Bruce wrote character profiles for each of the Gotham Knights batkids in game and they are all pretty basic 1-2 paragraph blurbs for obvious reasons, but this bit in Red Hood’s lands like a punch. No detail, no context, no mention even of the man who killed him. And I am sure that in many other Batman media this is not the case but gosh even the idea that the official Bat report of Jason’s death is just Bruce’s bottom line, which is entirely unfair to himself and especially to Jason: “Batman failed. Jason was murdered.”

I never want to discourage anyone from commenting on fanfics that they enjoy when they want to share their appreciation with fanfic authors.
At the same time, I cannot convey how discouraging it is to me, as an author, to get comments on years-old fanfic that basically do nothing but tell me that I'm doing storytelling wrong. I have one story in particular where the character has a limited point of view and interprets a common phenomenon differently than many people who live in our real world interpret it. But this is intentional! It's an illustration of the character's thinking and point of view. But instead of people trusting that I might know what I'm doing, I *to this day* get comments from people who have never left a nice word on my fanfic about "well, apparently you don't know this, but actually, that's not the way the world works." And like, if they kept reading the story, maybe they would realize that the decision was intentional? But no, they feel the need to make the comment right off the bat. I mean, just *asking* me if the decision was intentional instead of telling me that I'm wrong would be an improvement. It would give me a chance to clarify, and if there is actually something in my writing I could change to make it clear that this is the character's point of view and not intended to be a representation of the real world, we could have that discussion and maybe I would improve as a writer in the future. But instead I get these discouraging "corrections" that really don't leave a lot of room for dialogue--because at this point I've gotten so tired of them that I just don't approve the comments. And a thing that could have become a dialogue and perhaps even a fandom friendship gets aborted right off the bat, because (even if it wasn't meant that way) it comes across as an intentionally bad-faith reading and, honestly, I don't want to form community with people who read things in bad faith.
(Now, if I already know you and you say something like this, I might find it discouraging but I will also know you're not acting in bad faith, so we can recover from it. But if you just randomly alight on people's fanfic to tell them they're doing it wrong, you're not going to get any sense of community out of fandom.)
On another note, this might be a good reason for well intentioned commenters to keep commenting on old fanfic! Because at this point I would say the majority of comments I get on that old fanfic are "correction" ones. Since the fanfic still gets kudos, I assume there are people still reading it and enjoying it, but I hear less from them. So if nothing else, leaving a kind comment, even something as little as a ❤️, on an old fanfic can help buffer authors against the negative comments they may continue to receive on that fic.
(And just because you don't see any negative comments in the comment section doesn't mean they aren't receiving them. On AO3 and many other platforms, authors can delete or screen out comments--so they could have received them but aren't letting them show up in their comments section.)

Hi, Miss Raven! What're your thoughts on the new characters' designs and the new cards we're getting?
[You can see the designs for the Halloween 2023 cards and other related TWST news here!]
Tumblr media
I'll post my general thoughts below! I unfortunately don't know enough about Pinocchio myself to point out all the little easter eggs in their outfits, so I'll leave that to those who are more knowledgeable than me.
***Spoilers below the cut!!***
Regarding the NRC boys' looks overall, I think it's a very fun theme and very fitting for the location of the event. I like that they all still wear masks, just in a different context than in Glorious Masquerade. One thing I did notice is that the masks seem... same-y? Like they all resemble thick tree roots or something like that. So maybe they aren't masks at all, but they're associated with whatever the conflict in the story is. (I previously suggested mind control or the loss of consciousness, so maybe the "roots" play into that???) You can see the marionette theme Yana was going for, as well as some design elements from Black Butler's circus arc, very clearly. The poses for each of the boys, even the R cards, are extremely dynamic and imply a strong sense of movement. The ribbons are such a simple detail that contributes a lot to this sense of whimsy and flow.
Some comments I have on specific designs and poses:
Suspenders are so... Trey 💀 THERE'S REALLY NOTHING ELSE FOR ME TO ADD HERE, THEY JUST SUIT HIM
I like it when Trey makes these kind of slightly sus but plausibly deniable faces... He should make more of them...
I can't see the front of Jack's outfit that well, so I don't know if I can fully comment on it??? But I can see his. Like. Physique... coming through... That chest to waist ratio/j
Seeing Jack's tail like that kinda weirds me out. I think that's the first time we've gotten a "full" view of how the tails look coming out of the pants??? So maybe I'll get more used to it with time...
J WORD MY BELOVED dghgqwktvwukdviu1vdutw1513FR7vuofOTVUofvfaafvfyivs.,bk;mobsdb;ibuafetvuqoffSEythTOTqebivfguovqnafCUtuiUIEtt please ignore my bias 🤡 The way his top hat is angled and how there's a dark blue ribbon around him... It vaguely looks like he's trying to pass as Crowley, LOL
I like how his undershirt is frilled and how he has that sash at his waist it reminds me of the genderbent design for my TWST OC! The fact that both he and Floyd have the eel emblem that resembles a heart is also really cute~
Lilis is my favorite design of the R cards!! There's a very good distribution of ruffles throughout the look, and his knotted skirts fit well with his personal flair.
I'm not a huge fan of the style of hat Cater's wearing (sorry to all the Cay-kun stans out there), but I can appreciate his look. His dress appears more militant than Trey's, and his posing is certainly more aggressive--it's nice to see him in this new light.
FHIBBAILAIBASIADIHBLBUDB EVERY TIME I SEE L*ONA NOW I'M GOING TO THINK OF THE ONE REBLOG I SAW THAT SAID "of course leona has his tits out again" BECAUSE THEY'RE RIGHT, HE'S LITERALLY THE GIRLIE THAT DRESSES SLUTTY ON HALLOWEEN AND SOMEHOW NEVER GETS COLD 😭 You go, king... Live your best life!!
Love L*ona-san’s new hairstyle here!! 👀
The way Floyd is posed reminds me of those people that walk around on stilts. I think I much prefer the coloration on Floyd's outfit than on Jade's, but I prefer Floyd's jacket to Jade's. I think Floyd's the best of the SR designs!
Shockingly, Vil's look doesn't stand out to me that much??? I enjoy his sash, but I don't immediately pick up on anything in his illustration that catches my eye.
His pose resembles that of a ballerina, which just makes me think about the time he assigned Epel and Deuce extra (ballet) dance lessons in book 5 ajdbhasivldsadued
Of the SSRs, Ace is definitely my favorite one. He just looks so dramatic soaking up that spotlight and trying to look cool while doing it... Bro's 100% thinking, "heheheheh, I'm SO awesome :))" in his head.
Ace's design also reminds me a lot of Jack Hearts (from Disney Villain Recruiters). Not sure if it was intentional or not, but I'm definitely super into it!
HHNNNNNGNGHGHHGHGNGNGHHGHGHGHGHHHHH I WANNA BITE HIS HEAD OFF AND BULLY HIM SO BAD, I WANNA WIPE THAT SMIRK OF FHIS DUMB FACEe Am I seriously about to revert back to my Brat Loving era for Trappola... Maybe so...
I was pretty much expecting a SSR Ace (because he's a trickster with a brother that works in an amusement park) and Ortho (literally a robot that became a real boy), but Kalim took me by surprise. In hindsight, I guess it makes sense though...? Kalim has a similar immature vibe as the other two (plus I do remember there being this one scene in Aladdin where the Sultan was dressed like a jester that was being maneuvered on puppet strings).
It's great that Kalim gets to be a little out of his usual element and make darker, more mysterious expressions like what we see in his new illustration. I'm not sure if I entirely agree with how he's dressed (the yellow jacket is WAY too bright), but I love his his coattails (???) trail behind him in waves.
OR-KUN MY SON 😭😭😭 As is the case with all of his gears, I adore how the devs creatively adapted clothing into metal parts for Ortho! The half-caplet is easily the best part of the whole look for me (the pattern on it reminds me of stars falling down)--and because Ortho has a smaller stature, the type of hat he's wearing isn't as offputting; it actually looks very cute on him.
ANYWAY, VERY HAPPY THAT ORTHO GETS TO HAVE A HALLOWEEN SSR TO MATCH HIS BROTHER'S HALLOWEEN SSR FROM LAST YEAR... They match!!!
... Is that the fucking cricket on Ortho’s cape... and the goldfish on Kalim’s scarf… AND THE CAT ON ACE’S WAIST… What does this meeeean 🤡
And now for my thoughts on the two new boys!! Honestly?? I don't actually have much to comment on in this regard because I try to reserve my judgment of characters until I've actually seen them in action. I haven't seen Pinocchio either, so I don't have a strong basis for what their personalities would be like based on their original Disney counterpart. I only vaguely understand that Honest John and Gideon trick children into visiting Pleasure Island... That's it, that's the full extent of my knowledge on that pair. I don't have any other expectations going in other than "yeah, these two are going to swindle me".
Gidel looks like a mix of Cheka and Ruggie to me (because of the hair and the eye shape). He seems like he’ll be the other guy’s goon, similar to how Jade and Floyd/Ruggie follow Azul/Leona. Nothing else for me to add, Gidel seems alright… Just a silly lil’ guy!
I have more… mixed thoughts on Ferro. One one hand, he looks like the exact kind of shady bitch I’d love. (You know, the ones that smile and lie and manipulate and drive a knife into your back and—LOOK, HE’S VERY J WORD CORE) On the other hand, I’m beating back the “you like cat/dog boys” allegations from my friends, so 💀 I can’t give in so easily/j
Looks-wise, Ferro’s iteration of the rat tail hair is not as ugly to me as Malleus’s is. (I think it’s because it looks more windswept!) I also really like how he dresses—very dapper 😌 and he can pull off green eyeshadow well!
I’m wondering how they’ll make Ferro different than the other con artists we’ve seen so far *eyes Octavinelle* but I’m keeping my hopes up since the devs did a good job remixing the “I have a dead brother and I feel immense guilt about it” backstory for Rollo (when Idia had a similar one). Looking forward to that~
I’m sure my thoughts will chance once I actually get to see them in the event! ^^ I’ll keep you posted. For now, I’ll keep cautious. (Actually, this fan art basically summarizes my current feelings on the two! I’m Rollo/j)

Guardians 3 thought dump
Aaaah i actually liked an MCU movie for once
The Guardians were kind of the perfect team to go up against that type of villain, a team thats taken two movies to learn and are still in some ways learning that their differences and flaws are what makes them a family, up against someone who sees those flaws as a failure to be discarded. All of the Guardians spend a lot of time across all three films trying to escape how others view them, so this antagonist really feels like the perfect choice to culminate the trilogy
Also man the russos took a fat wet shit all over gamoras arc and james gunn still managed to salvage it and make it work, I was fucking terrified the whole movie that they were gonna end up together when thats literally impossible with this gamora, But gamora calls out quill immediately in this, and tells him thats shes not that person he so desperately wants. Peter still at least has the arc that he was meant to have regardless of gamoras fridging, where he needed to realize that hes projecting what he needs from other people onto those people, especially gamora. The movie still hints that they COULD end up being together, they just both need to spend time becoming more actualized versions of themselves. And peter needs to resolve more of his emotional baggage and sexism.
Its funny because from the way 2 ended its really obvious that gunn had planned for them to be together in 3 but that basically got ruined when she got tossed into the infinity stone pit. :/ i’m glad gunn was smart enough to realize that trying to redo 2 movies worth of relationship buildup across one movie was a bad idea
Lets see what else
Oh, hey Nathan fillion, long time no see! I’m glad you finally got to be in a story about a ragtag found family in space that didn’t end up getting canned, and i think the fight you did in the building that looked like a middle school science textbook illustration rocked, 10/10 keep rocking the Michelin man fit
I like that Adam Warlock is a big dumb idiot man that carries a pet around and listens to king crimson because its super obvious gunn had no clue what to do with him but had to have him there because the mcu continues to be an ever expanding nightmare mess. 10/10 no notes
Obviously the i am groot reveal was cute, and also a kind of cycle break that didn’t feel forced or like it had extra gravitas added to it, the reveal that the audience is part of the family now just gets to be a simple little moment
I love that nebula gets to be relatively more relaxed in this movie on the whole, she honestly deserves it, let her sip her lil sodie pop.
I loved Draxs lil dad moment in the third act as well, and how it ends up forcing nebula to learn that emotional intelligence is just as vital to have a practical intelligence. Up until that point she really underestimated him and a lot of the rest of the team because she had been taught by thanos a lot of the same things our villain believed, that theres only one kind of way to be, and that only perfection and results matter. She ends up learning through the guardians and drax that we each of our own individual strengths and perceived flaws, and that real perfection is in the culmination of those forces in our lives. I thought it was nice :)
The last thing i can think of is that I liked how a series defined musically by track from the 70’s and 80’s ends off with a track from the 2000’s. A way of communicating subtly our characters aren’t trapped in their past anymore. Great stuff
Anyways thats what i got atm, if you stumbled on this and are wanting more mcu stuff, sorry to disappoint, this is prolly the last mcu thing i’m checking in for unless something reveals itself to be more interesting in the future. I wanna try and talk more about other things tho, so maybe you will like those posts!
Testing this out

Angelic Playlist Analysis
Midnight Rain
Alright I've accepted I've already lost my mind this fine Good Omens Season 3 Confirmation Day, so I may as well start posting unhinged ineffables' playlist analysis.
I think Midnight Rain is very much illustrating Aziraphale's point of view, rather than Crowley being 'midnight rain' as aesthetics would imply. The first verse describes the narrator's hometown with quite unwelcoming imagery, describing the people there as 'big pretenders', 'but to some it was paradise'. Big Heaven energy. But the narrator's love interest is described quite in contrast to this, seeming too 'nice' compared to that hometown. Big Crowley energy.
Tumblr media
Likewise, the chorus seems to reflect their respective stances during the Final Fifteen, with Crowley wanting their 'comfortable' life to stay the same, but finally being open about their relationship to each other. Aziraphale wanted more than that - he didn't want to throw away his shot at having the power and influence ('making his own name') he felt was required to make a real difference.
Tumblr media
And then we have the outro, which I feel is the part that really conveys the emotion behind the song.
'Sometimes we all get just what we wanted' - this was the choice Aziraphale made. He wanted to take up the Supreme Archangel post, he wanted to make a difference, even more deeply than he wanted to live safely, together, with Crowley. And indeed, as long as Aziraphale is in Heaven, they won't ever see each other - and Crowley may well only hear about Aziraphale through the grapevine related to his activities as Supreme Archangel ('he never thinks of me, except for when I'm on TV').
Likewise, Aziraphale will be so busy with his various Armageddon-related plots that he likely won't have all that much time to spend thinking about Crowley - but in those quiet moments alone he won't be able to stop his thoughts drifting in his direction ('I never think of him, except on midnights like this).
And this part of the song is so heavy with emotion. The repetition of 'what we wanted, just what we wanted' has always felt to me like the narrator is trying to convince themselves that this is what I wanted, right? Similarly, the repetition of 'some kind of haunted' gives the feeling that these feelings of doubt/regret/wistfulness just keep on coming back. To me, this really feels like Aziraphale alone in Heaven, wrestling with his decisions, trying desperately to come to terms with his heartbreak.
Tumblr media
Et voilà! I really do feel like Crowley here is the 'sunshine'. By the end of Season 2, he is really embracing the kindness he has pushed down for so long, and is finally openly admitting the soft comfortable life he Would Like To Spend with Aziraphale. Aziraphale, however, feels it is right to face the darker, colder parts of existence in returning to Heaven and confronting the reality of Armageddon 2.0. He is 'midnight rain'.
It's a song of pain, regret, separation. You can feel the distance, the loneliness. But, hey, we all know that sunshine and rain have a beautiful tendency to come together and make a rainbow.

The Fiddler Went Down to Faerûn
Chapter 1: Johnny's Arrival
Chapter Text
"Four, three, two, one—" Johnny opened his eyes, expecting to see the near-empty side parking lot of the local grocery mart, but instead of cracked tarmac and gravel, his boots tapped on cobbled stones as he took a shocked few steps back.
"Ma'am?" He called out, searching around himself. Behind, he saw a gruff-looking man, who quickly averted his eyes and continued on his way down a separate, cobbled path. The 'voodoo' woman was nowhere to be seen.
Johnny figured it was early morning or late afternoon, telling by the angle of the sun. He readjusted his instrument case on his shoulder and started toward the sound of a crowd.
Tall grass blocked his view for a good hundred yards before Johnny stepped out of the brush and could look down on a bustling little town. He gave a low whistle. That lady hadn't been lying. He'd been sure she was taking him for a ride, but whatever she'd done had worked. He just hoped it was worth the money he'd given her for her 'spell'.
Johnny continued down the cobble path. He'd seen paths like that in movies, like them old French ones his Nana liked. Looking at the buildings as he drew near, he supposed it was possible he was somewhere in Europe. He'd never been outside of the States before, not even to Mexico. Really, other than a short trip a little ways into Florida, he'd never left Georgia. Never'd needed to.
Europe was nice -- if a little smelly. Johnny wrinkled his nose. He'd mucked out plenty 'a barns, but something about the smell struck him as a little more 'outhousey' than 'barny'. It wasn't unbearable, though he worried for a moment as to whether Europe had flushing toilets. It was nearly the 80's, so he figured they'd have to by now. And it wasn’t that he had a problem using an outhouse – his Nana and Papa had one out at their cabin. He’d also been out camping and fishing enough times to be familiar with doing his business as God intended out in nature – but in a city he didn’t figure that was a good idea.
As he walked, now in the midst of the odd little houses and stacked buildings, people were looking at him quite odd. He waved at a few, but they rarely returned the gesture, instead looking almost offended.
Johnny pulled his ballcap down tighter and lowered his eyes. Europeans were a bit different. Not only their behavior, but he could hear a whole slew of conversations happening around him and hardly understood a word of any of it. They also looked odd, which he really hadn’t expected. He just figured they’d look more or less like Americans.
Most were pretty regular, other than their clothes that made them look like they’d stepped right out the pages of a Charles Dickens’ story, but some were tall with pointed ears, and others were half the size of a normal person despite their otherwise looking and sounding like adults.
Maybe the Hapsburgs weren’t as unique a case as he’d been led to believe—
His mother’d taught him that if it weren’t something that could be fixed in fifteen minutes, and wasn’t hurtin’ nobody nohow, to keep his trap shut, and so that’s what Johnny did. He continued to offer kind smiles if anyone met his gaze but didn’t go out of his way especially to engage with anyone.
The weather was nice. Warm, but not too hot, and the air was drier than he was used to. Even as he stepped out onto a boardwalk, lined on either side with buildings despite being suspended over some body of water, it wasn’t too humid.
He figured he must be in England. He’d seen an old illustration of London Bridge in school. It, too, had homes and shops spanning it on either side. And, the accents were right, as far as his unaccustomed ears could tell. That would also explain the few people he’d seen dressed up like hulking lizards – this must have been some kind of cultural festival, like a ‘Ren Faire’
That would be exciting. Though he was on a bit of a mission, it was self-imposed, so he could take the time to catch a jousting tournament if he could or see some soldiers in a reenactment. He’d seen a few Civil War reenactments – but knights were definitely cooler.
Johnny sauntered up to a friendly-looking man that had been trying to sell fresh produce, it seemed, to passers-by, speaking English. “Howdy – erm – mate,” he tipped the bill of his hat some. He’d never ‘a thought of a man as ‘beautiful’ before, but there wasn’t much different a way to describe him – other than his Hapsburg ears, which Johnny did his best not to stare at.
“Hello, my fine—” the beautiful man turned his attention to Johnny, and his friendly smile became a slight frown. “—ly dressed fellow.” He reached out with a hand and gingerly pinched a wrinkle in Johnny’s t-shirt, his too-wide eyes even wider now with surprise.
Johnny took a step back, laughing politely to try and mask his discomfort at the stranger’s grabbing and clear sarcasm at his appearance. “Yea, sorry about that. I was just buckin’ some bales before I ran into town, and my truck’s still a bit dusty from – well – I haven’t had a chance to wash up yet.
“I didn’t know this’d be a whole thing.” He looked around at the other people bustling about the narrow street.
“You are – an interesting character,” the Englishman said. “I’m sure I haven’t seen you before?”
“No, sir,” Johnny took the man’s still somewhat extended hand and gave him a firm shake. “M’name’s Johnny. I’m from Georgia, USA.
“I was actually hopin’ you’d know of somewhere I could grab a bite? Maybe a Coke?”
The Englishman said nothing and maybe even looked a little offended.
Johnny chuckled again to try and keep the mood light. “Sorry, I don’t know the local ‘lingo’. Is there somewhere I can buy some dinner? It’s gettin’ kinda late, so maybe a hotel?”
“Food and drink?” He pointed over Johnny’s shoulder. “There, and a bed, too – if that’s what you were asking.”
“Thank you kindly, sir.” Johnny tapped his fingers to the bill of his hat again and turned, crossing the narrow street. A wooden sign hung out front of the wooden, shiplap building, but he couldn’t read the squiggly text. He was pretty sure that American English and – well – English English used the same alphabet – but maybe not.
The interior was quite dark and it took a moment for Johnny’s eyes to adjust. There were a few people around, sitting at tables or standing near one another in quiet conversation. A woman stood nearby behind a counter with hair that could have made even Dolly jealous.
“I’m guessin’ this here’s a ‘pub’?” Johnny put an arm on the counter and gave the woman a polite smile.
“A weary traveler, busted and bruised. You come for sustenance. No – decadence.”
“I don’t know much about decadence, ma’am. I was just hopin’ for a Coke – Pepsi’d be alright. An’ I’m not sure what folks here tend to eat, but a sandwich’d be good, if you’ve got one.”
Her eyes filled with the same sort of confusion as the beautiful man’s had, and Johnny was at a loss.

I’m currently at Episode 22 of Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans: Urdr Hunt, I’ve got about two episodes left and since it seems to be a two-episode finale kind of deal, I figured I’d take a break and note down some thoughts up till now, then maybe do another post after the finale. Though I haven’t really arranged these, so I’m probably just gonna ramble.
*The following contains spoilers for episodes 1-22 of Gundam Urdr Hunt*
I’m liking a lot of the Mobile Suit Designs, Gundam and Grunt. Plus, it’s nice to see old favourites again, like the Grimgerde and Hyakuren. However, I do feel like some could be better utilised - The Asmodeus is a cool design, and it works as a lancer to the Hajiroboshi, I just feel like it could have been used more.
Similarly, is is odd how a lot of the major threats are lead-from-the-front characters, since obviously they have to function as bosses. I dunno, it’s just strange compared to all the non-action opponents from the original series.
I really enjoyed Range and Katya’s inclusion as characters, since they’re just sitting there providing a good general basis of what the average citizen of Post Disaster knows - Katya knows a lot of insider knowledge of Gjallarhorn for example, which the others remark on regularly. While Range is sceptical of the existence of mobile armours and views the Asmoday as just a particularly strong mobile suit. So they provide different ends of the same spectrum, I suppose.
I like how each of the maids/guides has their own personality, and I like seeing how they interact with each of their charges. But I do wish we saw more of them. Part of its because they feel like they have that potential to shine very well, and it’s also quite a large cast, so not everyone gets an equal share. I also found it interesting that they were all stated to have been “bought”, so they’re all former Human Debris. Unfortunately, Parstai (blue, with Foundling) is the only one it really comes up with, but presumably the others had full and interesting lives beforehand. You get hints of it with Batch and Tagging (the two that go with Cyclase), with Tagging being an excellent mobile suit pilot, and Batch having experience in ship command and a cautious bearing, but we know very little of the others prior lives.
I didn’t expect to vibe with the Zan Brothers as much as I did, that was weird.
Kouzou Mendou’s pretty rad. A genuine Archeologist, hoping to reveal the causes behind the Calamity War, and just generally seems to be a decent fellow. He does admittedly score points because he very clearly understands how dangerous Mobile Armours were/are, and is the first character to really articulate that. I kinda wish he’d told us, the audience, some new information about the Calamity War, but that’s not really a criticism at all.
Cameos from other Ibo Characters - mostly I can take or leave them, but I’d be lying if I didn’t get pumped when Mcgillis (as Montag) showed up in the Grimgerde to fight Londo Bron. I also loved seeing Isurugi going around, being generally competent.
Tumblr media
Actually yeah, Londo Bron. For my talk about Cyclase Mayer at the start of this, I found myself really enjoying Londo Bron, surprisingly so even. He’s a good pilot, he has noble intentions, and he feels like a really good example of an Antagonist, but not a villain. He’s only really opposing Wistario because he wants to restore the Issue Family, and Katya is the best way to do that (I might do a proper post on him some other time).
Another character I really like, despite their short screentime would be Major Bradley. He’s essentially the perfect picture of a colonial administration officer - he’s corrupt, he’s unreasonable, he’s pretty solidly classist, and it all just works. He’s not even cartoonishly evil, he’s just the sort of corrupt Gjallarhorn Official that illustrates the failings of the organisation. Obviously he shares a lot of DNA with Coral Conrad, from the original series, but the boredom, the arrogance with which he carries himself just makes him memorable. Plus he just looks obscenely British, furthering the colonial parallels.
I am absolutely loving the fight scenes in this. Yeah, a lot of the fighting is supposed to be for the in-engine graphics, so they could have totally phoned it in. But they didn’t. If only other shows that cut out background, story, plot and characterisation to ostensibly focus on the fights *cough* *cough* Build Divers *cough* could do that.
I do love how absolutely shameless Cyclase is. Just like “Oh boy, how do I get out of this one? I know, Betrayal!” It works into his character and it’s really fun to watch, but it’s just kind of hilarious how he makes at least like five betrayals in the space of the show. Very efficient.
Character Designs’ still top-notch. I don’t really have any specific examples that I haven’t already mentioned but yeah. It’s good.
Ah, I mentioned that I was considering getting the Hajiroboshi kit? The thing is, a lot of the time I can really like a character, and that can end up selling me more on their mobile suit’s model kit. This is the first time that’s ever happened with a mechanic. In brief; I don’t want the Hajiroboshi because it’s the mobile suit Wistario Pilots, I want the Hajiroboshi because it’s the mobile suit Denmer maintained all these years.
I do have two more points - one positive, one negative, but I’m gonna pull those out as separate posts, simply because I want to consider them separate from everything else, and I feel like I’ll want to follow them up separately after the finale.
In a nutshell, I’ve generally liked Iron Blooded Orphans: Urdr Hunt - it gives a good showing of the world of Post Disaster besides what we’ve seen with Tekkadan and Tanto Tempo, and a lot of the side characters are interesting. The only issue is that some characters and mechanics feel somewhat under-utilised.
(Though maybe that’s my own fault for hyping myself up for the Asmodeus).

Getting my thoughts on Open Book out.
I really liked the episode, and I feel like it's nice that we got an episode like this.
Bringing back the subplot of Connie trying to get Steven into her book series with them finishing the last book of the series and having completely different takes on the ending is nice.
And I really like that they don't agree on the ending, it feels like there's a message there about how an ending that some types of fans may hate still has things in it for people to love.
Like, Connie hating the ending, only for Steven to mention all the parts of it he loved, causing them to actual start a discussion beyond just what Connie disliked about the ending or trying to fix it was just really nice to see.
I also think I can kind of relate to Steven feeling uncomfortable sharing that he actually liked the ending, because he worries what Connie will think, given how against the ending she is.
And you can really feel that he doesn't really agree all throughout the episode, he just doesn't want to upset Connie.
I also really loved how they used Rose's room which gives Steven whatever he wants to illustrate a big point of the episode, that Steven shouldn't just agree, he should share what he thinks and what he cares about, even if it's contrary to Connie's view of the ending.
Because it basically puts Steven in the opposite position, and makes the fake Connie into who Steven was, someone who doesn't share their opinions and tries to go along with what the other person wants. And Steven doesn't like that at all.
I just really liked the overall messages of the episode.

Thank you for joining me on the terrace. It's nice to get some fresh air, but so much more enjoyable when in good company !
What do you think about this tea blend, Captain Levi ? It's Assam black tea, with bergamot, lemon & grapefruit dried peels, marigold & blueberry flowers. My favorite.
*leaning down to rummage through a basket on the ground beside them*
I almost forgot ! I spent my last day off in Mitras & I brought back a gift for each of you !
*sitting in their chair, smiling*
*presenting an elegantly carved wooden bix to Levi*
This is an assortment of different tea blends, mostly black teas. I hope you'll enjoy savoring them & tell me what is your favorite next time.
*giving a book to Erwin*
Commander, I know you like reading whenever you have spare time (which is not that often I'm afraid) & I instantly thought you would like it when I found this poetry anthology. Please let me know which poems you like the most, I'm curious.
*handing another book, but to Hange this time*
*smiling shyly*
Squad Leader, this one is very rare.
*pause*
Better for you not to know how I managed to get it...
*looks away*
*resumes explanation, a little embarrassed*
It's from outside the Walls... You'll find botanical descriptions & illustrations here, about flora unknown inside the Walls. I hope you like it.
*taking their own cup & sipping their tea*
Please take a cinnamon cookie, I made them myself this morning !
🍭 - anon
Erwin leans back in his seat and smiles at the anon. "I very much agree with you. Especially when we are graced with a little sun like today." He lifts his bright eyes to the cloudy horizon. For a number of seconds, his eyes seem to lose some of their focus, turning cloudy themselves as if he's falling into a dream. "And it's good for the soul, to step away from things for a while. It's how we can hang on to some perspective. I think we're all a little guilty of being swept up in things."
Levi scoffs. "We haven't had much chance to do much else. It's been one thing after another fucking thing."
"Levi please," Erwin chides his boyfriend gently.
Levi's cutting remark is lost when the anon asks about his view of the tea. He takes a long sip of the steaming liquid despite the temperature. "It's.... good," he decides after a long pause. "It has a lot of flavours. It might have been too many if they weren't blended so well. This is an impressive blend," he acknowledges. His eyes cautiously gaze into anon's. "This must be an expensive luxury. I appreciate you sharing some with us."
He lowers his cup to the saucer when anon presents him with a gift. "Why would you...?" he begins to say. "You owe us nothing." He eyes the box that is presented to him and, after much hesitation, takes it carefully into his hand and puts it on his lap. He opens the box and stares inside. "This is far too luxurious a gift to just be giving away like this." Although his words are protesting, he speaks with a reverence and the quietness of his voice softens his tone. "Thank you," he murmurs.
Hange's hand slides over Levi's elbow and they give him an unusually quiet smile as he closes the box and places it carefully on the table behind his cup and saucer.
Erwin takes the offered book. "This is really too kind a gesture," he tells the anon with a smile. "I am very grateful for the thought you put into this." Flicking through some pages, he smiles down at the poem titles. "This looks like it will be a very relaxing read." Raising his head, he smiles at the anon even more. "I will definitely share some favourites with you."
By this point Hange's eyes are gleaming behind their glasses as they are presented with a book as well. They lean forward and throw their arm around the anon, pulling them into a hug. "You are awesome! Awesome, awesome, awesome!" they declare enthusiastically. They grin at the implication of how this book was obtained. "Don't worry, I won't draw attention to this," they promise. Their eyebrows wriggle. "I might have to hear that story from you though sometime. That sounds like a promising tale."
They focus now on the book and begin to leaf through it with growing fascination by the second. "This is wonderful. Look at all the medicinal uses of... and... wow," they muse, "that could come in really handy. A lot of this is stuff we pass by on expeditions." Their head jerks up, the giddiness replaced by exhilaration in their gaze. "This is going to be so freaking good for my experiments!" they hiss with a massive smile. "Erwin-" they whirl around on their boyfriend who huffs with amusement.
"Running another titan experiment isn't a high priority yet, Hange, but you'll get a chance to put your findings to good use." Erwin promises.
Levi watches the anon quietly. "Why would you do all this for us? This must have cost you a great deal." He eyes the mentioned cinammon cookies with some contemplation.
Hange grabs two cookies and bits into one with a noisy groan of approval while Erwin politely picks one up and bites into it. After a moment, Levi carefully takes a smaller one and begins to chew on the edge.
"These are exceptional," Erwin agrees. "Thank you."
"You're skilled at baking," Levi agrees between tentative bites.

You mentioned that Guts compartmentalizes Griffith, making a difference between him pre and post eclipse, can you cite some specific examples of that? Some people I've talked to are skeptical and think that he really doesn't do that, and that if he did, he'd be calling him Femto instead of Griffith to make a sharper distinction.
Yeah, no problem! Though just for the record, if you’re getting into a heated argument with someone online then I’d prefer for you to just use my opinions instead of linking back here, yk?
It's not something I'll ever make a big deal out of of course, my blog is public and I fully accept that anyone can find me, and I'm cool with people linking to me in general and in chill discussions etc. But I want to avoid the possibility of getting dragged into an argument lol so yk, just use your judgement wrt whether someone might be a dick to me if you’re linking my blog plz and ty <3
So anyway! This is under a cut because I've illustrated all my points with cited panels from the manga lol, so it's long.
First of all, as far as I can remember, basically no one calls him Femto except Void. Idk why, but even other magic beings and the narrative itself tend to refer to him euphemistically (the fifth one, the incarnate, the desired, etc) than by name, so it would be kind of weird if Guts called him Femto. It just seems more natural to have Guts refer to him as Griffith imo.
Secondly, tbf I’d say it's a little more nuanced than Guts compartmentalizing different versions of Griffith completely, but like, in the opposite way most people might assume lol. He conflates human Griffith and Femto/NGriff by projecting his feelings about human Griffith onto Femto/NGriff, rather than by projecting Femto/NGriff onto human Griffith, ykwim?
He's not angry at human Griffith, his memories for human Griffith and residual feelings for him are still part of what keeps him going:
The campfire from those days saving him from the black flame of hatred or whatever:
Tumblr media
(chapter 130)
The lights in Guts’ mind Schierke sees:
Tumblr media
(chapter 228)
When he, eg, gets mopey when NeoGriffith abandons him on the Hill of Swords, comparing it to him abandoning human Griffith in the snow.
Tumblr media
(chapter 182)
Or when he thinks of NeoGriffith as his "true light," in a context where the rpg group (including Casca) are described as "warm lights," which should tell you what that means lol.
Tumblr media
(chapter 190)
And, in case the Beast of Darkness being Guts' subconscious needs explanation, here's a post on that.
Or when he sees NeoGriffith's ass and forgets his urge to kill.
Tumblr media
(chapter 177)
You get the idea. There are zero instances of Guts remembering human Griffith with anger. He thinks about him kneeling in the snow with a sense of regret a whole lot
Tumblr media
(chapter 130)
Or he thinks of him as the final part of his sad dead Hawk memories montage:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(chapter 90)
But when he feels anger pre-reincarnation, he generally thinks about Femto’s empty helmet, without a human face under it.
Tumblr media
(chapter 142)
Or NeoGriffith (though interestingly his face is also obscured here, which I’d forgotten til I found the image lol, nice)
Tumblr media
(chapter 328)
ANYWAY, aside from the general vibe of how Guts relates to his anger and to Femto/NGriff vs his quite tender memories of human Griff, he also outright says they’re different here:
“As if he’d been stolen from the past, the way he used to be.” ie he looks like he used to when he was human, but that’s only an illusion because he’s not the same person anymore.
Tumblr media
(chapter 177)
“That’s not the Griffith you know anymore!”
Tumblr media
(chapter 178)
“Don’t talk to me in that same voice!” (slightly less straightforward, but Guts wouldn’t be so angry and fucked up about NGriff looking and speaking like human Griffith if he viewed him as fundamentally unchanged)
Tumblr media
(chapter 178)
Also demons taunt Guts by pointing out that his friend became a monster and he can too, which isn’t Guts’ own thoughts but meshes with them nicely:
Tumblr media
(chapter 119)
Thinking about Griffith’s literal physical transformation while trying to hunt Femto down during the mock Eclipse fits as well imo:
Tumblr media
(chapter 164)
There aren’t like a ton of explicit statements here (though really, how many do you need? Guts still explicitly states it) but it’s the consistent vibe of how Guts views Femto/NGriff.
Though as far as I can recall, there is one line that arguably contradicts this:
“He hasn’t changed.”
Tumblr media
(chapter 345)
This is a direct reference to NeoGriffith proclaiming "Nothing has changed” while “deserting” Guts on the Hill of Swords.
There are two ways to take this (assuming it’s purposful and not accidental bad contradictory writing). Either this is just a reference to the dream specifically, ie Guts thinks his ambition hasn’t changed. Or Guts’ attitude is shifting with time and distance and especially with bitterness over NGriff’s refusal to engage with him. I personally prefer the latter take lol, I think it’s potentially interesting.
ETA: OH AND ALSO I ALMOST FORGOT BUT you also have Rickert asserting that NeoGriffith isn’t “his” Griffith, and NeoGriffith tacitly agreeing:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(chapter 337)
Which isn’t Guts’ point of view but it is a narrative statement that NeoGriffith is distinct from human Griffith and it supports Guts making a distinction between them as well.
Anyway yeah that’s what I got off the top of my head. It’s been a while since I’ve read the whole manga so I could be forgetting something, but hopefully this helps. Thanks for the ask!

"i don't know if it's alr for me to reply to this sense im a byler shipper but this seems like an open discussion. If they were to make mileven endgame I just feel like they should've wrote it better and not have introduced will having feelings for mike. And they shouldn't have paralleled byler to romantic relationships as it could be misleading if they were intending to keep mileven together. But what about the whole ending of s4?? If mileven is true love why did the monologue not work?? Why did the show directly tell us that mike and el after the monologue haven't spoken for two days?? Why did we see el making a annoyed/mad face when walking past will and mike?? I really like some of the points you made though! Its nice to see people just be able to have a open conversation for once lmao"
-
Even putting aside what you think of Mike and Eleven's storyline, I think the logic of "if the ship was endgame it would have been written differently" is inherently flawed because it assumes there's absolutely no way the Duffers could have just wrote their main couple in a way that you/other fans don't like, and I don't know where this assumption comes from. "The writing here was bad" does not necessarily mean "the writing meant to be bad". "The romance between Mike and Eleven is poorly written at times, so we are not meant to root for them" is the same as me saying "the comedy in season 3 was bad, so we were not actually meant to laugh". It's fully possible to think that the intent of a plotline was not achieved while also acknowledging what the plotline was going for. And I think it's pretty undeniable that the writing of Mike and Eleven's relationship is going for "epic endgame romance", whether you think it succeeds at selling this idea or not.
The same argument applies to the "they shouldn't have added Will having feelings for Mike" thing. I agree with you - I think this element was clumsily tackled on and it created a situation where it's very difficult to have an ending that feels satisfying for every character involved. But me thinking that a plot point was poorly handled does not mean that this plot point actually has a secret different function. It can mean that they just messed up. I don't know why shippers treat this possibility as absurd - ST's writing is often all over the place, and many other characters and relationships have suffered for it.
As for your questions, I think your interpretation of events does not correspond to the reality that was presented in canon. The monologue did work - it saved Eleven's life (and, by extension, everyone else's). If it hadn't worked, she would have died in Vecna's vines and the show would have ended right then and there.
The idea that they didn't talk for two days is also not true. Mike specifically says they talked. He references things Brenner said to Eleven that he (Mike) could only have known about if Eleven told him. The fact that Will asks Mike about it implies Eleven isn't talking much to anyone, and he might be the only one she talked to at all.
Finally, I think your last point illustrates how shippers goggles focus on only one thing to the detriment of plot points that, in canon, are much more important. Eleven makes an "annoyed/mad face when walking past will and mike" because she has just lost a battle for the first time, and failed to save her best friend from brain death. It has nothing to do with any imaginary romantic drama or jealously Eleven randomly would be feeling towards Mike and Will. It's a scene that matters because of Eleven's development as the show's main character, not because of any kind of romantic development.
(I forgot to reply about parallels, but basically I think fandom - not just b*l*r shippers - has a ridiculously loose definition of what a parallel even is, and vastly overestimates the importance of these supposed "parallels" in the writing. I think most of what B*l*r shippers view as "parallels" are superficial similarities that can be atributed to either coincidence or basic beats present in any story structure.
And even if we do give in to the idea of arguing about these supposed parallels, I think the ones that are in place for Mike and Eleven and other couples are much more clearer, and thus likely more intentional, than anything on the B*l*r side - i.e., Mike and Nancy both asking each other about their feelings for El and Jonathan and both denying it; Lucas and Max experiencing with Mike in season 2 basically the same conflict Mike and El experienced with Lucas in season 1; etc.)

The vision for an illustration breakdown from Shri - 27/04/2024
Hey Archie and everyone!
It's lovely to hear you taking control over your health and not letting anyone/society's expectations of a working/hustle culture control your life - leading to burnout. It really does feel like directly fighting against the capitalistic view when we value fun and rest above work and their view of 'success'
I also couldn't agree more with you - fairs are such a magical place, I've definitely got the best compliments and feedback from them, it always reminded me of the importance art has on people sometimes; always leaving me a bit dazed.
As promised my slightly late blog post is here. (It didn't allow me to edit my original post so)
I mentioned I just did a really big hand-in yesterday with Third Bear Press, so I don't want to go to ham on this post.
I did think about talking about my recent hand in but it's still too soon (I've been staring at those pages for two weeks straight and many weeks before that)
But if you want to have a cheeky look at it go check out the Kickstarter with Third Bear Press!
link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thirdbearpress/boxes-2
Anyway actually getting into the blog, I wanted to talk about something I've been pondering recently.
Archie and I were talking a while ago about how they're a bit frustrated with the difference between their vision for an illustration and their skill set - when your skill set doesn't match your creative vision.
And I indeed, I had some thoughts about it.
(also this is not supposed to be an @ at you Archie, I just went on a really long thought tangent).
Tumblr media
My first thought was "I used to feel that all the time" Then I was like "Wow I haven't felt that for a long time" Then I thought "Wow that kinda sounds a bit fullhead?!"
But then I was like "Hold up, back up. I don't think it has to do completely with the skillset, it also has to do with the visions/expectations itself?" because I can't remember the last time I had that experience of having that illustration idea the same way I did a few years ago.
They're different, so it got me thinking why?
Breaking down my thoughts
Tumblr media
Also, slight disclaimer: I did no research whatsoever for this so it's literally just my thoughts. Anyways, enjoy!
The vision/idea of an illustration
I don't have the same vision for an illustration anymore as I used to. Before I used to start illustrations/projects with a distinct image in mind, and then draw from there.
Nowadays I think of the idea/image and then clarify it with the message/thing I'm trying to convey through the image. Having this clarification on what you are trying to say is so helpful when hitting issues because you can always refuse back to that as a touchstone.
Without it shit hits the fan then it's harder to take that step back and reevaluate the image.
The minds-eye and the vision/idea
So this section of pondering reminded me a lot of the book I read What We See When We Read by Peter Mendelsund (very good book with a lot of nice pictures). This book discusses what we see when we read (hence the title), one of the main points of the book is what our brain actually images/pictures when reading text.
Here is an extract because it explains it better:
These readers contend that the success of a work of fiction hinges on the putative authenticity of the chat. acters. Some readers go further and suggest that the only way they can enjoy a novel is if the main characters are easily visible: "Can you picture, in your mind, what Anna Karenina looks like?" I ask. "Yes," they say, "as if she were standing here in front of me." "What does her nose look like?" "I hadn't thought it out; but now that I think of it, she would be the kind of person who would have a nose like .. "But wait-how did you picture her before I asked? Noseless?" "Well..." "Does she have a heavy brow? Bangs? Where does she hold her weight? Does she slouch? Does she have laugh lines?" (Only a very tedious writer would tell you this much About a character)
pg 24 of What We See When We Read by Peter Mendelsund
This strangeness of the brain of feeling/believing we can see a character in your mind's eye in full clarity - but at the same time, not actually seeing any details?
This is what I think also happens when we have an illustration vision/idea for a piece of artwork, being able to 'see it' but at the same time not.
This then can cause a lot of issues in the fulfilment of this vision for an illustration, because how can you ever go to the standard of your idea if you don't even know what it is exactly your idea is?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The skillset
This I wanted to touch on because although there is more to it then a skillset, skillset does have a play in this - but maybe not in the way you expect it. Although yes if your skillset is better it's easier to meet these expectations for an illustration, I also believe it has a lot do to with processes and how to handle issues in illustration pieces.
So before university, my process for illustration was very simple.
idea for illustration
Sketch out illustration
Line the sketch
Colour the illustration
Finished
And if at any point in this process, the illustration won't working or I run into an issue - I kinda just gave up on it?
My prosses now
Idea on illustration (along with what I'm trying to convey through it)
Research (sometimes, depending on the project)
Thumbnails
Initial sketch
Fleshed out sketch
Line
Colour
Texture
Finished
And at any point I run into an issue I solve it, for example, if the hand passion is wrong and just resketch it until I find one that's good.
Obviously, these a big elements of being skilled enough to be able to identify how something is wrong and how to fix it - so there is a sense of drawing mileage by being able to identify those things.
Anyways those our my thought on it - let me know if you guys have any thoughts/ideas on it too!
Thanks for reading my rambling thoughts
Hope everyone has a lovely dinner (I had a really nice roasted cauliflower with other picky bits)
All the good vibes
Shri

Savoring Video clips on the Entire world-broad-website
You might be dealing with Television just 1 night time scanning by way of the reruns believing it really is pitiful how modest tiny little bit there is to watch any more when a astounding motion photograph trailer commences. Efficiently, the motion image area has essentially read through you. Along with with the velocity of the entire world-vast-net, buyers have essentially now occur to a producer-new section of want. A$AP Rocky Drake Diss used to be that we Necessary each individual little factor immediately - now we Count on it. This is not the sort of matter that goes undetected by marketplaces that accommodate local community reception. And now it has seriously been exposed that we could quite possibly not be significantly from just strolling about to our computer system and downloading the newest releases. Through a convention at the Cannes Film Opposition, Modern society Ministers from throughout Europe, film enterprise brokers and Net Company Distributors ended up among people who fulfilled to talk about the probable suggestions knowledgeable to distribute motion shots on the internet. BBC report European Union media commissioner Viviane Reding as stating: "In Europe, as in other continents, the odds for males and females to adore motion pictures on-line are set up to enhance significantly about the pursuing handful of of decades". The purely natural way there are even now different issues to be mounted prior to movies are easily available to the typical community on the world wide web. Piracy and broadband capabilities are yet staying questioned. When new tunes info information have been being illegally shared in excess of the world wide web, piracy ended up remaining the nicely-known concern. Even though the songs sector fought in opposition to these answers as Napster, they are even so significantly from recovering their business cash flow and the movie market is not nervous to sign up for them. What are not able to be debated is that there IS a marketplace, and no field prefers to bypass that considering that of achievable difficulties. Appropriate now European broadband may perhaps very well not depend on the enterprise of downloading these forms of massive info information but has courses to carry on with distribution ahead of lengthy. In The united states there has genuinely presently been film distribution with the inescapable lawful proceedings towards gentlemen and girls supporting with unauthorized downloads. The battle in comparison to piracy is having taken very critically by the market, it is keep on to father and mother who are at the main edge of location the illustration and advising very little kinds on the ethics of downloading these types of substance. Those moments when your favourite story is ignored of the title of The Best Of Its Genre makes me sad
Like everybody don't talk about it anymore, I've been hearing about ppl saying it's getting bad even though we're on the good stuff right now? Why though? Is it because of the sex stuff?
Seriously the author just show us some implications of adult intimacy, it's not even outright graphic about it. Which is funny bcuz I know some stories which has the heavy 18+ adult scenes as it's main selling point and it ain't that even good don't get me started on the disgusting age gap, it's a fucking trend right now
The author is just fabulous she made both the writing and the illustrations, both are good in quality, hence why we get less updates but I'm willing to sacrifice, there were so many cases of creators like her getting tortured almost to death by the unreasonable workload the manager was a bitch apparently so I'm not hurrying anyone,if it took years, I'm willing to wait
She's similar to Miyazaki, they took a well-known generic genre and grind it and turned it into a new high quality masterpiece,it feels familiar but very new!
Like trying your favourite dish with different ingredients
Another author even made a story with a seemingly generic plotline of this genre at first then proceeded to turn it into a dark psychological horror:
The entire story is the character's dark emotional growth process. The narrative mentions several time of her emotional crisis and troubling mental state. It's nice they decided to put a realistic view on a popular fantasy setting
Not to mention the implied criticism on the tropes of this very story, it's like the author's way of saying "yes I decided to take a hammer and hit this thing till it's nothing like its original self" the funny thing is this story makes me wonder what kind of person would write it,shows how good they are at giving me brainrot and creative crisis
Tropes Subversion is my favourite genre as well
We love the molds breakers!!!!!
I kinda take issue with how you're using certain terms here like genre and generic or tropes and subversion; and maybe I'm just missing what your point is, but, ehh... I'm kind of a pedantic weirdo.
For starters, "subversion" is a trope. I get that people tend to use it to mean 'making a cliché not cliché anymore' (usually by force, i.e. with a hammer), but that's usually actually an author using the tropes of their genre effectively, sometimes including subversion.
Then we have the connotation of "genre" coming across as if it is meant to be taken for granted. Meanwhile, "generic" is just bad. These two words describe the same function. If a work of fiction is of a genre, it is necessarily generic. It is wild to me how "generic" held onto its nasty connotation from the days when "genre fiction" was a term that mean childish and repetitive.
We gotta remember that cliché is the norm for us. And not for no reason, cliché is comfort food. It's unchallenging. It gets put down for being nonintellectual, which is true, but cliché is familiar.
It may be the case that your peers do not share your appreciation for your favorite author because they do not find the comfort and familiarity of the genre's typical trappings. It may also be the case that your appreciation of your favorite author is, in part, due to a generic cliché.
Sorry if this came across kinda grouchy. Thank you for the message!🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇

Laura Duhan-Kaplan
Mouth of the Donkey
Re-Imaging Biblical Animals!
"Wolf and Lamb Together: Peace Is Possible"
The Work of A Lifetime!
Gospel
Mt 9:14-17
The disciples of John approached Jesus and said,
"Why do we and the Pharisees fast much,
but your disciples do not fast?"
Jesus answered them, "Can the wedding guests mourn
as long as the bridegroom is with them?
The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them,
and then they will fast.
No one patches an old cloak with a piece of unshrunken cloth,
for its fullness pulls away from the cloak and the tear gets worse.
People do not put new wine into old wine skins.
Otherwise the skins burst, the wine spills out, and the skins are ruined.
Rather, they pour new wine into fresh wine- skins, and both are preserved.
-------------------------
As I have gotten older, have arthritis, limp from my injuries, and find myself depressed some days, along with feeling like a failure after my work of a lifetime, I remember the reflection  of Martin Luther King Jr. that
"the arc of history bends towards justice, but it bends slowly."
In her book, Mouth of a Donkey Laura Duhan-Kaplan portrays a number of Biblical animals simply as smart, gentle, kind, and able to communicate with humans illustrating King's view point--no matter how bad it may look, history bends towards justice.
A new wine skin, or a new behavior, has to be able to hold the gritty and beautiful reality of this day and be open to its future. It has to hold the complexity and breadth of what is actually needed--for justice, for compassion, for care of the Earth. It needs to be resilient and tenacious because new behavior is often met with resistance and fear. The new wine skin has to possess the integrity and consistency of ordinary people who bring the best of themselves to daily relationships and needs--poverty, homelessness, racism-around them people who are willing to grow and expand with the mystery of God's presence.
New wine skins look a lot like people who know that commitment to bending the arc is the work of a life time and that fidelity and perfection are two different things.
I have spent nearly thirty years on Polk and Haight, holding the hands of Jamie, Cindi, and others. Many, and I mean many, have remained on the street a result of  lack of housing, drug treatment, and apathy of many. We need the touch of human beings, not the touch of government!
I have held the hands of too many to count who have died, sleeping in doorways, and out in the Park; I see every day the mistreatment of our homeless by every day folk. They walk to church this morning ignoring their brothers and sisters around them. Afterward go to the nice restaurants or home to a nice meal, not even remembering those under their feet who are starving.
Yet the arc is "bending slowly!"
Sometimes I picture large groups of people hanging on to the arc with all their lives, slowly bending it with the sheer force of their integrity and the full weight of their love for "Love doesn't just sit there like a stone, it has to be made like bread (Ursula Le Guin)--new wine skins slung over the shoulders of all."
"The Wolf and the Lamb" is seen through these new wine skins, and I know that The Work of My Lifetime" has not been in vain! Deo Gratias! Thanks be to God!

16 personalities questions: 49-51
49. Your personal work style is closer to spontaneous bursts of energy than organized and consistent efforts
This one is kind of funny to me. So one of the things that drives me nuts when I'm watching, for example, a hallmark movie, is the way creative work is portrayed. Within Hallmark movies, there seem to be an inordinate number of creative professional. It's typical to see one stuck on an ad campaign, for example, waiting for a creative lightning strike for inspiration. This just isn't the way creative work happens. If I sat around and waited for this kind of thing, I'd never get anything done. I have had them on occasion, but I can't wait for that. What I do is take the things that the client wants, and then start throwing down ideas. The natural creativity kicks in and you come up with ideas from the things you've culled together. But that happens naturally for creative people. I don't know why, it's just the way we're built. So ultimately, even in creative work, it comes down to organized and consistent efforts as opposed to spontaneous bursts of energy. I'm no different. I have to come up with creative stuff for my job. I have a general procedure for getting started on things, and it involves an organized process.
50. When someone thinks highly of you, you wonder how long it will take them to feel disappointed in you
Disagree. I usually expect people are going to think well of me. If they don't at first, I figure it's just a matter of time before they do. I generally think all they have to do is get to know me, and then they'll like me. It's a very few who don't.
51. You would love a job that requires you to work alone most of the time
Well, there are certainly times when I like to be left alone, but considering I voluntarily came back to the office even at the beginning of the pandemic, just so I could be here with the few others that were here, I think I could say I have a real-world test of this statement.
I'll grant that part of that equation is as follows. I'm an artist at law firm. Law firms make money by charging clients with billable hours. Part of my job, from 40-60% of my salary, can be billed because I am doing patent drawings. The rest is not. I'm in essence a luxury for the firm. There is some extra benefit in how quickly I can get drawings done too. For example, the previous guy would take around 3 weeks. I'll do them usually in a few hours. Sometimes it may take me a few days, but most of the time it's a couple of hours. This also translates into more freedom for the attorneys. So there are some benefits even beyond the direct billable hours, but still, my billable's don’t pay for my salary.
I therefore feel like my presence in the office helps explain what I do. I'm here, and when I accomplish things, I'm usually pretty diligent in making it known to my boss. This is basically political, so that I can establish my worth in whatever way possible. If I were just working at home, at some point, he might be thinking: is it really worth it to have him here?
So while part of my being at the office is my efforts to contribute to job security, the other is because I actually do like it here. I have a nice office with a great view. My wife worked for 33 years at 3M and the only people who got offices were with a view were upper management. I have a killer view and I'm a nobody. I'm also stoked about it because, let's face it, I worked in construction for a bunch of years, so I just think it's cool to be able to dress nice and go to an office. Yeah, I worked as a freelance illustrator for 22 years between the construction job and here, but still, I remember being dirty for work and wishing I wasn't.
Add the people in too; like I said, we have a really social office, and overall, I'm really happy being here.
But considering the question, it's probably not so much about my personal work setup, but where do I fit on the loner v socialite spectrum. I still think I'm further to the social side.
