~ op men and their pregnant wife: she’s mad at them - series ~
————————————
pairings: Sanji, Zoro, Shanks
warnings: misunderstandings, kissing,
theme: angst - fluff
synopsis: op men doing things to make you upset.
————————————————
Tumblr media
Sanji all day had been in the kitchen ignoring you for some reason. He was gone when you woke up this morning and every time you tried to talk to him about something he would walk out the room or start a conversation with someone else.
You found out you were four months pregnant a month ago from Chopper who urged you to tell Sanji immediately but every time you tried the timing wasn’t right. But today you felt the need to finally just tell him.
You were all sitting at dinner together and being as petty as he was Sanji sat in between Robin and Nami, you just couldn’t stop them. Your tears started to fall, you dropped your fork out of shook while trying to clean your face but it didn’t go unnoticed.
“Oh no, what’s wrong Y/n? I get it, Sanjis food makes me want to cry sometimes too.” Luffy said stuffing his face with the food that you didn’t eat, Sanji looked like his was ready to jump up and fight Luffy but you just smiled. “Is it the baby?” Chopper whispered in your ear but being the reindeer that he is everyone heard what he said.
“I-I’m sorry Sanji if I upset you.” You wiped your face while standing up and excusing yourself out of the kitchen to go downstairs below deck by the fish tank. The one place that could calm you down, even though you apologized you were even more pissed off than you were sad.
Everyone was still sitting at the table at a stand still except for Luffy of course. He wasn’t maying attention and was only eating but Tobin spoke up out of curiosity. “I’ve been noticing something’s with her lately, like the lack of skin she’s been showing, so it’s because of a baby? Huh. Makes sense.”
Are you that bad of a girlfriend that even the sweetest man on the earth could be upset with you? More tears fell as you cried into yourself while keeping your arms wrapped around your stomach. Footsteps could be heard infront of you but you couldn’t be bothered to look at him, you knew exactly who it was.
His arms pulled you forcefully into his chest as he placed a long kiss on your forehead. “Let me go.” You said trying to pry yourself away from him but he wouldn’t listen, you were to weak from crying and not eating as much as you should’ve for two people. “No, Y/n I’m sorry. I overheard a conversation between you and Luffy last night and I was just so upset with myself that I chose to be petty and ignore you.”
You pushed away from him looking at him with confusion, the conversation you had with Luffy last night was over food. Sanji had made you a snack before going to take a shower and Luffy was trying to eat it, he kept clinging onto you and you said, “I don’t need a clingy man on me.” Sanji is naturally clingy so when he overheard you saying this to Luffy he took it the wrong way.
After explaining that to each other you both say there staring at each other until you started crying once again. Sanji started freaking out once you punched him in his arm. “I thought I really did something to make you mad at me, why would you ignore me l-like that-t.” You whined into his chest as he sat there trying to calm you down, he knew it was the hormones causing you to cry like this but it was still a hard sight to look at.
“I’m sorry my love.” He apologized once again and sat there with you until you fell asleep. He picked you up and brought you back into your shared room so the both of you could go to sleep cuddling each other.
Tumblr media
“YOU’RE AN ASSHOLE OF A HUSBAND, FATHER, EVERYTHING ABOVE YOU PIECE OF SHIT.” You yelled at Zoro who stood there with his arms crossed with an annoyed expression on his face.
“I NEVER SAID I WANTED TO BE A FATHER IN THE FIRST PLACE, NOR DID I WANT TO GET MARRIED!” He yelled back, everyone on the ship stood there frozen at what he said. You could already feel the tears brimming in your eyes so before anyone could see you break down you used your devil fruit powers to get off the ship.
You disappeared into town trying to find a place to hide and just opted on sitting on a wooden crate box in the back of an alleyway. Because of how big your stomach was you weighed more than the box could handle and it broke causing you to fall onto the ground. The broken wood pieces scratched at your body but that wasn’t what hurt the most, it was what Zoro said to you.
When you think about it Zoro wasn’t fond of being in a relationship with you either, you wonder why he even married you in the first place. Maybe it’s best if you just leave him to do what he wants, to be free. Just to disappear, maybe he’ll be happy if you do that. The log pose already reset so you were supposed to be leaving an hour ago, maybe they left already which would’ve benefited all of them really.
Not to have a pregnant crybaby on the ship. Thinking back on your argument more tears started to form and as they fell so did heavy rain. You were getting soaked but at least with this you can mask how hard you were crying. You basically forced Zoro into a relationship with you and now he was finally telling you that he wanted an out.
You fell in love with him but i guess he just felt sorry for you. The only thing that could be heard throughout the town was the heavy rain and a group of people yelling loudly. It was your crew, they were looking for you.
The rain was getting heavier and before you knew it your body was over exhausted and you passed out. When you woke up you were in a room and just from hearing the rain outside you were asleep for a few minutes to an hour.
Chopper had run back into the room with a bowl of warm water, he placed a wet towel on your forehead breathing heavily. “Y/n, please wake up. The rain was so heavy when I found you, I brought you to the nearest building to take care of you. You have a high fever and this may prove bad to the baby. If you don’t wake u-” you shifted under the blanket and chopper yelled out in happiness.
“We need to get you back to the ship now.” He said helping you stand up, you were still in a pained daze as he changed into a form to where you could lay on his back. He placed a blanket over you and sprinted back to the ship.
You still got soaked through the blanket as you both arrived on the ship, he took you straight to his office to get your fever down. “Sanji, can you bring some soup for Y/n for when she wakes up.” He immediately started cooking something to your liking, when you finally woke back up Chopper forced you to take some prenatal medicine then forced you to eat something.
“Thank you Chopper. Do you think I could speak with Luffy?” He nodded and ran to go get their captain, Luffy showed up worried for you condition but faltered when he saw your expression. The bowl of soup laid in your lap as you looked up at him with teary eyes. “I think it’s my time to go Luffy.” “What?” He asked in confusion.
“With me about to have a baby and being useless for your crew-” Luffy gripped your shoulders urging you to look at him. “DON’T SAY THINGS LIKE THAT. YOU ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO OUR CREW AND EVERYONE WANTS YOU HERE. Just because you’re having a baby doesn’t mean that you’re going to be discarded like trash. We all have been looking forward to a new addition to our crew, Zoro is just a dumbass who says the wrong things at the wrong times.”
He smiled wiping your tears with his shirt before pulling you into a hug. This was the first time Luffy was serious with you so you knew he meant every word he said. That still didn’t change the fact that Zoro definitely meant what he said. Luffy stayed with you while you ate the rest of your soup talking with you about random things.
Chopper advised you to stay in his office so that he could check on you for the next couple of days and as you laid on your side reading a book the door opened. Thinking it was Chopper you ignored it but the large hand that rubbed the back of your thigh grabbed your attention.
“Y/n, I don’t expect you to talk to me but atleast listen to what I have to say.” You closed the book and set it down back where it was on Choppers desk, closing your eyes you laid there waiting for him to speak. “I love you.” He could see you visibly flinch at his words, “I know I don’t say it much but I do love you. I mean how can I not love you, I can’t even imagine my life without you in it now. Every decision I make I always think about how it’ll affect you.”
He paused and watched as you sat up leaning you back against the wall. Your eyes stayed closed but your arms were crossed over your chest. “I’m scared to have a child right now. We’re pirates always on the move on a ship, I’m still weak in many ways and I fear that I can’t protect the both of you. I’m sorry for what I said, I really didn’t mean it.” He looked down at your lap but your grip on his chin made him look at you.
“You are not weak. I don’t understand why you would even say something like that. I’ve never doubted you for a second in the field. Whose the one with devil fruit powers? Me, I can protect myself even if you weren’t here. But we are a team that’s why I know I can count on you to protect me whenever I need you. But this baby has the both of us as her parents and a whole family who loves them with everything they have. I love you Roronora Zoro.”
Tumblr media
You were sitting on the deck in your sundress waiting for your husband to come out from below deck. It was your five year anniversary and Shanks promised to take you out on a date and to make the day feel special but as he walked out with your crew mates drunk on end you realized what was going on.
He forgot. He walked over to you dropping onto his knees and kissing your stomach while laughing, “Why are you so dressed up sweets?” You looked at him with an annoyed confused expression, “Are you serious right now Shanks.” He smiled wondering what you were talking about.
“Babe what is it?” He asked as you stood up walking back inside to your shared room, you locked the door behind yourself and changed into some more comfortable clothes. A knock at the door was heard and Shanks was asking for you to open the door for him but you ignored him and stayed laying in bed while reading a book.
You wanted to go on that date before being put on bed rest but he just had to ruin it, especially on your anniversary. He forgot and was acting childish in a situation you wanted him to be serious in. For a week you ignored him only letting the doctor in on his orders, “How long are you going to keep your husband looking like a puppy dog who lost his bone?” “Cause he did. He promised to take a day out for me for our anniversary, usually I let things like this slide but not this time.” You replied leaning back into the pillow as he checked your stomach making sure the baby was okay.
“Don’t leave him waiting for too long, he might bring the mood of the whole crew down.” He smiled leaving the room and you just laid there forgetting to lock the door, while reading there was a knock and you thought it was the doctor so you allowed for him to come in. It was Shanks, he jumped on the bed and wrapped his arms around your waist as his head laid on your stomach.
“Sweets I’m sorry. I promise I had the whole day planned out but then the guys brought on some new sake and I got distracted. I’ll admit I was in the wrong.” You rolled your eyes at his confession, he saw that and made a fake sad face while pressing his body against yours.
“Don’t do this to me. You know I don’t like it when your mad at me.” You scoffed as he tried to lean in for a kiss but you pushed his face away with the book, “You get nothing, it’s a fair deal. I got nothing you get nothing. Now go.” He started pouting and whether you wanted too or not he grabbed the book and threw it on the ground then interlocked his fingers with yours while attacking your face with kisses.
Giving in you started smiling and ended up giving him the kiss he’d been wanting for days. “I’m really sorry sweets, I’ll make it up to you. I promise.” “Mhm sure mister emperor.” He gasped, “I thought I was your husband…”

How ASL Bros React To Getting Married To You
Tumblr media
A/N : well, I reallyyy want to write a nice long fic but like.. life man. I’m on spring break and have work all week and with my sleep problems 😭 just enjoy this please c:
Summary : what the asl brothers wedding would be like.
-
Luffy
“Woah! You look awesome, [Name]!”
So cheery and wholesome.
Zoro is his best man, ( much to Sanji’s dismay )
EVERYONE is there, every single person he’s ever met is there so it’s crowded and you basically had it outside, in Foosha Village, though he wanted it to be on the ship.
All of the girls Luffy’s met is responsible for your appearance, they all helped you on your big day.
Some of the marines were invited, of course.
Luffy’s best mans/groom mans ( idk) ( other than Zoro ) consists of Sabo, Ace, Sanji, Usopp, Franky, Brook, Law, Shanks and Koby.
Your bridesmaids consist of Nami, Robin ( maid of honor ), Perona, Tashigi, Vivi and Makino. ( shirahoshi and others didn’t have too much room to stand by you because of the guests so they just sat in their respective seats.)
Before it officially started, there was a lot of tension so separation in seats were needed. Big Mom’s crew is sitting on the left back, Marines in the front right, Law’s, Kid’s and Shanks and other pirates are put in the right back, and everyone else Luffy knows is in the front right.
Few are still in shock because of the fact that LUFFY is getting married before them.
A lot of yelling and laughter from everyone is around but as soon as the classic music is playing in the background, everyone shuts up and turns to face the back, where you’re walking with Garp.
Old man Garp is the one taking you, and even he is full of tears from the fact that his own grandson is getting married.
“You take care of my dumb ole’ grandson, you hear? If he ever becomes too much of an annoyance, just knock him a few times in the head.”
And when you finally reach him, everyone is quiet and has the proudest smiles on their faces. Their Luffy is all grown up.
His bright, radiating grin is plastered and he is pretty overwhelmed but right now, you’re distracted by his handsome look in his suit.
Of course, he has shorts instead of long dress pants but he still looked handsome regardless.
Vows are said, rings are given and you smile at Luffy as the minister ( Sengoku ) questions your commitment.
“Do you, [ Name LastName ] take this complete fool, Monkey D. Luffy, as your everlasting husband and, future pirate king?”
Chuckles are heard, and you couldn’t suppress a giggle either. “I do.”
“I see. I wish you luck on this journey. Luffy, you may now kiss the bride.”
Claps are heard around as Luffy grins. “About time!” He cheers and pulls you by your hands, quickly smashing your lips together in a kiss.
“Congrats, Luffy!”
“Not bad, Straw Hat.”
“Where’s the beer? Time to party!”
“Alright, Luffy! Woo!”
Music is quick to break out as everyone is celebrating and cheering.
You and Luffy already cut the cake, ( it took you a lot of force to make Luffy not shove his face in the cake and just CUT IT. )
The giant cake made by Sanji and the Big Mom family, was shared for everyone and there was still plenty left.
And it was just a fun time with everyone. You even threw your bouquet(?) behind you already and it seems the next to be wed was Tama!
Clearly some of the women weren’t too happy to see the little grow becoming married before them but it was a nice laugh.
The night goes on and it’s getting late. Guests are leaving after wishing the two of you well and you two head in for your suite that Nami booked as her present.
“It feels normal. I thought this was some big special thing, why is it such a big deal again?” Luffy questions, forgetting what the girls had told him the several nights before about weddings.
You smile gently and set the last wrapped gift to the side with the others, taking a glance at the shimmering ring on your left hand.
“Because,” you spin around and face your husband, reaching over and taking off his straw hat that he kept on.
“It swears our connection and commitment to each other. Why do you think Shanks married Makino, despite their long distance relationship?”
Luffy offers his gentle smile, seemingly more relaxed at the mention of the two of the most important people in his life, out of many.
“Because they love each other?” He guesses calmly, tilting his head and you nod, giggling at his black hair that swayed.
“And I love you.” You whisper, leaning closer and felt Luffy’s arms enveloping you in a tight hug, his face nuzzling into your neck.
“I love you, [Name].”
And he leans back, connecting his lips on yours.
-
Ace
“Oh..wow..”
Oh boy, did the Whitebeard crew go BIG.
I have a feeling that Ace would want something a little normal or smaller perhaps, just inviting his personal friends and family, and maybe a few people he met along the way of his journey.
He’s a friendly, outgoing person but for a personal occasion, it’s best to stick with the people you’re closest to.
But he wasn’t complaining when he saw the large äss party, feast and the important people in his life showing up.
Sabo, Luffy and his crew, Shanks, Makino, all of his brothers, members of his old crew, Garp, he was thrilled to see everyone!
The wedding was held on Whitebeard’s ship, of course. It wasn’t too fancy or grand but still pretty large and the ship was right in the middle of the sea.
Ace is all dressed up handsomely in his suit, with the help of Marco, Vista and Izo. His hair isn’t too messy and just styled neatly.
You were dressed beautifully in your gown/suit, with the help of the nurses, Nami, Robin and Izo.
There was a bit of trouble with seating but naturally, many people stood up anyways and were quite busy throwing confetti and other things at you, even if it was a wedding.
Whitebeard is taking you down the aisle, it’s a little bit difficult but he still did, and you can bet he’s excited to have a daughter/son that will help watch over Ace’s dumbass self.
“Rough him up real good, take good care of my stupid son. And call me Pops!”
When Ace sees you walking down, he’ll admit, he’s teary. He’s actually found love, someone like him.. and he’s about to be married to you, the most amazing, attractive, and sweetest person he’s met.
You look so amazing in your outfit, he’s in tears. He’s so lucky.. Marco has a hand on his shoulder and patting his back. “Congratulations, Ace. You deserve this.”
Wiping his tears with his finger, he nods and exhales, holding the widest, warmest smile he could muster.
He was going to love you and protect you all of his damn life, that’s for sure.
The minister is actually Vista! Ace’s best man is Marco and his groomsmans all include Thatch, Luffy, Jozu, Izo, and Haruta!
“Do you, [Name Lastname] take this young kid as your loyal, lawful and everlasting husband?”
“Really?” Ace pouts at Vista’s joke and chuckles are heard, even yours.
“I do, Vista. I’ll make sure he grows.” You giggle as Ace sighs in exasperation.
“Very well. I now pronounce you husband and wife, Ace, kiss your damn bride already.”
“My pleasure.” Ace grins and he’s quick in pulling your wrist towards him, and spinning you into a dipping motion before connecting your lips together in a kiss.
Whistles and catcalls are heard as loud cheers and applause are made.
“Go Ace!”
“Alright, Fire Fist!”
“Better not lose her, Ace!”
Ace rolls his eyes at the comments from his brothers and pulls you back up with a smile. He’s a little glad he didn’t fall asleep midway because of his narcolepsy.
Party immediately breaks out, Sanji aids Thatch in the kitchen to bring out everything and it’s a long night of dancing, boozing and more.
Ace is just off with the guys, having fun and celebrating while you are off with the women, talking about experiences and such.
And when Ace finally finds you and pulls you two away to his room for some alone time, he pulls you close.
“Well, Mrs. Fire Fist, what do you want to do first?~”
His arms are around your waist as he secures you towards him, a cheeky smile on display on his face.
“Not sure, what did you have in mind?” Playing coy, you shrug and tilt your head, turning away from his face which he pouts and uses his hand to force his back to him.
Pecking your lips, Ace smiles again and leads you to his bed. “I have an idea, if you’re up to it?” He wiggles his brows, making you laugh.
He jumps onto the bed, pulling you with him so you were on top. “Well?”
“Oh! Cuddles, I get it! Sure, I’m tired anyways.”
Ace groans at you, heaving a sigh and he whines. “Come on, [Naaamee]!”
You just giggle and sit up, repositioning yourself on his lap and straddled him. “Fine, fine. You’re lucky it’s our special day today.” You hum.
“Oh? So you don’t want to do this after today is over?” Ace muses, smirking a bit since he knew the answer.
You puff your cheeks out at the thought of not having sex with Ace anymore, but you weren’t going to back down. “..Nope!”
Knowing the truth, Ace chuckles and begins to grind upwards into you.
“Alright, I guess I better make this a special memory to remember.”
-
Sabo
“You look incredible, [Name]..”
The most average, normal one. It’s traditional, smaller than most would be, and it’s for personal guests only.
So close members of the revolutionary army, his brothers, Garp and Makino were the only ones invited. If Luffy wanted, he could bring his crew but that’s it!
It’s traditional, so it was held inside a chapel, of course. It wasn’t anything special, everything was set up already and prepared for a small group so it was great.
Sabo is in a dashing, handsome suit like Ace was, but somehow has a much more charming, princely appearance. He helped himself in the appearance, with smallest help of Inazuma.
Your dress too! Somehow it’s more Royal appearing and your veil resembles a crown in a way. Koala and Iva helped you out in this!
Sabo’s best man is actually Ace! The strongest brotherly bond overpowered the thought of having Kuma, Iva or Luffy as a best man, but fortunately, they didn’t seem to mind, since they were groomsmans anyways. Iva being both bridesmaid and groomsman.
Ace was pretty teary and honored, and felt so excited.
The one who takes you down the aisle is Dragon. He’s a little awkward about it at first but he is quite proud of Sabo, even if he doesn’t openly show it.
“Take good care of him, alright?”
“I will.” You assure, thanking him when you finally reach the point of Sabo’s side.
The whole time, Sabo is staring at you in awe, feeling speechless. How did he manage to get someone as beautiful and wholehearted as you?
He can’t contain his wide grin and excitement, his hands just a hint clammy from the nervousness of possible rejection. But he knew you loved him. Because he loves you.
“Someone looks handsome.” You whisper in a giggle and Sabo chuckles. “Not compared to the beauty you have right now.” He winks.
The minister is actually Kuma, of course. Kuma was the obvious choice. Kuma took the position with gratitude.
“[Name Lastname]. Do you take Chief of Staff Sabo, as your lawful, loyal and everlasting husband?”
“I do.”
“Congratulations. I now pronounce you husband and wife, Sabo, please do the honor of kissing your bride.”
Sabo is the most natural approach, taking a step forward and cupping your cheeks in his hands and pulling you forward, for a kiss.
Cheers and applause are made and heard, and Luffy, being the brother he is, pulls out a loud confetti popper and pulls it, it shooting it out everywhere like fireworks.
“Congratulations, you two!”
“Alright, time to get drinking!”
“Better not let this get in the way of your missions..”
“Luffy, how’d you even get that?!” Sabo widens his eyes and he laughs. “Franky made it for me! He said it’ll be super, for the wedding!”
“Geez..”
You can’t help the laugh that escapes your lips and Sabo finds himself laughing alongside you and the whole place is soon filled with laughter and cheer.
It’s a small family party but it was still pretty chaotic regardless, and Sabo makes sure to take you outside for some fresh air when it becomes nighttime.
“Hey, feeling okay?”
Taking a seat on the bench nearly, Sabo sits beside you and you nod, immediately leaning into his shoulder.
“It’s overwhelming, I guess..” the warm smile that spreads your lips is contagious as he does the same when he sees it. “But,”
You take a look at your ring finger, that held the beautiful silver ring and diamond. “I couldn’t be happier with today. I’m married to the love of my life.”
Sabo smiles gently and closed his eyes, leaning against the backrest and let the moonlight light against his face.
“I am, as well. I couldn’t be any luckier to be married to you now..” taking your hand in his, he intertwines your fingers and brings your hand up to kiss.
He kisses your ring finger specifically and hums.
“Thank you.. for being with me.. I love you, [Name].”
“Of course. Thank you for being with me. I love you, Sabo.”

more than words
50 words; 50 sentences
ao3
#01 - Motion
A spinning kick, a swing of blade — the two meet and hit but don’t hurt, and Nami sighs exasperatedly at such a pathetic display of a mating dance.
#02 - Cool
Zoro stands his ground as his enemy — finally, finally — falls unceremoniously on his back, unconscious, and Sanji thinks for a moment that the sight of Zoro — wild and victorious and ready to take on the world — looks kind of, maybe, slightly cool.
  #03 - Young
Brook sees the two — dying to die for each other, the weight of their friends’ lives pulling down their shoulders — and he thinks too many people forget how young they still are.
  #04 - Last
The Cook is the last person Zoro would consider lending a hand in a fight — “who would want to work together with that dumbass anyway,” he lies whenever anyone asks, and doesn’t admit that it’s because he trusts Sanji’s ability to stand his ground, wholly and fully.
  #05 - Wrong
Sanji knows Zoro, like him, understands better than most — that this nakama thing isn’t just something you’d die for, but something you’d kill for, too.
  #06 - Gentle
Sanji manages to catch Kitetsu before it rolls off from the deck during a storm, and in that moment, Zoro knows, from the reverent way he regards the swords in his hands, that this isn’t the first time the Cook has wielded one.
  #07 - One
“Calm down, Marimo,” Sanji says with a dismissive wave of his hand when Zoro asks about the sword a few days later, “I’m not about to take your place as the ship’s swordsman; a cook doesn’t use his hands to fight, and I had a terrible teacher anyways.”
  #08 - Thousand
“I’m worth two thousand men,” Zoro grumpily says, almost sulking, and Nami can’t resist patting his head like she would to a little boy pulling the pigtail of a girl he has a crush on.
  #09 - King
You’re like the prince of Dumbass Kingdom, Zoro says, and it takes Sanji everything in him not to blurt out, Dumbass Kingdom sounds about right; wait ‘till you see the fucking king.
  #10 - Learn
Watching Sanji converse fluently with a couple of tourists in a Northern language, Zoro wonders when he will ever stop learning something new about Sanji — or if he ever will, at all.
  #11 - Blur
When Zoro finally comes to, the wounds from Bartholomeow Kuma is muted by Chopper’s medicine, a dull throb at the back of his consciousness; but the sharp pain against his heart feels raw still, visceral and razor-sharp, tucked alongside the ache of Sanji’s sacrifice.
#12 - Wait
“Wait,” he manages to croak out before Sanji flees the room, the word spilling out unbidden; he isn’t quite sure why, but he knows that he wants the Cook to stay.
  #13 - Change
“Have some fucking decency ,” Sanji yells, throwing a shirt at Zoro’s direction; the brute has been walking around the ship bare-chested like an eyesore ever since they entered the summer island, and Sanji is just trying to do everyone a favor — and definitely not because there’s a different kind of heat pooling at the pit of his stomach.
#14 - Command
Robin watches the two in amusement — Zoro could have easily refused to be Sanji’s pack mule, and she can hear him grumbling about it still; and yet, here they are, once again, together at the island’s marketplace.
#15 - Hold
Sanji is rough around the edges, bristling at the slightest touch; Zoro knows he needs to be gentle, but he doesn’t quite remember the last time he held something that isn’t a hilt of a sword, without meaning to hurt . It’s a learning curve.
  #16 - Need
Sanji knows Zoro is a dumbass, but it takes a special kind of stupid to think he would never be good enough for Sanji, when he’s all that Sanji has ever needed.
#17 - Vision
Zoro never regrets losing his eye, but he wishes, sometimes, he could still take in the sight of Sanji with an unimpaired vision, just to see more of him.
  #18 - Attention
“You’re starting a fight, Marimo?” Sanji growls, voice low and dangerous, and Zoro thinks, yes, yes, anything to get you to look at me.
  #19 - Soul
He loves the kid like a brother, but sometimes Zoro hates how Luffy can easily see past his gruff words and feigned ignorance; the way Luffy only needs to take one look at him to guess, “you’re worried about Sanji, aren’t you?”
  #20 - Picture
He carries around everyone’s bounty posters, Sanji tells himself, and tries not to think too hard about how the only one he kept in his breast pocket is Zoro’s, folded neatly against his heart.
  #21 - Fool
“This is the dumbest thing you’ve ever done so far,” Sanji says when they part, lips still tingling from their earlier kiss, because Zoro’s love is fierce and consuming and Sanji knows, ever since he was just a kid with the iron mask, that he doesn’t deserve any of this.
  #22 - Mad
“Don’t you ever say that kind of shit again,” Zoro snarls, slamming the wall beside Sanji’s head, his voice trembling with a kind of anger Sanji has never seen him with before — frustrated, desperate. “You’re important to me, Cook.”
  #23 - Child
Grow up and cast your dreams away, Sanji tells himself every day, the voice ringing in his ears; you stopped being a child deserving of a dream the moment you chained Zeff down to the ground.
  #24 - Now
Grow up and cast your dreams away, Sanji wants to tell himself, but the voice stutters, drowned out by the sight of the kid bleeding on the deck of Baratie — he’s a swordsman, too, acknowledged by none other than Dracule Mihawk himself — but a kid still, throwing himself headfirst towards the case of his dreams, steps unweighted by regrets.
  #25 - Shadow
Zoro doesn’t know which is worse — Sanji, forever running away from the shadow his brothers cast; or Zoro, chasing after someone who is no longer around to leave behind a shadow anymore.
  #26 - Goodbye
After Whole Cake Island, there’s a period of time where Zoro would follow Sanji around the ship like a lost puppy, unwilling to let the Cook out of his sight; Usopp definitely didn’t expect Zoro to have such a cute side, and crouches over his new invention to hide his smile.
  #27 - Hide
“We’re not doing that here,” Sanji hisses, and forces himself not to laugh at the pout on Zoro’s face; the galley might be secluded enough, but they’re still on the enemy ship’s galley.
  #28 - Fortune
It is annoying, the way Sanji keeps reminding Zoro that he could have collected Mihawk’s bounty and lived the rest of his life in wealth; especially when Zoro would trade any riches in the world just to stay by the Cook’s side.
  #29 - Safe
It catches Zoro off guard when Sanji starts talking about his mother; it’s a short anecdote, a single happy memory, but Zoro can tell by the way Sanji tells it — guarded and hesitant, like he wants to keep the words close and safe — that he has never shared it with anyone else before.
  #30 - Ghost
Usopp starts shaking like a leaf as soon as they enter the abandoned, dilapidated house, and Sanji gently tells him, sometimes the worst ghost is the one you create yourself; Zoro feels the weight of Wado on his hip, and agrees.
  #31 - Book
“I don’t need this,” Zoro grumbles with a blush, pushing the book back into Nami’s hands, trying hard to ignore Nami’s laughter and the words ROMANCE FOR DUMMIES emblazoned on the book’s jacket.
  #32 - Eye
Shusui sinks into the man’s stomach, all the way to the hilt, and Zoro thinks of the way Sanji curled into himself as the man landed a lucky hit on the cook’s hand. An eye for an eye.
  #33 - Never
“This is my first time,” Zoro whispers, head ducking away as he feels his face flush at the admission; but Sanji’s hand rests on his cheek, encouraging, and he can feel the curve of Sanji’s smile as their lips meet and Sanji replies, “it’s mine, too.”
  #34 - Sing
Luffy cheers when Zoro and Sanji comes into view, and he lets them take on the next batch of enemies; a good fight is always fun, but watching Zoro and Sanji fight is even more so — like watching a dance that only those two know the melody to.
  #35 - Sudden
“What, are we supposed to be surprised?” Nami says, barely looking up from the map she’s working on; Sanji sputters, face redder than the tomatoes he served during breakfast, and Nami feels almost bad for him.
  #36 - Stop
“But we — Zoro and I — how did you know?” Sanji asks, and promptly stops asking questions when he realizes the rest of the crew aren’t surprised either; who could blame them, when his and Zoro’s sexual tension can be seen from a mile away.
  #37 - Time
Sanji knows they have to break apart soon, just to breathe, but right now all he cares about is to taste as much of Zoro as possible — he has waited two years for this, and it has been two years too long.
  #38 - Wash
They have their fair share of fighting — and how, considering the amount of repairs Usopp has to do for Merry just from their petty fights alone — but what the crew doesn’t know is that they also have this thing, this quiet thing, just him and the Cook and a stack of dirty plates between them.
  #39 - Torn
“In retrospect,” Robin observes, “dressing up our dear cook in a maid uniform would not only lower the enemy’s firepower, but also ours, considering how distracted our swordsman has clearly become.”
  #40 - History
“Why do you keep him around, mister?” The kid asks, pointing at the old swordsman with three swords and an eye scar by the peer; Sanji laughs, pats the kid on the head, and says, almost wistfully — “you can say we have some history.”
  #41 - Power
Sanji tugs at Zoro’s sleeve, and Zoro follows suit despite his complaints — Sanji thinks, distantly, how much of an honor it is, to have so much control over such a powerful man.
  #42 - Bother
“I didn’t have enough time to make this three-tier ice cream cake for our lovely Nami-san and Robin-chan because you distracted me!” Sanji says with a hard jab of a finger against Zoro’s chest, and Zoro thinks, good .
  #43 - God
Zoro does not believe in gods, but there’s a hymn of a noise when Zoro presses his lips against the crook of Sanji’s neck, the hallelujah of the world breaking apart as their bodies move together, and he thinks, close enough .
  #44 - Wall
 Zoro slams his fist into the wall of Polar Tang, and is taken aback by the depth of his own frustration; he knows Luffy and the others will get Sanji back from Big Mom’s place, but it unsettles him still, the way Sanji hides himself under layers of pretenses when Zoro has bared so much of himself to the Cook in return.
  #45 - Naked
“What the fuck was that for , Mosshead?!” Sanji shrieks, justifiably furious, leg raised and on fire after Zoro sliced his tray into two without preamble; Zoro can’t exactly tell the Cook he did it because he was too surprised at the sight of Sanji in a swimming trunk and nothing else.
  #46 - Drive
Why Zoro , people sometimes ask, but the answer is easy to Sanji — nobody drives him crazy the way Zoro does, and is that not what true love feels like?
  #47 - Harm
Zoro knows Sanji will be furious ; but as he faces Kuma, knowing at least the Cook is out of harm’s way, he knows he would do this a hundred times over, a thousand times over, a million times over.
  #48 - Precious
Sanji is sitting by the corner of the infirmary, face pale with red-rimmed eyes, and Zoro thinks he’s never had that, before — people who would weep for him, knowing that he is more than dried scars and calloused skin.
  #49 - Hunger
This thing we have is dangerous, Sanji tells him, but Zoro doesn’t care — he already has a craving, the same way he needs a booze when it’s been too long, except he thinks that this vice will surely kill him.
  #50 - Believe
This isn’t faith; this is the truth, Zoro’s truth, the same way he knows he will become the Greatest — Sanji will find that elusive sea of his, and Zoro will stay with him until it is the last thing he can do.

"Picking husbandos for me has always been rather easy. It's asking the age old question "Where's the goofballs?" But finding my love of Zoro and Ace, I was still surprised that I fell in love with them."
Due to me getting 100+ episodes into a certain pirate anime, I just wanted to talk about the men in my life that were in this show. One of these men is kind of recent, like the last week and a half recent. But once I realized it... I was already in too deep. For the longest time, out of all the main four male characters I simped for Sanji. That was until last week I fell in love with Zoro. It sort of hit me upside the head during the Drum Island Arc.
I've always found Zoro to be this lovable goon, but hadn't fallen in love with him until recently. It took his antics during the Drum arc for me to realize that I was in way too deep (when he dove into the freezing ass water, tried bartering with Usopp for his warmer clothes, kicked the bad guys ass only to steal his coat) that I realized that I had a weakness for the himbo swordsman. He was just too cute for me to not love him. But at the same time he as everyone in the fandom knows has this power behind him. After I realized that brief scenario I had suddenly spiraled down this EPIC rabbit hole. After that I *loved* this dummy, I was gone too far. Zoro's personality just kept pulling me in deeper and now you've noticed my latest crisis. He turned out so, so, SO much worse than Sanji. But at the same time I realized that I didn't care either way.
But Zoro wasn't the only one, ooh no because that would be way too easy for me to deal with. No there had to be another himbo that stole my heart. That other himbo being something that is qualified as much more my type and that would be Portgas D Ace. Ace has quickly become everything to me in this series. At first I didn't really want him to be because I already knew how his story ends and it's the opposite of pretty. But he was just so cute, goofy, and he's voiced by Travis freaking Willingham, like Roy Mustang HELLOO?! What do you expect from me at this point? It was pretty much love at first sight for me. The minute that my best friend Gris encouraged that I did further research on the men that were coming I found that I had a problem. And that problem was only going to get worse. And once I got to him and it turned out to be so much worse than I could've ever imagined, I realized yet again that I didn't even care. All I knew was that was the love of my life and I was already in too deep to care. Just getting to laugh at his antics, scream with my friends that have watched portions of the show, and getting to just yell to the highest heavens about how much this man meant to me, it's been so much fun. That's part of the joy to me about having friends that have a similar tastes and interests. I never had friends that really encouraged this side of me before but once I did I found people that really understood me and I love all of them.

Rejecting Zoro because of insecurities HC
giveaway prize for @some-piece Thank you for waiting dear! Hope you like this!  Request: Marimo boy confesses and gets rejected [...] tl;dr she thinks Zoro been joking and even if not, then she'd only be a burden
2nd person. Female reader. Slightly angsty but hurt/comfort - Happy ending!
Tumblr media
Zoro often needed a second to understand what was going on. Usually it was because he had been asleep, too drowsy, or a little tipsy whenever something was being explained. But Zoro was by no means stupid. Once he understood, he was there with his mind 100%.
So why had he been breaking his head over what had happened a few days ago non-stop? No matter what options he considered, he could not wrap his head around why you had rejected his advances.
Zoro, dense as he was, had taken his sweet, sweet time to realize his own feelings for you, and even more time to realize those feelings might get reciprocated. The way you would subconsciously send him longing looks, only to turn your head away before eye contact could be established, the way how you never liked anyone touching you, but you seemed to make an exception for him. The way you never trained in anyone’s presence, but Zoro made you feel at ease. The way you would thank Sanji for extra food with a smile, and then just give it to him… the list was endless and it took three crewmates taking him aside for a ‘conversation’ for him to properly realize what was going on. It had taken him a while to get used to the idea, he was fully devoted to Luffy and his goal, but the more he thought about it, the more he realized that he wanted your presence near. No, he needed it.  So once all those steps had gone through, he confessed. Pretty matter-of-a-factly. He wasn’t one for elaborate planning and grand romantic gestures. Just you and him alone, a moment of silence and privacy where no one from the crew would bother you.  It had taken him a couple of minutes, having to restart his sentences multiple times to get the message across properly, his ears bright red by the time he had finally conveyed all his emotions properly.  You had been staring at the floor for most of his talking, and he could not read your expression at all.  “I’m sorry Zoro”  He blinked. An apology was the last thing he expected in return after his confession. “I can’t return your feelings”  And with those words you had pushed past him, leaving him dumbfounded and a little angry. Not angry at you, absolutely not, but at the few people pushing him to confess his feelings, making him believe that they would be returned. He felt bad for putting you in such a bad position, and hoped he hadn’t made you too uncomfortable.
But the following days you had avoided him, even though he had assured you that no matter the outcome, he didn’t want to treat you any differently. The crew had avoided him a little as well, and he was not sure if it was pity / anger / embarrassment. Whatever it was, he was growing increasingly frustrated and was eventually driven to the one person he would never ever ask for advice, but the only one that seemed to be available at 3 am, the moment in the middle of the night when he decided he could no longer sit on this mystery.
Sanji was in the kitchen, preparing food for the next morning already, and for once didn’t yell at Zoro when he came in.
He explained, calmly, how you had come in earlier to ask for advice as well when you got your dinner. How you were feeling down, how you felt like you weren’t pretty enough for him, how you felt like you would only hold him back and be a bother, how you felt… all-round not good enough for him.
Zoro was absolutely shocked to hear Sanji say that, nearly punched the cook in the face for insinuating you were any of those things. He realized just in time that it was not Sanji expressing those feelings, but you against yourself.
Sanji added on that previous relationships had made you afraid to even participate in any sort of relationship, and finished off his speech -and vegetables- by adding that if Zoro would choose to go after you anway, he better not fuck it up or he’d kick him off the ship.
Zoro didn’t even waste time arguing with the blond cook, practically sprinting out of the kitchen and barging into your room. In hindsight not the best idea, but once his brain thought of something, his body moved without giving him time to overthink his decisions.
You sat up sleepily, confused as to why you felt the cool night air on your skin and why there was a sudden weight on your bed. Your eyes grew wide as you saw Zoro sit there, and your first instinct was to hide or run away, neither of them possible as you were as good as trapped under your blanket with the way he was sitting.
“y/n, stupid curly brows told me how you think about yourself, he told me you were scared to disappoint me, to... “
he was obviously stumbling over his words, having a hard time conveying his feelings without even getting his own thoughts straight. He went on praising every aspect of your being, both character and looks, how everything was perfect to him, even though you may not think so yourself.
He kept on talking, you had no means of interrupting him, too shocked and too surprised, it was the most you ever heard Zoro talk.
“So … y/n… You don’t have to accept my feelings, but do know you mean a lot to me. And that I think you’re wonderful, and pretty, and strong, and even if you don’t return my feelings, I will cut anyone saying otherwise… because… because I care about you… a lot.”
You could only lean forward, burying your head in his chest, surprising the both of you, as you felt tears well up. It was completely silent as Zoro held you for a while, finally out of words, and you both understood there were no more words that needed to be said.
You accepted his feelings. You returned his feelings. And within due time, you’d believe him, but for now, you’d just listen. And that would be enough.

Why don’t you listen to me? Law x GN! Reader - Part 5
Spoilers for : Punk Hazard and Dressrosa arcs [No gender used for the reader, no physical description, everyone is +18] Words : 4547 Archive of our own Blood, exhaustion, fighting, violence, despair If you feel like I should put more warnings, send me a DM or an ask!
… Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4
Considering I was responsible for Luffy, when I saw him take off with everyone else after the plan was detailed on the shore, I had to take off with him too. I had to use my power more than I thought I would with how fast he was, but managed to keep up. When we reached a restaurant, I stayed out of the way even more so when they annoyed the man I knew was from the Marine, they did not seem aware of who they had angered but I was not going to stress them out and ignored it.
 However, when Zoro started running after some stolen good, I couldn’t stay out of it and had to catch up before he got lost. He was one of the strongest of the team and would do great damage in time but I did not know what to do. Stay by Luffy and make sure he’d follow the plan or follow Zoro?
By the time I made my decision and turned towards where Luffy was, he was nowhere to be found. “Fuck. Ten seconds of inattention and I’ve already lost him.” I looked around, desperately trying to see where they had gone. I did not even have a map of the place, the only one I had seen was Bepo’s badly done one that Law showed us on the ship. Even if the map was ‘good’ in theory, my memory wasn’t. Sighing, I walked out of the restaurant, making sure to pay for what had be consumed by the loud pirates and samurais. “There better be gold at the end of this stupid suicidal-mission because they cost more than they’re worth.” I mumbled to myself as I walked down the streets, dolls, puppets, and plushies were walking the same street I was.
 Those usually inanimate objects made a huge part of the population, it was a strange sight but there was probably something grimmer behind all of this. Their eyes looked almost… human. A shudder ran down my spine, I had to pride my eyes away from them to avoid being suspicious. “It looks like a huge amusement park, there should be a map somewhere, right?” I stopped by some sort of souvenir shop and asked if they had maps, the seller stared at me in awe, then back at something under the counter. When he looked back at me, he smiled and nodded, handing me the map.
 I was going to take it when his wooden hand gripped mine and brought me down closer to him, “It’s you! The King- I heard that the King wants to see you but…” He trailed off, his eyes gazing around in panic.
“Who’s the King? How does he know who I am?” I asked, snatching the map from his hand.
“King Joker, but it’s only a rumor… he says whoever finds you has to bring you to him, there’s bounty on your head,” then out of nowhere a knife was pulled from under the counter and planted in my arm, I grabbed the man/doll by the arm and threw him across the room before running out of the shop, the knife hit the ground and I scrambled to get it as I made my escape.
 I made a short detour to run by a stand outside and grabbed a black drape to cover my head better than the cap Robin had given me. I thought I was the only one of the whole crew who wasn’t known, but for some reason Joker wanted something with me. But I was not going to let him catch me. For a second I thought, maybe Law was right and I should have stayed on the ship, then I got back to my senses and ignored that thought.
 I was teleporting from places to places, to get off those streets and was now on the rooftop of a high building. “Right, maybe I overreacted. Maybe I could have just walked out of the shop, and play it off…” I pondered out loud, “But I didn’t, it’s alright though, I’ve got the map, I have-“ I looked at my right arm and saw the blood trickling down the stab wound that turned partially into a cut as I had pulled back from the puppet.
 “And I have a stab wound, nice. I’ll just,” using the drape, I cut a part of it with the knife and wrapped it tightly around the wound. I was no doctor, maybe it was a bad thing to do but I did not care. At least blood wasn’t dripping on the ground anymore, which means they couldn’t follow me.
 The building was not a high enough vantage point, so I opened the map and looked at it; Green Bits was across a long bridge that I could see from where I was, but it was very far away. Tucking the map away, I sighed and started making my way to the bridge. I had to pause every time to recharge, I was expecting to use my power a lot more than I used to but not for such things. I thought I’d be helping people out not running around like an idiot, but things never went as expected. I couldn’t begin to imagine Law’s face when I’d tell him I lost Luffy. He’d probably beat my ass then beat his, but, all in due time.
 I had this strange feeling in my guts at each of my jump. The closer I was getting to the bridge, the heavier the air seemed to be. The fact of the matter was that if anything was happening there, I couldn’t be of much help considering the lack of items around me. I had not taken any weapon with me, except the knife the seller had used one me. It wasn’t the sharpest but it would do the damage. The plan was to trade off Caesar to the Marines at Green Bits but anything could wrong from there one. If I knew something from experience it was to never trust Marines nor pirates, all were crooked and while one of them claimed to be working for the government, the latter was corrupted to the core. I had yet to come across a truthful Marine.
 Except that one guy that helped Law when he was younger, but once again… he was a spy among the pirates and I don’t know how I felt about that. I don’t know how I’d feel if one of my crewmates was actually a Marine. Maybe thinking the Marine would enroll a spy was giving our crew too much credits, we weren’t war criminals or anything… I think…
 I was brought back to reality when I heard a loud crash. Looking ahead of me, I saw the bars on each side of the bridge get cut off, then four big animals jump of the water to loom over the two miniscule forms on the ground.
 I hurried, recognizing Law’s fighting, he wasn’t meant to turn it into a fight just yet. He wasn’t meant to fight with Joker just yet, the plan wasn’t going as expected and I could see it from the desperate attempt to keep the Warlord at bay. Once I was close enough, I managed to get out of the large cut the blonde made, the fishes were cut in pieces and fell into the water with a loud plop. I looked from afar, needing the gauge if I could help, if help was even needed.
 Law was running head on onto the man in front of him, he wasn’t thinking straight, he wasn’t running he was rushing. The grin on the Warlord’s face did not put me at ease, and soon enough he blocked Law’s attack. A huge explosion ensued, I was left speechless, staring at where my Captain used to be. For second my stomach did a flip at the thought of him dead, then I saw him running away from the rubble and sighed in relief. He must have seen me since his eyes widened and he screamed my name, telling me to get out of here. I yelled back, telling him I’d teleport him but he told me to go, now.
 “What’s the matter Law, I thought you wanted to kill me?” Said the Joker. It made Law pause, and so did I, I watched. I observed how it’d end up, although I believed in Law, I could still very much notice he was at the limit of his capacity. He was out of breath, exhausted and clearly unable to continue. And yet he did, he tried to attack the blonde with the metal debris, only for him to slash them in pieces. I was going to sneakily grab him and get him away when he desperately went for another strike, I could see the bubble around him grow as he summoned his power.
 I was just as surprised as the Warlord, I did not know how he could continue to go past his limits over and over again, but I could easily tell it wasn’t good.  He exchanged places of Joker with a huge piece of metal and struck down with his sword, but once again he was blocked by the strings.
 Grinning, the tall blonde man sneered, noticing that Law’s power was at its limit. I was surprised to hear he had faced a lot in the little time we were apart, a meteorite from one of the marine, rescued Sanji when they fought the first time? What was going here, how long had he been fighting? I couldn’t think more, they kept exchanging hits, only in vain. Law’s attacks were all blocked, and when he was catching his breath, the maniac shot him down with string bullets which sounded ridiculous but that thought only lasted half a second before I saw my Captain on the ground.
 “Law! Let me-“ I cried out, but he raised his fist.
“Get out! Leave, it’s not safe!” My heart clenched at his attempt of fighting back once again, he tried to summon Room but it didn’t work, I looked away, fearing the worst but a phone rang. I turned around and look as Joker picked up his den den mushi and talked casually on the phone. There was another attempt from Law but he got taken down just as easily as before. When the call was done, he strutted towards Law, his walk more threatening than his outfit.
 He started explained how annoyed he was with this little plan of ours and mentioned that if he didn’t trust the Straw Hat, perhaps as friends even but that was left unsaid, then he couldn’t have planned something this big. When he mentioned me, I was startled and looked at him in shock, he was staring right back at me but Law ignored it and said he trusted the will of D. That was the words too many, Joker turned into a full berserk mode and raised his fist and was about to strike down Law.
 Seeing his state, I didn’t think, I reacted out of instinct and teleported closer to finally reach the blonde’s man back and try to hold his arm. He laughed manically and made cuts on my skin, making me let go of his arm but I was still holding tight onto him. It hurt a lot, but the adrenaline made me ignore it for now as I gripped his other shoulder tight.
 “Let him go! You fucking psychopath, you’re not fit for a King, you’re not fit for a Leader- You’re barely a man as it is!!” I rambled as I grabbed the knife from my back and was about to shove it in his throat when he laughed some more in response and took if away from my hand forcefully. I say forcefully but it scared me, the ease with which he used his power to open my hand.
“You talk too much, I should finish you just like I’m about to finish him.” He raised his arm once more, but this time made sure I couldn’t move mine.
 He did not hesitate a second more and started hitting Law over and over again, blood spurting around, grunts of pain following each strike. I wanted to throw up from the sight but did not let go of the Warlord. I couldn’t teleport away; I was gripping him tightly but if I let go there was no chance to find Law again. “You’re insistent, can’t you see he’s already dead?” Joker spat as he kicked Law into the air and followed the strings to get closer and closer, kicking my Captain further away at each kick.
 “Fuck off, I don’t care if I have to strangle you myself-“ His laugh interrupted me, but it quickly turned into the deadliest expression. I couldn’t see it full well from my place on his back but he wasn’t smiling anymore.
“Guess I’ll kill you both, the traitor’s bastard and you.” He scoffed and gripped one of my wounded arms, lifting me off his back with ease before slamming me into the ground. I let out a painful groan and swore the best I could, this was not ending here.
The air got knocked out of my lungs, I had a hard time breathing but I tried hard to roll onto my stomach to look at the still ongoing fight.
 The Warlord was stepping closer to Law’s body that was lying on the ground, motionless. The ground under him was crushed, I couldn’t imagine the pain he must be in. Slowly, Joker raised a gun and aimed it at Law.
A screech ripped out of my throat, I tried to teleport closer to him but I couldn’t. For some reason I couldn’t, I was fucking helpless. “Don’t! He’s-“ I coughed some dryness, maybe even blood, and placed my hands on the ground to steady myself. The Marine was there, I couldn’t stay here, but I couldn’t leave him there either. The so called ‘King’ ignored my attempt and cocked the gun. I could hear Luffy’s voice somewhere, he did not know what was happening but he tried hard to get any sort of information.
 “You’ve pushed it too far, kid.” Joker said as he aimed the gun well, before shooting one bullet. My breath hitched inside my throat, then I cried out Law’s name in utter horror. He couldn’t be dead, right? One bullet was alright, the King doesn’t look like he’s a good shot- but two other gunshots rang. I looked at the scene in horror before collapsing on the floor, my arms too weak to carry my weight anymore. I covered my mouth to muffled the sound of my sobbing but couldn’t tear away from the scene displaying in front of me. “Law…” I gasped, pushing myself up to go up to him. “Don’t … die” my voice was weak; I could barely hear it.
 He couldn’t hear it either, people were talking, arguing. A Marine stepped up in front of Doflamingo and was about to strike down Law when Zoro stopped it with his sword. I was silently thanking him with all my heart. After managing to stand up, I tried to take a step but fell to my knees. How hard have I been slammed into the ground? I’ve taken worse beatings, now is not the moment to be fragile. I scolded myself, pushing way over my limits and getting up once more. This time I was able to take a few steps but had to hold onto a nearby wall when the Admiral used his power and the pressure was back. I looked around; I couldn’t see Law on the floor anymore.
 My heart was already beating fast in my chest, I felt it hammer against my ribs, I was exhausted from so little and scared, scared for Law’s life and mine too. Perhaps Law’s more than mine. I heard Doflamingo’s voice in the air and saw him floating, thanks to his strings, along the Admiral. The King was carrying Law like a grocery bag, I wanted to get up there and beat him up but I had no energy. I felt pure hatred towards the man, and except for being the worst kind of scum all he did was beat up my Captain... for now. I hated being so emotional and tried to force myself to calm down, but my hands were shaking.
 I think the blonde said something that must have angered the Marines or maybe were they working together? Whichever it was, they started shooting at Zoro and Kin’emon; I was going to sneak away and hide when one of the civilians grabbed me by the arms and lifted me off the ground, “It’s the one!! It’s exactly like the picture- The king said we should-“ I mustered all my strength and got rid of them before teleporting myself to the roof on top of them, I barely made it through and was hanging on the edge. I had to bring myself up and doing so made it hurt everywhere. My throat was sore, my breath shallow and my arms wounded all over. But I made it and was now sitting securely on the rooftop.
 “Fuck this, I knew it’d end bad…” I huffed, rolling up my sleeves to look at the multiples cuts on both my arms. It was more sore than painful, kind of like a cat’s scratches but when I touched it hurt a lot more. Hitting my head against the chimney I was resting against, I groaned. “I fucking knew it’d end up bad, but I promised everyone I’d look over him…” I’m a failure, I scoffed dryly, my hands gripping my thighs tight. I was trying so hard to keep the tears in but I was alone, I was horrified, I didn’t know what to do. “Always making stupid promises… if you can’t even keep them, what’s the point?” I wondered rhetorically, feeling the tears roll down my cheeks silently.
 Hearing footsteps echo nearby I stood up quickly and jumped on another roof. I have to stay on the move, I can’t relax, I need to find the others. Wiping the tears away, I tried to hype myself up, even though I did not believe the words that left my mouth, I kept repeating them over and over again, “Maybe he’s still alive, maybe I can still save him, maybe he’s still alive…” But what if he’s dead? If he’s dead, I get over it. I’ll have to, the fighting is not over. Should I finish what he started? I’m not strong enough for that… I could become strong enough, I could come back later and finish Doflamingo. The thought made me giggle nervously, who was I kidding? If I came out of this alive, I wouldn’t come back here, I would never ask the Heart Pirates to follow me.
 I cared too much about them to force them to join me- Stop thinking that like that, Law is alive, get to him in time and he’ll be fine! He won’t be fine though he’s on the verge of dying- but that’s okay, he’ll come through he went through worse right? I let out a frustrated groan at the mix of thoughts in my mind, I did not know if I should be realistic or optimistic so I kept moving towards the castle. I had seen both the Admiral and Joker make their way towards that building, chances were that Law should be there too.
 After a while, the castle was finally in my reach. I was weary, drained and bloodied up, I no longer had the drape around my knife wound. When Doflamingo use his strings on me, he made sure to cut that too and now I had and open wound and tons of cuts all over my arms. Still, it seemed to be taking care of itself enough since no blood was dripping which was the bare minimum I was hoping for.
 Stopping at one spot in the shadow, I looked around to make sure there wasn’t anyone. It reminded me of Punk Hazard which immediately threw me off, I was very bad at sneaking around on Punk Hazard, maybe I was just as bad here. Out of the blue, I remembered something, Law’s vivre card. Shoving my hands in my pockets, I tried to find it amongst other things in it, soon enough I found it and looked at it, it was halfway gone but very slowly gaining back some of its life. A nervous breath of relief escaped my lips as I stared at the blank paper in front of me.
 I felt relieved but couldn’t waste more time, tucking it away, I kept my back against the wall and peeked inside the room through the window. I could see someone sitting on the ground by the door as the man from earlier, the Admiral, stepped in and seemed to be talking calmly to Joker. They weren’t paying attention to anything else, but the blond had a victorious grin on his face. But perhaps was his face always adorned with such expression? Since I couldn’t hear them, I looked around some more and realized that someone was sitting on one of the four seats in the middle of the room, at the heart-shaped one… it was Law.
 He was handcuffed to the seat, his head hanging low, beaten, bleeding, knocked out. I hated that a part of me thought he was still handsome like that, but the most logical part was anxious, how long could he stay alive in that state? I’m sure those handcuffs weren’t simple one either, they were made for fruit user. I was startled when Doflamingo tried to kick the Admiral, and moved to rest against the wall once more, I would rather not get caught.
 After a moment, I looked back and there were more people inside the room. Law seemed to be awake and from what gathered, they were interrogating him. When he didn’t answer, the girl in the maid dress slapped in head, I felt my fingers tingle at the thought someone laying a hand on him when he was in that state, but gripped the wall tighter. I saw something move the back and realized Luffy was there with two other people, one of them being a doll soldier. Relief coursed through my body at the thought of not being alone if I was discovered, not that I was aiming to be.
 My legs were starting to get weak from staying on the tip of my toes, on the edge of the wall. It wasn’t made to be walked on, but I was trying my best to stay balanced. I was careful not to look down, I was very high above the ground; One wrong move and I could fall down, which almost happened when Doflamingo slammed opened the window to overlook the city. He was mad, he was angry, he was more than infuriated. And I love it. I don’t know what had happened to make him mad like that but I was living for it, perhaps the plan was still ongoing and things weren’t as bad as I thought they were.
 Things kept happening, one after another, I had no opportunity to get off my spot until a large man with a missing leg jumped out of nowhere and ‘heroically’ cut Doflamingo’s head off. But it was useless, it wasn’t the real him, and yet I took that opportunity and leaped back inside, the thumping of my feet on the ground made Law turn his face towards me. When our eyes met, I felt all the frustration that had built up since then melt away and I stood there, holding onto the edge of the window. “You’re alive-“ I was interrupted when Luffy came crashing in with a woman in his arms, “Torao!! You’re alive!!” he screamed.
 That was supposed to be my line, but yeah sure go off, I guess. Luckily, they had the key to the handcuffs but the adrenaline and their over enthusiasm made it hard for it to fit the keyhole. And they said so, I was going to suggest I’d do it but Doflamingo’s double came back and everything went to shit. I heard him mention a birdcage, a grin spreading on his face, which was a huge contrast to the horrified look that painted Law’s face. The soldier raised his sword once more, but the Warlord was faster and was quick to get behind him and raise his foot, ready to kill.
 I threw myself over Law’s seat and pushed it to the ground as Luffy threw himself on the man, I heard his name being screamed by the Straw-Hat Captain and learned it was Kyros. While Luffy was fighting with the blonde maniac, I scrambled to my senses a tried to find the key to Law’s cuffs. Stress was getting the best of me as my hands were shaking, it didn’t stop me from patting the ground to see if it was around. I stopped when I heard Law say my name, his voice gruffy and filled with worry.
“I’m trying, I’ll find it, I swear I’m trying-“ Why was my voice so uneven? Why was I getting so emotional, it was just a key, I had to take a breath and calm down… But it was mixed with elation from knowing Law was alive too, and I had a hard time getting myself under control.
He said my name again, but even though I heard it, I didn’t really hear it. I overheard it, I was too focused on the blood pumping in my ears and my hands on the moving ground.
 “Look at me!” He said a bit louder this time, I looked up and met his gaze with panic. “You have to go, you can’t stay here, Joker he-“ Law bit back his words and gulped, it almost looked like he was getting emotional but I think it was his exhaustion that was getting the best of him.
“The birdcage, I know what it does. You have to go back to the Sunny-“
“I’m not leaving you behind,” I grabbed his hands, avoiding the cuffs knowing full well its effects. “I promised Bepo, I don’t care if I’m not part of the crew. I just…” His eyes were fixed on my arms, horror in his eyes. I pulled my hands from his and kept searching around the room, continuing in a lower tone, “I need you alive, that’s all.”
 Before I could find the key, the ground started moving once more. It was guiding us towards the open part of the castle, towards the edge, towards a big fall. “Fuck-“ I tried to reach out for something, anything to grab to avoid falling, in vain. We were all free falling, Violet was screaming, Luffy was falling head first, Kyros and Riku were scared shitless too, but Law could not see what was under him. As much as he tried to keep his composure, there was terror in his eyes and I couldn’t help him. I was useless.

So... I have this bad habit where sometimes, when attempting to summarize the idea for a fic, I go into waaay too much detail.
Like, I don't go as far as to actually wrote the damn thing because, you know, effort and laziness, but... Well, it's a close call. It gets to the point where it's less a summary and more what my friends use to call a Quick Fic. All that's .kissing is the actual dialogue and descriptive narration.
Having said that....
Here is a "summary" of an ZoLaw AU where Law works for Doflamingo...
What happened was, basically, Law got caught by Doflamingo after eating the devil's fruit which eventually allowed him to cure his dieses, thus why he's still alive. Or, at least, isn't dead from lead poisoning. Because let's face it, Doflamingo could have just killed the boy then and there. Sure, he'd have to find the fruit all over again, but better that the deal with this little traitor
Except really it was his brother who had been the traitor. Law is still just a child, and children can be so suspectable to any number of ideas so long as an adult gives them a pat on the head and a treat after.
Which is when Doflamingo realizes that he can just manipulate Law into being another loyal follower. Then eventually - when he's no longer useful - Doffy will have him sacrifice his life for his own immortality. By that point Law will be family, and family never lets Doffy down. Not anymore.
So it's under Doffy's personal tutorage that Law grows up, and as much as he might resit the man who imprisoned Corazon, it's hard not to eventually fall to all Doflamingo's sweet praise and promised. And Law gets what he had wanted all along: a way to get back at the world that willingly watched his home wiped off the official world map and would be happy to see the entire town dead to the very last one. This Law truly earns his title Surgeon of Death, acting as the top officer of Hearts in the Doflamingo crime family. And yet despite his cruelty, he isn't even on the government's wanted list; protected under the Shichibukai's jolly roger.
In the meantime, the Strawhats are still doing their thing right on through Punk Hazard (which they somehow manage to not only live through but actually do more damage and cause twice as much chaos. The biggest difference is that Ceaser and Monet escape and Sanji can't perv out over being in Nami's body). So this time when they roll into Dressrosa it's less "backing up the plan of an ally" and much more "on complete and total accident" and "without a damn clue".
Yeah, basically they're the Grand Line's easiest prey.
But, hey, it works out! Well, no, not really. But Sanji does meet Violet, Luffy meet Sabo and help recover Ace's devil's fruit, and Zoro does get lost and require a magic fairy guide. Plus, hey, since they're not really there for any purpose other than that they happened to be passing by, it's not like they can't pull a dine and dash. They may be unprepared, but The Monster Trio can still keep up the fight until everyone is back on the Sunny.
A perfect escape!
Except no.
Because Luffy isn't totally ready to leave, not when he wants to know more about what Sabo is doing and help his new friend Rebecca. Not that they have time to debate the merits of staying or pulling a tactical retreat since at that poing Big Momma is on their ass. And that scary dude in the long black coat is still somehow following them, teleporting himself through the fucking air like wtf why is this happening now!? Nami is forced to make an executive decision: they're can't stay. Also, oh God oh God they're trapped and they're going to be killed and oh God.
It's moments like these you're almost thankful one of your crew members is a total maniac. Because in the middle of all this mess, Zoro just smirks, tells Nami to just concentrate on getting away from that annoying ass ship, he's got their other attacker covered. Which only makes everyone freaks out MORE because what is Zoro thinking: he'll be killed! ("Not immediately, of course. First they'll likely torture him for information, perhaps even kill him as slowly as possible." / "What? Why would you say that? That is not SUPER helpful to hear right then!") The Sunny goes into an all out panic attack. Everyone is yelling or crying or both.
Except Luffy.
Luffy who looks at Zoro, at the singing ship, at the dark power user trying to slash their ship apart, at the shore line of this island and the way it radiates a fake happiness covering Rebecca's very real pain. Luffy who just lowers his hat over his eyes and gives the nod.
Zoro smiles, and is immediately almost clobbered by a giant Chopper. What is Luffy saying? Don't they realize that is the same guy who almost took down Sanji, Zoro AND Luffy only moments ago? Zoro can't fight him alone! Sanji, more calm than the rest, lights a cigarette while explaining that he's not trying to stop Zoro from getting himself killed or anything, but Chopper is right. That guy was incredibly tough, and there's no way Zoro can do it alone ("Shut up dartbrow! You don't know what the hell you're talking about! I could take him down with just the two swords! With one hand behind my back!" / "He already kicked your ass once, Marimo! Or have you forgotten because of all the head trauma!?" / "The only reason he kicked OUR asses is because YOU kept getting in my way you damn weak-ass cook!" / "WHAT DID YOU CALL ME, IDIOT MARIMO!?") Franky tries to regulate the fight but he's busy blocking those deadly aimed slashes from hitting his poor ship while Brook and Kin'emon work on stopping the incoming cannon balls. Either way they're going to have to do something SUPER fast if they want to get out of here. Yeah, Luffy, we need an actual plan. We can't just send Zoro out to-
"Zoro", Luffy says and despite everything going on around them the deck of the Sunny goes really quiet. They all know that tone. "Zoro, I need you to take care of this until we can get back. I still need to kick Mingo's ass for a friend."
At the sound of his captain's no nonsense voice, Zoro is suddenly easily able to stand, shrugging off the pile of people trying to stop him from jumping to his death (and by pile of people I do mean the coward trio and Sanji, who is mostly just trying to get in a few kicks). He draws Wado, clutching the katana in his teeth and yet still somehow manages what you know is a smirk. It's a promise.
And like that, Zoro is launching himself right into the blue sphere of the battle.
A battle against one of Doflamingo's top officers. A devil's fruit user with a twisted heart and home field advantage. Needless to say, it does not end well for our hero.
—🧡—
Although, Law has to give his rival swordsman some credit. He has his share of fun toying with the boy, and despite never standing any real chance of victory Law can admit the strawhat pirate puts up a better fight than most. Far better than Law had been expecting from some one so new to the New World (supposedly he got Mihawk to agree to train him, but Law has met the Hawk Eye and finds the idea utterly absurd). Then there is the way his smile had just an edge of what Law could only call manical delight, even when it became clear he'd long lost. This greenhaired kid really is stupid enough to believe his captain will come back for him. As though he would come charging back into Doflamingo's territory a second time just to retrieve a single crew member. One who was not only crazy enough to sacrifice himself but couldn't even win the fight. At the same time the swordman's loyalty and faith - as misplaced as it is - is kind of... Adorable. Who knew someone could come so far on the Grand Line and still be so innocent?
Law immediately wants to corrupt it.
Thes other family members will whine tell you, Doffy has always had... Let's say... A "soft spot" for Law. He's spoiled that brat for years, is what they mean but don't dare to say. Sure enough, Law barely has to work to talk Doffy around to letting him personally see to the prisoner's arrangements. Doflamingo is a little suspecious at first (he can never truly trust Law, not after the Corazon incident), but he quickly dismisses it. He's had the Heart Officer's loyalty for years now.
Of course, when he sees the spark of interest light in his apprentice as they eye their newest spoils of war, he can't help but tease Law. After all, Zoro is quite an enticing young man and Law isn't the only one there who likes pretty things. They're so fun to destroy which - judging from the way Law shivers when Doffy runs a hand through thick green hair before yanking the boys head back against the wall hard enough to leave the young captive panting and dizzy - is precisely his protege's plan.
(Doflamingo also happens to know Zoro almost definitely had trained under Mihawk, and he would love to see his fellow warlord's eyes flash with barely contained anger when he learns how Doflamingo has broken his favorite toy. It's not his fault - Mihawk is always so uptight and repressed, it makes agonizing him too much fun for Doflamingo to resist.)
In the end, though, he knows when Law's determination is set. And for whatever reason the boy has decided he absolutely has to be the one to keep their guest "comfortable" while his captain makes up his mind on what he'll do. So Doflamingo only teases for a bit - touches a little, plays with the barely conscious boy kneeling at his feet, enjoys the way Zoro still has enough spirit left to try taking bite when Doffy's fingers trail to close to his bloody lips (oh, and, what a joy! Law nearly growls at the prospect of not being the one to ruin the boy!) - but eventually he stops his little game. He gives in, telling Law to have fun with his treasure. He is the one who took him down after all. It is only fair he keeps him.
Just try not to completely break the poor thing, not until Strawhat returns for him.
Law snorts at the very idea. This is hardly the first time they'd done this. He's never seen a single captain try and retrieve their stolen property (he has of course, but he doesn't remember them). He doesn't see why Strawhat-ya would be particularly special.
Before Doflamingo can come up with a clever, vague answer about Law trusting him, Zoro suddenly gives a bark of laughter that would have scared lesser men senseless. It only serves to draw the two men's interest back to their little pet.
Luffy won't come back for him, Zoro confirms, much to Law's surprise (he personally never thought Strawhat-ya would, but then why would the swordsman sacrifice himself so willingly for a man he has so little faith in?) and has Doflamingo raising an eyebrow in.... Interest. Zoro looks at both of them with no fear, like he hadn't taken a humiliating defeat and is even now bloody and chained up, helplessly listening in on these two infamous pirates talk about him like he is a mere object. Actually, if anything, he appears to be wearing a smirk under all that blood. Because he knows something they don't.
Luffy won't come back for him, because his captain knows Zoro doesn't need to be rescued.
To Law, this makes Zoro look like an even sweeter treat. Doflamingo is simply amused, remarking that perhaps their little pup has yet to realize the leash around his neck is shaped like a noose.
Zoro meets his gaze, steady yet daring. He promised Luffy that he'd take care of it, and so that is what he will do. He'll never go back on his word, especially when it comes to his captain. Something Doflamingo with his distrusting and fear-toed crew couldn't understand. So see, their plan to use Zoro as bait will never work, because Zoro swore to Luffy that he'd be take care of it. So he will. Luffy has enough faith in Zoro that he'd never believe anything less and would never turn around out of doing to try and mount a rescue.
No, when Luffy comes back it will be for the sole purpose of kicking Doflamingo's ass.
The mood darkens. In a flash, Doflamingo is in back in front of him, yanking Zoro forward by the chin. He squeezes hard enough to bruise. You can hear the cracking of bone as he explains to Zoro exactly how precarious his current position is only to grow second by second more frustrate by Zoro's completely lack of fear. So he squeezes harder. He slams the boys head back into the wall and starts smiling when he gets a since from the stoic swordsman.
Before he can do any real damage Law steps in, reminding Doffy that he promised him he could have the boy. And just like that, Doflamingo's whole mood appears to shift back to calm. He puts on his fake smile and let's Zoro go, even pets the boy's hair. Of course, he had promised. And he, too, is a man of his word. Something Zoro will surely learn in time now that he is one of them.
Zoro, now with blurred vision and the taste of fresh blood on his tongue, is smart enough not to answer. But not smart enough to lower his head or try and appear humbled. Lucky for him, Doflamingo decides the boy isn't worth it. When he turns around he notes the hungry way Law is eyeing the kneeling prisoner behind him. Which brings a crueller, yet more genuine, smile to Doffy's featurss. The Strawhats vice captain may act invincible now, but he's never faced Doflamingo's own Surgeon Of Death. As disinterested and put off as Law might usually act, the boy can be dangerously twisted. He's sure his top officer will break the young pirate down bit by bit - both literally and figuratively - long before his captain can come running back in to try and find him (and Doflamingo is sure Strawhat will, no matter what Zoro might think).
He leaves with one last reminder to Law not to completely shatter the infamous Pirate Hunter. No, Doffy would hate to see their newest family member treated so poorly, especially seeing as he has much bigger plans in store for the young Mr. Roronoa. Specifically, he wants to see the face of Monkey D Luffy when he watches as the last bit of his first mate's spirit broken.
And because Doffy practically raised the boy and knows exactly the right buttons to push, he decides to give Law a little extra motivation to bring Zoro to that point. Just in case that interest turns into something dangerous like longing or - laughable as it is - actual fondness. It's so simple, too: as he walks by he simply whispers how there is nothing like crushing the heart of unrequited love.
It will be such a treat, tearing Zoro from his captain, and watching Luffy realize he's lost his chance to love the other man, wouldn't it Law? What a truly tragic romance. It almost makes you hope the two of them at least had some time together. Law didn't happen to give them a moment along before forcing Zoro to throw himself into the fight, hmm? Just a small, precious second or so for the two to share a final kiss. After all, not even Doffy is so cruel as to deny the poor boys such a tender moment.
Sure enough, Law's eyes immediately narrow and Doflamingo can feel the jealousy rolling off him. Not because Law gives a damn for their prisoner's feelings - Doflamingo raised him better than that - but he always has had a possessive streak. Having taken an interest in the swordsman, he will hate the thought that the boy might even think of another or that Law won't be the first to possess him in ever possible way.
Doffy leaves with a cruel, deep laugh. He can't wait until dinner, when he may just happen to remember the rumours about his "friend" Mihawk and his taking a young green-haired boy under this wing and in to his bed. By tomorrow he suspects every part of Zoro's body will bare at least some mark that he now firmly belongs to no one but Trafalgar Law.

Law/male!so/Luffy in which their S/o can speak to ghosts and sometimes helps ghost. And, after some insisting by two very persistent ghosts (Ace and Cora), goes and finds Luffy and Law, and finds themselves wanting to stick around?
you have absolutely no idea how these two spirits found you, just that they are extremely persistent and are driving you crazy. so you do as they ask and find yourself standing before an ostentatious red boat, watching one stoic man watch another man in a straw hat bounce around like a fool.
you feel yourself developing a headache as the two spirits chatter incessantly in your ear, telling you to go introduce yourself. you have no idea how they’re going to react, but if the look in law’s eyes are anything to go by, you have a good chance of being murdered.
but you explain as clearly as you can, pressing your fingers to your temple as you’re inundated with small details only ace and rosi would know, and you watch law’s grip on his sword loosen even as his face pales. you aren’t sure you have him totally convinced, but he hasn’t slaughtered you yet, which you take as a good sign.
luffy on the other hand takes you at your word, bouncing on the balls of his feet in excitement as he chatters to ace like he can see him right in front of him. it’s a little less tedious than you expected to relay ace’s responses, and you can see the deep love the two have for each other.
usually, the loved ones of deceased people become melancholy once you explain to them about their ghosts. this is true in law, and you can’t help but feel a little guilty. rosi does as well, and asks you to encourage law in his place. you do your best, but you know he can tell it’s feigned. your comfort of him isn’t, though, and in your own way you’re helping him come to terms with it.
luffy on the other hand is completely unconcerned, and you learn from the others that that’s just how he is. nothing has ever kept him down, and even after ace’s death he bounced back remarkably quickly. he seeks you out a lot, usually to talk to ace, but it slowly morphs into discussions about pasts. he regales you with tales of his, ace’s, and sabo’s shared childhood and all the trouble they caused, and you find you look forward to the time you spend with him.
law is a little more closed off. He seeks you out to speak to cora, but they’re not the same as luffy’s conversations with ace. it makes sense, given the vastly different personalities, but cora is so lively that you really wish he were able to talk to law himself. you know you make a poor substitute, and you know law thinks so too. you begin to dread whenever he comes to you, until one night he apologizes. he knows you’re doing your best, and he’s been ungrateful. he tells you some details of his past with cora, but you know he’s leaving out a lot of– probably ugly– ones, but you understand him a little better after that.
watching law and luffy is almost comical, because you can recognize the intense attraction they have to each other, but they seem entirely unaware of it. the way luffy’s smile, already so wide, threatens to split his face in half when law comes on deck can only be described as adorable. law is harder to read, but the way he watches luffy bound to and fro across the ship is softened by amusement, and he’s remarkably patient with the hyperactive man.
you feel almost at home with them and, when it’s time for them to depart, you almost ask them if you can go with them. but no, they likely don’t want you too, and it would be too selfish to ask. so you prepare to leave, saying goodbye to the others, confused by the subtle smirks they all wear as you do.
as soon as you get to law, he stops and stares at you knowingly. “i’m afraid it won’t be that easy, ___-ya,” he says, but won’t elaborate.
you go looking for luffy, knowing that he’s going to be the hardest to say goodbye to, purely because he’s the last person you have before you really have to leave. you find him in the kitchen, raiding the fridge, and his head hits the top of the fridge when you sneak up behind him.
“goodbye? what do you mean goodbye, ___? you’re gonna join my crew, aren’t you?” he asks, and you think your brain might have frozen.
by the time it restarts, you’re already nodding. luffy’s arms instantly wrap around you, his face nuzzling against yours, and you can’t help the skip of your heart at the motion.
when you emerge from the kitchen, everyone has gathered down below, waiting for your answer. before you can say anything, luffy yells out, “he said yes!” and the others laugh. you want to facepalm at his choice of words, and you meet law’s eyes again and you think you can see relief in them.
luffy is an affectionate man. he doesn’t care where he’s at, if he feels the need to hug someone, he will. but you note right off the bat there’s a difference in the way he interacts with the rest of the crew and law. it’s adorable, and you ask robin one day if he even realizes it. the look she gives you is exasperated as she tells you no, and then asks if you even realize he acts the exact same way with you. you flush red and stutter half an answer out, and you decide never to ask robin’s opinion on something again.
after that, though, you do begin to notice that he pays more attention to you than anyone else. well, except law. but that doesn’t make a difference because you find law in your presence more often than before, and he doesn’t even always talk to rosi. a lot of times, he’s just looking for a quiet place to relax and that just so happens to be in your presence. you like law a lot, as much as luffy, and that’s a little confusing since you know they like each other, but you know they also like you.
speaking of the spirits of those two clowns, since you boarded the boat, you’ve found yourself without them more often than not, unless they want to speak to law or luffy. sometimes, you find them trailing after their respective family members, watching in amusement as they go about their day. other times, though, they’re nowhere to be found, and you have no idea where they go.
there are a few months of the three of you circling each other gently. well, you and law do. you’re pretty sure luffy is just going with the flow. he doesn’t seem to care and will lay in your lap or law’s, or pull either of you into tight, octopus-like hugs before bounding off to do other luffy things.
you’re pretty sure law has feelings for you, and you know you have them for him. rosi encourages you to tell him, but you refuse. law isn’t uncomfortable with you, you know that, but there’s still a wall up that you haven’t figured out how to bypass. it’s enough that law joins you in the crows nest on watch, or in the kitchen at night for a cup of tea when you can’t sleep. you adore luffy, but you find law’s calm presence relaxing.
it all comes to a head one night when the crew docks and decides to wander the town a little before dark. nami, robin, and chopper head off in the direction of the shopping district, sanji takes brook and goes off to look for groceries, and franky takes usopp to go look for a parts shop. zoro, being zoro, stays behind to “watch the ship”, leaving just you, luffy, and law. based on the snickers and the quick brush offs, you think the others did it on purpose.
luffy is raring to go, and you and law are just along for the ride. he finds a bar that is doing a meat special and drags the two of you inside. you nurse a drink while luffy stuffs his face, and it isn’t so bad until another pirate comes up, hitting on you. law looks murderous, luffy watching carefully, but both let you handle it. you politely brush him off, telling him you’re with the other two, but he gives them a once over and seems to think they aren’t much of a challenge, so he grabs your hand.
“oi, ___, you don’t wanna go with him, do you?” luffy asks, and you’re suspicious of the tone of his voice. law is behind him with a white knuckled grip on kikoku, and you worry he’s going to take out half the patrons in the bar. when you shake your head and pull your hand from the other man’s, you’re quickly pulled behind luffy and shoved into law’s arms.
you try to scramble back, apologizing, but law won’t let go. luffy is shielding you with his arms crossed. “he said no, now go away. you’re interrupting our date,” and there’s no way he doesn’t mean the three of you.
you almost choke, and the way law tenses says he wasn’t aware either, but neither of you say a word, just looking at each other with mild curiosity. the other pirate shuffles off, whether because he realized it wasn’t worth a fight or to bide his time, you weren’t sure, nor did you care. luffy turns back to you with a wide smile, and you can’t tell if it’s calculated or not because, knowing him he could really be oblivious to how a date worked.
when you get back to the ship, law pulls you off to the side while luffy wanders into the kitchen to pester sanji for a snack. he looks at you seriously and asks, “are you okay with that?” he hesitates before rephrasing, not even allowing you to answer the first question. “would you be okay with that? i’m not sure if luffy actually understands that he has to ask first, but it’s out there now. do you want to try with the three of us?”
you’re definitely at a loss for words for a few moments but then nod, laughing as you ask if you should bring it up with luffy. law shakes his head, wearing an amused smirk. “we’ll just let him figure it out for himself,” he says before pulling you close. “can i kiss you, ___-ya?”
you nod and his lips, chapped and rough, cover yours– just in time for luffy to burst out of the kitchen and onto the deck in front of you.
“no fair, tra, i wanted to kiss him first,” luffy says and quickly snatches you from law, who glares fiercely at him.
“maybe you should ask if he wants to, luffy,” law points out, but he’s relaxed, amused even, watching your head swivel back and forth between them.
luffy turns back to you with a puppy dog look. “can i, ___? please.” you nod without really thinking about it, and then lips are slammed on yours. He isn’t very graceful, and you can feel his teeth clack against yours. you can hear law laughing in the background and, when luffy pulls back, you’re enveloped in another set of arms and law doesn’t even ask if he can kiss luffy, but it doesn’t even matter because luffy was already reaching out to him.
ace and cora had the decency to remain silent right up until then before bursting out into whoops, doing some stupid dance in celebration for the three of you finally figuring your shit out. they’re quickly silenced when you rat them out to the other two, who start scolding the air where they think they are. all in all it looks pretty ridiculous, and you start laughing, followed by the others until you’re all doubled over in tears.
luffy is the first to recover, and he slings his arms around the two of you, squeezing you both close. law looks a little uncomfortable, but relaxes when you reach out and take his hand. he isn’t quite used to such open and obnoxious affection, and would probably always prefer your quieter version, but he can’t deny that luffy’s happy optimism is infectious.
nothing changes on luffy’s part. he’s never been overly concerned about ‘personal space’ and you’ve gotten used to that. it’s even become endearing when you come back to the ship from a shopping trip and he flings himself into your arms or law’s, littering your face with kisses as he proclaims how much he missed you. law doesn’t take that quite so well, but he tolerates it long enough to make luffy happy.
the first thing luffy does that’s a big change is to buy a bed large enough for the three of you. it’s strange, going from sleeping in a hammock to an actual bed again, and even stranger is sleeping as a triad in a room full of other people. it’s tiring never having any real privacy, but you would rather deal with that than not having them at all.
generally, you and law and curled up together while luffy is splayed out across half the bed. that means luffy is never, ever in the middle. you tried it once, and you and law almost got kicked to the floor. law absolutely has kicked luffy off the bed when he gets too rowdy, and sometimes luffy just sleeps in a hammock and leaves the bed to the two of you.
overall, it’s a calm and open relationship with a lot of physical affection and quiet comfort. and to think, you would have missed it if you hadn’t listened to those two pain in the ass ghosts all those months ago.

In the midst of all the suffering, in one last effort, her eyes met his and she smiled. A sweet smile she reserved only for him.
(and as a reader kindly told me, I should be putting a side note of my babies being kinda OOC. I'm okay with it in this story, but so all of you know)
It was her blood pouring out nonstop and what it represented that kept him from thinking rationally.
If there was one thing Zoro was proud of, it was his ability to analyze any situation and be able to stay calm on critical occasions. Just like this one.
The difference was that he was doing quite the opposite of what he was trained to do because it was her blood pouring out nonstop and what it represented that kept him from thinking rationally.
Zoro's hands were red and sticky from pressing the wound on Tashigi's back. The bright red blood, the strong smell of iron and the sound of every drop running down his hand and dripping on the floor were starting to make him sick, his stomach twisting as if his body wanted to throw out everything he ate or drank in the past forty-eight hours.
It was her blood pouring out nonstop and what it represented that kept him from thinking rationally.
Tashigi was already in a half-awake and half-sleepy state, but Zoro couldn't, under any circumstance, let her close her eyes. One hand continued to press the wound to her back and the other held her face. Now it was the bright red blood, the smell of iron, the sound of every drop dripping on the floor and her face dirty with the fresh blood that was in his hand that made him sick again, but she needed to pay attention, she needed to look at him.
“Oe, four-eyes, don't you fucking dare to die on me.”
The words were harsh, but the situation was critical and he was unable to stay calm. With every desperate step from Chopper, every weeping from Nami, every yell from Smoker, every gasp from Robin, every curse from Sanji was making the swordsman lose his fucking mind. With each passing minute, it was as if all those noises were slowly muffled and only Tashigi's shallow breathing remained.
Her eyes didn't seem to focus on anything and neither did his. He could only hear her whispering disconnected phrases and every time Zoro told her to not be stubborn at least once in her god damn life because if she kept talking, more blood would come out and God (or any divine entity that exists in this world) knows he was about to lose all sanity.
“I… hurt… Smoker-san… guys… I…”
“For the last time, just keep quiet, four eyes. I’m just asking that of you, damn it. Can you fucking do this just once?”
Zoro really didn't want to swear that much, but all of his brain efforts were focused only on making that woman not close her eyes and, at the same time, continue to stop the blood until Chopper managed to do something.
After getting out of her stupor, Robin also started using Hana Hana no Mi to help him with the task. Because he only has two hands and no one was stopping the blood that spurted from the wound in Tashigi's chest.
Zoro was never a religious man and he doesn't even believe in anything divine, but what he wouldn't give now for his prayers to be answered. Please don't let her die, please, please.
But how do you survive a sword through your chest?
He doesn't know anyone who has survived. But who knows, maybe Tashigi will be the first.
Tashigi. Honored captain, defender of justice, admirable swordsman, co-leader of the Navy revolution, war heroine, daughter of Wano, Kuina's older sister.
The woman who has no regard for her own life if it meant protecting others.
The woman who just sacrificed herself to save his life and his crew’s.
The woman he argued the day before and said so many bad things was now on her knees in front of him with a sword stuck in her chest and blood spurting everywhere.
Tashigi was losing consciousness and was losing fast.
“Hey, hey, hey, just keep looking at me, Tashigi.”
She did, but he could see that her eyelids were getting heavier and heavier.
Please don't let her die, please please.
The lips that he wanted to kiss so much but didn't have the courage now were stained red and heaven knows how he preferred it to be lipstick and not death. Every time she tried to say something, she ended up spitting blood and his face was already soaked, but Zoro couldn't, for anything in this world, care about it.
Robin released him from the task of stopping the bleeding and he managed to put both hands on Tashigi's face to force her to look at him. His hands were completely painted red and he hated to wear her blood - hands, arms, face, chest, everything. It didn't suit him well and he was really about to lose his fucking mind.
She blinked heavily but was managing to maintain eye contact and Zoro let himself be hopeful. Chopper ran around, trying incessantly to control the situation, but the swordsman could see how his little paws were shaking and how his eyes were red from crying.
If Chopper said there was no solution, it was because it was the end.
Please don't let her die, please please.
Not her, please, please.
There was so much he still wanted to say, she couldn't leave now. He wanted to say good things, not the bad things he spat on her face. Instead of saying that she would never be as good as her sister, he wanted to be able to say that she became so strong that she became his rival and that he was so proud of her that the feeling couldn’t fit in his own the chest; he wanted to say that she was an incredibly strong woman and that standing her ground after everything she had been through in life was admirable, but instead, he called her weak.
He vomited so many mean words because uncontrollable anger washed over him when she volunteered for a suicide mission. Wano's war was nearing its end, but they lost so many people in so many bloody battles. Zoro did not want to lose her. My God, not her.
Death, take someone bad, not her. She's too good. Please.
He hurt her. It was the first time that Tashigi didn’t argue back and Zoro found it very strange. But if that was what it took for her not to go out the door and return in a coffin, it would be worth it. She might hate him for the rest of her life, but she would hate him alive.
"After all, I thought you didn't think that way about me anymore. Too bad because I don't think the same about you anymore."
Zoro never saw such sadness overflow in her eyes as at that moment. Not even when she told her story to the Straw Hats - and that sadness was similar to what he saw so often on Robin's face. But what she expressed right after hearing his angry words was as if someone was putting a knife in the swordsman's heart and spinning. She knows that pain now.
“Oe, four-eyes, you're doing well. Just keep looking at me, okay? If you keep doing well, how about I let you train with Wado or Enma? You are now like a sword goddess here in Wano, right? They all obey you, so what do you think?”, Zoro knew he was being a blabbermouth, but he needed to keep her awake and maybe talking about swords could keep her focused on him.
“Sandai… don’t… obey me… you… only master…”
“I know. You found her for me, remember? Do you remember, Tashigi?”
The swordsman looked at Chopper out of the corner of his eye and saw the little reindeer crying copiously on Usopp's lap. Then, Zoro realized that he had no solution. That was the end.
His heart just stopped beating and he couldn't think of anything else. His mind was empty with just a white noise in the background.
No no no no no. Please don’t.
Zoro was sure that he must be looking like a maniac, with extremely wide eyes, frowns and a completely unformed smile. Smiling might make her endure a little longer, so he tried, but it was in vain.
Tashigi could no longer lift her head and Zoro could feel the life being drained from her. He held her face tightly as if that simple act could prevent her existence from leaving this world.
“C’mon, four-eyes. Hold on a little longer…“
“Ro… ronoa…”
“Come on, there's still so much for you to do-”
He felt someone's strong hand on his shoulder, but he felt no comfort at all. This person didn’t want to say that everything would be okay - the gesture was asking him to accept and let go.
No, no, no.
“Zoro. There's… there's nothing else we can do.”
Sanji's voice sounded as choked up as his. Zoro was sure that the cook was crying and then realized that the blood that was running down his face didn’t come from an injury. It was his own tears melting it.
Tashigi spat violently again and he understood that she wanted to say something.
“G-guys, I…“
Zoro already had a scold on the tip of his tongue, but Nami grabbed his arm. The girl bit her lip to keep from crying, but she was failing miserably. She sobbed desperately in the same way as Robin and Chopper. Sanji, Usopp, and Franky wept silently. Torao watched with a frightened expression, not knowing how to react and Smoker did the same.
Zoro didn't even want to think about Luffy's reaction when he found out.
Over the past few months, Tashigi has stood by the Straw Hat by Smoker's order to fight on behalf of the Navy revolutionaries for Wano - her home that has been denied to her for so many years. The captain was extremely suspicious at the beginning of the alliance, but Luffy always manages to unite any type of person and Tashigi was no exception. She fought alongside them and for them.
Her courage seemed to know no bounds.
That's probably why it didn't take long for the crew to fall in love with her and consider her one of them. And being considered part of the Straw Hats meant that she’d have all the treatment that anyone in the crew did. It meant that they would all protect her no matter what.
So where did they messed up so that Zoro was holding a nearly dead Tashigi in his arms?
“Guys… t-thanks for t-taking care… of a weakling like me…”
Zoro couldn't believe the words she had just said. She was dying and that was what she thought? How idiotic were they to make this woman so kind to think that until the last seconds of her life?
“No, Tashigi-chan!!! Y-you're not weak!! If it weren't for you, this war wouldn't be w-won!!”, Nami screamed and with eyes filled with tears.
“Y-y-you're our m-m-mate, Tashigi-chan!! I don't w-w-want you to go!”, Chopper cried like a baby and it was almost impossible to understand what he was talking about.
“Y-you are o-one of the m-most brave person I have ever m-met, Tashigi!!”, Robin's voice was completely choked.
They all gathered around her, hugging her and holding her tightly, trying to keep her there, with them. Everyone hoping for some miracle, anything that would make her not leave them.
Zoro continued to hold her face while everyone cried and sobbed hysterically. In the midst of all the suffering, in one last effort, her eyes met his and she smiled. A sweet smile she reserved only for him.
She whispered with great difficulty, but no one seemed to hear.
Zoro did.
“I-I… I re-really wanted… to be more… than… a  copycat for you… Zoro.”
The swordsman's eyes widened and his heart ached as if it was squirming inside his chest. But no, he wouldn't let it be that way. He had been a coward all these months, never admitting any feelings for her and always admiring her from afar as if the mere thought of getting close to her was wrong.
And now what he has left is a feeling of guilt and regret.
He could have lived so many things in the past few months, but he had been a coward.
He wouldn't be a coward now. She deserved much more than his cowardice.
Zoro leaned in and kissed her lips. Their foreheads touched and whispered in a shaky voice.
“You’re anything but a copycat to me.”
She was almost gone, he could feel it. He kissed her again.
“You are everything.”
She was crying silently, but couldn’t speak anymore. The only thing he had in those last moments was her smile.
"You too."
Zoro opened his mouth to speak, but the sparkle in Tashigi's eyes had already faded. He only held the shell where she lived and he never thought he’d feel so much pain in his life.
It was unbearable and suffocating.
Zoro howled and cried desperately along with his companions. He hadn't cried like that since Kuina's death and even so, now it was so much more. He didn't know how to stop and he didn't even know if he wanted to stop.
His head was heavy, his body ached, his chest looked like it was going to explode, he couldn't feel anything but suffering, but he was able to hear clearly when Luffy cried out Tashigi's name in anguish.

“Zoro, her funeral is today. You coming?”, Sanji's voice was so hoarse that if it weren't for the years they spent together, he wouldn't have recognized the cook.
Zoro remained silent, his eyes fixed on the waves breaking lightly in the ocean. Probably a considerable amount of time had passed because Sanji spoke again cautiously.
“I think she’d like you to go.”
It had been three days since Tashigi's death and Zoro had entered a cycle of monstrous violence. No one survived against his swords and no one was able to stop him.
Not even his crew.
The captain's death raised indignation inside everyone's chest and even those who had given up fighting decided to step on the battlefield once again. The woman had become a symbol of resistance and neither Kaido nor Orochi would be able to contain the rebellion.
Because this war had taken a woman pure and just. There was no way to forgive that.
Since then, Zoro has survived on sake. He didn't eat, he didn't sleep, he didn't say anything, he just fought. Until Sanji decided to stop this rampant train of self-destruction before it was too late. The cook confronted him ("You're doing everything contrary to what she wanted!! She died to save us and you want to kill yourself!? Fuck you, Zoro!!") and this resulted in a nasty fight between them. Not even Luffy was able to intervene.
Sanji always had that collected manner about him, but he was also in a rage, just like Zoro. The swordsman noticed by the abrupt way he spoke and the bad words he used. But he also realized afterward that Sanji's real intention was to get him to expel all the accumulated anger before it grew to alarming levels. It was better for him to blow up on Sanji now than to blow up on the entire crew. They wouldn't stand a chance against Zoro's bloodlust. Then the cook withstood all the blows, returned all the attacks, sometimes allowed himself to be a punching bag and other times he just screamed at him. Sanji was trying to tire Zoro at all costs.
When neither of them could stand it anymore because of so many injuries, Zoro let out a cry so painful that Sanji ended up hugging him. He understood the swordsman's despair because Tashigi had become a great friend of the cook. The tiredness won and the two could only cry. Soon after, the two felt Luffy's embrace and tears and when they least realized it, the entire crew enveloped them in a huge hug.
Zoro didn't know how much time they stood there in that way because everything looked like a blur, but when he came down from his numb state, he noticed Sanji was holding out a large plate of food for him.
"Please, Zoro, eat. Things are going to get harder now because her death was a huge blow to us and we’re going to need you."
That was the day before. The two ate together and Zoro needed to thank him because Sanji had been, in fact, very patient and, despite suffering too, was willing to help him. Despite always bickering with each other, the swordsman knew that Sanji was a very valuable friend and one who understood him the most.
“I'll go.”
Sanji nodded and kept silent. After a while, he spoke again.
“They’ll grant her the maximum ranking. It should be Vice-Admiral, but they want her to be remembered as an Admiral.”
The cook lit his cigarette and after just one drag, Zoro snorted.
“As if she’d care about that shit.”
“Yeah.”
Tashigi never cared about ranks and Zoro knew that. The only thing that mattered to her was protecting people. For her and Smoker, ranks were just names to inflate empty people's ego.
“Come on, Zoro. Everyone must be waiting for us by now.”
“Yeah.”
Halfway he stopped and Sanji did too when he realized that Zoro wasn’t following him. He looked confused and his expression was one of inquiry.
“Sanji.”
Zoro noticed that the usual eye covered by the blonde bangs widened for a fraction of a second, but then he just nodded, telling him that he was paying attention.
“Thanks.”
Sanji smiled slightly and turned away, walking towards Sunny's exit again.
“Come on, moss head.”

The funeral was pompous, but it had great honor in the whole ceremony. Zoro couldn't say what it was, but he felt as if everyone present had a huge regard for Tashigi. Hiyori asked for the woman to be buried in her country of ancestry and the Navy granted the request. Luffy asked Smoker for him and Zoro to carry her coffin and the Vice-Admiral had no strength to deny it. Thus, Smoker, Rear-Admiral Hina, Luffy, and Zoro were the last to see Admiral Tashigi's face before she was delicately delivered to the soil.
Zoro was so numb that he didn't even feel his fingertips. Beside him, Nami and Robin were crying profusely - the first hugging Luffy as if her life depended on it and the second had the face hidden in Franky's neck. The two were the ones who became closest to Tashigi and Zoro could imagine the pain they felt for the loss of their friend.
He knew it well because he had lost a friend, a rival and the only woman he loved (and would love) in his entire life.
After the whole ceremony was over, Zoro waited patiently for everyone to say his last goodbye to Admiral in front of her tombstone so he could say some last words to her.
I don't know if there’s this afterlife shit, but if it does, I hope you’ll listen to me, Admiral Four-eyes.
All of the Straw Hats were gone and the last one in front of the tombstone was Smoker. Zoro decided to approach.
Smoker probably noticed the swordsman's presence but chose not to recognize it. The two remained in heavy silence and neither moved. Until suddenly, the marine looked at the sky and grunted.
“You know, that idiot was completely head over heels for a pirate.”
This caught Zoro's attention. Smoker lit only one cigar.
"She did some crazy shit because she said she needed to reach and overcome the damn pirate. She trained her finger to the bone and whenever I asked why he, she always replied that it was because he was the best swordsman she had ever met.”
Smoker took the cigar out of his mouth and held it between his fingers. Zoro bit his lip because he didn't want to collapse in front of the other man.
“She also told me once that he and his crew saved her and made her see how wrong we were.”
Zoro clenched his fists so hard that he was afraid of tearing his hand. Smoker continued.
“She said that this pirate was different. That the bastard and the crew were different and that she’d protect them at all costs.”
The Vice-Admiral continued to stare at the cigar in his hand.
“Tashigi usually had a bunch of imbeciles drooling over her, but she never gave them the time of day. She told Hina that although she hated the fact, she had already been swept off her feet in Loguetown.”
Zoro's shoulders were shaking and his eyes started to water. Smoker sniffed but the swordsman gave the marine privacy. He took the cigar and put it in the base of the tombstone. The pirate seemed to have lost his voice during the Vice Admiral's monologue, but now, in the silence, he seemed to find it again to make one last request.
“Smoker. Can I have Shigure?”
The man answered nothing, just took the sword from his back and handed it to Zoro. The swordsman held Shigure with both hands and for some reason, he could feel Tashigi. Now you’ll be with me, four-eyes. Smoker rubbed his face and turned to go. Before actually leaving, he seemed to hesitate, but stopped and put a hand on Zoro's left shoulder.
“Stay safe, boy.”
And with that, he headed for the exit of the cemetery, leaving Zoro with his chest hurting more than the healthy limit. He sat down, crossed one leg on top of the other, rested Shigure on his thighs and meditated, focusing only on the presence of Tashigi and the longing that suffocated him. He doesn't know how much time he spent there, in that position, with the wind blowing through his hair and swinging his three earrings, but meditation helped to calm his heart.
When his breathing seemed to ease, he decided to throw words at the wind.
“Seriously, how stupid I was… do you forgive me, Tashigi?”
Your sister was my friend, but you were… the most important woman to me.
Zoro looked at the sky and remembered the day when the two decided to have a truce and how Tashigi slept so close to him that she was able to warm him up in the cold night.
“Is there such a stupid thing as another life, Tashigi?”
Zoro covered his face with his left hand and swallowed all the misery.
“Can I meet you in another life?”
The swordsman fought bravely so that no tears would even come out, but judging by the sight that turned into a blur, he must have failed miserably.
“My dream is for you too now.”
Zoro decided to stay for a while, but he knew he was just delaying the final goodbye. Nothing would bring her back, but Shigure would stay with him forever. He even wondered whether his body would support the weight of yet another sword, but he would manage. Finally, with swollen eyes, he untied the black bandana he always carried on his arm and stuck it with a knife Tanto in the base of the headstone.
He got up and headed for the exit. Life needed to go on and it's not like he was going to forget about her. He didn't even know how it would be possible to forget her.
Me too, four-eyes. Since Loguetown.
This time, I wanted to go full angst because I woke up in that vibe hahaha and this fic is test for me to train that style. So if anything feels out of place, I apologize.
Again: everything happens after Punk Hazard, but with headcanons related to the current canonical arc.
A quick reminder that English is not my first language, so forgive me for any mistakes.

1st Ship Pro!Hero Kirishima x Steff
Tumblr media
Kiri and I knew each other from the agency we both worked. He is a pro hero and I run the place. Fatgum  hired me on to overlook the comings and goings of the agency’s
I loved his outlook on life, he had an infectious smile and even when things were rough or crazy if he was there I couldn't be down.
I admired his heart and courage. He was so manly!
He admires my stubbornness, my level head and my natural leadership.
From the day I started he’d take note of things I liked
My favorite coffee or snack on my desk when I got to work in the mornings
Ordering lunch and never letting me pay
I’d repay him kissing his cheek and making him a blush as red as his hair.
One night he offered to help me with the grocery shopping for the agency. Fatgum likes to keep a full kitchen on site.
A little girl was crying , she got away from her mom and couldn’t find her.
Kiri went up to her, showed her his hero license, letting her keep it in her hands.
She smiled and took his finger in her small hand  as they walked together in search of her mom.
My heart melted and my ovaries exploded. I fell hard that night.
We finally started dating after weeks of flirting
When we brought it up to Fatgum he approved and yelled “FINALLY!”
Dates are always fun, golfing and bowling to diners and ramen shops.
Some nights are just us cuddled up (because cuddles with kiri are top notch, he radiates warmth) not paying attention to the movie we put on but I would be nestled on his chest listening to his heart beat lull me to sleep.
When he has to travel is always the hardest but he always calls to say good night, when he can’t call he still tries to sneak in an “I’m ok” and “I miss you” text because he knows I worry
Especially when he’s gone for weeks, but we make up for lost time by getting lost in each other.
Good morning texts turned into good morning kisses in his arms
Once we move in together that’s it.
Baking disasters - where the floor is covered in flour and face filled with chocolate frosting.
Dancing in the kitchen while making dinner, he come home and joins after a while of watching
Hair dying nights - trying not to get color everywhere.
Saturday morning forts
And lazy Sunday’s in bed with him pulling me back under the covers when I try to be productive “babe, you’re always working, let me just love on you today.”
Our first fight we never remembered what it was about but all we knew is that we couldn't stay mad at each other.
His explosive best friend - he grew on me and his cooking skills 👌🏻 I think I’ll keep him around
He talks about marriage and kids and I know it should scare me but with him it feels natural.
When I do get pregnant, he’s so doting. Running around getting everything I could crave.
He reads every what to expect book
Takes me to all the classes
Wakes me up a week before I’m due to make different route from work and home so when I go into labor he’ll know where I am if he’s at work and I’m home.
Thing is our little girl decided the day we do that is the day she comes.
We are in the middle of a busy sidewalk and he’s freaked … I got us over to the hospital and checked in.
He’d be nervous af , holding on to me, breathing with me. Doing everything from beginning to end
And once she comes into the world, my big manly hero melts as soon as he lays eyes on her.
Running out to everyone waiting with a huge smile “IM A DAD!!!”
Our children would be running around the agency with Papa Tai.
Jumping all over Uncle Katsu when he visits.
Our kids walking around wearing his merch
NSFW
Sex with kiri is always amazing
He’s gentle and loving
He takes his time - we don’t have anywhere to be.
He’s a giver and I love receiving
He’s a nibbler…. loves to leave his mark … and bites … neck, breast, thighs …. sweet reminders.
Makes it his mission to make me cum at least twice before he gets off
I’ll always return the favor … I love his dick
His hardening quirk: oh yes ... T H I G H R I D I N G
Breeding kink “you’re going to look so beautiful, round with my baby in your belly” “I’m gonna make sure you both have the world” “would you like that, yea? To carry my baby?” “Want me to stuff you full baby girl.”
Late nights at work hit different.
When we are alone and stressed, those nights  find me bent over his desk , and those nights he leaves bruises but oh how good they feel.
2nd Ship Roronoa Zora x Steff
Tumblr media
GIF by rorronoa
I first met the green haired swordsman when I was on the run from the navy. I had a bounty on my head and so did he. So I was shocked when he stepped up trying to help me (he didn’t need to I took care of it)
“You might have bigger swords handsome but uhh I know how to use my little knives.” I wink at him causing him to blush.
The man has no sense of direction! He went on his merry way but heading right to navy territory. I circle back pulling him into an alley and before he could ask what I was doing he sees navy HQs.
“If I’m right and that’s your ship docked just head west and you’ll find it no problem” That’s when he asked me for help so he wouldn’t  get lost.
And I got him to the ship and was ready to head back into town when his Captain saw me and invited me for dinner as a thank you for being back his first mate. I had to admit to myself
I may have been a lone wolf most of my life but watching the crew together and laughing with them had me wanting something more.
Luffy ends up inviting me to sail with them and I agreed way too quickly for my liking.
Learning everything I can about everyone. And taking time to get to know what they do an learning how to do it. I love to learn … I’m a sponge.
I know Luffy can handle himself but he became like a little brother to me. His smile is infectious.
They are my family. They picked me and love me no matter my past.
I do my share and become the ship mom of all things, I kept up with the everyday things, looking after everyone, becoming 2nd commander under Zoro.
That caused us to work together very closely, starting to get to know him was nice.
He learned about my past. And vowed to hurt the man that hurt me and anyone else who tries
Once we made it official much to Sanji’s dismay. We were always together.
Couple workouts! Sitting on his back during push ups.
Putting me on his shoulders while he squats He doesn’t let me get away without training either.
But we all know how that ends. My legs wrapped around his waist while he held me up with his body as I did sit ups, catching his lips with mine until my arms came up to hug his neck and he slammed me into the nearest wall.
I do baking with Sanji, it’s my favorite pastime.
He doesn’t like me being too close to the cook but he knows I’m his and his alone.
Calling him in to help and he’s reluctant at first but he loves doing it after awhile.
Sitting in the crow’s nest to look up at the stars
Cuddled up with blankets while I read, sometimes to him, he loves listening to my voice and the voice changes I do. He says I’m pretty silly for a bad ass but here we are.
He teaches me how to use his swords. I show him katas I remember from when I trained at a dojo. It’s relaxing and intimate , I never stay focused
Stolen kisses while doing chores
Camping out when we dock on a beach or outskirts of islands. It was much needed alone time with a ship full of people.
Fighting, drinking and fucking on every island/town we get to just cause we can.
NSFW
HIS STAMINA
HIS LIBIDO
Drives him wild when I bite my lip
I mark him all over
body worship
I can tease him all day and work him up but once I have him where I want him he turns the tables and I’m begging him to let me cum.
“What’s the matter, love? Oh no, I’m gonna take my time right now” “weren’t you just talking about how you can make me cum fast with your mouth.” “Show me”
Quickies in storage closets
When we camp out making love by the fire under the stars , all night. (I need to write this)
I can’t keep my hands off of his body. I know every scar in his body and knows every mark in mine.
There’s not a lot to do on a ship once the wind stops so lots of lazy days in bed, hands mapping each to memory and exploring what we like. Those are days when our mouths do the talking, and what that mouth do, oh know what it does with how he trains to keep that sword there.

Sanji’s Pact
Devildom!AU
(pt7/?)
Various Characters X Reader
You were lying awake in bed. Sanji had gone to sleep first saying that it was bad for the skin to stay up late. He advised you to do the same, but being in a strange place made you uneasy and unable to sleep. You texted Kid to see if he was still up. He was already used to the late nights when he was invested in another project of his. Back and forth you went, talking about nothing in particular. Until Ace spoke up from his side of the room. “If you’re gonna stay up at least put your phone on silent.”
“Sorry, Ace. Didn’t mean to disturb you” He hummed in approval as he got out of bed and got into yours. “I can’t sleep either anyway. Who’re you texting?” A brazen move on his part. He had you flustered in bed. Embarrassed by the closeness he was presenting. “K-kid.” He made a small sound going back to his bed to retrieve his phone.
NEW CHAT ROOM WITH KID, ACE, Y/N
ACE: heard you were up. Can’t sleep?
Kid: yea, nothing new
ACE: wanna play a prank on sabo?
KID: hell yea
Y/N: but what would we do?
KID: let’s get a picture of his sleeping face. I bet that could go for a lot of money
ACE: we’ve tried before, but he always catches us.
Y/N: you did?
ACE: yea b4 with Sanji. He wanted a picture because none of us. or well anyone has seen him asleep before
Y/N: that’s hard to believe
KID: it’s true. Last time we tried he hung us upside down for a whole week!
ACE: but this time he won’t expect it because of the retreat…
ACE: I’m in. Wby Y/N?
Y/N: sounds like a bad idea
Y/N: I’m in 👍
KID: great let’s meet by his room in 10
ACE: 👌
Y/N: K
You and Ace left the room as quietly as you could, and made your way to where Sabo’s room should be. Luckily this area of the palace was one of the first you toured before getting deeper into the historical parts of this place. Before you were sucked into the labyrinth.
“What took so long? I said ten minutes.” Kid crossed his arm. He can be impatient at times. “Sorry. We were trying not to wake Sanji, but he kept moving in his sleep.” you both walked up to Kid ready to put your necks on the line. If Sabo found out about what you were doing he’d have a fit. “Let’s just go in,” said Ace from behind you, “be quiet.” He reached for the knob, turning it slowly then pushing on the door. It looked so meticulous it was almost laughable. All three of you stepped into the dark room, closing the door behind you. You could have thought you all went blind if it wasn’t for the frail light the weak moon gave off. It didn’t show anything in the room, it was just a pale glow in the dark of the ink surrounding it. “Where’s the bed? How are we gonna get the picture if there’s no light?” Kid whispered to you. Like hell you know. You were just wondering the same thing. “Kid, stop breathing down my neck.” Ace shoved you to the side to get away from the other male. “I’m not.” There was another hot gust of wind that passed between the three of you. There was no way it was Kid this time. There was something big behind you. Its eyes glowed red, much higher than you thought this room could hold. It must be bigger than the ones they lent you guys for the night. It menacing stare followed every move you made. He could see you in the swallowing darkness of the room. This wasn’t good. You had to get out. “GO BACK!” Ace shouted, racing to the door himself.
“What was that?” you blinked letting your eyes adjust to your new sight. “I think it was Chopper, Sabo’s pet and one of the monsters that guard the nine circles.”
“What was he doing in there?”
“Like I would know.”
“Where are we…?” The walls were familiar… Were you back in the labyrinth? “Sabo must have charmed the door, we’re underground again.” There was a rustling from behind you. “Does that mean we’re back with…Nola…” Already knowing what was behind you, all three of you ran. You needed to buy yourself time to think of a plan. What can you do? Nami! She lent you some of her power. “Stop! I know what to do. Nami lent me some of her power earlier, I can summon the one she has a pact with. Sanji will charm the snake and we’ll get out.” turning the corner you let the serpent rush by in a close call. You had little time to call on the demon before Nola circled around you and killed all of you. “Sanji, come to me….please.”
“Real convincing.”
“You try summoning someone when you never had powers in your life.”
“Don’t you remember how Nami did it.”
“He was already with us then!”
In a burst of smoke, he appeared. Stopping Ace and you from continuing to argue. “Who summons me this late at night? You better have a good excuse- Oh hello, sweet-cheeks. I thought you were my master. How’d you summ-”
“No time! Charm the snake!” You needed to say the spell Nami had chanted before to create a link between the both of you, but you didn’t think you would need it so you didn’t bother to remember it. “I don’t know the spell Nami used, just transform!” You yelled at Sanji, hoping that by some miracle you could actually get it to work. “Do you actually think th-” A burst of power interrupted Ace’s rant. It had a more overpowering feeling to it. The power you pulled of him was stronger than what Nami was able to take out. Sanji moaned, reveling in the power you gave him. He hasn’t felt so much power in such a long time. “Baby doll, we’re having fun after this,” Sanji stated before flying off to find the serpent’s head. “Like hell you are.” Kid pulled you into himself, not wanting Sanji to get his grubby hands on you. “Protective of your master, are we?” Ace’s teasing tone set off Kid. Yelling that it was nothing like that and that he would never have feelings for a weak human, much less one who held a pact with him. Has he had bad encounters with other people that have pacts with him?
Sanji came back, Nola following close by. He scooped you up, giving you a ride tot he top of Nola. “Come on, we don’t have all night!” Kid was furious. How dare he touch you. It was just the pact he had with you that made him act this way. He wasn’t jealous nor did he care for how you seemed to blush when Sanji placed you between his legs to ‘make sure you didn’t fall off’. Kid was just cranky because his plan didn’t go as planned and he couldn’t make bank on a picture of his brother sleeping. That’s all!
Back in your room, Kid refused to leave. He wasn’t gonna leave you alone with that guy! He was already giving you bedroom eyes! “Y/n look into my eyes.” He ordered and you obliged. Why would you do that, you dumb-ass. “Y/N, don’t!”
Nothing happened… Was something supposed to happen? “That’s strange. Once you looked into my eyes you should have fallen under my spell. “ Sanji scooted closer in your bed, Lips barely touching your ear, “All mine. Let’s try again.” Was that really his plan? “Get off my bed. Let me sleep.” Ace threw a pillow at you two from his bed. “Shut up I’m trying to sleep. I was chased by a snake twice today!”
“Newsflash, everyone did.” Kid crawled onto your bed from the other side, effectively trapping you from each side. “I’m not leaving if you’re gonna be staying in the same room as him.” Sanji awed at his brother’s cuteness, “I wanted our first time to be by ourselves, but how can I resist such an adorable display!” Sanji cooed at Kid while a blush blossomed on his face, “Shut up! We’re not doing anything like that!”
“Maybe not, but I do want something to come out of tonight,” He gently grabbed your face, turning you to look at him. His hands were warm on your skin, fitting so nicely on the curve of your jaw. Eyes locking with yours, complete seriousness befalling his lustrous gaze. It was intimate. “I want you to make a pact with me.”
“O-okay…” Sanji chuckled at your tongue-tied speech. Who could blame you, though. You hadn’t expected this. You’d jumped through botched hoops to make pacts with the other brothers. Most of the time it wasn’t the best circumstances that made them want to do it either. You’d plundered in their affairs and reaped more than you’ve sowed. for him to just asked you, it was miraculous. “I-i don’t know what to say. T-thank you.”
Kid huffed at your keenness to make the pact. Wrapping a protective arm around your waist he pulled you down to lay next to him. He didn’t like that you kept making pacts with his brothers, but he couldn’t stop you. He wasn’t your - well anything, other than a demon you made a pact with. It was common for witches to have many pacts with different demons, though it bothered him nonetheless. Probably just as much as having Sanji settled down with the both of you, burying his head underneath your chin. It’ll be a long night, at least for him. He had to keep Sanji’s grubby hands off of you after all.

Summary: “I think this place is haunted Zoro.”
The clock in the middle of the town struck twelve and its chime resounded across the air, the melody resonating along the silent streets.
Twelve times, it rang; each sound more sinister than the last one as if sending a warning of dire tidings to come.
When the last tones finally dissipated, an eerie silence fell all over the town.
-------------------------
“Are you sure this place is livable?”
Usopp stared unconvincingly at the close-to-dilapidated inn in front of them.
Franky studied the building while thoughtfully rubbing his chin. “I think it could use a few suuupeeer repairs here and there…”
“Scratch that,” the sniper said with a slight wave of his hand. “It needs an overhaul. A major one.”
“Quit complaining!” Nami snarled from behind them. “We are lucky enough to get a place to stay while the log sets.” Though she sweat-dropped when her eyes settled on the dejected sight in front of her. True enough the inn looked old and abandoned… and absolutely not inhabitable in her opinion.
“A-are we really going to stay there?” Chopper whispered in a trembling tone while hiding behind Zoro’s leg. “It looks really scary.”
“Well we have no choice,” Sanji answered as he scrutinized the edifice, blowing out a stream of smoke. “It’s the only place available that can accommodate all of us.”
“Why can’t we just stay in the Sunny?” Usopp inquired with a frown. “That should save us some money,” he glanced at the inn and shuddered. “And some sanity as well.”
Why is that the more he stared at it, the more it seemed… foreboding?
“Hmmm… it does look like most of the dwellings and structures on this island are built to look old and forlorn, if not mysterious or scary.” Robin observed as she stared at the other contraptions randomly dotting the downhill road leading to town.
“Yohohoho!” Brook bravely approached the threshold. “It does, doesn’t it Robin-san? From what I heard the people of this town live for the spooks and the creeps. They actually love the occult and the macabre; hence the whole dark, eerie and ghastly atmosphere.”
“Ok seriously. What kind of island have we docked into?” Usopp groaned.
“Tch,” Zoro clicked his tongue against roof of his mouth. “This couldn’t get drearier than Kuraigana.”
“No one’s asking moss-head.” Sanji huffed beside him.
“Urusei stupid eyebrows.”
“Temee…”
“Shut up!” Nami viciously glared at the two, silencing them.
Zoro scowled at her. “Can we go inside now?” A yawn escaped him. “I want to sleep.”
“Is that all you can think about?” Nami gave him a disapproving glance. Talk about downright lazy. Zoro really takes the damn cake.
“Right now yeah,” he mumbled, scratching his head.
Nami sighed. She had to admit, she was tired as well. She was already up at the wee hours of dawn with Zoro and Franky; navigating the foggy waters surrounding the island, making sure they don’t ram head on into any of the numerous islets scattered everywhere.
A flash of red caught her eye. Luffy just landed right in front of the inn, after taking his sweet time prancing about the whole perimeter and frolicking in the nearby woods.
The rubber man’s eyes were twinkling with too much excitement at the prospect of exploring a new place. “Shishishi!” He laughed exuberantly. “I smell adventure!” He pumped his fist into the air. Then he pointed towards the inn. “Let’s go minna!”
“Shall we go in and find out if it’s… haunted?” Robin queried, winking mischievously at the others.
Luffy’s eyes lit up some more at that. “Oooh! Haunted? Maybe we can catch some ghosts!”
“Ghosts?!” Chopper gasped.
“Ghosts?!” Usopp echoed.
“Ghosts?!” Brook choked, his bony hands going to his cheeks… or lack thereof.
Sanji aimed a kick at the stupid skeleton’s head… skull…
“Aho! Why don’t you look at yourself first?!”
“Yohohoho! But Sanji-san. I am scared of ghosts!”
“Everybody shut up!” Nami shouted. “There are no ghosts there and it’s not haunted!” She wrapped her arms around herself at the thought that it could be haunted… given the way the place looks.
“How sure are you Nami?” Robin asked grimly as the navigator flinched.
“Robin!!!”
“Don’t worry my Nami-swan! Your prince will protect you at all costs!” Sanji sang and twirled towards her. “You too my lovely Robin-chwan!”
“Good grief cook don’t you ever stop?” Zoro groused as he nonchalantly strode towards the entrance.
“HAH?!”
“Stop it and just move your asses!” Nami hissed when the two men started glaring daggers at each other.
“Let’s go!!!” Luffy was already at the entrance, yelling. “Let’s hunt some ghosts!”
Franky trudged forward as the others slowly followed. “Looks like this is gonna be a fun stay.”
“Zoroo…” Chopper leapt up at the swordsman’s shoulders. “I’ll stay in the room with you.”
“Hnnn…”
“Nami-swan! Robin-chwan!” Sanji crooned. “I can stay in the room with—”
“We’re good Sanji-kun,” Nami said dismissively as Robin giggled. The cat thief is not looking forward to the thought of a pervert hovering over her while she sleeps.
“But…”
“Hey wait!” Usopp raised a hand to get their attention.
“What Usopp?” Zoro asked, quirking an eyebrow at him.
“Are we the only guests staying here?”
They all fell silent at that.
Then Robin looked at him with a grave expression on her face. “And what if we are?” She said with a disturbing smile.
“Uhh… I think I’m coming down with a bad case of cannot-go-inside-a-haunted-inn disease!”
-------------------------
The clock in the middle of the town struck seven and its chime resounded across the air, the melody resonating along the silent streets.
Seven times, it rang; each sound more sinister than the last one as if sending a warning of dire tidings to come.
When the last tones finally dissipated, an eerie silence fell all over the town.
Then all the lights in every house, on every street were simultaneously extinguished.
-------------------------
Zoro opened his eye almost immediately.
It was quiet. Too damn quiet.
He slowly rose from the bed, rubbing a hand on his face in the process. He was alone in the room that they had rented for the night.
What time is it? And where are the others? He blearily looked around, trying to sense any of his friends anywhere.
And why is it dark?
He instantly stood up. Usually he would just shrug this off and go back to sleep but his gut instinct was telling him that something was… off.
Just like Usopp pointed out earlier, they were the only ones who were staying at the inn of nightmare (as the sniper coined it). But contrary to how it looked outside, the innermost area of the place was actually well-kept and tidy even. Robin commented that the inn’s façade was just probably to live up with the island’s weird ambience.
The moment they were assigned their respective rooms, the swordsman left the others talking to the inn’s caretaker. He sleepily made his way upstairs with Nami trailing right behind him, pointing the correct directions to their rooms in a snippy tone.
He was tempted to start a row with her, but decided against it. He knows she was being snarky because she was just as tired as him after that rather challenging sailing and steering to get to this damned island this morning.
He was out cold the moment his back hit the soft bed. And had just woken up when he sensed that something was amiss.
Zoro remained standing in middle of the room, waiting, watching and listening. He had been hearing weird, scratching sounds along the wall as well as dull thuds like someone was banging on it. Heck, he could swear that there was one time he heard someone moaning or groaning. But his haki did not pick up anyone or even anything in the area.
Except… Nami.
Gathering his precious katanas, he decided to step out of the room to check on the navigator.
-------------------------
To his surprised he was met by the sight a cowering mapmaker behind a slightly opened door, peering fearfully at the corridor.
“Nami?”
“Zoro?” She half-whispered, half-asked as she peeked from the slightly ajar door of the girls’ rented room.
The whole corridor was in darkness. No, scratch that. The whole inn where they were is in total darkness.
There were a few seconds of silence before the navigator threw the door open with a shriek that almost made Zoro deaf as she launched herself at him.
“Oi!” He grunted when Nami’s body abruptly collided with his. “Ouch! Damn it Nami! Watch where you are touching!”
“It’s too damn dark! I can’t see anything!” Nami retorted, trying to grab whatever part of Zoro she can get her hands on. Their hands tangled and pushed at each other as they both tried to grasp the other—Zoro with the intent to stop her from grabbing while Nami was bent on seizing any available part of the swordsman.
Her elbow knocked on his swords and Zoro growled. “Stay still damn it!” His hands finally managed to wrap around her wrists.
“Zorooo…” she wailed. “Wait! Are you really Zoro?”
“What the hell do you mean by that woman?!”
“I dunno. You could be someone pretending to be Zoro…”
“Are you insane witch?” He hissed. “It’s me. What are you gibbering on about?”
There was a pause and a sniffle much to Zoro’s astonishment. Then Nami pulled her hands away from his hold to wrap them around his waist in a vice-like grip.
“Zoro! You idiot! I thought I was all alone here!” She cried out; her tone muffled as she buried her face on his chest.
Zoro scratched his head at that. It was clear that Nami was on edge tonight. Well who could blame her? Waking up alone in the midst of darkness while in an unfamiliar territory would definitely shake the shit out of someone.
Well… except him. He’s used to waking up by himself almost anywhere in the middle of anything.
But Nami, he reminded himself, was different from him.
He patted her head awkwardly. “I’m here,” he grunted.
In the dark he felt her tilt her head up to look at him, arms still locked around his waist without any intent of letting go.
“Where are the others?” She asked in a hushed tone.
Zoro shrugged. “I dunno. I just woke up.”
“Can you try finding them using your haki?”
“I already did.”
“And?”
He shook his head before he remembered that she won’t be able to see the gesture. “Nothing.”
He can hear Nami gulped nervously. “So we are alone here?!”
“Looks like it.”
She was silent for a few seconds. Then her embrace on him tightened as she whispered, “I think this place is haunted Zoro.”
Zoro’s face scrunched into a frown at that. “What?”
“I think this place is haunted.”
The tall lad scoffed. “Don’t be such a scaredy-cat Nami. Ghosts aren’t real.”
“You don’t know that!”
“We have a freaking skeleton on the ship with us!” Zoro pointed out. “And you are drawing the line with ghosts?”
Nami did not answer.
“Besides the only close to ghosts I’ve seen so far is Perona’s negative hollows. And that even comes from her devil fruit power.”
“Then how can you explain the sounds I’m hearing earlier?” The orange-haired girl retorted, grasping his shirt firmly. “Didn’t you hear it too Zoro?” She tentatively asked, biting her lower lip.
Maybe it was wrong to ask the stoic swordsman. Knowing him—if he indeed heard the same things she did—he would just shrugged it off as nuisances and would go back to sleep.
“You mean those—”
THUD!
They both stopped at the sound. Zoro swore he can feel the way Nami stiffened against him. How her grip on his shirt tightened and how she pressed herself closer to him.
THUD!
“I know you hear that Zoro!” Nami hissed, daring him to go and disagree with her.
“Tch. I do.”
She squirmed against him. “What do you think it is?”
He grabbed her shoulders and pushed her away a bit. He pricked his ears up, trying to listen to the sound again. But there was nothing.
Nami was looking at him uneasily. “Zoro…”
“It came from upstairs,” Zoro said as his hand slid to the hilt of his red sword. A shark-like grin suddenly appeared on his face. “Well… only one way to find out.”
Nami’s eyes widened. No. He can’t mean…
“Come on,” he took a step forward. “Let’s look for what’s causing that damned sound.”
“WHAT?!” The cat burglar finally managed to blurt out.
“You’ve been hearing the same weird sounds right?” Zoro inquired with a huff.
“Yeah…” Nami affirmed. “That’s what woke me up. I heard that same thudding and then some strange sound like someone was groaning or moaning.”
The former pirate hunter nodded. “I heard the same. That’s why we need to see what’s causing it.”
“No we don’t!” The navigator all but screeched. “I absolutely refuse! No. Nuh-uh. You can’t make me.”
“I’m not forcing you to!” Zoro growled lowly. “You can just stay in your room!”
“Fine I will!”
“Who knows what you might see or hear —”
“ZORO!!! YOU ASSHOLE!!!” Nami shrieked as she started hitting him with her fist.
“Hey! Aww! Stop hitting me Nami!”
“Why would you fucking say that?!”
Zoro restrained both of her wrists with one hand, pulling her towards him. “Listen here woman. Either you come with me or you lock yourself inside that room and wait for me to come back!”
Nami looked absolutely horrified at that. Not that he can see it. Wait for him to come back? Seriously? “No!” She snapped at him. “With your sense of direction? You’ll get lost in this darkness and you will never make it back to me!”
“My sense of direction is fine witch!”
“No! No! No! No!” She shook her head vehemently making her long hair bounced around at the force. “I’m coming with you!” Nami gazed at the long, dark corridor weakly. “Even if there are things in the dark…”
Zoro snorted.
Nami shot him a sharp look. Their eyes have finally adjusted in the darkness that they can now faintly make out each other’s features.
He gently released her hands from his grip. “It’s much safer for you if you are with me Nami.”
Her breath hitched at that. There was something with the way he said it that makes her heart thump wildly against her chest.
“Let’s go.”
Nami reached out and clutched his hand. “Zoro it’s too dark,” she stated. She know how easily he can get lost in three steps and she’s afraid that she’ll be left alone in the dark trying to find her way.
Zoro studied her for a few good seconds then nodded. “I won’t let go alright.”
She managed to smile. “Don’t get lost Zoro. Don’t leave me here alone in the dark or I swear you’ll be looting for treasures to pay me for the rest of your life.”
“Fine.” The green-haired lad tugged at her hand so they could start moving. “Weren’t you supposed to be a cat burglar or something? Shouldn’t you be at home with the darkness?”
Nami huffed. “Only if I’m stealing. Haunted inns are a different thing!”
“For the last time this place is not haunted,” Zoro groaned. “Come on let’s go.”
They barely made it a few steps when one of the doors ahead suddenly opened. The two pirates halted and stared at it, waiting.
“What the hell?!” They both shouted in unison as something crawled out of the open room.
It was dressed in what looked like a tattered robe streaked with blood. Its black hair looked molting and greasy and was covering its whole face. Whatever it was, it seems like it was not crawling as they initially thought… but slithering out of the room.
All of a sudden, whatever-that-thing-is, lifted its head and looked at them.
Then it let out the most awful, terrifying moan Nami ever heard in her entire life.
“KYAAAHHHH!!!” She screamed at the same time, absolutely horrified. She let go of Zoro’s hand and turned to run towards the other direction.
“Nami!”
Suddenly something dropped from the ceiling right in front of the already terrified girl, cutting her escape.
Nami blinked. And froze.  She was face to face with a severed head—all skinned and bloodied—gawking at her even in death.
She let out a bloodcurdling scream.
“AAAAAAAHHHHH!!!”
Zoro moved fast, grabbing her immediately and almost shoving her face on his chest to stop her from looking at the hideous sight as he ran past it. “Damn it,” he muttered, cradling the bawling navigator against him.
He sprinted towards the other end of the corridor, not even bothering to look back.
What the hell was THAT?
He turned around the corner and leaned against the wall, catching his breath. Nami was still trembling in his arms.
“What the hell was that?” She managed to choke out after a minute.
“I don’t know!”
She buried her face back into his chest. “I told you this place is haunted!” She whimpered, clutching the front of his shirt. “This is so much worse than Thriller Bark!”
“I’ll say,” Zoro breathed out as he looked down at the top of her head. “Though I really doubt that those are ghosts.”
“I don’t care what they are. Let’s just get out of here Zoro!”
Before he can even answer, the sound of all the doors opening at the corridor they just vacated filled the air.
“What the fuck?” They both whispered and Nami pushed herself closer to him as possible.
There was the thudding sound again and this time it came from almost all around them, accompanied by unearthly moans that sounded like someone was in agony.
“Zoro!”
“Move Nami,” he ordered as he pulled her towards the dark hallway to their left. They covered a few good feet before a random door burst open and something rammed itself against Nami’s legs almost making her stumbled forward.
“Aaaaaah! Zoro get it off! Get it off!” She shrieked when she felt a cold, clammy hand closed around her ankle. She kicked at it wildly, the heel of her shoe meeting something solid.
When she felt it release her, she automatically threw herself at Zoro, who promptly caught her while glaring at the thing on the floor.
“Zoro! Zoro!” Nami gazed at him pleadingly. “Get us out of here!” She wrapped her arms around his neck with a wail. “It’s not a request. It’s a demand!”
Zoro’s eye left the figure he was scrutinizing and raised an eyebrow at her.
Nami grabbed both of his cheeks so that they were eye to eye with each other. “I’ll knock off some belis from your last debt and buy you whatever booze you want!”
How he was able to smirk while they are in this predicament is beyond her. “Heh! Now we are talking.”
“Just get us out of here!!!”
-------------------------
They managed get down the first floor and turn around a corner that was luckily devoid of any weird occurrences. By now the whole inn seemed to come alive with thudding sounds, opening and closing doors, creaking floors and some moaning and groaning here and there.
His eyes rested on Nami who was looking worse for wear. She was catching her breath, chest heaving in a frenzied manner as she struggled to fill her lungs with air. Between all that running and screaming, he was surprised she didn’t pass out. Well to be honest, they’ve been through worse than this before.
Their navigator was really something.
He had to admit. A scared Nami is a damn cute one. Not to mention the way she was clinging on him like he was her lifeline was kinda... nice.
When she’s like that, it can’t help but bring to surface a whirlwind of feelings he doesn’t really know he can handle or wants to deal with.
“Zoro!” Nami pushed herself on him again. In the dim light trickling from a window, he was able to see that there were remnants of tears glinting at the corner of her eyes. “Let’s just get out of here! This place is going to drive me nuts.”
He stared at the orange-haired girl for a few seconds. Nami rested her head against his chest exhausted. He wrapped an arm around her shoulders, pulling her close and basking in the moment that he can actually touch her like this.
This damned inn and all its spooks have it merits after all.
“Zoroo...” she bemoaned looking up at him beseechingly. “Let’s go.”
“Alright,” he sighed flicking one last glance at her. And before he can stop himself, he bent down and softly pecked her lips.
Nami stiffened at the contact. And so did he; head snapping back sharply and stepping away from her.
“Su-sumanai...”
Nami brought a hand on her lips as Zoro turned red. What possessed him to do that?
“I-it was just a spur of the moment thing,” he stuttered, embarrassed and thankful that the darkness was able to hide his blushing face. “Let’s just get out of here.” He pronounced, clearing his throat.
This is what happens when you let your guard down Zoro. He chastised himself. Just one damn situation like this, where all the defenses are down, had him showering the mapmaker with even just a sliver of his real affection for her.
He sidestepped and was about move forward when Nami’s arm shot up and hooked around his waist.
“Nam-?”
Any other words stopped short in his mouth when he felt her pressed her own lips against his.
There in the midst of all the spookiness and ghastliness, while everything is dark and eerie... they kissed each other.
Zoro brought a hand to cup her face, pushing her closer as he deepened the kiss. Nami didn’t seem to mind it as she returned the kiss with enough fervor to make him realize that there will be no turning back from this.
Her hand closed on the wrist of the one that was holding her face as the other gripped on his shirt tightly. He barely noticed his arm snaking around her slim waist, almost lifting her off the ground so that he can delve into her taste deeper.
They exchanged soft quick kisses, trying to savor the sensation, before finally stopping to catch their breaths as they both gazed at each other.
The corners of Nami’s lips quirked into a smile. He returned it with a smirk of his own.
“Get us out of here Zoro,” she murmured albeit cheekily. Gone was the scaredy-cat witch from earlier who was shrieking and screeching non-stop.
He nodded. His grey eye still locked onto her brown ones. It seems to be telling him that a reward was due once he gets them out of there.
Suddenly a door on the far right banged opened and there was a terrifying moan as a figure shuffled out slowly.
And just like that the somehow dreamy atmosphere dissipated, plunging them back into reality.
“Zorooooo!” Nami squealed and flung herself at him again for the umpteenth time that night. “I don’t want to be here anymore!”
Zoro caught her effortlessly, wrapping an arm around her waist, a bit peeved at the intrusion.
Something slammed on the window on their left and Nami let out a bloodcurdling scream as a face twisted in what can only be defined as torment peered at them from the outside.
Zoro winced as her voice hit a pitch high enough to shatter his eardrums.
“Get us out of here now!” Nami demanded arms locked tight around his neck and face buried against the crook of his neck. “Now!”
Zoro sighed and muttered an affirmative. Only one way out. He should’ve done it from the start.
“Tatsu maki!”
-------------------------
The clock in the middle of the town struck eight and its chime resounded across the air, the melody resonating along the streets.
Eight times, it rang; each sound more sinister than the last one as if sending a warning of dire tidings to come.
Before the last tones finally dissipated, it was interrupted by a sound of explosion coming from the outskirts of the town where an old, creepy inn was situated.
-------------------------
“Hey,” Usopp called out as he traipsed along the cobblestone street along with Luffy and Chopper. “Did anyone inform Zoro or Nami that there will be something like a scare fest for the town’s festival tonight?”
“Uhm… I’m not really sure,” Franky answered, peering from behind the nine pumpkins he acquired from one of the market stalls. “I think Robin did?”
“I mentioned it to Nami,” Robin said as she fell into the step beside the shipwright. She just came out of the bookstore that they passed by with Sanji in tow. “But I doubt she heard it from all that yapping at Zoro about rooms and directions.”
“The scare fest wouldn’t be until midnight tonight,” Brook hummed. “We still have time to tell them.”
“Don’t mind it,” Luffy waved their concern off like the carefree captain that he is. “They’ll both be fine.”
“Can we still walk around the town before we head back?” Chopper asked. “I still want to buy some of that candy corn we saw earlier.”
“Ooh! And some of those pumpkin-shaped cookies that really smells wonderful!” Luffy agreed his mouth watering at the thought of the treats.
“Go ahead,” Sanji told them. “I’ll head back first and drop off this books Robin-chwan brought. Then I’ll inform Nami-swan and that stupid moss-head about the—”
BOOM!
An explosion came from the location of the inn where they were staying.
The Straw Hats watched, perplexed, as the remainder of what could only be Zoro’s tatsu maki whirled into nothingness followed by a loud clap of thunder and a huge flash of lightning from Nami’s thundercloud homie, Zeus.
The townspeople pointed at what could possibly be a sign of an incoming storm.
Shouts and applause exploded from the crowd of onlookers as they cheered at the wondrous display of nature which would definitely add an ominous mood to their festival.
“Right,” Usopp deadpanned as he observed the destruction from afar. “Looks like somebody DID inform them...”

Sunflower Marimo
PG-13, 4958 words
Fluff and Crack, Magical Seeds
AO3
So in this post on my main blog I gushed over this adorable work by @kingofalltsunfish and sorta made a promise to write it for her lol
It may have happened almost over two years ago, and the art itself is even much older than that, but I knew I had to do it.
Even if the outcome is all over the place for so many reasons, it’s better now then never.
Sanji has been howling with laughter for the last half an hour, as he keeps understanding more and more the reason behind Zoro’s strange behaviour.
Ever since returning back to the ship at almost the middle of the night, Zoro has refused to leave Chopper’s infirmary, where he has spent the night instead of the boys’ quarter. Then, all throughout breakfast, he proceeded in arguing with Nami about his mysterious need to turn the Sunny against the location of the sun - or, in words of people who actually know how direction works, to turn west - even though the Log Pose is directing to north-east.
Nami eventually agreed, even though he refused to give any explanation whatsoever. Then, it was only when he checked - through more than one window, because, you know, safety first - that the shadows outside were stretched in alignment with the ship’s structure that he rushed from the galley and through the short way that the infirmary created to the backside of the ship.
The crew’s excitement as they followed right after him was short, though, as it turned out he simply had to pee. Looking at each other, the group asked Franky to check if there was something wrong with the ship - although it did not explain Zoro’s secrecy about it - but he quickly found out that everything was just fine.
It was just then when Zoro finally went out, but slowly so, as he opened the door way too carefully, and even then took his time to look around, clearly making sure the ship was still facing the same way as he had asked for. Weirdly enough, it suddenly was not good enough for him to get out, but just shouted that they could now turn it back.
Before Sanji could tell him once more that Nami-san is not one to order around like that, though, Luffy stretched his hand all the way to him, assuring that he would make it quicker for him- and pulled Zoro’s shirt back to him without sparing him a moment to object.
Zoro, as usual, crushed right at Luffy and most of the rest, like Robin-chan, who Sanji had the utmost pleasure to pull away; but as he was bathing in the delight for having her thanking him that, suddenly he heard Zoro grunting.
The instinct to stand guard for his Nakamas overcoming any other nature of his as usual, Sanji cut his blessings off right away and turn to the Marimo-head, who was gritting his teeth and shaking with effort, although there was nothing visible to be affecting him.
Usopp and Luffy were arguing with one another, seemingly sensing nothing themselves, but Sanji activated his Haki anyway, in case some Devil Fruit power was casting on him from afar.
“What are you doing, dumb Cook?”
Sanji blinked back at Zoro, who, weirdly enough, looked completely fine as he was standing quiet and still. Had he seriously stolen his attention for nothing? Was it all just about some stupid bet he filled, considering Zoro never backs down from a promise he makes?
Sanji frowned. “You gotta be kidding me- you weren’t okay just a second ago! Just what’s wrong with you today that you’re acting more weirdly than usual?!”
There was a flash of realization in Zoro’s eye, and suddenly he was giving him the kind of smirk he always has when he uses Sanji to his advantage, although usually it is only for his amusement. “Me? I’m completely fine. You’re the one who imagines things. See?” He stretched his arms to the sides and walked backwards, as though to give Sanji a better look of his entire body.
But then he walked right into Nami, who had returned from the helm on the front of the ship to their side.
“Not only you didn’t watch your mouth that entire morning, but now you don’t even mind crossing others’ paths?!” She rebuked him.
“Yeah, how dare you running into Nami-san so carelessly?” Sanji followed with a yell of his own.
Zoro tsked and scratched his head in annoyance, but Sanji cared even less than the indifferent he would have been anyway about him being sandwiched between the two of them.
“Look at me when I’m talking to you!” She demanded, holding Zoro’s sides and turning him to her.
Zoro grunted again, this time like she was straining all the muscles in his body just by rotating him on his axis. Startled, Nami let go of him- but simply realizing her hands was like letting go of a swing that was spun 180 degrees, as in an instant he was turning his back on her, facing against the backside of the ship.
Everyone silently stared at him for a while, until Chopper started freaking out of the blue.
“Is it- Could it be- Th-that’s bad! Where’s the doctor?!”
“Calm down Chopper and tell us what’s wrong!” Usopp entreated him tiredly.
“Ahh, sorry!” Chopper circled Zoro, who still did not bother to change his position back, to be able to face him. “Zoro, yesterday when we split in the island and you wandered by yourself, did you come across sunflower seeds, or something similar, while exploring the island?”
“Yeah, I helped some old lady carrying her groceries, then the garden kept leading me to her backyards where there were flower plots, so it tempted me to try some. Why?”
Sanji felt a squeeze inside his stomach, but just like every time Zoro’s words affected him like that, he made himself to ignore it. He should know better than react that way to such an idiot who would not admit he got lost in a porch, for fuck’s sake.
“Then it is serious!” Chopper squealed and put both paws on his face.
Sanji patted him on his head, trying to soothe him as much as he could. “What it is then?”
“I’ve noticed the sunflowers here are a rare species of a clan-type.”
“Clan-type?” Robin parroted him with an inauspicious voice.
Chopper nods. “It is kind of plants which try to make other living beings to become like them instead of naturally reproducing. Luckily, this species is too weak to actually make a human into a flower, and maybe this is why the locals allowed themselves to grow them for their beauty. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t succeed to leave any effect at all.”
“Eh? But he still looks normal!” Luffy wondered as he searched for anything outstanding all over Zoro’s body, who was losing his patience by the minute.
“Didn’t you notice? As long as he sees it, Zoro can only face the sun!”
Sanji cannot help himself but losing it.
  -
  For the following days, Zoro spends even more of the day in the crow’s nest. He even stops looking for booze, too, as he has to make sure he drinks just as much as his body needs to deal with the amount of sweat he perspires during his workout, so unlike the first morning he will be able to hold it until the sun is down, when he finally can go out.
Since Nami asked Sanji so, he prepares breakfast for Zoro earlier than everyone, just before the sun is up, and delivers him lunch while everyone eats inside the galley.
Sanji understands it is serious, especially as out on the sea, the next battle can happen at any given moment; not only everyone will have to have Zoro’s back, the proud bastard will not even let them cover for him that easily himself.
In the meantime, though, he still takes advantage of that to make fun of Zoro every time. He cannot be blamed for not being able to stay quiet with a - now literally - moss-for-brain guy, who could not even figure out himself that the sunflower seeds he has eaten just before it all started were the reason for it.
As the sunflowers act the way they do because they know what is best for themselves, even without consciousness, that man is officially dumber than a plant.
“Enjoy your meal- unless you’re already full by photosynthesis,” he wishes him the first time he brings him lunch.
“It’s exactly noon, so make sure to warn us when you sense a Knock-Up Stream, South Bird,” he cheerfully remarks another time as he brings him a snack.
“Maybe you should consider renaming this one after Thousand Sunny instead,” he notes at one of the time he comes back to take the dishes, while Zoro was practising the movement of the 1080 Pound Ho technique with weights.
For the last bad pun Sanji actually has to dodge an attack directed at him, and each time it is still worth it. After all, if he has somehow spent the entire first day under the effect of the seeds facing the sun, which allowed him to find the right path back to the ship even later than usual, without getting his face burn- then at least Sanji can amuse himself by attempting getting his face red himself.
Although while not finding it as cute as it is amusing, of course. Not at all.
At any case, the rest of the crew takes their part in toying with the current member to get into an unfortunate situation, so Sanji is afraid he will soon run out of original good material himself - only Usopp, for example, has used up anything clever you could make with a comparison to the Sunlight Tree Eve -  but that until Chopper gets concerned about the lack of vitamin D Zoro will soon suffer from, as it is not clear when the effect will go away, and orders him to take his naps outside.
Luffy and Usopp get bored of it quickly, as the sun moves too slowly for the direction Zoro’s head leans to noticeably enough, but Sanji still manages to entertain himself with trying to guess the time according to the direction Zoro’s head is tilted to.
But that also means he stares at him more as he sleeps, and perhaps Sanji does more damage to himself than good while suddenly noticing how beautiful Zoro’s face are, once he is too peaceful to distract Sanji with some sort of annoyance. It even exposes some of his soft side he usually does not show, well hidden behind the stiffness the usually carries himself with.
Sanji is reminded of one of those rare times, where they got stuck with each other as circumstances made them split together from the rest of the crew; as they walked by a small waterfall, Sanji’s eyes caught a small rainbow it created. He got closer to make it illuminate over his hand, and only by luck Zoro was still not that far away once he raised his head to look for him. He called him, intentionally to warn him to not drift away- but was then surprised when the swordsman not only was marvelled once he noticed Sanji’s his finding, but was interested enough that he got closer to take a better look, touching Sanji’s hand in the process. Sanji somehow avoided jerking away, but it did make his gaze to lock on the full exposure of Zoro’s long, moss-green eyelashes as he was looking down. The way their arcs were as perfectly round as the sincere, more unalloyed than his katanas smile stretching beneath them caught Sanji’s breath. He had seen him smiling astonishedly like that before, like when they arrived at Water 7, but had never thought he would have ever care to share it with him.
Then the singular hazel eye looked back at him, which may have carried less variety of shades than a rainbow, but the natural phenomenon still had nothing in comparison to the depth and strength of the overall tone.
Okay, that is it, he should stop wasting time on bittersweet memories and focus on important issues, especially those which will actually grant him happiness, like making drinks for the ladies.
He manages to actually lose those previous thoughts in his new occupation, that he even manages to not pay attention to Zoro as he leaves a drink beside him, and passes him to Nami and Robin- the only targets that should matter.
And that is why it takes another whole day for anyone to notice that he became the one according to whom Zoro’s body changes the angle it is facing, overcoming even the sun’s position, whenever he is near him.
  -
  “Best. Development. Ever!” Usopp cries, rolling on the ship’s lawn while holding his sides.
“How the hell having our Swordsman losing control over his body is a good development?!” Nami scolds after him.
Luffy, who has been crossing the grass back and forth just like Usoop, suddenly clashes into the other- but it does not stop the two of them to bark out in yet another wave of laughter.
“We should find a yellow ball on the next island to throw at the Marines so he could fight them,” their Captain finally suggests.
“Great idea, so very helpful,” Nami sighs as she walks up to the duo to give them their justified punches.
Sanji has never had any special thought about his hair, really - unlike someone else’s, it is actually a completely normal one - but that situation makes him to actually wish it was not yellow.
Not that it means he plans to dye it to anything else, of course.
“Why doesn’t anyone listen to me?!” Chopper waves his arms helplessly, and jumps for a good effort. “It can’t be about Sanji’s hair resembling the sun!”
Zoro groans. “Either way, Cook- why don’t you go there too so I can give them a piece of my mind too!”
“Tch, good-for-nothing Marimo.” Sanji lights up a cigarette as he remains standing. “Now I won’t be able to stand close to either Nami-san or Robin-chan, for who knows how long, in case you’ll hurt them accidentally.”
“Won’t happen as long as you don’t give me a reason to try going after you, Ero-Cook.”
Sanji jumps in front of Zoro at once, pressing him against the wall with his foot on his chest. “You mean you actually won’t even try to control yourself when you have a lady in view?!”
Zoro holds his leg and tries to shove it off of himself, but that also means he has to try incline to another way; as he is physically not able to face a point even a little skewed from the one Sanji is at, an attempt like that is clearly utterly impossible- or at least looks to be as painful as trying to twist one’s hand beyond its maximum flexibility point.
Sanji smirks triumphantly. “Well, at least you finally won’t be able to ignore the truth anymore while it is standing right in your face.”
“What truth? That your women-obsession is a much more ridiculous sickness than mine?”
“What was that - ?!“
 “ - Didn’t you hear me? I told you to stop it!” Chopper, in his grown Heavy Point form, comes to stand aside them and force Sanji to step back. “I finally figured it out- it’s adrenaline!”
“Huh?”
“His body can't absorb light, so it searched for the next closest thing- something that drives itself to accelerate energy creation through cellular respiration, and I think it found it in the rush of adrenaline Zoro has been triggered to experience during all the times you angered him recently. You’ve teased him more than everyone when you came every day to bring him his meals.”
“That might be true,” Brook comments, “but when we tried earlier, Zoro was back to being attracted to the sun whenever Sanji was gone out of his sight. Even while searching for alternatives, it still doesn’t solve the original problem.”
“That’s true,” Chopper nods, “but I still think that it’s still progress. Soon his body will understand that the best way to get energy is through food alone, and will teach itself to get over that added instinct, just like there are a lot of instincts the human body forgets as we grow up.”
All the while they discuss this, Zoro has his eye closed so he will not have to stare directly as Sanji, who knows that he will not be able to get on with it for long himself. While he is currently not the one to be stuck in a state he cannot get away from, it can soon be him if Zoro will start finding things he could use to his disadvantage, like that time he caught him off-guard by the waterfall.
“Anyway, I’ll go hang back at the galley, where I better keep staying out of the zone of staring creepers,” he declares as he starts making his way back to the kitchen, even though it is too early for any dinner preparations.
“Like having to look at your swirly eyebrows the entire day doesn’t creep me out,” Zoro murmurs as his body spins in accordance with Sanji’s advance, which Sanji senses on his back way too well. Another roar of laughter commences, but is cut short as Sanji finally closes the door behind him- living the two boys in the direction of the sun fully exposed to the Swordsman’s range of attack.
Sanji puffs out smoke in relief. Being away from a compassionless eye constantly following and judging him, now he can finally think clearly: while he does not turn down Chopper’s speculation completely, Sanji still has a feeling there is something else that Zoro’s instincts connect between the sun and himself, even if not the shared colour.
Going over any association he has about the sun which he can somehow be also linked to him, he finds quicker than he would think an idea with a considerable possibility, and he is not happy when the solution he comes out with intensifies it on his face.
Unless he comes out with a better idea, though, or somehow he will be miraculously proven wrong even before that- he knows he will have no choice but to try it.
  -
  He waits until the next day’s sunrise, since the last dinner’s attempt has proven that Sanji still affects him even after the sun has sunk completely below the horizon, to the point the cook had to go out of his own kitchen to let him eat in peace.
While Zoro technically can get around with his eye closed whenever Sanji is visible to him, his lack of sense of direction for sure will take a disastrous turn.
Chopper volunteered to carry his next meals - Luffy tried to too, but everyone was too smart than letting him touch food that is not on his own plate - and Sanji hopes that it will not be the only excuse to not have to see Zoro, well, just about ever again in case he is wrong.
Sanji takes his morning preparation slower than usual, but inevitably, the time eventually arrives.
Despite peeking inside his pack of cigarettes, to make sure it is not empty, he throws the one he has smoked until that moment without taking a new one; he will have to face this situation head-on.
Getting out, he moon-walks his way to the crow’s nest.
Probably sensing him in advance, Zoro is standing where he can match the line of the sun, shining through the window, while having his back to the entrance when Sanji makes its way through.
“There’s no need to test it again every day, so just leave,” Zoro asserts.
Sanji sighs, as he for once wants to listen to Zoro so much. “Not before I try something I’ve thought about.”
“And since when do you have good ideas?”
Sanji crosses his arms. “When I rescued you from Crocodile’s cage? When I delayed Enel’s ark by attacking his engines before facing him? When I opened Enis Lobby’s Gates of Justice? Starting to find a pattern yet, human-plant? ”
A few beats pass, but finally Zoro’s shoulders slump with a sigh. “Fine, you have good strategies, but only when you’re unseen. Isn’t that part of the pattern too?”
“There’s no point if I don’t return to the light again, as much as you hate it.” Sanji rounds Zoro to meet a suspicious, unwelcoming eye that hopefully only hides the truth he has once witnessed from it, back at the waterfall.  “Supposedly.”
“Eh - ?” Zoro opens his mouth to utter, luckily, and by that makes the task easier for Sanji, as he can immediately use it to grab his face and meshed his own mouth to his.
Zoro tries to hum something, but Sanji has to make sure he acts as thoroughly as possible before he is thrown away through the window, and with each press of lips tries his best to make a profound contact, so the instinct holding Zoro captive will not be able to miss it.
Once overcoming his initial surprise, Zoro starts to react back with just as much force, not willing to let him take full leading so easily.
Instead of relief, like any normal person would feel for the cooperation, Sanji actually enjoys it. Thanks to becoming breathless, though, he does not have to face the painful temptation stretch it further than needed.
He somehow remembers then that he should check the results, as it was nothing but an experiment, and start jumping between different spots around Zoro.
“What the hell?” Zoro gasps, his head moving back and forth as he tries to catch a glimpse of him.
Grinning, Sanji stands right behind him and shifts him around. “It worked!”
Zoro blinks, but then stares out of the window he is now facing, which is finally not the wrong one to him, but just another window. A smile that only a free man can make is slowly drawn across his face, and he even releases a rare laugh that pulls at Sanji’s stomach much more than it should.
“How did you know what to do?” Zoro asks him.
Sanji slowly lets go of Zoro, eyes darting elsewhere. He clears his throat and lights up a cigarette, at long last.
“Unlike what Chopper said, I don’t think I annoyed you to the point your instinct will see me as a trigger to create energy, but that your body made it figure out that this is a human body, and you need the sun mainly for warmth- although it is something you get more effectively by a contact with someone else.” Sanji walks over to a window, although not one where the sun is seen; he is not that cold. “I’m the one who happens to touch you the most, during our quarrels, so I figured that was the reason you fixed on me, so I wanted to make sure you felt my warmth as effectively as possible.”
“Body warmth, huh…” Zoro mutters behind him.
They fall into silence, which Sanji desperately wants to get away from, but has no idea how to get out. Going near Zoro, ironically, has become intolerable.
“No, it’s both,” Sanji suddenly hears the other man says behind him, following by footsteps coming closer.
Sanji takes a long drag on his cigarette, and closes his eyes.
“Whether I liked it or not, you’ve been central in my life on this ship. All the times you got me to heat up, you influenced me to train even harder. I don’t depend on it, but by this point, it is almost as vital for me as the sense of Nakamaship I’ve developed."
Sanji huffs. “The point was that you’re a muscle-brain anyway.”
“Shut up, dumbass. I’ve simply persisted to one specific path - ”
This time, Sanji snorts.
“ - which made it hard for me to see alternative ones,” Zoro finishes explaining his insight, although a bit too annoyed for someone who has experienced one. It is not like Sanji want to ruin this moment for Zoro, but he has to get back on track, right after messing with their status quo.
This is how they communicate, and this is how it shall stay. Being able to fantasize a much more meaningful future with him than with anyone he has ever attempted to attach himself to does not matter.
“But since you keep trying multiple ones for no reason,” Zoro suddenly continues, “maybe combining to find a balance it will make you finally stop pretending like another person is better than you just by being born with the right set of milk glands.”
Sanji snaps his eyes open at that, forgetting all about his discomfort he has felt until just a second ago and coming forehead-to-forehead with Zoro. “Oi, just because you don’t appreciate that doesn’t mean you can talk about it like its speciality is unadmirable like that green head of yours.”
“It doesn’t matter what it is- you can keep pampering women, if it makes you happy like cooking for anyone regardless of gender. But you can’t let this cost your self-worth.”
The smoke from Sanji’s cigarette blocks his view, so he takes it out of his mouth for now. “Well, you did help to raise it during the last few days while I was constantly reminded of that stupid mistake you’ve done on a whim that I’ll never do, and I don’t see how cherishing women is beneath that. Then what do you suggest?”
“Blocking your path and see what you do about it.”
Before Sanji knows it, Zoro’s palms are on the back of his head and he is being pushed forward until their lips meet again, though this time for something simpler that still leaves the both of them frozen to their spot for the few seconds it lasts.
Shocked, Sanji tries to connect the different points that brought them to this- because if he has kissed Zoro to help him break through the seeds’ effect, Zoro has to have his own legitimate reason for this. He may not be dumb enough to force him like that to stop his so-called women problem, but it is too surreal for him that it could be what it looks to mean. How could anyone want him and yet trust him so much that they will not care about his admiring attitude toward others?
But Zoro’s eye, while not looking at him as tenderly as one would expect from someone with sentimental meanings behind this kind of action, is assuring it in his own way by staring at him with his frank, unreserved expression.
“Finally it looks like I'm the only one who was warmed,” Zoro smirks as he trails his fingers on Sanji’s burning cheeks.
“Shut up, shitty bastard,” Sanji murmurs as he flicks his hand away, but ultimately let Zoro’s fingers to comb some of his shiny hairs.
“Same to you, asshole.”
  ~~~
  Finally able to enjoy the sun properly, Zoro thinks back to the period of his life as a wanderer, where many times he had to walk under the warmth of the sun with hunger eating him from the inside.
Later, soon after joining Luffy’s crew, not only he did not have to worry about that- but he could actually build muscle more effectively, with no worry that his body would resist it- all thanks to one pesky, obnoxious cook coming abroad.
Even if there was a proper way to truly return him the favour, Zoro is not one to express that deep kind of gratitude directly, obviously, but since he happens to be the first one to get back to the ship from a stroll, for a change - even while the sun already barely presents in the sky - and only Sanji is there, as he stayed to look after the ship, he still wants to communicate it somehow.
He finds him leaning against the railing, watching the sea, and does not turn around as Zoro gets closer. The latter embraces him from behind with one hand, and turning his hair aside with the other so he could mouth the skin behind his ear.
Sanji sunk in a sharp breath, but his voice is mostly levelled when he speaks. “Are you bored?”
Despite Sanji is still uncertain about what they have started, as it is still too fresh for him- Zoro keeps being patient about it as usual: “No.”
“Then what's that about?”
Zoro smirks into his skin. “Isn't it clear by now? Disturbing you is always too tempting.”
“I thought you prefer doing that by picking on me until we start fighting.”
“Maybe, but that's when your mood is neutral.” He slowly nips his ear shell. “Now you're peaceful.”
Sanji is right by most probably figuring out that Zoro does not really have romantic moods, where all he wants is to be the man who initiates nice settings. He is a spontaneous kind of guy: he lets life lead him to find in a new island’s market something that the cook would like to receive only by a chance, and will not pull him to a place with unconventional, noteworthy settings, whatever that counts as, as letting it naturally occur around them is much better.
Just like waterfall creating a rainbow.
But when something reminds him of Sanji, he simply cannot help but look for him, no matter whether they end up trying to tear each other’s throats - and no matter what, there are still times where the cook makes him see red - or other behaviours that have to do with their proximity which feeds his satisfaction.
Because, as great as watching the sharpness in his eyes every time he uses an opportunity to drive him up the wall- being absorbed in the warmth of his smell and taste is quite remarkable, too.
“Sun's coming down,” Sanji mentions latterly.
Zoro hums into his shoulder agreement, even though he could care less about it so long Sanji is still there.
629: "Violent Shock! Incredible News that Shakes the New World!"
Tumblr media
A rocky old place, ain’t it? No white sand beach resorts here. Lots of sunflowers, though. And a Colosseum. Even trattorias and quaint cobbled streets, according to the preview.
This is Italy, isn’t it?
Only had time for one episode but that wasn’t a problem at all. Thankfully, there was a lot to unpack in 629, plus more highlights than
There was the return of Thriller Bark. Updates on the whereabouts of key OP figures. Luffy yelling down the line at Doflamingo. The reveal of why Law is set on sailing to Dressrosa. Why Kinemon is also keen to go. The arrival of new villains. The reveal of Doflamingo’s cunning plan to snare Luffy. And the reshuffling of the Shichibukai and the appointment of a VERY FAMILIAR CLOWN.
I’m still laughing, btw.
Also have to say I liked the new opening. Seemed spoiler free and it was interesting that they have pitted Luffy so openly against Blackbeard (and Akainu, I suppose. Now there are two Big Bads. Actually beginning to wonder if there ever will be a Final Villain in One Piece).
They Call Him Scoop McGee Absalom
Tumblr media
The action picked up with the immediate aftermath of Doflamingo’s resignation from his throne and the post of Shichibukai, which sent ripples through the OPverse. Now the protection conferred by Doflamingo’s Shichibukai status had vanished, his subjects lamented, “Dressrosa is done for!”
Elsewhere, an unwinnable war raged. Unwinnable because the side in question had struck a deal with the Donquixote family. Now Doflamingo is no longer king, the supply chain has dried up.
Various famous faces who had grabbed newspapers were next. Jewelry Bonney was a nice surprise! I thought she’d been arrested by the Marines after that whole thing on the burning island with Teach. She’s obviously in hiding (standard hooded cloak) but still in action. That’s good. There was also a brief shot of Jimbei and Crocodile’s hook.
But who was the mysterious journalist behind the leaking of the Strawhearts alliance? The Kidd/Hawkins/Apoo Alliance? The fact Doflamingo had resigned both throne and warlord role?
He is known only by the name Absa.
I would have struggled to predict who Absa might have been, had they not shown a tiny Thriller Bark satellite ship.
It’s obviously Absalom. Invisibility is his thing. He’s obviously been sneaking about. For what purpose, I have no clue. Maybe Moria is out for revenge? I’m pretty certain he’s still alive as Doflamingo said he disappeared in front of his eyes. I like the thought of Moria getting angry enough to come back into the limelight. (I’m still crossing my fingers he’ll help Luffy and Law with Kaidou. Moria definitely has enough of a grudge to do it.)
We also got hard confirmation that Kidd and co. are after a Yonko. Their target is as much of a mystery to me as Luffy and Law’s is to them. (I still think it might be Shanks.)
I love it when Oda takes time to set his arcs within a wider context. Even more so now. It’s especially relevant here, given the recent emphasis on the interconnected nature of the New World.
And speaking of connections...
Hello. Is it Caesar You’re Lookin For?
Tumblr media
Once the contextualisation was out of the way, the action cut back to Sunny. At the end of 628, Doflamingo had finally picked up (after deliberately making Law wait to ramp up the tension. The theme of control is strong with this one).
Of course, Luffy had to formally introduce himself.
“HELLO. I AM LUFFY. I WILL BECOME PIRATE KING. OI, MINGO!” I love Luffy has already given him a nickname. “So you’re that idiot Caesar’s boss? That bastard hurt Brownbeard and the kids! We’ll give Caesar back since we promised but if he ever does anything like that again--” at this point Caesar himself was cringing hard in a corner “-- I’ll beat the crap out of you too!”
To his credit, Doflamingo did not rise to the bait. Sure, a few veins pop and he does questionable things when angered, but in negotiations, he remains cool as a cucumber.
“Strawhat... two years have passed since your brother died and you disappeared from the New World. Where were you and what were you doing?”
At that point, I never realised the significance of Doflamingo’s reference to Ace, so I just thought he was getting a, “Lol, ur brother is ded” dig in.
Of course, Luffy wouldn’t tell.
“I was hoping to run into you,” Doflamingo continued. “I’ve got something here that would make you drool.”
Since Luffy doesn’t do metaphors, he thought Doflamingo was talking about high-quality meats. To be fair, I had no idea what Doflamingo had up his sleeve at that point, so it could have been high-quality meats for all I knew.
Law was annoyed that Luffy had given Doflamingo the chance to control the conversation and snatched the DDM.
“Joker, we will hand over Caesar as promised.”
Doflamingo is not dumb, though. “That’s wise. You know well what would happen to you if you backed out now. First thing’s first, though. I want to confirm that my vital business partner is safe.”
Law held up the receiver. Caesar scooted over.
“JOOOOOOOKEEEEEERRR, I’M SORRYYYYYYYYYYY! YOU LOST EVERYTHING BECAUSE OF ME, BAWWWWWWW--”
And Doflamingo was like, “Yup. Sounds like he’s fine.”
I lol’d at that. (Was that a lowkey burn from Doflamingo?)
Law continued to keep matters strictly business. “In eight hours we will be on Green Bit. We’ll drop off Caesar there. Pick him up yourself. We will make no further contact.”
“Awwww...” Doflamingo retorted. “And I wanted to have a drink with you now you’re all grown up--”
At that moment, Luffy decided the conversation was at an end.“JUST HANG UP ALREADY!”
He cut the connection. The Strawhearts were left alone on deck to process what had just happened. Sanji was smart about a loophole Law had left in negotiations. Law had never specified how many people could accompany Doflamingo to pick up Caesar. Theoretically, Doflamingo could arrive with an army at his back.
Law wasn’t worried. The Caesar handover was just a distraction. (Rather bold of him to discuss this in front of Caesar himself, by the way.) Destroying the Smile factory was the real mission. The only issue? Law has no info on the factory. I’m assuming they’ll have to infiltrate Dressrosa and locate the place.
Luffy was like, “You ever been to Dress Roba?” (Lmao, I’m sure he’ll get the name right eventually.)
Interestingly, Law said he had never been! There go my theories of Law growing up in Dressrosa and working for Doflamingo. :(
He definitely hates Doflamingo, though. His reasons for not stepping foot on Dressrosa? “He is king of that land.” Something has gone on between them in the past. Doflamingo has known Law since he was a kid. So did Vergo. What is the connection here??
At any rate, Luffy was blase about the whole affair. Infiltrating hostile territory to find and destroy a factory that will cause shit to hit the fan and draw the ire of the entire New World? Yeah, let’s just make up a plan as we go!
For Law, who is a clever, patient and careful man, this was just too much.
As the Strawhats filed past him into the kitchen for sandwiches, he stared with the vacant expression of a man who has stared into the depths of the abyss and found Luffy’s grinning face staring back.
He snapped.
“I HATE BREAD!!”
Then you have have a gluten free wrap, Law. Chill. Everything’s going to be fine.
At least, I think.
In the kitchen, away from Caesar’s sensitive ears, they discussed where they would dock and other important initial steps of their master plan. Kinemon also revealed why he wanted to travel to Dressrosa.
Apparently, they had set out for a place called Zou but were shipwrecked. Only one of the other samurai reached the shore with Kinemon and Momo. Doflamingo’s people pursued them. Momo tried to slip unnoticed onto a ship but it unfortunately sailed straight for Punk Hazard. Their other companion, Kanjuuro, was taken prisoner.
Law was interested in the whole Zou thing, as he had planned to travel straight there to reunite with his crew (Yay! They’re okay!) after taking care of business in Dressrosa.
Luffy was like, “EXCELLENT! WE’LL GO TO ZOU, THEN TO WANO KINGDOM. I WILL SAVE YOUR COMPANION TOO!”
And Brook randomly farted right in the middle of it, lmao.
There’s a Starman, Waiting in the Sky
Tumblr media
And while Luffy and Law were busy making plans for Nigel, an Important Meeting was taking place at Marineford.
A grave Marine called Brannew took the podium in front of a room full of serious-looking, high-rankers (Brannew, get it? He’s a Brannew Marine to the story, ahahaha.)
“As you all know,” he announced, “there are only seven Shichibukai. They are pirates who have been given permission to plunder by the World Government. In return, they grant us overwhelming power and prestige. Their allegiance to the World Government instills fear in pirates around the world.”
A line up of the more recent Famous Faces flashed across the screen.
Mihawk, Kuma, Hancock, Law, Donquixote Doflamingo, “The Celestial Yaksha” (I have yet to google that to find out what it means) and a newcomer.
Who was this newcomer?
He is the man who rapidly grew strength over the past two years. Commander of the Pirate Dispatchment Org and Living Legend: THE STAR CLOWN BUGGY!!
I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN!!
Of course it could be no one else that Buggy! Who else would have such INCREDIBLE, BEWILDERING LUCK!
Even Buggy admitted he was totally winging it. “It’s not like I asked for this. The World Government kept bugging me so I had no choice. That said, this is only a rung on the ladder. I’m moving up in the world now. In a few years, I’ll be a Yonko.”
And you know what?
I believe it.
Only Buggy would be able to become a Shichibukai by accident. Why not a Yonko too? The World Government must be pretty desperate to fill spare seats if they asked Buggy.
The serious Marine also spoke of the grave situation surrounding Doflamingo’s sudden resignation. Law’s activity and alliance with Luffy is under suspicion. Depending on what he does next, Law may be stripped of his title too.
Akainu agreed. “We cannot allow Law and Strawhat to do as they please. Smoker from G5 sent me a rather annoying message yesterday. We should observe the situation for another day. I have dispatched Fujitora.”
A couple of things.
Did Smoker send Akainu a message from Kuzan? Is that why the message was “annoying”? Maybe it’s both inconvenient (bad news) and annoying (it came from his old rival).
Who is Fujitora? A new Marine villain, high on Justice? I can but hope.
At any rate, the Marines are also on the move and are watching events in Dressrosa closely. This is good. The more conflict, the better!
You Magnificent Bastard
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, in sunny Dressrosa, Doflamingo was also cooking up plans and future conflicts of his own.
In his palace, Doflamingo sauntered down a long corridor and entered a room with four high-backed chairs carved into card suits. As he is the Joker, I’m guessing Doflamingo has a theme going.
He apologised for keeping the others waiting. We only met two of the suit card squad. Diamante and Trebol. Trebol occupies the Clubs suite chair and is creepy. He does not understand personal space bubbles (even with Doflamingo) and he keeps insisting Baby 5 wants to marry him (creepy). His Devil Fruit power is also slightly gross (he blorts everywhere) and he has a perpetual hang snot. Not my kind of villain.
Diamante is at least funny. Example:
Doffy: “The colosseum is as popular as ever. That is thanks to you, Diamante.” Diamante: “Not at all, Doffy.” (I love that they call him Doffy.) “This is due to your charisma as king.” Doffy: “No, it’s because of your talent.” Diamante: “Oh, stop talking like I’m some hero of the colosseum.” Doffy: “But you are.” Diamante: “You exaggerate!” Doffy: “Fine, you’re not.” Diamante: “OKAY. IF YOU INSIST. I AM INDEED THE HERO RAAAARRR!”
Lmao.
That was weirdly humanizing. I get that Doflamingo is the villain here and he has no qualms over sacrificing his people if it needs to happen, but he knows these guys pretty well and gets on with them. Maybe it’s successfully manipulating them, sure, but the man still has social skillz.
Once the comedy moment with Diamante was over, Doflamingo asked Trebol to bring forth the Important Thing.
Trebol handed Doflamingo a mysterious box. “This is sure to pique Strawhat’s interest,” he said. “Their alliance can very easily become a disadvantage to them. I will entrust this super important box to you, Diamante.”
After some funny reverse psychology back and forth, Diamante agreed.
Then Doflamingo made the Big Reveal. The Big, Glowing, Shiny Reveal.
When he said he had something that interested Luffy, he wasn’t lying.
But it wasn’t high-quality meat.
He has Ace’s fruit.
And he is going to use it as leverage to break up Luffy and Law’s alliance.
What a magnificent bastard.
Never Say Never Say Never
Read on AO3            Support Me on Ko-Fi
Sabo misses one New Year's party and apparently he misses all the important family updates.
A lot of people wanted to know how Sabo felt about this dating thing, so here’s a quick one-shot of him finding out.
“Koala,” Sabo protested in a tone that was definitely not a whine, “I have to go. Do you know how much of a douche it’ll make me if I’m late to my own brother’s birthday dinner?”
Koala added another laptop charger to the bundle already in his arms. “No one in your family has ever been on time for anything. You’ll live.”
Sabo scowled at her, though it didn’t matter because she’d already gone back to rummaging around in the cabinets. “I thought deep cleans were supposed to be done in the spring.”
“It’s the new year, Sabo. I’ve put up with all of this garbage for too long. You said you’d help me clear it out, and now you’re going to.”
Sabo frowned down at the steadily growing pile of wires and cords and boxes and who knew what else that kept appearing from their apparently bottomless cabinets. “I didn’t think you meant on the first. It’s a holiday, you know.” He was not pouting.
“Only for white collar workers.” Koala reemerged and added several more cords to Sabo’s arms. “There. Finally. What, were they breeding in there?”
“They must have been. I don’t think we have a phone that goes with that one,” Sabo said, nodding vaguely to one of the charger cords.
Koala waved him off. “Go see which of those don’t work and then you can go.”
“I don’t remember you getting promoted over me, Koala.”
She raised an eyebrow and held eye contact with him for an impressively long time. Sabo could withstand one of her stares better than anyone else she knew. Sometimes he could even outlast her.
Not today though, apparently. “Alright, alright,” he said, surrendering. “What are you doing?”
She gestured at the main computer. “Clearing all the useless files off of this thing. So be glad I gave you the easy job, okay?”
Sabo stuck his tongue out at her and went to find an outlet to start testing the cords in.
It wasn’t too bad, once he started working at it. Half the cords could be tossed out without being tried; they were frayed or cracked or had tooth marks (from what, Sabo couldn’t even guess). A few were a pain, sending him on a wild goose chase for something to plug them into, but he was still done in under forty-five minutes, leaving him with plenty of time to meet Luffy and Ace at Sanji’s restaurant, as long as he got a decent cab driver. He'd mostly said he might be late in the hopes of convincing Koala to let him skip out on helping her clean.
“I’m leaving, Koala!” he shouted back into the store, front door already half open, not intending to give her a chance to find something else for him to do.
“I expect you to come in early tomorrow to help me finish!” she yelled back, and Sabo shut the door in a hurry, already planning to insist he’d been gone before she’d said it.
He loved his job, and he loved Koala, but he wasn’t going to spend one second more cleaning than he absolutely had to. That wasn’t why he’d joined up.
Knowing Koala would likely blow a gasket if she was bothered by someone who didn’t know how to read a CLOSED sign, Sabo locked the door behind him and made sure the sign announcing the store as DRAGON ELECTRONICS was turned off before turning to find a cab.
He’d probably have been more willing to help Koala clean if they’d been cleaning stuff up in the important parts of the store. Down in the basement - which was actually a much nicer workspace than the store above - shredding documents they no longer needed and couldn’t risk anyone finding, organizing files that had been left scattered across desks for far too long, or checking that the computers were still up to date and secure.
Sabo didn’t know how the electronics store itself, which was just a cover for an entirely different sort of business, could possibly have generated so much clutter in just a year. It rarely even got more than two customers in a day, though those customers had an uncanny ability to walk in at the worst possible times. Listening to people complain about their computers catching viruses from visiting sites they had no business visiting was a drag at the best of times; it was worse when they had ten minutes to get out of the building before their chance to get corrupt-rich-bastard-of-the-month taken down vanished.
Sabo shook his head to clear it. He had to be careful about thinking about work while outside of work, or he ran the risk of saying something he shouldn’t in front of Ace and Luffy - and once Luffy knew a secret it was only a matter of time before the word spread. He could be persuaded to keep his mouth shut if one could impress the seriousness of the secret on him, but Sabo would prefer to just avoid the problem altogether.
Ace, meanwhile, would probably burst a blood vessel if he ever found out that Sabo’s ‘boring IT desk job’ was a cover for what could generously be called a vigilante gig. His big brother instincts tended to only kick on in extreme situations, but Sabo was willing to bet committing felonies would be enough to set them off. And Ace would notice if Sabo let something slip that he hadn’t meant to, unlike Luffy, who could be easily distracted.
Sabo was just grateful that Garp rarely came up to visit for anything besides Christmas, maybe Thanksgiving, and a summer camping trip. He’d kick Sabo’s ass through half the city if he knew what Sabo really did for a paycheck.
So Sabo carefully but quickly, with the efficiency that came from years of practice, boxed up all of his thoughts about work that went beyond ‘Koala’s making me help her clean the store and it’s a nightmare’. By the time the cab stopped at the curve Sabo was fully back into the persona of ‘the best behaved brother’, a position he had worked hard to maintain. He would also argue he deserved it even with his job - he may have been breaking the most laws of the three of them, but he had better intentions than either of his ‘chaos storm’ brothers, as Dadan had used to call them. And everyone always said that he was the most polite.
Sabo entered the restaurant and made his way to the usual table, where Ace and Luffy were already sitting, Luffy staring towards the kitchen with laser focus.
“Look at you two, being on time for once,” Sabo teased with a grin.
Ace was frowning at Luffy rather than joining him in staring at the kitchen in anticipation, which struck Sabo as odd. All three of them tended to hyper-focus on food, and it was generally a bad sign when something could distract them from it.
“Marco gave us a ride,” Ace told him, still eyeing Luffy, tone distracted. “He had to come out this way anyway, to talk to Doma about one of the dogs.”
“So he dragged your asses out of the house kicking and screaming, I take it?”
Ace finally looked at him, grinning a little. “Luffy went kicking and screaming. I can be easily bribed.”
Sabo knew it. Marco didn’t seem to have a lot of interest in getting Ace to do much of anything most of the time, but when he was interested Ace rarely lasted more than a few minutes against him. Sabo figured that was probably a good thing - if Ace was allowed to run out the full gambit of his stubbornness his partner would probably murder him in cold blood. And he’d deserve it.
Sabo slid into the booth next to Ace, sidling up closer to his brother than he usually did. Being close to any of the three brothers during a meal was dangerous - every one of them had bitten at least one person who had gotten too close to their food over the course of their lives. Most often, it had been each other. Luffy was lucky to not have scars in the shape of Ace’s teeth marks.
But food hadn’t arrived yet, so Sabo was safe for a little while longer. And Luffy was thoroughly distracted by the prospect of dinner incoming, so he was unlikely to eavesdrop.
Not that Luffy was much good at eavesdropping anyway. Eavesdropping required at least a little bit of subtlety, and Luffy and subtle didn’t have so much as a passing acquaintanceship.
“What’s going on?” Sabo asked in a low voice, just loud enough for Ace to hear over all the background noise of the restaurant.
“Huh?”
Sabo rolled his eyes. “You’re looking at Luffy like he’s grown an extra head. What’d he do?” Sabo would have thought they were immune to Luffy’s oddities by now. Sabo had over a decade’s worth of exposure, and Ace had twice that. What could Luffy pull out of his hat that wasn’t some variation on something they’d seen a hundred times before?
Ace shook his head. “You are not going to believe this.”
There wasn’t much Sabo wasn’t ready and willing to believe in. “Try me.”
Ace shook his head harder. His expression was complicated - Ace’s expressions often were - but Sabo had had years and years to learn how to read them. There was fondness, exasperation, a little bit of annoyance, and a lot of disbelief. “Luffy’s dating someone.” He kept his voice low, so that Luffy - now chatting to one of the waiters who had made the mistake of passing too close to their table while collecting empty glasses - wouldn’t hear him, but the words seemed to burst out of him all the same.
Sabo raised an eyebrow. “Dating someone?” he repeated. That didn’t seem likely at all. Luffy had never once expressed an interest in dating. He was scornful of soulmate bonds, and beyond that he’d always seemed vaguely skeptical of the idea of romance or crushes. He’d certainly never showed any interest in trying it out for himself.
Ace nodded. “You remember that doctor with the gang tattoos?”
Sabo considered once more telling Ace that he was in no position to be judging other people’s tattoos, but decided it wasn’t really the time. “Yeah, the one whose dog we watched at Christmas, right?”
“That’s him.”
“What about him?” Sabo glanced at Luffy - if Sanji didn’t hurry up with dinner he was going to break into the kitchen - and back at Ace. “Luffy’s not…?”
“Yeah. Announced it last night. This morning. Whatever. At the party.”
Ace and Luffy had spent last night - New Year’s eve - at Whitebeard’s place, at one of their impressive parties. Sabo hadn’t gone, desperate to catch up on his sleep after a string of bad luck had nearly landed Hack in prison. And then he'd been nice and come in to help Koala with the cleanup from all that, and she'd tricked him into helping her clean up the literal mess of the storefront. See if he every volunteered to help her with something again.
“How long has that been going on?”
Ace shrugged one shoulder. “Not that long. At Christmas I - Luffy, where do you think you’re going?”
Luffy had sprung up from the table. “I’m gonna go find Sanji.”
There was no time to protest. Luffy could really move when he wanted to, even if he wasn’t actually running. He was halfway across the restaurant before Sabo or Ace had finished hearing what he’d said.
Ace waved him off. “He’s lucky he’s got a friend who’s a cook. Anyone else would have banned him ages ago.”
Sabo laughed. “Pretty sure he is banned from every restaurant between here and our place.”
“Probably. Anyway, as I was saying - I ran into the guy at Chopper’s birthday party. Law was getting fucking smashed at the bar, having a crisis about soulmates.” He looked at Sabo expectantly.
Sabo looked back, confused, for a few long seconds, and then his eyes widened. “Luffy’s that guy’s soulmate?” It shouldn’t have surprised him so badly, really. Just because Luffy didn’t have a soulmate didn’t mean anything about someone else having him for one. But it was still strange to even imagine.
It wasn’t personal towards Trafalgar Law. Sabo would have felt equally shocked no matter who Ace had said it was. With the possible exception of Zoro. Sabo could have believed Zoro had Luffy for a soulmate, he thought. But the idea of anyone else made his brain buck a little.
“Yeah. Not even two weeks after Trafalgar gets done telling me about how he can’t ever see himself dating his soulmate he’s sitting on our fucking couch holding Luffy’s hand, with Luffy’s damn name written on his arm.”
Sabo paused a second, distracted from the point. “It’s Luffy’s name? That’s his soulmate mark?”
“Yeah. So?”
“Nothing, it’s just…” Sabo laughed a little. “God, that’s so cliche.”
Ace smirked, and it broadened until he was laughing too. “Christ , I know, right? Poor guy. He said it didn’t start as Luffy’s name, but can you imagine going through life with something that boring for your soulmate mark and then that comes hurtling into your life?” When he said ‘that’ he gestured towards the kitchen, where Luffy was no doubt making a nuisance of himself.
The two of them laughed, trying to be quiet at first, then realizing Luffy wasn’t there to overhear and demand to know what was so funny, and they grew louder and louder until they were doubled over the table, clutching their sides and getting funny, judgmental looks from the other restaurant patrons.
Sabo recovered first, wheezing and hiccuping back to sanity in fits and bursts. “Okay, okay,” he managed, struggling not to start laughing all over again at the sight of Ace still giggling to himself. “Does Luffy at least seem happy with him?”
Ace shrugged. “Dude, it’s Luffy. He seems happy with everyone.”
That was a fair point. “Happy dating him. Like, Law’s not being… I don’t know, weird about it? He’s not trying any shit about how Luffy has to do whatever he wants because he’s his soulmate?” It was hard to imagine Luffy allowing somebody to be a dick to him for any reason, soulmate mark included, but Sabo was his older brother. He was supposed to worry about things like that.
“Not that I saw.” Ace took a drink of water and reached for the table’s pitcher to refill his glass. “I don’t even know if Luffy knows they're soulmates.”
“Should we tell him?”
Ace shrugged again, but with a more serious look on his face this time. This was one of the things he’d been thinking about while he’d been staring at Luffy. “I don’t know. You’re better at this relationship crap. What do you think?”
“How am I the one who’s good at relationships? Apparently, I’m the only single one.”
Ace made a broad, vague gesture with one arm. “Not just dating. You’re better with people. It’s why you’re in retail.”
Sabo was nowhere near good enough with people to really be in retail, but he didn’t say so to Ace. “This just started last night?” he asked instead.
“Yeah, far as I know. And like I said, Trafalgar was having his life crisis at Christmas time, so it couldn’t have been much longer than that anyway.”
Sabo glanced back towards the kitchen. Luffy had reappeared, walking backwards, as though he had to guide Sanji to their table. “Let’s give him a couple of days. If he doesn’t tell Luffy about it, we’ll know he’s a bastard, and we’ll send his ass back to kingdom come.”
“And if he does tell Luffy?”
“Then we’ll play it by ear. Come on, this is Luffy we’re talking about. If Law pisses him off we’ll be able to hear him complaining about it from space.”
Luffy reached the table, Sanji and dinner in tow, and Sabo slid a safe distance away from his brother. It wasn’t surprising that Ace was so concerned. In addition to his - their whole family’s - complicated tangle of emotions regarding soulmate bonds, Ace just didn’t trust other people very easily, particularly not where his brothers were concerned. He was always worrying about the sort of people Luffy was hanging out with, if they were trustworthy, if they might take advantage of Luffy’s friendly, trusting nature.
Sabo worried about that sometimes, but mostly he tended to worry about what he considered to be more realistic concerns - like Luffy falling off a building while parkouring around town and splitting his head open on the concrete. Maybe dating a doctor would be for the best.
“So, Luffy,” Sabo said as the three of them began digging into their dinners. “I hear you have a boyfriend?”
Despite having his mouth full, Luffy grinned.
