I think it's mad suspicious that people are quick to jump to believing Daigo is definitely only or very into women based on him being a cabaret club once onscreen, and that Mine is definitely into women because his secretary. Never mind one of these characters had an onscreen love confession about the other man because they don't even want to acknowledge it as something that was 100% romantic. Idk HOW so many insecure men started stapling themselves to Mine (oh it's probably the sigma grindset) but here we are I guess 💀 People can see things how they want, but... there's some braindead Reddit posts/threads about both of them on this topic.

My favorite moment was when one guy started projecting onto Mine saying he only dates supermodels 😭 Mans had a whole ass speech about hating fakeness, feeling unfulfilled and uninterested in the wealthy life of money and women, and longed for a genuine relationship. All of that? I don't know her.

they could have had mine and daigo make out for 5 minutes straight on screen in 4k and there would still be people arguing either of them were straight. but for a Real Talk and rambling moment look below the cut 🥴

i think the funniest bit about people saying mine's straight is when they reference the line where he says he could have any woman with all the money he collected- but that line like. is Immediately followed up by him saying he wasnt happy that way and judging by the rest of his speech, we can deduce he was just doing what he assumed would make him happy based on societal norms of having money, power, and women.

and theres nothing bad about saying mine's slept with women btw- i wouldnt turn the idea away, esp if you wanna consider it as comphet behavior. but even despite all that, it's really hard to say that mine didn't love daigo romantically when in official rgg guides and rggo stories it was stated one way or another that mine explicitly fell in love with daigo, the phrase being used only ever associated either with romantic feelings or immense adoration that you probably wouldn't use for a typical friend

also the bit about mine and his secretary is so funny cause i remember my friend- who didnt know a thing about rgg- was making me a mine amv as part of an art trade and when they saw him and katase they automatically assumed they were A Thing so i think its just instinctive heteronormativity: if man and woman on screen surely theyre together 🥴

with daigo it's so like. 🤷‍♀️ rgg's inability to have a woman on screen for more than five minutes without her dying kills them in shit like this cause aside from that cabaret scene where daigo's at his lowest and very-easily resorting to hedonistic practices to numb his pain, we never see him with another woman or even mention another woman. if you wanna add more to it, during an rggo story mine finds the concept of daigo spending the night with a woman instantly suspicious (for context, daigo was actually kidnapped and just lied to a bodyguard he was with a woman), suggesting that daigo isn't really known to do as such to people who really know him.

basically dream got a surgery and tweeted after he got it that he might have people stand in for him making tiktoks for him wearing his mask because he can’t make them rn (which sidenote pretty sure his brother is the one in the tiktoks confirming the body double theory lmao)

people on reddit then were talking about it and he just started arguing with everyone on there about it and also about the fact that people are getting frustrated with him not making any of the content they actually became fans of him for and just focusing on his music that no body wants and expecting everyone’s blind support of it and he claimed that that was bullshit and he has been making that content just at a slower rate even though the only content he’s put out in months is random tiktoks that he admitted sometimes aren’t even him, music, and tweets

i don’t understand why he would feel like he “needs” to have someone else film his tiktoks bc like. tiktoks are Not his main draw of content it’s his stupid little video games obviously i don’t know what kind of surgery he got or how it’s affecting him but he could absolutely just sit down and film a minecraft video / twitch stream that way no one would gaf if he didn’t do tiktok i’m sure

i've calmed down a little since my rant (not a whole lot, but enough lol) and if snc accept elton's apology, that's fine.

however to me, it doesn't make up for what he did for three years. elton continuously said nasty things about snc to fans in public on tour (as someone explained their experience on reddit) and then in comments and tweets. and even if snc did what elton claimed they did back then, that didn't warrant the constant pettiness that he gave them. i get feeling slighted or pissed that someone stole your idea (which isn't what snc did but is what elton claimed and then tried to say that fans said that....) but doing it so publicly is the part that grosses me out the most, personally.

snc are private ppl. they keep a lot of shit under wraps. so to air out your grievances so loudly in front of fans, and then turn around three years later and blame them for taking it too far..... nah, sorry uncle elton. you're wrong.

fans took it too far by being mean and sending deaths over actual made up lies that they started. i will not argue against that. on multiple occasions i have called out tiktoks and reported ppl spreading lies about elton. but none of that negates what he actually did, which was bad mouthing snc for years over something that he felt like they did when that wasn't reality.

i'm glad they got to make up, since clearly snc really wanted to do that. but i truly hope this is the end of their relationship and we see no more from the four of them. let it now just be mutual respect for one another and nothing more. bc i still wont support a collab with either party. that's my personal line in the sand. if others don't care, cool. do you.

Lmao I think anon's "reddit leaker" is referring to Jory, who has attempted to leak info since like s6 of GOT and never gotten it right once. It’s funny because he started the Rook’s Rest in in episode 4, and yeah, maybe he’s right! But that’s where the rumour began. As someone who used to work on sets, I can tell you they’re very purposefully letting a lot of this info get out- even filming in public, there’s many ways to hide this stuff. So either they don’t care or they figure it’s not worth the trouble to try and keep the public from taking pics or video. Given how much they filmed in the woods, I’d wager it’s very possible for multiple eps and multiple directors to have been on set, like you said. Again, I’m not saying any of this info is incorrect- just that it’s not unusual to film many things in this same location back to back. They weren't just shooting battle content for three weeks. Ewan was on set but not dressed for filming, so it’s unclear what role Aemond was even playing there. We just saw them filming Criston’s reaction. I can’t claim to know when things are or aren’t happening, but as you can tell, people are convinced they’re 100% right about things that we can’t confirm. Redanian has been incorrect, as all spoiler accounts are eventually incorrect, it’s the nature of the business 🤷‍♀️

yeah, i think they must not care that much, since a lot of filming is also happening in the studio and that can radically shift whatever the outside narrative is anyway

they also perhaps want to let a few crumbs slip by as it maintains engagement during this long break

Omg! I think I was this discussing this with another fan: how the writers don’t like Sam! You’re right! If they liked her, she would’ve been written better and had better narrative framing. I felt the PTSD was brushed under the rug and during the fight at prom, Miguel had a go at her for ruining their night instead of trying to understand what got her to start the fight. Miguel has always been so aloof! I wish they’d had more scenes together in season 3 and 4 of their shared trauma.

the throughline of this character is present throughout the entire movie, from the start. the sympathetic shit is the part that feels tacked on. but i already talked about that. how i think it makes the foil ineffective, trying to make him less privileged. how catwoman is a better economic-class-race-etc counterpoint and it would have made more sense for mr. bouncing baby boy over here to be privileged (besides being a white man i mean) and for his resentment to come from a different place. but at the same time, he is privileged, and of course these kinds of guys talk about how they were let down by society, about how everyone else Deserved what they get, about how they’re teaching everyone who ever wronged them a lesson, retaliating against every perceived slight that’s stacked up in their bitter grudges

idk man it’s weird like i do have criticisms of the portrayal of that character but it sure isn’t the violence that i have problems with.

*warning for dream critical, and pointless rambling about point systems and the nature off mcc. I am not an expert, nor do I think dream should be sent any hate, or that he even really deserves actual criticism for it*

sooo dream posted this on his reddit, as I’m sure you’ve heard. here are my thoughts, because I have a lot to say.

first of all, the fact that dream doesn’t list any pvp games as his strengths is laughable. he’s undeniably a god at both sb and sg, and yet these aren’t strengths for him? he really thinks he’s better at hitw than skybattle? but obviously, if he lists those, he can’t say the point system is against him. but anyway. the tournament isn’t making him play worse, he’s playing worse, and pinning it on the tournament in general is silly.

I don’t think he’s trying to say that mcc is like rigged against him, nor is this particularly hateful, but it comes across as very entitled and oblivious to the reason why mcc exists, which I’ll get into.

Sands of Time: this is a great idea! until you... actually think about it. vaults in particular don’t work, because how can you argue that splitting vaults is more fair when usually one person finds the key and one person finds the vault itself. what about people who spend more time on puzzles or combat to unlock other areas instead of getting coins? what about sand that other people have collected that shouldn’t ‘belong’ to the sand keeper? do they deserve points for that? it’s messy at best, and keeping the points grouped and then split is the simplest and most effective way to keep it fair.

but beyond that, sot is a team game. you’re meant to work with your teammates to most effectively explore the vault, and although individual performance matters, team communication and strategy is much more important, and it’s reflected in the scores.

Parkour Tag: I’m going to trust dream’s word on this one, as many other people such as op have corroborated it. points should be fixed to better reflect the hunter’s skills.

HITW: uhhh, you get a big bonus because you survived the hardest walls my guy. it’s like getting win points for sg, you get it because you were the best, and because you effectively beat the game. also, I hate to say it but if you’re never getting to the end in hitw then you’re not that good lmao

Parkour Warrior: I don’t think he’s blaming mcc for this, or even saying it should be brought back, but like, pw was removed for a reason. the over-practicing done by some competitors forced the difficulty to be raised so far above the average person that parkour was now a miserable experience for 80% of competitors and their viewers. people weren’t having fun, and it wasn’t an engaging game if you weren’t great at it, so it got knocked. it was for the good of the tournament and the players, not to hurt dream’s ego.

TGTTOS: now this is where it gets batshit. ok, first of all, dream suggests that it’s almost impossible to use teamwork, something disproved by watching literally any perspective where teammates guide each other through the map, give tips, and shout out which directions to go. hell, group bridging has proved very effective. then, he suggests that the team bonus is bad because it gives more points to good teams... and this is a bad thing.

the team bonus is such a wonderful implement because it encourages teams where everyone contributes equally. unlike stuff like hitw, where one good player can carry a team to 1st, tgttos team bonuses mean that the strongest overall team usually wins, not the one with the strongest individual player. which is good! because this is a team tournament!

Overall: besides the impracticality of resorting the entire points system to cater to his ‘strengths’, the issue with this mindset. mcc isn’t about individual points, it’s about how you do as a team. the top two players don’t face off in dodgebolt, afterall. having shared points and team benefit encourages that the winning team is one where every player contributes and works together, instead of a few players individually being skilled. but this isn’t that for dream, and I think that’s blatantly clear. players who perform roles like woolplacer in bb don’t complain about the loss of points, they just do their job.

the hermits, especially grian, certainly haven’t played this season, despite having two of their strongest games removed from circulation (bingo and rocket spleef).

other than parkour warrior complaints raised as a community, I can’t think of anyone else that has demanded a change in points to better suit them. It comes off as incredibly egotistical to believe that can tell mcc how their tournament should be run, and that it should cater to the small percentage of people who want to take it that competitively. above all, it comes off as naive to what mcc is actually about, even if he didn’t intend for this to sound as off as it did to me.

you know what's really ridiculous about that whole 'wasting the lamp's third question' thing is... they didn't need to have another question???

ozpin had already lied about the lamp being out of questions. if they didn't have a plan for two more questions, just say that the lamp actually had one more question left, and it was the last question they used to find out oz's tragic backstory. like, there was no reason for there to be two more questions left if they didn't have plans for them tbh. and maybe not having the lamp's extra question as a crutch would've forced them to come up with better solutions to things like 'ruby has caused a leviathan grimm to start a rampage towards argus' and 'oscar has a really stupid plan to 'turn' hazel from the dark side'.

failing that, though, i maintain it's the most ludicrous thing in the world that oscar didn't use the last question. i still have no idea how just SEEING the fucking genie was enough for hazel to be convinced when he'd just been willing to beat the shit out of a fifteen-year-old kid over his 'convictions' (such as they are) lmao

This is one of the (many) reasons why I don't buy into the idea that RT is planning long-term for RWBY. If they're introducing the concept of the Lamp still having two questions in Volume 5 and if that's done with some specific intent for Volume 8... don't we think that intent would have been something a little better than "Cinder uses the final question to rehash what the audience saw last episode, resulting in her learning the heroes' plan despite never needing to know their plan in order to find and attack them"? Then we have the fact that we still don't know what happened to the third question. Once again, if you introduce the concept that a question was mysteriously used sometime over the last hundred years, the audience expects to get an answer to who used it, why, and what repercussions that has for the tale... but three years later there's nothing. There are plenty of theories (most notably that the original Spring Maiden used it alongside Lionheart and Raven), but nothing that RWBY built towards and revealed. The story doesn't read like these details were set down to be built upon later. It reads like the authors threw out random details that sounded cool, only to either drop them over time, or flounder when they realized they had to make something of that expectation, resulting in a conclusion that's either unsatisfying, or straight up doesn't make sense. Or both. A well-planned story would have a satisfying use for that final question on the backburner, and an explanation for the first question, or it would have simply told us that only one question remains, with perhaps a casual line about two things Ozpin asked a couple of decades ago to smooth over those expectations while informing the audience "It's otherwise not important." RWBY gave us none of that.

Last night I hopped onto the RWBY Reddit for the first time in an age (the perils of boredom lol) and came across a post arguing that, in regards to Weiss no longer using her time ability, the simplest explanation is that there is some in-universe explanation, not that RT forgot or deliberately dropped the ability without comment. Yes, in a story with more goodwill this would be a gap that fans would be more than happy to fill in themselves, acknowledging that no work can possibly tie up every loose end (even if dropping such a powerful skill isn't exactly a small loose end). The point though is that RWBY doesn't have that goodwill anymore. The story is overflowing with such gaps, to the point where any episode you tune into you'll hear something like:

"There's a reason Weiss stopped using her time ability, we just didn't get a scene where she explicitly said why. But it's obvious some reason exists for her. Just debate what that is for several years and come to your own, contradictory conclusions about her character."

"Of course other dust companies exist. It would be stupid to write a story with just one, therefore they're canon because the writers are not stupid. They've just never mentioned them."

"You wanted to know how Ironwood lost half his body? The show dramatically revealed his prosthetics, setting up the expectation that someday we'd learn how he acquired them as a part of the backstory for a character who has been around since Volume 2 and was the focal point of Volumes 7 and 8? Well look, just because you want something doesn't mean RT has to write it."

"The cane nuke didn't come out of nowhere. It was obvious Ozpin's cane did something because everyone's weapon does something, it was just never used, or mentioned, or hinted at until the story needed to get out of the corner it had backed itself into. What do you mean how it's used doesn't make sense? Sure it does, provided everyone ignores either Hazel's death or the obliterated grimm/unharmed buildings. Pick a side. And so what if they mentioned outside of the show that the cane was connected to time? That doesn't count."

"They mentioned outside of the show that Ironwood's semblance causes him to focus fully on a single task and that's why he went off the deep end. It totally counts."

And on and on with "It's fine that they introduced two additional questions only to use one needlessly and keep us in the dark about the other" added to the list. We could literally fill an excel sheet with a truly massive number of contradictions, inconsistencies, random plot threads, dropped ideas, and fairly useless conclusions that make you go, "Really? You'd planned for that?" The problem has never been that RWBY has such moments. Every show does. That's inevitable. More than that, it can be fun! Frustrating as it is in the canon at times, fandom thrives on playing with such challenges. How did Watson's war wound move from his leg to his shoulder? Let's think up cool ways he might have been shot where the bullet hit both. The difference here is both that the Sherlock Holmes stories aren't built on such inconsistencies the way RWBY is and that the fandom, outside of that fun, freely goes, "Oh yeah, the real answer here is that Doyle just forgot where he put the wound. He has a tendency to mess up lol." RWBY has the dual issue of both having lost a lot of goodwill and having a fandom that, far more than any other I've been in, pushes the idea that everything is planned. Everything is intentional. Just because an explanation doesn't exist on screen doesn't mean you can't think up one yourself and then there you go. That must be what RT intended all along. Because the alternative is acknowledging that RT is not doing a good job with this story. That is, in fact, the simplest explanation... but it's not the one fans want to hear. The Lamp's questions, OOC decisions to just carry it around so Neo can steal it, giving it right back to Cinder, Hazel being swayed just by seeing Jinn, Oscar not using the question, Cinder using it needlessly, it never falling into Emerald's hands despite continued insistence that fairy tale inspirations drive this plot (Penny)... all of it points to a writing team that's just making it up as they go, heedless of what they wrote before or what they might write in the future. Giving writers the benefit of the doubt is fantastic (god knows we all need it at times), but you reach a point where the audience can't write all that for them. If you need your audience to fill in that many gaps with headcanons they'll argue over for years, it's by no means incorrect or insulting to say, "Hey, the writers didn't do a good job here."

I don’t even know, it’s bizarre!

Basically my original point was that sometimes when people in fandom have a favorite character, they tend to bend over backwards to justify every single thing they’ve ever done. Or to explain why they’re Not Bad Actually.

This gets… thorny with the Millennium characters in Hellsing. I know the quick argument is to say “Well no one is claiming Millennium characters don’t suck.” Which true! The thing that fans seem to want to argue the most is that their faves aren’t actually Nazis. And what I see happen most often is people starting to add qualifiers about what makes a real Nazi, in order to absolve their anime characters. And it can, and often does, quickly slide into actual Nazi apologist rhetoric. You can get the typical “just following orders” type excuses and even more convoluted “well what does a swastika mean, really?” arguments.

Millennium characters are explicitly, in canon, literal WWII Nazis. When you start splitting hairs over that, it’s really uncomfortable!

And honestly I have seen a lot of it over the years. On tumblr, on reddit (sooo much on reddit jfc), on Discord servers— that I promptly left lmao. I have no intention though of randomly tagging people who I feel have posted distasteful things or getting into fights with them. I don’t have the time or the interest!

But that one person apparently felt the need to make their outrage over me complaining about something on my own blog into everyone’s problem. They seem determined to believe that I am like, personally harassing and policing anyone who likes Millennium characters? Anyway I literally could not care less who likes them, and that is not what I meant by Nazi apologism.

They’re definitely not characters I care about? I find them kind of boring and distasteful outside of their roles as villains/what they thematically represent for the other characters, so I don’t personally write fic or meta stuff about them. But like I’ve literally also made dumb shitposts and jokes about Millennium characters. I cannot state enough how much I do not care about someone deciding to RP as or write fic for them. I have a job, I pay taxes lmao. It’s not my problem.

Anyway I blocked that person so they’d stop trying to talk to me, and then instead they decided to do a weird callout post esque screencapping of my post thread, even though it’s literally all public and in a single post. I’m not sure what they’re trying to accomplish? But the entitlement and sealioning is incredibly funny.

Do you think they will become narrative foils? I noticed they were acting awkwardly around each other too (it kind of reminds me of how annoyed Soushi reacts around Maya) and she seems to have a crush on him 👀 I think she'll be used to contrast how he's still capable of redemption. 1/?

I mean Yui groomed them both successfully. They have shown to emulate her behavior, value their reputation over other people's feelings, and refuse to take accountability for their actions against Shin Ae and Nol. But unlike Kousuke, Alyssa has shown no hint of remorse or even guilt. 2/?

I think we are deliberately kept in the dark about Alyssa - whether it's to subvert the scheming girl trope, I'm not sure, but there's a lot of things we don't know about her and that's definitely on purpose. She's a character who probably won't be revealed more to us for a while yet, too, which is frustrating if only because I want to know everything NOW, but it does serve to make her more interesting.

Alyssa's interest in Kousuke is so obvious I can't believe I never noticed it in my original reads. I've seen this brushed off as "She just admires him" and I'm just like... she actually sulked for a moment about Kousuke leaving! Meanwhile she was straight up all but telling Nol she'll help him pack his bags lmao.

I feel like the cast of her shadow is deliberate, too, but look at that face. Sulking.

There's room to argue that we can't see Alyssa's face when she first tells him she won't stop him, but she kind of makes it abundantly clear that Nol being away doesn't really affect her. And, I mean, look at how their relationship is conducted. She's bragged to Meg that she and Nol are so casual and cool and easy breezy.

(I guess that means there ALSO is room to argue that Alyssa is putting on a front and just saying this to make sure people think her relationship is great, but the only People who know is Meg. And as a people pleaser, if Alyssa felt uncomfortable with the casual nature of her relationship with Nol, wouldn't she actually do more to make the relationship more of what she wants? Notably during the conversation on the balcony, she basically tells Nol this isn't really her dream relationship, which leads to the admission that they are together not for each other but for the benefits they each get so......)

Kousuke is the one who confuses me the most, because it strikes me as really weird that Yui has used Alyssa as leverage before against Kousuke. "You should bring a date, Kousuke, Alyssa will be there." What does this mean? What does it have to do with him and why would it entice him to bring anyone, anyway? I'm still really baffled on this one, tbh. Something that really stood out to me was during the dinner when Nol finally revealed he was planning to attend Oxford, Kousuke was distracted by his own news that the CFO position would be opening. In fact, when Nol mentions attending Oxford later, Kousuke seems to act like this is his first time hearing it.

Nol takes note of Kousuke's state of distraction before he finally starts talking about his plan.

The way quim does the dialogue and suddenly Kousuke's interest returning is.... interesting isn't it? From the moment Nol notes Kousuke's disinterest, we don't see his face again until Rand brings up Alyssa. Quim doesn't do anything without reason - in a movie, you wouldn't waste film on Kousuke's interesting returning at the mention of Alysa unless it meant anything, right?

There's so many little moments that make me go what the heck is going on here, too.

What the heck is up with THIS? Why does Kousuke deliberate SO LONG before he calls Alyssa? Like, do I think he's really so weirded out about calling his younger brother's girlfriend, considering he has one of his younger brother's own friends reporting on him and at his beck and call? You can't convince me that he's hesitant only because Alyssa is the sister of Meg. It just seems too wary.

And yes, this moment here?

It really does have the same tone as Soushi's wariness of Maya, except is Kousuke wary of Alyssa in the same way? Is he wary of her intentions? This one is so hard for me to read, because frankly, at this point it's hard to tell if Kousuke even cares about Nol as a brother or because he was forced to and he feels deep-buried remorse for the way he treated him and doesn't know how to handle it. Is he just aware of Alyssa's keen interest in him and that puts him on edge? Would he even care about Alyssa's keen interest unless she starts to get pushy?

I HONESTLY HAVE NO IDEA and frankly, it drives me nuts, so I love to discuss this and see what other people have to say. I'd never even noticed how long he deliberates before finally calling her until someone on reddit pointed that out.

lmao this so much preamble to get to the point but anyway YES they are absolutely parallels and I do wonder if they would become foils. Again, it's hard to know with Alyssa because we've been deliberately shielded so much of her personality right now and it's hard to tell what's real and what's not with her. The way that she worries about Shinae telling Nol what she did absolutely reads to me as a lack of remorse, but maybe I'm just projecting because we haven't been given much reason to like her lol. Shinae definitely makes it seem like Alyssa never actually apologized and the way Shinae just brushes it off makes me feel like there was never actual, proper closure. What Alyssa did is worse than just causing her injury: it was why she did it and how she reacted like Shinae was something dirty and how dare she even talk to her even though Shinae probably just wanted to know why Alyssa stopped being friends with her. Maybe she was even seeking closure at the time.

In the same way that Nol and Shinae are mirrors, Kousuke and Alyssa are their parallel abusers, grooming victims of Yui, those who care more about their image and reputation than anything else and have hurt others (Nol and Shinae) in their quest to fill the role. We still don't know if Alyssa dated Nol because she genuinely had a crush (doubtful so far) or because she figured out the family he's from and wanted to get closer. I try so hard to give her the benefit of the doubt but narratively we aren't privy to that yet. Also, have you noticed that Nol and Shinae both have a relationship of some kind with each others' abuser? This mirror and their parallel abusers thing is INTRICATELY woven.

That's what makes it so difficult to tell if she'll become a foil or merely a parallel that highlights what Nol and Shinae have been through. We know Kousuke will receive a redemption arc, because he's a main character, and also because I think part of subverting his trope is that he has to take responsibility for his past actions, rather than being loved in spite of the things he's done or whatever. In order for Kousuke to proper and develop further, he has to be held accountable and he has to break free of his family. Can we trust the same for Alyssa? At this point, she doesn't want to lose Nol because she knows if she loses him, she can just as easily lose her career and access to the world she's only just gained access to (and if she were to lose it all right now, it would be worse for her because she'd have all those trainee fees to pay back).

I think both Kousuke and Alyssa are likely in for a very public airing of their sins; for Kousuke it may come in the form of the expose YuJing is working on, collateral damage in the quest to take down Yui. I also think the only way to nudge Kousuke to change is that his image has to take a hit in some form. Is it that Rand isn't his father? Is it a reveal that he abused his brother? Is it whatever happened in the past that Nol got in trouble for was caused by Kousuke and he let Nol take the blame? Likewise, I think the fact that people knew Alyssa in middle school means she's not so safe, either; what if one of the girls from after school duty reveals what happened? Surely there were rumors going around school about what happened - Shinae is out of school, Alyssa is pulled from school, kids talk. Frankly, a scandal like that could ruin her career, and worse, if Nol knew what she had done, would he be able to remain shackled to her?

While I know Kousuke won't immediately take responsibility for his actions, I've always believed that such a catalyst would at least make him start thinking about it and force him to admit it. It wouldn't happen over night, but in time it will. But will Alyssa? Would she deny the allegations? Would she just shift blame, insist that it was all an accident, that it wasn't bullying like you think? (Cos look, I do believe it was an accident, but there's a way to call it an accident and still admit fault and blame; but just as easily you can call it an accident and try to shirk responsibility.)

I do love the idea of her being a foil for Kousuke, an Aesop's fable, if you will, of what happens when you barter with the devil (Yui). I'm not opposed to the scheming female character type, but I do oppose it when they take down others to raise themselves up, and if that's the way Alyssa will end up doing it, then I'll be happy to watch her fall. If she can scheme and use her connections without hurting people then hey power to ya. Unlike Alyssa, Kousuke never had a chance to evade Yui, and being able to walk away from her as an adult will be a choice he can make. Alyssa loses... so much if she breaks her deal.

I guess that's the thing about where she and Nol are in their relationship now - it's been made clear he's hanging in here because he's forced to and as a sort of act of self-sabotage, full well knowing she's here because she's taking advantage of the opportunities that "dating" him brings so... if they're in an agreement, is it okay to watch her climb right now? She leaves me conflicted and I know it's largely because she's one of the characters we know just enough to hate but so little to justify. Could it be that it all just got out of hand for her? At first she just wanted friends, was trying to find a place to belong, something good in a life that deprived her of social connections. And then comes along Yui, seducing her with ideas of fame and fortune? Was the desire to be loved and admired so strong it powered over the need to fit in with friends and she readily cast them off? Did she not anticipate what it would actually mean, thought she could have her cake and eat it, too? The way she responds to Nol's texts, and the fact that Dieter and Soushi ask him about her, means she probably isn't even in touch with them at all anymore. Idk, I really look forward to seeing their dynamic pre-idol Alyssa, because I want to know how she fit with them, what was it like?

And then, because this was supposed to be about foils lmao you have the fact that Shinae basically foils both Alyssa and Kousuke in regard to Nol, both as a person who cares about him and also as "a good friend" vs "the person I'm currently seeing" lmao like, everyone is literally set to juxtapose each other and man, I'll never get over how well this has been done lmao. Compared to Kousuke and Alyssa, Shinae is the one who accepts responsibility even when it's difficult, who knows when and how to swallow her pride (even if she's not the one who should) and I think it's why she is the one seen a the champion at Nol's side - they are the ones who care little for their images and who know how to apologize (even when they aren't the ones who should be) and that's why they are at each other's sides.

So yes, this is a very long essay response lol to essentially say: I'm still undecided if I think Alyssa will become a foil or merely remain a parallel. I would love to see her redeem herself but something tells me not all characters in this story will be redeeamable. Maybe one day we'll understand her motivation, even if we don't agree with it. I hope at the very least she makes peace with Shinae, but I get the feeling she'll be forced into it (as in, her secret gets ousted) and that's not as satisfying, but hey, if it helps Shinae then I'm for it.

A friend of mine has mused that maybe Alyssa will be the one to oust the secret herself and I'm ngl, I like that idea though it does feel kind of vindictive towards her character. Maybe accidentally spilling it to Nol would be the segue to a couple episodes from her POV though!

Gosh this was so long I'm so sorry lmao but please follow up with your thoughts and feelings, too, or if this made you think of anything or what! I think at this point in the story we've been given a lot of information but we just don't have enough of it to totally piece together what we're supposed to be seeing. I think Kousuke and Alyssa's weirdness around each other is very deliberate, though, and I'm not sure "She's Meg's sister" is enough to warrant so many panels of Kou being SO WEIRD about her, you know? Am I missing thing? Is there more to be revealed? Are we just blind? lmao Aaaahhhhhhhhhhh

SDs actually have a lot more yin than DCs despite them being placed closer to dramatic in a lot of graphs. (you know the ones i’m talking about)

even if you could make an argument for vertical line (as i think doyoung has a moderate to long one)

kai (a DC/C) is over 180 and yes he has a vertical line, but he has more yang than doyoung - hes just more boxy and has less yin

when i’m having trouble typing an idol i start looking really heavily at outfits and how they suit each style

doyoung just doesn’t make classic suits pop in the way a DC would

he looks restricted and needs a little extra yin detail to match 

the neck scarf with the draping absolutely ties this look together and he absolutely rocks it
