The Guild System - Overview

The Kryptonian society is supported on the backs of their Guild System. The Guilds are the institutionalized method of grouping together jobs and careers that make up Kryptonian society. All jobs in the world are classified under various guilds and are overseen by a variety of Guildmaster Panels.

When Kryptonian society created The Matrix - used to prevent the worst of inheritable diseases and to intentionally activate selective genes - children began being designed to better suit one Guild or another. It was almost never an intentional thing but rather, the things that their parents considered desirable in their children were traits that suited one guild over another. This is especially present in the Laborer's Guild which is primarily populated with individuals that build muscle easily - especially in the arms and core.

Every major city in Krypton - both Old and New - have their own guilds where the population of each guild varies based on the area. They’re so important that most members of Krypton will agree that a city without a guild is no city at all but rather, a village. Whenever anyone moves cities, their previous guild will be responsible for transferring their paperwork to the next guild so that all of their history and information is easily accessible to any potential employers in the area.

Guilds have housing districts - areas that are reserved specifically for the safety and security of a family. Typically, a family will decide which Guild their family places more value on and will move to that specific district. Guild Districts provide public education, hospitals, play areas and daycares for younger children. 

To Old Krypton, a guild was your life. 

It was very rare for anyone to change their professions once they entered their chosen guild and if they found themselves dissatisfied with where they are, they merely swapped to a profession in their guild that’s close to another guild. Such an event would require cross-training in the second guild allowing them to survive.

New Krypton is slightly different, where the beginner ranks are the ones considered to be the most acceptable ranks for someone to swap guilds. 

All children attend general education until they’re about 14 years old, learning about the basics of their culture, their history and math. This is about the time where children are discovering themselves and exploring their world, making friends and creating bonds with each other.

At 14, the children officially enter the Guild System and become Rank 1 rookies. The Rookie Ranks are ranks one though four (1-4) and are meant for newcomers to the profession. This is when specialized education comes into play and the members are frequently taught the history of their guild, certain universal safety laws and of course, shadowing professionals. 

One you graduate from the rookie ranks, you enter the Experienced or Professional ranks (5-8). They’re the backbone of the Kryptonian workforce, consisting mostly of late teens and adults. This is the rank where you start being given actual jobs in the form of internships and co-opts. These ranks have no set timeline for graduation, and many individuals are content to spend most of their young adult years in the experienced ranks, allowing them to master the skills they’d been studying for.

The final ranks to graduate to are the Expert ranks (9-12). These people are highly regarded traditionally as consultants or those who’ve invented impressive creations for their field. They’re the ones responsible for monitoring and ensuring the skills of those who were part of the experienced ranks. It primarily consists of older people who’ve long since mastered the tools of the trade, teaching themselves certain shortcuts and tricks to make their jobs more efficient.

While 14 is the traditional age for children to enter the guild system, it’s not uncommon for adults to really impress upon the values of their guild to their children. Some kids are rather skilled and advanced in their lessons as a result and as they speed through their general education, they are recommended the chance to take the guild exams early. Such children are given a lighter load to participate in when they first enter the system as they’re still considered too young to put that sort of pressure on them. As a result, 10 years old is the very youngest any child can take the guild exams.

For a long while, Krypton made do with only one Guildmaster per guild, but in the days of the Kingdom of New Krypton, it was confirmed that it wasn’t safe for only one person to be in complete control of a guild. As a result, in the age of new Krypton it was decided that a panel of Guildmasters should be elected for each guild. There is now a minimum of two guildmasters per ranking system - a rookie master, a professional master and an expert master.

The Guilds of Krypton: Overall

Kryptonian society is based around the Guild System. Guilds are the collections of jobs and roles that need to be done on Krypton. After the Sealed Gates and the creation of the Matrix, most Kryptonians were genetically engineered to be in peak physical condition and the desired combination of traits their parents want from them.

While some of Kryptonians still have children the “messy” way, many use sex as a strictly recreational activity, considering genetic modification to be vastly superior to having a child the natural way. In fact, many considered it reckless, to allow chance to decide on your child - risking the child’s health when you could simply use the Matrix to ensure things like asthma are never a risk. 

Because of this, many children are designed to be physically suited for one guild or another. Children enter the Guild System at 14 years old, where they spend the year taking tests for all the eligible Guilds. In old Krypton, the guild they scored highest for was the guild they joined. In New Krypton, the highest score is recommended but not forced, as they want kids to stay involved in their culture.

New Krypton resulted in some changes to this dedicated way of life. With the destruction of their planet, the Matrix was lost to most of Krypton’s people (though allegedly, Kahl Ehl is in possession of a back-up Matrix granted to him by his father), Kryptonians were forced back into having children the “messy” way. Despite this, decades of their  lives being sorted by the Matrix have affected the way Kryptonians think - many of them borrow Manji technology to continue their tradition of modifying their children. While not as detailed and efficient as the Matrix was, it was detailed enough to allow for higher ups or doctors to make pairings with others by comparing them.

Guild Zones all have housing districts where people live, sleep and build their homes in a community of people who all dedicate their lives to similar things. Barring The Council, each guild is made of ranks and with levels within them. There are 12 ranks in every guild. The 12 ranks are broken into three sections:

Ranks 1-4: Rookies

Rookies are usually made of children, as they’re meant to be for newcomers and those who are still getting the fundamentals of the guild under their feet. Rookies tend to work in groups and spend less time doing official jobs and more time studying. As such, Rookie Ranks are often looked at as specialized schooling.

 In the age of New Krypton, it's also the ranks where it's most acceptable to drop out and try another Guild. While not common, it's generally accepted that it's better for someone to change guilds as a Rookie rather than as an Experienced member or an Expert. On Old Krypton, people rarely changed guilds even if they found themselves not enjoying the work - entering a guild was considered a one and done deal, and you just have to choose a job within your guild that you'd enjoy.

Ranks 5-8: Experienced

Experienced members make up the backbone of the Kryptonian guilds. Mostly consisting of late age teens and adults, the Experienced Ranks are when you start doing actual jobs. You get an official mentor, often working under the watchful gazes of upper Experienced members or (if you're lucky), Experts. Once you’re Experienced, you’ll rotate throat the sectors of your guild - you tend to perform the roles and work of 3-4 jobs, ensuring that you’re well-rounded and have some options. On Old Krypton, these jobs were selected for you based on your test results showing which jobs you had the highest aptitude for. New Krypton allows their members to choose their positions as they wish, although they will lean heavily on them to choose one that they have good scores for.

Ranks 9-12: Experts

The smallest upper levels in the Kryptonian Guild System. These are people who've mastered their craft and no longer merely follow standard and guidelines, but invent and innovate new methods of doing things. Experts are held in high regard for their skills in their particular trades.

Guildmasters

Guildmasters are the leaders and overall representatives of their crafts. Guildmasters are for the various jobs within guilds - such as doctors, veterinarians and firefighters - and frequently act as representatives meant to bring papers and concerns of the guilds to their Council Representatives.

While 14 is the traditional age to join a guild, children are observed by their family and potential guild mates while going through general education- as such, some children with exceptional talent at certain ages are given recommendations to take guild exams early. Such children are given a lighter load to participate in alongside their general education for up to 4 years of experience. 10 years old is the earliest a child can be recommended to a guild.

Kryptonian Headcanons

Theres quite a lot so i put it under the cut.

Something akin to a Caste system or “alpha/beta/omega”. Meaning some are born a higher caste and their biology reflect that. This doesn’t mean anyone is too above anyone else, bodies or biology are just slightly different such as muscle mass or appearance. Meaning some might have wider shoulders or slimmer hips, or even sharp ears like a halfelf in a fantasy setting.

This shows through ones “aura”, or things like how one carries themselves or how the primal part of ones brain acts and thinks. Things like appearance doesn’t have much say, as anyone can be smaller or bigger, it can only really be noticed through things like scent or “aura” aka the vibe one gives off.

One tends to be able to feel another caste just from their vibe, though its typically first noticed through things like clothing, as different clans wear different colours or styles, though its nowhere near as stark and different like ancient times.

Kryptonians purr, but it tends to be at a frequency only those with special hearing or other kryptonians can hear. Kryptonian purring like cat purring has healing and relaxing properties. They can also growl and chuff but that too is at a volume only picked up by other kryptonians.

In ancient times it was common to find a mate perfect for you, who fit you in every sense. It led to things like “the hunt” which was a ritual where the one who wanted to stake their claim, would chase the other, catch them, and they would bond. When bonded a deep connection was created by the two of more members, and it became as deep as being able to feel one others’ emotion.

This urge is much more diluted nowadays. When you meet someone who is compatible kryptonians will still feel it inside themselves, and if ignored for too long it can grow into a burning need inside their bodies. Though it can be supressed and even fizzle out if it is not returned by the other party.

But if left out of check the need and want can become borderline maddening. If kryptonians are not taught by clan or family from a young age how to deal with their primal urges it can become maddening, so when they meet their compatible partner, it can have effects. This can lead to the two or more being incredibly drawn to each other, or even lead to a rivalry like situation, if the caste standing is unclear.

It wasn’t uncommon for those of higher caste to have multiple partners, akin to a harem in ancient times. Nowadays harems are looked down upon but polycules are accepted.

As kryptonians themselves don’t sweat all that much, scent can be very important to kryptonians. This is also why a kryptonian partner might go a little coocoo from their human partners sweat and musk, as its much more concentrated than the scent you’d find on another kryptonian.

If you’ve read my fics you know I hc kryptonians as more hung than humans and able to produce a large amount of any bodily fluid at this point. This headcanon exists solely for my own pleasure.

Kryptonians can be much older than humans, meaning that they reach sexual maturity at an older age than humans, striking them in about their late 30s, where after they’ll be in their prime to have children until their 80s or 90s. But the first couple of years are the strongest, as they gain influx of pheromones that weren’t there before.

Kryptonians possess organs that you won’t find in a human. Like an organ in their throat and chest that allows them to purr.

Or what I dubbed the “sunspot”. Its an organ placed where youll find the solar plexus on a human. Its an organ that takes in the access radiation from the sun that isn’t used by the body. Normally the sunspot isn’t anything special, but if touched or rubbed by a kryptonians partner, it’s very sensitive as it will leak the radiation within into the kryptonians body. This isn’t dangerous for any non kryptonian. partner, don’t worry.

In ancient time the clothes of Krypton reflected this organ, leaving open holes or wearing open fronted shirts or dresses to expose the organ to as much sunlight as possible. But it became out of fashion later on, as the sun weakened.

Any gender on krypton can become pregnant, but seeing as natural births were so incredibly rare later on, it was pretty much forgotten. Its not that you can just go ahead and get a male kryptonian pregnant though, it would need the kryptonian to be willing and very into the idea of it. Think how some women want to be pregnant so bad they show symptoms. That would be the same for a male kryptonian, who would develop the needed organs for it over a period of months to a year.

That’s all I can think of off the top of my head right now.

hello! I’ve read different omegaverse fics and most of them seem to have different worldbuilding so I was curious about yours. In ASOH, do mated alpha and omega couple’s heats and ruts line up? Also how often do heats and ruts hit? I would also love to know if you have any thoughts on if any of this is different for Kryptonians. I hope you have a great day, I love your writing!

I actually think they start to sync up even before mating. The longer you spend near your alpha/omega, the closer your ruts/heats get to each other. Gradually at first, until they start to overlap and then sync. Mating would automatically cause them to sync, I imagine. And a shock heat/rut could cause a sync if it was strong enough, even while unmated.

In my head, ruts/heats come cyclically around 4-6 times a year. Some people have fewer, some more.

Some things I think are different for Kryptonians: fewer annual heats/ruts (possibly leading to repopulation issues back on Krypton), longer knots during ruts/heats, more likely to experience mini ruts/heats during pregnancy to encourage healthy progression. Just a lot of adaptive instincts and physical changes to try and address fewer pregnancies in the last few generations on Krypton.

misc worldbuilding scraps that are currently rotating on the back burner:

(omegaverse) human instinct relies on scent > hearing > taste > sight to find compatible partners, kryptonian instincts lean on sight > hearing > scent > taste, hence the mating markings

omegaverse humans have a much higher degree of face blindness than we normal humans do lmao

helps clark pass, the more he pulls his scent back the more it fades away, clark kent smells so dull/insignificant/mild that it seems like he's got a medical condition (hypomyrodia). jonathan kent had this. when jonathan and martha found bby kal, he was scared and tried to match scents to the two humans who found him, which caused his kryptonian scent to quickly fade. a hypomyrodic pup would probably face high abandonment rates and low adoption rates, so it was probably a relief that two willing parents brought the pup in

kryptonians all pretty much exist along a relatively smooth spectrum of sexual characteristics and can transition somewhat like clownfish if there's a hormonal imbalance in their community. having zero (0) other kryptonians around does things to clark before he grows the fortress and is able to synthesize hormone stabilizers

humans meanwhile have ten major sexes because betas can be true beta, alpha-leaning, or omega-leaning depending on their recessive genes

poison ivy is x100 more horrifying in any omegaverse world. she only manages to zop clark though bc the pollen is enchanted. however it's enchanted to induce primal alpha hindbrain, which means something very different to lone kryptonians than packbonded humans

it would have been the norm on krypton to have one's facial markings out. kryptonians would pull them back if they were sick, or perhaps terrified... primal hindbrain clark looking around and seeing nothing but non-glowing faces, and it coming across as everyone around him fucking terrified of him

for the first few months of their acquaintance clark is like. im not sure what gender batman is and at this point i'm not sure its ok to ask (he can smell past the concealing patches to bruce's strong omega scent but the patches could also be doubling as, like, the equivalent of binders, could be that batman's gender is null, but he mixes in diluted alpha cologne, but that could just be for concealment/intimidation....???)

sun-powered kryptonians have a strong, distinctively alien but somewhat alpha-smelling scent (when they're not pulling it back) but barely leave any on people they try to scent with, and scents barely stick to them. when clark politely explains this to bb dickie hes just like well i guess ill just have to scent you for longer! and clark goes 🥺

at this early point in the timeline barry is the only known omega superhero so the tabloids are huge into superflash

anyway all that's just kind of fluff/details... the core theme i've been rotating around is overcoming real and genuine barriers to intimacy. the loneliness of knowing you're a square peg in a world of round holes, the necessary compromises of sanding away your corners, the joy of meeting someone who will stretch to meet you where you are. there's a fair few excellent fics of bruce uncomfortable in an omega's role and body, i want to come at it from a perspective where a xenomegaverse clark has to define what gender means to him, in the heightened roles of the omegaverse. we are looking also at layers of passing. when parts of your closet become your armor that protects but encumbers you, and other parts become your exoskeleton, which grow into who you are. we are looking at that comic about the orchid that has the pattern on it meant to appeal to an extinct species of bee. we are looking at compromise made of love and compromise made of fear. and we are looking at tentacles baby.................

1. How many works do you have on AO3? 10 on AO3. many deleted on FF-net.

2. What’s your total AO3 words count? 309,689 which is like, wow, not that much. especially given that one story accounts for 105k of that.

3. What fandoms do you write for? supercorp for AO3. i've definitely entertained the idea of writing for other fandoms, but haven't made it to an actually completed document yet. i've thought a LOT about writing for harlivy.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? Mrs. & Mrs. Danvers, Fidelity, would you forget me (do i know you?), i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart), and What I Do When I Have Writer's Block. i have writer's block a lot.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? i always try to respond to comments! i get that other people may not, so no judgment, but i figure if someone took the time to write to me, i can take the time to write back to them. it just seems like it fosters more community and the idea that we are all big fans, even just consumers, and appreciate artists of all types.

6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? i don't really write angst ending fics, but i've fleshed out a somewhat angsty 'No Way Home' spider-man AU that is pretty angsty.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? probably i carry your heart. faster than a speeding date is also the closest i think i've ever come to fluff.

8. Do you get hate on fics? it's not common, but it's happened. i try to remind people to engage with the content they want to read. everything is tagged on ao3. there really isn't an excuse to be reading 7 full chapters only to then leave a comment like 'i hated this.' then what are you doing here? and if someone is pointing out something they believe to be problematic in my writing, i do my best to fix it. i've had both bad faith and good faith comments, and i really appreciate the latter. m&m au is a bit of a tough one because the original movie is QUITE problematic. that's where i've gotten these comments the most.

9. Do you write smut? If so what kind? like many, i'm sure, i've tried. i'm not sure if i've succeeded. i'm really impressed with the skills it takes to do so. i think people massively underestimate how hard and vulnerable it can be.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? i have never written a crossover.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? yes.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? yes.

13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before? no, but i think that would be really fun.

14. What’s your all-time favourite ship? i've had a lot of ships that i'm going to list here: harry/ginny. snape/lily. jack/juliet. selene/michael. buffy/angel. buffy/faith. mulder/scully. alison/emily. santana/brittany. villanelle/eve. kara/lena. poison ivy/harley. adora/catra. i've never written as many fics for anyone as i have for supercorp, so i guess it would have to be that.

What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? there was this sex positive krypton/exchange student au prompt that i got so long ago, years ago, where i fell in love with the concept so much, i developed an entire original novel about it. the novel is absolutely a rip off of supercorp with different names because i didn't want to give DC my worldbuilding for krypton. i have about 60% of the plot written, but i am SO BAD at writing original stuff that i'm worried i'll never get it done. sometimes i've thought about just writing the god damn fanfic because at least then y'all would get to see it. i'm so obsessed with that story. it's absolutely insane.

16. What are your writing strengths? i've been told action and dialogue. a kind of "movie like" description or pacing.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? i'm going to say the same thing as the person who tagged me: Actually writing.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? it would be really cool! i just don't speak any other languages well enough to write in. i don't mind people who want to translate at all though.

19. First fandom you wrote for? harry/ginny. basic.

20. Favourite fic you’ve ever written?  eternal sunshine au. i wrote it in less than 30 days, which has never happened again. and i felt like, even though i didn't at the time, that it actually captured both the essence of the movie and supercorp perfectly. it's one of those stories that is so HEAD canon to me, that sometimes i forget none of it happened in the show. i wish it had. i was so unimpressed by the explanation of why kara lied to lena, even though the 100th episode dangled the potential of it so close to our faces. in my mind, i just erase that, like my story, and imagine my version instead.

The Noble Houses of Krypton

The Noble Houses of Krypton are a group of prominent and influential families that have had a lasting impact on Krypton and her culture and development. From science, to biology, to art- the Noble Houses have always been in the biggest pages of Kryptonian textbooks. 

By the time of New Krypton, the noble houses have long since lost any institutionalized power and have merely become names that hold a lot of weight. Despite this, during the time of New Krypton, while Kryptonian society is fragile and uncertain, many people have begun to lean heavily on the surviving members of the Noble Houses. This has quickly resulted in the noble houses adopting an Advisor role to the council. Some predict that the influence of Ndomibaha will result in the rise of the Noble Houses back into actual powers that work alongside the guilds.

The House of Ehl

The House of Ehl is one of the most well known houses in Krypton. As Kryptonian culture lent more and more towards science as the basis of their lives, they became a pillar of Kryptonian society. Unlike many other houses, the House of Ehl never tried to narrow down their focus. Having been the founders of the Science Guild, they had many familial lines available, and each branch focused on various aspects of science. Thought the Houses no longer hold any legalised power, the sway that the House of Ehl holds might as well be law.

Despite their usually dismissive and colder stance towards prisoners, they advocated for leniency and kindness for those who were raised in the Swords of Rao and ensured that everyone but Dru Zod were put into rehabilitation systems. The head of the house - Jor Ehl - declared that the House of Ehl would even look after Lord Zod when he was released from the Phantom Zone.

The House of Ehl was later decimated by the revenge squad launched by Dru Zod who slaughtered most of the noble house feeling betrayed by them. Most out members of the House of Ehl were murdered or they went underground, hiding away from the bloody tragedy that awaited them. 

The Noble House of Ehl now has only three known branch lines left. There’s hope in the possibility of more underground members but thus far, there’s been no luck.

The House of Vehx

Another prominent member of the Science Guild, the noble House of Vehx are nearly as fiercely dedicated to science as a craft as the House of Ehl. Frequently the two houses collaborated albeit, no official alliances were ever made in public to avoid alienating the smaller houses and associated businesses that would avoid both houses. While the House of Ehl had a relatively broad number of subjects, the House of Vehx focused primarily on biology and developing medical equipment.

When the House of Ehl was attacked by the Sword of Rao, they were among the first political groups to publicly stand with them and offered not just financial aid but shelter for those in pain. Despite the tragedy of the situation, this togetherness created a flurry of new ideas in the mechanical biology field.

They stood in favor of the imprisonment of former Lord Zód, acting as witnesses to the pain he caused the House of Ehl by providing medical records and assessments of each injury and treatment plan that was created.

The House of Vehx currently had 10 confirmed lines left as of the modern day.

The House of Zód

One of the more well known Noble Houses of Krypton. The House of Zód was the founder of the warrior’s guild and worked in tandem with the House of Ehl to develop defensive technology for Krypton’s people. In it’s final days of Old Krypton, the House of Zód faced two serious reputation blows. 

The first was the Lord Dru Zód rebelled against the Council and the House of Ehl’s new peaceful stances. Viewing the present rulers to be soft and weak, Dru Zód gathered a collection of loyalists to his side and broke away from the warrior’s guild. The Swords of Rao warred against the main Council for 10 years. Eventually the Swords of Rao were defeated and tried for treason against the people of Krypton. As the leader of the group, Dru Zód was exiled to the Phantom Zone for 30 years.

The second was committed again by Lord Dru Zód upon his release from The Phantom Zone. Falsifying remorse, Lord Dru Zód befriended the House of Ehl who had taken to housing him during his 15 years of probation after his release. He got close to Jor Ehl and his family. While Jor Ehl was speaking to council, Zód struck. Feeling that he’d been betrayed by Jor Ehl for not siding with him against the Council, Zód went on a slaughtering spree with the few loyalists he had left. Lara Lor-Van took their son and placed him in a starcraft, sending him off to a distant planet before Zód killed her.

The House of Zód is now considered a House of Traitors. It’s unlikely that the House of Zód will ever return to it’s previous respected and heralded position.

The House of Gin

The second of the two primary Houses of the Artisian’s guild and where the House of Vi focused primarily on textiles, the House of Gin worked on architecture and construction. They’re responsible for most of the advancements in building technology, working alongside many other houses to integrate all kinds of technology into their walls in sleek and efficient ways. The House of Gin was closer to the House of Ehl than their partners were although they also remained neutral in most house politics. 

The House of Gin was shocked by the actions of Lord Zod and provided the floor plans and building layout of the many bases they constructed for the Swords of Rao before they were revealed to be a group of cultists. Some part of them feels deeply responsible for the lives taken and lost during both assaults on the House of Ehl and stood alongside their allies in the House of Vi in favour of sentencing Lord Zod and his most faithful supports to max security prison in the Phantom Zone.

The House of Gin is fascinated by the interesting style of buildings that manji create and have begun to produce mixed inspirational buildings alongside their purely Kryptonian influence style buildings.

The House of Gin currently has 6 branches left although it seems a betrothal may be arranged soon which will create a new branch.

The House of Gor

The oldest of all them all, House Gor-Ir is sometimes seen as less prestigious as the first house to ever come out of the Laboror’s Guild. It was  less of a house in a traditional sense int he beginning, formed by two small families and their respective heads but after a long enough period of intermarrying, they were considered one. The House then legally declared themselves a house and obtained the title of Noble by backing and supporting the resulting smaller houses.

House Gor-Ir - much like the House of Ehl - doesn’t have a narrow scope of focus. Even the modern day house has four major branch lines with maybe two to three minor branches that spurred from each of them that each focus on various strategies. The House of Gor-Ir is a well known name and it’s often joked that anyone high ranking in the Labourer’s Guild has some form of Gor-Ir blood in them. The house itself doesn’t take the comments seriously and often makes jokes of their own about checking the family tree of anyone particularly skilled.

The House of Gor-Ir was instrumental in the building of New Krypton, teaching many of the older Kryptonians physical labour jobs that were once going to be replaced by sanitary and rescue bots. They’ve impressed upon the planet as a whole the importance of using their own hands to care for the planet. The manji themselves approve deeply of the house of Gor-Ir and trust them to ensure that the area of New Krypton doesn’t become over-industrialized like Old Krypton once did.

The House of Suli

---

The primary and most prominent houses in the Mediator’s Guild, the House of Suli has always prioritized the preservation of religion and other things of great historical importance of Krypton and her people. This steadfast documenting and preserving of documents in the world-famous House of Krypton (previously a world wonder), has allowed the people of Krypton to keep their history and culture. 

The House of Suli - though always respected - has shot up the ranks in importance to the people of Krypton, regarding the complete preservation of their home in the face of Krypton's destruction. It’s their work in preserving the old ways - even through the Raoist movements - that allowed the Old Gods to make their way back into the mainstream of Kryptonian households.

There are four branches left of the House of Suli though they are looking to expand this as four is a very small number of family lines.

The Noble Houses of Krypton

The Noble Houses of Krypton are a group of prominent and influential families that have had a lasting impact on Krypton and her culture and development. From science, to biology, to art - the Noble Houses have always been in the biggest pages of Kryptonian textbooks. 

By the time of New Krypton, the noble houses have long since lost any institutionalized power and have merely become names that hold a lot of weight. Despite this, during the time of New Krypton, while Kryptonian society is fragile and uncertain, many people have begun to lean heavily on the surviving members of the Noble Houses. This has quickly resulted in the noble houses adopting an Advisor role to the council. Some predict that the influence of Ujibayai will result in the rise of the Noble Houses back into actual powers that work alongside the guilds.

The House of Ehl

Easily one of the most famous ancient houses, The House of Ehl is fundamentally linked to just about every major advancement in Kryptonian society regarding the sciences. Every child born into the House of Ehl had the importance of science and technology impressed upon them from a young age, complex formulas and equations being drilled into them from toddler-hood. Though not everyone in the house appreciates being pushed towards the sciences, everyone there appreciates the importance of science and its importance in the world.

37. Do you research before writing or while you write? Is it fun or boring for you?

Before and while! Depends on the fic. A lot of times, "research" is just watching the show over and over again to get timelines right. My partner has become accustomed to know that I have a very specific facial expression when I'm watching Supergirl for research and leaves me alone when it happens 🤣

Research is often a lot of fun - to the point where I'll do it for no particular reason. Like figuring out the spread of electromagnetic radiation from different stars to try to explain Kara's powers, or looking up some cryptography or art history.

Much like daydreaming, the research is going to happen anyway. Some of it might make its way into a fic 😂

38. "This never happened" fix-it fics or "this happened but" fix-it fics?

"This happened but" fix-it fics 😌 I'm just constantly wrestling with canon.

One of the best compliments I received was on Echoes of the Forest, where the commenter said that I had fixed a scene that they thought was unfixable. The scene happened... but the aftermath was different.

13. Rate your worldbuilding skills from 1 to 10.

I'm not sure??? Part of it is that I mostly write in an existing world. I didn't make up Krypton or heat vision or worldkillers. I'm taking existing worlds and building on top of it, trying to find rational for how things work and occasionally adding to it, but I'm not building a new world. So I'll give myself a 5 until I give more worldbuilding a try??

How many works do you have on AO3?

Most are fics, but I do have a little under 30 fic covers hanging around there 😊

What's your total AO3 word count?

988 968 words! My goal this year is to crack the million xD

What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Fun fact, this top has not changed in years and my more recent writing habits mean it's unlikely to ever change at this point xD

S.O.S. Ecrits Avec De L’Air (aka SEADLA) an unfinished Tony Stark/Loki fic in which everything starts because Loki stops Tony from commiting suicide.

 We Shall Have Peace, a fic in which Steve Rogers comes out of an 80+ years long captivity to discover Loki turned the earth into a utopia.

Dots: 2-4, 1-2-3, 1-3-6. A fic in which Tony Stark is a university student, and Loki is his blind teacher, and they fall in love.

Wooer Wooed. A fic in which Tony Stark tries to teach Loki how to woo someone and ends up surprised by the results.

Corny Lines For Thanksgiving A fic in which Tony Stark sees Loki iand Thor interact from his office window and mistakes them for a couple.

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Yes! I like showing my appreciation and it feels more polite :D

What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

Say it three times and it will be done, in which Loki sends Tony Stark a very sad letter to tell him he's giving up on him and their not-relationship.

What the fic you've written with the happiest ending?

Oh shit, I've written so many of these xD But I guess I'll go with a top 3:

Clark Kent, of Krypton because it's one of the ones where the protagonist's situation changes the most drastically.

Once more, with kissing because the protag ends in what would probably be my dream configuration for any kind of romantic relationship.

All on my own because it's probably one of the more hopeful endings I have.

Do you write crossovers?

Rarely. I did write a Battlestar Galactica x The Walking Dead crossover once for a friend, but that's about it. When I mix fandom, I gravitate more towards fusions :P

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

I think I got maybe...three angry comments on AO3 so far? One was pissed because the protag hated his stepmother, another was angry that I'd posted negative meta on a ship, and iirc the last one accused me of making a character stupid because they didn't understand a word as a little kid who was communicating in a language that wasn't his first language.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I try my hand at it on occasion x) It's probably not the greatest but so far no one told me it sucked so we'll see how it goes in the future xD

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I'm aware.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

If I rememeber correctly there were projects of translation into Chinese and Russian for some of my fics, but I can't recall if they were completed or not xD

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No. I toyed at the idea but it fizzled out, mostly because of me.

What's your all-time favorite ship?

I honestly have never thought of it that way tbh xD

But my two oldest ships are Taichi/Yamato from Digimon Adventure and Hyoga/Shun from Saint Seiya. I've liked those since I was a kid. As in, I first discovered Hyoga/Shun when I was under 10 so.

What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?

I'm not going to answer that one, I don't want to jinx it xD

What are your writing strengths?

I think I'm good at dialogue and worldbuilding.

What are your writing weaknesses?

I struggle a little more with description, and also The Doing Of The Sex. Also I sometimes worry that I do the writing equivalent of same-facing my characters, but I guess it might also be because I have A Type.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

More often than not, saying "[x] said in German" or "[x] switched to Italian" is more than enough. It's clear, concise and avoids the two main risks of foreign dialogues: losing the readers who don't understand the target language and (if you're not fluent yourself) making a grammar mistake that takes readers who are more fluent than you out of the story. (Example: I've recently stumbled across a Band of Brothers fic where Liebgott used Sie to address Webster. Sie is a formal form of address, which I guarantee Lieb wouldn't use for his fellow soldiers, especially not Web, and so seeing it made be tick hard even if I didn't spontaneously understand the rest of the sentence.)

That being said! All rules are made to be broken, and I've written a fic that was intentionally in 3 different languages and another where a significant chunk of the dialogue is just em dashes with footnotes. In the first case, I used the script format and the language juxtaposition to mimick the sort of humor you'd get from a more fast-pace, visual medium like a movie or show (and also because I enjoyed the idea of a fic that was a bit of an in-joke with readers who mostly understood all three languages).

In the second case, I used the em-dashes (intersped with the few words the POV character understands) to force the reader into the protagonist' shoes, because the whole plot revolves around her distress and frustration about being unable to understand the language her family speak.

So, you know. Do what you want x)

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

It was a very, very intense plagiaristic fic for Lord of the Rings but with Harry Potter style wizards. I don't think it was very good, but I rememeber having fun with it.

What's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to?

For a long time, that fandom was Digimon Adventure but I've done it now so... non, for now, I think x)

That time I turned Superman into a Cthulu-style alien & then wrote atmospheric smut. This is one of maybe 2 or 3 fics that burst forth fully formed from my brain, written frantically in 1 night, and thrown at my friends/betas asking them to judge the hell out of it because WTAF. 🤣 I've never written tentacle sex/monster fucking before, I'm not sure I ever will again, but damn I love this one incoherently.

Cho Chang and the Jasmine Code

Before returning to help her former schoolmates in the Battle of Hogwarts, Cho Chang fought against Voldemort & his follows in a more covert manner.

Cho Chang, Victor Krum + many HP side-characters. War is hell, para-canon (is that a thing?)

I've never described myself as a Potterhead/rabid HP fan the way I am with superhero media & Star Wars. I was more interested in the world-building than the plot and was, therefore, very disappointed when there was nothing extensive about the other schools of magic after "Goblet of Fire." Also at the time, my bestie was into creating various East Asian HP magic so I jumped on board her crazy train and tried to play with how culture would affect magic the same way it affects other forms of research & technology.

D'Ancanto

Drugs. Multi-state gangs. Mutant-killing virus. Civil unrest. Plot to assassinate a racist senator. Just another Tuesday for Marie D'Ancanto, NYPD detective in the country's first Mutant Crimes Task Force.

Rogue | Marie D'ancanto + many other X-Men including Gambit, Colossus, & Jubilee. Fox-movieverse X-Men. AU-ish futurefic/canon divergence.

TW: drug use/abuse, someone causes the violent death of their friend, mutants as a blatant metaphor for racism/homophobia.

Parents shouldn't have favourites but, NGL, this is one of my most precious babies. I was gonna scratch the serial number off this sucker & try to shop it as an original series. Still might. Again, I wanted to worldbuild-- what does being a mutant mean outside of superheroes? How would your average mutant, passing or not, be treated by society in general? How would society organize themselves with this new minority? I planned for this to be a trilogy; the sequel, Rasputin, has HEAVY trigger warnings for sexual exploitation/slavery (with a suspicion that it could happen to a minor but it doesn't), kidnapping of a minor, terminal illness, violent death of sex workers. Probably my only dead dove.

A Flame in Two Cupped Hands

Six years and two thousand coffee cups separated Lois and Clark's first real hello and last real good-bye.

Clois. Man of Steel Superman. Coffeeshop AU with a side of plot and smut that's miiiiildly hot for teacher.

I really, really, REALLY wanted to love Man of Steel. Henry Cavill's Clark was hot, Amy Adams' Lois had promise plus they played with her being older than Clark. The whole Krypton society thing is EXACTLY my jam. But the more I went back to it, the less the story failed to resonate with my understanding of Superman. Which is one of the reasons we fic. 😁 This fic also goes to show I cannot write without plot. Even my coffeeshop AUs & porns get plot.

For more than 5 years, my writing dried up. Lots of different factors in there, both fan and life related. Then Black Panther: Wakanda Forever came out. And there was RIDICULOUS world-building, both expansions of Wakanda and the new society of Talokan, where colonialism never happened. I'm not of indigenous Mesoamerican descent but their history and that of my ancestors are so similar; EVERYTHING about Talokan resonated with me. I already loved Wakanda but add Talokan and it. Just. Was all. *Kermit flail*
