Joel Miller, Spider Getter
Joel Miller x Reader
Fluff, no smut
Summary: Joel Miller, harboring quite the crush on Reader, takes his role as protector very seriously, except when it comes to harmless little bugs that threaten his girl.
A/N: We all know Joel to be a ruthless, cold blooded killer, but when it comes to innocent creatures, I like to imagine he shows some mercy LOL. Also, this is my first fic, like ever. I was inspired to start writing by some of my favorite writers @swiftispunk and @forever-rogue so please be gentle with me!
Warnings: Spiders! But that’s it, really.
Word Count: 1.6k

Domesticity is nice after nearly a year on the road with Joel and Ellie. You and Ellie are sitting at the kitchen table in your shared home playing a game of scrabble while Joel cooks dinner. You’ve grown very close with Ellie. In every way, she’s like your little sister. She’s sweet, caring, and a great friend, but she also drives you crazy with her silly jokes and teasing. You wouldn’t want your relationship with her to be any other way.
Joel is a different story. You’re close, yes, but you have a relationship you can’t quite define. At first, he was quiet and standoffish. Still is, sometimes. But now, after your time spent together, Joel is much warmer and welcoming. Possibly even flirty? Maybe, you’re not sure what it is. He looks after you, wraps his jacket around your shoulders when you’re cold, and walks you to and the different places around Jackson. You’ve asked him why he continues to keep such a close eye on you when you’re all safe and sound in Jackson. Joel, ever the southern gentleman, explained to you that where he’s from, men always make sure to take special care of the women in their lives, no matter where they are. Women, he said, deserve to feel safe and welcomed everywhere they go. He takes his role as your protector very seriously, even though he knows you’re well equipped to take care of yourself.
Except for one thing. He takes his role as your protector very seriously, except when it comes to bugs. He knows that part of his duties as your closest friend and protector is to take care of the bugs that cross your path, but goddamn if it isn’t the funniest thing to him. You, being the strong, brave, beautiful woman you are, can’t handle a little spider or insect? Now that’s just ridiculous. But, everyone has their weaknesses, right? Indiana Jones, snakes. Superman, kryptonite. Your weakness is bugs, as silly as it may seem.
Despite the silliness of it all, Joel obliged to take care of bugs and spiders for you. He doesn’t entirely know why he does this silly little favor for you. Does he really need to do this for you? You should be able to handle a little bug or two every now and then. You’re a capable, strong, and smart woman! But all Joel knows is that he hates to see your pretty face upset and afraid, and he wants to be the man to make it all better. So, he’s your spider getter.
Joel is all too familiar with your arachnophobia. The first time he saw you panicked after seeing a creepy crawling spider, Joel was completely amused. He had known you for a few months at that point, and he knew you well enough to know how brave you are. Clickers, raiders, and the other evil things of this world were nothing to you. But heaven forbid an eensy teensy black spider cross your path while sitting around a fire. So the moment you saw a spider get a little too close to your feet, you frantically sprinted ten feet away while screaming bloody mary.
“Really?” He and Ellie shared an amused look, giggling at your little show.
“Get it!” You commanded him.
“It’s a harmless little spider, just nudge ‘em away from ya,”
“And get bit? No thanks. Please kill it, please, just, I’m freaking out here,” you begged, your fearful eyes pleading with his own unimpressed ones. You looked to Ellie, “Help me out here?” you asked her.
“This is way too entertaining. Nope!” Ellie grinned at you, then at Joel. He smiled right back at her as they chuckled at your paralyzing fear.
You let out a deep groan. “Please,” you begged them. “I really fucking hate you guys right now.”
“Jesus, girl. You’re somethin’ else,'' Joel grabbed a nearby leaf and scooped underneath the spider, gently placing it among the trees. “You know, he’s probably more afraid of you than you are of him, the way you were stompin’ all around him. Coulda’ smushed him.”
You rolled your eyes. “You’re supposed to smush spiders, Joel. Why didn’t you kill him?” you questioned him, moving back to your place at the fire. “And I am way more afraid of him than he is of me.” You sit back down, pouting at the spot where the spider was before.
“Spiders ain’t done nothin’ wrong. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, now why should he die for that?” He got you there. If you were in the wrong place at the wrong time, you would hope a scary stranger would show you mercy. But this was different. You know spiders are essential to the ecosystem, but they’re creepy and ugly! Why should you care about whether an insect lives or dies? It’s just a bug, after all.
Joel sees the expression on your face, a mixture of disgust and fear. He notices your eyes go blurry as tears form in your waterline and feels a little guilty for teasing you. He moves over to you, offering a comforting squeeze on your shoulder. His deep brown doe eyes and tanned skin are illuminated by the golden light of the fire, and he looks so gorgeous like this. His eyes meet yours as he whispers “It’s alright now, sweetheart. Spider’s back with his spider family, he’ll leave ya alone now,”
A tear falls from your eye, and Joel understands. He may be bad at dealing with his own feelings, but Joel can be very intuitive to others’ emotions. He knows you’re feeling embarrassed and spooked, so he runs his hand down your arm and to your hand, rubbing gentle circles into your soft skin. “I’ll take care of the spiders for you, don’t you worry,” he promises you. And he kept good on that promise after that night, but never missed an opportunity to tease you a little.
Ellie picks out three letters to place on the scrabble board. Using an F from a different word, she spells out ‘FUCK’ towards the edge of the board, scoring herself a triple word. “Ha!” she yells, “Fuck, for 39 points!”
“Yeah, yeah. You’re fifteen and you know the word fuck. Ha. ha. ha,” you laughed sarcastically. “My turn now, you little shit.”
You place your letters on the board, spelling out some mundane word. You count up your points and mark the score on the scorecard. Then, you reach into the letter bag and pull out some more. Feeling something strange in the bag, you hum. “There’s something in there,” you say to Ellie, grabbing the strange item along with your letters. As you pull your hand out of the bag and reveal the strange item, you realize the horror. You drop it and pull your hand away quickly. A big and black spider crawls on the table, and you’re done for. Letting out the most ear piercing shriek man has ever heard, you stumble quickly away from the table, flipping the scrabble board and knocking over your chair. Little wooden letters go flying as you sprint to the other side of the dining room, still screaming.
Joel turns around immediately and looks over to you, cowering in the corner of the room. “The fuck is the matter with you?” he asks.
“Joel, my god, get it, get it, get it, PLEASE!” you cry to him.
“Get what?” Joel pretends to be clueless to egg you on, but the mischievous glint in his eye tells you he knows exactly what he’s doing.
“THE FUCKING SPIDER, JOEL!” you wail, shaking your hands and running to the sink. “I fucking touched it!! Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god.” you scrub your hands with soap and water furiously.
Joel walks over to Ellie at the table as she’s giggling and picking up the pieces of your mess. The spider isn’t crawling around very fast, it seems to be struggling he notices. It’s ugly as sin, but he knows it’s not dangerous. “This lil’ thing?” he asks you.
“Joel, I am not kidding,” you beg.
“Me neither. Come on, honey. Looks like it’s hurt. You probably smacked him or somethin’,” He squints at the being, observing the way it moves rather exhaustedly. “It can’t hurt you, you know.”
“Who gives a shit?”
“Look, sweetheart,” Joel says to you as he grabs the scrabble dictionary and a glass cup. Your heart flutters and the endearing pet name. He places the cup on top of the spider and gently moves it towards the thin book at the edge of the table. Once he has the spider trapped between the cup and the dictionary, he brings it over to you while smirking. He lifts it up to your eye line and wiggles it towards you. “He ain’t gonna hurt you.”
“Ugh, gross,” you flinch as he sets it on the counter next to you. You observe the creature a little more closely, that familiar look of disgust settling on your face again. Joel chuckles to himself, and then picking up the book and cup once again, he walks to the door. He opens it, crouches down and moves the spider to the grass. “Off you go,” he whispers to the being.
“Thank you,” you say.
“It’s no problem, sweetheart,” Joel whispers to you, pressing a chaste kiss to your temple and pulling you in for a hug. “I’ll never let any bug get you ever again, I promise.”
You melt into him, accepting his comforting touch. Joel may be an ass, but you know he doesn’t like to see you in distress. He pulls you in tighter, pressing another kiss to the crown of your head. He loves this, being your source of comfort and safety. He vows to himself that one day he’ll deal with the feelings he has bubbling inside of him for you, but for now he’ll do this. Keep you and Ellie safe and comfortable, and take care of any spider that dares cross you.

Any talented fanfiction writers in the Heartstopper fandom who want to write my Charlie Proposes First headcanon?
So, it takes place around the time that Charlie graduates uni (Nick graduated a year prior) and they’re moving into their first place together.
Tao has joined Charlie to help him do some moving-house shopping, and they pass by a jewelry store and Tao wants to stop to get Elle something for her birthday. Charlie sees a ring that it just so perfectly Nick. (At this point marriage is still kind of a far-off concept in Charlie’s mind. Like they’ve talked about getting married at some point but in a very abstract off-in-the-future kind of way.) He casually points out the ring to Tao who is like, “Haha, you guys have basically been married for years now, are you finally ready to tie the knot?” and Charlie kind of laughs it off, but then they go home, and Charlie cannot stop thinking about the ring. He doesn’t tell anyone, but he goes back to buy it and decides he’ll just save it for when he and Nick are both finally ready. But then just having the ring makes marriage feel more real, like he realizes he’s actually going to get married to Nick Nelson one day and he starts to kind of obsess over it and how he might propose. He wants it to be a grand gesture but he also wants to make it special and personal but not too cheesy and also not too public but not too boring either. In true Charlie Spring fashion, he gets himself all worked up over it, and to calm himself down, he starts to carry the ring around with him, just so he’s ready if the opportunity ever presents itself.
Anyways, flash forward a handful of months and Nick and Charlie are home for the holidays staying with Nick’s mom, and they’ve offered to do the Christmas dinner shopping. They’re walking through the store, just chatting, and Charlie can feel the ring in his pocket. He just stops and looks at Nick and all of the sudden realizes “I am so in love with this man, and I want to be married to him, like, yesterday.” And without even really thinking about it, Charlie blurts out “We should get married” and Nick thinks he means like someday eventually, so he just says “Yeah?” and turns around all smiley like nothing’s happening, and then he sees how nervous Charlie looks and he realizes Charlie is serious. Meanwhile alarms are going off in Charlie’s brain because he’s starting to realize like, “Oh shit, I think I’m proposing right now?!!!!” And he scrambles in his pocket for the ring and is like “Yeah!” and fumbles out this unplanned but incredibly heartfelt proposal. Nick is completely stunned and isn’t really saying anything, and Charlie’s brain starts to spiral like “Oh shit I’ve fucked it up! What am I doing proposing to him here?! Charlie Spring, you complete idiot! Of course you would pick the least romantic place in the entire world to ask the love of your life to marry you. As if he would say yes to you in a Tesco! You couldn’t have thought this through more?!” And then Nick starts to tear up and fishes around in his own pocket and pulls out… you guessed it, a ring! And they both start sobbing, and say yes to each other.
Turns out Nick had bought a ring back in the summer too and had wanted to propose but didn’t want to add stress to Charlie’s already full plate with graduation and starting a new job and moving into a new place, so he had decided to wait. He’d been trying to work up the nerve to take Charlie to the beach where they had their first date and propose there, but just wasn’t sure when it would be the right time, and he didn’t want to rush Charlie into anything if he wasn’t ready to be married just yet. And Charlie’s like, “Oh my God, I am so sorry I ruined your proposal! And I asked in a Tesco of all places. I’m an idiot!” And Nick hushes him and is like “You’re not. It was perfect. You’re perfect.”
And then they go to the beach anyways to celebrate their engagement.

Just For The Night - Hobie Brown x Black!Punk!Reader pt. 1
Summary: Two anarchists meet at a concert and decide that one night just isn't enough...but one night is all they have.
Characters: Mentioned - Gwen, Pavtir, Miguel. Featured - Miles, Hobie
Words: 3,694
Tags: 18+, 3rd person, Mutual Pining, Suggestive Content (Smut in part 2), Hobie is Whipped, Aged-Up Characters (Miles/Gwen is 17), Reader and Hobie are 21+, Mention of Marijuana, Canon Divergence (Doesn't follow ATSV events/Miles is not an anomaly/Hobie's universe is present day instead of 1978), Hobie and Miles are like brothers, I tried my best with the British slang
author's note: The Hobie brainrot is real. I wasn't planning on writing for ATSV at all, but some of the fanfictions just weren't scratching the itch and you have to be the change you want to see in the world and all that other shit. I don't think that Miles would listen to Rico Nasty, but I definitely think Hobie would. I had to write something putting the two together like it just makes SENSE TO ME!
You don’t have to listen to the music at all I’m not even sure if I want to keep it in there. Anyway, here's the story. More notes abt me at the end.
AO3 version part 2 epilogue
Tumblr media
"You tryna' go to this concert with me?"
Hobie stopped playing with his guitar pick to look Miles in the eyes. The day was over, for them at least. Miguel was satisfied with their work and they didn't have to deal with him until it was time to be called back into action. Gwen had already gone back home, something about her band, and Pav wasn't on the schedule for today. It was one of the only times where Miles and Hobie could really work as partners and they cherished it.
Miles was especially glad to have Hobie all to himself, as he felt this question would be a bit more awkward around the others. He waited until they were grabbing something to eat in the food court so he was sure anyone who would overhear his question couldn't. He had always been a fan of this artist, but never really embraced it in fear of embarrassment or rejection.
"Who's playin'?" Hobie asked him, already knowing he was going to say yes no matter what Miles said. He saw him as a little brother, and he was happy that he wanted to spend time together outside of work.
"Her name is Rico Nasty." Hobie raised a brow. Either this artist is only popular in America, or he didn't have her in his own universe. He had never heard of her before.
"Oh? Who's that?" Miles lit up like a fire, excited to show Hobie something new. He hoped to whoever was listening that he would enjoy her.
To say that seeing Hobie begin to head bop with his headphones in filled Miles with joy was an understatement. As the song continued, He began making a stank face and looked at him. He was enjoying himself, clearly, and Miles knew he had him hooked.
When the song ended, Hobie took out his headphones and gave Miles his phone back. "Yeah, I'll go with you."
Miles throws a small celebration. He pumps his fist and says "Yes!" dancing for a second before stopping and clearing his throat. He turns back around to see Hobie looking at him amused.
"Am I the only one going?" He asks him, biting into a burger.
Miles sits back down across him and sighs. He looks down at the table. "Yeah," he says, dejected. Hobie gives him a worried look, which Miles is quick to dismiss. "Oh, no! It's nothing bad. I just...I don't really know anyone else who would come with me and it seemed like music you would like..." He trails off for a minute. Hobie urges him on by gesturing his hand. "And I kind of wanted an actual adult with me because I'm really nervous and kind of scared and I needed someone I could trust completely. You fit all the criteria."
Hearing that made Hobie insanely happy. He gives Miles a sideways smile. "That warms me up inside, you know that?"
Miles lets out a small, breathy, laugh. "Yeah, yeah."
"So," Hobie wipes his hands with each other and takes a sip of his drink. "What's the scene gonna be like?"
"Well...you, really. Your whole aesthetic."
Hobie raises a brow. "Oh yeah?"
~
As a connoisseur of moshing, in Hobie's opinion, the venue was perfect. Big enough to fit scores of people, too small to have any personal space.
It was completely painted black with a black floor as well. Purple, green, and red stage lights shone over the thickening crowd. It was already so hot, a stark contrast from the chilly Brooklyn night air.
That day, Miles had visited Hobie's apartment to get dressed. Hobie gave him loads of clothes and accessories to choose from. Miles, unfortunately, had no sense of style, and everything he chose clashed with each other. Hobie had to completely dress him from head to toe. "You look like a proper rebel without a cause," Hobie had told him, which Miles took as a good thing.
Miles took one look at the bartending stand, gave Hobie a stupid smile, and as funny as it was, he shot him down immediately. "Uh-Uh. 'low it."
It was 7:30. The concert didn't officially start for another 30 minutes, and Rico wasn't going to come out for an hour after that. Miles was taking everything in. He had a look of wonder in his eyes. Hobie found it amusing. Him and Miles have been friends for some time now, but he’s never seen him this relaxed.
“You didn’t think about bringing Gwendy here?” Hobie asked him. Gwen should see this part of her boo thing. (They still haven’t made anything official).
Miles hisses and scratches the back of his head. “Eh…nah man. I’m still nervous about showing this side of me to people. You’re the only person I’m confident enough to show it off to.”
Miles’s sweet words brought a genuine smile to Hobie’s face, and he smiled back. Hobie wrapped his arm around him and rubbed his head. They continue talking as the venue fills more and more and people gather behind him. Soon, it’s hard to move around and the two boys finally notice how packed the floor has become. Miles begins to look a little nervous, but looks up at how chill Hobie is and adjusts himself accordingly.
When he’s done trying to look cool he taps Hobie on his arm. The man looks down at him in curiosity. “Hey, so…what’s your situation?”
“What do you mean?”
Miles makes a fist and punches his palm. “I mean, do you got a girl, bro?”
Hobie scoffs and laughs at his question. “Nah, man. My Gwen Stacy is a capitalist pig. And I don’t know a Mary Jane.”
“Maybe you can have the Gwen from my universe.” Mike’s jokes. Hobie laughs and punches his arm.
“Sorry mate, but if she’s anything like others, I don’t want her." He gets a far off look in his face, and Miles's grin straightens out. "It’s like in every universe, she’s a "good" girl.” Hobie explains his thought process. Miles is greatly interested in what he has to say. Hobie looks up and speaks as if this is something he’s put a lot of thought into. “My person needs to have my ideals. I want her to be loud and obnoxiously motivated. Like me.” He says the last part with a grin. Miles shook his head.
“So you want an anarchist?”
Hobie shrugs. “If she’s not a felon she’s not for me.” They laugh with each other until the opening DJ comes out. It was 8:00 and the concert was starting. He played some popular mainstream music that Hobie wouldn’t otherwise listen to. But Miles had started rapping 21 Savage with some other teenagers around him and he couldn’t help but enjoy it.
Hobie easily towered over the crowd, so he took a moment to take it all in. In his opinion, he had the best spot on the floor. Right in the middle. He could see everything. Everyone had on some form of punk-like, gothic, or emo styling. He saw many spikes, chains, and buckles. So many creative hairstyles and outfit choices. He truthfully felt that he was in his element. It was nice.
Oh! Es-pecially the fine thing standing right in front of him.
Well, he assumed that she looked good. He was absolutely digging her hair. She had large Bantu Knots going across her head. It was was a nice Cajun Spice color. This hair definitely takes the cake for him.
His eyes trail down her body to look at her outfit. She had fishnets on her legs and torso. Over the fishnets, she had on an AC/DC crop top with jagged edges that she probably cut herself. Her bottoms were black ripped shorts. Extremely short, they wrapped around her ass so nicely, and some of the flesh hung out of them. He couldn’t see too much of her feet, but he could guess that she’s wearing Demonias. He really wanted to see the front of her choker.
She was moving to the music and shaking her hips to the beat of ‘The Boy’s a Liar.” It was a cute song in his opinion, and her dance was just as adorable. But it was dangerous how the plush of her ass moved in those shorts.
Her friend who was dancing beside her accidentally backed into him. She turned to apologize and Hobie gave her a nod and a “you’re good,” then went right back to staring at Bantu Knots. The girl peeped him, and she smiled and nudged her to get her attention. She whispers in her ear, then turns back around completely.
When Hobie makes eye contact with Bantu Knots, his heart feels like it’s slowing down. Then, immediately, it runs. She had big brown eyes and the cutest ring on her round nose. Her makeup wasn’t much, but she still looked stunning. She clearly had on foundation, concealer and some sort of powder. She had long false lashes on, sharp wings, and black glossy lips. On the flush of her cheek, there was a small black heart drawn with eyeliner. She was gorgeous.
He was mesmerized, it was like his body did the work for him when he nodded and smirked at her. She gave him a sideways smile back, looked him up and down, then turned back around. The whistle that Hobie let out was long and smooth. Miles nudges him in the arm having been witness to the whole thing. Hobie grins.
He takes another chance to enrapture her. He taps her shoulder than leans down next to her ear. He keeps his voice low, and mutters, “I love your hair.”
He guessed she really liked that compliment, because she immediately lights up and turns around fully to look at him. The girl puts her hand on his shoulder to pull his ear towards her. A shock courses through his body when her breath hits his skin.
“I love yours, too.”
Somehow, her voice was even more breathtaking than she was. Hobie shivers. He resists the urge to ask her if she wanted to use his wicks as handle bars. Then he blinks. He has no idea where that idea came from, but he liked it.
He also liked her voice. She didn’t sound like she was local. Most spidermen in the spider society were from New York or some variation of it. He had heard his fair share of Northern American accents. Hers was more southern. Not nearly as southern as Webslinger’s though. Or, a different kind of southern.
"You’re not from around here, are you?” He asks her.
“Neither are you, mate.”
Hobie chuckled at her joke. Even though she was mocking him, it was pretty good. He decided then that he likes her and he doesn’t want to stop talking to her. He looks to his side to see Miles caught up in his own conversation with his new buddies. Good, he’s occupied.
“I don’t entirely think it’s fair that you know where I’m from and I don’t know where you’re from.” He suggest.
“I’m from Atlanta,” she answers, her deep voice relaxing him. “I moved to Brooklyn not to long ago.”
That was interesting. “Oh, really?” He wondered what might have brought her all the way up here.
She nodded. “What about you?”
Hobie rubbed his chin and quickly thought of a small lie to tell you. “I’m just visiting my bro, he invited me to this concert. I’ve never heard her music before, but I like what he showed me.”
The girl gasped as if Hobie had just told her of a terrible crime. “You've never listened to Rico before?”
Hobie shook his head. “Don’t worry, love. That’s gonna change real soon. Especially when her fans look like this.” He looked her body over and smirked.
She returns his advance with a sensual smile of her own. “Like what?”
His face doesn’t fall. “Like, bare fit.”
“What that mean?”
“It’s UK for, ‘fine as hell.’”
She continued smiling at him. They stared at each other for a second, then she spoke. “My name is Y/N.”
“Hobie.”
Before she could continue talking to him, the music starts to pick up a bit more. The playlist becomes a little more raunchy. She turns back around to dance with her friends and Hobie begins rapping along with Miles. While the music played, Hobie would occasionally catch Y/N’s eyes look at him. She was dancing really cutely, which was absolutely not the vibe of the songs that were currently playing. He could tell she wanted to really move. But, she was most likely afraid of making him uncomfortable.
Hobie had to let her know that he wants it. With all the confidence and audacity he can muster, he rubs his hand on her lower back, wrapping his fingers and palm around her waist. She turns slightly to look at him, and her eyes are full of mischief. Hobie leans over to her ear once again. Her friends are watching the scene somewhat discreetly and giggling.
“You can throw it back on me, love. I don’t mind at all.”
Apparently, that was all she needed to get absolutely loose with it. She beamed at him, caught the beat, then started dancing on him while he held her waist. Hobie’s grip is firm, but he doesn’t force their hips together, no matter how much it would turn him on. This wasn’t the first time he’s been twerked on, but he hasn’t been this into it. He grabs the other side of her hips with his other hand.
She bounces herself on him a couple times, and Hobie had never been more happy that he was wearing jeans. He doesn’t know how she would react to feeling his boner on her. However, the thought excites him. How good would it feel to just start humping into her backside? Everyone is paying attention to themselves. Would anyone even notice if he slipped his finger in between her thick thighs and underneath her shorts?
As she continues to dance on him, his imagination begins to run wilder. He doesn’t even realize how much time had passed and that the opener had already came and gone. There was a new DJ who was to introduce Rico any second now, and all Hobie could do was watch her skin bounce on his pants. There’s only a slit going from the back of her shorts to the front to cover her pussy. He assumes that she has a thong on, or he would be able to see her panties. If she just bent over a little more and stuck her ass in the air, Hobie could play with her for a little bit. And if he just angled his hips down a bit, he could pull it to the side, unzip his jeans, and just…
That would be disgusting. Fucking this random girl in the middle of a mosh pit floor. It excites him. He wonders if she likes that idea too. He doesn’t even realize that she has moved his arms completely to the front of her torso. His hands were gripping her lower stomach. She was practically grinding on him. Hobie’s mouth opened only slightly. He licked his bottom lip then bit it, not noticing the way Miles’s eyebrows lifted in shock.
At one point she looked back at him without stopping with the same bright smile on her face. Just when Hobie was about to say ‘fuck it’, the DJ begins to hype everyone up. He lets go of Y/N and looks towards the stage. The lights are going crazy. So is the crowd.
Miles is shaking his arm back and forth. “That girl was going crazy!”
Hobie slapped their hands together and bumped his chest. “Hell yeah.” He takes one more look at her back. As if she feels his eyes on her, she looked back at him. They smile and she turns around. Hobie doesn’t stop.
Miles squints his eyes. “Wait a minute, big fella.” He holds his arms out. “Whatchu thinkin’?”
Hobie shrugs, but still doesn’t stop looking at her. “I’m not thinking anything, mate.”
The crowd gets louder as one of Rico’s songs finally start playing.
“You ready?” Miles yells at him.
“Ha!” Hobie laughs and grabs Miles’s arms. “Are you? Your first time moshing, big steppa,” He shouts back.
“I’m scared as hell!”
“Don’t be! I got you!”
With that, Rico finally comes out and the crowd screams. All at once, the entire venue starts jumping. Hobie’s eardrums feel like they’re about to explode. With the way he’s moving along with his height and his firm grip over Miles’s shoulders, he feels sorry for the people behind and next to him.
The crowd isn’t pushing so much as everyone is just too filled with adrenaline to stay still. Rico herself is having a lot of fun on the stage too. Jumping up and down with everyone, screaming into the mic, feeding off the crowds amazing energy. Hobie’s really feeling it too. He hadn’t been moshing for a while, it felt good to be in his element.
As the songs change, the crowd gets more and more hype, but it isn’t until STFU when they really start moving.
Hobie doesn’t let go of Miles and pushes people around, almost falling over himself. At the same time, he makes sure to push against Y/N’s back. Everyone is screaming, pushing and throwing themselves into each other. It’s wild, hot, and exciting. It’s the most fun Hobie has had for a minute.
Y/N kept up pretty well, as if she’s true to this too. The concert goes on, and Rico begins to play her more down tempo songs. Hobie and Miles are sweating , but Miles is heaving. Hobie nudges him.
“You alright, bro?” Miles doesn’t stop heaving, but gives him a thumbs up. Hobie groans and slaps his head.
“Bro, so sorry, I completely forgot to bring some water for you. Ay listen, we can go and get some, and I’ll push us back up here, that good?” He suggests.
Miles waved him off. “Nah man,” he says exasperated. “I’m chilling.”
His new group of friends hand him a hydro flask and tells him to waterfall. Hobie thinks it’s gross, but it gets the job done. Miles looks fine again. He sighs in relief and turns back to see Y/N just vibing.
He takes the liberty to tap her shoulder and lean down into her ear. “You doing okay?” She was sweating, so was he, but she was still the most gorgeous girl in the venue.
She smiled at him thankfully and nodded. Once again, placing her hand on his shoulder she talks into his ear. “Yeah, thank you. What about you? You look just as crazy as I do.”
Hobie laughs. “How bad do I look?”
She shakes her head. “I didn’t say you look bad, baby. I said you look crazy. I like it.” Hobie’s heart flutters at the pet name, her southern drawl coming out a bit. He decides then that this can’t be the only time they talk.
“How much do you like it?” Pussy Poppin’ begins to play, Y/N turns around, grabs his hands to put them around her waist and begins to dance on him again. Hobie smiles again. This time, there’s no letting of each other. His hands remain on her waist for some time. She often looks back and stares at him. He knows this girl likes him just as much as he does and if he was only back in his universe, he would have grabbed her and swung her back to his place immediately. But, he can’t leave Miles-
Where is Miles?
Hobie lets go of her and begins looking around in a panic. She becomes worried. “Are you okay?” She yells while placing her hand on his chest. Hobie is too worried to revel in her touch, but one of the boys Miles was interacting with gets his attention.
“Hey, that boy, Miles?” He starts. “He said to tell you he was feeling lightheaded so he went to his dorm.” Hobie closes his eyes and sighs in relief. But he was also upset that he had just left without a word. Then, the kid gets his attention once more. “Um, he also said good luck with your girl.”
Ah, so that’s why. That’s kind of awkward.
“Everything alright?” Y/N asks again.
Hobie’s reassuring smile relaxes her. “It’s fine. Was looking for my bro but he went home.”
That mischievous glint in her eye came back. "So you’re free?”
Hobie pauses. Was this really happening right now? Was he really this lucky? “Yeah.”
“Want to go to my place after this? I got a blunt.”
The night just keeps getting better. Hobie chased off a stupid smile and says a thankful prayer to whatever is listening. Then he realizes. It’s only gone 10:00. The concert can’t be ending for at least another hour.
“After?” Hobie debates his next move, then he grabbed her hand. Without looking away from her, he slowly brings her hand to feel his crotch. Her eyes widened. He was very turned on, he had been since she backed up on him. He rubbed her hand up and down a bit so she could feel his arousal even better. When she began squirming and rocking back and forth on her feet, Hobie's smirk grows. Her legs were clenched shut and she couldn’t take her eyes off his waist. He leans down again, his breath making her shudder. “You see what you did to me? You’re really gonna make me wait, love?”
He stares into her eyes. Hers flicker back and forth between his, and eventually to his studded lips. Hobie anticipates her answer, but from the way she began to grip his member he knows she’ll take him up on his offer.
She takes in a breath, turns to tell her friends that she’s leaving, the grabs Hobie’s arm and starts walking through the crowd.
ending a/n: That’s the end of part one to the story. How did you guys like it so far? I wanted to add a few Rico songs to get a gist of how the concert went, but I didn’t want to overload the story. I hope the suggestiveness is to y’all’s liking. I promise the nasty raunchy sex is coming next. I can’t help but to write lore for every story I write, so you, the reader, will have a little back ground story in the next part. Just a couple of heads up, it will be a little bit angsty towards the end, and involve having sex while under the influence. They’ll be smoking while they’re fucking, basically.
about the author: I do not write for this fandom, this will be my first and probably only story involving spiderverse. I write Jujutsu Kaisen fanfiction, pretty much exclusively Toji. I also don’t write on Tumblr. I will link my AO3 but please be warned that the stories I write have very dark content matter and are angst the whole way through.

Dating Legolas
Having Anxiety
Tumblr media
Request: Can I request Legolas (or an elf of your choice) and (human) someone that has anxiety when it comes to doing anything new or out of routine 😅
A/N: I am for once going to break my own rule and write for Legolas. I need something new and fresh instead of doing the same thing over again. Hopefully this is an accurate representation of Legolas, since I don't read much fanfiction on him and it matches the rest of the community. Who knows maybe I'll start taking more requests for him after this.
* * *
❧ When it comes to dating Legolas, you are going to be with someone who is very kind, supportive and very loving.
❧ Legolas is also really observant and nothing really gets past him, so when you start showing signs of anxiety, Legolas really takes notice of it.
❧ He notices how you seem to get a little shaky, or when your breathing speeds up, and he sure your heart is hammering in your chest.
❧ Not to mention the nervous sweats and your clear struggle to put a sentence together or speaking far too fast to keep up with and getting tongue tied.
❧ He would've noticed that this all seems to stem from either your change in routine or doing something new.
❧ At first Legolas isn't sure how to handle it, it's all so new to him seeing as he doesn't struggle with anxiety, but that doesn't mean he's apathetic to what you are going through.
❧ He is completely sympathetic with what you are going through and does his best by trying to be helpful.
❧ At first he won't really mention it to you, instead he will bring his concerns to a healer and about the best ways that he can help you work through your anxiety.
❧ But that doesn't mean that he won't talk to you about it either, if anything after he gets some more insight from the Healers about anxiety and what makes it tick, he will come and talk to you about it.
❧ He doesn't mind how detailed you get about dealing with anxiety and what your symptoms are the more specific you are with him, the better Legolas understands what is going on with you and how to help.
❧ That way the next time a new situation arises or a change to your routine is coming, he can help prepare you for it. Or try to help you manage your feelings.
❧ So the next time something new to you comes around, that Legolas happens to know about, he immediately dives in to tell you a few days in advance.
❧ That way you have time to prepare for the new thing mentally, he would hate to blind side you and make your Anxiety even worse than he knows it can be when something new happens.
❧ When the day comes, Legolas is consistently checking on you verbally and observantly.
❧ He looks for any cues that might tick off that you are feeling anxious about the new thing and change in routine.
❧ You'll find that if you are comfortable with touch, that he'll off you a hug or to hold your hand.
❧ Legolas also encourages you to be able to talk about your feelings of anxiety and what is causing them, he has you walk him through it step by step hoping to take a large weight off your shoulders.
❧ Legolas listens attentively and validates your feelings about your anxiety, understanding that it is irrational but how you feel is still valid.
❧ He is very supportive and helps you through the things that make you anxious about your change/new experience with reassurance that everything is going to be okay and that he's right there with you through the whole thing.
❧ Should things get so bad that you are having a panic attack, Legolas finds a quiet place to take you and have you sit down.
❧ Either he will offer you a nice pressure filled hug, while talking you down and reassuring you while you have your panic attack.
❧ Or he will hold your hands and walks you through several breathing exercises, calming going over them with you and praising you for doing such a good job of following instructions.
❧ He will sit with you for a long time until everything has subsided and he won't rush you to leave this quiet place to venture out to the change/new thing until you tell him you are ready.
❧ All in all, Legolas is really supportive and will do anything he can to make sure that you are comfortable and have good support through your toughest days in dealing with anxiety.
❧ No matter how massive it may seem to you, Legolas will be there to help guide you through it.

Your POV
I held onto the pipe I was climbing, hands sweaty as I tried with all my strength to pull myself up. The pipe groaned with the amount of weight being placed on it. Once I got to a good position I turned and looked around with hesitant eyes, I had to squint to see the extravagant town in front of us since it was a bright and sunny day. Looking down I noticed it seemed higher than I thought it would. Vi was taking us so high and I was newer to this so I felt like my actions were very clumsy and slow. I look up slightly meeting Violet's eyes, she nods down at me. I purse my lips and hoist myself up some more after gaining some confidence.
“We are almost there come on.” She grunts at everyone trying to encourage them and I follow her gaze looking down at the three underneath me Powder, Mylo, and Claggor. They all seem to be struggling to climb the vertical building. I just return my thoughts to climbing up the pipe.
“Aw, man!” I could hear Mylo groan not the happiest about this situation. I quickly ignore his complaining and I follow Violet up the rest of the wall. I get to the ledge pulling myself up with strained lungs. I get myself to stand looking in awe at Piltover. My breaths were heavy from the climb.
“Woah.” I could hear Powder say from next to me making me look over and give her a small smile as she returns. We barely got to see the top side.
“It’s nice to get above it all huh,” Violet says as my attention turns back to the clean trees and buildings that lay in front of us like an entirely different world. As everyone got up onto the roof a large blimp flew past us. I looked at the view in complete awe.
“One day I am going to ride one of those things.” Powder says under her breath in a determined tone. I looked at her with a smile, I knew how much she was infatuated with seeing the new world, as much as I was. I probably fed her fantasy a bit since I told her the stories my father told me. I placed my hand in her hair ruffling her blue locks.
“And one day I’m going to shoot one down,” Mylo says pointing a finger gun at it as if to shoot it down. But I just roll my eyes pushing his arm down silently. My attention was brought to Claggor as he looked over Piltover nervously, we weren’t supposed to be topside… Vandor made that very clear. Calin wouldn’t be happy either, more because we didn’t invite him.
“Vi you sure about this? If we get caught…” Claggor starts to say and I turn to her with a hesitant nod not liking the plan, because it would be more than just Vandor mad at me.
“We aren’t going to get caught. We will be in and out before anyone even notices. We have [y/n] after all.” She says going to the edge of the building looking for the town square trying to figure out where we were in terms of finding out our jobs location. I gave a nervous sigh letting it get lost in the strong winds that were flowing over the buildings. Violet looks to me with a nod and I step forward eyeing all of the possible paths on the way to our destination.
“How long is this going to take, I’m hungry.” I hear Mylo say from behind me, after another second passes I point in the direction of the town Square already having a path in mind. I turn to Violet for her approval and she nods at me.
“Alright then everyone, fallow [y/n]… and just don’t look down.” She says as I jump into action, sliding down the roof onto an apartment balcony. I stand on the poles of the balcony railing and motion for them to come one at a time. Violet comes down first leaping over the gap with no problem. I turn seeing Claggor about to slide down but Mylo brushes past him with a smirk making Clagoor roll his eyes following right behind. By the time Mylo lands on the one side, Claggor lands right next to him Cupcake in mouth.
“Couldn’t we have just walked?” I could hear Claggor ask from the other side of the gap.
“Gotta stay out of sight for this one,” Violet says looking back over at us. I am trying to get Powder to go next in case she fell maybe I could save her. But she is just looking down and taking deep breaths.
“Called it! This is on you Vi.” Mylo says referring to Powder and I glare over at the male.
“[y/n] can carry her over,” Claggor says motioning to me but Violet holds up her hand.
“No. Powder look at me! What did I tell you… you're ready. So you got this [y/n] will save you.” She says looking at me and I nod at her as Powder starts to get ready to jump off the roof keeping herself up with a small gasp, jumping over with ease she gets to the other side, only to come up shorter than the rest. I could see Violet's eyes go wide reaching her hand out but I sprang into action and leap over catching Powder before she could fall backwards. She looks up at my taller self giving me a thankful smile. Us three girls sigh in relief.
“Thanks.” I hear her say regaining her balance as we turn to the others. I just nod. As we walked I could see Mylo rolling his eyes at Powder and me. I reach my hand out shoving him back making it so he was walking behind Claggor. He was starting to get on my nerves. I start to lead them by shimmying along the edge of the rooftop. I focus on keeping my back glued to the wall leading the others.
“What if Vandor finds out we are all the way up here?” Claggor asks earning a few looks from the rest of us silently agreeing with his concern. I just keep moving knowing if I stopped now I would definitely turn back. I hear Violet sigh annoyed so I keep my mouth shut.
“Look around! Do you think anyone topside is going hungry? Besides, this is exactly the kind of job Vandor would have pulled at our age. He is probably sending Cal on missions like these. I’m going, are you with me or not?” She asks stopping and turning to look at them. I look down not wanting to look at the others. I could hear no protests so I stood my ground from the front as she took up the back.
“Vandor’s going to kill us,” Claggor says behind me, I nod at his comment. Even if this mission went well we were going to get a good lecture from the man himself.
“Only if we screw up… So don’t screw up.” She says with a stern look before turning to me and nodding. I return the gesture and lean forward before catching myself and landing on the balcony I led us to that sat underneath us. I look into the doors and listen… it seems like no one has been home.
“All clear,” I say to the rest signaling them it was safe to hop down. They start hopping down one by one. Mylo tries to open the door eager to get to work but is stopped when the handle doesn’t budge.
“Who locks their balcony?” He asks pulling out a lockpick and starting to do his thing. I turn and help Vi with getting the rest of our team down. Claggor and I look over the railing and frown looking at each other.
“There are a lot of enforcers down there.” He says and I nod looking for possible escape routes.
“That means we are in the right place. You going to get that door open anytime soon?” Violet asks turning to look at Mylo.
“Workin’ on it?” Mylo says aggravated, I stay quiet not wanting to put pressure on him. “Seeing as I'm the only one who knows how to pick locks, I suggest...” But as he’s talking Violet walks forward kicking the door open. Mylo flinches back not expecting her actions. Claggor brushes him as he walks into the apartment after Violet, powder following them.
“Animals…” He says turning to me and seeing my hand outstretched to him, He grumbles taking it. Helping pull him up before entering ourselves. I look around furrowing my eyebrows, this place seems fancy but things were laid in a very hectic order. Everyone soon disperses looking around at the place.
“Y’know Claggor, for once you’re right. We are definitely not supposed to be here.” Mylo says with a grin on his face as he admires the place around him greedily rubbing his hands together before he starts to look some gadgets over. I looked around at the books on the shelves not seeing anything that caught my eye. I find a few gadgets on a small table examining them before shrugging and tossing them into the bag in the middle of the room.
“Must be an inventor…” I hear Violet ask and I turn to see a huge chalkboard filled to the brim with equations and blueprints. I looked closer trying to see if there was anything I could understand. Seeing a book on the desk next to the chalkboard I pick it up and start flipping through all that was written down.
“This man is either crazy or a genius,” I grumble reading the hypothesis and outcomes he wrote down. I could barely understand anything scribbled on the paper.
“Whoa, I think this is a real Valdiani.” I hear Powder say with excitement, I turn to see a small object in her hands, it opens and plays a small jingle. I gently close the book in my hands but still hold onto it going to her and admiring the delicate invention.
“Oh, yeah? What about this?” Mylo asks with a smirk looking at an invention thinking he found something.
“That's a nose hair trimmer.“ I say with a giggle as his face drops at my words.
“Keep an eye out for anything that looks valuable, Powder. Before the boys fill the bag with junk.” Violet says making me chuckle reopening the book reading it and wondering if I should bring it with us.
“Uh... guys?” Claggor comments bringing my attention to a mechanism on the desk covered in papers. I blinked looking at the blue stone placed in the middle. As I walked up to it with the others I could feel my hand moving on its own.
“Wait, Vi… How the hell did we find this place?” Claggor asks looking at the pink-haired girl. As my finger got close to the stone I felt a zap and wince pulling back my hand and holding it feeling the tingling shock as it went through my body. But I didn’t dare look from the blue stone.
“It was a tip from Little Man.” I hear her say and I roll my eyes.
“Little Man?” Mylo asks in disbelief that we took a tip from the small boy.
“Just leave it. C’mon.” She says harshly finally breaking me out of the small trance I was in even though my eyes still looked to the small blue orb. I shook my head returning to looking around the room. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Powder start to walk down a hallway.
“How can anyone have so much stuff?” I hear Claggor ask, I start to follow Powder overhearing their little conversation.
“Simple, just get born lucky.” I hear Mylo say making me huff amused rolling my eyes. As I get to the hallway I see papers pinned to the wall. I look at them starting to understand what this person could be making. As I get closer to the room I can see Powder opening a chest filled with the same blue stones as the one I just saw. As I am about to get closer I hear footsteps making me freeze and walk back to the others.
“Psst.” I hiss quietly at them and Vi turns to me with furrowed eyebrows. I nod at her urgently and she frowns looking over at me.
“Mylo.” She says quickly making him sprint into action, I run back down the hallway as Mylo puts the chair up to the door handle.
“Powder we got to go!” I hiss making her flinch grabbed the stones and ran after me as I started to tidy up some things so it didn’t look so messed up. I help Vi get the stuff together but as I am getting her up with the bad an explosion erupts through the apartment making us fly across the room, I hit the bookshelf and fall to the floor, and I groan latching my hand to my stomach. I push myself up and see Violet already next to me ready to help me out. We have definitely been found out now. The balcony starts to give way and I help Vi make sure the others are secure on the balcony before we hear screams from underneath us. I silently swear and stare at the place I was standing with Violet now gone crumbled on the street floor stories below.
We jump into action starting to run, because if we didn’t start to move now we definitely would get caught. I look to Violet seeing her motion for me to take the lead and I don’t waste a second taking the lead to guide us out of Piltover. I could hear Enforcers behind us yelling at us to stop as they started to run after us. I quickly turn a corner motioning for the others to follow me. I could hear them getting closer and I turned another corner feeling more confident getting closer to the underground. I ripped off the sewer lid and motioned for them to get in.
“Oh man not again! I just got this shirt!” Mylo yells as Violet kicks him down the disgusting shaft. Claggor follows then Powder and I follow after, Violet not too far behind me. I get to the bottom and land on my side earning a hiss from my clenched teeth.
“I thought last time was the last time we were gonna do this,” Mylo complained and I rolled my eyes shifting into a sitting position.
“Well, this time's the last time,” Vi says harshly starting to get annoyed with the boy’s complaints.
“Guys, what was that? What the hell happened back there?” Claggor asks before everyone turns to Powder and I, I furrow my eyebrows.
“I don’t know… I didn't do anything.” I hear Powder defend.
“Yeah c’mon, we all didn’t expect the owners to come back so quick,” I say earning an eye roll from Mylo. My face falls and I clench my fists.
“You could fill a damn library with all the things you didn't do.” He mumbled and I stood up ready to knock some sense into him.
“Guys, we just emptied a Piltover penthouse right under the enforcers' noses,” Vi says gathering everyone's attention, everyone smiling but me. We might have done that, but we got caught in the process… There would be no doubt that trouble would come for us. Or be waiting when we got back to the Lanes. I sighed shaking my head walking out of the trash shoot out into the underground.

First project for college wooooooooo-
Tumblr media
More details under the cut:
I made this for school as a sort of interactive self-portrait. I think I misinterpreted the prompt (even if it was super vague anyway), but honestly, getting to draw all these ocs was worth it.
Here are their names and some bare-bones stuff about them:
Tumblr media
The Orange Cat: Cattington Stamper
A Battleblock Theater oc. He was a stowaway on the ending ship and grew up in the city on the mainland. A nervous wreck with trauma and daddy issues.
The Shiny-ish Furret: Katt Furrocy
A Pokémon Mystery Dungeon oc. She is a writer with psychic powers who basically "documented" the "real world" story of my old PMD series. She is the most normal one here.
Tumblr media
The Blue-Green Slugcat: The Herbalist
A Rain World oc. They were tasked with helping an iterator with an airborne rot. They are semi-aquatic but have breathing problems, hence the mask.
The Purple StoryBot: Raven Reallystressed
A StoryBots oc. She's a transfer from my old computer into my new one, resembling the use of my computer in a scholarly way. She's an introverted jerk who writes fanfiction.
Tumblr media
The Grey Grumpus: Skrunckly "Skunck" Scrincklyscrimblo
A Bugsnax oc. He is the reason I got my footing on Tumblr. This guy is my journalist interpretation: clumsy, indestructible, and probably made of Bugsnax.
The "Watchdog": Iris Lash
A Wonder Over Yonder oc. She is from a different galaxy where "Watchdogs" are called "Seekers and Seers." She is smart, strong, and wants to overthrow the government.
Tumblr media
The Strawberry: Strawbeary
My old OSC objectsona. I have since retired her from that role, but now she is more of a beast who is fairly bloodthirsty.
The Sketchpad: Sketchpad "Sketchy"
My OSC oc. They are the host of a show I'm working on called SPIRIT. Will I ever complete it? Unlikely, but I can try. She is eccentric and friendly but very tone-deaf and oblivious.
Tumblr media
The Purple Dragon Cat: Katelyn Kendelle
An oc. She has been one of my forefront characters for YEARS. Despite all the changes to her character over that time, some things stayed the same: her obnoxious height, her intelligence, and her ability to reset the universe once before death.
The Blue Rodent: Kyt Sycamore
An oc. This is probably one of my most fleshed out characters since I am writing a novel for the guy. He is hot-headed with a lot to prove. No one really respects him, tho :/
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The last two are me ✌️✌️.
And the little drawing on the board is Cup, my South Park oc of both Canadian and American descent. An abomination, if you will.
So yeah, enjoy the rambling and come say hi if you wanna talk about any of these with me👍

gilethen headcannons because I really don't want to write a third fanfiction about them and my obsession only grows stronger with each passing day:
gilan and selethen get together after gilan's first mission in arrida, but nobody notices (halt suspects something but he isn't quite sure – he saw gilan talking to jenny on his wedding and it misled him)
surprise: jenny and gilan are just besties, also she makes the best plum pie, so gilan just follows her around with his puppy eyes
gilan and selethen exchange letters, of course. when he becomes the corps commandant (I still can't get over the fact that crowley died and duncan is still alive, like, come on, flanagan) it becomes more frequent as they have to discuss international matters as well as their undying love confessions
about love confessions: I like to imagine that they first said they love each other during the fifth brotherband book – that's how the herons found out (although I still quite like the idea that hal found out because gilan had a wedding ring on his left hand)
as I have wonderful and truly outstanding math skills (that is an obvious lie) I managed to figure out that during RA, gilan is in his early twenties (I think twenty one or twenty two), and in brotherband there is a mention that he is not yet thirty. assuming that brotherband happened somewhere between the lost stories and the royal ranger: a new beginning, gilan, during the whole TRR series would be in his forties (this might be completely wrong but anyways). where i'm going with this: gilan and selethen got married when gilan was thirty eight.
so, we all know that the herons visited araluen on several occasions, but I am thinking here specifically about the one visit when maddie was already an apprentice and they helped her with saving cassie or something (forgive me for the lack of details here, but I erased the whole TRR series from my brain as it caused me some serious emotional damage). now, if I remember correctly, halt wasn't around and the herons left before he returned and they never actually met, but: what if they did?
I think that one of the herons would mention the relationship that gilan and selethen have, because they've known about it for quite some time and they just generally like to tease gilan. (I am assuming that gilan did not propose to jenny even once and they were friends, of course) and while halt was just like 'yeah I knew it' (he actually made a bet about it with crowley, but… you know), will was. well. caught off guard.
now, moving on from writing gilethen into the plot (it basically wrote itself I am so sorry, this was supposed to be short). time for more specific headcannons about them
they like to hug a lot, I think. or hold hands. sometimes, during a fight, they hold hands (selethen is very glad that gilan can fight with both of his hands). they don't have assigned pet names, but selethen probably calls gilan his sunshine sometimes. (gilan repays with calling selethen 'my love' to which he just melts)
gilan introduced selethen to blaze just after they started dating. selethen was very nervous about this (he found it quite ridiculous at first, but he quickly got over it when she bit him), and he almost had a cardiac arrest when gilan told him that he has to try and ride on blaze, and if she accepts him, she won't throw him off the saddle. of course, he didn't say a word about the special password, so we all know how it ended.
gilan still laughed at him because of that even ten years later.
this is getting out of hand, I have to finish now or else this monstrous thing will reach 3k words for sure
last but not least, after gilan's sudden death selethen couldn't stand living so close to the desert – it was his home, but it was also full of sunshine, and how was he supposed to move on if his sunshine was long buried under the green hills of araluen?
I am terrified that flanagan will actually kill gilan off so that will can be the corps commandant. that thought keeps me awake at night (and this, my fellows, is why I have two gilethen fics written)
alright that's it I'm finishing
selethen gifts gilan plants on every occasion he has – mostly ones that can be found in the desert, and gilan adores every one of them
no more headcannons that was the last one (...for now)
I would love to hear your takes on gilethen, so feel free to share!!

A RESIDENT EVIL 4 FANFICTION WHERE YOU, [NAME], HAVE BEEN ASSIGNED AN INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS MISSION. THIS ‘INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS’ MISSION IS ALSO YOUR FIRST BIG MISSION AS AN AGENT FOR USSTRATCOM. THIS WAS YOUR PROVING GROUNDS AND YOU DAMN SURE WEREN’T GOING TO MESS THIS OPPORTUNITY UP.
WELL, YOUR NEW PARTNER PROBABLY WOULDN’T LET YOU.
RINA’S NOTE: my first post!! hello all my cool cats and kittens. welcome to my brand spankin new resident evil 4 reader insert. i am going to heavily follow the story as much as i can, though outcomes will be different with you involved of course. this came to me after living under a rock + me not being into re as much anymore...then learning capcom was making a remake. i fell to my knees immediately. forgive me if i forget things from re i am a little rusty from y’know. leaving the fandom for so long—
originally this had a female reader in mind but i decided to make it gender neutral so everyone can be involved! to give a little insight, reader (you) is 25, has only 1 or 2 years of experience in usstratcom and tired of the bullshit being thrown at them. this is a various x reader and this is short yes but I HAD TO POST SOMETHINGFGG
RESIDENT EVIL © CAPCOM (pls don’t sue im broke i live off ramen noodles)
Tumblr media
Case File #6710, otherwise known to you as the biggest mission you’ve ever been assigned by the government. You’ve taken on simpler missions before, usually getting intel or infiltrating certain places. It pales in comparison to what you’re taking on now.
The President’s daughter, Ashley Graham, had gotten kidnapped at least seven hours ago. Not only was the President himself a mess, but it sent USSTRATCOM into chaos, passing out the mission to as many agents in the agency who’d they think would be able to complete this as soon as possible.
Shockingly enough, it fell into your court. Once you were given this file (which was already incredibly detailed, how?!), you didn’t exactly know what to say. “Thank you”? “I appreciate it”?
To top things off, you weren’t the only agent assigned to this case. You were going to be accompanied by a man named Leon Kennedy, who was a veteran and is FAR more experienced than you are. They must have figured you not only could be his second set of eyes, but provide extra offense if necessary.
You’d like it better if it was someone you knew. You’ve never met this man in your entire life. You two weren’t even in the same branch. All you’ve ever heard was your coworkers gossiping about him. How “he’s so mysterious” and “easy on the eyes”. Some people even said he was a jerk.
When you met him, he was quite the charmer. He insisted you simply call him Leon instead of any formality. Every time you’d let an “Agent Kennedy” skip, he’d shake his head and chastise you.
He’s….nice. But he was also quite the looker! When you first met him, your gaze would always linger a bit too long on him. You could only pray to whatever god that was out there that he didn’t notice.
What made things worse is that in the days leading up to the mission, you just kept seeing him around.
Oh, you need to get a report? No problem, Leon’s bringing it to you.
How about grab some coffee? That’s funny. Leon’s getting his coffee too!
In a meeting and people are coming into the room? Hey! Leon’s here to participate.
It was driving you nuts. Some kind of Baader—Meinhof phenomenon, some curse, whatever you’d like to call it. Guess the Earth just wanted you to suffer.
That’s not really important though.
The two of you would take a flight to Europe and rescue Ashley. They informed the both of you that she had been in a rural community in Spain and that you’d reach it with the assistance from local police officers. They also requested for you two inform your support what occurs on the mission.
You were nervous, rightfully so, this big mission coupled with a new partner had just given you the chills all around. It simply gave you more of a reason to prove yourself…
Don’t fuck this up, [Name].

it feels weird to confess this because it feels ungrateful but... it makes me uncomfortable when people tell me about their really detailed head canons about my IF, or tell me about their fanfiction. I don't know how to set boundaries more firmly because I am really happy that anyone's that into my IF, but I'm worried about people saying that I stole ideas from someone else's fanfic/headcanon once my book is out. I've seen that happen to other creators and it makes me nervous...
Hey Anon,
I don't think it's ungrateful or [insert whatever negative feeling you might have] to feel uncomfortable about this.
Creating a story can be a very personal process, and spending so much time on making your vision a reality can become very emotional. And seeing readers take the story to make it their own... It can be hard (especially if their canon goes against the OC).
Fanfiction and headcanons can be a wonderful things, and an indicator that people are enjoying what you are creating. But you shouldn't have to fell like you have to accept and read all of it. Having clear boundaries between you and the readers is good. It makes for a healthy relationship between you, your creation, and anyone interacting with it.
Same with setting new boundaries when you realise you are not ok with certain things. I've seen many authors through the past years changing their FAQ and making announcements that they were not accepting certain types of asks anymore, and that if those asks are sent, they would be deleting/ignoring them. Or if they have a discord, those discussions must be in a separate channel that is moderated by someone else.
Asking for a boundary not to be sent headcanon or fanfiction doesn't mean you are forbidding it. You can convey to your readers that you appreciate how much appreciation and interest your project has gotten, but that you would rather avoid seeing them (for the time being/altogether/until your project is complete/etc...) and so you ask them to avoid sharing them with you/tagging you in those.
If you don't have yet a FAQ or some sort of Ask Guideline, I would recommend you start one. :)
Traditional authors, lik Terry Pratchett was all for fan-fiction, as long as he didn't have to see it. You really are not alone in this :)

Hey I think I have to get rid of something (or confess XD) about you all wishing people would comment more on your blogs.
I don’t know why but I always feel a bit weird doing it.👀 If i am honest i only have strugle commenting on tumblr i don't know why. Maybe I think it’s because i think I don’t belong in that bubble like on Tumblr you always have blocks with the same interests commenting on your work or posts. This also depends a bit on the way tumblr just works people just in general don't comment much. Why should yourself then? Sometimes you have whole blogs self-talk here you know people read but do not answer.
I don't know maybe i think me as a normal user i don't count much in case of commenting 😅😂.
But lately i often read that you blogger actually wish people would comment more so here am i. Lately I have commented brav even if they were short but sometimes do i still strugle it is wierd idk. 🥲✨️
But in general I am a huge fan of your writings i am always happy when i see you post someting.❤️
Hello Anon!! 🤍
I hope you know that you can talk to me whenever!! And I definitely see where you are coming from. I didn’t interact with any other blogs for about 4 months, in fact it wasn’t until I started posting my fanfics that I started talking with other blogs, and for those four months all I did was lurk. I liked posts and I reblogged and that was about it. So, I completely understand being nervous and thinking that you don’t fit in!
Honestly, I cannot stress enough how important feedback is to content creators. And I promise you that every comment counts!!!
I promise you, hearing from new readers is amazing! It’s great to know my work is reaching a new audience! Some of the first people I talked to when joining the fandom were @nikethestatue and @thefangirlofhp and now they are some of my dearest friends! Elriels are incredibly welcoming and friendly, and I am stunned by how many friends I’ve made from this community. I’ve been in the fandom for a year now, and I don’t know if I would have lasted a year without my friends. Every relationship has to start somewhere, and I hope you get more comfortable interacting in the future. 🤍
I have talked to a few other creators about this, and we are more or less on the same page, but I certainly don’t want to speak for others without their permission. But I know others feel frustrated as well with the lack of feedback.
For myself, I spend can spend hours, days, and even weeks on a fic. I got very busy over this summer, so I could only work on YPMG a little at a time, but the latest chapter took months for me to write….and when you are dedicating so much of your time and effort on a piece of work, it can be very disheartening and discouraging if nobody reads it and/or comments on it.
Especially on tumblr, comments and feedback are the only way I really know that people have actually read my work. I will like a post so I can go back and find it at another time, or I will reblog something to signal boost and make sure that others can see it. If I reblog a fanfiction without having read it, then I’ll tag “tbr” just so the creator knows I haven’t read it yet.
Comments are incredibly encouraging!!! I am very appreciative of everyone who takes time out of their day to read my work, but comments are very special. How do I know what my readers like and don’t like if they don’t tell me? And I always start to spiral if I receive a lack of feedback on my work, and I realize that I get too much in my own head, but if a fic flops, then I just assume that it wasn’t very good and people didn’t like it.
I promise you that comments are always greatly appreciated!! 🤍🤍
Thank you so much for reaching out!! I know that it isn’t always easy to reach out, and I am really grateful that you took the time to write to me 🤍. It makes me incredibly happy to know that you read my work and enjoy it!! I loved hearing from you and I hope you reach out again in the future 🤍🤍🤍🤍

For the fanfic meme! 4. What detail in "i just called to say" are you really proud of? / 30. Have you ever written something that was out of your comfort zone? If so, what was it, and how did it affect your approach to writing fic thereafter? / 45. What’s something you’ve improved on since you started writing fic?
From the questions for fic writers:
4. What detail in "i just called to say" are you really proud of?
The fact that I was able to get Momo to ask Orihime she needed a shirt and it was Toushiro’s lol
But seriously! I think it was probably Momo and Orihime’s whole interaction for me! Like, the parts of the fic that were super solidified since the beginning was Momo receiving the shirt from Orihime and the last phone call with Toushiro. Everything in between those moments was still in flux because i just didn’t quite know how to write Orihime and Momo together!
I was very nervous because these are two characters that have never canonically interacted with each other (tho I think in the Brave Souls game there’s a moment between them in a Christmas party?) and I really wanted them to have a genuine connection and conversation.
30. Have you ever written something that was out of your comfort zone? If so, what was it, and how did it affect your approach to writing fic thereafter?
I think in terms of types of writing, that would be a fight scene. In one of my first fics on my old fanfiction account, I was writing about Momo sword fighting and Toushiro fighting thugs on the streets--but it always felt stilted and awkward for me. Personally, in reading manga, I tend to gloss over those types of scenes because it’s hard for me to follow so I just skip it lol. so maybe that’s why i’m not good at it haha
But, in recent writings, writing out of my comfort zone is writing characters that aren’t Toushiro, Momo or Rangiku haha. I’ve been writing hitsuhina fanfiction on and off for a really long time, so i’ve spent a lot of time with those characters. They’re very comfortable to me and I don’t have to think too hard about how they would react in a scene.
But in my two last fics, i just called to say & trepidation I had to write Orihime and Isshin a little more extensively so I found myself revisiting the manga and watching clips, reading their wikis to really understand their thought process. I don’t think i’ve completely mastered them, but I understand them more now than before.
I think it’s affected my writing now because I am a lot more curious how to write hitsuhina through the lens of other characters. That’s interested me more now than just writing the two of them solely together.
45. What’s something you’ve improved on since you started writing fic?
I would hope, believable conversations and pacing?
Again, looking back on my old fanfiction account stories, I think I had tendency to rush a scene with dialogue that may have felt too jerky? Also I fell into old tropes instead of the nuances that are really present in both Momo and Toushiro.
In my first long fic, I really didn’t know how to pace my writing. I spent way too much time on one scene, writing so so much, that it would tire me out instead of planning for hierarchy and thinking about how much time is needed for plot expositions vs transitions.
But I do enjoy looking at my old writing and comparing it to my writing now, because I feel like i’ve grown. but that just comes with practice, reading and trying new things :)

hmmm
I am working on ideas for a pre-Spidey, pre-villainy Spider-Man AU for some of my fave Spidey-villains, inspired strongly by the SSM versions but taking quite a bit as well from the comics and other sources and adding my own flair. I might work on it as a fanfiction project for NaNoWriMo? So basically, the catalyst is Miles Warren. He is not the main character; in fact, at a certain point, he slips from being one of the main four protagonists neatly into being a deuteragonist and then into one of the main antagonists, if not the main. He’s the catalyst because he’s the one who finds the secret, abandoned laboratory accessed from the basement of an abandoned building in NYC, a lab that lies under the city streets. He’s the one who decides to use it, and the one who decides to invite several other brilliant scientists he’s met to use it along with him. Under here is just kinda... character notes.
Miles Warren, the Jackal, early 40s First because (as said above) he’s the catalyst. A professor at the college Otto and Beck attend, he has also done work for Oscorp and met Adrian through that. Absolutely planning on shedding his humanity and probably already secretly a criminal. Ends up being responsible for helping save Electro, helping Chameleon, and helping Dr. Connors, but also experiments further on Connors, maybe turns John Jameson into a “werewolf,” is responsible for the spider-bite, clones the Venom symbiote and creates Carnage... He is very much amoral and more dangerous than his mild, calm, amiable manner suggests. Eventually goes full furry. Otto Octavius, Doctor Octopus, mid-20s A soft-spoken, meek biomimeticist that just wants a place to work when the college isn’t actually sold on their idea of wiring a rig directly into their own nervous system. An absolute genius in several connected scientific fields (zoology, biology, neurology, and med tech), they’re already at the tail end of their doctorate. Has problems at home, though not nearly as much as before their father died. Understands and gets along with tech better than people for the most part, but appreciates Professor Warren’s support and clicks astonishingly well with Adrian Toomes. Not really planning on crime but definitely has some repressed emotions; that goes to hell when someone tries to kill them and causes an accident. Adrian Toomes, the Vulture, late 40s/early 50s? A stubborn engineer at Oscorp who isn’t about to work on her own personal project (her flight suit) anywhere near where her employer can see it and lay claim to it. Incredibly passionate about flight; a bit more specialized than Otto (tech focus with an understanding of neurology and an interest in animals that does also lead to biomimetics). Older grouchy butch trans lady who has more patience for tech than people, but who gets along well enough with Warren (who is professional and good at what he does) and clicks shockingly easily with Otto. Not planning on crime at the start at all, that falls apart when Osborn somehow finds out about her flight tech and tries to claim it belongs to Oscorp. Quentin Beck, Mysterio, mid 20s An aspiring actor who’s currently primarily working backstage and mostly just getting understudy roles. Has a strong interest in practical effects and therefore, among other things, chemistry, and is actually legit brilliant at it; he’s double majoring in chemistry and theater arts at the same college as Otto and Professor Warren. They also already have some ideas about committing costumed crime with their skills. Also also you can use any pronouns for them so long as you’re referring to them. 8) Please talk about Beck. Chameleon, 30s? More minor character. An actor who is good friends with Beck, who very much wishes ey could shapeshift. Beck introduces em to some of their new friends, and Chameleon ends up working with Miles Warren to shed eir old identity completely… Maxine Dillon, Electro, late 20s/early 30s? An electrician with some interest in psychology who sometimes helps out at the theater, mostly because she’s friends with Mason. After an accident leaves her worse than electrocuted, Mason takes her to the lab rather than the hospital in an attempt to save her life (thanks to Chameleon’s whole deal), and Warren and Otto together help save her using electric eel DNA. Phineas Mason, Tinkerer, early 40s Also works as a stagehand at the same theater Beck and Chameleon are at; Mason is a technological genius who’s absolutely wasting his potential in a technical support job. He knows it, he’s frustrated about it, but he feels stuck. At first a secondary character until Electro’s accident gets him more involved with the main group, but he’s had feelings for Beck for a little while now. Other considered secondary and tertiary characters: Norman Osborn (obviously), Donald Menken, Dr. Connors, Eddie Brock and the Venom symbiote, the Carnage symbiote, Parker Reilly (trans Spider-Woman ;_;), May Parker, John Jameson, J.J. Jameson? Basically after a certain point I’d like a lot of the characters to start understandably slipping into revenge or other crimes. And then eventually for Parker to get bitten, but also approach the situation with sympathy even while trying to keep some of the characters from crossing lines. Not sure where I want it to go in the end, but yeah, that’s the basic idea so far.

aka me nerding out about things i like
Video Games !

currently into watching apex legends, league of legends, valorant, csgo (on occasion), breath of the wild, and some older jrpgs.
i have a goal of beating one major game a month! i love playing games but i often buy too many at once and then play one while forgetting about the others. i dont know if anyone else has that problem so i made a system (gonna get really nerdy for a second) where i track video game releases im interested in for each of my consoles and i pick one game from each month to play and hopefully beat and one game to buy a collectors edition for (if available).
recently completed games
dec-feb
god of war ragnarok
crisis core reunion
one piece odyssey (almost complete 80% of the way done)
games im excited to play soon
the persona ports (jan release)
fire emblem engage (jan release)
octopath traveler 2 (feb release) - collectors edition preorder!
theatrhythm final bar (feb release)
kirbys return to dreamland (feb release)
story of seasons (jan release)

ps vita (light blue/white)
wii (i never use it)
ds
2ds (blue)
dsi (light blue)
Anime / Manga !
i love anime and manga. ive grown up with it ever since i was around 5. i would stay up on saturday nights till 7 am when inuyasha would start playing on adult swim. if i was ever too tired i would record the episode on our dvr and would watch it after getting home from kindergarten. crazy age to watch inuyasha but i always found it so cool.
also grew up on naruto. i am such a naruto nerd i have rewatched the og and shippuden so many times i can tell people which episode events happened, i can sing the openings in order, i can name most characters, etc. the naruto brainrot is bad. same thing with bleach and dragonball z. the new bleach has me so hyped i loved watching every episode made me want to rewatch the main series but i have no time so i just watch small clips here and there.
i love just about every genre of anime tbh. sports animes (baki, hajime no ippo, kengan asura, one outs, eyeshield 21, etc). idol animes (idolish 7, tsukiuta, tsukipro, etc). shounen, mystery, shoujo, literally everything. i have to be in a certain mood to watch mech animes but whenever one comes out that catches my eye i put all my energy into watching it. i think the only genre i dont enjoy much is isekai, i used to like them but new ones come out too often i cant keep up.
currently watching
one piece (caught up)
blue lock
buddy daddies
monster
vinland saga s2
trigun stampede
yowapeda limit break
tokyo revengers s2
Cars !
my day to day guilty pleasure is cars. i love cars. they are cool, go fast, go stutututu, whine, be loud, have cool lights, i love everything about a good car.
i have a brz! bought it myself and it is my pride adn joy. it is one of my favorite cars and when i bought it in november i literally cried. I drive manual and its so fun to me! i want to learn how to drift but im a bit nervous because i dont want to accidentally mess up anything in my car.
Reading !
i love books i love reading. i love fiction, sci-fi, philosophy, nonfiction, fanfiction, everything. I was never into books like harry potter and anything with too many magical elements in them but always loved horror and more mystery thriller books.
i have been dying to buy more physical books to add to my mini library in my room but theres a few books on my backlog i need to complete before i do that.
i also have a slowly growing manga collection that i desperately need to add to.
i read all day all night on my phone but the feeling of flipping real pages is so satisfying and having the weight of a book in my bag is just so nice.
Music !
not to toot my own horn but my spotify wrapped minutes is always 140k+. i listen to music all day everyday. while doing homework, reading, driving, working, in class (pay attention dont be like me), watching stuff it doesnt matter. i have a terrible habit of getting bored of something very easily so i always multitask and need 20 things happening at the same time so music is amazing at keeping me focused.
i love 'underground archive', rnb, krnb, jpop, citypop, lofi, rap, edm, literally a whole lot of stuff. i dont like pop that much ive grown to realize same with country, i can listen to it but only if someone else wants to.
thats it! literally my whole being in a post.

Welcome to the Internet!
Hello folks, friends, and fellows,
I have never been very good at introducing myself to new people. I find that when meeting or interacting with anybody other than the four or so people I talk to on a daily basis - three of whom are my relatives - the sea of unknown faces washes away any witty, intelligent, or intelligible thoughts from my brain and leaves me with only nervous twitters and long-winded ramblings about my current special interest. This does not turn out too well if at the time said special interest is toxicology!
Even now my hands are sweating as I type out this post, despite knowing that very few people may actually end up reading it and those who do - well, hopefully you can find something likeable within my work. However, in spite of my relative social ineptitude I will attest to introduce myself.
I am the studious wanderer but I will also answer to Viola, Vi, or the girl crying over various pieces of lore. I love fantasy, historical fiction, poetry, (you can read two of my original poems on my blog - hopefully I'll remember to post some more soon!) and fanfiction. I also enjoy musical theatre, obscenely long sentences, making playlists, and video essays. At the moment my favourite books (in no particular order) are:
Passerine by thcscus (unabashed DSMP fan and also fanfic is a real genre I will die on this hill)
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
the collected poems of Ingrid Jonker
A Slow Regard of Silent Things by Patrick Rothfuss
My least favourite books would have to be A Sliver of Stardust and Hot Pterodactyl Boyfriend.
I am passionate about writing, reading, and consuming media in all its forms, but I also love engaging in conversation and discourse around media and its impacts and perception. I am also always, always here to talk and to listen and I hope that my blog can be a safe space. I want you to know that you are seen, you are loved, you are valid, and you are valued.
Please feel free to request works for review! As mentioned my favourite genres are fantasy, fanfic, and historical fiction, but I will read from pretty much any genre. This applies to other forms of media too - I usually watch dramatic movies in the style of Promising Young Woman, or movie musicals like Moulin Rouge, but I am always keen to broaden my content horizons and connect with you over your favourite pieces of media. Same goes for TV and video essays.).
A Few Rules:
I will not engage with media that contains graphic sex scenes, torture of any kind, or pieces from the horror genre, particularly supernatural/religious horror. No shade to the genre or the very talented creatives who inhabit it, it is just not really my cup of tea. My general rule is that if something is more violent or otherwise 'intense' than The Umbrella Academy then it is probably not for me. I also want to say from the get-go that my opinions on things are just that: opinions. I completely understand that my thoughts or views may differ from yours and I respect that difference - I really do not want to start any drama or harassment over book reviews. As mentioned, I want my blog to be a safe space where we can all chat and share thoughts about our favourite (or least favourite) things and make friends.
If you are still here, thank you for bearing with me through all of the formalities! I want to tell you all how genuinely excited I am to join this community. The thought of being able to share my thoughts, opinions, and love of words with like-minded people is so amazing to me and I am really really looking forward to it.
I am aiming to post a review every week provided that school or life does not totally derail me - fingers crossed! As a little 'get-to-know-me' I will be starting off with reviews of my favourite and least favourite books respectively so that you can learn a little more about me and I can learn a little more about you guys and the type of content you would like to see me put out in the future.
Here's to the start of a wonderful new adventure, dear readers.
Yours Sincerely,
T.S.W. (Vi)

Hey Carrie! You talked a little the other day about writers' tendency to start a fic too early in the story, and how you see a lot of first scenes that could have been scrapped to improve the story. My question is if you have some tips to recognize while writing that first scene that you are starting too early in the story?
Hello friend!
That's a really good question, and I'll see if I can give an answer that makes sense. I am not a professional, and I'm not educated or trained in this stuff, it's just something that I recognize from years and years and years of voracious reading. And as with all writing advice, I encourage you to take what I'm going to say with a grain of salt and remember that no writing rule is a hard rule, only a guideline.
Also, my advice is going to be pertaining fanfiction, and specifically to AUs. Obviously a published book has an editor with a razor blade going through a manuscript for you, and the problems that bother me in fanfiction crop up in AUs more than Canonverse.
Oh, and every instance of "you" is general, not specific 😜
So I think the main problem that I see is that people are starting with an Info Dump. An Info Dump is not always a bad thing, sometimes it's completely necessary, but it is NOT where you want to start your story. If it absolutely has to be done, it's better to be somewhere in the middle or near the end. When it's something that your characters need to know.
That's an important bit: Do your characters need to know this?
And related to that: Does your audience need to know this for the story to make sense?
And very important follow up: If the answers to the above questions are yes, does the character/audience need to know this RIGHT NOW?
There's a lot of information about your story that YOU need to know. Heck, my notes files are full of sooooooo much stuff that I know about the characters and plot that never reaches the final product.
So when you're reading your first chapter (I say reading, not writing, because sometimes info dumping for your own benefit is good, and then you fix it before you share the story lol), ask yourself those two questions.
So for example:
In an AU where Dean is a tattoo artist, and it's his POV. The story starts with Dean driving to work, and when he gets there he's going to find out that the empty shop next door has been purchased and is going to be a yoga studio. He meets Castiel out front, up on a ladder trying to hang a hand painted sign, and some teens go running buy and knock into the ladder and Dean has to catch Castiel from falling. (Anyone who wants to adopt this idea is welcome to it btw, I would love to read this lol)
The mistake I often see in a first chapter like this is that as Dean is walking to work, there's a whole Info Dump about why he's a tattoo artist instead of a hunter. He'll be ambling along, thinking about his nice little business, and there's info about how his mom died in a fire, and his dad was a jerk, and Dean didn't go to college because he saved his money for Sammy's college fund, and Dean's only passion was art, and Bobby Singer introduced him to a tattoo shop owner who took Dean under his wing, etc.
Question 1, does your character need to know this?: Why is Dean reflecting on his past? Does Castiel need to know this information in order to build a romance with Dean?
Question 2, does your audience need to know this?: Why does this information matter? If Dean's only reflecting on this because you want to make sure your audience knows where the timeline changed and this became an AU, then you're starting too early in your story. Dean doesn't need to know this, and honestly in a lot of cases the reader doesn't need to know this. This is information that should have been left in your notes file.
Question 3, does the character/audience need to know this NOW?: If this information is pertinent to the plot, like maybe there's some trauma there that Castiel might need to know about to develop their relationship, then you don't want to put it HERE, you want to put it in a conversation with Castiel LATER.
If I was writing this AU, I would just start with Dean sipping his coffee, he's kinda tired because reasons, he looks up to see an unusual commotion, and has to drop his coffee and sprint forward to catch Cas. If he's reflecting on anything in this scene, it's going to be whatever made him tired, or how good/bad the coffee is this morning. Since Cas is a new business owner, they can talk about the origins of Dean's business on their first date, because it'll be a relevant response to Castiel talking about the origins of his yoga studio.
And just in general, if Dean's origin story includes a lot of canon elements, like mom dying in a fire, dad being a deadbeat, Sammy being the adorable overachieving Stanford student.... try to hide that info for as long as you can so that the audience is actually curious about it by the time the info might pop up. It's the wild divergences that are more interesting earlier on.
Okay, and then I want to talk about my giant pet peeve for a starting chapter. It's a specific kind of info dump, that often includes the stuff from above, but then goes a step further.
My nemesis, The Daily Grind.
I haven't asked the authors, so I could be wrong about this, but I feel like most of the time when this type of chapter is included in a story it is because the author wants to show the reader that the character's life is boring and meaningless before the plot's inciting incident. I can absolutely see why that might be considered an important detail about the character, but keep in mind if it's boring and meaningless to the character, it's boring and meaningless to your audience.
You know how I said earlier that writing tips should never be hard and fast rules? Well this is in regards to that Show Don't Tell rule, and it's an example of TOO MUCH showing lol
It is possible to do a daily grind in an interesting way, but only if you include a Shake Up right away. And you have to look at the 3 questions a little bit differently.
So for example:
Castiel POV, and he works in an office. His daily routine is to always get up at the same time every day, he goes for his run, he grooms himself, he has his breakfast, he goes to work and talks to Kelly about how Jack's doing in kindergarten for a few minutes before going into his office. Adler comes in to be a prick, Castiel hates him for it, and then he does his reports, has lunch hiding in a corner of the lunch room so that his co-workers will leave him alone, he does more reporting, leaves an hour after his shift technically ends, goes home to a lonely apartment that maybe includes a pet who is the only being that shows him affection, has an unsatisfying dinner of leftover takeout while watching a mindless reality tv show, then he goes to bed.
Ugh.
BORING.
Which, yeah I get it, the point is that his life is boring. But now the story is too, and I've clicked the back button before I can see how exciting it's capable of getting.
Question 1, does your character need to know this?: No. He knows. Poor thing definitely already knows.
Question 2, does your audience need to know this?: Yes, but...
Question 3, does the character/audience need to know this NOW?: Yes, but new question for ya:
Optional Question 4, why does this need to be separate from your plot's inciting incident? The answer to this 4th question is usually that it doesn't.
Chapter 2 of this type of beginning usually shows the shake up of Castiel's day. My advice is to start with the shakeup, and sprinkle in the details of what you would have put into chapter 1 to show the contrast. It's far more interesting to learn how boring Castiel's day is by starting with the shake up.
So, same scenario:
Castiel's alarm doesn't go off for some reason, OH NO HIS ROUTINE IS SHAKEN UP! You're explaining his routine while also stressing him the fuck out because he has to rush, or skip something that he normally needs to do. Action! Interesting! He gets to work late, and has to miss his conversation with Kelly about Jack because she's telling him that Adler's already in his office being a prick because Castiel isn't there waiting for him like he always is. Oh shit, he's pissing off his asshole boss! Conflict! He's so flustered by the shakeups that he misses something on his report, and he gets a call from that new marketing guy Dean Winchester who asks if they can have a meeting about it when Castiel normally takes his lunch. BAM! MEET CUTE OPPORTUNITY! While Castiel is getting all flustered by how pretty Dean is while they talk about TPS reports, he can reflect on how this is both better and worse than hiding from his co-workers in the corner of the lunch room. The rest of the day after that meeting he's thinking about how weird this day is, he still goes home an hour late, he talks to his pet about his weird day when he gets home, and maybe he still eats leftover takeout, but he's not paying attention to the reality tv show because holy shit he wants to count Dean's freckles.
In this example, you're Telling the audience about Castiel's normal routine instead of Showing them. But since it's during a plot heavy chapter, it works!
Lemme see if I can TL:DR this...
As you're reading, ask yourself who needs to know this information, why do they need to know this information, and why is it important for this information to be included early instead of later?
If the answer to any of those questions boils down to "this is backstory" instead of "this kicks off the plot", then you've started too early.
I hope this helps? I'm always nervous about giving writing advice because so much of the time I have no idea what I'm doing, and I'm just feeling around in the dark. And I definitely do not ever want to hurt an author's feelings, because this hobby is so fucking hard, and we're all fragile. Even authors who welcome con-crit with open arms will have a weak point that they're unaware of that might get poked wrong and cause a crack, ya know?
I hope anyone who gets this far who might see their own works reflected in my examples understands that I have a lot of respect for their ability to put their work out into the world, and I want them to keep doing it. We're here to have fun, okay? Okay. I love y'all 💜

Alrighty, hun. I am here today to request for none other than our beloved himbo, Sherlock. How about a yan scenario where he wakes up from a nightmare (probably about S/O leaving him) and S/O comforts him? Have fun!
Oh absolutely!!! This himbo needs more appreciation in this community!!!!! I will populate the internet with Sherlock Holmes (DGS) fanfiction if I have to, I crave more from this boi.
Spoilers: Dai Gyakuten Saiban (The Great Ace Attorney)
TW: Implied kidnapping, implied threats, obsessive behaviour, nightmares
🔎Sherlock Holmes🔍
“N-no...Don’t go, don’t leave me. Not again. No, no...NO!”
Sherlock woke up with a start, immediately jolting forward as he gripped his hair in his hands and breathed heavily. The last few weeks had been particularly strenuous for Sherlock, the few hours of sleep that he got each night had been plagued with a multitude of nightmares, hours of torment that all followed one single theme.
S/O had left him again, and this time they had left him for good.
The dreams had probably started after S/O’s latest little attempt. It was roughly two months ago and he was so caught up in another case that he didn’t notice that his darling had picked the lock on their bedroom door and was making a break for it until they were already a good three quarters of the way down Crawford Street. That had been the closest that they had been to leaving him in some time and it absolutely terrified him to think that they would be out there without anyone to look out for them.
Normally, Sherlock would force himself to shake this new set of nightmares off and attempt to re-salvage his sleep. However, tonight, he just couldn’t fight that layer of fear that chilled his bones and made his throat tighten up. He found himself pulling the covers off of himself and getting out of bed. If he could just check on S/O, just to make sure that his nightmares were not some horrible vision of events that had truly occurred, then his fears could be temporarily soothed. He found himself sneaking through his flat, careful not to wake Iris up as he walked to S/O’s room. Unlocking it, he was instantly relieved with the sight of S/O who was asleep, completely oblivious to the fact that he was in their room.
Sherlock found himself walking over to their bed to watch them more closely, they looked so peaceful...so carefree to everything, a far cry from their usual nervous expression and flighty disposition. After a few minutes of just observing, Sherlock drew an arm out to gently touch their shoulder, relishing in the feel of their skin under his own, he then slid next to them, wrapping his arms around them tightly and laying his head on top of their own. After about ten minutes of him just holding S/O in his arms, he felt S/O stirring from their own sleep. They immediately seemed to tense up as they realised that something…or someone was currently restricting their movement.
“...Sherlock…? W-what are you doing?” S/O sussurated. At this point they were completely still while Sherlock slowly let go of them and sat up, S/O turned around to face him and was somewhat taken aback by his rather forlorn expression. They quickly sat up themselves and looked at him nervously as he clasped their hands into his own.
“It’s silly really, just a nightmare that I’ve been having, I just wanted to check on you. I didn’t factor in the chance that I might wake you up. I do apologise.” Sherlock rambled while continuing to play with S/O’s hands. S/O let out a short sigh before slowly pulling their hands away from his and moving them towards his shoulders before pulling him into a gentle hug. This time, it was Sherlock’s turn to tense up as he realised what was happening. A shuddered breath escaped his throat as he looked down at S/O who had gently looped their arms around his middle and laid their head against the middle of his chest.
“I-I’m sorry Sherlock..” S/O whispered while rubbing little circles into his back. Sherlock sighed and looked down at them tiredly, leaning into the affection that was being given to him so willingly. “Please don’t leave me, I was so scared….something might have happened, something could still happen.” Sherlock shuddered while raising his own arms to tightly wrap S/O into them, S/O pulled their head away to look at him, eyes wide with an unrecognisable emotion shimmering within them.
“I-I’m not...I’m not escaping, please Sherlock I promise I’m not escaping.” They begged, pulling their arms away to grip onto the front of his shirt, Sherlock took this opportunity to press them closer to his chest as he laid his head against their neck.
“Shhh…I know, I’ve just been ever so worried since that last little attempt of yours, but I know that you wouldn’t try to escape me again, it would be illogical to attempt it.” Sherlock breathed while looking down at S/O, who had let out a rather long yawn as they tiredly slumped their head against his chest and looked well on their way to falling asleep.
“Laying next to you is truly a miracle cure, my darling.” Sherlock whispered, while slowly sliding down to lay next to them. He pulled them back into his arms as he felt asleep calling him once more, he hoped that with the knowledge that S/O was wrapped tightly up in his arms that the nightmares would cease to cause him grief for the rest of the night.
