2 months ago, to the day
Your eyes met his piercing blue eyes in the garage once again. It had been a month since you slept with Pierre and you haven’t stopped thinking about it. The way he stared at you as he fucked you was the exact same way he was glaring at you across the paddock. Needy and desperate.
You shook yourself back into focus and listened as Max’s strategist reiterated today’s race strategy but you couldn’t help daydreaming about what that man could do in bed.
You drowned out the conversation about tyres and looked over to Alpha Tauri at the perfect time. Pierre had his bottom lip between his teeth while he examined his car. He ran his hand slowly over the chassis seductively like he knew you were watching. His fingers grazed the metal in painstakingly slow circles. After he removed his hand from the car was when he caught your eyes. He gave you a smirk, not even a smile, and turned away. It was good to know that you weren’t the only one thinking about what happened.
The race started and you were in the garage, cheering on Max. He had started second on the grid but due to a first lap incident, he was fifth. He was not going to be happy after the race. He can tolerate if he fucks up but having other people interfere with his race is something he takes particularly hard.
Pierre’s car came up behind Max’s around a corner and got too close for comfort. Max jerked his steering wheel too much as he tried to turn, sending Pierre’s car straight into the barriers.
You stood up out of your seat and gasped. Everyone in the garage was relieved to see Max still racing and no one seemed to be concerned about Pierre. You took off your Red Bull Racing branded headphones and slammed them on the table before rushing over to the Alpha Tauri garage.
Anna was seated in her chair, looking worried, but not enough for you. She should be close to tears like you were.
“Have you heard anything from him?” You asked and Anna looked up, almost annoyed.
“He’s conscious,” his race engineer said, “but hurting.” You heard the groan come through followed by a bunch of curse words. He apologized profusely for his move but it was all Max’s fault.
You watched on Alpha Tauri’s monitors as the race was red flagged and decided to head back to Red Bull’s garage. “Let me know when you hear something,” you said to Anna. She nodded and looked back down to her phone. Fucking bitch. Her attitude made you not even feel bad about sleeping with her husband. She didn’t deserve him.
Max walked back to the garage looking like a life size bobble head with his heavy helmet swinging around. “Is Pierre okay?” He asked, sounding genuinely concerned.
“He’s conscious. He took a nasty hit.”
“I know, I feel bad. I didn’t mean to, the steering wheel just got away from me. I saw him crash in my rear view mirror.”
You were visibly shaken and Max always knew the right things to say when you weren’t feeling okay.
“He’s gonna be okay,” Max said, rubbing your back.
You nodded in agreement. “I know he will. I’m going to check on him at the medical center once the race starts again.”
Max smiled at you. “That would be good. Make sure you tell him I’m sorry.”
An engineer put his hand on Max’s shoulder and shoved a spreadsheet full of data in his face. He shrugged his shoulders and walked with the engineer to the monitors.
It wasn’t long before the race got underway again. Max made it up to third, podium position, but there were still at least 30 laps left. You started the trek through the paddock and over to the medical center. You were just a bit too late as you saw Pierre walking out down the ramp. He smiled when he saw you approach him.
“How ya feeling champ?” You asked him.
“I’m a bit sore thanks to your husband.”
Your face fell. “He sends his apologies. I promise he was actually remorseful.”
“Max? Remorseful? What did you do to him?”
You laughed. Max did have a temper and tended to be extra competitive but he had formed a special bond with Pierre these last few years. They weren’t friends by any means but they helped each other out whenever possible. This was one of the times that it wasn’t possible.
“He does genuinely feel bad, Pierre.”
“I know he does, it was a racing incident. I saw the footage.” He limped slightly through the paddock and winced when he put pressure on his left leg. “I think I should go lay down for a bit.” He took another step and lost his balance. You grabbed his arm and held him, making sure he stayed steady.
“This is it right here,” he pointed to his motor home.
“Do you want me to help you up there? I don’t want you to fall.” You said with a soft smile on your face. How could he resist your offer of help?
“Sure,” he limped over to the door and you aided him up a few stairs. “Shouldn’t you be watching the rest of the race? Last I checked, Max was doing really well.”
He sat down on the luxe white leather couch in exhaustion and you sat at the table across from him. “He wanted to make sure you’re okay. He’ll be fine.” You looked around the motorhome, observing your surroundings to seem busy. “So Anna’s nice…” you said, followed by a laugh. You had known Anna for a few months now. Their wedding was right before the season started and you really hadn’t known her much before then either. She tended to keep to herself and you wanted to respect that.
“She can be a bit…”
“Yeah, I know. I went to check on you after the crash and she looked like she wanted me dead.”
“In her defense, she caught me checking out your ass this morning. She was not very happy with me after that.”
You leaned forward to give him a light smack. “Pierre!” You shook your head in disappointment. “What did she think of the way you were practically fingering your car this morning?”
He played fake shy. “Oh, you saw that?”
“You make my heart beat crazy fast.” You admitted, putting your hand to your chest. “That didn’t help.”
“Well, as long as you enjoyed yourself.”
Enjoy yourself you did. He was in his same fireproofs from earlier and you were sure he didn’t know how turned on they made you. They were pulled down to his waist, the sleeves hanging low off his hips. His white undershirt was tight to his body, putting his abs on full display. His legs were spread wide, inviting you in. Was it hot in there? Was the air conditioning on?
He ran his hands over his abdomen and leaned his head back, staring at the ceiling. He groaned, sounding like he was in pain, frustrated, and horny at the same time.
Why did he have to be so unbelievably irresistible to you? When you were around him it was almost impossible to contain yourself. There was a magnetic force dragging you to him constantly. You moved yourself to sit next to him, earning his attention and popping his head up.
“You look really hot right now,” you giggled to yourself. He made you feel like a teenager experiencing her first love. The nerves were through the roof.
“Well, I feel hot.” He looked around the walls of the motorhome. “Where the hell is the air conditioning and who turned it off?”
You let out a sigh of relief. “Oh thank god it’s not just me.” He looked over at you examined your face. He placed his hand on your red cheeks. “You’re flushed.”
When he touched you, a chill ran through your body. Your body felt on fire and he had the power to send a freezing cold chill through it all.
“My cheeks get really red when I get nervous.” You blushed even more having to admit that. It was your least favorite characteristic of yourself. Everyone always knew flat out when you were nervous.
“I can’t tell if it makes you look cute, like I want to hug you, or if I want to fuck you.” His hand still rested on your cheek as he looked back and forth between your eyes and lips. “You look so god damn innocent. Like I could totally ruin you with just a few minutes alone.” His thumb ran over your lower lip and you instinctively stuck your tongue out to meet his thumb. He took the opportunity to put his thumb in your mouth and you suctioned around it, keeping eye contact with him. “Y/n,” he breathlessly begged, “please.”
His lips crashed to yours, feeling warm and secure the moment they touched. His hands held your neck and you moaned into his mouth, forgetting what it felt like to be touched by him.
He hoisted you onto his lap, wincing a bit when you grazed his knee. His hands fit perfectly in the curves of your waist as he pulled you closer to him, grinding your hips. “Don’t do this to me,” he said into your neck.
“Why not?” You said cheekily.
“We don’t have much time.” You almost forgot that there was a race going on right now.
“I can be quick.” You hopped off of him and locked the motorhome door as he undressed out of his fireproofs. He looked so good in his white suit but he looked even better naked. You slipped off your underwear and hoisted your sundress up to your waist before going back to his lap.
He guided your body on top of his, settling you down as you took all of him in, deep. “Shit. A condom.” You said, after the bare feeling of him inside of you set in. God did it feel good but it wasn’t right.
“I don’t think I have any in here.” He said. “I promise I’ll pull out. I need you so bad.” He lightly bit your nipple through your sundress.
“I will kill you if you’re lying to me.” You started to move your hips and moaned at the sensation. He felt so good filling you up all the way.
He took your ass in his hands and started to bounce you up and down on his cock. “That’s it baby, just like that.” He said, admiring your movements. “Fuck me like a good girl.”
Your head fell forward, the feeling running through your body getting almost unbearable to handle.
“Jesus, Pierre, you feel so good.” You pulled your hair into a makeshift ponytail and arched your back, feeling like all eyes were on you in the best way possible.
He watched you in awe as you rode his cock without a care in the world. “Your pussy is so tight baby. So tight for me.” A breathy moan escaped his lips and his face looked like he was in pure bliss. There’s nowhere else he would rather be.
“Shit, shit, I’m gonna come.” He said, panicking. You rushed to get off of him as you saw the liquid pool on his abs.
“Did you…?”
“I don’t think I got any inside of you.”
You took a deep breath to collect your thoughts. God, you hoped not.

Soft Male Presenting NB Satyr x Male Reader
Dakota
Warnings: Dakota get comforted by you after a sudden breakup and you end up confessing, they realized they like you too, mentions of alcohol (tho not explicitly stated other than beer), two faced boyfriend (now ex)
Masterlist
---------------------------------------------------------
Tumblr media
Currently, you are on your way to third wheel for your best friend, Dakota. This guy that Dakota was dating was one that you really did not like. He was all sweet and kind around Dakota but the second they turned their back, he was a complete jerk. You knew you should tell Dakota but they just looked so happy being with this guy that you didn't want to ruin this momentary happiness.
Anyhow, both of you were walking down the street to a small yet busy pub that he had asked Dakota to meet. Dakota had asked him if you could come and he said yes but you knew he would have said no if that didn't ruin his "perfect boyfriend" image. You developed feelings for Dakota years ago, long into your friendship with him but you never confessed. You knew they didn't feel the same so you decided to just try to be the very best friend you could be.
Dakota pointed out the place you two were going and you followed them up to the front door. You opened it for them and they almost instantly spot their boyfriend, going over to him and hugging him. You smiled a sad smile and looked at the two before joining them at their table. He had sent Dakota off to get drinks for the three of you. "How have you been (R/n)?" He looks over to you with a not glare for once. "I'm breaking up with him."
Your eyes widened slightly. "What?" He nods. "Yeah I got hit pretty hard in the face with reality after the last time we met." His whole demeanor had changed from what it was before. You tried to say something but Dakota came back with a beer bottle and two glasses. They set one of the glasses down in front of you and handed the bottle to their soon to be ex who's demeanor went back to perfect boyfriend mode.
You smiled at Dakotas smile before taking a drink of what they got you. "Ah, (R/n)! Did you see the new episode yesterday? It was so good!" Dakota said before going on to ramble about bits and pieces. (R/n) smiled and nodded, chatting about said episode with Dakota.
A few minutes had past with the three of you talking before (R/n) decided it was time to bring the bad news. "Dakota." They looked up to (R/n) who looked like he just accidentally kicked a puppy. Dakota noticed and went to grab his hands to ask what's wrong but he pulled away. You looked away out of courtesy but still listened in. "I'm sorry Dakota. I dont think we can be together anymore. Its really me, not you. You've been nothing but good to me and I want you to be happy but it can't be with me."
"Maybe we'll see each other around. Don't worry about paying for drinks, I'll cover it on the way out." He said standing up to leave. Dakota couldn't seem to process what what happening as they watched their now ex-boyfriend walk away. "Kota, let's go." You said standing and grabbing their hand.
They didn't move but instead started to shake slightly. "Dakota, please." You pulled them up and practically dragged them out of the pub and stopped when you were a block away from it. Dakota hadn't said a word but held on tightly to your hand. "Do you wanna go back to your house?" You asked, looking to them. They nodded softly, more hair moving to cover their usually covered eyes.
You squeezed their hand gently as the two of you walked back to Dakotas place. It wasn't too far from the pub so neither of you saw the point in taking the car. After a few minutes of walking, Dakota stopped, making you look back. "Im... S-so sorry... I... I cant..." They tried to say something but ended up almost collapsing, legs shaking like crazy. You caught them before they could and opted to carry them the rest of the way.
Dakota holds onto you and cries into your neck. You gently rub the back of their head and whisper reassuring words into their ears. After a few more minutes of walking, you make it to the house and carefully unlock the door and close it behind you before taking them upstairs to their bedroom. "I'll go grab some water. I'll be right back ok?"
You head back down stairs, lost in thought as you grabbed water from the fridge before heading back up. You didn't expect to see what you did though.
Your body stood ridgid with shock. Standing in front of you, staring back with wild and afraid eyes was your best friend of 5 years. They looked like they were wearing pants but they weren't. Their legs were covered in dark brown fur, same colour as their hair. Your eyes followed the soft digitigrade shape down to the cloven hooves in place of feet. A small tail to match laid tight against their body.
"Dakota..?"
You breathed out hesitantly. They seemed to snap out of whatever trance they were in for a moment and they started to shake. "Hey... Hey whats wrong?" You asked as you very slowly approached them, as if the wrong step could send them sprinting away. They didn't say a word and you eventually got to their side. You very carefully grabbed their hand but they pulled it away faster than you could blink.
They looked at you with such fear that you could barely even tell if it was your sweet Dakota anymore. A tense moment passed as you had seen his eyes for the first time. You gently took their hand again and pressed their palm against your chest. They could feel your heart pounding, theirs was probably just as fast. You and Dakota had this thing where if one of you were panicking, the other would place a hand on the heart of the one whos panicking. It usually ended with a hug but it was really just a comfort thing that Dakota had started with you when they had a panic attack in public. Once they had seemed to realized, some lever must have flipped as they pulled you into a tight hug.
"(Y/n)..."
You hugged them back, gently placing a hand on the back of their head to keep them close. A silent minute had past before you felt your shoulder getting wet again. "I'm so sorry." It was barely a whisper but you heard it. Neither of you said a word after that. Dakota pulled their head out from the crook of your neck and rested their forehead against your chest.
"I didn't want you to find out like this..." Their voice was small as they spoke, hands gripping tightly to the back of your shirt. You carefully set a hand on their cheek, coaxing them to look up to you. Their eyes were red and slightly puffy from crying. The bright green, almost yellow irises stood out against their pink-ish scleras. "Your eyes are so beautiful." You mumbled out without thinking.
Dakota blushed and looked away. "I know you probably don't wanna talk so let's sit down and I'll go first." You lead them over to the bed and both of you sat down. "Judging by your reaction you didn't want me knowing about the whole... Lower half thing." You paused to look at Dakota who nodded. "Sorry." You said, still processing everything. Dakota shook their head. "N-no... I..."
"I don't know what to say..." Dakota said with a heavy sigh. "It's ok. You don't have to say anything-" They cut you off before you could continue. "(Y/n) I've lied to you for 5 years about it! Of course I have to say something!" You looked away from them and sighed. "I would be lying if I said it didn't upset me that you never told me what you were." Without hesitation, you grabbed Dakotas hand again, staring at it as they let you intertwine your fingers. "But I always had a feeling you weren't exactly human anyways... Of course I wanted to know but I didn't want you to feel uncomfortable around me."
Dakota looked to your eyes, tears welling up in theirs again. You could see that they wanted to apologize for not saying anything but you just shook your head. "Kota, I could care less that your a Satyr. If anything I like you even more." You mumbled the last part but they still heard it anyway, signaled by the blush that rose to their cheeks yet again. Dakota placed their free hand on your cheek and made you look back to them.
"I love you so fucking much Kota. You don't even know. I'm sorry. This is probably a lot on top of me finding out about probably your biggest secret and the... Y'know." Dakota shook their head. "Its all been so overwhelming. I'm honestly surprised I haven't passed out yet." You let a small huff of a laugh pass as they pulled your face closer to theirs. "You seemed to have calmed down a lot." You mumbled out.
Dakota nodded. "Yeah. I guess I'm... Relieved... I've known you long enough that I know you when you aren't feigning truths." They pause for a moment. You took this moment to observe their tear stained face. "(Y/n). I dont ever want you to leave me." Their voice had been shaky since you found out about them being a Satyr but it was even worse when they said that. "I couldn't truly live if you weren't in my life Kota."
They looked at you with wide eyes. "Sorry, said something weird didnt-" You were cut off by a pair of soft lips against yours. You carefully kissed back, tangling your hand in their soft, fuffy hair. The second both of you pulled away, Dakota smiled and pulled you into a tight hug. "Kota-" "I think him breaking up with me was the best decision ever." You furrowed your brows, really confused.
"What? Why? I though you two were happy together." Dakota nodded. "I was happy. But I also saw how unhappy you were. A-and it made me realize... Just how much I wanted to make you happy because you make me happy." You couldn't say anything but just looked at them with surprise. "Can I... Can I kiss you?" You asked quietly. Dakota laughed and nodded, pulling you into a kiss.
Your hands decided to test the waters a bit and you gently ran a hand through the soft fur that coat their leg. They shivered and gripped onto your shirt, leaning into the kiss more. You pulled away and let your hand linger on their thigh. "Did... Did you really mean it when you said that you liked me more knowing I was a Satyr?" You blushed and laughed awkwardly while looking away. "Yeah... I didn't realize I said that out loud."
Dakota let out a gentle laugh and pulled you into a tight hug. "Let's take a nap, I'm tired after crying so much..." You nodded and kissed their neck softly as the two of you laid down.
"Please stay by my side."
I originally started this one shot at the paragraph that starts at "Your body stood ridgid with shock." so sorry if everything above it seemed weird-

Internet crush au i love the thought that both percy and annabeth try to subtly flirt with each other whist being an ocean apart on youtube (and all of they’re followers know they’re simps) idk just a thought for if you’re still wanting prompts ❤️❤️
oceans apart: percabeth internet crush au
“Not again.”
Annabeth rolled her eyes, pointedly sipping her cup of coffee and ignoring Piper’s whine for attention.
“You’re ridiculous.”
“I’m not sure what you’re referring to,” Annabeth lies.
“Oh, so you’re not sparking up an online romance with the infamous Percy Jackson?”
Annabeth hums, taking another slow sip of her drink. “I am merely responding to his message.”
“Over twitter. In front of millions of people.”
Annabeth snorts, staring at the phone in hand. It was true, really. Somehow, Annabeth had managed to gain quite a big following on youtube during her years spent studying at Oxford, and at some point, a guy from UCLA took an interest in her. It had been pretty hilarious, especially to the millions of people watching her every move, and she just hadn’t been able to put a stop to the online flirting, which is precisely why she was flirting with a man that was oceans apart from her.
“You’re never even met this man,” Piper points out.
“That’s what makes it fun,” Annabeth says. “An online romance. Who doesn’t love it?”
“I’m not saying no one loves it because this is the best thing to happen in all of the twenty-first century, but he’s in California, and you’re not.”
“It’s all fun and games,” Annabeth says.
“Yeah, right.”
Annabeth blinks. “Do you have something you’d like to tell me?”
“You two are practically in love with each other.”
Annabeth flushes. “Are not.”
“What are you typing then?”
Annabeth looks down at the thread being sent back and forth between the two popular youtubers. By this point, their entire conversation was being filled with hundreds of thousands of people having mental breakdowns, thinking the two were actually going to get together.
Not that she would mind that. No, she hadn’t seen him in person, but they’re practically best friends, and he’s a huge sweetheart.
“Nothing.”
“Lies,” Piper says, snatching the phone. “Percy tweeted ‘honey, I think you and I should get married.’”
“He’s kidding.”
“You responded, ‘come to the UK and I’ll consider it.’”
“It’s all just some good-natured fun.”
“He responded, ‘give me a kiss?’ and you said, ‘show up alive, and then we’ll see.’”
Annabeth snickers, snatching her phone back. “You’re reading too far into this.”
“No, I’m not. You two are just in love with each other.”
“You are incorrect, actually.”
Piper raises an eyebrow. “Oh, yeah? What about last week when he uploaded the video that was literally spent listing off the reasons you should marry him?”
“Publicity stunt. It got millions of views.”
“You’re in love with him.”
Annabeth pinches her fingers. “Only a little bit, but no one has to know.”
“Oh, honey, everyone knows.”
A part of her floods with warmth. Ever since he’d first left a comment on one of her videos, their friendship had blossomed. It was just what they did — uploading videos just to tease one another and accept marriage proposals. He’s probably proposed five times by this point, and Annabeth has jokingly accepted five times.
They were the unofficially-official couple as people like to put it, and it was a lovely arrangement in her opinion.
Annabeth’s phone vibrates in her hand, and when she looks down, she sees Percy telling her, bought a plane ticket. on my way babe.
“Oh god,” Piper groans, looking over Annabeth’s shoulder as another smile breaks out across Annabeth’s face. “You two disgust me.”
“That’s funny, considering you admitted that you were our biggest shipper.”
Piper gasps. “Who told you?”
“Jason told Percy who told me.”
“Betrayal.”
“Precisely.” Annabeth hums. “We should be going soon. I have to get another video up in two days and you promised you’d help me.”
“What is it this time? Writing the perfect love letter to Percy?”
“Making a shrine to Percy,” Annabeth corrects.
“You’re kidding.”
“I wish I was,” Annabeth says. “It was his idea.”
“Of course it was,” Piper mutters, but she’s already scooting her chair away from the table of the café and standing up. “Let’s get going then, you booger.”
The walk back to their shared apartment was filled with Piper’s rants about a certain two careless youtubers, and the video Annabeth dragged Piper to film was no different. All things considered though, it went quite well. It might as well be a shitpost, but it was interesting enough and would have to suffice.
The video did take a lot longer to film than expected, so by the time Annabeth was finally ready to go on with the day, it was almost midnight.
“This sucks,” Annabeth says, peeking out the window at the dark sky.
“It’s no big deal.” Piper stretches and yawns, and Annabeth thinks she may fall asleep right there. “London never sleeps so we can still go out.”
“You’re practically drooling already.”
“We have things to do. People to see.”
Annabeth scrunches her brows. “Who?”
“People,” Piper says ominously. As she sits up, she looks Annabeth up and down before shrugging, which doesn’t do much to help her confidence. “You look good enough. Let’s go.”
Piper barely gives Annabeth time to process what was happening before she was being dragged out the door. Realistically, Piper did give her like five minutes to grab a few things, but it felt like no time at all because Piper refused to say anything besides they were meeting up with some friends at a cozy diner in the middle of the city.
The walk there was a bit chilly, so as Annabeth tightens her long black peacoat around her body, she glances at Piper out of the corner of her eye.
“So,” Annabeth says, sniffling and rubbing her nose to soothe the sharp bite of wind. “Would you mind telling me why we’re heading to the city? We never go out late. That’s, like, our motto.”
“You looked cute today, and it would be a shame to waste that by just staying in.” Piper grabs Annabeth’s hand and laces their fingers together to swing their arms back and forth. “I must say I’m loving the white sweater and black jeans. My fashion is rubbing off on you.”
“What fashion?”
“I hate you.”
By the time they finally reach the diner, Annabeth’s fingers and toes are numb, but the view was definitely worth it. Annabeth’s surprised she hadn’t ever seen this place before after having lived here for almost four years, but it’s no surprise Piper knew of it. There were fairy lights strewn up around the outer portion of the restaurant, and there was gentle music flowing through the air. Even though it was cold, the image of this place was a drastic difference, and it melted the aching in her bones.
Piper leads Annabeth to a table outside, and Annabeth is hardly surprised to see Jason waiting for them. He stands up to give each of the girls a quick hug, before they all settle into their respective seats.
“You brought me here to be a third wheel? Is that what this is?” Annabeth says playfully as she sits.
“You and I both know that I’m the real third wheel here,” Jason says kindly. “But maybe it’s Piper, because she’s the only one here who doesn’t make videos.”
“I don’t need to because I was lucky enough to have my best friend introduce me to another youtuber,” Piper says.
“You should be thanking me for your relationship,” Annabeth tells the two of them. “Without me, you would’ve never found the love of your life.”
Jason’s eyes gleam. “And how about you? Have you found the love of your life?”
“I can’t say that I have.”
“I saw the messages between you and Percy earlier,” Jason says. “It was a beautiful proposal, really.”
“I try.”
“When you meet him, you should consider eloping.”
“That’s if I meet him,” Annabeth corrects.
“Of course. My apologies.” Jason grins, and Annabeth is slightly unnerved. “You would make a cute couple.”
“How so?”
“You two are the biggest simps for each other,” Jason says.
“Told you so,” Piper chimes in.
“I’m going to leave if you two brought me here just to insult me.” Annabeth looks beside herself and her eyes focus on the empty chair. “Are we waiting for someone else?”
“I invited a friend, but I’m not sure where he is,” Jason says. “They must be running late.”
“Who is it?”
“Oh, I’m not sure if you’d know them,” he dismisses.
Piper and Jason begin talking again, but Annabeth tunes them out. If she was going to be forced to sit with stranger while Piper and Jason snogged in front of them, then she would be severely unhappy.
Annabeth doesn’t know what to expect, but she does know that she should be worried when Piper and Jason share a conspicuous glance with each other before heading off to the bar, under the excuse of getting them some drinks.
Annabeth groans, lacing her hands together on the table in front of her. She was definitely starting to regret this decision of joining Piper on her midnight adventure, not that it was much of a decision at all. She was dragged alongside her, and if she could go back in time, she would probably end up pushing Piper off a bridge to stop this utter boredom from taking over.
All things considered though, it’s not too terrible. She might be able to drink the night away and forget all this happened, and—
“Babe!”
Annabeth’s head snaps up because of the voice. It was a voice she’d recognize anywhere.
She whirls around in her chair, and right there, standing in all his glory, was Percy Jackson.
Percy holds his arms out as he approaches her, and Annabeth laughs as she stumbles up to give him a crushing hug. They stay like that for a few seconds, and it feels like it should be awkward because they’d never actually met before, but it just feels like a piece of a puzzle if fitting into place.
“What are you doing here?” Annabeth asks, grinning as she pulls away and tilts her chin to look up at him. From here, he’s a lot taller than she expected, and he looks so much better in person than on camera, which says a lot.
“I’m here for our wedding!” Percy smiles cheekily, pulling her in for another quick hug before stepping back and just looking at her. She feels warm and fuzzy under his gaze. “Don’t tell me you’ve already forgotten.”
“Of course I haven’t,” she says, playing along. “But why are you really here?”
“I wanted to see my beautiful girlfriend.”
Annabeth bites her bottom lip, holding back a laugh. “I don’t recall agreeing to this.”
“You agreed to marry me, so I think that means we’re dating.”
“Yeah, but we both know we were messing around.”
Percy clicks his teeth, his eyes sparkling. “I don’t know. You did respond when I called you babe, so…”
“I guess I did.” Annabeth looks over at where Piper and Jason had disappeared off to. They were taking their sweet time, and suddenly Annabeth realized that it was for a reason, and that they knew all along. She doesn’t know whether to thank them or punch them. “It looks like they’re not coming back anytime soon.”
“Yeah,” he agrees. “That might be because I asked them to let me have you all to myself for a while.”
“You did?”
“Of course I did.” Percy stares at her for a while, and she stares back. It feels like she’s known him for all of her life, and she never wants this moment to end. So long talking over the phone and sending messages through videos, and they were finally alone, just the two of them, and it was so much better than she could’ve imagined.
“I’m not sure what to do now,” Annabeth admits as Percy takes a step closer, like he’s done it a million times. Soon, his face is inches away from hers.
“I have an idea,” Percy tells her quietly, his green eyes vibrant in the dim lighting of the outdoor patio.
“And what’s that?”
“Go on a date with me.”
Annabeth tilts her head, lips lifting in a coy smile. “I thought we were already engaged?”
“I’m still working towards that kiss,” he says, and his smile is blinding.
A beat skips, and she can’t help herself, and then—
“Who says you have to wait?”
Annabeth doesn’t know what prompts her to step forwards, but she does anyways, and her stomach flutters when he does the same. There was just something about this situation that seems so familiar, and she trusts him, probably more than she should. But this was Percy, and she knew him. He wouldn’t hurt her.
Percy’s hands go to cup her face, his fingers gently tracing over her skin, cold in the London winter, and there is a blazing heat in her body. For a second, they look into each other’s eyes, and then both of their eyes are fluttering shut as Percy brings her face to his and kisses her sweetly.
It’s slow and gentle, and somehow, she can see a future with them. This has been building up since she first saw his kind words on her video, and it was strengthened through their twitter declarations of love and youtube proposals. She shouldn’t feel like this, but she does, and that’s okay.
He pulls away but his hands stay in place. His smile is so breathtaking, and it fits so well with the delicate snowflakes that started falling and the pretty glow of the fairy lights.
“What do you say?” Percy asks. “I’ll take you on the date of your life.”
“And then you’ll marry me?”
“What’s a date if it doesn’t end in marriage?”
Annabeth’s lips twitch up, and she brushes a strand of her blowing hair behind her ear. She really liked him, and she just knew that it would be alright. He was in Los Angeles and she was in London, and they were oceans apart, but it would be okay.
“I’m holding you to that,” she says, and so he takes her hand, and leads her on the date of a lifetime.

Once Bitten, Twice Stupid prt.79
Running late to pick Curtis and Shiro up, Lance blamed Kosmo. The puppy making off with one of his shoes, while he was trying to find his missing pants. Curtis had sounded drunk, Shiro even more so. Lance hadn’t expected them to get plastered on their date, but with a rare night to themselves, he felt both of them totally deserved to relax. Promising to wait for them out the front of the hotel whose restaurant was where they’d gone for their date, neither of them were waiting out the front thanks to the light drizzling rain.
Heading into the lobby with his boyfriend, Keith unimpressed they were walking around in their “pyjamas” in such a rich looking place. They’d fallen into a doze cuddling after doing a little physical making up more than once. Lance’s hips were sore and his smile gentle towards his annoyed boyfriend. The vampire really loved it when Keith he’d him by his hips, and he really loved making up with his boyfriend. So that gentle smile was purely for Keith. Wearing sweats, he’d had to borrow because lord only knew where his pants, and oversized shirt in a hotel lobby made him feel like a dork. They were clearly underdressed when compared to the ornate Art Deco feel of the place. Sighing, Keith pulled out his phone, both of them moving out of the main thoroughfare to stand closer to the wall
“I’m gonna try calling Curtis again”
Lance nodded. The place really didn’t seem like they should walk further in. He wouldn’t be surprised if the receptionist had already called the cops on them, but all the money that went into such a fancy place didn’t really show on the outside with the rain coming in under the fronts plastic roofing. As Keith talked to Curtis, Lance’s smile started to waver. Not completely sure why, something pricked at his senses. The feeling annoying, as there seemed nothing wrong with their surrounds, and extra annoying as he couldn’t figure out why he was annoyed.
“They’re on their way. They went and sat in the lounge to wait for us thanks to the rain”
Lance almost thanked god out loud
“Babe?”
Humming, Lance pushed his smile back into place
“Sorry. I was totally zoning out”
Keith slipped his phone back in his pocket, Lance trying not to look as the small amount of weight tugged down Keith’s sweats. They’d already fooled around enough that now the couch and the bathroom were christened. He didn’t feel like he was in heat, but he could definitely appreciate Keith’s body, especially this hips showing above the hem of his sweats
“They could have at least texted”
Lance nodded, casting a glance around as he wondered where the hotel lounge was
“Babe?”
Whoops. He didn’t want Keith to worry over some niggling feeling he didn’t know how to explain
“I’m fine. Just tired”
“Are you sure? I mean...”
“I’m fine. Not even that sore... I mean, I’m not sore, but you know...”
Lance was blushing now. He could almost feel Keith’s hands on his hips. Maybe it was a kink? Yet, he only wanted Keith to do it, so he wasn’t sure it counted
“I know it’s harder on you than it is on me”
“Vampire stamina, babe. I’m okay. This place looks nice”
Keith frowned at the topic change, but went along with it
“It looks expensive”
“I don’t know how people feel comfortable in a place like this. I like the hotel we went to better”
“Mmm. Me too. Curtis did want things to be special. Their dinner probably cost what I make in a week”
Did Keith worry about that with him? That he couldn’t impress Lance with a low budget? Lance had his own money. He’d prefer something casual
“I don’t think I could do that. Spend that much on a meal. I’d rather get a room and room service”
“Do you want to do something like that for your birthday?”
Lance bit down his sigh. He didn’t want to discuss his birthday
“Can I think about it?”
“Sure... I get that you don’t like it, but... I want to do something with you”
Pidge and Hunk would probably want to do something
“I know. Please no 18 again parties. If Pidge and Hunk start on it, can you loop me in so I can not be there. Oh, there’s Shiro”
Curtis and Shiro were a welcome distraction. They were sober enough to walk straight, which was a relief
“Sorry! The rain started and Shiro was getting wet”
Curtis looked good. Both of them were suited up. Curtis had styled his hair a little differently thanks to his horn. The look suited him. The few flakes of dandruff on his shoulder were barely noticeable when you looked at Curtis as a whole being
“It’s fine. Can we go now?”
Ruffling Keith’s hair, Shiro laughing at Keith’s huffy tone
“You’ve got to get used to places like this one day. You can’t just take Lance to cheap hotels”
Keith deflated, Lance wrapping his arm around his boyfriend’s waist
“Actually, he can. I really don’t mind where we go”
“Still. You do have a birthday coming up...”
“Lance would rather not talk about his birthday. It’s a sensitive subject when he doesn’t age”
Lance supposed he deserved that for confiding in Curtis. Shiro’s happiness didn’t waver, the hunter nodding understandingly
“I suppose after a while it gets repetitive. We always baked a cake for Keith’s birthday when I could. He always ate it. No matter how much he disliked it”
“Fuck off”
His little anger loaf wasn’t impressed. Lance keeping his arm around him as they moved towards the door.
That was because Shiro had made it his cake for him, Keith would always eat it like it was the best cake ever made. Lance knew those feelings well. This year Hunk would want to bake a cake for Keith, so Lance’d have to let him know not to. As Shiro brushed past him, Lance caught a whiff of vampire clinging to him. That certain undeadness with hints of blood... Now he knew what’d been bugging him. The feeling like he’d been being watched from far away. Stumbling his steps as he tried to look over his shoulder, Keith kept him upright
“Babe?”
Lance couldn’t bring up the topic now. Not if they were being watched and listened to
“It’s fine. Just making sure they didn’t call security on us”
A little white lie wouldn’t cause any drama. Maybe the vampire worked here as something like a waiter. Shiro’s neck showed, no vampire bites obvious. Confidently, Shiro bought his mistruth
“They’d hardly call security on us. Though you two are underdressed. I hope we didn’t disturb anything...”
The way Shiro said “anything” meant sex... Grumpy Keith didn’t appreciate his brother’s comment
“It’s the middle of the night. We were tying to sleep. Don’t be gross”
“You knew you had to pick us up”
“I didn’t think it’d be in the middle of the fucking night...”
Oh dear. Keith was only getting crankier. Pulling Keith closer, Keith leaned into him, Lance enjoying feeling like he was supporting his sleepy boyfriend
“It’s fine. We were cuddled up in bed. He didn’t have any coffee before we left. Are we headed back to the apartment or VOLTRON?”
“Lotor had a meeting with Allura. That should be over now. She was worried about his scent sending you into a fresh heat when now is not an opportune time. Then there’s the affect of your scent on his ego. Allura was quite unsure what the meeting was about. Lotor seemed quite keen on dating her”
Trust Curtis to know what was up. Lance hadn’t met Lotor yet. The vampire less snoopy now the Blades had sent a team. There were probably a lot of supernaturals that felt they couldn’t go to VOLTRON for help until the hunters had left. Things were fine with Coran running the show. He didn’t simply send someone after you. But the Blades didn’t play by his rules. Antok hadn’t seemed to care when he carried out his mission. He was going to have to find Allura and ask her what she made of Lotor now they’d spent more time together. They never had had to go out... and though Lance disliked going to clubs, he didn’t want Allura to miss out on the chance to get out and about. He didn’t want to third wheel on Allura’s dating life, yet he wasn’t sure he was up for Allura going out alone with Lotor, if she’d decided he was worth her time. If they went out, met in a public space, then that’d be a different thing. Allura could experience what being human was like, without the heaviness of it being a date. Not that dating was heavy. But there was a certain expectation of things to run smoothly. Lotor hurting Allura went against things running smoothly and he’d never forgive himself if something happened to her... even if meant third wheeling. Tomorrow he’d talk to Allura. Or today... He wasn’t exactly sure what the time was, only that he was out past his bedtime and he wanted to get as far away from the hotel vampire as soon as he could.
*
When Lance went looking for Allura in the morning, the last thing he expected was to be running into Krolia. Walking through the halls, Krolia and Kolivan were talking with Coran. Lance knew he wasn’t supposed to hear what they were saying, but he definitely caught “Sendak needs to come in and testify that he wasn’t involved in the incident at the shipping yard, or we’ll be forced to hunt him down. If you can get Lotor to agree on a meeting with us personally, we’ll be in a much better position....” before the three of them noticed him and promptly shut up. He’d heard more, but he really had tried to ignore their words by thinking about Keith. In front of everyone else the Blades made it a point to tell the world they didn’t need Coran’s help. Now they were sneaking around and meeting with him like the dodgy snakes they were.
“Lance, my boy. What are you doing here?”
Coran sounded ruffled. Being caught would do that. Sliding his hands into his jeans, Lance shrugged, pretending this wasn’t awkward, and he didn’t feel like prey with the three of them walking towards him
“I just came up to talk to Allura. Is she around?”
“She’s in her office, I believe”
“Great. Well... I’m gonna go... yep... gonna go find Allura...”
And now he was overjustifying. Kolivan stared down at him, crossing his arms with a savage frown on his lips. Lance nearly found himself dropping down and begging for his life. The man was fucking scary
“Can I ask why you wish to see Allura? I was under the impression you’d be leaving by now”
Ouch. He was currently stuck. Things half packed
“I’m not exactly here because I want to be. No offence, Coran. I... well... I was going to ask Allura if she wanted to go out for a drink and a catch up”
Coran nervously twirled his moustache
“Sorry, my boy... Allura needs to stay here today. Why don’t you call Pidge and Hunk?”
Okay. This was weird. Why was it that he felt Coran wanted Allura staying at VOLTRON because he was scared for her? Lotor better not have hurt her already
“Nah. It’s fine. I wanted to see how she was. I’ll message Keith or something”
“Ah. Yes. Well. Shiro and Keith will be required later too. Sorry. Lotor wishes to meet with them and we believe Allura may be able to obtain information pertinent to the investigation...”
“That’s enough. Anything else is to be saved for the briefing”
Coran tugged lightly on the end of his moustache
“I’m sorry, Lance. He is quite right. Maybe today’s the day to go for a nice drive? You’ll find something to do. Only I ask that you please avoid the main floor. We don’t know what time we should expect Lotor’s arrival”
“Coran, you don’t need to explain. It’s okay. I’ll visit Garrison, and catch up with Allura another time”
Heading back to his room. Lance gathered up his things. Lotor was coming on board to work with the Blades, meaning his presence here would potentially cause issues if the two of them were to bump into each other. Coran had promised to work on something for his scent and pheromones but these things took time and the man now had enough of his plate that Lance understood he didn’t really have time to be coming up with something like that. It’d suck not being able to say goodbye to Keith, but Keith had work and that needed to come first. Plus they’d made up yesterday. He’d overstayed his welcome. Not helpful in the current situation. Packing up and moving home was best for everyone... except Keith. He was being pathetic. He’d been spoiled being able to see Keith almost everyday. Mami was right. They were definitely in their honeymoon phase. He wanted to spend as much time with Keith as possible, but already had made his working life hard because his boyfriend had to take care of him during his heats. Putting it that way didn’t sound noble. It kind of sounded like he was running away from his problems. He should just call Keith and explain... but hearing his voice... he’d want to see him, and then he’d want to stay and he couldn’t stay. Ugh. Being in love was exhausting... Don’t get him wrong, he adored Keith, but if he wasn’t thinking about him then he probably would have gone back earlier.
Taking the cowards way out, he shot keith a text. Well. A series of texts explaining that for now he thought it’d be best. He knew Keith had abandonment issues and he’d really wanted to help with this “Krolia Keith issue”. But he was just one vampire head over-heels for his boyfriend. He thought maybe he get them to talk, yet if he was confined to the lower levels of VOLTRON he didn’t see how that was going to happen. With his things packed, it took two trips to his car. Keith hadn’t replied to messages, making him feel even worse about just leaving him in Platt. Keith had mentioned he wanted him to be able to go back to Garrison, where he’d be relatively safe... Matt and Rieva wouldn’t have returned there is it wasn’t... and with the three of them they’d put up a fair fight if anything happened.
*
Blue kept him company for the drive. Clipping her lead to the passenger headrest, his precious princess curled up on the front seat, happy to be in the sun. Her legs stretched out, toe beans pointing towards him. She was just too cute. She’d made a friend in Kosmo and now Lance felt mean separating the pair of them. Maybe he should get another cat? If things were settling down for him, it’d be good for Blue to have some company... Though the house and grounds were her domain so an intruder might not be looked upon so nicely. Plus, she’d have to share her cat tree... and watch another cat eat wet food... Maybe another cat wasn’t such a good idea... Especially when Blue liked to “play” with him as a bat. He was likely to end up dead with a second feline there to help Blue. As Keith would say, he was overthinking things again.
Reaching his house, he didn’t feel better about coming home. Hunk’s car was in the drive, him and Pidge probably already inside. After his craptastic day, part of him felt petty. Pidge wasn’t fine with sleeping over when it came to him. But she was apparently fine with two werewolves... It stung. Like maybe he wasn’t welcome in his own house anymore, like he wasn’t exactly welcome at VOLTRON. Now he was sitting in front of his house, he realised he’d left without picking up blood bags. He should have some still, from when he was going to move back before, but after skulking away, he felt foolish. His metaphoric tail tucked between his legs because the adults didn’t have time for him. Totally fucking lame. He’d stripped his room completely. Everything packed and in the back of his bronco. All that came now was pasting a fake smile on his face and greeting his friends again.
Matt and Rieva had heard him coming, Lance opening the door to the pair of them. As they wrapped their arms around him, it was the best he’d felt all day
“You’re back!”
Matt sounded happy. At least someone was happy to see him... Nope. No. No being petty. They were home and staying there now
“Yep. Back for good”
“We missed you, man! Come in already! We’ve been dying here. Hunk’s cooking is the only thing keep us alive”
Lance snorted
“You’ve missed me because you can’t cook”
“Rieva can cook... but there’s just something not the same without you in the kitchen”
Matt was careless with his words. Rieva letting go of Lance and grabbing her boyfriend by the earlobe, Matt yelping
“What was that?”
Matt grabbed his girlfriend’s wrist
“Okay! I said it wrong! You can cook! You can cook! Stop tearing my ear off!”
Rieva grinned at Lance
“Hear that? He’s volunteered for two weeks of dishwashing and drying. Now, if only I could get him so enthused about doing his washing”
Lance raised an eyebrow
“You haven’t trained him yet?”
“At this stage he’s surviving on his good looks alone”
“Then how is he still alive?”
Matt frowned, Rieva letting go of his ear as she laughed. Crossing his arms, the werewolf put on an overly hurt tone
“Man. That hurt. I thought we were buds?”
“We are. Can I blame that on my ego?”
“Only if you don’t get too mad about your living room”
“What did you do to my house?”
“Well... about that...”
It took naught-point-two seconds for Lance to wish he was buried out the back in his grave soil. His living room transformed. Now there were investigation boards up for Lotor. Rieva hadn’t given up on Lotor being bad... she’d just shifted her investigation here... roping in Hunk and Pidge from the look of it. He’d left Platt and now Platt seemed determined to mock him
“What. The. Fuck?!”
“Don’t freak out...”
Matt could go jump if he thought Lance would be cool with this
“You can’t just... What were you thinking?”
This right here was why vampires lived longer than werewolves! Rieva took him by the hand
“I know this is hard for you, but we couldn’t let it go. Lotor’s bad news. His family is bad news. Please, Lance. This is the only safe place where we can work this out”
From the sofa, Pidge looked up from her laptop
“Rieva, ignore him. He worries too much”
No. He worried just the right amount!
“Of course I worry! You guys are mostly human! I didn’t come home to be caught up in an investigation that’d make me even more dead if the Blades found out!”
“That’s why they can’t know. Shiro and Keith...”
“I’m not lying to Keith. Both of them were booted from the investigation for a good reason. I can home to get away from this!”
Hunk came running from the kitchen. Oven mitts still on his hand
“What’s all the... Lance?! You’re back?”
Why did it feel like Hunk wasn’t happy to see him?
“I am. And I see you guys have been busy”
“Uh. Yeah. Uh, bud... you see... the thing is...”
“The thing is you’re going to end up getting yourselves killed chasing this. I can’t believe you guys! You find out vampires are real and now you’re targeting one of the nastiest around? Seriously?! Do you know what you’re doing?! Allura is like a hair away from dating Lotor. Keith’s stressed out. Shiro and Curtis are finally dating. We’re all banned pretty much from going to VOLTRON while the Blades investigate this. And you bring it home?! This isn’t fun and games! People end up dead or they end up as something fucking worse. Pidge, you were scared and you haven’t even seen the worst of it! I told you I didn’t want her caught up in this! She’s your sister, Matt!”
Matt sighed
“Look. I know you care about Pidge. But I care about keeping us all safe. Lotor is bad news...”
“I know! Well I don’t know, but I know enough!”
“You’re not a hunter...”
Matt started to speak, Lance snapping mid sentence
“You guys aren’t either! You want to be turned into pets? Is that it? You want to be fed on? You want to be tortured? Why?! Why would you do this?”
Pidge stood up, yelling
“Our parents know hunters! They know. They know about things!”
“Then figure out how to help Curtis with his goddamn curse! Not how to bring down Lotor and get us all killed in the process!”
Pidge’s parents knowing hunters kind of gut punched him. Pidge must have either forced them to talk to her or snooped. Probably snooped. Colleen was scary
“You’re not our boss, Lance. We can’t let people get hurt! Or is your precious ego so fragile you don’t actually care about helping people?”
Lance wanted to shake sense into Pidge. What happened to his always dependable ray of sunshine stopping her from being stupid?!
“Of course I care! But we’re banned from investigating! You guys were knocked out by the Blades once. Kolivan isn’t going to be so kind the next time around!”
“What does it matter if it stops people getting hurt?!”
“Because you could die!”
“And I could come back as a vampire! This is bigger than us”
Pidge didn’t get it. She didn’t get what being a vampire was like at all. Pidge turning into a vampire was the stuff of nightmares for him. Why were his friends so fucking stupid?!
“I can’t... I can’t even look at you guys right now. Being a vampire isn’t a joke. It’s the worst existence you could think of. For 26 years I’ve looked 18. I’ve watched my family grow old. I tore my family apart. My sister Rachel became a drug addict because she couldn’t cope. I’ve left people behind. I’ve had to change my name and move. Everything you enjoy about being human is gone. Your precious coffee, drink that and you’ll be throwing it back up half an hour later. No caffeine buzz. No alcohol buzz. We go insane. That’s our fate. Our fate is loose our minds and turn into monsters. That’s if you even survive turning and you’re not hunted down and decapitated first. Our blood is so dangerous that even a hickey can turn our partners if they suck too hard. Fuck this. I’ll be in my grave my soil”
No matter which way he looked at it. He’d be the first to sign up for experimental time travel because today had sucked so hard that not even Keith calling him could make up for it.

Home with you | Sana
Genre: angst (fluff maybe at the end?)
Wordcount: 1,708
Request: hi, can i request something w/ twice’s sana & idol!fem reader? can you also make it angst but w/ a happy ending? thank you so much !
A/N: So I wrote this for a request, but then another request came in that was really similar to this (shoutout to the anon who can apparantely read my thoughts :D), but not quite. So I never posted it. But I couldn’t just delete it, so here it is. Basically, the twin sister of ‘Pieces’ :D
Tumblr media
If you could turn back time right in this moment you would. What was it all good for? If you started again and didn’t repeat your mistakes, you could save yourself a lot of pain. But it was your own fault. You knew that you were getting attached to the industry’s biggest flirt, so it was bound to leave you scarred.
Your relationship with Sana started about two years ago and everything was fine in the beginning. You had met because one of your group members, Eunha, was befriended with Sana and one day you all went out for a coffee together. The both of you immediately clicked and the coffee date slowly turned into a real one with Eunha being the third wheel. After that, you exchanged numbers and stayed in contact, despite both of your busy schedules. Because it was known that Eunha and Sana were really good friends, you used the opportunity to go on dates under the pretext that it was just some friends catching up together. It didn’t take long for Sana to ask you to be her girlfriend and you were more than happy to accept.
You should have probably thought about the consequences of dating a fellow idol with no chance to go public a little earlier. Now two years later, all you were left with was a broken heart. It was a gradual process. You knew that Sana was flirty with almost everyone but you in public, because you couldn’t risk anyone getting suspicious. It was easy for you to accept her being touchy with her fellow members. You knew that they basically spent their entire youth together and that this created a bond for life.
But when Sana started to flirt with people outside her group, the jealousy began bubbling inside of you. You didn’t want to be unfair though, so you let it go. It was simply Sana’s personality and you trusted her, you thought to yourself. She would never cheat on you. They were nothing more but friends. Even if fans were going crazy and started shipping Sana with all kind of idols. You tried to not let yourself get soaked into all of this gossip.
At one point, however, things were getting out of hand. Sana was getting particularly touchy with only one idol. Jungkook. During award shows BTS and Twice would always stand next to each other, giving them the chance to interact. Being two of the most popular groups, fans started shipping Sana and Jungkook immediately after they were seen joking around together. You didn’t think much of it at first, but slowly, you couldn’t help but think that Sana even enjoyed being shipped with him.
Normally, she wouldn’t do anything to fire up rumors, but this time, it seemed like she wanted to cause a scandal. Doing aegyo for him, batting her eyelashes and pretending to be flustered about the things he whispered into her ears. And all you could do was stand right next to her. Watching her flirt with other people, if just playful or serious. And it hurt. It hurt because she didn’t even try to consider your feelings and it hurt because you knew that this could never be the two of you. And so you felt your heart gradually crumbling.
The last straw, however, only happened barely an hour ago. You were actually on your way to your girlfriend, browsing the internet in the back of the car, when one particular headline spread like a wildfire on all important news pages:
“Twice’s Sana and BTS’ Jungkook spotted on a date.”
You were slightly chuckling to yourself, thinking it was just another clickbait, but when you clicked on one article, you couldn’t believe your eyes. There were pictures showing your girlfriend on what seemed like an actual date with Jungkook. They were taking a walk in a park, all bundled up to hide from the paparazzi, but actually making them even easier to spot.
What was Sana doing?
Just when you were about to read the article, your cellphone rang: Sana.
Of course she would call now. But you didn’t want to see her right now, even less so talk to her. You rejected her call and told your driver to bring you to a nearby park instead. You needed to clear your head. As you were walking around, you reflected Sana’s and your relationship. Where did it all go wrong? Or was it maybe wrong from the beginning? Maybe it was simply a lost cause. You sat on a bench, burying your head into your jacket as far as you could to protect yourself from the cold. You were about to make a decision whether it was time to end this game, when you could hear steps from behind,
“Y/N?”
You heard the soft voice from your girlfriend. You didn’t need to turn around to know that she had been crying. The sadness in her voice was not to ignore. But you didn’t bother to turn around.
“Y/N.”
She repeated another time, making her way around the bench, ending up crouching down in front of you with her hands supporting herself on your legs.
“Please listen to me.”
She whispered while some tears were leaving marks on her cheeks. You were just too tired. You gave your all into this relationship and you were empty now. You wanted to leave, but you were even too tired to do that. So you stayed, not looking into your girlfriend’s eyes.
“It’s not what it looks like, Y/N. I promise.”
She sobbed.
“Please just look at me.”
She took your chin softly into her hand, turning it to face her. Her puffy eyes hurt you. After all this time. After the flirting, the shipping and the rumors. After everything, the thing that could still hurt you the most, was your girlfriend being sad.
“I love you, Y/N. You know I do.”
You laughed mockingly at Sana’s words.
“Oh do you now? How could you have taken your flirting then far enough that there are actual pictures of you with him?”
You spat out, now feeling your own tears stinging in your eyes.
“I’m sorry. I never meant for it to go this far.”
She cried out, now starting to cling to your jacket as if she needed something to hold on to in order to not lose it completely.
“It didn’t mean anything to me. You have to believe me. I only want you.”
She tried to reach out to your face, but you flinched to avoid her touch.
“I don’t care anymore, Sana. What are we even doing? Our relationship is leading to nowhere. The sooner we get that, the more pain we can safe us.”
You stood up, causing Sana to lose her balance and almost tumbling over, but she caught herself the last second, sprinting behind you instead and getting a hold of your arm. You had to turn around to get rid of Sana’s hand, but the moment you were facing her, she pressed her lips against yours. You stumbled back in surprise.
“Sana! What the hell are you doing? We could be seen!”
“I don’t care. Then let them see us. I’m dating you. No one else.”
She responded, while getting a hold of your neck again, trying to pull you into another kiss.
“Sana stop! Can’t you see? It’s too late. If I were important to you, you wouldn’t go on dates with other people.”
You yelled at her, now 100% sure that you drew the attention of the other park visitors to you.
“It wasn’t a date! It was all a PR stunt to promote our comeback. To draw attention to us.”
She huffed defeated, massaging her temples in frustration.
“I know this isn’t an apology. And it isn’t supposed to be one. I behaved like an asshole, I know that. I should have declined the proposition or at least talked with you about it. So you can call me a bad girlfriend, but don’t ever doubt my feelings for you!”
She begged you, while you were staring at her in disbelief.
“Why didn’t you talk with me about it?”
You wondered out loud.
“Because this was all I wanted for us. I wanted people to ship us, because we couldn’t keep our eyes to ourselves at award shows. I wanted the paparazzi to chase behind us to be able to reveal pictures of us kissing. I wanted us to have the chance of a real relationship that didn’t only exist behind closed doors. I just wanted to know how all of this felt like.”
Tears silently fell from your eyes. How could you be mad at her for this? It would be selfish to hold her back from what she wanted.
“I guess, I should let you go then. I want you to be happy, Sana. You should have everything you want.”
You said silently, not wanting to hear your own words, because they felt like blades cutting you open.
“But I don’t want to have a relationship if it’s not with you!”
Sana yelled at you. Your sobs where making your whole body shake by now, making Sana wrap her arms around you, holding you close.
“I don’t want to lose you, Y/N. Or did I already?”
She asked searching for your eyes once you had calmed down a bit.
“No.”
You whispered, now it being you who grabbed a fistful of her coat to have something to hold on to. She pulled you closer by your neck, your noses touching.
“I’m going to be better. I swear.”
You nodded hardly noticeable.
“Let’s just leave for a while. Only the two of us. Let’s fix this. Us.”
She pleaded while pulling at your clothes in desperation.
Normally you would be rational right now. You were idols, you couldn’t just leave. But right now, you didn’t care. You decided to pretend for a while. Like you actually could steal a few weeks to fix what was broken between Sana and you. You just wanted to go somewhere with her. You didn’t care where. Everywhere with Sana was home.

Goodbye, Peter Pan [Chapter 8]
Tumblr media
Whisper your secrets in my ear; I will hold them close to my chest.
CSI!Bangtan AU. Chapter 7 → Chapter 8
“There’s not much I can say about her. She was my friend. We were relatively close when we were younger but lost contact after finishing college. Even though we weren’t the best of friends, I thought I knew her pretty well. But thinking back now, I’m beginning to realize that, even after all of the time we spent together, I hardly knew anything about Ji Hana.”
Kim Seokjin leans back in the driver’s seat of his sedan and frowns. The neighbourhood street on which he had pulled his car into is empty, providing the best kind of public privacy which the detective could afford on such short notice. In the passenger’s seat beside him sits Jeon Jungkook, who stares out of the side window with the sort of stillness one gains only through years of practice.
“She was a ghost.” Jin stretches his long legs into a more comfortable position, rearranging his limbs as though the physical movement will orchestrate the flow of his words. “Even when she was alive, the people around her knew next to nothing about her. She barely kept in contact with her family and it doesn’t look like she had any close friends in her life. Sunggyu said that her old friends in Gwangju had nothing substantial to say about who she was as a person, and even Joohee admitted that she didn’t know Hana well, not even back when they were in school together.”
Jungkook says nothing but Jin knows that he is listening, deeply contemplating the words which have been presented to him. There are many at the station who find Jeon Jungkook to be unsociable and withdrawn, but Jin is rather fond of the younger man. He’s observant, startlingly clever, and always lets Jin take his pick from the doughnut box first (though the last one is a bit of a stretch to count, seeing as Jungkook hardly touches any kind of sugary food anyway). He just doesn’t talk much is all, and there’s nothing wrong, in Jin’s opinion, with preferring to listen rather than to speak.
Jin drums his fingers on the steering wheel and glances at the empty street outside. The two men had just finished meeting with Lee Joohee, Hana’s childhood friend. The woman, with her sleek charcoal-gray suit and immaculately polished nails, had appeared appropriately sombre when the inspectors had arrived at her gallery office. “I saw the reports,” she’d said, extending a hand in greeting, “And Hana’s parents reached out to tell me themselves, but it didn’t seem real until I received your call. You never think it’s going to happen to you, you know? Or to the people in your life. I mean, murders, killers; it’s the kind of thing that’s only supposed to exist in movies…”
Jin continues. “Sure, Joohee knew what Hana’s likes and dislikes were, what her hobbies were. She knew what Hana wanted to do after high school, who her family members were. But all of these things are superficial. They don’t tell us anything about why Hana was murdered or even targeted in the first place.”
“I suppose you could say that we were childhood friends, although we met when we were sixteen. She moved to our school during the third year of high school, and we only started talking after we were put in the same study group. But honestly, I’m not sure that she would have said the same thing about the friendship that we had. It was hard to tell what she was thinking most of the time. She never talked much about herself, and she was rather quiet, even around me. Yes, we talked and laughed together, but most of the time she just listened to other people speak. Even when we went to the same college together, it still felt like she was keeping me at a distance.”
“Either she just didn’t like talking about herself very much, or there was something she wanted to hide. A traumatic past experience or a secret of some sort… But that goes against everything we’ve learned about her, doesn’t it? Her parents already told us that nothing of the sort had happened in her life…”
“But even with that quiet side, she could be surprisingly absentminded at times. Actually, I think ‘focused’ would be a better way of describing it. She was always concentrating on her art, so it wasn’t unusual for her to forget to bring her lunch or even assignments to school. Most of our classmates- and even some of the teachers- thought she was scatterbrained, but I always thought that it was because her mind was too busy thinking of what she could create next.”
“You don’t murder a person for no reason. And if that person just so happens to be a mysterious artist who keeps her life wrapped in shadows… She was definitely hiding something, wouldn’t you say? Even when she was young, she wanted to keep her secrets. Only the problem is, nobody in her life seems to have known what they were.”
“I think the last time I saw her was sometime a year ago. I was passing by this cafe downtown and glanced through the window, and there was Hana sitting at the front table. We’d lost contact by then, so you can imagine how surprised I was to see her there. But what was more surprising was who she was with: Seo Eunkwang, that self-acclaimed ‘doctor of the soul.’ Have you heard of him? He’s the one who claims he can heal your burdened mind and emotional scars through the language of love, or whatever it is. A bit of a farce, if you ask me. Anyway, they looked as though they were in the middle of a serious conversation so I didn’t want to interrupt to say hi…”
Jin hums out a thoughtful, tuneless melody. As soon as he and Jungkook had said their goodbyes to Joohee, he had texted Jimin with the name of the so-called “soul doctor,” asking the intel officer to pass along any available information about him. So far twenty minutes have passed with the two detectives waiting in the car, but Jin is more patient than he lets on, and Jungkook doesn’t seem to mind the wait, either.
“If Ji Hana was as private as she appeared to be, then why would she meet with that doctor? Judging from what we were told, this Seo Eunkwang fellow seems to be more of an unlicensed therapist than a professional medical doctor. And why do people go to therapists? To talk. To seek emotional help.”
He can feel Jungkook’s eyes turning towards him, but still, there is no answer. The silence is heavy, stained only by the faint noises of the world beyond the sedan, but Jin isn’t offended by the lack of response. He’s long since grown accustomed to Jungkook and his odd silences; Jungkook, with his habit of wandering into his own private thoughts while giving neither explanation nor invitation to those around him. He is entirely, Jin decides, like the ocean: perpetually reaching out to the awaiting shores, only to abruptly recede back into the space that belongs to him and him only.
“She wanted to talk,” Jungkook finally speaks for the first time since leaving Lee Joohee’s office. “It doesn’t matter how guarded she was with her secrets; she still wanted somebody to confide in.”
Jin nods in agreement. “Exactly, kid. And it’s too bad our job is to pry the lids off of secrets, not to keep them on.” His phone suddenly beeps, signalling the arrival of a new message. It’s from Jimin, who has sent a makeshift profile on Seo Eunkwang containing his background information, phone number, home and work addresses, and the interestingly high number of complaints filed against his business for fraud and extortion. Jin grins as he buckles his seatbelt, then motions for Jungkook to do the same. “We got a hit for his address. I hope this doctor doesn’t mind walk-in appointments.”
Even with the ease in the morning traffic rush, it takes almost thirty minutes to reach the business district of downtown Seoul, where Seo Eunkwang had chosen to situate his somewhat questionable business. With it being ten o’clock on a Thursday morning, Jin had gambled on finding the man of interest at his office rather than his home address.
“And it’s better not to call ahead,” he’d explained to Jungkook as he drove, slowing down to allow a red minivan to cut before him on the lane. “Wouldn’t want to give him a heads-up on the chance that he has something to hide, see? Not that I’m saying we should treat him as a suspect, but you never know in our line of work.”
The so-called “soul” doctor’s office is relatively easy to find, and Jin makes quick work of parking his car along the curb. While the building itself is small, and slightly drab-looking in comparison to its neighbouring finance offices, its exterior is plastered with company banners and advertisements, as though trying to make up for its lack of decor with boasts of the businesses residing within.
Soul Speech Therapy! Heal your worries with the language of love!, one sign reads, and accompanying the words are a phone number and a picture of the grinning soul doctor himself.
“He’s not exactly shy about marketing the nature of his business, is he?” Jin snorts as he steps out of his car. He waits for Jungkook to do the same, then checks to make sure that his vehicle is locked securely. “I know there isn’t much we know about Ji Hana’s character, but if she decided to meet this guy for ‘soul speech therapy’ or whatever, then I’d be pretty surprised. It seems a bit New Age for her tastes, if you ask me.”
Jungkook takes a moment to study the storefront. The address had placed the office on the fourth floor of the building. Even with the relatively low structure in framework, the windows are still too high up for the inspectors to be able to detect any motion inside. “Perhaps this was her way of coping with whatever she had to hide.”
“Hey, I’m not judging. To each his own, and all that,” Jin says good-naturedly, and walks around the sedan to join Jungkook on the curbside. “Now, come on. Let’s go see what the doctor has to say about our ghost.”
He waits until a pair of office workers pass by on the sidewalk, then gestures for Jungkook to follow his lead. The daylight is becoming brighter with the rise of the mid-morning sun, and Jin has to blink hard to keep the bright light from completely eclipsing his vision. With the end of the May month approaching, the weather is rapidly becoming more beautiful and carefree, as though entirely oblivious to the world and its incessant, unfortunate sufferings. Some might consider it an insult, Jin muses rather regretfully, that the sun can shine so blissfully in the face of a murder investigation.
Suddenly Jungkook speaks in his usual low murmur. “There. Seo Eunkwang is coming out of the building now.”
“Where?” Squinting, Jin raises a hand to block out the sun. The onslaught of daylight makes it difficult to see clearly past the front glass doors, but he is able to make out the figure of a man approaching from within. A man in his late thirties, with a thin, angular face and salon-ready hairstyle matching the picture Jimin had sent to a T. “Perfect timing. Maybe our souls told him we were coming to see him.”
As though somehow alerted to their approach, Seo Eunkwang suddenly looks up and catches sight of the detectives through the heavy glass. Jin and Jungkook are still a few steps away from the doors, but Jin thinks he can see the man’s eyes widen in alarm before he abruptly turns and disappears back inside the lobby.
Jin momentarily stops in his tracks. “Did you see that? He obviously saw us coming. Do you think he’s trying to avoid us?” Whatever reaction he had been expecting from the man, this certainly isn’t it. “I’ll try to follow him inside, catch up to him. You stay here in case he tries to leave through the front again.”
Jungkook murmurs an assent, but Jin is already hurrying towards the building. He steps through the front doors just in time to see the doctor’s figure disappearing up the lobby stairs.
‘He’s running,’ is the first thought which pops into Jin’s mind, and instinct propels him to quicken his own pace. The staircase is free of other patrons, allowing Seo Eunkwang’s footsteps to echo thickly in the air- a light, scampering sound, yet tinged around the edges with an unmistakable sort of desperation. The desperation to hide. The desperation to flee. It’s a sound Jin is all too familiar with, but normally reserved for pursuits after conspicuous criminals and lawbreakers; certainly not businessmen and self-acclaimed medical figures.
But why would such a man want to run? What had provoked him into fleeing the second he had caught sight of the two crime scene detectives? Jin can only imagine the reason as being something so painfully obvious, Min Yoongi would have rolled his eyes in disgust: Seo Eunkwang had something he wanted to hide. He had wanted to avoid talking to the authorities, and the reason behind it was evidently pressing enough that he had decided to run instead of playing it cool.
The doctor is fast; a part of Jin can’t help but wonder if he’s had practice running from the authorities. As Jin rounds up to the third floor, he catches sight of the man already disappearing into the fourth. Frustrated, Jin yells, “Mr. Seo! I don’t know why you’re running, but we’re only here to speak to you-”
His words are greeted with the sound of a door slamming shut. Slightly out of breath, Jin reaches the top of the stairs to find the fourth floor entirely empty of the doctor’s presence. Although it doesn’t take a genius to figure out where the man is hiding- right in front of the stairwell, on the left side of the corridor, is a door marked with the sign of the doctor and his soul therapy practice.
Jin approaches the door with heavy footsteps, feeling both exasperated with this unforeseen goose chase and a bit too winded from the run for his liking. The years hadn’t been kind on his aging knees, he thinks wryly to himself, before coming to a halt in front of the silent office door. “Mr. Seo,” he huffs out, “We’re here on official police business! Whatever it is you’re trying to avoid, we have no interest in that matter. My partner and I only want to ask you a few questions about an ongoing investigation-”
And it’s then that the door suddenly flings wide open, launching itself towards Jin and his quite unsuspecting, quite unprotected face.
"Son of a-!”
——-
Even with your clear warning to stay the fuck still, the man continues to pull something out of his pocket. Inwardly you think that he must be either incredibly brazen or incredibly stupid to ignore your warning, especially when your revolver is practically on display for him to see.
Your fingers tense as you quickly assess the level of danger. Although the man has yet to present himself as an outright threat, his actions are far too suspicious for you to overlook. He’s already proven himself to be a disturbance, if not nuisance, by sneaking up to the scene of the crime. Twice. Even if he’s not the person who dragged the body into the apartment- his build doesn’t match the one from the footage- you’re still reluctant to treat him as a harmless bystander. Firing your weapon has always been your absolutely last resort, but if he pulls out a gun or even knife of his own, then you have little chance of disarming or even evading his attack in this confining hallway-
The door to Ji Hana’s unit suddenly swings wide open. Neither you nor the man have the chance to react as Hoseok appears in the doorway. His eyes flash towards yours, and without a word he wretches the man’s arms behind his back. Within seconds Hoseok has the intruder secured in a death grip, pointedly ignoring the man’s yelps of pain. An object clatters to the floor, and you give it a quick, cursory glance. No knife, no gun, not even a stick to beat you over the head with- all you can see lying on the ground, much to your surprise and chagrin, is what appears to be an identification card of some sort.
“Ow ow ow, what the hell? I wasn’t going to do anything; I was only trying to show you my badge! I’m a journalist, for crying out loud!”
Immediately you swing your eyes to the intruder’s face. In the midst of the scuffle his mask has fallen off, giving you a clear view of his features and the grimace of pain which currently twists at his lips. There is something about his face that seems oddly familiar. Narrowing your eyes, you mentally sift through your memories, weaving through each until at last you find the right one. “You. You’re the reporter who wrote that month-long feature on the museum case last year.”
“That’s me. Lee Changsub; pleased to make your acquaintance again,” the man says in a pained voice. “Now, could you please call your partner off? I think my arms are going to fall off any minute.”
Relief floods your system, but just as quickly as it appears, it’s replaced by a wave of ire and exasperation. You let your arm fall back to your side and survey the man in front of you. “What do you think you’re doing here? You’re trespassing on private property, not to mention serious police activity.”
“Jesus. You don’t skip out on arm days at the gym, do you, buddy?” Lee Changsub grimaces as Hoseok wordlessly releases his hold. He straightens up and quickly takes a step away from your colleague, eyeing the inspector with an expression that contains both wariness and grudging respect. “I’m a reporter for The Globe. We haven’t been told much about this case- your chief is quite stingy when it comes to sharing information, did you know that?- so I decided to take some initiative and check things out on my own.”
“By sneaking past our officers without a pass?” you ask skeptically, just as Hoseok says, “That’s because that information is confidential.”
The reporter picks up his ID and mask, and dusts the items off. Now that you have a better view of him, you can see that he’s clearly not the suspect from the footage. Just as you’d thought, his frame is too slender, too lithe, to match the one from the surveillance tape.
Changsub pockets his belongings and shrugs at your question. “Gotta earn a living somehow. You can’t actually expect this story to stay under wraps, not when the city’s local art sensation Ji Hana is involved. And as I said, your chief hasn’t given us much to go on. He’s not very good at answering his phone, is he?”
“If you’re an authorized journalist, then you’ll know how the protocol works for this kind of thing. We answer your calls and hold media conferences when we’re able to, not anytime sooner than that.”
“You can’t blame a guy for trying, Inspector. But so long as we’re talking about protocol…” His eyes flash towards your hip, and you’re slightly taken aback to see Hoseok follow his line of sight. “Pulling a weapon on an innocent civilian? Wouldn’t you say you’re… jumping the gun a bit?”
You ignore his grin and tasteless pun. “Not if I have reason to believe that my safety, and the safety of the residents in this building, is at risk. Besides, with all of that sneaking around, you can hardly be called innocent. Consider this a warning. The next officer who finds you trespassing in crime scenes might not be so lenient.”
Changsub raises his hands in a show of surrender. “Alright, alright. I can take a hint. I promise I’ll be on my best behaviour from here on out. But before I leave…” Pulling out his wallet, he digs through the compartments for a moment before producing a white business card. He holds it out to you (a wise decision, you privately think, for Hoseok would have left the questionable offering hovering in the air). “I know that we media folk are something akin to vultures to you, but would you call me if you find any developments? Out of consideration for the public, if not for what I sense to be the beginning of a beautiful and blossoming friendship.”
You resist the urge to roll your eyes and accept the card. “I’ll see what I can do.”
Once the reporter has left, you follow Hoseok back inside unit 905. The apartment is still as quiet as ever, still pitifully lonely, making it seem as though it exists entirely in a world of its own. As you walk behind your colleague through the living room, a thought suddenly appears in your mind. “What if he’d had a knife?”
Hoseok pauses briefly to consider your question. “Well, I suppose that’s where your gun would have had the advantage.”
“That’s not what I meant.” This time, you really do roll your eyes. Honestly, if this is how Yoongi feels whenever you throw sass at him, then you think you owe the poor man a long-overdue apology. “You were unarmed. You could have gotten hurt. Even if you caught him by surprise, he still could have attacked you, and you would have been defenceless to stop it.”
He glances over his shoulder to meet your eyes. In the low light of the apartment, his eyes almost appear to be black, and there is a startling intensity that once again catches you off-guard. “Exactly. What if he’d had a knife? Or a gun? Are you confident that you could have disarmed him with your weapon? Your gun may be fast, but if you don’t know what you’re going up against, then you lose the upper hand. I’m not undermining you, Inspector. But if you’re going to preach to me about being defenceless in the face of a risk, then I suggest that you do the same for yourself.”
His words provoke a conflicting mix of emotions within you: the urge to snap back and defend your wounded pride, a growing exasperation at the petty, practically high school-level tension that hovers in the air. As you evenly return his stare, you can almost hear an indignant voice whispering in the back of your head, what crawled up his ass and died? Over the years you’ve seen your share of haughty colleagues, some superior to your rank, others working beneath your orders, all equally as unwilling to cooperate like mature, reasonable adults. But Jung Hoseok is something entirely different. It’s not that he’s outright rebuffing you, no. It’s more that he’s refusing to allow himself to be read, and there exists a part of you that thinks he must have worked extremely hard to keep it that way.
Eventually you decide to settle the matter with a light shrug and word of thanks. Your work is already difficult enough, and damn it all if you’re going to let this childish tension cloud your focus. Ji Hana deserves better, you decide with a sense of resolution, than for two detectives to squabble in her apartment instead of finding the truth behind her untimely death. “I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks for your help, then.”
He regards you for a second longer before pulling away in the verbal ceasefire. “Don’t mention it. If you had gotten injured, it would have only given your boss another reason to resent my presence,” he says dryly, then disappears into the bathroom to continue his tour of the apartment.
You stare after him before shaking your head. ‘He really is something else,’ you muse, then follow his lead down the hallway. The image of Hoseok putting Lee Changsub into a near-headlock suddenly appears in your mind, and, despite your earlier feelings of frustration, you can feel a wry grin tugging at your mouth. Really, the bureau director couldn’t have picked a better man for his unspoken mission to infiltrate the Seoul station while pissing off Min Yoongi. It’s just a shame that the person on the receiving end of Jung Hoseok’s… antagonism, for lack of a better word, is you and not the branch director in question (although there is a part of you that wonders what Hoseok himself thinks of this power play. Even with his inscrutability, you somehow doubt that he would willingly agree to be a pawn in another man’s political pissing party).
Casually leaning against the doorframe, you watch for a moment as he examines the contents of the bathroom cupboard: an unopened roll of mint toothpaste, a jar of face cream, a large bottle of shea body lotion that looks as though it hasn’t been touched in months. Most definitely not the contents of a woman who cared for a good skincare regimen. “So. What do you think?”
“What do I think about…?”
“About the case.” You wave your hand around the dimly lit room. “About the victim. About where we need to go from here.”
If Hoseok recognizes your unspoken offer of a truce (or diplomatic peace-making, as Namjoon often refers to it), then he doesn’t comment on it. His eyes flash as he absorbs the sight of the bathroom, and it’s only from the way that his lips are pressed together and his brows are furrowed that you can tell he’s taking your question seriously. “She wanted to avoid people,” he begins slowly. “She wanted to keep to herself. And not just because she had the personality of a recluse. No, there was a reason why she wanted to hide her life, and I suspect that the catalyst for this murder is connected to something that happened in her past.”
“Problem is, we have no idea what that something is. We haven’t found anything in this apartment-” you gesture your hand once again, “-that so much as hints at a past trauma. And it doesn’t seem like anybody in her life had any idea, either. Not her parents, not her friends; not even a single diary entry to point us in the right direction.”
“Just because she never told anybody, doesn’t necessarily mean it didn’t happen,” he says, but this time you can tell that his disagreement is for the purpose of speculation rather than antagonism. “She could have lied. She could have pretended that she was okay. People tend to do that.”
“You sound as though you have a lot of experience with that.”
Hoseok tilts his head. “Are you investigating me now, Inspector?” he asks in that slightly mocking voice which you’ve already become so accustomed to, yet you think you can see something close to amusement in his eyes.
You flash him an indulgent smile. The tension from earlier has all but dissipated, but there is a residual hint of it which continues to linger in the air, something that either only a fool or a dead man would be ignorant enough to miss. “Just think of it as me becoming more acquainted with you. I like to know a little something about all of my case partners; you understand.”
“I wasn’t aware that we were partners to begin with.”
“Not officially, no. But we were assigned to this case together, weren’t we? Even if you and I work within different districts, that still technically makes us partners for the time being. And I don’t know about you, but I like to get along with the people I’m working with,” you point out.
He looks at you, and for a very awkward moment you think that he’s going to ignore your obvious attempt at peace-making. But then the inner district officer turns back to the cupboard and resumes his inspection of its contents. “Lies are the foundation of this job, both yours and mine. If I really thought that Ji Hana’s life was as transparent as we’ve found it to be, then I wouldn’t make for a very good detective, would I?”
“Well, when you put it that way.” You’re keenly aware that he’s sidestepping your question, but choose not to push him for further elaboration. “But believe me, I know exactly what you’re getting at. I’m a detective too, remember? I’ve probably seen it just as much as you have.”
“Of course. I never doubted that for a second,” he answers cryptically, and closes the doors of the cupboard with an air of finality.
With the inspection of the bathroom completed, Hoseok steps past you to make a beeline for the living room. He comes to a stop in the middle of the wide room, sweeping his eyes slowly around the space (and what a lonely, lonely, space it is) as he had done inside of the bedroom. Again, you watch silently as he takes in the details of his surroundings: the bookshelf that is crammed with a mismatch of books and painting tools, the weatherbeaten sofa which seems to grieve for the owner whom it knows will never return. The painting of the Night Dancer image, which had practically catapulted Ji Hana to local fame while revealing nothing about its creator or even creation story.
Your vantage point from the entranceway only grants you a view of Hoseok’s side profile, but you can see his gaze coming to a stop at the enigmatic painting. He says nothing, but you think you can see something pass over his expression. It flits over his features like a shadow, so small and fleeting that you’d almost believe it to be a trick of the light should he so make the claim.
You expect Hoseok to make some sort of comment on the image- Ji Hana’s identity had practically revolved around this visual discipline, after all- but he simply turns away from the painting and glances in your direction. Whatever that shadow had been, it mars his features no longer. All that you can see is that slightly mocking smile of his, looking so natural and effortless, as though it had never disappeared from its spot on his mouth in the first place.
“Shall we return to the station, then? Before you decide to- how did that journalist put it- jump the gun on another unsuspecting civilian,” he says, lips twitching in amusement at the echo of Lee Changsub’s jest. Without waiting to hear your response, he brushes past you and heads towards the front door to the apartment, leaving behind only the sound of his receding footsteps and the lingering scent of his cologne to your company.
‘Smartass,’ you think to yourself wryly, and begin to follow his path towards the apartment door. It’s only your second day of knowing this man, yet it feels as though the two of you have already gone circles upon circles around each other. Whatever his intentions are, whatever it is that he’s trying to keep guarded from the rest of the world, you somehow think that Jung Hoseok will be an even greater mystery to uncover than the murder investigation itself.

BTS Reaction ▾ Comforting when you’re afraid you’ll be a dark mark on their reputation
Warnings: Not really nice thoughts, Swearing.
Jin:
Your face immediately dropped as you spotted a fansite camera a little further away from your private date at the balcony of a coffee shop. It was supposed to be private at least. “Hey, you okay?” Jin spotted the mood shift and your head clouded itself with guilt. You didn’t want to bring his mood down.
“Yeah,” You forced a smile. “I just lost train of thought for a second.” But obviously, Jin still had to check as he turns around and scans the area and catches the camera too.
“Oh, it’s just a fansite.” He turns around. “Don’t worry, you know they’re harmless.” He reassured as he placed a comforting hand on yours.
You bit your lip as if you were hesitant in believing that because you were. “It’s kind of difficult to know though.” He tilted his head in confusion and you sighed, surrendering to the idea of telling him. “Tell the nice ones apart from the ones that aren’t so nice.” because really… You've heard the stories of fansites not obeying company rules and imposing on idols’ private lives.
It only takes one scandalous photo not meant for public eyes to ruin a public figure’s career. You would never want that to happen to him.
Jin’s eyebrows crease in worry and his hand tightens its hold. “Jagi, trust me when I say this but you have nothing to worry about okay? We know who to avoid and who not to.” When you still look unsure he resorts to leaning across the table and planting a kiss on your lips. “We have a list of fansites that we need to look out for. I promise that most of them are nice and those incidents you hear about are as rare as they come okay? Please don’t worry.” You’re still unconvinced and Jin can see that. “Alright, if you want… We can go home? Or do you want to do something else?”
“Something else?”
“Yeah,” there was a mischievous glint in his eyes as he said that. “Do you want to run? Lose the camera and go to the beach close by?”
You smile coyly and nodded. “You sure that won’t look too bad?”
“Oh no. It’s totally going to look bad. I can already see the article headlines. ‘Jin from BTS. A bad influence on his sweet innocent girlfriend.’ It’s totally going to be a scandal.” He joked. “Let’s just go!”
You look back one more time at the camera before turning to him with a big grin. “Let’s go.”

Yoongi:
“It’s way too hot to be decked out in all black.” You stated as you looked at Yoongi trying to look as inconspicuous as possible -which is redundant because the man always wears black and he definitely stands out.
He shrugged as he took your hand in his and lazily strolled out of the cinema you both had just watched a movie in. “It’s darker now so it’s cooled down. Plus, I want to hide my bare face from the cameras.”
And before you could ask him what he meant, a flurry of camera shutters went off as soon as you both managed to leave the doors of the movie theatre. Shit. You grasped his hand a little tighter and ducked your head down in an attempt to hide it.
Yoongi, stole a quick glance at how you tensed up so quickly and bit his lip, waiting till you were both sat inside his car. Blackened windows for the privacy he really needed right now.
“You okay?” He asked once both of your seatbelts were fastened.
“Hmm? Oh yeah. I’m alright,” You gave him a smile to assure him. It’s no use in making him worry. “Why do you ask?”
Yoongi deadpanned a little. “I could literally feel how bad you tensed up.” He placed his hand on your thigh and rubbed it up and down to soothe you. “What’s going on?”
You stayed for a silent and Yoongi thinks he’s going to have to coax it out of you but you sigh in defeat and shut your eyes before speaking. “Aren’t you worried that I’m going to somehow… I don’t know. Bring down your reputation?” You ask. You quickly spot a wave of denial wash over him. “You know how most articles paint me already. It’s not that good and I don’t really care what they have to say about me but the fact that I’m Min Yoongi’s partner… It just makes it worse for you. People could call me the worse thing on the planet but the only thing I’m thinking about when they do that is how they’re picturing you. Damn, I-” You cut yourself off as a hard lump form in your throat.
Yoongi’s heart clenched at how broken you really were over it. “(Y/N)... You’re a fool if you think I care about it. And I know you can’t help but worry but don’t. You don’t need to worry yourself about it. And what are you talking about? I’ve seen more articles about you being the best thing to have happened to me than whatever the hell you’ve read.” He tried to joke. He then cupped your jaw and ran his thumb across your jawline. “My reputation means nothing next to you okay? If it’s in shambles tomorrow so be it. All I need is you to get by anyways.”
Tumblr media
Hoseok:
“The manager just ripped us a new one huh?” Hoseok laughed as you both left the meeting room. His manager had just scolded you both because of the recent behavior you had displayed at a party. It’s not like the public had caught wind of it but many VIPs in the entertainment industry had and they were apparently less than appealed by your quirky behavior.
“He’s right. Shit.” You groaned. One too many martinis turned you into a complete douche sometimes. You even vaguely remember untying someone’s bow and using it as a hair tie. Not the best moment.
“Hey,” Hoseok chuckled. “It’s okay Jagi. Look, we got drunk and caused a little bit of a scene. It’s fine.” He tried to reassure you.
You looked at him in disbelief. “Your manager just told us a collab was almost dashed because of that! He had to pull a lot of strings for it to still happen Hobi.”
Hoseok’s smile fell a little. Oh great, now you were making him upset. “(Y/N)... You know that was just a warning right? He said that to prevent you from doing it in the future.”
“That’s exactly it. He doesn’t want me to disgrace you somehow again. All those important people probably thought I was some sort of… Drunk girl who’s way in over her head.”
Hoseok shook his head as he pulled you aside so you guys were away from the people walking about. “You don’t know what you’re saying Jagi… People loved you.”
“If they did, why the hell would your manager scold us like that? I must’ve done something wrong-”
“No, you didn’t.” He affirmed. “Look, our manager has always been like this okay? He makes a huge fuss over the littlest of things. You should see him when he’s actually pissed. I piss my pants when that happens. But what happened back there? It’s nothing. He just wants to prevent you from doing something really drastic and he thinks if he scolds you for the littlest of things, it’s going to stop you from doing so.”
Your eyebrows are still furrowed in reluctance to believing that. “You’re sure?”
Hoseok nodded, frantically wanting you to believe that. He didn’t want you to give yourself a hard time over this. Maybe he should’ve asked the manager to go a little easy on you. “I’m very sure.” he asserted.
Finally letting up, you let your shoulders sag from the tension being lifted off of you. “Fine… But I’ll still stay off getting drunk in public for a while. I don’t want to go through that again.”
Hoseok smiled wide at you for finally believing him, “I’d rather have your goofy drunk self to myself anyway.”
Tumblr media
Namjoon:
“I don’t understand (Y/N). You were fine yesterday and now you suddenly don’t want to meet them? They were excited to finally meet you.” His voice was level but the annoyance in his tone was heavy.
Not like your tone was any better. “I just can’t Joon! And it’s not like I’m telling you that I never want to meet your members, it’s just that I want to wait a little longer.”
“We’ve been seeing each other for more than half a year. Almost a year now!” He exclaimed as he realized. You trapped your bottom lip between your teeth, feeling the gnawing guilt inside you finally catch up to you. “And this is the third time you’ve asked to push this back. Just tell me if you don’t want to see them at all. I look like a fool whenever I have to tell them that you’re not coming again.” The next part came out much softer. Like he’d given up.
Your heart squeezed at it. You groaned in resignation. “I want to meet them… It’s just that…” He looked at you as he waited for your to finish. Your grip tightened on the steering wheel and gave him a glance. “I’m nervous.”
“That’s okay (Y/N)... They’re just as nervous.”
“No, I mean… They know nothing about me save for what they’ve probably heard from you and the millions of articles out there about me.” He looked confused, not knowing what the problem was yet. Yeah, there were a lot of articles about you but that’s because so many people were curious as to who you were. The ordinary girl who somehow is always around Namjoon. They don’t know you guys are dating but that wasn’t important right now.
“And?” He urged you to finish.
“And so that means they probably know me from those articles too. They probably wonder whether I’m really with you for fame, money, or recognition. I haven’t even met them but each of them has some sort of impression of me.” He felt his own head cloud in guilt as he realized you were literally pulling out words from tabloids written about you. “Shit, after last night, they probably know me as someone who sleeps around. I-”
“Wait, what?”
You grimaced at what you had just let slip past you. “My friend sent me an article last night. Someone got a hold of some… Picture of me with my ex. They were made to look recent and it was apparent but you know how people like drama.”
Why were you keeping this to yourself? It explained the sudden change of heart in meeting his members. “You should’ve told me…”
“I tried. But… This happened.” You referred to your argument. Well, at least it was a lot calmer in the car right now.
Namjoon considered his next words carefully and made sure his voice was still soft. “Okay. Fine, we’ll push off this dinner for a while. We’ll wait another year if you want us to. I’m sorry I tried to push this onto you but I really wanted you to meet them. I shouldn’t have lost my head at you like.”
Stopping at a red light, you fully turned to him and smiled at him. “I’m sorry too. For letting shit like this get to my head. But I promise I’ll… I’ll figure something out.”
“Don’t apologize. And we’ll figure something out.” He returned an adoring smile at you. “Now drive before the car behind us decides to run over for stalling a green light.”
Tumblr media
Jimin:
It’s been so long since you’ve been with Jimin… You don’t know why you suddenly have this pit in your stomach now everytime you both go out together. Cameras are a regular part of his life and hence, yours too ever since three years ago. Maybe it was just a phase you were going through but that thought still didn’t reassure you well enough.
Recently you’d found yourself avoiding Jimin. Only because you’re scared. It’s happened before that someone you had dated had incited the fact that you were clingy as the reason for a breakup.
You were always scared that you would get too clingy with him but now with the cameras? And his reputation at stake? You were terrified.
You were only sat on your sofa when harsh bangs on your door almost knocked you off of it. “I’m coming!” There was only a split second’s thought that maybe the person on the other side was Jimin but it was too late as you were standing there, with the door open, looking at a red-faced Jimin who looked more than a little worried.
“You’re okay! Are-” He couldn’t finish his thoughts as his throat threatened to close off on him and instead, he took your face in his hands and brought you close to place a kiss on your lips. “Don’t do that! I’ve been calling you nonstop and you’ve been ignoring me. I thought you were sick or upset at me.”
“I’m not upset at you.” You sighed and moved aside to let him in and shut the front door.
He tilted his head in confusion. “But you are upset.” He stated. It didn’t take a genius to figure that out. You looked a little worse for wear. He waited for an answer but decided that taking a seat would do you both some good. He led you to the sofa and plopped himself on it before pulling you down to sit on his lap. “We don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to.” He reminded you. In no way was he going to force anything out of you.
“I know.” You were probably not ready to tell him yet but maybe a couple hours in just his arms would give you the courage.
Nonetheless, just his presence and sheer support were enough to make you feel better. The previously gnawing thought dissipating as soon as he’d gathered you in his arms.
Tumblr media
Taehyung:
“They won’t bite Jagi. I promise they’re nice.” Taehyung whispered into your ear at your apparent discomfort at all the attention that was now directed towards you and Taehyung. It was supposed to be just a small party at his parent’s but you had no idea they were going to invite so many people over. Granted that they were nice just like Taehyung was telling you.
“I know. They look so sweet and stuff but I’m nervous I’m going to mess up somehow. Like, I’m going to trip over someone’s foot and people are going to think you’re dating some doof who can’t even stand.”
Taehyung looked wide-eyed at your slight outburst but his face morphed into an amused ghost of a smile. “Jagi, that’s very… Imaginative.”
“No, it’s not. It can happen. It’s very plausible it can happen. I’ve done it before so what’s to stop me from doing it now?”
Taehyung pouted as if he was deep in thought. Then he hummed in agreement. “You’re right. You’re just going to trip and my aunt is probably going to think you’re the clumsiest thing on earth.”
“Tae…” You groaned.
“Or that would never happen because I’m right behind you and I’ll catch you if you trip.” He countered. “And then everyone is just going to talk about how well we go with each other.” and that shut you up.
Your eyes were wide at how he turned things around. Only a second ago he was joking around and now he’s looking at you with the utmost care. “Was I overreacting?”
“Just a little. But that’s okay. Shall we go talk to them now? I think my aunt is actually going to burst from the anticipation. She’s been wanting to meet you ever since we started dating.”
Tumblr media
Jungkook:
You groaned loud as you saw a tweet about you while scrolling through your feed, snuggled up with your back against a sleeping Jungkook in bed. It was another ‘You’re not fit enough to be Jungkook’s girlfriend!’ or some other bull like that. Sure you ignored them most of the time and they never bothered you but it always annoyed you that they could be right. Who’s to say you’re the one for him? What if you hurt him or his image in some way? Most people keep saying you will.
“Jagi…” You jumped at Jungkook’s tired voice from behind you. “You shouldn’t pay attention to those things.” He slipped the phone past your fingers and shut it off before throwing to the corner of the bed.
“It wasn’t on purpose…” You whined a little. Jungkook then wrapped his arms around you tighter and brought you closer to press up against his chest. You felt as if he was almost drifting to sleep and dropped trying to continue the subject. Until he surprised you.
“I love you more than words can describe. Everything about you is perfect to me and frankly, I’m always thanking whatever force brought us together because what would I be without you? I get scared to even think about it. People always talk. Even when they have no right or reason to. But the only opinion that should matter is ours.” He squeezed you into his arms. “You get that right?”
You smiled and turned in his arms to see his eyes were trained on you with a crease between his brows. “I do. Now more than ever.” You placed a soft kiss on his lips. “I can’t remember when you became this much of a sap baby.”

MASTERLIST
A/N: The request asked for “unwavering loyalty and support” and I was like  “ThiS IS RighT uP mY alLEy” because damn I have so many emotions for such a sweet and simple prompt. P.s. If you guys haven’t noticed, I’m trying really hard to delve out of the idol requests. After I empty out my inbox, I’ll have new guidelines up as to what I do and don’t do. So! This is the second to last request I’m doing where I’ll be writing about something related to their idol lives. P.p.s. I did end up changing the prompt just a little bit.

TDFL PR W#1
Welcome to the first installment of the TouchDongers Foobaw Lig Power Rankings  yadda yadda this doesn’t really require any introduction – reading this is kind of like waking up in a virtual gulag in a Black Mirror episode. You can feign ignorance all you want, but you know deep down why you’re here, Mohamed Jetta.
I’m hosting this on tumblr because it’s barely more public than a google doc thanks to the porn ban that whisked away all my piss bookmarks just as I was starting to make real inroads on a new fetish. Thanks for nothing you Puritan technocrats. If the pageviews from this post give you 35 more cents in your next worthless sale I demand compensation in the form of 45 second clips of coeds soaking granite countertops.
Pay your league dues so I can indulge my second favorite fluffing pastime of mailing people ostentatious shit they don’t need. I’m accepting submissions for the name of the championship trophy. Current front-runner is The Shiny Hiney so you might want to get on that (and I’m not talking about scaling Griffin’s stark-white cracked mountainside prone to avalanches and civilian suffocation)
WITH PLENTY OF FAFFING ABOUT
10. Leaguema Balls (Dirty Mike)
Record: 0-1 | PF: 73 | PA: 167.7
Playing Next: Airstrip One Ezekiels Engels (Derv)
Questionable Decision of the Week: Living with the knowledge that he gave himself forehead welts
The only man in double digits for team score created a gulf between himself and the rest of the field almost as big as the space between his eyeballs. I’m not saying Mike’s squad is already done for, but on the heels of many players demanding trades from Miami after their week one demolition, Travis Kelce called his agent and said he wouldn’t do another mind-numbingly stupid McDonald’s commercial until he was cut loose to go play for another Dongers contender. Not only was this performance abysmal, but I can’t even label it an outlier because Devonta Freeman is now hurt and his 3 other major skill players are from the NFC North where points are harder to find than Josh Gordon’s 2 week AA chip.
Tumblr media
9. Airstrip One Ezekiels Engels (Derv)
Record: 0-1 | PF: 120.9 | PA: 151.6
Playing Next: I just fukcing did this one
Questionable Decision of the Week: the Mets
Writing a summary of Derv’s fantasy prospects feels a lot like breaking the news to a wounded soldier that he’s had to have his dick amputated. Sure, you’re not technically dead, but what is there to live for? Derv has two good quarterbacks in a league where you can only start one, which marks the first and last time she’ll have two men vying for one of her slots. Zeke ended his holdout just in time to put up 12 points a game because Jerruh will be GOT DAMNED if he pays anyone an obscene amount of money and then has them succeed. Her best wide receiver made softcore porn with Pete Carroll. I’d rather read The Sun Also Rises again than keep looking at this roster to make any more jokes.
Tumblr media
8. James White is Right (Tori)
Record: 0-1 | PF: 131.2 | PA: 173.4
Playing Next: The Queen’s Booty Lickers (Liv)
Questionable Decision of the Week: Thinking that being introverted is a substitute for a personality
Tori ran into a Clemson-scented buzzsaw this week and was really not at fault for the enormity of her loss, which is more than I can say about the fact that 85% of her Sundays vanish into her duvet cover because she got alcohol poisioning after gagging down 3 jello shots and looking at her bottle of listerine before she got into bed. That considered, though, she’s going to need Austin Ekeler to keep putting up 40-point games like he’s not a body double from ‘Honey, I Shrunk the Kids’ AND she’ll need Matt Ryan to learn what side of a football holds the white thingies for her to get any kind of consistent production going forward. Much like she would say about Sacramento being a gangrenous taint, “I just don’t see it.”
Tumblr media
7. Sean’s Hard Mangos (sean)
Record: 0-1 | PF: 130.7 | PA: 136.2
Playing Next: Mark Ruffalo’s Ruffalo Bills (Aidan)
Questionable Decision of the Week: Paying more than the cost of a Notre Dame education for a military-grade laser-guided beard trimmer
Sean dropped his game versus Griffin in the closest fight since the donnybrook between his ex-girlfriend and sanity. A couple breaks here and there and he might have come away with a W. Unfortunately, Tyreek Hill will be out for an indefinite period of time after finding out that it’s hard to box with people who aren’t 5 years old and Evan Engram is going to put up 28 points again as soon as Father Jenkins decides it’s high time to adhere to his vow of poverty. His third-leading scorer this week was his kicker. Last time everyone discovered so obviously that something fishy was afoot Sean needed his location tracked to a downtrodden dormitory fuck-barn.
Tumblr media
6. Mark Ruffalo’s Ruffalo Bills (Aidan)
Record: 1-0 | PF: 151.6 | PA: 120.9
Playing Next: Reading comprehension
Questionable Decision of the Week: $45 says he’s still doing Fontaine to all of his roommates and they’re plotting in equal measures to cut him out of the will and to put a steak knife in his femoral artery
Big boy trade man saw his wheeling and dealing pay off, running contrary to his favorite Silver-and-Black organization, and to the time he swapped his dignity for his desktop toaster oven. Drew Brees stepped up, and not just on the baby footstool he uses to properly gaze into the bathroom mirror to examine his face birthmark that looks like Spaghetti-O cum. Julio and JuJu took the field, which is worth 15 points apiece in standard ESPN scoring. Outside of that, though, we have another aberrant kicker performance, this one from Harrison “Anal” Butker, and Josh Jacobs putting up 25 against a Broncos defense more porous than an Aidan snap group selfie. Expect a greater fall from grace than that of the Robert Pattinson Porsche launching itself from the car WTC.
Tumblr media
5. Cartoon Colt Copulation (Gabe)
Record: 0-1 | PF: 127.1 | PA: 145.3
Playing Next: The Birds Have Arrived (John)
Questionable Decision of the Week: Drafting from Hawaii during my last day on that particular vacation because I value disposable carnal pleasures more than lasting memories with my aging and loving parents
This ranking is like the number of inches I used to tell Tinder hookers after snapping them at 2AM: obviously inflated because I think I’m in control. A charitable read tells you that all of my risky/reachy picks paid off in spades and that I was one Desean Jackson start from starting the season off strong. A realistic assessment brings you back to the reality of the fact that depending on Desean Jackson for a victory is a lot like expecting me to bring you to orgasm. I’m just going to drop out before anyone crosses the line. Can’t wait to be 0-6 by the time AJ Green and Golden Tate come back, leaving me in a scramble for respectability that nobody respects, much like how I acquired my college degree.
Tumblr media
4. Poo Poo Point Diarrheas (Griff)
Record: 1-0 | PF: 136.2 | PA: 130.7
Playing Next: TEAM DUMPSTER BEARS (Lauren)
Questionable Decision of the Week: Being really fucking amped about his band despite ostensibly not being under the influence of cocaine
Griffin’s starting lineup is the quintessential example of boom or bust, which is odd, because I thought the quintessential example of boom or bust was his nightly decision between offing himself and masturbating. Every single one of his starting skill players suits up for the Panthers, the Chargers, or the Rams. That diversity is so poor that it makes Mendoza look like the fucking United Nations. I’d tell you to branch out, Griff, but your bench is thinner than you if you were half your size and if half your size wasn’t also still fat. Will Lutz, your kicker, almost tripled the score of your quarterback. As the signal-caller in question is none other than Cameron Newton, I imagine that we won’t be hearing from Tori for a while, as her resultant pussy surge at a black man’s failure sent all of her electronics into traction.
Tumblr media
3. TEAM DUMPSTER BEARS (Lolo)
Record: 1-0 | PF: 173.4 | PA: 131.2
Playing Next: What cruel twist of fate caused me to do the rankings like this
Questionable Decision of the Week: Letting me find out you actually own a Deshaun Watson jersey as if I didn’t already have enough roasting ammunition
Wowie! High score! Hope you’re hard at work roasting up some tasty crow for me to eat after my little draft-day Clemson jab because A) You cook so infrequently you thought a “burner” was one of the twitter accounts you use to solicit Hunter Renfrow dick pics and B) this is the last week you even sniff this stratosphere of point-getting. It is not often I flex my fantasy football “expertise” because clearly I don’t know shit about fuck but anyone who’s played this sick game of roulette for more than one season has learned the unalienable truth that you CANNOT TRUST SAMMY WATKINS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Holy god that 46.8-spot is a bigger mirage than someone looking at your hair under favorable light and thinking it has volume. Sammy will get run over by a stock car, Deshaun will have his spleen removed in week 6 when Laremy Tunsil turns his back on a bootleg to get fitted for a new nicotine gas mask, and your chances of success will disappear faster than your willingness to take on any more of my emotional baggage once I let you in the cargo hold. Much like our relationship, enjoy it while it lasts.
Tumblr media
2. The Queen’s Booty Lickers (Liv)
Record: 1-0 | PF: 145.3 | PA: 127.1
Playing Next: James White is Right (Tori)
Questionable Decision of the Week: We won’t find out till next week, when she gets in contact again and sends 14 messages, 13 of which relate to topics nobody remembers and 1 of which is feloniously horny
It is cruel fucking fate that the Eagles stans would fly to the top of the power rankings from the word go. I know I attract toxic elements to my life, but being friends with multiple people from Philadelphia is like trying to run a fever to get out of going to school and instead having both your arms fed into an original Eli Whitney cotton gin. Liv didn’t even draft her squad, which probably explains why both Dak and Amari are both properly valued and are on this roster, ready to put up a combined 245 points a game because NFC East teams treat defense like Louis CK does consent. They don’t really think about it much. Hey Liv, hope that reflective road vest is enough to save you when Griffin trips coming out of a show and rolls downhill for 5 miles. It’s a good thing you have OBJ because you both look like closeted lesbians trying to stand out in Catholic school.
Tumblr media
1. The Birds Have Arrived (John)
Record: 1-0 | PF: 167.7 | PA: 73
Playing Next: Cartoon Colt Copulation (idk some guy, poor bastard)
Questionable Decision of the Week: Getting piss on the floor of his bathroom, totally missing my mouth
This is a truly upsetting squad about which to write a recap. John’s team put up the second-most points with consistent performances across the board despite having AB and Melvin Gordon on the shelf. I haven’t been this worried about two people returning since John’s parents told him they were just going down to the store for a pack of cigarettes. It’s tough to not look at this lineup and be intimidated, so now we all know how John’s organs feel when they receive the message from his tastebuds that there’s a combination of peanut butter, salsa, Drano, and barbeque sauce slathered on a cheesesteak coming down the hatch. At least that sub is still more palatable than his dating life. John wanted me to hear two words: Antonio Brown. I got 2(1) words for ya, John: You’re the Anthony Fantano of book reviews if Fantano looked like Steve Brule and had the follower base of the Shakers.

See ya next week!

The Fire That Keeps On Burning: Part 3
Ship: Eventual pokeshipping (some instances of Handyman, Contest, Wishful, Luck, onesided Amour and every Dawn ship ever)
**This particular chapter contains Wishful**
Summary: “I feel like this year is really about, like, the year of just realising stuff.“ - Kylie Jenner. After having achieved everything he thought he ever wanted, Ash spends a year-long journey revisiting his past. This forces him to rethink things. For the 20th anniversary of the Pokemon anime.
Read it on: FFnet || Ao3
(A/N: I was supposed to finish this whole story before April 1st! I had some mad pacing issues with this chapter and the next and I had to rewrite and rearrange them several times, which is why it's so late. The 20th movie isn't out yet, so I'm going to take that to mean that I'm not too late to finish this. There are three pop culture references in this chapter, so kudos to anyone who can spot all three of them!)
Ash held his hand up to the sun, squinting at the light that filtered through his fingers. It was late morning and it was the perfect temperature – warm enough that he didn't need a jacket, but not unbearably hot either.
"You ready for this, Pikachu?"
"Pika, pika!"
Ash laughed. "Why am I asking you anyway? You're just going to sit on my shoulder the whole time like a dead weight."
"Complaining again?" Iris teased. She was carrying no backpack, but she had changed into something more practical than the gowns she had taken to wearing in her public appearances. "You're not having second thoughts, are you?"
"No way." Ash shook his head. "I haven't travelled anywhere on foot in years. Me and Pikachu missed this."
"It's silly that the Kalos League doesn't let you travel anywhere. Outside League business and family time, I mean. I'm glad the Unova region does."
Ash grinned, "Remember how many times we ran into Alder when we were traveling? I don't think he ever went back to Vertress except for the conference."
Iris giggled. "Remember when he kept calling you Ashton?"
Ash laughed heartily, as did Pikachu, both losing themselves in the memory.
"He called you Ashton in a recent interview, actually," Cilan commented, finally stepping outdoors with them. He was carrying a large rucksack, no doubt packed with all of Iris' things. "Everyone was really confused."
Ash rubbed the back of his neck. "I'll bet. I have no idea why he still thinks that's my name."
"He's a little odd, so no one took him seriously."
"He might be odd," Iris said, stretching out her arms, "But I'm grateful to him. He set a precedent for Champions doing their own thing around here. I still want to be more involved with the League than he was, but Haxorus would be bored to bits if we were stuck in the same training room all day."
Ash's stomach twisted uncomfortably. He gave a very sorry glance to Pikachu, who cooed and nuzzled his cheek.
"Well!" Cilan breathed deeply, raising his hands to the air as if he was about to lift off. "The three of us on the road! I didn't think we'd get another opportunity to do this."
"It'll be awesome," Ash agreed, a twinkle in his eye. "Although I know not having me around has been great for the two of you."
Cilan flushed immediately, and Iris sighed. "Look, Cilan. He's learning."
"I almost wish he didn't," Cilan muttered.
Ash chuckled, Pikachu and Iris joining in. It wasn't quite exactly like old times; Ash still wasn't used to almost being as tall as Cilan, and being nearly a foot taller than Iris. Cilan had rolled up his sleeves, possibly in anticipation for the heat, and swapped his old grey waistcoat for a brown one. Instead of a forest of hair, Iris sported two long braids, which she pinned to her head like that actress in that space movie. (Ash decided not to bring it up because he was sure Cilan had seen it, and he didn't want to get him started.) She hadn't kept Axew in her hair for years now, considering he was a haxorus and far too large to be travelling outside of his ball, but it was still disconcerting to see her hair so tidy.
But even being around them was comforting, and all of the friends he visited during his short stay in the region. It was familiar; it took him back to a time when he was really, truly enjoying himself.
"Well, we better get going, right?" Ash placed his hands on his hips. Pikachu mirrored his actions on his shoulder. "Or else we won't make it to Opelucid City in time for my flight."
Iris reached over and flicked Ash's nose, causing him to gasp in pain. "You think you're in charge? Cilan, isn't that adorable?"
"I wish I'd never introduced you to Misty," Ash grumbled, "Cilan, tell your girlfriend to stop bullying me."
"Partner."
"Sorry, partner." Ash scoffed and looked behind him, only to find no one standing where Cilan had been before. "Cilan?"
"There he goes," Iris groaned, slapping a palm to her head. Ash looked the other way to see the green-haired man running down the road.
"I forgot!" Cilan yelled back at them, "Check-in for our hotel closes at six and we simply must get to our room before the connoisseur convention! I won't be walking in covered in sweat!"
"I'm going to pretend I don't know him."
"Good luck trying to convince the media of that," Ash pointed out.
"Then I'll just pretend I don't exist at all."
* * * * * * * *
When Cilan began to climb a tree in order to sleep next to Iris, Ash decided that it wasn't quite just like old times after all.
They'd only travelled for a total of a day, but he was already starting to feel like the third wheel. Even though he'd always lead the way, much like he used to when they were younger, he was vaguely aware of Iris and Cilan behind him being…a couple. They weren't even doing anything explicitly romantic, he could just feel the romance emanating from them. He couldn't possible miss the gooey-eyed looks they'd share, or the brushing of their hands as they walked next to each other. It was all stuff that Serena had tried time and time again on him. He barely understood it in his own relationship, and now he had to play hanger-on to whatever they were doing.
At least he still had Pikachu.
"How'd you guys get together anyway?" Ash asked at the tree, knowing they were in earshot. "You weren't together the last time I met you."
There was no answer at first. Ash heard the rustling of leaves and hoped that only meant they were just adjusting themselves, and not doing anything uncalled for.
Cilan finally cleared his throat. "At your engagement party?"
"Yes."
"We, ah…we actually were."
Ash blinked, and Pikachu perked his nose. This was news to the both of them.
"We've been on and off for several years," Iris explained. "The long distance made it hard."
"I decided to travel on my own, and Iris was still in Blackthorn City…"
"And sometimes I'd go through intensive training where I couldn't talk to anyone outside of the Dragon Holy Land for weeks."
"And when I got back to Unova, it was all research papers and academic work to become an S-Class connoisseur."
"We tried dating for a while, but we were just too busy I guess."
"We called it off…officially."
Iris giggled, and Ash narrowed his eyes. He decided not to dwell on the implications, and scratched the top of Pikachu's head, getting appreciative noises from the mouse. "So what made you two get back together?"
Iris poked her head through a patch of leaves. "Why do you want to know?"
Ash stumbled. "Just – you guys are my friends, and this is –"
"Weird? Awkward?" Iris snorted, "Yeah, I felt the same way at your engagement party."
"Iris," Cilan hissed.
Ash sat up in his seat, immediately stopping his ministrations. He didn't notice Pikachu looking up at him in confusion. "What about my engagement party?"
He didn't get a direct answer. There was some inaudible mumbling coming from the tree. "What was wrong with my engagement party?"
"Nothing was wrong, Ash," Cilan called down, and then grunted as the leaves started to rustle again and the branches started to creak, and Iris jumped down from her perch.
"Yeah, nothing was wrong, it was just weird," Iris leaned back against the trunk as Cilan's foot could be seen searching around for a branch to rest on. "Seeing you almost married, of all people. And before us!"
Ash frowned. "I think I'm a little more mature than I used to be when we were travelling together."
"Maybe I just have a hard time accepting that you're not a little kid anymore, but I don't know." Iris huffed, "And especially with someone like Serena!"
"Wha– what's wrong with Serena?"
"Nothing! Like I said, it's not wrong, it's just weird. I'd never have guessed she was your type."
"My type?"
"Iris," Cilan warned, finally making his way onto the ground. "I never thought I'd fall in love with someone like you either. We're very different too."
"Well, sure," Iris said, although a little disgruntled. "I'm not saying it's wrong."
"Ash." Cilan dusted himself off. "It's weird for both of us because it feels like it happened so fast. We didn't get to watch you grow. But," he placed a hand on his shoulder and smiled warmly at him, "We're really happy that you've found someone to spend the rest of your life with."
Ash sucked on his teeth. "Um, thanks."
"And we're really proud of how far you've come. And what you've achieved."
"We always knew you could do it," Iris grinned.
Ash grinned back, but he was aware that it didn't quite reach his eyes. Instead of putting his mind to rest, their statements only raised a lot more questions that he wasn't sure how to address.
"Are you guys happy?" was what he finally settled on, and he earned puzzled looks from the both of them.
"What do you mean?" Cilan asked.
"With life. Where you are, and all that."
"Hell yeah!" iris laughed, "I'm the Champion of Unova, what more could I want?"
"I've wanted to be an S-class connoisseur all my life, Ash. You know that."
Ash bit his lip. He felt Pikachu place a paw on his ears, and looked into his eyes to find something like sadness? Pity? Whatever it was, Ash didn't want to see it anymore. He rubbed the critter's ears for a moment to comfort him.
Cilan crouched down so he was in Ash's line of view. "Why do you ask?"
"No reason." Ash gave them another smile, making sure it was a little wider this time. And for extra measure he added, "I'm proud of you guys too."
The truth part must cancel out the lie.

"Clearly this is more complicated than just Serena," Misty mused.
Ash rolled his eyes. Because of course, when he talked to her he had to tell her everything. It's a good think his drunk self was sensible enough not to spill in front of Gary, because Gary wouldn't given him hell for it. He felt bad enough dumping things on Misty; he would stop if she didn't keep insisting.
"Pikachupi!" A flash of yellow appeared on the table and jumped into the giggling redhead's arms. Ash watched, heart soaring, as both Misty and Pikachu clung to each other. The little guy probably missed Misty just as much as he did – he hadn't looked this happy to see anyone so far.
Misty placed a soft kiss near Pikachu's ear. "I missed you too, Pika-pal." She quirked an eyebrow at Ash, "Where have you been hiding him all this time?"
"All Pikachu's done for the past two days is sleep," Ash complained, "He's let himself go."
"He let himself go?"
"Pikachu!"
"Okay, okay! I let him slack off."
Pikachu harrumphed, and scurried his way onto Misty's shoulder. She nuzzled his cheek and turned her attention back to Ash.
"Why didn't you tell them anything?"
Ash could tell she was trying hard to look nonchalant – her forehead was creased in a way it shouldn't have been, and her lips were puckered in that way they were when she grit her teeth too hard.
"I didn't want to seem ungrateful," Ash replied quietly. Pikachu made his way off of Misty's shoulder and sat down in front of Ash, putting a paw on his hand. Ash smiled at the pokémon thankfully and scratched him under the chin.
"You're allowed to not enjoy your job, no matter how good it is. And Ash," she called, forcing him to look up and meet her eyes, "If I can be honest? You seem really unhappy with where you're at right now."
"Hm." She was right, as usual. But he still felt sick to the stomach for other reasons he wasn't sure how to bring up yet.
"And you seem like you have a pretty good reason to be unhappy, too."
"I couldn't tell them anyway." Ash shifted underneath Misty's questioning gaze. "Especially to Iris. I didn't want to dishearten her from her role."
Misty frowned. "That's…a valid argument, I suppose."
Ash had noticed for a while that at that part of the morning, the sun shining through the window was positioned right behind Misty and made her look like she was glowing. He could have stared at her forever if she hadn't opened her mouth again. "Disheartened, that's a big word."
Ash sighed. "Very funny."
Misty giggled cheerily, and a disgruntled Ash noted Pikachu happily skipping back to his spot on her shoulder. "Okay, so what next?"
* * * * * * * *
"And Randall is down to his last pokémon! It looks like this might be it for the challenger, folks!"
League battles were normally exciting, but now that Randall had made it to the Elite Four, he had a lot to look forward to. He remembered the boy from way back during his first journey in Kalos, and Randall had come a far since then. Ash thought he might actually meet him in a championship battle.
But a couple of key mistakes were costing Randall his match against Wikstrom. The steel-type Elite Four still had four pokémon remaining to Randall's one. And knowing that the last member of the challenger's team was a sylveon, it would be near impossible for him to turn things around.
"Elite Four Wikstrom has chosen to withdraw his scizor and send out Klekfi! The challenger has sent out his last pokémon, a sylveon!"
Ash could see the uncertainty in Randall's demeanour. And so could the rest of his elite four.
"Tough," Malva commented, and Siebold nodded in agreement.
It was, and it showed – Randall was defeated quickly. Sylveon tried to hold its own for a while, but it just wasn't working out for either of them.
"I was really rooting for this one too," Drasna sighed, "He seems like such a sweetheart."
Ash clenched his fist and rose from his seat, letting Pikachu jump onto his arm.
"Ash?" Siebold asked.
"I'm just heading out for a while," he explained.
"Where?"
"Everyone will notice," Malva pointed out.
"Then let them," he grunted, leaving the League box.
He nodded at the guards stationed outside the doorway and made his way through the various passageways of the stadium. Unlike other leagues, the Kalos League was held in a different place every year. He never got the opportunity to learn his way around every time, but luckily this year he had access to a map of all the hidden passageways that the security used to get around the place.
Because he was oh so good at reading a map.
His holo caster beeped in his jeans pocket, and he checked it out to find a text message from Bonnie.
'They showed you running out on the big screen,' it said, along with an assortment of confused emojis. He winced.
"Pikapi?" Pikachu asked, tugging at his collar.
"I'm alright, buddy. I just needed to stretch my legs. Wanna go visit Randall?"
Pikachu nodded, and together they began the search for the challenger's waiting room. Ash had enough sense to know it would be opposite to the league side of the stadium, so he made his way straight to the other side. It didn't take long to find the place, and he snuck inside before anyone could notice him. Randall had just finished his interview and walked in right as Ash did.
"Randall, hey!" he waved, brushing off the boy's shocked expression, and gave Pikachu the opportunity to greet him too. "Just wanted to see how you were holding up.
The teen took a dejected seat next to Ash. "I sucked."
"I wouldn't really say sucked…"
"I screwed up big time. I made some serious mistakes." He sighed. "I thought since I won the conference, it'd be easy pickings until I had to battle you."
Ash grinned wryly. "Yeah, it's easy to get cocky."
That didn't seem to reassure Randall. He only slumped dejectedly, his lower lip sticking out as he glared at the floor. "I guess I have a lot of improving to do, huh?"
"We all do," Ash murmured. "Even me. And definitely Pikachu." The mouse glared at him, and Ash passed him an affectionate smile. "It doesn't matter if you lose, or if you've already made it to the top, you still can't…stop there…"
Sure, Ash had started pulling his spiel right out of his ass, but he realised he might be onto something. It wasn't that he'd stopped training his pokémon – he owed it to them to continue – but they hadn't been presented with a challenge in years. Sometimes there would be a good exhibition match, but none of the conference winners had made it far enough for Ash to have a battle he could really sink his teeth into.
"Hey, Ash?" Randall said, waving his hand in front of Ash's eyes, "You zoned out."
"Sorry," he breathed. He clecked his hands resting on his knees and turned to the boy with a new zeal. "Say, did you ever go any place during your journey that you'll never forget?"
Randall furrowed his brow. "Everywhere, I guess."
"Yeah, but anywhere in particular? Got a recommendation?"
"Uh…well I was just at the Sinnoh Battle Zone. I didn't win anything, but it was pretty cool."
"Of course." Ash rose from his seat. Pikachu, who had been sitting next to him, jumped back onto his arm. The pokémon couldn't possibly know what Ash was thinking, but he could always sense it because he looked excited too. "Remember it, okay? Never forget how much fun it was. Your journey will always be the best part of being a trainer. I gotta go now, Professor Sycamore will kill me! Good luck with everything!"
"Ash, wait –"
Ash was already down the corridor before Randall could finish his sentence. He felt a little bad for leaving the young trainer confused, and without real answers, but when Ash was feeling an impulse he couldn't deny. Pikachu was clinging onto his shoulder for deal life, protesting at Ash's speed.
"I know you're confused, pal, but I just thought of something! Do you remember how much fun we had travelling around with Iris and Cilan?"
"Chuuuuu!"
Ash wasn't sure if that was Pikachu agreeing with him or squealing at how fast Ash was running, but he decided it didn't matter. "That's what we've been missing, Pikachu. A journey. You want to travel again, don't you?"
"Pikachu!"
That was definitely an approval. Ash grinned. He slowed to a stroll when he noticed that he was nearing the champion's box, and that a crowd had gathered around. Professor Sycamore, who was now the League's key organiser, looked stressed and confused, and Ash's manager Trevor was red in the face. Even Serena, Clemont and Bonnie had showed up, but thankfully no press. His fiancée spotted him turn the corner before anyone else did and she opened her mouth to speak, but Ash raised a finger to his lips, beckoning her to come closer. She frowned, tugging at Bonnie's sleeve and pulling the siblings along with her.
"Where did you go?" she whispered, "Trevor's been losing his mind."
"And you didn't respond to my texts," Bonnie pouted.
"I went to see how Randall was doing."
"You could've just said –"
"That's not important. I just figured out something big." He turned to his partner, eyes shining. "Serena, you know how I haven't been sleeping, right?"
Clemont, who previously looked interested at the prospect of Ash having 'figured out something big', now looked concerned. "You haven't been sleeping?"
"Yeah, but I think I know why!"
"You haven't been sleeping?" Bonnie repeated.
"So why is it?" Serena asked, not bothering to elaborate on Ash's latest nightly habits.
"I'm bored!" Ash announced, as if this made all the sense in the world. When he noticed their confused expressions, he continued, "I haven't been out of Kalos in ages, except for a few days here and there. When I was in Unova in Iris and Cilan, we got to travel for a bit – by foot, just like we used to – and I remembered how much fun it was. I forgot all about that!"
Apparently this wasn't the explanation they were expecting, because they all looked a little shocked. In Serena's case, she even looked a little hurt.
"So you're saying…you're bored here?"
Ash's eyes widened. "What? No! I love it here!" Some small part of his brain reminded him that he wasn't being all too honest, but Ash ignored it. "I've just…I've been doing the same thing over and over for years. I think I just need some time off, and not just for a week. I want to see a new place, battle new people! You guys remember how it is, right?"
They exchanged glances for long enough that Ash was almost convinced they thought he was crazy. Everything made much more sense in his head! Pikachu looked just as determined as he felt on his shoulder, so at least he understood.
But then Clemont broke out into a smile. "Those were great times we had."
"The best," Bonnie sighed.
They turned to Serena, who had bit her lip. "Yeah, you're right." Again, that small part of his brain told him Serena didn't seem as enthusiastic as the others, but he didn't let that get him down. "But how long were you planning on being gone?"
"A few months, tops. It's nothing! I kept in touch with you guys after I left Kalos too, remember?"
Bonnie snorted. "Barely."
"So you're used to it." Ash smirked. "It's only temporary. I'll be back before you know it."
Clemont adjusted his glasses. "Well it's not up to us, but I think it's a good idea." They all turned to Serena, who was tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
"You have to call me every time you get to a pokémon centre, or a new place."
Ash let out a breath he didn't know he was holding. "Of course."
"And take your holo caster with you."
"Wasn't planning on leaving it behind. And Pikachu will make sure I'm safe, right?"
"Pikachu!"
"Pikachu's just as reckless as you are," Serena muttered.
He squeezed her shoulder and pushed past the three of them. "Thanks guys, now I gotta go tell Professor Sycamore!"
* * * * * * * *
Ash had barely arrived in the resort area of Sinnoh's Battle Zone when the ground shook beneath his feet. From the looks of the people gathered around, it couldn't have been the first tremor they'd experienced.
"What do you think that's about, Pikachu?"
Pikachu pointed to the great wall of smoke rising from what he could only assume to be Stark Mountain looming over the town. Ash was under the impression that it was a dormant volcano, so it couldn't cause tremors…right?
"Clemont would know what's going on," Ash muttered under his breath.
"Or ye could just ask a local," a voice said behind him, causing Ash and Pikachu to jump and spin right around. "These tremors 'ere would be caused by Stark Mountain up there, yer Pikachu's right."
It was a tall bearded man, wearing a trench coat too thick for early spring. His accent seemed very contrived – unable to place and too thick to be true. There was something about him that screamed trouble, and Ash was unable to ignore it – even if he wasn't sure just what kind of trouble it was.
"Er, thanks," Ash nodded and turned to be on his way, but a hand on his shoulder stopped him.
"Y'know, if I was you, I'd be headin' up that-a-way before the fight area."
Ash raised an eyebrow. "How did you know I was going to the fight area?"
"Well, aren't you the Champion of Kalos?"
Ash shared an embarrassed look with Pikachu. "Yeah…"
"So I assume ye won't be takin' part in any o' the contests around here." The man scratched his chin. "But just because yer a Chapmion don't mean Palmer'll be that easy to beat. Even Cynthia has trouble with 'im once in a while. Stark Mountain happens to be a great place ta train up."
Ash swore he saw a few crumbs fall out of the man's beard as he scratched it. His instincts were telling him not to trust this man, but he did have a point. Ash had battled Palmer himself when he was in Sinnoh, and he knew it wouldn't be easy.
But he still had his reservations. "Are you sure Stark Mountain's even safe right now? What about that –"
"Giant tower o' smoke?" The man shook his head, "Y'always see that comin' outta Stark Mountain. The tremors are a little weird, but it ain't erupted yet. I wouldn't worry about it if I was you, kiddo."
It didn't sound very reassuring.
"What do you think, Pikachu?" he asked. Pikachu looked just as uncertain as he felt, but he nodded slowly.
"I'll let you to decide for yerselves," the stranger nodded, pulling his coat tighter over his shoulders, "But you'll see I'm right."
Ash and Pikachu watched through narrowed eyes as he walked away, disappearing into an alleyway between two nearby buildings.
"Strange," he murmured. He turned to look back at Stark Mountain, the plumes looking a lot blacker than you would expect from your regular cloud of ash. "But maybe it'll be worth a shot."
* * * * * * * *
When Ash saw the Team Rocket grunts hanging around the pokémon centre in the survival area, he started to feel like he'd been set up.
"I know there was something weird about that guy," he grumbled under his breath.
"Chu," Pikachu agreed.
"You could tell, couldn't you? It wasn't just me."
"Pika-pika."
"I bet he was part of Team Rocket too. Probably sending us straight into a trap."
He was curious though – what was Team Rocket doing in Sinnoh? Apart from Jessie, James and Meowth, and one stint in Unova, he hadn't seen them anywhere. They tended to stick to Kanto and Johto as far as he was aware.
He wasn't even sure the aforementioned trio were still a part of Team Rocket. They hadn't followed him around in years. It probably got too boring for them when he started staying in the one city.
Which he could understand. He only hoped they were happy doing whatever they were.
Deciding he should scope the area out, he strode towards the door of the pokémon centre and headed in. He noticed many Rocket eyes on him, and he suddenly wished he had a hat that he could hide under. As expected, inside the pokémon centre, an additional two grunts were threatening Nurse Joy. So Ash acted without thinking.
"Hey!" he barked, "Leave Nurse Joy alone!"
Pikachu jumped off of his shoulder, cheeks sparking and ready to go. The grunts turned to face them, their eyes flicking between Ash, his partner and each other.
"Kenan," one of the grunts hissed in a very loud whisper, "That guy's the Kalos Champion!"
"I can see that," Kenan the grunt muttered back.
The grunt's eyes flit between his partner and Ash. Ash almost felt sorry for the guy when he straightened up – he was clearly nervous. "Uh, we're not up to anything weird. We're just getting potions and stuff."
"Kel!" Kenan groaned.
"What?"
"Shut up!" He pulled a poké ball off of his belt. "Let's take him out ourselves before one of the other grunts does! Then maybe we'll get promoted!"
Finally, Ash thought, breathing a sigh of relief. Their exchange was all too familiar, so Ash felt a little odd interrupting them before they were finished. But now they were aggravating a battle, so he didn't have to hold back.
"Alright Pikachu, use –"
"Ash, m'boy!"
Ash turned to see the same man he'd run into in the resort area walking towards him. "What? How are you –"
The man strolled over casually, wearing a wide smile as if he hadn't interrupted anything serious, and threw an arm over Ash's shoulder. "It's so nice of you to come all the way out 'ere to see yer poor uncle!"
"What?"
"Just go with it," he hissed in Ash's ear in a very different voice and a very different accent. Ash's eyes widened, and darted towards Pikachu. The mouse had lost his fighting stance and looked just as unsure as he was.
"D-don't mention it," Ash finally managed, eyes darting between Pikachu, the two grunts, and the old man. "It's good to see you again, Uncle…Grey-Beard."
If Ash hadn't been watching him at the moment, he would've missed the man's eye twitch slightly. "Let's head on over ta my jeep so I can drive ya to my cabin that's very far away from 'ere!"
"Righto!" Ash laughed nervously. He held his arm out for his pokémon to jump on. Their captive pulled them out of the centre and into the passenger seat of a jeep, and Ash chose not to struggle – something about the urgency in the man's face told him to avoid making a fuss.
Besides, he looked pretty frail and Ash could probably fight his way out of trouble if he needed to.
It wasn't until they were well on the road that Ash decided to speak up again. "What was that all about?"
"You're smart, Ash," the man replied, in that normal voice of his that Ash now realised was somewhat familiar. He'd definitely met this guy before, and more than once. "I'm sure you can figure something out."
"You're in disguise," Ash stated, and the man nodded.
"That's obvious."
"Chu-pikachu," Pikachu pointed out, reaching over and tuggling gently at the man's beard, enough to reveal that it was fake.
"Looker?"
"Wonderful!" Looker grinned, "You remember me! I was wondering if you would. You have met a lot of people on your travels after all."
"Why'd you pull me away from Team Rocket? They were threatening Nurse Joy!"
"Hardly," Looker snorted. "The Joys in these parts are tougher than they look. She could handle herself if things went sour, and those two were hardly a threat. Besides, she's in on my mission – which you nearly interrupted."
"Mission?"
"International Police, remember?"
"I know that, but what kind of mission?"
Ash couldn't tell Looker's expression under all of that hair, but the silence was enough to know that the agent wasn't going to give him any immediate answers. "I'm not sure it's my jurisdiction to tell you."
Ash rolled his eyes. "How is it you could trust me with classified information when I was fourteen but not now?"
"Because this particular mission isn't just an International Police matter."
"Who else is in on it then?" The G-Men?"
"The Sinnoh League."
Ash blinked. How could a league be involved in espionage. Or at least he assumed it was espionage. Either way, it was reasonable to assume that they were trying to take down Team Rocket since he ran into those grunts, and he never knew a pokémon league could be involved in that sort of thing.
"Ah yes," Looker mused, "They don't do that in the Kalos League, do they? You don't generally get involved in regional crime and justice and such."
"It used to be like that ages ago." Pikachu crawled into Ash's lap, and he began to pet the mouse absentmindedly. "And Diantha helped out with Team Flare."
"But now that Greninja of yours has everything covered."
Ash pursed his lips. "We don't have a lot of major crime in Kalos. It's very peaceful."
"Funny, I thought you being a Champion there would change that."
Ash glanced at Looker from the corner of his eye, which the officer apparently noticed because he added, "Not because of how you do you job! It's just that trouble has a knack for following you around. I don't remember many other trainers I've run into more than once, let alone worked with."
Ash didn't have much to say to that. He always attributed the peace to Team Rocket having stopped following him around. He didn't think too much on it either – his journey was over, so he didn't have a lot of opportunities to get into trouble after settling down.
The fact that he managed to get involved in something new almost the minute he started another journey confirmed this much.
"Where are you taking me?"
"To our base."
Ash's eyes widened. He thought Looker would just drop him elsewhere, away from whatever they were doing. He wanted to get involved, of course, but Looker hadn't been forthcoming enough to justify any hope.
The agent chuckled. "C'mon Ash, I practically led you here! I knew this was something you'd want to get involved with, and frankly, we need the extra help."
"So you tricked me?!"
"Of course not! I'm only introducing you to a new possibility. I have a feeling Team Rocket was going to spread out to the rest of the Battle Zone soon enough, so you would have known about it anyway. And you'd more than likely do something reckless. It'll be safer for both of us if we just brought you on the mission."
"You can't just assume –"
"Here we are!" The jeep had arrived before what looked like the slope of a mountain, but as they drove closer, a section of the slope opened to reveal a cave.
Which, admittedly, looked pretty cool.
Looker, Ash and Pikachu got out of the vehicle and made their way through a complicated series of tunnels, all artificially lit and well equipped just like a secret base from the movies would be. Looker kept speaking into a small device until they arrived in a large room, with large screens and people bustling around.
"Am I supposed to be in here?" Ash whispered to Looker.
"Hey, Cynthia!" Looker called, and Ash finally noticed the presence of the Sinnoh Champion at the head of a table in the middle of the room. And she didn't look pleased.
"Ash Ketchum? What are you doing here?" She turned to Looker. "What is he doing here?"
Looker rubbed the back of his neck. "I told you I'd bring you a great trainer, didn't I?"
"Yes, but I assumed you'd find someone heading towards the fight area!"
"I was heading to the fight area." Cynthia turned her glare at Ash, and he flinched. "Uh, I took a sabbatical from the Kalos League."
Cynthia's face relaxed, and she looked much more like the person Ash was used to dealing with. "Well in that case, we could use some help."
Ash crossed his arms. "I don't know how much I can help if I don't know what this mission is about."
Looker and Cynthia swapped a look before the woman nodded to the table, bringing them over. "Team Rocket has set up a base in Stark Mountain, and we think they're responsible for the increased volcanic activity there. They don't know we're watching. They also don't think anyone knows they're there."
"They do now," Looker snorted.
Ash let out a singular, almost hysterical laugh, and immediately regretted it. "Sorry."
"Chu," Pikachu agreed.
Cynthia narrowed her eyes. "But you didn't blow our cover?"
"Nope, took care of that!" Looker snapped his fingers. "They still don't know we've been monitoring them."
"Good." She tapped at her chin. "But this might mean we need to move things forward a little faster."
"If you already know about Team Rocket's base then why don't you just stop them?" Ash asked.
"We think it's a lot bigger than just a base. We think they're mining for something – or searching. We don't have the details."
"If they're searching, it could be for a Magma Stone," Looker added, "But whatever it is, they're not intent on being found. So they won't be pleased to know you've seen them. You would have had to keep a low profile until we shut them down."
Cynthia nodded. "And we don't know how long this will take."
Looker was right. Ash might've been tricked, but he'd been tricked into the right hands – he had already been ready to take on those grunts by himself, as well as any backup around the pokémon centre, and that would've put a giant target on his back. He was too famous to just leave the Battle Zone; he'd have to go into hiding.
But he still did have to get back to Kalos in time.
Finally it came down to Pikachu, but one look told him they were both already on the same page. "My hiatus lasts two months," Ash finally said.
Cynthia smiled gratefully. "We'll see what we can do."

How can I lower my auto insurance?
I am 20 years old. I live in Florida which is by far the WORST states to have auto insurance. I've only been in 2 accidents, both not my fault. One was a small fender bender (which my friend decided to get a PIP claim even though he didnt get hurt so he could snag some money from the government). The other i totaled my car, but that was over 2 YEARS AGO. This is a no fault state which sucks because both of them werent my fault!!!!! Currently my auto insurance is 253 dollars! I'm a college student and i CANNOT afford that, but thats the cheapest one I found. Geico and all the popular ones wont even look at me. And it also adds on the my mom was in an accident (also not at fault) she got hit from behind at a red light and of course they penalized her for that too. Florida is a fraud state, they penalize you for everything when its no fault. Does anyone know how i can lower my auto insurance? It's been 2 years since I totaled my car and almost 2 and a half 3 years from the small fender bender. I also got a small speeding ticket from maybe september or december of last year, but thats it. no other tickets. thanks!""

Car insurers recommendations?
hi there people, Since passing my test in December, I have been looking to buy (and insure) a car. Shortly I will be able to afford a little run around and have been getting insurance quotes for cars like the Fiesta and Corsa. I have noticed that over the last few months comparison site quotations have jumped from an average of 1800 to 3000 for someone in my circumstances. I have read and understand why car insurance has been hiked up, no win no fee claims are more popluar, fraud and bogus claims and economic recession are responsible for a massive increase in car insurance premiums...Im so angry at these things. I cannot believe this as I though 1800 was extortionate to begin with. I have found Elephant insurance who are quoting me reasonable prices however, back to around the 1800 mark. Please can you recommend any other good car insurers for first time drivers. I am 33 and live in Manchester England. All the big name insurance sites that appear on comparison sites see like a rip off, so any smaller insurers you have had experience of would be useful;, Thanks.""

Is there such thing as temporary car insurance?
My grandparents are coming from montreal and staying for a couple months. I was told by my grandfather that I could use the car they drove down in while they are staying with me. Seeing as I'm not apart of their insurance policy, is there any way to purchase temporary auto insurance? I doubt it exists, but I guess its almost like renting a car and buying temporary insurance. Im confused can someone help?""

Will upgrading my car Increase my Insurance?
Lets say I bought a $3500 Honda Civic(Decent Condition). Now, lets say I got a paint job, new hood(sporty), redid the dash, maybe replace the engine with a faster(speed wise) one(these are just examples, not gonna do it), would that increase your Insurance because I know they increase your insurance if you buy a sporty car right off the bat.
