Deadline’s Contenders Television, the event where stars and showrunners talk up their shows ahead of Emmy voting, has unveiled its lineup.

The event kicks off on Saturday April 13 and runs through Sunday April 14 at the Directors Guild of America in LA. There will also be a virtual livestream of the event. Full details of the event and an RSVP link can be found here.

It will give you a sense of the hits of the last twelve months, as well as some shows that you’re about to be talking about, as the networks, studios and streamers vie for some awards love.

(2/15) “When I was a little girl there were two records in our house that weren’t church music. One was a single of a kid named Jimmy singing ‘I saw Mommy kissing Santa Clause.’ And the other was Nat King Cole. We weren’t allowed to dance. So I’d put on Nat King Cole whenever I vacuumed, just so I could move to the music. Love, was made for me and you.’ Boy, did I wish someone would sing to me like that. But nobody I knew sang love songs. We were Fundamental Baptists. Southern Baptists are the ones you see on the news for being so conservative, but Fundamental Baptists are much more conservative than that. We never even had a TV in our house. But we did have a library card. And that’s how I was introduced to the world of Christian Romance novels. These were tame. But I’d bring them home six at a time, because they were all I had. At least until 7th Grade, when I discovered Ms. Johnson kept harlequin romance novels on the back shelf of our classroom. These were the real thing. On the cover there would always be this young, innocent girl. And some worldly-wise guy would be staring right into her eyes. It was like: ‘Oh wow.’ I wanted someone to look at me like that. But I never went on dates. In Baptist College I was voted ‘most naive’ three years in a row. At night I’d sit outside our dorm and sing lullabies. Boys would fill up the benches around me. All my life men have been drawn to me, I will say that. Because what I offer is rich. I met my husband in the school ensemble, and he’d always find a way to sit next to me. He wasn’t exactly a character from a romance novel, but he had a ventriloquist puppet named Clovis. Clovis was black. And to be honest I fell in love with Clovis before my husband. My husband was meek. It was Clovis that told me I was beautiful. It was Clovis that called me on the phone. And one evening when we were eating supper with my family, it was Clovis that got down on one knee.”

My 10 Favorite Aggressive Flirts in BL

Sparked by this question from @yousaygoodbyeandisay and the ensuing discussion. So we are going with aggressive flirts, not necessarily good or super successful flirts. Ready? These are my personal favorites, there are A LOT to choose from.

1. Wen Ke Xing - Word of Honor

Signature moves? Waving around a big deadly fuck-off fan, calling his husband soulmate and perfect, recognizing the innate beauty in swords and shoulder blades, adopting adult children, killing everyone and everything else.

You know I don’t ordinarily mention Chinese stuff, but in a post about flirting. I would be so remiss if I didn’t include this absolute king of all the censored flirts to ever pick up a deadly man in a pastel robe.

2. Win - Until We Meet Again

His signature moves? The casual arm throw, stripping down to show his tattoos, cuddling, stealing a potato chip in the most iconic way humanly possible.

3. Shin - Minato’s Laundromat

Signature moves? Cooking and feeding, looming, constant requests to be allowed further intimacy and care duties, open displays of attention and interest.

4. YooHan - Color Rush

Signature moves? Causing his man to faint, learning about and talking about color, using said knowledge to seduce, lots of dates, breaking him out of conversion therapy mental hospital, running away with him.

5. Nosue-san - Old Fashion Cupcake

With the release of AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM, the DCEU has officially ended.

You could never make me hate you.

AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM THOUGHTS. MORE SPOILERS THAN FISH IN THE SEA.

THE GOOD

-Loved the humour of it. The DCEU has been so serious and I find myself loving the lighter ones like WONDER WOMAN 2, the SHAZAM films and THE FLASH. Plus, Jason Momoa is better equipped for comedy/action, than drama. Meanwhile, Patrick Wilson excels at both! How great is he in this?!

Wilson was just so game. The cockroach scenes (scenes because there is a mid-credit call-back) would have been downright dumb if it was played by someone less committed than Wilson.

And the humour in their interactions weren't clunky because this is Arthur having the brother experience that he never had. It ties back to his father Tom (Temuera Morrison) saying Junior should have a sibling and how he wished Arthur had one. Now we see it played out, complete with the older sibling bullying (convincing Orm to eat a cockroach by saying it's the shrimp of the land. Which is priceless because people call shrimp the cockroaches of the seas).

-As soon as Kordax said his darkest night had ended, I knew what was going on.

Blackest Night!!!!!

Yes, the core story was vastly different but this was the their nod to it.

-People living under the sea should stoke the imagination so I'm happy they finally made the civilization under the sea so lively instead of us just watching Atlantean council meetings. Give us the nightlife!

THE BAD

-I don't think we got enough time with Black Manta.

It honestly felt like Randall Park's Stephen Shin had more screen-time.

Stephen who is obviously Jimmy Woo's identical twin cousin.

I think the film should have gone deeper into David Kane's slip into madness due to the trident with more of his "Gollum" scenes where we can see how Kordax is spurring him on.

But at least they gave Black Manta a great death. I was just waiting for Arthur to grab him and Black Manta still fall to his death. But it's so fitting that David wouldn't dare let the man who killed his father (a man who doesn't even feel bad about it) save him. True standing on business! Or falling... Falling on business.

-The water effects are horrible. I think it likely looks better in 3D but in standard - hazy, uncanny valley.

THE REST

-Pilou Asbaek plays Kordax and I find it fitting that my wretched sh!tty despot uncle of the Iron Islands plays a power hungry Atlantean.

-I was the only person to laugh at the Topo line spoken by Atlanna (Nicole Kidman).

Return of the King.

And Storm!

-Though in the SnyderCut we get Martian Manhunter, thus fulfilling the motto of Unite the Seven

in this film we get another united seven - the seven kingdoms of Atlantis which includes the titular lost kingdom.

-Felt like James Wan did a fair bit of nods. We get Orn living above ground at an outdoor restaurant a'la Bruce's retired life in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. Arthur and Orn's team-up is like Thor and Loki's in THOR: RAGNAROK. Arthur even calls Orn Loki before making a Harry Potter reference.

There's a shot of Black Manta sat in the navigation chair in his Black Manta gear casting the same type of demeanor as T'Challa in BLACK PANTHER. The ending with Arthur deciding to tell the world about Atlantis is straight cribbed from BLACK PANTHER and IRON MAN. Is this the cinematic version of someone losing a match and shaking the hand of their opponent?

Wooing Bruce

Bruce Banner/Jimmy Woo for @bruceweek 2023! Rating: Teen Summary: Jimmy performs card tricks to calm Hulk down. In the year that follows, he and Bruce get to know each other a little better.

There’s a growl in the darkness. Hulk is sat in the corner of the room, attempting to tie a motorcycle in a knot. At Jimmy’s approach, he bears green lips in a snarl.

In times of crisis, instinct takes over. Hands trembling, Jimmy whips out his badge. ‘Mister uh, Hulk? Agent Woo, FBI.’

Hulk grunts, giving him only a cursory glare before returning to the task at hand. At least he’s not ripped Jimmy’s arms off yet, which is a really promising sign.

‘I heard you like card tricks. Scott’s a buddy of mine, he’s sorry he couldn’t make it today.’ Not as sorry as he’s going to be later, Jimmy adds mentally. He takes out the deck of cards. Now Hulk’s looking at him. Oh god he hasn’t practiced in two weeks. It’s fine. It’s practically muscle memory at this point.

Jimmy takes a card from the deck. His thumb slips. The whole deck flutters to the floor.

Hulk’s beady eyes narrow. Yep, this is how he dies. Like a jester whose king tires of their jokes. Jimmy’s lower lip wobbles.

Then Hulk chuckles. He sets the motorcycle aside. ‘S’okay. Go again, new guy.’

The Avengers: Earth Mightiest Heroes & X-Men Evolution series watch

Breakout part 1&2 written by Christopher Yost

Part 1

Iron Man and JARVIS track A.I.M. as they sell Stark's technology to Latveria through Dr. Doom's agent Lucia von Bardas. Iron Man attacks and defeats A.I.M. members, warns von Bardas, and orders JARVIS to send them to the vault. In the cube, Samson at the cell of Bruce Banner, Banner warns him that S.H.I.E.L.D. is going to use the villains as weapons. Samson tries to calm Banner, but he insists that the cube is dangerous. Thor is guarding a city when Balder from Asgard asks him to return home and protect it. Thor declines, explaining that he is needed in the city to make a difference. Later, Thor saves Jane from a speeding car and admits to being intrigued by her bravery. Iron Man delivers the A.I.M. members to Jimmy Woo at the Vault. Jimmy reports an accident last week and explains the need for better containment. Iron Man leaves without further discussion. Ant-Man discusses with Mad Thinker a forthcoming event that Whirlwind hinted at. Mad Thinker clarifies that the timing of the event is known, but not the details. Wasp and Maria Hill discuss Fury's offer to Ant-Man while walking when Suddenly, there is a blackout.

Hawkeye's cell open during a blackout in the vault. Similar incidents occur at the Cube and the Big House. Meanwhile, the helicarrier is under attack by several villains. Fury and Quartermain try to control the situation. Several S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and villains engage in combat, while Wasp and Maria disagree about their next move. Iron Man receives an emergency call from Pepper about the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier. He flies to the vault upon discovering that it has not transmitted any data. Meanwhile, Thor, discussing his father's Sleep, is interrupted by an explosion, which he investigates. Banner is freed in the Cube but trapped under rubble. Samson, infected by gamma radiation, says only the Hulk can stop prisoners. Samson lifts the rubble with his strength, but is zapped by Zzzax and falls.

Wasp arrives in the Helicarrier's Big House room. Ant-Man is attacked by Mandrill and King Cobra. Meanwhile, Red Ghost is attacked by two Ultron units, but he turns intangible and destroys one of them with their lasers. Peotor and Miklho destroy the other two Ultron units. Ant-Man fights back shrinks to escape Cobra's grip and punches him. Griffin attacks Ant-Man, who falls into a deep hole but survives. The Helicarrier crashes into the ocean. In the vault, Iron Man mistakes Hawkeye for an enemy and attacks him and Whiplash. Hawkeye fails to explain, and Iron Man is attacked by Blizzard, causing him to fall. Living Laser, Blizzard, and Whiplash then surround Iron Man, causing damage to his armor. Crimson Dynamo grabs him. Iron Man orders JARVIS to hack the system and evacuate the agents. In The Helicarrier, Maria Hill reports the situation of the prisons, and Nick Fury worries about the raft of the fourth prison. In the raft, where Baron Zemo is, a captivated Graviton is shown and releases himself.

Banner transforms into the Hulk to fight Zzzax in the cube. The Leader sees that the same situation is happening in the house and vault. He orders Abomination and Absorbing Man to kill the Hulk. In the vault, Iron Man defeats Crimson Dynamo and Blizzard, then activates the self-destruct sequence and flies away. The vault explodes, and Iron Man is caught in the blast and thrown into the mountains. JARVIS reports a breakout in the cube and the helicarrier needs a new Iron suit. Whirlwind holds Ant-Man on the Helicarrier. Griffin attacks Ant-Man but misses as he dodges by shrinking. Ant-Man attacks Whirlwind, causing him to stumble. Wasp catches Ant-Man as he falls. Hulk rescues Samson but is attacked by Abomination and Absorbing Man. Hulk escapes with Samson as Nick Fury encounters Graviton at the Raft. Graviton throws Fury away when he tries to shoot.

part 2

10 Years ago, Nick Fury and Franklin Hall discussed the Super Soldier project in SHIELD. Hall caused an explosion during an experiment with graviton particles and woke up cuffed to a hospital bed. He activated his gravity powers, and demanded to see Fury, but fell unconscious due to sleeping gas in the room. In the present day, he is released from his imprisonment and asks what is happening, Baron Zemo tells him that he's been there for six years and Franklin has been there longer than him. Graviton and Fury face each other, and the Fury pulls out a gun but is thrown away by Graviton. Graviton wants revenge on Fury for imprisoning him. He crushes his bones but is interrupted by Thor. Fury falls with the Raft, but he is caught by Wasp. Thor arrives and challenges Graviton to a fight.

Iron Man Mark VI crashes on a farm, orders JARVIS to access Mark VII's armor, and flies to fight Graviton. Fury leads the mission, and Ant-Man asks about the villain. Fury says it's Franklin Hall, rest classified. Thor attacks Graviton but fails. Hulk arrives at a dinner and leaves Samson with the staff. Sees news of Thor fighting Graviton. Hulk talks to Bruce and agrees to save lives if he's a force for good, not just a monster.

At the harbor, the fight continues which makes Wasp annoyed and helps Graviton forces Thor under the ocean and overpowers Wasp. Iron Man attacks Graviton, scanning him before being pulled into space. Giant Man grabs Graviton, warning Wasp to stay out of the fight. Graviton frees himself and Thor escapes Graviton's force. Graviton reaches Fury grabs him and crushes him, revealing him to be a LMD. Fury is hiding behind containers. Thor ambushes Graviton, causing him to fall and release his grip on the city. Iron Man joins the fight and blasts Graviton with his unibeam. Ant-Man, Wasp, Thor, and Iron Man surround Graviton, who pushes them away. The Hulk arrives and pushes Graviton into the harbor. The rest arrive at the scene, while Hulk attacks Graviton withstanding his Gravitational powers. Graviton prevails and forcing everyone to the ground, Hulk tries to stand. Ant-Man uses a red ant to distract Graviton while Iron Man, Giant-Man, Wasp, Hulk, and Thor unleash powerful attacks. Wasp finishes off Graviton with a sting, leaving him exhausted and defeated.

Thor suggests celebrating their victory against Graviton. S.H.I.E.L.D. arrives to capture the Hulk, but Iron Man defends him. Fury informs them that 74 supervillains have escaped and invites them to S.H.I.E.L.D. to discuss the next steps. Iron Man believes they can defeat the villains if they work together as a team and suggests the name "Avengers." Quartermain reports to Fury that Graviton was not the only one responsible for the breakout.

Okay, a lot happen in this episode, but sadly it another one of those episodes where I don't necessarily have a lot to say about because of how heavily action focus and because it's mostly set up. The Avengers officially form. Fury prove himself to be more of an antagonistic force. It is good set up, you see several villains in the background escape and even a little bit of what they can do. The Leader for example gets a good set up showing his cunning and his discussion to bid his time and not directly engage in the battle will pay off latter, but for now that's it just set up.

I do find it sad that this cartoon for children, is doing far planning and being able to demonstrate that in just it's visual storytelling then the MCU is doing right now. Clearing coming with a plan and respect for the source material.

Character wise Thor and Hulk probably get the most. Thor expresses is ennui about Asgard's unending battles and feeling much more comfort on earth because he is feeling like he's actually accomplishing when protecting people there rather than just the unending cycle that's on Aagard. Hulk get something in the it feels good to be a hero but also in his agreement with the Banner persona where Hulk want to be the dominant personality.

Middleverse written by Adam Beechen

During lunch, Kurt, Scott, Jean, Evan, and Kitty discuss going to a party. Scott thinks it's too dangerous, but everyone else wants to go. Kurt's tail pops out, proving Scott's point. Kurt tells Scott to loosen up, but Scott tells Kurt to stop goofing around. Kurt teleports away and breaks his hologram disguise. Kurt hides in a lab and triggers an alarm. The lab explodes, and Rogue finds a device that survived the blast. During a struggle, she accidentally zaps Kurt with it, and he disappears. Kurt is now trapped in another dimension with phantom images of other students. Meanwhile, Jean and Scott hear reports of a blue demon ghost. Scott tries to contact Kurt but can't find him. They encounter the Blob and Avalanche, and Scott attacks Avalanche when they won't tell him what happened to Kurt. Principal Darkhölme breaks up the fight and takes Jean and Scott to her office.

Kurt is panicking trying to find a way out. Toad, meanwhile has found the devise and zaps every bit of furniture away with it. He jumps out of the window when he hears Darkhölme, Jean and Scott coming. Jean and Scott witness Toad zap Raven's car. Kurt teleports and briefly appears in the office. The X-Men go after Toad. Kurt meets Forge, who created the "Middleverse" pocket dimension and has been trapped there since the 1970s. Forge creates a device to help Kurt return and gives instructions on how to save them.

The X-Men capture Toad who tells them that Kurt is missing. Rogue admits to doing something to Kurt and takes them to the lab. Kitty and Evan discover that Kurt is trapped in a pocket dimension. Cyclops wants to destroy the device. Kitty suggests shorting out the device instead of destroying it. Kurt uses the gadget that Forge made for him and ports in to say "Reset. Don't…" before he disappears again. Scott figures they are meant to reset it. Forge and Kurt need more power to be able to port back through the portal to get home. Kurt teleports them to the car.

Kurt and Forge use the car's battery to drive through the portal, smashing the gizmo and running straight into the Blob. As the gizmo is destroyed, the Brotherhood flees the scene. Rogue watches as the X-Men and Forge leave the lab. Scott invites Forge to stay at Xavier's, but he declines and decides to go home instead. The X-Men pack into Scott's convertible and Kurt and Scott apologize to each other. Scott admits he was wrong and they all agree to attend the party.

This was another episode that was just fine. It was mostly highlight in animation. Again, I will say this show excels in storyboards. It knows how to frame it's "camera" so even just scenes where characters are just talking things look interesting.

Character focus there's more on Rogue this episode foreshadowing her eventual turn to the X-Men.

Also this episode really made me question is how much and made me laugh is like, how much Principal stuff Mystique has to do. There's just something about the implications of that.

Something I found off about this episode was the lighthearted way it treated it's ending with forge. He's so nonchalant about the whole thing. He's just gonna walk home and he just makes a joke about missing curfew. Then everyone else just shrugs and leaves too. I know this is a kids show but it feels like such an under reaction.

So far Evolution set up seems to have character focus with one off stories and it's so far worked.

Audrey Hepburn (Ondine)

The most startlingly lovely young personality to arrive on Broadway in more than a decade is Audrey Hepburn, the young English actress whose stage debut occurred in the Anita Loos adaptation of Colette's novel Gigi only two seasons ago. In less than a week the theatre housing that play had her name in lights over the title. Between the season-long run of Gigi and its country-wide tour last year, Audrey Hepburn made her first American film, on location in Rome. Her performance as Princess Ann in Roman Holiday, co-starred with Gregory Peck, made a clean sweep of the film critics' polls at year-end: the New York Film Critics' Circle voted her the best screen actress of the year; the survey conducted by Film Daily added the accolade of "outstanding find" of 1953. With her newest film, Sabrina Fair, in which she plays a chauffeur's daughter wooed by Humphrey Bogart and William Holden, awaiting release, she was free to return to the stage. Of the many tempting offers she chose to ally herself to the role of the Rhine water sprite, Ondine. Audrey Hepburn was born in Brussels twenty-four years ago, daughter of an Irish father and a Dutch mother. Her family sent her to England to study as a child. When the Nazi blitzkreig swept over Europe Audrey was only ten, and her mother took her to Holland. When that country was overrun she was forced to spend five years of bitter privation under occupation. She went to school in Arnheim and danced in benefits to raise money for the Dutch underground. At war's end she studied ballet in London at the Rambert School, and to earn her tuition took a job in the London duplication of the American musical comedy High Button Shoes. It was, she admits with the refreshing candor so characteristic of her, a chorus role, but it led to solo spots in other musicals, Sauce Tartare and Sauce Piquante, and to bits in the English films The Lavender Hill Mob, Young Wives' Tale, The Secret People, and Monte Carlo Baby. It was while on location in Monte Carlo for the latter that Colette, searching for an unknown young miss to create her Gigi on the stage, discovered Audrey Hepburn and knew at once her search was at an end.

Mel Ferrer (Hans)

It didn't take Mel Ferrer long to rise to stardom in Hollywood once the film producers decided to put him in front of a camera instead of keeping him hidden behind one. The New York-born actor, who now returns to the theatre for the first time since he acted in the dramatization of Lillian Smith's Strange Fruit in 1945 and directed José Ferrer—they are no relation—the following season in Cyrano de Bergerac, went to California soon afterwards to direct the film Girl of the Limberlost. When Louis de Rochemont made his film of Lost Bound Aries he remembered Mel Ferrer from Strange Fruit and cast him in the leading role. From there the star went on to in creasingly important roles in The Brave Bulls, Scaramouche, Rancho Notorious, Lili, the CinemaScope spectacle Knights of the Round Table, in which he appears as King Arthur, and the forthcoming Saadia. After attending Princeton, where he won the playwrights' award in his sophomore year, he went to Mexico to write a children's book, which he called Tito's Hats, brought him to the attention of the Stephen Day Press, which he served as editor for a year. Mel Ferrer thereupon moved over to Broadway. He appeared as a dancer in You Never Know and Everywhere I Roam, as an actor in Cue For Passion and Kind Lady. Essaying still another medium, he entered radio, soon was a producer-director, supervising such programs as The Hit Parade, Mr. District Attorney, Dr. I.Q., and the Jimmy Durante comedy hour. Once in Hollywood, along with Gregory Peck, Dorothy McGuire, and Joseph Cotten, he founded the La Jolla Playhouse where since 1947 the quartet of actor-producers has presented an average of nine plays each summer, more than half of which Mr. Ferrer has staged.

they’re personalities have really changed!

jon was so mean and grumpy and standoffish and mean. Now he’s. softer? he’s nicer, WAY more nervous, or at least the anxiety shows now, his tone isn’t as sharp, he’s all around generally softer i guess! he’s changed! for the better or the worse.

Martin was very nervous and jumpy and yk. he’s the type of guy to let people walk all over him. not anymore !! He’s harder and tougher and stands up for himself and you can tell by the way he talks it’s. sharper. but not mean necessarily, but he would stand up for himself.

they have changed! i like to think about this
