Summary: Our story continues with Reader processing the shocking news that Tommy has given her, and Tommy helping to plan the next step.

Content Warnings and general info: Not much to warn of here. Flirting again and alcohol consumption. I think that's it.

This chapter's a little longer. And I know I'm zooming along a bit here, but please don't always expect quick chapters. I write as the creative bug hits. Sometimes it's faster and sometimes it's slow.

Chapter 2 - The Last Time You Gave Out Your Number

You know you're staring, wide eyed, lips barely parted with your jaw dropping a little. Lines crease your forehead as your eyebrows lift and knit together, your breaths shallow.

"Wh-wha…?"

The beer in its amber-colored bottle sloshes in your hands as they start trembling and you look down at the sound. Then, you nearly jump out of your skin when Tommy reaches out to take it from you and sets it on the bartop, his other hand coming to rest on your forearm, trying to sooth you.

"Hey… hey, Eeps. It's alright. Take some deep breaths, okay?"

You clench your eyes closed, nodding and trying to do as he suggests.

In through your nose. Count to four. Out through your mouth. Count to four. Repeat.

Repeat. Repeat.

His words keep echoing, ricocheting around in your skull like the ball in a pinball machine.

Joel's alive, Eeps. Joel's alive. Alive.

Your hammering heart is refusing to calm down and you finally decide to just let it continue its impromptu tap dance within your chest. Lifting your eyes back up to Tommy's concerned face, you swallow against the cotton that's taken up occupancy in your mouth before you manage to speak.

"You're serious?"

The side of his mouth twists up slightly with a somewhat indignant expression. "You really think I'd tease you about something like that?"

It only takes you a brief moment of thought to shake your head 'no'.

Tommy's big hand pats your arm gently as he nods, and then he steps back to settle onto his stool again. Picking up his glass, he takes a swig of the whiskey before a wry smile touches his lips. "Honestly…he'll probably think I'm making some cruel joke, too, when I tell him."

Your teeth sink in hard on your lower lip, until the tender skin turns white and aches when you release it a moment later. "He's here?" you whisper.

Tommy nods. "Yeah." Then he pauses and cringes. "Well, actually, no. Not at the moment. He's out with a patrol group for a few days."

You're not sure if the breath that rushes out of your lungs is a sigh of disappointment or relief. Because you're not sure how you feel yet.

Everything in your head, everything you believed, just changed so suddenly.

You need time to process.

Turning on your own stool to face the bar, your elbows rest on the bartop and your head drops into your hands, fingers buried in your hair. You close your eyes, trying once again to calm the staccato beat of your heart with a few more slow breaths.

You can feel Tommy watching you for a few moments, before he starts talking again. Despite your near panic attack, you smile tightly. You remember that he used to do this when he got nervous about something: start yammering a bit, like the silence had to be filled.

But his voice is nice –though not as nice as Joel's– so you try to use the sound of it to help ground you.

"They should be back in a few days. He's always a bit…temperamental after a longer patrol. So, it'll probably be best not to spring the news on him too suddenly." There's a pause and you can hear Tommy take another swallow of his drink, then he's speaking again, quickly. "Now, I'm not sayin' we don't tell him. Just that we probably shouldn't show up with you at the door, ya know? Like some ghost outta the past." He gives a little chuckle at that and then sounds serious again as he continues. "Let me go talk to him. Break the news, gentle. Give him time to adjust to the idea."

You're nodding as you listen. Your heart has finally slowed down, but soon the sensation is replaced by a vice around your chest. You turn your head a little, to look over at Tommy out of the corner of your eye.

"You know, he might not want to see me at all, Tommy."

He's still for a moment. Then his head gives a real slow turn and he's looking at you again… with an expression suggesting you've grown a second head.

A shrug lifts your shoulders as your temple rests against your clasped hands.

"You do remember that I'm the one that left, right?"

Tommy makes a soft scoffing noise, setting his now empty glass down across the bartop to wait for a refill. "Only 'cause you both agreed it was best…and possibly temporary. Not like you could've known the whole fuckin' world was gonna end."

Your shrug is noncommittal. "Yeah… I guess. But still," you say, pausing to lick your dry lips, "twenty years is a long time."

Nodding, Tommy reaches over to give your shoulder a gentle squeeze. "I know, Eeps, but I still think he'll be glad to see you. Hell, when you left it was me that he was mad at."

Your brows pinch together again in a confused scowl at him.

He smiles at you, shrugging. "Kept telling me that I should have convinced him what a dumbass he was being, before he ever let ya get on that plane."

You snort at him with a scoff. "'Before he let me'?"

His smile doesn't falter. "Oh, you know what I mean."

A faint chuckle passes your lips and you smirk, giving a rueful shake of your head. Then you finally pick up your beer again to take a sip, just as the bartender comes over to refill Tommy's glass.

You're both quiet for a little while then, each lost in thought and nursing your drinks.

You tilt your head at him after a bit "What made him think you could have convinced him? You Miller boys aren't exactly known for a lack of stubbornness."

The exaggerated face he makes at you suggests that you've hurt his feelings, his hand pressing over his heart. You just laugh in return and roll your eyes. He grins before taking a swig of his drink.

"Well, I did help convince his stubborn ass to finally ask you out in the first place, after all."

You smirk at that, conceding his point with a faint shrug and a nod.

It had been nearly a month since the party celebrating the completion of the hotel, and you kept trying to forget about Joel Miller and his warm eyes.

That was turning out to be difficult.

After all, you had spent most of that evening within arms reach of him.

The two of you had been chatting for about twenty minutes when you were joined by his brother, and then the three other junior level architects, like yourself, from your firm. The party was proving to be a bit too boring and lofty for those of you under fifty and a certain tax bracket. So, after lingering a little while longer (as a show of support), all of you ducked out and found your way down the road a few blocks to a pool hall and bar.

What followed was hours of games of pool that made no logical sense within any standard rules. That, and a lot of alcohol, and absolutely shameless flirting by most of your group. Tommy even disappeared at one point with Colleen, one of your sweeter co-workers.

The night had ended long after midnight, with you tucking a cocktail napkin with your number scrawled on it into Joel's shirt pocket as he leaned down to give a sweetly chaste kiss to your cheek. His thin mustache and patchy beard had tickled your skin and you had beamed up at him, even giving him a final, flirty wink once he closed the taxi door. His grin as the car pulled away showed off that adorable dimple, and you settled back in the seat for the ride, butterflies dancing in your belly.

Then more than three weeks had passed and you still hadn't heard from him.

You were disappointed, to say the least. You really hadn't thought the chemistry between you had been one sided. Maybe you were wrong though. Maybe a more sober Joel had decided you weren't quite right for him.

So, you tried to forget about the sexy and slightly awkward contractor.

The latest design project at work helped with that as you settled in to assist a senior architect with a new contract. You were planning out house designs for a new residential area on the east end of the city that was going to be developed soon. The client, a well-known developer in southern Texas, wanted twenty house designs for their customers to choose from. The lead architect had given you the assignment of designing five of them.

It was your largest project to date and you dove into it with enthusiasm. House design was your passion, far beyond office buildings, warehouses, retail locations, and skyscrapers. Houses were more personal to you. They were where people made their homes and lived out their lives, building their families and facing the troubles of the world together along the way.

You loved being an indirect part of that.

By mid-May, a month after the hotel party, you were so engrossed in reading a report from the new project that you almost didn’t see Joel Miller as you walked right past where he was standing inside the lobby of your firm’s building. Your heels clicked over the tiled floor until you stopped short several steps past him. Looking up from the paper in your hand and scowling softly, you stared towards the exit for a moment.

Was that…?

You slowly turned on your toes to look back and your brows arched up sharply at finding him standing a few feet away, a sheepish smile tugging up one side of his mouth as he met your eyes.

He was just as frustratingly good-looking as you remembered. His dark, chestnut brown hair was a little longer now, just long enough to be wavy and have a carefree, tousled look. His beard was a little thinner, like he’d shaved more recently than he had on the night you’d met. Those dark eyes were as warm as you remembered though. Hell, maybe even more.

And were his shoulders really that broad a month ago or was his simple rust-red, button-up shirt a size too small?

Different emotions danced around in your head and chest for a moment. Excitement. Confusion. Annoyance. Hope. Anger. Attraction. It took a few breaths for your body and mind to settle on two to focus on: confusion and a touch of annoyance.

Your brows peaked together and your mouth opened and closed a couple of times as you tried to decide on what to say. Finally, you heaved a sigh and dropped your hand down to your side from where it had been frozen, holding up the report you had been reading.

“Joel?”

Well, duh…

He shrugged those stupidly broad shoulders and nodded, that sheepish look still plastered on his stupidly handsome face. “Yeah...”

For a breath you just stared at him and then you huffed a laugh, shaking your head in disbelief. “Um… Hi,” you said uncertainly, the end of the word lilting up like a question. “What are you doi-?” Your words caught in your throat as your brows lifted upward again. “You brought me…flowers?”

There’s a hint of redness that crawls up his neck and touches at his ears, and you can see his Adam’s apple bob as he swallows hard. He lifts the small bouquet of white and pink lilies up in one hand as the other rubs at the back of his neck. “Yeah,” he said again, his brows knitting together. “Sarah…my kid…she said I owed you at least that, if I hoped for you to talk to me at all after so long; much less say ‘yes’ if I ask you out.”

You pursed your lips together at that, nostrils flaring as you took a deep breath against the butterflies that leapt into fluttering action in your stomach. Silence hovered in the air for a few seconds as you debated over how to respond.

Eventually, your shoulders relaxed a little and you sighed softly, focusing on the flowers for a moment. They really were pretty. Lilies were your favorite flower, after all. You couldn’t remember if you had told him that or not. Maybe he had just made a lucky guess?

Regarding him with a softer, but still guarded, expression, a little smirk tugged up the corner of your mouth. “Smart kid.”

His hesitant smile widened slightly and he nodded. “She really is.” With a cautiously hopeful look, he held the bouquet out to you.

This time you hesitated for a moment, breath stilling in your lungs. Then you gave a soft laugh and a resigned sigh, reaching out to accept the peace offering and jerking your head towards the exit.

Leading the way outside, heels clicking again, you brought the flowers up to your nose and inhaled their rich aroma for a moment with your eyes fluttering closed. Then, as you heard Joel’s heavy work boots fall into step next to you, you glanced over at him.

“I’m parked a block and a half away,” you said, pointing down the street. “You have until I reach my car.”

Joel swallowed hard again as he stuffed his big hands into his jean pockets and nodded. “Okay. Um…’m sorry,” he started, and then gave an embarrassed shrug. “I wanted to call, but… I lost your number.”

Your head turns back to him sharply and you give him an incredulous look.

He chuffed a little with another embarrassed shrug. “Hand to God. I forgot to take it outta my pocket before Sarah started a load of laundry a couple days later. It turned into… mush.” His lip and mustache curled upward a little on one side as he said the last word with distaste.

Your lips pressed into a line as you looked straight ahead again, trying not to giggle. Of any excuse that he could have given you, that was not one that had made your list of guesses.

Joel’s faint laugh was a low rumble beside you and it was gone before it really started. Still, it sent a spark of interest lacing up your spine from your belly and you swallowed thickly.

“And I’m sorry I was… too embarrassed and stubborn to try coming by your office sooner,” he continued.

You stopped short, partially because you had reached the corner of the block and had to wait for the walk sign to light up, and partially because you wanted to look up at him again without tripping.

“So, what changed your mind?” you asked, arching a slender eyebrow.

Joel cleared his throat as he looked down at his boots for a moment and then back up at you. “Well, Sarah and Tommy," he admitted. "I was told… I guess I haven't been the best company since then. 'Grumpy old man,' I believe, were my daughter's exact words."

A snorted laugh escaped you and you quickly turned to cross the street as the walk sign lit up.

He trotted after you and then fell into step beside you again. "Yeah…" he said, somehow drawing the word out into multiple syllables and sounding a little amused, too. "So, I had to at least try to fix it."

You fell silent then, licking your lips in thought before you sniffed at the flowers again.

To his credit, Joel fell silent too and didn't try to push for an answer.

Finally, you stopped at your car and, after tucking papers under your arm, you glanced at him before you focused on digging your keys out of your purse. "Well, I'm busy this weekend…"

Out of the corner of your eye you could see his spine straighten, even as his shoulders dropped a little in disappointment.

You let that linger for a moment until you found your keys and opened the car door. Then, you paused and lifted your eyes up to his face, finding him watching you with a serious expression.

After a second, you let a smirk pull up at your mouth and you arched an eyebrow at him again. "...but if I give you my number one more time, and my address, will you pick me up next Friday night? Say eight o'clock?"

There's a moment of uncertainty, and then a smile appeared on his face. "I swear, I'll be there with bells on, Darlin'."

A snicker passed your lips as those butterflies started up again in your stomach. Then you gave him a playful glare, pointing a finger at his face over the door of your car. "Better make it good, Miller."

That smile turned into a full grin with a sharp nod.

"Yes, ma'am."

my initial thoughts/observations on chapter 3/deep sleep

this is gonna be a long post. and i mean really long. !!SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT!!

opening thoughts

so, after a long and deserved wait, chapter 3 has finally released. i was very excited, and i wasn't disappointed. this one still follows the formula of gameplay chaper 2 established, but is far longer and far more scary.

as much as i enjoyed chapter 2, it was not scary at all. the only tense moments were during the games, and even then its not scary scary. they failed to build up that atmosphere of dread that a lot of horror games strive to have. chapter 3 delivered. home sweet home in particular, and the red gas hallucination scenes were scary. i still have a quarrel with poppy over their scripted scares, but this chapter was much better about that than chapter 2.

this chapter has a much different, darker vibe than chapter 2, and im glad. i hope they keep going in this direction, and i suspect they will, especially with the morbid story they want to tell with this game.

i was glad we also got to see the majority of the playcare, even if im a bit bummed out that we didn't get to go in the toystore. the playcare itself is a really good environment, it looks cozy but its also so obviously fake, reminding me of those little miniature towns in trainsets. I did not expect it to be inside a dome. my favourite area in the whole chapter had to be the playhouse.

the new hands were also a great addition, and made the puzzles much more fun and varied. changing up the mechanics like that was a great idea to keep people from getting bored of the same puzzle and gameplay every single time.

the school section was fun. miss delight was kept a secret and that was the best choice, because she was a good surprise. the weeping angel chase sequence is great, if a bit complicated. still, its nice to have an actual active threat.

we got a lot of answers in this chapter, including specifics on what the hour of joy was. it seems that the game is being much more open about its dark lore, and im happy about that. im tired of games being theory bait in the sense they make the story next to impossible to figure out to bait theorists. i just want to understand whats going on.

criticisms.

one thing ive always had an issue with about poppy is the scripted scares. in some places its ok, like the huggy tv scene. but i wish there was more of an active, ambient threat. like in the playhouse for example, having to use the flare gun to keep them away. part of the scare is knowing something is out to get you. it helps build up tension and fear.

on that topic, catnap is definitely underutilized, as are the other smiling critters. catnap is good when he shows up, hes got a great design and im really glad they kept him mostly silent. but i wish he showed up more. tying this point to the above one, it would've been cool if he was lurking around in home sweet home. it would be the same way he does in the office towards the end of the game, and you have to fend him off in a similar manner.

the smiling critters in general are underutilized. dogday only appears for a short amount of time, and while his appearance is very good, i wish we got more. we didn't even get to see what the other bigger body critters looked like, or even have them mentioned other than once or twice.

they could have been a sort of resistance group against catnap, or even have been additional threats. picky piggy is a cannibal and craftycorn wants to paint with your blood. something could've been done with that. they couldve even taken the role that ollie filled. though i think ollie is probably important so probably not.

i didnt like the catnap boss fight. i dont know, it just felt weird. i also didn't like the weird nightmare form he transformed into. i much prefer him in his normal state, hes creepy enough as is.

last critique. kissy died. thats it, thats the complaint. look we've done this before in batim when they killed boris. we're gonna have to wait until chapter 4 comes to see if shes alive or not and shes likely gonna be dead in some horrific violent way. this is more of a petty thing than anything but im still sad about it.

deep sleep

so, the ost for the game isn't out yet [once it is i might post about it if i notice anything interesting]

but one thing i did notice is the main [possibly] leitmotif is actually a song from all the way back in chapter 1, titled deep sleep, which likely not a coincidence. i dont know if they had this planned all along, or decided later, but its cool either way.

you can hear it here when you enter the playcare for the first time, and in the menu theme [at the very end before it cuts off]. im unsure when else it plays but it probably does play elsewhere, similar to how the thousand year melody is also a common leitmotif

lots of death [and huggys death]

so, huggy is confirmed dead, by poppys word. im kind of sad about that. i think it wouldve been cool if he had come back, covered in blood and all messed up from his fall, hungry for revenge. at first he just wanted to eat you but now its personal.

but alas we can't always have what we want. PJ is also possibly dead, but im not sure. its confirmed that he doesnt die in chapter 2, as mommy doesn't kill him like she does bunzo and the wuggies. but in chapter 3, it looks like PJ is on catnaps shrine. but until hes confirmed dead im holding out on saying he is. it also seems like huggy is haunting the player, in a way. he appears in their nightmare hallucination, and then again as a cutout later almost tauntingly.

poppy is right, we have killed a LOT of people. we killed huggy, mommy, miss delight, and helped kill catnap. we indirectly caused bunzo and the wuggies to die [mommy killed them, but if we hadn't won the game she would not have done that, so we are involved regardless]. and now, we have to kill the prototype. i did not expect this much death in this chapter, but i enjoyed it.

catnap

out of all the main antagonists, catnap is by far my favorite. in the long wait leading up to chapter 3, the anticipation to his reveal was a lot of fun. theorizing with other fans, making fan interpretations of what he would look like. originally i thought he would be a bat

his actual design is fantastic. i didnt expect him to be so skinny, but it really works in his favor. him being on all fours also sets him apart from the other antagonists. i wont go into detail about his design here

his actual character is really good and is what makes him my favorite. those who followed the arg that led up to chapter 3 know catnaps full story, about how the prototype saved his life. im not gonna talk about that here because im gonna talk about that and his death in a different post. but catnaps religious devotion to the prototype makes him really interesting. hes so obsessed with him he builds shrines, and is even willing to kill all the other smiling critters for being heretics the choice to keep him mostly silent also really elevates his character. i think it wouldve been much different were he talkative like mommy long legs.

i do think he was underutilized though, especially with how much he was teased

prototype

i was kind of hoping to see at least a little bit more of the prototype's body, but we got a voice reveal so thats good enough. the prototype is a very interesting character, and im really excited to see what he looks like in the future. he must be huge, if he took catnaps body to presumably use on himself. the prototype interests me, because im trying to figure out what his deal is. poppy seems to think hes pure evil, but we never actually see him being evil. the only truly evil thing we know he has done is enact the hour of joy. does he kill other toys all the time? what else does he do thats so evil? we dont really know yet i guess he saved theodores life and sacrificed his freedom for it. right now he is morally grey. he also killed catnap, but im not sure why he did that. was it a mercy kill? did he simply not tolerate that failure? its hard to tell with a silent scene.

either way, the prototype intrigues me. some people think he is elliot ludwig, but i dont think so. i think he will just be nobody in particular, ideally. hes good enough on his own as a character

elliot ludwig and ollie

during the hallucination sequence in the home sweet home, its said that they found the body of a young boy in an upstairs room in elliot ludwig's house, a body which was missing organs and bones. this was after ludwig had died, and playtime co seems to want to fight the allegations. so either ludwig killed that kid or someone was framing him. either way, its not looking good for him. its been speculated for a long time whether or not elliot ludwig knew about the sinister happenings at playtime co, or if it happened after his death and leith pierre took over. this might be our answer. now whos body was that? so, i have a weird hypothesis. its said in his backstory that elliot had someone die in his family, which caused him and his wife to split. people first speculated this was his daughter, who became poppy. i think maybe, with this revelation, it was a son. and maybe, like the poppy theory, that son became something else. maybe hes ollie. maybe hes the prototype. who knows. it would explain why the body was there, and parts were missing. maybe those parts were used to make a bigger body. it has a lot of holes, but thats why its a hypothesis

on the topic of ollie, who are they? i definitely think they're a toy, possibly a bigger body, which is why they're hiding their appearance from us. theres also no way its been 10 years and theres still kids here. they either would have died or grown up by now. i dont completely trust them, or poppy for that matter. people have theorized ollie might be the prototype, since the prototype can change his voice to sound like a variety of things. heres my crack theory, which i know is not true but it would be funny: ollie is boxy boo. listen. ok. the phone is first seen in project playtime, which is boxy boo's debut game, and reveals all his lore, like how he was the first bigger body created. the phone also resembles him in appearance. obviously this probably isnt true but its funny to consider.

speaking of him, im really glad boxy boo was in this chapter. i hope he appears physically in the next one, because i like him a lot. make fun of the name all you want but hes my special guy.

kissy and poppy

kissy is my favorite character so im very glad she was here. though i wish she was there a bit more, beggars cant be choosers. im also glad poppy got more spotlight. when she first appeared in chapter 2, she just felt like circus baby 2.0. but chapter 3 expands on her character a lot more and makes her feel more unique and alive, and like an actual character. which im glad for because shes the namesake of the game and is obviously very important she hates the prototype because he locked her in that case, and killed all those people. but obviously she cant kill him herself, shes so small. so we have to do it. ill be honest, i still dont completely trust her. like the prototype doesnt seem THAT evil to me. we havent seen him do a lot of things. imagine if theres a huge plottwist at the end where poppy is actually evil and the prototype is good. no way thats gonna happen but whatever.

the players identity

before chapter 3 released i thought the player was maybe a past orphan who worked at the factory later in life only to return years later to end things. people theorize that they're the head of innovation. now it just seems to make sense that they're rich. i mean why would we be constantly hearing about this guy who seemingly is just another employee. the player also seems to have done bad things, or at least known about them, because the game constantly references their guilty conscience.

chapter 4

its quite possible chapter 4 will be the last chapter. poppy said that catnap was the final obstacle the prototype had set out before us. and now we have the clear goal of killing the prototype.

in the next chapter, we will probably go down to the labs mentioned time and time again, and uncover the final secrets. as we go deeper down and progress through each chapter, things become more grim and dark. this will probably be the darkest chapter yet. if we go down to the lab, with the goal to finally kill the prototype, we are going to be in his domain, his kingdom. we will probably see new monsters, maybe even scrapped toys like daisy.

anyways i will make smaller posts for other stuff like catnaps death, and other things i find deserve their own posts. thanks for reading if you have made it this far

His porsoline hart broken into pieces as tears fell down his eye's as he watched his bestfriend,crush fall for the chavalry captain of the knight's of fovonius.

He slowly starts to drown himself with research. distanceing himself from his bestfriend to not break his heart even more and to let his ex bestfriend,crush live "hapily" without him interferring with there life .

Not until a traveler arrived with a little pixie floating right beside her came into the Picture. He noticed something strange about the chivalry captain going out more with the traveler,

He started to get suspicious of the two but desided not to but into the chivalry captain's busineses.

Days past "its time to go and see what temeus has discovered and whats bought back by the adventure's guild" he muttered

As he walk away from the Fovonius Headquarters.

Rain was all he can see "hm the rain is going down heavy better hurry"

Going down the steps people pileing up in the middle of town Albedo seem's confused about why people are out side in a middle of a down pour, Confeused he went to the stand where Timeus was.

Walking up to Timeus "Timeus whats with the croud?" "Oh mr Albedo! Its about

Y/N ..." Timeus answered but murmuring the last part "oh ok ... ill go cheack at the guild they said the discoverd new secipe's from 2000 years ago" albedo hesitated at the first part "Ok mr Albedo"

The Forbidden Forest is originally called the Cursed Forest. The Witch Mother before Mother Evanora decided to change the name to keep the hunters and seekers of the forest out. It was known to be a place where Dark Magic is strongest. Any spells or curses cast in here are stronger and can last for a lifetime. Magic wielders look for this place to perform rituals that can be considered dangerous or too powerful. Only the Crones and Mothers know of its history and dangers which is why they are the only ones allowed to bypass the protection spell keeping people out of the woods.

You grew up only knowing that the woods are not a place to visit, especially when your father lost his life defending it from the seekers. Upon your ascension and knowing its true story, protecting the forest and the people from it is a duty you have accepted.

Together with the Mothers, you roam the Forbidden Forest to search for an intruder. They were notified of a break in the protection spell.

“It is important to find them but never cast a spell you do not understand,” the Witch Mother reminded everyone of you.

The forest was quiet, save for the occasional blowing of the wind or animal noises. It was too quiet but you paid no attention to it. You continue to walk when you catch a glimpse of an all-too-familiar figure.

For Agatha however, the forest was anything but quiet. She can hear the thrum of magic fill the air. It feels electrifying every time it grazes her skin, getting stronger as she goes deeper into the woods. She does not have any idea what’s waiting for her but she continues exploring, excitement overpowering rationality.

The young witch was practicing her transfiguration earlier that day when the forest caught her eye. For weeks, it has been pulling her in. She tried every day to turn away and deny her mind the secrets the woods may possess. Today is not that day.

Knowledge is indeed her greatest strength and weakness.

“It’s forbidden for a reason, Agatha.” Her mother sternly replies every time she asks about the restricted place.

Flashes of different conversations earning the same answer with her Mother appear in her mind. Agatha shook her head at the image. She’s inquisitive, there’s no fault to that. The young witch insists that what she’s doing is not wrong nor a violation of their rules. This opportunity was presented to her.

She did not break the protection spell, it opened for her.

She did not seek this power, it called her.

She did not break any rules, it bent for her.

Once she focused on the force pulling her into the forest, it latched on to her. She noticed how a part of the barrier separating the forest and their village was wide open. It feels like someone paved the way for her; all she has to do is travel down it.

Agatha was so close to the heart of the woods when she sensed someone coming, She turned on her invisibility charm, preparing to attack. The figure, however, was nonthreatening. It felt comforting even. A small smile spread across the witch’s face. She knows who this is.

The figure stopped a couple of steps away from Agatha, assessing the situation. Donning the coveted Witch’s Cloak, the person remained unfazed by the stillness around her. The young witch can see a smirk forming on the lips of the person under the hood.

“Try as you might, darling, I know you’re here,” you announced. You can see the remnants of Agatha’s last performed magic. Invisibility. Clever. The streaks of blue hang in the air, slowly fading. It’s still a mystery to you how such a powerful witch can be so careless with her footprint.

Agatha watched as you removed the hood covering your face. God, she missed that face. You have been out with the Mothers these past few days. She was told you were visiting the next village, introducing yourself to other witches. She took her time taking in your presence.

Your voice, commanding yet caring.

Your witchcraft, precise and disciplined.

Your heart.

Well, there are not enough praises to sing about how big your heart is. Agatha couldn’t help but smile at how the playful, young [Y/N] grew up to be the responsible, charming Mother that stood in front of her. Always looking out for her. Always there for her. Slowly, a warm sensation spreads across her chest. Just the mere idea of you takes her breath away.

Before the Witch Mother’s daughter can make sense of what she’s feeling, you have reversed the invisibility spell and exposed her position.

“[Y/N],” Agatha whispered your name cheekily.

“Agatha,” your voice filled with concern, “you shouldn’t really be playing around here, dear.”

The witch dramatically gasped. “The village was getting too small for me,” she replies, feigning innocence.

You let out a large sigh before taking a step closer to your friend. “Well, the village will have to do,” you saw her pout before continuing, “because you need to go home.”

“[Y/n], can’t you feel it?” Agatha’s baby blue eyes widened in excitement. “This place is full of magic and it’s calling me.” Her forefinger pointed to herself.

You tried to hide how your breath hitched at her statement. Maybe you shouldn’t have left. Or maybe you should have come home sooner. You knew weeks ago how this place is affecting your friend. Now, Agatha had a taste of what the woods can give her. It’s only a matter of time before she comes back here and takes it for herself. You’re losing her.

She was never yours.

You try to calm the beating of your heart and the voice in your head. She’s still Agatha. She will still listen.

“The Mothers are here and they wouldn’t be happy to see you.” You can see her body tense a little bit but was replaced by a playful smirk across her face.

She stepped closer to you while asking,” you’re not going to tell on me, are you?” The beating in your chest just sped up more, if that is even possible. This woman will be the death of you. You swallowed the lump forming on your throat before you replied, “you know I won’t.”

Agatha offered you a big smile. There is nothing more attractive to her than someone having her back. For you though, nothing is more attractive than her.

Her eyes looked at your face and the accessory on your neck.”That’s a really nice necklace you got there.” You instinctively touched the pendant - a sapphire with a crescent moon and waves carved on it. Suddenly, every thought of Agatha on your head felt wrong.

“Thank you,” a weak smile on your face. “It was a gift.”

“By whom?” Your eyes, now unable to look at hers, tried to focus elsewhere when you heard steps coming close to your position.

Before the Witch Princess can ask further, you immediately cast a concealment spell around the both of you.

“You need to go,” you say more like a command. She was about to reply when you cut her off. “It’s forbidden for a reason, Agatha.”

Agatha felt her jaw tense hearing those words out of you. She can’t believe this. The longer you become a Mother, the more you become like her mother. She shook her head before replying.

“Well, I don’t want to.” her voice firm and devoid of any playfulness it used to carry, “besides, they’re just asking us to gather by sundown for this announcement.”

The Maiden noticed how uneasy you became. Your hands started fidgeting. You can’t even look at her. She asks, “do you know what it is?” as curiosity got the best of her.

You took a deep breath before nodding your head. “They’re announcing a wedding.”

She scoffed at the notion. “Why would they? There’s no one in the village who’s beth-”

Before she can finish the sentence, Agatha’s gaze landed once again on the necklace on your being. A gifted necklace with a pendant that signifies the essence of its wearer. No. No, it can’t be.

With the witch in front of you trailing off, you took that as a sign to fill in the blanks. You knew this moment would come, you just didn’t think it would unravel this way. Feeling the weight of your necklace against your chest, you decided it’s better for her to hear it from you.

“I’m getting married.”

The bond chpt. 1

Hi this is the first chaper of my lee felix soulmate au if it does good i’ll post a new one but its really just for fun!

I wake up to singing and see my family surrounding me. It was my 18th birthday, a big day. Let me explain, whenever someone turns 18 in this world they have a name appear on their wrist, the name of their soulmate. It'll appear sometime today and once it does it does not go away until you find them and touch them. I blow out the candles on the cake my mom made and wish for me to find my soulmate easily. I hug everyone and they all leave letting me get dressed for school. As I'm showering I notice some letters starting to appear on my wrist. Lee. So my soulmate is a lee. I sigh knowing the rest could take all day. I finish in the shower slipping on some black jean shorts, a white cropped tee, a black cap with a rose on it and some white sneakers. I go ahead and leave for college where I major in dance. I've always loved dancing. It was something I found so freeing. I get to be myself without worrying about what others think. It wasn't just dance, though that was my main passion, I loved everything about music. The fact that there are so many different styles of music yet they're all connected through emotion just gives me goosebumps.

I walked the whole way to school saying hi to the shop owners starting to open shops. I walked into the studio where I was spending the day choreographing my last solo of the year. It was an assignment for my class. Luckily this was my last year of school. I don't think I could handle being in this place. Don't get me wrong i love this school but it brings back memories i don't want to be brought up. The assignment was to choreograph a dance to a song that was near to your heart. I chose a song called skinny love by birdy. My mom always sings it to me when I'm crying and it always cheers me up. I warm up and start the choreo process which, for me at least, is to just record me free styling a couple times then making changes to the one I like the best. I do this five times and while I get water I look back at the recordings. I liked the third take the best and decided to fix it. I start going through my revision process and soon it's the next person's turn in the studio. I recorded my entire time so i can watch and make sure i remember it. I leave and head to the library to study for other classes. I went through the whole day without even thinking of looking at my wrist as I walked back and picked up some groceries. I caught a glimpse and saw the namee had finished. Lee Yongbok. Okay well there is a start. I get some of the groceries that I know we’re out of and head the rest of the way home.

“Eomma! I'm home!” i say and see her walk up to me. “How did practice go?” she asks me, taking the groceries to put them away. “It was good, I have a rough idea of what I want to do for the dance but I barely started part two of my process. I need a shower though.” I say and she lets me leave to shower. I take a quick shower changing into my favorite hoodie and some leggings. I go to my room and plop down on my bed. I grab my phone and respond to all of the happy birthday wishes. Soon I found myself looking up the name Lee Yongbok. To my surprise something pops up. A 19 year old kpop idol from australia. I'm utterly shocked. What if that's my soulmate? I mean I'm not complaining he's handsome. I do more research and find out his group recently debuted last year. I also find they just had a comeback. Me being a curious person checks to see if they're coming to busan and to my surprise they are. Before I think about getting tickets I check out their music and I'm thoroughly surprised to find I like it alot. Whoever has that deep voice….. It's so smooth. It kind of reminds me of how I can go pretty deep with my voice when I want to.

I go downstairs and find my eomma cooking. “Eomma i have a question, can i go to a concert on saturday? I think my soulmate is in the group that's performing and I have to find out. Please.” I beg and she smiles. “Of course you can go Nabi. just be safe okay?” I nod and smile. “Of course eomma! Thank you!” I hugged her and ran upstairs. I get a seat in the very front and get a ticket for the fan sign. I do more research and memorize all the guy’s faces and lyrics. I also purchased a lightstick and an album that should get here tomorrow. I go and leave to get every member a gift. For chan i got him a wolf plushie, hyunjin gets a llama, seungmin a puppy, han a squirrel cause they all call him a squirrel, changbin gets a bunny, minho gets a penguin, and felix a cat. I come home and eat the delicious birthday dinner my eomma made for me. We ate the cake earlier and just spent quality family time. Even my older brother came home for today.

After a while it's time to head to bed. I stay up for a little while thinking about felix. What if he is my soulmate? What would happen? Most idols aren't allowed to date so if we were the romantic type of soulmate what would happen? I sigh, shaking the thoughts from my head. Lets just see where this goes first.

It's finally saturday and i have a couple of hours before the concert. I take a shower and get dressed. I wear a red tee-shirt and black jean shorts. I added the necklace my brother got me yesterday and a watch I had for forever. I put waves in my hair then add a simple rose flower crown. I head downstairs and have a small breakfast. I put my white low top converse on and head to the car my appa bought me. I start driving to the venu listening to their music. I park and make sure I have everything. I get out of the car and head to the line for people with floor seats. I wait patiently for my turn to come. When it does, the people check my bag, and make sure I'm not carrying a weapon. I get inside the venue and buy a water bottle drinking some and finding my seat. I go and head to the front of the stage towards the right side of my section. I talk with the people next to me until the lights go down.

Endless cycle

A/N :This is the first chapter of my story endless cycle. It can also be found on wattpad. I don't really know how to use tumblr yet but it should get better as I go on.

"I think we should break up Aryia. This isn't working for either of us, we're both too busy." The soft words tumbled out of my mouth before I could stop myself. I had been putting if off for days in fear of hurting him. But deep down I knew it was worse to pretend everything was going as well as he thought.

On the off chance we saw each other I pretended I was happy, though I was only exhausted. Jumping between this practice and that practice only made me want to go home and sleep the muscle aching away. I didn't have time to love myself, let alone another person. I knew I did love him, I'd never told him though. It was just a silent thought I had often. Which is what made this so hard.

His once smiling face shifted to a more complex expression, that I couldn't read.

"Are you playing a prank on me, there's no way you actually mean-"

He reached his hand out and dragged it down my arm, stopping when he reached my wrist and slipped his hand into mine.

I knew I should let go of him, or pull away. I was supposed to be breaking things off with him. Go my own way so I could pretend I didn't want us to work.

"It's not because I don't feel the spark between us. I mean. I want to stay with you but I don't want to distract you from school, or football and baseball.. Or your music, I know how hard your working already trying to balance everything, you shouldn't have to worry about time for me too. We're both always so exhausted that we can't see each other anyway."

I squeezed his hand a few times, hoping he would understand the silent message behind the gesture. The words I never trusted myself to say to him. I didn't want to outright tell him I love him, I felt it would be too cheesy and basic.

"We can make this work, I know we can just please. Give it a little while longer we can work out times to see each other!"

Aryias eyes met my own. He seemed desperate, like he was clinging to me to keep me from leaving. I wished we could magically work it out like he thought so we'd never have to feel like this.

I glanced down at our intertwined hands, my heart clenched. I was causing both of us so much pain.

With a soft sigh I stood on my tiptoes to give him my final parting. A soft kiss against his cheek.

"I'm so sorry Aryia. I wish we could. I've got to leave before I regret this. Please don't hate me." I mumbled softly before turning and walking away. Ignoring the calls of my name.

I felt warm, salty tears drip down my cheek as I walked toward the exit. I figured after school would be the best time to tell him so we'd have a few hours in between seeing each other at school.

Pulling my bag closer against my body I slipped through the door and started the short walk to my best friend's house. It was a rather chilly day, in the heart of autumn. I'd usually be admireing the sight of the yellow and red leaves. I wasn't worried about that this time. I knew she'd be home, I had spent almost ten minutes trying to find Aryia then another 5 breaking up with him. It was only a 7 minute walk, at a slow pace. Alyssa practically ran everywhere, without even trying to. She was tall, most of her body was legs which caused her to get places faster.

As I assumed, she was the one to open the door when I knocked. Within seconds of opening the door she had me inside and in a tight hug.

"He didn't take it well did he? I'm assuming you didn't either?" Alyssa was a rather quiet speaker, but her usually soothing tone set me off further. Choked sobs fell out of my mouth as we slowly fell to the floor. She held me tight against her body, comforting me, just by holding me and keeping me company.

At some point she called our other friend Payne. Once he got to her house he joined us on the floor, offering comforting words every once and a while.

We sat there for hours. Eventually I was able to tell them what happened with breaks of crying in the mix. I told them down to the details what happened, reliving it in the process.

They both knew I was going to end it with Aryia today. I told them everything especially if it was something big like this. And they told me everything too. We all understood each other and could comfort each other.

Which is why Payne and I slept at her house that night. We all need the time together. Payne had just recently had a breakup too. Alyssa on the other had had just gotten into a relationship but she wasn't sure it was going to last. And talking to them helped take my mind off the terrible pain running through my heart.

A little after two in the morning when I thought they were both asleep I quietly grabbed my phone. I regretted everything I had said to Aryia today. I missed everything about him already. The quick glances before he went to bat, the excitement in his face when I'd meet him before his games. Finding him in his studio when I'd sneak over to his house at night. Absolutely everything.

I had my phone open with his contact up, trying to figure out what to say when I felt a hand on my shoulder.

I jumped slightly when I saw Paynes sleepy looking face.

"Elle, come on, you said you wanted to move on, its for the better. Like you said."

My phone screen dimmed as it started to turn off.

" I know, I just miss him. I think I regret breaking it off. It was worth being tired all the time."

Payne hesitantly slipped my phone out of my hand and lightly tossed it across the room onto the other couch.

"Why don't you sleep on it, we can talk more in the morning. You haven't had a lot of sleep in a while."

With a slow nod of my head I slipped down under my blanket. It didn't take long for me to drift off to sleep.

Really this was actually Chapter 5, but it wasn’t until creating this post that I realized I effed up. So, this is now a deleted scene...apologies. Enjoy!

Deleted Scene

AKA Chapter 5

Jimin and Jungkook were going to be taking exams for the better part of the afternoon, so you found yourself quite bored after work. When you began craving coffee, more specifically coffee from Yoongi’s favorite cafe, you started to think some magnetic force was pulling you two together. Maybe the universe wanted you to forgive him for so easily pushing you away. After all that happened you couldn’t get him off your mind. You should be furious, but Yoongi could never stay on your bad side for long, he was too cute for that nonsense.

It didn’t take long to reach the cafe and you found yourself growing nervous as you entered. Making it a point not to look around, you fiddled with your keys as you walked toward the register where a smiling face was looking back at you.

“Welcome! What can I get started for you?” The tall barista said cheerfully. They were either very good at their job or naturally happy because it didn’t seem the slightest bit fake. You gave your order and name and sluggishly stepped towards the other side as you scanned the room carefully. Your heart skipped a beat and the butterflies in your stomach seemed to be fighting one another. You saw Yoongi in the back corner with his large headphones on, bobbing to what could only be one of his new mixes. This entire situation was quite strange to you. You’ve known Yoongi for nearly half your life and you were getting nervous at the sight of him. Your best friend was giving you butterflies. You realized you were staring when your name was called multiple times and you were drawn from your daydream.

“I wouldn’t disturb that one.” The barista warned as he gestured towards Yoongi. “He gets a little snippy when you interrupt his work.” You couldn’t help but laugh. You had been witness to those moments and even been on the wrong side of them from time to time.

You tried your luck anyway and slowly headed for the back corner where he sat behind a screen. He was concentrating as if his life depended on it. You sat down very carefully and his brows furrowed before he tore his eyes away from his computer screen to look at you. You gave him a shy smile and his features softened. He slipped his headphones off and smiled at you.

“Thought you didn’t like coffee.” He chuckled.

“I missed you.” You shrugged, glancing down at the hot beverage you hoped was covered up with enough sweetness to mask its taste. Yoongi laughed softly.

“I tried to call.”

“I know.” You can’t seem to meet his eyes even when you see him in your peripheral vision ducking his head trying to meet yours.

“You’re upset.” He states with a sigh.

“You pushed me away, Yoongi.” Your tone was sharp and, though you wanted it to be, you felt regret as soon as you heard it.

“I want you to be happy,______.” Now he was avoiding your gaze. “Jimin seems to make you happy.”

“You made me happy.” You blurt out and you can feel your cheeks burning as he looks up at you again. You clear your throat and look back down at your drink. When did things become so awkward?

“I never wanted to hold you back because of how I felt. I wanted you to be with who you wanted. Your first choice. That choice was never me.” Those words stung. You knew he didn’t mean to hurt you with them, but they felt like a blade to your heart.

“Fuck you, Yoongi. You don’t know what I wanted.” You grabbed your drink and left the table.

“You lasted longer than me.” The barista calls after you. Too upset to even spare him a glance you push through the door.

Your pace was so fast you were nearly running home. Taking a sip of your beverage, You grimaced and tossed it in the nearest trash can. You were fuming. You were wounded. You knew he was right.

You had been upset with Yoongi three times in your relationship. The first was when you were in college and he had his first serious girlfriend. You picked a fight with him over not spending enough time with you and told him she was ruining your friendship. He broke up with her not long after that. The second time was when Jimin informed you of their conversation weeks prior. The conversation that has lead you to your relationship with Jimin. Now, this time you were upset because he was right and it hurt you to think that you hurt him. Yoongi wasn’t your first choice, in fact you only seemed to act out whenever he wasn’t available.

You were more mixed up than ever. If you felt this way about Yoongi why didn’t you ever realize you had feelings? Why did you suppress them and go after every wrong choice possible? Jimin was the only person you ever had feelings for, besides Yoongi, that was a good guy, incredible really. Both of them were incredible. How are you supposed to handle this?

You found yourself walking around the park down the street from your apartment contemplating what your next move was going to be. You were dating Yoongi less than a month ago. There was some grand decision making happening behind your back and now your with the man you swore was the man of your dreams on more than one occasion. Guilt hit your heart when you realized you made that confession to Yoongi. This realization made anger rise within you.

Wanting to take your mind off the situation, you decide to call Jimin and take him to dinner. You went to grab your phone out of your pocket when you were immediately hit on the side of the head. There was a sharp pain followed by darkness. You were knocked to the ground unconscious. When you woke up you were met by bright fluorescent lights and an IV attached to your arm.

“There she is!” Jungkook‘s soothing voice breaks the silence. You lift your head to see him and Yoongi’s pacing came to a halt upon hearing Jungkook’s statement. “You really need to stop hitting your head.” He laughed as he reached your bedside.

“Thank goodness, what happened?” Yoongi was by your side as well, his hand slipped into yours.

“Not really sure. I feel kind of dizzy.”

“Baby, are you okay?” Jimin says as he enters the room. But before you can answer He blurts out, “Let met get the doctor!” Rushing out of the room he flags down your nurse. She comes to check on you and informs you that you have a concussion. The doctor enters the room moments after.

“How are you feeling?” The tall dark haired man asks as he places a hand on your ankle with what seemed practiced concern.

“I’m a little dizzy and my head hurts when I lift it.”

“Okay, these are normal symptoms to have with a concussion, but your scans came back all clear. The symptoms can last for a few weeks so don’t be alarmed if your having dizziness and headaches. If your symptoms worsen then you can come back to the emergency room. Other wise, rest for the next couple of days. I’ll have your nurse get you discharged.”

“What happened, jagiya?” Jimin sat on the bed and took your free hand. Yoongi didn’t let go of the other.

“I was in the park walking around and then I was here.” You chuckle and shrug. “I honestly don’t know what happened. I felt a sharp pain I guess that’s all I really remember.”

“When we got here the nurse said the couple that brought you in told her you were mugged.” Yoongi rubs the back of his neck and avoids eye contact. You knew it bothered him because he always had issues with emotional situations.

“It’s a good thing they were there to help!” Jungkook tried to look on the bright side.

“Baby, don’t go wandering around at night by yourself okay?” Jimin rubs his thumb over the back of your hand.

“It wasn’t at night.” You clearly remember it being light out.

“When she left me it was still light.” Yoongi mumbles.

The guys begin to talk amongst themselves about how thankful they should be that nothing else happened to you. Yoongi pointed out that the small bag you were carrying was no where to be found. The nurse came in to go over your discharge instructions before letting you go. Yoongi insisted that you stay at his apartment.

“Noona, I think that’s a good idea too.” Jungkook said when you protested.

“The doctor did say you would be fine, jagi, but I agree with Yoongi and JK. I think we would all feel better if you had someone watching over you.” Jimin kissed your cheek and gave you his puppy dog eyes. Those eyes were incredibly hard to resist.

“Don't.” You whined as you stared into his eyes. He bat his eyelashes and gave you a small pout. You answered him with a pout and he smiled and kissed you softly on the lips.

“Good.” He stated simply. He pulled you into him, gently placing your head on his chest and kissing the top of your head. They agreed that you and Jungkook would go to Yoongi’s apartment while Jimin and Yoongi went to grab necessities at your place.

The ride to your apartment was a quiet one. Jimin and Yoongi were still trying to process how something like this happened to you. It was broad daylight and in the middle of a public place, but somehow you were caught in the middle of someone’s stupidity.

“I didn’t want to show it, but that really scared me.” Jimin says softly as they enter your apartment.

Yoongi looks over at Jimin, taking in the sincerity of that statement, “Me too.”

“Really? I thought I was the only one freaking out! Everyone was so calm. And the doctor acted like it was nothing!” Jimin’s voice gave away how upset he was over this. Yoongi pressed his lips together and nodded.

“These sort of things happen to me not, ______.” Yoongi shook his head.

Jimin cocked his head, “you’ve been mugged?” His eyes became wide. Yoongi nodded and shrugged.

“It’s happened a couple of times. I found out the first one was set up by someone who was trying to steal my mixes. The second time I got my backpack with my lap top in it stolen.”

“Whoa.” Jimin shivered. “I can’t imagine going through that.”

“Not fun.” Yoongi let out a chuckle as he grabbed a backpack. Jimin folded some clothes and neatly placed them in the bag. Yoongi headed for the bathroom to gather other necessities.

“I never thanked you.” Jimin said as he continued to fill the backpack carefully.

“For What?” Yoongi’s voice echoed in the bathroom.

“Giving me a chance with her.”

“It was that or a bring you into our relationship. I just didn’t think she would want that.” Yoongi walks out of the bathroom with his arms full.

“You’re serious?” Jimin drops the bag and stares at Yoongi who nods. Jimin takes a deep breath and contemplates it in all seriousness. “I don’t think I would’ve minded that.”

You walked arm-in-arm with Loki back to the car, occasionally glancing at the ring on your finger, not quite believing it was there after all of these years. When you were young, you’d expected it to happen eventually, but after you were exiled, you gave up hope of ever seeing Loki again.

“Unfortunately, we must stop by the living room before we can go upstairs,” Loki told you when he parked the car back in the garage at the tower. “The team insisted on seeing for themselves that you were returned home safely,” he added grumpily as he came around the car to your car door. You laughed as you took his hand and let him help you from the car.

“Don’t be offended, love. They just want to make sure we’re home safely,” you told him warmly, laying your hand on his arm to walk with him to the elevator.

“They wished to make sure you were home,” he corrected.

You shrugged. “Midgardians are weird.” He finally relaxed and inclined his head about that one. “Surely Thor wants to make sure we’re both home,” you suggested. You knew Thor worried about Loki, even in your care. He didn’t answer that, so you knew you were right.

“How was your evening?” Thor asked pleasantly when you stepped off the elevator.

“Might as well show the oaf, Kyrie-love,” Loki told you warmly. Damn Trickster had told his brother what he was up to tonight.

“You are an incorrigible showoff,” you told him, but softened your words by kissing his cheek. He smirked in reply, and didn’t deny it. You stepped over to Thor and held out your left hand so he could see the ring.

“Congratulations, Lady Valkyrie!” Thor boomed. “Finally figured out why you had that ring in your trinket box for 900 years, huh, Brother?” Thor teased.

“He bothered you about it?” you asked, surprised.

“I caught him pondering the ring one day and teased him about his mystery lady,” Thor replied.

“Wait!? You’re engaged?” Nat demanded, jumping to her feet and leaping over Clint to come see the ring. The rest of the team came around too and carefully oohed over the shiny, careful not to touch your skin. “You have an excellent eye for jewelry, Loki,” Nat complimented his choice. He looked surprised for a moment to be addressed directly, but he inclined his head, accepting the compliment for what it was.

“Loki acquired that ring over 900 years ago, before Kyrie was sent to Midgard,” Thor explained to the others. You stepped back and went back from the crowd of the others and went back to Loki. He wrapped and arm around you and kissed your temple, reassuring. The others wouldn’t touch you. They knew better.

There were toasts and more congratulations before you were finally able to escape upstairs with Loki. His arm was around you as you walked down the hall to your rooms. You saw his hesitation, he wanted to invite you to stay with him, at least for awhile, to enjoy the rest of your evening, but he obviously didn’t want to push either. You summoned a bottle of the Asgardian mead and two wine glasses. “Nightcap?” you asked a little shyly, not entirely sure of your welcome.

He took a step toward his room automatically. His rooms had always been the shared space over the years. “That sounds like an excellent idea, darling,” he told you warmly and opened his bedroom door for you. You stepped past him, scanning the room automatically for threats as you stepped through his shields over the threshold. You kicked off your heels next to the door and settled on his bed, pouring mead into the wine glasses. You watched as he stripped off his suit jacket, loosened his tie, and carefully rolled up his shirt sleeves. You floated one of the wine glasses over to him.

You sat on his bed, chatting for a few glasses of mead. “Mind if I find something more comfortable to wear?” you asked, not feeling like using magic to change right now.

He gestured to his dresser. “Help yourself.” You rescued one of his tunics from the dresser and with your back to him, carefully slipped off your dress and bra. You knew his eyes were on you as you slipped his tunic over your head. It came down to your thighs, so was perfectly acceptable for this. When you turned back to the bed, he was lounging in nothing but pajama pants. Nothing but pajama pants. He had liked what he saw too…

You smiled and joined him, the mead forgotten as you curled into his arms to kiss him. He welcomed you with open arms. The kisses started light, but quickly grew in heat as your lips parted, your tongue danced with his. You shifted, straddling his lap, your fingers wound in his hair and you slowly kissed your way down his neck to the spot where it met his shoulder and he moaned in pleasure. You could feel him hard under you, through the loose material of his pajama pants.

You sucked gently on the spot on his neck, fingers still wound in his hair, tugging ever, ever so gently. He gasped and moaned in pleasure, his hands sliding down your back to cup your ass. You leaned up to kiss him properly again.

He paused before things went too far. “Kyrie-love, just because we got engaged tonight doesn’t mean that I expect-” he started, but stumbled for what he was trying to stay. “I love you dearly, but we don’t have to do this tonight. We have all of eternity, there’s no rush. I know you haven’t…” he hesitated again, not wanting to push. You weren’t surprised he had indulged over the centuries, nor did you fault him for it. You appreciated that he wanted to make sure you were comfortable with the pace. He knew you hadn’t kissed in over 900 years. Obviously you hadn’t done anything else with the mortals either, but he didn’t know…

“That…isn’t an issue,” you finally replied. You had to be careful of what you said. You were under orders after all. He raised an eyebrow, not expecting that response. You couldn’t lie to him. Damn god of lies. You sighed heavily and climbed off his lap to sit next to him. The mood was broken and this conversation needed to happen now. He needed to know. He sat up again to look at you, sensing the heavy conversation. “I have… before. Once, but still…” you finally added since he wouldn’t stop giving you that look that demanded an explanation.

He growled, his eyes narrowing, coming to the wrong conclusion, as his anger flared. “Who? Who do I need to kill for touching you?” he growled. You saw the assumption that it was against your will.

You shook your head. “It wasn’t like that,” you reassured him quickly.

He blinked quickly, confused. “But… I gave you your first kiss…” he said softly, hurt, assuming more wrong assumptions, but you let him talk. He had to tease out enough of the story for himself before you could help him. You had orders. “There were no competitors in the city of the Valkyries and we were together from the moment you returned home…” his voice was hurt. “I would understand if in the years were were apart…” You shook your head. “While we were together?” he demanded, angrily, his rage flaring. “Who?” he snarled. “Why would you do that?” he growled, but with tears in his eyes.

“I swear I didn’t betray you. I would rather die than betray you, but I’ve been forbidden to tell you what happened,” you told him softly, just as frustrated, tears in your eyes. He growled.

“Who could possibly-?” he started.

“Your Mother,” you told him firmly. “She pulled rank and gave me the order all of those years ago, forbidding me to tell you, reforbid it when I became a full Valkyrie, and it’s still binding today,” you snarled, frustrated and angry at Frigga for the first time that you could remember. You held out your wrist to him, so he could see the tattoo there. “If you want answers, override the order,” you reminded him. He was the only one who could override the order. You were bound to his service. He hated pulling rank more than anything, but…

He took your wrist more roughly than truly necessary and lifted it so his lips touched the sigil on your arm. “Tell me what the Queen forbade you to divulge. Your prince demands it,” he ordered, his voice a growl. You could hear his unspoken words, he would decide if you got to keep the ring he had given you when he heard your tale.

“It was a couple months before we turned a hundred, before I left for the trials,” you started and nearly sighed in relief that it had worked and you were free to finally tell him. He sat and listened to you speak, impassively. “Lady Hilde wouldn’t stop flirting with you, insisting you were going to be hers. She wanted the conquest of one of the princes and you were too polite back then to deny her firmly enough to leave you alone. I stopped her when I was around, since she made you uncomfortable, but I couldn’t be with you every moment. She forced a love potion on you at a feast one evening, spiking your drink. She made the mistake of bragging about it too loudly to a couple of the other court ladies within my hearing. I thoroughly kicked her ass for it, since I couldn’t legally do anything more at the time, threw you over my shoulder, and dragged you both to our mothers.

My Lady Mother took care of Lady Hilde. She is well and truly dead, I’m sure. Mother could take care of her even though I couldn’t at the time. I was too late to save you from the effects. Even your mother couldn’t do anything. The only thing we could do was let the potion wear off on its own. You were a mess, love,” you didn’t have the words to describe the state he had been in. “That potion was strong and… love potions never truly work as expected. They’re finicky at best. The love part faded almost immediately, if it had ever worked at all, but it left…” you hesitated.

“Lust,” he supplied softly. You nodded.

“Lust and so much rage. You were suffering. It was all I could do to keep you from slaughtering everyone in the palace, though somehow you could stand my presence. I don’t know who sent her, I never asked. I never wanted to know. But someone thought one of the… pleasure women… might give you some relief, but you nearly splattered the walls with her blood for the insult on your honor at the suggestion. I only just got her out of the room with her life, by literally throwing her bodily from your room. I held you while you sobbed and whimpered at what that shit did to your body and mind,” you shuddered at the memory. He had been in such an awful state.

“You…” he said softly, haunted by memories he didn’t even have, he couldn’t ask the question that he wanted to. He wanted to ask if you’d given him the sex the potion had demanded.

You nodded, answering his unasked question. You’d done your duty to your prince, but not for that, but because you loved him and it was the only thing that would help, that would end the torture sooner. “I gave you what comfort and relief I could,” you didn’t need to go into details on that. He wouldn’t want to know. “My…assistance… helped and after three days straight of hell and suffering, you could finally sleep and slept the rest of that stupid love potion off. We got through that mess together, but when you finally came out of it completely, you didn’t remember a thing. Knowing the state you’d been in, your mother thought it best it stayed that way and ordered me to never tell you about the love potion incident. There are very, very few at the court who even know about it,”

He pulled you into his arms, looking horrified. “I’m sorry I doubted you. I can’t believe you did that for me…” he said softly. “I can’t- I still don’t remember-”

“Do you want to really know?” you asked him.

He hesitated, but finally nodded. “I need to know,” you sat up again, closed your eyes, took a breath, organizing your thoughts, organizing the memories so he would see what he was looking for. You nodded and his fingertips touched your temples. He was in your mind a moment later, a polite visitor, only viewing the memories that were offered. Unfortunately, you both had to relive that hell in the viewing.

You held him while he shuddered at the memories,stroking his hair, rubbing his back. You presumed that viewing your recollection of the events sparked his own proper memories. You didn’t ask, just held him, soothing until he finally relaxed enough to fall asleep in your arms.

It wasn’t how you’d been planning on ending your evening, but the story had to be told. He had to know.

You kissed his forehead and he made a soft noise. “Shh, love. You’re safe now. No one will ever hurt you like that again,” you told him softly. He smiled softly and settled back into sleep.

Volume 35, chapter 177

It’s been forever but I’m finally rereading the chapters of the last volume. There’s only two chapters but they are both huge so my comments won’t be short too.

The volume opens with everyone thinking about Arata’s birth, being glad that Kurumi is alright, wondering about the dangers of this new situation or thinking about how in the future they may have to give birth to a child too. They move on to thinking and talking about their own birth, what they know about it, if it was painful for their mom, etc...

There’s a funny snippet with Semimaru realizing his mother never went past the “a stork brought you” talk, before the sad realization of Natsu that she never asked/wanted to know about it because she didn’t like her life.

Hana thinks Arashi must be crying, thinking about the death of his mother before the disaster and wants to give him a hug, while Arashi thinks she must be crying because of what Mozu told her about her parents and he wants to be with her. Of course, they’re both crying and I love how in sync they are.

Semimaru decides to take the wheel of the Ark to get them out of the spider webs but it won’t start. Natsu found a dilapilated handwritten manual and looks for instructions in it. They have to manually start the engine, which is at the bottom of the Ark. Hana and Sakuya investigate there and find out that water is leaking inside. Also, there’s two levers: one to start the engine and one that would let water inside.

On the manual, only the similar parts of the kanji 右 (right) and 左 (left) are visible, so they can’t know which one do what. Hana decides she’ll have to pull both levers and asks Sakuya to go back up and close the door leading to the engine so the water won’t goin the main room but he refuses and stays so they’ll activate both levers at the same time.

Suddendly, Natsu shouts that it must be the right lever and Hana pulls it, going “I BELIEVE YOU, NATCHAN!”

The thing is that despite looking really similar, the left/right kanji aren’t written in the same stroke order: for 左, the horizontal line is the first you put, for 右 you write it as the second line. Because the ink faded a bit on the paper, Natsu could see the way those were written.

Semimaru is awed by Natsu’s impressive kanji knowledge (which I am too, because I can’t remember that stuff but shouldn’t you have learnt that in school Semimaru? :P) but this also means that it wasn’t a 100% sure thing and that the person writing could have not been as studious as Natsu. She knew but hoped for the best, which makes Semimaru even more amazed at how far she’s gone. He gives her a peck on the lips, shocking everyone.

Tsunomata, Haru, Koruri, Aramaki and Ayu finally got to the exit point Hibari had localized, which has a cable car system that she can use to pull them up. But Arashi still hasn’t caught up to them and as he reaches back the pillar room, it collapses. Meanwhile Ango uses the materials Kaname left them to carry Shigeru’s body, with Ryou’s help. He says a few last words to Shigeru because once they climb up, his body will crumble. Matsuri says that Chimaki may be able to do a portrait for him )’:

Then they prepare their climbing equipment but Matsuri’s legs are trembling like crazy. Despite her desperately saying she wants to climb, she’s obviously too afraid to. Ango asks if she would be able to go back on her own the way they came but Ryou tells her to climb and that he’ll support her because he needs her. They use spiderweb to tie themselves together (and to tie Shigeru’s sheet so Ango can take it easily)

Botan tells Ango and Ryou to be careful and to put on civilian clothes once they’re all outside, then wishes them good luck. Semimaru makes the Ark turns on itself to break the threads of spider webs and it works, letting them reach the passageway to the sea.

Aramaki wants to go save Arashi despite having no idea how to, when Arashi tells him not to, he says that it would be the same thing that if Aramaki died, that Hana would cry too if Arashi or anyone were to die. But Arashi says that Hana won’t cry in remorse if he himself died there, that she will understand his feelings of wanting her to be happy, of being happy that she’ll be able to live. He asks her to confirm and she says yes.

This makes Aramaki truly realize that he was not pitiful and sad (or unworthy) for being “left behind” and that Fubuki and Mitsuru saved him because they loved him and wanted his happiness, that they wouldn’t have regretted dying for him. Koruri thinks back to Mayu’s last words, wishing for her happiness too. With all that said though, Arashi adds that hey, it’s not like he has given up yet anyway! He thinks he still may have a way out:

Because the last of the pits they were closing back in volume 31 and 32 is still open, there is hope that it can serve as an escape route to climb up/down from. In fact, Koruri has an idea of her own since she starts to put back her glider together once they are riding the cable car. After activating it, Hibari runs away too, since the smoke of the fire was rising to the computer room.

Semimaru thinks Arashi’s words were super harsh for Hana, making her “promise” not to cry for him (and yeah, while she’d certainly understand what he wished for, the mourning process wouldn’t be any more easy), Hana is indeed trying not to break down while thinking that she’ll go back down Sado to try saving Arashi as soon as the Ark reaches the surface. It’s only when Natsu takes her hand with tears in her eyes that she lets herself go.

Karita, Akane and Gengoro find Kurumi and Ryuusei at last! Ran’s group have met up with Akio and she wants them to all join at the fireplace central room. Kurumi introduces her daughter to Akane while Karita and Gengoro look for the way through the ants hole. Karita discovers Mozu’s left hand in its glove, being carried away by ants, under the shock, he doesn’t say anything to anyone (this will only be brought back in the Gaiden volume)

Once the cable car reaches the end of the line, Koruri asks Haru to bring her luggage with him as she holds her glider. The last words of the chaper are Hana’s thoughts, that she does understand Arashi’s feelings because her own wish is also that he’ll live and be happy.

Being a 19 year old male who lives in London, insurance was clearly going to be a problem. I have however found some decent quotes which include having a tracker fitted. Now, I don't mind it too much but I do have some worries: a) The location/address: on the quote, I provided a relative's address which is outside of London (the address is about 40 to 50 minutes away from my actual address). Consequently, the price was cut by about half! The worry I have is that if I have a tracker installed, won't it be obvious to the insurer that this isn't my real home address when they see me parking and basically using my actual address instead of the relatives'? He is not the type to go to the doctor very often so a very basic plan is what we got him. A few weeks ago my car was rear ended and has minor frame damage from the collision. The insurance adjustor's checked it out and offered me $700 to fix the paint on the bumper, repair the bumper support and 2 hours on a frame rack. Our family has had State Farm for 70 years now, several generations, and in the last 10 years or so we have been progressively more & more disappointed in their caring and customer service. Maybe its just the 'assistants' that my local SF agent (who never talks to his clients any more) use, they both seem to have just horrible attitutudes, sarcastic, and act like you are a complete PITA every time you call. I even have an email from his main assistant that I asked her to forward to the actual agent because I was told he was the only one that could answer my question, and just today I was SHOCKED when I re-read the email, and saw in the forward of my email when his assistant sent it on to the actual SF agent, She said This guy will just not give up, he keeps haunting me about this issue! I couldn't freaking believe it. I was going to forward the email to SF headquarters in Bloomington IL, but then as I read more & more about state farm I saw they are completely independent agents in each office, and have literally NO ONE who is their boss or who can reprimand or correct them. This is unbelievable. If I treated my customers at my work place & gave them the rotten attitude treatment we get from our SF office here, I guarantee you I would lose my job. No one is in charge at state farm obviously. Back to my question - I recently bought a classic car I have been looking for a long time - getting it next week - it is 25 yrs old, all original & in perfect shape. My state (Maryland) lets me register the car as Historic if it is 20 yrs old or more. I plan to do this. I contacted my wonderful state farm office today, to get a quote on a new policy/binder for this collectors car. They apparently don't like insuring a vehicle as Historic, maybe the policy is too cheap & they do not make any money off it. The 'assistant' said the best they can do, even if I REGISTER this vehicle in Maryland as Historic & get an Historic tag, which I will do, she said the best she can do is insure it as part time, occasional pleasure use, under 7500 miles a year . Which of course is NOT an historic policy. You can get that on ANY extra car you have in your household even if it is a 2011 model !! She did say (and I understand this being required) that in order to have is classified as Antique/Classic/Historic, you have to have an appraisal done on the vehicle as if it just came off the show room floor -then the premiums would be much lower if you had full coverage on it, as historic/classic . So here we stand. Can someone out there please help me understand - am I being taken for a ride by my State Farm office? Should I shop around for insurance companies that just specialize in Classic/Historic auto insurance? Chapter Seven: Past And Future Echoes

“Really? That’s great news!” Henry grinned widely and sighed, the tenseness that’d been building inside him dissipating. Sitting on a motel room bed, cell phone to his ear, he listened to Emma, relieved as much as she about news that his baby sister was well. “I can’t wait to meet her. What’s her name? Or have you and Killian not decided yet?”

-“We’re still deciding. But we’ve narrowed it down to a handful of names.” Emma replied, her smile audible in her voice. “Regina said you were on your way back home. So, what time do you think you’ll reach Storybrooke? I can’t wait to see you.”-

Henry chewed on his lip, and lied down on the bed, his gaze lingering on the furniture and decorations in the motel room. “I should be there sometime in the morning.”

-“What? Didn’t you tell Regina you weren’t that far away?”-

“I was. But….something came up.” His expression shifted as he thought about the car from the rest stop gas station. Something about its scraped side and bumper chilled him, though it may have been because he’d just heard about Killian’s accident before seeing it. “Any way, I thought it’d be better to make sure I didn’t drive while tired. I didn’t want to...well, you know.”

-Emma swallowed, a frightened frown on her face. The idea of Henry getting into an accident enough to let her forego asking her son to explain further. “All right. Stay safe, and if you need someone to pick you up or whatever, call me. Okay?”-

“I will. I love you, mom.”

-“I love you too, Henry.-

With that Henry hung up the phone and put it away, his gaze shifting towards the motel room window. Three spaces past his bike was the car he’d noticed at the gas station, its owner having taken a room at the same motel just a few minutes after Henry. His brow furrowed as he stared at it, but his concentration was toppled by drowsiness spreading through him.

The young woman regarded the two before her, an aggrieved gleam in her bluish eyes. Her long ebony locks of hair swayed in a slight breeze, and her pearl skin almost glowed beneath the twilight. The crystalize heart in her hand contrasted brilliantly with her skin and the night surrounding them.

“That bloody crocodile’s corrupted you. This isn’t you.”

“Don’t do this, please.”

The young woman ignored their pleads and squeezed, the heart in her hand becoming dust.

Inhaling sharply, Gold’s brown eyes shot open and he placed a hand on the spinning wheel absentmindedly, the vision fading. It was identical to the one he’d had in the hospital, just outside the neonatal ICU. Three people standing in a clearing, surrounded by towering trees and heavy foliage. Two of them he’d recognized - their faces bore signs of aging about two extra decades worth, but they were without a doubt Emma and Hook. The younger woman, with the deep black hair and pearl skin, he didn’t recognize.

He knew though, based on how Emma and the pirate acted, and the fact he’d received the vision while trying to discern their child’s future, that that woman was their baby. That young woman squeezing someone’s heart to dust was Emma and Hook’s daughter. Gold’s lips twitched in delight, especially considering the pirate’s words in the vision.

‘I doubt a more delicious revenge exists, corrupting his daughter and darkening her heart.’ He coldly chuckled, spinning the wheel as he thought. Unlike a mere scheme for revenge, this particular vision wouldn’t fail. Its clarity and staticity was evidence of that fact. Everything up to it may be mutable, but that outcome was not. ‘I’ll get my revenge. It’ll take years, but I’ll see that pirate suffer. I’ll corrupt his daughter, turn her heart dark.’ He chuckled again, eyes lit with dark enthusiasm. ‘And if anyone tries to banish me to prevent that...I’ll get my revenge much sooner.’

The sudden tapping of knuckles on the basement door broke the quiet, pulling Gold from his dark musing. His eyes narrowed, glaring at the door, and his scowl deepened when his interloper spoke.

“Gold?” Maurice spoke, his voice loud enough to carry through the heavy door. “It’s morning. I...I’m going to make breakfast and try to get Belle to eat. Would you like….”

“I’m fine.” Gold replied gruffly, irritated by the man’s presence in his home, but accepting of it. After returning home last night and finding Belle like he had, Gold didn’t want to leave his wife alone for a second. But he also didn’t trust himself around her - not with the urge building in him to holler at her for nearly leaving him in a way he could not follow. His stomach twisted thinking what would’ve happened if he hadn’t returned home when he did.

If Belle died the same day as Gideon, and in such a way as suicide, Gold would give up even trying to resist the darkness. What would be the point? Belle and Gideon were the only reason he fought against the temptations of the Dark One dagger and the power it granted. For two years he’d resisted it - much longer than he’d ever had - because he loved his family and didn’t want to risk losing them.

‘That ship’s already sailed, has it not? Thanks to that pirate.’

Gold bristled, listening to the Dark One inside him; its manifestation standing behind him in the form of his scaly imp self. The childish pitch to its voice irritating, it’s words cruel and tempting.

‘It’s all fine and good, saving Hook’s daughter just to use her for revenge in the future.’ The Dark One manifestation crooned, an undercurrent of dark amusement in its voice. ‘But waiting years for revenge….that’s a bit lackluster and unfair. He’ll get nearly two decades with his daughter, while you only got two years with Gideon. Not to mention Bae….’

“Don’t…!” Gold spat at the manifestation, hand raised instinctively to magically choke it despite knowing that it was just a projection of his Dark One subconscious. He glowered, remembering his first son Baelfire and how he died a hero, but also remembering how hollow that’d felt.

‘That pirate will get more years with his daughter than you got with either of your sons.’ The manifestation sneered. ‘Considering that, corrupting his daughter just doesn’t have a big enough payoff, now does it, dearie?’

“....” Gold glowered, the apparition’s words aggravating in their truth. Clenching his teeth, he fought against the manifestation’s lulling words. He thought about Belle, about what she would say - she had stopped him at the hospital. Despite losing Gideon same as him, she hadn’t succumbed to darkness.

‘Sure, she stopped you killing Hook’s family, like heroes do. But that ‘good heart’ of hers didn’t prevent her from trying to off herself.’ The apparition taunted and tittered, acting like his annoying imp self complete with gestures. ‘She would leave you, at this most trying time and in such a fatal way. Yet you know she would still beseech you to do the right thing.’ The imp paused for dramatic effect, allowing its words to sink in. ‘You have to admit, she’s asking a bit too much of you, dearie. It’s a bit too much to ask of anyone, let alone someone you profess to love.’

“Enough!” Gold growled at the apparition, angry and hurt and filled with loathing. The urge to strangle his Dark One manifestation, with its barbed taunts designed to tempt him back into the darkness, as overwhelming as it was impossible. “....Belle just had a moment of weakness….I shouldn’t have left her alone. I should’ve stayed….”

‘Really? A guilt-trip?’ His scaly imp apparition asked, incredulous and derisive in its tone and gesture. ‘When did you become a masochist? You’re grieving Gideon same as Belle, and yet she gets to do whatever she wants in her grief, but you do not. Nevermind that you left her to avert another tragedy - to fix a rash decision on your part before another innocent child died.’ The imp narrowed its eyes, a half-smirk on its face. ‘Belle would’ve wanted you to do that, had there been time to explain. Yet….’

“Shut up.” Gold grumbled and closed his eyes, a heavy frown on his face. His heart felt gnawed upon, a numbness spreading out from it. Reaching out to touch the spinning wheel, his fingers trembled and he took in a deep breath. There was nothing he wished for more than to hold his wife and to grieve with her. Yet each second he saw her, he could feel her unresponsive body in his arms and seeing her nearly dead cut keenly into his chest. Part of him wanted to keep close to her even more, never letting her out of his sight; yet remembering that vial in her hand and knowing what she’d done, he felt betrayed. And unbearably numb.

-Enchanted Forest: Before the Curse-

“You’ve cost us, your majesty.” A darkly clad messenger crooned, bowing mockingly at the last part, his tone equally as derisive. He leered at Sir Maurice, the knight-lord who dressed like a king and performed the duties of one, but had the misfortune of ruling too small a land to be titled a king. The crimson gleam in the other’s eyes belied the almost jovial nature of the jeer - it sent shivers through him. “Three of our best, in fact. Not to mention the other lesser ranked members we sent first.”

“That is my fault?!” Maurice glowered at the messenger, raising his voice in frustration and annoyance. What fear he felt from the other’s glowing eyes was eclipsed by a greater fear - a paternal one. “Your organization guarantees success of all the...jobs...it takes. You failed.”

A dry, cold laugh spewed from the darkly clothed man, his fiery eyes darkened by his eyelids and hood. “Because you left out a key detail about the target when you hired us. Now, why you’d would want to assassinate the Dark One, I don’t care. A job’s a job. However, hiring an assassins group from a distant realm with no prior dealings with any Dark One, and not informing them of the potential difficulty and danger of the job, that is something I and my fellow assassins, do care about. It means you either wanted to pay less for the job or couldn’t find any local mercenaries who’d take the job. Or both.”

“That’s….” Maurice swallowed, noticing the curved crimson tanto the messenger had unsheathed. His stomach twisted as he considered the group’s reputation: deadly assassins who never failed.

“Considering what you paid, and the um, lack of wealth your kingdom seems to possess, I’m going with the former reason. Which is most unfortunate for you.” The darkly clad man moved closer, clenching the blood-red blade tightly.

“Wait! Wait! I’ll pay you. Whatever the price should’ve been, I’ll pay it. And you don’t even have to complete the job.” Maurice stammered, his heart racing at the thought of death. Especially one that neither served nor protected his kingdom or his family.

“Heh. Heh.” The assassin coldly chuckled, brandishing his tanto but not continuing his approach. “You’re offering to pay us what should’ve been paid originally, but without needing to complete the job? How amusing.” He leered at the lord, his crimson eyes glowing fiercely. “That would’ve worked, had we not already lost three of our most talented members going after the Dark One.” There was a pause while he thought, his eyes boring into Maurice’s terrified ones. With a laugh, he slid his tanto back into its sheath. “A blood price needs to be paid.”

“A...bl...blood price?”

“We lost members of our...family. It’s only fair you lose some of yours.”

The whistling of the kettle brought Maurice’s attention back to the present, chasing away the memory. At least temporarily. Clearing his throat which felt ready to close up at any moment, he left his chair at the large dining table to fix some tea now that the water was boiling.

“What am I going to do?” He muttered, pinching the bridge of his nose to brace against the throbbing of his head and the tears building at the corners of his eyes. As the whistling of the kettle died down and the quiet descended once more, with not even the soft tap of a footstep carrying down from the floor above nor the basement, Maurice hung his head.

He stared into the teacup, thinking about his daughter. When he made it back last night, after foregoing his original plan to accost Killian, he’d discovered Belle deep asleep in bed. Upon first glance, he’d thought she had been asleep since he first left - but then he saw the mess on the bathroom floor and then the toddler book on the table that had held the crushed vase. It wasn’t proof that Belle had been awake, but he doubt that the mess in the bathroom was made by his son-in-law. Maurice suspected Gold was the type of man who would be destructive in grief, not the kind who got sick from it.

“Colette, what do I do?” Maurice muttered, praying to his deceased wife, his voice heavy. He brought the teacup to his lip and sipped some of the amber liquid, his hand shaking. “Our daughter’s hurting, and it’s my….” His throat tightened, the voice from his memory and from the message last night filling his thoughts. If that message meant what he believed it did, that that Nemesis assassin had had a hand in Gideon’s death, then not only was it not an accident but was also his fault. He’d incurred the ire of that assassin and the rest of that ‘family.’ ‘How can I ever tell Belle?’

Maurice inhaled a shaky breath and bit his inside cheek, willing his thoughts onto something else. His eyes narrowed, focusing on his daughter’s husband. Gold claimed to love Belle, and Maurice had expected the older man to be grieving together with her and offering some bit of comfort. Instead Maurice had discovered Gold in the basement last night, spinning and grieving alone. Understanding the depths of grief and the different ways people dealt with it, Maurice had given his son-in-law son leeway, but it was now after daybreak and Gold had yet to leave the basement.

“How can I trust Gold with Belle if he won’t even leave the basement…?” Maurice grimaced, shaking his head and sighing. “There’s so much to see to arranging...the funeral and….” He covered his lower face with his hands, his eyes red-rimmed. “....I don’t know if I can handle this.” Closing his eyes, he allowed himself a few moments of grief before taking a deep breath, holding it a bit, and then releasing it slowly. “I must though. I must.”
