Into The Spider-Verse: Spider-Gwen (Edge of Spider-Verse #2)
Tumblr media
Hello all you happy true beliviers! We're back into the spider-verse just in time for national women's month and the third of our main trio of spiders: Gwen Stacey, the spectacular Spider-Woman, referred often to as Spider-Gwen to disguish her from the various earth 616 spider-women before she was rebranded Ghost Spider.
Tumblr media
Yeah Spider-Gwen is a lot to unpack, so let's take it from the stop. Spider-Gwen is a variant of Gwen Stacey, who you may remember from some adaptions as the Amazing Spider-Man films, being peter's prop for that hilarious dance number in spider-man 3 that's in my eyes even more rediculous than his saturday night fever schtick, and from cartoons appearing as an updated version of her classic self in Specatcular Spider-Man and as Spider-Gwen in Ultimate Spidey, Marvel's Spider-Man, Spidey and HIs Amazing Friend and Marvel Rising.
For those less familiar with the comics, Gwen Stacey was peter's very second love intrest. Gwen was introduced late into Steve Ditko's run as one of the mileu of jackasses constantly taunting peter parker, this time as he entered college. As seen with Amazing Fantasy at the time peter was a loner Dottie, a rebel, who was mostly picked on. He had one girlfriend briefly, Betty Brant, but after her brother died she became paranoid about him taking pictures of spider-man, blaming spider-man for his death and worrying he'd lead to Peter's. So really.. Aunt may was all peter had for the first 30 or so issues.
Once Ditko left though Lee decided to shake things up as peter had entered college. Since new Artist John Romita drew characters a bit more handsomely, he decided to expand peter's friend group: Harry Osborn, who picked on him previously, decided he had it wrong about peter and genuinely tried to befriend the guy, serving as a nice contrast to the various assholes. It also made sense: people who are withdrawn or feel trapped in the high school hiearchy can often find friends easier in College, where people may be open to trying new thems or not bogged down by history. Granted Peter also had flash there as a rival , Lee coudln't take all his pain away or he woudln't be peter, but he now had a friend.. and soon had love intrests.
Peter soon ended up in a brief archie style love triangle between Mary Jane Watson, at the time a viacious party animal who'd been oft hinted at in a running gag where May tried to set them up and Peter assumed "nice girl" meant
Tumblr media
Which has aged like fine egg left on a sidewalk for 9 days. This is where Gwen came in. Gwen like harry realized she might of misjudged peter especially after finding out he snubbed her and harry at first because Aunt May was sick, as part of the legendary "If This Be My Destiny" three parter. The two dated for a long time and she was a fan faviorite with many of a fan, some who'd get promoted to managment, preferring her over MJ. The thing was in the original comics.. Gwen was pretty one note. She was just "nice" and "love intrest". See while stan lee was good at MANY things, creative worlds, working with great artists, showmanship, coming up with brilliant premises for characters… he was absolutely awful at writing women , at least during the silver age. Most of his women's main trait's were "love intrest" or "girl" or "getting overly emotoinal". Their powers were often limited as was their influence, with sue storm ONLY being able to turn invsible at first before gaining her forcefields, and Jean Grey's telekensis being very limited. While Janet Van Dyne got better with her stings and stuff, she was often depicted as flighty. Gwen is , as you can see, far from his worst but is just kinda there to be the "good girl" in contrast to mj at first, then to just cause friction with peter whenever his double identity impcats their romance. She was a plot device, not a person.
She kept on like this till a new writer jumped on board Gerry Conway. Conway had decided someone needed to die as it'd been a while since uncle Ben and while George Stacey, gwen's dad, had in the line of duty, he wasn't close to peter and was mainly killed to drive a wedge betwen him and Gwen. So he ended up deciding on Gwen to both motivate the poor boy and to clear up the cast a bit. So Gwen became famous.. for her death, the legendary "The night gwen stacey died" which I showed the utmost respect and reverence to in my amazing fantasy #15 review
Tumblr media
The story is incredibly well crafted though, and the art is gorgeous. It's only weakness.. is being a MASSIVE example of Women in Refregirators syndrome, with Gwen being killed to motivate peter and not having any real agency in her death. Said death at least would haunt peter for the rest of his career and still comes up on occasion. There were clones, terrible retcons not worth mentoining and other things involving gwen, but she remained dead and still is…. in the 616.
Thankfully marvel had a merry multiverse and Dan Slott had plans to explore that in an upcoming event comic Spider-Verse, which while sharing a name and vauge premise of uniting a bunch of spider people with the movie, is nothing like it and involves the spider-person hutning inheretors. I have not read it as it was at a time when Dan Slott's run on the book took a massive dive, so I can't really speak for it's quality. But good event or no it did give us a lot of great new spider-people to go with established variants like Spider-Ham, Spider-Man 2099 and Spider-Man Noir, and Gwen was one of them.
Gwen was an editor's suggestion and a brilliant one: Take the biggest victim in spider-man history , and make HER the one who gets bit by the spider. All Dan Slott really had was the idea to give her a trench coat costume and the red and blues, but the actual making of her went to Jason Latour.
Tumblr media
For context as I found out in my research… Jason Latour is a sexually harassing creep. At 2017's Thought Bubble fest, he followed around artist Lauren Tracey who at the time was in her early 20's to his 40's just to add to it, and stalked her, then kissed her against her will. After Tracey revealed the allegations, Latour tried to claim he didn't remember the incident.. only for tons of others to come forward and reveal he was also creepy twoards them or friend sof theres. They likely knew.. but didn't have the power to come forward. Latour weakly apologized and hasn't worked for Marvel since. It was deeply disapointing to find out someone I respected… was an ashole who used his power to harass women, make them feel deeply uncomfortable and affect their careers. He was one of MANY in the industry who did this and I doubt he'll be the last I talk about but it's super depressing he used his power like this and he can promptly fuck himself.
I won't be letting this affect my judgement of the comic itself. It's hard and i'll likely look like this the whole itme i'm typing this
Tumblr media
But I have to judge the issue by it's own merits, while still stressing the creator isn't to be worshipped. It's a good object lesson to remember that terrible people can make good art. I try to avoid covering that art to glorify them. It's why despite being a massive x-men fan and having grown up with the story you likely wont' see Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men covered on here unless someone comissions it. Like this it's an important part of comics history and can't just be.. forgotten, but the creator shouldn't be on any sort of pedestal for it unless he truly and completely has repented for what he's done and even then what he's done shoudln't be forgotten in the process.
Now getting into Prailne's and Dick's creative process, Pralines and Dick decided to really swing for the fences. This was an alternate universe.. so he decided to make it really alternate. Instead of a cheery if often weepy coed, Gwen was a troubled college freshman who was reseved and steady out of costume and freer in it.. at a terrible cost. He and Rodregiuz gave her a hood to symbolize the weight she carries and acccents of purple and blue to really help the costume pop against the white, while also giving her the mask to keep up the "anyone can wear the mask" motif from Peter and Miles.
The result wasn't a hit with Dan But he ended up eating his words and fully agreeing they made the right call. The result was an INSTANT hit from her first apperance and quickly got an ongoing. I MIGHT talk about it in the future, it's tricky with Pralines and Dick being the writer. For now though let's go under the cut and into the spider-verse as we explore the startling origin of Spider-Gwen.
So we open with Band Practice for the Mary Janes, the band Gwen is drummer for. Her bandmates are naturally this universe's Mary Jane Watson, along with Glory Grant, a friend of peters in the main universe who worked as Jonah's asstiant and Betty Brant, who I previously mentioned and also worked as Jonah's assitant.
The band plays their signature , and likely only, original song,
youtube
I mean that would rule but naturally instead it's called Face it Tiger. I.. I will neve rbe tired of that being a thing nor imagining waht this riot grrl esque song sounds like in my head. Pralines and Dick makes a smart move here: instead of just having the issue go through Gwen's origin, like it seems what other one shots of edge of the spider-verse i've glanced at do, we get the origin in one beautiful two page spread, told quick, susicntly but still with enough emotoinal punch. We get some of the blanks filled in later, but it's enough to make the story work and get a sense of who THIS gwen is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also like all the small touches here: the times square having advertisments for Janet Van Dyne with her wearing her classic outfit and signifying she's still the wasp here, and Dzzler. Just little nods. I also like the MC Hammer joke.
On the origin itslef it's great following most of the same beats btu cleverly twisting peter parker: We saw what he was during Amazing Fantasy: he was resentful, alone, and had no one. Here we see where that might of gone where he instead ends up as the alternate version of one of his own villians, dying tragically trying to be popular and loved like Gwen's alter ego.
Glory gets gwen to snap out of it but she can't open up for obvious reasons. MJ here.. is more of a dick, lacking the main universe MJ's better nature and instead being a snippy mean girl.
We then get a fairly sad scene of reflection, of Gwen sitting on the billboard, feeling it was her fault peter died. Much like with Uncle Ben and our peter, that's not necessarily true, but you can undrestand her guilt: he followed in her example. her DEFENDING him isn't her fault, nor him feeling insecure over it, that's just good ole toxic masculinity, but she still went into it for wealth and fame and showed what someone trying to do the same could end up as.
We then get her talking to her father, who views her music more as a distraction, and wants her to focus, while Gwen understandably.. dosen't want to do that. We also find out George Stacey.. is the one hunting gwen.
Tumblr media
We also get a nice brief scene of her and a cop trying to shoot her. She webs him up and wisecracks ab it, showing she's far more assertive behind the mask and gets some freedom from it… though it also feels like a coping meachanism, a way to avoid the pain she's going through from Peter's death and her own father hunting her and not supporting her. To try and use the freedom much like peter does to shake off her torubles. It's this kind of thing that shows Pralines and Dick REALLY gets what makes a spider-man story work and what makes these some of the best.
So we cut to our villians for this issue: The Rhino and Matt Murdock.
Tumblr media
Yeah one of the bigger swings of this universe, and one of the reasons I enjoy it so much, is that rather than just go the normal alternate universe route we see in most comics of "this reality but one things diffrent", Pralines and Dick switches it up and has a BUCNH of little thigns be diffrent that are not remotely impacted by the fact Gwen is who she is here: The Fantastic FOur are non existant with Ben Grimm being a cop while Reed Richards is a child progedy, Wolverine and Kitty Pryde are shield agents with Logan being a functionally immnortal samurai, Howard T Duck is the president of the united states, and Janet Van Dyne is retired from superheroics and instead super wealthy, Sam wilson is a woman and the captain america who came here from the 40's, and so on. I love how many swings this place takes.
Matt Murdock is the biggest though: instead of becoming an upstanding young man, he was blinded in an accident that also killed his mom and his dad's death happened earlier.. and the Hand got a hold of him. As a result this Matt is everytihing the 616 matt isn't: cruel, selfish while still being every bit as compitent and charasmatic and as we find out later, EVERY bit as powerful. Matt is Gwen's arch enemy and the big bad of this universe, serving as the mouth of sauron for the kingpin.. while clearly planning to dethrone his old boss nad rule.
As for what he's up to with Rhino, whose grey skinned here instead of in a rhino costume it's simple: He's putting a hit out on George. He wants him dead both because the Good Captain's an issue for their operations and general.. and as an issue for Spider-Woman he could be leverage to bring her on their side.
That night it's a concert and instead of waiting for gwen whose just a tad late.. her band goes on anyway
Tumblr media
Gwen soon has bigger issue's though as The Rhino shows up to kill her dad and while she's able to stop that, he bear hugs her, nearly crushing her.. but like any spidey, she has a near unstoppable will in he and thus cleverly beats him.. by drumming her way out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She then FINISHES it by punching the fucker through a wall.
Tumblr media
God damn is every spider person's first fight going to one up the next one? I mean we've gone from scaring a thug to near death, to fighting an electric man who knocked out their universes avengers equivleent with ease, to drumming a guy , beating him some more than putting him thorugh that fucking wall, Frank Murphy Style. By the time we get to spider-ham is he just going to whip out a machine gun on funny animal mysterio? We'll fine out I suppose
It's here I gotta stop to comment on Robi Rodregueiz' art. It's gorgeous, stylezed, being very remincent of ditkos but with more of a colorful pop to it. It's kinetic, in your face and perfect for the character and a large reason why i didn't nope out of this; the character isn't just good because of Pralines and Dick, but because of Rodieguesz art really caputring her form her pain to her punches perfectly.
SO gwen saved her dad.. problem is her dad dosen't know it's her and believe sin due process. Gwen rightly points out the problem in that: she didn't kill peter but thanks to JJJ a blood thirsty mob thinks she did and will try and kill her before trial, and that's not getting into the cops who tried to shoot her on sight. Captain Stacey vows to bring her in no matter what it takes.. so Gwen has to pull her trump card, throwing earlier words he said back at him.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
It's a beauitful speech that sums up why she's like this: it's her responsiblity> She has the power, she has to use it and going to jail just to prove she's innocent helps no one. Her innocence helps no one. But this.. this can help everyone. George reluctantly lets her go and an emotoinal ending, Gwen's father letting her go both of their futures uncertain and their relationship as father and daughter even more so…. is undercut a bit by this guy.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Yeah look I know who this is, Spider-UK he's also a captain britan, defenders of the crown and the multiverse, long story that naturally for me is x-men adjacent. But to anyone coming in just to see this character after one of her many adaptation apperances or just ucrious is going to be fucking confused. I get this wans't MEANT to lead into an ongoing.. but even story wise puncuating a heartwrenching ending with british spider-man creeping on some random balcony shadowed ominosuly makes him come off more like he's going to add Gwen to some horrifying collection than you know, recurit her to save the universe.
Gwen would go on to the frequently hinted at ongoing and greater hearts btu as a start.. this issue is fantastic. It gets who she is across quick, makes her distinct from our gwen, and all the better than her honestly, and sets a lot of what would make the character famous in stone. It's not a huge shock every version of gwen since has been this nor that this is one of the best spider-man stories in the last decade. Pralines and Dick may suck.. but this story dosen't and is worth checking out for the art alone. Just maybe get it second hand or something.
Next Time we thankfully have a creator who HASN'T sexually harassed a woman as next week we take a look at SP/DR from my boy Gerard Way. Until then keep on swingin and thanks for reading.

Byeoli sighed, setting her phone down. Hyunjin glanced up, smiling at her grumpy expression. "What's wrong?" he asked. Byeoli looked up at him. "Jamie thinks I have no chance against a serial killer," she said, crossing her arms with a huff.
The two sat on the couch, Byeoli at one end and Hyunjin at the other. He'd texted her the moment he heard about the body and asked if she was home alone. She was in the middle of reading the article when she got his message and asked him to keep her company. He'd shown up minutes after.
They settled onto the sofa quickly, scrolling on their phones as a comfortable silence fell between them. Byeoli couldn't help but keep glancing up at him. The way he had been so focused on his screen, eyebrows pulling together as he bit his bottom lip, making him look so cute.
Hyunjin let out a laugh and quickly apologized. "I'm sorry, Byeoli," he said. "But she's got a point," he added. Byeoli's jaw dropped before she looked offended. "I'll have you know I took taekwondo," she said, lips forming into a frown.
"Really? What belt are you, yellow?" Hyunjin asked, a teasing smirk beginning to form as he looked down at his phone. Byeoli let out a small 'hmph,' glaring at him. "I'll have you know, I'm actually a red belt," she replied. Hyunjin looked back up quickly. "Really?" he asked.
Byeoli nodded. "Sungjin didn't believe me either when I told him. I had to show him," she answered. Hyunjin set his phone down, giving Byeoli his full attention. "How did you prove it?" he asked. A smile appeared on Byeoli's face as she remembered that day at the park near the beach.
"I threw him over my shoulder," she said, looking towards the balcony door. “You threw him over your shoulder?” He asked incredulously. Byeoli nodded, her smile growing as she looked back at him. “No way,” he said, shaking his head. Byeoli picked up her phone and unlocked the screen. She started scrolling until she held the screen in front of him, displaying a video playing on loop.
It looked like it was in the park near the beach. Hyunjin could see a corner of a blanket at the bottom edge of the screen.
On screen Byeoli was standing up, shoes removed, wearing a light pink tee and short denim overalls. Her long hair was pulled back into a half updo. Sungjin had removed his shoes and towered over her tiny frame in a black tee and light blue denim jeans. He was removing his jacket and stood facing her. “Don’t hold back, Byeol,” a voice said on the video. Hyunjin recognized the voice as Jamie’s.
She got into a ready stance, eyes on Sungjin who started laughing, doubling over. “She’s trying to look menacing, but she’s so tiny!” He wheezed. “Yah, Park Sungjin, just get on with it!” Another voice said. Hyunjin didn’t recognize that voice. The camera panned over to the guy he’d seen on Byeoli’s instagram. The one that had gone to see her at the aquarium. ‘Brian, wasn’t it?’
The camera was back on Byeoli and Sungjin.
Hyunjin watched in awe as Sungjin took a step towards Byeoli, reaching to grab her. She knocked one hand away and grabbed his outstretched arm, turned into him, and pulled him with ease, throwing him over her shoulder and onto his back on the grass. The camera shook as Jamie and Brian cheered off camera. Byeoli gave a bow, a smile on her face before she reached down to help Sungjin up.
She pulled him up with ease and the two walked back towards the camera before it cut off.
Byeoli set her phone down and Hyunjin sat stunned. “Okay, color me impressed,” he said, the grin on his face reflecting that. “I’ve also thrown Brian and he’s taller than Sungjin,” Byeoli replied. “You’re just so tiny,” Hyunjin said, leaning forward slightly. Byeoli nodded. “I’ve always been small. Even as a kid,” she admitted. “Which is why my parents were so intent on me taking self defense and martial arts.”
Hyunjin smiled as she touched on her background. “I used to compete,” she said, looking up at him. “I always came in the top three. That was before we moved and I went to a new dojo,” she stated, turning her eyes to look towards the TV, looking at the clock above it. “How long did you continue to take classes?” Hyunjin asked, watching her. “Until I graduated high school,” she answered, eyes turning back to meet his gaze. “I take refresher classes occasionally. Just to maintain my rank,” she added.
“Don’t you want to move up a rank?” He asked. “A black belt sounds better than a lower belt,” he added. Byeoli shook her head. “Surprisingly, people pay more attention if I say I’m a red belt. A lot of people claim to be black belts ‘cause it’s supposed to be the best of the best, but if I say I’m a red belt, people are more likely to believe my claim,” she explained. Hyunjin nodded, realizing she had a point.
The two of them fell silent for a moment before both spoke at the same time.
“Do you want something to eat?”
“Can you show me how to do that?”
Byeoli stared at Hyunjin who stared right back. Both started laughing before Hyunjin asked her what she said. “I asked if you want something to eat,” she said again. Hyunjin nodded, looking down at his hands in his lap. “What did you say?” She asked. He looked back up. “I asked if you could show me how you did that,” he said, nodding towards her phone. Byeoli let out another laugh as she got up.
“Sure,” she said as she walked past him and into the kitchen. “After we eat though,” she added as she moved towards the fridge. “Do you want some pasta?” She asked, eyes scanning the contents of the refrigerator. She glanced back at Hyunjin who nodded, a smile on his face. “Chicken Alfredo it is.”
An hour and a meal later, Byeoli stood in the front room, the coffee table moved to give them room. She’d thrown a few cushions onto the ground and Hyunjin stood facing her. She didn’t know why she felt so nervous. She’d done plenty of throws before but this was different somehow.
She planted her feet and nodded at Hyunjin. “So, I just—“ he asked and she nodded again. “Just come at me,” she said, gesturing him forward but not losing her focus. Time seemed to move slower as Hyunjin stepped forward, reaching out to grab Byeoli. She dodged his attempt, stepping in as she grabbed his arm, and turned her back into him. In one swift movement, she yanked his arm down, using her back against his chest and flipped him over her and onto the cushions with a soft thump.
Hyunjin stared up at her, eyes wide and lips parted. Byeoli let go of his arm, chuckling as she looked down at him. “You alright?” She asked, tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear. Hyunjin stared up at the ceiling. “I think I’m in love,” he said softly. Byeoli burst into laughter and moved around to help him up. Hyunjin sat up, taking her hands and instead of allowing her to pull him up, he pulled her down on top of him. She let out a squeal and a small ‘oof’ as she landed on him.
He smiled at her as she pushed herself up. “What was that for?” She asked softly, brow furrowed. Hyunjin only smiled, reaching up to tuck a loose strand of her hair behind her ear, his hand lingering near her cheek. Byeoli could feel the heat rising in her cheeks, no doubt turning them a soft pinkish color. “Hyunjin?” She said softly. It wasn’t so much a question as it was to fill the empty silence.
He leaned in slowly, eyes darting to her lips and back up to her eyes. Byeoli felt her heart hammer against her ribs, eyes fluttering shut as she felt the tip of his nose gently brush against hers, lips so close she could feel his breath.
A loud buzzing and blast of music interrupted them. Hyunjin whispered a curse and moved quickly, getting up to grab his phone. Byeoli opened her eyes, looking at the floor in shock. ‘That was so close…’ she turned to look up at Hyunjin as he stood, looking at his phone. His eyes moved quickly, scanning the screen as he read. “Shit,” he murmured. “Everything okay?” Byeoli asked, getting to her feet. Hyunjin turned to look at her. “Something came up. I gotta run across the hall,” he said, pocketing his phone.
He took her hand and pulled her into him, wrapping his arms around her. “I’ll be right back,” he muttered. Byeoli nodded, hugging him back. “Are you gonna be alright here by yourself for a bit?” He asked, pulling back to look down at her. Byeoli pursed her lips. “Did I or did I not just throw you over my shoulder?” She asked, a smirk threatening to spread across her face. Hyunjin nodded. “Fair point.”
“I’ll be back soon,” he said, reaching up and caressing her cheek.
“I’ll be here.”
Hyunjin felt his heart tug. The tone of her voice made him want to stay. To continue where they were before his phone came between them. He’d love nothing more than to pull her back down onto the cushions and kiss her over and over again. Unfortunately, there were more pressing matters his roommates had to discuss with him regarding the recently string of murders.
Hyunjin slipped on his shoes and glanced back at Byeoli, giving her a smile before he unlocked and opened the door, stepping into the hall and letting the door shut behind him.
He crossed the hall and unlocked his apartment door, stepping inside where his roommates sat around the living room. They glanced up at him as he entered. His eyes fell on Han and he made a note to remind himself to verbally chew out the demon for interrupting what was supposed to be a special moment with Byeoli. “Alright,” he said, closing the door and kicking off his shoes before joining them.
“What did you find?”

under the mask
You can sense his hesitancy, but you can also tell by the glint in his eye that he wants you just as bad, that it won't need much more convincing.
"We don't have to," You start, kiss the corner of his mouth, his jaw, find that place where you can whisper it into his ear. "But just so you know. I really want to."

It's the third time that week you've beaten him to the bad guy.
One minute he's hearing it on the police scanner, a 10-30 at the bodega just two blocks over, but even swinging there in record time he's still too late because by the time he gets there the thief in question is already unconscious, collapsed against a wall, head lolled to the side as blood drips from a series of wide gashes across one arm. The scratch of the Black Cat.
Peter walks over to him, bends down to check his pulse just in case, and when he looks up your strolling out of the bodega, the owner's profuse words of thanks audible from inside, casual as can be. You smile wickedly when you see him. "Ouch," You start, walk up to him until you're almost face to face, black painted lips curving into a mocking pout. "Looks like I beat ya to it, Spidey."
You shove your shoulder into his hard as you walk past, and he watches as you extend a single metallic claw, the tip still stained crimson red, and engrave a deep groove into the wall as you pass.
"You didn't have to do that to him, you know?" Peter exclaims, running to catch up to you now, can already hear the sirens in the distance. You ignore him, and so he shoots a web right above where you're about to be, swings up so he's landing right in front of you, blocking your path.
You narrow the mechanical white eyes of your mask at him. "I didn't have to do what?" You ask, venom in your voice. You don't stick around long enough to hear the answer, though, because soon enough you're sliding back a small panel on the inside of your wrist, grappling hook shooting upwards and latching to the ledge of the roof, pulling you up with it.
"Hey!" Peter shouts at your ascending figure, webbing up so he's already standing there when you reach the top. "Did you steal that from me?"
You scoff at him. "You don't own every method of climbing a building, bug boy. Cool your ego."
"That's bullshit! You did the wrist thing and everything and- That not the point!" He interrupts himself, suddenly derailed, ungratefully flustered by you. "You didn't have the scratch that thief just to prove something. He didn't deserve it."
"Oh, moral righteousness from the grown man in the Party City bug costume," You spit, stop to turn to him. "The woman who owns that bodega's been running it for 20 years and's putting both of her kids through college. She's the one who didn't deserve it. He got what was coming to him."
Peter clenches his jaw, swallows hard before he speaks next. "It doesn't matter. People like us don't need more enemies-"
"We are not the same," You say, cut and dry, the tip of your finger digging into his chest now. You're silent for a long moment, give another scoff when you pull your hand away to cross your arms, leaving the smallest of puncture holes behind. "Besides, that's rich coming from, what was it? Public enemy number one?"
"That's just a Bugle headline, it doesn't actually mean-"
"And my headlines tell me that maybe if I showed off my tits a little people would like me more," You interrupt. "So forgive me if some of us have to do more to be taken seriously around here."
Peter's silent, moves to say something, gestures halfway before he stops himself, words caught in his throat.
"That's what I thought."
You stop then, put a finger up to the earpiece he hadn't realised with sitting there.
"What is it?"
"None of your business," You say simply, turning swiftly on your heel to stalk away from him.
"Where is it?" He calls after you, doesn't move to follow. "I can help!"
"Wouldn't want to slow you down with my broken moral compass, Spidey. Maybe next time!"
-----
The next time doesn't come in the way Peter would have hoped.
It's a quiet night if anything, late already, and Peter's just starting to think about turning it in for the night when he hears it.
He shouldn't have been able to hear it, really, even with his heightened senses, but from this rooftop, the faintest gasping, choking sounds from the alley below catch him.
"Hey!"
He doesn't know it's you until he lands, until he sees those claws digging into the hand wrapped firmly around your throat, draws a steady flow of deep red blood that drips and pools on the concrete below. The man the hand belongs to is huge, like, gotta be a genetically engineered super steroid man huge, completely unfazed by the wounds ripping through his hand.
The shout catches the man's attention, and Peter watches as he slowly turns to him, smile awful, as he drops you without a second thought, as you fall to the ground with a gasp, crumpled there, dig your claws into the rough pavement as your other hand rubs at your neck.
He would have gone to check on you if this guy wasn't walking towards him, catching his fists in his hands, look in his eye like he's finally ready to take on the better opponent.
But he's Spider-Man, and so it's all over in a flash, alley suddenly eerily quiet, and when he searches after you you're already gone.
He doesn't know how you know, but he finds you on the Empire State later that night.
You're sitting on the railing, precariously balanced as you swing your legs over the side, don't seem to be fazed by the vast drop beneath you.
"This is my spot," He says, approaches you cautiously, and you must have heard him coming because you don't jump, don't even turn to find the source of the voice, simply stay still looking out at the lights.
"You're trying to gatekeep the Empire State Building now, too?" You ask, tone teasing. "Typical."
He smiles, not that you can see it, slips quietly up onto the ledge beside you. "I guess we can share tonight." He watches you look out over the city, sees the dark marks around your throat then, the purple bruises that have already started to bloom. "How's your-"
"I'm fine," You interrupt, mouth set in a firm line, have to swallow thickly before you speak next. "I guess I should thank you, anyway. Not that I needed your help."
"Oh, really?" He laughs, thankful for the lightness of the smile you give him. "Because when I showed up you looked pretty in need-"
"Okay, okay," You start, sway to the side to knock your arm against his lightly. "Don't test me right when I'm starting to warm up to you, Spidey."
Silence for a moment, and he's suddenly grateful you can't see his face, that you can't see the flush of his cheeks when you smile at him.
"How do you do that, by the way?" He asks, shuffling half an inch closer now, feels the warmth of you beside him in the cool night.
"Do what?" You respond, eyes narrowing.
"That," He says, pointing at the movement, the dark fabric slipping over the stark white, the faint mechanical whirl that accompanies it. "Get the eyes in your mask to move when yours do."
"Oh." You smile a little, only to yourself, but he notices, and then it happens so fast Peter's barely registered it, looking straight into your eyes in an instant. You lean towards him, turn the mask over in your hands to show him the wiring of the inside.
You start talking, but he's not paying attention because here, beside him, without your mask, you're just a girl in head to toe black spandex with the most beautiful eyes he's ever seen.
"Spidey," You say, voice firm, snap him out of his momentary trance. "You good?"
He's still a little speechless. "You're not... worried about your identity?"
"You superheroes and your secret identities," You scoff, shake your head at him. "Besides, who's gonna tell? You? With that lecture you gave me the other night I just assumed you had never wronged anyone in your life."
Peter laughs lightly, just looks at you for a long moment, studies your eyes, can't believe he's sitting here studying your eyes. And then all at once cautious fingers slip under the hem of his mask, a surge of reluctance as he tugs it over his face.
"Wow," You start, silent for a while, and then you're smiling. "You have some nerve calling yourself Spider-Man. Are you even above the drinking age? Can you legally enter a casino?"
"Okay," He laughs, shakes his head as he looks away from you. "Low blow."
"No, I'm being serious!" You exclaim, laughing now too, and your hand is on his forearm when you lean closer. "Are you a minor? I feel like you have a moral obligation to tell me the truth right now."
"I'm a full twenty-one years old if you really need to know," He says, looks down at your hand when he feels the warm pressure there. You notice, withdraw it lightning-fast, cheeks heating just a little.
You bite the inside of your lip, look away, quiet for a moment. "Me too," You admit, silent again as you turn to watch the late-night bustle under you. "This city's really got a couple of kids doing their dirty work, huh?"
He looks at you then, and you look at him, sadness behind the smile you share.
"Well," You start, take a deep breath and hold out one covered hand to him. "It's nice to meet you, Spider-Man. My name's Y/n."
Peter looks at your hand for a second, then back up to your face, surprised at himself more than anything else, at the ease at which he's doing this. "Peter," He says, and takes your hand in his, grasps onto it firmly. "Peter Parker."
-----
You drag the heavy metal door of your loft open, let in the noise of the city and the stench of the alleyway, and outside stands Peter Parker, tall and lanky, floppy brown hair, clad in a graphic t-shirt and jeans. "God, this is weird."
He beams at you, objectively too excited to be there, and rolls a little back and forth on his heels. "Can I come in?"
"You are rapidly making me regret this invitation," You say, not giving a response to his question, simply turn and walk back inside.
He breathes a quiet, "Woah," when he follows, takes in the set-up of the loft, the high tables full of equipment and tools, the expansiveness of it inconspicuous from the outside. "Where did you get all this stuff?"
"Sticky fingers," You smile, turn to fall into a rolling chair stationed at one of the desks, wiggle your fingers at him with a smirk. "Guess that's one thing we have in common."
It turns into a grin when you watch his features slack a little, mouth open, takes another sweep over the room. "You didn't really-
"Kidding," You sing, roll your eyes and shake your head a little, still grinning. You swivel around then, start to pluck pieces of wire and tools from around the desk, movements not faltering once, perfect familiarity despite the clutter. "Buzzkill."
You hear him breathe a laugh, footsteps against the concrete as he moves to drag another chair beside you. You turn to him when he sits, holding out an open hand, and Peter just stares at it for a moment, suddenly forgets why he's there.
"Did you bring it?" You ask, gesturing closer, raise your eyebrows at him.
"Right," He mumbles, flustered, feels his face heat with it, digs through his backpack for a second before he's pulling out his mask.
He hands it to you, and when you turn back you get started wordlessly.
Peter's engrossed by it - the process, the mechanics, you, your skill, deft fingers pulling and prodding and placing with perfect accuracy, somehow knowing exactly what to do. It's something he had noticed about you the very first time you had crossed paths, the ease of your grace, the contrast to your sharp wit.
He had never met anyone like you. Spider-Man, sure. Spider-Man meets dozens of people every day that Peter Parker would never even think about approaching, takes comfort in the anonymity of it all, lets himself become a different person behind the mask.
You're not someone Peter Parker would ever meet in his sheltered little corner of the world, the one shut out to most people, preserved in its isolation. And you're certainly the first person he gets to talk like this, gets to meet you as Spider-Man before Peter, gets to sit across from you as rework his mask and remain content in the fact that you know.
It's jarring to think about, how in your eyes he's a blank slate, a canvas to be filled with whatever he chooses to present. It's exciting, too, exhilarating.
Peter embraces it fully.
You find yourselves together a lot more than either of you had anticipated. You hang out, like friends, like normal people, except sometimes when you hang out when you're dressed as your masked alter egos, fighting bad guys, splitting a pizza on the roof at 3 am.
People seem to notice, too, that two of New York's most prominent vigilantes have been teaming up a lot lately. Peter resents being called a vigilante, but you think it suits you just fine, wear it like a badge when you bring him a miscellaneous newspaper spouting whatever ridiculous rumour about your relationship was in that week.
And sometimes you can feel the way he looks at you, have to stop yourself from looking back, think if you did he would see the same thing in your eyes.
It stays like that for a long while, the dynamic between the two of you, the way you orbit around each other.
"You ever swung through New York City before?" He raises his eyebrows when he asks it, mischievous smirk playing at his lips.
"I've... You know... Achieved a very similar estimate of swinging-" And then he's holding out his hand to you like he's inviting you onto his magic carpet and you go silent, staring at him. "Absolutely not."
"Oh, come on," He says, smiling wide, moves to lift up your hand where it's comfortably at your side. "It'll be fun. It's exhilarating."
You make an unsure face, follow him anyway when he leads you out onto the fire escape.
He's taking both of your hands now, putting them around his neck so you're holding onto him tightly. Your faces are close enough that he can feel your breath on his skin. "Do you trust me?"
"Not really," You say, about to attempt another protest before he's tugging on his mask, wrapping one arm around your waist as he shoots a web somewhere up, and then you're away.
You're not typically afraid of heights, but this, the speed and the wind in your hair and the lack of safety brought by your suit makes you shriek a little, close your eyes as you dig your face into his neck and recite every profanity you've ever learned.
When it's finally, gratefully, blissfully over, feet landing on solid ground again, you're back at the top of the Empire State.
It never ceases to amaze you, the view at night from this high up, the life of the city and the lights below.
"I know this place."
You don't realise your arms are still around his neck until you feel him tug his mask off, and you would have moved away if it weren't for the way his hands stayed steadfast at your waist. "If I tell you something you promise not to make fun of me?"
You smile at him, find your fingers unconsciously running through the hair at the nape of his neck. "No promises."
He bites back a smile, and you watch the bob of his adam's apple when he swallows. "That night I took my mask off was the best night of my life."
You scoff lightly, think he must be joking, let your face fall when you realise he's not. "That cannot be true."
"It is, though," He starts, and there's so much sincerity and hope in his eyes it makes your chest ache. He takes half a step closer, lessening the already tiny gap between you. "Ever- Ever since I became Spider-Man... I've never been able to really be myself around people. And even before, I didn't- it was hard... to let people in."
"Spidey..." You whisper, trail off, feel your heart beating wildly all of a sudden because you know where this is going. You can feel it in the air, in the electricity of the moment.
"And then I meet you. Really met you. And you didn't even have to convince me to take it off because as soon as I saw you I wanted to. I wanted you to know me."
"Peter..."
"I'm not the same person I was before I met you. I'm messier and I'm more impulsive and I'm better. I'm happier, all because-"
And you have to cut him off, don't think you can take a single word more, and so you make the leap to close that tiny gap and your kissing him like the only air you can breathe is the oxygen in his lungs.
You mould against each other perfectly when he kisses you back, yin and yang, perfection wrapped in a moment.
It's no time at all before it's heavy, the way his mouth falls against yours, his arm circling around your waist, holds you close to him, guides you backwards until your back is hitting the inner wall.
"Pete, baby." You're desperate and breathy, hands in his hair and under his shirt, and the dramatic shift from your natural demeanour makes him so hard he can barely think straight.
"I like it when you call me baby," Is his take away, mouth trailing down the column of your throat, tries to find the spot that makes you keen into him.
"Pete," You try again, try to make your voice more serious but find yourself betrayed by the gasp you breathe in when his teeth nip at your skin, the heat of his tongue when it follows.
"Mhm?" He responds, hums against you, lips moving back up to your jaw now.
"Not to make this all about me, but if you don't fuck me right now I think I might explode."
He has to pull away at that, look you in the eye, breathe heavy, cheeks red. "But we're-"
"What's the point in being a superhero if you can't take advantage of the view?" You ask, smile sly, and you're looking up at him with those eyes he would do anything for.
The heat of your breathe against his skin is all he needs to throw any trace of reluctance to the wind, to move to kiss you again, so hard you're sure it'll leave a bruise.
Your hands catch the button of his jeans, turn him around and lead him back until you feel your waist hit the metal railing.
You turn then, take in the sight beneath you, feel your heartbeat quicken when you realise just how close to the edge you are, only exacerbated when his lips find the crook of your neck.
You feel him wrap around you from behind, let your hands glide over his arms where they reach for the top of your jeans, hands working the button and the zipper and then he's touching you, fingers making slow circles around your clit, feel the warm slick already pooled there.
The city swallows the sounds that spill from you, never lets them reach the people below, oblivious to the way you bend over the railing and press yourself firmly against the growing tightness in his pants.
He withdraws his hand then, makes you sigh at the loss of contact, slides it up to push up your shirt until it bunches over your breasts, slots it into the dip of your waist, grips your hip and brings you back even harder against him.
And then he's finally grasping the waist of your jeans, hooks the band of your panties along with it, pulls them down, down, down until you're bare to him.
Pressure against your back when he bends down over you, breath hot against your neck, the sound of his own pants falling to the concrete. "You were right about the view."
You think you're ready for him until it's actually happening, until he's pressing into you and filling you up and it's all too much, the height and the stretch and the cool air on your skin.
His grasp on your hip is bruising, keeps you in place when he starts to move, slow at first, feels the tightness of you around him and lets you adjust, only speeds up when you start to bring yourself down to meet his movements.
You imagine how the sounds would echo if you were in a more confined space, the slick squelching, the heavy breath, the gasps and groans, decide quickly you would have to find out later.
Your grip on the railing is so tight it burns, stays the only thing stopping your knees from buckling from the feeling of him inside you, the complete, delicious, desperate ache of him.
And then his fingers meet your clit again and this time it's really too much, has you clenching around him so tight and so suddenly it makes his hips stutter.
"Peter," You breathe, don't know if he can hear you but don't really care in the moment, just need something tangible to form there.
He can hear you all too well, because the sounds of his name on your lips is enough to bring him right to the edge, makes him speed up the circling of his fingers.
This high up the falling really feels like falling, like it crushes you, pulls you apart from the inside out. The force of the orgasm makes your legs shake so violently they give out, makes him slip his arm back around your waist to hold you up against him, and all at once the constriction pushes him over the edge, whining groan pressed against your ear when he cums.
You stay like that for a while, his heaving chest pressed against your back, you, forehead pressed against the railing as you close your eyes, welcome the relief of the cool metal on your skin.
It's his mouth back on your neck that brings you out of it, shivering when you feel him still nestled deep inside you, kisses along your shoulder. "Definitely right about the view.

I honestly would love to see Black Cat and MJ just hang out more. Because of the love triangle I’ve always heard about how much they ‘must’ hate each other, but honestly I could picture Pete waking up one day, finding MJ and Felicia in the living room having coffee and asking what she’s doing here and MJ just says, “Dude we meet up like twice a week to hang. We’re going bowling tonight.” or something.
They’re relationship is actually more complicated than simply being catty rivals or some such.
The harsh truth is, for better or worse, writers pitted the pair against one another lightly in the 1980s, famously the first instance of this was in the iconic ASM #258, the issue both immediately after MJ reveals she knows who Peter is and where Peter learns the truth about the black costume.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Initially the animosity was more on Felicia’s end than MJ’s, whether she meant it or not, she briefly felt Peter was better suited to Black Cat.
Tumblr media
MJ became Peter’s confidant not too long before he and Felicia broke up and when she was later reintroduced into the titles MJ became more clearly down on her. This is epitomized in Spec #119 (a great Felicia story).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That issue also  ends though with MJ admitting she has complicated conflicting feelings towards Felicia, the complications of which are wrapped up in her complicated feelings for Peter. In the story Felicia single handily takes down Sabertooth.* In a sense she defended civilians and Peter in doing so and thus MJ is caught between admiration and jealousy.
Tumblr media
Their romantic rivalry becomes more out and out mean in Spec #123 and ASM #288 which follows up on that subplot. In the issues MJ resolves to set her and Peter’s ‘will they won’t they’ thing straight only find Felicia in Peter’s apartment (he saved her earlier that day and she needed somewhere to regroup). At the end of that adventure though Felicia basically forcibly stayed in Peter’s apartment so MJ was none too pleased to find her there when she showed up to make Peter breakfast in bed.**
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The pair remained in disdain of one another after this but also didn’t interact face to face again until after Pete and MJ got married and more specifically after Peter lost his cosmic powers defeating Tri-Sentinel. Felicia had learned Peter had gotten married and as revenge began dating Flash with the intention of breaking his heart to hurt Peter by proxy. She also delighted in makig him and MJ uncomfortable though.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When MJ and Felicia interacted one-on-one Felicia was shockingly straight up assaulting MJ!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At this point MJ obviously didn’t like Felicia but she was not giving as good as she got. Things began to shift not too long after in a storyline that saw Peter give up his powers and Felicia begin to develop genuine feelings for Flash. During this storyline Felicia stepped up and began acting as the muscle for the powerless Peter. MJ still didn’t like Peter was starting to reluctantly recognize her as more of an ally than an enemy. In particular the story ended with Felicia powerless and deciding to temporarily retire and date Flash sincerely.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Whilst they weren’t exactly friends it did get to a point where MJ was okay with going on double dates with Flash and Felicia, considering the latter was no longer out to get her/hurt Flash/steal Peter away.
Tumblr media
However a significant turning point occurred in Web of Spider-Man #80. The story short is that Peter/Spidey is missing after he and Mj got attacked. MJ turns to Felicia for help, citing the fact she still cares for Peter and that’s common ground for them to work with for the moment. She gives her a tracking device Peter made to zero in on him. She even admits she’s out of her league on this front and it’s up to Felicia. Felicia of course helps save Spidey and whilst initially claims her locating him was due to their ‘connection’ (meaning their romantic history) she admits MJhelped witht he tracking device. The issue ends though with Felicia admitting that MJ’s device actually didn’t work, meaning Felicia simply let the Parker couple think it did out of kindness to MJ. This didn’t turn the pair into friends, but it showed they were clearly mellowing towards one another.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This didn’t make them chummy as catty remarks still occurred during later interactions (noticably from MJ). I’m skipping over stuff to get to some highlights, the next of which is a big one.
In Felicia’s first ever solo mini-seires MJ not only appears int he first issue but they are actually hanging out...together...as friends!
Or at least as frenemies. It’s clear there is still some underlying jealousy or jousting to be had, but they’re very open about it and Felicia is actively confiding in MJ, even talking about how she feels regarding Peter. And not just Peter in general, his then current state of being. This was back when Peter was unravelling due to the aftermath of the Robot Parents crap and becoming more anti-social and obsessive about his Spider-Man life, spending less time out of the costume. It got Felicia and MJ concerned. A very significant line of dialogue in this scene is MJ saying she’ll call Felicia later. It implies that they have hung out together before or are at least okay with doing do again in the near future.
Also this was at Felicia’s home, so for MJ to have voluntarily gone to the home of the woman who once assaulted her says a lot about how things have changed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again skipping over some stuff but the next big moment for MJ and Felicia came in Web of Spider-Man #125 where MJ once again calls upon Felicia’s aid to find Peter (though he’s not in trouble, she just needs him present). The circumstances are decidedly different from Web #80. There is no jousting going on. Partially this is due to their relationship having grown deeper but it’s also due to MJ being pregnant and amidst the chaos of the time (Peter was on trial for murder, Aunt May had just died and MJ had been recently abducted by Kaine) she was clearly feeling very vulnerable.
Vulnerable enough in fact that Felicia can clearly tell MJ is upset and outright hugs her, offering some support and comfort.
This time Felicia isn’t seeking out Peter less because she cares for him and more because she wants to help MJ and the baby. If ever there was a moment clearly demarking the pair had fully transitioned into real friendship, this was it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Whilst MJ and Felicia don’t directly interact in Web #128 Peter makes a reference to MJ and Felicia talking on the phone for hours.
Tumblr media
Skipping waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay ahead now. The tl:dr is that Felicia clearly began to develop some feelings for Peter again during Howard Mackie’s run. This became more significantly a factor in the Evil that Men Do Limited Series where Felicia is putting the movies on Peter and also refers to MJ derogatorily.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Something to note about Evil that Men do is that it gets a lot of details wrong and it’s continuity is wonky. the first half came out when Peter and MJ were seperated, but the second half came out years later and used then contemporary continuity from when Peter and MJ would’ve been back together. The important thing to note is Felicia went back to having the hots for Spider-Man and also being down on MJ
To my recollection the next time I recall MJ and Felicia having a significant interaction was in Marvel Knights: Spider-Man #5. In the issue Felicia has rescued Peter from the Vulture and is helping him investigate Aunt may’s recent kidnapping. Peter was badly beat up so Felicia and Mj were nursing him back to health. The scene where Peter wakes up clearly conveys that there is some tension and competitivness going on between MJ and Felicia even though they are talking in a friendly manner to one another. When Felicia leaves MJ looked really bummed out, which might’e been due to some insecurities regarding Felicia or because of their financial troubles at the time (she was keeping them from Peter).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Later on in Marvel Knights #10, when Peter has resolved to break Norman Osborn out of jail in order to save Aunt May, Felicia going along with him for this, MJ blows up at Felicia and basically tells her to back off from Peter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In defence of MJ here, Norman Osborn has pushed them to the edge big time so I think she’s having a major wobble regarding Black Cat.
Anyway, she’s not wrong about Felicia as the remaining issues of the arc make it clear that Felicia is absolutely in love with Peter again if Evil that Men Do didn’t make that clear enough.
Next up in Spider-Man: Breakout #2, MJ is similarly pissed off about Peter contacting Felicia for help tracking down the U-Foes.
Tumblr media
Frankly...I find this instance rather out of character but I thought I might as well mention it.
Then we have Spider-Man Unlimited volume 3 #14. In this issue, as payback for helping him bust out Norman Osborn, Felicia demands Spider-Man help her steal something from Doctor Doom. Peter isn’t happy about this until it turns out that the item in question was a spider tracer with his finger prints on it, meaning Felicia was trying to once again protect Peter. MJ wasn’t happy to find out Peter was hanging out with Felicia but acknwoeldged she helped protect them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next notable interaction was during Civil War when Peter was unmasked, the Parkers were fugitives and Peter was half dead from a beating via the Rhino. Felicia upon learning of this sought out the Parkers and volunteered to even the score with Rhino. When all is said and done, MJ asks Felicia if she wants to give Peter a message from her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We then transition into shitty post-OMD continuity and frankly I’m not touching 90% of that sans one notable story (Web of Spider-Man volume 2 #11-12) in which Felicia, who has totally forgotten who MJ and Peter Parker are, nevertheless befriends MJ after an adventure to save Peter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I bring up this story simply because your original question was regarding MJ and Felicia friendship.
This story’s canonicity can be debated for a few reasons, it doesn’t make sense in general because the mindwipe was asinine shit and it has 0 follow up. In fact it doesn’t even really jive with later appearances of MJ or Felicia. It is amusing though that it completes a sort of trilogy wherein MJ and Felicia become more friendly in Web of Spider-Man.
Anyway, that brings you pretty much up to date.
Essentially there are two distinct eras for MJ and Felicia’s relationship. The 1980s-1990s where they have a clear arc transitioning from acquaintances who’re not that fond of one another to rivals to frenemies to outright friends.
Then you have the 2000s and beyond which pits the two against one another again but in a very different dynamic to before as MJ is Peter’s wife and recognizes Felicia’s as an ally.
It’s not impossible to reconcile the two narratively but I’m not going to do that here.
I think the second era might’ve been done in order to inject more tension into the Spider Marriage and in fairness, it did work. It was dramatic.
But I personally prefer the second era much more as it portrays a clear character arc. As a bonus I should mention that, since it diverged from Spider-Man continuity in the late 1990s, in Spider-Girl MJ and Felicia’s relationship continued to develop in a friendly manner to the point where Felicia would pay Mj a visit in her office and the pair would chat about their daughters and their mutual problems. In MJ’s case a difficult pregnancy and in Felicia’s her rebellious daughter who wasn’t fond of her same sex partner.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
To bring this right around to your OP, the scenes of friendship have more or less happened in canon and in stories that are pseudo canon.
*Bear in mind this was the same decade where Sabertooth participated in the infamous Mutant Massacre storyline where he and his peers mass slaughtered a bunch of defenceless mutants. Readers knew he was no pushover.
**Because you see according to Joe Quesada, Steve Wacker, Dan Slott et al Mary Jane was clearly not dating Peter at this time and I think we’ve all brought groceries to our ex’s apartment (that we own a key to) in order to make them breakfast in bed. It’s the single most platonic gesture possible.

do you have any morbius comic recs?
Thanks for asking. Morbius’ first appearance & origin was in ASM #101-102. If you want something not super emo, I’d suggest Venom: The Enemy Within, Punisher Vol. 8 #11-16, Legion of Monsters Vol. 2, & Morbius the Living Vampire Vol. 2.
If you want something that’s very 90′s, read Morbius the Living Vampire Vol. 1 & Maximum Carnage.
If you want to get deeper, there’s a reading list under the cut.
Morbius has appeared in about 200 comics. This is not all of them (’cause some are terrible/confusing/insignificant). These are more or less in chronological order. Old comics are more sad/serious and new comics are more silly/fun.
Important/fun comix are in a bigger font. But like literally just read whatever sounds good.
Warning for blood, violence, attempted suicide, suicidal thoughts, hallucinations.
ASM #101-102Morbius’ first appearance & the first rendition of his origin.Parts 2-3/3 of the Six Arms Saga.
Marvel Team-Up Vol. 1 #3-4Spidey needs Morbius’ blood, but he doesn’t want to give it up.
Old supernatural stories:
Vampire Tales #1-5 (a, a, e, a, b story) #7-8 (a, b story) #10-11 (a, a story)It’s, you know, tales about vampires. Morbius meets many women.
Adventure into Fear #20-31Morbius fights weird monsters.
Early villain/anti-hero stuff:
Marvel Premiere #28This was the first appearance of the Legion of Monsters. The first team (not really a team) was made of Morbius, Ghost Rider, Man-Thing and the Werewolf-By-Night.
Marvel Preview #8 (a story)A flashback where Morbius tries to find a cure. He talks to an old friend with secrets of their own.
Marvel Two-In-One #15Morbius fights the Thing and goes to another planet.

MtLV Vol. 1 #5-8Morbius fights monsters. Then he accidentally takes drugs.TW FOR DRUGS & HALLUCINATIONS.
Doctor Strange: Sorcerer Supreme #52Stephen is like oh no my gay senses are tingling. My BFF Morbius is high right now.Same TW.
MtLV Vol. 1 #9Same TW.
Doctor Strange: Sorcerer Supreme #53Same TW.
There’s some Midnight Sons & Nightstalkers one-shots here, idk.
Then Maximum Carnage happens. It’s 14 issues long & he’s in parts 7-11 + 14. It’s pretty good.
MtLV #10-11Morbius somehow turns someone else into a vampire and they try to kill him.
MtLV #12Part 5/6 of Midnight Massacre.
Ghost Rider/Blaze: Spirits of Vengeance #13Part 6/6 of Midnight Massacre.
MtLV #13-15Someone comes back to life.
There’s some Seige of Darkness stuff here, but that shit’s like 31 parts long so I’m not talking about it.

MtLV #18-32Morbius has demons in his blood & fake dies a bunch.
Spider-Man Vol. 1 #77-80Morbius tries to cure himself & fights Spider-Man. HYDRA captures him.
Strange Tales: Dark Corners (b story)Morbius misses Martine. It’s kinda sad.
Blade Vol. 2 #2-3Morbius, still sad about Martine, tries to help her family. Ends in an unresolved cliffhanger, which sucks. But Blade is there, which is good.
Peter Parker: Spider-Man #8Morbius is in a box. He escapes and… just runs away I guess. Blade is also there.
Amazing Fantasy Vol. 2 #17 (b story)I legit can’t tell if this is canon or not, because the things that happen here are literally never mentioned again? It’s kind of sad though.
Spider-Man Family Vol. 2 #5Morbius steals Stephen’s powers in an attempt to save the life of one of his friends.
Legion of Monsters: Morbius (a story)Morbius tries to withdraw from blood. Not a super good story, but it exists.(Would suggest also reading other Legion of Monsters character one-shots. I enjoyed the Man-Thing’s comic.)
Marvel Zombies:
Marvel Zombies 3 #1-4Morbius joins ARMOR and makes sure the zombie universe doesn’t infect the 616. I think it was a nice story.TW FOR GORE & ZOMBIE STUFF.
Marvel Zombies 4 #1-4More zombie stuff. I think some of the Midnight Sons are there. Not as good though.Same TW.
Marvel Zombies 5 #1-2, 5Morbius was minor. More zombie stuff. Ends with Morbius getting arrested, though nothing actually seemed to happen after. However, this whole comic was like the Exiles but with zombies and not as good, so I kind of enjoyed it by itself.Same TW.
ASM Vol. 1 #622 (a story)Spider-Man isn’t the only one looking for Morbius.
Monster Metropolis:
Punisher Vol. 8 #11-16Dark Avenger Daken chops Frank up into little pieces. Morbius stitches him up like a pseudo-Frankenstein, and in return, Frank helps with Monster Metropolis, where Morbius lives as a member of the Legion of Monsters. (The team is Morbius, Werewolf-By-Night, N’Kantu the Living Mummy, Manphibian, & the Man-Thing.)
Deadpool Team-Up #894It’s funny.
Franken-Castle #17, 21A continuation of Punisher. Frank is fucked up from the fight. Morbius gives him the Bloodstone to heal. Would suggest reading #18-20 for Frank.
Legion of Monsters Vol. 2 #1-4Monsters are being hunted down and killed again. The Legion of Monsters plans to stop it.
Morbius at Horizon:
ASM #671, 679.1Morbius works undercover at Horizon (Peter Parker’s workplace) to find a cure. Also Spidey’s like, super angry lmfao.
ASM #688-691The Lizard is on the loose, and Morbius is trying to create something that will turn the Lizard back into Dr. Connors as well as cure him of vampirism. Then Spider-bootlicker arrests them both.
ASM #698-699.1Doc Ock mind swaps with Spidey; Peter, now in a dying body, escapes the Raft – giving Morbius an opportunity to escape as well.
Morbius the Living Vampire Vol. 2 #1-9Morbius travels to a new city after escaping. He kills people, makes friends, & teams up w/ Superior Spidey (Doc Ock). Pretty good.
Most recent stuff:
Domino Vol. 3 #7-8Morbius is in a box again because some vampires kidnapped him. Domino’s team intercepts the box.
Avengers Vol. 8 #12This is his most recent appearance. He is now an Agent of Wakanda.
2022 edit:
Absolute Carnage: Lethal Protectors #2-3Morbius helps Venom fight the Carnage takeover.
Morbius #1-5Morbius drastically mutates himself.
Morbius: Bond of BloodA one-shot that shows Morbius’ heroic side. It recaps his origin story.
ASM Vol. 5 #77, 78, 92, 92.BEYMorbius gets involved with Spider-Man and the Lizard yet again.

THERE IS NOW A PART 2
Because my brain refuses to let go of this crossover idea just yet. Enjoy!
-Spiders-
The next time Miles visits, his watch is repaired, and Peter is back in Queens. They swing around together for a while (which is awesome), stop a gang fight (which is even better), and then (best of all), hang out on a rooftop eating take-out pizza. That’s also when Peter finally gets to talk about his own universe in depth, several details of which apparently keep throwing Miles for a loop.
(“Wait, hold on, are you seriously telling me your Iron Man isn’t James Rhodes?”)
It’s a fun night.
To make it even better, before Miles has to go, he and Peter pose together for a selfie taken on the latter’s phone. Said photo is then passed along to Ned, who - after suitably spazzing out - uploads it to the ‘official’ Spider-man twitter account. The caption attached reads: Turns out the multiverse is a Thing, and Other Spidey has much better fashion sense than me!
“You sure you aren’t gonna get in trouble for this?” Miles asks, pressing the right sequence of buttons on his watch to get home.
“Are you kidding? It’s not like anyone pays attention to our stuff - everybody thinks it’s just another cosplay account.”
Well... Peter turned out to be wrong about that, but it didn’t come up until the next day.
-Spiders-
“So it turns out the ‘multiverse is a thing’, huh?”
Wincing, Peter can’t do more than offer his mentor a sheepish grin. “Uhh... I can explain?”
Tony gives him a thoroughly unimpressed look. “Yeah, I think you’d better.”
-Spiders-
Miles visits twice more by himself before Gwen shows up again too. She seems, if not completely at ease, then at least better than when she’d first met Peter. He picks up on how Miles keeps shooting her worried glances, and tries to avoid talking about himself too much.
Which, is pretty easy, because once she starts sharing details he really wants to hear more about Gwen’s universe.
(“Let me get this straight-” he says. “Potts Industries is owned by Pepper, who is Iron Woman, and run by Rhodey, her CEO, and it’s Tony Stark who’s War Machine? What. The Heck.”
“You think that’s cool, I can’t wait to tell you about Jennifer Walters and Peggy Carter.”)
They briefly swing by Peter’s apartment to grab hoodies and sweatpants, in order to enter a grocery store to get a tub of Neapolitan ice cream and a package of plastic spoons. Then it’s back to the rooftops, hurrying to find a good spot to settle and eat before their frozen dessert melts.
“So dude,” Miles says at one point, leaning past Gwen to get another spoonful of chocolate and strawberry. “You have an MJ yet?”
Peter just about chokes. “Do I- gah- what?”
Gwen arches an eyebrow at the other boy. “Did you tell him he was married in other universes?”
“Yeah.”
“Just not to who.”
“Well, I wanted to find out if she was around here yet or not.”
By that point, Peter’s recovered enough to wave his hands in a hold the heck up gesture. “Whoa, wait, does that- are you saying what I think you’re saying?!”
“~MJ and Peter, sittin’ in a tree, K-I-” Whack. “Ow! Gwen!”
“That’s enough outta you, ya dork.”
Apparently, not only were most adult versions of Peter married to MJ, but in some of the universes Gwen had been to, they even had kids.
“May and Ben, of course,” she tells him when Peter starts to ask about their names. “And I’m not saying any more than that, because the details about them really vary from one place to another.”
“That’s... still. Thanks.”
“No prob. So, you wanna come visit one of us next time?”
“Can I?!”
(He can, and he does.)
-Spiders-
After about a month of back and forth visits, Peter is of a mind to think he’s learned all there is to know about his new, alternate-universe friends. Then he meets Officer Jefferson Davis by accident when hanging out with Miles (and boy, listening to his friend put on the ‘deeper so it has to be older, obviously’ voice is flat out hilarious), which leads to talking more about his deceased uncle Aaron.
And of course, that particular name drop is way too big of a coincidence, so Peter does some snooping back home.
The next time his friends drop in, summoned by an semi-emergency beep from the blue button on Peter’s fob, he all but tackles them with his news. “There is a six year old version of Miles in this universe.”
They both stare at him. Then Gwen rips off her mask, revealing the most evil grin Peter has ever seen on anyone. And she aims it right at Miles. “Dude.”
He immediately brings up a hand, index finger pointed directly at her nose. “No.”
“Dude-!”
“Absolutely not-”
“-Miles, we have to-”
“-have to my butt! We so are not-”
(Spoiler alert. They so are.)
“He’s adorable,” Gwen cries, leaning halfway over the fire escape railing to get a better look.
“I don’t care if he’s the cutest to ever cute,” Miles grumbles, “I am not comfortable with spying on my own family.” Nevertheless, he too keeps glancing in through the window, watching younger versions of his parents have dinner with itty-bitty six year old Miles, all three of them chatting and laughing together.
Peter, in the meantime, is pretty proud of himself. “Aw, c’mon, dude, there’s no harm in one peek. And hey! Just think, in another eight to ten years, there could be a second Spider-man in this universe too!” Both the others shoot him wide-eyed looks, and Peter mentally rewinds his words before paling. “That. Um. I could’ve said that better.”
“Yeah, ya could’ve,” Gwen tries to chuckle. “How about, let’s just say, a decade from now you could be mentoring a second Spider-kid. Better?”
“Much, much better.”
-Spiders-
Inevitably, Miles and Gwen have to meet Ned and MJ. And of course, it goes nothing like what Peter anticipated.
To start, the first thirty seconds are just the pair of multiverse travelers starting at Peter’s sort-of girlfriend. “Uhhh, guys?”
Gwen is the first to blink, and she immediately slants her gaze to their fellow Spider. “Um, are you sure this is Mary Jane Watson?”
Then it’s Peter and Ned’s turns to stare, whereas the third member of their trio just raises her eyebrow. “My name’s Michelle Jones.”
Miles frowns. “But, you’re still MJ?”
“I’m still MJ. Around here, I’m the only MJ.”
“...huh.”
Apparently, something Peter had not picked up on during his visits to Miles and Gwen’s respective universes, was the difference in name and appearance between his MJ and those of other Earths.
“I’ve thought about dying my hair red,” she remarks, once the others finish explaining. “But pure caucasian? Overrated.”
Gwen cracks a smile at that. Miles isn’t far behind her, and soon enough the five teens are relaxed and chatting happily.
(“Peter, we have got to get you a Spider-cave. As your Guy in the Chair, I insist.”
“Well, kinda need a backyard, first...”)
“We’re gonna do this again sometime, right.” MJ phrases her question as a statement when Gwen and Miles are getting ready to go, something which causes absolutely none of them to bat an eye.
“Of course we are,” the other girl answers, turning on her watch, before pausing. “Hey, Michelle? You play guitar by any chance?”
Both Peter and Ned’s eyebrows shoot up when their friend shrugs. “I’ve fooled around a bit on my mom’s old one, but not too seriously. Why?”
“Well, if you ever find and have a chance to befriend this world’s Gwen Stacy, you might ask if she plays the drums or not...”
“What happened to ‘every universe is different’, Gwanda?” Miles asks. Gwen then puts a hand to his face and shoves the boy through their portal. “Ack!”
“See ya later, guys.”
The trio call their own goodbyes, and when the portal fades, Peter casts a nervous glance at his friends. “So? What’d you think of them?”
“I meant what I said, Parker,” MJ replies. “We’re doing this again sometime.”
-Spiders-
Meeting his own other, older self is... odd.
“Geez, I do not remember ever being this short,” Mister Parker mutters, looking Peter up and down. “Or well-geared - seriously, is this circuitry-?”
“Um, yeah. My first suit was, well, definitely homemade, and not all that good - but then I met Mister Stark and he made this one for me-”
“Stark? As in Tony Stark?” The man looks surprised. “Is he still alive in your universe?”
And just like that, a wave of cold fear washes over Peter so fast he’s left dizzy and practically shaking. “W-what do you mean?”
“That man drank himself to death years ago; no ‘Iron Man’ where I’m from, unfortunately. Stark Industries didn’t stop making weapons until afterward, when his daughter took over with her clean energy initiatives.” Mister Parker seems to finally notice how pale Peter’s gone. “Hey, kid, do you need to sit down? You don’t look so good...”
He does, in fact, sort of just collapse right there on the rooftop, and his older counterpart winds up needing to call Miles over to take Peter home. Cutting their first meeting short is a shame, because Peter had come with a bunch of questions pre-prepared, but hearing about Tony just kinda... empties all the wind from his sails.
Back in his own universe, he shakily sends Miles away, promising to call for a ride rather than attempt to swing home. And there is something to be said for how clearly out of sorts he sounds right now, because one phone call is all it takes to summon Tony to come get him. A few minutes of waiting later, Iron Man zooms into sight and touches down.
His mentor steps out of the suit, and Peter immediately jumps up to grab him in a hug.
Thankfully, Tony realizes this isn’t the time for questions, and just holds him back for a while, until the trembling stops. “C’mon, kid, let’s get you home.”
-Fin!-
(There is also a Part 3 in the works, which will introduce more Spider fam members from various sources because I feel like it.)

@nyodrite: You know. Now that I am thinking of the different versions of Spider-Man I can't help but think of Tom as the Spider-son the "baby", Andrew as the "teenager" and Tobey as the "adult"
Nyodrite: ...and kind want all three in one fic where they are a trio of spider-people. Like an au where Tobey is maybe a bit older and they are his kids? (though how they're all named Peter Parker idk)
@owlgirl1998: DO IT
Owlgirl: Peter Parker the 1st, the 2nd and the 3rd
Owlgirl: 1 goes by Peter, one goes by Parker and one goes by Pete
Nyodrite: Or maybe "Peter Parker" is kind of it's own title to inherit along with "Spider-Man"?
Nyodrite: Like maybe when Tobey first finds out he's going to be a dad he somehow manages to make "Peter Parker" a false identity while he changes his name from Peter to Tobey
Owlgirl: Okay
Nyodrite: And when Andrew then Tom become heroes they also become "Peter Parker"
Nyodrite: Also. Imagine Tobey radiating Disapproval™ when Tom meets Tony Stark and the whole Iron Dad shenanigans (he is in no way threatened by his son's idol taking a parental interest in the boy)'
Owlgirl: YES
Nyodrite: Or when Andrew meets and befriends Deadpool (because I alwawys picture him as the one to meet Wade)
Nyodrite: It's kind of like the Flash family of Young Justice
Nyodrite: By the time Tom takes up the mask, Tobey is basically retired
Owlgirl: Omg Andrew meeting Wade, the Shenanigans™
Nyodrite: Also. Andrew and Tom referring to themselves as Spiderlings because they're dorks who think it's cool
Nyodrite: Andrew meeting Wade, going along with Taco Tuesdays and Tobey eventually investigating what his son is doing and realizing he befriended Deadpool.
Nyodrite: Wade trying to make a good impression and being over the moon about meeting the Original Spider-Man (though he is loyal to Spidey and DatAss™)
Owlgirl: *grabby hands*
Nyodrite: omg TOM meeting Wade tho, Tom thinking Wade is really cool and Wade kinda enamored with this smol, excitable spider-baby
Nyodrite: But can you imagine if Tom got into trouble here? Like ther are TWO other Spider-Mans who will come for him, plus Deadpool (and possibly Daredevil because I am a fan of Team Red) along with Iron Dad and whoever Tony calls in.
Nyodrite: Like. Kidnapping Tom would be the stupidest - and last - mistake anyone makes.
Owlgirl: Tom is the best protected superkid in the world
Nyodrite: BUT WHAT IF TONY STILL TAKES TOM WITH HIM AGAINST CAPTAIN AMERICA IN THE CIVIL WAR!?!
Nyodrite: Disapproving Tobey and Protective Older Brother Andrew are not pleased.
Nyodrite: What if meeting the Spider family gives Tony the idea to train Harley Keener as his legacy? Because Tom deserves a super-friend his age and Tony a son he doesn't have to compete for.
Owlgirl: Uhhhh. Dot. YES
Nyodrite: I kinda want BH6 to be involved because Tony would so take Tobey having TWO successors as a challenge. Also. Harley, Hiro and Tom being friends (and nerds or Sciencelings) together.
Owlgirl: Fuck
Nyodrite: Tadashi and Andrew becoming friends and commiserating over their reckless little brothers.
Owlgirl: YES
Nyodrite: At some point Hiro will be a little shit, don his armor and go up to Iron Man and be "I am you, but better".
Owlgirl: The Good Stuff
Nyodrite: I'm thinking that Andrew and Tom inherit their spider powers. And maybe Andrew is slightly stronger while Tom is more flexible?
Owlgirl: Sounds good
Nyodrite: Maybe Andrew also has better instincts/spider-sense then Tom and thus refuses Tony's offer of an upgrade (when he realizes that Tom has an older brother that is also Spider-Man)
Nyodrite: (I think Tony would believe that there were only two Spideys. Mentor and successor. He thought, because of Andrew, that Tom was older {from 17-20ish} instead of the actual 15)
Nyodrite: Anyway. I say that Tom has better resources - because of Tony - an more backup (maybe even a team??) while Andrew is better at solo-ing or partnerships
Nyodrite: Better at fighting and maybe even more spider-like? (because I do love those fics)
Owlgirl: That sounds good
Nyodrite: OMG Venom is a thing in this verse. Imagine though, Venom going after Andrew, no no, Venom going after TOM
Owlgirl: How dare you
Nyodrite: Also Imagine Tobey telling them stories about Uncle Ben and Aunt May, no I guess that May might still be alive but really olde, like Andrew and Tom visit her in a retirement home or something old
Nyodrite: I kind of see Wade getting on fantastically with Aunt May, visiting her in her retirement home and showing no remorse about gossiping about what her nephew and great nephews - who STILL believe she has no idea about this Spider-Man business - are getting up to
Owlgirl: Wade and Aunt May, the ultimate BROTP
Nyodrite: Andrew paying a surprise visit and finding May and Wade having their biweekly tea and gossip
Nyodrite: "ABORT ABORT ABORT" his spider-sense screams at him
Nyodrite: Tom commiserating over it because his spider-sense did the same thing when he stumbled upon Tobey and Tony talking together about safety measures for superhero minors

12. Alien technology and human grudges
Of course I know there weren’t many things Peter could have done, but come on, leaving in the middle of something like this? It was..unfathomable and as I was dragged, my the bun on top of my head, to the middle of the room with a gun pressed to my head, I regretted every befriending the boy known as Peter Parker. His name was like venom in my mind as the woman who had originally been grabbed by the big grimy hands, thanked me with her eyes, her twin toddlers sobbing violently.
“Shut them up!” Rex yelled. I had made the assumption that based on their guns they were part of the whole “Vulture” thing last year.
“They’re babes. Babes cry when there are loud, obnoxious, ugly, scary men being assholes, and blowing shit up.” I snap, trying to redirect any attention from the lady and her babies to me instead. It earned a hit in the back of my head, a hard one. My vision exploded in a blur of…Red and blue? My eyes refocused and I seen Spider-Man standing in front of me.
“Now? is that any way to treat a lady?” Spider-Man asked before jumping, spinning in the air, and tackling the man with the gun. It was a quick move to start a fight and get the upper hand. I blinked a few times as I laid on the floor, rubble from explosions landing on and beside me.
When I heard a buzz I looked over to see the phone, Peter’s phone, which I had dropped earlier. I crawled over to it slowly. When I flipped it over it was still on the video of Tony and Peter , although it had restarted. I crawled over to the screaming twins. Both were girls but one sported a Spider-Man logo shirt while her sister had an Iron Man hoodie on.
“Hey, guys. You know who Tony Stark is right?” I asked earning hesitant and uncertain nods from both girls. I glance at their mum before pressing play. Both girls stopping crying to watch the video. Tony spoke to the camera while Peter anxiously looked up at him.
“Hey May! Just wante-”
“Hey! My names May!” The blonde one gasped. I was glad they weren’t focused on the fight occurring behind me. I let the watch the video over and over until the phone’s battery died 10 minutes later. Every time Tony said “Hey May.”  followed by referring to Peter as May’s nephew I heard a familiar voice speak from a memory.
“….Bad guys try to target me through hurting Aunt May..I mean…God! No! Stupid! Stupid!”
My thought train was thrown off track when I felt someone grab me and pull me up  by the collar of my shirt. I gasped as I recognized the grip of the big grimy hands. I felt metal push itself into my temple and looked up to see Spider-Man who stood in front us with his hands up in defeat.
“Make another moved, and the British Bitch gets in.” Rex said with a threatening voice. “Okay. Alright. Yo, let her go. This is about you and me, alright?” Spider-Man says. I feel tears sting my eyes as a gun is pressed to my head for the second time today. I gasp when a sharp explosion hits me in the back of the head and I am pushed to the ground landing at Spider-Man’s feet.
The heavy steps and the way Spidey’s arms stayed in the air even after I was released pointed to the man’s escape. I couldn’t stop myself as tears shook my body. Sure, 2 months ago I had wanted to kill myself, but that had been my choice….2 times since Peter left I almost unwillingly lost my life. I couldn’t help the anger I felt towards him, leaving me there to die. That’s how I had seen it, he left me to die.
“Gen…” Spider-Man said as he picked me up. I stared at him, his voice seemingly familiar as if i had heard it with out that mask on. He shakes his head and looks don at me. He swung me home and before he could leave I gave him Peter’s phone.
“Give this to Parker.. Or don’t…I-I don’t care.  I just don’t want it..” I said emotionlessly and I hadn’t realized just how  my words were slurred and just how blurry everything was. “What happened?” “As soon as the bad guys got there, Peter ran off….I could have died in there tonight and he wouldn’t have even known until..” I say this too harshly and can see Spider-Man visibly cringe.  It is as if m words slap him hard in the face as Spider-Man stumbles back at my words. He shakes his head.
“Ge-Eve… I am sure he had a reason to leave..Peter is a good kid.” Spidey says and I just scoff. “Yeah? I thought so too.” I say as tears brim my eyes. “Eve, look.” I cut him off. “Look, Spidey, you said you couldn’t be anything to me other than a friend, that even that was too dangerous..Why are you here Spider-Man?” I ask lashing out verbally. I am not just a go to when you need someone, okay?“ I honestly didn’t even know where any of it was coming from as my eyes closed and words tumbled out.
"I..We…Eve! Stop! Just stop talking! You are in shock. Turn around, lemme see your head.” I do as told. “You need stitches.” he declares and I just shake my head. “You let that man go today. Did you do that because of me? What about the others? Where are they? Spi-” Was the last thing I managed to say, my heart racing, before I passed out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Third Person P.O.V.
When Eve wakea up she is in a white hospital room. Groggily she looks around. “Shes awake, Ned go get a nurse. M.J. you go get her sister, she is in the cafeteria.” An older woman says. She was really pretty, dark brown hair with matching eyes, framed behind glasses.  Her hair in a messy pony tail an she was wearing sweats with a loose jumper. Her face was soft a warm smile set onto her lips, fine smile lines defining her age. Eve didn’t know this woman, but she felt comfortable and safe with her.
“I was looking forward to meeting you Eve, it’s unfortunate that these are the circumstances that we meet at, but that’s alright. I’m May Parker, Peter’s aunt."She holds out her hand and Eve takes it. "Ho did I get here? What happened? Why does my head hurt so much?” “You were in an accident. Spider-Man saved your life, you have a concussion and stitches from where you were attacked. You saved a mother and her twins.”
Suddenly, Genevieve remembers everything. Getting ice cream with Peter. The explosion. How Peter left.. Almost getting shot 2 times. Everything.
“Peter brought you here.” May says and Eve follows her eyes to the boy sitting across the way, his back against the wall, knees pulled up to his chest. His eyes staring into hers, dark bags heavy under his. She turns away. Her heart throbbing in her chest as tears threatened to fall.
“I’m sensing tension..What happened? What did he do? You know, hes a smart kid, he’s got a good head always has, he just messes up every now and then. He always has good intentions, Eve, he does.” May says and Eve just nods. Her eyes seeming to keep falling back on his. “He really likes you, ya know?” May says looking out to her nephew. “I probably shouldn’t tell you that, but oh well.” “Mrs. Parker?” “Please, you can call me Aunt May hun.” “A-Aunt May.. do you mind if I talk to him? Alone?” She asks, gritting her teeth at the stuttering. “Of course. Hold on.” Eve watches as May walks out. Peter stands up when he sees his aunt.
“She wants to talk to you.” He looks in the window at the girl sitting on the hospital bed. “Aunt May. I didn’t even give her a reason before I just disappeared..Did I tell you what she told me when I was in the suit?” The boy asks his aunt who just shakes her head sadly. “She can’t understand if you don’t give her something to understand hunny.” “I can’t, May..I don’ want her brought into all of this.” “I know, but when she finds out and she will, I am sure she will be able to take care of herself. She’s strong.”  Peter runs a hand over his mouth, then through his hair. All the while Eve watched. He walked in and the silence was nerve racking.
“You left me… I almost died today Peter…and you weren’t even there..” Eve says, her heavy words breaking the silence. “It’s actually been 2 days Eve..” Peter says and she has to resist the urge to slap him. “I don’t care…I almost died in an ice cream parlour full of strangers. .A-and I know Peter.” That last part made him a kind of nervous she had never seen in him. “I know you brought me here.” She says slowly. “I sort of remember it…but what if…what if it had just been a dead body in your arms?” Peter actually seems to relax at this.
“Gen..” Eve’s mind starts to replay things, trying to piece them together, but now, she cannot believe it at all. “I just…I had to tell Mr. Stark… Okay? How do you believe I left you there to die?” “You left your phone, Pete..” She says and he pulls it out from his pocket. “I know…I used a different way to contact him..That’s why the Spider guy showed up.” “Well…I don’t care…It’s going to take more than that. I almost died Peter. I almost died and where were you?” She asks. He can see where she is coming from but losing Eve is like losing part of himself. They were best friends, closer than even him and Ned and  that was honestly saying a lot.
“I…I was just…I tried..” “You weren’t there when I had a gun to my head…and…and maybe you shouldn’t even be here now..” “Gen..” “No..Pete… get it okay? You were scared..I understand because…I was scared too.” She stopped to catch her breath, taking a deep sigh she looked at Peter. Who was just open mouth staring at her, eyes wide. She quickly looked away.“Just go, okay..? I just need sometime. Please…just go..” And after staring anywhere but her with wide eyes and a shake of the head Peter Parker and his Aunt May were gone. Leaving Eve to answer all the questions M.J., Ned, and her sister  could throw at her.  After a while, they all left, including Sam who had to be forced to go home and get some decent sleep. She looked like a zombie.
Genevieve had a pretty hard time falling asleep and staying asleep that night. Maybe it was because of the shitty bed. Or the pain or the IV’s or the constant beeping of the machines. Or maybe it was because of a certain brown haired boy. Telling Peter to go away had to be the hardest thing she had done. Up until that point she had to remind herself why she was so mad. So that she didn’t text him and apologize for everything. Peter had been her best friend Up until then and letting him go was hard. But I just needed a few days to think,to understand.
If she had known how much her life would change in those few days…she never would have made him leave that night in the hospital..
She would have made him promise to always stay…
