I've put together a masterlist of all the fics that I have PDF and EPUB (e-publication format/e-book format) files for. Some of these are fics that I have read and rec'd on this blog already & some are fics that I have on my to-read list. All of the files are hosted on google drive, but EPUB files must be opened in the reader of your choice because google drive doesn't have to ability to open them.

It is mostly older fics, especially ones that are/were posted on corners of the internet that are slowly fading out of existence (especially a lot of the old archives or other sites for posting fanfic (rest in peace skyhawke archive especially, a lot of my early favorites were hosted there 🥲)). I haven’t included any fics that are posted on Archive of Our Own (or at least not that I could find), as AO3 has a feature that allows you to download any fic as a PDF, EPUB, or other file types. This is my personal list of files that I have for fics that were posted on sites that are/were being purged (LiveJournal and Fanfiction.net) or that are no longer available (inkstained fingers, skyhawke archive, etc.).

Hermione-centric and HP World Building Expansion edition

A late entry from me. Beware that this list is based on my personal preference. If you don't like the ships, remember the rule - don't like don't read. Ship and let ship!

That being said, it has been a while since the last time I've come up with a rec list. But reccing great fanfics has remained one of my greatest passion. Having decided to fully integrated myself into the Harry Potter fandom again, I'm amazed at how creative and talented the authors of this fandom are. There are a plethora of interesting ideas and premises, with various themes and genres along with inquisitive, thoughtful observation regarding the characters and the world building of Harry Potter.

Without further ado, let's dive in to my submission for today's @hprecfest prompt: fics with over 100k+ words. All the fics below are Hermione-centric (one less than the other two but still), with amazing social commentaries on the HP world and impeccable observation on the magical world, which to me are the best aspect of HP fic.

unsphere the stars by @cocoartistwrites (M, 222,827, Hermione Granger/Tom Riddle)

When you can't change time, but you can't go forward, what is left? Hermione learns how to be the protagonist of her own story.

To quote one of the bookmarks: Hermione is more than she ever was. This story is a journey of Hermione to grow, to love and to explore magic and its beauty more than she could ever be. Don't let the pairing deter you, this is no doubt one of the most memorable fanfic reading experience I have in my years of being in fandoms. Hermione and Tom are both portrayed spectacularly and thoughtfully, and the prose are some of the most poetic I've ever seen.

To sum up the whole of my reading experience, I laid on my bed and stared at the ceiling for 30 mins after reading the last chapter, completely shell-shocked.

All I could say is, if you want an astounding character arc for Hermione, with in-depth magical system and immersive world building, plus interesting OCs and breathtaking writing, then this fic is definitely for you!

2. What's Past is Prologue by ABitofWit (E, 244,611, Hermione Granger/Lucius Malfoy)

It's eight years after the war and Hermione Granger has taken a break from her career at the Ministry of Magic to compile an oral history of the conflict. She's interviewed just about everyone she can get her hands on but she wants to be thorough. And that means getting in contact with a very unwilling Lucius Malfoy.

Listen, I know the pairing is weird as fuck. I know, I had my doubt too before reading it. But the raving bookmarks convinced me to give this a chance. And boy, it was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

This fic is more than just a ship fic, it's about love and what we would do for it, the greyness of life and choices, of redemption and finding one's self worth outside of pre-existing, archaic ideas and values. It's about change and how we're never too old to learn. WPIP is everything I've ever wanted in a fic, emotional, sincere, humorous, gorgeous, sexy, steamy and sweet. Full of heart and soul.

Most of all, the development of and between Hermione and Lucius is so natural and makes a lot of sense, without them being OOC. This fic reminds me that Hermione is not at all flawless (the opposite of the usual Mary-Sue, little-miss-perfect trope that Hermione tends to be portrayed in fics), while successfully humanizes and makes Lucius Malfoy one of the most interesting HP characters in my eyes. (Who would have thought that I've spent years not giving a jot about this guy, only to fall in love with such a mess of a man like him??)

Combine with sharp commentaries and observations on the British Wizarding World, Wizarding politics and a not-canon folder supporting cast, this is no doubt one of the best HP fic, and one of the best fanfic I've ever had the pleasure to read.

3. Six Pomegranate Seeds by Seselt (E, 185,965, no pairing but implied Theodore Nott/Hermione Granger)

At the end, something happened. Hermione clutches at one fraying thread, uncertain whether she is Arachne or Persephone. What she does know is that she will keep fighting to protect her friends even if she must walk a dark path.

Sooo, this is one very weird fic. One of the oddest fics I've ever encoutered, in fact. I've read it twice, one before I read the book series in full, one after I've finished the books. And let me tell you, SPS is a stunning work.

The odd, floating third-person POV, the dry and sharp, straightforward tone of Hermione. Her competency, her compassion despite all the pain and the emotional repression. This is definitely not your usual time travel fix-it fic.

Most of Hermione's work happened in tandem with the 7 books' main storyline. Hermione's soul is put into the body of a young orphan Pureblood heiress. This gives the fic one of the most interesting spin on the Hermione-is-a-pureblood trope.

Through Hermione, we have a closer look into the background and the context of the main events of the books, plus a deeper understanding of the Pureblood society and a much more sympathetic view into the students Slytherin house. All without whitewashing and offsetting the corruption and the effects of the Purebloods and the Slytherins' stuffy, archaic views on not only the young generation of students but also the British Wizarding world.

I lost count of the amount of time I slapped my knees while reading this work the second time whenever I encountered a particularly sharp line of thought/commentary from Hermione in this fic. I'm also amazed at how much work and research the author has put into SPS, particularly in terms of making up tons of new magical theories and the use of exotic and lesser known vocabulary (seriously, if you decide to read this one, prepare a dictionary next to you, or get ready to regularly stop mid reading in order to look up certain words 😆)

Wilhelmina Grubbly-Plank agrees to help rebuild after the war. She's happy to do so, actually. She just wishes she could do it in a place other than that occupied by her old flame, Minerva McGonagall.

Why You Should Read It:

I have @kellychambliss to thank for turning me on to the joys of Minerva/Wilhelmina, which are on abundant display here.

This fic is such a great portrait of the aftermath of a relationship gone wrong–painful, beautiful, and just plain awkward at moments. And then the denouement... so lovely.

This Wilhelmina is wonderful–all the ambivalence is delicious. So brave with the dangerous creatures, and so not when it comes to facing Minerva.

Love Is a Battlefield

Pairing: Dudley/Firenze

"Safe As Houses" has some of my favorite elements: missing moments from canon (what happens to the Dursleys after they leave Privet Drive), nicely filled out portraits of intriguing characters we only meet briefly in canon (Hestia, Dedalus, Mundungus), and surprising but believable developments in the relationshps between some of the characters.

Sunlight in the Garden

Pairing: Alice Longbottom/Pomona Sprout

"Sunlight in the Garden" is a deeply shaded fic featuring Pomona/Alice Longbottom, with lots of bittersweetness and a finish that made me sigh in delight. I espeically love the Pomona here—she's loyal (of course) and fierce in her own quiet way. I defy you not to love her.

The Vultures of Love

Pairings: Argus/Irma, Minerva/Severus

No author summary given, but fic pairs Minerva/Severus and Argus/Irma, and shows some of Severus' interactions with his mother.

Why You Should Check It Out:

What can I say? It's perfect Minerva/Severus, as far as I'm concerned: tenderness wrapped in the unsentimental, competetive, often snide package these two make. It features a Severus who grows from uncertain young man to confident lover and a Minerva who is recognizably older, more mature, but with a touch of human insecurity. It also features a Filch who is gloriously realized as a character with all his warts intact (like Severus) but also a few surprises. We also get to meet Eileen Prince and get a hint about where Severus got some of his good and bad qualities. A nifty little twist wraps this fic up in a pretty wonderful package.

I am in love with the characterizations in this fic. I intended to read one chapter and space it out. Instead, I fell immediately for how this fic doesn't shy away from drawing out all the complications, and heartbreak, and Weasley family disapproval from their relationship. Perfect use of flashbacks to draw out the story. There's also a significant secondary Drarry plot. What more could I need?

Info: ~25.000 words / Teen & Up (mentions sex + fade to black)

Tags: Era: Hogwarts (7th Y), Coming Out/Discovering the Gay, Family Dynamics/Bonding, Friendship, Epistolary Fic, Getting Together

Note: Slight age gap, but nothing underage. When Harry was a 1st Y, Percy was a 5th Y. So there is a 4 year age gap, this fic is set in the summer Harry turns 17, i.e. comes of age, which means Percy will turn 21 that summer. He has been working for the MoM for 3 years.

Sum.: One should know better than to involve oneself in Weasley Family Skirmishes, even as a messenger. It always ends badly. …Or really well, depending on your perspective.

REC: I really liked this fic. Both Harry and Percy felt very IC, and still their developing relationship felt very believable. Also the author writes a wonderful Percy, I really connected with and felt for him throughout the fic. Her Harry figuring out he was gay was also spot on in my opinion and he is also still very much a moody teen who at times is a real little shit. Mad-Eye Moody makes a delightfully funny appearance. Also Arthur trying really hard to be a father figure for Harry was a brilliant scene, beautiful and so awkward. The author beautifully weaves canon into the fic, she doesn't just ignore the Weasly family dynamics that was set in the books and put Percy at odds with his family, but she manages to show both sides. The way the author wrote the story was brilliantly, I have a soft spot for stories told, through letters - in this instance it is a combo of letter writing and a narrative story.

If you want to give this ship a go to see if it works for you, I think this is a good fic to begin with. It stays close to canon, but with a slight shift that makes Harry/Percy not only possible, but also believable.

Okay this time I did look for slightly older fics! I read both of these a while ago and ngl, they're two incredible rarepairs which I honestly need more of.

The Roses Bleed Both Light and Dark by LaDonnaErrante (2290 words)

This is an Arabella Figg/Marlene McKinnon oneshot! It's the only fic in that relationship tag on AO3 and it was posted in 2013. It's rated Teen, with an archive warning for Graphic that I don't think really applies. Four brief moments of Arabella's and Marlene's relationship, ending in the Mckinnon family's murder. (So a tag for MCD is warranted).

I love this fic mainly because it really proves how little we know about a lot of the 'marauders' era characters (Marlene is often written in the marauders era, but we really know nothing about her, including her age! She could be as old/young as you want her to be). Even so, Marlene in this fic has the leather jacket a lot of modern fanon still associates with her and I love that honestly.

It's also just a wonderful look at the first war, with plenty of angst both surrounding being gay in the 1970s and the obvious character death. I'd love to think that this romance is in the back of Arabella's mind still when we see her in canon.

Abydos by Leela (1605 words)

This is a delightful Rolanda Hooch/Narcissa Malfoy oneshot, which is a ship that's a whole four times as popular as Arabella/Marlene. It was published in 2012, the first fic for this pairing on AO3! Rated teen, no archive warnings. Quick and gorgeous read.

It's written from Rolanda's point of view and consists of a lot of small moments that span both wizarding wars. I love the melancholy of it all, which isn't really toned down at all even when the ending is actually a little happy. It's just such a good vibe all throughout. It has a simple magic ritual, a very very longlasting love despite everything that happens, and just a beautiful look at a pretty overlooked character!

HP Rec Fest 2023 - Day 9: A Rare Pair Fic

I'm veryyyyy late for this fest but I would like to bring attention to this wonderful rarepair fic that I've discovered recently.

Does He Love You by greyditto (E, 9921, Bellatrix Lestrange/Lucius Malfoy)

Summary:

“Blessed nirvana and an agonising purgatory are rather like opposite sides of the same Galleon, aren’t they?” For Bellatrix Lestrange, surviving Azkaban prison was nothing in comparison to the complexities that descend immediately after her escape to Malfoy Manor. The forbidden and demanding urges of a blood bond, the twisted reality of who she’s bound with, and the reality of keeping the secrets that surround the entire thing, are complications that she can no longer ignore. But worst of all are the feelings that surface as a result of being faced with the consequences of her own actions.

Reason to read: This is such an unusual couple, yet this fic left me wanted for more. Their power dynamics is so intriguing, and their interactions are laced with heady tension and passion. The desperation, the yearning, the hate and the obsession between Lucius and Bellatrix is so palpable and thick that I could cut it with a knife.

So if you want to see a different take into Bella/Lucius relationship then I highly recommend this fic!

HP Rec Fest, Day 4

As a big enthusiast of HP art I couldn’t be more excited about today’s prompt from @hprecfest. In my experience, the fic + art combo always feels like a special treat and makes the reading experience all the more immersive and magical. If you’re a Drarry fan make sure to check the HD Big Bang Fest which brings amazing collabs between writers and artists. I was hard pressed to rec my all-time fave A Sword Laid Aside by @korlaena with stunning artwork by @saulaie, but in the spirit of reccing new, lesser known works I’ve picked 2 Drarry fics and 1 rarepair. I’m so delighted to rec authors and artists I’ve admired for such a long time. Thank you all for sharing your talent with us!

this is such a cool and creative case fic, I was hooked since the start and can’t believe how CBG’s origami art only enhanced the sense of mystery and the story’s creepy, dream-like quality. brilliantly well thought and executed, I promise this will haunt you for a while!

'Twas the night before Christmas, although it’s July / Draco’s a shopkeeper, no-one knows why / There’s hiking and witch caves, freak snowfalls and more / Bad Christmas jumpers, nosy neighbours galore / Narcissa’s here too, but… something’s amiss / And what’s in those chocolates that’s making them kiss?

WUS is one of my 2023 favorites but for some reason it remains criminally underrated so I’m here to invite you to embrace the Christmas spirit and go read this sweet story asap. I adore this charming and quirky shop owner Draco, watching Harry fall for him was such a treat. Just like the story, Joy’s art is rich, creative and tender, with layers of soft angst expertly woven underneath 🤌🏼

The NottPott Chronicles by @amarillis39 and @missmrah (E, 35k, ongoing) - Harry/Theo

A series of moments from Theo and Harry’s lives as they learn to navigate their relationship, deal with their demons or just simply revel in each other’s company. Every story can be read as a stand-alone.

this luxurious series is a feast to the eyes and an absolute rarepair classic in my opinion; a must read to all NottPott fans or those curious about the ship like myself. I was immediately sold on this hot tattooed power couple being sexy & tender across a series of deliciously intimate slice of life vignettes.

Happy new year!! This is the last post for the @hprecfest daily prompts for which I'll be reccing fic, so the complete list of Tomarrymort daily recs for this month is listed in its entirety below! The 31st prompt is "a fav amongst favs", which I am physically incapable of narrowing down to a handful of fics, so I'll just end on Day 30 🤍

Reconciling with Death by Madame_Psychosis (M, 26k, complete)

Summary: Featuring a dead girl in a forest, little-soldier-boys, some tenuous grasps on reality, straw mothers, a ghost in a bathroom and, slowly and sadly, kindness from a boy who’s just passing through time. Why I rec it for this prompt: A really unique take on Harry travelling back in time to 1941 to Tom's school days. I love the non-linear style that this fic is written in, which really enhances the build-up of the murder mystery and all the psychological suspense.

Summary: In limbo, Harry doesn't choose to go back to the Forbidden Forest to face Voldemort. He makes another decision and finds himself in a baby's body: little Tom Riddle. Years pass that intimately bind the orphan and his imaginary friend into a hopeless and incestuous relationship. Indeed, all the odd events of Tom Riddle's life happen in spite of Harry's presence: could he be the one who provokes them? Why I rec it for this prompt: Another unique take on Harry being sent back in time, this time as a disembodied voice in Tom's head as the most important part of his journey from childhood to when he becomes Lord Voldemort. An incredible exploration on what it means for two souls to love each other so intensely, and the ending is absolutely gutting in a beautiful way. Definitely have tissues on hand for this long, beautiful, angsty read!

Oh boy, this is gonna be my longest submission for the @hprecfest to date. Buckle up my friends, the road ahead will be teary with little to no sunshine and rainbows. HEA is not guaranteed, though one has a little more hopeful ending than the others (I'll let you guess which one 👀)

I take absolutely no responsibility for the possible heartache you feel after reading my recs.

*Most of the fics below are rareships , all but the first one.

1. Seven Minutes by starkidsftw (T, 60,588, Hermione Granger/Draco Malfoy)

They say after you die, your brain stays alive for seven minutes. And in those seven minutes, you live your entire life over again. When Draco Malfoy's seven minutes arrived, he did relive his life: his experiences, his mistakes, his memories. But most importantly, he relived being with her. He relived hating her, loving her, and then ruining it forever.

A Dramione 6th year AU, how typical. But my breath was taken away with how beautiful and poetic the writing was, how in-character both Draco and Hermione were as well as how believable their journey from enemies to lovers was.

This fic is Draco-centric, though the romance is one of the key parts in it. Seven Minutes explored Draco's thoughts and actions throughout the fateful sixth year at Hogwarts with great care and consideration, never shying away from the more unsavory aspects of his personality unlike many Hogwarts Dramione fics.

Draco, through the exceptional crafting of the author, appeared as both sympathetic and pathetic, yet very human and understandable.

After reading it the first time, I immediately reread it while listening to Dumbledore's Farewell OST, crying my eyeballs out.

The author of this one has several much more popular Dramione fics and in fact has an ao3 account, but SM remains one of the finest Dramione fic I've ever read.

2. Beauty and the Beast by @metalomagnetic (M, 21,209, Bellatrix Lestrange/Voldemort)

Whenever Voldemort sees beauty, he wants to destroy it. Bellatrix Black endures.

As I said to dear @metalomagnetic on Discord: "Your fic destroyed me." Who would have thought that one day, I would read a Bellamort fic, getting choked up over their tragic tale at work?

Through the masterful stroke of the author, Bellatrix Lestrange became much more multidimensional and fascinating. More than just a sadistic and insane femme fatale, Bella in BatB loved strongly, felt deeply and had had her heart broken. She was devoted to what she believed in, in this case her freedom to live outside of the strict Pureblood ideals for women, and Voldemort.

Voldemort, as always, shined in the hands of metalomagnetic. He was absolutely unapologetic, unhinged, with wrapped views and formidable presence. To witness his spiral downward first hand was both tragic and mesmerizing.

So please, if you could get over your misgivings about JK's terrible portrayal of Bellamort in canon (and *cough* CC *cough*), give this fic a try. You won't regret it.

3. Tiveden by NoFootprintsInSand (M, 1,594, Hermione Granger/Tom Riddle | Voldemort)

Hope tastes like copper.

There's a reason why despite not rereading this fic for a while now, I could still remember everything in it vividly. Two people got stranded together in the middle of nowhere is a common trope. But this fic went above and beyond to deliver one of the most agonizing and sorrowful twist to it.

To quote one of the comments: He had nothing to live for and she had everything to die for. Like the summary, this fic left a bitter, coppery aftertaste on your tongue after reading.

4. I Think I Know Enough of Hate (1,392) and This Living Hand, Now Warm and Capable (1,287) by NoFootprintsInSand (M, Hermione Granger/Lucius Malfoy)

Just getting into Lumione since July, but whenever I'm in the mood for a good punch in the gut, I would immediately go to these two oneshots.

NoFootprintsInSand is a master in weaving beautifully haunting and bittersweet tales, and these two are no exception.

The tragedy that is the corrupted British Wizarding Society as well as the pain of a hollow existence, of pointless conflicts and never-ending power struggle, all portrayed phenomenally through the short, sharp paragraphs and sentences.

Lucius and Hermione's relationship was both twisted and tragic, filled with so much desire and contempt, both for each other and for themselves. Yet there was something more underneath, something speak of love and concern but at the same time not. Whatever it was, it made them cling to one another, wrapping up in a tangle of love and hate and obsession.

Each word and phrase were designed for maximum emotional effect, so unforgettable and effective that shook you to the core. The ambiguity of the fic's context added to the desperate and melancholic vibe of the oneshots.

The stories left so much up to interpretation that I've decided to write an AU WIP to explore them more on my own! (with the permission from the og writer)

By George, I'm hooked!

So a short while back, while searching for a fic featuring both human and crup George, I tagged a few people whose works I binged recently in a bid to try to recall the author. Amidst the embarrassing chaos where I tagged three guesses (before I finally found the fic written by a fourth), I figured I’d share what it is about these three authors’ writing that has me engaged so thoroughly and often. And to tie it all in a theme, I’ll drop a rec of their fics that feature George Weasley.

An assortment of delights 💝🍫

@schmem14 masterfully crafts the most delicious and unique ideas. Like a box of mystery-flavour chocolates, trying each one gives a new delightful experience of Em’s stories and interpretations of prompts, plots and pairings. And I find myself reaching for another, and another and another…

I have especially really enjoyed her collections where she takes on themes in her inimitably creative way. I’d really recommend checking out the George ones in her collections too, and for now I’ll leave you with this rec:

An immersive binge-a-thon 🎥🍿

@the-francakes' fics are such a vibe. She has me absolutely engrossed in a variety of stories; it really feels like a chill, cinematic experience. I love browsing through each enticing summary (and lovely banner!) of both old favourites and new updates. I’m always happily transported right there in the bubble of the world she’s created, rooting for the characters and absolutely flailing at the gorgeous plot, until I reach the end and float right along to the next one.

I always sink into @orange-peony's fics with the most satisfying feeling. Her fics are a pleasure to enjoy, curled up in bed with “entire work” clicked, squeeing, sobbing, smiling into a pillow. Her fics are always thrilling in their emotional rollercoaster, and never fail to warm my heart and make me just… feel with every fibre of myself. I absolutely love and crave that reading experience.

This fic is a quintessential example of that Peony experience:

Mirror, Mirror (Lee/George) (E, 22,759)

George feels a wave of relief washing over him at the thought that he still has time, that he can still get his shit together and stop feeling so utterly broken every single moment of the day, and then maybe he will be good enough for Lee. Sometimes he feels like the pain and the loss have woven through every fibre of his being, that his whole body is made out of grief, raw and wretched beyond repair. But then Lee takes his hand, or he threads his fingers through George’s hair, whispering something that George can only feel against his skin, lost words that make him shudder and reach for Lee, to feel him there and have him close. Real.

@broomsticks, leftsideisdown, Jackie, whatever you know this fabulous human as, we can all agree on "wow what a rockstar." In fact, I got so caught up in compiling some excellent fic of hers, that I nearly forgot "but wait! There's more!"

Listen, her pinned post on Tumblr alone is incredible. Look at that organization! So easy to find anything you could want to peruse on a given day! Then...the meta?? The STATS? Okay the stats meta blows my mind because I'm nerdy enough to like stat talk but allergic enough to math to have 0 comprehension of numbers. Which boils down to "please don't make me touch a number, but I'd sure love to watch you play with them!" Like...what a nerd! I say, with the utmost respect and admiration. I'm geeking out over her geeking out, I swear. But ALSO...recs!!!!! All of that on top of being a prolific and varied creator, which is rad as hell! Her brain? I love it.
