(long post, strap in)

i wanna talk about colin's wet dream. that was the most demisexual shit i have EVER seen. there's not even any sex. its just a romanticized, elevated version of their first kiss. its colin's subconscious wanting to replay the moment he fell in love with his best friend in the Most way possible.

lets break it down:

we got the same location of their first kiss. Complete with mood lighting and a fog machine. It’s giving pride and prejudice 2005

Penelope comes out (looking gorgeous, of course) to their rendezvous spot, which has been previously agreed on.

colin thanks her for meeting him, she doesn't know why he's asked her to come

he confesses his feelings for her

she reciprocates (this is the important part of this to me. ) her wanting him, makes him want her more (do you see where the demisexual colin energy is coming from? do you understand?)

they make out

he kisses her neck as she pants his name over and over (see my point above re: her wanting him makes him want her more)

he wakes up, absolutely shook

this is an idealized reimagining for colin: during their first kiss he was basically in shock, his new personality chokes on the reality and vulnerability of the moment

in the book he talks about how he tries to think of something witty to say but finds that no words are necessary, and there's no combination of witty banter or suave bravado that could help in that moment. the rake persona that he has put on up to this point absolutely fails him. but here, in this dream, words are crucial, the declarations of love are why its sexy! (demi colin is canon idc idc)

and its so important that this wet dream, the idealized version of this scenario happens like this. because we've also seen colin having sex with sex workers (and luke newton has talked about this) but his energy in those scenes is very detached, very focused on him and his pleasure with zero connection to the women he's with. he has two different threesomes (if you can even call the second one that, he's barely even looking at them) with four different women and we know nothing about these girls. they don't even get names. they don't matter, and its simply not. as. good. as the feeling of kissing pen. there is no connection

which is, i think, why he taps out during the threesome in ep4. he tries to go back to the devil-may-care attitude toward sex and intimacy that he had before kissing pen, he tries to return to that mask he put on of "the rake" and it just doesn't work! he feels nothing! in fact he feels disdain for the position he's in and the choices he's made!

the threesome in ep4 mirrors the outburst he has later at the club really well. like he's so frustrated with this position he's put himself in, the men he's surrounded himself with. he literally says "none of you are gentlemen!" "you're actually gross and disrespectful!"

a line that i love is :

"... it is tiring, is it not? The necessity imposed on us to remain cavalier about the one thing in life that holds genuine meaning. Do you not find it lonely?"

and they laugh! in! his! face! because these are men that feel perfectly fine sleeping with strangers and bragging about their "conquests" to their buddies

but that is not who colin is! he's still very young. and his experience with marina (who tried to seduce him and it didn't work, imo bc he just didn't feel that passion, that love that makes his relationship with penelope so different) has left him jaded, but not nearly as jaded as he wants to believe. even if he wants to be casual about romance and sex, he just isn't. this man proposed to marina after knowing her for what? a couple weeks? He is an All or Nothing type of guy. He has that Bridgerton 'when i fall in love i will only ever talk about my spouse' Gene

Now: some costuming details that i love:

Her hair:

(i know this is a stretch but go with me here) her hair is in slightly tighter curls than we've seen this season, which to me seems like a nod to colin liking (or at least not minding) her hair the way it was in previous seasons and maybe not caring as much as we might think about her transformation. but its still down and flowy and in line with her new style

let's talk about this! dress! (it has genuinely been keeping me up at night)

the sleeves seem much more similar to the silhouettes of her costumes in previous seasons, not necessarily in shape but in style

the sleeves are bulkier, compared to this season's costumes, which while they might have been the same size and shape, they are made of much lighter material, giving the silhouette a softer, more mature feeling.

compare it to this dress from s3 ep2: it looks very similar with the sleeve shape and the floral appliqués, but in the dress in the image above, the appliqués are much more obvious, closer to penelope's style under her mother's tastes

the point i'm trying to make here will be made more clear in a sec. what I am NOT trying to say that colin prefers her in her little girl dresses with loud designs, bright colors, and silly hairdos. he just associates those bigger, brighter, louder style choices with penelope.

And he has always liked Penelope. Even when he didn’t take her seriously as a potential partner, he always saw her as an equal. He never made fun of her silly dresses and questionable hair choices.

This has nothing to do with Colin but i feel like i should point it out:

there is something to be said about how her muted pastel color palette along with the more demure style that she has adopted shows that she is trying to Show Up with this social season, but as a wallflower, she is shy. she's always hated those brightly colored dresses her mother put her in, because no matter how close to the wall she clung, she was always visible. she was always vulnerable to ridicule.

but i don't think colin knows or realizes this because why would he think critically about the specific style changes she's made. and he probably doesn't really make the connection of the influence her mother has on her clothing. and around him, pen has never seemed all that shy. she's been confident and witty. if you pair her personality that shines around colin with her louder outfits, it seems more congruous

(take the scene from season 2 where we get the line "My purpose shall set me free") this is a side of penelope that no one, not even eloise!, sees

what his subconscious knows is that he associates pen with vibrant, textured, and often 3-dimensional outfits, and his subconscious creates a dress that fits her new style, with a little more of that featherington flair thrown in.

the fucking tie in front: i feel like this is a very clear reference/ foreshadowing to the mirror scene

for those of you who haven't read the book, the mirror scene doesn't actually happen, but colin tells penelope about a fantasy he has about touching her in front of a mirror

this is a pretty small offhand comment made while they're having sex for the first time but amongst book fans the scene has become pretty fleshed out i think, with fanfics especially

because the idea that it touches on is colin fantasizing about penelope seeing herself the way he does, as sexy and desirable (he seriously cares about her pleasure so much its sickening, I'm actually sick)

and although Book Colin doesn't mention it, the idea of him undressing her in front of a mirror has become a popular story set-up

i think the tie in the front sort of plays on the time period sensibilities of propriety: this is a time where in "good" society an unmarried man and woman would never touch skin to skin, its why all the women wear gloves most of the time. its why the scenes in season 1 between daphne and simon play on the excitement of removing the gloves: its a taboo thing

this is unrelated to this post but i need an explanation as to why pen isn't wearing gloves in a lot of her scenes this season, like the scandal that that would cause??? I'm assuming its representative of her growing into her sexuality; and bridgerton is a fantasy, not a historical nonfiction, but like some consistency would be nice guys bc i was so confused abt all the skin-on-skin contact happening. even with Francesca and Lord Samadani WHEN HE KISSES HER BARE HAND I WAS SO UNCOMFORTABLE FOR HER. especially because of all the glove-related tension in s1. but i digress.

so the tie in front is sort of a dare. even though its clearly an addition, and untying wouldn't actually remove her dress, its her (colin's subconscious version of her anyway) way of saying: "you could untie this, you could undress me if you wanted to" "i love you" "i want you"

and i think that's beautiful. this season is great and i will die on this hill.

Aventurine definitely disliked you at first, and the feeling was mutual, to say the least. He saw your cruelty first-hand, the way you kept people under your thumb and on tight leashes, something he always hated, until he eventually noticed that your intentions were alot more complicated than that.

He finds himself bonding with you over your love for gambling, your feelings developing over many late night games accompanied by long, sophisticated talks that bordered on near offensive to the IPC itself. Your secret, layered hatred was shared.

After countless casual games of cards later, he finally made a bet that peaked your usually rather indifferent interest in him. If he won the next game, he'd win your heart. You ofcourse found it amusing, going as far as agreeing as you believed yourself to be unbeatable... until you weren't. Your loss was met with an amused laugh, however, an evil grin on your lips, as you simply agreed to be his in your own twisted ways.

Your relationship was purely transaction for a while but eventually developed into a much deeper connection. Romance was hard for the both of you, and yet you still found an irreplaceable bond no one else could ever replicate for the both of you.

People outside of your relationship definitely think that you're using each other when that is far from the truth. You keep him safe from the IPC's wrath whilst he keeps you safe from any dangers from the outside of the organization.

He knows that he's miraculously spared from your cruelty for a reason and sees it as your way of proclaiming your love for him whilst he spoils you rotten.

No one may understand why you two are together, but you don't care, as long as you have each other in the end.

I really love this dynamic, anon! It's really interesting considering Aventurine's past, but I still think it could work with enough time and patience... with that said, thank you for the great ask, and I'm glad you loved my Kanna Kamui Reader!!<33

Note: happy Masema Monday. I'm fully expecting this to flop, so I will say beforehand; this is supposed to be a fic with at least one more chapter, but it truly depends on how this is received if I will put my time and effort in the follow up chapter(s). This is the first time I am attempting modern!Masema completely standalone in a long fic, so naturally; I'm nervous as shit for this.

Warnings: 18+! suggestive, toxic romance.

Masema.

His name was Masema. The name of the man who had captured your heart and soul, and had kept it safely inside his own beating chest for as long as he could. Safely tucked away until it went wrong one day. So very wrong. You still didn't understand how your deep and devoted love for each other had also turned to be the sole cause of tearing you away from each other in the end.

You cried as you watched Masema slowly walk past you, his wrists cuffed while two officers on each side made sure he didn't attempt an escape. He looked at you, his face stern and his mismatched eyes determined; this wasn't the last time you would see him. You both knew it, and he blew you a kiss before he was shoved out of the courtroom. And then all eyes were fixated on you, as it was now your turn to hear the judge's verdict; to hear the sentence you'd have to endure for your committed crimes.

Your life with Masema had started so sweetly and innocently after you had both fallen in love head over heels within no time. You were inseparable ever since the moment you first met and became completely devoted to each other. Friends and family outed their concerns about the fast pace your relationship had and with the intensity it came, but neither of you ever listened; all you needed and cared for was each other. Slowly but surely you both started to live a life secluded from past connections. You both disagreed with everyone that didn't support or understand your relationship, and you even went as far as cutting off every contact and tie with family and friends.

Masema was the air in your lungs and you were the blood in his veins.

You were both equally possessive and obsessed with each other. And just like your relationship had started innocently, your crimes had also started out rather petty and innocent. In the beginning it was just a way to turn a carefree shopping spree on a lazy Sunday afternoon into something exciting. And you vividly remember the day you found out that you and Masema enjoyed the same kind of thrill.

You had only been together for a few weeks when you decided to take a spontaneous trip to a garden centre. You strolled the aisles together, until you were drawn to the wall with packages of flower and vegetable seeds and you left Masema's side mindlessly while he was checking out the tool section. Your eyes scanned the dozens of pretty pictures on the packages while your hands lightly touched those you were captured by, and you could already imagine all of the seeds growing in the garden you would once have with the love of your life. And it was also the love of your life who made you nearly jump out of your skin, when he snuck up behind you and circled his arms around your waist.

'Don't stray, sweetheart,' Masema murmured in your ear, 'I don't like it when you leave my side.'

'Sorry,' you said with a soft giggle as he spun you to face him, your fingers quickly snatching three small packs of seeds you had your mind set on, and you swiftly shoved them in your backpocket.

'It's okay,' he smiled and kissed your lips.

'Have you ever stolen?' you suddenly asked without thinking.

Masema leaned back and furrowed his brow as he looked at you.

'What do you mean?'

'Have you ever stolen something? Like… from a shop?'

Masema looked around as he allowed your question to soak in. He then chuckled and somewhat awkwardly scratched the side of his head.

'Why are you asking, sweetheart?'

'Because I have,' you blurted out.

'Have you now?' Masema asked, and a sly smile appeared on his face.

'Mhm,' you hummed, suppressing a grin.

'Like what?'

'Perfume,' you said rather nonchalantly, 'and jewellery. Things like that.'

'But why?'

'Because,' you shrugged, your hands on his chest, 'if I can take it without being caught, then I deserve to keep it. So… have you?'

Masema scoffed at how easy you confessed your story to him, then he laughed and just shook his head while he ushered you to move out of the aisle you were in.

'We should keep moving,' he said softly, 'if you don't want to get caught with those three bags of lavender seeds in your backpocket.'

Once you were back in the car, after having strolled through the rest of the store hand in hand while stealing sweet kisses and even making out sloppily in the large house plants section, Masema suddenly threw five packs of tulip seeds in your lap. You looked up at him, confused and speechless, because you knew for a fact you both hadn't paid for anything upon leaving the store.

'When… h-how-'

'You're not the only one who steals, darling,' Masema smiled and winked, then started the car.

And that's how it all started.

You quickly learned how smooth Masema was with his theft, and he in turn realised how well you could work together when it came to committing small crimes. Your favourite memory from those early days together was probably the one where you first both stole something that had been unplanned, it had just happened naturally.

You were in a fancy lingerie shop, one you knew you couldn't afford as you were browsing through rows of lace and satin underwear, picking out items here and there to try on while Masema quietly followed you with a half mischievous smile on his face. Every time you turned to look back over your shoulder, you felt your knees weaken at the sight of him, all dressed in black; slim fitting jeans with black boots underneath, and a black shirt that showed off his physique underneath his unzipped leather biker jacket. You couldn't get enough of him, and Masema was just as insatiable as you were. And as if the tension between you two wasn't enough yet, it quickly thickened as you explored the shop further.

You then disappeared into one of the fitting rooms to try on some panties over your own, just to see if they'd fit, and then Masema suddenly snuck past the curtain and smiled when he laid eyes upon your bare legs.

'Let me see how that thong looks on you,' he murmured in your ear as he looked at you in the mirror in front of you both.

He took a step back while you lifted your shirt to give your man a good look. Masema then placed his hand firmly on your buttock, massaging your skin while he pressed his chest against your back and swiftly nudged you towards the mirror, against which he leaned his free hand and so lovingly trapped you between the glass and his body, with your legs spread.

'You like those?' he whispered, his lips grazing your ear while his eyes were still fixated on yours in the mirror.

'I do,' you smiled and teasingly pushed your ass back against his crotch, 'I like all of them, but they're expensive.'

'Let me get them for you, sweetheart,' Masema said with darkened eyes, and he squeezed your ass as he kissed sweetly behind your ear.

Before discreetly leaving the fitting room, Masema had tucked the expensive underwear in the inside pocket of his jacket. You kindly greeted the cashiers on your way out, but you froze when the alarm sounded as soon as you stepped outside, while Masema looked unbothered. You returned inside the store and allowed the employees to search your bag, and you were quickly cleared as the alarm didn't seem to be triggered by you.

You watched how Masema took off his leather jacket, immediately enchanting the young ladies behind the checkout with his muscles and smooth voice once he spoke to them.

'It could be my jacket,' Masema said to the smitten cashier, 'I think there's a label in there that sometimes triggers the alarms.'

Masema then threw his jacket on the counter and stepped through the doors again. Of course you weren't surprised the alarm didn't sound, but what you didn't realise right away was that Masema had thrown his jacket on the counter for a reason, as he had shoved it right onto the magnetic area that disables the store's alarm labels. So when he put his jacket back on again and left the store, no alarm sounded and he politely apologised for the inconvenience.

'Sorry,' he said with his alluring voice, 'I'll need to have a look at the jacket back home and cut out any tags left.'

You smiled in awe at Masema as you continued to the next store, his arm around your waist constantly, keeping you close. The only time you strayed from his side was in a jewellery store, where he engaged in a conversation with the salesman about a fancy watch, while your quick fingers stole a silver bracelet for your lover, unbeknownst to both men.

Masema could've stolen it himself, no doubt about it, but Masema was the type who didn't enjoy stealing fancy things for his own use anymore. He only got a thrill out of it knowing he'd steal it for you, and you were more than aware of that by then already, so you knew that no matter how much he liked the bracelet, he wouldn't have taken it for himself. And only back home would you surprise him with it.

Masema sat back on the couch when you stepped out of the bedroom, wearing nothing but one of the pretty lace panties the man you loved had stolen for you. And he clearly enjoyed the way you showed them off for him as you straddled his lap and kissed his cheek.

'Thanks for the gift,' you giggled softly in his ear as you felt his warm hands on your waist.

'Anything for my love,' he said with a half smile while his eyes darted over your naked figure.

'And I,' you then said and reached for the small box on the cabinet behind the couch, 'got something for my love too.'

You handed Masema the box and his eyes widened in surprise for a second before he smiled widely, and without asking any questions he allowed you to place the heavy yet delicate silver chain around his wrist.

'I love it,' Masema said softly, then looked up at you and took your chin firmly, 'and I love you,' he pressed a gentle kiss to your lips before he playfully flicked his tongue against them, 'you and I, my divinity,' he whispered as his other hand moved down to your buttocks, 'we could steal the whole world together.'

kb/ms is truly transcendental yaoi, spectacular, amazing, 10/10, no notes ... from the perspective of a mithrun enjoyer

as a kabru enjoyer, however...

I'll start off by saying that of course Kabru doesn't want or need a romantic relationship to be fulfilled, especially not with a white man, none of them do, it's all non-canon, Dungeon Meshi isn't about romance or shipping, yes yes yes, but none of us are here for that right now!! We're here to fruitlessly argue why my blorbos kissing makes more sense than your blorbos kissing!! You know it, I know it, none of us are free of cringe!! Clown on clown violence!!

That being said ... 🤡

I just don't see what Kabru gets out of kb/ms. With Mithrun, it makes sense; Kabru has a huge impact on him and ultimately helps him reaffirm his will to live. That's very exquisite drama and excellent character writing. But with Kabru, I just don't feel that Mithrun's character interacts with his personal flaws and would instigate his growth anywhere close to the same degree. I have to imagine most fics involving them focus more on Mithrun's baggage and how Kabru helps him heal from that ... because that's mostly all that happens between them in the main story, lol!

And like, that makes sense, because ultimately chapters 61-62 aren't about Kabru and Mithrun; they're about Kabru working through his conflicted feelings in helping Laios conquer the dungeon. I think it's ironic seeing people complain about kb/ms having Kabru be Mithrun's accessory when, if anything, Mithrun's main narrative purpose, outside of illustrating the danger of the Winged Lion, is to serve as Kabru's obstacle. I'd even argue Mithrun represents Kabru's personal bad ending; Mithrun wants him to kill Laios and surrender the dungeon to the canaries, preventing the short-lived races from ever understanding how dungeons function and returning to the status quo that had gotten Utaya destroyed. It's only when Laios practically forces Kabru, straight up puts his thumbs to the screws, to work past his reticence and be emotionally vulnerable that Kabru finally puts himself on the right path to achieve his goals (it's, uh, still a bit of a bumpy ride, but they get there in the end, lol!). If he'd been this way with Laios from the beginning, he might have understood Laios' intentions from the start and saved himself a lot of pain, but it's only because of Laios' influence that Kabru is able to grow as a character and get his happy ending.

(And even if one were a Mithrun enjoyer, ultimately the main source of Mithrun's life affirmation comes from the canaries. In that final scene, Kabru gets the ball rolling because he's outside of the canary hierarchy, but the scene ends with Mithrun being embraced by the canaries and as far as I'm aware the two don't interact with or reference each other post canon at all. Hell, it's Senshi who really drives the point home. Not that it matters when we're all wearing shipping goggles here, but it felt remiss not to mention it.)

At most, I can see how taking care of Mithrun would force Kabru to reexamine how poorly he takes care of his own body and that could make for some good drama. But even then, that change is ultimately instigated by Laios' influence on him, an extension of how Kabru wants to understand how Laios can see the value in monsters in an attempt to better understand his own trauma. If a person were to get into Dungeon Meshi specifically for Kabru and wanted to ship him with someone in a way that's most interesting for him, I'd be hard-pressed to argue there's a better choice than Laios (although who'd be cringe enough to do something like that haha right guys ... [sweating])

(Side note, though, I really don't vibe with the argument that kb/ms "reduces Kabru to a caretaker role" and that's why it's bad. There's plenty of instances where Kabru shoulders his friends' burdens (helps Kuro learn common tongue, listens to Daya's fiance about his relationship troubles, etc) and, more importantly, is seemingly happy to do so. I think Kabru genuinely enjoys looking after his friends and in the story seems to find plenty of personal satisfaction getting Mithrun to eat. I understand it has the potential to be more troubling considering Kabru is a brown man and Mithrun is a white man, but idk, it just feels on the same level as people trying to discount labru by saying Laios wouldn't take enough of an interest in people to want to start a romantic relationship, when his whole thing is that he does want to connect with people and just feels like he can't. It's not a bone I feel like picking, haha)

I honesty don't mind characters being "mischaracterized" in fandom or fic even to a large degree, I know it bugs a lot of people but I respect that ultimately fandom is little more than picking up the vague outline of a doll and playing with it and mashing their faces together. Besides, if I'm really worked up about it I can just write a fic and set the record straight myself, haha. This post is merely inspired by the supremely annoying subsection of twitter that acts like labru is the ship where it's just two dudes sitting in a room together. I'm just saying, Kabru ends the series whispering into the ear of another man as his day job and it's not Mithrun lmao

I haven't said too much on the QSMP situation so I am going to try to at least share my thoughts, as of right now.

First of all : thank you to everyone in this project who did their best through adversity and a corrupt management, you all deserve the world.

To the eggs & capys & penguins & every other admin I will remember the characters you gave us for the rest of my life. Thank you, this past year has been one of my best creativity-wise and I have written nearly as much for this fandom as I did DSMP. You taught me a lot about character writing and found families in times of chaos, I will always think of you fondly.

Now, I want to discuss a few of the things I am disappointed with.

Starting off with how the egg arc ended.

Stories, to have full meaning and impact to me, leave the endings at a point where you want what's best for the characters. You want a chance to see the character development bloom [Hideduo mainly] and having it be so abrupt left us all reeling. It was so awfully familiar as someone who came from DSMP, it left a bitter taste in my mouth.

I do not blame the admins or ccs one bit here.

It's more...I wish there had been at least one last hurrah. Something Avengers level where we watched them all team up, clear out the Federation and maybe the Watcher too, and leave peacefully. Something that gave them all that one last interaction, a reminder of how through trials and trouble anyone on that island would have given their life for any child, their own or otherwise.

Every single person who woke up on that island went through development and due to miscommunication and watching the server slowly perish for months, it feels horrific to watch them all die one by one without being able to see the fruits of their labour. I am begging for fan made content to fill the hole in my heart left by that ending.

It hurts so much because I loved them all so deeply.

I mained Death Family content because I came into this fandom as a crow and adored how their little unit came to be. A son and a daughter with their damaged father who always did their best for one another. Sure, only one *maybe* was good at communication but they all tried. The effort was there. And the old crow hermit on the wall slowly became one of the most trusted members of the island due to the dedication for his family and friends.

Then I slowly became interested in FitMC's content after watching him hang out with Phil for months, and became a huevito instantly. The relationship he created in /rp with Pac was the first time in a long time I allowed myself to indulge in romance-based content [coming from a former SBI main, that should make sense]. I still remember the panic seeing the shipping art covering my timelines and checking boundaries before I realised this was something they both encouraged.

Fit and Pac came to represent a lot in my heart ; two damaged people moving at the pace both decided in order to form the family neither of them ever had. An ex prisoner and a veteran of toxic wastelands found home in one another's lives, enough they allowed their precious children to become bonded with their significant other.

They never said I love you, instead showed it through acts of service and protecting each other without question. They may not have kissed but they were always beside each other within the same space, only a short step away in case either needed support.

I will miss you forever, your characters were fantastic. I hope there are many more collabs in the future, your dynamic means a ton to a lot of people now.

Same goes to many more characters on that island I don't have the energy to do full write ups on but please know, you occasionally show up in my thoughts and another wave of mourning what I love passes over me. Death and Rosa Family were the ones I fixated on, nearly instantly, and I will create using them for a long time. I want to write their characters in a way that satisfies me, I still have to match my level of DSMP writing and beyond after all.

I want to also send appreciation to the streamers I found because of QSMP, it did what was intended and broke language barriers in ways I will forever be grateful to the translations mods that are becoming more common so I can still watch their content.

Cellbit, Baghera, Etoiles, PacTW, Mike, Roier, Luzu, you all are so cool! I enjoy your content and can't wait to watch more in the future.

Philza, Tubbo, Foolish, Charlie Slimecicle, Jaiden, Badboyhalo, FitMC, some of you I knew before and some I got to know better now, I adore you all.

All I hope for at this point is any future project takes what needs to be learned from watching this server slowly implode and please treat your employees right. Especially in creative ventures, we need the hope there can be confidence people are being treated right behind the scenes.

And to any of the QSMP CC's, I beg there are gaming collaborations and meetups in the future. You all have fantastic chemistry and I hope the families that were formed can continue to support each other.

To the admins. Thank you. I could say it a thousand times over and it would never be enough. You endured literal purgatory because you loved the plots and people so much, you deserve only the best in your future.

I intend to indulge in the egg content for the forseeable future, even if at this point I will just be VOD watching but there are still a few POV's I have wanted to watch in full and now seems like the best time. I do have several WIP I wish to finish and they make perfect inserts if I ever need characters for any new plots I imagine in the future.

Saudade QSMP Egg Arc 2023-2024. You taught me a lot within the short period of a year, you united many communities and heres to hoping we stick together long into the future.

I am sorry for the long post, I needed to spill my thoughts somewhere and tumblr's blogging format is ideal.

Let’s keep creating content surrounding the eggs and families we now miss. I understand if many move on but to me, this interest is one I will remember forever and happily talk about to anyone willing to hear me out. Just like Techno, they live on through me as long as I remember them.

I actually don't think they're very similar 🤷🏻‍♀️

And the thing is, they don't have to be?

They do have one important thing in common though, kind of a non-negotiable in romances - they actually like each other and are attracted to each other

I like Elriel honestly because they're not like Feysand or Nessian. They're not screaming kicking enemies to lovers. They're not even mates (that we know of right now). But they still seek each other out. Bask in each others company. Find peace in one another. Understand each other without even words or that many interactions on the page. And god, do they have some ~sexual chemistry~ !!

It's refreshing to see a couple that's not enemies to lovers coming from SJM. She does a lot of the banter and fighting and angry fucking - but she rarely does the soft romance. I think Chaol/Yrene or Elise/Lorcan are the pairings I'd compare Elriel to, not Feysand or Nessian.

And again - Elriel doesn't have to be like Feysand or Nessian. Even if Elucien were to happen, I don't think it would happen like Feysand or Nessian. Simply because that's not Elain's character - end of story.

But people who ship Elucien like to say their ship is also like Nessian or Feysand which is why they think is endgame. Except it's not like them, in the sense that Elucien actively avoids each other and has no chemistry or mutual attraction (that we have currently seen). Eluciens tend to explain away their mutual avoidance of each other by saying "oh well that's how Feysand and Nessian started too" in an effort to justify their ship. Not realizing when they use that excuse, it's completely going against Elain's character as a whole.

Objectively, Lucien & Elain are nothing like the other two couples. And again - they don't have to be - but that's all I've seen antis use as an argument. Frankly I think trying to say Elain & Lucien are better suited for each other personality wise is a far better argument for Elucien than trying to compare them to Feysand and Nessian 🤷🏻‍♀️ (don't get me wrong I don't agree with that, but at least it's a stronger argument than saying Elucien is going to be just like Feysand/Nessian)

It makes no sense that people are comparing any pairing with Elain to pairings that are very clearly enemies to lovers, with both characters in the relationship being complete opposites of someone like Elain. People keep bringing up that oh "Rowan punched Aelin in the face" or "oh Rhys broke Feyre's arm" and I think it's just like comparing apples and oranges.

I don't believe it's in Elain's character to have any kind of "enemies to lovers" relationship. You can't compare her to someone like Nesta or Aelin or Feyre. Her personality itself is completely different.

In other words: If Lorcan had broken Elise's arm - or if Chaol had punched Yrene in the face - do you think either of those women would have then gotten with their LI? I don't think so.

An Elriel relationship fits perfectly with both their personalities. They don't have to be like Feysand & Nessian to still be endgame and still be a solid pairing.

Honestly if I do have to read another enemies to lovers, angry banter, borderline abusive couple from SJM - I might skip the next book entirely. Elriel is different, Elriel is fresh, and Elriel is coming 😍

Some thoughts about Jason's route in future chapters

One of the things I like most about Jason's route is how different it looks like it's going to be.

I'm doing Jason, Thomas and Amanda's routes. At the moment I love all three for particular reasons, and although we don't know what will happen in future chapters, at least with Thomas and Amanda I've a certain feeling of stability because I know that I'll see them often in future chapters and I can more or less figure out how it will flow my Sucrettes' relationship with them once the romance is established. I think that, barring the drama that may happen when they find out that we were dating our married boss at our previous company, our relationship with most routes will be pretty sweet and secure.

Not with Jason.

And that also fascinates me.

On the one hand it is true that it can be frustrating, since we will have very little time with him in each chapter compared to the other routes, but on the other hand, with Jason there is always the mystery of: how will happen this interaction with him in this chapter? Where will we find him? Will we have the chance to be alone with him soon? What will happen if we flirt with him in front of our co-workers and someone notices what is happening between the two of us?

And it will also be a very difficult relationship to carry on. With the other routes you at least have the peace of mind that you will be able to see your crush during work hours, and you will be able to tell others about your relationship without fear of being judged, except in the case of Devon, since he's your boss, and maybe Roy if Brune is still in love with him after their breakup or if you get in the middle of their relationship when they're still dating, but we still don't know what option of both will have with that omg, but still most routes you could have a normal relationship, however with Jason it will have to be a secret relationship for sure (as happened with Rayan Zaidi in UL), but how can you hide it? During how much time? And what will happen when our colleagues and our boss find out about everything? Will they be angry at you, thinking you're a traitor or will they think you're a victim blind of love that Jason is trying to manipulate? Will Devon, Roy or Elenda tell Sucrette some bitter hidden truth about Jason and will that maybe cause her and Jason to have a big confrontation? Could Sucrette perhaps leave or lose her job because of this or will she decide to stay in it despite everything and regain the trust of her colleagues again? And would Jason be able to somehow betray us in our relationship or manipulate us into doing something that harms Devenementiel or will he keep his feelings of rivalry/hate between companies separate from his feelings for our Sucrette? How will Jason and Sucrette be able to have a stable relationship and also continue to be rivals in their work without one thing influencing the other?

There are so many possibilities. Without a doubt, in his route the drama is served.

And oh boy, I'm here eating popcorn and so ready to enjoy watching the world burn.

something that i think gets overlooked about david is how he's just as full of impertinence as jack is -- even at the start of the movie. from the moment david meets jack, he questions and calls him out at every turn, despite there being a power imbalance between them, in which david is the lowly new kid, while jack is equipped with much more experience in selling papers and influence over the newsies. and jack likes this about him! he likes that david's got some bite to him!

but david's impertinence is tamped down by his pragmatism, which tells him that he has to think about his family, that there's no use being in struggle when it'll only invite punishment from the boss and the state, making it harder to survive -- it's what has him saying in hard promises that "yeah, [socialism] sounds good, but it doesn't put food on the table."

which is why jack is so good for david, i love them as a pair because they have such a good opposites attract, push-pull relationship that's grounded in their shared core values. in this case, they both have an anti-authoritarian streak to them, but jack is much more willing to take high risk actions, while david is low risk.

and i find that people are often low risk due to them not having experience, knowledge, and trust in other people, and as a result, they think every action that isn't state sanctioned will be crushed, dismissed for bad optics, etc. i see this in david, too, when he insists that in order to strike, they need to go through official channels to formally become a union, otherwise they're "just a bunch of angry kids with no money" -- to which i say, that's the beauty of the wildcat, you don't need permission! fuck liberal ideas of legitimacy! and all signs point to jack being of the same mindset ("even though we ain’t got hats or badges / we’re a union just by saying so").

this interaction is just so special to me -- the way that jack pokes at david's boundaries, trying to see if he's got guts or if he's going to chicken out. and david does him one better; he issues a challenge right back, gives him as good as he gets. sends HIM off to an unfamiliar place to meet a scary authority figure, too.

which, you know, i think is kinda funny, i really enjoy how neither of them are nice (even if they are ultimately kind), especially not to each other. but on a more serious note, this kind of egging each other on is sooo important for political agitation. thinking about all the communiques and conversations had about this topic, a huge contributor to why people are able to be brave on the streets is that the people next to them are brave. and this shared bravery/terror/excitement feed into each other until it becomes a powder keg of emotion and action, blowing a hole into so called "normal life" and opening up a time and space in which something, anything can happen -- there's a lot of hope in this, too.

this is really just a long winded way of saying that jack's wild ungovernability is the spark of the strike and david's first foray into political action. that jack possesses a kind of charisma and conviction that david lacks, while david brings a much needed level headedness and political knowledge/intuition to the table. and they both have moments in which they're doubtful of the strike's power and unable to commit, but the other always pulls them back into the fray. they make each other brave.

and all of this is inextricable from their romance. there's one other moment i want to point out, when david tells jack what to say during 'the world will know,' fanning the flames of the strike, even though a part of him remains unconvinced that they can actually pull off a strike. and he's completely out of sync from the others, not singing or dancing, just an observer -- that is, until jack grabs him by the shoulders, telling him, "pulitzer may crack the whip, but he won’t whip us." it's only after this that david's relationship with the strike is reconfigured, in that he finally joins the crowd and sings along, now fully committed.

this was david's quintessential oh moment. to me.

My WIPs

The Metahuman Initiative

An urban fantasy/science fiction series focused on people with superpowers, known as metahumans, within a massive, high-tech city specifically designed to study them.

Main characters are Nat Carter, Rini Callaghan, and Marlowe Hierro.

After being released from prison, six months after the murder of their family, Nat is given a new home in the Callaghan Institute, where they race aggressive and suspicious police officers to find the true killer of their family and get the closure they need, whatever it might be, before the cops decide Nat is their real target.

At the Institute, Rini, Professor Callaghan's adoptive daughter, takes poorly to Nat's arrival, and to try and alleviate the problem, the professor assigns Rini to find a mysterious and terrified metahuman that just arrived in the city - Marlowe, who currently has no idea who they are or what to do.

But Veda has a lot more going on than can be seen on the surface, and as the three of them delve deeper, the horrors and truth of Veda City, and how it connects to each of them, begin to show themselves.

Starkyda

A steampunk/science fantasy series focused on multiple groups of people vying for control of a floating island on the edge of the apocalypse. Some groups include dragon riders at a fascist military academy, criminals in the literal underbelly of the city, council members and politicians with their own agendas, and a farmer and midwife who just wants to go home.

Main characters are: many.

For three hundred years, the Blight has pushed out from the massive breach at the bottom of the ocean and infected not just the waters, but the entire world. Now, as the inhabited islands become the next target for the Blight to swallow up, a beacon of hope is appearing on the island closest to destruction: Tairkyda.

Saoirse Cuirc is thirteen years old when she declares to the statues of the gods that she is a girl, not the son so many believe, and becomes the first person in three hundred years to see the Goddess.

And the first person in history to be Chosen to wield the mortal portion of her power.

Now, six years later, at nineteen, Saoirse is entering Tairkyda's mandatory military academy alongside her best friend, Lucian, and their freshly hatched dragons. But Saoirse isn't the only outsider, this year, and it's clear that most of those in power don't want any of them here.

Jules, who found a dragon egg one morning while doing chores, is a midwife and a farmer who just wants to go home, but the rare power of their dragon, and the strength of their bond, means Jules isn't going anywhere. Not if they want to have somewhere to return to, at least.

And Wren Hashimoto, who has spent years fighting against the belief that they are weak and frail, and who takes the opportunity of a dragon and a chance to bear their teeth to show just how ferocious they can be, without help.

Beurkratti

A sprawling, epic fantasy with urban fantasy and science fantasy elements - a genre blend of a world inspired by the 80s - taking place in a world of many, fantastic creatures, oodles of queerness, and at least one apocalyptic level threat a month.

Following many characters, Beurkratti is a series about friendship and connection, about mystery and intrigue, and about how the search for information in the past can lead to great things in the future.

We drop into Beurkratti right as the apocalyptic level threats are starting to get worse than usual, and the Wardens, keepers of peace and safety around the world, start trying to bring things down to normal and see what changed.

From this, we follow dozens of characters across many different stories, including Katya, a half-orc Warden with chronic pain and a service shoulder dragon who travels Beurkratti looking for answers to the inevitable decay of the mind all Wardens suffer, as well as helping out wherever she can.

And if she comes across a brothel or two along the way - hey, bonus!

The Pacino Variant

Since I found out that JAW got inspiration from Al Pacino to play some of Carmy's layers I immediately started thinking about Frankie and Johnny's dynamic and how it was all so messy in their relationship before it got to the good part. Granted, JAW was not inspired by Johnny, but by a different role Al Pacino played, but still. It got me thinking about how this very Austenian love story, of course, very realistic and bittersweet had certain points in common with Sydarmy and once I started I just couldn't stop drawing parallels between the sydcarmy dynamic and the frankjohnny one because F&J was a very atypical comedy, just like The Bear and that's why many viewers now don't even understand how The Bear is a comedy, which it is, of course: A noir one. Back then, something similar kinda happened with Frankie & Johnny, it flopped as a rom-com but it became a cult movie and was critically acclaimed.

Context: they met while working together at a diner.

The main characters were described as: "lonely little people struggling to find love."

Rolling Stone's review back then read the following:

"Somehow Mr. Marshall, Mr. McNally, and their superb leading actors are able to retain the intimacy of their material. They also retain the story's fundamental wariness about romance, even when everything about Ms. Pfeiffer and Mr. Pacino has the audience wondering why they don't simply fall into each other's arms."

See? Sounds very Sydcarmy to me, building intimacy while NOT dating, Frankie (Michelle Pfeiffer) is all business-no love, a tough cookie, she's been burnt before so she doesn't let any new guy into her life

and Johnny has to do the hard work to convince her (which Carm is not doing bc he rather denies his own feelings and deflects onto Claire as both this amazing meta by @Chefkids and my own humble opinion point out). In Johnny's case, there's no Claire but there is a rather complicated past that also conditions his choices and Frankie doesn't make it any easier on him, etc.

So my point is that the whole Sydcarmy back and forth before it actually happens, which I already mentioned here I think is gonna be more of a cliffhanger kinda thing bc before we get to that part they need to be at each other's throats, Carmy's relationship with C has to crash and burn, The Bear needs to win a bunch of awards and hopefully get out of debt, which will be S3's main focus, along with Nat's baby that's gonna be a total game changer in terms of the Berzatto family's dynamic, etc... when all of those boxes are checked ✅✅✅ then we will venture into Sydcarmy territory on Storer's terms. And I can't help but wonder if that transition from friends to lovers is gonna be kinda like F&J's, I think it might, because it sounds Storer-friendly. I'm not talking about the endgame per se, just the transition.

i totally forgot about all the different ways ABC tinkered with all these classic fairytales to make the characters 10x more badass.

it's so funny to me that caleb and veth really did just trade off the job of intensely pining for the other at like the halfway point of the campaign. like, imo, nott in the early days did not behave in any real romantic or even romance-adjacent ways toward him--I imagine it would be very hard to even think in that way when you hate what you look like so much, have such low self-esteem, and are actively lying about your entire past, including a secret husband. caleb, on the other hand, is kind of diving directly back into the sort of relationship he had with astrid and eadwulf. very close, very intimate, we-huddled-for-warmth-together-and-oops-it-led-to-something-else sort of thing. he is the one who expresses that he's fine with it if people think he and nott are romantically together when they're talking to keg. nott is the one who pushes back on that. he calls her his life partner. unknowingly, he compares his feelings for nott to nott's feelings for yeza. his behavior only really starts to change after he finds out about veth's husband because suddenly all of that other stuff is rendered inappropriate in retrospect. but even then he compliments her to yeza over dinner in the most awkward of ways, he admits to being jealous, he calls yeza "a lucky man" to have her, he stares at veth and yeza closed bedroom door for far too long, he creates an entire arcane tower with room for her family just so she'll stay with him. in general, his behavior is not, um, totally and completely platonic about it, you know?

like, veth's feelings for caleb are canonical and therefore indisputable in their existence, but caleb in the early days was not that dissimilar to how veth was acting near the end of the campaign. it really paints a picture of "right person, wrong time" in the way things just didn't line up for them. or, as veth would say: "in another world, maybe"

#i am actually thinking about this because my widobrave 2 poll had so many moments on it that caleb initiated #and i often see it remarked that people think widobrave is entirely one-sided and caleb only treats her as platonic or familial #which. my real answer is that it's just complicated and i don't think he'd ever admit to any romantic feelings being there #but i also. uh. i wouldn't call it platonic or familial. there is some holy fourth dimension that this relationship exists in istg #impossible to explain but it is NOT entirely platonic nor all that familial imo as it stands in canon #this is like. ONE piece of the meta I was trying to figure out how to phrase earlier today. bottom line of it was:#I don't think the caleb/veth romance is entirely one-sided but also it is so so complicated #their relationship changes SO many times. SO much. that's why it's so frustrating that fandom is stuck in episode 13 re: their dynamic #SO MUCH ABOUT THE DYNAMIC CHANGES AFTER EPISODE 13 #even sam reigel himself on talks said there was no reason their relationship wouldn't change/evolve after that #and it did change! it really really did!#widobrave #the mighty nein #caleb widogast #veth brenatto #critical role #inaugurating the new url with a widobrave post. as it should be
