♡ bakugou headcanons that feel like a warm hug ♡

♡ always makes little adjustments to the environment for you. he’s observant to a fault so if there’s something even a little off and it happens to bother you, he’s trying to work around it.

♡ good at playing guitar but not good at reading music. he can throw something together if you give him a chance but he’s not good at trying to recreate someone elses memory. he’s not like.. musically gifted either but he likes how guitar sounds

♡ thinks about getting a lot of piercings in his ear because he thinks they’d look cool but is kind of too nervous? the idea of a needle going through his skin is a ick. when you start dating, he drags you to his appointments lol - won’t admit it but he thinks he looks so hot when he gets them. takes a bunch of selfies <3

♡ needs to be moving constantly. can’t sit completely still to save his life. when he listens to music, he moves his head. sometimes he just runs his thumb over his fingers.

♡ really, really bad at talking. not in the sense he can’t communicate (that too) but he just likes listening in conversation. rarely adds his own thing. but when he does - always accidentally says something super meaningful

♡ enjoys subtle physical touch because it is literally intimate he melts inside. a hand on his forearm or shoulder. your legs over his lap. small things that show how comfortable you are.

♡ likes being held cause he’s a big ass baby lmfao

♡ wont admit it but enjoy when you choose pretty or colorful bandages for his cuts he won’t himself but it’s like keeping you in his pocket wherever he goes.

♡ really needs you to find him attractive dslksjk it’s not that he ever thinks he’s particularly ugly. but he didn’t really assign importance to his appearance at any point in his life, yet now he puts in a scary amount of effort. readjusts his hair so much more, makes sure his clothes fit good. fixes his fuckin’ face lol

♡ likes chewing gum a lot and always has a pack on him. really proud of how big he can blow bubbles and will be a little sad if you’re unimpressed.

♡ is overly sentimental about things you’ve made him - especially if it’s something super dumb. you drew him a silly little sketch of him in a frog hat? it’s in his wallet behind his id. freaks out when he thinks he’s lost his wallet

♡ LOVES phone calls. yes he still hates talking. but the way his face looks when he listens to your voice. eyes half-lidded, shamelessly smiling - it’s so tender and so lovesick.

♡ terrible first grader hand-writing. he tries to write them for you in the beginning of your relationship (to be romantic or some shit) but they’re so incomprehensible pls. if he focuses on it - it can be legible but most of the time ... yea no.

♡ doesn’t favor tea or coffee but prefers tea if he has to drink one.

♡ crazy good at eyeballing measurement. even in baking. once made a perfectly good bread without weighing anything and doesn’t get why that’s so wild.

♡ has the phone on his text set to be bigger even though his eyes are fine.

♡ lets you do the layout thing on his iphone and decorate as you please. says he doesn’t care but when he sees you made it hero themed/fit with his aesthetic - he got so red it was so cute.

♡ hates shopping in store. will still always go with you because the one time you went alone a store clerk hit on you.

♡ so practical. he started couponing when he was in his early twenties like an old man. checks the news and weather the night before, every night. never misses doctors appointments.

♡ shit at any form of visual art. drawing, painting etc - cannot do it to save his life. but he tries. his hands shake when he tries to draw hearts for you

♡ blows the eyelashes off your cheek super gently whenever he notices. he’ll like.. take your face in his hands and blow so softly like he’s gonna hurt you.

♡ used to agree to make pinky promises with you as a joke. now though? automatically holds his pink out for you to take it. straight up pouts if you don’t.

♡ you two have a song and when it comes on, he’ll sing it back to you. any other time? any other song? he wont. but he always sings your song even without realizing, just mouths it.

♡ enjoys when you put your hands under his shirt and just leave them there and hug him like that. skin to skin contact is elite but only from you.

♡ hamsters adore this man. they just do.

♡ draws frowny faces on your eggs with hot-sauce

♡ soul leaves his body when you play with his hair and scratch his scalp. the tension in his neck literally disappears and he just sighs that shit relaxes him like crazy

♡ the first time he says i love you, you’re tying his tie for his first hero event. you’re telling him to that the color looks good on him and you’re smiling. it honestly it just slips. he went on to win an award that night.

♡ his favorite memory of the two of you was when you were trying to leave the grocery store one afternoon. it was raining heavy as shit. you pulled him in under your clear umbrella and just stood there. he doesn’t know why but that means a lot to him.

♡ cares a lot about his dads approval on his work specifically. him and his dad have a really specifc bond and he actually admires him quite a bit.

♡ nothing makes him cry like “im proud of you”. especially when it’s for something small. it’s just something he didn’t hear enough in a sincere way.

♡ likes fruit flavored sweets over chocolate (generally needs something to do w his mouth cause it helps him think. bad oral fixation) so he keeps little candies on him

♡ shit at video games. terrible at them with the exception of mario kart? for some reason.

♡ always loses his keys

♡ stutters every!single!time! he tries to compliment you. it’s been YEARS.

♡ takes a melatonin gummy before bed and always drinks a glass of water

♡ buys you flowers and keeps them too. like does the upkeep on it and replaces them if the wilt. suggests pressing them to keep them for longer.

♡ lowkey cries really easily. he just gets overwhelmed w his feelings some times and it makes him cry even if he doesn’t want too. you and the bakusquad are sworn to secrecy over it though

♡ wears his ring around his neck on a chain bc it’s easier to show off.

♡ naturally good at doing hair!

♡ likes sneakers but wears dr. scholl's because he walks a lot and is on his feet for most of the day w his job. just being careful.

Synopsis: In the attempt to cheer Y/n up Fred plays a joke on Professor Snape, ultimately landing her and Fred in detention.

The day had already been incredibly draining for Y/n, nothing had been working in her favor. Seamus had set her transfiguration book on fire and Draco had kneaded chewing gum into her hair during charms. Needless to say, she wanted the day to be done and over with, but she still had Potions with Snape to get through. It couldn’t be that bad right? He doesn’t hate me as much as the other students. She thought as she slipped into her third-row seat.

As the minutes passed by, she watched as her classmates filed into the classroom. All except for one. Fred Weasley, the prankster Quidditch player. Normally, she wouldn’t have put much thought into it but, his usual seat had now been occupied by some Hufflepuff. That had meant that the seat which had been empty beside her would soon have the redhead sprawled out into it. Y/n had quite a few times been blessed with the boy’s obnoxious wand twirling (often ended in him dropping it) and his ridiculous little jokes. But the bright side was, there had never been a dull moment with him present.

Snape had been rambling on about the draught piece they were going to be recreating in class when Fred had barged in. His hair was slightly disheveled, and he still has his Quidditch jumper on.

“Mr. Weasley, maybe next time I shall have you teach the class, though I’m sure you would be late to that as well.” Snape sighed.

“As I was saying before I was rudely interrupted, these plants are most efficacious in the inflaming of the brain and are therefore used in confusing and befuddlement Draughts, where the wizard is delirious of producing hot-headedness and recklessness…. This potion has quite a bit in common with a certain Weasley I have the pleasure of attempting to teach.” He mocked, turning his head slowly his eyes met the ginger who now sat next to her. Looking back at Fred, he had a large grin plastered across his face. It brought him the utmost joy seeing Snape angered.

The last person Y/n expected to be paired with was Fred, she should have known. He must be in a really bad mood. Standing over the cauldron, book in hand, she began reading out the ingredients they would be needing.

“Scurvy grass, lovage, and sneezewort.” y/n recited, looking up she saw Fred who hadn’t moved from his spot next to her, staring at her.

“Are you alright?” she whispered.

“Yes, I’m fine. Are you alright? Got some gum in your hair. ” his hand reached for her Y/l/h, y/h/c locks. Sighing, Y/n nodded.

Leaning in, Fred whispered to her “Do you want to talk about it?” No, she hadn’t wanted to talk about it, but it didn’t stop her from telling him about the events from earlier, because she knew he was just trying to be nice. He seemed to understand her frustrations. Surprisingly he didn’t want to add to it all, he wanted to take it all away. Fred wasn’t as close as he would have liked to be with Y/n but he couldn’t help it. Anytime it came to her he would clam up and just make a fool out of himself. The same thing went for her, she did adore the boy, even if he did constantly cause mischief. They both fancied each other and were too blind to see it. They had for a long time now.

Halfway through the class, they were almost done with the draught. Y/n read through the last few directions for the piece.

"What hair color do you think would look good on old snape?" Fred chimed in. Looking at the boy she thought It was the cutest thing, his hands rested on his chin. He looked like a little kid ready to get into some mischief.

"Well since you're asking,” Y/n began. Leaning in closer she whispered to him.

“I think the greasy old git would look spectacular with a bubblegum pink shade.” Fred let out a throaty laugh, catching the attention of the professor in question. Without another thought, Snape turned back to his work.

“You are brilliant.” pulling out his wand he takes a glance around. The only one watching was Y/n, who had a quite bewildered look on her face.

“Watch this” he pointed to Snape. “Colovaria,” he said, flicking his wand.

“Merlin” he heard Y/n gasp. There Snape stood, his once black hair was now indeed a bubblegum pink, and it stood out like a sore thumb. “What did you do?” she said again. Fred, who was fully expecting anger, looked at her again. She was laughing harder than he had ever seen her laugh before.

“What could be so funny miss Y/l/n?” Snape shouted. Attempting to stifle a laugh, y/n pointed to her hair. “Professor, your hair.” now everyone looked at him, but no one dared laugh.

“Detention, both of you!”

Now the two of them faced Dumbledore, Snape still had a tight grasp on their robes.

“You can let them go now, Severus.”

“These two- Weasley has tainted Miss Y/l/n!” they had seen a fit of new anger arise in him. His hair was still that pink shade, and his face had also turned a light pink as well.

“Please, Severus” Dumbledore Repeated, his tone hardening. With that Snape released the two from his grip. "I'm going to go… figure this out." Snape grumbled, as he left, he brought his cloak over his head, ashamed of what masterpiece had been underneath.

“He could use a sense of humor.” Fred sighed, crossing his arms over his chest.

“Agreed” y/n chimed in. Dumbledore hadn’t stayed serious for long.

“Yes it was quite brilliant, who chose the color?” he asked, looking over the brim of his glasses.

“That was all Y/n professor,”

“Mm I do love that shade” he smiled. Standing up, Dumbledore came to their sides. Placing a gentle hand on each of their shoulders. "I hope you understand there is only so much I can do."

Sadly they were still stuck in detention, thankfully after a talk with Snape, Dumbledore was able to shorten their sentence to a week in detention instead of a whole month. That night Fred and Y/n sat cleaning cauldrons. “I’m sorry I got you in all this,” Fred spoke up.

“It’s alright, I promise, it made my day a little better.” y/n said attempting to reassure him.

"It was nice seeing you laugh," Fred said again. Looking up y/n saw Fred, who now sat across from her. "It was nice seeing the prank master at work.”

After a long, painful hour they had finished their first night.

“That was… oddly fun.”

“Yes Fred, yes it was.”

Sending Fred a wave and small smile, y/n started down the corridor.

“Wait!” Fred called out, his words were frantic. grasping her hand he pulled her, their bodies pressed flush together. His face was flushed red and so was hers.

"Fred" she mumbled, a starstruck look was found in his eyes. The last hour they spent together Fred felt more connected than ever. He loved how willing she was to get into trouble with him, because other than his brother not many were.

"Just kiss me already, weasley" y/n whispered. Tugging him down by his jumper, she placed a loving kiss to the gingers lips. They were everything she dreamed they were, They were soft and plump.

An awkward cough pulled the two apart, “that was…. Endearing.” Snape grimaced, pulling his robe closer to him. Before shuffling back into his classroom he called out“Now get going before I give you another week of detention.”

“Well, I hope we could maybe, do that again tomorrow?” Fred questioned, rubbing the back of his neck, his hand still locked with hers.

“I would love that.”

Random head cannons for my AU because these require oddly specific questions I don’t think I’ve ever seen ask memes have.

A lot of these I do have something to back them up with, but others it's just logical hilarity to me because I can.

Kitty!Sonic:

- absolutely mistrusts/gets annoyed by anyone that is an "authority figure" (i.e. adults "in charge", leaders, etc) but does nothing to actually be useful. As a kid he was always told to listen to the adults because "they know best", but after the coup and seeing a good number of adults doing everything in their power to just save their own hides or hiding, it fucked him right off. Only adults he’s ever respected were his uncle and Rosie (Rosie took some time to gain that trust though because why the hell is she teaching us maths when people need help???). Bookshire is another but he does fight Bookshire on occasion because Sonic hates fussing with medical stuff.

This carried on into his own adulthood, and it’s hilarious whenever someone points out he’s the adult now as it sets off his aversion to being older, but if he has to be called an adult then damnit he’s gonna be a USEFUL one at least.

And yes he has confirmed on many occasions that he can and will flip off King Acorn if he plays up. What's he gonna do, ground him? Arrest his for treason? He flipped off Robotnik, he ain't scared of no thing.

- his uncle was brilliant with robotics and mechanics and science. Sonic has literally zero idea about any of those. And yet he’s weirdly good at chemistry. But he doesn’t get a lot of opportunities to use this so no one knows this, but Rotor has come by chemistry formulas mysteriously solved if he leaves them out on his workbench after a night of wracking his brains over why something isn’t working. How does Sonic know this? Nobody knows, Sonic will never tell either, and will deny he’s even good at it.

- he’s also very good at physics, in that he knows exactly how to break physics to do impossible shit. He’s great at figuring out just what angles he needs to shoot himself into to get the most air time, how much speed and lift to land in the exact spot, etc. It all happens automatically to him (it has to, going at the speeds he does there’s literally no time to plan this shit) but if someone asks him he will actually figure it out in the spot with freakishly good accuracy, and can do it not just with him being the projectile but any object (he has worked out perfect catapult trajectories before and it still baffles everyone to this day). Again, he doesn’t know how he knows this, will never tell anyone he knows how to do this, and will deny he knows this.

- he’s also good with musical instruments. Obviously his favourite is the electric guitar, but if you give him a sheet of music and at least an hour to mess around with the instrument he’ll work it out. Getting to watch him play the violin is a rare but delightful treat. This is his special interest, the thing he would have gotten into if the world hadn’t gone to shit. He doesn’t get to indulge in it as much as he’s like but he loves music and could ramble about it for hours on end if given the chance.

The con of this though is that he's really good at identifying music, including ones from operas and orchestras. Sally takes great delight in making him identify both because he does get embarrassed about it, but his pride doesn't allow him to just not pick them out.

- he likes to cook, but he prefers recipes that allow him to leave things to cook without him needing to watch it once it’s prepared. So baking, roasting, slow cook stuff like soups and chili, that’s his jam. Anything that’s gonna be a long haul he has to be basically trapped in his hut to do it without wanting to go nuts (so extra cold days where being outside would be hell are good cooking days).

- during the summer he sleeps in a hammock. During the winter he sleeps in a bed and practically buries himself in blankets.

- loves bubblegum. Gum balls, sticks of gum, whatever. If it’s gum he loves it. Unfortunately it is non existent thanks to the coup (shelf life of gum is terrible) so finding any that’s not terrible is an amazing day.

- milk and cookies is oddly a comfort food to him. Something about the simplicity of it just works for him, and ridiculously shit days are made better by it. Default choc chip cookies work best.

- he hates spiders. More specifically, he hates when you see a spider, look away, then look back only to find the spider is gone. Spiders themselves don’t bother him until they do that, but once they do he has to fight himself to not just set whatever building or dwelling he happens to be on fire in order to solve the issue of having to deal with it later.

- he’s about .0001 seconds away from just walking away into the forest and never coming back. He won’t do it because he honestly doesn’t want to abandon his friends… but he’s so close to just becoming a cryptic in the forest. He has wandered off before when things get super annoying, but someone always drags him back, much to his endless frustration.

Sally:

- can’t cook for anything. Sonic has seen her burn water. Toast somehow always ends in fire. No one ever attempt to drink her coffee for your own sake.

And yet somehow she makes really, really good pancakes. Like ridiculously good. She makes them very rarely because she’s always busy with something and has been banned from all kitchens, but when she does they’re amazing and no one can figure out how this happens.

- if she’s snacking on nuts or anything that doesn’t go soggy (like hard/dry fruits, or extra crusty breads) she will sometimes keep some in her cheeks. Not to the point that her cheeks will be bulging with them, but if she’s working while snacking she will just stash some away so she can focus on what she’s doing, and then when she’s done just finishes those off. This only happens when she needs to focus so she’s pretty discreet about this and has perfected talking/quick chewing with them if someone interrupts her.

- she loves video games, but because they’re so hard to come by thanks to the coup she doesn’t get to play as often as she’d like. She knows Sonic, Tails and Rotor has some stashed away and has played them on the sly, which has left them wondering how their high scores got beaten or how new levels have been unlocked. Though she has to be careful about this because if she’s left alone with them long enough she will just play them until either she finishes the game, or someone physically drags her away from it. This is probably her only weak point in terms of something that can just pull her away entirely from everything.

- she is very, very neat… only because she literally doesn’t make a mess of anything thanks to her one-track mind. If she’s working on a plan or something that needs a lot of research she will basically just make a pathway to her desk and bed and leave everything else undisturbed. She will still shower, only because the shower is just another place for her to think without interruption. This is a big factor on why she can’t cook for shit, too. She just… doesn’t. At all. Because she’s gotta work. Work is life because they may literally die if she can’t figure plans out

- she is genuinely fascinated by legends and myths, which we see a lot of in SatAM. Although she does sometimes dismiss some legends or myths as just stories, if she finds anything that even hints at it being real, and if time allows it, she will chase it down. If it’s anything that might be especially useful in their fight she will go for it after doing a ton of research to make sure she’s got every angle and possibility down. The researching to that extent is due to her own perfectionism, but also because if the expedition turns out to be a bust it could mean time that should have been spent on something else/time being away from the village for a crapshoot.

Sonic and Sally as a couple:

- they don’t use pet names for one another… until one of them is absolutely pushing their luck with the other. Pet names = stop it.

- Sally did once call Sonic a shit-weasel out of anger during such a scenario, and then was immediately apologetic for it because that was Too Far™. Sonic said that made him fall in love with her all over again and it was an awesome insult. Pet names are still a no-go though.

- they live together and everyone thinks it’s Sonic that would be the nightmare to live with.

It’s not.

It’s Sally.

Sonic does get messy and likes to live in organised chaos, but Sally just has the worst sleeping habits (she doesn’t sleep), functions mostly on auto-pilot (the amount of times she eats the last of something but leaves the box it came in/was stored in for Sonic to find drives him up the wall something shocking all because she’s just vaguely thinking "I need food I suppose" alongside whatever she’s doing at the time), and if she’s working on something big she will spread herself everywhere (including Sonic’s bed if he isn’t in it or on it in some way).

Sonic won’t move out because he genuinely thinks if he did Sally would never sleep at proper hours or eat like a regular person unless he monitors her. Plus they actually really do like each other’s company and do miss one another if they aren’t in the same space in their down time. But Sonic is constantly amazed at just how much of a gremlin Sally can be and no one believes him.

- Sally takes great delight in this and amps up her gremlin behaviour because of it. If she does this in front of anyone else it just gets encouraged. It’s okay though because Sonic knows how to be a bastard so it’s a constant battle of who can out bastard or out gremlin who.

- they sleep separately (see aforementioned sleeping habits of gremlin ground squirrel), but on occasion will share a bed. Or share the couch. Sharing will almost always result in Sonic being used as a pillow/mattress but he’s fine with it, as long as it means Sally’s sleeping and they get to cuddle ‘cause cuddling is great.

- Sally loves puns. Sonic has begged her not to say puns. He secretly loves them but he hates that he gets them (temporarily forgetting your own language, then relearning it is a trip and picking up the puns does things to his head). Sally does not stop the puns. This has led to Sonic almost achieving his goal of becoming a forest cryptic as he does just start walking out when she starts.

- this is kinda canon but I like to joke that they are actually legally married and this happened during their zone-hopping adventures. But the marriage itself happened in the most mundane way for the most mundane reason, and yet it is legally binding and they do actually have wedding rings from it. They don’t wear the rings but they do carry it on their person at all times, and pull them out just to blindside people with them because it’s funny.

03. the walk home

[Chapter 1]: NEW GIRL [Chapter 2]: LUNCH BREAK [Chapter 3]: THE WALK HOME

By the time I got back to the school the warning bell had already rung. I was so relieved when I walked into my fifth period to find Peter sitting at the table in the chemistry lab and MJ behind him waving me over to sit next to her. There was another boy I didn’t recognize next to Peter, but I quickly became acquainted with him. “Hey Nova,” Peter said as I sat down next to MJ, “This is Ned, Kal just moved here.” The boy, Ned shined his teeth towards me with a welcoming smile, “Sweet, yo if you ever need help on homework ask me. These two are complete dunces.” he said shaking my hand and adding a friendly wink. “Oh okay Ned, you keep telling yourself that.” MJ remarked from beside me causing me to laugh at their bickering.

The teacher quickly went over the syllabus and handed out papers for science donations. Once he was done he put a list up of silly questions on the board and assigned us to discuss them with our lab partners in order to ‘bond’. Five minutes in Peter and Ned had their seats turned towards MJ and I. The four of us talked about everything from Game of Thrones to what element on the periodic table is the most badass. They even invited me to join something called the Academic Decathlon Team. I had completely forgotten about by fight with Jade until she texted me.

Hey, can we talk? I hate fighting with you...

I can give you a ride home if you want. -j

A sigh escaped my lips, a little louder than I intended. Suddenly the groups attention focused onto me. “Woah, damn are you sick of us already?” MJ joked. I smiled tucking my phone away, “No I just got in a fight with Jade and she wants to talk.” A look of concern washed over Peter’s face, “Wait you guys seemed fine this morning, I thought she was taking you to lunch?” The three of them stared at me expectantly ready to hear the beef. Smiling I answered, “It’s really nothing, she was just trying to push her friends on me and when I told her I didn’t like her friends she told me I was committing social suicide. Then I may have said something about her friends being fake...” MJ scoffed, “Well you’re not wrong there.” Ned leaned over to our desk; resting his elbows on the table, “Yeah her friends can be mean sometimes, but maybe Jade just feels bad that you had to move in with them and wants to make sure you can make a life here ya know?” Strumming my nails against my phone case I said “Yea I know she has good intentions, but I feel like sometimes she forgets how much of a geek I am. I mean sure I get along with her and love her like a sister, but it’s a different dynamic when she isn’t with Mary Jane and Gwen. I’d rather hang out with you guys.”

*Ding*

I looked down at my phone to find another text from Jade.

If you don’t respond I’m gonna pick u up anyways. -j

“Shit.” I murmured. I did want to talk to her but not yet. “Is she texting you still?” Peter asked. “Yea, she’s asking if I want a ride home from school but I don’t feel like talking quite yet. And if I say no she’ll probably just show up anyways.” I explained. “Just tell her I offered to walk you home...” Hugging my backpack in my lap I said, “Are you sure Peter?” Peter shrugged “Y-yea,” He said with a slight crack in his voice. “We’re neighbors so I’d be going the same way anyways. Plus decathlon practice doesn’t start for another week.”

“That’d be awesome, thank you Peter.”

As the conversation moved back to decathlon practice I glanced back down at my phone to text Jade back.

The period ended with an online assignment of a pre-lab due next week. Just before the teacher could explain the system used at the school the bell rang and the herd of wild junior high school students pushed their way out of class. Once out of the classroom Peter and I said out goodbyes to Ned and Michelle as they made their way towards the bus.

Conversation with Peter was comfortable. He could be awkward at times, but he was good with keeping the conversation flowing. Hey, better awkward than forced right. While talking about his friendship with Ned your stomach decided to rudely interrupt by proudly showing off its whale noise demonstration. The talking immediately screeched to a halt before both of us erupted into a fit of laughter.

“Sorry I might be a little hungry, by the time I had walked back from that pizza place lunch was already over.”

Peter’s laughter died down, “Well do you wanna get some food, I know a good place nearby. Best sandwiches in Queens.” he said with a raised eyebrow. “Well how could refuse that,” I said dramatically placing a hand over my chest “Lead the way good sir.” He grinned and nodded his head to the side insinuating to follow him.

“So what has you so interested in science?” He questioned. I smiled towards the uneven concrete littered with gum. “Well my mom is a chemist. So I kind of grew up with her constantly sharing facts about the world. At first I couldn’t stand it, but after a while I found myself intrigued by what she was telling me. Not to mention how convenient it was to already understand things like the conservation of matter when other students were left dazed and confused by the teachers sucky explanation.” Peter hooked his thumbs under the straps of his backpack and said, “So do ya think you’ll go into that field in college?” I looked up at Peter, “Um...” I paused thinking of how to answer, “Well, I really like learning about all that stuff and it’s not like my grades are horrible or anything its just...Once things start to get complicated I start to fall behind. And seeing these brilliant scientists like my mom and Tony Stark.” Peter held the door to the small deli as I continued my thoughts, “I don’t know if I’m smart enough to get into that field.” Peter opened his mouth as if he were going to respond, but before he had the chance the man behind the counter beat him to the punch.

“Mr. Parker! Welcome back," He yelled as we walked towards the counter, “Ah and lady friend, welcome-” The man extended his hand. “Kal.” I said kindly returning the handshake. “Well Miss Kal that’s quite the shake you got there. I assume the usual for you Mr. Parker?” Peter slapped two bags of sour gummies on the counter and responded, “Yea that’d be great Mr. Delmar. How about you Kal?” Confused by the menu I shrugged, “I’ll get whatever you're having.” Mr. Delmar punched something into the old cash register and the worker behind him asked over his shoulder, “Ya want pickles on that?”

“Yes please!” I answered. Peter looked at me in disgust, “Ew, pickles really? I feel like I don’t know you anymore.” Giggling I nudged his side and said “Oh shut it.”

“Alright that’ll be $10″ Mr. Delmar said. Peter and I quickly exchanged glances before racing for our wallets simultaneously. We were quick to tie in our little race as he held out a crisp $10 bill and I extended my debit card towards the man. Mr. Delmar smirked at me as he took Peter’s cash, “Sorry boss, we only take cash here. No cards.”

“Ha!” Peter said grabbing the wrapped up sandwiches from the counter teasingly jogging away with both sandwiches out of the deli. “Hey!” I yelled running after him, quickly catching up and grabbing the sandwich from him. swinging the bag the sandwich was in I asked, “So where does one go to eat the best sandwich in Queens?” He scratched the back of his neck looking up towards the buildings. “Well, it involves a bit of climbing. But we can go somewhere else if you don’t feel like doing that sort of thing.” He said as his voice raised an octave higher with each word. I scoffed, “Oh Peter you seriously underestimate me and my sense of adventure.” He smiled widely, “Okay.” he said grabbing my hand and leading me down an alleyway between two apartment buildings.

“You want me to what?!”

He ended up leading me up a narrow fire escape at least 6 floors up (it really felt like 20) and was now instructing me how to get on top of the building from the roof.

“Just trust me. Climb up onto the railing and reach for my hands and I’ll pull you up. Promise.”

“No offense Pete, but I don’t know if you’ll be able to pull me up.”

“I’m stronger than it seems, c’mon I thought you had a sense of adventure.”

“Hey I do have a sense of adventure”

“Okay prove it then.”

“Shit” I murmured under my breath placing one foot on the rail before standing up and using the brick wall to steady myself. Looking up at Peter I reached one hand out that ended up being inches away from his. “Jump.” He said calmly. “WHAT?” my eyes widened at his suggestion. He simply smiled at my reaction and said, “Trust me. Just keep looking at me. I’ll catch you, promise.”

“That just makes me trust you less.” I said. He didn’t respond he just held his hands out waiting to catch you. Pressing my tongue between my teeth and against my lips I took one last breath and pressed off the fire escape. For a brief moment it felt as if I were going to plummet to my death. The moment passed quickly when I felt Peter’s hand tightly grabbing mine as he swung me up to the rooftop. Once my feet safely reached the floor i delivered a quick punch to his chest. “Ow, what no ‘Thank you for catching me Peter I’m eternally grateful’“ he said mockingly. Laughing at what just happened I could feel the adrenaline pumping through my system, “Oh my god, you do that every time?” I said sitting on a nearby ledge. Peter sat down next to me, unwrapping his sandwich “No actually I’ve never been on this building before, It’s pretty awesome though right?” he said cheekily taking a bit into his sandwich. Shaking my head I stared at the boy in shock, “Peter Parker... Who knew.” He smiled cheesily with his cheeks full of sandwich. Silence overcame over both of us as I unwrapped the sandwich and chewed on my first bit.

“Hey, about what you said earlier in the deli. About not feeling smart enough...” He said breaking the silence. I hummed in response taking another bite. “I think you should know that just because those harder concepts don’t come as easy to you doesn’t mean you’re not smart. If anything that makes you even smarter cause you have to really work hard to be in all those crazy classes you’re taking this year. I think you should seriously consider a science major for college. And if you ever get stuck on anything we could get MJ and Ned together and have a study session. Or if you have any questions you can always tap on my window or text me.” I couldn’t help the smile from spreading over my lips as I said, “Thank you.” He nodded sheepishly looking down towards his lap.

“Gummy?”

He asked offering the bag of candy towards me. Which I gracefully accepted. We spent the rest of the time eating our food discussing the French Revolution for no reason whatsoever.

By the time I made it home it was close to 4:30. Both Mom and Wes were at work meaning Jade was the only one home. “Jay?” I called out into the empty apartment. “In our room!” she yelled back. Placing my backpack on the kitchen chair I made my way back to the room to find her sitting crossed-legged on her bed typing on her computer. I walked over to my bed and sat on the edge, “Whatcha writing?” I asked. “Lyrics for music class. It’s not due or anything, but if I wanna sing something of my own at the winter concert I have to get it approved by Mr. Bell ASAP.” she explained.

“...”

“I’m sorry”

“No, I’m sorry Kal. I shouldn’t have tried to force my friends on you. I just think you’re so great I wanted them to like you and you to like them...”

“No Jay, I shouldn’t have said they’re fake. I just feel intimidated by them and I really like hanging out with MJ, Ned, and Peter.”

She grinned, “I know, I should’ve realized they’d be good for you. And Michelle is sweet... Just don’t get on her bad side ‘kay?” I chuckled a quick okay. She pushed her laptop off to the side and turned to lay on her stomach faced towards me, “So how was your first day, anything exciting?” she asked.

“Oh god, you would not believe it...” I said as I began to explain the adventuring with Peter.

BIOGRAPHY.

Laurence Lou Lewis couldn’t ever find his voice. Even when he was a tiny baby, he was quiet. In his suffering, he was quiet. If you watched him, you could see how he was though. Taking in the world with a soft of gentle touch. While he lived no where near a perfect life, Laurence was happy with it. He didn’t mind the way of the world. Laurence looked up to his mother as any little boy would. He loved her dearly, despite all the bad things that happened.

His twin often took care of him. Laurence wasn’t sure why he didn’t take care of the other. It seemed odd, for one to be the big brother and the other to be complacent, but that was just his personality. Laurence wasn’t a fighter. He never wanted to fight with anyone. Instead, he sat and waited for his mom to come around. For his brother to take care of himself for once. Laurence didn’t know how to start this sequence of events, but he knew he would do it. What his twin didn’t know is that he would give up his food at lunch— he was constantly stressed out, despite his lack of ability to fight. He didn’t eat till he needed too. Laurence thought that this would save them money, that then his twin wouldn’t have to be a man anymore and that Laurence could be a man too. This is where his habit of not eating came into play.

Then, Bo came into the picture and life was good for a while. That’s where Laurence got the nickname Laurie, from Bo. He was such a small child, smaller than his brother in stature. You could often see his ribs, a side affect from not eating. The not eating got worse as the relationship with Bo continued. He was not the dream that made their lives better. No, he was the opposite.

The drinks in his hand would turn out to be Laurie’s least favorite thing. He and his mom would drink, and it became a cycle. She got into harder stuff, and she changed from that girl she used to be. Laurie didn’t look up to her anymore. He hid in his room most days, or if he was feeling lonely, her room. He’d peek his head over hers, and curl up in the blanket next to her as she told him to leave. After a minute, he would. Laurie couldn’t stand to see her sad. He was sad too, but hid it better. He smiled more than she did.

As the fights got worse, the more bruises there were, the less Laurie ate. He hated eating at this point, fighting every urge for food. It was worse than before. He drank water, chewed gum, anything to curb the appetite. Laurie ate just enough to keep his body alive— barely. While his brother lashed out, Laurie kept quiet. He studied harder, late nights that kept him pushing through. However, the boy didn’t know what he wanted to do with his life. He was in JROTC for middle school, and ROTC seemed like a good thing to do.

But, he was so frail. So, Laurie tried to start liking food again. He tried his hardest to fix his problem. It was impossible, honestly. But, now, he ate the right amount to stay fit. Laurie hated it, but he did it. At 16, he met an army recruiter. At 18, he enlisted, and went to basic training. Laurie learned everything there was to know, and gave it his all at all times. The nights with no sleep, the little food, the power to push through the fear; all these things in his past life helped him with the army.

He was deployed at 19, and served over in the Iraqi War. He did this for 18 months, came back to nothing, and then went back. At 21, he was an officer, and they were embarking on a desert journey. Everything went black, and when Laurie woke up, his sense of hearing was gone. He had a traumatic brain injury that caused him to be deaf.

Laurie had to relearn life all over again. With PTSD, no ability to hear and no understanding of American Sign Language, Laurie decided to go to Boston University and get his degree in ASL. After a year of studying there, he added on Elementary Education so he could teach at the school for the deaf in Boston.

While all this has been going on, Laurie has turned to not eating again. He rarely makes himself do it, still wanting control in his life. After living in the dorms, Laurie decided to go to King’s Terrance, after hearing really nice things about it. Boston seems to be a new home for him, and Laurie is fine with that.

WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST STRENGTH? HOW DOES IT COME IN HANDY?

My greatest strength is my courage. Whenever something is hard, you have to do it. And I do the things that are hard, and the things I don’t want to do. After being in the Army, life afterwards is extremely difficult, but you manage. You always have to manage. That’s how it comes in handy, learning to manage everything that scares you and doing the quiet things that scare you too. So yeah, I’m courageous, I guess.

WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST WEAKNESS? HOW DOES IT AFFECT YOUR DAY-TO-DAY LIFE?

Um, well, I think it’s the fact I’m terrified. Even though I am courageous the fear somehow engulfs me at times. Yeah, I know. I just am still learning how to be a person with a disability and keep my life together. I’m always scared that I’ll have a flashback in public and won’t be able to tell anyone. Y’know?

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN TEN YEARS?

Teaching. Hopefully I’ll have a wife and maybe a kid. I really just want to be happy, though. I think that’s what I’ve always wanted. So, yeah. Teaching. Wife. Kid. Happy. That’s where I see myself in 10 years. That’s where I’ll hope I’ll be in 10 years.

WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO KING’S TERRACE?

It’s convenient. I hated my dorm. And it’s a nice complex. I really just want to make connections with people again. I’m very excited to move in. It’s been a…..n interesting life. I’m just ready to move past it and tell myself that it’ll be alright. And, I think being here will do that.

IF YOU COULD GO BACK IN TIME AND TELL YOUR YOUNGER SELF SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Life doesn’t get easier, but it won’t suck as much. You’ll make friends; you’ll get past all the bullshit. You won’t make it very far, but you’ll be out of that town before you know it.
