Hello friends! Recently, I participated in the fourth HP Rare Pair fest, and with 81 unique and beautiful entries it was a veritable FEAST for the eyes and heart and soul. (Check out the whole collection here)

I wanted to take a moment to post highlights of the fics that just really brought me to my knees in hopes that you’ll fangirl/boy/person over them with me!

1. Evergreen by @thecouchsofa (23k)- Harry Potter x George Weasley What would happen if Harry asked George to go to the Yule Ball with him instead of Parvati? This GOF Yule Ball AU is sure to slay you with sheer adorableness. I couldn’t stop smiling and squealing through the whole thing. This rare pair is one of my favorites, and this fic went above and beyond, plus it’s the perfect holiday read! Rating: T

2. Lonely Creatures by @apricitydays-lazynights (5k)- Severus Snape x Giant Squid The prompt to put these two together could easily have been pure hentai crack nonsense (which is a brilliant option) but this story did things to me that I can’t even put into words. It’s tender, melancholy, and cuts to the heart of Severus Snape’s isolation and longing to be seen and loved. The details of this are so richly woven, and I particularly enjoyed the authors’ focus on Mermlish/Merfolk. Standing ovation to this fic! Rating: E

3. Slice of Night by SquibNation10 (9k)- Aurora Sinistra x Severus Snape This was the fic that took me the most by surprise. I love the creativity in taking a character who gets very few canon details and making them real and beautiful and believable. Auror Sinistra is divine in this, and I’ll give some honorable mentions to both Argus Filch and Rolanda Hooch as excellent supporting characters that also don’t typcially get a lot of spotlight. What a gorgeous slice of life fic! Rating: T

3. Quick Quotes and Quibbles by RainstormRadish (3k)- Luna Lovegood x Rita Skeeter Rita and Luna have to work together to cover the wedding of Neville Longbottom and Pansy Parkinson. There’s just something about a story told in unconventional medium that will always ALWAYS pull me in! This unlikely pairing comes together in the sweetest way, their strong personalities balancing each other out until they become a formidable team. I particularly loved the graphics and paper trail memos/epistolary style storytelling. Rating: T

4. Your seat, it’s the best seat by @the-houseryn (17k)- Ron Weasley x Draco Malfoy MOVE OVER only one bed, there’s a new trope in town and it’s the ONLY ONE SEAT trope!! This was sexy, flirtatous, and hot AF. I’m always down for a Dron fic, but this one is one of the best I’ve read in a while, with some delicious pining and a predictably oblivious Ron. Do yourself a favor and indulge in the lap-sitting fic of the year! Rating: E

5. Vivaldi and Hot Chocolate by @patriceavril (6k)- Percy Weasley x Stan Shunpike What was Percy up to in OTP/HBP? What a lonely life that must have been! This fic was soft and sweet, giving some much-needed love to a character that we all wrote off in canon for being a stuck-up prick. I love how Percy seeks out the warmth and comfort of the Knight Bus, coming back for more because of the kind-hearted and bubbly Stan Shunpike, who always insists on giving Percy free hot chocolate. I never expected to be so enamoured by this pairing, but I am! Rating: T

6. The monster you feed by @ghostfelicis188 (11k)- Regulus Black x Remus Lupin This canon-compliant fic tore me to shreds. TO SHREDS. Like, I am such a simp for tragic Remus romances, and this took the cake. Features: pining artist Remus, and shit-eating cruel Regulus who toys with Remus the whole damn fic. If you like hurt no comfort, this is the fic for you. *Chefs Kiss* Rating: M

7. Gilded Web by @emilyrickman AlihotsyTotsy (8k)- George Weasley x Blaise Zabini I cannot believe that this understated fic packed such a punch in 8,000 words. George agrees to an undercover operation to investigate the mysterious deaths of Mrs. Zabini’s deceased husbands. He is so pure in this, his characterization charming and believable, I just need more of this George! Bonus points for references to “the Sting” Rating: M

8. Sleeping with Ghosts by @ghaniblue (21k)- Harry Potter x Regulus Black x Draco Malfoy My initial thoughts when encountering this relationship tag was something akin to a bewildered head scratch but OMG the best thing about this fest is having expectations completely upended! This fic slayed hard with a slow burn, found family, semi-sentient house renovation angle that had me completely melted by the end. Rating: M

9. The Last Trial of Peter Petegrew by @sleepstxtic (20 k)- Peter Petegrew x James Potter If possible, I’d like to ram this fic down the throats of all my mutuals with a plea to PLEASE READ THIS FIC. I can’t begin to describe in a tiny paragraph what this did to me. Often Peter Petegrew is relegated to the traitor bus in fandom (understandable) but this took every mean and traitorous part of his character and made me almost like him despite his treachery! The format of this was also a delight to read, and I love that Hermione presents the case for Peter Petegrew in this meta purgatory-style courtroom drama. Rating: M

10. Anatomy of a memory by @venom0usbarbie (9k)- Ginny Weasley x Tom Riddle This story was pure poetry wrapped in a sinister diary-shaped package. I love the self-fulfilling prophecy nature of this time loop style storyline, as well as the toxic obsession and manipulation played out between Ginny and Tom. What a mindfuck ending that was, too! Kudos to the “Tom Riddle is his own Warning” tag. Rating: M

11. Sweet Boy by @maraudersaffair (6k)- Narcissa Black Malfoy x Harry Potter A not-quite-fake dating fic with lots of smut, thirst, and mommy/praise kink? Yes, please! I was literally panting by the end of this, Harry and Narcissa are so hot together! Rating: E

12. Growing Suspicion by nocturn (1.8k)- Neville Longbottom x Marcus Flint Someone keeps mutilating Neville’s plants, and he’s going to get to the bottom of it OR that time Marcus expresses feelings but doesn’t understand proper plant care. This fic was A-DOR-ABLE. Love me a good Hogwarts professors/staff fic, and this was just a bite-sized delight to read. Rating: G

13. For Your Burning Gaze by SquibNation10 (22k)- Neville Longbottom x Pansy Parkinson The fic that I most want to see a sequel for award goes to… this Twilight Zone post-war marriage law fic complete with creepy house elves and a very troubled Pansy, who seems to be the only one realizing that something is not quite right! This is one of the best Panville fics I’ve read, I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Rating: E

there aren’t many rules when you are living under sirius black’s roof. sirius is the kind of person who likes to call himself a ‘free spirit’ and would probably rather cut off his own tongue than restrict the liberty of his teenage godson. but one of the few rules that do apply under sirius black’s roof is ‘don’t bring people home without me knowing’.

and that is precisely why remus lupin sits at the kitchen table, eyeing the staircase that leads to harry’s room, wondering how exactly the boy is going to smuggle the person that had spent the night out of the house.

the invisibility cloak was resting useless, draped over the living room’s couch and remus knows harry would not be foolish enough to try and apparate through the house wards. that left the front door and floo connection.

all in all, watching the teenager run down the stairs to retrieve a pair of abandoned purple trainers and shoot him a pleading look had been quite funny. remus winked.

he also had to admit that pushing whoever-was-with-him into the chimney before pretending to have a very loud floo-call was not a bad move at all.

later, when sirius is out of earshot, harry approaches him with a scowl.

“you could have helped, you know!”

remus shrugs “we live and die by our choices”

Brave

Sirius leaned against the wall as Remus joined him and offered him his bottle of beer. Sirius took a swig and slid his arm around Remus’s waist as he surveyed the scene. It was the usual Weasley chaos at the Burrow, where they were gathered for Fred and George’s birthday. Fred was entertaining the assembled group with a new product from the shop but George was nowhere to be found.

“Who gets to be the brave one to find out where Harry and George are hiding?” Remus murmured in Sirius’s ear.

Sirius chuckled. “Eh, let them be. They’re not bothering anyone.”

“It’s only a matter of time before Molly looks for them,” Remus pointed out.

Sirius nodded toward the window. “I’d bet on the broom shed.”

“You’re probably right,” Remus said, taking his beer back. “Remind you of anyone?”

Nowhere in Draco's job description does it state that because he's an Unspeakable, he's skilled enough to retrieve Ronald Weasley (or anyone) from beyond the Veil. But when Potter gives him no other options but to join him in this literal death-defying endeavour, Draco does exactly that. If only finding Ron had been the hardest task.

By George, I'm hooked!

So a short while back, while searching for a fic featuring both human and crup George, I tagged a few people whose works I binged recently in a bid to try to recall the author. Amidst the embarrassing chaos where I tagged three guesses (before I finally found the fic written by a fourth), I figured I’d share what it is about these three authors’ writing that has me engaged so thoroughly and often. And to tie it all in a theme, I’ll drop a rec of their fics that feature George Weasley.

An assortment of delights 💝🍫

@schmem14 masterfully crafts the most delicious and unique ideas. Like a box of mystery-flavour chocolates, trying each one gives a new delightful experience of Em’s stories and interpretations of prompts, plots and pairings. And I find myself reaching for another, and another and another…

I have especially really enjoyed her collections where she takes on themes in her inimitably creative way. I’d really recommend checking out the George ones in her collections too, and for now I’ll leave you with this rec:

An immersive binge-a-thon 🎥🍿

@the-francakes' fics are such a vibe. She has me absolutely engrossed in a variety of stories; it really feels like a chill, cinematic experience. I love browsing through each enticing summary (and lovely banner!) of both old favourites and new updates. I’m always happily transported right there in the bubble of the world she’s created, rooting for the characters and absolutely flailing at the gorgeous plot, until I reach the end and float right along to the next one.

A familiar comfort 😌💙

I always sink into @orange-peony's fics with the most satisfying feeling. Her fics are a pleasure to enjoy, curled up in bed with “entire work” clicked, squeeing, sobbing, smiling into a pillow. Her fics are always thrilling in their emotional rollercoaster, and never fail to warm my heart and make me just… feel with every fibre of myself. I absolutely love and crave that reading experience.

This fic is a quintessential example of that Peony experience:

Mirror, Mirror (Lee/George) (E, 22,759)

George feels a wave of relief washing over him at the thought that he still has time, that he can still get his shit together and stop feeling so utterly broken every single moment of the day, and then maybe he will be good enough for Lee. Sometimes he feels like the pain and the loss have woven through every fibre of his being, that his whole body is made out of grief, raw and wretched beyond repair. But then Lee takes his hand, or he threads his fingers through George’s hair, whispering something that George can only feel against his skin, lost words that make him shudder and reach for Lee, to feel him there and have him close. Real.

Please I want to know more about Harry x George

I’m sorry for not answering sooner, I’ve been busy with mock exams and an actual exam but it’s summer now, so I have the time to write this up for you! So here it is and I apologise for answering so late! :)

Now, I’m not entirely sure what you want to know, but I’m just gonna give an overview of headcanons and kinda reasons why I ship it.

- Their ship name is Firebolt. @the-bisexual-twin is the first person I saw dub them that btw.

- I think that they would have gotten close after the war, like closer than they were before.

- They either started dating around the time of the Yule Ball or a couple of years after the Battle Of Hogwarts, that’s what’s in my mind.

- George always knows when Harry needs someone there or whether he needs space.

- They love to go flying together. It’s a very way to spend a date night together other than cuddling inside together.

- George grew his hair out after the war because it made him look different to Fred (which helped sometimes with things like looking in the mirror) and he could cover the scar from his missing ear. Harry loves to play with his hair.

- Connected to the point above, Harry’s really good at doing hair.

- George’s love language is physical touch since I’ve always imagined him to be very tactile and touchy with the people he’s close to. And verbal affection. He loved telling Harry how much he loves him and gives Harry compliments all the time.

- Harry’s love language is actions and giving gifts. Harry has the money to spoil George with gifts. He also struggles with the verbally telling George that he loves him, but the little gestures that Harry makes, George understands.

- George can easily give Harry compliments, but Harry compliments him and he just goes red because he can’t handle compliments. (I’ve just always found this kind of trope funny)

- They like going down to Godric’s Hollow’s cemetery to see James and Lily’s graves together.

- Connected to the point above, they’ve caught each other talking to the graves.

- George is really good with kids and he loves them and Harry enjoys watching George with Teddy cause he finds it adorable.

- Harry’s obviously bisexual but didn’t realise it until shortly before he got with George (whether is was the Yule Ball or after the war)

- George is bisexual and had known since he was about 13/14 because damn, Oliver Wood was quite attractive, as was two of his best friends - Lee and Angelina. (To me, they’re his bi awakenings)

- Moving onto the next gen, George does not let Harry name a child after Snape or Dumbledore cause he never liked Snape and (in this AU of them dating) found Dumbledore a bit suspicious after Dumbledore ignored Harry in OOTP.

- Their first kids are twin boys who were born very close to George’s birthday so rather than celebrating his birthday on April 1st, George likes to celebrate it on the same day as the twins. (As if the twins were born on like the 2nd or 3rd of April or something)

Another year, another birthday! Normally I don’t draw much attention to it, but it’s been a rough year, and I want to celebrate my surviving of it by recommending 10 works from mutuals that live in my head RENT FREE forever! Please enjoy them with me, and feel free to shout at me about them in the DM’s, it will make my day!

1. Devil’s Snare All The Way Down by @malpal132

Pairing: Pansy Parkinson/Neville Longbottom Rating: E This is a gorgeous Pansy Parkinson character study, spanning her younger years to post-hogwarts. She becomes reacquainted with Neville Longbottom and discovers who she’s meant to be in this slow-burn ETL.

2. Down a Hill at High Speed by @tepre

Pairing: Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy Rating: E This 8th year fic is the BEST sex-pollen trope story I’ve ever read. Period. Tepre is a genius with sexual tension.

3. May Contain Nuts by scoradh

Pairing: Harry Potter/George Weasley Rating: M This is the fic that I REFUSE TO SHUT UP ABOUT (sorry if you’ve been caught in the crosshairs.) George is trying out a new line for XXX products at the joke shop. Harry is George’s go-to for product testing. Contains found family, dubious sweets, broken George, and NUTS of course! *Note the Archive warning for MCD is in reference to Fred, I think. No Harrys or Georges are harmed in the making of this fic.

4. Savour by @mignon-chignon

Pairing: Hermione Granger/Draco Malfoy Rating: E This is just pure PWP. And all my favorite kinks. Definitely not safe for ANYTHING but a quiet room, a glass of your favorite beverage, and a favorite toy. Mind the tags.

5. Like a Brother Would by @wolfpants

Pairing: Harry Potter/Ron Weasley Rating: E This Deathly Hallows AU explores the posibility of Ron returning back to the tent that night in the Forest of Dean. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read and reread this. I’m obessed with this friends to lovers pairing, this vulnerable and delicious fic. One of the best Ronarry I’ve ever read.

6. The Luxury of a Regret by @swoontodeath

Pairing: Horace Slughorn/Regulus Black, Horace Slughorn/Sirius Black Rating: E IT’S A DEAD DOVE, FOLKS! But it is so creepy and beautiful. I CANNOT stop thinking about it. Imagine if this were canon, Slughorns obession with Harry would be THAT MUCH CREEPIER.

7. Hate, Lead the Way! by oh_black_sparrow

Pairing: Walburga Black/Orion Black Rating: E One of the Rare Pair fest 2022 stories I fell head-over-heels in love with. We know her as the shrewish shrieking portrait permanently stuck to the wall in 12 Grimmauld Place, but in this rage-filled story, she’s a force to be reckoned with.

8. Manufacturing Consent by onefiftyeight

Pairing: Lucius Malfoy/Hermione Granger Rating: E HEAR ME OUT. I don’t normally go for this pairing, but THIS FIC is deliciously sinister. A masterclass in gaslighting and manipulation. A breeding kink extravaganza. Crack at its finest. Give it a chance, I promise you won’t regret it. Mostly.

9. Hot and Bothered by @roseharpermaxwell

Pairing: Ron Weasley/Draco Malfoy, background Dramione Rating: T Who’s the better kisser? Only one way to find out… (Guys. This is reason #1 why Dron is amazing. Mic Drop.)

10. I Like Your Skirt by @the-francakes

Pairing: Ron Weasley/Harry Potter Rating: E Aside from the fact that Fran is lovely and wrote this gift for me, RON AND HARRY are SO YUMMY IN THIS!!! Dual POV, Friends to Lovers, flirting, pining and no small amount of filthy content. The epilogue chapter (bonus smut) is to die for. It will forever reside in my wank bank.

“Harry, when you have a chance could you -” Sirius said, stopping in his tracks. He hadn’t expected to find Harry and George snogging on the sofa, pressed together, legs tangled. He froze for a second, and backed out quietly and went back into the kitchen.

Remus looked up from the papers he was grading and took in Sirius’s expression. “What’s with you?”

“I just didn’t expect…” Sirius started and Remus waited, his eyebrow raised.

“Whatever is happening has rendered Sirius Black silent?” Remus teased, getting up from the table.

“Don’t go in there…they’ll think we’re spying on them.” Sirius said.

Remus laughed. “I guess they’re enjoying each others’ company then?”

“Yes.” Sirius said. “For simplicity’s sake, we just…stay in here for now.”

“The tables have turned, have they?” Remus said, pressing Sirius against the counter. “James walked in on us enough times…”

“He did, didn’t he? I dunno if we ever caught him and Lily…”

“I’m sure we did.” Remus said, kissing him. Sirius smiled into the kiss as he wrapped his arms around Remus.

A few minutes later, they heard footsteps. “Oh shit.” Harry muttered, as he went into the fridge and got two sodas. “You know, your room is literally in the house.”

Sirius leaned his head into Remus’s shoulder, trying to stifle his laughter. “You should talk.”

Harry opened his mouth to retort but closed it and turned red again. He turned on his heel and went back into the living room. Sirius gave Remus a mischievous grin. “Our room is upstairs as he so thoughtfully reminded us.”

“What do you have in mind, Mr. Black?”

“Silencing spell for sure, Moony.”

Help me find a fan fic. I read it a long time ago during my massive Harry Potter phase but anyway the basic plot was Harry was dating fred and George. After the war fred still died and George went into a massive depression and resented Harry because “it should have been him”. There was a really sad scene from fred’s funeral and Harry starts becoming friendly with I think it was Charlie (?).

Then George commits s//werslide and Harry finds him, and basically follows him in his grief while Charlie is like trying to get into the apartment to save him. It was such a sad short fic and it’s driving me insane because I can’t find it anywhere. I would have read it on either ff.net or ao3.

Any help would be welcome cause I’m losing my mind trying to find it. <3

okay so, @niconeekokneecaps and @harry-potter-rarepairs are my main accounts but I don’t want to fill them up with my fanfic content so I made a new blog to post about my own fanfics and their updates, etc.

I’ve currently got 4 WIPs and 2 rewrites to be working on, not to mention all of the chatfics I never continued from like a year ago, but I’ll get to the eventually. I’m going to make a whole different post about Safe With You because there are many OCs in that one. I will also make a separate post for Orphic. :)

My current WIPs:

Finding Out The Future (FOTF)

FOTF is set in GoF where the entire school and some guests are reacting to the 8 movies. Harry is genderbent by the name of Amaryllis (cause flower name) and eventually will end up with George. George is a werewolf cause I got bored and was thinking of the plot that could go with that.

I might write a version of FOTF where George isn’t a werewolf. I’d just have to adjust some things here and there. Anyway, at the time I’m making this post, I’ve just got past when the trio find Fluffy for the first time - Chapter 6. I will start posting it on AO3 when I have finished the first movie.

Safe With You

Safe With You is a George Weasley x Male!OC called Apollo Hale beginning in PoA. I originally had about 3 chapters written, but then decided to rewrite it so I only have 1 right now, but I’m working on it.

Apollo has a twin sister, is a Ravenclaw and is best friends with a Slytherin and a Hufflepuff.

Orphic

Another George Weasley x Male!MC. Also includes Fred Weasley x Genderfluid!OC. MC is called Corvus Black and the genderfluid OC is called Leo/Cassie Tonks. Corvus is the son of Sirius Black and is a Ravenclaw. Leo/Cassie is a Hufflepuff. :)

There is currently about 2 chapters written.

Surprise

Remus Lupin x Male!OC - OC is called Matt Ashford and is the son of a Quidditch player. 2 chapters currently written. Many OCs for Matt’s friend group.

Matt is a Ravenclaw and on the Quidditch team. Matt is a Prefect and Quidditch Captain as well. His friends are spread out through all 4 houses too. :)
