Brain Overflow

You know how in my last 'state of the author' post I said I could feel the urge to write coming back?

Oh, it has.

It's terribly inconvenient too. I'm going to tell you a little about some of the things I've been thinking of and then whine/wibble a tiny bit if you click through to behind the cut. (You don't have to read the last bit!)

I've written down three different SVSSS (LiuShen) ideas in the last couple of weeks, added a few thoughts to older ideas, made a mental note of possible Cultivate extras, and just refused to write down others so as not to encourage rampant plot bunny breeding.

But let me tell you about a few of them because I'm hoping it reduces the urge to work on them better than just typing up notes.

The Lady Blackbird fusion Not sure what Lady Blackbird is? Well, it's a free tabletop rpg that you can download here. But the TL;DR is, "Sort of like steampunk Star Wars: A New Hope + Firefly + potential Jane Austen novel, if you want." I'll just C&P the pitch here: Lady Blackbird is an Imperial noble fleeing from an arranged marriage to be with her secret lover, the pirate king Uriah Flint. To reunite with him, she has hired a notorious smuggler and the crew of his skyship, The Owl. However, The Owl has been captured by an Imperial cruiser. How will Lady Blackbird and the others escape? What dangers lie in their path on the way to the pirate king’s lair? Can you see where this is going? (Actually, probably not your first thought, no.) We start with Shen Yuan transmigrated in a xianxia-by-way-of-steampunk gown, sitting in a jail cell with several men, a teenage boy, and a veiled teenage girl. System helpfully informs him that he is now "Lady" Blackbird, on the run to end up in the arms of Pirate King Mobei-Jun. His cell-mates are, as follows: Smuggler Captain Liu Qingge, Lady Blackbird's personal bodyguard Liu Mingyan who suggested her brother when LB said she wanted to escape, the ship's mechanic Shang Qinghua, the ship's doctor Mu Qingfang (or they pick him up later, I haven't decided), and "a goblin named BingBing". While SY is busy freaking out that System can't fool him - that's the Protagonist, Luo Binghe!!! wtf!!! System says "later, loser" and more-or-less abandons him (though still employing an OOC ban). So now you can probably see where this is going, lol. It involves at least a brief period where SY has to crossdress and pretend to be one of Binghe's future wives - a fiancée/wife of Mobei-Jun as Liu Qingge gets very conflicted feelings about his troublesome passenger. Featuring lots of Cumplane friendship, sassy MQF (as a treat), teenage smirking (likely aided and abetted by the adults), and space whales (naturally). I have not yet fully decided if the story Shen Yuan read was PIDW and now he has to figure out how the infiltration of "space with gears on it" into his xianxia has fucked up what he and Airplane know, or if the story was something like "Proud Immortal Starlit Way" and it was always like that. (Thoughts?) ---

The "SY Bodysnatches MQF" idea What it says on the tin... SY accidentally ends up in MQF's body instead of SQQ's. Only MQF isn't gone - he remains. This occurs directly before the Demonic Invasion and double qi deviation part of the plot and they rush back to the sect to deal with that. Then things get messy while they conspire to get SY his own body. Featuring: An extremely confused Liu Qingge, eventual Shenbros, and aro-ace MQF being very bemused at all times. ---

The "LQG Gets De-Aged/Age-Regressed" idea As you can guess: LQG gets age-regressed. This happens in Lingxi Caves instead of his death-by-deviation. He latches onto SY-SQQ and SY-SQQ is helpless to do anything but take the cute kid in. Featuring: BingLiu friendship, possibly Bing-other disciples friendship, but mostly establishing bro-code that makes Binghe switch his infatuation with SY-SQQ into family feelings as soon as LQG regains his adult body and it becomes clear that LiuShen is happening. ----

This is along with: Joint Custody (LiuShen), my SJ-SQQ second-chance redemption fic (LiuShen and LiuJiu, but different LQGs), a peak lords ascension fic using Cultivate's backstory (LiuJiu), a LiuShen timeloop fic, and at least another half a dozen fic ideas sitting in the hopper that aren't nearly as developed/that I am not burning to write yet.

I'd love to know which ideas you guys are most interested in. ;) Joint Custody is still next regardless and I'll probably not be working on either of the LiuJiu fics in the near future because they are definitely 100k+ territory and I'm still not ready for that. But knowing people are hype for something keeps me hype. ;3

I'll probably be in this fandom awhile, y'all. Please send help.

Sadly, I can't work on any of them yet, because I have over 2,600 messages in my inbox waiting for me to respond to. (This is not a humble brag - this is thousand-yard-stare territory. It was somewhere over 3000 for awhile until I started making a list of people who generally only left emojis or thanks and let them know that I was going to just thank them for all of them in one email so they didn't peppered by replies in kind.)

Not that I'm complaining about them, because I missed replying to comments so much (it's genuinely one of my favorite parts about writing fanfic), but it's still a lot and even if I could manage 100 replies a day (which for mental health reasons, I really can't), it's going to take awhile.

This is such a sweet and fun ask!! Thanks so much! I enjoyed seeing other authors answering this it’s so hype to get it myself.

1. This is hard to answer, because this year I tried to do something different with every fic I posted. When I got a concept I very pointedly didn’t shy away from it because it seemed difficult, or I thought I might be bad at it, so there’s something that makes me proud with each one. IF I HAD TO CHOOSE THOUGH I’m going to cheat and pick two.

What it Will Be I’m proud of this because it fell out of me SO EASY. I felt like the process of writing it was a testament to how hard I’ve been working at improving all year, and it came together very quickly and very well. I’m also proud because I incorporated @heckitall ‘s comic page to base it off of, and I’d never tried writing fic for a visual media like that. It was super fun!

On the OTHER end of the spectrum is Case of the Hidden City vs Lou Jitsu because it is VERY technically and narratively complicated and is by far the most ambitious thing I’ve ever written. It’s very hard, but I am VERY proud because I haven’t QUIT it. It’s not complete yet, but it is a good amount of the way there and I’m excited to finish it. Probably once I’ve recovered from surgery lol.

2. This sounds insincere maybe, but I really am happy with the engagement I get on my fic. I really do write my fic for me, and while I love to make sure as many people who want to read it can find it, at the end of the day I don’t like assigning people homework! I went through my whole works list and scratched my head and really tried to think of there was anything I wanted to plug, and I don’t think there is!

I guess I’ll post my lowest viewed, my Swanatello fic! @tangledinink ‘s AU I’m sure everyone’s familiar with lol. I knew that one would be lower when I posted it, if only because it has prior required reading (Swanatello). But I wrote it mainly because the AU was starting to reach a critical point and I REALLY wanted to write fanfiction of how I fantasized an ending might be, so I could go back and read it for comfort. I love Odette and the lore Kayson made for his AU, so I’ll plug this only because I think some people may have missed it!

3. Three works!! JUST THREE?? AUGH.

Not only was it one of the best fics I’ve ever read, but I got the privilege of seeing how talented Rem is behind the scenes a little and saw how they write and work and I really want to emulate them going forward. One of many all timer fics for me, for sure, I’d love to read any original fiction they put out.

The Whispering Forest and Other Tales

By @sroloc--elbisivni and @kithnkin ! I love love LOVE the feudal Japan fusion, the research, and the perfect blend of Usagi Yojimbo’s universe with what the Riseverse would have been like in this era. Even the little segues into what they’re wearing and eating is endlessly fascinating to me. Every single character is written to be the best and most interesting version of that character I could imagine. Theres Leosagi, there’s a PB&J murder mystery, there’s spookiness- AND Raphael Hamato gets wifed up!! WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT? I love people that write a fully fleshed story that could be a standalone universe, without losing ANY of the flavor or humor or narrative of the original source material.

And last is I’m Sorry, Teenage Mutant What Now

@tangledinink has such a good grasp of family and writing, and realistic portrayals of what would HONESTLY HAPPEN if you discovered literally any aspect of the ROTTMNT narrative. Not even taking into ACCOUNT the turtle nonsense, how do you unpack a family that’s been devoted to destroying a magic monster and sacrificing themselves, or a Dad that fought in a death match battle royale for over a decade, or a RIVAL CLAN OF NINJA? All the characters are written SO WELL, and Kayson does a fantastic job of never letting the characters or story fall into cliche tropes. Their characters are always super detailed, to the point where I really feel it if they’re hungry or hurt or itchy. Which is a weird thing to point out but they make sure you really FEEL the situation. Also like, turtles in highschool? Body dysphoria? My CO-CEO of Hamato Yoshi???

What a great year!! I had so much fun in fandom this year and made a lot of friends.

In the Next Life

a trimax vashwood time travel longfic where late trimax vash (aka as late as chapter 94) travels back in time to try to fix things. he's determined to change things, hopes to have a happy ending in this time, but still can't let go of his grief for what he lost in the time before (cough Wolfwood cough). currently a WIP, this is gonna be a Long One, so if ur into longfic this could be for u. just mind the spoilers lol

& i guess i can mention my other Trigun fic that ppl seem to like:

it's complete! started as just a drabble piece to give myself practice with writing these characters. it's a 5 chapter character study for Vash, exploring the ways his inhumanity manifests in each of his senses. it is also very much an autism metaphor done by Yours Truly (someone who clearly has the 'tism) bc i just think autistic Vash is very good. set in tristamp events bc i wrote this before i finished trimax, but has a lot of trimax influence (especially in the last chapter). i'd say it's a tristamp/trimax fusion.

I always see people claim that the genocide of the Metroid paints Samus in a grey light, like she's done something she regrets and the X are the consequences of her mistake. And sure it's an interpretation but... you'd think she would spare some thoughts about this in Fusion if the story truly was going in that direction.

Some time ago I used to see people say that SR and Dread were undermining if not downright glorifying said genocide, in the former case due to the cool parries you can perform on the Metroids and the latter because Quiet Robe presents the idea of blowing up SR388 as a good thing and I'm like...did Super Metroid try to make you feel sorry for the Metroids in Tourian? Or for the Mochtroids?. Did Fusion make you cry for those metroids Bred in that lab?

Metroid is pretty simple with its stories it doesn't delve into moral quandries, if you're gonna critisize do it against the series as a whole not two games that don't match your headcanons.

The greyest part of the Metroid extermination, if you want to consider that, is that Samus wrecked the ecosystem of SR388 and allowed the X to climb at the top of the food chain. Sooooo I guess the moral is, don't fuck with ecosystems.

I don't think Metroid 2 wanted the player to feel bad. It doesn't glorify the mission, per se, but it's more about making you feel tense and alone in this long, grueling mission. And yes, the ending is rather bittersweet, Samus spares a baby, the music is soothing, you climb your way to the surface without obstacles instead of having a cool escape sequence; and yes, SM says that Metroids aren't only destructive so keeping one alive could be worth it (until Ridley intervenes lol). But no, the series itself never really wanted you to pity the Metroids, although you're free to do so.

Unfortunately, the algorithm isn't really shareable. It was made custom for this project and I don't dare touch it nowadays because it's some spaghetti code I wrote years ago lol. It also contains a lot of custom data that only goes up to Gen 7 and contains several errors (that I opted to ignore so I can actually complete this project in my lifetime...).

But! I can at least provide a guide on what I did to at least help push people in the right direction:

Get Data

Nowadays, I recommend PokeAPI for this, they have downloadable CSVs of plenty of data. You can also use any of the many Pokemon fansites out there with data. If you can get it as a list rather than hand entering, that's better as you reduce the risk of human error (like me, I was the human error).

For PBFP, I collected data on stages/forms, types, colors, and body shape.

Modify Data

Your collected data may not be in the best format for your project, so you may need to tweak it.

For example, I converted all my data to numbers, as I found that the easiest and it eliminated ties.

Stages/forms I changed to a list of the number of forms per stage per family. Examples:

Mew's list was [1,0,0] (1 base form, no alt forms or evos)

Mewtwo was [3,0,0] (base+2 Megas)

Pikachu was [1,1,2] (Pichu, Pikachu, 2 Raichu forms)

Wurmple was [1,2,2] (Wurmple has a split evolution)

Flabebe was [5,5,5] (each stage has 5 forms)

Types was the percentage of each type was in a family. For individual forms, single types counted as 1 and dual types counted as 0.5 each. The form types were then added together and averaged for the family's types. Ex.

Mew is 1 Psychic (pure psychic type)

Bulbasaur's family is 0.5 Grass, 0.5 Poison (all grass/poison types)

Mewtwo is ~0.83 Psychic, ~0.16 Fighting (2 pure psychic forms, 1 psychic/fighting form; 2.5 Psychic / 3 forms = 0.8333333333 Psychic; 0.5 Fighting / 3 forms = 0.1666666666 Fighting)

Color was part 1 of custom data. I didn't like the dex colors and was weird to compare as text so I grabbed a single RGB value from every Pokemon form (regret). I picked whatever color I felt like best summed up the Pokemon.

Because families, I averaged the colors of all forms in a family. So Latias for example is more of a magenta, because its base form is red but its Mega form is purple.

Body shape was custom like colors. It was weird to compare as text, so I counted the limbs of every single Pokemon (more regret). The limbs I counted were head, body, arms, legs, tail, wings, and other limbs (like tentacles and fins). For odd cases (Pokemon who have limbs used both as arms and legs) I just did my best guess.

Again, because families, I averaged these values. So you get funny stuff like Tornadus has "1 wing" because Incarnate Tornadus has 0 wings but Therian Tornadus has 2 wings.

Compare Data

Welcome to math time!

Here we're comparing all Pokemon to one another and coming up with a score we can use to determine which ones are the most similar.

For forms, colors, and body shape I used the distance formula. This gave me a "distance" between the two Pokemon families in the potential combination.

Identical families would be a score of 0, more different families would be a larger number.

To then make these scores comparable, I normalized them aka converted them to all to a similar range, in this case a number between 0-1.

I did this by dividing them by the largest score value. Ex. for colors Dewpider and any one of 12 pure white Pokemon were the most different color-wise (a distance of ~384). So all color scores were divided by 384, so Dewpider and any white'mon have a color score of 1 (384/384 = 1).

Types I didn't like the results of the distance formula, so instead I used the percentage of similar types.

Plusle and Minun are both pure electric, so they are 100% similar

Zapdos is Electric/Flying, so Zapdos and Plusle are 50% similar (50% electric shared)

Plusle and Bulbasaur's family share no types, so they are 0% similar

But you might notice now the best type score is 1 while the best distance score is 0. So I inverted the distance scores so a score of 1 = best and a score of 0 = worst. (so for Dewpider and Zangoose's colors, that'd be 384/384 = 1, then 1-1 = 0 color score; while Plusle and Minun would be 0/384 = 0, then 1-0 = 1 color score).

Then I averaged those 4 scores together to get one final score that is a number between 0-1, where again 1=best and 0=worst.

Verify Data

I mentioned this a few times through, but you may need to tweak your data or formula to get the results looking nice.

Originally I had stages and forms as different data points, but didn't like the results I was getting. After combining them, I liked those results better.

Sawk/Throh's colors were originally blue/red. But I expected those two to pair up so I switched them to their white color.

Outliers, numbers that are outside of the normal range of the rest of the data, also presented an issue. I added upper limits to certain data to make the results nicer. I think I set those to 5 for forms and limbs. Ex. Arceus was counted as only having 5 forms, Vulpix's family had 5 tails, etc.

Get Pairs

The part where we actually get the fusions!

After you do the compare data step for every possible Pokemon combination (I highly recommend automating this as much as you can, spreadsheet software like Excel or Google Sheets can do a lot of this math for you in bulk) then you should have a list of every possible combination of Pokemon and a score for that combination.

How you go about this next part depends on your goal. Do you want Pokemon to only be used once? Do you want to pick by the best pair first?

Answering yes to each of those questions is what I did, but imagine the chaos of answering no to both?

So what I did was:

Find the highest score (for best score first)

Record that pair in the finalized list

Remove any other combinations that use one of those two Pokemon (each Pokemon is only used one)

Repeat steps 1-3 until you have no pairs left

And that's it!

(I say like this isn't a huge amount of time or effort, it is, it really is)

Again, sorry my script/algorithm isn't something easily shared, but I hope this write up at least helps push people in the right direction!

12:38am: well, talk about gratuitous grace… I'm doing it again, half a week later - twelve r30s this time, I'm being "moderate" cause I'm not going for a new record dose, just another demi-god trip, where I will probably feel like god again, but a lonely god still rubbing up against His own Grain, the infinite cosmos of limitations based on this little personality I am most of the time, like those weaponized changeling virii that cut off their hand to morph into sentient goo that projects itself as an angry voice that wants, that controls, that demands.

well, well, well well well well well well, there's 5 wells in this instance going back to the well well there's an eleven angstrom shell of heaven between the living void and hell well, look what we have here i guess i'm really trying to re-live the glory days, and yet have high high hopes for making something new as well… dosed about 12:35 - the idea was, don't worry about it so damn much, how bout a spontaneous trip with good vibes, a gratuitous grace, at a point where no reasonable algorithm would dare think i would even consider doing this on this date, considering past behavior - or maybe the cleverest algo behind the clever one would

Episode 1: The Monstering

Deena is human and lives as a human, yes. she loves monsters, cool. and hey we get human characters. also, she has her purple hair; it’s cosmetic not genetic like the movie made it seem to be (which was dumb) momma Wolf is MIA? ok, that’s more explanation than the movie gave. oh we already have a musical number...uh...

ok theory time; i think the series gang and the movie gang were given the same basic “hit these bullet points” for what to do, that’s why they are independent but kinda clearly just repeating each other slightly.

well over all, that was not a bad start to a series, i will give you that. again, it feels like it expects you to walk in with familiarity to all the characters, so it’s not setting up characters but just the new status quo. so that’s...disappointing. BUT it’s only e1

how can you have the frontal lobe from a poltergeist? they’re not physical in nature...did you get their brain from their body BEFORE they were a poltergeist? spectral species can die and leave remains??

Frankie...i feel if your parts are that easily removeable, your joints should be far less tight. and you know, you shouldn’t be filled with blood and gooey bits if parts can fall off and break seals that easily...i’m just not supposed to think about that am i?

so for e2...it feels so short. idk, i know it was the full 22 min, but it just felt like we had the same amount if content as a 5 min webisode? again we’re starting off. e1 was world intro and Deena, e2a was Ula, e2b was Frankie. our lessons have been “believe in yourself”, “don’t self hate yourself”, and “everyone makes mistakes”. all fair enough...and all these points were hit in the movie...huh...

anyways, despite feeling super short it was a fun enough watch i guess. i’ll keep up with it. the animation is looking good and i do like it much more than the g1 or g2 cgi models.

INDY POP CON @ HOME - Saturday Stream Over!

Do you think that Shigaraki is going to be out of commission until we get to that part where Shigaraki and AFO are forced apart and giving Deku a moment to reach out to him. I wonder then we finally see what's going on in his mind.

Nah I don’t think he’ll be out of commission.

In fact I think he’s about to be at a point where he can move about and do a lot more damage before Midoriya can get to him. His body is going haywire right now too, and I think once he overcomes the singularity or whatever, that’s when he’ll be back in action to cause more destruction until Deku catches up to him.

The last time I thought he’d be out of commission due to the possession, chapter 329 happened, and then so forth leading us up to now.

The thing is, the possession went from being a full on take over (which is what I thought was gonna happen—causing him to be out of commission) to being a weird fusion of their consciousnesses (🤢) and it’s turned into a mental battle between the two that Shigaraki is definitely on the losing end of.

His pupil being gone here shows that he’s not faring well in this fight:

I’m guessing that we’re going to see Shigaraki’s inner world being a complete distorted mess. I think he’s gonna be confused, pissed off, irritated, all of it. I’m personally predicting another dream scape scene like from chapter 270, except focusing on the more recent events in his life instead of his family. Like, his feelings on everything that’s happened up until now. Feelings on Deku (followed up on in the next paragraph). Maybe even see him see Twice in that dream scape, maybe. And finally get a reaction on that front. Since he isn’t being given a chance to react to it outside.

Idk how it’ll look, but I think we’ll get something like that again where he reflects on different things this time, because there is a lot of anger in his heart right now, but there’s a part of him that’s clinging onto the idea that he can still be reached and saved:

I think we’re definitely gonna see Shigaraki getting worse in the sense that he loses himself more and more to AFO’s will, all while fighting, and maybe even during his fight with Midoriya. I think he’ll continue losing the mental battle until Midoriya is able to give Shigaraki that push he needs to break himself free from AFO and then dust his ass. Idk if those things will all happen one right after the other, or if there will be time in between, but that’s what I think is gonna happen for now.

There is a lot of inner exploration left to be done with Shigaraki right now. Way too much for him to be sidelined until the end. So no I definitely do not think Shigaraki is gonna be out of commission until the end.

Also—I think Hori likes drawing Shigaraki way too much to leave him out until the end lol. Seriously.

Different Stages

She had met him more by accident when she had just finished a job. She was tucking her rifle away when she heard a constant thudding. It reminded her of the T-rex arrival in Jurassic Park. She kept her gun out as he arrived. She had seen the papers and he was the infamous Doctor Octopus as they had labeled him. Two mechanical arms were on the ground while the other two hung around his shoulders protectively.

“Are you going to shoot me?” He asked curiously.

“No, I don’t kill people for free.” She shrugged, lowering the rifle. He took off his sunglasses to look at her.

“You don’t look like an assassin.” He said.

“I know Doctor. That’s why I do it.” She smiled. An eyebrow arched curiously at her comment. “So just passing through?” She asked.

“Actually yes.”

“Well Doctor I won’t keep you. Have a nice day.” She said before leaving.

“Yes that was weird.” Otto said to the arms. There a few more encounters like that until he finally got her one quiet night.

“Are you stalking me Doctor?” She teased.

“Call me Otto.” He answered. “And…yes I supposed I am because I would like to know your name.”

“Call me Evee.” She answered.

“Like the Pokémon?” He asked surprised.

“Oh nice…you’re a bigger nerd than I thought.” She smirked.

“I’ve got a lot more time on my hands.” He shrugged.

“My full name is Evelyn, but I prefer Evee since I always have to change my look at times for a job.” She said, showing a wig. Her hair was short but had some dark orange highlights in it.

“Why the orange?”

“Fall is my favorite season.”

“It’s September.”

“What? Don’t tell me you’re a Christmas person?” She huffed.

“No I prefer summer.” He stated.

“Hey if they can do fucking Christmas in July and have Christmas trees out at the end of September then I sure as hell can do my Halloween at the start of August.” She said defensively. Otto let out a genuine good belly laugh.

“Fair enough. That’s true.” He chuckled as he walked closer to her on his own legs.

“Why the sunglasses?”

“My eyes were damaged in an accident.”

“Oh that failed energy fusion thing?” She asked.

“Yes.” He nodded quietly. He noticed her eyes were an interesting shade of green. The arms stared at her curiously as well. One inched up to her and she held out her hand. It nudged it and she traced her fingertips along the metal.

“Are they alive?” She asked.

“In a sense yes, artificial intelligence.” He explained. “They’re surprised you’re not scared of them.” He added.

“I’ve seen people do a lot worse.” She shrugged.

“Is this your style, hanging on roof tops and shooting people?”

“It’s the most effective method.” She answered. “And I’m quite good at it.” She winked. “Can they come off?” She asked pointing to the arms.

“No.” He turned around and showed her the outer spinal column that had been fused into his spine. “That happened during the accident too.” He said before he turned around.

“Ouch, I’m sorry.” She said with sympathy, but he only shrugged.

“I can do a lot more now.” He said. “So Evee, do you live in the city?” He asked.

“Why ? You want a date?” She teased. He actually blushed.

“No, I just wanted to ask since we keep running into each other.” He said quickly.

“Well yes I do.” She smirked. She took out a notepad and wrote something on it. She walked over and put it in his coat pocket. “If you ever want to drop by.” She winked before she left.

The October chill was starting to come and things were getting wet with the rain as well. Evee had finished another job and she started to walk home. Her rifle concealed in it’s long back pack. She stopped and sniffed the air. “Mmmm…rain is coming.” She said. She also noticed the smell of bad after shave as she started walking again. She knew she was being followed as the rain started to fall. She walked down a few back alleys she knew and tucked her rifle in a corner she knew wouldn’t be disturbed. She walked calmly as her other two guns hung on her hips under her long jacket. It wasn’t long before she heard footsteps. She wouldn’t be surprised if more people pooped out so she had to keep her eyes open.

“Fuck it.” She whispered to herself. She spun around with her guns and started shooting. She took out two before more men charged at her from the sides. She ducked and spun around one guy, using him as a shield as his companions still fired and killed him. Evee got off a few more shots before she was punched at from behind. She growled as she grabbed his arms and elbowed him right in the face and broke his nose. He shouted in pain as she shot him in the head. Evee shouted when one man plunged a knife deep in her hip and dragged it to make her bleed.

“Fucker!” She shouted and punched him right in the throat. He started gasping for breath as she shot him. A few more shots and the group was finally down, leaving her breathing hard. “Fuck!” She gritted as she stared at the infernal knife. She couldn’t take it out until she got to her apartment because that’s where her medical kit was. She was limping badly as she made her way back home and finally closed the door behind her. She stumbled into her bedroom and yanked the comforter off. It wasn’t the first time she had nights like this and it made her invest in black bed sheets to help deal with the blood. She got into a tang top and cut her pants off before grabbing the medical kit.

“What happened?” Someone spoke. Evee grabbed the knife at her nightstand and threw it. It was easily knocked out of the way by one of the arms.

“Otto…fuck…sorry…act first…think later.” She sighed.

“No hard feelings.” He said as he came over to her. “What happened?” He asked again.

“Got jumped by a few pros. They didn’t make it.” She smiled.

“Is this normal for you?” He asked.

“Happens at least once a year. People do it to cover their tracks or just want to get rid of the completion.” She shrugged. He couldn’t believe she was so casual about the whole thing, not to mention the knife still in her. “You wouldn’t happen to be a medical doctor too?” She asked with a smirk.

“I have picked up a few more medical skills. Could I tell you if you hit a vein? No. Could I stitch that up if you asked me…yes.” He stated.

“Thank you.” She sighed. He took his coat and gloves off, along with his sunglasses and rolled up his sleeves. “I’m not going to talk you through it.” She said.

“I don’t need you too.” He replied.

“Good, because I’m taking a shot of morphine.” She said as she dug through the bag.

“You’ve got morphine in there?” He gasped.

“Yeah, never leave home without it.” She grinned.

“Easy.” He said taking her hand. She looked at him and for the first time since they fight was she able to finally catch her breath. “You don’t have to be so brave when you’re with me.” He said gently.

“Thank you Otto.” She rasped quietly. After a few moments he helped her take her shot and laid her down on the bed. “Next time we have to have dinner first.” She mumbled before she fell asleep.

She woke up with a hiss of throbbing pain in her leg. She looked down and saw a blanket on her. She pulled it off a bit and saw her wound all bandaged up. She looked at it puzzled for a moment as she started to remember last night.

“Thank you Otto.” She sighed.

“You’re welcome.” He answered as he came into the room. She looked up to see him holding a plate of breakfast for her. While one the arms held a gall of orange juice for her.

“Awww.” She smiled weakly as he came over to her. “Hey can you hand me that aspirin bottle please?” She said pointing. Another arm handed it to her and she couldn’t help but giggle. “They’re so cute once you get used to them.” She said.

“They say thank you.” He said. She took her pills and started eating.

“Thank you for your help last night Otto.” She said quietly.

“You’re welcome Evee.” He smiled.

“Can you…can you stay with me for a little bit…please?” She asked almost like a frightened child.

“Of course.” He nods and sits next to her. After she finished her food she snuggles up to him and he doesn’t question it.

“Did you eat already?” She mumbled.

“Yes. Your apartment is very nice. I’m guessing you own it?”

“Yup.” He started rubbing her back and she hummed softly. The aspirin helped with her throbbing leg. She felt warm and safe in his arms. She couldn’t help but cling to him a bit more tightly.

“Are you ok? You’re tense.” Otto said.

“I can’t remember the last time I felt safe with someone.” She answered honestly. She looks up at him again as he gazes at her. “I know that probably sounds weird coming from me right?” She laughed weakly.

“No.” He said shaking his head. “I’m glad you feel safe with me.” He smiles. She leans in a little closer and so does he. She’s hesitant to go further, but he does it for her. He gently kisses her and she eagerly responds to his touch. She moans softly against his mouth as he lays her back down while his hands cup her face. When he finally pulls away her vision is blurry as she tries to catch her breath. “Evee what’s wrong? You’re crying. Did I hurt you?” He asks concerned.

“N-no.” She says, surprised that’s she’s crying. “It’s just…it’s been a while since I’ve felt a connection with someone.” She admits.

“I understand.” He nods. “I lost my wife, Rosie, in the accident. I thought it was all over…but they…talked to me.” He said pointing to the arms. “And then I kept running into this assassin who named herself after a Pokémon.” He laughed. She couldn’t help but join in.

“I hope I get to meet her sometime.” Evee teased. Otto leaned into her again and gave her another tender kiss.

“Can I stay here for a little bit…please?” Otto whispered. She could hear the pleading in his voice.

“Of course you can.” She smiled. Otto pulled her back into his embrace gently. The arms wrapped around Evee carefully and protectively. She felt him kiss the top of her head before she fell back to sleep to the hum of the metal and the beating of his strong heart.

Kyouya against destiny

The Tategami Monogatari is a little story drawn by Takafumi Adachi featuring Kyouya and his father. It's the moment Kyouya prove he's worthy of inheriting the TC.

Since the characters appearing in this story, and Kyouya's clothes, it may happens between Beyblade Metal Masters and Beyblade Metal Fury.

I think it explains some of Kyouya's behavioral changes during Beyblade Metal Fury. His future (and adulthood) becomes suddenly clearer and closer. He wanted to travel to beat the legendary bladers (before challenging Ginga) to have fun and everyone spent their time talking about a quest to save the world (which seems quite important... except when you are Kyouya Tategami and you don't feel like it's your responsability). Until then, it doesn't bother him. Kyouya lets them talk about their great quest while he follows his own idea.

Then Aguma says he belongs to a group (which Kyouya doesn't want to), Wild Fang try to help him...

...and not enough time later Dynamis talks about destiny (in fact, all of this happens the same day).

This is the moment where everything goes wrong.

Kyouya is the next TC's CEO. Right now is the moment he wants to be a blader, especially Ginga's rival. He doesn't want to think about anything like responsabilities and other obligations (or destiny, or whatever). He doesn't mind helping Ginga and the others. He did it several times (against the Dark Nebula, the Spiral Energy and the Atlantis). Even during the beginning of the legendary bladers quest : he has the idea to train, guess how they can find Aguma and Bao, etc. In fact, even after Aguma annoyed him by pointing out he isn't acting like a lone lion, Kyouya still couldn't help but help the gang...

...with relative success XD

Helping isn't the problem. If it was only Aguma or Dynamis words, Kyouya would have been able to get over it (after much pouting and grumbling, of course). In fact, he almost got over it when he thought he would battle Dynamis.

But both of them ? With Aguma coming back and showing him the flaws in his speeches (which everyone, except Yuu, politely pretend to not see) ?

It was too much.

Kyouya joined the gang in this travel only to have great battles. He was here to have fun. He said, since the beginning of the quest, fighting the “great evil” and saving the world weren’t his problem.

But Aguma argued to undo his beloved image of a lone lion. Even worse, he only used logical arguments.

And then, something (destiny) tries to get the control of his present life, this time he's supposed to be as free as he wants to be.

I think that's why the scenarists went to the whole "okay, I have to accept my destiny" reasonning. Kyouya never had anything against helping Ginga, he did it since Metal Fusion episode 11. Please. In episode 123, even when he was pouting because he wasn't treated the way he thinks he should be (with tremendous respect, lol) he comes back to support Ginga.

His situation and his age shouldn’t be forgotten.

He leaving the gang was just some teenage rebellion.

He was torn between too many things : being a “lone lion” (he loves this image), helping Ginga and the gang, having fun with Beybattles, spending time with his friends (the Wild Fang, of course), doing everything his own way, doing what felt right, obeying destiny and taking up responsabillities...

And, deep down, Kyouya knew he was wrong.

Please, when else did we see Kyouya looking away because he’s unable to look somebody (and not anybody : Ginga ! his rival) in the face ?
