Neteyam x Reader story

Sooo, I haven't written anything in genuine years. But after watching Avatar:TWOW I've become hyperfixated and have been scrolling and refreshing the Neteyam x Reader tag basically since the movie came out. As a consequence I've had this idea in the back of my mind that I thought was very sweet and cute (something we all need after that movie) so I decided to sit down and give it a go and see what comes out of my brain. So here it is. I haven't properly edited it and it's pretty much a 1000 words of word vomit and a bunch of time skips but it made me happy to write so I'm sharing it.

Oh, BTW SPOILERS!! but also I don't stick to the event's of the movie so idk I'm just putting it out there in case someone hasn't watched the trailer.

So the idea is our girl meets Neteyam informally for the first time when they're 9. She gets cornered in the jungle by a Palulukan and Neteyam helps her run away from it. She had always known who he is being the firstborn son of the Toruk Makto. She remembers her mom telling her about the big ceremony the Tribe had when he was first born. Everyone knew him.

- You shouldn't go into Palulukan territory without being careful - he says, looking a bit unsure about her now that there's no imminent danger.

- I didn't know I was in its territory

 - Don't wander off too far on your own then.

After this meeting, you get closer and become friends, which means as a consequence you occasionally hang out with the rest of Neteyam's family. However, as he gets older and his Dad starts preparing him to be a warrior and later on Lo'ak as well you don't have as much time to spend as you once did laughing and roaming around in the jungle exploring thick forests and shallow pools of water. It's not like you have nothing to do with your life, you do! You've been thinking of taking up lessons from the Tsahik, to see how you can use the spirit of Eywa and nature to help people who are hurting. It just so happens that the Tsahik is Neteyam's grandmother so you sometimes end up seeing him come back from a mission with his father and you share sweet smiles from across the camp.

When the tribe moves to the floating rocks, you are required by the Tsahik to help those injured from the journey and the ones getting used to the new terrain. So you're even more often in the same circles. As you're working one day about to go over to help Ninat with her sprained ankle, someone taps you on the shoulder

-You seem busy with work. - says Neteyam smiling sweetly at you

-Oh! Yes, I was just about to start. How's your training going?

You hadn't spoken in a while, just a quick wave or nod when crossing paths throughout the day. You hadn't noticed but he towers over you by a couple inches now. He nods towards his dad who's speaking with Neytiri at the edge of their tent.

-You know, just the usual responsibilities of carrying on the legacy. - His eyes gaze into you softly, like he's memorizing your face after not seeing it for long. He shakes it off and looks down - Have you got many tasks today?

-Not too much actually, just need to check up on Ninat and prepare some medicinal salves.

- I want to see you later – He looks back up into your eyes and smiles – Maybe we can go on one of our expeditions like before.

You chuckle – Sure, I'd love that.

With a final nod of approval, he stalks away to his parent's side.

When you meet later towards sunset he's waiting patiently with his Ikran by the vines connecting the Hallelujah Mountains to the Jungle below.

-We won't go too far out into the jungle so we have time to come back before sunrise. - He says as he connects his Queue with the Ikran and gazes at you expectantly – Hop on.

Can I trust that I'll come back alive from this flight? - you raise a skeptical eyebrow. He only went through his Iknimaya ritual not too long ago.

He reaches out a hand to help you up onto the animal – I don't think Eywa would forgive me if I wasted you on a simple flight.

You smile warmly into his shoulder as you hold tight onto him feeling the powerful animal shift under you as you fly out.

Roughly 10 years later

When he comes back from the Mitkayina islands. He's taller and broader and his hair is much longer pulled into a loose braid around his Queue. You have a sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach when you first see him. He's magnificent and commanding in his presence. The tribe has gathered all around to accept him and Jake back with a warm welcome. And even though you're hidden by your fellow Na'vi, his eyes immediately find you in the crowd and issue an eager and warm smile on his face.

As soon as he has settled the greetings with the current Olo'eyktan and the Tsahik, he finds you – walking to your sleeping pod. You would have gone to say hello and see him up close but, honestly, you were a bit intimidated. What you now knew was a childhood infatuation with him all those years ago still couldn't handle seeing him all of a sudden in all his... perfect glory. You were a little intimidated. But that doesn't stop him from reaching out for you. You see him jog over with a grin. He grabs you by the shoulders about to pull you into a hug but stops himself at the last moment. His eyes roam you over from head to toe and he looks up with glistening eyes -You've grown! - His tone sounds almost unbelieving

-That tends to happen as time passes, yes – you chuckle, hands coming up to hold onto his arms. His strong arms.

-I'm not too sure what I expected you to look like but you're... way beyond any expectation – He sounds so awe-struck as he's still taking you in, that you start to feel a little embarrassed.

-I can say the exact same thing – You say as you meet his gaze again. As you do his face softens and he brings you into his arms finally.

-I missed you, my friend.

Your hand caresses his hair gently – I missed you too.

You break apart and you decide to go for some late food with him abandoning your plans of sleep.

Months later, when they have their first kiss. It's a slow thing. He will say something dry-humoured in his soft voice and she'll forget to laugh too busy staring at him, realizing how in love she is. And has been all these years. And when he notices that she hasn't replied he'll look at her and know immediately. That she's realized, at last. And he'll come to hold her like she's the most precious thing in his world. He'll thread his fingers through her hair bringing her face close to his. Forehead pressed to hers, patiently waiting for her to join him in the reality he has been living. Where they have loved each other for a while, longed and missed unbelievably because of it, and are finally able to bask in it. The warm smiles and looks, the casual closeness that not being apart allows. The things he has been dreaming of. He looks at her lips and back at her eyes, pulling back slightly to give her some space. Maybe she's not entirely understanding his feelings, maybe she's too caught up in her own to recognize his signs, he thinks, ready to give her all the time- When she grabs his neck and drags him back to her. - Neteyam... – her eyes are glossy like she's about to cry. So he caresses her cheeks gently and finally presses their lips sweetly together. And he can not compare it to any other feeling he has ever experienced. It's not like loving her, that's easy and at the same time overwhelming. It has brought him to the point that he is ready to lay down his life and all of his family's expectations to travel back to the tribe just to see her. To be reunited. But this feeling, this kiss is like knowing, that he won't be alone in his love and he can give her his all, his soul. They stay there, lost in the sweetness of being together like never before until the sun has long set and the moon has long risen.

Gonna rant/ ramble obsess about Link Click

I watched the whole two seasons in two days and had to wait 5 minutes for the update for the last episode so i can't image the pain of those who had to wait 2 years for season 2. Hopefully didn't just jinx that

some quick notes that I think are hilarious:

Qian Jin for those who don't know chinese, his characters are 钱进: which means Money, enter (come in).

The anime name ShiGuang DaiLi Ren 【时光代理人】 translates to "time" "On the behalf of" and "person/ people", so the meaning is someone who (sees) manipulates/ alters time (for you).

These are just some random notes about SGDLR/ LC that I have, but most of the ranting will happen below, although it's heavy on the spoilers so I wouldn't read if you haven't seen everything yet.

The comment section on crunchyroll has most of the questions i had covered but some things i'm still thinking about:

1. Lu Guang can't fight (we see this in episode 6 + 7 when it's confirmed that Cheng Xiaoshi is the one in his body on the pier). Secondly, he's still recovering from his injury from season 1 finale, but he's out here landing punches and putting daddy Terminator Qiao Jin in choke holds etc etc in the finale. This means that it's likely that's actually Cheng Xiaoshi in Lu Guang's body (again) for that fight.

a. Which brings the question of Lu Guang Diving into the photos at the end of episode 12: did he acquire Cheng XiaoShi's powers (can powers be transferred as shown through Xixi (they call her Xiao Xi actually, but translation said no, just call her XiXi because "little xi" doesn't match syllables or sound as cute/ make as much sense)'s death and Qiao Ling. Maybe TianXi just showed QiaoLing the memories, but I kind of hope the power was transferred to QiaoLing since XiXi is dead (this is true because of the title of the final episode).

b. If this it is true that Lu Guang has Cheng XiaoShi's power to dive he'd be unstoppable with both powers as just him. My friend said as a joke "maybe his hair is white because he's secretly old af from all of the diving he's done." I think though that Lu Guang is probably younger than Cheng XiaoShi because it would be ironic he's technically more mature.

2. this (official art btw) drawing of Qian Jin, the shadow is of Liu Xiao, the eldest brother in the rich family (aka 'Hat Guy')— so perhaps the mastermind behind that family is actually the brother/ Liu Xiao/ Hat Guy, and not Qian Jin.

a. The brother, Liu Xiao, was also abroad for the past few years and I'm sure that has an important part to play— Im curious what that means for the next season. I have no ideas about it, but I'm intrigued.

Y'know, i kinda have to write the final chapter of my story mundane believers but i've also had the ideas for these OCs in my head for a while now and i can't focus on anything other than them so i just decided to draw designs for them so that i can get 'em out of my head. (EXPLANATIONS OF THESE CHARACTERS + SOME OTHER STUFF UNDER THE CUT)

The frankenstein girl is named "alive" (any pronouns, she doesn't care about gender). She's mixed between 5 different races and doesn't talk much, she's also vewy scawwy but is also very misunderstood. I haven't really developed her much yet lol (also her color palette was, of course, inspired by old black and white horror movies as well as frankie stein from monster high, specifically how they appear in the "reel drama" collector's line)

The girl in overalls is named carrie, she's quite literally a carrot that decided to be human one day and she's desperately trying to fit in with the other humans. Also i imagine she doesn't really now what a name is and didn't actually have one until someone asked and she just said whatever sounded like a human name (kinda like that one headcanon people have about shrek) oh yeah and she has a pet bunny named rabby who's constantly trying to eat her but she doesn't realize it....btw carrie is also an intersex demigirl

Lastly, the girl with blue hair is named makeighlyn. She is a parody of those really weird flash games aimed at girls and i got the idea for her when i watched the youtuber li speaks' video about avata star sue. Basically the gist of what makeighlyn is about is she's basically an exorcist/demon slayer who's generally really sweet most of the time but is pretty much doomguy levels of sadistic when it comes to her job, she ABSOLUTELY HATES demons and wants nothing more than to see them suffer! Oh yeah and also she's pretty fucking two-faced and i consider her theme song to be scary world by night club

Some other inspirations for makeighlyn are mikan tsumiki from danganronpa, the 3 mascots of GirlsGoGames, the artist SleepyCore's OC mew, the artist jo_sipu's OC balvenie and the youtuber caitlyn reilly's "the girl who bullied you in high school" skits (this one's more obvious considering makeighlyn was named after the title character's daughter)

Oh yeah and quick warning: jo_sipu is a GORE artist and quite a few of her animations deal with stuff such as toxic relationships and drug use so if you want to check her out, please do so with caution ⚠️

sai user again! thanks so much for the response! i always think about how being mostly turtle affects their day to day life and their fighting. there are definitely scenes in the show where i’m screaming USE YOUR SHELL!! but i know from a writing standpoint if they used their shells it would defeat the drama meant to be taken place. i DO think it would be funny if they sometimes just forget that they can use their shells, but this isn’t really discussed so it’s just an empty spot. i’d say it’s fair that they still prefer to be facing their foes and such, probably because this is how splinter taught them to fight (since there’s only so much you can translate from human martial arts to turtle martial arts with little — at least canonically known — teaching experience), though them being overconfident in defense WOULD make an interesting episode or area to explore.

I’ll be real with you, I’m a huge TMNT 2012 fan. I grew up with it as a kid, and I’m currently on my rewatch of the show because Rise roped me back into TMNT as a whole. however, i’m not blind to the various errors this show has and enjoy discussing them in calm settings like these. there’s a lot to improve upon and a TON to explore since the story was admittedly restricted by their episodes being 20 minutes and (at least by the end iirc since it got cancelled) the rush to get it finished.

i saw a post comparing the family dynamics of 2012 and rise really well, and it was essentially this: the rise turtles are brothers learning to be better ninjas, while the 2012 turtles are ninjas learning to be better brothers. i personally find dysfunctional but caring families an interesting topic and 2012 family def has its dysfunctions (along with its functions, but i digress), however this isn’t really addressed all that much in canon. same goes for the generational trauma (between splinter’s father’s raising methods and, you know, both the foot and hamato clans experiencing what can only be succinctly described as genocides). i do feel like the characters develop as the story continues, though to be fair to you, you’ve only seen up to early s2 and therefore would not have this perspective. the writing still could definitely be improved upon, but hey, where would i be without it? someone has to come up with my based headcanons, it might as well be me!

i feel like there was more i wanted to say, but without your post right in front of me, my brain’s kind of failing. oh well! i’ll let you know if i have any other additions!

I think I remember the post your talking about? I definitely remember the "raised different" part at least.

Also to give a little bit more insight: I got into rise because a friend dragged me kicking and screaming and after watching the first season, I got hooked into the franchise. I watched 2012 season 1 with them because they had actually grown up with 2012 and wanted to attempt to rewatch it (and you know how that turned out), I read most of the IDW series up to a certain point??? i haven't been able to keep reading the comics but I know I have most of them downloaded on my laptop somewhere. I also watched the Batman vs TMNT animated movie which was KILLER. So I am pretty well versed in the franchise at this point, I know how people characterize the turtles in different spheres, but I also know because I'm much older than the original demographic my opinions are a lot different.

I've read many a fic set in 2012 as well btw and I feel like some of those fics are a lot better at writing the characters and their characterization? their family is very dysfunctional, in pretty much EVERY series but I would also like to point out that calling it dysfunctional without pointing out some of the flaws in that family dynamic and how it is written is a bit.... negligent.

to give you a bit of an idea of what I mean: My friend really loves mikey. he is their favorite. but the writing of mikey in 2012 makes him out to be an actual idiot whose weird and just... its a lot of really bad representation especially since his mannerisms were written in a way that is similar to mocking people with ADHD (this is a time-related thing, I know thats how people were written like that back then but it does NOT AGE WELL). This writing really bummed my friend out who came from rise and got so much good content with Mikey who got hugs and tho he was considered the youngest he was still respected and written well (HE THREW A BOAT GUYS. HOW SKJHFJKSH).

my criticism of 2012 is biased and I know this but I also understand it was a lot of people's favorite show. People have screamed at me for pointing out flaws in leo's character and how he fights before, literally I made a post about it lol, which is not how you have a civilized conversation about a show you like and want to defend. 2012 had its merits I'm sure, but it also had a lot of issues because of the medium it was in, the writers on crew, the design team, and how people viewed the franchise to begin with. (the original story was a mocking of power rangers and stuff guys, it was supposed to be goofy and weird. the literal antagonists are called "The Foot Clan" like???? you can make it gritty but don't forget its roots!)

i believe a lot of shows could be improved upon in general and if your not open to criticism about what people like me, a fan who is an animator and understands the intricacies and minutia behind the scenes, then you may have your nostalgia goggles on too tight there buddy (not you sai guy, lol you actually sound open minded. this is a general out to everyone response)

Now I have been thinking, what if creator reader was actually born in Teyvat. But their face is completely different and reader has an insane amount of luck. And let's add the imposter! Creator as well. So basically reader has already been used to serving their "creator". Oh and the " Creator " Actually has "bad luck" So everyone in Teyvat has to protect them, little did they know Teyvat was actually despising the "creator" And want them dead. And this is where thing get a little bit more interesting. So we already know that reader has an insane amount of good luck? Well Teyvat already got bored with the fake creator and decided to show who the real creator. By also humiliating the "creator" At the very festival that is dedicated to the "creator" By punishing the ones that don't believe that they are the "real" Creator. At this tim let's just say the winds picked up, the earth shok, the temperature begin to be colder, and the sky was dark. Basically everyone is panicking and praying to the " Creator " To stop it, even the Archons. And what's even funnier is that one of them (probably Venti) said it out loud like "Your Grace this is the time to show your powers and show those non-believers that you are the Creator". And of course they pretend to do it and hoping it will stop, and let's just say at this time reader was supposed to be the one serving the " Creator" Food or something that has to use a knife, and accidentally make a quite a big gash at the "creators" Arm. At this time the storm cleared and of course the Archons are outrageous with reader. And making reader the sacrifice instead. But then they noticed how their "creators blood is not golden, but just a tad bit glittery-er than normal blood, they just noted that their creator might still need to charge their powers (but the truth is that their "creator eats special food so that their blood could turn gold, but of course no blood can turn pure gold except for the real creator) and when the execution ceremony begin, just by luck (kinda) when the sword almost decapitated readers head, lighting striked and broke the sword, but also making a quite noticeable gash at readers chest to their right arm. And everyone is surprise, because 1. Reader never really get hurt to the point they bleed and 2. Their blood is gold, pure gold. And now everyone is turning their head towards their "creator" And their "creator" Is starting to make a run for it, but of course Xiao caught up and everyone is mad. So the Archons insteadly kill the fake one. And now is apologizing to reader.

I have no more ideas for this so you can continue it. Btw I am sending this to few other sagau writers. Because I want to see what they want to add to this.

okay so i haven't watched the anime but Mushoku Tensei is a standard isekai anime right? except the protaganist was born as a baby in this world BUT he retains all of his memories from his past life in his old world.

So I've had the thought of what if that but sagau?

Where reader is born into Teyvat and grows up there but still retains their memories from their past life.

Reader being born as a young child for the church of Mondstadt maybe? So they know all about worshipping gods and such and so they're pretty close to the "god" of this world.

Or perhaps whenever you get born into Teyvat, you're born before the traveler gets there. When you're the same age as you were when you first started playing Genshin, that's when the traveler appears maybe?

So you know everything that's about to happen in Teyvat, you know the story and everything.

But the best course of action would be to not interfere. Not like anything bad has happened to the traveler (yet). And you couldn't protect them even if you tried.

So you stay quiet and just live your life as a kid in Teyvat. You worship the creator as you're told to do, even though you didn't know they existed before you came to Teyvat.

And then, perhaps, the "creator" decides to execute/hurt/punish a character you like or the traveler themselves.

You can't just sit idly by, even if they don't know you at all you love them. You'd do anything for them, even go against the "creator" you've been told to respect love and fear for your entire life on Teyvat.

You tried everything, smuggling them away, trying to convince them to run away, taking their place.

They were too loyal, and would rather be punished by their creator than live and run away.

You didn't allow them to die, you weren't afraid of death and you'd gladly take their place if it meant they could live. They were so much more important than you.

But Teyvat wouldn't allow you to die. You were born here and grew up here for a reason. The "Creator" did not know as much as you did, they were not as loved by Teyvat as you were.

A gash of golden blood spilled from your arm as you dodged the spear that attempted to slice into your throat.

It was at that moment the entire world stopped spinning and all eyes were on you

and then the "Creator".

Seize by SpringZephyr was probably one of the first fics i've read for mfb on ao3. it's so funny and idc that everyone is kinda ooc, kyoya as several guys' first gay experience is somehow hilarious to me, don't judge me.

Kyoya and Affection by @andro-dino is actually the cutest and i really love the polycule of kyoya/hyoma/tsubasa PLUS nile which just makes it better. yes, give him allllll the boyfriends.

Darkness in Triplicate is so just wow incredible, i fell absolutely in love with this fic. i've always loved this trio and felt like you could do a lot with them in fan content bc yes they totally trauma bonded over the dark power possessing them and yes they have never had a decent conversation with each other. the possiblities!!!!!!!!

finally Ursa Minor is a fic i adore bc,,, what if they were actually friends? and what if they spend some casual down time together? and what if they watched bad movies and painted each others' fingernails? i'll tell you what. fuzz and feels and every good warm thing. that's what.

I don't normally make long posts like this, but I'm hoping that I can help at least one person out.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was in theaters and has been streaming on Disney+ for a few days. The movie is great, btw. It's funny and beautiful and heartwarming. IMO it's the perfect send off for our beloved superhero found family. Definitely worth the watch. And chances are if you were wanting to see it, you already have. But if you haven't yet and are planning to, I want to give you a warning.

IF YOU ARE AT ALL SENSITIVE TO DEPICTIONS OF ANIMAL ABUSE, ANIMAL TORTURE OR ANIMAL DEATH, PLEASE PROCEED WITH CAUTION WHEN WATCHING THIS MOVIE.

I know the animals aren't real. I know they're CGI and no actual animals were harmed. And I know that sometimes we like to poke fun at trigger warnings when we feel like they are arbitrary or excessive. But this is one of the times where I really could have used some. I had no idea that GotG 3 was going involve Rocket's backstory. And if you know anything about his story, you know it is very dark and devastating, especially in regards to how humans treat animals. I've seen plenty of movies with animals dying or being tortured. Heck, I've even watched C*nn*bal H*l*ca*st where real animals were k*lled onscreen. The difference is that I knew what I was getting into and was able to mentally prepare myself for it. And for the record, I didn't handle the deaths in that movie very well either.

Of course, there are extenuating circumstances in my case. A lot of stressors not related to this movie were weighing on me going into it that definitely affected my reaction. But I still maintain that I would've had a much easier time had I known what I was getting into from the top.

This post is my warning to you, just on the off chance that you're like me and appreciate the heads up when it comes to certain topics.

i was supposed to ramble about this last night/ after its premiere, but i was so sleepy lol-

If you haven't watched it, here it is!

For those who do not know about the series, I highly recommend watching from Episode 1 before this episode to prevent spoilers and confusion.

Basic Information:

AVM - ANIMATION VS. MINECRAFT

this amazing series that I always ramble and brainrot about is made by one of my favorites, Godliest Animator of the whole time, Alan Becker! (It is also a part of my childhood btw.) The Mini animated series features 5 stick figures, Second Coming, Blue, Green, Red and Yellow who are created by Alan himself on his computer, the legendary AAA game, Minecraft is also featured in the series. The series' plot basically starts with the Stick figures messing around and playing with the minecraft icon which it then turns to the five venturing deep into the world of minecraft, from a soft or happy story to intense and angsty lore, the series currently contains 3 Seasons and 30 Episodes, it started in the year 2015.

Now I'm gonna talk about the final Episode:

The King [Ep. 30]

Honestly...this has to be the best episodes and one of my favorites from the series itself, Alan and his Animation crew outdone themselves, making the 7-8 months of work and compilation all worth it, all I have to tell them is they did an Epic job and thanks to them, the episode was possible to be made, I thank all of them, including Alan for making this series, its already like the series we see on our local TVs, but this is different. There are no voices, nor dialogues, but just Stickfigures, movements, perspectives and beautiful music, and an epic Tale of 5 stickfigures.

I also had no idea King Neo/Orange's background was like that, what DJ (Alan's friend) said from the commentary was true, "Every villain is actually a hero in their own stories/head", yes, just look at how Orange hated minecraft because of the test gameplay and glitch that happened which caused his son's/sibling's demise, he just wanted to get his son back, unfortunately King can't because his beloved one is already dead. (maybe.)

The glitch scene, specifically THIS scene

This. Shocked me. It reminded me so much of Pibby apocalypse. I was screaming "NOOOOO" while the video progressed, look at Orange :(, much worse, HE SAW HIS OWN BELOVED ONE DIE AT THE FRONT OF HIS VERY OWN EYES!!! I MEAN- WHO WOULDNT BE ON DESPAIR SEEING THAT? YOUR LOVED ONE, MEETING THEIR DEMISE INFRONT OF YOUR VERY OWN EYES!! My goodness...ALL I CAN SAY THIS IS VERY GOOD, SNACKABLE ANGST HMHMHMHMUHEHHE. The quality of the animation was so good too! The series really became an anime in a matter of time lmao-

next up, when Orange planned how to destroy minecraft, I saw some scientific formulas there which activated nightmare fuels..hahahhehe. Mans really doing everything just to get his son back :(

When Purple saw that Orange was looking for the colored stickfigures (because he saw them playing minecraft at one of the local tvs in the city, he figured out they might know where the minecraft icon is and help him destroy it.), Purple went to Orange, telling him that he has already met them. Proving that, Purple did some fighting moves, but Orange didnt respond, Next, Purple pulled up and elytra which was from minecraft and equipped it, flew up and away with a firework and Orange finally responded and took him in.

Finally, the fight scene. Purple punching King Orange was kinda satisfying after that betrayal, but the staff was stolen by Orange once again so their plan to catch King Orange failed-

HEROBRINE MADE A FRICKING APPEARANCE LMFAO I WAS ROFL SO HARD BECAUSE MANS WAS JUST DODGING LIKE THE ZERO TWO MEME 😭😭 ALSO. He possessed red again, that also shocked me, i was shouting "EPISODE ONE FLASHBACK?!?!?!" I JUST- AUSHEJEHWN ITS TOO EPICLY AMAZING AND FANTASTIC

the movements were also clear to see, I wonder how many animators animated every single stickfigure and mob in there to make the movements-

ENDGAME PART OR WHERE THE WHITE THINGY- VOID THING GOT STRONGER FROM THE STAFF, I STARTED TO STIM SO HARD BECAUSE IT WAS SO GOOD AND INTENSE, CUE THE MUSIC AND GRAPHIC, LOOK AT THE 6 STICKFIGURES GOING ONE BY ONE TO THE KING TRYING TO STOP HIM FROM DESTROYING MINECRAFT,, THEY WERE PUT IN THE WHITE VOID AND THAT CAUSED THEM TO GLITCH! THEN-THEN-

Purple stood up and ran to King Orange, he countered the white void, reaching his hand to the King, this activated Flashbacks of the tragic Past, Purple struggling similar to Orange's son struggling to get out of the glitch. and when Purple gave up, Orange put the staff down and ran to Purple, he then realized that he was doing the same thing that Minecraft did to his son. He also realized Purple was the only one who understands him, who was with him through his plan and is like his beloved one, He also jumped in to the void to get Purple as his memories of him betraying Purple flashed, but Purple dissapeared to particles as Orange also dissapeared..

ALSO! SECOND COMING'S QUICK THINKING WORKED, SAVING EVERYONE OMFG I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!

The way they did everything together just to stop minecraft from getting destroyed..the audacity of these 5 stick figures, I love them and their friendship so much!

I know some actually dislike the ship, King Orange x Purple because their relationship is more of a Father and Son dynamic, but for me and as one of the ones liking their dynamic, I actually cried when they hugged..King Orange is the new Father Purple needed, and Purple is the new son King Orange needed. I cried so much at this part, being happy because they finally realized they needed each other to fill the hole in their hearts. NOT TO MENTION THE DRAMATIC MUSIC HOLY GDOSYQJHWJQHWMAHAKH

bit late with this one but i wanted to finish laundry first so here we go.. notes on this bitch

right off the bat, yes! i did rotoscoping!

what! after avoiding it since 2017!! shoutout to jennifer @antoniosvivaldi for inspiring me to do that, btw. you should absolutely check out her stuff if you haven't already--her style is so unique and refreshing!

for the most part, i think they turned out swell--after effects behaved itself for once, which like, thank fuck, because i was on a call with fio @maranello and others at 1 in the morning like "haha! i totally know what i'm doing!" narrator voice they did NOT know what they were doing, they were making educated guesses based on past horrible experiences (hence avoiding rotoscoping for years 💀).

but this is meant to be educational lol so! what is rotoscoping? simply put, it's a tracing technique. it has its roots way back in animation when tech was starting to pick up in like the 1920s and artists wanted a more efficient way of animating. rotoscoping is one of those tools that've been used differently from how it was originally intended, which is actually? so cool from like, a media arts study perspective?? because it's commonplace to use it for live-action film and vfx work as a way to mask scenes out and isolate them in addition to its original use of mapping things to isolated scenes. i won't bore you with the stuart hall encoding/decoding stuff, but just know that i find the development of digital art circa adobe dominance fascinating. i am using this century-old animation technique to impose my blorbo upon the eyes of thousands.

ANYWAY. i really liked this particular mask--it has a lot of movement but still manages to flow nicely?

next up: the lightsaber

goodness. where do i start. well first of all i had a vision of something much more 2d when it comes to lightsaber anatomy, lol. but i extended my subscription for maxon and figured--why not take full advantage of this while i've still got it? so i got this 3d model of luke's lightsaber. it's untextured and unrigged and clunky but thankfully it had most of the inner parts so as far as i'm concerned i struck GOLD.

idk what i can really say in terms of like What Is 3d Modelling, because i think people have an understanding of that. so we'll go instead thru my process!

i added materials and added a null object (does that count as rigging? for something as straightforward as this?) to do a simple rotation animation on the first day...

and then i had an idea before bed to separate the parts like that one scene in the clone wars where they show how a lightsaber is assembled, except i haven't watched the scene so god knows how they animated it NKJFGNDFKJGDF. anyway the day after, this was kinda where i got:

keyframing on c4d is a Bitch because u can't just Access The Graph Editor you have to go through the dope sheet and change ur views and it's just. annoying!! coming from an after effects standpoint! but i can see how it's optimized for Actual Animation work so ughgh. we deal. onwards..

asked the team over at usergif and natalie @kenobiis suggested putting in a kyber crystal to fill out the middle. i ended up taking the og "laser" cylinder and modifying/animating it because uh THIS is the real inside of a lightsaber and i am not putting all that into a 3 second gif LMAO. but yeah i fine-tuned the animation and plopped it in after effects, then fiddled with video copilot's saber to make luke's blade.

u might notice the motion blur--that's re:vision's RSMB! i also added a little bit of depth of field with frischluft, but it doesn't show up well in gif form. speaking of things that don't render well:

there is A FUCK TON of aliasing going on. i couldn't make any anti-aliasing settings work for some reason so i ended up trying to smooth it out in ae.. to probably not a lot of effect. i got the very edges around it smoothed out with the classic gaussian blur and a matte choker method, but the black rings are killer. ugh. it's whatever, i figure i'll work something better out for the next time.

everything else is fairly basic and intuitive i think? obviously used shape layers + alpha mattes, my beloved. i fucked up a little on the text because i think i made my offset keyframes backwards somewhere in the middle of the process but at that point i was too lazy to go back in and fix it. oops!

So fun fact: i read a bunch of different star wars books when i was younger, courtesy of my dad, because he had a bunch left over from when he was younger and he gave them to me once he re-found them in my grandpa's basement in middle school. Thing was, though, he had a far from complete collection; some trilogies would be missing a book or two; he only had the first arc of the Young Jedi Knights series (and even it wasn't complete), he only had one of the X-wing books total, etc etc. So I'd read through these books and I'd kind of get the picture of what was going on, but not completely, cause parts would be missing. He also only had books from the 80's and early 90's; the YJK books were actually the latest he had. So i had no idea what happened later in the lives of all of the new Academy students.

But, see, i was in middle school in approximately 2009-11, which was when they were still producing EU star wars books, which dad would see when he'd go to the store. One day he brought home the latest paperback book for me to read (probly caused I'd mentioned running out of material).

It was Invincible.

I jumped. From the Young Jedi Knights books. To Invincible. No New Jedi Order, no Dark Nest Trilogy (tho that may be a blessing honestly), none of the rest of the Legacy of the Force series. Straight to the end (minus the Fate of the Jedi books but whatever).

I do not recommend this method of consuming the Star Wars EU, for the record. The emotional whiplash was not appreciated. Hell, i suspect this may in fact have sparked my foray into fanfiction by way of fix-it fic because holy hell what happened to my spunky cast of teenagers?!?!?! Who hurt them?!?!?! (Rhetorical question the writers via the Yuuzhan Vong did.) (Not that I knew that of course, I'd completely skipped that series.)

Anyways I'm telling y'all all of this because this scene from Invincible, the aftermath of the battle of the twins, has stuck with me to this day, and while listening to Lullaby for a Princess (and the BotW fan animatic version, Lullaby for a Hero by @snowcapmt --which btw if you haven't watched either of these animations you need to go do that right now immediately actually) today i was possessed with the need to draw it along with the lyrics as a Text Art illustration, because I'm a sucker for those.

There's an alternate pencil version below btw because i started with pencil but this particular paper doesn't seem to like it very well so i inked over it (was able to add a few more lines of lyrics that way so it all worked out).

That is one BIIIG Milestone reached, so even if you can't complete the full game, you're definitely ready to upload a fully fledged demo👌be proud yourself, you definitely deserved it bro, and about length, I think it's a good amount, considering the short timeframe you had to work on it.

Also don't even worry about character arcs, as long as your story has Beginning/Build Up/Climax/End you're good to go 👍. Sometimes it's better when you don't have everyone's backstory explained to you ya know?

For example Michael Myers, like yeah, we saw him stabbing his sister as a kid, but we sure as hell don't know why exactly he did it and what he went through during his stay at Smith's Grove Sanitarium, yet he still managed to be one of the biggest horror icons today. (I'm strictly speaking about the OG Movie btw, idk shit about what they did to him in the sequels)

Sometimes, just some cool shit happening is enough for a story, it's not like we're expecting a full on 24 episode Anime in LN form either 🤷‍♀️ also considering that it IS a Yandere Story, having sympathy for the LIs falls a bit short, when they're probably gonna go full sicko mode on us somewhere in their routes 0_0"

I could just have Jayce give player a story of when he was young that fully traumatized him, buuuuuutt Jayce doesn't trust player all that much. It would make player understand why he is doing what he is doing, but I want him to be vague and just a bit cruel without any known motives other than, "I like you."

hiii i really really love the way you write and the themes you touch on in your posts id love to hear if theres any books/media that influenced your writing style + the things you focus on in your analyses !

This is actually really hard for me to pin down I've been racking my brains over this one. I tend to be a little bit of everywhere, just whatever catches my interest at the time. Most of my personal reading is nonfiction within the realm of philosophy/theology + history + english criticism; whatever fiction I do get around to tends to be horror and/or satire. House of Leaves by MZD actually has just about everything that tickles my fancy. Finally read it beginning of 2021 and I truly haven't been the same since. That's definitely a big one.

But to give you an idea here's the pile of books I'm looking at on my desk as I type this is: an anthology of John Wesley's sermons (founder of Methodism), House of Leaves, an anthology of Percy Shelley's poetry + prose, "The Sphinx in the City" essays on urban living + feminism, the communist manifesto, a dissertation on the influence of Hermann Hesse in Japan, "Thank God for the Atom Bomb" essays by a "conservative cultural critic", and how could i forget the 70pgs of the unabomber's manifesto i printed out.

Currently been slowly making my way through "Romanticism and Consciousness" which are essays on the historical/political background influencing Romantic literature. More often than not I tend to look for essays and critical readings of works before I actually do read said work proper. I don't recommend this btw I just never listen to my own advice. But like, this book inspired me to buy the Shelley anthology. And some of the essays in the Shelley anthology analyzing him I actually found online weeks prior and added them to my digital library. I'd rather read them physically, as I tend to highlight my books. I find highlighting + margin notes really help me stay focused otherwise simply Sitting And Reading makes me go a lil nutz unless the book really is that good. I backed an artist's first comic book that had me ensnared recently. Independent comics tend to do a number on me. Yes I'm still a huge homestuck fan. Will be going 8 years strong.

I reread Brave New World late 2020 after, somehow, getting my hands on it in middle school. Comparing the way the protagonist kills himself at the end vs trying to read Huxley's theological pieces, he should've stuck to the racist satire. I'm still gonna try to finish the Perennial Philosophy, though. All this rambling has me realizing the childhood series I grew up on was A Series of Unfortunate Events, so I think I'm starting to notice a trend.

But actually the biggest media type I consume is games I fucking love video games. I think I cried playing Disco Elysium. I wish more games understood its medium as well as DE. I think that's really what you have to find is stuff that understands its medium. Ososan is a show that is really fucking good at being a tv show, and I think it helps because it doesn't necessarily draw from anything prior because it's such a different beast from osokun (the ososan manga actually came out like a few months after it aired I learned recently).

I don't watch many movies or shows, and the ones I do make me really wanna read the original source material just so I could compare (A Clockwork Orange, American Psycho). I just last watched the Belladonna of Sadness and I think that's an animated movie that understands it's an animated movie. Why go for realism when you've got watercolors?

My other main criteria for any piece of work is that it makes me want to pick up smoking. I don't think I could explain this further if you asked.

Aside from. Any of whatever I just said. My writing background is largely academic with some journalistic experience. It makes media analysis really easy. It also helps that there's technically no wrong answer when it comes to critical readings, just like any school essay you just have to be able to back up your claims with evidence and articulate the connections you see. Prose is a new beast that I am attempting to tame but I think 1. You need to have fun with the learning process and I do in fact enjoy learning. This includes a willingness to examine and reexamine your own words even after you're done working on a piece and analyzing what you can/need to improve on. 2. I really enjoy being able to construct a sentence in a million different ways and I will always have a tab open for the Merriam-Webster dictionary-thesaurus while writing ANYTHING. 3. Did I mention having fun? I really have fun writing I love writing as a hobbyist. 4. Consume and question everything in equal measure. This will eventually produce something.

No, your estimation of my taste is actually on the money. I watched In The Mood for Love when I was teenager, but not his other films, so I should get around to that (and maybe rewatch In the Mood for Love lol). Another Chinese film on my watchlist is Better Days so maybe I can make a night of it.

There was a blog I followed that had a lot of old cinema Chinese film recs and so there are a few I want to get around to. I just like the idea of something as modern as film emerging and evolving across different cultural contexts. I'm definitely no film buff though.

The bit that just annoys about the recs is not just that I didn't ask for any but that many of the recs thrown at me on my blog are ones that don't have any appreciation for my taste whatsoever and then you've got that element of disappointing for people for obviously not being into the thing they've recced. Which I never asked for. I don't like Beserk, I know I don't like Beserk, what is the point of this ghigjdoigjdoij or, trying to get my bf into anime via anon asks is a bit weird as well (and he's not receptive to it lol).
