The Mad Hatters React to Being Trapped by a Sleepy Reader

Arkhamverse Mad Hatter:

- Jervis is startled at first.

- His first instinct is to detach himself from whatever has him captured.

- However when he sees that he’s wrapped up in your arms–he’s surprised.

- If it were anyone else, Jervis would have rolled his eyes and shrugged the arms away.

- But, it was you…his sweet dormouse.

- While he did find your sleepiness troublesome, he can’t help but find it endearing.

- Especially in this moment, where you were so deep in slumber, you reached out to him and nestled yourself into his side.

- After very little debating, Jervis decides to get comfortable alongside you. A small smile forming on his face that mirrored yours.

BTAS Mad Hatter:

- Jervis usually tries to stay prepared for all your sleeping needs.

- Such as blankets, pillows, or plushies.

- Yet sometimes, like anyone else, he just forgets.

- He never expected you to lean on him one day, however.

- Jervis is instantly a blushing red mess.

- He tries to look around for one of your usual items–to no avail.

- He sighs in defeat, but he relishes in the sweet proximity.

- Jervis will rest his head on top of yours, after pressing a gentle kiss to your temple.

TNBA Mad Hatter:

- Wee mad lad is the perfect pillow size.

- Jervis is taken aback at first.

- He’s relieved to see it’s just you that’s got him captured.

- At first, Jervis tries to wiggle and squirm out of your arms–but failed.

- You just end up nuzzling closer into his side, a sleepy content smile on your face.

- The soft look on your face causes Jervis to pause his squirming.

- You truly looked really adorable when you were sleeping, he realized.

- Jervis eventually warms up to the idea of being a human pillow, but only for you, and in private.

Harley Quinn:TAS Mad Hatter:

- He rolls his eyes.

- Unlike a couple other Jervi, he's totally used to this.

- And he pretends to be annoyed.

- Jervis will gently try to shake you or pat you, something to get you to wake up.

- When deep down he actually loves it.

- He loves the warmth of your arms.

- He loves how you cling to him, and how your grip gets stronger if he even remotely tries to get away.

- Jervis ensures that whenever you fall asleep, he'll always be within your arms reach.

Joker’s Asylum Mad Hatter:

- Jervis is stunned at first.

- His heart pounds at the tight embrace.

- The beats get faster when he realizes its you.

- Well, this is quite the predicament.

- He's unsure what to make of it, but he can't say he's uncomfortable.

- You are so peaceful and warm.

- Jervis can easily see why you find it incredibly helpful to sleep with something…

- Perhaps he can talk you into taking naps with him like this from now on.

Secret Six Mad Hatter:

- Jervis literally won't allow you to sleep with anything else but him.

- The only exceptions being your childhood plush that always helped you sleep or a hat he's made for you.

- Like HQ:TAS, he always makes himself within your arms reach, so you can latch onto him.

- He just finds you so incredibly adorable.

- You also make the perfect model for all his little hats he manages to make whilst in your capture.

- Jervis also likes the idea of being the last one you see when you doze off and being the first one you see when you wake up.

- He likes to stick close to you, to protect you while you sleep.

- Jervis just loves to be able to make his dormouse comfortable as they sleep away.

a/n: not gonna lie a few of the wee lads may panic along side you lmao, but it’s the effort and participation that counts

Content Warning: mentions and small details of symptoms of a panic attack

The Mad Hatters React to Reader Having a Panic Attack

Arkhamverse Mad Hatter:

Likely gets just as flustered as you are.

He's stuttering and sputtering over his words.

But he's there with you throughout it.

Jervis does try to shush your cries and comfort you with words.

He knows all too much what it's like to be like this, but it's rare for him to see it happen to someone else.

He won't leave your side though.

You won't suffer alone with it like he has had to do.

BTAS Mad Hatter:

Jervis goes into instant comfort mode.

He tries to walk you through your breathing exercises.

If you're comfortable with it he'll even offer to hold and squeeze your hand.

His soft warm voice helps calm your brain.

The way he reassures you, softly smiles at you…

Even though he's hurting on the inside seeing you suffer, he hopes his smile gives you comfort.

You eventually do get to calm down, and you're always grateful for him to help you through it.

TNBA Mad Hatter:

Jervis is automatically concerned.

And he is immediately by your side.

Like BTAS, he's on top of trying to get your heart to slow down.

He will try to get your breathing to match his own.

Jervis will attempt to ground you by asking you what you see around you.

If it’s what you want, he will try and help you sit down or lay down if you’re standing up.

Jervis won't keep you out of his sight likely for the rest of the day, just to ensure you're all right.

Gotham Mad Hatter:

Jervis almost notices the attack coming before you do.

He will inquire if you're okay when he observes how quiet you've gotten.

His hand immediately covers the one you have on your chest as your chest starts to tighten in pain.

If that's too much for you, he will opt to have a hand on your shoulder and squeeze it.

Whatever he can to try and center you and bring you down from your panicked state.

Harley Quinn: The Animated Series Mad Hatter:

Jervis is unsure how to help or what to do.

Normally, he'd take delight in someone's mental distraught.

However, when it’s you, he's dead in the water.

He sees you start trembling and breaking out in a sweat…

And he's going whatever he can to not also break out in a sweat.

Jervis isn't the best at it at first, but after some talks about what helps you and what he can do.

He's definitely prepared and ready to be there for you when need be.

Joker’s Asylum Mad Hatter:

Like Arkhamverse, he's likely panicking right there with you.

He’s simultaneously calming himself, and he hopes it can calm you in tandem.

Jervis will speak to you more quietly and more gently than before.

He will offer to make you a warm cup of tea

He knows what it's like to be riddled with panic and being overwhelmed.

Jervis is just glad to be able to at least be there to comfort you.

Secret Six Mad Hatter:

Drugs?

I mean…that always helped him. Maybe it'll help you?

Ok…how about a hat? Here, it'll take your mind off of what's making you panic.

Oh well, at least the hat idea made you chuckle some.

Jervis will try and ground you by having you focus on him and his voice.

If you're comfortable, he'll hold your hand and squeeze it to the time of his breathing.

While he has his suggestions, he’ll do whatever you need him to help you through your panic attack.

The Mad Hatters with a Dormouse Type Reader

Arkhamverse Mad Hatter:

Albeit you always falling asleep can be…tiring on its own.

(he does get aggravated sometimes but never shows you directly)

He does appreciate your loyalty.

At least you're always there for him…physically.

You always manage to be a small voice of reason for him

Even when he doesn't realize it

Oftentimes he may take credit for your comments for his own.

Jervis shows his appreciation by always including you, no matter where or what.

Whether you're listening or not, he's just glad to finally have a companion.

BTAS Mad Hatter:

Jervis finds you absolutely adorable.

Even though your sleeping habits are a bit cumbersome…

He's pleased to find that you actually pay more attention when you’re asleep than those who do when they are wide awake.

Which makes you incredibly helpful, he’s always amazed at the amount you recall.

You also know just when to be alert and awake, but of course, he knows that comes with a quick crash later.

As your relationship develops, he does go an extra length to ensure you’re comfortable

Don’t ask where the pillows and blankets come from, he just HAS them on standby somehow.

(also no he totally didn’t kiss the top of your head, that was absolutely a ~dream~)

TNBA Mad Hatter:

Like other Jervi, he’s at first annoyed with your relentless napping.

However, he can’t deny you’re incredibly insightful for someone who normally snoozes away most of the time.

Whenever he thinks allowed while tinkering at something, you’ll mumble something he hadn’t considered.

(kind of like Arkham, he’ll likely take the credit sometimes)

I will say out of the three rogues I've done of this (including this one as the third) I've never been more imperative that you don't pull this kinda thing on them...just...10/10 DON'T recommend folks.

Reader Ignores The Mad Hatters' Affections

Arkhamverse Mad Hatter:

You just must be distracted.

Time and time again, you’ve always reciprocated his affection in your own way.

For you to cease them completely…is strange.

He asks if he did something wrong or if someone upset you.

You shrug it off and say no.

This further confuses and upsets Jervis.

You notice his brain starting to turn and turn out of control.

You get it to stop by kissing his cheek, and immediately apologizing.

Jervis takes a sigh of relief when you explain you were just curious, but please..

Like BTAS, he’s practically concerned from the get-go.

Jervis is wracking his brain on what he may have done wrong.

When you say it’s not him, you’re just not feeling it…

You didn’t truly realize the impact of your excuse until you saw how Jervis’ face fell.

Likely checks to make sure it’s not his hygiene causing your apprehension.

Jervis is almost hysterically elated when you explain it was just a joke. He’s jumping up and down, ecstatic to have you back.

Yeah, he’s in full panic mode.

He’s messed up somehow…he was so sure he would!

He always does! He can never have anything good for too long!

Out of all the Jervi, highly suggest you do NOT do this to this one.

Before you know it, he’s grabbing his hat and making tea, he’s spiraling.

It takes all your strength and might to break through to him.

Hold him, kiss him, reassure him, and promise him that you will never deny him affection ever again.

Secret Six Mad Hatter:

Well, that’s just rude.

You know you’re lucky he’s even paying attention to you.

Besides you don’t always wear a hat, yet he always makes sure to acknowledge you.

You ignore him the first few times, and he’s quick to ignore you too.

However, he doesn’t hide the fact well, that he’s really hurt by it.

After years of thinking he’s finally found a partner and you decide to be reserved for some odd reason or another.

Realizing how far out of control this went, you were quick to set the record straight.

Jervis at first didn’t want to give you the time of day, why should he? You hurt his feelings!

Yet, he is curious…

When you tell him it was just to see how he’d respond, he’s rather clueless.

What kind of cruel joke was that? Absolutely maddening you can be sometimes.

Something just seemed off, like that part in the horror movie where things are unsettlingly quiet and calm.

You fidgeted with the keys on your keyring, anything to delay you actually entering your home.

You tried pushing through your wracked nerves; you were stressed, tired…paranoid. Just go in, take a shower, make another late dinner…

Definitely not get jumped by dudes in rabbit masks.

Which is what happened when you opened the door, there were a handful of them just lounging in your living room before they heard you open the door.

They jumped up from their spots and darted towards you. You grabbed one of the rabbit heads by the ears and barrelled them towards the others. While they tried to regain their footing you snatched up the Louisville slugger you had by the door. Yeah it’s overrated but it got the job done.

After subduing the men, some unconscious, a few possibly dead…You looked around at the carnage. Your living room is a bloodied and bruised mess. Lamps, tables were broken. Your wooden floors were being caked with blood.

Now lies the question as to what the hell was going on–

You felt a slight pressure on your head, like a hat being placed and everything goes dark.

“Now, now, don’t struggle…you’re safe now!”

You had to blink a couple times as you tried to get your bearings. You gasped as you felt the lack of mobility of your arms and legs. You were tightly confined to a wooden chair.

“Oh, I’m so sorry, this-this isn’t how this was supposed to go!”

A short scrunkly looking fellow with a long nose, spikey red hair, and prominent buck teeth came out. He looked like he jumped out of a children’s book…like someone from Wonderland…

“The Mad Hatter?” You quirked an inquisitive eyebrow.

He giggled gleefully. “Oh, so you do know me?”

You shrugged. “Ah…well not by choice…but that explains the rabbit men in my home.”

“Ah yes, I must admit my dear, I was not…not expecting such…resistance from you.”

Your jaw almost dropped. “Are you fucking kidding me? There were men I’ve never met before in my own home–”

Hatter gasped. "Such language! You don't have to be so crude about it!"

Is…is he for real?

He continued. "But, yes, I can understand a means of self defense, but I only wanted them to bring you to me! Bah-just goes to show if you want something done right you must do it yourself!”

Hatter walked closer towards you, with you sitting you were able to see him eye to eye as he stood at your side. As your mind started to clear you noticed you were in front of a round table…that looks set up for a tea party.

“Wait, wait, wait…you wanted them to bring me to you? Why?” You tried shimmying away on the chair from Hatter but he put a hand on the back of your chair, hindering your escape.

"Oh, yes, why, why indeed..well you see, it's simple really! I'm absolutely enamored with you!" He shrilled gleefully.

"What? You-you don't even know me!"

"Ah but that's where you're wrong! I know everything about you!" He took a step away from you and rounded to the other side of the table and took a seat on the opposite side of you.

He took a generous sip from his teacup.

You shivered slightly as you recalled all those times you felt someone watching you, but brushed it off as paranoia.

However a funny thought happened in your head. "Yet, you didn't know I took self defense classes?"

The Hatter nervously murmured "Ah, mm…yes a mere oversight on my part…"

"Listen…Mr..uhh..mm…Hatter I-"

"Oh please do call me Jervis, Jervis Tetch at your service!" He walked back towards you again.

"Okay…Jervis. Um, not that this hasn't been…uhh an experience. I really don't think–"

"Its okay, you may not see it now, your affection for me. But you will soon enough!"

He began walking away again, not before dragging his long pinky nail along your shoulder.

You shuddered slightly at the sensation. "Wait! Wait no-can..can we work something out? Where I don't have to wear the hat?"

Jervis held the unconventional western hat in hand. "Bold of you to assume you had an option in the matter."

“I mean like…wouldn’t you like to get to know each other..? Or at least let me get to know you?” You offered.

Jervis put the hat down on the table as he pondered. “You…want to get to know me?”

“Sure! Of course! But I can't do that with your..eh…contraption on.”

“And how do I know this isn’t a trick?” He sneered.

“Well,” you cocked your head in thought. “I mean…I wouldn’t mind getting to know you, you are kind of cute..” You muttered, not even sure where that came from…but it wasn’t necessarily a lie.

Whatever it was, it worked, as Jevis gasped in shock. “Really?”

Well, you can’t take it back now. “Uh…yes..”

Jervis chuckled giddily as he went and untied your binds. You brought your hands up to you and began soothing your wrists.

“Ohh…this is perfect! Despite the slight hiccup this is already going better than planned!”

“And! I know just the position to put you in!”

“Excuse me?”

“Oh, come on, that wasn’t even slightly suggestive!”

“Yeah…yeah it was. What posit-role! Role did you have in mind?”

“Why, with your fighting prowess and defense skills…a bodyguard of course!”

So, you began your life as a part time bodyguard for the Mad Hatter. Little did you know that at the beginning Jervis was right. You’d see your affections for him after all.

a/n: asdfg yes, yes, yes I’m so here for this! Will likely do a dormouse reader in another post in the future especially if there's a mighty need from others lol. I couldn’t really come up with an idea for a drabble, so I decided to just go with headcanons and to just go ahead do all the Mad Hatters hehe Hope you enjoy anon!

The Mad Hatters with a Queen of Hearts-Type Reader

Arkhamverse Mad Hatter:

- Jervis admires you.

- He has to get respect and attention the hard way, it’s fun, but far more difficult than it has to be.

- Not you though, you walk into a room and everyone shakes in their boots.

- They know not to mess with you, to respect you (and Jervis doesn’t have to threaten them).

- Jervis especially appreciates how protective you are of him.

- The only person that gets to see your softer sweet side is him.

- And boy, does it make him feel incredibly special.

- You're his queen of hearts and he's your mad hatter king (it's all nonsense anyway)

BTAS Mad Hatter:

- Jervis is slightly intimidated.

- He prays for the poor souls that ever have to come face to face with your wrath.

- But he does manage to charm you and you allure him.

- You will be a very powerful ally to have and vice versa.

- Soon you two are unstoppable.

- Jervis appreciates your loyalty and your tenacity.

- He has never met anyone so fierce and determined.

- He is forever grateful to have you by his side.

TNBA Mad Hatter:

- Much like his BTAS counterpart, he’s intimidated.

- Unsure what to make of such a strong minded individual.

- He is mesmerized by you however.

- Jervis is used to being behind the scenes…quite comfortable with it until the end.

- But seeing you command a room and take charge…it's captivating to the scientist.

- He's pleasantly surprised when he finds how fond you are of him.

- Jervis still gets nervous when you yell or scream.

- But he does take pride in knowing he is one of the few to calm you down.

Gotham Mad Hatter:

- Jervis is enamored with you.

- Your fire, your rage, your destruction…

- It's something he's always felt but to see it in someone else…

- It's incredible, it makes his heart race.

- You two will paint the town red.

- Gotham will fall to its knees for you two.

- And no one would stand in your way.

- Yes, off with their heads, indeed!

Harley Quinn: TAS Mad Hatter:

- Jervis will pretend he's not impressed with you.

- But in reality he's actually shaking like a leaf.

- However, you do amaze him with just how violent you are.

- Jervis enjoys watching you fight to protect him and your plans.

- It makes him chuckle with glee to see you take down multiple adversaries.

- He has no problem helping you clean blood off your pretty face.

- Jervis relishes in the fact you've only got a soft spot for him.

- You two are a force to be reckoned with.

Joker’s Asylum Mad Hatter:

- Jervis is mortified at first.

- The Queen of Hearts is a blind fury.

- He already experiences enough anger and aggression in his life.

- Surely he wants no more of it.

- He also admires your strength and tenacity.

- He’s perplexed when he sees you aim your fury towards those that wronged him.

- You protect him? Y-You care about him?

- Perhaps your fury isn’t all that blind after all.

Secret Six Mad Hatter:

- I just have an inkling he gets a rise out of seeing you get angry.

- Jervis loves to see how red your face can get, how loud you can scream…

- And yes, he’s still referring to when you're angry.

- He enjoys it because he knows that he can quickly simmer your temper.

- Or better yet, you’ll punish him later for making you get upset.

- Either way leaves Jervis snickering to himself

- You can be short and cruel, it's true.

- But Jervis can see the passion and that will always captivate him back to you.

How the Mad Hatters Handle NNN

Okay, but yes, you’re absolutely correct. I don’t see many of the Jervi ranking any higher than like a 5.5 rip Sorry not sorry, the mad man’s mad needy and won’t let a silly month challenge stop him. No matter how amusing he finds the name or concept to be.

Arkhamverse Mad Hatter (2 out of 10):

So, I don’t know if it’s his obvious deteriorating grip on reality or just how scatter-brained this Jervis is, but a part of me feels like he wakes up in a brand new “Wonderland” every day. Not that he forgets important names, faces, or events…but like whatever doesn’t impact him he doesn’t care to carry over with him the next day.

Hence why I think he’d lose fairly quickly. Not only is he absolutely obsessed with your touch, but your touch ultimately gets him fired up almost like clockwork. The only reason he’s at a 2 and not a 1 or 0 is because you sometimes remind him of this “game” of yours, until like day 3.

By that point, it’s no longer fun for Jervis, he wants to feel good. Not to mention feel good with you. What kinda game would be worth winning that’d be better than that?

BTAS Mad Hatter (5 out of 10):

Ah, this lad he actually gives it the old college try.

He finds it fun and invigorating at first. He’s genuinely curious of his own capacity to restrict something as natural as desire.

Spoiler Alert: it’s a rather minuscule capacity.

He kept help himself, perhaps if he didn’t have someone constantly turning him on he’d win with flying colors. However, you’re just so beautiful, compelling, sweet, and irresistible.

Jervis admits in hindsight how foolish it really was to trick himself into thinking he can deprive himself of something that life itself has stolen from him for too long. Mutual desire, attraction, and intimacy.

He caves to a fantasy of you whilst you were out, with every intention of making it a reality once you got back.

TNBA Mad Hatter (2 out of 10):

Oh, a game you say? A challenge? Oh boy what fun! What does it entail?

What? What do you mean he can’t–you mean not even himself? Well, he can definitely see the challenging aspect of it, but what’s the reward? What’re the stakes? He gets to finally…ehh have his comeuppance?

Why the hell wait a month for something he could have when it pleased him? It’s more rewarding? Well he supposes…

Nah, he may try it for a day or two but he is way too greedy and enjoys the sensation far too much to give it up, even for just thirty days.

Gotham Mad Hatter (4.5 out of 10):

Jervis is intrigued and is fully on board, however…I wouldn’t put it past him to be a wee cheat. Don’t be surprised if you find a few minutes or so gone from your memory. Even though you could have sworn you saw Jervis…ohh damn him!

He tries to hypnotize you again, when he feels another strong urge coming on (it’s not his fault, you’re such a damn tease without realizing it) but you have stolen his watch and are wearing glasses dark enough that you can barely make out his face.

Jervis can’t help but chuckle at your cleverness in catching up to his tricks. The reason his number is close to the halfway point; is because by the time he admits defeat it’s three weeks into the month. He pleads for your forgiveness, that he’ll try again next year, honestly, but he just wanted to make the game more fun is all.

You tell him he’ll have to make it up to you for being a dirty cheat. He grinned as he already had a couple of ideas up his sleeve to make up for his dirty tricks.

Harley Quinn The Animated Series Mad Hatter (1 out of 10):

Y’all can call me out to be lazing in this explanation, but y’all can’t deny I’m wrong.

The guy was only in one episode rip. I have no doubt when you spoke of this challenge to Jervis he was high as The Caterpillar on a kite and totally forgot the next day you two agreed upon it.

You probably should’ve reminded him about it before he took care of his morning wood.

- Immediately turned on.

- Like instant boner. No shame whatsoever

- I consider this Jervis the most shameless (Society 6 is close)

- I have no doubt he'll pull the whole Tex Avery wolf bit if you know what I mean.

- Wolf whistle, feet stomping, howling, heart jumping out of chest – the works.

-- I'm on the fence with how he'd feel about you wearing it in public.

- A part of me thinks he'd be proud to rub it in but also that like other Jervi he's selfish and he wants to keep this view of you to himself.

- Watch out for that long pinky nail, it can cut right through whatever sheer material is keeping you from being totally exposed.

Joker's Asylum Mad Hatter:

- Aaaannddd coming in at comatose #3

- He knows it's you, but like…how did you get prettier?

- That's something he thought was literally impossible.

- You'll have to slowly approach him and shake him back to reality that it is still you.

- You're just in a dress…this dress.

- When he first reaches out to touch you, he's worried you may vanish.

- You're still there, and you look absolutely ethereal.

- He's almost more pleased that it's not a vision than the fact that you're here scantily dressed for him.

- Once that hits him however, be prepared for him to cling to you and not let go.

Society Six (2009) Mad Hatter:

- Hate to break it to you, but unless you're wearing a hat…you'll basically go unnoticed.

- Good thing, the best thing about dating someone with a slight obsession with hats is that there's plenty to choose from

- That may even work with an outfit as…provocative as this?

- Once you find one, Jervis will be all over it.

- Be prepared to catch him into your arms.

- He wants to be as close to you as physically possible.

- Running his fingers and hands along the hills and valleys of skin exposed.

- Him kicking his feet and giggling, like the giddy little mad man he is.

- Much like other Hatters, if someone was to catch you in this, they're dead on the spot.
