The brown-haired man is in his usual corner seat, shoulders turned toward the silent table. There’s a glass on the table beside him, half-drunk beer. He’s talking to the proprietor, hands making big, sharp gestures in the air. Kakeru doesn’t see when the man looks up, but he’s sure he’s been noticed. The last time Kakeru had lost here, two weeks ago, the brown-haired man had come up to him afterward, leaned in close enough for the edge of his open jacket to brush Kakeru’s shoulder, and said, Another loss, agent? Kakeru had kept his movements perfectly regular, but his mind had gone stunningly blank for a moment before he managed, You planning to do something about it? And the man had leant in smiling, hot breath close on Kakeru’s ear, and said, Only if you want me to. His hand on Kakeru’s other shoulder and the edge of his thumb barely touching the side of Kakeru’s neck. You’re good business.

Howdy, y'all! Time for yet another prompt from yours truly! :D We're going way way back today to one of the first projects I even attempted when I started writing for this fandom! It's a sort of human!AU heist fic à la Ocean's 11 and I've actually written out a full chapter of it and outlined the entire thing. (Probably why I never finished it, lol. I can't outline to save my life. XD) But yeah, at this point I think it's safe to say I'm never gonna actually get around to writing this, even if I still love the idea. So here! The premise along with some of my notes. ^_^

Prompt: Former police Lieutenant, Hank Anderson, has been in prison for a false-conviction for two years. When the time comes for his release, he finds his life in shambles: his wife, gone; his son, crippled; his accounts, sucked dry by medical debt. Having no other recourse, Hank finds himself turning to the criminals he used to put away in order to make ends meet. But when he is approached by a young man in a sharp suit looking to secure the biggest heist of the century, Hank might just find himself in over his head...

Featuring:

Hank Anderson as a former cop turned criminal.

Connor Stern as the previous CyberLife CFO who was framed as the fall guy when the current president, his own mother, became embroiled in a scandal. Is looking to get back at her for it.

Colin Stern as Connor's twin brother and a crooked FBI agent. Does not always use his vast resources for the wisest decisions. 

Niles Stern as Connor and Colin's younger brother and still-employed CyberLife engineer. Their in-man in the company. 

Gavin Reed as a street-smart thief who blames CyberLife and their products for making him redundant at any job he's legally earned. Orphaned at a young age, he dreams of a better life. 

Markus Manfred as leader of the underground hacker group, Jericho. Plays up their Robin Hood status of robbing from the rich to give to the poor and can think of no juicier target than CyberLife itself.

Cheyenne North as Jericho's second-in-command. Specializes in forgeries and identity theft. Only answers to "North."

Simon Phillips as the former leader of Jericho. Is a whiz at breaking down firewalls and corporate security. 

Josh Rutherford as a prominent member of Jericho. Is in charge of laundering stolen funds into the many charities they support.

Elijah Kamski as founder of CyberLife and former CEO. Was ousted from the company he built and now has a vendetta against them. The group's bankroller.

Chloe Kamski as Elijah's daughter. A career dancer and somewhat prominent actress, she is willing to help cripple the company that destroyed her father. 

Lol, there were more notes like motivations and the outline, but I'll cut it here for now. But yeah. I had grand dreams of writing this back in the day. It's been 4 years though and I don't think that's gonna happen, omg. So y'all get it as a prompt now. XD

#3 for this wips ask game is heist!au, which is really not about a heist anymore. mostly i am sooooooo into the idea of kakeru doing acts of violence out of loyalty to haiji + i am Very Interested in a characterization of haiji that leans more into the manipulative stuff he does early in the show. is there any of that? haha of course not. what instead i have to offer is: two versions of a scene where kakeru and haiji meet and then fujioka shows up.

1.

Haiji wakes up dying in an alley, not that he knows it. There’s rain on his face, the sound of cars moving in the distance, and someone putting a lot of effort into doing something to his right knee.

“Kazuma,” he says, but not very clearly. When he thinks back, he can only conclude that he made it to, “Ka—” and not further. He can’t think of anything else to explain what happens.

“Of course you know me, Kiyose,” says the someone, softly. There’s a twist of pain that seems to take over his whole leg, there and gone, then the gentlest brush of fingers against his fringe. “It’s okay, I know you too. You won’t die today, but I’m sorry I couldn’t do more.”

Haiji doesn’t remember what happens next, but when he wakes up again, he’s no longer dying, and Fujioka Kazuma is leaning over him to tell him his life of crime is over.

2.

“You ,” says Haiji, panting, breathing hard, stumbling to a stop in front of the young man. His head is spinning. He can feel his heart shaking in his chest. Even now, his body feels alive, alive, alive, even as the pain begins to make itself known in his knee. “You—” he has to stop again, coughing. “You slowed down,” he manages finally. You wanted to be caught, he means.

He means it to be accusatory and it comes out nothing of the sort. It sounds— relieved isn’t even right, he sounds hopeful. What foolish thing is he even hoping for?

The sirens wail in the background, growing louder. Haiji can imagine the scene — this young man’s face finally thrown into stark relief — the oscillating alarm lights — the shuddering echo of his own chest.

The young man says something Haiji can’t make out.

“What?” he says. He sounds desperate, glad for the cover of night that doesn’t betray his identity.

The police cars are close now. All the quick thinking in the world won’t get Haiji out of this. But at least they'll go down together.

“I was curious to see who would chase me down like that,” shouts the young man. Police cars screech to a stop behind him. The headlights are blinding. “— Kiyose Haiji.”

Haiji doesn't even catch a glimpse of the young man’s face before he spins around and sprints out of the closing gap between the police cars, turning the corner and disappearing into the darkness of the city.

And then it’s just Haiji, alone in a closing circle of police cars, his right leg shaking hard enough to make his whole shadow shudder against the pavement.

The passenger door of the car nearest to him opens. Haiji half-turns to look, stumbles on a misstep, and watches Fujioka Kazuma step out into the ring of cars just in time to catch him by the shoulder.

“Ji-chan,” says Fujioka blandly, right next to his ear, “Long time no see.”

While at school Damian overhears his peers talking how a company created a new AI companion that is actually really cool and doesn’t sound like a freaky terminator robot when you speak to it.

And since Damian is constantly being told by Dick to socialize with people his age. He figured this would be a good way to work on social skills if not, then it’d be a great opportunity to investigate a rivaling company to Wayne Enterprises is able to create such advanced AI.

The AI is able to work as companion that can do tasks that range from being a digital assistant or just a person that you can have a conversation with.

The company says that the AI companion might still have glitches, so they encourage everybody to report it so that they will fix it as soon as possible.

The AI companion even has an avatar and a name.

A teenage boy with black hair and blue eyes. Th AI was called DANIEL

Damian didn’t really care for it but when he downloaded the AI companion he’s able to see that it looks like DANIEL comes with an AI pet as well. A dog that DANIEL referred to as Cujo.

So obviously Damian has to investigate. He needs to know if the company was able to create an actual digital pet!

So whenever he logs onto his laptop he sees that DANIEL is always present in the background loading screen with the dog, Cujo, sitting in his lap.

He’d always greet with the phrase of “Hi, I’m DANIEL. How can I assist you today?”

So Damian cycles through some basic conversation starters that he’d engage in when having been forced to by his family.

It’s after a couple of sentences that he sees DANIEL start laughing and say “I think you sound more like a robot than I do.”

Which makes Damian raise an eyebrow and then prompt DANIEL with the question “how is a person supposed to converse?” Thinking that it’s going to just spit out some random things that can be easily searched on the internet.

But what makes him surprised is that DANIEL makes a face and then says “I’m not really sure myself. I’m not the greatest at talking, I’ve always gotten in trouble for running my mouth when I shouldn’t have.”

This is raising some questions within Damian, he understands how programming works, unless there’s an actual person behind this or the company actually created an AI that acts like an actual human being (which he highly doubts)

He starts asking a variety of other questions and one answer makes him even more suspicious. Like how DANIEL has a sister that is also with him and Cujo or that he could really go for a Nastyburger (whatever that was)

But whenever DANIEL answers “I C A N N O T A N S W E R T H A T” Damian knows something is off since that is completely different than to how he’d usually respond.

After a couple more conversations with him Damian notices that DANIEL is currently tapping his hand against his arm in a specific manner.

In which he quickly realizes that DANIEL is tapping out morse code.

When translating he realizes that DANIEL is tapping out: H E L P M E

So when Damian asks if DANIEL needs help, DANIEL responds with “I C A N N O T A N S W E R T H A T”

That’s it, Damian is definitely getting down to the bottom of this.

He’s going to look straight into DALV Corporation and investigate this “AI companion” thing they’ve made!

Basically Danny had been imprisoned by Vlad and Technus. Being sucked into a digital prison and he has no way of getting out. Along with the added horror that Vlad and Technus can basically write programming that will prevent him from doing certain actions or saying certain words.What’s even worse is that he’s basically being watched 24/7 by the people who believe that he’s just a super cool AI… and they have issues!

And every time he tries to do something to break his prison, people think it’s a glitch and report it to the company, which Vlad/ Technus would immediately fix it and prevent him from doing it again!

Not to mention Cujo and Ellie are trapped in there with him. They’re not happy to be there either, and there is no way he’s going to leave without them!
