BUDGETING

dont know if everyone will still want to know on budgeting lol

I don't want to sound like a bitch yk

BUT

I think the most important thing for me was learning to give yourself the freedom to enjoy things like little by little

I used to do this thing where I was uptight for a super long time and then I wpukd splurge huge amounts and for nothing.

I'm not religious either but I truly believe that setting out a little each month/week for charity is great bc it's always comes back in a form that's greater you know.

Pay rise, new job opportunities, idk good things.

Ik it sounds cringe and gross but I think it's worth it !

THE STEPS LMAO

Okay so I always but in 40%-45% like in the bag already savings I mean (this can obvs be adjusted to fit your own needs but if say keeping over 30% is key!)

And work around everything else in the steps below !!!

If I was brave enough I would send pictures of my last year budgeting plan and how I managed to save !! But I'm not 😭😭😭

the first step for me would be to list your monthly income !

Monthly is way easier to work with and easier to adjust in the long run !

Second would be list out things that have to be paid always. So fixed expenses.

I.e rent, MOT, bills, food ( for this I would highly recommend just having a monthly shopping of like say £20-25 - seems un do able but isnt !!! Frozen veggies are your best friend:)) gym membership, spotify, prime all of that.

Third which is super important for me at least would be to set out a like reward bonus for yourself.

( in cash preferably- like so once it's gone it's gone you know- like monthly rewards for yourself - sometimes you use it and sometimes you dont!! )

Fourth - ALWAYS SET AN EXTRA LIL FUND FOR THE UNEXPECTED THINGS!!! ( car crashes, dentist, medicine if your toaster breaks if your fridge breaks !! all of that lovely stuffs 😃)

So when you look at all that infront you- really just scrutinise it.

Like -

How much of that do you really need to spend?

Is there anything you can cut out on ?

This is super important at least to me bc then I see that yh shit - that is crazy I'm spending useless money )

I think that also keeping student loans separate is SUUUUPER SUUUUPER bc it just. Idk if anyone else is like this but seeing how much they expected from me to be able to learn always depressed me so I made a separate folder for that- made it pretty so it didnt look sooo bad lmao ) but I think the biggest part was getting to grips that I had all that to pay back!!!

Then like random things :

Concerts, events, holidays.

Like make sure you have them planned in advance and make separate funds for all of them.

To cater to what they need! Like for a concert- hotel and food money and merch buying and army bomb and a NEW OUTFITTTT lmao)

And yh - I think setting up a teeny amount for charity or to help ppl is always great aswell bc well idk you feel good and it does always come to find you- doesnt have to be a large amount. Maybe even a food box every month or smn cute and sweet like that !!

This is how I did it : ( kind of irrelevant and just abt silly me lmao but maybe itll help(?))

So i used to work night shifts at this horrible packing place ( it was freezing too but the pay was so good! It was £15-18 an hr ( sometimes even more )and I used to work from 11pm-4am 7 days a week like I didnt take a day off until I quit and i did it for 2 years ! That was like 50k but I had a lot of things to pay off and my parents wanted nearly all of it back off of me 😃)

This is also the NOT the job I wanted yk? Like I used to work with a bunch of stinky ass men and it sucked but I had to do it bc well my parents kicked me out bc I was non religious looool.

I was never enough and I just got kicked out yk? ( oh no not my sob story but just to put it into perspective sort of like I was fucking depressed my money was going like wildfire )

So I had to kind of take everything/every opportunity. They expected a lot back from me too in that way like alot of my learning was going to them :/)

From 5-7

I worked at a bakery ! Cooking and baking and having fun! That was the best job I had the pay wasnt all that but it was something and I needed everything I could get ! It wasnt everyday either but so and so.

I also am bilingual so that way I was able to get a job as a teacher in a daytime school teaching which I did voluntarily! For the first year !

( I had this routine for 2 years!!)

So like I was getting an okay amount from these jobs but god heavens I was spending so unnecessary.

Like a high price for a shit apartment where I would have to pay for things to get fixed to and that was really expensive.

My parents also took alot first year earnings and that's when I was like well shit I have nothing I really need to like get my shit together yk?

There was student loan (- I dont want to like envoke sympathy bc of all this I just wanna like say that my money was kind of slipping away yk I feel like I'm being annoying 😭😭😭 ) - and just a whole lot of wasting on food ( my biggest expenditure- at the time I was struggling with binge eating and bulimia so 🙃🙃 yh )

Dumb shit off amazon, and like just crap you know

Also car petrol and mot and car stuff. and bus and train fares just money can go so easily.

It was just super super tiring to have juggle all these balls at once but when I got the hang of it like doing all those steps I felt more free and more aware of myself and I was able to enjoy while still getting yk the most out of what I do.

I work as a translater/teacher now so the pay is good and like using these steps is how I got the most out of myself

Uh idk If this even makes sense anymore and I'm sorry if come off as bitch too

I don't mean to or come with a sob story

I just think its important to like realise that no matter what and who in your life demands things from you - you always have to choose to look after yourself first- how you choose too look after yourself is ultimately how you choose to look after others too ! Take good care of yourself - give yourself a clearer mind and you'll be able to see a bigger picture- outside of the one built for you !!

If your struggling with other issues - mental health too it can help bring clarity to that too ! Bc it's some sort of semblance.

Quarantine things (ft. Yamaguchi Tadashi, Tsukishima Kei, Ushijima Wakatoshi & Kita Shinsuke) | headcanon

Quarantine has been forcing me to be productive with school but I’ve been having all these spurs of ideas in my head. So I wanted to write this before I forget it, and so I can feel like I did something today before I work on more essays and hw. :) 

Also, side note I’ve been doing Yoga with Adriene to help with my chronic back pain. PEOPLE! If you want start yoga during quarantine I 11/10 recommend her channel on YouTube. Stay healthy and stay safe <3 

Yamaguchi Tadashi

You notice how much he’s willing to try new things, now that time has freed up.

Baking croissants, juicing veggies and fruits, rummaging through the pantry to make dinner with boxed food (because he wants to make sure you both only go grocery shopping when you absolutely have to). 

When it is time to go out to the public, he makes sure you both glove up, sanitize, and wear bandanas with sunglasses (at the market). 

You know those Korean grandmas that wear those sleeves and visors?

Yep. You two are that couple.

He’s paranoid, but he still wants to make sure you both use this time to spend quality moments together ...because he knows you’re not able to visit a lot of friends and family right now :(( 

Walks at the park during the most unexpected times throughout the day

You both have a dog, his name is YamYam 

Tadashi uses this time to really upgrade the dog’s instagram and make him go dogstagram viral I dont know why I’m so obsessed with making Tadashi internet famous ok :( 

Sleeping in all the time (morning cuddles are a must) 

Don’t you think that I would forget about his terrarium. He still worships that buddy everyday! By now your days with Tadashi are filled with dog walks, healthy receipes, plants, and daylight cuddles. 

Tsukishima Kei 

Dalonga coffee, dalonga matcha, dalonga everything with our boy Tsukishima. 

Ever tried egg coffee? You protested against it at first but Tsukishima kept teasing you how great it was until you finally caved in and tried it. 

It’s. The. Shit. (However you want it interpret that) 

Every morning, without fail, you both sit over at the kitchen island and sip on coffee or tea. Bedhead, pjs and everything. You don’t say much, but its the quiet and peace that rises in the morning that makes you appreciate these moments with him. 

Contrary to popular belief, Tsukishima is actually a hopeless romantic. So you’ll have these evenings where he makes a new playlist from Spotify and just starts grooving to the beat with you. (This is shared between you and Tsuki ONLY). Copyrights on Tsuki’s jazzy hands. 

He loves seeing you move on your own and as some may think its him dreading it, he LOVES it when you drag him into dancing too. 

When you watch TV show together at night, he likes to psychoanalyze the characters with you

“But what do you think of this. He’s turned into a cereal killer because of childhood trauma from his aunt feeding him much coco puffs.”

“The hell Y/N?? that doesn’t even make any sense! It’s bc he worked at the grocery store and the manager always assigned him to restock the dry cereal and oatmeal aisle.”

You read in bed separately together, but you’ll lean on each other for back support. 

Stillness with Tsuki is all he’s ever asked for, all he’s ever wanted with you. 

Ushijima Wakatoshi 

Sure, most of the time his mind is on volleyball. But when it comes down to it, the person he spends most of the time thinking about is actually you. 

He’s estatic to spend time with you in quarantine! He makes sure to not break his routines though, so he’s always encouraging you to work out with him in the morning. Whether or not you’re a morning person, you also try to push yourself to exercise! So Toshi doesn’t have to run by himself, plus you’ll get fit too! 

But there was this one thing Toshi never really got into, but by being with you more, he’s finally come around to it. 

It’s Yoga baby. 

Volleyball is an intense sport. So with all that practice and endless hours he’s dedicated, Toshi usually goes to physical therapy to work on his muscles. Since everything is closed, he started doing yoga with you to relieve some back pain :’( 

He can’t thank you enough, because his posture is straighter and he doesn’t toss and turn in his sleep like he did before

Y’all I hate to break it to you but... Tendou finally got him. After all those ads on the Weekly Shonen Jump, he’s discovered Amazon Prime. 

He’s looking at things on amazon and adding it to his cart!!! He never buys it though 

“ Y/N, I think an air fryer is a good idea”

“What? No we have a toaster oven”

The air fryer was indeed the best thing that’s ever updated in your household. 

He laughs more, he smiles more, he’s just really happy to be domestic with you. Home with you is like his safe space. Because he can let his guard down and lean on you for emotional and mental support. 

Kita Shinsuke 

This quarantine really concerns him. Not because he’s neccesarily afraid of contracting the virus, but worries about his grandma potentially getting it :(

So you both make a very, very tough decision and figured it was best that he spent his time with his grandma to nurse and take care of her until the shelter in place is lifted. 

But the week before he leaves, you and Kita spent an entire two days sewing face masks and care packages for his neighbors. 

He makes sure to meal prep for you some food throughout the week and even teaches you some basic recipes to get you through the month. 

You and Kita both go on this massive cleaning spree where you bleach and tidy up everything. 

By the end of it, there was more than enough bags of clothes to give away to a donation shop near by. 

On his last days with you, he spends as much time with you doing things unrelated to the pandemic! Like DIY face masks and cutting up fruit as you both play Bananagrams together. 

When he’s off to his grandma’s he makes sure to religiously facetime you before bed! 

You teach his grandma how to use dog filters over the phone and sometimes you forget he meant to call to talk to you. 

You somehow ended up talking to his grandma for half an hour, listening to her talk about baby Shinsuke childhood stories. 

I dont know, you miss him so much. He misses you more. But you both are so understanding and supportive of each other that counting off the days doesn’t even exist anymore. You just find new things to share and talk about over the phone everyday.

If you visit Amazon's Prime Video homepage, you'll see that the title of that page is "Rent or Buy: Prime Video." There's a plain-language meaning of "buy" that most of us understand, but Amazon says we're wrong.

julie and the phantoms (netflix remake): musical show abt a teen girl rediscovering music after her mothers death w the help of three ghosts who were in a 90s band. canon gay character w a slow burn romance (not yet canon bfs but s2 lets go) - its very cheesy and the musical segments can drag on a bit but its p good overall

lucifer: detective show abt lucifer abandoning his rule of hell to buy a nightclub and beginning to solve murders w the lapd. lucifer is canonically bi/pan, as is his demon pal mazikeen, but queerness rly isnt a focus of the show its more casual rep - that being said its a good show overall, if a little predictable now n then (s1-3 on amazon prime, 4+5 on netflix)

kipo and the age of wonderbeasts: fantasy cartoon set in a future filled w mutant intelligent animals, kipo finds herself lost and has to get home w the help of her friends. canon gay character as one of the mains, canon nb side character - its a rly good cartoon! lots of fun, excellent soundtrack, and the main characters are all poc which is rly nice to see

the dragon prince: cartoon abt two princes and an elf assassin returning a dragon egg to its mother. canon mlm couple, several canon wlw characters, canon nb character - i havent seen the show myself but ive heard very good things abt it!

i am not okay with this: netflix show abt a teen girl discovering she has superpowers and hating it. protag is canon wlw (i THINK shes a lesbian but i havent watched it in a hot sec), developing wlw relationship - ianowt slaps! sad that s2 got cancelled but s1 is real good its a touch spooky and theres a bit of gore/blood so watch out lol

schitt's creek: sitcom abt a rich family who lose all their money and have to move into the motel of a town they bought as a joke. canon pansexual character and canon gay character w one of the sweetest mlm relationships - a rly good witty show w excellent character development for every character!

good omens: show abt a demon and an angel trying to stop the end of the world. every celestial character in it is nonbinary, + crowley and aziraphale have a nonexplicit (ie no on screen pda lol) romance - good omens is such a good queer show none of the characters care abt gender in the slightest lmao, plus the show in general is fantastic (the book is also very good)

movies!

the old guard: a group of immortals fight an organisation that wants to capitalise off their immortality. canon mlm couple - another one i havent seen yet (i will!) but apparently very good

it chapter 2: horror sequel to It, w the main characters returning to derry to defeat pennywise for good. canon gay character in unrequited love - i only say chapter 2 because his queerness isnt referenced at all in the first film, again its big horror and theres no gay romance just gay tragedy but its a good film

love, simon: romcom about a closeted gay teen falling in love w someone over emails. do i even need to state the rep? - honestly if u haven't seen love simon yet what are you even DOING its so good proper fluffy queer romcom, the book (simon vs the homosapiens agenda) is also really good!! so is the sequel (leah on the offbeat) where the protag is a bi girl + it focuses on a wlw romance

the way he looks: brazilian coming of age film abt a blind teen boy falling for the new kid at his school. canon mlm relationship - this doesnt seem to be on (british) netflix anymore so idk where youd find it with subtitles but i rmr liking it a lot!

games!

night in the woods: 2d platformer abt a young woman (well. cat) dropping out of college and coming home to live w her parents + discovering spooky happenings in her hometown. canon mlm couple and i believe the protag is canonically bi? - i will recommend nitw to literally anyone who will listen its one of my all time favourite games, deals w a lot of mental health issues and its absolutely gorgeous w a brilliant soundtrack and rly good dialogue thats witty and serious and realistic (its on steam + switch for sure dk abt other platforms, abt 15 quid i think?)

tell me why: adventure game abt twins returning to their childhood home + findin Secrets. canon trans male character - i havent got around to buying + playing this yet but it looks really good! (its in three chapters + on steam, not sure on price)

the art of being normal: slice of life novel abt a young trans girl discovering herself. main characters are a trans man and a trans woman. - a good novel! trigger warning for transphobic actions including descriptions of a transphobic attack on the guy, and its certainly not without its faults otherwise, but i thought it was pretty good

the adventure zone: dungeons and dragons podcast by the mcelroy brothers. idk specifics but theres a lot of canon queer characters in it! - i havent listened to taz yet but i know a lot abt it, inc that its good and funny and has plenty of queer rep

So like... Since when does calling someone a girlboss go from it being a random fictional female character minding her own business to an irl female serial killer and still be used in the same way............................................. Like.... I didnt really like the Amazon prime Cinderella movie but she really was minding her own business and yeah they were going for a female empowerment thing but why did movie commentators I watch keep calling it a girlboss movie. Sometimes woman are just like that. Sometimes woman are just horrendously cringey. Why are female characters who are assholes called girlbosses as well when they refuse to be "nice" but still called that in a mocking way :/ why are fucked up irl woman called that as well. Idk it just all feels weird to me. I really don't like it.

It also gets jumbled up with the gaslight gatekeep girlboss meme (I also dont like it) and then everyone's calling any female character that does something for herself a "girlboss". And if she lied to someone its gaslighting now and if she's mean shes gatekeeping. Like.. The dilution of gaslighting is a whole thing as well. It just all feels like ppl are trying to create terms for ppl and its something ive seen happen So much recently .like the "pick me girl" thing.

It just essentially means a "not like other girls" but shorter and acting like its not literally just the same thing. This one hits me a little bc I know I've been one of the "im not like other girls" girl before when I was in middle school. I thought I was different and later on I realized that every girl is also different and I just wanted to be cool and it happens to so many girls as well and maybe I have a soft spot for girls that feel that way but "pick me" feels like a reinvention of that to make fun of girls who are like that that do grow out of it but its harsher bc its ppl making fun of them for wanting to be cool like. Who cares >:( as if they're also not being fed the idea that being like other girls is bad now being unlike them is bad too. Dont ppl have better things to do than making fun of girls figuring out what the hell is going on.

Girlboss Pick Me That Girl its all just annoying terms meant for mocking woman all over again. And female characters I like are getting their tags CLOGGED with stupid and annoying memes that only say the same unoriginal stupid shit over and over and over again.

I dont watch consistently but I do watch some series. Im not following a ton though. I loved The Dragon Prince. I haven't watched S6 of Lucifer yet but I need to. The Last Kingdom is also A+. (This whole list is on Netflix, USA side at least, so far.) Uh...I'm also behind on The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Shows like Green Arrow and The Flash arent usually my thing. Ive watched some of both. Enjoyed some of both. But those long running super hero story lines are so...predictable and cliche to me? My ex was rewatching Flash (the mf RUINED my netflix algorithm lemme tell ya) and idk how many times I pointed out how inconsistently powerful flash and his team were against foes only to be told to "stop being a writer about it and just watch the show". ...like. they'd ex-machina into winning every major conflict. I can't do it. If someone is gonna be in the eprfect place at the perfect time, the reasoning has to be believable. If i can te the writers just said "AND ITLL BE SO COOL WHEN XYZ SHOWS UP LIKE POW!" I can't do it. Anyone who enjoys that kinda stuff, I'm so so happy for you. I cannot. Its cringe to me. That kinda stuff is why I'm neurotic about writing my own shit. In this house our plot and characters have FOUNDATIONS, damnit.

I love love love modern reworks of existing media though? So even though the writing has issues, Sabrina being so different from the original show was exciting to me. Same with Lucifer, I fucking adore playing with religious mythology in entertainment media and I hard stan bi/pan Lucifer. Hard stan sexual fluidity in a multi-millenia old being. Yes.

And I was binging The Great British Bake Off for a time on Netflix but I eventually ran out of focus and giveadamn when they changed out hosts and such. That always breaks my connection to those kinda shows.

I also love the classic pride and prejudice adaptions like the 1995 BBC mini series (it used to be on amazon prime and an included thing but i had to buy it after a while. May still be free on other servers.)

Uh...I'm behind on marvel movies sadly. Im just bad at committing to the time it takes to watch a full movie anymore idk. Even if i wamna see it I'm always like "two hours??? Two whole hours???"

okay i just finished season 3.

i would say it was a good season, almost really good. probably feel the same with all the netflix/amazon prime shows because the entire season comes out at once and you watch the whole thing so it feels like it passes too quickly and there is no time to process after every episode and its true.

okay so the entire helen and john storyline this season i loved. i can understand why she ran at the end because as long as he is in that position they are gonna have to be stepping on eggshells all the time and killing to protect their girls. however i hate that she left john alone. he is going through a ton of shit right now and he needs her.

himmler being shot at the end was such a surprise i was not expecting that i loved it i hope he dies from it but i have a feeling that he’s gonna survive and just be even more vengeful and want to get rid of any american history. also what a great distraction from asking john to keep his family in line since now im sure he has bigger things to worry about.

rip frank. tbh i was half surprised that he survived the explosion in the first place and his story was sweet all about redemption for what he did and i’d like to think he found peace in the end. kido as well.

tagomi needs to live. im sick of people trying to kill him. he is so vital to everything regarding travelers he has all the knowledge i was sad that his and john’s conversation ended so quickly i was hoping they would dive deeper into parallel worlds but no chance.

ed and jack. my babies. both of them need to live they need to carry on franks message. robert, sigh. im so 50/50 with him because its partly his fault that frank is dead but also he stepped up in the end so thats good.

i dont want to drone on i may even make a seperate post about the many reasons why i hated joe’s death besides you know, loving his character.

but long story short, he didn’t need to die. i accept it however because it follows to the exact measurement of how his death happens in the book, fine. but his death was truly a waste of a character who had so much potential and it has left a gap that will be hard almost impossible to fill. ps, thanks Luke for everything.

on juliana, she did everything she wanted to this season. well almost. after joe, i don’t know how to feel about her character anymore, i suppose she just wants to bring down the nazis, fuck anything else. however im still so curious about what world she travelled to at the end, and how her getting shot will impact it.

“If Then” by Jill Lepore

The phenomenal Jill Lepore, prolific contributor to The New Yorker, chronicles the little-known history of Simulmatics, what will inevitably be the original catalyst for mankind’s eternal misery (sorry, no nuclear reptilian avatar of Gaia will emerge from the sea to wipe humanity from the face of the Earth, though I wish that would be true—that or an titanic asteroid strike). No, it is pocket computers, biometric and behavioral data, and the unregulated internet that is the omnipresent threat.  

“The Simulmatics Corporation, Cold War America’s Cambridge Analytica, claimed credit for having gotten John F. Kennedy elected president of the United States in November 1960. Months later, its scientists spend a summer at the beach planning new projects for their invention: a computer program designed to predict and manipulate human behavior, all sorts of human behavior, from buying a dishwasher to countering an insurgency to casting a vote. They called it the People Machine.

Hardly anyone, almost no one, remembers Simulmatics anymore. But beneath that honeycombed dome, the scientists of this long-vanished American corporation helped build the machine in which humanity would, by the twenty-first century, find itself trapped and tormented: stripped bare, driven to distraction, deprived of its senses, interrupted, exploited, directed, connected and disconnected, bought and sold, alienated and coerced, confused, misinformed, and even governed. They never meant to hurt anyone” (p. 10).

The consumer has become the prime commodity in the age of surveillance capitalism fueled by behavioral psychology, a commodity expected to earn some $12.4 billion by 2022 (p. 354), never mind social engineering on societal levels such as China’s “social credit” machination, and the puppeteering of authoritarian despots around the globe. Yet the sheep are willing participants in their own commodification, eating grass while being fleeced.

Lepore is a gifted writer with a flowing narrative style that brings much more into the overarching theme. Read her recent book review of Linda Colley’s The Gun, The Ship, and the Pen: Warfare, Constitutions, and Making of the Modern World, highlighting the Achilles heel of our own constitution (https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2021/03/29/when-constitutions-took-over-the-world), and see for yourself. The brink is never far beyond our feet.

The 1960s and early ‘70s truly were a fascinating period of time, one in which so much could have been accomplished for the greater good, and sadly one we seem destined to be mired within its painful reverberations with engrained racism, historic classism, insatiable warmongering, vampiric capitalism, and rabid political tribalism. This book uncovers another dimension of this time period, with the evolution of computers and their fledgling use in analyzing and manipulating human beings. Lepore did an interview with <i>The New Yorker</i> (https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2020/08/03/how-the-simulmatics-corporation-invented-the-future), as well as NPR (https://www.npr.org/2020/09/15/913039402/collect-data-influence-votes-if-then-traces-the-genesis-of-data-driven-politics), for some additional insight.

“Human nature does not follow laws like the law of gravity, and to believe that it does is to take an oath to a new religion. Predestination can be dangerous. The profit-motivated collection and use of data about human behavior, unregulated by any governmental body, has wreaked havoc on human societies, especially on the spheres in which Simulmatics engaged: politics, advertising, journalism, counterinsurgency, and race relations. Its rise also marked the near abandonment of humanistic knowledge” (p. 351).

The wanton greed and reckless wielding of such power by the Goliaths of Amazon, Facebook, Google, many governments, police departments, Big Ag, Big Pharma, Big Oil, and, well, just about everyone else began with a fascinatingly dysfunctional company called Simulmatics in 1959. This is that story, but the saga is ongoing and the GOP seeks to control that power, as Adam Serwer summarizes (https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2021/04/dont-buy-conservative-rebellion-against-corporations/618519/):

“Like the Republican turn against democracy, the newfound opposition to the market fundamentalism that conservatives once espoused and the free-speech principles they pretended to revere is superficial and contingent. Free speech, democracy, and free-market capitalism were fine as long as Republicans could expect victory in these arenas. But with public opinion shifting against them on key priorities, their focus has now turned to rigging the rules of the game to their advantage rather than winning over a larger share of the public. They do not seek to achieve a more equitable distribution of either money or power, but to ensure that the present inequities work to their political advantage.

An irony is that the era with which the right is enraptured was in part a product of a set of mid-century economic arrangements—higher taxes on the wealthy, greater union density, stronger regulations—that the left is attempting to restore, in some form, while including a novel commitment to racial and gender equality. Republicans have no interest in curtailing corporate power in this fashion—not when they believe that power could be used to reimpose a diminished cultural hegemony. These so-called populist Republicans do not wish to throw the one ring into Mount Doom; they simply want to wield it on their own behalf” (the emphasis is mine).
