Welcome, New Reaper!
It’s been a while since I’ve played Grimm’s Hollow but I still remember it so well, it’s such a good example of a really quality free RPGmaker game and I really recommend it!!

Idk why but Timmy calling Lavender "Lala" makes me fucking sob:(( it's so cute and like kinda sad given the situation they're in. Idk it just adds another layer of familiarity that I wasn't ready for.

Here's some old fanart I drew of a little indie game called Grimm's Hollow, made around when a friend of mine streamed it via Discord.
Needless to say, by the end of it all of us were in tears. Not a game I would be able to stand playing myself, but one worth experiencing all the same.

Grimm's Hollow - Review
Grimm's Hollow is an RPG maker game published for free on steam and itch.io, and I really want to talk about it.
Grimm's Hollow tells the story of Lavender, a young girl that wakes up in an unknown place surrounded by weird people wearing skull masks, after a while, a big shadowy figure arrives that calls themselves Grimm, and informs her that she died and it's in limbo because her spirit wasn't strong enough to pass to the real afterlife and that all the people she saw are in the same situation.
Grimm calls all the people like their reapers, and to pass to the afterlife they need to reap ghost, who couldn't go to the afterlife because they had too much spirit energy, but lavender quickly dismisses what Grimm says and goes in search of her younger brother Timmy, who was with her in her lasts moments.
The game has a very chill vibe, with the music and the pastel colors, and it's also rather cute for the most part, with cute items, characters, and ghost designs, despite the grim theme going on.
The actual gameplay is very accessible, you can build lavender stats however you want, and with every fight you gain spirit energy, which you will then spend increasing a stat or getting an ability, the choice is yours.
Now, in actual battles, you will pick an enemy to attack and try to time your scythe to the middle of a bar that will appear when you decide to attack, dealing the most damage in the middle, and dealing less damage and being less accurate the further it lands from the center, you will also build special points with every turn, which you can then use for a special skill.
The game isn't that hard, but if I had to give you a tip is that stats like defense or attack are very very broken if you invest in them from the start.
Other than that, if you don't want to deal too much with the fights and their difficulty, at the start of the game you get asked the question to play the game on a normal or easy difficulty to enjoy the plot more easily.
The plot puts its attention on lavender and her coming to terms with her surroundings and reflecting about her life, it can get sad at some places despite being such a short game, and I didn't expect to get as emotional as I did with the endings, which there are 4 of.
I don't want to say much because I really want more people to enjoy this game and experience the plot as blindly as possible.
I really liked this game, and I honestly wish the developer makes more games in the future, they did such a good job in making this short game as enjoyable as it is.
So definitely go and play this game, it's free and very worth your time.
