#i know there are probably other examples to shiggys acting but
Note
Also like little question. If Overhaul will be thing, you get me right?, then will he live alone or might he be with also a partner or just be the leader of the Shie Hassaika (idk how to wrote Hasaika?) And if he doesn't live alone will there be a chance of Chronohaul happening? Totally understand if not.
Completely other idea, maybe Eri can exist too as a "hatchling" of Overhaul. But she was either stolen from a bad home, was homeless or like already manipulated and therefore she is a good hatchling. And when Tomura and Dabi see that they may feel quite jealous about that fact that all their hatchling does it hate them, crying and fighting back. And they may use it to guilt trip the reader since they can't be such a good hatchling or Overhaul may use it to get them to agree to the rebirth of their hatchling via the lake/well/manipulation ect. And if that manipulation like works and the child is a good hatchling and Tomura and Toya are so damn happy that their squeaker loves them back like time passes. Maybe like 10 years or something. And their memories slowly come back. Because Kai didn't know that the rebirth/manipulation needs to be done every like 10 Years. And so they remember, right? First they become more distant or cautious of their parents and that behavior of course strikes them as weird. But every time they talk the now adult child turn hostile to the situation and completely closes up and denies everything. And maybe at done point they know like everything again. And are scared, but they try to act cool since the Nagas still think the child is manipulated. And so like since the child is an adult they can go hunting on their own. But then one day they meet Izuku again. And long story short through whatever mechanism. For example Izuku following them secretly back to the nest. The now very adult man murks Tomura and Dabi. But like when he does the Nagas don't recognize him fully and like they still think of readsr as a hatchling and so they protect them with everything. And die or are deadly harmed and passed out from blood loss/exhaustion protecting what they loved most. And when the reader it taken back by Izuku there is a whole latter of guilt trip. Cause on one hand they loved their parents over the last 10 years but now "they" have killed them. And they can't feel really ay home with Iilu cause of that guilt and them blaming themselves cause one just cannot simply throw 10 years of a great family relationship away like nothing had happened. And so they don't feel good, not at all. It is not what they wanted. The guilt eating them alive day and night. All the sleepless night thinking about if things would have been different. Maybe if they never remember maybe if Izulu just took them with him and ram away as far as possible. They feel alone in their bed....and cold....lonely.
Dawg, I’m fucking sobbing like holy shit.
If Reader did stay and grow up with Shigadabi and Izuku did kill them, Reader would feel utterly guilty about it. They’d probably end up killing Izuku and running back to the forest, or just letting their grief consume them to the point of numbness.
The reason why Overhaul has beef with Shigaraki is because Shiggy ratted Overhaul’s nest out. (A group of snakes is called a nest I think.) Shiggy did so by guiding a hunter to Overhaul’s nest and essentially framing the dude for stealing livestock.
Cause Nagas can be friendly and sometimes even guide humans, Shiggy only was revealed as the culprit after he was caught stealing a sheep. Overhaul was just vibing with his group till he lost his entire group and family.
Shigaraki only fucked his shit up further after Overhaul sought revenge for his group’s death, only for Shigaraki to brutally tears his tail and arms really badly.
Kai has to rely upon hypnotism and his venom to catch his meals, that’s how bad Shigaraki ruined him.
Saving Reader and keeping their location secret from Shigadabi is essentially his fuck you to them.
“You took something from me and I take something from you” kinda deal.
Eri was Kai’s adopted child as he was a decent parent in this AU, he was devoted to his mate and nest. Loosing them all utterly destroyed him.

Can’t stop thinking about how good Tomura is at acting
Not in the way that he makes up lies to tell people, but rather in the way that he has observed others from afar and integrates pretty well with them, only for a means to an end
Take the Mall Scene for instance. Shiggy walks around and acts like a civilian. He knows that civilians don't pay attention to other people, yet he still wears the hoodie to cover his face and keeps his head down to not draw any attention. He removes Father from his face and acts like any other person. He walks around completely unnoticed because he knows how to cover himself to look normal
Tumblr media
When he sees Midoriya, he acts like any other fan. Walks up and gets friendly. Even keeps up the act of "I saw you at the Sports Festival! You're pretty impressive!" and even Midoriya thinks to himself "Wow a lot of people watched the sports festival huh" - he thinks this guy is just another civilian until it's revealed that it's Shiggy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And EVEN when it's revealed, Shiggy continues to keep up his act for the people around them. They sit on a bench, close to each other, like they know each and are friends. Shiggy's hand around the neck would be obvious if it weren't for the fact that Izuku kept his head down as well. Izuku didn't want to draw attention, just like Shiggy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AND LISTEN LOOK Shiggy doesn’t KNOW Ochako, he's never met her and he's never spoke to her, so he doesn't know that Ocha is Izuku's friend. He just thinks she's some kind of civilian who "would never suspect something sinister was happening in this peaceful society!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So when she walks up and tells him to let go of Izuku, he looks at her and moves Father in his pocket, which was probably a fake threat to Izuku that if he didn't play along, he would kill her (Izuku likely thought he had a weapon or something). But when the kid can't even ACT like nothing bad is happening, Shiggy has to let go of Izuku and put on the most friendly apology known to man
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He completely switches to Friendly Civilian and laughs it off, then walks away, not before telling Izuku that he'll get angry if he gives chase
AND!! Even when Izuku is completely like "WHAT DOES AFO WANT", revealing that it is in fact Shigaraki to Ochako and drawing attention from the civlians, Shiggy doesn’t even drop the act fully. He's still aware of his surroundings and he's aware of the situation. He answers that he doesn't know and tells Izuku that he will kill him, before leaving calmly and quietly
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He slips out and away like he wasn’t even there. Nobody notices, because he’s learned how to act as a civilian
Like just... Tomura is so good at keeping up an act
And Tomura doesn’t lie. Every single word that he breathes is true. He ACTS like he’s all buddy-pals with Midoriya so the civilians don’t get suspicious (not that they would cuz they don’t pay attention, but it says a lot that he also took precautions), but every word he says is true
Anyway no thoughts head empty Shiggy observing civilians and how they act in order to do what he wants

the thing that's getting me about the whole "izuku sucks bc he doesn't care about villains" take is that, with the exception of dabi (who is actively trying to MURDER IZUKUS BEST FRIEND among others), izuku just,,,, doesn't know the villains' tragic backstories? like, he doesn't know the trauma that shiggy or toga or twice or spinner went thru. all he knows is that these ppl are responsible for the deaths of THOUSANDS of ppl and MANY heroes. 1/3
2/3. and its not like he's never been sympathetic to villains b4, yk? like, remember with gentle? where he saw that gentle was trying to save la brava and was peacefully turning himself in after losing? and izuku was like "yeah, we had a disagreement, but its fine" instead of "no he was trying to break in so I stopped him" or whatever. ig you could argue thats bc he didn't want the fest to be canceled, but I still hold that he understood what gentle was doing and played along.
3/3. idk it just really irks me that people forget that just bc WE know something, doesn't mean the CHARACTERS know. (and also, that just bc a character has an actually tragic, horrible, and traumatizing backstory doesn't excuse, you know, LITERAL MURDER???) I also just wish ppl would remember that the story isn't over and that we're in the middle of a scene where shit is still happening. like, just be fucking patient and wait for the story to unfold. THEN get mad if it doesnt work for you. jfc
okay but I'm glad you mentioned this cause it made me think about some panels from another recent chapter (and I'm sure someone has probably talked about this before, so I'm sorry if I'm highlighting Old News udndjdjdd)
(I'm on mobile so i have no idea how long this is, so i put the read more JUST TO BE SURE!)
sooooo, something that i really, reaaaally liked about bnha 286 was the moment in the vestige realm. when izuku morphs (transitions? teleports??? whatever) into this other dimension, the first thing he sees is all for one being his Creepy Controlling Self with shigaraki (as shown below)
Tumblr media
and, when he sees that shiggy is resisting and fighting back, izuku's immediate response is to try and intervene to help shiggy
Tumblr media
of course, as nana points out, the boy can't really do much with his body, but he was ready to give it his all anyway because he saw that shiggy needed help (and it didn't matter that they're on opposing sides. izuku moved with the intention of helping depsite the fact that he and shig were literally just fight each other a second before) and i just.... waaaaaah, this kid, you know?
so i wanted to point this out because, along with the example you given (and I'm sure there's more to be said about this but sudjsjjd), this makes me feel like izuku caring is a given. funneling that ability to sympathize into actually saving villains, though, does become a bit complicated when we consider the points you mentioned (like, having to keep a villain from killing those around them if that's what they're into didndjd; not having the prior knowledge needed to know why they're feeling what they are or what drives them to act as they do; as well as the balance needed to address the villain's needs and the consequences that are sure to follow whatever things they've done wrong).
here i am, getting scatterbrained again sjdndjd but yeah, i agree with you! like, on one hand, i think it absolutely makes sense to be upset that the league and other characters like them were/are neglected when they need(ed) help the most (though i think touya's situation will allow the narrative to begin highlighting how that issue exists and persists within hero society) but... i dunno. it's a balancing act, you know? these issues are very blurry and gray (as opposed to being just clear-cut, black and white, or easy to assess and judge as This or That), so i definitely feel your frustration BUT HOPEFULLY, canon elaborates on it all more so that we can have productive conversations about it in the fandom!!

Shiggy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
➳ pairing: shigaraki tomura x f!reader ➳ genre: angst, fluff ➳ warnings: mentions of death, swearing ➳ word count: 4119 ➳ rating: pg-15 ➳ summary: In which y/n joins the league of villains and discovers a soft side to her new boss. ➳ a/n: this is my first official oneshot that i wrote just for shiggy bc i just love him so much (*^.^*)
Tumblr media
y/n never wanted to be a villain. She wanted to be a hero, one proud to help others no matter the reward. Well, that was until that one fateful day.
It was just like any other day but after that day, nothing would ever be the same again. y/n was at school when it happened; when the attack began. She should have been there because, just maybe with her quirk, she could have saved them. It was a villain never seen before, one so terrible that he killed or at least severely wounded every hero he came across in a matter of minutes. That was until Endeavour came along. By the time the great pro hero Endeavour arrived, the fight had made it's way to your street. As the fight continued, the families were evacuated out of their homes by other heroes and sidekicks, knowing that the damage to the street was going to be major in this colossal fight.
You could feel the rumbles and vibrations under your feet even as you sat at your desk only a few blocks away. It's probably just some construction work nearby, the teachers said. If only.
Your parents and little sister were still inside when it happened, not yet to be evacuated when the blast went off. Even Endeavour himself was having a tough time fighting this villain and, despite seeing that the villain was not going after any civilians, he let out a huge blast of fire. It engulfed half of the street in seconds, scorching the villain into submission. Everyone that end was supposed to have been evacuated, but they weren't, your family were still inside. Still hiding from the battle outside. They just wanted to live, to survive this terrifying fight. They weren't so lucky.
That was the day you lost all faith in heroes. Their job was to protect and rescue civilians but they couldn't even get that right. Why? Because they would earn more if they took down the villain. He couldn't have held him off until he was certain everyone was safe and outside of the blast radius. The worst part about it, not a single hero was harmed in the blast. They all saw it coming and, instead of rushing in to get your family out in time, they turned tail and fled before the blast could hit them.
Endeavour was reckless but those other heroes... they were cowards. They gave their lives a higher importance than that of your family. Your caring mother, your loving father, your baby sister. They were left to burn, to scorch in the hellflame as the so-called heroes ran away, leaving them behind.
You were left all alone. Your friends pitied you, tried to comfort you but their love for the very heroes that left your family to die remained. It was despicable, the way they loved them sickened you. They were your friends no more, not if they couldn't see what heroes really were. They were greedy, selfish, liars who all deserved to die in the place of your family.
Of course, you didn't act on those emotions at first. In fact, you simply lived your life quietly. You remained alone, you discarded the friends that didn't understand your hatred of heroes. You lived your life as any other citizen, keeping your head down and letting the heroes do what they wanted.
Well, that was until Stain emerged. The hero killer, he empowered you. He shared similar views to you but he still seemed to believe that there was such a thing as a good hero, for example, All Might. From what you had seen on the news and other videos that were circulating the web not long after his capture in Hosu, he believed that All Might was a true hero. You, however, once even believed Endeavour was a true hero. If the number two hero was a scumbag then you had no doubt that so was the number one. All Might, like Endeavour, was likely to have let the fame and power go to his head. That was why, despite agreeing with Stain's ideology, you still had no faith in there being any good heroes anymore. Maybe the future generations would prove you wrong, but you doubted it. The future generation of heroes were being trained by those very scumbags after all.
After the incident in Hosu, you turned to a different kind of lifestyle. You still lived your ordinary everyday life, sure, but you started going after those so-called heroes you detested so much. With your quirk, it wasn't too difficult to take down some sidekicks. Not that you actually killed any of them, no, you simply did enough damage to put them in the hospital for a long time.
Heroes sucked. That was just the stone-cold truth, even though you sometimes hated to admit it. Those whom you had looked up to your entire life were nothing but a bunch of phonies playing pretend. All they wanted was the money, fame and power. Not a single one of them truly wanted to save people, to protect the citizens that need it.
After a while, it wasn't only the heroes you detested but also all those people with quirks that didn't use them, despite knowing that their quirk could help save so many. Without a licence, using your quirk in public is prohibited but that wouldn't stop a true hero. A true hero would do whatever they could to help, not just stand by taking pictures. You hated that some people, those people whom sided with Stain, might take one look at you and lump you in with the rest.
Before long, whatever feelings you had for saving people was gone. You didn't want to be a hero anymore, you didn't want to save the people who didn't even deserve saving. The ones who deserved to be saved were those who really couldn't help in any of those situations. The people with quirks that were practically useless in combat or would be too dangerous to use against other people. But most of all, the quirkless. There were not many quirkless people anymore but your mother was one of them. She lived without a quirk and she died without a quirk, maybe even because she didn't have a quirk. Your father wasn't to blame either, in that situation, his quirk wouldn't have been much help and your sister was so young that hers hadn't even surfaced before she died. Your's, however, could have helped. You could have safely evacuated your family on your own before the blast went off. You could have saved them, but you weren't there.
Not too long after you began going after sidekicks, stirring up quite a fuss in the news, you were approached by a rather interesting man.
"So you're the one they're calling Streak?" His voice was bland matching his face which was void of any emotion.
You turned back to the sidekick that was lying behind you with several glowing, neon scorches over his arms and legs, then back to the man before you, "I suppose I am."
Although you were ready to break out into a fight at any moment, this was a man you didn't recognise. He wasn't a hero or sidekick, that was for sure. Neither was he any ordinary civilian. A villain then?
"We have a proposal for you." A small girl also turned into the alley, smiling at you brightly yet somewhat wickedly.
Although you doubted the two of them and kept your guard up the whole way, you followed them back to what seemed to be their base of operations.
"A bar?" You questioned, following them inside in hopes of finding out what exactly they wanted.
Neither of them answered you and so, you simply continued to follow them down the steps until you were in the room at the bottom. There was another man sitting at the bar and one behind it. The man behind the bar looked interesting and all but it was the one sitting there, with a disembodied hand over his face, swirling a glass in his hand with his pinky raised, whom you found truly intriguing.
"You brought her?" The man behind the bar spoke.
He kind of looked like a walking shadow with bright yellow eyes. You recognised him somewhat, although you were unsure of where from. The same went for the man sitting at the bar, who was still yet to turn around and face you.
"Of course we did. If the boss says to go find the girl, we go find the girl." The younger girl declared although it was funny she was referring to you as the girl when she was so clearly younger than you.
"See, they listen to me." The man at the bar finally spoke with his somewhat mellow voice and put his glass down.
You simply tilted your head to the side as he turned to you, trying to take in his appearance but, thanks to the hand covering his face, you ended up just staring into his scarlet eyes.
Those very eyes narrowed at you and he sighed, "Are you sure you got the right one? She doesn't look much like a villain to me."
"You don't look all that much like a villain either, Shigaraki Tomura." You finally realised who you were speaking to, recognising him from the news as the leader of the league of villains, and to be honest, you were flattered that they had reached out to you.
"Tsk. You haven't seen what I look like without father yet."
You were unsure what he meant by father but decided not to ask. Not that you had much time to because he was already speaking again, although he turned back to his drink first and began swirling it again.
"So, what do you think about joining the league of villains?"
"I didn't think you would be that straight up." You giggled slightly.
Shigaraki, however, only began to lose his patience and began scratching his neck, "Do you want to help us destroy the heroes or not?"
"Oh, I'm in, but why did you single me out specifically?" You asked.
Shigaraki sighed but didn't speak any more than that, and so, the man behind the bar answered you, "We've been watching you for a while. Your agenda seems to match with ours and there is no doubting your usefulness in a fight. We believe you will be a valuable asset."
"I believe I will." You grinned.
"What exactly is your quirk anyway?" The man behind you asked.
You turned to him, trying once again to avoid staring at the unusual burn scars that covered his body, "Well, my quirk is neon. I can emit a neon light from both the palms of my hands and the tips of my fingers. The light is kind of like a laser, it burns through pretty much anything it touches. I can also use the neon energy within me to charge my body and the use a burst of that energy to move from one place to another in the blink of an eye. Although, using my quirk too much can take a lot of energy so I can only do that a couple of times before I'm completely worn out. As for the beams I shoot from my hands, they don't use as much energy so as long as I've eaten a good breakfast I'm good to go for hours."
Shigaraki turned his head to you, seemingly finding some interest in hearing about your quirk before focusing his attention back on swirling his drink again.
And that was how you joined the league of villains. After officially becoming a member, you learnt that the man behind the bar was called Kurogiri. He was quite possibly the most normal of the villains. Although, none of them were really all that normal at all.
Dabi, or as you liked to call him 'fireman', was almost quiet. He didn't act as though he cared for, well, anything. Although, he certainly enjoyed fighting heroes. Pretty much all of the time he showed little to no emotion, but somehow the two of you had gotten along quite well since you joined the league.
Toga was quite possibly insane, but that only gave her personality. She was fun to be around and you enjoyed hanging out with another girl around your age, although she was a few years younger than you. The nickname you had given her was 'loopy' and surprisingly she didn't mind it nor find offence in it. Maybe it was because she was starting to like you, or maybe simply because Kurogiri told her to play nice.
Shigaraki had his own nickname too, of course, although he didn't like it. He would have much rather you call him boss or just his name but instead you were persistent in calling him by 'Shiggy'. You called him that not only because of his name but also his shaggy hair, it was kind of a combination of the two. That shaggy hair was something you had grown used to seeing, you even went as far as to ruffling it this one time but, obviously, he didn't much appreciate it and threatened to turn you to dust with four of his fingers wrapped around your wrist.
Actually, Kurogiri was the only one who didn't have a bizarre nickname. The most he got was a casual 'Kuro', which he seemed to prefer anyway.
Getting along with everyone was much easier than you expected it to be. Well, except for when it came to Shigaraki. Your boss was... difficult, to say the least. And, although he didn't seem to mind you, his cold exterior kept pushing you away when you tried to talk to him about something other than work or attempted to know him better.
It was over a week before he removed his mask, which you now knew was called father, in front of you. His face was different from how you had expected it to be. His face was... well, it was crusty. Especially around his eyes and mouth. His lips were split and chapped with a scar crossing over the left side of them. Another scar could be seen over his right eye. Despite all of that, he was surprisingly cute. He was younger than you initially thought, probably only around your age. You found your eyes scanning over him from the little beauty mark that dotted the underside of his mouth, up to the dry skin around his narrowing eyes.
"What?" He somewhat snapped.
"Nothing. Just- Taking in your face before it hides behind that mask again."
Shigaraki scrunched up his brows but decided to ignore your gaze to focus on what he was doing. You had come to know that your boss was quite the gamer and, although he usually played in his room where the rest of you couldn't disturb him, sometimes, when Dabi and Toga were out, he would bring his switch with him and come to sit at the bar. Both you and Kurogiri knew not to distract him. Although, it wasn't so that you wouldn't anger him but simply because you also had a love for games and knew what it was like when someone interrupted your train of thought and cost you your win. So, you kept quiet or went for a walk.
Although, soon you grew to enjoy watching Shigaraki as he played his games and so, you simply sat at the bar a few stalls away to watch him. You liked watching the way his lips would curl into a little smirk every now and then when he knew he was going to win. You also liked it when he lost and scowled at the game, cursing under his breath before unconsciously pouting slightly. Once, he even accidentally destroyed the switch with his quirk mid-game. He was furious and stormed out to get another. You simply chuckled when the door closed behind him and got up to clean the mess. Then, you too headed out because there was something you needed to buy.
"Shiggy." You grinned, approaching your boss with a slight skip in your step.
"What?" He sighed, already used to the shitty nickname you had given him.
"I made you something."
He simply turned his head to you and frowned but, when you held out your present for him, his expression changed into something you hadn't yet seen. Surprise? Shock? Gratefulness? Who knows but it was better than the usual sulky face he showed you.
"It's a pair of gloves. They will only cover your pinkies but it will stop you from disintegrating anything else on accident." You explained, passing him the little gloves you had designed specifically for him.
"I- um, thank you?" He sounded so unsure of his words as if he hadn't a clue how to express gratitude but it made you smile nonetheless.
"You're welcome." You spoke with your usual perky voice.
Before joining the league, you had little reason to smile but now that they had finally grown used to you, you were smiling more often than not. You smiled when you talked to Dabi, Toga and Kurogiri, but it was when you were with Shigaraki that you found yourself smiling the most. He was so strange and so cold but there were times when he unintentionally showed you a soft side of him. Times when he was playing his games and even times when he was talking to you. His eyes would soften or he'd almost smile. It was always a small gesture but it still made you feel all warm and happy.
Even now, as he took the gloves from you, being very careful not to use all of his fingers as he did so, his eyes were soft and his lips curled up ever so slightly.
"I hope the material is okay, I tried to make sure they would be as comfortable as possible."
"Why do all of this? Why go to all the trouble?" He asked whilst slipping the gloves over his pinky fingers and around his wrists.
"Because, boss, we can't have you accidentally disintegrating the whole building now can we?" You joked although it didn't seem that Shigaraki found it all that funny as he just huffed, picked up his new switch, and headed back to his room.
"Don't take it to heart, he doesn't do well with displays of affection." Kurogiri sighed, trying to reassure you that Shigaraki was indeed happy with what you had done for him.
But you already knew that he was. You were good at reading people, even people like him, and you would have known if he was angry with you. You just wondered why he was like this and why he struggled so much to believe that any of you truly cared for him. The league, to him, was just a group of people with the same goal but to the rest fo you, it was almost like a family. Maybe one day he would realise that too.
It had been a long day, in which you, Dabi and Toga had all been out getting into your own little handfuls of trouble. Kurogiri stayed here with Shigaraki while he played his games. When you came back, you decided to find Shiggy and update him on the work the three of you had been doing for the most part of the day. When he wasn't sitting at the bar waiting for you to come back, you sighed and headed in the direction of his room. You hadn't been in there before and you were unsure of how Shigaraki would react if you came in without asking but, you also knew it was highly likely he was playing his games and decided that having him yell at you for coming in was better than having him yell at you for disrupting his game. And so, you turned the handle and walked inside.
Shigaraki was indeed playing video games. There he sat, with his back to you, on the floor in front of his tv with a controller in his hand. Despite wearing the gloves you gave him, he was still playing with each of his pinkies lifted off of the remote, presumably so that he didn't get into the habit of using all his fingers in case he one day forgot while not wearing the gloves. His head turned ever so slightly towards you for a second, although his eyes never once left the screen, but he just ignored you and continued playing.
He was clearly busy with his game so you simply walked further into the room, closing the door behind you, and sat at the end of his bed. You took a quick glance around the room, noticing how it was pretty much bare except for the bed and gaming set up in the corner.
It was a few minutes until Shigaraki said anything, but soon he was wondering why you were even here, "y/n. What do you what? Why are you here?"
"I just want to watch you play for now." You admitted, expecting him to tell you to leave.
But he didn't tell you to go. He just grunted and continued playing his game, so you stayed.
The more you watched him play, the more he fascinated you. His strategy in-game mirrored his intellect in reality too. His fingers tapped away so quickly at the buttons as he hammered in combo after combo, striking the enemy's weak points as if he memorised each and every one of them. Then again you wouldn't expect anything more from him. Shigaraki was a surprisingly intelligent man. He knew what to do and when to do it and, even if his temper would tempt him against it, he always knew when to back out of a fight he couldn't win. When it came to both reality and videogames, however, that was rare. He thought things out well and it seemed he even learned things from the games he played and applied them to real-life situations to provide him with the upper hand.
Shigaraki Tomura really was one of a kind.
A few more minutes passed and you found yourself pulling out your phone and swiping to the camera. You snapped some pictures of  him playing down on the floor in front of you. Then, you rolled onto your side so that you were lying on his bed, hanging off the side a little to get the perfect angle of his face as he played. You snapped more photos before sitting up and looking through them. He looked so cute when he played his games.
Before you realised, however, he had completed his level and was climbing up to walk over to you. He took the phone from your hands and pressed all of his fingers against it, watching it disintegrate into dust before slipping his pinky back into his glove.
You tilted your head up at him and pouted, "Those were some good pictures."
"Why were you taking pictures of me?" Shigaraki sighed, clearly not really in the mood for your shit.
"Because you just look so cute when you're focusing on your games and I wanted some pictures of you." You admitted, not caring for the way his eyes narrowed further.
"But why?"
You sighed and climbed up onto your knees so you were more at face level with him.
"I want pictures of you because I like you, stupid." You confessed, flicking him lightly in the centre of his forehead.
Shigaraki only began to scratch at his neck as his eyes widened slightly in confusion.
"You... like... me?" He questioned, pointing a finger into his chest.
He clearly still didn't get it, or at least he didn't believe you, so you reached out for his shirt, scrunching it in your fists slightly, as you pulled him in for a kiss. He was in such a shock when your lips touched his that he lost his balance and fell onto you. His hands, that were either side of your head, stopped his weight from crashing down into you but he was still lying on top of you nonetheless.
"Do you get it now?" You smiled, reaching up to peck his nose as his cheeks began to dust over with a slight blush.
"I- I."
You smiled and pulled him back down towards you, stopping briefly just before your lips came together again, "Shut up, Shiggy."

Tbh I like the way you write shiggy but sometimes the rape is too much. And in the majority of your fics you write shigaraki as if he dosen't love the reader at all and it throws me off balance a bit. Most of the fics you write their usually wasn't any consent givin and the reader seems to not want him at first, and says stop, then shiggy dosen't stop. (Of course this is probably just a personal thing more than anything else)
I like how you write though, you're very talented and you're good at describing scenes. I enjoy reading your writing overall and get excited everytime I see that you've posted. Dark fics are things that alot of people like and I think you write them really well. I may not be one to enjoy the actual plot but I still read it because it's fun to see how others portray shiggy.
????????
Umm not sure what your reading but I don't have rape fics. I don't really have dark content. I write a rough Dom Shig and lots of soft touch starved Shig. I have ones where Shigaraki is kinda forcing her at first but she cleary begins to enjoy it. There's only 2 fics where the reader says stop. And one of which the reader is just being bratty and her thoughts are written.
All my fics have reader enjoying him at the end. And reader is Shigaraki girlfriend in 99% of them and is in love with him, and most cleary state the Shigaraki wants, obsessed with reader. It may not have lovey dovey words in them but it is conveyed how much he wants here. Also I have plenty of soft Shigaraki I really don't get where your getting the rape thing. As for consent she doesn't have to straight up say, yes Shigaraki we can fuck, she's moaning, calling his name, she's feeling pleasure, so don't know what you want there.
I'm really curious how much of my stuff you've read and which fics your referring to cause none of this describes my stuff. It's clear Shigaraki wants reader.
I don't mind criticism but REALLY don't get what your saying. Shigaraki is always in love and obessed with reader. I feel her moaning and not fighting him is there, she's is not fighting him in any fics except 2 and in Obedience Training she's being a brat and it even states she wants him. In A Ferel Act it starts as rape but by the end she's into it. So you need to show me examples cause I don't write rape.
So which are you referring??
I mean I'm glad you enjoy my content but maybe you have my fics confused with someone else cause this really confused me.

Hawks’ performance review
So now that a certain super long arc or Hero Academia’s is finally done, I wanted to give 1 final review to the actions of easily it’s most controversial actor (which is an accomplishment to say the least); Hawks. Go over everything, get it all out, & use this as a way of resolving my thoughts on his influence on the arc.
Tumblr media
A warning going in; while I consider myself a Hawks fan, I have no intention of going easy on him in the slightest for when he messes up. And spoilers: he didn’t do so hot. So if you’re the kind of fan who doesn’t like a fav getting smack talked, no judgement but this may not be the meta post for you.
Pre-planning:
Now despite my known opinions of his conduct, there is good to talk about; fittingly enough at the very start of the arc with his pre-planning. Hawks did do objectively excellent in gaining the needed information from the PLF and passing it along to his allies. This not only included locations & important dates, but base layouts and enemies of interest. Additionally: his recruitment of Jeanist, while using questionable methods (I still don’t know why he drew a weapon on him), did end up being quite a smart move. I honestly want to give him full marks...however, it was his idea to bolster the invading hero army’s numbers; an idea which became using child soldiers. His roll in that war crime, as well as another point of pre-planning we’ll discuss later, well be held against him; but hey, almost full marks in this category is still kinda good.
Tumblr media
But we must also talk about his actual field work; which means we must discuss, one last time...the incident. The bad incident. The society damaging incident. The incident from which his carrier, his dignity, and his respect as a hero can never recover. That incident. This is where the good stops.
Field work/The incident:
See, for all that Hawks did his dirty deeds for the ‘greater good’ no good has yet come from it. The heroes he saved from Twice immediately had to go up against Gigantomachia (just as unstoppable, far more murderous), his actions inspired Toga to kill an old lady, and Dabi used him as evidence that all heroes suck actually. And on a personal level for him (which I do care about, as his fan, make no mistake); he killed one of his only actual friends, burned all his bridges out of the HC’s grasp, and paid for the fuel with his wings. Like, unless the HC drop him for being quirkless, he might be trapped now that he’s shown complete loyalty to their interests. In other words, the direct results of his course of actions were 100% devastating consequences.
Tumblr media
Though to be honest; that’s probably how it should be, narratively. The murder of Twice was a failing on Hawks’ part on every level. 1) He broke one of the rules a hero must never break by committing murder. 2) He did this because he failed to non-fatally apprehend a villain, despite that being his job which he is the 2nd best at in the country. 3) Evidence suggests Hawks went in planning to kill Twice if he didn’t take his offer, and in during so let opportunities to apprehend him slip by (for example, by letting him get his last words in instead of retraining or knocking him out. This was before Dabi’s arrival). 4) As a result of his actions, his friend in need of saving died right in front of him.
A failure to save, a failure to apprehend, a failure as a moral guardian, and actions that are the complete antithesis of “Plus Ultra”. (Though I suppose is his defense, he never did go to UA.) While his fans like to portray Hawks’ actions as a “tough call” he made, the fact is that moral & professional failures like that narratively shouldn’t see results.  Any of these would warrant serious reprimands for heroes with 4-digit ranks or 1st year hero students; so for the no.2 hero to perform all 4 failures is unforgivable.
Risk Assessment Review/Was it actually worth anything?:
Tumblr media
And see, I’ve been trying my best to keep track of what things would be like if Twice were alive, so I can tell you they haven’t seen results. Nothing major changes if Twice were alive. Despite Caleb’s “points,” Jin couldn’t clone super Shiggy without a chance to get his data, and it’s unlike he was able to clone Machia either given that he didn’t, so he wouldn’t have had a huge effect on proceedings. Likely, he would’ve chilled with Spinner & Compress ‘till capture. He wouldn’t have been able to escape Jeanist either if he was retrained properly (which he would’ve been, as Jeanist is actually good at apprehending villains), since his clones would break before putting any real strain on steel cables.
It’s only after Compress rescued everyone cold a case be made for how Twice might’ve changed things. But that case could not be made easily, as the events following Compress’ escape act were shaped largely by the whims of AFO. So...*shrug*. We have no idea if Twice would’ve been taken or left behind, or if he’d have been in shape to do anything if he was free to act. Though it is worth restating that Jeanist, like Hawks, had the skill and the quirk to counter Sad Man’s parade.
(And of course, all of these assumptions are made going along with the belief that Twice would be free if Hawks hadn’t killed him; which I believe to be a false dichotomy. The reality is that Hawks’ favorable quirk match-up against Twice should have allowed him to apprehend him had Hawks conducted himself as a proper hero. Oh and did I mention he keeps his wings in that scenario? Because he does.)
Conclusion:
Well I think my most surprising finding is that Hawks might actually have a good future in some kind of hero-adjacent desk job since he seems better at that kind of stuff than field work. His main strengths seem to be in long term planning, and secret communication. (Although he did also encourage a war crime, so let’s not give him too much credit here.)
But reviewing his hero work plainly shows that did not go well, to put it lightly. To reiterate his main 4 mistakes that would result in serious reprimands for 1st years; he demonstrated a complete lack of faith in his own abilities to carry out his duty as a hero, he resorted to immoral methods to make up for this, resulting in him not only failing to apprehend a villain, but save a friend in need of help. This resulted not only unnecessary deaths and societal damage they’ll be feeling for a while, but Hawks also might’ve ruined his life in all kinds of different ways.
Overall; yeah he didn’t do so hot, and it’s really changed my opinion of the character from before this arc (back before I was even posting, God this arc was long). I mean, I still enjoy him; but I do now think less of his moral character, and also now enjoy ripping into how bad he is at his job. Regardless, this is all my thoughts on the matter, so hopefully this is the last time I write meta about Hawks for a while...well except for the post I’ve been meaning to make predicting what the future & the HC has in store for him. (Although if that interests you...get comfy waiting; I’m pretty slow at these things.)

🥺🥺 I NEED more pirate shiggy content in my life i- there's so much you touch upon in the fic that I'd absolutely love to know more about, for example his old ship and more details about his new one- and the dynamics of the crew members whilst they're actually travelling at sea- and just anything else- it is genuinely the best fic I've read in years and I'm obsessed w it 😭💖💕
YES OK THANK YOU
Shiggy’s old ship is the All For One and he inherited her from his mentor/adoptive father/master who was, as you’ve probably guessed, AFO the person. I killed the bitch off cause fuck him lmfao; Shiggy was probs 17 or so when that happened. He was the pirate king prior to Shiggy, cause that’s a natural application from canon. The All For One was this huge fuckoff galleon and Shiggy h a t e d the thing; she required a crew of at least 120 to operate, plus she was enormous and slow and hard to maneuver. He’d have to hire crew every time he wanted to do anything it was awful. So as much as he’s pissed that Commodore!Hawks ends up sinking her, he also gets this cooler prettier faster ship and that’s a plus.
That ship being, obvi, the Decaying Lady. This one’s solidly Shiggy’s ship; she’s a brigantine, and on the smaller side, more the size of a sloop (y’all do NOT care about this shit but I did the research and I refrained from going full Victor Hugo explaining it in the fic so ur getting it here: a sloop was the most common pirating vessel historically, they’re smaller and more maneuverable and easier to man with a smaller crew. Galleons were the huge ships the navy would use—successful pirates with whole fleets would usually have a few. Brigantines are somewhere in the middle of the two, more the size of a sloop but with sails more akin to a galleon (two-masted with a fully square-rugged foremast and at least two sails (a square topsail and a gaff sail mainsail) on the main mast, as opposed to the sloop’s single mast with one headsail and one mainsail), making them faster than sloops and more maneuverable/easier to man than galleons). For best operation, the Decaying Lady needs to be manned by a crew of about 30, but she can be manned by Shiggy’s skeleton crew of 8 just fine, so long as they’re not trying to do any real pirating. She’s very fast and very maneuverable, and the size is definitely what most drew Shiggy to her.
Shiggy’s a pretty strange pirate king to be following AFO; hes got a small crew, but he’s got a huge reputation, and he’s amassed a fair amount of wealth despite his ship and general life being fairly humble. He likes to be in the thick of things, and keep his close-knit group, which is obviously part of his character in canon—and is pretty stark contrast to pirate AFO, who was a behind-the-scenes puppeteer kind of pirate king, staying behind and letting minions do most of the work (again, following his canon counterpart). Their ships are a pretty obvious reflection of those things.
As for the crew! He’s got his skeleton crew of 7 (8 counting himself, and 9 once the reader joins 🙈) which is the league: Dabi, Magne, Kurogiri, Twice, Toga, Spinner, and Mr Compress. Obviously he’s the captain, the role of which is pretty obvious—he’s the leader, makes the decisions, though he’s a very good one and takes his crew’s opinions into account as shown in the fic. Dabi’s the quartermaster, the pirate version of a first mate, in charge of making sure Shiggy’s orders are carried out and general day-to-day tasks as well as disciplining the crew. He’s also the one in charge of hiring crew when needed, though shiggy’s pretty hands-on about that and they often butt heads bc of it. Kurogiri originally held this position, but he ends up taking a step back and becomes the cook after the All For One gets destroyed. He also does the work of a cooper, making sure food is properly stored in barrels. Twice is the boatswain, essentially third in command, in charge of general maintenance of the ship, and leads supply runs. He’s the one who oversees stuff like raising/lowering the anchor or setting the sails. Magne is the master gunner; she learned in the navy. It’s a position that requires a lot of skill, and good gunners are pretty hard to come by for pirates. Mr Compress is the doctor/surgeon; I debated marking this as Kurogiri’s job, but the compress pun was right there lmfao. I think his duties are pretty obvious. Spinner is the master carpenter; where Twice oversees general ship maintenance, Spinner focuses on the structural integrity. And Toga, she’s a bit of a jack-of-all-trades. She basically does whatever the others need her to be doing, and she’s proficient in pretty much all the jobs she might need to do, whether it’s acting as a second doctor for mr compress or hoisting sail with twice. She doesn’t really have an official title, but hired crew know that she’s someone to defer to.
As for the reader, she becomes the sailing master, aka the navigator. That shouldn’t be much of a surprise; i hinted at it with her knowledge of the stars and study of astronavigation. She’s a smart cookie, and navigators are pretty hard to come by for pirates, considering how well trained they have to be.

A lot to talk about this chapter!
Tumblr media
What draws near? Blood-loss? Death? Fainting? I’m probably reading into this too much and Toga’s just talking about passing out.
Edit: In the mangastream translation, she said, “I’ve gotten closer to you”. So it’s her feeling closer to Izuku.
Tumblr media
1) I agree with the IT guy. Fighting at the front lines when you have a remote detonation quirk is such a bad idea, but I do understand that Curious wanted an interview so badly that she risked her life for it.
2) Yeah, yeah. Re-Destro crying. Doesn’t mean anything if you just keep tossing fodders to their death. Brings me back to when the League lost Magne and how far they went for someone who fought alongside them.
From the Heroes who celebrated Kouta’s parent’s acts of heroism that lead to their deaths and endangering Hawks to act as a spy, to Overhaul who actively sacrificed his own subordinates to buy himself time and fuse to grant him power, and now this group... The League of Villains are the ones that embody the power of friendship the most. Wow.
3) Was there any surprise that everything is on camera? I love how they’re like, “No matter what we do, they are the ones who look like the good guys here.” Idk why not think about why you guys seem like the villains when you’re up against a group of actual villains? Hmmm?
Tumblr media
Give this man a break. He’s been through grueling torture and he’s still sane. He’s not at his best, ok?
I wonder if this IT guy has a quirk that has something to do with brains waves and neurons. That would be pretty cool. My second guess is something technology based.
Tumblr media
Poor Spinner hasn’t defeated anyone. Strangely enough, I never saw Dabi attack anyone this and the previous chapters.
He even talks about this later on in the chapter:
Tumblr media
He waited for Shigaraki’s cue to start actively fighting! (Some food for thought for you ShigaDabi fans). I’m still trying to put together what Dabi thinks about the league: On one hand, he’s very distant from the rest of them, in a lone-wolf kind of way, almost like he’s picked apart by the author exclusively to be separated from the rest of the group. Dabi even said he didn’t care about Shigaraki’s past, and won’t help them with Giganto, and he was annoyed when they dragged him into the Liberation Army fight.
But on the other hand, you get him calling Shigaraki Leader, participating in certain operations like the attack on Overhaul’s ambulance and the Training Camp attack. He’s the one in the League trying the hardest to recruit people...
Dabi is still someone very difficult to puzzle out.
Edit: Mangastream translation what he said was “I was never cut out for sparing people”, and that he could start doing so after Shigaraki started killing these people. So less of following orders, and more of finally being free to kill people like he wanted to. It brings out more debate on just what the League is to Dabi, and what it does to his morality.
Tumblr media
We’ve seen many examples of fanatical beliefs in the series. Different ideologies that people believe in and fight for. All For One had a cult-like following. People believed in All Might so much that his retirement is marked as an end of an era. Stain’s last stand rallied up people who share his desire for a true hero society. Overhaul’s underlings would throw their lives away for him because he took them in.
Currently Deku’s “Saving everyone” is a goal the heroes all gather under, while Shigaraki’s “Destroy Everything” is something we see ambiguous reactions to among the League. Is it a strong motive that he can rally people under? Personally, I think he needs to continue developing that creed, but Toga does seem to agree with it.
Tumblr media
Sleepy Shigaraki ~<3! He barely slept in a month, plus his supposed break time was interrupted by the Liberation Army. Honestly surprised he’s still standing and fighting. He can hardly register the mob in front of him.
“It always gets like that when I’m sleepy. Does that mean he’s experienced this in the past? When fighting Gigantomachia maybe? Will we get a flashback to him developing this domino-effect-dusting during the past month?
Edit: Just a generalizing statement I guess. I still want to see if this is a quirk evolution or something he could always do.
Tumblr media
Interesting that Tenko’s face is blacked out. We won’t know if his face is wrinkled, whether he had black hair, and any facial scars. His features are being hidden and I think there’s a reason for that.
“Hana-chan”... Daww his sister has a mole on her right cheek! That’s so adorable (rest in peace ;_;)
“Even though Dad said all that.” Their dad disapproves of something. The leaks say that Tenko wanted to be a hero, and this dialogue is hinting to that. Their dad keeps a photo of Nana and himself in his childhood in his drawer that he kept secret. Hana knows Nana is a hero, and wants to encourage Tenko. What must have happened was that their dad felt bitter for Nana being a hero results in abandoning him, and he doesn’t want Tenko to be a hero.
“It feels so warm and tender. Aah, just why is it...?” 😭  The feeling of love and care is so foreign to Shigaraki now that he just don’t understand why he feels that way. And then the memory just cuts short, depriving him of that feeling, leaving him with the hollowness and rage again.
Tumblr media
Of course he’s in a bad mood now.
Shigaraki’s speed keeps getting brought up by various people, and it’s still unclear if there’s a correlation between that and his decay quirk, like whether his speed increased alongside the strength of the quirk? Just speculation.
At first I was confused since the wall didn’t disintegrate after he grabbed it to flip himself up, but in the next page it was shown disintegrated.
Also, he vomited after having a flashback again. I don’t know if it’s the flashback or throwing up that caused his sudden quirk-chain-reaction, and what he needs to do to use it again. We also don’t know if it’s something new or just something he’s always able to do, since the previous people he killed are not in contact with anybody else so there’s no way of telling if their decaying would spread to anybody else.
I can’t believe how many people thought Shigaraki was drooling rather than vomiting in the leaks XD. You guys are so thirsty over Shiggy fanservice.
Next time! Dabi vs Ice guy! Even though fire obviously melts ice, the rules of Shounen dictates that something’s gonna make this fight more interesting than Dabi curbstoming. The obvious connection between Dabi and Endeavor also proves that this time we’re going to dive into Dabi characterization and possible backstory.

Giran!
@kagerou-okuta , this is for you, thanks for the follow💜
I know I haven't given him much content on here yet, but honestly Giran is so very, very important to the league. Like, MVP, and not just for not selling them out.
He got at least three of their important members, including their second-in-command
We already know he funds Twice, he probably also funds other members
He acts selfish but, like, is he? He really just loves them so much
Aizawa who? Aizawa still plays favorites and lets Bakugo bully Midoriya like it's no biggie. Giran is clearly Best Dad
And that's not even his specific relationships with them. I'm only gonna get into two tonight though oof
Twice
It's been said that Giran made him feel like he had a place to belong
With Jin's very sad life so far, this is a very important thing
Not only does he give Twice a home, if only an emotional safe place, he also buys his suit for him
We know Giran values money, so this is a huge gesture
We know Giran brought Jin to the league, so this is our first example of him bringing one of his strays in and going "make friends"
How long was Giran helping Twice??? I wanna know??? Please???
Jin loves him very much, and it makes my heart happy
Dabi
These are headcanons lol
Giran clearly knows Dabi and Toga when he introduces them to Shiggy
But like
Giran looks at Dabi differently...almost fondly even
I think he may have adopted a teenage Dabi along with Jin
How many strays does he have kept secret from all the others?
Probably funded all his piercings and hairdye since Jin got an expensive suit out of the guy
This would be very important to Dabi too, especially the hairdye...sometimes having the support of someone as you work away from your abuser makes it easier, and I think Giran would be an important support beam in this part of Dabi's life
TLDR, Giran is an underrated saint

I saw that I had this post in my drafts so I decided to finish it. It was supposed to be part 2 to this post, but it ended up mostly being an analysis of All For One’s relationship with Shigaraki. And Shigaraki’s hands.
I wasn’t necessarily trying to write meta, but it just kind of just happened. So if you’re interested in reading this, go right ahead!
1. Debunking The Origin of The Hands
In chapter 222, we find out that Shigaraki's hands belong to his deceased family members.
Tumblr media
However, as I already said here, the hands are uniform. This is especially suspicious considering that Shigaraki had a sister around his age. Wouldn't her hands be smaller than the average adult hand?
Also, why would the hands be left behind if the rest of the body decayed? I mean, what the fuck?? I can’t really argue if the hands were actually decayed or not without knowing the complete mechanics behind Shigaraki’s quirk, but it doesn’t make sense. Anyway, Shiggy’s quirk is something to discuss another day.
Even if the hands were real, there are only three logical ways in which the hands could have been preserved.
The first way, taxidermy, involves attaching skin onto some sort of frame (in this case, the hands). Keep in mind that taxidermy is typically done with animals, and not humans, though. Because Shigaraki's hands are gray and do not appear to be covered with human skin, I think it's safe to rule out this method.
The second technique, embalming, is commonly used for corpses. It seems like a plausible way to preserve the hands at first, but embalmed bodies start to decay after 10 years. Based on his age, Shigaraki owned the hands for over a decade, so the hands would have decomposed already by the start of the manga. Therefore, the hands weren't embalmed either.
The third way is something I just learned about five minutes ago. It's called plastination, a process in which body parts are preserved by replacing water and fat with plastic. This method seems the most reasonable, but the preserving process is ridiculously long, so I don't think the hands were preserved this way either.
Point is, there's no way that the hands that Shigaraki wears actually belong to his family. So why would All For One go through the trouble to make fake hands for Shigaraki?
Well, that question has an obvious answer: to manipulate him.
2. All For One's General Manipulation of Shigaraki
We all know All For One is a dickhead. And we also know that All For One appointed Shigaraki as his successor because of his relation to Nana Shimura. While I cannot say that his relation is the only reason he was picked as All For One’s successor, it’s definitely the biggest reason.
(Two other speculated reasons include Shigaraki’s resemblance to the original One For All user, and the fact that Shigaraki was “born twisted”. Based on what we know post-222, I doubt that Shigaraki was “twisted” before he met All For One. Also, I don’t think we know enough about All For One’s brother to compare him to Shigaraki.)
*Editing note: As I was reading, I noticed that Shigaraki’s behavior in the Kamino arc makes a lot more sense when taken in context with Chapter 222. I reference Kamino a lot in this because of that.*
The Kamino arc explains a lot of All For One’s motivations for manipulating Shigaraki. For instance, All For One states that he wanted to corrupt the Shimura bloodline to get back at All Might. All For One does this to emotionally wound his rival, knowing that All Might would see Shigaraki’s turn to villainy as his fault.
Tumblr media
As All For One’s successor, Shigaraki is tasked with defeating the current One For All user. By making All Might feel responsible for Shigaraki’s evil acts, All Might will be reluctant to face off against him in the future. Of course, this would make it easier for Shigaraki to kill All Might, and thus succeed in completing what All For One started.
Now we know why All For One manipulated Shigaraki, but we don’t know how.
Well, it is a known fact that All For One is a master manipulator, as said by All Might here:
Tumblr media
After being alive for so long, let’s just say that All For One knows how to use people to his advantage. He knows how to break someone, and reform them into something that is useful to him.
Let’s go over how All For One was able to break Shigaraki.
First, I’m going to go ahead and assume that All For One made Shigaraki kill his family. I think it’s obvious that he planned the event because otherwise, it would have been a bit too convenient for him.
The following information is a short summary of chapter 222.
The aftermath of his family’s death leaves Shigaraki emotionally vulnerable and without anyone to care for him. He’s young, scared, confused, and presented with a problem that All For One has a solution to; Shigaraki is in need of a hero, and All For One is willing to act as his savior. But, All For One did not rescue Shigaraki to save him. He purposefully planned to kill off the Shimura family in order to acquire Shigaraki.
Later, All For One presents the hands to Shigaraki in order to make him feel remorseful. Disgusted even, with himself. The hands trigger a flashback, and Shigaraki pukes as a result. Shigaraki’s extreme response to his memories makes me believe that All For One either messed with his memories or conditioned him to react negatively to the hands. I think the first option is more likely, and that the second option is a byproduct of it.
Anyway, the next panel is important in discussing All For One’s manipulation of Shigaraki.
Tumblr media
All For One takes a kid reeling from a traumatic experience... and tells him how to channel his feelings of regret, sorrow, anger, etc., into something useful for him. Hmm, this sounds familiar. It’s exactly what All Might said All For One does to manipulate people. He destroys them (in Shigaraki’s case, emotionally), robs them (of a family), uses them (to continue his reign of terror), and dominates them (by making Shigaraki dependent on him).
Speaking of dependence, Shigaraki is shown to be very attached to All For One at the beginning of the manga. This is especially unsettling considering that Shigaraki mostly communicates with All For One through indirect means. I’ll go more in-depth with that idea under my next heading.
Before I move into my next point, you know how All For One said he was going to teach Shigaraki “where to direct those raging emotions”? He sure as hell did.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In fact, I think All For One did it a bit too well.
3. All For One’s Manipulation: Hands Edition
The hands make Shigaraki feel at peace and simultaneously sick to his stomach. That’s not worrying at all!
Tumblr media
He feels nauseous because he remembers what he did to his family, but he also feels calm because the hands remind him of All For One.
Let me elaborate.
When All For One gave Shigaraki the hands, he was providing his successor with something to find relief in. As little Shigaraki reached out towards the hands, he did so to feel comforted by them. The hands’ effect on Shigaraki is similar to All For One’s gesture here:
Tumblr media
All For One makes Shigaraki feel as if someone cares about him. Physical affection is something that is foreign to Shigaraki, and the only traces he gets of it are from All For One. However, All For One doesn’t want Shigaraki to feel loved; he wants Shigaraki to feel isolated and resentful. In order to achieve this, All For One distances himself from his successor, and leaves Shigaraki with nothing but the hands in his wake.
*Editing note: forgot to mention this, but All For One’s distancing was strategetic. The period between All For One taking Shigaraki in and the beginning of the manga is mostly unknown, but there are still assumptions that can be made about it.
The first major distancing probably occurred when All For One was mortally wounded by All Might. Seeing All For One in a critical state would make Shigaraki feel angry towards whoever hurt his master, thus fuelling his hatred for the Symbol of Peace. The second major distancing would be when All For One was put in Tartarus. I know it doesn’t seem planned, but All For One knew exactly what he was doing. Both instances of forced distancing were caused by All Might. Think about it. How would Shigaraki would react to the man who has kept his savior away from him? Not positively, that’s for sure.
Although the major distancing wasn’t necessarily intentional, it still helped All For One shape Shigaraki into a villain. Instances of minor distancing were likely intentional, but they’re either undisclosed to us, or mostly left to us to infer. The best example I could give of this is All For One’s roundabout way of communicating with Shigaraki.*
As a result, Shigaraki finds himself emotionally attached to the hands. After all, they’re all he has left of his family, and they are also physically the closest that Shigaraki can get to feeling All For One’s “love” after he distances himself.
Twisted, I know. Now, All For One still directly influences Shigaraki without being in contact with him. Take this example from chapter 21:

All For One tends to communicate with Shigaraki through electronic devices. There’s only one instance I can recall where All For One is in the same room as Shigaraki, and that’s during the Sports Festival arc. Or Kamino, but I’m not counting that because their encounter wasn’t deliberate.
The lack of direct communication between All For One and Shigaraki only adds to the growing divide between them. Shigaraki becomes more secluded, and, without proper guidance, he develops into a hateful person. But that’s exactly what All For One wanted, as explained here:

I find it interesting that the translation says that All For One has gone to a place that Shigaraki’s “hands can’t reach”. I don’t know, the constant hand references make me think that I’m on to something here lol.
Shigaraki as a recluse, for the most part, is only affected by All For One’s teachings. He has learned to accept distance in physical, mental, social, and emotional forms, to the point that he shows little interest in connecting with others.
His detachment (specifically emotionally) is revealed through his hands. He doesn’t understand his own emotions and All For One’s motives, and he’s unable to relate to society as a whole. So, he clings onto the one thing he does know: the rage and despair All For One planted into his heart.
An example of this is when All For One is jailed after the end of the Kamino arc. You know what Shigaraki does immediately after losing his master?

He hugs his hands, just like he did when he first received them.
He’s grasping onto the idea of something unachievable; that is, closeness to All For One when he desires guidance. Shigaraki needs All For One’s advice in order to pilot his own goals, because without All For One, who exactly is he?
As I was saying, Shigaraki does not completely understand himself or All For One (as shown below).

So he’s unable to coherently express his motives for being a villain (as shown in the rest of chapter 69). Deep down, I don’t think he has any profound reasons except for the false ones All For One rooted in him.
Continuing, the hands have made fewer and fewer appearances as of late. This indicates that Shigaraki is starting to understand who he is, what kind of person All For One truly is, and the genuine nature of society.
Since the My Villain Academia arc, Shigaraki usually only wears the hands in combat because that’s when he feels it’s necessary to channel his inner rage. After all, he was taught to direct his bad feelings towards his enemies, regardless of who the enemy is.
Shigaraki doesn’t wear the hands around the League because he feels like he can be himself around them (hence, he felt comfortable telling them about his past). He wants to feel close to his friends allies, so he’s attempting to limit the distance between him and the League. And I think that’s great! He is freeing himself from All For One’s brainwashing because he is growing as a person and learning more about himself. He has a small group of people who he can relate to and confide in, and he’s slowly uncovering the truth about his past.
He’s healing his emotional wounds!
However, I have no idea what this could mean for Shigaraki in the future. Will he overcome his trauma? Or will he continue to wield his trauma as a weapon? I have no idea, but hopefully, we find out soon enough.
4. A Quick Summary
Shigaraki’s hands are important in understanding his character. Besides being physical reminders of Shigaraki’s past life, they also represent Shigaraki’s connection to All For One. The less Shigaraki wears them, the weaker All For One’s influence is over him.
This ended up being long, and honestly, I don’t know why I wrote so much. But if you happened to read the entire thing, feel free to comment on anything I brought up in this post. I could literally talk about Shigaraki all day (as you can already tell), so I’d love to discuss anything Shiggy related with y’all!
