Book Cover of Cat's Apocrypha 24x30 Oil on Canvas Look at all the books in their the spiderwebbed shelves.
How should you study? How should you research?
Is it dark in your mind? Is it dark inside? This was my first cover design for the novel I'm working on. I might repaint this another day.

its bugs me so much when horror media/content starts out with a really great concept and then runs it into the ground by inflating the lore and over explaining everything

clara reaching back into the unknown darkness for several long, agonizing seconds "i'm right please god say i'm right" AND THEN SHE IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the core of their relationship plays out right there: clara can and will defy death, and the doctor will always save clara, even when it seems impossible. (and it's crucial that this is the first really doctor-y moment he has as twelve.) the growth and distortion of these fundamental beliefs drive the two of them to their eventual end.

Language barriers in whump my beloved:
Whumpee’s disorientation when Whumper speaks to or around them in a language Whumpee can’t understand.
Multiple Whumpers talking about Whumpee right in front of them.
Whumpee’s frustration when they’re given orders they don’t understand—then their fear, as Whumper still clearly expects them to obey.
Whumpee forced to rely on reading Whumper’s body language to survive.
Insults, pet names, and threats that Whumpee simply doesn’t catch.
Whumpee slowly recognizing a few words, but being ridiculed or humiliated when they try to speak any.
Caretaker and Whumpee who speak different languages, each slowly teaching the other.
Whumper tasks Medic with cleaning Whumpee up, and Medic teaches Whumpee their language any moment they can (maybe it’ll keep them alive).

Thinking about William as a metaphor for disability again. Thinking about how William got into an accident and suddenly he's watching his body rot and fall apart. How does he cope with that? How do his family and friends cope with that? Thinking about how he died, and in a way he and the people around him have to mourn that. How when you're recently disabled you might mourn the ability you've lost, and people around you might mourn because they believe they've lost something too even though you're still RIGHT THERE. Thinking about the monsters in Deadwood being attracted to the wisps and ultimately forcing him to leave home and how that reflects the world suddenly becoming inhospitable and hostile towards you overnight. How rather than making Deadwood safer for William, he had to just leave. How often the way the world treats disabled people forces them to retreat from it in some way. How William was just arguing that the Lich didn't have rights because it wasn't alive, and then finding out he's dead too. How disabled people have their personhood stripped from them by people who think they'll never be disabled so why should they care. Are you listening to me

You guys ever think about how Mr.Incredible is one of Disney/Pixar’s saddest character?
Like it’s the night of your wedding, you save the day same as usual but the next day you discover you are the final nail in the Superhero coffin. Supers are outlawed, hundreds are loosing their jobs because YOU did your job and saved a man.
It’s years later and you and your family have gone into witness protection essentially. House after house, school after school, all to fit in to this world. You get fired and you get a note offering you a high paying job. Finally! You get to be a hero again AND support your family. Your bonding with them again, getting into shape, everything is perfect!
Then it happens, you find out that this program was designed for you. To kill you. And it’s been tested on hundreds of supers before you, all to kill YOU. And this whole plan was concocted by the one boy you turned your back on that night.
This villain of your own making.
Because if you your friends lost their jobs. And now, they’ve lost their lives.
And of course Bob has to realize all that, his whole world crashing down on him. Next thing you know, you’re tied up by the psychopath you made and he, supposedly, kills your wife and children who were coming to rescue you.
Just a tragic story.

In case it hasn't been made clear, Behind The Codes is not a horror series. Despite having some disturbing themes, it doesn't focus on them the same way FNAF games did.

god I love how this episode makes you completely recontextualize everything in both this and the previous one with the reveal of sanitized filter showfall uses, and its all revealed just from that one scene of charlie's dissection. the unanswered questions make it so much more rattling.
it paints such an eerie feeling over the entire rest of stream. any slapstick moment loses a lot of it's comedy because of the implied reality of the scenario. the reactions from those who broke free from the control helped sell it a lot as well.
the shot of sneeg staring in horror at charlie off screen while everything and everyone around him just kind of pauses? brutal.
and the fact that most of the offscreen deaths were never shown, but were often treated with the most sincerity as well. it both works as effective horror and also as a way to work around format limitations.
shoutout the fear of the unknown. it's such a good horror device.

I mourn that there wasn't canon TMA content where all the fear avatars hung out, went to parties etc. Like tea on Tuesdays where they all commiserate about the horrors, it's the only time any of them ever get along they have one day where they all agree it's just a gossip/fear session, they take turns hosting.
