My roman empire is that Ares can be as protective and caring towards his family as much as he wants and it will almost never be reciprocated. He went out his way to fight giants that were way too powerful for him to fight alone, but he did it anyway to protect his mom and his sister.

And what does he get in result? Forgotten for a year and 3 months. In some interpretations he was literally tortured and SA’d.

Even then, he’s a incredible father to his kids, and even goes out his way to kill the man who r@ped his daughter.

He gets put to trial, the first time any god has been put to trial for killing someone, because he was trying to protect his daughter.

He gets injured by Athena and runs to his father, but only gets ridiculed and insulted. When Artemis goes to Zeus after getting injured, she gets comforted.

Zeus loves Apollo so much more then Ares, yet Apollo is the one who went against Zeus’ word the most, even outright betraying him and attempting to steal his throne. ALONG with Zeus’ other child Athena.

Has Ares ever done any of that? Nope.

My roman empire is that everyone hates the way he acts, but they never understand WHY hes the way he is. They make fun of him, but will neve recognize the good things he does.

random thing i noticed in aa4

so you know how in the detention center if you look at the camera and the guard you normally get some flavor text about how (usually the defendant) is acting?

well i tried to do that in aa4 and. thats not how it is there. in fact most of the flavor text seems kinda... paranoid? idk if thats the right word. heres the text for case 2 (the first time you can see it) to show you what i mean

-"That security camera is looking at me. I wonder if they tape all of this."

-"A security guard. He stands here, watching this room. I have no idea if he's listening to us talk."

i thought that was kind of weird at first, like isn't apollos whole thing noticing how people are acting? why isnt it like nick's?

but i think i prefer these bits of dialogue because they show his personality more. he's an anxious guy. but over the course of the game these bits of dialogue get slightly less paranoid. here's them in case 3:

-"That security camera is looking at me. Why do I feel this sudden urge to make a silly face?"

-"His eyes when he looks at Machi are gentle. Maybe he has a kid the same age"

He's started to calm down a bit, and now is actually looking at what the guard is doing. He still thinks the camera is looking at him, but instead of wondering if he's being filmed, he wants to make a silly face. proof trucy is a good influence.

and here's case 4:

-"The security camera stares down from the ceiling, all-seeing, unblinking. Not that I'm nervous or anything."

-"The same old security guard is glaring at us. ...He winked. Maybe he's not such a bad guy after all."

At first apollo thinks the guard is glaring at him. And then he realized the guard's not upset with him. he's being nice, if anything. he winks. The security camera dialogue shows how even though he's right, the camera is looking at him, it's also looking at everyone else. He's still nervous, because of course he is, he's apollo. But his outlook's changed a little. not everything is against him.

• Nico occasionally will start talking in Italian if he’s sleepy enough OR if he when he’s angry

• Will glows when seeing people he likes

• Percy occasionally just give Annabeth random underwater items (Coral, Seaweed, sponges etc) that he finds

Can confirm the territorial stuff. I got the books mixed up and read Jason's first and I hated percy so much for no reason at first. Like who is this guy and why wont they shut up about him.

I don't think its helped either that it takes time to get used to a new protagonist and we just didn't spend that much time with Jason the heroes of olympus books each had multiple pov characters so unlike the original percy Jackson series we don't have that connection like if we spent the whole books from just one person's perspective

imagine being someone at new rome university and not knowing percy is the same guy as “percy jackson, son of poseidon, two-time hero of olympus, former praetor” because the thought doesn’t even cross your mind. like… he’s percy. he’s a total frat boy. on a normal night, he walks into a party, refers to everyone as bro or dude, socializes with every living (and not-living) person in the room, makes at least 50 sarcastic comments, plays 12 rounds of beer pong, drinks way too much, and then skates around campus on his skateboard yelling “I LOVE NEW YORK” (which makes no sense, because they’re in california) until someone calls his girlfriend to come get him.

and then one day there’s an attack, and frat boy percy is all of a sudden a fighting machine. he’s yelling battle cries alongside the praetors frank zhang and hazel levesque as they lead everyone into battle. (why is he with the praetors? and why…. why in the world do the praetors seem to be following his lead?) his sword slashes through armies of monsters faster than you’ve ever seen. he’s controlling the entire river surrounding the camp, creating huge waves as tall as skyscrapers that crash down all around him, wiping out monsters and causing mass destruction to his enemies’ ranks. the sky is suddenly dark above you, ice-cold water droplets are slashing through the air, and the wind is blowing so aggressively that it’s making it hard to stand up steadily. because he’s somehow created a hurricane.

and he looks terrifying. you can feel the power radiating off of him. he’s like a god. or maybe a monster. it’s hard to tell. you’re a little scared of him, to be honest. but also in total awe, because it’s extraordinary. he’s extraordinary.

Unpopular Opinion about Zeus' Parenting

He was in NO WAY a good father to Ares. "But Ares was violent! Ares was embarrassing!" ARES is the god of WAR, he NEEDS to be violent. When other gods like Athena or Apollo do something violent, Zeus all of the sudden doesn't mind it? Or gives a little slap on the rest? He is NOT a good father. You are supposed to love your kids. If anything, Ares' VIOLENCE and ANGER came from the fact that both of his parents has hated him from the start. I'd be pretty angry too if I grew with parents who didn't even want me. He's humiliated and belittled constantly, no shit he's violent. I'd be violent to. If Apollo was in Ares' position, Apollo probably would be violent as hell too.

You can understand that Zeus being a "bad" god is a stupid claim, while also recognizing that he has flaws.

It ALSO doesn't help that Ares has done nothing to Zeus to deserve this treatment, in comparison to Athena and Apollo who BOTH have betrayed and attempted to usurp Zeus' throne.
