I don’t know what to do about the internet. It’s getting worse, and getting worse faster than I think any of us ever could have imagined even just six years ago. Tumblr shot itself in the heart at the behest of Apple, at the behest of whichever nameless evangelical finance perverts are in charge of credit card policy, whereupon people like me (artists and people who like art) fled in droves to Twitter, the present state of which I don’t have it in me to be funny about.
Even after that one-two punch, Twitter and Tumblr are still the only (major) social media platforms I can stand to use. I mean, they’re the last ones left where you can, for example, see posts that your friends have made. I might have said that that seemed like the whole point of social media; every digital elsewhere has now collectively agreed that it is, in fact, social media’s greatest flaw. Your friends like to hang out and post weird jokes and titty drawings — they don’t know the first thing about your favorite marketing trends, let alone your unslakable thirst for 30-second phone videos. We have to move on: I’ll die if I think about it.
Uh — I wanna let you in a little. Here’s where I’m at, okay? I’m working on this project. I like it a lot: it’s a writing thing and an art thing and a music thing all at the same time. I’m still struggling with art burnout, but every day I get to sit down and write or compose for this thing is an unending delight, so on the balance it’s been great to work on. It’s taken me a while to get here, though — I’ve blown past all my estimates about when it’d be done. Still, it won’t be much longer.
In the mean time, I keep having these compulsive worries. I feel that I should be posting, but the nature of a long-form project like this is that I don’t have anything to post. I tweet complete nothings now and then, as if to announce my presence, like a lighthouse pulsing in the distance. And every week the websites get worse. They’re bleeding out, and it feels like some of my blood’s in there, maybe. Like, maybe you’d call me naïve, but it wasn’t that long ago that I really, really liked all this online stuff. I never had the hustle culture mindset about it: by good luck alone I managed to make a living posting the stuff I wanted to post on the places I wanted to post it.
The places I liked to post don’t exist anymore. My experience of using the internet feels hostile, alien. The ground beneath all our feet feels eggshell-thin.
But I have to use the internet: it’s where my stuff goes. It’s where all of you are. Here is where art and artists and art-likers live.
The things I love live here, in precarity, as the saw blades and lava traps of our digital dungeon grow every day more numerous.
Anyway, what I’m saying is that the web sucks now, but as long as we’re here — and we will be here — I want to try loving it again anyway. I want to untangle myself from all this disappointment and expectation and try simply “vibing” again. I wanna use cohost more: I’ll even crosspost stuff to Tumblr like I keep saying I should. I’m making a cool thing and I should show it off! I should relearn how to draw a little doodle and post it without feeling like it’s a suboptimal use of my time or whatever!! I want to believe in what joy may find us, though our world be a dumpster.

also this is sword anon again and honestly your cookie run art is partially why i wanna get back into it after a long time but i remember some drama circulating around that darkmilk has a significant age gap n stuff and in extension so does yammilk (ik your pinned post doesnt include them I just added that since that was part of the discussion) so whats your take on their age thing cuz idk what type of shipper you are lol
HII AGAIN LFMAOO BUT OKFG RLLYYY?? YAYYY
I don’t talk about milkyam cause I just don’t like the ship, or most of its shippers. I don’t like a lot of choco ships tbh..but all I will say, is milk would protect choco from yam BUT THATS IT. THATS ALL.
for me, I hc young prince as 15 and milk around the same age, idk maybe 13? I cant see how people think young prince choco was an adult...?? Yes she went out to find a sword by herself but I think she was only allowed that because she is a good fighter and can survive on her own, it’s obvious cacao had trust that choco will return safely.
She just looks tall or mature for her age ig?? I think it’s because how she was raised, never allowed to be a child and trained to be better but yea no, I fr can’t see her as an adult here
edit: I forgot to add but she still kind of had that “oblivious” mindset I guess? Believing she can save her kingdom and could change her fathers mind even tho he’s so stubborn and that mentality of being “a hero just like his father”, I’m sure thats associated w younger people because “ur just a child you don’t know any better”
after she comes back she sees what her father rlly is and basically calls him a coward. It’s fr someone maturing and seeing someone for what they rlly are, not blinded by the child mentality anymore and only seeing someone as perfect when they’re not at all (not saying cacao is a coward mb minty, but bro wasn’t the best father 🙏😔 I love cacao) but also choco is manipulated easily because of her weak mentality.. my girl.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know a lot of people are iffy or just hate chocomilk and that’s alr ig but god pls enough w tagging the ship and making threads telling people to hate it.
I know someone whose too afraid to draw it because of what people say and I’m like !! I got you bro I’ll draw it for us!!
Also I don’t think devsis would even allow such a ship to exist if it was wrong?? (it’s funny cause they make art of it n even make captions like that one where choco and lico go to an amusement park together, w “don’t tell milk” )
also I just hate how mischaracterized milk is w choco... my god y’all are weird as fuck w him. Milk wouldn’t harass choco or stalk him pls stop that, it’s uncomfortable..
he respects his space and choco’s life. When he met choco in that cutscene, people took choco being “uncomfortable” around milk, he wasn’t? He was just shocked or just “?? Rlly??” Kind of reaction because this man hasn’t been told anything nice after he became “bad” or whatever, so having someone tell him that he was the reason they became stronger and “want to be just like him” is obviously shocking to her, she wouldn’t believe that she made someone life better because she thought she only hurt people and deserved to be hated and treated in any way.
Anyway yea, they def both met as teens, didn’t see eachother til adults and it’s obvious milk is in love w choco idc (me too bro)
this is long as fuck sorry but GOD I NEEDED TO SAY SHIT!!
Take the cute art tho I love them sm (I think choco just has the mentality that no one could love him after what he’s done so he doesn’t understand why milk faints all flustered n shit but the idea of her being oblivious is cute too 😭 fuck it shes both!!)

“holy shit judie there’s like at least 50 people here right now…” you said to your brunette friend who just chuckled nervously.
“yeah, and even though we’re halfway through freshman year, i still haven’t made a lot of friends in this specific class…” judie mumbled as you watch her tie her messy brown locks into a low pony. hybe uni’s dance studio was remarkably and undeniably huge. music was already blasting when you and judie first arrived. as an artist, you are used to the looks other artists give you: full of respect, but also a hint of competitiveness. you could say the same in this exact situation and space. as soon as you and judie stepped inside the space, you could already sense the pride and competitiveness of other dancers just from how they present themselves. with your mind wandering around, judie suddenly groaned. you switch your gaze at her.
“you good?” you asked her as she stands up to stretch.
“yeah, just saw like the best dancers in my class…why am i surprised that they’re also auditioning for a choreo proposal?” she rambled. you looked at judie and followed her gaze, finally looking at three figures, one of them being all too familiar.
“oh! it’s minghao…” you said outloud. judie stretched her arms and scoffed.
“your art friend?” she asked as you just nodded. you kept watching the three males settle on. unsurprisingly, minghao just stayed back while the other two went on the marley to stretch.
you unconsciously kept staring at minghao as he watches his friends goof around stretch. suddenly he faced your direction and widen his eyes. you jolt in surprise and sheepishly waved at him, smiling. he softly smiled and waved back at you. would it be weird if you went to him and leave your friend behind? is what you were saying in your head, already walking towards minghao’s direction.
minghao on the other hand was freaking out. the girl he has admired since the first day of school smiled cutely at him. he didn’t even expect you to be here at the dance studio today. but then again, he thinks he knows you, but you were still a stranger to him in the contrary. minghao watched you walk towards him. though you were only wearing cargo pants and a plain hoodie, minghao still sees you beautiful.
“hey, kinda surprised to see you here! since most of the time you’re in the art studio!” you said to him as you sit down right next to his spot. he scoot a but to give you space and nodded.
“yeah, but i’d say the same thing to you,” he chuckled “my friends invited me to watch their choreography for ‘moral support’ but i doubt that since they’ve been dancing since they were like 5.” minghao said to you as you softly laughed.
“hm, my friend also invited me to watch her choreography! i’m not really into dance but the choreo that people create are amazing.” you said to him as you switch your eyes back to judie, who was now in the marley warming up. minghao looked where you were looking at and smiled.
“is that your friend over there?” he asks, pointing at judie. you nodded and rest your head on your knees.
“yup, judie, she’s a great dancer, but sometimes she doubts herself too much.” you quietly mumbled to yourself but minghao heard it clearly. minghao only hummed. you suddenly turned your head to face minghao, who was now also hugging his knees.
“have you ever doubted yourself too? despite being a great artist?” you ask him. he sighed and nodded.
“of course. if you have never doubted your skills and yourself, i don’t think you’ll be able to improve. i think there should be a 50/50 mindset where you are confident with yourself but also needing to look at your flaws to improve.” he simply said. you looked at him in admiration and smiled.
“man, i wish i was as wise as you, minghao.” you said. he only chuckled heartily.
“i don’t really see myself as a wise person, but i just try to look at things on the brighter side.” he replied. you hummed and put your attention back to the dancers as the judges, their dance instructors, started calling out names to start the choreography proposals. watching the first few students perform their piece, you couldn’t deny that they’re all talented. you suddenly felt a hot breath behind your ear and on the corner of your eyes you see minghao whispering something to you.
“my friend is up next, i bet a pink oil pastel that he’s going to do a tiger impression in his piece.” he whispered. you chuckled at his statement.
“a pink oil pastel? that’s so random! and why a tiger impression?” you ask him.
“he’s obsessed with tigers and he thinks he’s a tiger himself.” he answered, completely ignoring your first question. you paid no mind to it and faced the marley, now a raven haired male standing there by himself.
“hey, i’m kwon soonyoung and i’ll be performing a hip hop piece about shifting perspectives of the world as a kid to an adult.” he introduced himself. as you watch him say his introduction, you could feel the intimidation that he’s giving off on others. ivy by frank ocean started playing and he immediately dancing on lyrics. though his piece was hiphop, he danced gracefully. after finishing performing, he suddenly put one of his hand out and made a squeeze gesture, in which you found confusing. minghao, beside you, however laughed. you raised your brows at him and he leaned closer.
“he’s doing a tiger gesture, like a tiger’s claw.” he said in between giggles. you have always find his giggles cute. he chuckled and leaned back on the wall.
“i guess i owe you a pink oil pastel?” you said as he only looked at you with a soft smile. you switched your gaze back to the marley when you heard your friend’s name being called. you shyly cheered as judie walks in the middle of the marley. she looks comfortable now compared to when you first arrived.
“hello, my name is liu judith. i’ll be showcasing a contemporary piece,” she paused. now this surprised you. judie wasn’t a contemporary dancer, but a hiphop dancer, “about a perspective of an adult that yearns their childhood and teenage years.” she finished. her song, ribs by lorde, started playing, and judie danced the song away. compared to soonyoung, whose performance was full of screams and cheers, judie had none. you wondered if they actually liked judie’s piece, or they actually just dislike her. in the hook of the song, judie started dancing more agressive in contrast to the rhythm if the song. you looked around you and saw some people intensely watching her, some even with teary eyes. so it did hit them. ending her piece, people slowly started cheering for her. she looked at your way and smiled widely, and you did as well. you turned your head to look at minghao, and he was also in awe. he looked back at you and stared in shock.
“that was such a great piece.” he said in awe as you nodded, still smiling proudly.
“ooooh, who knew these freshmen actually have a drive in them!” a voice suddenly said beside you. you looked back and saw soonyoung, who was now a sweater and a beanie, while holding a hoodie.
“hyung, you did okay.” minghao simply said as soonyoung sits beside you.
“okay? just okay?! ah, myungho…” he sulked as you chuckled. soonyoung raised his head and smiled at you.
“i’m soonyoung! what’s good?” he asks. you smiled sheepishly at him.
“everything’s alright…i’m yn!” you introduced yourself as you see judie getting into their dressing room, probably changing out of her sweaty clothes.
“yn? hmm sounds familiar!” soonyoung said. the three of you continued watching the proposals when suddenly you saw judie being pulled by another girl in their group of circle. you pondered for a moment trying to figure out who it was. minghao noticed you and leaned closer.
“that’s yves. don’t worry she’s nice.” he said to you as you nodded. all of a sudden, soonyoung started whistling.
“LET’S GO JUNHUIIII!!” he yelled. your sweatdropped from his energy as you watch the last dancer present their piece, in which you recognized as one of minghao’s friends. you leaned closer to minghao.
“your friend?” you ask him. he nodded and sighed.
“yup, the one that begged me to be here.” he joked as you giggled.
“i’m wen junhui, i’ll be performing a contemporary piece…i don’t know i just choreographed it. see it how you see it.” he simply said, which he got chuckles and annoyed groans from. i love you by billie eilish started playing, and without a doubt, judie wasn’t wrong about him being one of the best dancers along with soonyoung. he danced with his emotions and if you were being honest, you almost cried. completing his piece, everyone cheered and clapped. you swear you even heard someone full on crying.
the dance instructors finally told everyone that the results for the accepted proposals will be out in 4 days. everyone started packing their things and leaving. minghao and soonyoung stood up from their spots and grab their bags, but minghao stayed and reached his hand out for you. you held his hand to stand up and thanked him. he smiled softly at you. you were about to say something to him when you were pulled in a hug by someone.
“fuck! that was the scariest moment of my life, yn!” judie said behind your neck as she hugs you from behind. you smiled softly and patted her head.
“you did so great! even my friend thinks you’re amazing!” you said, motioning to minghao. minghao smirked.
“so we’re friends now?” he slyly said, in which you blushed.
“i mean! we’re kinda buddy buddy now? i’m sorry if i made you uncomfy!” you apologized, but minghao only giggled and patted your head the way you did for judie.
“i was just joking, of course we’re friends.” he reassured. you smiled up at him when judie removed her grip form your body to stand beside you. you felt her tense up when soonyoung and junhui walked back to minghao.
“shit i didn’t even know our choreos should have a meaning to them…” junhui confusingly said as soonyoung laughed.
“we’ve been doing this for a year and a half now!” soonyoung chuckled as he puts an arm around minghao. soonyoung looked at judie, and so did junhui. suddenly the air thickened. you gulped and side eyes judie, who was giving the males the stinkiest eye you’ve ever seen.
“hey judie! you were amazing back there!” soonyoung complimented her. judie only nodded while you and minghao stared at your friends. junhui on the other hand shifted his gaze away from judie to you.
“oh! are you yn?” he asked you. you looked at him in confusion. how the hell does he know you of all people.
“uhm yeah? that’s me.” you stammered. you tried not to look into his gaze when he suddenly pulled out his phone, texting someone. soonyoung shamelessly eavesdropped junhui’s texting and gasped.
“it’s her?!” soonyoung asked as junhui slapped his head.
“idiot! don’t be loud!” he said, putting his phone back into his pocket. he smiled softly at you.
“it’s nice to finally meet you.” he said. you were lowkey creeped out by this. sure, he’s good looking, but him knowing your name and being her made your skin crawl. minghao noticed your changed demeanor and went to your side.
“aye, don’t scare her! i’m sorry they’re like this. i have no clue why they’re acting like this but i’m guessing they’re being nosy and wants to know something…” he side eyed his friends as the two males only shrugged their shoulders. you appreciated his gesture and smiled softly.
“it’s alright…but what’s up with you three?” you asked judie, soonyoung and junhui. judie was still giving them a bitch face the whole time. soonyoung looked at you with confusion, while junhui only shrugged his shoulders.
“i don’t know, ask your friend. ever since the school year started, she has always been giving me and soonie a stink eye.” junhui said. this made judie scoff.
“i am not! i just look like this.” judie said as you raised your brow at her.
“we both know your brows don’t knit together.” you get back at her, earning a sigh from your friend. she looked at the two males in front of you and whispered into your ear, not letting them hear.
“okay, i thought they were girls and flirted with them. but then i found out they’re men. i’m disgusted by myself because of it.” she said in embarrassment as you started giggling.
“judie, so you’re telling me this happened like three times? this is insane. i’ll definitely tweet this.” you joked in between laughs, only getting a slap on the head from judie. minghao, soonyoung and junhui stared at you two as you finally explained to them that judie was just having an existential crisis. judie apologized to the two, but still held a grudge against them. soonyoung shook it off, but junhui was just looking at her, as if trying to get more out of the situation. minghao cleared his throat and called out soonyoung.
“hyung, can i borrow your hoodie and beanie?” he asked, in which soonyoung agreed to do so. you were saddened that minghao’s fit was now covered with a basic one. you completely forgot to compliment his outfit! suddenly, your train of thoughts were stopped by junhui.
“oh! yn, judie, wanna come with us and eat dinner?” he ask you two. you and judie looked at each other. judie first replied.
“i’m not paying.” junhui laughed and nodded. you sighed and smiled softly.
“yeah sure!”

Ok, here are some thoughts on Death Grips, cause I forgot earlier whoops
I’ve been feeling some latent frustration with how I see a lot of people online engage with their music. I don’t mean to be some kind of elitist about this, but a lot of the (deserved) praise that I see them getting feels kind of…detached? It’s almost always coming from the kind of “woah, this music is crazy…but it works somehow?” mindset. I know I’m absolutely making a strawman argument here, but I’ve seen it enough times to where I feel like it’s not just a person I’m making up in my head to be mad at.
I feel like some people don’t get that DG isn’t good in spite of the “insanity”, they’re good because of the “insanity”. And I’ll admit, a lot of their music can be quite alienating! They use lots of abrasive textures, MC Ride’s performances can get very intense, it’s all a lot. But I feel like there are tons of moments of sheer beauty within DG’s discography. The riff from Centuries of Damn comes to mind, it’s so tired and desperate sounding, it’s incredible.
Hearing the incredible art that DG puts out is great, but to see a lot of people in it for the pure spectacle is a little disheartening. And I’m not trying to claim to be the only one who really gets Death Grips, at least I hope I’m not. I just really only see people talk about how crazy they are instead of how flat-out good they are.
Like, each member of DG itself is so talented!
Ride’s ability to channel that much visceral feeling into his performances is impressive on its own, it’s a miracle his throat hasn’t completely given out yet. But it feels so shitty to pigeonhole his style into “Funny homeless man screaming”. First of all, that’s just fucking rude. Second, that’s so reductive! Screaming isn’t all he does, he’s a really damn versatile performer! I never feel like he’s phoning it in or reusing a vibe, he does exactly what needs to be done, every single track. Lots of the most memorable moments of DG’s music are when Ride drops the yelling, and just talks. It’s chilling every time. Plus, his ability to keep a consistent flow over the off-kilter production is a feat all on its own.
Speaking of which, I think Andy Morin might be one of my favorite music producers right now. Right up there with Arca, Patricia Taxxon, Nigel Godrich, that real legendary shit. Like Ride, it never feels like I’m hearing the same thing twice. Each DG track sounds and feels so distinct, even while keeping within the general industrial, electronic, and punk sound palettes. Even my least favorite DG project in terms of production, NLDW, never ever felt lazy or unfinished. I think it’s an excellent project, I just don’t personally enjoy it as much as other DG albums, for very superficial reasons. On projects I prefer more, I still strongly feel that he’s very skilled at creating unique sounds, while still maintaining a sense of familiarity within the outlandish production.
Regarding Zach Hill, I think his drumming speaks for itself. Like, watch any video of a live Death Grips performance. That man goes absolutely ham on the drums, every single time. It’s a wonder he hasn’t snapped his wrists more often. Admittedly, he is the DG member I have the least to say about. I tend to get lost in the electronic elements of most DG tracks, I don’t pay as much attention to the drumming. I also have yet to check out Hella, but I’ve heard nothing but good things about them. Moving forward, I’m definitely going to try to keep my ears open to what he’s doing while the other elements of the tracks pass me by. I’m certain I’ll find something incredible.
Put together, they’re easily one of the most unique and consistently astonishing bands ever. I say that with my full chest. I don’t know, I just really like them! Sorry for the rambling, I just wanted to get all of this out there. Bottom line, Death Grips Good.

JJK season 2 episode 21 thoughts! ✨
Tumblr media
Went into this episode expecting the iconic “I am you” scene to be animated, left with two incredible works of art now ingrained into my memories (todo and takada-chan beating up mahito)
All this about Todo wanting to imitate All Might from MHA last episode, but I’m thrilled that the animators confirmed that Todo is actually living the magical idol anime dream that Gege Akutami initially was going to write before starting JJK. AND managed to make the volume cover I never really liked into a beautiful and hilarious moment 💗✨
Music / ost worked the entire episode and went silent when it was needed. Some of the previous eps had parts with their pacing or music that lessened the emotions of the scenes (e.g. right after Nanami died), but everything here flowed well!
As much as I like talking about JJK, sometimes, at my core, I just like watching a good and entertaining fight scene, and that was a majority of this episode until the end. It battle shonen’d in the best way a battle shonen can be. It’s a satisfying feeling to have snail mahito, a birthday, a magical girl segment, and a metaphorical rabbit wolf clashing of truths all in one fight.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The voice acting still amazing with every episode—Mahito and Yuuji being the highlights. I’ve said this a few times, but Mahito’s VA captures the (literal) childish personality and mindset of his character. Last episode, it was how he threw around and yelled at Yuuji like a kid throwing around a doll. This ep was along the same lines, with him immediately crying and throwing dirt at Yuuji. It’s not the exact same, since he is a curse, but it shows how he just came into being and was constantly learning and curious about the world. And the second Yuuji actually badly hurts him, stops him from running away, and repeats similar beliefs back to him, he breaks down. They really are the “same.”
Now Yuuji!!! His new conviction, if it can be called that, about being a cog made to kill curses until he’s worn out. Not exactly the healthiest mindset, but it’s an unsurprising progression after losing control of his own body/autonomy, losing his mentor and best friend (both figures of reassurance and hope), having his entire foundation for living and abiding by his grandpa’s dying wishes be challenged—all while needing to keep moving forward, to not fall into complete despair.
The voice acting in his speech back to Mahito sounded lifeless, but authentic to what he now believes. I appreciated how little the VA gave emphasis to any words and spoke it all in one similar tone. Some of the way it was spoken also sounded like it was affected somewhat by his mouth wound, which was a nice touch.
Manga spoilers for the points below‼️
Continuing: Yuuji’s new mindset is faulty and I love how much the episode shows the flaws of how Mahito and him thought, and how they’re both still incredibly young with their views constantly challenged by their new experiences. We get what’s supposed to be a cathartic scene of Yuuji killing Mahito and stalking him like a predator towards a prey animal, only to have the final killing blow be taken by Kenjaku, another predator (when your mom steals your deserved murder 🙄).
I’ve always appreciated how this moment was not presented as this great turn of beliefs that leads to success, and instead immediately gives him this unfulfilling and destructive outcome. Like, I’ll take Yuuji beating Mahito as a momentary win, but it’s not going to work out in the long run for himself or anyone. Which makes me interested in where his character is headed for the rest of the manga. There’s probably more to say with him regarding the story’s themes on strength/weakness, enlightenment, hunger, etc., but I love what we are given here.
His entire cog in a machine (of war) also reminds me of the series’ title emphasizing endless repetition of fights and everything looping (got the translation from the blog at kylescooter.com). JJK has constant examples and themes of past generation vs new generations, traditional vs unconventional, etc, but also repeating history and being stuck in the same ways. This post is already too long, but I wonder how Gege will conclude all this and if anything will change.
Said up there that there wasnt anything I disliked about the episode, but I do wish wolf Kenjaku was added! Not just because I adore the scene (for its imagery and hinting at them being related), but also because it would’ve been cool to transition out of that scene by having wolf Kenjaku show up.
Next ep will have Choso, the Kyoto school, Kenjaku, Uraume, and Yuki!! Also that Mei Mei scene which I am absolutely dreading.
Also the next ep preview with Kenjaku was fun

And with that, that’s that
Wow. So, uh, I just finished my quick-fire reviews of each and every Archie Sonic ever released.
I may have skipped one or two, such as the “Sonic & Sabrina the Teenage Witch“ one, but regardless, there’s a sense of finality to having given these issues a close look for so long. Page have been analysed, discussions have been had with friends and followers, and I’ve given my two rings on various Archie Sonic topics and its varying creative team. It’s honestly very strange, having reviewed these silly Sonic comics on and off since 2015, and now finding myself with no more books to read. I was thrust back into the mindset I had back in 2017, where I ranted and raved that the comics were over, but I was a dumb kid back then. Going from this series’ jokey beginning, continuing through to the Ken Penders era, the Dork Age, the much more decent Ian Flynn era, the reboot, Sonic: Mega Drive...seeing the evolution of this book, I feel like I’ve grown as a reviewer alongside it. I hold this comic series close to my heart.
Tumblr media
For real though, it’s not just been me. There are a lot of really cool peeps who’ve also shared their own thoughts on the comics, and I love that! Hearing about what others have to say on stuff I am also passionate about is honestly the best. Really gets my hyperfixated brain running! I must give a humble thanks to @scruffyplayssonic, @konnichibot, @kellodrawsalot @firebirdmaximus, @kkobun, @nuttyrabbit, @gojira007, @sege-h, @pc-the-unicorn-reblogs, and every single one of you for sharing my posts and giving your insight on the series and my reviews! I’m often too shy to chat and dm but I hope this post clearly express my appreciation for yall. And big props to you, @robotnik-mun, for sticking by me for damn near the entire series. You’ve always brought up points I missed, and added to topics I myself frequently had difficulty articulating. Peeps like you guys made the journey a lot sweeter, like a sort of community!
As for the future of me covering Archie Sonic specifically, like with the comics in my heart, they’re never truly leaving. I’m still gonna post about them here and there, reblog awesome art of its characters, and of course talk about the creative team’s other stuff, be it Ken Penders’ aimless spiritual successors or Ian Flynn and IDW Publishing stuff! Come rain or shine, this blog will always exist, so yall ain’t gonna be free from me gushing about the blue hedgehog anytime soon!
Not at the moment though. Now I rest. xD

Until the next time I post!

OC Links
*Note: A few characters’ appearances/voices have changed, so make sure to check out the tags on the blog. OCs are tagged with “; (name)”— for example, my character Myarel is tagged with “; myarel” (no quotations).*
Canon Muses
*Note: Many of these muses aren’t listed on my muse page due to being unable to update said page from my phone. Muse tags vary. Some are tagged with fancy tags but I may switch between those and regular tags. They’re listed here in alphabetical order by fandom.*
**Edit: I’ve also marked which fandoms/muses are most active. Very active fandoms will be bolded, semi-active italic, and dormant/needing some time before interaction are regular text. I’ll also put an asterisk after new muses/muses I haven’t played yet. I beg that if a fandom isn’t bolded or italicized that you discuss it with me before sending something in or making a starter— I have a lot of muses and it takes time to get into the swing of new ones when I’m not in the right mindset!**

Info About The Writer
Hi! I’m Alistair— you can call me that, or you can use my username for pretty much everywhere else, TheetyPie/Theety. I don’t mind either way.
I’m a trans guy, I use he/they pronouns. I’m panromantic/asexual, and I’m 27 years old.
I have 3 cats, they’re my babies. I also (as you can tell from above) have a lot of OCs, and the number is still growing. I want to turn my ideas into a bigger creation someday, still not sure exactly where I want to go with it.
I do more than write. I do art, I like video games, music, and just collecting stuff. Current obsessions are Monster High, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, makeup, crystals, and jewelry.
Rules
The most important: I do not RP smut. In the past I’ve used the fade-to-black method, but I’m not entirely comfortable with that with most of my muses.
In the same vein, DO NOT FORCE SHIPS. I love ships as much as the next guy, but I would prefer to discuss it first, or for us to agree on it. It’s cool if your muse has a crush, totally fine— mine get crushes all the time! But make sure if you want to ship, we discuss it first.
In a similar vein to that one as well, no god-modding/powerplaying. If your character is strong, an immortal being, or whatever, cool! I have some of those too. But there should always be a limit. Don’t say your character is moving mine unless we’ve talked about that. Attempt to move them. Usually I follow along as long as boundaries aren’t pushed.
Don’t kill or seriously injure my muse without permission. Fights happen, of course, but again: discussion. I’m up for threads where my canon muses are injured or killed, but not where it happens to my OCs, unless we’re getting into a backstory and another OC that’s already deceased dies. Non-serious injuries are alright to come out of nowhere with, but if it’s a first meeting, I’d prefer to plot it out.
I’m semi-selective. I’m kind of particular about who I follow and who I thread with. I prefer us to be mutuals to thread, but you don’t have to be mutuals to send me things.
I’m very bad at keeping up with people. If you message me and I don’t respond, it’s usually bc I’m shy, I forgot, or I’m busy with work. It’s not you, I promise. Usually I don’t message first bc I’m nervous.
Back to shipping: I’m also multiship. Usually my ships are in different universes, unless discussed with all parties beforehand. The exception is a few of my OCs that are partnered together— ask about their availability. I love random ships, just talk to me about them!
I love duplicates of my muses. Whether it’s “x meets self” or I find someone I share a muse with, I love RPing with just about everyone. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if we have a muse in common!
One of my other most important statements, not really considered a rule, but it’s still important: if you want to know something about any muse, canon or OC, please tell me— ask or message me! I haven’t been able to write down a lot of info about any of them because I’m on mobile, but I will infodump for you if you need/want to know something. I love talking about my children, they’re precious to me.
If you send something in or make something for me when we haven’t even spoken, I might not feel comfortable responding. I’m very shy and nervous about not having any discussion beforehand. 😭
If there’s anything I left out or you need to know, just ask!

TRIGGER WARNING: MENTIONS OF SUICIDE
So I wanted to talk about Vaggie for a bit, mainly the theories I have with her. For starters, I think it’s no surprise that I believe she committed suicide at one point in her life.
Tumblr media
(Art Credit To Vivziepop)
Vaggie seems like a character that isn’t entirely bad or evil, at least from what we’ve seen in the pilot. She’s kind, caring, and the only person who seems to be down to earth and has a more human mindset compared to the crazy world of Hell and it’s characters surrounding her. When it comes to Vivziepop’s concept art and character sketches of her, Vaggie would always seem like a miserable person, most of the time frowning and looking really upset, not to mention art pieces similar to this, with eyes watching her and her looking upset, bothered or distraught. Throughout the years, she seems like a very angsty character despite how she is now, she seems depressed, especially with the whole “goth” thing Viv has going for her, and I have the feeling Hazbin Hotel will take the direction of the cause of her death being suicide. (That and Viv lacks subtly, the print here showcases a bunch of nooses hanging over her.)
I have a theory that maybe she ended up killing someone in a fit of rage, or maybe the reason she’s in hell is simply BECAUSE of her suicide, (Because in Christianity I think that’s a sin) but if that’s the case, I sincerely hope Viv handles this issue in a serious and compelling way. Suicide is a VERY difficult issue to tackle, and I hope the show succeeds in dealing with it, though I have my doubts. I just want Vaggie to be treated better, she seems like a character who has a lot going on for her, so let’s hope she gets the spotlight when the time is right. Moving along though, I of course wanted to talk about the whole eye situation Vaggie has going on. For those who don’t know, Viv would usually always draw these eyes on Vaggie, probably for aesthetic purposes, but it is unknown why she did it. I sort of have a theory when it comes to this, but it also regards two OTHER theories I’ve seen most of the fandom have. Regarding the whole X aesthetic Vaggie has, a lot of fans have had theories that she used to be an exterminator, or a fallen Angel since she’s so kind, or even both. If you want to know MY take on that, I honestly agree, it does feel like Vaggie has some sort of connection with the Angels since they themselves are associated with X’s, but maybe that’s because it’s just another one of Viv’s obsessions. I don’t want to be the one who thinks too deeply of certain aesthetics Viv creates for her characters, because half of the time it doesn’t mean much, but I do think Vaggie being a fallen Angel or exterminator COULD DEFINITELY be a possibility.
Now I say all of this because I have one last theory of my own. Now this is ONLY if the whole “Vaggie is actually an exterminator” theory turns out to be true, but here it is. With the whole eye thing Vaggie has going on for her, I have the theory that those eyes are the eyes that belonged to all the souls that she has killed in the past, and the reason she keeps seeing them constantly is because she’s guilty, and going crazy of if they’re really there, or she’s hallucinating them. I feel like that would be a cool and interesting take on her character, especially if it turns out she used to be a ruthless killer compared to who she is now. It also sort of corresponds to an Alastor theory, where all the souls HE’S killed are the ones laughing in his microphone. It could be a similarity both characters have, and a potential way to how they could understand one another in the future. I see Vaggie going “How are you not guilty” or “how can you take knowing you killed people in the past so well” and despite Alastor not liking her, perhaps he could help her with that issue, and the two can sort of be on better terms with one another from then. Not friends, but more understanding of the two. Then again, these theories are huge stretches, and this will sound petty, but I don’t think Viv is honestly that creative to come up with something like that, but we’ll see.
While I do think the suicide theory for Vaggie will be true, I certainly do hope her character and backstory is written in a interesting way despite it seeming sort of predictable (same for most of the other sinner characters honestly.) But yeah, that’s kinda what I wanted to share. If it turns out Vaggie did kill herself, here’s hoping that the issue is dealt with in a compelling way. This will sound surprising, but Vaggie is a character I’m interested in. Next to Alastor, she’s the most mysterious, and I’m curious to know what the show will do with her. Let’s also hope the writers treat her with RESPECT, unlike Viv who sees her as a punching bag with her “Lol fiery Latina gal go brrr” attitude. You feel bad for Vaggie because she’s one of the more human characters, and I will say this, she IS pretty I have to admit, just add some moth features and maybe give her some blues or purples, but anyway, I’d like to know y’all’s thoughts on Vaggie, and what theories with her you have! Feel free to share! 💜

Things my history professor has said in the past few weeks that I can imagine Hob Gadling saying in lectures:
(Context: we’re studying Humanism, Renaissance politics, Protestant Reformation ans Catholic Reform, and Wars of Religion, focusing (for now) on the Italian Renaissance)
“Word of advice: don’t kidnap the Pope. In fact, don’t kidnap and beat up any 70 year olds.”
“It’s really hard to bring wealth into the city you’re fighting over if you keep fighting over it.”
“Big Dog don’t fuck around.” (in reference to Mastino II della Scala, the ruler of Verona)
“Where are wars fought in the pre-modern world? In fields. Where does the majority of Padua’s wealth come from? Agriculture. In fields.” And then, in the next lecture: “where are wars fought again? Oh yeah, FIELDS. STOP FIGHTING IN MY FUCKING FIELDS! THATS HOW YOU GET FAMINES!” (referencing the Great Famine from 1315-1320 and the 100 Years War that started in 1337 that weakened the immune systems of all of Europe right before the arrival of the Black Plague)
“Everything was going to hell and somehow it got worse.” (talking about the arrival of the Black Plague)
“Oh, it’s the tomb of King Henry the third, he’s in the parking lot of an Aldi.” (commenting on the fact that historical figures are often found in the most mundane of places in Europe, especially Great Britain)
“What’s the Pope doing? He’s in France, he’s gotten in bed with the French King.” (summing up the Avignon Papacy rather well)
“Well, the plague might get me tomorrow, let’s go on a bender.” (summing up the mindset of Middle Ages peasants when faced with the Black Plague… coincidentally, also the mindset of many Americans during the first wave of Covid)
“In Florence, you have a lot of people running around praying who are worried about death, they’re just constantly worried about their souls, and then there are some who are just fuckin’ lit from 7am until bedtime, they just get up and party and like, they’re just getting drunk and having sex because they’re like ‘whatever!’” (see previous bullet point)
“Sometimes, life gets worse.” (discussion how, once the Black Plague receded, life got, somehow, worse for a lot of peasants)
“It’s fucking creepy, but it’s a work of art.” (on Transi Tombs… look them up, they’re cool as shit for real)
“Happy Wednesday. Halfway through the week. A moment ago, I was like ‘how the fuck is it only Wednesday?’” (Same professor, same)
“The Papacy needs to exert power and the most ineffective way to do that is to pray on it… Praying is not going to defeat the Visconti.” (Renaissance Italian Popes knew what modern white American republicans don’t: praying doesn’t do shit)
“It’s easy to look backward and say ‘well the French figured it out and built France, the fuck was wrong with the Italians?’” (in reference to Italy remaining divided into different states and having no sense of belonging to one nation for much of history)
“The Papacy also had a legitimacy crisis after the Avignon Papacy and the Great Western Schism—they needed to prove that they were not the corrupt, worldly, ineffective office that they had become. Unfortunately, the only way to do that was to become corrupt, worldly, and ineffective, but that’s neither here nor there.”
“Things will change in 1494 when, to defeat the Neapolitans, the Milanese decide to invite the French in. And then everything will go to shit.”
“If anyone’s going to law school… it sucks, but we need lawyers. Not really, [we could] do with less of them, actually.”
“Open-faced sandwiches are not sandwiches, right? It’s bread with some shit on it.” (said, apropos of nothing, in the middle of a discussion about the distinction between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance and where the divide is drawn between them) (it’s roughly the 15th-century btw)
“Utopia means ‘no place’… that’s the joke.”
“Ficino was prolific. He wrote so much, like if you have an inferiority complex about your writing, do not ever read anything of Ficino because it’ll just make it worse.”
“Yeah, maybe telling princes that it’s better to be feared than loved and that it’s okay to, you know, cut your rival in half and leave him in a public square is probably not the Christian thing to do.”
He also ends every lecture with some variation of “on that note, get the hell out of my classroom. Go away! Enjoy the rest of your day, stay out of trouble and if you don’t stay out of trouble, don’t get caught. You didn’t hear that from me.”

untitled project devlog 8: themes, and pain
At first, when I said I wanted to discuss the themes of my project, I thought that maybe there would be some convenient article, book or philosophy deep dive I could reference, which does not seem to be much the case, seeing as how my approach to themes is very personal. so… here’s some thoughts.
Tumblr media
In case it’s not abundantly obvious by now, the story features a band and music quite prominently. One of my original elevator pitches for the comic was “think metalocalypse meets bandslam, but with the scope of Ernest et Celestine and the presentation of a black and white Wes Anderson film” which is the vaguest shit ever and I’ll eventually get my head out of my ass long enough to stop worrying about spoiling the story. My point is: the act of being creative is at the forefront of the story. What drives it forward is something I won’t mention in this series, but a lot of ideas emerge when you decide to write something as personal as making art. Things like purpose, belonging, self worth, expression, communication, validation are things that every artist or musician deals with quite regularly and no story about creativity would be complete without them.
The first post ever made to this blog was a webcomic name fancomic that, looking back, isn’t bad but remembering the reason why I made it is what makes me cringe. I wanted attention. When I started making art I expected to be famous in 100 days. literally, I wish I was exaggerating.
Tumblr media
In every artist’s journey with art, they reach the point where they realize that the only things really worth pursuing are the things they’re passionate about. Sometimes this is drawing commissions, other times people do commissions to keep themselves alive. A lot of times, the art people are passionate about barely gets any attention at all. It's a fact that a lot of creatives secretly know that people who get successful doing something they love are very lucky.
youtube
It takes maturity to be happy for people and proud of their hard work as opposed to being an envious child but that doesn’t mean we don’t secretly want success as well. If I could have enough dedicated readers to make my comics for a living but never be famous I’d do that in a heartbeat. Every big shiny thing is destined to accumulate dust, I don’t want to be a big shiny thing, I want to be a reliable hill you can trust to be there year after year. It took me a while to get to the mindset I work with today. 6 years might not feel like a lot when you consider the insane careers some artists had, but as far as people go 6 years is a lot. I graduated, finished a book, worked on 2 short film productions that have both won awards (one of which for my sound design!!), moved house, freelanced, started a stable job, been to therapy, gotten an operation, nearly lost people, been through an explosion, an economic collapse; and I think that’s just the stuff I’m remembering off the top of my head.
Finding documentation and sources about this kind of stuff is pretty difficult because this is not what gets publicized about media. However, if you pay enough attention some similarities start to appear.
Tumblr media
The manga Berserk is pretty famous for its elaborate artwork and story. It doesn’t really need an intro and I’ve been told I need to read it which I plan on, but that’s not the point right now. As you may know, Kentaro Miura, the author and illustrator of the manga passed away in 2021. For fans of the series, while very tragic, this wasn’t all that surprising. The dude doesn’t fill in black. he crosshatches everything. An admirable feat, which makes you thankful that a friend of his, Kouji Mori, decided to finish making the manga after he passed away.
Many other manga share this. Vagabond by Takehiko Inoue, has been known to frequently go on hiatus. So has Hunter x Hunter by Yoshihiro Togashi. A lot of times, an artist’s undying faith to their work is because of how passionate they are about it, the people involved in making it or even the audience. I forget the exact interview this is from, but Linkin park has gone on record for saying that sometimes they need to consider the audience. you see them always excited to talk about how experimental their music is, which is great, but when you know someone’s on the receiving end of what you’re making, it’s bound to make you think a bit differently.
This video of George RR Martin and Stephen King chatting kind of outlines the different approaches they have to writing. One of the most iconic quotes is “how do you write so fast?” Spoken by Martin. Now I’m not here to talk about Game of Thrones, trust me I couldn't care less but it does bring up one point worth talking about which is inspiration, discipline and what that has to do about your malleability as an artist.
youtube
This is the trailer for H.E.R.A., one of the short movies I worked on as a sound designer and general handyman. It was written and animated by my friend Alaa Fleifel with the help of some wonderful fellow artists and animators for some of the scenes. Alaa and his studio Phat Chik are an example of what I’m talking about.
Tumblr media
pictured: Alaa.
When I talk about being malleable, I don’t mean that in the X-men mystique “I chameleon my way around the world” school of art though that can work in some cases, sure. What I refer to is one’s ability to keep making their art. During the production of H.E.R.A., there were at many points obstacles that would have shot down most movie productions. The sound designer had to prioritize staying alive so he had to unfortunately quit the project midway. Alaa had to juggle a fulltime job, commissions and a rapidly decaying economic system that meant most clients didn’t want to pay well anymore so he had to outsource some of the background art and scenes to friends and animators that he paid out of pocket. The production timeline lasted a year and 8 months, most of that time was spent patching up the team in the background. Working on H.E.R.A. taught me that there is no project in existence that is the result of one human being. Everyone has at least one person to give them advice, someone who goes “hey, I know a guy” and very often that is not just one person. When band line ups change, it’s sometimes treated with an air of disregard.
“oh, it’s just the drummer”
“it’s the rhythm guitarist, their job is pretty easy anyway”
Had Alaa waited around for inspiration or permission to make his film, it would have never happened. Sure, a lot of why we get to watch the absurdist sci-fi acid trip that is H.E.R.A. is due to some luck and connections, but a lot of it is also due to a rejection of the notion that inspiration is what primarily fuels creativity.
So what does that say about the story? usually I find it helpful to present my themes in the form of questions, so here’s what i’ve been able to come up with:
Who does art/music belong to?
How much of the soul of art and music gets lost in translation?
How do you balance making stuff for yourself and an audience once you have one?
How much does inspiration really matter?
I need to be honest with you about something.
I’ve been kind of avoiding talking about the more… personal themes at play here.
it’s not because I don’t know what they are, really. They just come from a place of deep discomfort and humiliation for me. I’ve obviously become a much different human being over the course of my 27 years on the rapidly traveling rock in space but it’s never not weird for me remembering the dumb things I did or said growing up or while I was finding my footing as a writer. There are entire projects and dozens of pages of things that I threw out the window before I felt confident enough in something to be able to share it. there’s a lot of fucking up you do while growing up and not surprisingly, I feel more comfortable seeing my weird feelings in fiction than I do laid out in bullet points in a devlog. So I promise you this:
the people in the story are going to be human. Faults, warts and all. The only thing I ask of you is to know that while those warts are real, they are not mine anymore. Every day that passes, I grow a little bit more, and maybe at some point I’ll grow tall enough that the light trickling through the trees will feel safe enough to fly.
Merry Christmas, and may every year bring a little bit more sun.
Devlog updates on tuesdays.

Phantom Airship - So I Raced Through The Sky: Chapter 5
Location: Giant Island Characters: Tsumugi, Leo, Hiiro & Tatsumi
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Leo: “Are you ready, traveller!? I’ve gathered the tribe of giants here!”
Tatsumi: Thank you. I cannot move so that was very helpful.
Still, this is a rather odd scene…
To think I’d be singing while surrounded by people much larger than myself – It feels as if I’ve turned into a little bird about to be eaten.
Leo: “You scared?”
Tatsumi: No. I don’t fear anything.
There were nights where I was worried that my old injury would get in the way of “ALKALOID’s” activities.
But I’ve already overcome the stage to be pessimistic and sentimental.
So if anything, I’d like to return the blow to these giants who oppress others they’ve deemed to be physically inferior.
Leo: “Wahaha! You’re surprisingly pretty belligerent, huh~”
Tatsumi: Hehe. These are emotions a clergyman must not have, so I’m rather ashamed.
But what is once broken can never be the same – I shall make up for my handicap with my mental strength and skills
Otherwise, I’d be sorry towards my “ALKALOID” members, co-workers and fans.
I shall sing wholeheartedly with the intent of fighting the giants head-on.
Leo: “Ohh, that’s the spirit! Art is a match between fighters of different sports! Don’t mind the difference in size!”
Tatsumi: ♪~♪~
(...Hehe. I was surprised to find my feet locked together when I woke up, but it oddly spurred me on.)
(If this is just a singing trial, then it’s far too simple.)
(If it was a dance trial, then I’m not used to this VR space. I would be wary of the pain while dancing.)
(But seeing as this trial has taken that into consideration, it seems they’re trying to question my mindset and cheer me on.)
♪ ♪ ♪
…Thank you for listening.
Leo: “Haha, I knew you were the right one for this! Your voice was amazing!”
“How was my art!? You have no choice but to acknowledge my wonderful song, right?”
“...Hehe, hahahahaha! Right~? You’re touched, right?”
“Yaay, they finally acknowledged it! Thanks, traveller. It’s all thanks to you~!”
Tatsumi: It’s all thanks to the music. A song of that standard would be acknowledged sooner or later.
Leo: “Thanks for saying that. That was a song worth composing ♪”
“Right. I’ve got the score written on these stone slates – take one!”
“Now that I’ve shown my songs before my family, I have a feeling my art will spread even more!”
Tatsumi: Ohh. This is what a real ‘treasure’ looks like… It’s giving off quite a bright brilliance.
Tsumugi: “Yes. That is indeed the ‘treasure’ from ‘Giant Island’. Congratulations on clearing your task ♪”
Tatsumi: I see. A stone slate from “Giant Island”. It’s actually rather light in my hand.
By the way, Leo-san… or rather, Mr Giant. I’m thankful for the music score, but could you undo the shackles on my feet?
I’m at my limit, you see.
Leo: “Ohh, I was so happy I almost forgot about that~”
“And… there ♪ Now you’re back to normal. Don’t get caught again, okay~?”
Tatsumi: Ahaha. Now that you mention it, it made me feel as if I had turned into a wild animal.
But that’s the trial on “Giant Island” cleared.
Tsumugi: “And someone is here to pick you up.”
Hiiro: Heeey! Can you see me, Tatsumi-senpai?
Tatsumi: That’s… I can see Hiiro-san over there.
Tsumugi: “Yes. He had finished his trial on ‘Miniature Island’ and came here early using the airship.”
“Let’s head to the next island and gather up the rest of the members, shall we?”
Tatsumi: Yes. We shouldn’t stay in one place for too long, so that would be perfect.
Hiiro-san, you must have worked very hard. What sort of trial did you undergo?
Hiiro: Hehe, I participated in an annual festival on “Miniature Island”.
I had to dance carefully in order to not step and break the miniature town.
Now that my position has changed from when I first laid eyes on idols, it made me recall the feelings I had when I was a beginner.
Tatsumi: I see. I had a feeling that’s the sort of trial it would be.
Hiiro: ? Were our trials similar in some way?
Tatsumi: Yes. I think the trial served as an impetus for you to get back on your feet after being burnt out from “SS”.
And my trial was something similar. I was made to encourage myself in a bad situation – it was as if it was questioning my mindset.
Which leads me to think that the tornado appeared in order to split us up.
It gave us a chance to think on our own and we can come up with our answers through the trials. It was almost like therapy.
Hiiro: Now that you mention it, that does make a lot of sense.
Tatsumi: In a game world, it would be simple to make a tornado appear and “Switch” split us up on purpose so we could take on those trials.
Hiiro: But that means Mayoi-senpai and Aira are probably having a hard time.
Tatsumi: Yes, I think so too. They both don’t have much self-confidence, after all. Being modest is a virtue but having too much modesty can also be a bad thing.
If it’s also a trial that questions the mind, then it might be wearing them out even more mentally than we anticipated.
Let’s head to the next island while praying for their success.
Hiiro: Indeed. Amen to that, Tatsumi-senpai.

Jojolands - First Impressions
That’s what we’re doing here. I know I haven’t really delved into Jojo’s much before, but I know several of my mutuals are big into it and I am at least a fan of this bizarre multi-generational adventure. Still need to finish Part 8 but honestly...I’ll probably just wait for the anime. It’s too confusing for me to properly binge the manga. I’ll keep any actual spoilers under the cut, but first...
I’m sold. This intro chapter hooked me more than Stone Ocean. I’ve never really been into JJBA for the plot, I like what my boyfriend said when I got him to watch the dub. “This is one where you’re just here to enjoy the experience.” If I put it in art terms, something like One Piece is a very traditional story. It’s not exactly breaking a lot of new territory, more perfecting an established style. Jojo’s? That’s abstract art. Sure there’s an overarching story to each part and how they tie together, but you’re mostly just enjoying the vibe. And oh my god do I love everything about this vibe in Part 9. First and foremost though...
Tumblr media
My newest beloved blorbo Dragona. Just gonna say this now and get it out of the way; it’s as worth getting hung up on pronouns as it is that clip of Izo referring to Kiku as his “brother.” Differing norms are going to make this finicky, especially when we’re talking about a Japanese author writing about Hawaii as a setting through the viewpoint of a 15yo younger brother. Little different, but I live in an area with a lot of Marshall Islanders. You sorta get used to it. We could ultimately find out Dragona is as much a “woman at heart” as someone like Kiku and referring to him as such still makes sense in context. Especially with an older Japanese author and there still very much being a mindset of like, not using “transgender” to refer to anyone except someone who has fully transitioned and treating it like a man becoming a woman there. Make sense?
All that to say, use your eyes and common sense over getting hung up on specific words. I’ll probably casually use she/her most of the time because it’s hard not to. Everything I see so far suggests Dragona also acts pretty girly and hell...I’ve known 18yo trans folk existing in a space like this while they sort themselves out. We’re clearly going for something in that bubble, I’m sure Dragona will have more room to clarify...it’s Jojo’s, just roll with it. Because by all accounts we’re looking at the sane, reasonable one in the group. And that’s cool, I’m definitely keeping an eye on this pair from the perspective of wondering if maybe, just maybe Araki was a little influenced by a certain pair of samurai “brothers” who like to play with similar territory. If nothing else, our introduction does show, not tell that absent being informed most people are going to read Dragona as female. Curious about those “cosmetic injections” as well.
Tumblr media
With that out of the way, I adore our introduction to these new Joestars. Sets the time, locale, everything so well. They’re rocking out to Dua Lipa, hassled by dickhead cops, name dropping covid, cops one up the racism with transphobia. Then our best bros fuck em up. Awesome. These parts since Stone Ocean all track with an AU version of a previous part, and I love that we don’t waste time showing off our new cast as a twist on Passione from Vento Aureo. Though this time we aren’t screwing around with noble intentions. This is all about getting filthy rich and I’m here for it. Especially with my second love from this first chapter.
Tumblr media
This bitch. Who is, without a doubt, 100% that bitch. If she has a Stand please let it be Lizzo inspired. Speaking of Stands, Jodio’s November Rain is cool looking and I like the reference...but of course Dragona is the better one with a nod to the absolutely legendary slow jam Smooth Operator. Given the similarities I love the jokes about “Sex Reassignment Pistols” Fun fact, 80s wrestler and guy who looks like he walked straight out of a porno “Ravishing” Rick Rude would sometimes use that song as entrance music. Does it sound like fight music? Nah, but he made it werk. Where the hell was I?
Right, let’s steal this diamond! Good hook, I’m invested and we have the gang together. Although I know this series well enough to know we’ll probably find a better motivation along the way (please be nice to momma and Beach Boy’s reference Barbra Ann Araki, she’s so loving) for now I love focusing on a gang of scrunkly criminals who make no bones about it. Jodio’s going to school solely to sell drugs, Dragona and Boss Bitch Meryl seem to have a lovely bond. Like I said, a part hasn’t hooked me this well since introducing Jolyene ashamed to have been caught paddlin’ the pink canoe. Part where I just died though...
Tumblr media
Two words were all I needed to see to know Araki did his research on the islands. Spam Onigiri. It makes sense if you know the history, soldiers in WW2 brought Spam with them to a lot of these islands because it’s easy meat to ship and stockpile. It became popular trading fodder with locals, they still very much consume a lot to this day. Because it’s also something you don’t have to worry about taking a while to ship. And there are some dope Polynesian recipes built around using it these days. I’ve just personally always found that a fun quirk from the Marshall Islanders I know and past experience with people from Hawaii, Guam, etc. Will never forget a lab partner from Guam in college, said something about it and he was just gobsmacked. Had been going his whole time here wondering why it was so hard to find certain flavors on the mainland.
Anyways, that was a lot of disjointed rambling to say I’m very excited about Part 9. Disjointed rambling is on theme though because it’s Jojos. Nothing bad is allowed to happen to Dragona or Barbara Ann. Paco and the weird guy? Meh. Jodio’s great because he’s a scruffy no-goodnik and proud of it.

Hey, about your imposter syndrome post.
As I see it, it really doesn’t matter how bad you think you are on fandom spaces, there are no consequences for being a good or bad fic writer. Just do your thing and best case scenario people will like what you wrote, worst case, people will not. Literally doesn’t matter at all, people (including you) are just having fun, if it’s not fun anymore, and it’s causing you stress, maybe looking into other hobbies can be a healthy alternative, but there is no reason why it should not be fun.
Save the imposter syndrome to your workplace or college where it can be weaponized by your mediocre male peers as the capitalist God intended lmao
hey anon!
i absolutely agree with you! fandom is something that should absolutely be fun! writing fanfiction is something that, if it’s a hobby you partake in, should be fun! i’m well aware that in the scheme of things that this is all just for fun, that fandom is for fun and fanfic isn’t all that serious. and as i said in the tags of my original post- fandom is fun for me. i get great enjoyment from blogging about my silly little shows and talking about the characters i love. but sometimes, and i think some fellow creators here will agree with me, as much as you love and enjoy doing something, putting things out there for others to see can make you feel a little anxious. can make you feel like an imposter when you see so many great works of art and fic out there- or when you see big fandom discussions and discourse that aren’t all that fun. i don’t think that means i should quit, or stop or find a new hobby- and that’s on me if my original post i made it sound that bad, like i haven’t been feeling awesome but, as i said, im still enjoying fandom. because i do agree that sometimes taking a break from fandom is for the best. it’s all for fun and yes, untimely fandom and fanfic is something you should do for yourself first.
my biggest issue is that i let my anxiety and insecurities get the best of me sometimes. even with things that are just for fun, because writing is something i care about and i get in my head. it’s my favourite hobby and sometimes when you care about something, no matter if there are any consequences or not for writing anything good like with fanfiction as you said, you’ll get nervous or anxious, because you’re still sharing something you made. worked on and put time into. and it’s easy to sometimes compare yourself to others, even in a more easy-going, fandom space, and feel a bit down on yourself. we are our own worst critics sometimes.
but thank you anon really, i didn’t mean to go off on a rant because i really do agree with you- i do. it’s good sometimes to remind ourselves to not take ourselves so seriously, especially with fandom when you can get caught up in things so easily, but it’s also a mindset that you have to grow into. work at. to just chuck your anxiety and insecurities out the door, even when logically you know they’re silly, but sometimes it’s not that easy. and that’s just brains for you. i wish i could just say fuck it like you suggested, and i hope one day i will. for now, i will, as i said, work on it and just try to remind myself to take it easy and chill.
and honestly? id rather my imposter syndrome be towards my writing ability and fics, cause ill be damned if i ever let some mediocre man make me feel that way lol

Man, I know you shouldn’t do this. But I was staring with increasing bitterness at the kudos/hits on Chrysalis and sinking further and further into the whole “what even is the point” mindset I’m so prone to. Probably this was triggered by having come to expect a handful of kudos with each new chapter and this time I didn’t get… any.
I think Bri is probably the only person who knows how personal this fic is to me and how much of myself I’ve poured into it. And I don’t really want to divulge what that means to everyone - maybe one day - but just rest assured this fic isn’t just the manifestation of an irrational love of a video game character (which it is, of course) but it’s… somewhat healing for me. And a gift to myself. And it took a lot, and I mean A LOT, for me to even put it out there.
I’m not saying everyone needs to shower me with praise and affection at all times, or that I think I’m uniquely incredible at what I do, or that I need validation to keep going - I am much more motivated by spite anyway lol. And I for sure don’t want to minimize the folks who have been devotedly commenting on every chapter, have texted me outside of here/AO3 to talk about it, have made FAN ART (which is crazy!!!!), have reblogged every chapter and sent me asks. I appreciate it so so so much and it means more to me than I could ever verbalize.
But like, damn. Sometimes the sadness has hands and sometimes it’s the absence of folks you thought would be there that’s all you can see, y’know?
And then I decided to look at the other Heisenberg/OC fics, and the ones that are purely platonic, and basically anything that isn’t 2nd person w/smut or part of a popular canon x canon ship. I looked at ones that came out right around the game’s release, ones that came out last week.
And like, damn. Chrysalis has a staggering amount of engagement in comparison, especially when you consider I published it two years late. I didn’t have an AO3 account at all until fucking February 2023. And that makes me feel sort of good, but now I’m just mad again lmao. You should not have to jump into things at peak popularity or have an established following or include popular pairings/tropes to have your work get noticed. I mean, logically, I know this is just how media and art works to an extent - and I’m not saying people who do write/create in the popular fandoms for popular ships are doing something wrong - but it really shows how unwilling folks are to step outside their comfort zones and read things that they think they’re not interested in or won’t like.
There are platonic, x oc, rarepair etc fics that are so stunningly beautiful that it feels criminal for them to only have a handful of commenters and kudos. And honestly the people writing these are doing so with an insane amount of passion because you HAVE to in order to keep finding the strength to publish that next chapter when you know you’re explicitly going against what people insist they want. Again, this extends to more traditional art forms too - how many fucking brilliant books and paintings are out there gathering dust because the creator didn’t have the right connections or they didn’t make something that had mass appeal?
I always try to do the “what advice would I give to someone in my position” exercise with stuff like this. And of course I would reference the reality that if you have ONE person who is cheering you on, it’s a whole complex person you’ve made happy and that’s a miracle in and of itself. And some folks don’t WANT to be noticed - they are much happier with small circles and good for them! But also - I don’t think people are wrong when they start feeling crummy from seeing their work get steamrolled or comparatively ignored.
Idk. Idk where I’m going with this except to say I really wish people would expand their fic libraries (and their media/art consumption in general) to include more than just whatever the current hyperfixation is because it gives them serotonin. Take a chance on something different, within reason. (I know someone will try to respond with OH SO YOU’RE SAYING I SHOULD TRIGGER MYSELF or something like good god, no.)
There are some truly awesome popular works and creators out there. Please don’t interpret this as me being some bitter small platform blog ranting because I’m not being elected prom queen. All I’m doing is thinking out loud and sorting through my own spaghetti brain. I think I’m gonna spend part of this weekend sorting fics with the least engagement/popularity first and leaving some comments on them.
It’s a brave and beautiful thing to make and then share art, no matter the form it takes. People deserve to be reminded of that. Frequently.

Season 3′s Inability to Meet Reader Expectations
Having read all of The Breaker’s Season 3 thus far, I understand readers’ legitimate gripes with the pacing, artwork, and decision to switch protagonists midway through the story. What bothers me especially is that Jeon, the author, was seemingly oblivious to the obvious backlash that would ensue. Backlash is nothing new. I remember all the complaints that occurred with New Waves, but the writing team’s lack of understanding of their target audience is highly concerning.
Regardless of people’s nationality, all readers have the same expectations for comics: (1) proper storytelling, (2) acceptable art, and (3) a compelling main cast. You can read more in-depth about people’s expectations here.
I have a background in literature and teach literature for a living. Plus, I'm a published author. Because of my background, I'm more understanding, patient, and forgiving than the typical reader. I'm acutely understanding of editorial mandates, for example. What Jeon did though is highly unusual and ill-advised for writers, regardless of whether they happen to be newbies or veterans. Switching main characters - your point-of-view character - is fine. Switching protagonists - the character whom the plot revolves around - however, especially halfway through the story, is something else entirely. It's a major no-no. There are serious repercussions when you do so, and every medium I've seen that pulled a stunt like this ended up flopping. This is equivalent to finding porn with the hottest girl in it but all you see and hear is the guy.
I don't have a problem with introducing a new character as Season 3's deuteragonist. Furthermore, I think there's room involve 3 generations. The problem lies in the execution, and this is where Ha Jae falls flat. He simply doesn't hold any major plot importance on his own. He's Shioon 2.0. Same background. Same built. Same fighting stance. Same characterization. Same hype. Ad infinitum. The forced parallelism wreaks of ad hoc writing. Compare and contrast the following. Here's an example of proper writing:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ha Jae, on the other hand, is an example of improper writing. He severely damages the storyline about Shioon being a special person for whom the growth speed was phenomenal (a few months). To get this far he had to suffer a lot and had to have a remarkable mindset (win or die). Now a new, filler character arrives and starts doing some incredible s**t in just a few days.
As fans it forces us to wonder if all the story built years was not a lie at all, that what Shioon has is actually nothing special, he just took some drugs and voila he's op as hell.
It's not just aggravating, it's painful to read because it changes the universe and the uniqueness of characters, especially the main one that we learned to love.
Jeon could have done things very differently, such as introducing your typical hotblooded hero with a dream. Having a kid who is always in trouble and loves to fight would contrast quite differently from Shioon. (It'd work really well with Jinie too.) In addition, this development would allow Jeon to explore the other side of bullying, with this hypothetical deuteragonist serving as a mirror of a young GMR rather than being Shioon 2.0 with a fugly design. We already know what Shioon's training was like, but we never saw how GMR learned martial arts.
There are plenty of ways too on making the kid join the Murim:
They're an exchange student
They're a spy from the Illuminati (they're stated to exist around ch. 88 in NW)
They're being bullied by Murim-Ins
They're an untrained student whose master was killed by GMR/SUC
Had Jeon gone a route without regurgitating material like he did with Blue Boy, the new kid would be much more interesting because I truly believe that having another protagonist is not the problem, the problem is the sheer laziness of making him a copy of Shioon.
Part 3 was supposed to be about Illuminati shenaningans and the Shinmujengpe. That's what readers, specifically long-term readers, were anticipating with excitement, not the current story we're getting. Moving away from your core audience’s expectations is also why Eternal Force has flopped so bad thus far. The writing team (i.e., the editor, the author, the illustrator, etc.) quit caring about readers' hierarchical expectations: a good story, a compelling main cast, and acceptable artwork. Hopefully they listen to reader feedback, otherwise Eternal Force is going to flop internationally like how it flopped in Korea.
