"Ghostbusters" is a song written by American musician Ray Parker Jr. as the theme to the 1984 film Ghostbusters, and included on its soundtrack. Debuting at #68 when the movie was released, the single slowly climbed the Billboard Hot 100 for nearly four months, finally peaking at #1 and staying there for three weeks.

Parker was approached by the film's producers to create a theme song, although he only had a few days to do so and the movie's title seemed impossible to include in any lyrics. However, when watching television late at night, Parker saw a cheap ad for a local service that reminded him that the film had a similar commercial featured for the fictional business of "The Ghostbusters".  This inspired him to write the song as an advertising jingle that "the Ghostbusters might have commissioned as a promotion".

The music video was directed by Ivan Reitman (who also directed the film). It features a young woman played by actress Cindy Harrell who is haunted by a ghost portrayed by Parker, roaming a nearly all-black house interior (with vibrant neon designs outlining the sparse architectural and industrial features) until the woman finally calls the Ghostbusters. It was the No. 1 video on MTV for most of the summer of 1984 and features cameos by celebrities Chevy Chase, Irene Cara, John Candy, Melissa Gilbert, Ollie E. Brown, Jeffrey Tambor, George Wendt, Al Franken, Danny DeVito, Carly Simon, Peter Falk and Teri Garr. None of the actors were paid for participating but did so as a favor to Reitman, Bill Murray, or Dan Aykroyd. The video concludes with Parker and the stars of the film in full Ghostbuster costume, dancing down the streets of New York City (where the movie takes place). Times Square was closed in order to film the scene, although a sizable crowd may still be seen in the background.

Ok that should be enough. I'm sure I'm not the only one who saw the lesbian overtones with the story of Phoebe and Melody, right? I mean my daughter was so happy to see some representation in these movies that she visibly and audibly fangirl squealed. Well I brought that up in a comment section for the movie and of course the CHUDS came out of the woodwork going "Nnooooo!!!! They were just best friends!!! She felt lonely and unaccepted so she went out and found someone who cared about her! And then she risked her life to do artificial astral projection to be able to touch Melody because they were besties!!!" And like.....really dude? All the close up shots? The longing looks? And you didn't put that together? I bet if it was Podcast who did all those things there would be official Valentine's Day cards with them as a couple.

“you’re compromised johnny; you know what that means?”

“you’re not pulling me out,” soap immediately snarls. he turns on him and ghost barely recognises him; venomous fear turning his eyes to unyielding ice. "you're not sidelining me; i need to be in this-!"

but ghost has never been afraid of venom; spat or dripped straight from bared fangs.

he snakes out a hand grip the back of his neck, jerking him in a rough shake. "if you can't think, you can't be a soldier," he growls and he flinches like he's been struck.

his lips quiver as they twist in a sneer and he wrenches, trying to free himself of his hold.

ghost doesn't let him.

"it means you give your body to me because your head ain't fucking attached to it anymore."

soap stills, body trembling beneath his hand as he sucks in shaking breaths.

he tightens his grip, pulling him closer and digs his forehead hard into his. “it means you give yourself to me so i can have the weapon that you are and use you the way you're meant to be used."

the ice in soap's eyes fractures.

ghost’s voice drops to a whisper, spoken only to johnny, not this facade of vengeance and pain, and wills it to reach him through the glaciers.

“so i can keep you safe ‘til it’s done and i can bring you back.”
