Thinkin' about an AU where Saitama's an esper. I don't remember if I ever shared it here (if I did, I'll link it) but it's one of my favorites just because its so funky.
Basic premise is: Saitama's an esper who was also held hostage for experimentation, like Tatsumaki. They even knew each other for a brief amount of time, before they escaped. His esper abilities, like his physical (in canon), strengthen over time the more emotional impact his brain undergoes. More on that in a bit.
His esper ability is that he can alter/affect gravitational pulls either within a target his aura surrounds or everything outside of it. For example: 24/7, Saitama's body is surrounded in an aura that has a contant outward gravity push. He can't make anything float or move anything the way Tatsumaki or Fubuki can, but he can redirect all of the gravitational push towards certain parts of a target's body. It's what allows him to jump as high as he can, it's what adds so much power to his punches, it's what makes him faster. When he punches a monster, the outward force of the gravity surrounding his fist pushes the insides, the flesh, etc in the opposite direction—which is what makes the monster explode.
Nothing can pierce the force, either, because of its output. If something were to hit him, it wouldn't make contact, and instead would get pushed back. It's why he doesn't sustain damage, either.
In the simplest way I can explain it: His esper abilities is basically if the world's gravitational Pull could become a Push, and he controls the severity of how much his force can push something away or push down on it.
(He did train his body too, but he isn't as strong as he is in canon. He's on par with like. Just-Introduced Garou. Maybe. I haven't thought about the specifics of that part yet)
Up until the start of the Garou Arc that Saitama's strength was mostly stemming from his Esper Abilities because Saitama just. Never had the chance to tell him, and Genos was always off somewhere else whenever he happened to use it openly.
Genos decides to stay by his side when he finds out though, cuz even if he isn't as physically strong as he thought he was, Saitama was still wise—intelligent, golden-hearted (majority of the time). A hero to admire. That, and he kinda sorta fell in love with him and nothing was going to make him stop
I just noticed that because of Saitama's intervention, esper villains were distracted long enough for Tatsumaki to take action. This has happened twice already. Coincidence?
Automatic reflexes and survival instinct, do you have it?
One thing Saitama tried to warn Fubuki about when they first met:
That her survival instinct when reacting to legitimate threats, even when given plenty time to prep, is lacking, because she's not been tested enough on the field. She's been coddled by her own need to surround herself with a group and sheltered from the harsh reality.
Notably because Saitama himself keeps tackling all the insane level threats.
By putting down other heroes and stagnating their progress, she's directly opposed to them going out there confidently to develop said survival instinct on the field that would help them survive in their chosen profession and otherwise.
Then she even said Saitama won't survive without her help, which is direct insult on his hard work and dedication and capacity to survive in the harshest of environment. Saitama had survived on his lonesome thus far, even if he didn't thrive. But survived nonetheless against the overwhelming odds.
If Saitama had been an actual enemy, she'd have been dead long before she even realized what was happening.
Maybe her reaction time has gotten better since MA arc...maybe she could defend herself in time if she was ready and prepared...
But it is not enough to actually save anybody else from becoming collateral damage.
(Oh look Saitama is collateral and he does not care, because he's invulnerable. Except when he is not)
Her inexperience in handling a sudden situation that threathens casualties makes her unable to react in time quickly enough to prevent them from happening, because she gets too shocked into inaction. It's natural if one is not in such field work for long enough to develop reflexes to save other people, but the world of OPM does not wait for her to get enough field experience.
She needed to perform now and she failed miserably.
She does not have the automatic reflexes to psychically save anybody when push comes to shove either, when threat is far too fast for her to react to or visually even see. Threats at dragon level and above and those who unhesitatingly go for the sudden deadly strike on people who are not even involved in the fight.
Such as civilians.
Can't react to what you can't see coming can ya?
Which would seem to be consistent with how ONE writes psychic powers in Mob psycho too. There needs to be some preparation time. They more than likely have to visually process what they see in their brain in order to exert their will over things.
This would be the weakness of psychics.
And guess what kind of enemy she is up against right now?
An enemy who seems to be very much willing to silence anybody who knows too much about them, if push comes to shove. And can simultaneously tackle many issues at one time.
Because they don't want any witnesses.
Fubuki and Psykos are both in grave danger and Fubuki does not seem to have enough clue about what exactly she's messing with.
Quoting Illidan from WoW:
"You are not prepared."
Look
If you had
One shot
Or one opportunity
To seize everything you ever wanted
In one moment
Would you capture it
Or just let it slip?
Yo
His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy
There's vomit on his sweater already, mom's spaghetti
He's nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready
To drop bombs, but he keeps on forgettin'
What he wrote down, the whole crowd goes so loud
He opens his mouth, but the words won't come out
He's chokin', how, everybody's jokin' now
The clocks run out, times up, over, blaow
Snap back to reality, ope there goes gravity
Ope, there goes Rabbit, he choked
He's so mad, but he won't give up that easy? No
He won't have it, he knows his whole back's to these ropes
It don't matter, he's dope, he knows that, but he's broke
He's so stagnant, he knows, when he goes back to this mobile home, that's when it's
Back to the lab again, yo, this whole rhapsody
Better go capture this moment and hope it don't pass him
You better lose yourself in the music, the moment
You own it, you better never let it go
You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow
This opportunity comes once in a lifetime
In short, we're rapping alongside Forte to Eminem's Lose yourself. We even got the Mom's spagetti reference hahah, this writer is the best.
Forte is just kind of autotuning rn though because he er, got knocked unconscious.
I like One-Punch Man, but I’m not that much of a fan of how Murata draws the female characters, especially how he chooses to draw their clothes wrapping around their breasts. Clothes don't work like that and it stands out since everything else is draw more realistically.
Also I just hate Murata's design for Tatsumaki. Just look compare how she looks to ONE's webcomic.
(why is she constantly having her dress float around when she's not wearing underwear?)
Murata draws her as sexy and while I know she's supposed to be an adult she's refered to or mistaken for a child several times which makes it kind of uncomfortable. In the original she's a small gremling, why couldn't she had stayed that way? Not every female character needs to be a sex symbol.
Hi! I read a fan theory that there are many people in the world as psychically strong as Mob or even stronger, but they are like Mob and opt not to use their powers for various reasons. Toichiro didn’t discover them because he was too short-sighted. Do you think this is supported by the text or goes along with the story? (I kinda was under the impression that Mob is like Saitama in OPM, the strongest no doubt, but I could be wrong.)
I mean, I don't think so. There aren't that many espers in the world at all, and I think it's important to the narrative that Mob is the strongest. MP100 a story that's set up with the premise that the protagonist is impossibly powerful, but this power alone is never the solution to his problems. It's about kindness and emotional growth and getting through to people with his words, even if sometimes he does have to fight them first. The point is that Mob could pretty much always wipe the floor with the people he's up against, but he doesn't want to. That's not what he's about and that's not what the story is about. And it's specifically important that at the end, when his powers have run wild, there's no one that can stop him with force or psychic violence. The ONLY way out is for him to accept himself, with the help of the people who care about him.
Is it possible that there's someone out there in the world who's a more powerful psychic than him? I mean . . . sure, technically. But I guess the follow-up question is: does it matter? It's a bit of a 'if a tree falls in the forest with no one to hear it, does it make a sound?' question. If there's a psychic stronger than Mob but they're sitting peacefully off in Thailand or whatever and never interact with the story, why would I care? MP100 isn't about A World With Psychic Powers. It's about one boy.
(In truth, his advice to her as a child only placed a heavy curse of expectations on her way of life.)
Young Tatsumaki hopes, "I'm sure Blast will respect me after I've gotten this strong. I'm sure he'll teach me a better way to live my life."
(In truth, she pleads, "Blast! I've tried really hard! But nothing works out. I don't want everyone to be afraid of me. But unless they are, things will just be like before. What should I do...?")
Meanwhile, Saitama assures to adult Tatsumaki, "Esper or whatever, you can live your life as you like..."
(Which, while not a concrete answer, is at least a step towards easing that curse and releasing some of those heavy, lonely constraints on her life.)
I am very tempted to write an ESPer!Saitama fic. Very much so. I would like to give his telekinesis a very specific function:
His powers focus on gravitational force and his ability to alter in within a given area. He encases his body in this gravitational force (and he is very conscious as to how much of his body and where on his body he is using it) as his defense and offense mechanism. An exerpt I've jotted down once to explain:
"The aura [Genos] sees shifts, seeping along his near-clotheless body like dripping blood, down to his arm, surrounding in a much harsher, thicker aura. From his very finger tips to the pit of his elbow, wisping black and variants of dark blues.
He pulls his arm back, face hardened in irritation and agitation, and punches the monster. The gap the force of his gravity left in its chest wide—wider than [Genos] anticipated. And the push of his force, as it did before, forced the monster's body to tear apart and explode.
Basically: he surrounds his body in gravity and that gravity is always pushing outward, which is why he can:
Make monsters explode
Deflect direct attacks
Jump higher and run faster than the average man
Block out gases, water, heat, cold, etc.
Deflect objects
And, when used on someone/something else, can push them or crush them under the force of it.
He can alter the force and strength of it as well, which is why others don't get sent flying back when they touch him. He typically keeps it low as to not hurt anyone.
Now, as for my dilemma:
How the fuck am I meant to write this without just copypasting shit from the manga OR making it extremely deviated?
Cuz Saitama is still ungodly—his strength is unparalled. But also, in technicality, not, because his strength just comes from his telekinesis. His human body is still very much vulnerable.
So how, while staying true to the source, not copy it all but substitute his moments of strength with kinesis, but also not make it completely different by changing outcomes of certain large moments? Like Genos asking to be Saitama's disciple?
(I'm more just ranting than actually expecting advice, but if you have any, you're welcome to share)
My Danganronpa phase has come back full force lately and this is a super loaded question (so just throwing apologies out there!) but what sort of Ultimate/Super High School Level would the rest of the 40 be (sans Makoto)?
Oh yeah, let's do this!
(Remember, all these titles are subject to change!)
i am so super duper close to writing silly satosugu x esper! reader with crazy dumb saitama levels of power. like incomprehensibly strong. way out of gojo's league. as in able to reach straight through his infinity like it's not even on. 0 resistance and he and geto are just dumbfounded
You are actually talking about 神覚者 Shinkakusha
(God enlightened people) aren't you?
The deconstruction of the word 神覚者 Shinkakusha Kami 神 God shinkai 神界, "the world of the kami" Basically Divine Enlightened/Wise Person, with the divine part being Kami specifically.
Specifically, why Awakened Garou is called "awakened". So apparently Fubuki does think that God resides in Saitama.
How the fuck do you know this? You're legit talking in riddles here.
Riddle me this, the distinction between these two characters.
Er, One is man made esper and another is born?
One on the left is man made esper and another one on the right is born esper?
Uuuhm.
"ONE is Man made Esper" and "Another is Born."
"One man made esper is the on(ly) one left"
"Another born esper is the on(ly) right one?"
Question mark ???
One(1) and only one.
1LY. ILY = I love you.
(Cuz loveen langennut)
Heh. Hehehe...
Hehehehee.
Gotcha. Clever. That's very fucking clever. I knew it.
This writer is so good.
*slow clap*
Phrase originally used by the Riddler at the beggining of one of his riddles, asking the listener to explain the riddle. Now used as a challenge to someone to provide an answer to a question that has no apparent answer.
Manmade esper btw. The filth of humankind flushed down the toilet. Pure insanity.
This manga getting a bit too much self-aware for anybody else? Chars knowing information they should have no way of knowing and talking in riddles?
Saitama keeps getting bonked in the head with rocks like "dude, remember."
(Anybody else think Tsukuyomi and Tatsumaki hair look like Genos hair and Mob's ??? hair? :D)
