She watched Carla make her way to the side of her bed, she placed the green laundry basket on the ground, and climbed onto the bed.

|Ch. 3 PART 1: Kidnapped| Her Forgotten Past //AOT fanfic//

~A/N~ The sass in this omggg. Btw... YES, this is a slow burn ship. It’s gonna be one hell of a ride 👀🌹

The desert around us was harsh and unforgiving. My mouth felt like sandpaper, but I already had a turn with the water canteen, and I didn't want to be that one annoying and needy person, so asking for more was out of the question.

Brief explanation as to why we were in a desert traveling with horses: Instructor Shadis rounded us up this morning and told us we were doing a special kind of training today. He split all the cadets into two groups, and gave each group horses and a map. We were to make a trip to a specific destination, meet up there, trade information about the trip, and then split again and return back to the training camp. Simple, right?

Thats what I thought too. But the second I was placed into my group I knew this would be a pain in the ass. Here's who was in my group: Armin Arlert, Marco Bodt, Mina Carolina, Sasha Braus, Connie Springer, Krista Lenz, and the ever so classy Eren Jaeger and Jean Kirschtein.

Those last two started bickering the moment we left.

"So we're not allowed to rush?" Marco asked. Sweat beads rolled down his forehead.

Armin shook his head, looking at his pad and pencil to write down our progress. He was given the role of record-keeper. He basically had to give a non-biased and honest record of our struggles and advantages during this training. Him and I stuck together at the front of the group with our horses. I was given the role of leader, which was in truth my worst nightmare. I'm better at taking care of myself. That's the way it's always been. I don't want people to expect stuff from me, and I certainly didn't want to be held responsible if something goes wrong. Besides... the last thing I wanted to do was babysit Jean and Eren.

"We'd be stupid if we did rush." Jean said with a yawn. He obviously didn't plan on taking this training seriously. "We can take our time."

Here we go, I thought.

"You don't know your lower limit." Eren said and scoffed. "If you're taking it slow, then I'm going ahead." He tapped his horse's side and trotted faster.

"But the formation of the group..." Marco tried to argue. He looked at Jean as if to say 'Do something!'.

Jean clicked his tongue. "Like I care! Extra effort here won't get me into the Military Police."

I sighed. 30 more kilometers to go... I wasn't sure if I could take any more of this.

Tap, tap, tap! The horses' hooves wasn't the only noise in the area. We all looked to our right, and saw a fairly large lizard amongst some rocks. It appeared to be following us.

"Looks like that lizard's joining us on the same path." Jean said.

"They're pretty rare." Marco commented.

"They're delicious, you know!"

We all looked at Sasha quizzically. The girl seemed to know exactly what she said, though. "They are!" She said, positive. "My family and I used to eat them. They taste like chicken!"

"What haven't you eaten..." I muttered. Armin heard and he suppressed a laugh.

"You can cook?" Jean asked Sasha.

"Of course. Piece of cake!" She said.

"Alright, then!"

Next thing I know, Jean raced past me on his horse, galloping towards the lizard.

"Oi!" I yelled. "You're breaking the formation, Kirschtein!"

He looked back over his shoulder. "If hunting for food is part of this training, then what's better than getting that lizard?"

This was precisely what we didn't need. Distractions. What's worse is Eren went after him, making the situation even more burdening. Now I had two idiots chasing a stray animal.

"Damn it, Jaeger!" I said and pulled the reigns on my horse, going after them. What did I do to deserve this? If only I could've been placed in Annie's group...

Jean drew out his ODM blades once the lizard was within reach. He smiled hungrily and brought his blade down, but only to produce a sharp clink sound. It had come in contact with Eren's blade instead. The lizard scuttled away, probably grateful that it had been protected.

An argument formed between the two. I dismounted my horse and marched up to them, hands on my hips.

"This isn't a game!" Eren told him.

"We don't even have an Instructor!" Jean said. "This so-called training isn't getting us anywhere!"

"Drop it! You're acting like brats." I said angrily.

"Look who's talking..." Eren mumbled under his breath, not making eye contact, but I still heard him clearly.

I folded my arms. "You wanna say that louder, Jaeger?"

Tensions were riding high. Marco also dismounted his horse, walking up to us. "Guys, we need to stop! If we continue this it'll have to be recorded. Don't write anything yet, Armin!" He said.

The pencil trembled in Armin's hand. He looked torn between his duty and his friend's wishes.

"Write down 'Jean Kirschtein tries to get food during the training, but gets interrupted by Eren Jaeger.' " Jean told him.

Eren gritted his teeth. "You bastard."

"Don't talk to him like that." I said.

"Why not?"

"Because I said so. Now shut up."

"Make me."

"ITS DELICIOUS!"

We all jumped. With incredulous faces we turned to look at none other than Sasha. Her mind was obviously somewhere else, still fantasizing about the lizard who was probably long gone by now.

I stand by my case... this girl definitely needs help.

Eren's eyes landed on me again. "Listen, I don't know what you have against me. Is it because you're friends with horseface, here?" He gestured to Jean.

Jean turned livid. "What did you say?"

"Of course not! I have a mind of my own. You clearly have something against me. Drop the macho act for once. Or are you still butthurt that I beat you in hand-to-hand combat?" I shot back.

Eren seemed to recall the event, and his cheeks turned a deep shade of pink. He was at a loss for words. The others stared at us in disbelief, a few of them snickering.

"Eren, is that true?" Connie asked.

"Wow." Jean said, evidently trying to contain his laughter.

"And why are you guys so surprised?" I snapped, and seeing the look on my face, the teasing ceased immediately. It was replaced by an awkward silence. I sighed deeply, feeling a migraine coming on. I looked to the sky and checked the position of the sun. Afternoon. We were wasting time.

"From now on, you guys listen to me. Got it? No chasing after lizards, no sidetracking— nothing. Is that understood?" I said strictly.

They all nodded, Eren a little reluctantly.

"Let's get moving."

* * *

Five hours later we were all huddled around a fire, our sleeping bags stretched out on the ground and our horses tied to nearby trees, helping themselves to some wild grass while we helped ourselves to canned rations. The overall mood was dull and humdrum. My eyes blinked slowly as I sat on a log, blanket thrown lazily over me, chin supported on my hand, watching the dancing flames.

"So this is what squad rations taste like..." Jean droned, picking at his canned food with distaste.

Sasha sighed. "It would've been better if we caught that lizard."

"Enough." He said immediately. "I've heard enough about lizards."

Just as I'd expected, Eren spoke up. "Weren't you hunting one just now?"

I rolled my eyes. One of these days, I'm sure, I'm going to roll my eyes so hard that I'll go permanently blind. And who will I blame? These two idiots.

Jean tossed away his half-eaten stale bread, a sign that he was officially fed up. Mentally. Not physically, which was another contributor to his bad attitude. Everyone shared exhausted looks, knowing what would come next. "Well, we are supposed to hunt titans." He said.

"And what do you mean by that?" Eren shot back. They both stood up and glared at each other. "Why did you even join the Training Corps?!"

"To live something better than a humble life, at least!"

The brunet's lips curled into a sneer. "Some things can be tolerated, others can't!"

I ran a hand through my hair, wondering how the other group was getting along, and if they had encountered any problems. I saw Armin grab his pencil and pad worriedly as the argument continued, but I made no effort to stop him. Marco did.

"Oh, come on, Armin. It's just a chat during mealtime!" The freckled boy tried to persuade him.

As if that was going to convince anyone. It only got worse.

"You think that when a real Titan shows up the results of training will pay off?" Jean scoffed. "Good luck to—"

Eren lunged at him, fisting his collar. "That's enough from you!"

They ensued a brawl, shoving and aiming for punches.

"Stop it!" Krista cried out.

"H-how about we actually hunt lizards instead?" Sasha suggested nervously. "You'll feel better after that!"

Are you kidding me? Enough. I grabbed a signal flare from my belt and didn't hesitate, aiming and shooting straight at Jean and Eren. The popping sound made them jump apart just in time to avoid the green jet of smoke. It zoomed between them and past the trees, deep into the forest. There it goes..., I thought, wasted. But wasted well.

Everyone turned to look at me, startled. I stood up and ripped the blanket off me indignantly, throwing it to the ground. I saw Eren gulp as I approached him and Jean, pointing at them with the now empty flare canister. "That's it. Im done with you two and your never-ending fights." I said angrily, "Look at yourselves! You should be ashamed. Everyone else is doing a great job at participating in this training. Everyone. Even Sasha!"

"Hey!" Sasha said, pouting.

Admittedly, I didn't really think that last part through. "Sorry," I told her, and returned to scolding Jean and Eren. "But seriously.... You two are bringing us down. I'd grade everyone else an A and you guys would be the only ones with a fucking F. Especially you, Jaeger." I looked at the tan, teal-eyed boy. "You're constantly criticizing Jean for not contributing fairly to the group and yet you make things worse by starting petty fights! The damn titans are outside the wall, not here! So why fight your comrade?"

By the time I was done there was only a shred of pride left in his expression. He was no longer vexed. In fact, by the way he looked down at his feet, I'd say he was realizing the truth in my words.

"Heh." Jean folded his arms.

"And don't get me started on you," I slapped his shoulder. He yelped. "You're no better than him! So stop acting all high and mighty. We all want comfort and idleness, Jean. Hell, I want to get into the Military Police too. But I'll let you know," I jabbed at his chest. "They don't accept slackers."

Silence. The others shared looks of second-hand embarrassment.

"I need a break." I said and spun on my heel, walking off and away from our camp setup, leaving them behind.

I didn't know how long it had been since I left them. At first I only meant it to last a couple minutes, but sitting now besides my horse, a stunning caramel and white-spotted colt, I figured they were all probably asleep. The moon provided soft, gentle and soothing rays of light amidst the enshrouding darkness of the forest. It was quiet here. Quieter than it could ever be in our group. Maybe I could just stay here, sleep, and return to them in the morning. Maybe I'll apologize to Jean and Eren for losing my temper. Maybe.

I stroked my horse's well-groomed coat, resting my head against his muzzle, listening to his peaceful, rumbling breathing. Perfection. My mind and body relaxed and I felt myself drift into sleep. Listless... unbothered...

Unguarded.

Then my horse started to act up. The creature's breathing became rough and alert, nostrils flaring. It was when he started jerking his head that I finally woke up, bleary eyed and confused. "Whoa boy," I hushed, trying to calm him down. "What is it?"

A twig snapped. I sensed a presence behind me and my blood ran cold. The second I turned around a large rifle bashed the side of my head mercilessly. The last thing I remembered was wincing and touching the injured spot, bringing my hand down to see red on my fingers, and losing consciousness.

SnK 104 Thoughts

Hey Galliard.

Hey. Hey. Galliard.

LET’S SEE YOU GRIT THOSE TEETH.

We’re reaching the end of this arc segment, and I think the relief is making it a little easier to appreciate all the things happening. ...I mean it would, if anything remotely positive were still going on in this world.

Wait, Falco’s alive.

Okay team, there’s still hope.

I’m still having trouble working out why all of this is the chosen strategy. Paradis has caused an incredible amount of destruction, and disposed of most of the top brass, so looked at from an Us vs. Them situation, as long as the Scouts and Eren make it out okay, this is a pretty successful operation. It’s going to take some time for Marley to chase after their island with all the devastation.

What’s the score? The harbor, a bunch of surrounding cityscape, plenty of the interment zone, most of their top brass, and... let’s call it four Titans.

The frustrating part is that I’m having a really difficult time working out the scale of it all. In every section of this battle that we’re shown, Paradis has won somewhat easily. But I don’t know how large Marley is. Magath and Willy are willing to offer up the internment zone and all of the talking heads inside of it in order to gain allies in their offensive. They were ready for Eren. They were not ready for their Titans being out of reach, and they were not ready for Armin.

Since Eren’s decision to play along as the villain of Willy’s story, I’ve been sulking and wondering what the endgame is. What’s the point of playing right into Marley’s publicity stunt? What’s the point of making yourselves look so bad when your only contact with the outside world has been self-defense?

Reading this chapter, it’s hard not to think, “what’s the point of standing back when you know you can win?”

(Even though they’re all so very screwed if their escape blimp plan gets derailed. Like. Their eggs have 1 (one) assigned basket. And Eren’s already nearly died several times during this mess. Dun dun dun.)

And I’m not sure how much of that is a sign that Paradis has landed a fatal blow against Marley, and how much is just... here’s where our focus has been. In a very tiny corner of the world, Paradis has the upper hand.

Marley, unlike the rest of the antagonistic world, fights wars with Titans. The lowercase ones too. In this battle, they have lost two of them, one with the unique ability of controlling ravenous hordes of cannon fodder, one with the unique ability of making very kickass weapons.

What they’re left with is Reiner, Galliard, and Pieck. None of them in a state where they are a dominant force.

Magath wants Marley to enter a world where their military strength isn’t determined by Titans, but you can’t change that overnight. Their greatest trump cards have all been beaten or stolen away. In terms of Titan strength, Paradis wins right out. Marley has the numbers to win a siege war, but that isn’t the war being fought at the moment.

A few things are happening with this battle. One (the most annoying, being something Willy and Magath plan to exploit), Paradis is doing a fantastic job of selling themselves as the demons everyone calls them. Two, they’re making it clear who wins in a battle of Titans (however dicey things are during the fight, Paradis is leaving (hopefully) with three of Marley’s Titans horrifically maimed, one MIA, but presumed dead, and one actually dead). Three, they’re leaving a country that the whole world has bad experiences with in a very vulnerable position.

Marley might be putting work into making Paradis the scapegoat, but the night they declare war Paradis stomps every weapon they have faith in. Ambassadors from other countries get along with Willy, less so with Marley. One night of sympathy for the Eldian plight their buddy Willy has gone through isn’t going to change that.

The hope in the aftermath of this might be that Paradis has proven itself too dangerous to be left alone, so other countries will gladly work with Marley to stamp them out of existence, but... I’m wondering a little if those other countries might be more interested in wiping out their known enemy before turning their attention to the island. Marley has zero good will built up.

Ugh, I don’t know. Thinking about all the different ways people could respond to this makes my head hurt. Especially since Paradis does have links with other countries now, and that makes it harder to get the Beauty and the Beast mob song going.

And again there’s the question of scale. Which is really just me questioning how many Erens Armin just pulled, and how many Erens it would take duplicating to raze all of Marley to the ground. Armin’s feat is obviously destructive, but.

Fuck it, I want five pages of next chapter devoted to graphing out population and military personnel of Marley. With real numbers. The sixth page can provide Paradis’.

Has this operation hamstrung Marley as badly as their morale makes it feel like, or not? That’s all I want to know. Acceptable sacrifice vs. monstrous horrifying mass murder of horror is easier to parse out when the mission objectives and accomplishments are written in plaintext.

...It’s obviously going to end up being both anyway. I still feel really lost.

In character land, where things are slightly simpler, Armin’s having his own version of Eren and Reiner’s conversation. If Eren and Reiner are the same, so are Armin and Bertolt. That’s... oy.

I complain a lot about action chapters because I always feel like I just want to watch the anime version and get on with it without turning over every rock, but some of the complaining comes from really, really wanting to get back to the sad monologuing about feelings everyone in this series is prone to indulge. Hell, pull a Naruto and let everyone get a significant backstory flashback when it looks like they’re in mortal danger.

Armin’s from Shiganshina. Ground zero of this war. He’s one of a small percentage of people who lived through watching Wall Maria’s destruction. He’s standing right there when everything their people have known is annihilated.

Bertolt also burns him to death. Basically.

Now Armin’s the one holding all that power in his hands. He kills people and takes away their homes just by taking a few steps.

The good news is that he knows he has an expiration date, so he can look forward to that instead of seeking therapy to help him later in life.

...

Yeah, there is no good news. Let’s pan back to Falco, who is breathing and somehow showing more signs of mental stability than Gabi.

Kid’s made of some stern stuff. If Eren’s betrayal doesn’t completely shatter him, he might be able to make a bright future for himself if he stays alive. He’s compassionate and doesn’t freeze in a crisis.

Unlike some people.

Nah, that’s mean.

From the looks of things, whether it’s Pieck’s interference or Jean’s own heart getting in the way, Jean’s mind was absolutely prepared to kill the little boy if that meant removing the Cart Titan from play. I don’t know if he tried to arrange a shot that would dodge Falco, but I do think that he accepted that there was a good chance the kid would die in the crossfire, and went for it anyway.

This series was so much happier when people were getting eaten alive.

Well. You know what I mean.

I’m glad Pieck’s alive, even if it’s only for now. Truthfully, I don’t think I want any of the Warriors to die. Their lives have been hell. I want to think that someday, all of the Eldian kiddos get to breathe free air without being a tool of war. If they die, it’s just another footnote to a sad story.

Then we have Galliard, who.

I thought Eren would be done horrifying me after the civilian slaughter. I mean, where else can we go from there? Dead children hit one of the highest tiers of tragedy. Maybe more of them will fall out of the cracks, and surely the psychological trauma of individuals like Reiner will continue to be bad, but we’re done with any of it being shocking.

Points for... pragmatism?

“Aha, I have cracked the case, if not the crystal! Hark, I shall have Jaws crack the crystal, and I shall drink up this woman’s juices as they drip from his teeth while he silently screams at me to stop!”

I mean. If you think about it.

I have been calling the Warriors tools for ages.

Eren using Galliard as his own personal nutcracker is really only the natural evolution of that.

Yike.

I’m surprised Reiner’s already up and about. It makes sense that it’s to protect Galliard (Porco is going to have so very many issues when he wakes up), because protecting people is the one thing the world hasn’t broken inside of him. Even after all he’s been through, he still wants to be the good guy, keeping his comrades safe.

But the dude’s dead inside. He has the strength to stand, but not much else, and I don’t know how the story can lead him into anything dynamic when he’s so screwed up.

Also of curiosity is... Eren’s perfectly willing to nom Galliard. Reiner shows up, gets punched maybe a building length away, is very obviously in no state to win any kind of fight, and Mikasa and Eren walk away.

All of the other Titans are removed during the festival by strategy. Pieck and Porco get dumped down a hole. Zeke is probably working with Eren, and he’s still escorted out.

Reiner gets a conversation.

Reiner’s participation in Eren versus War Hammer would have turned the tables. The only reason he isn’t part of it is because his conversation with Eren robs him of his final will to live.

So uh. ...Eren? Not to be rude or question your moral character or basic sanity... but... I don’t know... how, uh, on purpose is Reiner’s current emotional state?

...On a related note, is that your way of keeping him alive? ...Am I. Am I going to have to start shipping you two seriously?

This has the feel of something else I’m going to find easier to discuss in later chapters, but looking at the last few pages... Eren has the chance to kill Reiner and Galliard. He definitely has no problem nomming Galliard. What changes? Reiner caring about Galliard?

Eren easily could have taken out two of Marley’s Titans, and he chooses not to. It’s a decision Mikasa is either fine with or encourages. I don’t quite know what to make of her very excellent stoic face after Eren punches Reiner. She goes from that to zooming over all “Eren!” and... does that mean killing Reiner has been judged the wrong decision all around? What’s with the interruption, you two? Is that closeup of Eren’s eyes on the opposite page just there to look pretty, or is something going on?

Look, you’ve killed everyone else in the general vicinity, I’m allowed to wonder what makes this special. What, Eren can see his sparkling eyes when his face isn’t armored up and can’t handle the dokis?

Geez, this was a chapter.

Next month we get to see how great the great escape is--only guarantee is that there is no escape from the monsters in their heads.

...I’m with Mikasa. Can we go home now?

There was an increase of strong NOPES with 6.5% rating this chapter a 1 verses .07% for chapter 95, but otherwise like last month, the majority gave the chapter a favorable rating.

With every chapter focusing on the Warriors, they steadily climb the list of some of the greatest characters I've ever had the pleasure of reading about. I love everyone in this manga, but the complexity, moral ambiguity, and tragedy of these three just continues to astound me. No matter how this manga concludes and no matter how imperfect AoT is as a whole, I applaud Isayama for writing some of the best antagonists I've ever seen.

Warriors background and sob story is always good to see. However, I do want a bit more progress in the story. I can wait a bit longer to see Paradis cast.

96 is probably the highlight of Marley focus so far, and is a well deserved title. It honestly never crossed my mind for some reason that we would see the opposite side of the attack on Paradis, and it did surprise me with how much of a rush and danger it was for RBA.

I liked the other chapters better since they weren't all about flashbacks; they had a nice mix between current and previous events

This is honestly all I've wanted to see from the beginning of the series. No matter what happens after, I'm really glad we got to see the other side of that fateful day. Also, I love how clear the parallels between the two trios were, because that's something I've found incredibly powerful in this series, but it's never really been this clear before. I find it tragically beautiful just how similar EMA and RAB are, and yet one trio has hope of a happy ending while the other's been doomed from the start.

This chapter made me think a lot of Draco Malfoy. I mean the trio and him both were brainwashed and raised to think lies. They were just children caught up in situations they coulndt understand well. It made me feel very sad.

I wonder how the Tybur family knows about the First King's Will. Either he made the vow before traveling with the Eldians to Paradise, or the Tybur family infiltrated the Walls somehow.

It was interesting to see these events unfold through the long-awaited perspective of Reiner, Bertholt and Annie. I liked how they showed those three kids having more humanity. Seeing Bertholt hesitate and Annie cry gave another dimension to their character.

I've said it before but the new shots of Bertholdt looming over the wall were so fucking incredible. When it gets animated, I hope this moment be silent, no bgm, nothing. It would make it more memorable.

The fact that this chapter is called "Door of Hope" may suggest that RBA's time having their worldview expanded will eventually lead to hope. Reiner may turn on Marley in the end, and Annie's character definitely isn't loyal to Marley. I don't think either would work for Paradis if they had a choice, but since Paradis *is* directly opposing Marley, I suspect we'll have a "enemy of my enemy is my friend" situation. For Annie at least. If Reiner switches, I think it'll be in some great final act. :'(

Reignar's motivation for joining the military was done really well, and I love how complicated of a situation he's been in...

I've been a fan of getting the Marley perspective and was really happy to see Annie again, but this chapter felt like it was more of everything we already knew. It didn't add emotional stakes, it didn't add to the plot, it contributed to the abysmal pacing. I realize that we can't fully judge the manga until it's complete but the fact is, this is a monthly manga, and Isayama should take that into consideration when pacing the story. Focusing entirely on a flashback this chapter felt like a really poor narrative decision, especially since while it gave us feelings it didn't add any the last chapter didn't also give us. I know Isayama is a master of the long game so maybe I'm wrong and this was an important chapter, but it certainly didn't feel like it. It feels like he's trying too hard to make us feel for the warriors, but the previous chapters already accomplished that.

I expect SC to come back in Chapter 99. With the festival upcoming, I expect two volumes of Warriors before returning to out niggas on Paradis. Also, it's Reigner, not Reiner.

This arc need to step up its pace. It's good that we had all this new info but the story is so slow!

Disappointing overall. Little useful new information. The part about stealing the backstory was interesting but not significant. No plot advancements, no new mysteries, no present day action, and we all guessed accurately how the wall fell from RBA's perspective. IMO a pointless chapter, and the Marley arc has dragged on for almost a year now (no problem with Marley focus, it's just been very slow). Could/should have been done differently (include Walldians learning about Marley along w/us readers, include Warriors other than Reiner)

I finally fully enjoyed reading a chapter of this Marley arc, even if it's just a flashback... but i reeeeeeeeeeaaaaaalllly wish to come back to the original cast POV. I miss them, i wanna see them, i would sell my soul to see them. Also i think Isayama made a wrong choice doing this Marley arc now, after the timeskip, if he had done this before the fandom probably wouldn't react as the way they did (missing EMA and Veterans). I mean, after the longest time skip ever, after the most loved/hated arc with huge changes to some characters, Isayama just change the view to another characters not showing us anything of what happened. Also with this guidebook we could see that things have changed with the original cast, mainly the relationships that before were strong but at this moment we don't know fully (Like i seriously saw the EMA split apart reading this guidebook, a thing that i didn't wanted to happe, but at the same time i wanted because is interesting af. Or Levi miserable after Erwin death... Because I see all the recent Annie content as the most obvious foreshadowing of her return to the plot, that begs a new question. In Stohess, she tried to run away, not take Eren, and just get back to her father. She crystallized with that stuff in mind, she seemed ready to abandon her mission, so when she inevitably wakes up will she still have that same mindset? I think this whole thing could set up an interesting change for her character. Whether she joins the Walldians or not, she finally gets a chance to break away from the flow and suffer or thrive based on the outcome of (probably) the only time she's allowed to choose something in her life.

Loved seeing how Annie really felt about the mission outside of the hometown and ideologies. Also heart breaking to see Reiner trying so hard to make the mission work only to end up losing the only other two who understood him best in the end.

I was hoping we would get the Tyber family's festival, and there Amputee-kun would reveal his identity. However, after seeing this chapter, I realized how important and interesting the Fall of Wall Maria is in the warriors' point of view. I'm glad we got this chapter.

idk if it has a name but I was like the sweet quiet one that was kind to pretty much everyone. like the krista of the school pretty much aha. like I remember one day I was helping the school sell chocolates and my friend wasn’t going to but she said I was too cute to say no to ahaha aw I miss the days at school when I wasn’t ridden by mental illnesses rip

oh my gosh ok it’s levi but I’m gonna use this to write about the beautiful rare pair that is moburi haha

when moblit isn’t busy making sure hange is still alive and breathing, he and levi chill out together. they bond over their love but stress and concern over hange. levi drinks tea whilst moblit drinks coffee (which is more than often mixed with some alcohol) while they chat and unwind with the other. they’ll often light heartedly complain about the day they had or something

levi admires moblit’s artistic skill (he literally in canon calls them masterpieces) and likes to just quietly watch him sketch or doodle. as someone with little to no artistic skill he finds it fascinating to watch how effortlessly he can bring something to life. it’s also very soothing and relaxing for him. it takes both their minds off of things or on whatever it is moblit is drawing

moblit at first was flustered by this because of the amount of attention he was getting and the pressure of not messing up because someone is watching. soon enough it became routine for them and moblit could truly relax around levi as he drew

if levi finds moblit drinking on his own (which is quite common) he’ll often join him and work on paperwork as it has no effect on him while they silently enjoy each other’s company

A Foolproof Plan

Rating: G -T; for comic mischief.

Pairing: EreAni, Eren x Annie. Hints of other pairings.

Summary: How would Annie Leonhart ask her date to the Sadie Hawkin’s Dance? Here’s how! (No guarantees that it will all go smoothly… especially when your friends are idiots.)

A/N: I love the RBA trio. Btw, this is slightly crack lol. That is all.

“Have you asked anyone to Sadies yet?”

If Annie Leonhart had to hear that question one more time…

Shiganshina High School’s Annual Sadie Hawkins’ Dance was but a week away.

All of her buddies had successfully asked their dates. Sasha was going with Connie, asking him after one particularly heated night of karaoke. Mikasa and Armin were going as friends, the crafty usage of a fortune cookie ultimately sealing the deal. Krista asked Reiner before first period with the help of a few others, each wearing t-shirts spelling out: S-A-D-I-E-S-?

Krista insisted on being the question mark.

Ymir coerced Bertolt using a charming combination of cleverly arranged Hershey’s kisses and brute force, putting on a show for everyone after his basketball game.

Someone managed to record the entire spectacle and upload it on YouTube. The video had over a hundred thousand hits last time Bertolt checked, lowkey dying of embarrassment but happy to have a date to the dance nonetheless.

At first, Annie was unsure if she even wanted to go, but her friends just wouldn’t give her a break.

“Come on, Annie!”

“Don’t be lame!”

“You have to go!”

The crew continued egging her on for the next couple days, reminding her that her crush had yet to be asked.

“I heard Eren doesn’t have a date yet.”

“You should ask him.”

“Do it!”

Annie was surprised Eren hadn’t been asked by anyone. When she mulled it over, the hints he kept dropping her at lunch made it seem as though he was waiting for her to ask him.

Hints within the realm of: “Wow, it sucks that I haven’t been asked to Sadies yet!”

And: “So I heard you haven’t asked anyone yet, Annie. Interesting…”

The real kicker: “Just so you know, Annie, I’m not doing anything Friday. Huh. That’s funny. Friday just so happens to be Sadies! What a coincidence, right?!”

Okay, okay. It was pretty obvious what he was trying to convey.

But how was Annie Leonhart going to play this out?

Everyone else had asked their dates in such cute and clever ways.

Mikasa practically went out of her way to ask Armin! A fortune cookie with the proposal written on the little piece of paper inside. A fortune cookie! A fortune cookie? Like, who does that?!

Sasha went all out with her Karaoke plan, stealing Connie’s heart by crooning away with songs like ‘Baby Come Back,’ and ‘Do Ya Think I’m Sexy.’

Krista had planned her proposal weeks in advance, ordering the special-made t-shirts ahead of time.

Ymir was going to be hard to top. No doubt, she made Bertolt an offer he couldn’t refuse, given her persuasive methods. It’s hard to say ‘no’ when a hottie with more sass than freaking Deadpool has you in a near chokehold and throws Hershey’s (and then literal) kisses all over your face.

In front of everyone at a varsity basketball game.

Annie was never the super competitive type, but she didn’t want to seem lazy either.

She couldn’t let her friends show her up, especially since it was their senior year.

It was do or die. Now or never. All or nothing.

This was it. Today was the day.

Annie Leonhart was ready to ask Eren Jaeger to the Sadie Hawkin’s Dance!

The only thing left for her to do was to time this out right. For now, she’d have to be quiet and remain perfectly still.

With the help of Reiner and Bertolt, she devised a foolproof plan, needing only a large cardboard box and a bag of gumballs.

Said bag of gumballs were in her hands. As for Annie, she was hiding in the giant cardboard box, carried delicately by Bertolt and Reiner as though they were handling a sort of ‘package.’ Seeing as how she only weighed around one hundred and ten pounds, she may as well have been a feather; no match for the muscular arms of her assistants.

The plan was for Reiner and Bertolt to ‘deliver’ the box containing the petite Annie to Eren’s house and from there, before Eren could open it- Booyah!

She’d burst open from the inside and surprise him!

Such a genius, she was!

Annie could make out a few distinct sounds from her position inside the box, readying herself mentally when she heard Reiner ring the doorbell to Eren’s house.

The door opened, followed by a slightly audible conversation.

“Reiner? Bertolt?” Eren looked back and forth between the two in confusion. “What are you guys doing here?”

Bertolt was sweating nervously, as usual. Reiner had the biggest shit-eating grin plastered on his face.

“Special delivery for Eren Jaeger.” Reiner had one hell of a hard time suppressing a hearty laugh. It was making his stomach hurt. His lungs especially needed the release.

Eren raised a brow as the two gently lowered the ‘package’ to the ground.

“What’s this all about?” Eren asked.

Bertolt began stuttering. Reiner took a step back.

“Why don’t you open it?” Reiner clapped his hands together, figuring that was a good enough cue for Annie. He wanted to see how the rest would play out

“Uh… okay.” Eren shrugged.

Before he could move to try and open his package, he was taken aback when the box started… moving.

Inside the box, poor Annie began worrying. Why couldn’t she jump out in a glorious blaze like she’d seen in the movies?

Shit, she thought. I can’t get out!

“Guys,” Eren stammered, “is there something… inside the box?”

His question went unanswered as Reiner’s eyes widened in horror. “Bertolt… when I said ‘use the glue on the kitchen counter,’ you didn’t happen to reach for the yellow bottle, did you? The one with the missing label?”

Bertolt nodded. “Uhh… well… yeah. I used that one”

“That was super glue, Bertolt!” Reiner shouted in agony. “Shit!”

“Oh, no!” Bertolt gasped.

Eren grimaced. “So, how the hell am I gonna get this thing open?!” The box kept jumbling around. Whatever, or whoever, was inside seemed desperate to get out. “And who the hell uses super glue instead of ya know, TAPE, to seal a package?!”

“We ran out of tape! Look, there’s no time to explain, Eren! We gotta get it open!” Reiner hastily picked up the box and tried frantically to pry it open with no more than his bare hands.

“I don’t think that’ll work, Reiner!” Bertolt implored the blond beast to settle it carefully on the front lawn and then quickly said a prayer. “Forgive me, Annie.” He whispered.

To the horror of those in his presence, he began kicking the sides of the box in an effort to weaken its construct.

“What the hell?!” Eren gasped.

“Bertolt! No!” Reiner ran to stop his friend from continuing. “That’s not how we’ll get it open.” Reiner rolled up his sleeves. “This is how we’ll get it open.”

With that, he began punching the top of the hefty cardboard box, with the intention of doling out enough damage to free the enslaved Annie from the package’s restraints.

Eren could only watch in shock, frozen where he stood like a deer in a headlight.

He came to his senses when he heard something inside squeal in distress.

“Stop!” Eren dashed over to stop the idiots from causing any further damage. “Didn’t you hear that just now? It made a noise!”

“It did?” Bertolt and Reiner asked in unison.

Eren paused for a moment and sighed. “This isn’t some kind of prank, right?” The chances of them messing with him were high, but the concerned looks on their faces appeared genuine.

When both giants shook their heads, Eren exhaled sharply and began walking to his garage.

“This thing is indestructible. I’m gonna go grab my dad’s chainsaw.”

Bertolt and Reiner nearly choked at his suggestion.

“You can’t be serious!” They cried out in sheer defeat.

“What choice do we have?!”

Just when all hope seemed lost, the box rumbled and jumbled around, like a volcano about to erupt.

Though the boys had no way of knowing what was happening, it wouldn’t be long before all their worries could be cast aside. Thankfully.

Annie, by the grace of gods above, hadn’t been harmed by the barbaric acts of her friends in their attempts at freeing her. She had been placed in the box with loads of bubblewrap and crinkle-cut paper as a means of cushioning her inside.

As a fall back plan, she had brought a special ring gifted to her from her father; a ring with a small sharp folding blade sheathed within.

Using the blade, she began methodically tearing away, finally managing to free herself after a few swipes.

Annie burst out of the box and stood up victoriously. After briefly dusting her knees, she reached for the bag of gumballs at her feet and made her way over to where Eren was standing.

All three boys were at a loss for words, watching her as though she had just risen from the grave.

“Here.” She handed Eren the gumballs nonchalantly, like the last few minutes never happened. “Open it.”

“Annie…” Eren couldn’t formulate a proper sentence, voice emptily trailing off.

Bertolt suddenly lost consciousness and fainted, to which Reiner gathered him in his arms to catch his fall. He fanned away at Bertolt, casually offering words of encouragement while trying not to laugh.

“Calm down,” he sighed. “Everything turned out all right.”

In another setting, Eren had hurriedly opened the bag of gumballs and fished out a small note inside.

The note read; I finally have the balls to ask you to Sadies.

Awh! Such neat hand-writing, too!

Eren smiled and looked back at Annie, pulling her in for a hug.

“Took you long enough,” he said, squeezing her tight.

Annie smirked, completely satisfied.

Although her plan hadn’t quite worked out the way she had intended, it was certainly one for the books.

Who else could say their date was about to use a chainsaw to free them from being stuffed inside a box?

Suffice to say, she definitely outshined all her friends- and even managed to surprise herself.

Reiner is getting hotter with each passing chapter. I fear we may rapidly be approaching a state of ultimate hotness that may be too much for us mere mortals to handle.

I liked how much the new warriors look up to the older warriors How did Zeke drug Connies village if this is really required for his scream to work? And I wonder, are there eldians outside of Marly and paradis Island? Because the east sea nation don't have a high opinion of them as well. So, I wonder how they are treated in their society if they happen live there.

The reactions of the warriors reminded me a lot of how almost everyone reacted during Trost - most of them only knew how horrific it was, they'd never seen it. And it was HEARTBREAKING FOR EVERYONE. (But while Gaillard is agile, Ymir's titan didn't have the special jaw design, which would be weird AF if she really was the "Jaw Titan." So I'm pretty sure she's still safe).

It hit me like a double-decker.

It was gucci

That chapter was well-done action-wise. It was cool to see the warriors of Marley in action. I'm still sad about Reiner's potential fate but I have to get prepared for him to die next chapter or in the chapter after. Poor boy only dedicated his life to an imposed duty since childhood without a break, on top of losing everybody he loved. If he dies I still have Zeke, but Reiner was my favorite warrior alongside Bert. Gabi and Falco warmed on me but not enough. I still want to spend the whole volume on Marley before moving on. no time-skips surprised me...

Zeke doesn't look he's aged a day. It was nice to see him again.

The only wow element for me was older Reiner. That's it.

I'm afraid Isayama will return to the main cast for the rest of the volume. There are still a lot of unanswered questions about Reiner and Zeke, plus now we have Falco and Gabi characters (and Pieck and Galliard on top of that). I feel there should be better a introduction for the new cast, and at least some update about Reiner\Zeke ( their worldview, their rediness to pass on their titans, their opinion on the candidats, at least some interactions with them). Also, I yet so see Mare's side of the conflict, and not oppreses Mare's Eldians, but actual Mare's people (military and civilians alike). So far we've met only two officers and they were jerks. Mare's still painted pretty black, I would like to see some gray areas as well.

I'm getting a little tired of all these new characters, and while seeing Reiner again was quite nostalgic, I really wish Isayama would bring the story back to the original characters soon.

I think Reiner's not out for the count yet, but here's something I can totally see happening: we switch back to the Paradis people and the Marleyans attack them. Everyone thinks the Armored Titan is Reiner and they try talking to him only to discover it's one of the new people. OR, for some extra tragedy, they kill/capture the titan and THEN realize it isn't even Reiner. Bonus bonus tragedy if Connie finally gets his revenge and it's not even Reiner. :( Can totally see Isayama doing that.

It was really disturbing to realize that Annie, Bertolt, Reiner, and Marcel were once probably just like Gabi, Falco, Udo, etc. They might have been idealistic, prone to kindness even to their enemies (like Falco)... or not (since it's impossible to say for sure!) But seeing what actually fighting within the walls has done to Reiner--his trauma, etc. was an excellent contrast to the relative innocence the new cast gives off, and it's heartbreaking to consider that the Warriors we know may have once been the same way. Eren & co. please arrive promptly and save them.

It was boring.

I wish they would show why zeke was the holder of the key to the whole story.

I am sad that "Hot Dayum Daddy-o" Is not an acceptable answer for Reiner's hotness raiting. I also better see a warrior backstory before Isayama ties the noose for good on Reiner if he indeed decides to kill him off.

i have been giving this particular chapter a LOT of thought, and after looking back to ch. 51 of the manga, particularly at the picture of connie's mother in comparison to the drooling woman towards the front of page 2, i'm pretty convinced that the elodians were the people from ragako. that being said, i'm a slight bit skeptical that they were drugged and instead am starting to believe an older theory that just as zeke can turn people into mindless titans, he can turn them back into mindless humans.

Where's Annie

SCs better ally with the Mid-East Union or Eldians will be doomed by Marley faster.

Was surprised by how much I loved this chapter, after I so hated the last one. Oh, how far we've come since the early days of the story. I can't even imagine this in an animated form. It's too many years away.

Something that stuck out to me was Gabi's concern for Reiner, "Reiner... be careful." It's a bit odd, she wants his power (aka eat him) but is concerned for him? Is it because of his power? Or does she know and legit care for him, but she (and the other cadets) haven't been told that eating them (the titan shifters) is a necessity to gain the power? Wouldn't that be traumatizing to figure out... I'm also curious about whether or not the warriors backstories are going to be told. Since Reiner's been knocked out (again XD) it could be a good time for the next chapter to open up with a flashback and end with him waking up? He's been kept alive for a while, and there's obviously a reason for it. I also want to know more about the other little warriors, they seem neat :)

Maybe im in denial but Reiner cant die yet, hes the warrior that knows the enemy best and needs to teach someone to use the 3dmg (If he hasnt already in these 4 years)

fans are making too much drama for the recent lack of the main trio and the 104th squad. I'm more happy to learn about new characters outside the island and see differents points of view about the world, it gives you a global vision. Also I wish we could learn more about Marley people not for the point of view of Eldians but for themselfs or I don't know maybe from other countries? for now they are bad bad very evil duh, but I don't think in a story that constantly makes us reflect on what its good and evil the idea of Marley as the supreme ultra evil enemies is just to simple ... and lazy.

I fell 50/50 about the probabilities of Galliard eating Ymir, but the agility he has is not a proof, i don't believe the "every titan has a unique ability" thing.

Really wondering whether or not reiner may survive this since he is close to running out of time like zeke

I absolutely loved this chapter. It was action packed & the ending got me so fucking hyped for next months chapter. We also got some development on the new Warriors which was really interesting. I hope they will play an important role in this arc. I'm so fucking hyped to see what the SC have been up to for the past 4 years. They probably established a base on the coast or something. btw DID I MENTION IM FUCKING HYPED FOR THE NEXT CHAPTER!?

It was so short it felt like "heey you guys now you have anime so manga can be less interesting". This chapter was so unnecessary IMO

All in all, this chapter was way more in-depth than the last one and I liked how the warrior kids all got a bit of a personal touch to them. Reiners flashback scene was the most impactful moment in my opinion. It was so heartbreaking. Also, this chapter had a proper conclusion, so I hope we're getting the main cast again next chapter.

This was a cool chapter because of the action. I am not fan of the forced bullshit Isayama has been introducing recently like the convenient amnesia in the last chapter. Make the narrative more fluid!

GIVE ME ARMIN'S TITAN FORM GODDAMIT

Devastating. To see the Eldians being used as mindless weapons was severely disturbing. And Zeke finally realising that War is indeed a terrible thing. These chapters are hella intense and enlightening about the world outside. It's still really sick though. Totally sick I can't even. But the thing that really excites AND frightens me the most now is WHAT HAPPENED IN WALLED WORLD WITHIN THE 4 YEARS OF TIME SKIP. Now that we've seen what the Marleyans can and intend to do, I'm feeling really anxious about the 'final' battle between the Eldians and Marleyans. With our precious badass scientist Hange and badass fighter Levi and basically the entire badass scouts, I don't think the people in the walled world, particularly the SC just sat around and did nothing. I don't need a full flashback of their 4 years (though that would be nice as well), but I do want to see how they progressed and improved during those years. I'm imagining it in my head already: the ultimate war. And then we see all the upgrades that the SC did as well, and how Eren and Armin have mastered their titans. I'm even hoping to finally see Annie again, as a villain or whatever, as long as she's put back into the story. I'm expecting a huge twist, but please not something too nasty like Eren being dead already or something. Also, I've never really warmed up to the Marleyans, and after these past chapters, I don't think I ever will. I don't think Zeke is going to get eaten, not soon, at least. He's got so many plot points that require him (Eren, Levi wanting to kill him...), but I do think it's time for Reiner to go, since he survived three extreme situations. By the way, from Marley's perspective, giving Zeke's power to a new recruit seems like a terrible idea: if they are planning to get the Coordinate, they need an experienced war chief to start immediately. It's enough that one of their five titans will need a new recruit after Reiner's demise (if it's true he is going to die, of course, I could be wrong).

It was a good chapter, but i still have no clue about the direction Yams wants to give the story. I feel like he's going too far from what SnK has Always been. I am not happy to meet the main cast, the time skip looked like a stupid way to solve all the stuff he made and we was about to male, like ema's part. In 4 years they argued and maybe thery already fixed. Sooo stupid.

Let's go back to our main cast, please.

At this point many of us think it's unlikely the warrior cadets will inherit BT or AT...but what if, in some type of critical situation, jaws or cartman are injured or whatever, and the only way to preserve the powers is by eating them in a hurry? This way, we'd keep plot relevant Reiner and Zeke, and at least some of the more important new kids (i.e. Faloc/Gabi/Colt) could stick theoretically stick around too (by eaten the aforementioned plot irrelevant shifters)? idk just a thought

It's all well and good to introduce new characters but this late in the story, after all these very dramatic plot/character changes and massive mystery revelations it's a bit... abrupt, to suddenly be with all these new people. I feel like it's a different series and no one told me about it.

I could be interesting if we saw the Marley politicians, or how do they choose the new shifters. But seeing again the Survey Corps could be great as well. Oh, and I was surprised that Reiner was still alive after their lose of multiple shifters titans. And I hope Ymir isn't dead not just bc she's my bae, but bc, contrary to Reiner to who I don't see relevant to the story anymore, so, Ymir is still I think useful too the story. She is still very mysterious and it would not be logical for the Marley government to make her eat and not Reiner and Zeke ? Or maybe it is in fact bc she could refuse to work for them ? I dunno. Still hope she's alive. Btw, is Historia going to be married in the next chapters (for political reasons...)

Why would they make Galliard eat Ymir when they could make a recruit eat her. Giving two titan powers to one titan doesn't make sense strategically speaking. And that's if she is on the Marley side which we don't know for sure.

I may have misinterpreted the chapter due to wonky translations, but I was hoping those opposing the Marleyans would have held out more. I thought the secondary conflict was leading to something the Eldians could use when they needed to confront Marley (not a direct alliance, if literally everyone outside the walls hates Eldians, but something *waves hands*). Otherwise... the Titan drop method is awful and I know Isayama doesn't like to hold back on the atrocities, but I'll admit it did mess me up a little after reading.

I'm really hoping to see Galliard and Pieck's human forms soon. Since there were many parallels between RBA and EMA and Zeke is said to be like a warrior Levi, I'm hoping for Galliard and Pieck to be like some warrior versions of Erwin and Hange.

I want to see more backstories; Zeke, Ymir Fritz, The First King. I can't wait until Eren re-unites with Zeke.

Well, Zeke saying "war ia a bad thing" after enjoying so much killing the Scouts was quite...incoherent? Wtf lord of the ponies?

I preferred this chapter over 91 because we got to see familiar characters. I am surprised at how quick this war ended for the viewers and hope we get to see the fallout from Marley's perspective. Maybe the changing of titans if that is going to happen before we switch back to the main cast.

I really don't want Reiner and Zeke to be replaced, as I don't see how that would add anything to the story and many conflicts would never be resolved. This chapter has a lot of really good emotional moments (Falco saving the Middle East Union man was a personal favorite). The way the Eldians are treated was genuinely horrific. Isayama is doing well building up the tension and the threat level in his manga. But, he's also now, thankfully, investing time into the emotional gravity of this situation and this new world. This chapter was much better at establishing what this side of the wall is all about than the previous chapter. But, the main characters need to come back because I doubt most of us will ever care about the new characters nearly as much as we do the old ones. Also, Reiner is back!!! And he's so hot but everything is so sad! Seeing Reiner again is like trying to eat ice cream while you're sobbing your heart out. And honestly, if Reiner is supposed to be "dead"... all I can say is that it would be pretty lame.

The story has become way more interesting that I initially thought. I really love the new perspective shown of the tragic young warriors. The hopelessness of the Pradise situation now that we saw Marly's power. I'm scared to think of how more complicated it will be. Love how isayama is never scared to leave the main cast behind whenever he wanted to express more thoughts or story. good job.

The chapter was great. We finally have an idea of what the military prowess of Marley as well as the rest of the world is like. We know how Eldians are treated by Marley and viewed by other nations and honestly the situation is grim for Paradis. I truly hope they achieved massive strides in weapon and warfare or found an ally of sorts otherwise they are completely at the mercy of the coordinate.

To the farther left of this group there are two boys very close to each other one with a long horse like face with an undercut in brown and bleach blonde and the other boy was a nice looking boy with brown hair and soft eyes then in the middle of the room is a brown haired girl who is eating and-“you! So after all this time I get so happy to finally see Eren again and that I’m not just gonna see a picture of him that hanji sent me. I come to class three hours early and clean the entire classroom till it shines taking my time. Then sitting at my desk I already know what I will do to my class for day one of being back as their teacher. As my door closes- when did it open? “Shitty glasses I can’t deal with your shit this early go away and bug eyebrows.” Suddenly as some one drops all of their stuff I look up from my computer and it sure as hell wasn’t hanji. Just for you all because you are the best part of my every day, the fact that I know I can wake up every day so I can see you again is so-“ suddenly the door opens and students start filing in “ I will finish this talk with you later Eren.” I say before walking to the front of the classroom and standing at my desk. “Okay class you may or may not remember me, I was your kindergarten teacher and I’m back. So today being the first day I want to get to know you guys better because ya know the whole not-seeing-you-for-twelve-years-so-I-don’t-know-you-as-well-now-as-I-did-back-then thing. So everyone I want you to form a circle and write your names on the white board I will give you, and write fifty in the middle.” I say before handing out mini whiteboards to everyone and then as soon as I’m done I grab one for my self and write heichou on the top right corner and then write the number fifty in the middle. “Okay so the rules of this game is you can’t attack people by what you say but you do have to ask a question like “never have I ever had a girlfriend “ and then if you have you erase the number on your board and write forty nine and then forty eight and then forty seven etc. when someone reaches zero if anyone does that then they are out of the game so I’ll start and then you can go Ymir. Never have I ever.....kissed my opposite gender.” Jean suddenly looks up at me “what about you and your boyfriend Eren in kindergarten? Looking over I see In the end everyone else had forty nine on their boards and then everyone had at least one turn when the bell rang “okay everyone Marco won so everyone can clean off your white boards and set them under in your desk and then leave, Sasha this time when you eat in my class don’t make a mess and Eren I would like to speak to you when everyone leaves.” When I told Sasha to not make a mess people laughed but when I said to have Eren meet me after everyone leaves there were a lot of ‘ooooo’s and ‘chow’s and one ‘get some fool’ but when everyone left I walk up to Eren as he just stands there fearlessly but looks away when I’m about a foot away and then I stomp up to him till I am able to smell him and grabbing his shirt I bring his head down to my level “do you still like me?” I ask while we are close enough I can already feel the heat radiating off him especially when he starts to blush “I’ll take that as a yes.” I mutter before slamming my lips on his. My favorite characters in snk

Hi ! I thought about sending my votes as an ask at first - but I just have so much love for these characters and shingeki no kyojin as a whole that I finally decided to share my thoughts ! (My very long thoughts. I hope this post is not too long.)

Now, before I begin : WARNING - THIS POST CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE MANGA, anime-only fans beware

(Also, there’s a tldr at the end if you don’t wanna read my rambling haha)

1. Annie Leonhardt

Annie is one of my favorite characters of all animes. To be completely honest, I don’t exactly remember why she’s my favorite character, as she became it when I watched SnK’s first season, two or three years ago. But I’m pretty sure it has to do, first, with the fact that she is my favorite titan - the female titan. I love its design and its abilities (like creating that crystal armor thingy). I really like Annie herself, because of her fighting abilities and her cold demeanor. I love the fact that she deals with her guilt by isolating herself. I loved the scene at the end of season one when she transforms in Sina and laughs before and then that thing with her ring - that scene was insane. Also, “I guess I just want the weak who do get swept along with the flow to be considered human too”, god, gotta love that line (didn’t even need to look it up, i apparently memorized it).

She better get out of her damn crystal one day, I swear, I really want to discover what she’d do, if she learned about everything that happened since she’s been crystallized. (Or I’d like to see what would happen if the Survey Corps tried to manipulate her into betraying Marley and fighting on their side - could it work ? How would they achieve that ?) Basically, she hasn’t been there for like 70 chapters or something but I still love her lots and I still think she has a lot of potential.

2. Reiner Braun

My second vote goes to Reiner for many reasons. I didn’t notice him all that much in season 1 to be honest, but then I learned he was the armored titan, and then there’s the fact that at his core, he’s a really good person. He wants to protect people and help his comrades… so much that he develops a second personality, more or less - his guilt is breaking him. It’s sad that he finds himself in such a situation - he was led to believe the people within the walls were devils, but then, when he discovers most of them aren’t that bad, he has already caused the death of so many of them ? That’s horrible (and genius, don’t mistake me - I love that).

Now, where we’re at in the manga, he’s in a very unique place. He knows that Walldians (is that an official name for the people within the walls ? I don’t know but I’m using it, this is gonna make this easier) - so, I was saying, he knows that Walldians aren’t actually devils, but the people in Marley aren’t bad either. But it’s not like Walldians are sinless, good samaritains either - they killed Bertholdt, are keeping Annie prisoner… (does Reiner still thinks Annie’s being tortured, btw ? Did he ever find out that she’s just stuck in her crystal ?). I read somewhere that “he’s realizing there’s no good side” and I find this perfectly accurate. He’s kinda stuck, there’s not much he can do, and he’s also pretty much about to die (aren’t his 13 years almost over ?). Talking out of line, trying to tell people that Walldians aren’t worse than Marleyans, that exterminating them won’t restore Eldia’s honor or whatever, doing that would have no point - even if anyone believed him, it would put his family in danger and he’d be a traitor to both sides…

Also, I loved discovering his backstory. He enrolled in the warriors program for his family, for his mom, how cute is that ? His father is Marleyan too, that’s pretty interesting. And as a warrior in training, he was the underdog, he was far from being at the top of the class, that’s kind of a contrast from how he was in the Walldians’ military. His young friendship with Bertholdt was pretty cute too ! It’s nice to think that friendship evolved and got stronger, and to think that they could truly rely on each other when they probably felt so alone because they were traitors.

So, Reiner has got to be lonely now - because of what he knows about Walldians and because of what he lived inside the Walls, and because he is the only one to know those things and to have live that because Bertholdt is dead. I think he feels like nowhere is really home anymore, like he doesn’t have a place anywhere… Anyway. I’m rambling at this point, but yeah because of season 2 and the latest manga chapters (also his beard, at first I thought it looked odd lmaoo but now, god am I on board with this look…) he’s now one of my fave characters.

3. Ymir

Wow, I really love titan-shifters, don’t I ? Anyway. Season 2 wrecked me and amazed me and made me love Ymir so, so much. It caught me by surprise actually, i never thought I’d love her so much. But god - her backstory, her interactions with Christa, her characterisation… all of that made me totally fall in love with her. I feel like in a way, she’s the most original titan-shifter, because she was always kind of between the two sides - Walls and Marley. She’s not a warrior whose mission is to eradicate Walldians, but she’s not a fighter aiming to free the people of the Walls either. She literally fell onto the power of the titans by chance. She’s a titan-shifter that was never meant to become a titan-shifter and I love that.

I love her selfishness a lot. I love how she changed from a false god who died for her people to a girl that took a conscious decision to live for herself. I love how even though she wanted to live for herself, she still, still fell in love with Christa. I love how she revealed her secret and endangered herself to save Christa (in s2 ep 4 and 5). I love how she encourages people to be themselves and to live for themselves like she does. Also, I didn’t mention it in Reiner’s part, but that conversation :

“Ymir : I’m shocked. I was under the impression that you had no interest in women.

Reiner : Yeah. And it doesn’t seem like you have interest in guys, either.” YAAAAS MY QUEER SOUL IS THRIVING !!

Ahem. Anyway. Her whole scene in season 2 ep 10 with the sky just after she’s become human again after 60 years ? That was insanely beautiful. Also her titan form is pretty cool, I love that its strength lies not in its pure physical strength but in its small form and strong jaw. You have to be clever to use that titan and boy is Ymir clever as hell.

4. Pieck

(Wow, another shifter, what a surprise haha). So, this vote might seem surprising because Pieck has barely appeared, she has existed for less than like 5 chapters haha, but I actually already quite like her. I mostly like her for her potential - I’m really looking forward to learning more about her. I like that she forgot how to walk because she spent too much time in her titan form, that brings up new questions about the shifters and brings to light an interesting aspect of shifting (even though staying a long time in titan form might be an ability unique to the cart titan). With the way shifter heals, I think it’s like, one of the first time we learn about a physical consequence of another sort. Apart from that, I also like her because with Annie, they’re the only two women in the warriors (that possess a titan. That will probably change soon with Gabi but whatever. Still, Annie and Pieck are the only women of the “first generation” of shifters).

5. And that’s all !

I hesitated about voting for a fifth character too but in the end I couldn’t decide who I wanted to vote for. Here are some of the people I hesitated about : Hanji, because she’s crazy in the best way, because she’s excited and incredibly smart and curious and idk I just love her. Rico Brzenska, because no matter how minor a character she is, she is badass as hell, and she was really cool at the battle of Trost (or that one time when they used Eren to plug the hole in the wall, idk if I have the right name for it). Hitch, because I love how snide she is, idk. Bertholdt, because he’s discreet but nice, because his guilt makes him interesting (a bit like Reiner), because of his beautiful speech in season 2 ep 11. Levi, because - well, the same reasons as everyone, his strength but also his loyalty to his fellow soldiers, also because of that one manga scene of torturing that one guy with Hanji, also because of his face in s2 ep12 when he learns that titans are humans.

So, that’s it ! I’m looking forward to seeing the results of this poll but I’m gonna be happy no matter what because SnK is incredible and there is no bad character. I’m looking forward to season 3 and to the next manga chapters !

tldr ; so, i apparently like titan-shifters a lot, because my four votes go to : Annie Leonhardt, Reiner Braun, Ymir and Pieck. I couldn’t bring myself to choose a fifth person, I love too many characters haha.
