LuteLyre’s Inuyasha Fic: You Were A Fistfight - COMPLETE
WELL I actually finished this before the new year, but just managed to make a tumbles post about it. I finished the KaguKik Modern angst-fest! It’s 3 parts, a modern AU crimes/criminals grunge fest, and I had a blast playing with the style. You can read it HERE on A03.
Warnings for Angst with a capital A, sexual content, references to abuse/torture/crime, Naraku being twisty AF re: coercive/dubious consent, and some blood/murder.

Inuyasha rare pair of your choice:: 29. A kiss ..."as a promise"
Tumblr media
There were many things Kikyou was forced to lock away during her life; so many feelings she had to bury deep within herself in order to fulfill her duty as the Keeper of the Shikon no Tama. There was no room for self-doubt or sorrow just as there was no allowance for real happiness or whimsy.
Purity. It was her prison in life.
But she was no longer alive.
Walking the earth as a phantom, her partial soul confined to a clay body, Kikyou was no longer shackled to the expectations that had once weighed her down. In her death had been release.
Freedom.
All the freedom in the world to do as she pleased, act as she pleased, feel as she pleased.
For the first time in her existence, she could experience the fullness of life as it had been denied to her before. But to live a normal life was as unattainable a wish as holding an ocean. All she could do now was throw herself into the waters, allow herself to bask in it without fear of drowning. (She was already dead, after all.)
She was as much unbound to her duty as she was to the rest of society.
Free to hate.
Free to love.
Even her idea of love used to be confined to what was allowed. What was appropriate. A husband and children and domestic subservience. Those were society’s standards for a woman. A part of her stilled mourned the loss, but a greater part felt a great triumph to escape it. Now, Kikyou no longer cared for their rules or ethics, for their acceptance or respect. How fickle and selfish were their desires and affections.
But she could be fickle and selfish too now. She abandoned propriety. She captured what life she could to sustain herself, threw herself into a revenge-fueled quest for justice, beckoned the half-demon to whom she almost gave her heart and left him without explanation. She didn’t need him as a lover anymore. She didn’t need any man.
And so when it wasn’t a man who piqued her interest, Kikyou no longer buried the feeling, nor did she feel any shame. It wasn’t even difficult for her to wonder why the Wind Sorceress was so captivating to her. After all, she had an affinity for those who craved freedom as she did. A demon. An incarnation of her murderer. Being a woman was laughably inconsequential in comparison.
And because Kikyou was free to do as she wished, she let herself lean into her curiosity without trepidation.
For her part, Kagura had the power to animate the dead, but she had absolutely no control over the resurrected miko. Kikyou was an entirely different existence, and one that Kagura approached with caution. While Kikyou always made quick work of Naraku’s wasps, she allowed the Kagura to survey her without care. Why?
It wasn’t out of fear. If she truly wanted to, the priestess was more than capable enough to overpower the demoness. All it would take was an arrow or two, at least to send her away. But she was able to get near enough, closer and closer until the sorceress practically sat in her shadow.
(It was oddly reminiscent of another time and another love; a whole lifetime ago.)
The conversations came with time. Two even-headed women with winter etched into their veins. It turned out they had more in common than they’d expected. A dislike of crowds, a low tolerance for foolishness, and a vice-like grip on their desire to be free. So it came as no surprise that their mutual attraction was largely fueled by an innate, burning streak of rebellion—a delicious defiance against the half-demon that threatened Kagura’s heart and desired Kikyou’s.
Kikyou could give her affection and time to anyone she chose, and she chose what he saw as his servant. Not him. Never him.
Their companionship was a secret. Hidden behind barriers and nightfall, Kikyou let herself give in to her own desires. Light grazes eventually had them wrapped up together, and it was under a moonless night that Kikyou stole the first kiss.
It felt as scandalous as it did liberating—another part of herself that she’d stamped out awoke; rose from amongst the ashes she was formed by. And Kikyou laughed in the wake of its discovery. Oh, how she’d been so blind. All those days staring at the beautiful girls who got to dress up, and she had desperately believed that she wanted to be them. And certainly that was part of it, but it hadn’t been the full story, had it? So she kissed the Wind Sorceress again, and again, and when she felt Kagura relent and respond, it was a triumph. The fire of rebellion gave way to a different sort of heat—the spark of elation, the warmth of fondness—and they both ended up smiling.
But their circumstances weren’t lost on either woman.
“What does this mean for us?” Kagura asked, a hand on Kikyou’s hip.
“Does it have to mean anything in particular?”
The demoness smirked. “No.” Did she want it to? It was difficult to say. “But I will have to leave in the morning.”
“What will you tell him?”
“That I need to keep an eye on you more,” she replied deviously. “That I have no idea what you’re thinking or planning.”
Another kiss. They were smart women, knowing how to manipulate and keep their secrets close.
“So you’ll be back.” Kikyou said. A request more than a statement or question.
“If he permits it,” she grated. It was the best she could do. Kagura was a caged bird, as Kikyou had once been. Even off to roam, she must return back to her keeper.
Gently, Kikyou traced Kagura’s cheek, studying the firestorm of resentment and defiance in her red eyes, so different from her own and yet like a mirror of their hearts. The priestess found herself drawn in by the color, eventually coming to hover over rouged lips. “I’ll destroy him,” she promised with quiet certainty.
The romanticism of it pulled the sorceress in. In a hot breath she murmured, “I’ll let you,” before closing the gap between them.

We also have a brief cameo from Kagura and Kikyo, Kohaku remembered the two women who accompanied him when he was in his duel ✨
Kagura encouraged him to live and Kikyo when Kohaku was about to die, she gave him a second chance, because HE deserved to live 😭✨
Besides, he didn't think that only Kikyo is happy for Kohaku, also Kagura, in the end Kohaku moved on and became the great man he is today.

Kikyou! <333 You know who really loved Kikyou, though? The animation team. I feel like especially in The Final Act, any time Kikyou was on screen the animation quality leapt up. All her frames are beautiful and given their due time. (The pacing of the first part of Final Act was absolutely bonkers but even in the need to tell 999999 chapters of story in 26 episodes, Kikyou got her due, story unfolding with control, breath, slowness in ways that usually do not happen when you only have 24 minutes per episode.) Truly, I have never seen any other character so lovingly rendered . Haters stay mad, we got the MEDIUM ITSELF on our side. 😂 💅
You could not watch an Inuyasha AMV without her being in it because the camera loved her!!! The animation team was doing it For Her! Kikyou trying to drag Inuyasha to hell was one of the most well done scenes in the original and there was a lot of competition, just from other Kikyou scenes! (Her first fight with Kagura for instance!!!)
And YES! The way they handled her story in Final Act was KOOKY for 26 episodes and a huge cast. Her death scene alone was so well animated and given gravity. Which is also insane considering how even the opening looked like they had been working up to the wire and still hadn't finished yet.

BSD Inuyasha AU
Chuuya as Inuyasha, keeper of the sacred jewel, who was trapped (with a poisoned knife of all things) to the jidaiju
Dazai as kagome, who has perfect aim (but wants to spend time with his chibi dog) so he missed and shattered the sacred jewel (scattered the pages of The book). Also, he uses a gun (priestess with bows are outdated or so he says)
Odasaku as Kaede who teaches dazai how to use a bow and "please use it dazai we're in the medieval era, we're not supposed to have guns" "but you have magic!" "... Just don't use guns all the time"
Shirase as kikyou but he wasn't a powerful miko, but everyone (the sheep) thought he was so he befriended chuuya for power, when he saw chuuya had the book, he also claimed that HE'S it's keeper because how could a demon protect it and resist the power it holds.... So his legacy is a big sham
(Dazai gets absolutely jealous whenever chuuya brings up shirase (out of hatred), so he practices all his skills because he is better than that guy and he just wants to show chuuya.... He was successful in getting chuuya's attention, it earns him brownie points)
Akutagawa as miroku (and rashomon instead of black hole), but instead of sudden fondling, he's fond of sudden dismemberment
Atsushi as Sango, he wants to save his sister (kyouka) from naraku (mori). Also the victim of aku's dismembering tendencies all the time
Kouyou as kagura, she's become fond of the little girl (kyouka) and she gives advices on how to avoid mori's watchful eyes once in a while
Verlaine as sesshoumaru, instead of wanting chuuya's sword, he just wants to protect his brother (from dazai specifically) so he follows their journey.
Verlaine (sesshomaru) gang
Mori (naraku) gang
Soukoku (kagome & inuyasha) the sillies
Shin soukoku (sango & miroku) the big brothers

Inuvember 2023 Part 1
In honor of @inuvember InuKag Day, the Archive Mods have put together a 30 item InuKag recommendation list: one InuKag fic per prompt. Since this list is longer than our usual, we've split it into two parts. Enjoy!
Day 1 Inuyasha
I Hate That Fucking Well by @kstewdeux (M)
Post-manga. Inuyasha POV. Inuyasha's inner thoughts and monologues. Rated M for fucking language
Day 2 Kagome
Cinnamon Hearts by @fandomobsessions016 (M)
"So, you may be wondering, what’s this story about anyway? Well, I’ll tell you. It’s about how this queen, almost lost her crown, her throne, but worst of all… it’s about how this queen almost lost her king…
Hindsight, of course, has perfect vision, but at the time I did not. I was a girl becoming a woman who fought bitterly against change that was inevitable. I didn’t want to open my eyes. I didn’t want to see what was right in front of me.
What I wanted more than anything was to keep Inuyasha.
High school forced my eyes open, tested our “unshakable” bond and made me confront my biggest fear. All because…
I caught feelings for my best friend.
I like-liked my king."
Day 3 Sango
Forever Home by KittyKatz (M)
How long had he roamed the earth in a form that was not his? Beaten, dirty and caged, he finds one last bit of fortune when she comes to rescue him from this place. But his road to redemption will not be easy. And he will find, that no matter how the world has changed, his old enemy remains. And this time, they plan to destroy him once and for all.
Day 4 Miroku
Under the Northern Lights by @lostinfantasyworlds (E)
Kagome Higurashi has her dream job, working as a photographer for the internationally well-known Yugen magazine. Her career whisks her all around the world, leaving her feeling lonely sometimes but mostly just incredibly grateful to be doing what she loves. When she gets assigned to Alaska for a month to photograph a series of celestial events, she runs into Inuyasha, a half-demon who lives on his own in the middle of nowhere. A mutual attraction draws them to each other, but Kagome's time there is limited. Will giving in to their desire lead to love or heartbreak?
Day 5 Shippo
Oh, But You're Good To Me by @witchygirl99 (E)
It’s a terrible photo, really. The action figure takes up the entire bottom of the screen and part of both of their faces. Shippo’s giggling though, eyes shut and crinkled in his mirth while Inuyasha looks at him. His expression is clearly fond. It’s the softest Inuyasha has ever, ever seen himself.
This is fatherhood, he thinks a little wildly.
He sends the photo to Kagome.
Inuyasha is a single father. Shippo is his adopted son. Kagome isn't supposed to be in the picture, but somehow, she returns anyways. A story about family, love, and all of its obstacles.
Day 6 Sesshomaru
Whispers in the Wind by @ruddcatha (G)
It has been 500 years since Kagome jumped back down the well to be with Inuyasha. A messenger waits to see her family, and is joined by a surprising guest.
Day 7 Rin
My Life Before You by @len-barboza (E) -- based on a story by Mizune-mei
No English language summary provided.
Day 8 Kikyou
Stolen Soul by Kimberly-A (T)
COMPLETE Kikyo uses a spell to exchange bodies with Kagome, leaving Kagome stuck in the dead shell and Kikyo comfortably human. In the aftermath, Inu-Yasha faces difficult choices. InuKag, not very Kikyo-friendly.
Day 9 Koga
A New Moon, A New Start by @pinestripes (T)
Kouga visits the village near the Sacred Tree. On this particular evening, he finds that a certain half-demon is more on edge than usual.
Day 10 Kagura
The Portal Between Worlds by @neutronstarship (E)
Ten years ago, a portal transported Inuyasha from the demon realm to the human realm. Now a half-demon alone in a world he doesn't understand, he will do anything to get home. When Onigumo brings him a book with all the answers, Inuyasha pushes aside his misgivings and works with the man. He just wants to get home, after all.
Kagome just wants to make an extra buck (and find demons), much to Kikyo’s chagrin. That is why she published Demons Among Us! after all. But strange things start happening when she puts the book online. As if people are using it to open the portals that it hypothesized… When Kagura and Sango join the fray, the stakes grow higher as they try to find the source of the portals.
When Inuyasha encounters Kagome, fate is not what it seems. Not one, but two realms are in danger for their survival. What happens when the final portal opens and an unknowable terror is unleashed? Can the Demon Hunters save the world?
Day 11 Naraku
You Rescued Me by @keizfanfiction (E)
Maybe it was fate that he decided to take the back way home that night, but whatever the reason, Inuyasha was grateful for arriving just in the nick of time to rescue a waif of a woman who had clearly been through hell. He never would have imagined that she would end up rescuing him, too.
Day 12 Band of Seven
Delicate by @akitokihojo (T)
To trust someone, to let them in, what an unsettling ordeal. Kagome is easy and safe, and Inuyasha is difficult and guarded. She can put him at ease with a smile, simultaneously setting him on edge. It was nothing until it was something, creating absolute chaos and uncertainty within the both of them.
Day 13 Jinenji/ Shiori
How Does Your Garden Grow? by @dawnrider (M)
An Ingary-esque AU: Kagome, the newest generation of caretakers of the Higurashi House, finally starts to feel like her garden and business is thriving with the help of her friend Jinenji. Their routine is thrown off by the arrival of an injured visitor who does not want to be found...
Day 14 Toga
Taisho School of Acting: A Quick Guide by @jeremymarsh (G)
“Excuse me, what?” Kagome looked at her best friend with eyes as big as saucers, lips parted, and her mind replaying what he had said a moment before – trying to find a sense but to no avail. “You heard me.” Inuyasha scowled, looking down, arms crossed and lips pouting, just like he did every time he didn’t like the topic at hand. The problem was he had started it this time. “Yeah, I did.” Kagome shook her head and inhaled deeply before she continued. “And that’s why I’m asking you to repeat yourself since I’m having problems believing that certain sentences left your mouth.” “I said,” Inuyasha started through clenched teeth, still not meeting her gaze, “come to my family Christmas dinner this Sunday.” He stopped, ran a hand through his silver mane, closed his eyes, murmured something unintelligible and then added: “As my girlfriend.”
Where Inuyasha tries to fool his parents and miserably fails.
Day 15 Izayoi
The Silence of Daisies by Fierywenchxo (T)
Inuyasha shares with Kagome one of the biggest secrets he's ever kept. One-shot.

Back on my steadily chugging KaguKik angst train, and boldly starting my first Inuyasha multi-chapter. This will be 3 parts! I’m playing with a new format, exploring a crimes n’ criminals modern AU setting, and having a lot of fun with words.
Warnings for Angst with a capital A, sexual content, references to abuse/torture/crime, Naraku being twisty AF in later chapters, etc.

I love the plot of movie 2 SO MUCH. Like the idea of how it uses Tale of the Bamboo Cutter and Princess Kaguya as the villain, while also relating it to Kagome's situation of not belonging there and maybe being forced back home when she doesn't want to be? Brilliant. Naraku faking his death to try and get the ultimate power up? Noice. But it suffers from some glaring "Sunrise" characterization issues that ruin it for me...
First off the group just like... IMMEDIATELY split up?? Despite not having all the shards and how close they've all become as a little family, Sango and Miroku just instantly peace out. (Separate to even each other?? Someone correct me if I'm wrong but weren't they already engaged by this point??) Even if they didn't immediately go seeking out more shards, I have a really hard time seeing them all just... part ways. Relax for a bit, sure. But the narrative paints it as them not really planning on coming back, since Inuyasha's shocked to see them later. Kagura and Kanna finally being free and Kagura just instantly decides to serve someone else because... idk, she said it'd level up her freedom somehow? I assume Kanna was still being manipulated by Naraku, but Kagura going along with it made no sense. Kikyou being tasked with a little girl's dying wish to protect this super important object and then IMMEDIATELY giving it to the enemy is so fucking funny in the absolute worst way. X_X It's never even elaborated on, that's her ONLY role in the movie. And then there's the worst offender, which is Inuyasha himself. The writers still have him clinging on to the "I wanna become full demon" narrative, which was dead and buried by this point in the story. Inuyasha had already vowed to never use the Jewel and instead break its bloody cycle (manga only scene unfortunately) had already been cautioned by Miroku about potentially losing his mind and devouring Kagome instead of being better able to protect her, and then had that nightmare proved true after blacking out and slaughtering the bandits with his transformation and explicitly telling Toutousai that he doesn't ever wanna transform again - hence why he overcame the heavy Tessaiga in a whole-ass metaphor for accepting himself as a hanyou and getting stronger AS A HANYOU. But then Sunrise decided "nah screw that character development, he's still thinking about it." I love Kagome yelling "I love you as a hanyou" as much as the next fangirl but it just shouldn't have been on the table in the first place. In fact, y'know what would have been great? Movie 2's plot with movie 1's characterization and InuKag moment of "I need you, Kagome." Double down on that returning to the moon (metaphor for Kagome's time) conundrum and Inuyasha and Kagome BOTH worrying over whether Kagome stays there once her purpose is complete, or if she'll have to pick a time. I know the manga wasn't complete back then but imagine that A+ foreshadowing. idk, just shower thoughts I had today. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk and all that. InuKag deserved a kiss outside of weird timings!

I apologise for asking this if it isn't something you want to talk about but do you know why there is so much hatred for Kagura from so many S*ssr*n shippers/HnY fans? I haven't seen HnY because I don't like sequels that take away the happy ending of the original so I only know a few spoilers through the grapevine, but the Kagura hate I've seen lately from some HnY fans reminds me of anti-Kikyou Inukag shippers from twenty years ago. But Inukag shippers are more supportive of Kikyou nowadays and fandom in general is less misogynistic than it used to be, so I don't understand why another woman being important to Sesshoumaru in the original Inuyasha series is so unacceptable that Kagura gets hate now. Even if people ship S*ssr*n, love isn't a finite resource? Sesshoumaru loving and wanting to avenge Kagura doesn't mean he can't love anyone else, it doesn't diminish his other relationships—especially because Rin was a literal eight-year-old child when Kagura was alive. It's not like Kagura was a yandere type who harmed Sesshoumaru or anyone else he cared about, either, after a while Rin knew she had nothing to fear from Kagura and was squee'ing about Kagura being in love with Sesshoumaru.
Again, I apologise for how long this question was and sending it on Anon, I just didn't want to get hate from S*ssr*n shippers or HnY fans. Kagura's my favourite Inuyasha character, so it made me sad to browse the Inuyasha reddit/tumblr and see people calling her a 'manipulative bitch' and such when I went looking for fanart and fic about her. It's especially strange coming from people who praise other former villain characters like Sesshoumaru, who did worse things than Kagura when he was evil.
hello buddy sorry this is late i literally did not see it??
but since i'm obviously on the opposite end of the spectrum in this situation & have only really been involved in the tumblr iy fandom for so many years, the only thing i know about any of that drama is that she's perceived as a threat to their yucky ship bc she was really the canon love interest for sesshomaru in the og series. and kagura is obviously the polar opposite of rin in literally every aspect. like, we have a demoness that was born from the body of the main villain who comes out the gate swinging on koga's entire family & is forced to beef with the whole inugang constantly and calls sesshomaru a bitch to his face the second time they meet. versus a cute lil baby who's a complete blank slate. so for people that don't care for her bc of their ship bias it's pretty easy to misinterpret her character & motivations and draw silly conclusions lmao. i'm not gonna say kagura isn't problematic in some ways but LITERALLY WHO CARES it's not that serious?? pretty much everyone in IY has done morally questionable shit. it's a fairy tale set in feudal japan, like. and it sucks that you're coming across negative bs when you're just trying to enjoy yourself in this fandom!! that happened to me too when i first got back into iy in 2020 bc i didn't know that kagura was like severely hated until i joined an iy group on fb (owned by you-know-who, unbeknownst to me) and saw all that weird shit lmao. but there's a lot of really great creators on tumblr, at least, that are anti-sr & pro-kagura, so i hope that you could at least enjoy yourself on this blog!! <3

ROUND ONE BRACKETS
Are these brackets even readable? I dunno. Either way, here’s the bracket!
Matchups (randomly seeded) under the cut to make them easier to read. Each matchup will last a week.
The winners of each bracket will face each other in one final match to discover who is the ULTIMATE magical boy.

【Translation】 Narita’s Paradox and the Official Publicity of SessKagu
Information from three Weibo posts (see in article).
It seems rather paradoxical that Ken Narita first indicated that he felt Sesshomaru was and might only be compassionate toward Kagura, then disclosed that he struggled to properly interpret Sesshomaru’s love for Kagura while acting, in the very same conversation. (https://m.weibo.cn/status/4840906711107187). It sounds like Sesshomaru loved and did not love Kagura at the same time.
The reason is when Narita mentioned Sesshomaru’s compassion, he was talking about his own opinion toward Sesshomaru the character, whereas when he played his role, he was acting as Sesshomaru himself. Narita as a Sess fan likes the idea of Sesshomaru being alone, with slight tend to see him and Kagura together. When it comes to the anime he voice-acts Sesshomaru in, in the mentioned scene, the character Sesshomaru holds love for Kagura, and that is nothing Narita can or will change. To put it simple, it is Narita’s personal opinion that Sesshomaru at least sympathies with Kagura, but it was the canon plot that there was love from him to her.
Yes, it was in the official publicity that Sesshomaru and Kagura were a couple in romantic sense, just as the other canon CPs – Miroku and Sango, our hero and heroine (https://m.weibo.cn/status/4840929313167896). Before and during the running of Inuyasha Final Acts, SessKagu always appeared CP in the advertisement. That was why in the famous Yamaguchi-Narita interview they admitted that Sesshomaru loves Kagura. We can still find those official placards showing Sesshomaru and Kagura were in love with each other. Consist of these!
Tinge of romantic love, helping others, fighting, ridicle, TV series
Following the previous series, with cross and complex relationships, this time there is the feast of fight between those sometimes friends , sometimes enemies again! Moreover, the tinge of love and desire has reached the outcome…? A must – watch for fans!
Sesshomaru
The half-brother of Inuyasha, Travelling with Jaken and the human child Rin (the word “child” is “girl” in Japanese, but that Japanese word only refers to little girls, so I chose child to express it better.) for his own purposes. Seems to care about Kagura in Naruku’s side very much!
Sesshomaru journeys further in quest of his self. In the beginning of Final Acts, his relationship with Kagura is specially featured.
Besides, Inuyasha’s charm lies in the portrayal of each character’s feeling. Miruku and Sango, Sesshomaru and Kagura, and Inuyasha & Kagome/Kikyou, how each pair will feel and go. Stay tuned!)
(I hate the grammar here. I’m not joking. Please pay attention to your sentences even if you’re advertising! )
