’ night either.” Regret laced in her tone.
“Can we hang out again tomorrow night! Please!” You ask everyone, hoping to ease the tension. Really hoping they agree so you can spend more time together. Feeling overjoyed at the feeling of normalcy that Jackson has given you. You got to go to a bar and play board games, never in your life did you think that you would be able to have that kind of fun.
The tension dissipates from the air as Dina grins ear to ear, “Of course, Tipsy Bison tomorrow at seven!” She beams with almost as much excitement as you.
As you both walk back to the house there’s a tension that lulls in the air. Neither of you can figure out what to say to the other. You bite your lip in anxiety and kick stones on the ground as you shuffle along.
‘Fuck it! Just say it! Say it!’
“I don’t want to live alone!” You rush out, your cheeks turning red, not giving her a chance to respond you ramble on, “I- I’ve never lived alone and- you make me feel safe and I- If you are totally sick of living with me I understand- so don’t hesitate to tell me-”
“I’d like that. For you to keep living with me.” She cuts off your rambling, making you look at her with wide eyes.
“Really?” You practically whisper. Not believing what you heard.
“Really.” She assures as she unlocks the front door.
You toe off your shoes and flop down on the bed and she leans on the edge of her desk, fiddling with her fingers. Silence falls over the two of you again.
Feeling confident at Ellie’s lack of rejection of your confession, you take a deep breath and move to stand in front of her. Upon sensing your movement she glances at you as you step forward and take her face in your hands, pressing your lips to hers.
She stills for a second before returning the kiss with fervor. Placing her hands low on your waist she pulls you flush to her body. She runs her tongue along the seam of your lips, asking for entrance and you give it to her without hesitation. Ellie’s grip on your waist tightens as she begins to stand, lips still molded onto yours. Needing air you pull back, not expecting her to keep kissing across your cheek and down your jaw you whine. She lets out a chuckle at your sound and guides you backward, bodies still pressed together.
The back of your knees meet the bed and you fall onto it with a small gasp. She pulls back, leaning over you with her hands on either side of you, she presses her forehead to yours.
“I want to keep you safe.” She whispers, almost as if she’s afraid of what she’s saying. Placing your hands on either side of her jaw you look into her eyes.
“I’d really like that.” You whisper back.
