hello! so, i currently have an oc in the works. i dont have much for his character yet, and hes kind of a blank slate at the moment, however, whilst trying to develop him i had the idea to give him a disability; its something i dont do with my characters very often, and i feel like it could give some depth and realism to his character. however, i..... dont know where to really start with it? i have the vague idea that i think id like him to have crutches, so some sort of leg disability, but just going off that its been hard for me to find any condition that feels quite right. im unsure about making him an amputee either; seemingly the "go to" for anyone who wants to make a physically disabled character. i want to try and represent a disability thats less fetishized by the general public, and looking through this blog here its definitely apparent that a lot of people are tired of seeing basic half amputee characters with overly functional prosthetics; i wanna avoid that. sorry this has gotten a bit rambly, but basically what im asking is,, do you have advice for what i could use as just. a general starting point in this? im terribly uneducated and lost at the moment and id love some help. thank you :]

It's great that you're interested in writing a disabled character (with care)! I'm always happy to see more writers/artists/creatives do that.

You mentioned wanting to give him crutches, which is cool! Mobility aid users in media make me happy. However, you mentioned crutches as meaning a leg disability, which isn't always the case — and while I don't have statistics on it, I believe that most crutch users do not use them for leg-only problems, and a lot of them have the not-so-fetishized conditions. Here are some suggestions of what you could give your character, which hopefully gives you some ideas. If you need, you can get back to us with a more specific question after you figure out what exactly your character has! :-) (smile)

Cerebral palsy — probably the most common reason for using crutches in non-elderly people, and the most common (physical) disability in younger people in general. If your character has diplegic (meaning lower limbs affected) CP, he could use crutches and if he has hemiplegic (one arm and one leg affected) CP, then he could use a single crutch or a cane. Cerebral palsy is generally extremely underrepresented when compared to how many people have it IRL! Just be aware that there is a lot of research involved just about the condition itself — multiple types (spastic/ataxic/dyskinetic), different kinds of body involvement, tons of different mobility aids and orthotics to learn about. There is also hereditary spastic paraplegia, which is not the same as CP but similar and progressive.

Spinal cord injury — the general assumption is that all people with spinal cord injuries are fully paralyzed below the neck or waist, and that's not the case. If your character has an incomplete SCI on any level or just a very low level injury, he could be using crutches or switch between a wheelchair and crutches. It's essential to research SCIs to have them be more than “legs don't work, but that's literally it”. SCI can come with severe nerve pain, spasticity, atrophy, and a lot of other things. Worth noting that spinal cord injury could be traumatic, but could also be congenital (spina bifida) or illness related (polio, transverse myelitis, spinal stroke, or cancer, for example). You could think that it's overrepresented in media, but SCI is generally just used as a “default condition” for why a character is in a wheelchair, and a lot of these representations are unfortunately very shallow.

Paralysis — in the monoplegic sense here. Much more rare than the rest of the things here, but your character could have a single paralyzed leg, largely due to nerve damage. Could be traumatic or illness-related (e.g., cancer, infection, or multiple sclerosis).

Stroke (and other traumatic/acquired brain injuries) — stroke can cause a million different symptoms and depending on what happens to your character exactly, he might need crutches! A big portion of stroke survivors deal with hemiplegia and could use a crutch on their non-affected side, for example. Some kinds of stroke might cause your character to have troubles with balance and require a mobility aid to not fall. Of course stroke will also cause other symptoms for your character (it wouldn't be too realistic to only have him have problems with his legs) for example speech issues, headaches, or seizures. Stroke can happen to anyone, and it wouldn't be weird to have a younger character with it. Very common in real life but very rarely represented in fiction.

Limb difference — you can definitely write a character with a limb difference or an amputation without fetishizing it! The main concern with the fetishization is the concept of the robotic limb that works just as well as or even better than a meat leg, and thus the character is “fixed”. But your character could just… not use a prosthetic. A lot of congenital amputees, people with limb differences, or with high level (above knee) amputations might do that. He could also have a leg length difference, which could cause him to need crutches (for example, Morteza Mehrzad has one of his legs significantly shorter after a pelvic injury, and he uses crutches among other mobility aids).

Chronic pain — very broad category for too many specific conditions to count. Neuropathy in the legs and/or lower back could be a reason for using crutches, for example. Unhealed, or poorly healed past injuries. Arthritis in knees or hips. Hypermobility that makes him unsteady or dislocate joints. Pain in bones or muscles where he can't fully weight-bear.

Gait disorders — another broad category (sorry). Your character could have problems with his gait and need aids for that. It could be caused by dyspraxia (I have it), ataxia, progressive muscular dystrophy (there is a lot of different types), Parkinson's disease, or a lot of other things! Could also be injury related.

And of course you could have multiple characters that are disabled to make sure that there is some variety :)

PUPPY BOY! AU HEADCANONS PT.1

About this AU: Puppy boy! Au is your normal MHA universe with a slight twist. Men possess dog traits (ears, tails, and sometimes large canines), it's hereditary from father to son. Some reactions like tail wagging and perked ears happen, but they have normal lives like any other (mostly, if they like you enough they can give you an “owner” title.)

Kirishima + Pitbull

• Eijirou is a Pitbull puppy boy, he doesn't have his tail or ears cut like many of his kind, but he does have the eyes an attitude.

• Plenty of people fear him because pitbulls have a bad reputation, but he proves the myth is false by being super kind and loyal! Besides, it's difficult to be scared of him when he welcomes you with such a sweet smile.

• You decided to let him into your life after spending a lot of bonding time with him. It'd be a lie if you said you weren't nervous at first, his pointy teeth were reason enough to be wary. He managed to dissipate any fear, whatsoever, his tail wagging effusively whenever you spoke.

• Like many pitbulls, Kirishima is energetic and loves to exercise, so he constantly drags you to daily jogs and weight-lifting training.

• Did I mention he gives you scary dog privileges? Again, many people associate pitbulls with aggressive behavior, so they think twice before messing with you, specially if he is by your side.

• He is oblivious of his size and weight, and will try to be a lapdog even if his size is not the most practical. “Oh, you are sitting on the couch? Let me just crush you with my weight to cuddle.”

• Not very eager of the idea of being collared like some puppy boys are, but will accept to wear one if you really want him to. Just don't expect him to wear it for long periods.

• It's funny to introduce him with a scary and ominous nickname that contrasts with his kind and gentle personality. “This is my friend Bone crusher planet destroyer” *Kirishima waving his hand happily in the background* “A real menace!”

• Will not hesitate to smother you with PDA if another puppy boy tries to approach you.

“You're home, you're home!” Kirishima said, opening the door for you before you could even finish putting your key in the lock set. You'd only been away for a couple of hours, yet - in Kiri's mind- an eternity had passed. He had missed you so much!

“Hey, buddy, did anyone come while I was gone?” You asked, your hand finding its way to the soft black fur of his ears. It was easy to tell he liked it, specially when his tail wagged so rapidly. “No, no one came - Hey, I smell something on you.” Eijirou pointed out, sniffing your clothes a little. “You were with other men!” He pouted, crossing his arms across his chest.

“Well, it was a party. Of course, there were more people.” You giggled, leaving your bag on the kitchen counter.

Kiri was not having it, his strong arms locking you into a tight embrace. "Now I gotta cuddle you until my scent is there again!" He claimed, throwing you into the couch to cuddle for the rest of the evening. Oh, if only people knew how much of a baby your scary pitbull was!

Dabi + Dobberman

• Even if this scary looking dog may seem like some sort of hell hound when your first meet him, he comes from a very selective bloodline after all! His breed would be a Dobberman, with his ears pointy and tail short from being cut at a young age. Also, albino dobbermans have blue eyes! And so you have Touya (white fur) before becoming Dabi (black fur).

• He knows people fears him just by looking at their reactions, and he enjoys it! Dabi wonders, however, why you didn't run away the first time you approached him. He thinks you are very dumb for not being careful around him, but doesn't mind your company at all.

• Hates the idea of an owner but can't help the tail wag whenever you compliment him or do something that he finds exciting. The first time you see that reaction is when you tell him how cool he was!

• Sometimes allows you to see his canines and smirks when he notices how much you like them. Dabi likes to tease by saying "Do you want me to bite you that bad?"

• Dabi IS the definition of scary dog privileges. Looks like he'll bite and WILL bite if someone tries to approach you.

• He also refers to you as "Lady" because, in his eyes, your dynamic with him is similar to the "Lady and the tramp" story... Except the tramp is more of a hurt dog that turned aggressive against everyone except you.

• Won't admit it but enjoys resting his head on your lap whenever you are sitting, this only happens in private though. Bonus points if you caress his hair and ears, you can see the stump of his tail wag!

"Dabi, why are you standing under the rain? You'll get sick!" You worried, watching the man waiting for you outside your workplace. His black spiky hair had turned slick and damp, but his ears remained perked up with attentiveness as he watched you step out of the building. "Just making sure you walk home safe, nothing else." He grunted with his hands inside the pockets of his coat. "There were some drunk fucks a few blocks down."

You pulled out your umbrella and shielded him, "Yeah? Will you put them in their place if they misbehave?" He heard you joke, but the dark smirk he had on his face was enough to tell you an answer. "Who says I didn't take care of them already?"

Your mouth gaped for a moment in both worry and amazement, "Well, as long as they still breath."

"Yeah, they do... I think." Dabi snorted, wrapping an arm around your shoulder and flashing you a grin. "Now, let's get you home."

Bakugo + Chihuahua

• A lot of people think Chihuahuas are evil, crazy and aggressive rats. Most of the time, they'd be wrong, but in Katsuki's case, the stereotype applies... partially. Chihuahuas are very friendly and social under the right circumstances, but if they get too spoiled or babied, they can develop a rather snarky and corrosive personality! So, on one hand, he is very attentive at home and knows when and where to be cooperative; on the other, if you push his buttons, he won't hesitate to bite.

• He has big fluffy ears, always pointing towards the sky. The tail matches, coated in soft cream fur. Hates when people tries to pet him and will get easily annoyed with baby talk; he is supposed to be scary, not some sort of fashion accessory people could coddle!

• Anxious, but not in the "I will have a mental breakdown and cry" type. He is anxious as in, "I feel vulnerable or attacked in this situation and will maul anyone who tries to approach."

• Like many Chihuahuas, he likes to be treated as a "big dog". Stands all strong and stern, plays rough, and will pick up a fight with people twice his size if he somehow thinks he can win (happens often, no one knows how). Definition of delulu tiny dog, and sometimes needs a reality check.

• Won't use a collar! At least not in a visible way. If you end up being his significant other, he will wear a collar but very subtly.

• Doesn't handle extreme temperatures very well, specially considering his quirk. Give this pup a sweater for God's sake!

"Goddammit, stop touching my damn ears!" Bakugo barked, swatting your hand away from him as you giggled. "Sorry, they're just too cute! Look at them twitch when I poke them." You pointed out, earning a growl from the blond. In a swift movement, he pinned you down on the couch, frowning and baring his teeth to you.

"I'm not your pet!" He huffed but the smirk on your face made his eyes widen in realization: he still was wearing the collar you gave him, tucked underneath the shirt of his uniform. "Relax, I won't do it again, ok?" You assured.

With a flustered face Bakugo let go of you, ears dropping with embarrassment. "Shut up, dumbass..." The blond mumbled, hiding his adorned neck with his clothes. "Has anyone seen it?" You asked curious. "Of course not! And I would kill them if they do." Smiling, you giggled. He was such a grumpy puppy!

PLEASE LOOK UNDER THE CUT!!! I made all these nice drawings and doodles of them and I want people to see them without this post being super long! :') [My thoughts on the designs and doodles will be under the cut as well]

Okay NOW I'm going talk about my thought process on some of these:

Baby Rusty: I love the baby Rusty, the frilly socks and sleeves were a must. I actually drew her with the original set of genderbends but I turned off her layer and forgot about her 💀

Jonas Jr: not much to say about her, I tried to make her like Rosie the Riveter. Her little bandana has the Venture logo on it :)

Jonas Sr: I wanted her to be a hot bitch, her outfit is maybe a little scandalous for the time era they were in but I think it fits, canon Jonas is a whore. I think everybody would want her and that every celebrity, politician, and anybody with any power would chase after her so badly.

Blue Morpho: I made her so incredibly slay. I fucking love her outfit, I found the inspo for the outfit on Pinterest but I changed it up a bit. Also her gun has the bayonetta butterfly wings on it as a charm because I HAD TO.

Colonel Gentleman: Not a lot to say, I wanted to give her like horse riding esque boots and I gave her a purple flower cause she likes the ladies. I know generally WLW flowers are Violets and Lavender but I wanted to draw a rose so, Purple rose compromise <3

Dr.Boyfriend 2: With my last round Dr.Boyfriend was the only one people had complaints with. I think people wished he was more Masculine and I agree but if I switched up the design too much it wouldn't look like Dr.Girlfriend. I hope giving him armor and making him look like a knight helped him look more masc. I made the sheer wings cross over his chest to make it look like it was holding up the shoulder armor. Also his guild book is insanely high quality because I was procrastinating drawing his armor.

Goofy and Goober (Watch and Ward): I think they ended up really cute, I tried to make their hair colors close to Doc and Jacksons since I heard they are supposed to be like their "main" self inserts. With Ward I had a really specific idea for her hair, I kept thinking about this haircut from my sims and had to do it. It might be hard to see but her ponytail holders have skull charms on them. I also purposely gave them both some sort of ponytail hairstyle so they would match but be slightly different :) (They are absolutely prank calling or trolling their clients on that phone btw)

Shoreleave: OH MY GOD I LOVE SHORELEAVE. I kept turning her folder back on just to keep looking at her when I was drawing the other characters. She is so captivating to me, she looks so soft and human. I want to take a bite out of her thigh. My biggest inspo for her was Cammy from Street Fighter, I felt like her dressing a bit skimpy works for her since canon Shoreleave kinda does. The girls out for the girls.

Alchemist: I love her design so much too. I wanted her to look like some kind of nun or priestess. She looks like if a Zelda fire temple was a person. I kinda gave her like a weird little hime cut under the hood. Also I put the Triad logo on all three of their designs (+ Triana).

Jefferson: Had a lot of fun with her, I didnt change her design much from canon though so there's not much to say. I did give her more flared pants though. Drawing her hair was a really fun change of pace, I very rarely get to draw textured hair.

College Rusty and Monarch Drawing: I love this one, Monarch turned out so hot dude. You can tell what character I like more LMFAO. I made rusty very obnoxious 80s while keeping the colors of the original college rusty outfit. Monarch kind of looks like postal dude but its fine because shes slay.

Hereditary Venture Family Dinner Drawing: This was one of the first drawings I started but the second to last one I finished. I wanted to draw the family doing something together but I think I really truly just wanted to draw Dermott again. 😭 Nobody has said anything if they noticed but I did give hatred the shirt from these edits. (I believe the one on the left is from reddit and the one on the right is by SquashFold on Twitter)

Dermott piercing Dean's ears drawing: Even though its messy its in the top 3 favorites I did, It was also the last one I did. I just love the idea of Dermott giving goth Dean at home ear piercings. At first I didn't know if I wanted to make Dermott giving her piercings at the mall where she works or at home but the mall idea was too much work for a last minute sketch. Dermott is so mean older sister who shoplifts and works at the mall.

Drug bathroom drawing: Another one of my favorites, its based off a specific deleted scene from Invisible Hand of Fate where Pete and Rusty talk at the bar but Pete comes out of the bathroom sniffling at the start. I love the way I drew Pete pushing the hair out of her face and both of their expressions.

Bdsm 21 drawing: Okay first of all, The little devil Monarch was so cute I was screaming, crying, and throwing up while drawing her. I fucking love her, shes the smallest part of the image but my favorite. I also am quite fond of the bdsm 21.

Quizgirls Pete and Billy: I tried looking up Vanna White dresses to base Pete's outfit off of but I couldn't find one that Pete would actually wear so I just had to make shit up. Billy's design is really basic but the bow in her hair is actually from one of my rejected main Billy genderbends.

Me and The Bestie: I put a lot of effort into this one for no reason. Literally the moment I saw Jonas in the problem machine I thought he should be made of like blue slime. When I was working on this I kept thinking about Momopatchi's Hatsune Microbe drawing so this Jonas was definitely inspired by that. I gave Jonas makeup because she was having a party movie night on gargantua and I felt like she would still have makeup on thats like completely fucked up and deteriorating on her face after many many years. Vendata's outfit was partially based on Marguerite Chapman's from Flight to Mars, never seen it but I was looking up old sci-fi movie costumes to work with and I thought it would look good :)

whether you birth your own kid or adopt one, he would still love it with his most. gepard is super sweet and he wants to make sure you both are happy and to live comfortable in life.

even though he can be super busy and always have shifts as the captain of the silvermane guards, he will always always always attend to his child’s performances, birthdays and just in general a present father to them.

he would spoil his child/children so much… sometimes you have to tell him not to. but how could he deny those puppy eyes. he would attempt to sing lullabies or read stories to them all the time. you caught him one time trying to sing a lullaby and he just turned into a flustered mess.

would cook them meals and pack them snacks if needed. isnt the best cook but also not the worst. would always protect them and teach them how to do self defense. would let auntie serval babysit them if needed if you both are away.

overall a very good father figure. the type to listen to what his kid/s has to say. can be stern enough when lecturing his kids but you also have to be there or else he starts feeling really bad when his child starts tearing up after his lecture.

jing yuan

strict but sweet dad. he wants his kid to grow up responsible and strong while they also have fun but be also disciplined. (yanqing duh) sometimes you have to tell him to take it easy on yanqing and he understands where youre coming from. even though he is strict, he wouldnt insult or shout at his kid.

would bond with his kid a lot because bond is simply irreplaceable. he genuinely wants yanqing/his kid to be happy at what he is doing and regardless of what they want to do, he’d support it.

the father figure where his child can open up to him about anything. he would listen intently and give them a solid advice or answer a silly question. he would often relate them to his past experiences and tell them what he did in a similar situation.

is never worried. very confident in his kid/s abilities. lets say yanqing got an injury and he just isnt worried. already attending to him/asking doctors to heal him, while he has to calm you down. his kid is strong because they got it from him (doesnt care if its not hereditary, they still got it from him.)

⚠️Spoilers ahead for both series⚠️

So... about those takes that I have about this two (and a few others that I plan on drawing, don't worry, we'll get there), well, you can see that Phoenix is Crowley while Miles is Aziraphale...

It makes sense, I swear-

At first I was thinking of them but reverse (Phoenix as Aziraphale and Miles as Crowley) because, ngl they could fit either role anyway.

But character-wise? I think this is the best, mostly because of interactions the four of them had on their respective series.

To give an example, this dialogue in Ace Attorney:

It feels strangely similar to Aziraphale's "hereditary enemies" dialogue in the first season.

I might need to write some things down or else I will forget, fuck- (I'm writing this without any plan, help)

But hear me out, I'm not crazy-

Just take a look at Aziraphale's and Miles' fashion sense, that old-timey style they both have (and it's even more obvious with Miles' debut suit), that stubborn personality and undying faith about their side (Prosecutor's Office and heaven), etc.

While Phoenix's and Crowley's personality are more care-free, going their own way, their own side, bluffing away their problems and always chasing or following their "best friend" anywhere.

Phoenix getting a law degree just so he can reach Miles and save him, Crowley always being there for Aziraphale when needed and saving him...

Do you see where I'm getting at?

Also, you remember that scene with the bookshop being on fire and Crowley thinking that Aziraphale was dead?

..."Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth chooses death."

Yeah... the only difference is that Aziraphale didn't dissapear for a whole year and much less left a cryptid ass note behind and it wasn't really his fault-

But the feeling is quite similar, isn't it?

Now, after all the sad or complex feelings aside, let's see more happy things that I noticed:

Crowley's fondness of children / Phoenix's habit of adopting kids anywhere he goes.

Aziraphale liking yellow because it reminds him of Crowley's eyes / Miles finding a particular shade of blue relaxing once in a while.

Crowley's tendency of following Aziraphale like a dog following its owner / Phoenix's constant chasing after Miles (and also having a dog-like personality.)

Aziraphale not admitting that Crowley is his friend (or that he likes his company) / Miles also not admitting Phoenix is his friend (or that he likes his company.)

Yeah... the pattern is getting more obvious the more you look at it...

But I guess this is enough for one post, if you read it all the way, thank you for indulging my delusional brain!

Some notes about Oswald’s depression.

Tw : for slight discussions/hints of alcoholism and ED

a big part of his depression is hereditary— The Kapelputs were very traditional in a sense. He came from a rich family, and because they often had to wear societal masks and confine themselves into shackles, there was a lot of depression going around. Some had gone mad and rejected by the family. Some needed a push to go mad like his mother, and some just lived with it. The point is. The sorrows were a constant companion to the Kapelputs. His mother, Gertrude, escaped the family, and she and her son didn’t have to live in that same confinement, but Gotham is a hard place to grow up in, and the trauma from balancing different jobs, often bad ones, and taking care of his mother took their toll on him.

Oswald’s depression translates to hunger. It’s a special type of hunger that can never be satisfied. He drank and smoked a lot, to numb the sorrows and quiet the demons, but they were still there. his hunger also translated into desire. He desired distractions, things to care for. If he has something to care for, to love, then he’s alright. He can’t think of a life where he has nothing to take care of. It was his mother, then the city, eventually he met Edward who was a man who needed attention and care, he started keeping birds when he stopped drinking, adopted Martin, and so and so. He’s always looking for something to care for.

another thing is that, despite it all, sometimes the depression takes its toll on him. He often wore very strong scented perfume because sometimes he’d go without a shower for weeks and he was too ashamed of it. He needed to mask his smell somehow. His body was riddled with stretch marks because his appetite was always affected by it. He grew white hair at a young age because of all the stress and sadness, and he’s just tired most of the time. thankfully, the things he grew to care for grew to care for him as well. so as a biology major, here's some things i've been chewing on after reading the unwanted guest. this post is brought to you by the part of my brain that saw the 7th's hereditary blood cancer and thought ok but what KIND of cancer is that.

the phrasing of "permeability of the soul" makes me think of semipermeable membranes and diffusion. diffusion is a passive process -- our molecules, when left to their own devices, want to be everywhere because entropy, but the semipermeable membranes that make up cells organelles etc make life possible by keeping things organized. this dividing & filtering process is required to keep things in place. with me so far?

to me, this concept of permeability emphasizes that souls are objects with boundaries. there's a line somewhere, however blurry (clearly very very blurry) or porous, that divides self & other, and! and!! that line only exists because it is somehow constructed, maintained, enforced. see: ianthe working so hard to convince herself/pal/the hypothetical audience of this play she's putting on that she's just ianthe with no babs mixed in. or john's ritual of retelling his story to alecto/harrow in NTN. something something being the unreliable narrator of your own identity.

palamedes calls the process that merges him and camilla to give us paul grand lysis vs. the "petty", incomplete lysis of eightfold word lyctorhood. lysis = the disintegration of a cell by rupture of the cell wall or membrane. the boundaries of their souls are sliced open so their contents can be poured out & mixed together to make someone new. but even in conventional lyctorhood, there's some kind of exchange of whatever material makes up the soul between cavalier & necromancer. as our boy tells ianthe at the end of the unwanted guest,

tamsyn muir is so precise with her necromancy jargon & anatomical terms that i feel like there's definitely meaning to be found in the imagery here. there is poetry in biology, the universe is made of stories not of atoms, etc etc

it turns out lysis is also the title of a dialogue of plato on "the true nature of loving friendship," so if any classics enjoyers have thoughts on that connection i would love to hear them!

if lyctorhood is transplantation, is it possible for that transplant to be rejected? can the graft refuse to take?

souls are contained within their edges not unlike how a cell membrane contains its cytoplasm. or how a capri sun pouch contains its juice. and lyctors slurp that shit up and digest it baby

why choose to link the soul so closely with water? (the river, bubbles, currents & waves in the river, nona saying the water of the river "doesn't want to touch us.") contents of souls = liquid in the same way that the river is a liquid??? the river = spirit version of the primordial soup???

dulcinea refers to the river having two shores, not just a generic "shore", so it sounds like they're different in some meaningful way. but that may be conditional on what happens in alecto ("if this ends well you'll find that out")? is the point of the river the river itself, or is the point of the river to separate those two places?

I feel like psychological horror movies fuck with him more so he watches those.

Jessie loved Jason and Freddy Crouger, so when its a horror movie night Seth watched them when he was younger to feel like she was there.

Also pillowfort is a must, bc you need max comfort to watch a good movie.

I feel like Charlie isn't that big of a horror movie fan but he'll watch some with Cas when they want to.

He was deathly afraid of Chucky but now older, when watching it again he makes fun of the people who didn't lick the fuckin doll.

Also loves commenting on stuff, good if you like chatting but if needed shut him up with a kiss.

I feel like he likes watching documentary horror movies like the Blair witch project or As above so below.

Holding your hand and the other one is in a big popcorn bag.

Faust:

I feel like he doesn't like horror movies that much bc he can predict what's gonna happen.

But he also likes the movies that fuck with your head, like Marrowbone.

He likes eating crunchy snacks while watching movies.

He feels bad when he connects everything together and speaks out loud bc it ruins the movie sometimes but unless you ask what he thinks will happen he'll tell you.

Legs are lapped over yours as you share a blanket.

LOVES HORROR MOVIES (personal hc) his grandma def made him watch old horror movies to show him classics.

Has old tapes and player so you can watch what he watched when younger.

Gets snacks and makes drinks so you both can enjoy the movie

A nightmare on Elm Street gives me his vibes or even The shining.

Sitting right next to you, he gets really into the movie so if you wanna hold hands or something you gotta do it first.

Like Faust can't enjoy horror movies bc he predicts everything.

I feel like he's one of those crazy people that doesn't eat anything while watching a movie.

Prefers to watch movies at home then go to a theater since they just want money, but if you want too he will plan a date at one.

Children of the Corn, Pet Sematary, the Conjuring and RING are horror movies he likes watching.

Likes having your legs on him and you laying your body on him while holding your thigh too.

Lucien:

Will laugh at anyone who dies, also will critique the demon horror movies like Drag me to Hell.

I feel like he likes the horror movies that could happen in real life like the purge.

Makes his own snacks and your bc you both should feast like kings while watching someone die in a hella dumb way.

Since he's only been in the human realm for a while he'll watch anything.

Laying down in the couch slightly, like sitting up enough to eat comfortably, won't care if you lay or sit on him he can handle it.

Like Finn he likes older horror movies but will watch new ones too!

I can feel that he might like psychological horror too like The Grass, Get out, The strangers and Rub Rabbit.

I feel like he only eats soft things while watching movies. Also drinks water rather than a flavored drink.

Since Jack is busy with side jobs he makes sure to have one day out of the week to watch moves with you!

Sitting next to you not touching bc he use to watch so many horror moves with Finn growing up. Just like Finn if you wanna hold hands either hold his or tell him!

Slowly rotating combining my cryptid omegaverse Gotham (where they can swap and switch between secondary sexes and if you stay in Gotham long enough your scent starts to disappear as well) and my Dragon Curse Gotham (Originally a DP crossover but probably wouldn't for the main AU) prompts. Into its own Au.

Where Gotham can change into dragons, and it's like the One thing they all keep secret from Outsiders. Everyone has three forms depending on the secondary sex they are at the time, while children have a form similar to a parent just, more stone-colored for camouflage. If that makes sense.

So normally I'd make world-building from scratch but I'm not drawing dragons from scratch for this. Like three for each character ever? Ehhh, sorry not happening lol. So I'll probably use Flight Rising or something similar to come up with things to base their dragon forms off of.

Anyway if you're here, hope you don't mind ramblings lol.

Everyone in the world is either Alpha/Beta/Omega/Delta but Gotham is cryptid-like in that they can change their secondary sex at will

The longer ones family has been in Gotham the quicker while newcomers might take months for a single shift

It’s a well-kept secret of Gotham having a more benevolent curse of people becoming dragons

The form is influenced by whatever secondary gender they are at the time

Unless they are children in which case their form is similar to whatever their parents’ might be, but a solid gray-black color that camouflages with the Gotham streets 

Gotham also has several animals & plants similarly mutated well, everything

Reality warping is also canonically an issue with an entire street disappearing every week & gravity around certain places being odd on certain days

So if You're a Gothamite you get to have a third dragon puberty where you start getting your adult forms and colors and all that stuff

So in other words, Gotham is Really Fucking Weird to the rest of the world. Some people might and probably would use it to transition though, also helped by the fact that there's so many scholarships in Gotham. I mean, look at how many of the rogues have PHDs.

Now the Delta thing is semi-important because for example Clark, as an alien, doesn't have a scent. Which mean he's very much Noticed the first time he's sent by Perry to Gotham. He's kind of confused as to why he's so welcomed compared to all the other Daily Planet reporters, but he's not complaining. And it gives him an excuse for his scent, as it is known that Gotham is in fact Like That when it comes to scent disappearing and other such things.

tips for writing arab characters

writer here!! im a middle eastern writer whos noticed that theres a VERY significant lack of info on how to write arabs, so im here to help !! (however, keep in mind that im specifically gulf arab and may not be able to provide as much info on levant arabs or north african arabs. if there are any on here, feel free to reblog w more info !! )

dont get arabs mixed up w muslims. yes, a large portion of the arab population are muslim, but youd be surprised at the number of non-muslim arabs that exist. if you wanna write abt a muslim character, a post i made that might help is here

'p' and 'g' (as in 'gurgle' or 'goal') dont exist in the arabic alphabet, theyre replaced with 'b' and 'j' 

depending on where theyre from, they may also learn a third language besides arabic and english (e.g. moroccans know french, a berber arab may know berber)

appearance:

arabs look different based on where theyre from. if theyre from the arabian peninsula, they have thick curly dark hair, tanned skin, and dark eyes. levant arabs are lighter skinned, and green/blue eyes are more common with them

adding on to previous point, arabs have a variety of skin tones, even if theyre siblings. using a real example, me and my older brother respectively look white passing and afro hispanic

dark irises are considered better looking than lighter colored eyes. eyes are usually thick-lashed, with big round slightly upturned eyes 

big noses are common, along with full lips (and hereditary dark circles for those with more tanned skin)

high cheekbones and well structured faces are also prevalent

culture:

varies depending on location

influenced by indian culture, IS NOT INTERCHANGEABLE WITH INDIAN CULTURE. that was aladdins mistake

poetry is so common, especially with romantic themes

songs also have romantic themes

youd be surprised at how romantic arabs are

dances vary extremely, from dabke (palestinean dance done in groups, consisting largely of leg/foot movements) to yola (emirati dance with battle origins, done using canes or fake guns) i recommend watching videos (tiktok has a lot of videos esp of dabke)

women also dance but you wont find a lot of videos of it bc its inappropriate

etiquette:

things such as giving someone your back, or facing the bottom of your feet towards someone are considered rude 

pda is also taboo (even with straight couples or even sometimes married couples)

cheek kisses are a common way of greeting, but not between genders

in some gulf countries, men greet each other with a nose kiss (not in an intimate way) just stubbing their noses against each other

genders do not mix at all. schools tend to divide girls and boys into two sections starting at a certain age (around age 10/11), and mosques are split into the mens side (usually larger than womens bc men use the mosque more)

having an extramarital relationship is very very taboo (even w hetero relationships) but it still happens. a lot. 

family dynamics (note that this is obviously a spectrum. this is the general dynamic, but obv it ranges from family to family):

NOT ALL OF US HAVE ABUSIVE PARENTS. sure theyll spank you if you skip school, but thats not necessarily abusive. its more strict, and youd be surprised at the amount of freedom some parents give their kids

yes, arranged marriages do happen. no, they arent necessarily forced, it just means that your parents had a hand in deciding who youll marry. yes, marrying cousins is a thing, but its much less prevalent now (also, ew)

fathers care. a lot. they dont show it, but they do. they also tend to joke around a lot

mothers tend to be the rule enforcers, and by far our moms are our best friends. we tell them EVERYTHING i swear 

aunties gossip a lot

uncles are a safety hazard

its not uncommon to have a large number of cousins (mainly bc arabs tend to have a lot of kids)

the average number of children 3 per woman, but from personal experience the older the generation the more kids (e.g. my great-grandmother had a whopping thirteen kids, my grandmother had seven, my mom has six, but a couple of my aunts only have one or two)

social class/work environment/school environment:

schools tend to be either arab curriculums but there is a high density of american/british curriculum schools

boys and girls tend to be separated in school around age nine/ten but some schools will be mixed genders up till graduation

yes, women work, tho admittedly some of them tend to have careers more than jobs (e.g. photographer, writer, etc while the men handle engineering, economics, etc)

no, not all of us are rich. in fact, countries like jordan, egypt, tunisia, morocco, and yemen (and infamously palestine) are acc struggling w poverty. its mainly just gulf arabs who are rich

furthermore, gulf arabs may be generally rich but a large chunk of them have the same lifestyle as an upper-middle class family in the usa. rich but not too rich. dont be fooled by the videos of guys wearing kandoras and driving lambos

speaking of kandoras...

outfits (keep in mind that spelling may vary since its all transliteration, and pronunciation may vary depending on region) (also keep in mind that even if we still live in the middle east, WE CAN WEAR JEANS AND HOODIES AND BAND SHIRTS. just, usually cover up more in public):

abaya: loose overgarment worn by women

jilbab/chandoor: also worn by women, type of long dress or tunic

the white robe all of yall know is known as a thobe, dishdasha, or kandora

the colored headscarf worn by men is known as a ghuthrain in the gulf, kevfiah in the levant. its kept in place with a black cord called a aghal, and under it they wear a skullcap called a thagiyah

those are the most common ones, however if youd like to get a lil more specific on clothong, the ultimate guide to arab clothing is here (it also has specified clothing for individual countries)

how bridgerton season three could have prevented its mondrich problem

it's pretty clear that Bridgerton S3 has no idea what to do with the Mondriches. Without the Duke of Hastings there to anchor them to the main storyline they're just sort of adrift. In principle, the show's choice to ennoble them via their son is a good one, unfortunately there is a key flaw in the execution that makes the whole thing fall flat.

here's how that could have been prevented.

first we need to delve a bit into some trivia about British peerages. The hereditary ones are in descending order of rank: duke, marquess, earl, viscount, baron. A duchy (the title and land holding of a duke) is big and has a big name to go with it, usually the name of a county or city, eg Cornwall, Cambridge, Sussex, Westminster, Devonshire, among those titles currently held. Dukes are either members of the royal family or very high ranking hereditary nobles. Duchies come with a lot of land, which in the 19th century meant farms, tenants, country estates, etc etc. They're a Big Deal.

why is this important? Well, it's not, really. Regency romances have always played fast and loose with noble titles and Bridgerton in particular features some frankly absurd ones. However, even with that understood, the title the show chose to give the Mondriches' son, Baron of Kent, is especially ridiculous.

Kent is a county, a pretty big one. Baron is the lowest rank of nobility. Hereditary barons' titles usually refer to a town or smaller land areas. But the biggest reason Baron of Kent would not be a thing in the 19th century is that Kent is and historically has been either a duchy, a march, or an earldom, frequently royal ones. The current Duke of Kent is a cousin of the late Queen.

so why bother making up a Baron of Kent in the first place when the Duke of Kent is right there? Bridgerton is pretty aggressively ahistorical but there is actually a real historical basis for that. The royal dukedom of Kent was awarded in 1799 but then in 1820 the duke died without an heir and the title became (temporarily) extinct.

how perfect then, for the title in its Bridgerton iteration to be inherited by a distant relative of this royal duke, so distant that he's the son of a working class family. That would make the house and jewellery collection that came with their title--both far too opulent for a baron--much more plausible. It would also give Queen Charlotte (another character the show mishandles) something to do besides pout about how dull the season is. Imagine if she decided to take under her wing the boy who inherited her late cousin's title. Imagine the potential for conflict with the boy's parents, the struggle they would have balancing their new (massive, remember duchies are big) responsibilities to their tenants along with their role in society and how that would vibe with their identities and their roots. Instead of the basic boring snobbery of "you can't work in a club and be an aristocrat" the Mondriches could really cause a stir by bringing working class ideals into a hidebound ancient duchy. They could clash with the queen and with the other nobles, they could inspire some valuable change. And as the parents of a duke there would be very few people in a position to look down on them. They would really be able to do pretty much whatever they wanted and the exploration of what that might look like for regular people, good people, abruptly thrust into a position of near-limitless money and power, well. It has so much potential.

Pairing: Dad!Ominis Gaunt x Reader

Summary: Your blind son discovers his ability to see through the eyes of magical creatures and gives you quite a fright.

A/N: I've never watched GoT but I'm going to be treating this like Eivor's ability to see through her raven's eyes in Assassin's Creed Valhalla and hope it's alright 😅 Aka, Eivor herself can't move while in this state but she can control the raven and see through its eyes.

Going in line with my personal Dad!Ominis headcanon, him and reader have two kids: Seraphina and Marcus. + I don't know how well 10 year old kids can speak so just read it all in a baby voice 🫡

The ability first manifested itself when your child turned 10 years old. Ominis was out taking Seraphina to the park when you suddenly heard a loud thud. Panicked, you raced upstairs only to find Marcus sprawled on the floor unmoving except for the slow rise and fall of his chest. You raced to his side with tears in your eyes trying to figure out what was wrong when you heard incessant tapping on the bedroom window. You were too focused on your unresponsive child but the tapping just become louder and more frequent. A quick glance over to the window revealed a green Jobberknoll with familiar pale eyes. Identical to the ones of your beloved husband and the same ones passed on to the very child you were trying to awaken. Noticing that it had grabbed your attention, the Jopperknoll started trying to wave one of its wings which made it lose balance and almost fall. But the strangely human gesture finally helped clue you in to the situation at hand. "Is that you, Marcus?" The Jobberknoll responded with a squawk and a nod, which only added to your confusion. You've never heard of this ability before but it certainly did seem like your child. Suddenly, the Jobberknoll dipped below the window and you felt movement coming from Marcus. He suddenly shot up from the floor with the largest smile you've ever seen on his little face. "I... I could see!" He said excitedly, "Everything was so bright and there were so many colours!" Marcus felt around him before latching onto you, who was still in shock, "And you're kneeling right here! I could see from the window!" His voice was getting higher the more excited he got. "I could see!" He exclaimed once more in wonder while holding onto you. Naturally, once Ominis and Seraphina came home they were in for quite a surprise when you told them the news. Ominis was ecstatic, thrilled his son could experience something he could not. Seraphina, while happy for her brother, was already leading him to the side and brainstorming all the new pranks they could now pull off with his ability to connect with Jobberknolls. Could he connect with other creatures? Could the he control a Puffskein and start sticking his tongue in everyone's face? The possibilities were endless for the two giddy children.

You and Ominis listened to the excited children with fond smiles on your faces. While you were too far away to catch the specifics of what they were saying, based on Ominis' cheeky laughter you knew it wasn't anything good. You sighed in your head and mentally prepared yourself for the inevitable heart attack you'll get from seeing magical beasts come running up to you with Marcus' eyes.

Later that night while the kids were asleep and you and Ominis were cozily wrapped up in each other's arms, he pouted into your neck and asked "If I hold a Jobberknoll long enough, do you think I could become it the way Marcus did?"

"I don't think that's how it works dear," you mumbled out, already half asleep.

While he also knew it probably wouldn't be possible, this seemed like an innate gift after all, he still deflated at your answer. Feeling this, you turned around so you could face him and cupped his face to bring it closer to yours. "But... I hear Cressida is making progress on a charm for glasses that could let you see. Still under development of course but she owled me earlier saying she had a major breakthrough! While it might not be right away, someday you'll be able to see our children."

Ominis smiled at that, a small smile full of hope.

I'm spiralling again because I was thinking about Liam and his IED storyline and remembered Liam said he takes Risperidone which in reality is the wrong meds for him to even be taking since that is used for schizophrenia and other things where those with IED are usually prescribed with meds that are used for those with Bipolar disorder like Fluoxetine, Phenytoin, Lithium, Oxcarbazepine, and Carbamazepine.

We should hqve seen Liam in therapy which is something they have those with IED do to realistically do it right and explore it more instead of having us constantly watch him be forced to fight his IED like Scott and Stiles forcing him under the shower to "cool off" during the scene we discovered his IED and from things I've read up on that is not advised for trying to calm down a person with IED when they are having an episode(yeah ok they didn't know about the IED at the time). Also seeing Stiles judging Liam for not taking his meds since it makes him feel drained and tired for Lacrosse when he shouldn't even be on the stuff, they introduced us to his step dad as a doctor so as a doctor why wouldn't he know his step sons being prescribed with meds that will not realistically HELP him.

ALSO looking at some of the potential causes for IED being these

Like we know Liam has a step father in David Geyer, but is the reason Bio dad's not in picture is due to these. Was he abusive to Liam and his mother and lash out causing Liam to develop IED as he grew up due to the trauma of it all. Did bio dad have IED himself and pass it on to Liam as its said it can be hereditary. It would be a cop out in the writers and jeffs part to decide to make the reason for it being Liams male(Also wouldn't surprise me though)

Liams a complex character in the long run and I wish we learned more about him and his family life, even though he really is more than the IED like he's my lil history nerd jock and as much as I love Theo it feels like they should have chose more than JUST him to help him with it in S6 and so on, since going back to S5 Theo is the one to manipulate liams anger and potentially cause one of his biggest episodes when he tried to kill scott(his other id say being the result of Brett and Co's locking him and beating him at the zoo and trashing the coachs car) so at the same time Theo may of been the perfect character to spend a half a season being the one trying to stop Liam giving into the anger and an episode with Nolan etc after manipulating it the season before, it feels like we should of seen Mason, Scott etc trying too in it.

Long post! (Discussing Gothic Horror, Der Wolfsjäger, Werewolves, and why I love all of these things) I love Gothic horror, the aesthetic, of ruin, the haunting atmosphere, and the feeling that something old and dangerous and powerful lingers just outside of sight. The biggest aesthetic hallmark of Gothic horror is probably the lone decaying castle, this haunting vestige of the past intruding on our present day idea of normalcy and safety. But there's another aspect of Gothic horror that isn't as prominent that I have an affinity for.

I like the primal side of it. Statues inscribed with symbols no one can read anymore devoured by vines and fallen leaves. I like the beastly and barbaric side of that haunting feeling. That strange hereditary reminder of a time when forests were endless and dark with little refuge for man. Enter the werewolf. I am fascinated by the idea of people, even against their will, being returned to this savage state. I think most humans have an inherent discomfort with the idea that we are animals. We are fragile, we hunger, we are made of soft flesh that can be devoured.

Remembering that we are no more than animals somehow reminds us of a time we didn't exist in. That time when the forests were endless and we were few. It's frightening, it makes us feel small, it takes away our sense of control and safety. It shatters our delusions of power. But there's also something cathartic about completely immersing yourself in the things that make your afraid and uncomfortable. The Gothic werewolf is symbolic of this. The man living among us who has completely submitted to the brutal nature that still exists in all of us.

I say Gothic werewolf as a distinction from other kinds of more sympathetic, palatable, and less horror-centric werewolves. The Gothic werewolf is haunting. He's cunning and cruel. He does not see human life as special or valuable. He never stops being a wolf, even when in the form of a human.

I adore this. It's also one of the things that makes the Werewolves in my writing special. They don't see themselves as humans who become wolves, they see themselves as something completely different. They're characterized by their sickening disdain for civilization. In Matador Gothic when Alfonso asks Rampage to reveal his true fork he rebukes him, telling him that his wolf form *is* his true form. Mondheulers in Der Wolfsjäger wait patiently for the full moon, waiting to kill again, sometimes killing and maiming impulsively even as humans.

Blutschreibers in Der Wolfsjäger have to spend over a decade in the wild as wolves before they gain the ability to transform back into humans. This return to feral barbarism, and the allure of giving into it, is what gives them their flavor. The Blutschreibers are particularly unique, not only in the sense that they are haunted by spirits, but because underneath all of their barbarism and savagery there is a frightening level of intelligence and cunning that we as humans find frightening in something so animalistic.

We see barbarism as beneath our intellect. Something we left behind in the past for more intellectual and sophisticated virtues. Seeing something as intelligent as us, if not more, rip flesh and wield brutal strength is disturbing not only for its physical danger, but in the way it assaults our comforting worldview.

I'm excited for all the neglected and untapped potential for werewolf horror in audio roleplay. I'm writing Der Wolfsjäger with renewed enthusiasm now. Have fun! And remember, if you see a wolf in the wild, he always saw you first.
