Your mind couldn't stop projecting the moments of your night with Jaeyun in the closet of your best friend's house. When you left that small space, everyone bombarded the two of you with questions and you wanted to die from all the attention on you, thirsty to create gossip with details. You had to put on a good show and make the occasional sarcastic comment about how it wasn't a big deal, earning you a laugh from Jaeyun who just shrugged his shoulders with a knowing smile on his face and sat back down with the rest of the group without commenting on it, leaving everyone around wanting to know more.
Of course Yena, your best friend, knew all the details of what had happened and encouraged you to repeat it if you had the opportunity because you had told her that Jaeyun had been good to you and you were comfortable and happy talking about it, she also noticed, while you gave her details of everything you had experienced, how your eyes were bright with emotion and something else.
A new small party was happening again, this time the owner of the house was Jaeyun himself and again Yena, Heeseung -almost her boyfriend- and you were hanging around the place enjoying the alcohol and music. Of course it was not a small party and people were packed into the big house, wandering drunk through the halls and dancing to the music that came from the speakers connected in the living room of the house. You walked away from Yena and her boy, not wanting to witness how they were now making out on the couch where you had been sitting hanging out and you walked through the house at a relaxed pace with a plastic cup wobbly in your hand while you felt how the alcohol slowly rose to your head and loosened your entire body. When you entered the hallway that led to the rooms, where there were no people annoying, you felt a strong arm wrap around your waist and stop you from continuing on your way, you turned and gave a smile to the boy who now stood in front of you.
"I was waiting to see you here." The boy's seductive voice filled your ears and you smiled, feeling a little tipsy, letting yourself be held by the waist and your body pressed against his. That was the voice of Park Jongseong, one of the hottest boys in your school, part of the group of fuck boys that consisted of him, Heeseung, Jaeyun, and another boy named Sunghoon, who was a little more reserved and was a little harder to find at those types of parties.
"And why did you expect to see me?" You rested your free hand on his shoulder and moved a little closer to him when his arms on your waist tightened a little. His touch on your body did nothing in you compared to the last boy who had touched you.
"Do you want me to show you better?" The boy had a seductive and defiant smile firmly on his face as his eyes went from your face to your body, which was barely covered by a pretty revealing dress. You knew each other and had exchanged one than another provocative comment and some indecent friction at other parties, but it had never gone further. Normally in those situations you used to fool around a little, make out with him for a while, letting him touch you subtly, and then play hard to get, saying that maybe next time you would give him what he wanted. Some idiots chose to invent that they had taken you to bed and others just waited excitedly for you to come back to them, but you never came back. When the boy grabbed your jaw, lifting your face to his level, he moved closer to kiss you, but the call of someone behind you stopped him instantly.
"Y/n" the voice behind you was calm and relaxed, waiting to get your gaze. You, still holding onto the other boy, turned your face and found Jaeyun a few meters away from you. His posture was relaxed with his hands stuffed in the front pockets of his pants, looking only at you. Being the contract to his posture, her gaze was dark and heavy, reflecting something that you couldn't understand but that made your heartbeat accelerate a little.
"Hello, Jaeyun" you gave him an almost indifferent smile and looked back at Jongseong, but he was no longer smiling at you and even his grip on you had loosened. "What were we talking about?" you asked him. You noticed that his gaze now went from Jaeyun to you and you didn't understand what had happened to make him change his attitude so quickly.
Jaeyun had headed to the hallway where he had seen you walking, knowing that minutes before Jongseong had also gone down that same hallway. He knew his friend's intentions with you and he was not the one to interfere, but he couldn't bear the idea that his friend flirted with you and sweetened your ear to end up taking you with him to one of the empty rooms. He also had the thought that you wouldn't know how to refuse to do something with him, because he was sure that you would refuse. For some reason he felt that he already read you perfectly and he loved that, it made him feel like he was beginning to know you more and that he knew more about your personality than the other idiots who went around talking shit about you.
"You know, man" Jaeyun walked past you and looked at his friend. "I need to talk to her."
"Sure" to your surprise, Jongseong let go of you without hesitation and took a step back, making way for Jaeyun to approach you and he began to walk away little by little. "Let's talk later Y/n" He desperately wanted to sound casual, but his tone was tense and doubtful. Something told you that you two would never speak again. When he walked away completely and left the two of you alone, only the music could be heard over everything while Jaeyun had his gaze on you, waiting for something from you.
"What's wrong?" you asked, avoiding his gaze and bringing yours to the colored wall next to you. When he was close enough to you, his hand went up to your face, holding you very delicately, as if with his grip he could break you, and made you look him in the eyes.
"Do you want to come with me?" You knew that question suggested many things, you knew it by the way he looked at you and his body had leaned towards you, waiting for you to say yes. His eyes looked at you expectantly and his hand moved from your jaw to your cheek, caressing it. You swallowed, suddenly feeling nervous and intimidated by the boy's calmness, and nodded without thinking. You had been waiting for this moment since Yena had told you about this party. He just held your hand and after a few steps, he opened the door to one of the rooms in the hallway where you were walking, making you enter first and then entering and closing the door behind him.
You looked around the room quickly, a white room with some black details, a desk with a computer in the corner and a large bed in the center covered by a seemingly soft black blanket, nothing very flashy but strangely cozy. You abandoned your inspection of the room and saw how the boy, after closing the door, approached you at a slow pace. You remained motionless in your place until he was in front of you and took the plastic cup you were holding, setting it aside and this time replacing it with one of his hands.
"What were you planning to do with Jongseong?" His tone of voice was low and calm, but it was cold, sending shivers down your spine. "He's no good for you, Y/n."
"And who if it is?" The question caught him off guard and you could tell by the way his gaze changed, he blinked quickly a couple of times and cleared his throat, then looked down at his hands and intertwined his fingers with yours.
"He only wants you for your body, baby." His touch was warm and soft, considering his words weren't exactly gentle. "But he will never be able to make you feel the way you want and deserve." His words were cold, but they warmed your heart in a way you didn't understand. His entire presence overwhelmed you, making you completely nervous and making you wait for his next move, wanting him to do whatever he wanted with you.
"You would." the words came out of you without you thinking about them and that made him look at you, he gave you a small smile before putting his hands on your waist and stepping back in place, making you follow him. A few steps and he dropped his body sitting on the bed behind him, he then took you by the waist and forced you to straddle him, you holding onto his shoulders firmly. His hands intertwined on your lower back.
"You're beautiful" he declared, looking into your eyes "And I was going crazy watching how Jongseong had his hands on you, you have no idea." His arms around you tightened along with those words and you waited for him to say something else. "I don't know why, but lately I can't stand the thought of someone touching you or telling you how beautiful you are. Only I want to do it and when someone else gets close to you, I want to take you with me away from any idiot." Your heart beat hard against your chest with each of his words and your head spun, but this time it wasn't because of the alcohol in your blood. It was because of him. Your gaze traveled from his eyes to his lips, wanting to feel them on yours again like the last time, and he seemed like he had really learned to read your body language because without the need for words, he approached your face and captured your lips. A sweet kiss with a gentle rhythm had begun, but you couldn't stay with that and not have more of him, so you brought your hands to the back of his head and kissed him firmly, opening your mouth slightly so that both of your tongues would touch each other. It was also difficult for Jaeyun to just kiss you without putting his hands on you, so he agreed to deepen that kiss and his hands ran all over your torso gently, digging his fingers into your skin and making you gasp. His lips moved from yours to your neck and collarbones, lightly biting your skin and making you gently tug his hair.
"Jaeyun-" you didn't know what you meant exactly, but you felt the need to let his name fall from between your lips like a prayer. You felt his lips on your skin letting out a small smile.
"What do you want?" he asked you, his hands did not leave your body and his lips were on yours again, leaving kisses as he waited for your response.
"Do you remember the-" your words were interrupted by his lips not wanting to leave yours. "Do you remember the last time?" you asked, shyness beginning to present itself in your body at the memory and also at what you were thinking.
"I remember it every minute, wishing it would happen again." He declared without shame and without hesitation, his lips beginning to form a smile. You swallowed and took a deep breath as you formulated the sentences in your head as the boy waited. for you. "Is there anything you want to tell me?" he prompted you to speak, you nodded slowly.
"I still want to do something for you" you looked him in the eyes, showing complete seriousness and confidence. Your hands that were on his shoulders, slid down his arms and then you took your body off his, forcing him to remove his hands from your body.
"Y/n, no-" you chose to kiss him so that he wouldn't continue talking and make you more nervous than you already were. You were more than sure of what you wanted to do next so after that kiss, Jaeyun watched your every movement with great attention since you separated from his lips, got off his lap and dropped to your knees between his legs, looking with innocent and curious eyes at the growing bulge in his pants while your hands rested on his thighs. He felt his cock jerk when your gaze fell on it, he couldn't believe you were between his legs about to touch him and him being the first man you did something like that to. He also couldn't believe that he was the first man who had touched you indecently, making you lose your mind and that you wanted to be in that situation with him.
"So pretty." He brought a hand to your face and caressed your cheek. "Are you sure?" You looked up and he felt faint when you looked at him through your eyelashes with your cheeks flushed and nodded several times. "Say it."
"I want to make you feel good" you managed to say those words without hesitation, he then nodded and gently brushed away the hair that fell in your face.
"Okay, baby. If you want to stop, just do it, don't worry." he spoke, searching uselessly for your gaze that had returned to his body. You didn't listen to what he was telling you, you just pressed your hands against his thighs and went straight up to unbutton his pants and free his throbbing cock. Jaeyun let out a hiss through clenched teeth as your fingers took his cock hesitantly, brushing lightly over the top. When you heard him, you moved your hand away and he grabbed your wrist quickly, bringing your hand back to his cock. "It's okay, don't worry, keep going." you nodded and went back to what you were doing.
"Tell me what to do." Your look and hesitant words drove him crazy, he wanted to ruin you. He wanted to take your body and position it under his, listening to you moan his name over and over again. Jaeyun brought a hand to your soft hair and stroked it.
“Just keep going, gently, ah-” the words got stuck in his throat as you, following your instinct, ran your hand up and down his length with just enough pressure to make him moan softly. You felt a little uncomfortable since it was the first time you touched someone like that, but seeing how his lips tightened and his eyes closed gave you a little confidence to continue with your movements. Finding yourself in front of his big, glistening, hard cock, you swallowed hard and without stopping stroking it, you leaned forward, giving the tip a small lick. You felt his hand on your hair tremble and you noticed out of the corner of your eye how he threw his head back sighing, completely losing himself.
"Damn, Y/n" his hand grabbed a fistful of your hair, guiding you back to his cock. You parted your lips and wrapped them over the tip of his member while your hand stroked the rest of him at a steady pace, your teeth grazed him lightly and his eyes rolled back in his head along with the moan that escaped his lips. Your knees on the floor closed and you clenched your thighs involuntarily at that image and the sounds that the boy made. "Jesus Christ, fuck" his hand on the back of your neck pushed your head involuntarily and you choked a little. Jaeyun didn't pay attention to the involuntary movements of his hands because at that moment he was completely lost in the feeling of your warm mouth wrapped around his cock and your hand caressing him, finding it incredible that this was your first time doing that. He swallowed hard and focused on the pleasure that your mouth gave him, feeling that if you continued like this he would cum quickly in your mouth as if it were his first time receiving a blowjob. "Wait Y/n" you moved your mouth away from his member and raised your head, looking at him with your teary eyes. Jaeyun couldn't help but feel his heartbeat speed up and he held your face in his hands, caressing your cheeks.
"Did I do something wrong?" Your voice sounded a little raspy. You were worried, since it was your first time maybe you were being a complete mess and it bothered him. The boy shook his head several times while his thumb ran over your lower lip.
"No, it's perfect. You're perfect." His simple words gave you immense peace of mind and you decided to go back to what you were doing. Just give him pleasure. The feeling of having him in your mouth hitting the back of your throat and making you choke and shed tears was too much for you, but you didn't care because you just wanted to make him feel good, so you continued at your pace when you heard him moan and squirm in his place. "If you keep this up, I'll cum in your pretty mouth." You flattened your tongue against his member, moaning at his words, Jaeyun could feel that vibration running through the entire length of his member. “shit, keep going please” his voice was trembling and low while his hand returned to your hair and you bobbed your head at a slightly faster. "Baby, you're going to make me cum" he warned you, but you didn't care and still with your eyes full of tears and fighting your gag reflex, you took as much of him as you could into your mouth, Jaeyun let out a loud moan, avoiding with everything in him from thrusting his hips into your face. "God, baby, you're so good" his head was spinning and the knot in his stomach grew with your movements that were beginning to speed up, his words echoed inside you and you felt the wetness between your legs increase. "I-I'm going to cum" he said, you hollowed your cheeks and that was his downfall, his fingers tangled in your hair pulling a little making you whine and you closed your eyes receiving the salty and bitter taste of his fluids flooding into your mouth. Moans came from deep in his throat as his head hung back with his eyes squeezed shut, lost in pleasure, this having probably been the best blowjob he could have ever received. "Holy shit, you're so good at this, thank you god" some gibberish left his lips as he recovered from his orgasm, removing his cock from your mouth and leaving a trail of saliva down your chin. Jaeyun looked at you and the image seemed extremely hot to him, your eyes wide and filled with tears while a trace of black mascara ran down your cheeks, your lips were shiny and swollen and your hair was somewhat tangled because of him. “You're so fucking beautiful.” He smiled at you and his tongue ran over his bottom lip, his eyes were slightly half-closed feeling completely relaxed. He pulled your body making you stand up and return to his lap.
“Was it okay?” you asked with a little discomfort with yourself as you fell straddling him. Jaeyun looked at you almost admiringly as he caressed your face and gently combed your tangled hair. As he looked at every corner of your face, his hands went down to your thighs caressing them tenderly, he didn't want to move, he didn't want you to get away from him and he didn't want to let you go. He didn't know if he felt that way because of the immense pleasure you had just made him feel or if his way of seeing you really changed because of the simple but intimate moments you had shared.
"More than okay" he agreed, reassuring you. "Your mouth is wonderful" he complimented. For some reason you blushed at the comment and avoided his gaze, focusing on his chest that was still rising and falling a little irregularly. "Listen to me Y/n" he demanded your attention, bringing a hand to your cheek and you looked at him still feeling shy to look him in the eyes by choice.. "Next time-" his other hand caressed your thigh gently, making your skin crawl, wanting to calm you down as he noticed the nerves in your body again. "I will make you mine" It wasn't a simple comment and you knew he was serious so your stomach flipped and your body trembled. He looked at you expectantly, his gaze telling you that you could refuse if you wanted, but you didn't say anything about it because you agreed with his sudden decision. You looked into his eyes, squeezing his shoulders with your trembling hands, but you nodded at his words without needing to speak and he nodded too, smiling at you and moving closer to kiss you.

Eyes On You - CC
Tumblr media
Pairing: Caitlin Clark x Reader
Summary: You catch Caitlin's eye during a game (based off of THIS request)
Warnings: fluff, flirting, ever so slightly suggestive
Word Count: 3.2k
Sweetbans Masterlist
AN: Okay but tell me you haven't gone somewhere and actually imagined this happened because you would be lying...
It is a Tuesday afternoon when your friends practically beg you to go to the women's basketball game.
"Come on, it will be fun," one of your friends says. You shake your head no without looking up from your biology paper.
"I need to finish this paper, it is due Friday and I am nowhere near close to done," you say, typing a sentence only to delete it immediately after. For some reason, this research paper is just not coming together.
"We already got you a ticket, you are going." Your roommate states knowing the real reason you don't want to go and it has nothing to do with your paper.
The truth is there is a girl on the team who you have been crushing on for a while now. The two of you are in the same business marketing class. She caught your eye pretty early on. The two of you ended up sitting next to each other and would make small talk whenever you got to class. It was never anything major but it was always the highlight of your day. You would get back to your room and immediately tell your roommate about your little conversation with the star athlete.
That was the thing, when you were in class she wasn't the superstar, she was just Caitlin. She would make you laugh with some silly little comment and you would talk to her like she wasn't the biggest person at the school. She made you feel seen and you made her feel heard.
You close your laptop and give your roommate the death stare. She knew you would say no but got you a ticket anyway - knowing you would never go to the game without being forced. This is your roommate's push to finally show your interest outside of your small talk in class. If you were to ask her, she was sick of hearing you always talk about Caitlin and never taking action to show her you actually liked her.
You give in, knowing your roommate isn't going to budge and will literally drag you there with her bare hands.
The group of you head back to your apartment and get ready. You opt for a simple look - jeans and a Hawkeye hoodie. Your friends on the other hand were dressed to impress. You check yourself out in the mirror and question if you should change. You decided against changing and instead grabbed a Hawkeye ballcap, hoping to blend in with the crowd and not be seen by your favorite player.
All of you decided to walk to the game, it wasn't more than 20 minutes away from your apartment. The closer you got to the stadium, the more nervous you felt. You have no idea why you are nervous, it is not like she is going to see you.
When you get there, you follow behind your group of friends. It is all kind of overwhelming - the crowd and how many people are here and how decked out in gear they are.
You are too caught up in the scene to realize that your group is being ushered to your seats. This is your first Iowa women's basketball game and you didn't realize how crazy your school went for this team. You know that there has been a lot of traction around Caitlin Clark and how she is changing the game for women. But what you are seeing, is truly amazing the effect she is having on people.
When you all get to your seats, you are mortified. At no point did your roommate or any of your other friends mention that you were sitting courtside. Having the perfect view of the court is nice when it comes to watching the game but not when it comes to hiding from your marketing crush.
You sit and glare at your roommate, who ignores you quite easily as she is in conversation with one of the guys you came with.
You pull your ball cap down and wish you could sink through your chair. This will be fine. You will be fine. There is no way she is going to notice you when she is focused on the game. You keep telling yourself this.
The team makes its way onto the court - the crowd goes wild. You watch as they come jogging out, starting to warm up. Your eyes scan the crowd for no.22. You see a few other girls that are familiar from classes and make a mental note to cheer them on. When you finally find Caitlin, your heart skips a beat.
She looks so good. This is 100% her in her element. The once so laid-back girl, now locked in and ready for what the next 2 hours hold. You are mesmerized by how calm she looks - like the thousands of fans here shouting her name are nonexistent.
Your eyes remain on her while they warm up. When their warm-ups come off and they take the court for the beginning of the game, something shifts in her.
You turn over to ask one of your friends a question about the team, missing the first glance that Caitlin gets of you sitting courtside for her game. She turns over to Kate, who is standing right next to her.
"That's her," is all Caitlin says and gives a little point to you. Kate follows her point to a girl who looks like she doesn't want to be seen. That's hard to do when you are literally sitting on the court.
Your attention goes back to the game as the girls go up for the tip-off. When the Hawkeyes take it, you feel yourself getting into the game. No one really knew you grew up playing in middle school and high school. You were never good enough to play in college but you enjoyed the sport. You left that part of you when you left high school.
It's not even 2 minutes into the game when you feel eyes on you. You turn to see your friends staring at you. You look back at them confused. Your roommate uses her head to signal to something on the court. You look and are surprised to see Caitlin looking right at you.
You feel a heat creep into your cheeks as you just stare at her. See it would have been a good idea to smile or nod. Hell, even wave but you just sat there staring at her with a blank expression.
She just smiles and lets out a little chuckle as she turns back to the game. She gets the ball and shoots a logo three no more than 10 seconds after you made a fool of yourself. When she turns to the crowd to celebrate, she points directly at you and then holds up a three with her other hand. Your roommate elbows your side as you hide your face.
This was everything you were terrified of, being seen.
"It looks like she has someone to play for," one of your friends gives you a little nudge.
"Guys there is no need to make this bigger than it is, she could be pointing to anyone over here, it isn't a big deal," you say in hopes that you will also believe your lies.
Your roommate scoffs. "You keep telling that to yourself sweetheart, she knows, we know and by the looks of it, the team also knows," she says as she nods over to the girls on the court.
All of your heads turn to see Caitlin, pointing to you again but this time talking to more girls on her team. They all look at you with smiles then break from their huddle and head back to their spots on the court.
Caitlin is running straight in your direction.
"Watch," you say referring to how you are not the center of attention to anyone.
Caitlin doesn't stop where she is supposed to be posted but rather runs straight to you with her hand out. Your hand comes out to give her a high five.
"Glad you could finally make it to one of my games," she says with a little smirk. "Only halfway through the season, better late than never." She gives you a wink before heading back to her post.
You feel like you could pass out. There is no way she just came up to you, mid-game, to be a little flirt.
"Looks like your girl Caitlin now has someone to dedicate her plays to," one of your friends teases you.
"Oh shut up," you say but that doesn't take away from the butterflies that build in the pit of your stomach.
Everyone turns back to the game and as you watch your team fight to keep the lead.
It seems like in every other play, Caitlin is turning her head to give you a smile or a smirk. You want time to stop so you can walk up to her and tell her to get her head in the game. There is no way she should be this distracted when the score is as close as it is.
The next play has a girl from the other team, pushing Caitlin causing her to fall on her backside right in front of you. You lean down to stop her from rolling into the chairs, your hand coming to her lower back and right arm as she slides right into you. When your hand touches her skin, you accidentally shock her - sending a little electrical current running through both of you.
One of her teammates comes to help her up and a foul is called. Before she goes to throw her free throws she turns to you, saying, "Thanks, babe."
Your friends, yet again, turn to look at you and you just wave them off.
The buzzer goes off as halftime commences. You are scrolling on your phone when someone approaches you.
"Hi, I was asked to come give this to you," the woman says as she hands you jersey. You give her a confused look, not taking it, but rather just looking at the article of clothing she is holding.
"I'm sorry, I don't know what you are talking about," you say, genuinely confused.
"I was told by one of the players to give this to you to wear for the rest of the game," she says, signaling you to take the jersey. It is your roommate who takes it from the woman and lets her know you will put it on. The woman walks away and your roommate full-on turns to face you.
"You are putting on this jersey," she says, throwing it at you. You hear her mumble, "Just letting the poor woman stand there when she has better things to do. All you had to do was take the jersey." She seems annoyed at how naive you are being.
You look at the jersey that was just given to you - Clark 22 printed on the back. You slip it over your hoodie and slip your hat back on. You aren't going to deny the feeling you get when you first slip it on. And it is not like you are the only one wearing the number 22, there is a stand full of fans sporting the number as your marketing crush is the school's star.
When the team heads back out at the end of halftime, Caitlin's eyes go straight to you, making sure you got her little gift. She is pleased to see you wearing it.
As the third quarter begins, the team comes out hot, putting up 2 threes in the first minute. You are cheering them on louder than before.
After the next play, Caitlin comes your way.
"Much better," is all she says as she gives you another wink. You just smile at her, bringing your bottom lip in between your teeth. Caitlin's eyes go from yours, down to your lips. The smile she once wore, was now replaced with something between annoyance and longing. Every fiber of her being is telling her to walk up to you and pull that pretty little lip of yours out from your teeth and tell you that your lips are only for her to bite.
She finally looks away, realizing how much you are distracting her from the game. Kate runs up to Caitlin and whispers something into her ear, Caitlin nods and heads to grab water from the bench as the other team calls a time-out.
By the time the fourth quarter rolls around, you feel like you belong courtside. Your friends are still giving you a hard time whenever Caitlin looks your way or comes over to make a little comment to you. The game is nearing its end when Caitlin comes over to pass in the ball after a foul. She is standing right in front of you, so close you could touch her if you wanted.
She takes a small step back, her leg brushing up against yours. She steps up to the line and leans forward just enough to stick her ass out in your direction. This whole time, she has been the one in control. All that control went out the window when you bit your lip causing the super start to internally lose it. Her standing where she was, right in front of you, was no accident - she wanted you in the palm of her hand, not the other way around.
And boy did she have you. You sit there and just admire her body. Checking out her legs and how they are perfectly shaped. How her arms are beautifully toned and how she looks all around is incredible.
The game ends and the Hawkeyes take the win. The team rushes onto the court and begins celebrating with those who finished out the quarter.
You and your friends stand, stretching your legs. You had no intention of staying to see Caitlin after the game, thinking the team would go out to celebrate. You plan on giving Cait back her jersey the next class you two have together.
Your back is facing the court as you are waiting for your friends to grab their stuff when you feel a tug on your arm. You spin around and come face to face with none other than Miss Caitlin Clark.
She has a smile on her face and without warning, she grabs your waist and kisses you. Time stops and all the people in the background fade away. Your hands come up to her face as they cup her cheeks. You feel her bring your body closer to hers as she deepens the kiss. She gives your bottom lip a little bite as you break apart.
You stand there speechless. Dreaming of this kiss since the beginning of the semester, never in a million years imagined it would happen like this.
The most radiant smile is on her face. She leans in closer to you.
"My number is on the inside of this jersey. Call me, will you?" She asks as she looks at you for a response.
"Of course," is all you can say, still in shock about what has just happened.
"Good," she says. "I'll be waiting." She lets you go and gives your friends a wave before heading back to the team.
The whole walk home your friends can't stop talking about what had just unfolded before them. Some of them are as shocked as you are, while others are already planning your wedding.
When you get back to your room, you shoot Caitlin a text so she has your number.
[CC: I'm glad you didn't take long to shoot me a message}
{CC: Are you busy tomorrow? Want to work on our marketing paper if you haven't finished it yet?]
[You: That sounds great, I am quite behind 🤣]
[CC: Well I don't know if I will be much help, but I would rather do it with you than alone]
[You: I'm for it, meet at noon?]
She sends you her address. You like it and put your phone down to head to bed. Before you do, you hear your phone go off one more time. Grabbing it, you see one last message from Caitlin.
[CC: Sleep tight babe]
The next morning you wake up and go for a run. You needed to do something to help with the nerves that began to build just thinking about seeing Caitlin today.
You get back, shower, then get ready to meet her at her place. You make sure to stick her jersey in your bag to return to her and head out the door.
It only takes you about 15 minutes to walk to her apartment. When you get there you knock on the door.
She opens it with a huge smile, "Hi."
She lets you, opening her arms for a hug which you gladly shuffle into. It surpassed the length that friends would hug. As you pull away you decide to give her cheek a little peck.
After doing so is the first time you see her blush. You smile at her and continue to walk into her apartment.
The two of you decide to work on her couch - both struggling to get through this paper. You took frequent breaks talking about when you both started liking each other and more about your lives outside of marketing.
As you take another break, you grab your phone and decide to look her up only to find edits of you and her from the night before.
Your cheeks heat up immediately as you hide your face in your hands.
"What?" She says trying to look over at your screen. You hand her your phone and she laughs a little, followed by an 'awww'.
"I can't believe there are people out there who are making full-on edits of us." You say with a little groan - the spotlight is not your thing.
"They are cute," she says as she keeps scrolling through your phone. "Look at this one!"
You lean into her and look at what she is talking about. It is a clip of you before halftime, wearing your Hawkeye sweatshirt then jumps to after halftime when you are wearing Caitlin's jersey.
"I am sure glad I gave you my jersey," she says with a little smirk.
"That reminds me, I brought it back for you," you say, moving to grab it from your bag. She grabs your arm and brings you back into her.
"That one is for you to wear to the rest of my games," she says like it is a known fact. You decide to tease her a bit.
"And what makes you think I want to go watch you play again?" You ask.
She gives you a little pout - which literally melts you.
"Because you are my new good luck charm," she says and leans in closer to you. Your breathing becomes uneasy.
"But you don't need luck," you say just above a whisper. Your eyes going in between hers and her lips.
"You're right..." she says, also looking at your lips. Her eyes make their way back to yours. "I don't need luck, but I need you."
She leans in and kisses you. This kiss is much more reserved than the one she planted on you last night. There was no rush or urgency in this kiss, it was quite pleasant.
You inhale and bring your forehead to hers.
"I am all yours."
AN: I really like how this came out! Let me know what you think! And as always, thank you for your love and support 🤍

Counting how long you and Chloe had been in that nightclub wasn't something you cared much about, not least because the amount of alcohol in your system was starting to make your vision a little too slow.
Looking at your best friend, she had a bright smile as she balanced her glass and walked with you to one of the tables in the corner of the place. She sat down on one of the stools and pulled you to sit with her.
"You know what?" Chloe leaned towards you, resting her forehead on your shoulder. You automatically leaned your head on hers "I love you."
You knew it was the drink, but you laughed at her confession. Even though you knew that your friend loved you and you loved her back, there was no reason to find it funny, you could only be drunk enough.
"I love you more" you said back, kissing the top of her head.
Saying that you loved each other wasn't unusual, you both used to say how you felt and how much you loved each other. Being drunk and saying it made things ten times lighter, even funny because Chloe also laughed after hearing you say those words.
"Wow, what a beautiful smile" the male voice took you and Chloe out of the sisterly moment as you looked straight ahead. The man might have been well-dressed a few hours ago when he entered that club, but after a few hours the sweat was dripping down his forehead and his former tuft was now almost falling apart. But that didn't make him ugly, on the contrary, he looked very handsome as he approached the two of you.
"Who did you mean that for?" you asked.
"To both of you, actually" he said, smiling a little more "Can I join you?"
You wanted to deny it, but Chloe agreed straight away and moved away from one of the benches so the boy could sit next to her. Leaving your best friend between you and the stranger.
"I'm Jungsu" the boy left his glass on the table, straightening his shirt "I've been watching you two for a while, you know" as Jungsu spoke, you could make out his features. Well-defined lines on his face, and his arms weren't muscular, but he could certainly work on his chest. Because they were big.
"Oh, really?" you heard Chloe ask with a surprised tone, he agreed with a smile as his eyes landed on you.
"Are you two alone here?" he asked.
Something clicked in your mind, in a few seconds making you a little more sober than usual.
"If you've been watching us for a while, you should already know the answer" you said without thinking.
The look Jungsu gave you could only indicate one thing. He knew how it worked. Perhaps he knew you or someone who worked for your father because he didn't seem surprised by your answer. On the contrary.
"I see you're the smart one around here" his smile made your stomach turn. The boy's striking lines, once handsome, now became repulsive as he stood up and stopped in front of her "Come on, I just want to have fun. Just like you."
"And how do you intend to do that?" Chloe looked up, glaring at the boy.
"Maybe with the two of you—"
The chill ran through her body at the exact moment Jungsu was yanked backward with all his might and then thrown to the ground. You weren't startled by the thud or Chloe's cry of astonishment, but by Jake standing over the man as he landed the first punch.
"You motherfucker!" he shouted, throwing the second punch.
Your eyes quickly searched around, noticing that Heeseung was already running towards Jake to try to get him off the man who was barely defending himself.
"We found you two" Sunoo ran up to you and Chloe, holding your best friend by the shoulders as she lifted her off the bench "How about we go home?"
"But Jake..." Chloe began.
"He'll be here a while, trust me" Sunoo reassured her, he didn't need to tell you anything because you knew it was true. Only Heeseung and Jay were capable of getting him off someone, and seeing how difficult it was for the two friends to do it, it might take a while.
"Is that all you know how to do, Sim Jayeun?" the man flashed a blood-covered smile when Jake stopped punching him.
"I told you to stay away, you fucking bastard!" he shouted, feeling his pulse stop in mid-air as Jay held him down with all his might.
"Which one is your girlfriend?" Jungsu whimpered as Jay managed to pull Jake off him. A few men helped the one on the ground to his feet, some people surrounded the scene of the fight, but they didn't seem that shocked.
You could tell that maybe this place was also a mafia hangout because people weren't surprised that a fight was going on. Even more so with so many men with guns and looking like such big, unsightly monuments.
"Shut up" Jake said.
"What? Is that her?" he spat, pointing in your direction. You were still walking with Sunoo and Chloe, turning around when Jungsu spoke too loudly, afraid that he had said something else offensive to Jake. The man's bloody grin widened as everything began to get a little quieter than he would have liked "Oh, that's her all right. Y/n."
He knew your name. Shit, and you let it show when your face contorted in shock at hearing it so well.
"Fuck, that's her" Jungsu took a step towards you, only to be stopped by Heeseung and Keeho who were right next to him "Hey y/n, I bet Jake's keeping a dirty little secret from you, isn't he?"
"Jungsu, don't" Jake pleaded, but he knew it was in vain. He was shaking and didn't know if it was from anger or fear of what he was about to hear.
Your throat closed up and your heart raced when he said it. So everyone knew Jake's secret except you? He had secrets?
"What?" you got away from Sunoo, he almost shouted because he was torn between holding Chloe completely drunk or going after you.
Jake's pleading eyes asked you not to take another step, but you weren't looking directly at him. Your eyes were completely on Jungsu now.
"How do you know my name?" you asked.
"Oh, dear. Everyone knows who you are" he didn't mind the blood dripping from his lips "By the way, do you know that Jake had a brother?" his question didn't even have time to be processed, and you heard another one straight away "And do you know that he approached you out of pure interest?
Now your eyes were on Jake, silently wondering why the man was saying all this. Jake had a brother? Okay, that wasn't so bad, but him approaching you out of interest?
So everything you two had lived through had been a lie? Was that why he'd chosen the job, after all?
Jake didn't let his thoughts get any deeper. He ran past to pick another fight with Jungsu, you couldn't see what was going on because your view had been blocked by Keeho.
"How about we get out of here?" he asked you, trying to put on the best smile he could manage, even though it looked like a grimace at the moment.
"No. I want to—"
"Jay's taking him right now" Keeho said "Just, please, let's get out of here."
It wasn't clear whether his request had been a plea or an urgency, given the moment that the curses between Jake and Jungsu were heard.
Your head was spinning, a whirlwind of things was happening and you just really wanted to get out of there. But you didn't want to leave any of the boys behind, so even though you followed Keeho to the car, you didn't get in until Jake had left the club carried by Jay and Heeseung.
You looked away to see inside the vehicle next to you, Chloe lying peacefully asleep with her head on Sunoo's shoulder. He tried to smile at you, you smiled back and looked at the three who had just arrived.
"I'm going to kill him" Jake shouted.
"You calm the fucking down" Jay shouted back, making Jake stop fussing. Hearing him swear was something unusual, and anyone who knew Jay would be in shock when any swear word came out of his mouth "Let's get in the fucking car and go home."
Gradually the boys split up to get into their cars and drive away, and it was at that moment that you realized there was only you and Jake left.
Your gaze didn't want to meet his face because your heart was beating too hard, and you knew that with any eye contact, everything would easily fall apart. But Jake wasn't thinking like that, he needed your gaze on him. And as soon as Jake's fingers touched your chin, making you look at him, everything really fell apart.
Your vision was blurred by the amount of tears, noticing a cut on his cheek and a bruised lip. But nothing the bandages couldn't fix. Jake's eyes were also glossy, indicating that he was about to cry.
"What Jungsu said—" Jake felt his voice shaking, the knot in his throat preventing him from speaking. He knew he would cry copiously as long as he stood there looking at you.
"Let's go home" you also said shakily, not wanting to say anything else that wasn't necessary.
Jake just nodded, sighing loudly and preventing any tears from coming out. He decided to drive away, going in the car with Sunoo and Chloe, leaving you to go with Keeho and Heeseung. Maybe it was better to get away from him at least on the way home.
Tumblr media
Jake never thought he would feel so empty not having your eyes fixed on him. He knew that you often looked away in the same room as him or even avoided looking at him, but your attention was on what Jake was saying or doing. Not now.
Now your attention was entirely on your feet walking down the hallway of the mansion as he walked beside you to your living room.
Jake's heart was still racing from the previous events and flashes of the scenes were going through his head. Sooner or later you would know everything, even if he wanted to hide it for so long, Jake knew that one day he would tell you about his brother, about why he had joined the mafia. He just didn't know that everything would be ruined by the disservice of someone who was only there to get in the way.
He felt his blood boil when he remembered Jungsu's words when he remembered your looking at him for answers that Jake didn't know how to give. He wanted to pull you out of that dance club and tell you everything.
But first, someone had to spoil it, making things up without any foundation because that's what happened in that environment. People made up rumors, and stories that had never happened just to see someone lose their head or get what they wanted. In this case, Jungsu wanted to make Jake lose his mind and, at worst, he wanted to steal you away from Jake.
The thought alone made the boy press his nails even harder against his own palm until the burning took over his skin.
"Jake!" you called out loudly, pulling his fists forward, and it was then that he realized that the two of you had already come to your office to get some things for his injuries.
"Sorry, I—" he pulled his hands back, opening them and seeing the nail marks starting to bleed "I'll clean this up."
"You can let me clean it up, we need to take care of your face" your shaky voice indicated that, at any moment, you were going to cry and Jake didn't even blame you because he was exactly the same way.
Raising his eyes in your direction, he noticed that you were picking everything up carefully, or moving slowly just to prolong the time you had to get close to him and tend to his wounds. Jake sighed at the idea of the last thought being true, so he just accepted it until you had picked everything up and returned to him.
Before you could even wet the absorbent cotton or put anything on his face, Jake grabbed your hand and made you stop. It wasn't a sudden act, but it made you tense in place and avoid looking up as he wanted. You stayed that way for a short while because when he called your name, in a whisper so low that even the slightest approach would be heard. It made you look up and face Jake.
You shouldn't have done that, he's too close. You thought to yourself, almost feeling your heart beat out of your throat as his eyes looked at you with such intensity.
"Can we do this in your room?" he asked, speaking again as soon as he noticed your mouth open, probably contradicting his question "I don't feel like seeing anyone, and I feel like the boys are going to look for me here."
You nodded, it wasn't as if you never tended to Jake's wounds in your room. That happened more often than in your care room, so you just gathered enough materials and indicated for him to follow you.
Walking to your room in silence wasn't torturous for Jake, it helped him think about all the things at once. Reorganize your thoughts and even the view in front of him.
He knew that in your mind, you thought that everything that had happened between the two of you was purely out of interest, could see the sadness in your eyes after Jungsu mentioned that lie. Jake just didn't know if you would listen to him after everything if he deserved to be listened to after hiding things from you for his own good and yours.
You went into your room first and dumped your things on the table next to a huge sofa in the corner of the room. Jake entered next, noticing that nothing had moved since the last time he was there. Maybe another picture of you and Chloe hanging on the photo wall you had or a flower that Sunoo sent you because he always did that.
And you always took care of all the flowers you received, he was sure because he remembered the times you picked up a handful on the way home before sneaking into your room. Jake would leave the flowers on the table waiting for you to come home from work or somewhere you'd gone with your dad and your best friend. You looked after the flowers until the last second of their life.
"Okay, here it is" your voice snapped Jake out of his nostalgic thoughts only to make him widen his eyes at the scene in front of him. You were holding a change of clothes out to him.
"What..."
"I still keep a lot of your things here, it's not that hard to find something of yours in my closet" you tried to smile, but the pain in your eyes made them shine even brighter. Struggling not to let any tears fall, Jake picked up his clothes and waved at you "You can take a shower here, I'll go in the other room."
"No, I'll do it" he stopped you "You can shower, I'll go in the next room and get ready and I'll be right back."
You knew this argument wouldn't be won by you, so you let him leave the room quickly in his clean clothes before closing the door.
A weight left your body as soon as you stepped under the warm rain, wetting everything you could and closing your eyes as you began to wash your hair. You wanted that water to have the power to take away all the bad feelings you were having and all the urge to cry that was stirring inside you. But perhaps it could be released little by little, so you allowed yourself to cry. Letting the tears fall, mixing with hot water as they soaked your face, and then opening your eyes.
Swallowing sobs as you spent more than forty minutes under the water, not wanting to get out so soon, but you had to. Someone was waiting for you in the bedroom and you didn't even know if Jake was back yet, so you had to be quick.
Having finished washing, drying off, and putting on your pajama shorts along with a T-shirt – which was also Jake's – you left your hair damp until you left the bathroom. And you were right, Jake was already waiting for you in the bedroom.
He was sitting on the edge of your bed and facing the window, his hair was damp like yours and the black sweatshirt matching the black T-shirt you had given him made everything stand out even more in your room, which had always been in lighter tones.
Jake looked in your direction as soon as your footsteps began to be heard around the room, and he couldn't help smiling when he noticed his T-shirt in your room. Such a familiar scene.
"I hope you don't mind..." you started to say as soon as you saw him staring too long at the T-shirt.
"Never. I always liked you wearing my clothes" he was still smiling, and you wondered if that bruise on his mouth didn't bother him when he did that.
Taking advantage of the fact that Jake was sitting on the edge of your bed, you picked up the things you had left on the table earlier and approached him again. On instinct, Jake spread his legs for you to sit on, which you did.
"Let me know if it hurts, okay?" you asked, hearing him murmur in agreement and keep quiet while keeping his eyes closed.
It didn't hurt at all because you were always so careful, even more so with him. Jake wanted a little excuse to grunt in pain and grab your waist, but no, he could only relax and hear your voice calling him as soon as it was over.
He opened his eyes and noticed that you were already on your back, throwing the disposables in the trash and arranging what was left of the medical care so that you could take it out of your room later.
"Y/n" he remained sitting on your bed, his eyes still on your figure when you turned to face him.
Jake didn't say anything, he couldn't. Not because he had nothing to say, but because too many things wanted to come out at once and he was afraid of saying the wrong thing.
Where would Jake start... by telling you about his brother? Or tell you how he approached you and really fell in love with you? Or should he tell you how sorry he was and take you to the hospital so you could see what he did apart from the extremely dangerous missions he went on?
Jake wanted to have the right order of words in his mind so that he wouldn't have to feel nervous in front of you. It was as if he was talking to you for the first time.
It was as if you were approaching him for the first time, looking into his eyes in such a brilliant and painful way that Jake wanted nothing more than to disappear. Take everything you were feeling and leave, because you were sad because of him. You had cried because of him.
"I'm sorry, I'm really sorry" Jake let the whisper slip out when you were close enough to him, almost touching his knee with one of your legs when you stopped facing him.
"It's okay" you tried to whisper in the same tone as him, sending a small smile when Jake's eyes couldn't take it anymore.
The whole thing spilled over because he felt he didn't deserve any of it. Jake deserved to be seen as a bloodthirsty monster who killed without shame and only earned the highest salary for it. He should continue to have you glare at him while thinking that he had chosen the job over you. Jake deserved every bad thing that was happening.
"Please, Y/n, I'm so sorry" he sobbed and lost himself in the moment with his head buried in your belly and your fingers in his hair. Jake cried softly and pulled you even tighter against his body when he felt your lips between his hair.
I don't deserve any of this, Jake thought.
You released him from the embrace as soon as you heard him stop crying little by little, sniffling softly when one last sigh left Jake's lips and he pulled you to sit next to him.
Feeling daring, Jake turned to face you, sitting on your bed and leaning close enough to rest his forehead against yours.
"I know you don't want to listen to me right now, even though I have a lot to say" the low tone sending shivers throughout your body, Jake's breath hitting your skin "But I just want you to know that the last thing Jungsu said was a lie. I never approached you out of interest."
You bit your lower lip to stop yourself from sighing with relief, not wanting to show that it had made you feel a little better. Even if you were still wary because he could be lying... couldn't he? According to Jungsu, Jake had a little secret, so was that it?
"Please stop feeding these lies in your head" he snapped you out of your thoughts and made you look at him "I can hear your mind screaming from here."
"I'm sorry, I—" you kept looking at Jake until you brought your hands forward and took his hands in yours "It's a lot to process..."
"I'm here and we'll talk about it later, okay?"
He seemed genuinely keen to talk later. Things that Jake had always shied away from or refused to tell you, he was now openly saying that the two of you should talk about.
"All right" you clasped your hands in his "How about we get some sleep now?"
"Okay" Jake moved his face away from yours, reluctant to let go of your hands as well "Anything, I'll be in the next room" he leaned towards you and left a slow kiss on your forehead. The sensation made you close your eyes, how you missed that kiss from him.
"Good night, Jake" you said.
"Good night, Y/n. See you tomorrow" he whispered with his lips still on your forehead, pulling away and getting out of bed to walk out of your room.
You followed him with your gaze until he was out of sight, hearing the door close and allowing yourself to throw your whole body onto the bed.
Part of you wanted to ask him to sleep there, with his body wrapped around yours and spending the night listening to his warm breath close enough. But another part of you was still upset and confused by everything that was happening, so you were grateful that he was able to think about it and make the two of you sleep apart at least that night. Jake probably wanted to think about everything too, and sleeping with you certainly wouldn't help the process.
Hugging each other's pillows and snuggling under the covers, at the same time and in separate rooms, you both thought about each other before falling asleep.
Tumblr media
You could feel the weight of Heeseung's and Niki's gaze on you as you curled up a little more in the armchair, sipping the mug of hot chocolate you had ordered a few minutes ago.
Your two friends were looking just as sleepy as you, Niki almost devouring a piece of toast with cheese and Heeseung sipping the freshly brewed coffee he had also ordered.
The first few minutes of the morning in silence were crucial to your good mood for the rest of the day, but today in particular you were apprehensive and wanted to say everything that was on your mind. Firstly because Niki had knocked on your bedroom door and whispered to you to come down and have some coffee. Secondly, Heeseung seemed a little more restless than usual, if it weren't for the number of times he moved around in that armchair you could have sworn he wanted to run out of there.
"Y/n" Niki was the first to break the silence after he'd finished eating his toast, wiping any leftover bread from his mouth and settling lazily into his chair.
You mumbled something to show that you were listening to him, sipping more of your hot chocolate and letting the liquid warm your whole body.
Niki quickly glanced at Heeseung, grateful that you were staring at the irregular shapes your chocolate made with the milk mixture, missing the moment when the two of you hissed at each other for fear that you would hear.
Your gaze followed Niki at the exact moment he stopped hissing curses at Heeseung and started looking at you. A small smile adorned his lips as he clasped his hands together and rested his arms on the knees.
"Did you sleep well? Would you like something to eat besides hot chocolate?" he asked.
You took the last sip from your mug and placed it on the table in front of you, leaning back in the armchair and looking at him.
"What happened?" you asked him back, "You two are strange."
"We are strange" Heeseung rolled his eyes playfully and felt relieved when he heard you laugh, at least the morning sulk had passed. Then he straightened up a little more where he was sitting, rummaged in his back pocket, and pulled out a small envelope "This is for you."
"For me?" your brow furrowed in surprise. You didn't usually receive any letters, especially if one of your friends had delivered them. So receiving something like this made you feel surprised, but not hesitant, so you quickly snuck up at the same second as Heeseung to grab the envelope from his hands.
It was then that the pieces fell into place and you understood why the two people in front of you were so apprehensive.
Read it with Heeseung and Niki by your side, please. That's what the top of the envelope said, and Jake's unmistakable handwriting made your stomach turn.
Searching for answers, you looked at the two boys in front of you in the breakfast room and silently asked one of them to say something.
"He just asked me to give it to you" as if Heeseung had the power to read minds, he replied lowly, "Jake left in a hurry this morning with Jay and, well, we were in charge of leaving it with you."
You wanted to get angry and think that he'd run off once again, that Jake simply didn't want to explain himself to you while he went off with Jay to who knows where. But no, he didn't do that this time. Although an envelope wasn't a big deal because you hadn't even opened it yet, maybe something in there would make you think differently.
"Do you want to read it here? Or somewhere else?" Niki asked you.
"Can we read here?" you said, seeing that they both agreed with you.
The place wasn't too bad and no one would go there uninvited, it was one of their favorite corners of the mansion to have coffee or just go with Chloe when she was there. Choosing that environment for your breakfast had been a good idea, even if unintentionally.
"Before... Can I ask you something?"
"If we know the answer, of course" Heeseung said this time.
Your eyes were starting to blur and you took a deep breath to push away any urge to cry, or any heavy feeling that was enveloping your chest and taking over your body.
It wasn't going to beat you. Nothing was going to take you over like it had recently, even if the last night was replaying in your mind. Even if all the events surrounding your relationship with Jake were part of the reason why you were so easily vulnerable.
Playing with the paper in the envelope between your fingers, staring at Jake's hasty handwriting, and re-reading what was written there – at least three times – you finally looked at your friends again.
"Do you two know what's written in here?" you asked.
There was a certain period when Niki and Heeseung searched each other's gaze for a way to tell you that they did. They knew what Jake had written and even saw him cry copiously as he put every word on that paper.
They both wanted to say that Jake had finally plucked up the courage to tell you what was going on, but they also wanted you to find out for yourself as the older of the two in front of you nodded.
"We know and we even stayed with him while he was writing" Heeseung decided to be brief, even if the additional information didn't need to be said. But he wanted to lend credibility and make you feel a little less tense as he looked at you "And we're with you now."
You wanted to thank him for his words, even if nothing could be said to calm you down at that moment. Heeseung knew that, but it was worth a try.
So, with trembling fingers and irregular breathing, you opened the envelope and took the paper out.
Praying and asking everything you believed that, although those pages contained what Jake wanted to tell you, you would find him after reading every little word.
Tumblr media
The blood on Jake's knuckles was nothing compared to the fury he felt as he threw another punch, hitting the jaw in front of him.
"You're still refusing to talk, aren't you?" he laughed sarcastically at the man in front of him, barely managing to mumble anything as he stared at Jake.
"I told you!" he muttered as best he could, spitting out the blood that had accumulated and groaning in pain.
Jake moved a little closer, his uninjured hand gripping the man's dark hair as he grinned devilishly. Anyone who says they've never been scared of Jake Sim is because they've never had the displeasure of running into him in a mob torture chamber. That man turned into the most perverse being anyone had ever seen.
"It wasn't enough, you know" Jake's lips were close to the other man's ear "Should we call Jungsu now, or are you going to open your fucking mouth and tell me?"
He knew he wasn't going to get much, it had been two hours since Jake had kept him in that room, torturing him in every way and he had never said anything very relevant. But the lack of understanding and the blindness of anger made Jake unreachable.
"Jay" he shouted to his friend on the other side of the mirrored glass, and after a few minutes the boy appeared beside him "Call Jungsu, now."
"No!" the man shouted, to no avail. Jay was already asking one of his cronies to call Jungsu and picked up the phone as he did so.
In any other situation, Jake might take pity on someone who had a swollen face – probably a broken nose – and blood coming out of their mouth. Cuts and bruises were the only thing visible on the very little skin left untouched. Jake would feel sorry for what he had done to someone in this situation, but he just couldn't think straight. Not when he was close enough to answer.
"Hello?" Jungsu answered, Jay quickly passed the phone to Jake – who wasted no time in putting it on speaker.
"Hey Jungsu, how's your day going?" he asked as casually as if he wasn't in a torture chamber with blood – literally – on his hands.
"Jake Sim?" he asked, spending a few seconds before saying again, "What the fuck are you calling me for?"
"Hey, watch your tone with me, you fucking asshole" Jake laughed "But I think you should check if anyone's around."
"Anyone missing? What are you talking about?" Jungsu stirred from wherever he was, the noise on the other end of the line indicating that he was walking somewhere. A few voices passed through the call as Jake waited patiently "Jake, what the fuck did you do?"
"Oh" he smiled at the boy in front of him "He doesn't even remember you're gone, Dave" a false pout adorned his lips as he looked at him.
"Dave? Jake Sim, you bastard" Jungsu shouted from the other end of the line, more footsteps being heard and voices booming "What did you do to him? I'm going to kill you!"
"Hey, relax man" Jake said into the speakerphone, pulling away from Dave and walking across the room "I found your little boyfriend out for a morning walk, so I called him over to talk."
"I should have killed your girlfriend when I had the chance."
"You wouldn't be here now. You know that, don't you?" Jake tried to look as calm as possible at his mention of the conversation, moving the phone to the other ear and leaning against the table in the corner of the room. His gaze went to Dave who was struggling to keep his eyes open.
"What do you want, Sim? Just fucking say it" Jungsu was exasperated. Jake knew he was rushing to find Dave anywhere. He breathed a sigh of relief as he asked Niki to deactivate any possible location.
"I want to know the truth" Jake rested his free hand on his elbow, moistening his lips with the tip of his tongue. His throat went dry when he thought about saying it out loud, but everything was already so hot that he couldn't let it go "I want to know who of your men left my brother in a coma. And when I find out, you can be sure I'm going to kill him with my bare hands."
Jake swore he heard Jungsu swallow dry and so loudly that he, feeling manic, laughed at the sheer desperation of the man on the other end of the line.
"You have twenty-four hours to give me information, or your precious Dave will be back with you, that's for sure" he pouted with his lower lip even though Jungsu couldn't see, "but he won't be breathing anymore." Before he could hear any screams from the other man, Jake hung up.
At that moment across the room, Dave had fainted, because Jay and Sungchan were teaming up to lift him onto the chair, and even though Jake was against it, someone should clean him up. He'd gone too far and might recognize it later, but he wasn't going to stop them from at least taking away the excess of what his anger had done.

"Are you sick or what?" Heeseung ran a hand through his hair, exasperated as he watched Jake put the bandage on his finger. That job didn't need to be done by you, not to mention that it would lead to a big explanation as to why Jake was hurt like that. And that was something he wanted to avoid at the moment.
"I told you I'd do it" Jake warned, leaning back on the table after wrapping his middle finger in the band-aid.
"You said you'd talk to Jungsu, not kidnap his boyfriend" the other boy paced back and forth in the room, taking a deep breath as he went over the information Jake had given him a few minutes ago.
"And Y/n, where is she?"
"Probably in her room reading your letter" Heeseung turned to Jake "She changed her mind and said she wanted to do it alone, but Niki is in the corridors in case she needs anything."
"She'll need it" Jake said.
"Did you write everything in that letter?" his friend approached him, leaning against the table next to Jake and hearing him agree with a quick sound coming out of his mouth "About your brother and why you're in this fucking job?"
"Everything, every detail" Jake bit his lower lip to avoid any expression radiating from his face. Whether it was pure fear or nervousness, he didn't want Heeseung to know.
"So she'll probably want to kill you in a few minutes, or be running around the mansion to hug and kiss you."
"I think I'll take the first option, knowing Y/n the way I do" he laughed, being joined by his friend.
Jake knew it wasn't the best way to tell him everything that had happened since he joined the mafia a few years ago. Perhaps holding your hand, looking into your eyes, and saying everything out loud was the best thing to do, but as always Jake felt afraid. He felt himself becoming more and more fearful and cowardly when it came to facing reality and saying it out loud. Especially to you.
Writing it all down made Jake relive every moment since he first set foot in that mansion. Bad feelings surged through every ounce of his body as he felt his eyes burn from staring at anyone who passed his way.
If they were to personify the word revenge, it would surely be Jake on the day he arrived at the mansion. Or as he prefers to remember it, the day he met you.
"All I know is that I was close enough and I know that Jungsu will bring some information, we're almost there, Heeseung."
"You just can't forget how much Y/n's father is betting on it and putting a lot more people on the missions you call, can you?" Jake sighed at the thought, knowing that Heeseung was right as he said, "I know you're close to knowing who did this, but don't forget that there are people with you. And we don't want anyone to die in the process, do we?"
"No, I don't want that" Jake looked at him, sincerity in his eyes. He knew that all his anger was blinding him when it came to knowing who had done all this to his brother.
Jake wanted to try to be a little more rational after having gotten so close, and after having taken someone as bait to get Jungsu to tell him what he wanted to know.
His thoughts were soon interrupted when a few faint knocks sounded against the thick wood of the office door. Jake and Heeseung turned and the latter called out, welcoming Niki in. He had a humorless smile on his face and his hands in his sweatshirt pockets.
"Hey, how are you two?" he asked as soon as he had closed the door.
"What the fuck did you do, Nishimura?" Jake looked at him, then took a step forward. Heeseung was quicker, pulling Jake by the shirt and making his friend stagger over to the coffee table in the office.
"What happened?" Heeseung looked at him.
There was silence for a while as Niki looked between Jake and Heeseung, then at the paintings hanging on the office wall. He wondered how long it had taken the artist to make so many stars in a painting of the night sky, each brushstroke must have been very precise because there wasn't a single blur. At least not a visible one.
"Right..." he snorted, taking his hands out of his pockets and pulling the hood of his sweatshirt up over his head to try and hide from his friends. But to no avail, Niki knew he was being very well seen by the two in the room. So he turned around and pulled the hood off his head, tensing his jaw as he noticed each of the expressions staring back at him "How likely is it that Y/n jumped out of her bedroom window and ran away?"
"What the fuck are you talking about, Niki?" Jake laughed a little as he looked at him, stopping laughing the moment he saw that Niki hadn't flinched for a single second and hadn't made a single move since he'd said that "Dude, what did you just say?"
"Y/n jumped out her fucking bedroom window? What do you mean?" Heeseung almost shouted.
Niki wanted to cry already imagining what would happen because you were under his supervision.
"I was in the hallway and every five minutes I'd knock on the door to see if she was okay, if she'd read the letter, or if she needed anything" Niki didn't dare move a muscle as he spoke, staying close to the wall and thanking Heeseung for standing between him and Jake "There was a time when she stopped answering the knocks, so I thought she was reading and wanted some time alone."
He was the one who was most in charge of checking up on you in that mansion because Niki's job had always been to take care of the electronic system and every such thing for your father. So working from home was more advantageous, not to mention the mountain of equipment he would have to take on each mission if he had to actively accompany his friends. So he ended up spending most of his time with you.
"Only that took many minutes and I ended up opening the bedroom door at one point" Niki mussed her hair quickly "The window was completely open, I searched under the bed, inside the closet, no sign of her."
"And have you told her father?" Heeseung asked, Niki nodded in agreement.
"I also checked the security cameras, she left with Chloe less than twenty minutes ago."
"Did you put a tracker on Chloe's car too?" Jake asked.
"I couldn't" Niki whined.
"Okay, let's try our luck and search the places they're going. Chloe's house, anything" Heeseung started to walk with Niki, but felt Jake push them both and get out in front.
"You two go check it out" he glared at his friends, looking like he could kill anyone as the orbs darkened and Jake's facial muscles clenched. Niki felt his throat go dry, if this was how he looked at every person he killed, he knew they had all died first of fear before being hit by any of Jake's weapons "I'm going to turn this fucking town upside down until I find Y/n."

five times melissa is possessive
content warnings: mentions of alcohol
Tumblr media
I.
“You get locked out of your computer again?” You asked with a smile as you entered Melissa’s classroom. She had texted you that she needed help with something, so here you were within a minute. “No, I can't find the worksheets I downloaded and I don’t even know what to search for. I’m so frustrated I wanna rip the computer off the desk and chuck it out the window,” The older teacher responded, getting out of her chair to make room for you and leaning against the desk she threatened to do damage to.
Sitting down, you began combing through her files in her downloads folder. You found them immediately, but didn’t wanna bruise her ego by telling her straight away. You leaned back, and a small but ornate picture frame caught your eye. Inside, it held a photo of you and Melissa, standing outside of a restaurant downtown.
You remembered that day like it was yesterday. It was the first time you had hung out with the redhead outside of work, the two of you arrived together meeting everyone to watch a game.
“C’mon hon, I’ll drive you home.”
“Wait! I need a picture, of us.”
Melissa’s laugh was like music to your ears, a symphony of happiness and warmth. “A picture? For what? Proof that I didn’t kidnap ya?”
“No silly, proof that we hung out and had a good time. You know, for the memories.”
She chuckled but accepted, wrapping her arm around your waist as she pulled you in and leaned in close for the picture.
“Perfect. I’ll send it to you.”
“Whatcha lookin’ at over there?” Melissa’s voice pulled you from the memory. “This picture of us, cute that you have it up here,” You told her, tracing your fingers over the details on the frame. She smiled before responding, “Yeah, I like to look at it throughout the day, it reminds me that I still have good things in the world.”
II.
The gym was full of bustling bodies getting ready to hear the announcement Abbott’s fun-loving principal had prepared for the day. Of course right next to each other were Melissa and Barbara, but Melissa’s purse held the seat to her right. Countless times she denied teachers and staff the chair, despite how full the room was getting. She was running out of excuses at this point, even Barbara had to ask. “Who are you holding that seat for?”
As if on cue, you finally came through the double doors. Janine waved you over to her, somehow she saved and scored seats close enough to the front, but a low voice stopped you from continuing in that direction.
“Hey, kid,” Melissa hollered for you and motioned you towards her. Silently, you stood for a second, torn between the better seat and Melissa. Not to mention if you ignored Janine, you’d have to spend the next week making up for it. Upsetting Melissa, you’d have to spend the next...
Quickly you made up your mind and walked towards the redhead, and she moved her purse just in time for you to sit down. You mouthed an apology to your other friend just in time.
“Finally, what took you so long?” Melissa asked you quietly, as Ava could now be seen on stage.
“Sorry, I was trying to finish up the last batch of test grading for the week.” You answered, honestly. Trying to keep your voices down, Melissa and you scooted closer together, leaning into each other’s spaces. Although, you noticed the older woman had stuck her heeled boot around the leg of your chair and you realized you couldn’t move it if you tried.
Despite Ava starting her announcement, Melissa kept talking to you. “It’s okay, hon. I just had to fight off a couple of vultures to keep this seat for ya.” You blushed at the idea of Melissa shooing people away from the chair you currently occupied.
“You didn’t have to do that, y’know. Save the seat for me and all. I’m sure I would’ve found space somewhere. But thank you.” Melissa huffed at your response and tried (barely) to not roll her eyes. “I know, but I like sitting here. I always sit here.”
You squinted at her for a moment, trying to connect the dots between your statement and hers. What did it matter that she liked sitting here? Nonetheless, you started paying attention to whatever the principal was talking about now, in hopes that it had been enough time for her beginning rambles to have subsided.
As the presentation came to an end, slowly everyone shuffled out of the gym and to their respective rooms, and quietly the three of you waited in your chairs for the masses to leave. While people-watching the room, you picked up on the conversation to your left.
“I should’ve known,” Barbara muttered to her friend. You assumed Melissa gave her a confused look, because Barbara not-so-subtly gestured to you and your seat. Melissa just rolled her eyes once again, but turned her attention to you. Her green eyes made you feel a rush of emotions as they met your own. “Hi,” she said quietly, as if she was worried about scaring you off. “Hi,” you replied. “Ready to go?” She asked, grabbing both of your bags off the floor as the two of you stood up.
The walk back to everyone’s classrooms was quiet, but you didn’t miss the look Barbara gave her friend again as she made her way into her own room. “Here’s your bag, hon. I’ll see you at lunch?” Melissa asked, handing you your belongings as she leaned against the doorframe of your classroom. “Yes you will, and thank you.” You replied, trying to hide the blush with your hair as you took your bag from Melissa and finally found peace inside your own classroom.
III.
You walked with your favorite redhead up and down the aisles of the grocery store, picking up ingredients for dinner tonight. After having a rough day, Melissa offered to make you dinner. You agreed, but only if she’d let you be there for every part, including the store. Usually the Italian liked keeping every part of cooking to herself, but she found herself enjoying sharing it with you. Even the mundane aspects like the grocery store were turned into such a lovely time between the two of you.
“I’ll go pick out the onions for the sauce, last time I left the job to someone else I regretted it. Would you mind picking out the wine hon? I’ll meet ya over there and then we can check out.” Melissa asked before leaving the aisle the two of you were in.
“Sure, see you over there,” You replied, and the two of you split ways momentarily. Taking your time, you slowly went down the first aisle of wines, reading each label carefully. Even though Melissa always trusted you with the wine, you were nervous every time. Down the second aisle, a gentleman approached you.
“Need help finding anything ma’am?” He asked. You took a step back from the wines before replying.
“Oh, no, thank you. My friend will be here in just a moment.” You went back to scanning the bottles, but the employee continued talking.
“I see you’re looking at our Bogle merlot! You know there’s a great winery with a merlot that has a very similar palette.”
“That’s nice, is it close by?” You asked to be nice, but didn’t bother looking at the man.
“It is, I know this area very well. Grew up here my whole life.” He replied. A couple minutes passed like this, him grasping at straws to continue the conversation and you completely disinterested. Finally, you grabbed a bottle and started walking away.
“Y’know if that’s all you’re getting I can check you out over here!” He offered. Before you could deny him yourself, a familiar voice spoke up from behind the two of you.
“She’s with me actually, we were just leaving,” Melissa announced her presence and began walking towards the two of you. You hoped the employee couldn’t read her as well as you could, but based on his wide eyes, your hope fell flat. It was clear the redhead was annoyed, and annoyed at him no less. She refused to break eye contact with him, glaring the entire time. When she caught up to you, she didn’t bother slowing down as she looped her arm with yours and continued to the checkout line.
“Took long enough Mel,” You teased, hoping to calm her down. Her lack of response told you it didn’t work. “I’m excited for dinner tonight, and I hope you liked the wine I picked out.”
“I’m sure I will, and I hope that guy loses his job here so he can stop preying on pretty girls that come by to get wine for their dinner plans,” She spat, but not at you. She was good at never making it at you.
“Oh calm down, babe. He was just doing his job,” You lied. You knew he was being a little too nice to you, but Melissa didn’t need to know those details.
“Well he was doing it too well for my liking.”
“I’ll make sure to never leave your side at the grocery store again, that way if another too good employee comes by you can stop them for me,” You joked. Melissa smiled again, and it was a beautiful sight to see.
“Good, I don’t like getting mean in front of ya.”
“Yes, you do!” You laughed. Melissa loved getting an attitude in front of you. She knew you liked it just as much as she did.
          “Yeah, I guess I do.”
IV.
Melissa knew she had a jealous streak, and when it came to you, a possessive streak as well. Most of the time neither of you minded, it made you feel special and the redhead feel wanted. Occasionally, Melissa had a hard time containing her emotions, especially the feelings she has towards you. She hated when those came to the surface.
So she sat, filled with jealousy and self-pity, as she watched you ignore her existence throughout the entire lunch period. Usually, you sat right next to her, she could talk about her morning and you would listen, occasionally offer advice. She loved getting to hear your version of your morning, since it was usually very dramatic and made her giggle, always.
Not today, though. Today, you were too occupied with the new librarian. Instead of listening to Melissa rambling, you were listening to him. She knew you didn’t like men very much, but it didn’t matter. The fact that you didn’t even greet her and there was only ten minutes left of lunch was enough to ruin her mood. Before the bell rang, Melissa sighed and packed up her things as quickly as she could. She said goodbye to Barbara, but not to you. If you weren’t going to say hello, she wasn’t going to say goodbye. She did, however, give you a dirty look at the last second before the door shut behind her.
You froze, it had been a long, long time since Melissa has given you a look like that one. Usually it was reserved for serious issues or people she didn’t care for too much, so you started going over the day in your head wondering what was going on with her. This morning you hadn’t seen her, and you hadn’t stopped by to chat with her for lunch yet, so-
There it was. With a sigh of relief you ended your conversations and made your way to the feisty redhead’s classroom. Instead of knocking, you slowly opened the door and allowed yourself in.
“Hi lovely, how was your lunch? I didn’t get a chance to talk to you so I wanted to stop by before grabbing the kiddos,” You announced your presence to the other woman, which went almost ignored. It wasn’t until you made it all the way to her desk that she spoke to you.
“Lunch was fine, I noticed you were busy with the fresh new hire so I kept my distance. Seemed like you needed it,” She responded shortly. She knew what she was doing was wrong, but she couldn’t help it. She wanted your attention desperately, even if it was negative.
“Melissa...” You started, waiting for her to meet your gaze before continuing. She looked at you with anger, but you knew her, you knew that look. The only other time it happened was when you ditched your plans with her for an impromptu tinder date that went poorly. (She never let you live that mistake down, by the way). She was hurt, her feelings were hurt and she didn’t want to tell you.
“Why are you yelling at me? Is it because I didn’t talk to you all day?” You asked with a hint of teasing in your voice, enough to let Melissa know you were serious but not upset with her. She nodded, still having trouble admitting exactly what was going on inside the beautiful mind of hers.
“You know just because I’m friends with other people doesn’t mean I love you any less. And if you wanted to talk to me, you could’ve done so.”
Melissa sat there for a moment, digesting your words slowly. She looked away before responding. “I know, I just…It’s hard. I want your attention but I don’t want to ask for it. If you’re not giving it to me then I just think you don’t want to anymore.”
“Mel, no, no.” You stepped closer into her bubble and leaned against her desk. “I’ll stop anything I’m doing for you. Just ask, if I’m not showering you with enough love and affection already.” She smiled at that, thankful to realize you weren’t that mad at her.
“Okay, sorry for snapping at you hon. I won’t do it again,” Melissa looked up at you through her eyelashes and pouted out her bottom lip. You knew it would probably happen again, but you didn’t care. After a few months of nonstop flirting and teasing, you figured out Melissa returned some sort of feelings for you. However, it was just as clear that she was scared of whatever this was. Every time the two of you got close to having that conversation, she backed away. You could practically see the words falling off her lips before she would swallow them again. So you remained patient with her, she was worth waiting for. That much you knew.
“It’s okay my love, just save the glare for the other guy next time, yeah?” You playfully shoved her shoulder to punctuate your sentence, which got you an eye roll from the Italian. “Yeah, yeah, you’re fine.” You gave her one more sincere smile and hopped off the desk to go back to your own classroom.
“Hon?” Melissa’s voice stopped you at the door.
“Yeah?”
“I love you too.”
V.
It had been a few weeks since Melissa’s last “outburst,” if you would even call it that. But the “days since last incident” counter was about to go down to zero.
Melissa sat at the bar, waiting for your drink and hers, as she watched you float between your friends. She let her green eyes roam over your figure, the way your dress hugged your skin so tightly, she wished it was her own hands. The way you so effortlessly swayed your hips to the music, like you didn’t even realize it was happening. The older woman was so mesmerized, she almost missed the bartender setting down the two drinks beside her. As soon as she got sight though, she grabbed them and made her way over to you.
Out of the corner of your eye, there she was, beautiful as ever. It didn’t matter if it was the alcohol or Melissa, but you felt incredible.
“Thank you beautiful, what do I owe ya?” You asked as you grabbed your drink from your friend’s hand.
“How about a dance?” She answered your question with a question. Melissa let you take a couple sips before taking the drink back and dropping them off with your friends. As she turned around, the woman was about as red as her hair when she saw a man coming up behind you getting ready to try and dance.
You don’t know whose hands were on you first, but very quickly you were behind Melissa as she was staring down a much taller man.
“Can we help you?” She yelled more than she asked, keeping an arm over your side as she kept you behind her. You knew what was about to happen, the stranger was going to say something sly, Melissa would say something worse, and you’d calm her down before getting her on the dance floor again. Something in you decided to change that routine though, usually you stayed quiet when she got this way, stayed clear from the path of Schemmenti rage and watched thoroughly entertained.
Instead of staying out of her way this time and waiting for her, you leaned into it. How could you not when Melissa was getting ready to fight someone over you? You placed your hand gently over hers and rested your chin on her shoulder, immediately noticing her eyes flash over to you. Her grip tightened around your thigh in response.
“I was just trying to dance with a pretty girl, didn’t know that was a problem,” The stranger spoke and took a few steps back, throwing his hands up in false surrender.
“It is.” Melissa said, about to take a step forward, unwilling to let him get away. You felt her body shift against you and quickly wrapped your left arm around her, holding her against you.
“Baby, should we step outside for a second?” You asked Melissa, making a point to let her feel your breath linger for a second. She might get onto you for making her so flustered later, but that would be better than getting kicked out for a bar fight.
Without answering, she took your hand in hers and led you to the back exit, ignoring the questioning looks from your friends behind you. The cold wind felt sobering against your hot skin, although your hand was kept warm by Melissa’s. She was gripping it so tightly still, you wondered why she was still so frustrated.
“Mel? Are you okay?” You asked. Letting go of her hand you stood in front of her, gently brushing a few stray hairs behind her ear. Her cheeks were still so red, hands clammy, and you don’t think you’ve ever seen her look at you so wide-eyed before.
“I...” She started. Melissa looked at your lips for a moment before returning to your gaze. “He can’t touch you like that.”
“I don’t even think he got a chance before you were back over there. Besides, why can’t he?” You challenged her. It was risky, hopefully with a reward.
She tightened her grip on your hand and pulled you close so your bodies were flush together. Sure, you knew a couple tricks to make Melissa blush or get flustered, but she was exceptionally good at it. Her fingers against your lower back started moving back and forth, sending chills up your spine. Her other hand let go of yours and found itself getting tangled in your hair.
“Because dolcezza, can he touch you like this? Hm? Would you be this needy for anyone else? You’re mine, you know you are.” The older woman’s words sent heat through your body.
     “Prove it then.”
As quickly as the words were out of your mouth, Melissa’s lips were on yours. She was gentle at first, giving you an opportunity to stop if you want. When your own hands found themselves reaching to touch her more, she knew she got you. Her hand in your hair tugged a bit, and when you moaned in response Melissa took the opportunity to taste you. Feeling her groans against you, because of you, was a new high you would forever be chasing. Her grip on you was tight, she was unrelenting, not wanting to let you out of her sight again.
It was like the past few weeks of Melissa keeping her mouth shut had built up inside of her, she needed you, and she needed you to know that. Feeling herself getting too worked up, she gave you a few more kisses before pulling away. You couldn’t help but whine when she did so, missing her lips already.
“Yknow, I might keep letting people flirt with me if it means you kiss me like that every time,” You softly spoke. Melissa couldn’t help but laugh at that, even though the both of you knew she would not put up with that. Certainly not anymore. You were finally hers.

FLASHBACK: 1 YEAR AGO
“Is this yours?”
You had been rummaging through Paige’s closet, looking for a clean oversized shirt to wear to sleep. You two often slept over at each other’s place, to the point where your clothes were so mixed up you guys basically shared the same wardrobe. Unfortunately, Paige wasn’t the most organized person, so you were huffing and puffing as you hunted through the piles in the drawers.
The shirt you were holding up had LVN Volleyball Camp splayed across the front, so you knew it definitely wasn’t Paige’s. It was really big though, so you were curious as to whose it was. Just to know if you could wear it or not, you convinced yourself. Not because you were trying to confirm your fears - that this was another girl who Paige had held that wasn’t you.
Paige didn’t look up from her phone when you asked your question, so you crumpled the shirt up into a ball and tossed it at her head. You were no basketball player, but the balled up shirt smacked her on target, right in the face, and you fought back a self satisfied smile.
Paige finally looked up, giving you one of her soft smiles that tugged at your heartstrings. You loved when Paige looked at you like that, all gentle and affectionate, with half of her mouth turned up into a close mouthed grin that you knew so well.
“The shirt,” you gestured at it.
“Oh.” She looked down, unfolding the shirt and studying it before giving out a laugh. “Shit, sorry, that’s Stacy’s. I don’t know how it ended up in my closet. She was just here yesterday.” She folded the shirt into a neat little square and placed it next to her on the bed. “We must’ve been getting a little bit too wild,” she smirked, waggling her eyebrows at me.
Your heart sunk. Yesterday? You mean, you knew Paige talked to a lot of people, but she usually didn’t talk much about it, probably because she knows you get grossed out with too many details. Your chest stinging, you went to sit on the bed next to her. You didn’t wanna find a shirt anymore. All you wanted to do was go to sleep after a long day.
“What’s up? What’s got you being so emo?” Paige got down to lie her head in your lap, looking up at you with her bright blue eyes. Her was nose scrunched slightly, in the way that she does when she’s happy, and she reached up to play with the ends of your hair, twirling the strands between her fingers.
“Nothing. Just tired and moody,” you lied. You drummed your fingers against your thigh.
Paige smirked. “You really need to get laid, Y/N,” she laughed.
You managed to muster out a weak half smile in response to her words, trying to shove down the itchy pain that rose in your heart. “Shut up, Bueckers.”
“Make me.”
You rolled my eyes at her senseless teasing. “You’re such a flirt,” you groaned. Pushing her off your lap, you got up to look for your charger. You could feel Paige’s eyes on you as you moved about her room. Her legs were splayed out, and she was slumped on the bed. You hated when she did that, just looked at you. It felt like she was studying you all bare under a microscope.
The dynamic between the two of you had definitely shifted since last month, ever the drunken incident on the Big East championship night. You had mumbled apologies the morning after, when she had swung by before practice to make sure you were alright. She didn’t really listen to them, shoving you in that good natured way and assuring you that you guys were “chill like that” and that she could never be really mad at you.
But ever since then, there’d been a tension between the two of you. It spiked in moments like this, where she would start shamelessly flirting with you, trying to get a rise out of you. You didn’t mind much, per se, until you really thought about it and realized there was no meaning behind her flirting. But that was a disappointing reality you were trying to ignore.
“Come back to bed,” Paige called out. This time, you couldn’t tell if she’d meant for it to sound so sexual, but you crawled back into the bed where Paige was bundled up under the sheets.
“You look like a kid,” you giggled, “all wrapped up like a burrito.”
Paige rolled her eyes, a small smile playing at her lips. You felt her grab your waist and pull you closer so now you were both under the mountain of blankets and pillows she had formed. “You’re so warm,” she mumbled sleepily, pressing her forehead against your shoulder.
Both of you knew this was not how normal best friends slept together have a sleepover. But neither of you cared. This was where you felt most comfortable in the world, with Paige’s arm slung across your chest and one of her legs intertwined between yours. Her face was buried in your neck now, and her hair tickled your cheeks.
You could get used to this forever, you thought as you went to sleep.
——————————
Your heart thrummed with anticipation. Today was the day UConn would face off against Louisville in the Final Four of March Madness. You missed Paige; the last time you saw her was when you slept over two days ago. Ever since then, she’d be busy, understandably so. Basketball was her life, and she dedicated all of herself to the sport in times of competition like this.
Paige had gotten you a court-side ticket using one of the family spots allotted to her. Only her dad, step-mom, and Drew could make it to the game; her mom’s side of the family were on a vacation in Spain. On one side of you was Drew, who was happily bouncing in his seat, wearing one of his sister’s jerseys that was adorably big for him, and on the other side was Kayla, who’d gotten this game off but still wanted to watch anyways to support the girls.
As you watched the game, you oscillated between moments of pure joy and happiness when Paige sunk one of her 3s, moments of anger when one of the girls got fouled on without getting any calls for it, and moments of uncertainty when Louisville scored another point and the UConn girls tried to fight off their dejection from showing on their faces.
But you started to stay in the realm of uncertainty once Louisville started gaining, leading by 12 at the end of the third quarter.
“Are they gonna lose, Y/N?” Drew turned to you with a hopeful look in his eyes. You swallowed the knot in your throat. Basketball was everything to this team, and they’d worked so hard to get here. They didn’t deserve to lose, not when they were this close to the national championship.
“I hope not, buddy,” you responded quietly, and ruffled his hair. For the last quarter, Drew gripped your hand, swinging his legs anxiously as the game unfolded.
Despite the team’s best efforts, UConn fell to Louisville, 75-66, and the girls walked off the court, pain fresh in their eyes, their necks steeped with sweat and jerseys sticking damp to their chest. They moved tiredly, some of them being collected for brief post-game interviews while all of the others headed back to the locker rooms.
You made eye contact with Paige, and she pursed her lips, shaking her head sadly before slinging a towel around her neck and following the rest of the girls out.
“She looks so sad,” Drew’s voice was quiet next to you. You could tell he was upset too.
“It’s okay, buddy,” you assured him. “You know what? I bet they’re still selling the pretzels outside. Wanna come with me and see if they have any more churro bites?” Drew’s face lit up at that, and he eagerly shot up from his seat and grabbed your hand.
Paige’s dad, Bob, shot you a grateful smile. “We’ll find Paige, talk to her. You guys join us after, alright?”
You nodded, leading Drew out. To your luck, the pretzel stand had one more scoop of churro bites left that the man gave to you for free since they were closing down.
“Good, Drew?” You reached around him and stole one of the churro bites, popping one in your mouth.
“Y/N!” He groaned, sending me a fake glare. “Now you owe me.”
“I brought you all the way over here for pretzels and I owe you?” You gasped in offense, folding your arms and sending him a fake glare back.
He nodded solemnly. “Yeah. Now you owe me a piggy back ride.”
You laughed. “Okay, hop on,” you agreed, bending down. Drew cheered and jumped on your back, causing you to stumble forward. Both of you giggled as you straightened yourself, and you carried Drew all the way down to the locker rooms.
A security guard stood in the entrance to the hall of the locker rooms, a bored look in his eyes. As you tried to pass, he raised a hand. “Sorry miss,” he stated in a monotonous voice. “Players only.”
“It’s alright, she’s with me,” a voice called out. You looked up to see Paige at the end of the hall, her hair wet and tied up in a loose bun. Even after having just played a tough game, she looked unbelievably gorgeous, her cheeks rosy from the exertment from earlier.
“Paigey!” Drew clambered off my back and barreled into Paige, squeezing his little arms around her waist. Paige, ever the big sister, managed to push aside her feelings from the Final Four loss and look happy for Drew, whom she hadn’t seen in months.
“Hey, bud,” she said quietly, bending down to give him a proper hug. “I missed you.”
They talked in low tones for a moment, Paige smiling fondly at her little brother, before Azzi came along from the locker rooms and stole Drew away to meet the other girls.
Now it was just you and Paige in the hall. She stood up, and you moved to her. Before you knew it, she was in your arms, hugging you so tight you could barely breathe. You wrapped your arms around her, one hand coming up to play with the baby hairs at the nape of her neck, an effort to do whatever possible to comfort her.
“Hey,” you turned your head so your mouth was next to her ear. You whispered in her ear gently, “It’s not your fault.”
Paige drew back, her eyes glassy. Breathing shakily, she said, “All those 3s that I missed. Geno was counting on me. He said I had to step up since Azzi was injured, but I didn’t step up. I missed so many.”
I gripped her waist. “Look at me,” I said firmly. When she looked up to made eye contact, I brought my hands up to hold her face so that she couldn’t look away. “What about all the points that you did make? And all the plays you set up for your teammates? I don’t know much basketball, but I watched you out there, and you played with so much fierceness and grit. You played so goddamn good. Don’t be ashamed. At all.”
Paige reluctantly nodded, before pulling me into another hug. We stood there silently, her face buried in my neck and my arms hooked around her waist, until one of the UConn team assistants came bounding the hall.
“Uh,” he scratched his neck nervously as his eyes flitted between the two of us. “Sorry to interrupt, but it’s time for Paige to do press.”
Paige groaned. She stepped back, separating our bodies. “Come over later?” She whispered. “Please?” Her eyes searched mine, all hopeful. She was hurting, and hurting bad.
“Of course, P.” I squeezed her hand before stepping back too, letting the assistant shuffle her away to the press hall.

5 times you and Miguel walked away from each other and 1 time you didn't

Tumblr media
You’re having your first lazy day in forever. It’s the first day in recent memory that you didn’t have something to do or somewhere to be. You’re just going to hang out in your apartment and watch your favorite shows or read for fun for once or whatever else you feel like doing. Because you don’t have to go anywhere, you don’t even take a shower, opting to stay in your comfy pajamas, not bothering with any makeup or hair effort, as you lounge around.
You have the place to yourself now, but you share it with your twin brother Alex, the two of you lucky enough to go to the same university.
When you eventually hear his keys scratching at the door, you’re sprawled on the couch reading a novel you’d left half-finished for ages despite actually really enjoying it. School really had a way of making you not read. Or at least never full books.
As Alex opens the door, you’re surprised to hear him talking to someone else. You see his unexpected guest a moment later from your spot on the couch, your college apartment rather small after all. And you’re mortified. Miguel. Alex’s best friend, university soccer team superstar, ridiculously attractive Miguel.
God, why did Alex not warn you he was bringing someone over? All it took was a quick message, for fuck’s sake. And Miguel of all people? Ugh. Well, it wasn’t like you could tell him. “Hey, brother dear, I have a huge crush on your best friend, so can I please get a warning next time he’ll be around? You know, especially so I’m not looking like a total mess when he shows up?
He’d been coming over a lot recently actually. He and Alex were both on the soccer team and happened to share a few classes too, so their schedules really lined up. Usually, it was nice to get to see him. It’s not like either of them paid that much attention to you when they were hanging out, but Miguel was nice to look at. Even now, they seemed like they were coming back from a casual soccer match or something, and he still looked amazing. His thick, dark hair was messy in the way that made you want to run your hands through it; his t-shirt hugged his unreasonably broad chest and shoulders perfectly, and his sweatpants — fuck, his sweatpants — his ass looked miraculous as he turned to put his gym bag down.
Miguel’s looking at you as he and Alex step into the living room. “It’s Saturday, Y/N, and the weather’s finally fucking nice. Why’re you reading a book? You’re such a nerd,” Alex snaps as he plops onto the couch next you, pushing your legs off to make room.
“I’m a nerd because I’m reading a book? Am I am tomboy because I’m not wearing a dress, too, or are we keeping it to one stupid superficial stereotype?”
Miguel chuckles as he sits on Alex’s other side. “Cut him some slack, Y/N, he took a soccer ball to the head today. Might be making him even more of an idiot than usual.”
You can’t help but worry; you love the idiot after all.
“You okay? Was it bad?” you’re asking as you run your hand over his head looking for bumps. “I’m fine, mom,” he mocks, pushing you away. “And you? You asshole,” he accuses Miguel playfully. “‘Took a ball to the head’?” he repeats, then turning to you adds, “It was him that kicked it!” Miguel starts laughing.
“It was the perfect setup, man. Not my fault you were distracted.” “Whatever,” Alex says as he reaches for the video game remotes. Knowing them, it was time for FIFA.
You’re eager to hide with how you look right now anyway, so you get up to head into your room. “We didn’t mean to kick you out,” Miguel starts kindly. “ You don’t have to go; you were clearly comfortable here.” “Clearly comfortable”? God that sounded bad in your head. He was “super hot”; you were “clearly comfortable.”
“Thanks, Miguel. It’s fine. I was going to —“ but you don’t finish your excuse as you trip on the remote’s charging wire as you step across, falling unceremoniously to your face right in front of them.
“Mierda!” Miguel yells.
Alex immediately asks, “You okay?,” but it’s Miguel who’s up and over you in the same instant.
“You alright?” he asks softly as his hands grab your hips to help you up.
His hands on you were the last thing you needed right now. So much for composure. “Fine. Really,” you say, your breath shaky. You’re kneeling on your living room floor; Miguel’s squatting in front of you, close; his hands haven’t left your body even though you’re no longer prone. He just watches you closely, eyes beautiful and concerned. You stare back into them, and after a couple more shaky breaths finally manage to stand up and step away, looking anywhere but at him. “‘M fine,” you repeat. You turn away hurriedly and go the few steps to your room. Once safely behind closed doors, your face scrunches and your stomach sinks at the sheer embarrassment.
~
It’s been days since Miguel was at your apartment, and part of you is happy for the lack of pressure but another part of you still gets a funky feeling in her gut at the idea that the last memory of you he had was of a clumsy mess. He and Alex have a game today, and pretending to convince yourself that you just felt like it today, you make yourself up more than usual for it. You’re actually pretty happy with your look as you head out to meet some friends at the match.
They win. Miguel scores. Twice. Alex’s defense is probably the main reason for their clean sheet.
So, hyped up on adrenaline and victory, they’re laughing and messing around with their teammates as a bunch of people approach the sidelines to congratulate them. Alex spots you and makes a goofy face, always so playful when he’s happy. He jogs over to you and gives you a huge hug.
“Stop, you’re so sweaty!” you squeal. He just holds you tighter and rubs his sweaty hair on you, laughing. When he finally pulls away, Miguel is standing right next to him, smiling at the two of you. “Do I get a hug too?” he teases. “I scored two more goals than he did!”
You’re not sure if he’s kidding, and you’re sure the chuckle you give in response is somewhat tense.
But, stepping toward him, you just say, “Congratulations,” and wrap your arms around his shoulders without getting too close. Damn, they were like boulders. Miguel wraps his arms around your waist and closes the distance you’d maintained, giving you a surprisingly intimate embrace. You’re struck by the feeling of him around you. He’s sweaty, too, and you can smell his musk, but instead of off-putting, you find it incredibly arousing. You can feel the rise and fall of his breathing where your chest is flush with his. He’s so warm, and you just want to breathe him in and trace every ridge of his body. But the hug is already lingering too long to be normal, and you pull back a bit awkwardly. Miguel is still looking at you, a subtle smile on his face.
He seems about to say something when a high pitched squeal right next to you startles you.
“Miguel!” a very pretty girl yells at him as she approaches, unabashedly jumping onto his back. She’s in a cheer uniform. “Oh my god, you were so good!” Miguel’s so sturdy, her jumping on him didn’t throw him off physically, but his face looks a little flustered. “Uh, thanks,” he says politely, putting her down. She just giggles and grabs his arm as she compliments him again.
You feel so awkward watching this, so you just turn around and walk away. You don’t see Miguel looking after you.
~
You’re at the after party with a couple of your friends. The soccer team was quite popular, and the victory parties tended to be good. You’re mostly having fun, but you can’t help but keep looking over to where Miguel is. Man of the match and man with that face, he was obviously the center of attention. People were coming up to congratulate him left and right. He handled it all so graciously. It shocked you how there was no arrogance in his demeanor; he was just the easygoing life of the party.
You wanted to go talk to him too, but you’d already congratulated him and didn’t know what else you would say. The last thing you wanted was to embarrass yourself again. You could go talk to your brother, who was right next to him, but he was busy flirting, and you didn’t want to ruin it for him.
A bunch of people are dancing in the open space between you and Miguel, and the chaos lets you sneak long looks at him without his noticing. But when your friend leans over and asks, “Who do you keep looking at?,” you realize you have to be less obvious. “No one, just curious who Alex is flirting with,” you lie, proud of how quick you were with it.
“You a jealous, protective sister type?” she laughs.
“No, just curious.” “Is he?” “What?” “Protective?”
“Um, sometimes, depends. Why?”
“Because that guy over there keeps checking you out.” She nods toward an okay-looking guy chatting with someone on the edge of the dance floor. A second later, he was indeed looking over at you. “You should go talk to him!” “Oh, I don’t know. I’m not so interested.” “Why not? He’s hot! I’m pretty sure he’s on the team too. You don’t have to marry him, Y/N, just go dance! You’ve been weirdly tense all night.”
You look over again, and your eyes meet. Before you can do anything else, he makes the decision for you, walking over to you.
“Hey.” “Um, hi.” You exchange names and pleasantries, and he asks you if you want to dance. Without thinking about it, you glance toward the person you really wish you were dancing with. To your surprise, Miguel is already looking toward you. He looks less happy than before. You look back at this guy quickly, hoping neither of them noticed.
You feel slightly bad thinking this, using this guy you weren’t super interested in, but you couldn’t help but feel it’d be nice if Miguel saw a side of you that might make him think of you differently, not just as Alex’s sister. It’s just a dance anyway, so, you accept the offer and head to the dance floor.
You fall into a rhythm with the music, with the guy. The dancing is fun; the guy is fine. Your back is to Miguel, and you can’t resist spinning to catch another glimpse, doing it seamlessly as you keep dancing. Your breath catches when your eyes meet his.
Miguel watching you from across the room is doing much more to turn you on than anything your current dance partner is doing, but you channel your new energy into your movements. It’s not a well thought out decision, though in the back of your mind you know who it’s for, but you start moving a bit more suggestively. You let your hips follow the music, let your hands come up to your hair as your body rolls rhythmically. Feeling especially bold, you even manage to meander closer to where Miguel is, giving him a better view.
Unbeknownst to you, this unfortunately also makes Alex, now unoccupied, notice you for the first time. You don’t hear him leaning over to Miguel and saying, “Gross. I hate seeing my sister with random guys. Let’s go get more drinks.” He drags him away, and Miguel, unable to come up with a good reason not to follow, does.
The next time you spin, all you catch is the backs of their heads.
~
The following week, you’re coming home from classes, and all you can think about is eating. You’d had to skip lunch to finish an assignment and couldn’t wait for dinner.
When you enter your apartment, you find Miguel sitting on your couch.
“Hey,” he greets. “Hi.” He’s sitting on the edge of the sofa closest to you, and he adorably shifts over to make room, as if you couldn’t just go around. You weren’t planning on sitting anyway, but now that he’s wordlessly extended an invitation, you do. “Where’s Alex?”
“Went to take a shower. We’re gonna play a couple games when he’s done.” He gestures toward the video game console. “Are the remotes charged?” you joke. “I hear it’s a hazard to have the wires across the living room floor.” Miguel chuckles lightly at your self-deprecating humor. He’s turned toward you, sitting in the middle of the couch, his elbow on the backrest as he occasionally messes with his luscious hair. “I felt so bad that day. Taking over your space and tripping you. When you looked so peaceful when we got here.”
“Don’t feel bad,” you laugh, amused but also masking your stirring feelings at the fact that he had thought about it at all. “I was just a mess that day. And I wouldn’t call my pajamas peaceful, just comfortable. In my defense, though, I wasn’t expecting company.”
“I liked your pajamas,” he teases, and you roll your eyes. “What? I did! I’m all for comfy clothing; have you not noticed 90% of my wardrobe is gym clothes?”
“Yes, well, you can get away with it. You’re a guy, and you look like that,” you say, gesturing at his body before you really realize what you’re saying. You tense as soon as you do. It just slipped out, the conversation getting weirdly easy and comfortable with him. “Like what?” he asks, but he’s smirking, knowing what you meant. You just roll your eyes again. “No, c’mon, chula, like what?” He lifts his eyebrows in challenge, mirth in his eyes. You’re too busy reeling from the pet name to have mental energy to come up with a retort. You’re grateful for what would’ve otherwise been embarrassing: your stomach grumbling. Miguel looks at your stomach and giggles. “Hungry?”
“Starving,” you say, taking the escape route and walking to the adjoining kitchen. He follows. “You can get away with it too, you know,” he says nonchalantly. You think you know what he means but look back at him questioningly. “The clothes. You always look good.”
You’re glad you’re not facing him, your expression probably revealing your excitement. “Thanks.” “You’re welcome.” He leans on your counter. “So what are you having?” “I don’t know, whatever we have. Haven’t had time to go to the store.” You’re rummaging through your cabinets. “I can make you something,” he offers. You stop and look at him. “What? I’m a great cook,” he shrugs defensively. “Have you never had my tamales?”
“It’s not about you being good or not,” you giggle. “There’s no reason you should have to cook when you’re just here to hang out.”
He just shrugs again, but there’s a tinge of shyness in his typically confident facade.
You turn to open your fridge, and he comes up right next to you. “Oh shit, you guys have jarritos. Can I steal one?”
“Yeah, of course,” you laugh. “Grab whatever you want.”
You didn’t think he would immediately… As you bend over to grab something from the drawers, Miguel reaches up to grab the soda, leaning forward. Both of you moving simultaneously, your ass presses firmly against his crotch. You both freeze in panic, prolonging the position, before you jump up at the accidental contact. His and your “sorry”’s and “I didn’t mean to”’s get jumbled together in the colossally awkward moment. Miguel looks down, then back up again looking startled. He scurries around to the other side of the counter, it now separating you. “Jesus, Miguel, I didn’t do it on purpose! You don’t have to put a barricade between us; it’s not like I’m gonna jump you!” “No, no, it’s not that! Fuck, it’s, uh, fuck…” He looks lost for words. His hand comes to his face, covering it in resigned embarrassment. His voice is a mumble through his obstructing hand, “I’ve a bd’ve uh sitch-ation.”
“What?” He uncovers his face with an exasperated sigh. “I have… a bit of a… situation,” he whispers, looking down.
“Oh… oh!” you say, realization hitting you. Probably largely because of the awkward tension, at least partially at the idea of you giving Miguel O’Hara a boner, you start cracking up. He just stares at you, deadpan, his hands coming to his hips. “It’s not funny.” “It’s a little funny.” His glare cracks the tiniest bit.
“Okay, maybe it’s a little funny. But it’s your fault!”
“I didn’t mean to!”
“Didn’t mean to what?” Alex asks nonchalantly, coming out of his room, lazily drying his hair.
“Nothing!” you and Miguel say simultaneously.
“Okay… should I just pretend that wasn’t really suspicious?”
“Yes,” you tell him. “It’s nothing, really. Just me being clumsy again.”
His eyes are still skeptical, but Alex just chuckles and nods, letting it go at the look on your face. He heads to the couch with an easy “C’mon, man” at Miguel. Miguel follows, giving you a sideways glance and tense smile. When he sits, he immediately puts a cushion on his lap. You grab the first thing that looks edible in your fridge and head to your room.
~
Two weekends later finds you at another soccer team party. They’d lost this time, 2-1. Miguel scored their sole goal, and the other team’s second had been a sketchy penalty. If the victory parties were good, the defeat ones were wild. Most of the players, Miguel and Alex among them, were drowning their sorrows, especially after such a disheartening defeat.
You weren’t a player, but you had your own sorrows to drown, and you weren’t stopping yourself from doing just that. You’d hardly seen Miguel in almost two weeks, and the few times you had, he’d been cold, keeping interactions mainly to greetings and goodbyes. You didn’t know if you’d done something wrong, if he was still caught up with your little awkward encounter, or if you were just making it up, your feelings for him needing some outlet. Making up stories by constantly obsessing about him was as good as outlet as you could get sometimes. Alcohol was a better one now.
A while into the party, you’re at the bar for your… you lost count… numberth tequila shot. You down it, lick the salt off your hand, and stick the lime in your mouth, cringing.
Your eyes are still closed when you feel a hand on your shoulder. You open them and see Miguel standing beside you. “Maybe switch to water, huh, guapa?” he tells you.
“Why? M’fine,” you slur.
“Maybe, but you won’t be if you keep this pace up.” “And how would you know?”
“Just noticed,” he shrugs.
You squint your eyes accusingly at him. You didn’t know what you’d feel next time you talked to him, but you hadn’t expected to feel this angry.
“You notice me enough to watch how much I drink but not to say more than two words at a time to me for weeks?” He looks surprised. “Y/N…”
You cross your arms and lift your eyebrows in an implied “what?”
When he doesn’t say anything, you just walk past him. You end up walking through the dance floor, and though it wasn’t your plan, you kind of like moving to the music. You’re drunk enough to the lack the inhibitions to just dance alone. You’re enjoying yourself, not even bothering to look back and see if Miguel was still there. A bit later though, you startle as you feel a hand on your ass. You turn and find a random guy you’ve never met before, smiling at you disgustingly drunkenly. You’re taken aback, your mind already a bit slow from the alcohol, so you haven’t decided yet how to tell him to fuck off by the time Miguel is in front of you shoving him away. He’s not overly aggressive but, even drunk, easily moves the guy away from you with an angry “What the hell, man?”
The other guy looks seriously scared and just lifts his hands with a pathetic “sorry, Miguel.”
“Fucking better be, what the hell is wrong with you?” The other guy stumbles away. Miguel turns towards you, and his expression melts from frightening anger to warm concern in two seconds. “You okay?” he asks, his hands carefully grazing your shoulders. You nod and lean into him. At your seeming comfortable, he lets his arms come around you.
“Thanks,” you whisper in his ear.
“Of course,” he whispers in yours, and it sends a shiver down your entire body. You stare into his eyes, your hands resting on his chest.
“Miguel?”
“Yeah?”
“Wanna dance with me?”
They don’t call it “liquid courage” for nothing.
Miguel considers you for a moment, but a soft smirk is whispered across is sharp features. He nods slowly, and his hands move slightly further down your back. You close your eyes at the sensation of his hands running along your body. You run your hands up his chest slowly and wrap your arms around his neck. When you open your eyes, you see his crimson ones boring into you.
You start moving a bit more as you focus on the music to relieve some of the tension you’re feeling. He follows your lead, and soon you’re dancing together much more easily. As a couple of songs go by, you’re both moving freely, staying close to each other the whole time.
You’re so exhilarated, and he seems as enveloped in you as you are in him, so the next time the beat calls for it, you let your body twist rhythmically in his grasp. Your back is now flush with his chest, your ass on his crotch, your hand reaching behind you on his neck, in his hair. His hands are firm on your hips, and when you roll them against him, you hear his whispered “Fuck, mami” in your ear and feel his arm come around your middle, pulling you into him. His hips move in rhythm with yours. You’ve probably never been so turned on in your entire life. You keep this up for a delicious while. You can feel Miguel is hard through his jeans, but he makes no sign of being embarrassed, just continuing to dance with you with expert hip movements that make your imagination go wild. Of course he’d be an amazing dancer. Of course you’d imagine what else his hips could do.
You twist back in his embrace, coming to face him. He holds you close, and you bring a hand to his face. He leans into your touch. You move your face up slightly, and he seems to be following, moving his down. You’re so close, even think you feel your lips graze his, when someone bumps up against you, making you stumble.
Miguel’s strong arms catch you, but the moment is gone, and a second later, he looks startled.
“You okay?” he asks, stepping back a bit, speaking loudly to keep his distance. “Yeah, I’m fine,” you assure, but he seems off.
“Let’s get some air, huh?”
You follow him outside, the sudden change in ambience making your head spin a little. You lean against the wall, and he puts his hand on your shoulder.
“Sure you’re okay?” You nod but don’t say anything, maybe a bit drunker than you thought, trying to ground yourself. He leans on the wall next to you. His body is warm where it grazes your side. You can feel his gaze intermittently on you. You get a little dizzy again, and you lean onto his shoulder. He just lets you, and you stand like that for a while.
His fingers graze the back of your hand.
“Want me to take you home?”
You nod into his body. He wraps a firm arm around your shoulders and leads you away from the party.
You’re home before you know it, the whole journey a blur dominated by his warmth by your side. When you reach your front door, you lean on it and look up at him. His subtle smile elicits your full one. “Thanks,” you whisper. “’S no problem,” he shrugs. “You’ll be okay?” “Yeah,” you nod. You’re already sobering up. “You?” He chuckles and nods.
“I wasn’t the one downing tequila shots like water,” he teases. Your cheeks warm, and you look down as you chuckle.
“Wasn’t that many…”
He laughs.
“It was, cariño.” Again with the pet names.
“I’m still surprised you noticed.” “I always notice you,” he responds without missing a beat. Your eyes snap up to his, and you see the longing there.
You stare at each other for a heavy moment, then, drunk more on the sensations of your earlier almost-kiss than on alcohol, chasing that feeling, you lean up to try again. Your lips are a breath away from his when he looks down, effectively rejecting your advance. You pull away, mortified.
“Sorry, I… sorry,” you stutter as you scramble for your keys. You turn to your door. “Y/N,” he whispers, his hand holding your wrist softly. “It’s okay,” you say, looking back him, wiping tears from your eyes. “You don’t have to say anything; sorry I misunderstood.”
You quickly go inside and close the door. You lean on it, crying. Miguel, eyes closed, fists clenched, rests his forehead on the opposite side.
~
Miguel doesn’t come around for a while. Even as days pass, you can’t stop thinking about your night together. Confusion, sadness, embarrassment — all mixing together into a terrible cocktail.
Another match day rolls around, and you can’t stomach the idea of watching Miguel play, of potentially having to talk to him after. You tell Alex you’re really sorry to not support him this time, but that you’re not feeling well. He worries over you a while, unhelpfully but adorably emptying your medicine cabinet onto the kitchen counter, looking through stuff, suggesting this and that, telling you to text him anything you needed that he could bring you after.
A while later, you’ve just slumped down onto the couch, when your stomach sinks at the sight you’re met with. There, at the corner of the room, lie his cleats. He’d been cleaning them the night before and had clearly forgotten to put them back in his gym bag.
“Fuck.”
You lift yourself up, grab them, and head over to the stadium.
When you get there, you pound at the locker room door, and it opens — of course, you couldn’t catch a fucking break — to Miguel O’Hara’s gorgeous face. Though he looks at you intently, you can’t quite read his expression. Then he yells over his shoulder, “Ale!”
Alex jogs over and, upon seeing you, lets out the biggest sigh of relief.
“Oh, thank God. I fucking love you.” He reaches for the cleats you’re holding up to him and gives you a  bear hug. “Saved my fucking life, Y/N/N. Thank you.” He kisses your forehead. “You don’t look as sick. You’ll be okay?” He’s clearly in a rush to get back but wants to make sure you’re alright.
You nod and playfully shove his chest, pushing him back into the locker room. “You’re the best!” he yells over his shoulder as he saunters back. Miguel is still just standing there, all geared up for the match. It crosses your sick mind how good the uniform looks on him.
“You’re sick?” he asks.
“Nothing I won’t get over.” You offer him a weak smile. He’s nodding slowly, considering.
“Stay for the match?”
“Miguel, I —“ “Please.” You’ve never heard him plead before. You’re head is nodding before your mind can catch up. He just nods too. “I’ll find you after.” And with that, he jogs back into the locker room.
You’d never known ninety minutes could drag on for eternity, with a half-time’s worth of eternity in between. You’re sure you’re heartbeat was elevated the entire time, your mind and emotions reeling. What was Miguel going to say to you after the match? You had absolutely no read on him during your short interaction before. Then again, apparently you weren’t always great at reading him.
Minute after minute trickles by. At the end of the second half, your team up a goal (yes, Miguel’s), the ref announces an unusually large number of minutes. You moan with everyone else, for your own reasons. What was a potential leveler compared to the leveling of your heart?
Slowly, the minutes pass. The other team builds a mounting attack; they get a good attempt; they miss. The whistle blows; the crowd cheers, and you, you’re frozen in place.
You thaw yourself slowly as the players shake hands, go to their respective huddles. By the time they’re roaming the sidelines freely, you’ve only just managed to leave your seat.
As you descend the bleachers stairs, you catch sight of Miguel. He’s obviously searching, halfheartedly ignoring the congratulations coming from all sides. His eyes eventually meet yours, and as soon as they do, he’s running over to you, meeting you much closer to the bleachers than the field.
He comes to a stop right in front of you and just watches you. You just watch him. “Congratulations,” you say. He chuckles, lightly shaking his head.
“Thanks.”
He takes a step closer to you. “Y/N…” “Yeah?” “I…” “Miguel!” you’re interrupted. “Congratulations! Way to pull it out!” “Thanks, yeah, thank you,” he says hurriedly, looking back over to you. “Listen, I just, I wanted to clear things up after how we left them.” You nod, worrying your bottom lip, your arms wrapping around you defensively.
“I didn’t want you to think that —“
“Congratulations, Miguel! Did it again, man!” And a slap on the back.
“Uh-huh, yeah, thank you,” Miguel responds, turning away, approaching rudeness. “For fuck’s sake,” he says, much more softly. “C’mere.” He grabs your arm and drags you around the bleachers, stopping when you have a semblance of cover. He’s looking around to make sure no one else is about to talk to him, and his worried looks right after he’s just won makes you laugh. The sound draws his attention fully back to you. He smiles at seeing you smiling.
“Where can a guy get a little privacy, huh?” he jokes. “Probably not still by the field where he just scored the winning goal, I’m guessing,” you tease. He chuckles. Then he takes a deep, sobering breath. “Listen, Y/N…”
His tone sounds apologetic, and it makes you immediately think the worst. He probably just didn’t want you to be embarrassed. Wanted to fix things so they wouldn’t be awkward if he hung around, which he’d obviously want to do given Alex was his best friend.
Already fighting back tears, wanting to beat him to the punch to save face in whatever way you could at this point, you cut him off. “Miguel, you don’t have to explain anything or anything. I’m sorry I made more out of a good time than I should have. Please don’t let me keep you from hanging out with my brother even if I’m around, and I hope we can still be friends.” “What? No, that’s not… This isn’t about Alex. I mean, well it is a little bit.” He’s looking unsure. “Just keep things how they were before. It’s all fine.” “Is that what you want?” He looks serious. “What do you mean?” “Is that what you want? To keep things how they were before? To still be friends?”
“I… well… it’s what you want, isn’t it?” “I never said that.” “You didn’t have to. I tried to kiss you, and you pretty much said no to that. Twice.”
“I didn’t. Well, once, yeah I did, but it was only because I was worried you were too drunk. I didn’t want to take advantage of you. And, also, maybe a little bit because I panicked, okay?” He sounds more vulnerable than you’ve ever heard him yet. “I was worried it’d be weird with Alex or that I’d fuck it up with you, and I just, I don’t know, I panicked. And the other time wasn’t my fault. I was going to kiss you if you hadn’t stumbled.” “Someone bumped into me!” “I’m not blaming you! I just, it just, it made me remember you were drunk, and I didn’t want to be like that idiot guy I’d had to push away a while earlier.” “You’re nothing like that guy,” you say sternly. “I…” He’s started to look frustrated, unable to find the words. He runs his hand over his face, takes another deep breath. “What if you try now?” “What?” “I don’t know how to tell you. So maybe I can just show you. Try again, and no one will bump into you. I won’t panic, and I won’t think of all the things that could go wrong. I’ll think of how I’ve been feeling since that night. Absolutely fucking miserable. It’s been eating away at me; all I could think about was making it right with you, but I didn’t know how, didn’t know if I should. But I can’t take it anymore, and if you feel the same way, then, fuck, let’s just stop getting in our own way.”
“Miguel…” “Yeah?” “That was pretty good for not knowing how to tell me.” Your face forms the slightest teasing smirk, your eyes lighting up at the realization of what he’s telling you. “Shut up and kiss me already,” he says, rolling his eyes, unable to help his bright smile, pulling your body to his and bringing his lips onto yours.
You pull him into you, reciprocating eagerly. He moans into your mouth, and you feel his towering body sink onto yours. His arms are tight around you, one hand cupping your head, bringing you close. His kiss is fervent, desperate but concentrated.
You run your hands in his hair, and he chuckles gruffly, the sound muffled by your chasing mouth. You lose yourself in his embrace. You grip him tightly, breaching into his mouth, wanting to kiss him as much as wanting to be kissed by him. You could feel the beginning of a beautiful push and pull as your mouths move together, your bodies mold into each other’s.
You want to kiss him forever, but some loud cheering nearby startles you slightly apart. Miguel is looking deeply into your eyes. He kisses you again, lets his forehead rest on yours when he pulls back. You’re smiling when you say, “You should probably get back. I’m sure people are looking for you.” He groans dramatically and hides in the crook of your neck. He kisses it before saying, “I just want to be with you.”
You giggle, nuzzling his face with yours, holding him close, your hand in his hair.
“Yeah, me too.” He hums into your neck. He plants another kiss there, and one on your cheek on his way up, as he lifts his head again. His rough hands caress your face tenderly.
“This is good,” he says simply. You laugh and nod. “Fuck ‘em. I’ll go over there at some point. Let’s just stay here a little while longer.”
“Okay,” you smile.
Miguel leans back into you, kissing you and kissing you and kissing you.

Devotion Nanami Kento
Synopsis : Dreaming of your late father, you realized visiting his grave shouldn’t feel like chore nor burden. You change the way you view visiting his grave with the simple pleasures of a bakery that’s right next door to the flower shop.
(This is a bit long, please bear with me)
Tumblr media
-
To say you had been woken up due to the early sun beaming through your blinds would be an understatement. Unfortunately this morning you were woken up due to a cold sweat, seeming to gasp for air at the same time.
It has been 5 months since the day you lost your father. And just in 7 days, it’ll be the 6th month mark. The thought of another month since his passing caused you to drown yourself in the comfort of your blankets, trying to block the sun from bothering you anymore along with the rest of your problems.
Hoping to rest just a while longer was cut short to your phone ringing somewhere alongside you. Desperately trying to find the device to put an end to the loud disturbance you answered the phone while mustering the strength to get out of bed.
“Hello?”
“(Y/N) sweetie, how are you?” It was the soothing voice of your mother on the other end.
“Hi mom, I just woke up not long ago actually. If it weren’t for your call right now I would still be rotting in bed.” Your mom let out a soft laugh, causing you to smile.
“Well I’m glad I was of help this early in the morning my love, I just wanted to call you and check up. It doesn’t seem to get any easier for me to make it non awkward for us.” You sighed just lightly hoping your mom didn’t catch.
“6 months soon and I still can’t seem to get it right can I, (Y/N)?” You hum in response to your mom.
“It’s nothing to worry about mom, I’m an adult now. If I were a child I think fathers whole passing would have been a whole different story for us.” You respond calmly while making your way to the kitchen.
Your parents divorced when you were a child. Being raised by a single mother and only seeing your father on the weekends growing up. Most young kids tended to favor the father more but seeing your mother struggle to make ends meet made you see things differently at a young age. Especially once you were understanding of the situation was when your mother told you the truth. Your father was unfaithful to your mother.
“Plan on doing anything special this time around (Y/N)?” Your mother asks as you pour yourself a cup of tea. You paused. ‘Should I tell her?’
Since your fathers passing, you couldn’t really make out what to think about it. Of course you were sad. But ultimately each time you actually sat down and thought about it, you felt nothing. Like a void that was not empty nor full. In the beginning your mother was concerned, causing her to have her own doubts if she had done the right thing years ago in opening up to you about the truth.
But you had reassured her multiple times in the past that even before being revealed to the truth that your relationship with your father was strained. Something you also couldn’t pinpoint as to why. So there was no need to worry she failed to protect you and your relationship with your father.
“I dreamt about him last night mom.” You replied in a hushed tone while sitting down on your small circular wooden table.
“It was a short dream. Though it felt so real. I couldn’t make him out in the beginning but once I realized it was him I broke down. He was two other little kids alongside with him. They were both girls. One at least two years old and another eleven years old,” you started to feel hot tears forming in your eyes “it felt so real mom. I don’t know where people go once they pass but if that was a sign that he’s doing alright I’ll go along with that.” Tears started to stream down your face, your left hand holding your phone up to your ear and your right clutching your chest.
“Well it’s a possibility that could be true my love. When your father passed I liked to think he’s with your older sister sometimes too.”
Your mothers response made you smile, wiping away your tears you let out a small laugh.
“Do you think the younger child must be another’s lovers child?” You respond with a witty tone that makes the both of you laugh.
“Sometimes I wonder how serious and unserious you can be at times (Y/N)” you mother says while calming down.
“You should visit him more often (Y/N).”
Walking back towards your room, leaving the forgotten tea you had make earlier and walking towards your bedroom window to open and let fresh mourning air in you hum in response, “I’ll try my best mom.”
“I forgave your father a long time ago (Y/N), I hope you can as well someday.” Looking over at your clock,
9:35am
“Thank you mom, for everything.” You knew your smile could be felt on the other end for your mother, “I love you so much (Y/N) I’ll try my best to visit you soon, try to have a productive day today!”
After ending the call with your mom, you promised her you would. Starting with making your bed.
-
11:40am
Locking your apartment door behind you and putting your keys in your bag you walked down towards the entrance of your apartment building.
The sunny weather felt like a warm blanket as you walk down the street while soft breezes pass you. You don’t live far from the city’s downtown where all the restaurants, shops and livelihood are.
After the phone call with your mother you had a moment thinking of what she had told you.
I forgave your father a long time ago
The feeling of guilt almost entirely overcame you until you had promised your mother you’d have a productive day.
And you knew deep down inside your father wouldn’t want you rotting away in bed and be a lazy person ignoring their problems.
With almost nothing to do on your day off you decided to visit your fathers grave while the weather is still warm.
You almost never visit your fathers grave, and if you do it always been less than shamelessly 15 minutes.
Shaking away your thoughts as you come closer to the flower shop, the smell of freshly baked goods seem to get closer. Looking past the flower shop, you see an entrance to what seemed to be a small tucked away bakery. You hadn’t noticed until now that there was such a place.
Granted when you stop by the flower shop it was always a swift stop as you tend to always wish to get visiting his grave over as quickly as possible.
Looking down at the time,
12:02pm
It was still early in the day, plus being eager to get about your day you forgot to bring a water bottle with you, you couldn’t see why not stopping for a quick refreshment at the bakery.
-
Walking inside, you were immediately greeted by the smell of the warm sweet treats and the friendly atmosphere. Not too busy but just a little tight for your liking.
Perhaps next time I can plan to take some baked goods with me to the gravesite
Walking up to the counter you order a cup of lemonade and requested a small cup of water to accompany.
Deciding to enjoy and bask in the smell of the bakery you sat down in the nearest small table in front of the window, sipping on your refreshments as well as just looking out the bakery’s window watching as life goes by.
The bakery’s peace was at a mellow stance until your thoughts were interrupted by the doors bell ding, and steady footsteps being heard ushering towards the front.
You looked over to see a tall frame in a dark mocha colored suit sort of frantically trying to get his order in as fast as possible.
Not wanting to seem so curious you look back towards the window, unbeknownst in looking at the man’s reflection.
Tall, blond, fit, nice looking suit. He must be a businessman.
As the man turns around to wait for his order to be ready at the other end of the counter, he slightly leaned back checking his watch in haste, sighed in what seemed of exhaustion, quickly looked up while still waiting
His eyes met yours in the reflection of the window.
Caught, you felt your ears get hot and you looked away from the reflection of his eyes. Looking down, anywhere but back at his.
Trying to smoothly drink quickly the remainder of your beverages left, you got up and quickly thanked the staff before heading out.
As you walked past the window you were looking out of just now you tried your best to not look back in again to see if the tall man was still there. Filled with blush and embarrassment you quickly opened the door to the flower shop.
-
“Yes those are beautiful, I’ll take just a small bouquet of those daisies please.” Smiling at the older lady, and as she starts to make her way towards the back to prepare the bouquet your steps head towards the display of all the other flowers the shop had displayed.
Nothing it was just yourself in the shop you noticed how quiet it was inside, the faint sounds of the scissors being put to work in trimming your bouquet.
Deep in thought of the beautiful colors the flowers came in you hadn’t notice that another person walked into the shop.
“Tiger flowers, vibrant as can be around this time around,” the soft voice of a man says behind you.
Taken out of your thoughts, you look up quickly seeing the reflection of the green tinted windows of the flower shop you see the man from the bakery behind you.
Swiftly turning around to meet the man’s eyes you could feel your whole face feel hot, unsure to smile or apologize for earlier at the bakery.
Looking at him closer, you note his features. His strong facial expressions, his circler metal glasses, and his lips.
Does this man have a permanent frown? He’d be totally more inviting if he didn’t..
Pushing your thoughts away you smiled at the man, agreeing with him.
“Yeah, the vibrant colors are beautiful.” You responded, not sure on how this conversation would go.
Before more words can be said the flower shop employee had just finished your bouquet of flowers you requested.
“Miss (L/N), I got your bouquet all nice and ready!”
In the beginning of the your fathers passing, you had frequent here at the flower shop, and you explained as to why you were buying flowers in the first place to the elderly worker. She didn’t pry but she had vaguely mentioned how certain flowers have different meanings. You can recall how generous she was and how she took care into making your bouquets.
Looking back at the counter you smiled back at her and headed towards her, ready to make your purchase. Not before giving one last smile towards the man.
As you pull out your wallet, you hear the lady greet the man.
“Oh Kento! It is nice to see you again! How are you? Looking at different flowers today? I can assure you those Tiger Flowers can last up to two weeks!”
The man’s footsteps can be heard walking towards the both of you.
“Thank you Mrs. Ua, but I intend to buy white roses this time.” The man now standing next to you stands tall and firm, so tall he’s looking down at the elderly lady.
“Oh well Kento, I’ll just have to keep hoping both of your two’s healing journey will show you how other flowers can look just as lovely placed onto headstones!”
Slightly shocked at her response, you looked up at the man
So he’s visiting someone too? I figured he was probably coming in to buy his significant other flowers
“I’m sure soon enough we can Mrs. Ua,” Kento responded whilst looking down at your bouquet that was placed gently on the counter, “Mrs. Ua, actually I’ll go ahead and change the white roses to daisies as well. And you can go ahead and allow me to pay for this woman’s bouquet as well.”
How many times am I going to keep being heating up because of this man?
Trying to calm yourself down, you quickly object.
“Oh! Oh no, please it’s totally fine! You don’t have to!”Blushing furiously now the man looks down at you, slightly smiling.
“Please, allow me to. It would certainly brighten up my day.”
An excited coo can be heard from Mrs. Ua
-
Had you ever think that you’d be walking now alongside a man you had just met less than 30 minutes ago. No.
Whilst Mrs. Ua was preparing his bouquet small talk had to ensue. If it hadn’t been for the man you had learned name was Kento, he was the first to start.
“Are you headed to visit a love one as well?” He asked you while leaning on the flower shops counter this time, whilst you still faced towards the back. Once again the faint hearing the faint scissors at work.
“Yes, I am. I am planning to visit my late father today,” your heard turns toward the man, slight tilting your head up to look at him, “are you doing the same?”
The blonde man looks down at you quickly before looking away again, facing the shops display of flowers.
“Yes I am, except I plan to visit my friend.” Smiling at him, “as sad as the circumstances may be, it’s nice to meet you-,” before you could say his name, he then finally introduced himself.
“Kento Nanami.” He looked down at you once again.
“(L/N) (Y/N),” you smiled at him, “it’s nice to meet you Kento Nanami,” with a beaming smile.
I honestly have no idea where this is going. I started at 1 am, I’m pausing at almost 4 am. Please forgive me!! Also this blog is so old. I am no longer 19 anymore but 21. I hope to get back into writing.
I would love to hear feedback and suggestions to continue this little plot!

Mcharrison car key stand off??
RINGO: There are lots of driving stories. This is how a band gets close: in the van, going up and down the M1, freezing your balls off, fighting for the seats. A lot of madness went on in the van, but it got us together. We had a Bedford and Neil would drive. There'd be the passenger seat for one of us, and the other three - whichever three; the rest of us - whichever three; the rest of us - would sit behind on the bench seat, which was pretty miserable.
We would go everywhere in the van and the amps and everything would fit in it with us. I remember sliding all over Scotland. It was bloody freezing in the winter.
JOHN: But we always got screams in Scotland. I suppose they haven't got much else to do up there. Touring was a relief - just to get out and break new ground. We were beginning to feel stale and cramped.67
RINGO: We never stopped anywhere. If we were in Elgin on a Thursday and needed to be in Portsmouth on Friday, we would just drive. We didn't know how to stop this van! If we had a day off and we were going to Liverpool from London, we would just drive.
There was only a small piece of motorway in those days, so we'd be on the A5 for hours. Some nights it was so foggy that we'd be doing one mile an hour, but we'd still keep going. We were like homing pigeons; we just had to keep getting home.
One night I remember, when it was very, very cold, the three of us on the bench seat were lying on top of each other with a bottle of whisky. When the one on top got so cold that hypothermia was setting in, it would be his turn to get on the bottom. We'd warm each other up that way; keep swigging the whisky, keep going home.
PAUL: Quite an image. People think of stardom as glamorous, and there's us freezing - lying literally on top of each other, as a Beatle sandwich.
GEORGE: There were a lot of good times in the van; all the rough-and-tumble stuff that happens. And there were some hysterical things that happened. I had a good crash once. We were coming over the Pennines, the roads were icy and I was driving pretty quickly as we came through what turned out to be Goole in Yorkshire. Everything was fine until suddenly I went into a right-hand turn. It was a bit sharper than it looked and we went up onto the grass bank, which then slopped down to the left. The whole van tipped as we went down the embankment, at the bottom of which was a wire-mesh fence with concrete posts around a Burton's factory.
We bounced along - bump, bump, bump - knocking down all these concrete poles and finally came to a stop with Neil sitting in the front seat next to me, howling, 'Ow, ow, my arm!' The accident had ripped the filler cap off and the petrol was pouring out. We got out and had to shove T-shirts and things into the hole to try to stop the flow of petrol.
We'd started to push the van back up on the road when, out of nowhere, came, ''Allo, 'allo, 'allo, what's all this then?' It was a cop, and he booked us for crashing. A couple of months later I went to court; Brian came with me for moral support. (He did stand by his lads.) I think they banned me for three months.
RINGO: Another great van story was when George and Paul were both planning to drive the van; George got into the driving seat and Paul had the keys, and there was no way one was going to help the other. We couldn't go anywhere. We sat there for two hours. When you're touring, things can be pretty tense sometimes and the littlest thing can suddenly turn into a mountain; that was one of the great ones. (From: The Beatles, ANTHOLOGY)

Part 2 Here
Part 3 Here
Part 4 Here
Tumblr media
Norm knew why he was sitting alone at a table of mainly residents from Vault 32, but that didn’t mean he had to like it. He’d much rather be conversing with his family or (Y/N). Hell, he’d take even Chet, who he was sure would go on about his infatuation with his sister. He’d prefer that level of awkwardness to the awkwardness associated with playing host because he was the Overseer’s son. He wasn’t cut out for this.
He looks up from the table and across the atrium to see your eyes locked on him, he offers back a wave to break your concentration on him. You return the gesture with a beaming smile. His heart thumps a little quicker. You’ve had that effect on him lately. He’s not quite sure when his feelings evolved past friendship-maybe back then, maybe in the last couple of weeks- but there’s no denying them now. He was hopeful that you felt the same; some of your interactions with him seemed more than friendly, flirty even. He just couldn’t be sure he wasn’t projecting his desires onto these situations.
His dad steps up to the stage to deliver his remarks. Thank Goodness. He was eager for any excuse to leave his assigned table.
“Good evening, and welcome to the proud denizens of Vault 32. We are bonded not just as neighbors but by a shared duty. To keep the candle of civilization lit. While the rest of the world has been cast into darkness.”
Norm can’t help but turn his attention from his father to the Overseer at his table; her intense focus on his dad’s words seemed out of place. What was her deal?
“Soon, if our measurements are correct, radiation levels on the surface are dropping fast enough that the next generation, Lucy and Monty’s children, will be able to recolonize.”
The atrium fills with cheers and applause from those in Vault 33 jumpsuits. The 32s seem less enthusiastic about the concept of recolonization. Was he reading too much into this? He feared the surface; maybe these people did, too. Perhaps he’d fit in better if he were in Vault 32.
“After 200 years, we don’t know much about what’s up there: desperation, violence, lawlessness. These survivors will need to be shown a better way. I’ll admit sometimes I’m afraid that mean old world will change us instead. But then I look at my daughter, who’s such a beautiful bride, and her new husband. And I am not afraid. I feel hope. To Lucy MacLean. And to this marriage. And to hope!”
The actual celebration could begin with the closing of his father’s remark. The music started, and everyone was soon captivated by the sweetness of the father-daughter dance. His dad and Lucy swayed back and forth to the sounds of “Some Enchanted Evening” emitting from the jukebox on stage. After a few moments, the two broke away. Norm knew what was coming next; this was typical of his family. His dad and sister plead for him to join them on the dancefloor. He begrudgingly concedes it was his sister’s wedding day after all.
Now, the three embraced and rocked back and forth on the dancefloor. At this moment, Norm was grateful for the bond he shared with his family. Through all the teasing between siblings and the disapproving glances from his father, they loved each other very genuinely, and moments like this one were the manifestation of that.
As they broke apart, Lucy went to tousle his hair affectionately. He noticed her eyes widen at something across the room as she did. Lucy motioned at someone, and Norm followed her gaze. Please no. But it was already too late. Lucy was closing the distance towards (Y/N). The two excitedly embraced. Hopefully, they were just exchanging congratulations. They were friends, after all. Norm watches as Lucy whispers something to you, and suddenly, the pair is heading back in his direction. Lucy, what did you say? Norm thinks as he puts his hand up his forehead while his dad nudges him with his elbow.
“I saw (Y/N) by herself on the edge of the dancefloor and thought someone might like to invite her to dance.” That someone was him, apparently, as Lucy offered (Y/N)’s hand to Norm.
“I’d be happy to,” he replies. Norm was frustrated that his sister had to be one to ask you but wasn’t about to lose the opportunity to dance with you. With a surge of confidence, he takes hold of your hand to lead you onto the dance floor, making a little show of pulling you into position in his arms. He was hoping it impressed you.
“Sorry about that,” he confesses to you after a few moments, shooting his sister a steely glance as he does. She didn’t need to confirm that he was too chicken to ask a girl to dance. “You know how she can be when she gets an idea in her head—unrelenting.”
“I don’t mind; I was actually hoping you’d ask. Your sister just guaranteed the odds.”
Norm smiles, looking up into your eyes. You wanted to be here with him. That was enough. He eases into the moment, focusing on his dance steps and trying to burn every aspect of this into his memory. The way your perfume lingered in his nose, how your body felt leaning into his, the beating of your heart in rhythm with the music—he wants to remember it all.
The sound of a throat clearing behind him brings Norm back to reality. Please don’t let it be someone else wanting to cut in. Turning around, it was just his father, but he did come bringing bad news. “Sorry, I will need to steal Norm away for a second,” the Overseer states as he places a hand on Norm’s shoulder. “Just one family photo, and I’ll give him back,” he reassures (Y/N) with a wink.
“Not a problem,” you reply. Norm believes he can detect disappointment in your tone.
“Find you after.” Norm declares, keeping a loose grasp on your hand as the two of you pull away. He wasn’t ready to let go just yet.
______________________________
You set up camp by the main stage to people-watch and wait for Norm to return from his family obligations. Initially, you hoped to catch some laughable moments from your neighbors of Vault 33. There was just something about weddings that brought out peoples’ impulsive natures. Still, it was the behaviors of the residents of Vault 32 you couldn’t look away from.
Not even Norm’s presence back in the main ceremony space shifted your attention. Soon, he was slotted into the spot next to you on stage. You assumed he must have picked up on your body language and noticed precisely who you were observing because, without any prompting, he spoke up and asked, “Is it just me, or are the Vault 32 dwellers just a little  …”
“Off?” you offer, not giving him a chance to finish.
“I noticed it first while my dad was giving his remarks; their Overseer seemed to be picking apart every word,” he said, replaying the interactions in his mind.
Without warning, he hops down to his feet from the stage and turns to you, offering his hand. “Come on.”
You take hold without a second thought. “Where are we going?”
“I think we need to explore how the other side lives.”
The two of you set off in the same direction you returned from hours ago, trying to act inconspicuously. Hopefully, the sight of two young people walking off holding hands gave a different impression than the reality of snooping around Vault 32.
Hands still interlocked, you make your way down the vault corridor, the sounds of the party in the atrium fading into the background, faintly echoing down the metal hallway. As you approach the end of the hallway, the vault door welcoming you to 32 is still open and rolled off to the side. There are no guards; all seems completely ordinary. You look to Norm and nod, confirming your commitment to enter and cross the threshold hand in hand.
The sight that greets you immediately sets off alarm bells. A breathless “Whoa” was all you could manage. Norm stays quiet, taking it in, only offering a squeeze of your hand as reassurance.
Vault 32’s primary outdoor space appears before you in stark contrast to 33’s. The Vault’s wheat crop is laid out across the atrium as a sea of decayed brown, brittle, and rotting wheat. Their Overseer mentioned a blight that had wiped out their supply, but seeing the scene before you was chilling. How did these people survive?
Continuing further into Vault 32’s atrium, you have to watch your step to avoid pieces of furniture grouped together in small huddles. The lack of lighting makes this task more difficult. Was there no power? Norm provides a steady arm as you two navigate the miniature obstacle course before you.
“Something isn’t right,” he vocalizes as he helps you avoid the plastic lawn chairs and bedding blocking the small opening to the remainder of the living area of the Vault. You’ve now moved both hands to grasp onto his bicep and forearm as you walked, nervous about the potential jump-scare awaiting around every corner.
The Vault’s living area seemed worse than the atrium, with equipment and furniture strewn haphazardly into the hallways, tables overturned, and trash littering the floor. Yet you continued. Curiosity drove each step forward while the heartbeat creeping up into your throat signaled to turn back.
“Hello?” Norm calls out as the two round a corner into one of the disheveled nursery rooms.
Panic strikes you when you realize he was calling out to what looks to be a person occupying a chair in a room ahead of you. What are they still doing in here?  Panic then turns to horror when you get a better look at the occupant in the chair. The sight of the rotten, decayed skin leaves no room for interpretation, sending you and Norm scurrying to get back to Vault 33 in a hurry.
“Stay close,” Norm shouted over his shoulder from his position slightly ahead of you. As you returned down the hallway to get out the way you came, you heard the distant sounds of alarms, screams, and gunshots echoing into Vault 32. Something serious had happened since the two had left.
Norm speeds up and passes the last intersecting hallway before exiting the Vault; however, your escape becomes blocked as a knife-wielding Vault 32 dweller lunges out of the hallway junction in the space separating you from Norm. You react by putting your arms up in defense as the momentum from your body sends you crashing into your attacker, the backs of your forearms making contact with the large knife.
Your scream stops Norm dead in his tracks. He spins around frantically to see the cause of your distress, seeing you bloodied and wrestling to escape your attacker. He starts back down the hallway to intervene, but the appearance of two more 32s stops him.
“Get after him. I’ve got this,” your attacker encourages, causing the two newcomers to rush down the hallway after Norm.
“Keep going. Don’t look back!” you shout, hoping to prompt Norm to flee as you writhe free, creating space between you and your assailant. Your words have the intended effect as your friend springs to action, taking the additional aggressors out of the corridor with him.
Escaping your attacker's hold, you now need a plan to save your life. Think you need to come up with something, anything! You urge your brain in desperation.
The man comes at you again, lunging through the space between you, trying to make contact with his weapon. You narrowly dodge in time, ungracefully slide rolling to connect with maintenance equipment piled in the hallway's corner, the contact with the floor winding you slightly.
The clanging of metal tools falling on the floor draws your attention and will hopefully give you a chance. You pick up the nearest object, a pipe wrench, you think, and position yourself as your attacker comes at you again. From the ground, you lunge at their legs, knocking them off balance, and, using your body weight, pin them to the floor. It all happened so quickly that they had no time to react. The pipe wrench does the rest of the work. With a two-handed grip, the wrench rises over your head, comes back down, and connects. One. Two. Three. Four times. That was all it took to turn a human head into a bloody pulp.
You breathe out a breath you didn’t know you were holding, and your body relaxes as the adrenaline leaves. You wince, now realizing how bad the damage to your arms was. The gashes were deep and still oozing blood; you had enough medical knowledge to know you needed to treat these wounds ASAP lest you be able to use your arms again. One of the hallway storerooms was your best bet.
___________________________
Norm can’t believe he took off down the hallway without a second thought. You were in trouble and needed help, but now he was in trouble sprinting down the connecting corridor with two, who he would assume were raiders hot on his tail. Maybe he could shake these guys and bring back reinforcements. At that thought, he urged his legs to give him more speed.
Thankfully, he was quick, leaving the raiders scrambling to catch up as he exited the corridor and hid low amongst the corn stalks. Upon seeing the chaos in the atrium, that was his new plan. The raiders had descended on anyone in a Vault 33 jumpsuit, killing them indiscriminately and with a level of violence he thought was unimaginable until now.
Norm realizes his best chance at survival is escaping the atrium and hiding somewhere deeper in the vault. He just hoped you were able to do the same. He stays low among the corn and vegetable garden, paying attention to opportunities to make a break. He makes it to the central open space, ducking for cover under a picnic table, hoping for one more chance to clear the room. He has no such luck. A female raider spies him under the table and grabs his legs, pulling him out into the open. This is how I die. The raider pulls Norm up to his knees, intending to silt his throat, and Norm fights back with all the strength he can muster. It’s not going to be enough. Then, suddenly, the raider goes limp, and he can push her body off to the side as she comes crashing down. He didn’t realize what had happened until he was embraced in his sister's arms. Lucy saved him. And now it was Lucy ushering him across the lawn and assisting him into the safety of the bunker. Norm climbs down into the claustrophobic space and turns to do the same for Lucy; at least he can save her. She simply shakes her head–no. She’s not coming down without Dad. She helps Norm shut the bunker door and heads back into the fray.
Norm dwells on one thought in the confided pitch-blackness of the bunker against the backdrop of commotion from above. I let them all down.

| May 3rd | Prompt: Illusion | Word Count: 953 | @rosekillermicrofic |
Evan was waiting. For who, he didn’t know, just that the letter he had received had told him to be in this spot as soon as the moon had reached its highest point.
He sighs, sitting down on the fountain ledge behind him. The water in the fountain trickles slowly, as if it’s forgotten how it used to work and is only a sad echo of what it used to be.
Kicking the grass beneath him, Evan thinks about how he’d gotten into this situation in the first place.
It had started with a white crow. Now, Evan isn’t one to follow vaguely unsettling birds for the heck of it; that’s more up his sister’s alley. But Evan, like everyone else, had been raised on the legends of crows appearing to various people and leading them to the most extraordinary, elusive circus in the entire world.
The circus was said to travel everywhere, but getting an invite was rare. So if you were lucky enough to have the crow appear to you, you followed it, knowing that once you reached your destination you would experience the best week of your life.
Not to mention that the circus was rumored to be magical, as well.
And so Evan had followed the crow into the forest on his family’s estate, watching as it weaved through the trees. Eventually he had stumbled upon a door carved into one of the trunks. Evan had had the feeling that the door wasn’t entirely real, but he had gone through it anyway.
And it had landed him in a small circus tent outfitted with a bed, clothes, and other necessities. Evan had immediately deduced that it would be where he was staying for the next week.
Then he had noticed a slip of paper on the stand next to the bed. And of course he had picked it up and looked at the directions written there, following them out of his small tent and into the night.
There had been a cobblestone path leading away from his quarters, winding through a dark field and into a small, quaint town. From there he had gone to the outskirts of the strangely empty village and found the fountain that had been drawn on the paper.
And now he was sitting there, waiting for… something.
He looks up at the moon just to have something to do. It’s full, or at least close to it, and its light illuminates his surroundings.
Evan sighs, scuffing a foot along the ground one more.
And that’s when the night explodes.
Not literally, of course, but the overall effect is similar to that of an explosion.
The moon begins to emit swirls of color that wrap around the courtyard, filling it with delightful shades of reds and purples and greens and every other color imaginable. The shades are all bright and playful, almost overwhelming in their radiance as they solidify into shapes of various sizes. Evan sees a swirl of fuchsia tangle with a light blue and turn into a circus tent. Beside it, a burst of tangerine forms a fully grown tree. Evan’s not sure, but he thinks there might be a yellow monkey swinging from it. He can’t say for certain, though, as his attention is being pulled in a new direction every other second.
A tightrope springs up from a flood of crimson, dragging Evan’s gaze to it. Then, on the opposite side of the clearing, a cloud of navy condenses into a wheel of knives. He can feel himself becoming dizzy as elephants and swords, ropes and stilts, and tigers, fires, hula hoops, and more are brought into existence all around him. And a vibrant circus is left behind as, one by one, the colors die off.
All of the colors but two.
A bright purple and green swirl around each other, winding faster and tighter as Evan watches a form take shape.
The boots are the first things clearly visible, electric purple and pointy. Then the legs form, along with the torso, all clad in a bright green suit. It’s perfectly tailored, decorated with purple trimmings that immediately catch the eye. The cape and gloves that come next are the same color, tying the entire outfit together. After that, a green hat pops into existence above the headless body, suspended in mid air.
And then finally, the head of the mystery person appears, a devilish grin and a pair of sparkling eyes fading into sight.
Evan’s taken aback by the boy now standing in front of him. He’s Evan's own age, with brown hair, captivating green eyes, and a cocky arrogance about him. And despite Evan’s best instincts, he’s instantly intrigued.
The boy makes a show of acting surprised to see Evan standing there, then sweeps his hat off of his head and bows. The grand gesture brings a slight smile to Evan’s lips.
“Barty Crouch Jr,” the boy introduces himself proudly, “ringmaster of this incredible circus.”
Wait. This is the ringmaster? Evan thought he’d be older. And far less charming, if he’s being honest
“Pleased to meet you,” Evan hedges, still slightly unsure about all these new happenings. After all, it’s not everyday that one experiences magic. Especially on a scale as large as this.
“No,” Barty says, his mouth curling even further into a wicked grin, “the pleasure is all mine.”
His gaze meets Evan’s eyes, causing him to shiver. There’s something to be said for being the focus of a magician—particularly one as bewitching as Barty is.
And somehow, surrounded by the most beautiful illusion he has ever seen, Evan gets the distinct feeling that this just might turn out to be the best week of his life.

Sarah needs to have a scene ending E/riel in the next book, regardless of who the MCs are. It's not just a random ship people are kinda meh about, it's big enough that people are basically tearing each other up every single day for several years now. Referencing the failed kiss isn't gonna cut it (like Nessian's chapter was referenced). We need an actual end. Spell it out like anyone who's reading is 5 years old. I really hope for some news in May, this is starting to suck.
Honestly, I kind of think E/riel has already been ended. If you look at SF without the bonus, we have a scene where Az offers a small smile to Elain and she looks away from him. We have a scene where Elain says something to Cassian and Az but it's noted to be a bit more shyly to Az. We have a scene where he's overly protective towards Elain when Cassian mentions her fight with Nesta. We see them share a charged look on Solstice. That's really it, I don't think they share more than a single line or two in the entire book. But then we have a scene where Az says she shouldn't be exposed to the Darkness of the Trove and Amren scolds him for it. We have Az claiming he saved Elain while giving no credit for Elain having saved him or Briar or Nesta or Cassian. Male love interests ALWAYS acknowledge the females bravery in these books. We have zero interactions for them after Solstice where they shared a charged look and MONTHS go by after. MONTHS. Sure, that doesn't always mean anything in an SJM book, Nesta ignored Cassian for 9 months. But for a non mated pair who have never really been confirmed to be anything by any of the characters, what more is there to tell if they haven't interacted? To a casual reader, it's like "oh could this be something?" only to have it completely fizzle and you let go of the idea. The couch scene doesn't even really count in SF because Mor is also sitting there. If you read the bonus than I'm not sure how anyone could see Az confirming that he hadn't thought of a future with Elain beyond his sexual fantasies and believe there's more story for them. Where he couldn't admit to being over Mor or not just using Elain like a prostitute. Then to have the BC come to a close where she returns his gift and the thought of another females happiness sparks something in his chest? Where Gwyn pays attention to his shadows in a way Elain never has? Where Az feels calm after being around her? That's all she wrote folks, that to me is the author ending E/riel. I do think we'll get a paragraph of either Elain or Az thinking back over how they let themselves get caught up in the idea of a crush to avoid their problems but I don't think there's anything to actually end. Just like the dagger, Elain returned what Az gave to her and as far as I can tell, she hasn't looked back in his direction since.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chenle was a little worried about how you’d react to the party. If Renjuns observations were correct, mingling in parties did not seem up your alley at all.
Standing upon the terrace in dejun’s extremely lavish penthouse, Chenle was currently engaged in conversation with Eri Uchinaga, one of Yizhuo’s friends. Although he was half paying attention to what she had to say, nodding or humming in approval whenever prompted to respond. Dejun had invited so many people, it was hard to hear anyone or anything anyways.
Before Eri could figure out that he wasn’t really paying attention to their conversation. Yizhuo suddenly sneaked up behind him, tapping him lightly on the shoulder. “Someone’s finally here to see you.” She whispered in his ear, ignoring Eri’s widening mouth. Chenle rolled his eyes, and pushed Yizhuo away from his face.
“Sorry Eri, I’m taking Chenle away for a while, rich kid things you know?” Yizhuo turned to look at Eri, grabbing onto Chenle’s arm for dramatic effect.
Eri’s eyes had a glint of enjoyment, almost like she was smirking and imagining things on her own. “That’s fine yi, have fun.” Eri gave them both a sideways grin and a thumbs up, and turned off in another direction. her giggles could be heard even through the noisy crowd.
Chenle shook Yizhuo’s hands off of his arms, side eyeing her. “What was that for?”
“Relax. Eri knows we aren’t together, there’s no way in hell I’d get back with you. I just wanted to annoy you. Did it work?” She teased him. Although Yizhuo and Chenle’s relationship was an interesting one to outsiders, they both had been friends since they were children having been the son and daughter of two of the most influential men in China.
“Yes, very much so.” Chenle replied grimly.
They walked down the steps, , as Yizhuo led him to a sectional couch in the corner. And there you were. You were happily chatting away with Minghao, but he noticed your friends seemed to be less relaxed than you were. He recognized the guy who he had delivered the gifts to the other day, Riku, as you called him. Sitting right next to Riku, was a guy who kept shooting daggers at Dejun, which made Chenle crack a smile. Sitting very close to you on your opposite side, was a red-haired guy who seemed to be observing the whole situation carefully. This must be Ricky. Chenle took note of his outfit, noticing that his shoes and watch appeared to be name brand items. How surprising? Whoever this Ricky was, Chenle wondered why he would place himself in your friend group.
You finally took notice of Yizhuo and Chenle entering, and you gave Chenle a grin, “Chenle! Come meet my friends.” Motioning to the seat next to you on the couch, Chenle felt all eyes burn on him as he walked over to the seat, both from his own friends as well as yours. Although somehow you seemed oblivious to it all. “This is Ricky. That’s Haechan. And that’s Riku.” You pointed to each person individually as you spoke.
“Hey. I’m Chenle.” He shook hands with each of your friends, and he could feel Dejun and Minhao internally mocking him in their heads.
“Man, it’s so tense in here.” Dejun interjected, “Seriously, I mean, we’re here to fucking party! Bring out the drinks!”
—————
It had been about an hour into the party, and everyone seemed more relaxed than when they had started. Dejun had suggested that Chenle show you around his flat, since Dejun was busy entertaining guests. (and it also gave him an excuse to get to know you better of course…)
At first it was so awkward as Ricky had wanted to tag along with you two, but eventually you noticed how awkward it was with Ricky around, and he quietly left you and Chenle alone.
“Do you have a problem with Ricky?” You asked him curiously, noticing how much more relaxed Chenle had become once Ricky had left.
“Oh no it’s not…” He started shaking his head slowly, “No it’s not me, it’s him I think…” He couldn’t help but let out a laugh, “You didn’t notice how he was glaring daggers at me the whole time?”
“Ricky?” Your eyes lit up in shock, “He was doing that?” After seeing him nod in response you can’t help but roll your eyes a little, “I’ll tell him to stop, that’s quite immature of him.”
Your conversation was suddenly interrupted by a voice behind, “Would you two care for a drink?” As you both turned to face the stranger, you were met face-to-face with a tall and slender looking male.
You both promptly shook your head, “Aah- no thanks, I don’t drink.” Chenle responded.
“Neither do I, sorry.” You added after him.
The stranger's eyes lit up and his face curved into a smile, “Good because I don’t have any drinks on me. I just wanted an excuse to talk to the both of you.”
“What?” You were more surprised than Chenle was, “Why me- I mean, why us?”
“Why, you’re the talk of the party of course. The name’s Ten. Ten Lee.” He held out a hand, and Chenle promptly took it and shook it. “Dejun has told me lots about you Chenle Zhong.”
Chenle suddenly found himself feeling very concerned, “Uh, And who are you exactly? What department are you from?”
“Oh no, I don’t go to your school. I graduated last year. Dejun usually invites me because I can get a hold of all sorts of things.” He winked as he spoke the last word, his eyes twinkling. “I have many connections you see.”
“That sounds ominous…” Chenle began, “So how long have you known Dejun?”
“Oh ages… he and I we go way back… see I even knew him before he came to this school-“
“Do you know what happened between him and Song Yuqi?” You suddenly interjected into the conversation.
Ten only looked at you, his smile never breaking, “Damn girl, you get straight to the point don’t you?” he didn’t seem surprised at all, “I was expecting you to ask me about that actually. We’re talking about your roommate, correct?”
“How the fuck do you know that?”
“Relax sweetheart. I told you, I have many connections.” He patted your shoulders before continuing, “Yes, Well I can’t spoil the surprise for you two… but there is more than what both of them are letting on. There's definitely a lot of miscommunication.” Chenle was about to open his mouth, but Ten quickly placed his fingers over Chenle’s lips, “And before you ask me why I knew this and didn’t say a word to both of them, mind you it’s not my place or business to do so.”
That seemed to shut the two of you up, but you and Chenle locked eyes with each other and seemed to understand what each other was thinking.
“Well I’ll leave you two to it. Here’s my number if you ever need anything.” Ten placed a business card in your hands, “Specifically you, since I owe you a big one.” And without elaborating further, proceeded to leave you two alone with one another yet again.
Chenle cocked a brow, “Owe you a big one?”
“I have no clue what he’s talking about, I have never met him in my life.” You responded huffily, as confused as he was.
Suddenly your phone buzzed, and Chenle watched you read over texts. Your eyes widened as you read through them, and then your phone started ringing. “Sorry, I need to-“
“It’s okay, I understand. Take your time.”
While he waited around in the area for you to finish the phone call, he couldn’t help but hear the distress in your voice, as you responded to the other person on the phone.
When you returned, you looked absolutely panic stricken, “Chenle, I’m so sorry. It’s Yuqi… she… left our group chat suddenly and said some crazy things… I think she’s having a breakdown…I-“
“It’s okay. I understand.” He tried to give you a smile, but wasn’t sure if he was actually happy about it either. “I’ll give you a ride back if you want. That way the others can still enjoy themselves for the time being.”
This seemed to uplift your spirits a bit, and you cracked a small, but still pleasant smile. “Thank you so much Chenle.”

Dark Blue Moon and the Suffering Sun Chapter 31
MASTAPOST
big thanks to brekitten for betaing this chapter, and HAPPY MERMAY TO EVERYONE YAYAYYAYAYA
Here’s a fun fact, Danny noted, as he sat in the driver’s seat of the GiW truck they’d stolen GTA style from the government. Despite having a father whose driving may be more dangerous than the sirens that he hunts, and parents who built a tank that can float…
Danny did not know how to drive.
But luckily, Damian did! Thank goodness. Guess that rich kid education was paying off.
The issue, though? Damian didn’t have legs at this moment.
Which meant that Danny was the one stepping on the gas, while Damian took the wheel, sitting in Danny’s lap.
Here’s a fun fact. Whenever Danny’s dad drove, he always used to think that it was the scariest thing in the world. The G-forces turning you into a ragdoll. The screaming and car horns from other people. The uncertainty of whether you’ll make it to see the next day.
On this clear summer day, Danny learned that there was something far, far scarier.
To have all of that happen, and you were the one at the driver’s seat.
“Step on it!” Damian shouted. Danny could only comply. Stray shots blasted past the windows, but the armored vehicle stood firm. Another blockade was up ahead, a blockade that was very quickly becoming vacant as agents scattered to the side.
Damian cackled maniacally. His howling trills filled the air and mixed with the screams of the agents.
“Should I slow down?”
“Negative!” Damian yelled. Danny was seriously regretting following this plan. Why couldn’t they have just walked and snuck around the barriers?!
The blockade smashed into pieces. The truck rammed through the gates signs like they were wet tissue paper. Well that went slightly better than they’d expected. But there was still the issue of the very large tail of vehicles pursuing them.
Danny looked back and forth nervously. “Please tell me you have a plan for those guys.”
“Shoot them.”
“What?!”
“With your ice. Give them a frozen tire or two.”
Danny gulped. He was used to a little fighting, but this was getting ridiculous!
Then again, it was the GiW. Yeah, go on then. Danny poked his head out the window. Damian had torn up part of his shirt (rude!) and forced Danny to wear it like a mask. He’d also put some mucus in his hear to make it white. It was a challenge to twist his body to keep pressure on the gas pedal while also looking behind him, but some siren flexibility helped.
There. A GiW car lead the chase behind him. One of the agents glared at him with all the hatred she could muster (so the same amount that he usually received from glares), and fired a beam that missed him by about 40 degrees. Yeah. Good luck with that aim. Danny returned by icing over the road. His powers created a right-facing ramp right in front of the car. The car could not brake in time and flung itself to the side. Then an armored SUV took its place in the front.
Danny grinned mercilessly. Maybe Damian had a point.
He narrowed his glowing eyes. His target was small, but its relative position was pretty constant. Just a little to the left… and that was just perfect. Danny flung an ice beam. It hit its mark perfectly. The tire of the SUV leading the chase froze completely. The vehicle skidded out of control. Then the truck right behind it failed to brake in time. Like dominos the entourage crashed into each other like a perfectly programmed sequence. The sound of car alarms and clanging metal filled the air like music as the boys sped away in their getaway vehicle.
That was not the end of it, however. Danny spotted more and more vehicles assembling from the side roads. Danny flung ice like a kid in a snowball fight, but he’d burnt most of the energy from the tamales earlier. He needed more food.
“Save your strength,” Damian called out. “We are almost at our destination.”
Before long, the countryside roads gave way to tall buildings and crowds of tourists. With the vehicles hot on their tails, Damian yelled at him to slam the brakes. At the same time, the kid swung the steering wheel hard left. The truck drifted on its side for a few heart-stopping seconds before coming to a halt.
Danny kicked the doors open. He and Damian were out in seconds, invisibly slipping into the gathering crowd of onlookers. He bumped a shoulder or two, and more than one person waved their hands over their noses, making a disgusted comment in another language, but the crowd meant more than one kind of invisibility.
The agents filed out of their vehicles in quick succession, looking to muscle through the civilians. However, a matching crowd of police officers met them, engaging in heated argument. Danny had the distinct feeling Damian absolutely intended this.
They walked through the streets of the town. Further away from the truck, the crowd became sparser, but it was still very busy. American brands lined the storefronts, and local street food venders populated the sidewalks. From the corner of his eye, Danny spied a prime opportunity.
He casually sidestepped the sleeping security guard on his way to a suitcase and backpack store. Damian side eyed him, or at least he felt he did. “Relax Damian, this will make things much easier on us.”
Did he feel bad about stuffing Damian into a waterproof backpack? Maybe. But look, keeping invisibility on for hours at a time was hard! He needed a little respite. Besides, the GiW were probably looking for a white-haired scaly menace, for all that he was careful never to show his fully human form to them.
And Damian wasn’t even gonna overheat and die of heat stroke! He’d been very careful to ice over the lining of the backpack to keep the kid cool. Now if only he’d stop complaining.
“I would like to put it on the record that this is an awful idea.” Damian punctuated his fifth complaint with a sharp jab into Danny’s soft human spine. Ouch.
“Dude, I am literally undetectable right now. What more do you want?”
“You look like a vagrant with a very, very clearly stolen back pack.”
Maybe Damian had a point. People were staring, and covering their noses. Perhaps he had miscalculated. Danny ducked into an alleyway and camouflaged himself again, even if it made his stomach churn. “Look, their scanners are pretty close ranged, but I’m using my powers, it’s way easier for them to detect us.”
“Tut. Very well, but you still need a better disguise. Move quickly. I can smell them filing into town even from here,” His passenger chittered. And move quickly he did. Danny ducked into a clothes store and yanked the first articles he could see. He was half-tempted to reject the clean clothes to spite Damian, but spiting the GiW by not dying seemed much more attractive of an option. Then he borrowed some food from a convenience store.
It was necessary for his survival, even if it made him ill.
With his slightly less homeless-looking clothes, Danny was finally able to show his face without looking like a street rat. Well honestly he still looked like a street rat. The kind of things salt water and four days of not showering will do to your hair. But he at least looked like a decently-dressed street rat.
The agents had already swarmed the town. Thank goodness the sun had dried his hair again, or he’d be clocked in a blink. They patrolled around the streets in pairs and harassed innocent bystanders about the siren menace, all the while an official-looking police guy yelled at an official-looking GiW guy.
“We are close to the shore. Keep calm.” Damian whispered.
Just keep calm as the people who want to dissect you look you right in the eye. Thank you Damian for the encouragement. Danny forcibly slackened his shoulders, and slouched his back. Just a normal teenager. Nothing to see here.
The edge of the town was just ahead, maybe a hundred meters. Just needed to avoid suspicion for a few minutes more.
Danny walked through the human-shaped landmine, suddenly distinctly aware he had no shoes on. Only three meters away, an agent scanned over a young man, then attempted to pat him down, only for the man to shout at him and pull away. Then two more agents showed up and held his arms down. Danny shuddered, but he forced himself to continue. Danny hid himself between two adults walking past. He held his head low. It was just like high school, avoiding Dash, he told himself. Just like high school.
He was inches away from leaving the outer bounds of the area when an agent called out right to him. “Hey you!”
What does he do. What does he do, what does he do what does he do?! Sweat pooled on his neck. Just play natural. Yeah. Put all the hours of Spanish lessons to good use!
Danny turned around, and with his most casual smile possible, said.
“¿Yo no hablo ingles?”
Even he cringed at how bad that sounded. Adrenaline pooled in his still legs. The agent rattled off some excuse the government was peddling, and then pulled out a scanner. Danny’s eyes widened. If he stayed, Damian would get detected. If he ran, he’d be outed as a sympathizer at the best. If he fought, then the whole world would know Danny Fenton was a freak of nature.
Danny’s brain moved a mile a minute, but his muscles locked in place. What could he do. What could he do.
His eyes locked on a pair of Panamanian policemen behind him, with grim looks on their face. He scrambled together the last vestiges of the Spanish class he’d barely been passing.
Danny sucked in a breath, and shouted at the top of his lungs.
“¡AYUDAME!” He shouted. Danny crossed his arms over his groin, and put on a pained expression. “¡LOS GRINGOS ME TOCARON!”
The agent blinked in puzzlement, like a deer in the headlights. His dumbfounded expression contrasted with the thunderous look that came over the Panamanians. Thank you Jazz for forcing him to actually study. Maybe foreign language classes weren’t all that bad.
Danny took the distraction and speed walked away from the premises, as verbal fireworks and fists flew.
The beach was in sight. Just a couple more minutes, and the GiW would never be able to catch them. Danny sprinted for the water. This close, the urban roads transitioned back to foliage and dirt again. He ducked underneath low branches, and jumped over fallen debris.
Then the air buzzed. The familiar scent of ozone permeated the space. Skulker.
His nose picked up the rocket. Danny lunged to the ground. A tree exploded into dozens of splinters behind. The shockwave threw him further away and slammed him into a rock. His vision shifted nauseously.
“Put your mask on and run!” Damian shouted, having emerged from the backpack. Danny didn’t need to be told twice. He slicked his hair and booked it. Without his lateral line above water, Danny was forced to rely on Damian spotting for him. Skulker’s missiles exploded in mid-air as his friend took to intercepting them with his shots. More came through, forcing Danny to duck and weave through the storm.
“Where is he?!” Damian shouted. “I cannot get a visual on him.”
“He keeps flying into different spots to shoot at us. We need to get to an open field.”
Then came the machine blasters. The shots tore through leaves like they weren’t even there. Danny threw up an icy shield that deflected the shots away. Heavier blasts pelted the shield and forced him to reinforce it even more, straining his body.
Skulker’s voice cried out somewhere to his flank. “Over there!” Damian cried out. Danny threw an ice spear in the blink of any eye. It flew through the dense tree top. Seconds later, metal tore open in a screech. A smoking Gatling gun fell to the dirt.
Danny sprinted through the remaining thicket, and burst on to the beach. “Quickly, Danny!” Damian shouted. Stray gunshots blasted sand high into the air. Danny jumped behind an upturned wooden boat, ducked and rolled. The boat exploded into splinters, but otherwise shielded him from the blast. Danny tramped over seaweed and sandcastles alike, a mad dash for the water where he’d be in his element.
A net collided into his body from the side. The boys were thrown to the sand. The force sent Danny’s mask flying off his eyes, right as he spotted two familiar figures just off the beach.
His blood turned to ice. “Damian. Hide in the backpack.”
“What are you talking about-” Damian sucked in a breath.
“Get in now!”
In the water, standing on a jet ski, his mother lowered her binoculars, and suddenly she was racing towards the shore line at breakneck pace. Skulker laughed in the air. Danny threw off the net, dashing back into the jungle. He couldn’t get caught. Not now. His vision flashed with bright lights and glowing gun barrels.
“Don’t think you can simply run away from the mighty Skulker, whelp!” Skulker charged up another salvo. Just then, a blue shot tore through his arm cannon.
“Do not touch my baby!” His mother roared. She front-flipped off the jet ski and landed soundlessly on the sand. She charged for Danny, arms outstretched. “Danny!”
His foot landed on a patch of sand that didn’t sink slightly inwards like he’d thought it would. Danny’s blood turned to ice.
Sand erupted in a plume of yellow and white. His ears rang like high-pitched white noise. Danny barely registered the backpack being torn off his arms, Damian’s screeching becoming further, and further. The last he saw of Damian was in the clutches of Skulker, who shot him a metallic smirk as the man retreated into the sky. He smelled his mother and Bruce Wayne running up the beach. He nearly passed out turning invisible, aided by Skulker’s sand smokescreen. It was all he could concentrate on.
Danny stumbled behind his mother and Bruce’s backs, even as she yelled “Danny! Danny! Baby boy, where are you?!” into the empty beach. He stripped wordlessly in the water, turning skin to scales. But it was the lack of that familiar weight over his shoulder that made him feel more naked than anything else.

Imperial Love
Pairing: Thrawn x gn!reader
Summary: Y/N and Thrawn are having an eye-opening discussion, getting to know their suppressed feelings for each other.
Warnings: tension, fluff, enemies to lovers
Word count: 2195 word
Tumblr media
POV: You and Thrawn are in his luxurious quarters on the Chimera where you are held as a prisoner. You hated the empire but had an odd esteem for Thrawn. He was always respectful and never underestimated your abilities. You have been on the Chimera for a longer amount of time now. Thrawn invited you into his quarters for conversation and dinner. Well, as far as you can call this an invitation. You could either spend your time in a prison cell or take the variety.
You are watching the stars through the window while Thrawn sits down on his sofa. A bottle of wine and two glasses sit on a small table next to him. His quarters were decorated with different pictures and art from throughout the galaxy. You knew that he adored art. But not because he found it so aesthetically pleasing, no. He reads it like normal people would read books. One of his special abilities you had never gotten a hang of.
After a long stare in the void of nothing you finally decided to break the silence. „Why am I here?”, you mumbled. Thrawn's observing gaze could not seem to get rid of you. Even though you did not bother, you could just not quite grasp why he was so interested in you. Unlike the rest of the empire, Thrawn seemed to be the only one that somehow respected you. It wasn’t the first time you got an invitation to join him, but most of the time you never really spoke. This time though, you could already feel that it was different.
„You are here because you took my invitation.”, he answered as he calmly took the bottle off the table and poured the red wine into the two glasses. „That is not what I meant.” You took a deep breath before you continued to speak. “Why am I on this star destroyer? What exactly does the empire want from me?“
Thrawn’s mimic stayed neutral as he leaned back. „You are here so that we can convince you to join the empire. We want you to fight for us. End the rebellion and therefore the war.“
You started to look at him, while he was sitting there, leaning back, his glass of wine in one hand, his other arm resting on the back of the sofa, while he decided to watch you eagerly. You laughed in disbelief while you shook your head. „Why do you think I would ever decide to work for the one thing I fought to destroy? I have lost so many important people, to this war. If I would switch sides now, everything that I did would have been for nothing. Their deaths would be completely meaningless. Do you really think I would betray them, betray myself like that?“
„So that‘s the most important thing to you. Your friends. The people that you love.“ he paused for a second. „I learn a new thing about you every day. Surprisingly, none of this applies to what they say about you.“ he took a sip of his wine.
You frowned slightly laughing. „Oh really? So what do they say about me?“ With a piercing look at him, you crossed your arms.
„It is said that ‘Nova Phantom’ destroyed a Venator-class star destroyer all by themself.“ His gaze wandered from your feet up to your eyes. It felt like he tried to read you. You smirked. „The way you said it, it doesn’t seem that you believe in it.“
„I don‘t know what to believe honestly.“ You laughed, as you interrupted him. „Wow, so the all-knowing famous notorious grand admiral Thrawn is clueless. That is also not quite what your reputation says.“
„So you know my reputation?“ You smirked. „Did you really doubt that? Know your enemies. Isn‘t that what you’re used to say?“ Thrawn nodded in agreement so you continued. „I know that you are the smartest man to have ever gotten a post in the empire. You are a tactical master when it comes to war maneuvers and a genius in constructing your enemies' next steps. I assume you are also a master manipulator and can read every person you have ever met like an open book. Never in my life, have I met someone so precise and right with his assumptions than you. You have a wide knowledge in a lot of different areas. Cultures, languages, art. Everything you need to know to reconstruct someone’s life and decisions. I am pretty sure you started analyzing everything when you were able to think. And that‘s probably why you became so good.“
He smiled lightly when you finished, which is a thing you rarely get to witness. But he stayed calm. Neither agreement nor disapproval. You smirked again. „Seems like I was right. Your reputation is pretty accurate then, don’t you think? So why don‘t you think mine’s also?“
You stepped slowly across the room to take your glass of wine before you stepped back to the window. With every step you took you started to realize that Thrawn’s eyes were literally glued to you by now. You took a sip of the wine the grand admiral had picked for you. An oddly familiar smell and scent floated through your senses. How in the stars was he able to guess your favorite wine? A slight surge of uncertainty started to build up as you stared into your glass for a short moment before you started to realize that he wasn’t allowed to know that he had hit the bull's eye. You took a glimpse through the side of your eye before you headed back to your spot at the window. You were sure that he had noticed your little break out of your coolness, but he kept it to himself.
„I never said that I didn’t think it could be true. I‘m just not quite sure yet, which option makes the most sense.“
Your gaze wandered back to him, interested in what he meant by that. He understood the curious look on your face and kept going. „There is option one. Your reputation is not true, you‘d be a normal prisoner here and the empire would not have the use for you as they do now. Or your reputation is true, you are the most powerful being I have ever met and did all they say about you, then I don‘t quite understand why you didn‘t just, … leave. Clearly, you would have all the abilities to walk out of here without a scratch. So, the question is, why are you still here? Either you don‘t have these abilities they say or there is something else that is keeping you here.“
„Really, and what would that be?”, you asked as calmly as you were able to. „Maybe a tactical advantage. Learning from your enemy firsthand so that he shows you how to destroy them. Or something completely different. Maybe you have a special interest in something specific. Something or someone.“ He took another sip from his wine and gazed at you with a deep stare directly into your eyes.
You try not to let on anything, although you exactly knew that he had hit the bull’s eye with his analysis. Again. You took a sip of your wine. „That is a very interesting theory. So what do you think is true then?“
„I had hoped you would tell me.“ He looked at you expectantly, his head slightly tilted to the side.
„And why would you think I would tell you that?“ Your heartbeat started to increase as Thrawn took another sip, looking at you without saying anything. You knew exactly what he was doing. Playing this little game of answering your own questions. It was your turn now.
„I see.”, you began. “And luckily, I already know the answer to this question. You like my companionship. I am the only one who can slightly compare to you on an intellectual basis and that is a welcome variety to you. Being surrounded by the same boring crew and an enemy that hides most of the time, because they know they don’t stand a chance to beat you. I am none of that to you. I am a mystery, a riddle that you are burning to solve.“ You took a pause to see his reaction, but he stayed cool so you continued. „The empire probably thinks that all of this is for tactical reasons. They think that what you are doing here might give them information about the enemy, about me, but that is not entirely true, isn‘t it? There is more to it. You don‘t just like the idea of solving a complex puzzle. You like the idea of how I make you feel. And you want to explore that in every possible way. How far you can go. It thrills you because you have never had the opportunity to experience anything like that.“
You slowly stepped in his direction, while you observed his reaction. „Does it scare you? Seeing someone using your own weapons against you?” You placed your still-filled glass back on the table. The power you felt at that moment was incredible. Being able to keep the upper hand with someone like him was the reason why you stayed on this ship. To be honest, under great effort, you‘d probably be able to leave the Chimera but your state of health wasn‘t the best at that time. So, waiting a little bit longer till you’d be able to leave a more comfortable way seemed to be the best option. You sat your knee between his thighs and placed you close in front of him. The slight nervousness that made his body tense has not escaped you. You rest your hand on the backrest of the couch while your fingers slowly traced a line over his chest. He clearly did not expect you to come that close that fast. But that didn’t last long. A smile formed on his lips. „Thank you.“ he stated as he glared deep into your eyes. „For what?“, you laughed lightly at his sudden mood change. „Now I know the answer.“
„Oh really? What is it then? Is my reputation true or false?”, you tilted your head slightly to the side. „That I cannot say yet. But what I know is that my previously made assumption is indeed correct. You do want me. Maybe even the way I want you. And the best thing is, I can prove it to you.“ But before you could even process what he meant by that. He grabbed you by the hip and pushed you into himself so that his mouth almost touched your ear. A light gasp left your body at that sudden movement. His hot breath tickled the skin on your neck and a shiver waved all over your body. You could literally feel that wide grin of his on your skin. Only now, you really understood how he proved it to you. At that sudden movement of dragging you into him, your hands found hold on his chest. Your fingers were buried in the fabric of his white uniform, that’s how much you really tensed.
But even now that you‘ve noticed you couldn’t let go of him. His scent, his hot breath on your skin, and his hands on your lower back had taken you completely. He had you under his spell and he was well aware of that. Your breathing accelerated as he moved his mouth along your jawline till he stopped right in front of your lips. You didn’t know where to focus anymore as your eyes wandered between his lips and his eyes.
You wanted this, even though you knew that this was absolutely wrong. Betraying your friends and everything you have fought for just in a glimpse of a moment, was the last thing you wanted. But the way you‘ve simply lost all control over your body made it hard to resist. You knew that he thought the same. He struggled so hard to catch a clear thought but the longer he waited the more desperate he got. Desperate for your touch. In a glimpse of a moment, he closed the gap between the two of you pulling you in for a hot breathy kiss. First, you tried to resist the urge, but as soon as his lips met yours all you could think of was how you wanted more. Your hands wandered up to his neck as you deepened the kiss. Thrawn kept you close to him as his hands slid under your shirt to feel your skin. He had thought about this moment way more often than he’d like. A shiver went through your body as a burning desire started to build up in you as he traced a line along your lower back. In the end, Thrawn was right about you, the same way you were right about him. You two were made for each other. Sooner or later the realization that it would never work had to hit. An imperial grand admiral and a rebel assassin. This had to be destined to fail.

Kataang could have been developed more after The Invasion Kiss but on the other hand it is important that katara hugged him after the defeat and stood very proud next to him when he thanked everyone for participating. Then they were very chill sitting next to each other in the western air temple and even in sozins comet part 1 after their biggest fight so far they stood next to each other in their group hug and katara watched him training when zuko taught him how to redirect lightning. If aang was really such an incel or simp like people make him out she would try to avoid him at all costs but she didn't.
I agree with you, if Katara was at any point uncomfortable by Aang's advances...actually, the only two advances he has ever made at her, she would definitely distance herself from him, or, knowing Katara, would just talk to him. Of course even after the kiss at the invasion Katara is comfortable with Aang. It wasn’t even their first kiss, they canonically kissed in the cave of two lovers!
Don’t even get me started on the topic of people calling Aang an incel HOLY SHIT that is a different level of dumbassery, please. I don’t even know where it’s coming from. The way Aang kissed Katara in the invasion? Well let’s see, Sokka kissed Suki THE EXACT SAME WAY IN THE SERPENTS PASS AND NO ON EVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT THAT. So please tell me, how the way Aang kissed Katara is any different from the way Sokka kissed Suki?
Plus people who call him an incel think he forced Katara to be with him, bothered her after she told him to stop multiple times. And please, what show are you people watching? Aang never lets Katara know he has feelings for her until the invasion episode!!! Where exactly is the forcing? Where exactly is Katara turning him down? Are you making stuff up?
The kiss in the cave was initiated by Katara, Aang didn't let her know of his feelings for her. If she knew he liked her, she wouldn’t be offended when Aang tells her he wouldn’t want to kiss her. She's offended because Aang makes her think he doesn't like her...why would that offend her if she herself didn't like him, and didn't want him to like her back?
The first time Aang EVER shows Katara he has feelings for her is halfway through the third season! And the only time Katara turns his advances down is in the last episode before the finale, after which we never even see them together. Aang totally backs off until she’s the one who kisses him in the finale.
The whole time Aang is pining for her secretly. He just has a crush on her, and even that is exaggerated by the haters. It's not like they don't have a relationship outside this crush. The crush is such a minor detail in their relationship. They have mutual respect, trust, they're each other's moral compass and biggest supporter. Aang's crush on Katara comes up in 13 episodes out of 61! I literally counted! And I counted every tiny thing like Aang blushing at Katara in City of Walls and Secrets, something that lasts 1 second. MOST of those crush moments are so tiny and have little to no impact, but even counting those, it only comes up to 13 episodes! And some of them don't even include Katara in them, like The Guru. So if the crush is not referenced or mentioned in 80% of the show, how exactly is Katara pressured or pursued constantly, to the point where she has to tell him to stop? Did the turning him down get lost somewhere between all the kisses on the cheek Katara gives him throughout the show?
Look, I would take all that criticism seriously, but literally anyone who ever said that is a ZK shipper. Which just makes it disingenuous, because they’re only saying all that stuff to prove their ship should've been canon...which in no way makes it canon anyway so what's the point for all this hate? I just don't get it for the life of me.
