He had requested a single room, determined to focus on his school work, get out of university housing as quickly as possible, and start his real life, but of course, on August 1st he received the obligatory "Get to know your new roommate this summer! You can contact Luke Hemmings, freshman student, at his school email..." message in his inbox.
Whatever. Let's just get this year over with.

Coy Fish - @daydadahlias (cornflowerblue (daydadahlias)) calum/ashton E, 19k
Summary: “Please don’t fuck our yoga instructor.” Michael massages his forehead, eyes squinting shut. “We’ll lose our discount.”
But that certainly won't keep Calum from trying.
Crossfire (ao3) - cthink michael/calum, luke/ashton N/R, 9k
Summary: Today was the day. There was no going back on the plan now. After months of preparation, they were finally going to escape. They were finally going to be free.

hello, hello (ao3) - bellawritess luke/ashton, michael/calum T, 30k
Summary: For one long, blinking minute, Luke stares at Ashton and wonders if he’s hallucinating. Because that’s definitely Ashton. That’s Ashton Irwin, his former best friend from Sunny Days, the show they co-starred on as children.
But it’s also definitely Ashton Fletcher, professional film actor worth many millions, possibly hundreds of millions, of dollars, standing on his doorstep, wind ruffling his hair.
if i knew from the start, would it change a thing? (ao3) - acetominophen luke/ashton N/R, 35k
Summary: "All I painted was you, Ash. It was always you." But Ashton wasn't listening to him at all. His silver-lined eyes were trained on the hand-written words at the bottom of the canvas, unblinking.
Luke's gaze followed his and his lips parted because shit, he'd forgotten. He'd forgotten that he'd titled this one.
'Poisoned myself again. LH'.
Artist!Luke Cowboy!Ashton
if you're going to san francisco (ao3) - HeyHeyArnold, mukelftv ot4 M, 10k

Lullaby (ao3) - thesaltyspice calum/ashton N/R, 4k
Summary: Calum hosts an anonymous radio show and Ashton is obsessed
Mixology (ao3) - dafeedil luke/ashton, michael/calum E, 23k
Summary: In which Michael is reeling from a recent breakup, Calum has just flunked a semester of university, Luke has never taken a risk in his life, and Ashton has taken too many.
One night, four boys, one Los Angeles bar. A recipe for...well, quite possibly, not disaster.
(or, they all meet at a bar and fall hopelessly in love for the night. Only, it's actually a lot more than that.)
Playing With Chemistry (ao3) - fourdrunksluts michael/ashton, luke/calum E, 17k
Summary: It's the busiest week of the year at the escape room Ashton manages, and it's hard enough without Michael Clifford tempting him at every turn.
Scene 14 - @daydadahlias (cornflowerblue (daydadahlias)) luke/ashton E, 128k
Summary: It's one of the first lessons you learn. There’s a difference between performing and acting.
Actors are intellectuals; they’re poets with their expression and the way their voices hit the air. Performers, by comparison, are children, ignorant and too bright for their own good. No one wants to admit to being only a performer. If you’re anyone worth anything, you want to be an actor.
And Luke is not an actor, but Ashton is.
Or, the one where Luke hates Ashton but has to pretend to be in love with him for five months for his acting final except for the fact that maybe he isn't pretending anymore.
Survivor's Guilt - @daydadahlias (cornflowerblue (daydadahlias)) calum/ashton T, 9k
Summary: No one's left but the three of them. Just Ashton, Calum, and his tiny yappy dog.
Oh, and all the zombies, obviously.
takeoffs and landings (ao3) - galacticsugar luke/ashton T, 7k
Summary: It’s been Monday for an entire week. This might sound like an exaggeration. Like something Ashton would say to Calum after a long day at work. But it’s really just Ashton’s life right now.
***
a time loop soulmate au.
That's Money, Honey (ao3) - senioritastyles luke/calum, ashton/ofc E, 22k
Summary: "Excuse me?" Calum calls, gesturing for the bartender and waiting for him to come over before continuing. "Who is that, over there? The boy on stage."
Michael doesn't even have to look, already smiling and nodding as he tops off Calum's already half-gone whiskey. "That's Luke." Michael explains and Calum nods, sipping at his whiskey again as he watches Luke dance, body swaying fluidly in front of several men dressed pretty similarly to how Calum is. "He tends to attract the uh, black card crowd." Michael says, handing Calum back his own black card.
Or: Calum makes Luke his sugar baby.
there’s no need to run and hide (when the world leaves a scar) (ao3) -haveufoundwhaturlookingfor luke/ashton, michael/calum T, 10k
Summary: Luke is a new intern, and he gets along with pretty much everyone he works with. Well, everyone except for Ashton Irwin. Ashton is cold, and doesn’t give him the time of day. Certain events keep on bringing the two together whether they like it or not, and eventually, Luke finds out why Ashton is so cold.
two can play that game (but you win me every time) (ao3) - galacticsugar luke/calum T, 10k
Summary: When Calum tells people he works at IKEA, people tend to respond enthusiastically. Some of them joke, did you have to learn Swedish?, or make a crack about the meatballs. Some of them ask how many marriages he’s seen end amongst the aisles. Basically, everyone turns into a comedian the moment Calum mentions his job.
walmart sonata (ao3) - kaleidoscopeminds Luke/Calum M, 33k
Summary: Luke shakes his head. He doesn’t really understand Calum. What is this beautiful man doing being sweet and kind to him in the Walmart he works at several times a week? Luke’s life doesn’t include things like this. He just smiles at Calum slightly disbelievingly, it's not like Calum will ever really see him perform. He’s just a hot stranger from his grocery store.

Holiday Series - Luke
Tumblr media
[Michael] [Calum] [Ashton]
Pairing: Luke Hemmings/ Female OC
Requested By: N/A
Word Count: 3,974
Summary: Coffee shop AU in which barista Luke get stuck working on Christmas.
Luke sighed as he checked the time on his watch. 8:42 am. Less than an hour into his shift and he was seriously contemplating closing up and telling his boss where to shove it. But he couldn’t do that, and he knew it. As much as this job sucked, it was the only one he could find in the city that allowed him enough time off to travel back home a few times a year, so he needed to keep it.
He picked up an old blue rag and began to wipe down an espresso machine when the bell above the door chimed. The cheerful sound signaled to Luke the first customer of the day. He looked up to the door and saw a girl walking through it, a few stray snowflakes following her inside before she was able to close the door behind her.
Her shoulder length brown hair was contained beneath a grey beanie that matched the scarf that she held tightly around her neck. Luke watched her shiver slightly as she stood in front of the closed door, the heat of the coffee shop warming her from the Christmas snow storm that had been raging outside since the night before. Her eyes closed for a moment as she took a deep breath before slowly unwrapping the scarf around her neck and removing it.
She opened her eyes and directed her attention to Luke behind the counter. He felt his breath catch in his throat as she smiled at him from across the room. She pulled off her black mittens, shoving them into the pocket of her coat as she made her way to the counter. Luke suddenly became very aware of the coffee stain on his blue apron and the fact that he’d barely put any effort into getting ready this morning. He ran a hand through his long, blond curls in an attempt to tame them, even though he knew that they always had a mind of their own.
“Morning.” Luke offered with a smile as she got closer to him. Her own smile grew as she greeted him in kind.
“Good morning!” Her voice was soft and sweet, almost like a song in a way that Luke couldn’t quite put his finger on. “You have no idea how glad I am that you’re open today.” She sighed, pulling her wallet from the bag slung over her shoulder.
“Yeah, I guess someone needs to keep the people caffeinated, even on Christmas.” Luke laughed. She giggled along with him, the corners of her lips pulling up just slightly more than they already were. He couldn’t help but to notice that her giggle was somehow even prettier than her speaking voice. The way it fell so easily from her lips made him want to hear it over and over again. “So, uh, what can I get ya?” He asked, his hands gripping the sides of the register a little too tight.
“Uh, just a venti latte, please.” She answered, looking away from him to the wallet in her hand. He rang in her order and read out her total. He pulled his hand away from hers quickly, nearly dropped her money when she handed it to him. She smiled at him again as he handed her change back to her.
“And a name?” Luke asked her, picking up a cup and pulling a marker from the pocket of his apron.
She looked over her shoulder to the empty coffee shop with another giggle. “Are you afraid you’re gonna give it to the wrong person?” She asked, raising her eyebrows as she faced him again.
He felt his cheeks go warm at her question. A small chuckle fell from his lips as he dropped his chin to his chest. “Sorry,” He said. “It’s a habit.”
“It’s fine.” She told him, waving her hand. “It’s Ariel.”
Fuck, even her name is pretty. Luke smiled to himself as he jotted her name on the side of the paper cup. She removed her beanie, running a hand through her hair as she walked to the other end of the counter.
“So, how’d you get stuck working Christmas?” She asked him, leaning over the counter and resting on her elbows as she watched him prepare her drink.
Luke shrugged his broad shoulders, not looking up from his task as he answered. “I usually end up working holidays because I don’t have any family here in the states to spend them with.”
Ariel put a hand over her heart as she pouted her lips. “Oh my, that is so sad.” She sighed. “I mean, my family is far away, too. But I can usually get back to visit them for holidays.”
“Are you from out of town?”
“Oh, yeah.” She laughed. “A tiny little town near Boston.”
Luke hadn’t been expecting that. He finished her drink, capping it before sliding it across the counter to her waiting hands. “So why aren't you there for Christmas?”
This time, it was her turn to shrug. “I'm, like, extra poor this year.” Luke raised his eyebrows as he nodded, that was definitely a struggle that he understood. “Plus, I'm Jewish.”
“Mazel tov!” Luke exclaimed, throwing his hands up next to his face.
Ariel dropped her face, looking down at the paper cup in her hands as she laughed out loud. “Do you even know what that means?” She questioned when she looked back up at him.
“I, uhh…” Luke stammered for a moment, fiddling with the edge of his apron before answering with a giggle. “No, I don't.”
She laughed again at his answer. Her lips pulling up high on her cheeks, showing off her teeth as she smiled up at him. The sound filled Lukes ears and he felt his chest swell with pride that he was able to pull such a beautiful sound from her.
“So how’d you end up in Chicago?” Luke asked once her laugh had subsided.
“School, originally. Ended up dropping out, though.” She answered with a smile. “How about you?”
“Oh, I wanted to be in a band. It wasn’t working out back home, so I packed up and moved here a few years ago. I was completely convinced I’d go back a home a rockstar.” He finished, laughing at himself and his own naivety.
“I take it the band thing didn’t work out?”
“Kind of did for a while, actually.”
“So what happened? Why aren’t you a rockstar?” She asked him as she stood up straight.
“Egos.” He answered simply. “Mine and theirs. They’re still great guys, we just didn’t get on well.”
Ariel nodded, bringing her cup to her lips. Luke watched as she cautiously sipped the hot drink. Her eyes fell closed again and Luke took a moment to appreciate the way the lights in the shop caught the slight shimmer in her nude eyeshadow.
“Well, at least you’re still young.” She told him as she pulled the cup away from her lips, taking a step back from the counter. “There’s still time, rockstar.” She winked at him before turning away. Luke felt his stomach tie itself into about fifteen different knots at the sight.
She took a few steps away from him, stopping at the nearest table and setting her drink down. She began to shrug her coat from her shoulders, revealing an emerald green sweater that hugged her frame beautifully. “Mind if I hang out here for a bit?” She asked. “It’s like the end of the world out there.”
“Fine by me.” Luke answered with a smile. She hung her coat on the rack by the door and sat down at her table, pulling a book from her bag and opening it. The pair were silent for a while. Nothing but the sounds of people outside, snow crunching beneath boots, and the playlist of Christmas songs playing on the speakers around the coffee shop.
The silence was somehow comfortable and unbearably awkward all at once. At least, that was how it felt from Luke’s point of view. Ariel sat at her table, her legs crossed beneath it as she read her book and sipped at her coffee. Since he was on the clock, Luke was trying to find something to fill his time on the off chance that his boss made an appearance. He picked up a broom from the back room and walked into the shop.
“Is this your way of telling me to beat it?” Ariel asked with a smile when he started to sweep up.
“What? No, of course not.” Luke stammered. Why was he so eager for her to stay? He didn’t know her. Hell, they’d barely even spoken since she walked in half an hour ago. “Just, uh, trying to keep busy.”
“Ya know, if you wanted to take a break, I promise I won’t tell on you.”
Once again, Luke felt his cheeks heat up as she spoke to him. He smiled as he leaned the broom against a wall and walked over to where she sat. He put his hand on the back of the chair across from her. “Do you mind?”
“Not at all.” She answered. She placed her bookmark into the spine of her book before closing it and setting it down on the table between them. “I’m sorry, but I have to ask. Where is home for you? I’ve been trying to place your accent and I just can’t figure it out.”
“Australia.” He answered with a chuckle. “West Sydney, specifically.”
“Really? You don’t sound very much like Steve Irwin.”
“Ouch.” Luke whined, putting his hand over his heart and furrowing his brows.
“Sorry!” Ariel said, reaching across the table and placing her hand on his arm.
Luke’s smile quickly grew to a toothy grin as he looked down to where her hand rested delicately on his wrist. “It’s fine. Every time I go home all I hear from my family is that I need to move back because I’m getting an American accent.” Ariel laughed at him. She removed her hand from his wrist and he instantly felt less whole at the loss of her soft touch.
“I don’t know if I’d say it’s quite an American accent.” She said, picking up her cup and bringing it to her lips again. She took a long drink, licking her lips as she set the cup back on the table between them. “But then again, I never got to hear your accent before so who am I to say?”
“If you’ve ever been to Sydney, especially West Sydney, you’ll know that they definitely don’t sound like this.”
“I haven’t been. But I’d love to visit someday, when money isn’t so tight.” She sighed. “I want to see the world. All of it. Every nook and cranny of the every beautiful city the world has to offer.”
“You sound like me.” He said with a grin. “That was one reason I wanted to be in a band, actually. See the world, meet new people, experience new cultures.”
“Well, if the band thing works out, I volunteer to be your merch girl. You don’t even have to pay me.” She said with a laugh as she pushed some hair from her face. “Just take me around the world.”
“Deal.” He answered. “And hey, even if the band doesn’t work out, I’d still happily be your tour guide around Sydney when you go.”
“Well, how can I say no to being shown around a foreign country by a native?”
“I guess you can't.” He told her with a beaming grin.
Just as Ariel was about to speak again, the bell above the door chimed for a second time. Both Luke and Ariel jumped at the sudden interruption. A middle aged man in a long tan coat walked in, shutting the door quickly.
“Storm of the century out there.” The older man said as he walked to the counter. Luke stood from his seat and walked to the back of the counter to help the man. He placed his order, paid, and turned back to Ariel. “Have you been out there?” He asked her.
“Yeah, a little bit earlier. Been here about 45 minutes, though.”
Luke finished pouring his coffee, capping it and sliding it across the counter in same fashion he'd done for Ariel. The man thanked Luke and started towards the door. “If you'll take a nickel's worth of free advice, I'd stay in here as long as he will let you.” He told her, nodding his head to Luke who still stood behind the counter. “It's getting worse out there by the minute.” Ariel smiled at him and offered a silent nod as he opened the door and walked back into the storm.
“Looks like you might be stuck with me for a while, rockstar.” Ariel said as the door closed.
“Could be worse.” Luke shrugged. “At least I've got some company. Hey, you want a refill while I'm back here? On the house.”
“I will never say no to free coffee.” Ariel answered, smiling as she tucked a piece of hair behind her ear once again.
Luke returned her smile quickly before turning his attention to making her a fresh drink. He found himself being extra careful while he made it. For some reason, he was sure that if this drink wasn't exactly perfect, she'd leave before he wanted her to. And he just couldn't have that.
He finished the drink and set it in front of her, picking up her cold drink and throwing it away for her. He decided that he needed to find ways to stay busy again. He began wiping down already sparkling machinery and filling cream dispensers. The pair continued talking while Luke cleaned the entire shop.
They discussed their childhoods, laughing together at notable differences between growing up in America versus Australia. “Wait,” Ariel said, leaning forward, her eyes closing as she shook her head in an attempt to make sense of something Luke had just said. “They really feed that to children?”
“What?” Luke laughed. “It's just buttered bread with sprinkles.”
“I'm sorry, but that sounds disgusting.” She told him, laughing with him as she sat back in her seat. “I can't believe kids would even eat that.”
“Don't knock it till ya try it.”
“Fair enough. Maybe I'll pick up some sprinkles on my next shopping trip.”
A few hours passed when suddenly, Luke's stomach growled loudly from where he was on a step ladder cleaning windows. He checked his watch, it was after 1 p.m. It was definitely much later than he normally ate, but he hadn't even noticed that he was hungry. He was too preoccupied with Ariel and their conversations. Had she really been here for nearly four hours already?
“Hungry, rockstar?” Ariel laughed from her table as she looked up at him.
“Starving, apparently.”
“Good, because I am, too.” She smiled. “Are any restaurants even open today?”
“The chinese place down the street definitely is.” Luke answered. He stepped down from the step ladder and pulled his phone from the pocket of his apron. The part of his brain that never quite left high school wanted to ask Ariel for her number. He pushed the thought away and instead, opened his messages and began to text his order to Eric, the delivery boy from the restaurant. “Wait, you like Chinese, right?”
“Love it.”
Luke’s smile grew as he continued to type out his usual order. “What do you want?” He asked, finally looking up at her.
“Sesame chicken.”
“Rice?”
“Fried, please.”
Luke added her order to the end of his text before tacking on a few emojis and hitting send. “Should be 10 minutes, give or take.” He told her as he replaced his phone in his apron pocket and took his seat across the table from her.
“So,” Ariel started as he sat down. “Am I supposed to keep calling you ‘rockstar’ forever, or are you gonna tell me your name?”
“Luke.” He answered, his teeth showing as he laughed at her. “But if you want to keep calling me rockstar, I’m not going to stop you.”
“No,” She said, her smile growing. “I think I like Luke.” He would conservitavely guess that he’d heard his name approximately 800 billion times in his twenty-two years of life, but hearing Ariel say it for the first time? Easily one of the top five greatest sounds he had ever heard. Even if he’d tried, Luke wouldn’t have been able to contain the joyful grin that quickly covered his entire face.
A few minutes later the door to the coffee shop opened, bringing a huge gust of wind and a man carrying two plastic take out bags with it. Luke stood from his seat and walked towards the man, taking the bags from him and setting them in front of Ariel. He pulled his wallet from his back pocket and started to pull a few bills from it.
“Man, you know mom won’t let you pay.” The guy laughed, shoving Lukes hand away.
“It’s been like three years, she’s gotta let me pay eventually.”
“No, she likes you better than any of us. You’re good for life.” He said, laughing. His eyes swept over the shop before landing on Ariel. “I take it you’re the sesame chicken?” He asked with a smile.
“How’d ya know?”
“I’ve never known this one to get anything other than sweet and sour pork.”
“Interesting.” Ariel said, nodding her head. “I’ll have to keep that in mind.”
“Okay, okay. If we’re done discussing my diet, I’d like to eat now.” Luke commented as he pulled out his chair. “You hanging out?” He asked Eric, turning to look at him as he began to pull take out boxes from the bags.
“Can’t. Mom needs me back to run more deliveries. See ya.” He answered, taking a few steps towards the door.
“Later.”  Luke nodded, still unbagging your food as Eric stepped through the door.  “Hope you like egg rolls. Looks like Mama Kim hooked us up.” He laughed as he opened a box containing at least a dozen eggs rolls.
“Mama Kim, huh?” Ariel asked as she reached across the table to pluck an egg roll from the box.
“Yeah,” Luke laughed. “I met Eric like my second day in the states and his parents more or less adopted me. Good thing, too. I'd have starved to death if she didn't insist on sending me home with a months worth of food every other day.”
“She sounds sweet.” Ariel said with a smile.
“Yeah, she's the best.” Luke told her as he took a bite of his egg roll.
As they were finishing their lunch, Lukes phone began ringing from his apron pocket. He pushed his chair away from the table as he pulled his phone from his pocket. “It’s my boss.” He said to her, taking a few steps away from the table as he answered the call.
Ariel tried not to listen, sure that whatever the call was about was none of her business anyway. Instead, she focused her attention on cleaning up the takeout boxes that were scattered across the table. She dumped the boxes into a trash can next to the door just as Luke was hanging up his call.
“Did you get in trouble for sitting down at work all day?” She asked as she walked back over to him.
“No,” Luke laughed as he replaced his phone into his apron pocket. “He just wanted to know if we’d had any customers today. Told me to close up shop.”
Was he seeing things or did her smile actually drop a little?
“So you’re finally kicking me out, huh?”
“Well, technically my boss is making me kick both of us out.” He answered.
Ariel returned to her seat and started to pack up her bag. “It’s been really nice hanging out with you today, Luke.” She told him, smiling up at him from where she was stuffing her book into her bag.
“Yeah,” He returned her smile. “Today definitely turned out to be more fun than I thought it would be. I’m glad you came in.” He was searching every corner of his mind to find ways to make her stay just a little longer as he walked to the window to turn off the neon ‘OPEN’ sign. As he flipped the switch, the opening notes to Baby, It’s Cold Outside began to play over the shops sound system.
Ariel gasped from her seat and put her hand over her chest. Luke spun around quickly to look at her, caught off guard by the sudden sound. “I love this song.” She sighed, her eyes falling closed as she began to sway in her seat.
This is it. This was his chance and he knew he had to take it, or risk kicking himself in the ass for the rest of his life for letting it slip away. He took a few slow steps towards her, praying she would respond well to his plan. He listened to the song and grinned to himself as he watched her mouth along with the words.
I really can't stay.
This is it. This is his moment. He took a deep breath as the woman singing finished her line.
“But, baby, it’s cold outside.” He sang. His voice was quiet, too afraid of her reaction to sing much louder than a whisper. Ariel’s eyes shot open, her smile wider than it had been all day as she looked at him. He swore that her brown eyes actually glowed as she chimed in.
“I've got to go away.”
“But, baby, it’s cold outside.” He sang again, slightly louder this time as he put his hand out to her.
“This evening has been so very nice.” She sang back to him as she took his hand and stood in front of him.
“I’ll hold your hands, they’re just like ice.”
“My mother will start to worry.”
“Beautiful, what's your hurry?” Luke placed a cautious hand behind her back, just below her waist.
“My father will be pacing the floor.”
“Listen to the fireplace roar.” Her smile grew along with his as he started to move with her.
The pair spun in slow circles as they continued to sing the classic holiday tune to each other. At some point, Ariels free hand found its way to Lukes shoulder. This was working. He moved his hand to the middle of her back, pulling her into him just slightly.
Before he knew it, the song was coming to an abrupt end. He’d never realized how short of a song it actually is. The last lines of the song played, both of them singing the words to each other, and before he could stop himself, Luke was leaning in. His eyes closed as his face inched closer to hers. He hoped he looked cool, but every single alarm in his body was going off in that moment. The instant his lips met hers, though, all of them silenced.
It was a quick kiss, quicker than he would have liked. But it was beautiful. It was perfect. It was everything that Luke always thought a first kiss should have been. Luke felt her smiling as his lips landed on hers.
Luke broke the kiss, pulling away first. He opened his eyes to see her grinning up at him. A lock of her brown hair had fallen into her eyes. He moved his hand from her back to tuck the fallen piece behind her ear, earning an even wider grin from her as he rested his hand on her neck just below her ear.
“Smooth move, rockstar.” She whispered to him as she leaned forward, her lips pursing as she kissed him again.

I’ve Got The Recipe
Michael keeps going back to the same coffee shop and no, it has nothing to do with the cute barista.
Or 3 times Michael went to Luke's coffee shop to see him and 1 time Luke visited Michael at his job
This is for @redrattlers! Happy birthday darling! You're a sweetheart and lovely, fellow Luke fan and Muke lover. It's been a pleasure getting to know you and getting to hang out with you in The Club. I wish you the happiest of birthdays and the happiest of years! Enjoy your day you deserve it!
On ao3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/29146482/
It starts on a Wednesday. Michael’s bored, scrolling through his phone at the front desk, trying to avoid doing work. He knows he should go shelve some books, or do a lap around the library to check on things, but he can’t focus on anything. He’s trying to kill time until it’s acceptable for him to go on his lunch break and grab something to eat or drink.
“Oh god, I found the perfect drink for you,” Calum whispers next to him, tugging lightly on Michael’s sleeve. Michael frowns, glancing over at Calum, getting a phone shoved into his face in response. Michael pulls his head back, grabbing onto Calum’s wrist and trying to adjust it so he can see the screen better. It’s an instagram post on Calum’s feed, advertising a coffee from the local coffee shop. The caption claims that it’s a vanilla rose latte. Michael hates that Calum knows him well enough to know that Michael will 100% drink anything with floral flavors in it.
“Don’t act so disgusted,” Michael mumbles, shoving Calum’s phone back to him. Calum laughs.
“It’s just weird that you want to put florals in your coffee. It tastes like soap.”
“It does not. Stop insulting my taste,” Michael says, voice rising a little bit at the end of the sentence. He ducks his head when one of the reference librarians looks over at them. Calum raises his hand in apology, turning to face Michael.
“You like weird coffee. It’s nothing to be ashamed of. Just thought you might be interested. It’s that new place too. Down the road.”
“Is this your way of trying to bribe me into getting us sandwiches from the Vietnamese place for lunch?”
“Pretty please?” Calum says. Michael sighs, pretending to be put out.
“Fine. Text me your order. I’ll swing by. You owe me dinner though,” Michael says, standing up. Calum brightens up, smiling. Michael heads into the back, clocking out for his break and telling his supervisor he’s going to grab lunch. They nod, waving him out when Michael grabs his bag from his little station and heads out to his car. Michael calls in their lunch order from his car and decides to stop and grab coffee first on his way there.
Luckily, the coffee shop is a quick drive. Their town is small enough that everything sits within a ten minute drive of each other. It makes it easier to pop out and grab lunch on the days he’s too lazy to make it. Michael knows where the coffee shop is, even if he hasn’t been yet. It’s only been open for a few weeks and everytime he and Calum mean to go, they get distracted and go somewhere else or forget. Today though, Michael is determined to get his rose coffee from this place.
Michael parks in the lot, grabbing his wallet from his backpack and leaving his car, locking it behind him. He pushes open the coffee shop door, relieved to see it’s still empty and quiet inside, little bell over the door jingling.
A tall blonde man, pops his head out from behind the back area, grinning widely when he sees Michael.
“Hi! What can I get you today?” he asks, coming up to the counter, beaming. Michael’s offended that the barista is pretty and therefore, Michael has completely forgotten his order. It’s not his fault the guy is tall and blonde, with blue eyes and dimples, curls pulled back into a messy bun. His name tag reads Luke. Michael doesn’t stand a chance.
“Um, I saw your post. About the vanilla rose latte. Do you still have it? I know it’s been a few days.”
“Yes! You’re the first person to order it. I got these little sample bottles of different flavors, but so far no one has asked for it,” Luke says, beaming widely as he grabs the bottle and holds it up. Michael blushes.
“Well, I’m your guy. My friend teases me endlessly about the fact that I like adding weird flavors into my coffee.”
“You’re just the kind of guy I need then,” Luke says, winking. Michael blushes. He’s never going to be able to come back here.
“Can I get a small?”
“Sure. Regular milk fine?”
“Yeah,” Michael says. Luke rings him up, rattling off the price. Michael swipes his card, signing on the screen as Luke starts to make his drink.
“So, do you work around here?”
“Yeah, I work down the block at the local library at the front desk. Wanted to stop in on my lunch break.”
“Well, I’m glad you stopped in. I can finally tell Ashton someone likes my drink, ” Luke says, moving around behind the counter.
“Ashton?”
“My partner. Business partner. I am very single,” Luke rushes out, blushing red and turning his attention to the coffee. Michael blushes too, worried he’s been caught out staring at Luke. Just because he's a pretty guy and Michael never gets the chance to see anyone under the age of 60 who isn’t a child doesn’t give him the right to stare at Luke.
“Well, it’s a good thing you have him,” Michael piped up, blushing harder when Luke glances at him over the espresso machine, smiling.
“Yeah. He’s a wonderful friend. Terrible coworker,” Luke says. Michael laughs, earning him a wide grin from Luke.
“Well, here you go! One vanilla rose latte! You’ll have to let me know how it is,” Luke says, sliding the drink across the counter. Michael takes it, sipping from it.
“Good. The rose isn’t too overpowering. Just the right blend,” Michael says. Luke beams and it fills Michael’s chest with a flare of something. He checks his phone, swearing when he sees the time.
“I gotta go, break’s gonna be up before I know it. Thanks for the drink Luke,” he says, turning to the door. Luke calls out a goodbye behind him as Michael rushes out so he can get their sandwiches on time and make it back to work.
Michael manages to make it back to work on time with enough time to finish his sandwich. The coffee sits with him the rest of the afternoon, keeping him warm and reminding him of Luke’s smile. Maybe Michael will have to go back more often for coffee from the shop.
***
Michael lasts about three days before he goes back. It’s late Saturday morning and Michael’s finally dragged himself from his bed and his apartment to run errands on his day off. Well, run errands once he gets some coffee, which has nothing to do with wanting to see cute barista Luke again. Even if Michael’s foregoing Starbucks and Dunkin’ just to go out of his way for Luke’s little coffee shop.
Calum has teased him endlessly for the last few days about it. All it had taken was Michael mentioning that maybe the barista was cute and Calum had lost it. He keeps teasing Michael about going back just to see Luke or making dumb coffee puns for flirting. Michael’s relieved that Calum’s working today, so he can go to the coffee shop without being teased for it.
The shop is empty when Michael shows up. Granted, it's mid-morning but it’s still a Saturday. Michael was expecting a least a bit of a crowd. Not that he’s complaining. More personal time with Luke. Which, maybe Michael shouldn’t be thinking like that about the barista.
Luke’s behind the counter already this time, head popping up when he hears the bell ring. He beams widely when he sees Michael, bouncing on his heels.
“Hi! Vanilla rose guy!” He says brightly, waving as he does so. Michael blushes.
“Michael. It’s Michael. Only fair since I know yours,” Michael says, embarrassed immediately. Luke smiles, dimples popping on his cheeks.
“Nice name. Now I don’t have to call you vanilla rose guy. Ashton was starting to think I made you up just to prove my drink idea was good.”
“All real. Just back for more coffee,” Michael says. Luke’s got his hair down today, curled around the base of his neck as he grins. He has butterfly wing eyeshadow on today, orange and blacks swirled together and drawn on. It’s so enchanting, Michael can’t take his eyes off of Luke. It’s distracted him completely from placing his order, going red when he realizes he’s been standing here for a few minutes in silence, staring at Luke. Luke giggles, tucking a curl behind his ear.
“So, coffee?”
“Yes. Coffee. The thing I am here for. What flavors do you have today?”
“Vanilla, hazelnut, mocha, raspberry, caramel, and the rose one. A few other floral flavors. Nothing too exciting.”
“Will you combine something?”
“Oh?”
“The mocha and the raspberry. In a small iced coffee.”
“Oh! Yes! That sounds really good actually. Why didn’t I think of that?” Luke says, grabbing a cup and spinning around to start making it.
“I just like weird flavors is all.”
“Not that weird. Sounds pretty good. Maybe you should work in the coffee shop, not me.”
“Nah. They need me too much at the library. Who else is going to help stressed parents find the last copy of Frozen or show someone’s grandma how to use the computer?” Michael says. Luke laughs, pouring coffee from a pitcher into the cup.
“Well, I’m sure you’ve saved many a tired parent whose daughter wants to hear Let It Go for the 100th time. Are you on break today?”
“Day off. Wanted to run some errands while I’m alone, but figured coffee would be a good place to start. Library can survive without me for two days.”
“What if someone needs the last copy of Frozen?”
“Calum can help them for a day,” Michael says. Michael likes working and living with Calum, but he likes the misalignment of their off days. Michael usually gets Friday and Saturdays off and Calum usually gets Sundays and Mondays. It gives them a few days to breathe without each other and it means that for a couple days, they get to alternate who cooks instead of them rushing to finish cooking one meal together. Michael has to go to the grocery store after this to get the ingredients for cheese quesadillas, his promised meal for the night.
“Calum?”
“Co-worker. Roommate. Pain in my ass.”
Luke giggles, shaking his head and sliding the coffee across the bar, “Well, I’m glad you get the day off, so you can come visit me and get coffee. You certainly keep my day interesting and exciting.”
“You’ve met me twice,” Michael says, taking the coffee and biting at the straw.
“Yeah, but you have the most interesting coffee orders. Who else would think to combine chocolate and raspberry? I didn’t.”
“I’m just a librarian with terrible taste.”
“Hey, no mean talking about yourself. You have interesting and exciting taste. How’s the coffee?” Luke asks. Michael takes a sip. It’s good, rich without being overpowering, the raspberry a subtle aftertaste in it.
“It’s good,” Michael says. Luke beams, smile lighting up his whole face with cheer.
“Good! I’m going to put it on my February drink list. It’ll be a good drink for Valentine's Day.”
Michael checks the time on his watch, frowning when he realizes how late it is, how much time he’s spent here with Luke chatting. He really needs to get to the store so he can buy food and start cooking. He was supposed to clean the apartment too today. Calum’s gonna chew him out if he doesn’t at least get something done because he’ll certainly realize Michael went to get coffee and he’ll mention Luke again.
“Do you have to go?” Luke asks, voice sad.
“Yeah. Gotta go buy dinner and then cook it. My turn to cook for the evening. Perks of having the day off.”
“Well, thanks for coming in again. You should come back when you have more time.”
“Don’t you have to work?”
“I’m co-owner. I can take a break to talk to my favorite customer,” Luke says, resting his elbows on the counter and grinning, leaning forward just a bit. It gives Michael a good view of his collarbones where the collar of his shirt dips low. Michael swallows, mouth dry.
“I have Fridays off. Maybe I’ll come in next week.”
“Please. I’ll try to come up with a drink for you to try,” Luke says. He smiles, biting the corner of his lip as Michael walks towards the door. He walks into a table nearby, stumbling when he’s distracted by Luke and blushes as he darts out the door. God, maybe one day Michael will stop making a fool of himself in front of the cute barista.
***
It’s been almost a week since Michael went to the coffee shop on his day off and he’s been psyching himself up to go back. He’d gone a couple other days during the week on his lunch break again, but Luke hadn’t been there. Instead, Michael met Ashton who had raised his eyebrows and gone “Oh you’re Michael,” causing Michael to blush and avoid the coffee shop for a few days to get over his embarrassment.
It’s Friday though and Michael can’t deny that he wants coffee. He wants coffee and he misses Luke and he wants to go in anyway. So, Michael sucks it up, puts on his best jeans and nice t-shirt and brushes his hair before going on his mission for coffee. He brings a book with him this time, promising himself that he’ll sit around and actually spend time at the store.
He gets lucky today, pushing the door open and seeing Luke behind the counter, humming along to the pop song on the radio as he dances around behind the counter. He brightens up when he sees Michael, grinning and waving, curls falling into his eyes.
“Hi Michael! It’s been a few days. Ashton mentioned you came in a couple times.”
“Yeah, I needed my coffee fix. Kept missing you though.”
“Yeah, it was a weird week for me, but I’m here now. I know it’s your day off and I couldn’t risk missing you,” Luke says, earnest. Michael blushes.
“Well, I brought my book with me, so I can hang around for a bit today,” Michael says, holding the book up.
“Lovely. I’m here all day for coffee while reading needs. What can I get you?”
“Caramel vanilla iced coffee. The larger size,” he says. Luke nods, going about making the drink.
“You must know some good books, being a librarian. You get to see all the new releases.”
“Most of them are those cheesy romance novels. So if you like reading about running away with a duke, I’m not sure what I can recommend. Unless you like horror novels.”
“I like fantasy. And mystery novels.”
“You should read A Cosmology of Monsters. It’s mystery and fantasy with a dash of horror. A good twist. I read it in one night,” Michael says. Luke hums, snapping the lid onto the cup.
“I’ll have to give it a look. What are you reading now?”
“If We Were Villains. Murder mystery novel, very who done it. But they’re theater students, so it’s an interesting read. Even though it’s very predictable.”
“Well, don’t tell me! What if I decide to read it?”
“Hey, I’m just giving you the plot summary. I just think it’s a little predictable,” Michael says, taking his coffee. Luke rolls his eyes.
“Well, take your coffee and your spoilers and go read your book. Don’t give it all away.”
“Aw, you’re no fun,” Michael says, teasing. He takes his cup, finding a table in the corner and sitting down so he’s facing Luke. Usually, Michael wears headphones and listens to music while he’s reading, but this time he doesn’t, preferring to keep them in his bag, so he can talk to Luke. It works, Luke commenting on the music playing over the coffee shop speakers or asking Michael for his opinions on muffins. Eventually, he takes his break, coming to sit across from Michael with two muffins, blueberry and chocolate, and his own cup of coffee to share with Michael. They exchange stories about their families and their jobs, until Luke has to go back to work and Michael realizes he has to head back home to finish cleaning and start on dinner. Luke looks a little sad to see Michael go, but he waves him goodbye as always, sends him off with a couple of chocolate chip cookies he’s made for Michael to take back to his place. Michael tries not to read into it too much, that the cute barista is giving him baked goods and hanging out with him and that Michael has spent a whole afternoon with Luke. He knows Calum is going to tease him when he goes home with the cookies, that he spent the whole day with Luke, to the point he’s running behind on his chores, but Michael thinks it was worth it to get to spend some more time with Luke and his curls and his laugh and his dimples. It’s always worth it to spend time with Luke and getting to see his smile.
***
It’s Tuesday and it’s boring. Nothing ever happens on a Tuesday. Which, sometimes is nice at the library. Yesterday, Michael had to deal with telling someone who was watching porn to get off the computers and arguing with a mom that no they didn’t have a movie in stock and no, Michael can’t go to another library to get it for her. It had taken Michael’s supervisor to step in and take over before the woman finally got it and left. Michael likes his job but god, does he hate people sometimes.
Calum’s been put on shelving today, leaving Michael alone at the front desk. He’s resisting the urge to spend the chair around in circles to combat his boredom. He could probably read a book or do something else productive, but Michael can’t get away with reading at the front some days and if he pulls his phone out, someone will probably walk by and comment on it.
Michael’s in the middle of making faces at Calum across the way when the doors to the library slide open and it pulls Michael’s attention over. He’s startled to see that it’s Luke coming through the doors, cheeks pink from the wind, and carrying a cup of coffee in his hands. He looks nice today, now that Michael can see his whole outfit. He looks nicer than he should, wearing leather trousers, heeled boots, and a leather jacket over a plain black shirt. He has no right looking this nice at a public library. Michael can’t physically take it.
Luke spots Michael, eyes lighting up and face breaking into a grin when they make eye contact. He makes a beeline for Michael. Michael looks over at Calum, frantic. Calum raises his eyebrows, mouth forming an “o” as he watches it all unfold.
“Hi. So this is your natural habit,” Luke whispers when he gets to the front desk.
“Here it is. Me and all the grandparents and small children.”
“Should I leave and come back so I can watch your heroics in action?”
“Could be awhile. Slow day today it seems like.”
“Too bad. You sold me on you being the big librarian hero.”
“Sorry to disappoint.”
“Never,” Luke says, grinning.
“Can I help you find something today?” Michael asks, figuring he should redirect them back to the fact that Luke’s at his place of work and eventually his boss will ask if he’s goofing off.
“Actually, I wanted to bring you a treat. You keep coming by my place of work, so I wanted to come visit you. Return the favor.”
“I come to your place of work to buy coffee. My work is pretty boring.”
“All I do is make coffee. You get to help people all day and see all the kids. I’d call that exciting.”
“I wouldn’t call it that,” Michael mumbles. Luke stands there, cocking his head to the side watching Michael. It reminds Michael of a puppy dog staring at him. Michael glances at the clock on his computer, figures it’s close enough now for him to take his break and talk to Luke outside.
“Let me punch out for lunch. We can sit outside on the bench and talk,” he whispers. Luke nods, heading off to the outside to wait for him. Michael darts to the back, letting his boss know so someone else can go sit at the front. Michael makes a point to avoid looking at Calum as he leaves.
Luke’s sitting on the bench by the door, ankles crossed and coffee sitting next to him. Michael crosses over, taking a seat next to Luke, who beams when he notices Michael.
“I was worried about coming to see you at work, but I thought it might be nice to bring you an afternoon pick me up. Mid week blues are always the worst.”
“Thanks. I need this. What’d you make me today?”
“Mocha with caramel sauce and coconut milk. I remember you ordered it last time. Thought you might like the sweet and warmth today.”
“I do. How do you know me so well?”
“Perks of being a barista. Good at reading people,” Luke teases. Michael huffs, closing his eyes as he takes a sip of the drink, humming his appreciation when he gets a taste of it.
“Good?”
“Just what I needed. The best yet.”
Luke claps in excitement, curls bouncing with him. Michael takes another sip, closing his eyes again to savor the taste.
“How much time do you have?”
“Can probably get away with 15 minutes before I should head in and actually eat my lunch.”
“Tell me how your day’s been going,” Luke says, turning to face Michael. His face is earnest and open. Michael blushes, launching into a story about trying to run the children’s reading group this morning. Michael would take any kid over their parents anyday. The parents are the kicker, always trying to one up each other to prove their kid is better. Michael gets so lost in the story, caught up in Luke’s laughter and snorting that he doesn’t realize how much time has passed until he catches sight of Calum waving at him through the door.
“Shit I gotta go. Breaks almost up,” Michael says, rushing to stand. Luke looks crestfallen and a little sad.
“Oh really? I didn’t realize how much time had passed. I’m sorry.”
“No, no it’s not your fault. I need to get better at time management. You always distract me,” Michael confesses, blushing a little at the admission. Luke blushes too, cheeks and nose a little red.
“Well good. I like being a distraction. I mean...hmmm...you know what I mean,” Luke says, blushing harder.
“I do. Thanks for the coffee. I’ll come by the shop tomorrow?”
“Yes! I’ll be there. Enjoy the coffee Michael,” Luke says, waving as Michael rushes back in.
“Have fun with Lukey?”
“Shut up. Which of us got free coffee?” Michael says, sticking his tongue out and holding out the cup for Calum to see. Calum squints, leaning in to look at the cup.
“Oh shit,” Calum whispers, pointing at the side of the cup. Michael turns it around, eyes going wide when he notices the handwriting on the side.
“You really grind my beans. Text me- Luke,” the handwriting says, a number written out next to it.
“You have to text him,” Calum hisses.
“I cannot.”
“Do it! The cute barista came to visit you at work and gave you his number! He wants you to visit,” Calum says urgently. Michael looks at the writing, brow furrowed. It’s impossible for Luke to like Michael, but this says otherwise. Maybe Michael should take his chances and text Luke. See what happens.
(It gets him a date on Friday with the prettiest blonde barista in town. It gets him breakfast on Saturday with the same boy. It gets him a cheeky grin from Calum when he goes home Saturday night, covered in hickies. It gets him a boyfriend, who brings him coffee on his lunch breaks with silly little coffee puns. It gets Michael happiness.)

Michael was used to checking up on you at the coffee shop whenever he had a break, either the hour long lunch one or the fifteen minutes ones he had in-between guitar lessons.
It wasn’t a long trip, just down the street from the record shop he worked at - where he was the part time guitar teacher. Really, only a two minutes walk and completely worth the while.
Whenever you noticed him walk through the doors of the quiet coffee shop, a sweet smile automatically opened up on your face and you had to start focusing more on the task at hand. He often had music sheets in his hands and a pencil resting behind his ear, the same one he kept his lonely earbud in. Michael would always absentmindedly walk until he reached the line and only lifted his green eyes onto you when it was his turn to order.
His smile was always bright and wide when he saw you already looking at him dreamily - you’d admit.
“Hi, love” he’d salute, chuckling lightly at the small blush that’d creep on your cheeks. Mikey you gotta stop that! My coworkers always laugh at me when they see how smitten I am with you! You’d said to him once; it’s safe to say that he never did.
“Want your usual for lunch?” you’d ask then, booping his nose and basking in the feeling of having him blush at such a simple gesture - it was payback.
Michael would nod, winking with a grin, before paying and waiting for you at the table you’d always sneak a reserved plate onto so you could have it for yourselves - thankfully no one ever said anything.
Lunch breaks would be his favourites, because he got to spend more time with you to talk, or complain about insufferable students and rude costumers, or ramble on and on about this or that - since you asked for your lunch break to be in the same hour as his - but you liked it better when he’d make surprise visits.
Seeing him jogging down the street in the drizzle just so he could steal a kiss and a cookie, watch you interact with costumers and the jog back to the music shop. Or seeing him come in all frustrated because his last student had been a handful and he just wanted a hug.
Michael would always make sure you were doing okay too, asking if you needed anything or if he needed to scold some fourteen year old who’d tried to steal candy from the jar you kept near the till.
At the end of the day you’d halfway down the street, just in the middle between his shop and yours. Michael hugged you tight, like he couldn’t do when he came to visit, and kissed you until you both needed to catch a breath.
“Should we head home?” he’d ask, grinning from ear to ear.
“Lead the way” you’d say, stamping a kiss on his cheek as the both of you chuckled.

Best Friend [ luke hemmings ]
surfer!luke au | pt.1 | word count: 5,222 | masterlist
Tumblr media
If anyone had been your bestest friend in your life so far, it was definitely Luke Hemmings.
Since day one, when you ran into him looking at skateboards in your friend's store not far from Venice Beach, you've been somehow cosmically tethered to him.
What started out as an offer to help him pick a board and learn to skate, him telling you he's always been more of a surfer than a skater, soon turned into hanging out without your respective boards, going to shows together, being at the same parties, both of you being on your friend Michael's exclusive dinner party guest list, basically, you guys hit it off.
After hanging out with Luke more over time, you learned that he had moved to California after dropping out of university in Sydney, not happy with the path he could see his life was on and following his passions instead, which led him to the same place it led you when you left your hometown, California.
You had been one of the first true friends Luke had made after his big move, and even though you told him to lay off, he would often remind you that you were the one to help him settle into the life he has now, your friend group quickly adopting him not long before he ending up running the surf section of your friend's shop that you'd met him in all those years ago.
It started out like any normal day for you, getting up, getting ready, and heading to your job at the cafe you'd been working at for a few years now. It didn't take you long to make friends, evident by the way people greeted you like an old friend as they came in for their morning coffees or lunch break meals. You were a generally sociable person, and enjoyed the daily interaction with the regulars and new customers that would come through the doors.
It was just a little after the lunch time rush that Luke came strolling in the door, knowing well how busy you would be at the peak of rush hour.
"Afternoon handsome, what can I getcha?" You ask with a grin, leaning forward and putting your elbows on the counter to prop your head up on your fists as you looked to him.
Luke lets out a laugh as he copies your pose, him having to bend down a lot more because of his height, the small space of the counter meaning you were pretty much face to face with him.
"Coffee and a apple cinnamon muffin please, knucklehead." He responds, his accent all over the place as normal.
You give a nod and slap the counter as you push yourself up, walking to the espresso machine on the bench behind you.
"Michael came in today." Luke announces, still leaning on the counter.
"How is he?" You ask, scraping off the coffee grounds to make it level and putting it in to brew before turning back around to see him.
"Good, we've got dinner with him on Friday."
You raise your eyebrows with a nod, pleased at the news.
It wasn't unusual for you or Luke to make plans involving the other without them there, your friends joking you've been a package deal as long as you've known each other. Besides, how could you be upset considering Michael's food was involved?
"What's the theme this time?" You ask curiously.
Since Michael had become an apprentice chef at a local restaurant, he had been hosting dinner parties for his friends every couple weeks, his vegan cooking some of the best you'd ever had. To spice things up a bit, he started giving each night a theme, everyone showing up dressed in costumes to fit. It was one of your favorite nights of the week when it came around, and you were already excited at the thought of this Friday.
"Pina Colada, the song. Apparently dress code is hawiian shirts and lei's at the door." He says with a laugh.
You hold your tongue as you put the lid on his coffee, placing it on the counter in front of him.
"Go on, say it, I know you wanna." He sighs with a smile on his face.
"So are you looking forward to finally getting lei'd?" You ask with a sly smile on your face as you grab the apple cinnamon muffin from under the glass cover beside the till.
He groans dramatically, but his grin still covers his face. For the whole time you'd known Luke, while he had been on a couple dates here and there during your friendship, he hadn't been in an actual relationship since you met. Neither had you, the reason unknown to him, but it did mean you would casually poke fun at each other because of it.
"You're really on fire today y/n/n." You roll your eyes as you hand Luke his muffin and coffee, ringing up his order.
"You try getting sleep while Calum and a special guest is in the next room." You say with a raised eyebrow.
Getting what you mean, Luke laughs, putting his hand on your shoulder and giving it a supportive squeeze.
"You're a stronger person than I am. But if you do want a break, my door is always open."
You smile at him, letting out a light sigh as you pat his hand, thankful for his offer.
"I appreciate it. Now go get back to work before Sierra kicks your ass." You smirk, referring to your other best friend, and his boss.
"See ya later, sweetheart." He says with a wink, picking up his food and walking towards the door.
"Will do, darlin'." You smile.
Feeling her presence behind you, you roll your eyes as you can practically already hear her comment.
"You guys are cute together." Ali, your workmate and committed work wife says as she returns from her own lunch break.
"Ma'am." You say in a warning tone, and she brushes you off with a light laugh.
"What? I'm right."
"Yeah, you are." You think to yourself.
With Ali back, you busy yourself grabbing a muffin, before you turn to walk out back and take your own lunch break.
After replying to texts and watching too many tiktoks while you ate, you went back out front until closing, where Ali offered to shut up shop so you could get home a little earlier since she lived closer than you did.
After thanking her so many times she broke and finally told you to fuck off, you offered to return the favour whenever she needed it and made your way back to the apartment you shared with Calum.
Calum was like a brother to you. Him being a year older and around you basically since you moved to California, as not only did you end up having the same friend circle, but his sister Mali was also your boss, being the owner of the cafe.
Sighing in relief as you pull your keys and lanyard out of your pocket, you unlock the door to your apartment and quickly regret it when you hear loud moans and banging coming from Calum's room yet again.
With a frown already set on your face, you refuse to put up with another night of disrupted sleep, putting your airpods in and turning them up before venturing down the hallway to your room.
Pulling one of your bigger bags from your closet, you set to work putting some things together in a makeshift overnight kit. Grabbing a couple outfits you could wear to work tomorrow depending on your mood and the weather, as well as all your other basic items, you write a post it note message for Cal, still being able to hear the sound of the action in his room over Awsten Knight loudly trying to drown it out.
"Safe sex or no sex, you two!!" You call out as you stick the note to his door.
You collect the last of what you'd need from the bathroom, before walking out and locking the front door again behind you.
The walk between your place and Luke's wasn't that bad, it's close proximity being one of the selling points to you when you and Calum were first looking for somewhere new after your last lease ended.
You already knew that Luke would be home at this time, him finishing an hour and a half before you and spending most of that time at the beach until it passed golden hour, which was just fading as you walked out of your apartment.
Climbing up the exterior steps that lead to his apartment unit, you could already see the light on through his window, his silhouette being framed for a moment as he walked past it letting you know he was home.
Readjusting the bag over your shoulder, you step onto the "welcome" doormat you brought him as a housewarming present, knocking twice, then once, then three times.
It only takes a second for you to hear his footsteps coming towards the door, and as he opens it, a smile appears on his face as he realises who it is.
"Hey stranger." He greets with a slight grin, but you could see he was slightly confused about why you'd shown up.
"Hey, do you ah, is that offer still on the table?"
Luke's face softens as he remembers what he told you earlier in the day, raising an eyebrow.
"He was at it again huh?" He asks, and when you nod, he shakes his head as he steps aside, letting you in.
"Of course the offer is open, but you are gonna have to help me cook dinner."
You smile as you look up at him while you pass through into his apartment.
"Sounds like a plan to me." You laugh happily, making yourself at home and dropping your bag at the end of the couch as you hear Luke shut the door behind you.
Turns out veggie stir-fry is on the menu for the night, one of your favorites. You both take a knife and chopping board each, chopping up ingredients and adding them to the fry pan before Luke takes it to the stove to get the garlic and onion started while you get going on the carrots and bok choy.
You and Luke move around each other easily, naturally. You'd been in his kitchen enough times to know where everything was, and even with music playing from the corner covering the sound of your movements, you both seemed to know where each was the whole time.
Taking a deep breath and inhaling the gorgeous scent of the cooking food, you lean up against the counter, crossing your arms casually and looking over to Luke.
He stood with spatula in hand, moving the food around while slightly swaying to the music. You felt a small smile come to your face, getting to admire him for a minute while he was distracted with the food in front of him.
There was a part of you that very much wanted to ignore and deny the warm feeling that would bloom in your chest around Luke, but an even bigger part of you that knew it was pointless to even try.
The feeling wasn't a stranger to you, in fact you'd been living with it nearly since the day you'd met him, even though it was a lot less back then, the seed was still planted.
But, you knew that the feeling would remain just that, a feeling. At this point in your life, you couldn't imagine what you'd do if you lost Luke. While yeah, he was your best friend, and you would regularly flirt with each other casually, there was still part of you scared that if you did let him in on the secret you hadn't told a soul, you would lose him completely. You knew the possibility of losing him was there no matter what, but you'd be damned if it was gonna be because of something you had done.
A change in song brings you back to reality, and your eyes snap to the ground, clearing your throat before speaking.
"So how have you been? We haven't caught up in a minute."
With summer fast approaching, this was peak season for Sierra's store, meaning you'd been missing out on both of your best friends lately to tourists and hobbyists coming out of hibernation.
Luke shrugs slightly, looking to you for a moment with a perplexed expression.
"It feels like we get busier every year, which I'm not complaining about at all, but it's just…. draining I guess." He sighs.
Frowning, you turn towards him more, waving slightly to let him know it's okay to keep going if he wants to.
"I end up missing things more than usual. Sleep mainly." He says with a hint of humor to his voice and a small smile on his face. "And the sea, and you, and the guys. All my favourites."
Never really being one to comfort with words, you place a supportive hand on his, as it rests on the counter beside the stove, propping him up as he stirred with the other hand. You let your thumb brush over the back of his hand, understanding exactly what he meant.
Luke smiles as he looks down, wordlessly moving his hand slightly so he can hold onto yours.
You ignore the way your heart skips a beat as you look up from your joined hands to his face, a kind smile on yours as you speak.
"We're not going anywhere hun. I know I won't be." You say softly, clearing your throat as you realise there's a small chance he could read into the last part of your sentence. "I'm pretty sure the sea isn't going anywhere either." You add on quickly.
Luke takes a deep breath, his gaze lingering on you for a moment before he laughs, turning his attention back to the food as you slip your hand away from his.
"Yeah, good point."
You nod, holding your hands together in front of you and looking down at your socked feet against the tile of the kitchen floor.
"Hey, uh, can you grab some plates? I think we're nearly ready to go here." Luke asks casually, diffusing the tension you could feel had built in the room.
You agree with a nod, moving around the kitchen and collecting together what you'd need. While Luke dishes up, grabbing you both drinks as well, you grab some cutlery and place mats for the table, setting them out and helping Luke carry everything the couple feet journey from the kitchen to the table before sitting down, taking a quick picture of your combined efforts before picking up your fork.
You both dive into the meal, singing your praises to his cooking skills as you complement the food in front of you. You smile as you see Luke turn a slight shade of pink as you do.
Distracted by your conversation, your empty plates sit on the table beside you as Luke pokes fun at you for what happened on some random day you'd mostly forgotten, one where you both had ended up nearly getting your friend group kicked out of a club a few months ago.
You're both laughing as you recall the details when Luke's phone starts vibrating closer to the edge of the table, him quickly catching it before it can fall.
"Shit, I'm meant to be calling my mum in ten minutes." He frowns, mad at himself for losing track of time.
"Okay. You get set up, I'll do the dishes, you should be good to go in ten if you start now." You say, jumping into action and stacking the dishes as he looks up to you to protest.
"You don't have to do the dishes, I'll just stack them and get to them later." He fights, but quickly loses the battle when you point to him, then his laptop, silently instructing him to get going.
He looks at you defiantly before deeply sighing and getting up, grabbing his laptop and setting it up on the other side of the open plan room on the coffee table in front of the couch.
"You're too good to me." He sings while he does as he's told, you smiling to yourself as you run the water.
"Enjoy it while it lasts." You sing back.
The familiar chime of the Skype call ringtone emanates from the other side of the room, and you look over to see a bright grin covering Luke's face as the call connects.
Luke loved his family, and especially his mum. You knew he would still go through bouts of homesickness from missing them, which is why you knew any contact he did have with them was extremely important.
"Hey mum." Luke grins.
"Hi bub, how are you?" You hear his mum ask though the speakers.
You do your best to zone out of the conversation, wanting to give him privacy. Instead, you focus on the music still playing in the corner, though it's playing more softly than before.
Doing your best to stay quiet, your ears perk up as you hear your name from across the room.
Realizing it came through the speakers instead of from Luke, you fight your better judgment and try to eavesdrop, having no success when Luke starts to talk a lot quieter.
Why would Luke's mom ask about you? Sure you were best friends, but you didn't see yourself as that important.
Lost in your thoughts, you lose your grip on the plate in your hand, flinching as it drops back into the sink with a loud clattering noise.
"Are you okay?" Luke asks, bolting up with a concerned look on his face, ready to help in an instant.
Looking in the sink, you see the plate still fully intact and nod as you take a deep breath.
"Yeah it's all good, just lost my grip." You explain, giving him a thumbs up.
He examined you for a moment before sitting back down with his laptop, but instead of picking up where he left off, you hear his mom asking who that was, referring to you.
"Y/n is staying over, loud roommate issues." He explains with a slight laugh.
"Why are you hiding her?! I want to see the pretty girl I've heard so much about." You hear her reply, your cheeks growing pink as you do your best to smother a laugh at the light telling off he was getting.
Looking over to Luke, he raises his eyebrows at you, silently asking if you wanted to come over and say hi. Looking between him and the laptop, you silently mouth "you sure?" to him, receiving a small smile and a nod in return.
You dry your hands on a kitchen towel hanging on the oven door, nervously wringing your hands as you walk over to the couch, sitting down beside Luke and waving to the webcam.
"Hi Mrs. Hemmings, it's nice to finally kinda meet you." You smile as you laugh slightly.
"Nice to meet you too love! Luke's told me a lot about you, all good things I promise." She laughs lightly. Even through a screen, you could feel the warm nature of the woman who'd raised your best friend, though it did make sense his mom would be a sweetheart if he was.
"I'm glad to know I've made such an impact." You bump your elbow into Luke's arm, his head down as he laughs to himself, blonde hair falling over his face. "I promise Luke's done the same for you. I probably don't have to tell you how family proud he is."
His mom smiles, a sense of pride about her for a moment before she looks to the side of the screen where Luke would be.
"You wouldn't be able to tell with how he's trying to hide now." She teases, Luke shifting sideways so he's more in frame, your shoulders and knees now touching.
"I thought mums had to be nice to their kids in front of their friends?" He asks with squinted eyes.
"I don't remember that being a rule. Besides, you don't have the same accent I remember my son having so I'd say it's fair game."
"That's because I spend too much time with this one." Luke says, nodding his head towards you.
"Excuse me?" You say with a raised eyebrow. Luke just smiles at you, his teasing having the desired effect. You don't manage to hold onto your hard exterior for long, cracking and smiling back at him.
Liz laughs at the two of you, dispelling the moment as you both look back to her.
"Yeah we do spend a lot of time together." You say, Luke nodding in agreement as the three of you fall into easy conversation.
You end up staying for the whole video call, Liz asking you about your life, what you do, all the story details Luke had failed to tell her himself.
As you both say a lengthy goodbye, Luke promises to call Liz more between video calls, and you promise to keep an eye on him for her in the time in between those as well.
After closing his laptop, Luke leans back into the couch with a sigh.
"She likes you." He says quietly, looking over to you with soft eyes and a softer smile as you mimic his actions and lean back into the couch, turning your head to look at him.
"You think so?" You ask, just as quietly as he spoke.
He nods tiredly, wrapping his arm around your shoulder and pulling you into his side, his hand squeezing your shoulder as your rest your head against his.
Ever since Luke had hit end on the call, you felt a wave of tiredness wash over you, which you half blamed on the time, and half on stressing yourself out trying to make a good impression.
You can feel yourself falling asleep as you sit there, feeling comforted and comfortable as your breathing turns shallower, the scent of salt water and cologne clouding the front of your mind.
"We should probably go to bed." You suggest, right as Luke covers his mouth with his spare hand as a yawn escapes him.
"Good idea." He agrees.
He gives your shoulder another squeeze before you both get up, him moving to get you a blanket and pillow and you moving to get something to sleep in out of your bag.
Tiredly digging through, your hands pass your work uniform, toiletries, and a sweater, but not one of your old t-shirts you normally slept in.
Seeing the annoyed look on your face, Luke frowns slightly as he returns to the room.
"What's up?"
You groan as you sit back on your legs, gesturing to your bag.
"All I packed was my uniform for tomorrow and a sweater in case I got cold. I was in too much of a rush to get out of there I guess and didn't pack a shirt to sleep in." You frown, mentally scolding yourself.
"Hey, don't worry about it. You can just borrow one of my shirts." He says with a light shrug, like it's the obvious answer to the issue.
"Are you sure?" You ask, and he nods, placing the pillows and blanket down on the end of the couch.
"I'll go grab one and you can get dressed in the bathroom while I change in my room, then it's all yours." He says, and before he walks off, you call him back.
"What do you mean all mine?" You ask.
"You can have my room for the night and I'll take the couch."
You raise your eyebrow, standing up and crossing your arms.
"If you think I'm making you sleep on your couch in your own house then you obviously don't know me."
Luke sighs, well aware of your stubborn nature and already knowing he's fighting a losing battle.
"You must not know me if you think I'm gonna let you sleep on the couch." He responds.
You stare each other down for a minute, both of you not backing down on your point until you relax your face and stance, picking up your toiletries bag and shrugging.
"Guess we're sharing a bed then. I'm gonna go brush my teeth." You say casually, leaving Luke standing in the doorway of his bedroom open mouthed in shock.
As you stared yourself down in the mirror while you brushed your teeth, your internal monologue was punching you in the face repeatedly.
There’s a huge difference between passing out on the same couch together and actively choosing to sleep in the same bed together, and it was only one of those things you’d done with Luke in the past. Sure, there had been times where you had slept in Calum’s or Sierra’s beds, but with Luke, it had never been something to come up.
You remind yourself that it doesn’t mean anything. You and Luke are both grown adults, two stubborn grown adults, but adults all the same. You weren’t strangers to each other by any stretch, so you couldn’t figure out why the plan you’d put upon yourself made your heart beat a million times faster.
Little did you know, Luke was doing the exact same thing in the room over. As soon as you had stepped out of the room, his hands started to sweat. He was nervous, more so than he had been in a long while.
That was the thing that scared Luke the most about you, apart from the fact he’d seen you take down a man twice your size after getting cat called on Pasific Ave, was the special type of nervous that you made him without even trying. He knew the reason why it happened, not that he was willing to admit it to you, or anyone else but Ashton and his mom for that matter.
How was he meant to spend the night in the same bed as the girl he’s in love with, let alone fall asleep at all?
Mentally slapping himself in the face to make himself move, he pulls one of his favorite t-shirts from his closet, knowing that not only did you like it, but it was also one of the most comfortable things he owned.
To someone who hadn’t known Luke a while, they would be surprised to know how organized he is, clothing and home always organized just as well as the boards and gear he overlooked in Sierra’s store.
You rinse the toothpaste out of the sink, taking a deep breath as you hear Luke’s footsteps come closer. He knocks first, opening the door slowly just in case after you tell him to come in.
“Here, to sleep in. I know you like Guns n Roses.” He says with a cheeky wink as he hands you the shirt.
You scoff lightly as you take it, it being a running joke between you how much you disliked Guns n Roses, while he counted them as one of the all time greats.
“Thanks, you really know me.” You grin as you roll your eyes, lightly pushing him out of the bathroom and closing the door.
You hold the shirt up in front of you, looking in the mirror to see the difference in size between you and your best friend. While it fit normally on Luke, you could see it would graze your upper thighs, your height not all that different from his.
Taking your clothes off, you fold and stack them into a pile by the sink while you change your underwear and pull Luke’s shirt over your head, the smell of cologne and salt water hitting you again as you inspect yourself in the mirror.
Even though you had your reservations about the design on the shirt, you couldn’t deny it was one of the most comfortable things you’d ever worn.
Gathering your stuff, you open the bathroom door and walk back to your bag by the couch. Moving your uniform for the morning to the top, you put your old clothes in the bottom of your bag, calling out to Luke who must be in his bedroom.
“Bathroom’s all yours.” You call, zipping your bag again as you sit down on the couch to pull on your socks.
It was more out of habit than anything else, and consideration for the person you shared a bed with, knowing your feet always get freezing cold at night.
Luke walks out of his bedroom dressed in sweatpants and a black undershirt, pausing when he sees you. You see him take a deep breath in as you stand up, setting your bag back at the end of the couch again.
"Alright hun?" You ask, frowning slightly in confusion as he seems rooted to the spot.
He shakes himself out of it, nodding quickly before ducking into the bathroom. You stay in your spot, still confused as ever til his head pops out the door.
"You can head to bed if you like, I'll be there soon."
You nod as the door shuts again, ignoring whatever just happened as you walk to his bedroom, smiling at the sight of the glow in the dark stars you put up around the head of his bed still there from well over a year ago.
Walking over to what you could tell was the lesser used side of the bed, telling by just the lamp on the bedside table instead of the books piled on the other, you pull the bedding back, sliding between the cold sheets and letting your head fall back onto the pillow.
You let out a low groan as your body sinks into the bed, comfort washing over you as it felt like your bones sank back into the right place again after your long day.
As Luke walks back to the room, you're still lightly groaning, making him laugh as he shuts off the overhead light, walking into the room and shutting the door behind him.
"You okay there?" He questions, pulling back the bedding on his side and sliding in next to you.
"Your bed is so fucking comfortable."
Luke just laughs at you again, turning onto his side to look at you. You can feel him looking at you, so you decide to level the playing field and turn on your side too, your breath catching in your throat as you do when you realise your faces are now only inches away from each other.
You both just lay there, smiling softly as you unapologetically take in his features so close, the curve of his nose, his lips, the shade of his gorgeous blue eyes.
“Stop being cute.” He laughs, pulling your hair over your face.
"I will when you do too." You fire back.
Luke just slightly shakes his head, letting out a deep breath before leaning forward, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead, lingering for a moment before pulling back.
"Goodnight, y/n." He sighs, and as your heartbeat rings in your ears, you slowly lean forward, returning the soft kiss to his forehead.
"Goodnight Luke."

Okay next up, Maya @calumsash , I am so so sorry I haven't even acknowledge your tags... I have like 3 of yours piled up, I'm so sorry :S
How similar is my taste in music to yours:
Tumblr media
For this tag, (reblog with the meaning/origin of my url and my favorite color) my url is pretty easy to explain hahahha I stole it from an All Time Low song 🤭 "i'm sick and tired of false devotion" and well, idk, I just liked it hahahahah I was setting up a new tumblr just for fics and here we are (I even fell back down the spn rabbit hole when I was only ever meant to post about bands XDDD). For the longest time I couldn't decide between blue and purple for my favourite colour and then I chose neither: it's green. Forest green hahahahah
For today's tag (I can't believe I'm actually answering to a tag game on the day I've been tagged O.o), which is this one, here are my answers:
1. Favourite song at the moment
I don't know if I'd call it favourite but, I haven't been able to stop singing American Pie since thursday night thanks to Black Widow 😅😅 It doesn't help that I've known all the lyrics to it since I was little thanks to my dad because I'm basically singing over and over a song that's 8 and a half minutes long hahahahah
2. A song you associate with your favourite ship
Is it too self-serving and lazy of me if I copy your answer and say Paper Rings Maya?😅 hahahaha No, for real, that song (even though parts of it don't align with cashton on athob) is forever tied to them for me 💙
3. A song that could be about you
This is me trying there are just more than a couple of lines that hit too close to home
4. A song you think is underrated
Outside of ATL or 5sos or Taylor I never go much into music fandoms so... I don't know how to answer. Any song I could say is underrated could very well be a fan favorite and I just don't know... 😅
5. A song that reminds you of a good memory
Sonrisa Especial by El Sueño de Morfeo reminds me of a period of my childhood were I wasn't sad all the time (which was rare in my childhood tbh), it's an obnoxiously happy and uplifting song that I can't relate to most days but when I do, it's quite special hahahha
6. The last song you listened to
... American Pie 😅😅😅
7. A song that makes you laugh
I Hate by Passenger, it never fails to make me laugh hahahah
8. A song you want your mutuals to listen to
ufff, anything by Kina Grannis I can't pick just one song, I can't
Thank you so so much for the tags Maya 🥺🥺🥺💙💙💙💙

AO3 Fics (2) Masterlist
part one
Cards Are Dealt - @ashtcnirwin (elivigar) luke/ashton E, 100k
Summary: “You wanna… date me?” he asks eventually, when the silence is starting to feel loaded. “I don’t date and even if I did, I definitely wouldn’t be interested in dating you. I’d say no offense, but… full fucking offense.”
Ashton snorts. “Don’t flatter yourself, pumpkin, I have no interest in dating you either. Actually, the thought alone is exhausting and a little nauseating.”
Clenching his jaw, Luke grinds his teeth and shakes his head. “Then what do you want from me?”
“Sex. I already said that.”
A story about wants and expectations branching out and evolving without the knowledge or consent of those they belong to.

"Aren't vampires like.. I mean.. don't they not like garlic?"
A fic in which Michael is a vampire and every trope about vampires is wrong.
Green Light (ao3) - SpencerKnight ot4 E, 181k
Summary: Class is an age old concept--almost as old as the concept of human slavery, and in a world where buying humans is a standard behavior by those who can afford it, Luke's only hope as a member of the lower class is that he falls into the hands of a decent buyer--the hands of Ashton Irwin and his partners. Luke knows he has one chance to please his buyers or he risks getting put back on the market, but he's thrown for a loop when Ashton admits that Luke is the one that gets to call the shots. In an attempt to find security with the trio, Luke braces himself and gives them the green light to do whatever they want with him.
He had no idea they would refuse.
Heartache in the Director's Chair (ao3) - Emmybazy luke/calum T, 19k
Summary: Calum wants to make it as an actor. His world gets turned upside down when Ashton Irwin, the executive producer, casts him to play the lead in a movie with the famous actor, Michael Clifford directed by Hollywoods golden boy director, Luke Hemmings. Luke Hemmings' reputation of being cool, calm, and collected precedes him, so why is he treating Calum so oddly?
Or; Luke is smitten by Calum and Calum is oblivious. They make a movie.
interlude (ao3) - galacticsugar michael/luke T, 36k
Summary: As Michael positions his camera to capture a photo of the venue marquee, it suddenly hits him that Luke isn’t just a name on the sign. His show is tonight. He’s probably here, right now, somewhere in the venue, or at least nearby, maybe hitting up one of the trendy downtown coffee shops or jogging around the lake.
“Michael?”
…or right behind him. His voice sounds the same.
It's a hell of a feeling though (ao3) - thenewbrokenscene michael/luke M, 58k

Summary: Everyone makes wild offers and pleas as dirty talk, it just so happens that Luke has three rather giving bandmates who'll make every single one of his wildest dreams come true.
Even if—or especially when—it means fucking him on stage.
Scene 14 - @daydadahlias (cornflowerblue (daydadahlias)) luke/ashton, michael/crystal, roy/calum, kaykay/sierra E, 128k
Or, the one where Luke hates Ashton but has to pretend to be in love with him for five months for his acting final except for the fact that maybe he isn't pretending anymore.
secrets no longer kept - @sup3rbloom (haveufoundwhaturlookingfor) ot4, luke/calum/ashton, michael/ashton T, 9k

The Bass Player (ao3) - boomercal calum/ashton E, 69k

the flatmate arrangement (ao3) - kaleidoscopeminds luke/calum T, 20k
Summary: Hi Calum/Poor Struggling Paralegal,   So I’ll be upfront with you. It’s a one-bed flat. I also live here. HOWEVER before you delete this and think I’m a freak, I work nights so I wouldn’t be here anytime you would be. You can have the flat exclusively from 6 pm to 8 am, Saturday night and all day Sunday. Understand this sounds like a bit of a crazy arrangement but I could do with the cash, let me know what you think?
Luke Hemmings (Poor Struggling Children’s Nurse)
A 'The Flatshare' AU
Tidal Wave - @ashtcnirwin (elivigar) luke/ashton E, 127k
Summary: “We talked about it before we went over to fetch you,” Ashton starts, “and Michael talked it over with Liz, and we decided that you shouldn’t live on your own for the time being.”
“You decided that I shouldn’t live on my own,” Luke repeats. “Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I’m an adult who can make his own decisions.”
Ashton smiles, but it’s thin and void of humour. “You’re staying with me for a while, Luke.”
A story about figuring out how to handle the difficulties life throws at you, on your own and with the help of loved ones.
Trapped Under Your Spell (ao3) - mariawritesstuff (orphan_account) luke/calum N/R, 26k
Summary: Calum opens his eyes and grins. From where he is, he can see Luke smiling down at him. The sun is shining from behind Luke’s head and from Calum’s position it kind of looks like Luke himself is the sun. Calum is momentarily stunned.
Or, A Hogwarts Cake AU where the boys are the boys and feelings are caught/have been there all along.
unlikely lighthouses (ao3) - asymmetric Michael/Calum E, 37k
Summary: In the middle of the North American leg of the ROWYSO tour, Calum builds a friendship bracelet and Michael starts to have dreams of another version of them

‘Ello mon soleil (i’m gonna ignore u tagging me there...) anyway i’m curious as hell so i’m gonna ask a whole of six questions hopefully no one will ask in between: 1, 5, 18, 20, 21, 35 <3
Also god i agree with the top/bottom thing. It’s so unnecessary?? Like... dude just write it as it is for you... why you gotta put everything into boxes... mhm i don’t like it. But whatever
That’s it hope you have fun i’m expecting a novel <3
God, mon ciel, you really do want a novel. Alright, lemme crack my knuckles and get to writing. ((And yes about top/bottom stuff!!! S’dumb as shit))
1. How long ago did you start reading fanfiction? Writing fanfiction?
I started reading fanficiton when I was in sixth grade because that was when I properly got into the TV show Supernatural. It was a long, terrifying phase, and I wrote several shitty as fuck fanfictions for it on Quotev (which were fucking reader and OC inserts?? Because my friends were writing them... So I did too and... I hate it. I fucking hate it. This is my dark past. This is my fucking villain origin story). I had three different Quotev accounts through the years (6th - 8th grade) and everything I wrote on them was shitty hot fucking garbage that makes me want to violently gouge my eyes out. I am going to pull you a direct line from one of my Supernatural fanfics to prove it.
“That may be the case gentlemen,” Principle Birch was arguing back to them. “But I already told you, no student has reported being struck by lightning!”
You stopped in your tracks. Struck by lightning...? But... you were struck by lightning. This couldn’t be a coincidence.
As you can see, I was an author in the making. Look out, Hemingway, I’m coming for you.
5. What are your fanfic pet peeves? Do they have a huge effect on whether or not you decide to read something?
Fuck, I have too many... I honestly cannot even say them all. They definitely have a huge effect on whether or not I’ll read something. I won’t read anything with a daddy kink; I won’t fucking do it. I refuse. I would rather bash my head into a wall than ever read the word ‘daddy’ used seriously in a fic. Dub-con is such a hard no that even thinking about it makes me want to shrivel into a tiny ball and cease to exist. I won’t read soulmate aus. There’s no real reason. I just... don’t vibe. I don’t like the idea of predestined futures. Won’t read coffee shop aus... Won’t read anything where a chapter is less than 2k words... For 5sos, I don’t like reading any fics written before 2016 to be 100% honest. I will but I try not to because it sort of creeps me out that someone looked at 17/18 year old Luke Hemmings and went “lemme write some porn abt that kid” idk, idk. I’m definitely not one to judge. ALSO THE BIGGEST ONE: WHEN FICS CALL CALUM “THE KIWI” OR “THE MAORI BOY” I LOSE YEARS OF MY LIFE. FOR FUCKS SAKE JUST CALL HIM CALUM. It’s Fucking Racist. No ones out here calling Ash “the white man” what the fuck.
((I answered 18 + 20 so I’m moving on to the others))
21. What’s your least favorite part about the fanfiction writing process?
Oh, that’s tough. I love pretty much everything about writing and posting fic. I don’t actually think I have an answer to this. I don’t love the anticipation after posting, I guess, when you’re inbox is at (0) and you don’t know what to do about it. But I love pretty much everything about writing. It’s literally all I do in my free time.
35. How much has writing fic changed your life?
Oh my g o d. I cannot even begin to express it to you. Fuck. Writing means so fucking much to me and being able to share that writing means even more. In a more serious way... (I’m trying to think of how to say this delicately) I went through a really genuinely bad time before quarantine started (lot of personal shit happened to me and things were just not going well) and I didn’t really know what to do, y’know? Nothing was okay, I wasn’t happy, and I was starting to worry I couldn’t fix myself. But then school let out because of the virus and I was stuck at home with all this time to write and just exist, and I really fell in love with the band and writing about them and it become such a necessary escape for me. Reading comments and interacting with people on tumblr and all that shit has been so important to me these last few months. And I’m in such a good place now and I can fully say that fanfiction has been a large part in making me happy again. :D

Shaking and Waiting for Something More
A couple days ago I wrote Twice As Much Isn’t Twice As Good (tumblr, ao3) for a Mashton prompt and @staticsounds asked if I could write the Cake half of the prompt. Well, here it is! Enjoy!
On ao3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/28842132
“Are you going to finally ask him out?” Ashton asks as he and Luke make their way across campus. Luke blushes, avoiding making eye contact with Ashton’s knowing smirk. Everyday Luke regrets telling Ashton that he has a crush on the cute barista at the coffee shop near campus. Just because they’re best friends and roommates doesn’t mean that Ashton is any less annoying once he’s got personal information in his hands.
Luke’s not even sure how they’re friends sometimes. He’s a music major, going through his graduate project to hone his skills, so he can be good enough to work professionally playing music. Ashton’s a law student, forever whining about classes and internships and being a TA for the lower level students. Luke thinks it’s Ashton’s own fault for picking this career. One shared psychology class their first year was enough to cement their friendship and roommate-hood. Ashton even helps out with Luke’s dog, Petunia, when he needs it. Luke will gladly take Ashton as his roommate, someone to cook dinner with and watch movies on the weekend with and put up with Luke’s odd hours and music playing in exchange for Luke having to clean the dishes and scrub the bathroom tiles.
“I’ll ask out Calum when you decide to ask out Michael,” Luke snips back. Ashton blushes a little, flipping Luke off. Luke’s not above playing dirty and bringing Ashton’s crush into this scenario too. Luke knows the reason Ashton frequents the coffee shop is only half because of his poorly hidden caffeine addiction and half because of the blonde haired punk boy that works there. One day, Luke thinks the two of them might get up the courage to ask either boy out. Although, it’s usually frowned upon to ask out the people who make your coffee. Just because they smile at you and when your hands brush while they hand you the mug and you get warm and tingly instead does not mean you should invade their boundaries and ask them out.
Ashton keeps grumbling the rest of the way to the coffee shop, put out that Luke’s called him out on his obvious crush. Luke rolls his eyes, distracting Ashton by asking him about the project he’s helping his professor plan for their students. Ashton launches into some explanation about law and court cases, while Luke’s brain bleeds a little from how complicated it all sounds. Luke’s a music major for a reason.
They push the door open of the cafe, the bell over it announcing their arrival. Calum glances over at the two of them from where he’s standing behind the coffee machine, turning to say something to Michael that they’re too far away to overhear. Michael straightens up from where he’s standing behind the pastry display. Luke and Ashton approach the counter. There’s a glint in Michael’s eyes that warns Luke nothing good is about to happen.
“Hi. Welcome to Over The Moon Coffee. What can I get you, Luke?” Michael says. He makes direct eye contact with Luke, completely ignoring Ashton in front of Luke. Ashton scoffs, offended and Luke can’t help but laugh at it. Calum snorts from behind the machine, turning a little red when Luke glances over and they make eye contact. Luke gives Michael his usual coffee order, watching Michael scribble it out on the side of the cup and hand it off to Calum.
“What about me?” Ashton asks, mildly offended at being ignored. Michael continues to not look at him, instead typing Luke’s order into the register.
“You’ve come in three times today already. Not only do I know your order by heart, I’m considering cutting you off soon,” Michael says. Luke raises his eyebrows turning to Ashton. He knows Ashton has a caffeine problem, but that’s a little ridiculous even for him.
“You can’t do that,” Ashton insists.
“I can absolutely do that. I’m the barista, I control the coffee supply,” Michael says back. Luke muffles his laughter behind his hand. Calum lets out a bark of laughter, covering his mouth when Luke and Ashton glance over at him.
“You can’t actually cut me off there has to be some kind of rule.”
“You’re getting tea this time. I don’t think cold weather is an excuse to drink ten times more coffee,” Michael states. He rattles off the price to Luke, taking his card and swiping it. He hands Luke back the card and grabs another cup, writing out whatever tea order he means to give Ashton.
“This has nothing to do with the weather. I’m a law student. I have classes this semester and I have to TA a class. Do you know how many bad papers I have to grade?”
“Should have thought about that before you developed a caffeine addiction,” Michael answers, ringing Ashton up for the tea.
“I want coffee.”
“I’m giving you tea. Come back in a few hours and maybe I’ll give you coffee. Or better yet, maybe you can sleep instead.”
“I cannot. Finals are next week. I have to grade papers and study for my own classes.”
“I’m not fueling your caffeine dependence. It’s concerning and I won’t let you drink this much coffee,” Michael says. He’s narrowed his eyes at Ashton. Luke can already see this argument isn’t going to go anywhere, Ashton and Michael both too stubborn to be the first to give up.
“I’ll pay for it,” Luke says, pulling out his card again and handing it over. Michael’s right. Ashton drinks too much coffee and he needs to learn to drink something else. The look of betrayal on Ashton’s face makes Luke think he’s going to have to fend for himself tonight for dinner.
“Really Luke?”
“Oh please, he’s not wrong. You drink too much coffee,” Luke chides a little as he takes his card back. Luke glances over at Calum as he makes his way down the counter, watching Calum as he makes the latte. Calum glances up, making eye contact with him and Luke glances away, cheeks flushed and a little embarrassed to be caught staring. Ashton and Michael keep snipping at each other back and forth about how much coffee Ashton drinks and if Michael can actually cut him off. Luke glances over at Calum.
“He’s right. Ashton drinks too much coffee.”
“You do too. You come in here almost as much as he does.”
“Hey, sometimes I get tea or food instead. Besides, I’m not just here for the drinks,” Luke says, going red when he realizes he’s admitted too much and glancing away again. Calum blushes a little too, finishing making his drink and handing it to Luke. He goes about making Ashton’s tea next. Luke glances over, watching as Michael hands Ashton something in a pastry bag. Ashton takes his tea from Calum, heading for the door. Luke waves as the two of them leave the shop. He goes to take a sip of his drink, stopping when he notices some numbers on the side of the cup. He pulls the cup back, blushing red when he notices it’s a phone number and a little note that says Text Calum, he likes you too. Luke shoots a glance over at Calum, who’s busy at the espresso machine, not paying attention. He glances over at Michael, who shoots him a little thumbs up. Luke flushes a little, ducking his head down.
“I can’t believe you betrayed me like that to Michael.”
“Shut up. He gave me Calum’s number,” Luke blurts out, panic setting in. Ashton’s eyebrows shoot up.
“Did he?”
Luke nods, turning the cup to show Ashton, “What do I do?”
“You text him.”
“I can’t just text the barista.”
“Clearly, Michael knows that Calum likes you and you like him. You should text him,” Ashton says. Luke looks at the number, frowning a little. Maybe Ashton’s right, maybe Luke should text Calum. The worst that happens is that Calum turns him down and Luke will have to find another coffee shop to go to.
Luke does text Calum. After the initial awkward back and forth, they eventually fall into easy conversation and flirting. Luke finally works up the nerve to ask Calum out and the two of them set a dinner date at a local restaurant for that Friday night. Which should in theory, be fine, except that Luke forgot that Friday nights are for Ashton’s study groups. Which means that instead of hiding out in his room with Petunia so she isn't’ overwhelmed by people or in the way, Luke suddenly has to take her with him so that she isn’t alone. Luke doesn’t have time to text Calum, instead opting for walking to the coffee shop and taking his chances there with Calum before anything else. Luke gets there right before closing, pushing the door open and letting the bell announce his arrival.
“I’m so sorry. I don’t know what the shop policy is on dogs but I can’t leave her outside with the snow and I had to bring her with me. I know we have our date tonight, but Ashton needed the apartment for law student things and I can’t leave her there with so many people,” Luke says, rushing it all out as he stands just in the doorway of the coffee shop. He bends down, scooping up Petunia and holding her in his arms. Luke’s not sure how forward it is to bring his dog to the store and to bring her on a date, but he’s desperate. Calum’s the only one in the shop so close to closing time, which comforts Luke that the only person to witness his embarrassment is Calum.
Calum perks up from behind the register. He stops mid-cleaning process and makes his way around the counter.
“What’s her name?” Calum asks, stopping in front of Luke. Luke holds her out a little, letting Petunia lean forward to sniff Calum’s hand, wriggling around till Calum pets her head.
“Petunia. I call her Tuney sometimes. Or Piggy.”
“Why Piggy?”
“Everyone says she’s fat.”
“Aw, she’s not fat, she’s just a big lady. Aren’t you sweetie?” Calum coos, scratching Petunia behind the ears. She melts in Luke’s arms at the contact, sighing contentedly. It does help Calum gain points in his favor that he’s so good with Petunia and she so clearly likes him.
“I know we were going to go somewhere for our date. I’m sorry if I messed it all up. We can reschedule.”
“And force you and this little lady to have to spend the evening in the company of law students? Not likely. I have some pasta and sauce at my place. I think we could manage to make a homemade dinner for our first date. Besides, Petunia might like to meet Duke.”
“Duke?”
“My dog. He’s a little old man, but he enjoys company. He’ll like Petunia I’m sure,” Calum says. Luke blushes.
“Are you sure?”
“Of course. I’m not going to turn down a date with a handsome musician and his adorable dog. Have a seat. I’m going to finish cleaning up and we can take some of the leftover pastries with us for dessert. Do you want anything to drink?” Calum asks, giving Petunia a final scratch behind her ears. He reaches around Luke, locking the door and heading back to the counter.
“Are you going to get in trouble?”
“No. We’re the only two people here and unless she sheds or drools on the table, no one will notice or care.”
Luke takes a seat at the nearby table, gently lowering Petunia to the floor for her to plop down on and rest. He turns to Calum.
“Do you have green tea still in stock?”
“Hot?”
“Yeah.”
“Can do,” Calum says. He puts a tea bag into a to-go cup with hot water, filling it up with hot water and snapping a lid on. He brings it around to Luke, setting it on the table. Luke smiles up at Calum. Calum leans down at the last moment, pressing a kiss to Luke’s cheek. He pulls back, blushing slightly as he heads back to the counter to finish cleaning. Luke blushes too, blowing on his tea and trying to hide it.
Calum finishes cleaning, wiping everything down and setting up for the next day. He flips all the lights off.
“We have to leave out the back. Come on,” Calum says. Luke stands up, bending down to pick up Petunia and straightening up, grabbing his cup and carrying Petunia through the store and through the back.
“This cannot be hygienic.”
“Just don’t set her down. No one has to know,” Calum says. Luke rolls his eyes, but obeys until they’re out the door and in the alley behind the coffee shop. Calum locks the door behind them, turning around and holding his hand out of Luke. Luke juggles Petunia’s leash and the cup into his other hand, grabbing onto Calum’s hand and interlacing their fingers.  Luke feels a little warm inside and it’s not just because of the tea.
“Thank you.”
“For what?”
“Readjusting our date to include Petunia. I love her alot and I want you to like her too if we’re going to date.”
“Well, it’s important that our dogs get along if we’re going to date. Besides, this is a nicer date anyway. Feels more intimate.”
“I have to warn you, I’m a shit cook.”
“That’s okay. I’m decent with pasta and sauce. Maybe I can teach you?” Calum says, glancing over at Luke. Luke grins, feels his dimples pop in his cheeks. Calum grins back, eyes crinkling at the corner.
“I would like that alot. Learning to cook sets a good foundation for a relationship,” Luke says, remembering something his mother told him years ago. Calum laughs a little, leaning over to press a kiss to Luke’s cheek. Luke blushes. Whatever comes next, he knows it’ll all be good if he has Calum there with him.

Genre: coffee shop/fluff
Pairings: Michael Clifford/Reader/Luke Hemmings
Word Count: 2k
Requested: by anon
Oof can you do a coffee shop AU for Mike month? 💗
Trigger Warnings: strong language
A/N: This is pure flirty fluff, I think we’ve all earned it! Also, I didn’t initially plan on making this poly but I couldn’t stop these three hoes from flirting with each other, enjoy!
***
“He flirts with you every time we go in there.” Luke smirks, shoving his hands into his coat pockets to protect himself from the cold. “I’m telling you, he’ll say yes if you ask him out.”
You roll your eyes. This argument comes up every now and again and you’re getting tired of repeating yourself. “It’s too early for this, Luke.” You groan. “There’s no way the cute barista has any interest in me, it’s probably you, he fancies.”
There’s a mountain of proof to back up your argument. Michael, your regular barista at the cafe you visit on the way to work every day, often stares at your best friend when he thinks no one is watching and has even drawn the odd love-heart on his paper cup. Of course Luke had argued that he must do that to everyone, because you’ve had your fair-share of cute little doodles from him as well.
Luke nudges you playfully with his shoulder. “If it was me he was flirting with, he’d have been mine a long time ago.” He winks, although you don’t miss the way that he blushes at the thought of the beautiful blonde barista. “Just bite the damn bullet and ask him out. It’s almost Christmas! Loads of new romances happen around this time of year.”
“If he’s that interested in me, why doesn’t he make the first move?” You counter, trying to hide your own blushing cheeks in the folds of your oversized scarf. “Besides, it should be me giving you this advice! It’s you he wants, not me.”
Your best friend scoffs, ignoring your last comment in favour of continuing his original argument. “He’s been trying to make the first move, dummy!!” Luke explains in an exasperated tone. “You just don’t know how to take compliments or flirt back, so he doesn’t know if you’re interested or not.”
Luke’s theory is entirely plausible. You’ve never been the best at either of those things and it’s cost you dearly in the romance department in the past. No end of your potential dates have ended up with someone else because you've been; either oblivious to their attraction towards you, or too nervous to encourage them or ask them out yourself. The fact that you’ve always had a secret,  underlying attraction towards Luke, may have also played a part in those missed opportunities, but you refuse to dwell too much on that. “Well, I…”
“Just fucking ask him out, or I’m going to do it for you.” Luke interrupts as he stops outside the coffee shop doors. “I mean, what’s the worst than can happen?”
“Umm, I could embarrass myself spectacularly because his most likely reply will be ‘oh, this is awkward, I’m kind of more interested in your dumb, lanky friend!’” You reply quickly. “Then we’d have to find a new place to buy coffee every morning and that would suck.”
Luke chuckles, holding your shoulders and gently forcing you to look him in the eye. “The worst that can happen in this scenario, is that you’ll go on a date with a cute guy. Even if you don’t get along all that well, I’ll call you with a fake emergency, you leave and you never have to see him again.”
Despite the warmth and kindness in Luke’s voice, you’re a little annoyed that he’s entirely missing the point. “Can’t we just leave this alone and continue to admire him from a distance, it wouldn’t be fair to make him choose between us anyway.”
For a moment, you expect Luke to argue but he simply pouts. “Fine, be dateless, you can’t say I haven’t tried!”
You slap Luke playfully on the arm before you reach past him to open the door. As you step inside the cosy little cafe, familiar nervous butterflies spring to life in your tummy. They multiply when the pretty barista looks up from the counter at the sound of the tinkling bell above the door. His handsome face lights up in a beaming smile as his green eyes meet yours. “Good morning!” He chirps, far too happily for this ungodly hour, in your opinion. “What can I get for you both today?”
It’s hard not to notice that sparkle in the barista’s eyes as he speaks. Maybe your best friend is right, perhaps Michael, does have a bit of a thing for you.
Thankfully the cafe is empty this morning, it’s still pretty early. You and Luke often try and beat the morning rush, it seems you’ve managed it today.
“We’ll have our usual please, Mike!” Luke responds, his tone unashamedly flirtatious, as always. “It’s okay if I call you that, right?”
The blonde man glances over at Luke, that sparkle of what you hoped was attraction, remaining firmly in place as his eyes land on your friend. “Sure.” He giggles. “I think it’s only fair that I finally get to put names to the faces of my two favourite customers in return, though.”
The sound of his little laugh only serves to make you fall even harder for this almost-stranger. As you watch him, his gaze drifts back to you and you subconsciously walk closer to the counter as you shyly tell him your name. “And you can just call him, idiot.” You add, jabbing your thumb in Luke’s general direction.
“Or you could call me your very favourite customer!” Your best friend interjects. “Because let’s face it, I’m a fucking delight to be around, especially this early in the morning. But if you want the boring answer, you’d probably better just stick to Luke.”
“I guess I should stick to your actual names.” Michael smirks, raising his eyebrows flirtatiously at each of you in turn. “At least for now…”
If Luke hadn’t tried so hard on numerous occasions to convince you that Michael was attracted to you, there wouldn’t be a single doubt in your mind that the barista was crushing on your best friend. As it turns out, you’re beginning to get incredibly confused as to who actually wants who at this point.
“For now?” Luke questions, leaning across the counter a little, intentionally brushing Michael’s fingertips with his own. “What would you like to call us, Mike?” He asks, his tone becoming so flirtatious and teasing that you struggle to know whether you should be more aroused or embarrassed.
Michael’s cheeks turn a pretty pink as he unwittingly allows his gaze to drift to Luke’s lips. “That would be telling…” He replies eventually, his tone as low and seductive as Luke’s.
“Okay…” You mutter awkwardly, “I think I should leave you two love birds, to it.”
Your words startle the men back to reality as they turn to you in unison, both of them babbling embarrassed apologies.
“It’s fine!” You insist, although your tone is definitely higher than you’d have liked. “You don’t have to apologise for being attracted to each other!” The words have left your mouth before you have a chance to stop them.
Michael awkwardly scratches the back of his neck, glancing between you and Luke with an almost guilty expression on his beautiful face. “Well I… Actually…”
“It’s okay!” Luke interrupts. “You don’t have to explain yourself, I know it’s not me you’re interested in, I just…”
“Are you kidding?” You laugh, there’s no way you’re allowing Luke to chicken out on this. If you can’t have either of these cute guys, they may as well have each other. “The sexual tension between you two is enough to make anyone blush, like - You need to hook up or something.”
Surprising both of you, Michael lets out a tiny nervous laugh. “I actually thought you two were a couple.” He admits shyly. “That’s why I never said anything but…”
“It’s fine!” You interject, “You’re not the first person to think that but he’s available, and he thinks you’re super hot, so you should definitely go out.”
“No way!” Luke screeches at you. “It’s the two of you that should be going out, Michael clearly wants you more than me…”
Michael swallows hard as he looks between you and Luke again. “Since we’re sharing, I think you’re both hot. I couldn’t decide who I was more jealous of when I thought you were a couple.” He giggles anxiously. “I wouldn’t want to cause any trouble between you, though. You two obviously have some unspoken ’thing’ going on.”
You automatically glance towards Luke, he meets your gaze instantly and an awkward silence stretches between the two of you. Your hidden feelings for Luke bubble closer to the surface than they ever have before. As much as you want to admit that you’re attracted to him, your feelings for Michael don’t seem to be going anywhere either.
“This is crazy.” Luke sighs, shaking his head, but there’s a ghost of a smile playing on his lips as he drops his gaze to the ground. “I can’t believe all three of us have been crushing on each other and no one has had the guts to make the first move.”
It takes a moment to process Luke’s words. The two beautiful men that you’ve secretly been carrying a torch for, not only like you back, but are attracted to each other as well.
“Maybe that’s how it was always meant to be.” Michael shrugs, interrupting your thoughts. “If you two had already been a couple or if I’d asked one of you out, maybe we’d have missed out on something even more special.” His tone is a little hesitant like he’s hinting towards something that he’s not sure you and Luke will approve of.
“You’re right.” Luke agrees, his tiny smile widening until it lights up his whole face. “There’s an easy solution to this, it’s just a little out of the ordinary, that’s all.” He takes a deep calming breath. “Okay, I’m just gonna do this.”
Even though you’re pretty sure you know what your best friend is going to say, there’s a part of you that’s incredibly nervous to hear it.
Luke turns to you, his blue eyes soft but sparkling with the kind of happiness you haven’t seen in them for a very long time. “Will you both go on a date with me on Friday night?” He asks, looking between the two of you hopefully.
Both you and Michael reply with an enthusiastic yes. You’re pretty sure that your smile rivals the brightness of those on the faces of your two biggest crushes.
“I really thought you were gonna ask us out separately.” Michael giggles, sounding quite relieved that that’s not the case. “I think this is a much better solution. I’ve never been on a three-way date before. I’m excited for it.”
“Me too.” You grin, still in shock of the whole situation. “We definitely need to eat somewhere cheap if just one of us is paying.”
Michael and Luke both laugh, regarding you fondly before sharing a soft moment of eye contact with each other. “We can figure that out.” Luke promises, “First thing’s first, though.” He pulls out his phone from his coat pocket. “We need your number, Mike.”
Michael takes Luke’s phone and types in his number before handing it back. You notice the way that their fingers brush as the phone is passed between them. Both men blush a little and you grow even more fond of them, if that’s at all possible. As much as you’d admired them both separately, together they’re on a whole other level and you can’t believe how lucky you are to be going on a date with them both.
“Okay.” Luke grins after a moment. “I’ve set up a group chat, we’ll arrange all the details later, yeah?”
You nod, taking out your own phone to add michael’s number to your contacts from the group chat. “I definitely think a coffee date is out of the question.” You giggle, hoping that your jokes aren’t coming across as too lame.
“Definitely!” Michael agrees before a slightly guilty expression takes over his face. “Shit, speaking of coffees, I really should make yours!” He turns his back to you and Luke as he busies himself making your drinks.
“Our date is pretty cute, huh?” You stage whisper, not hiding the fact that you’re checking out Michael’s ass. You always enjoy the days that he wears skinny jeans.
“Both of my dates are the hottest, I’ve ever had.” Luke agrees, also blatantly admiring Michael before turning his attention back to you. “I really think that Mike was right - this all happened for a reason and Friday will be more than worth the wait.”
Every fiber of your being seems to be glowing with excitement and you can’t help but agree with your dorky date. This feels incredibly ‘right’ and you can’t wait to see how it turns out.

repercussions of the ramifications || pt 13 || luke hemmings
been a minute, but after MANY requests, its back.
Luke holds your hand as you walk the streets of Nashville. He took you to a city he knew you wanted to go. “I like it here.” You smile at him.
“I like just about anywhere if you’re there.” He admits, quietly. You slip into a coffee shop and grab ice coffees. “You’re pretty.” Luke says, looking at you as you wait.
“Your eyes are pretty…” you start, “and the slope of your nose ... and your pretty hair.”
“Stop telling me how pretty I am; I will never be prettier than you.” He grins.
“I think scientifically you are wrong… because! Your face is so symmetrical.”
“I don’t want you going to school anymore, you’re too smart for me!” He laughs.
“I know things you don’t, you know things I don’t.” You shrug. You both grab your coffees and Luke wraps his arm around your waist as you leave the coffee shop.
“Hey babe.” He says, and waits for you to look at him, “thanks for continuing to take a chance on me.”
“We took a chance on each other, and yeah we’ve been together for three years, but we’re still learning about each other every day. You’ve really come into your own as a person and you are not the boy I met back then… I’m hungry.” You state.
He grins, “me too. Let’s find something.”
Luke’s cuddly when you guys get back to the hotel, draping himself across you, snuggling his face into the crook of your neck, but you don’t mind. You don’t get a lot of moments of pure affection so you have to take them where you can get them.
“Do you ever think about what a future with me would be like?” He asks.
“Luke… of course. I wouldn’t still be in your bed if I didn’t.”
“Sometimes it scares me.” He admits. “You’re like… this incredible person, who’s so patient and loving and you put up with a lot of bullshit for me, and there’s someone out there that you wouldn’t have to do that for, and you’re gonna find them… maybe while I’m gone, maybe while I’m right next to you and you’re gonna realize you don’t need this.”
You thread your fingers in his hair, and sit quietly, until Luke looks up at you. “I just… I don’t really know what to say. I love you Luke, you know that.”
“Yeah baby, and I love you. That’s not my point. I know you love me. But I just keep thinking someone is out there that’s gonna show you that you can have what you deserve and it’s probably not me.” He pushes himself up to look at you.
“I’m really confused right now, Luke. Two weeks ago you were telling me you didn’t want to break up and now it kinda sounds like you do.” You shrug, for lack of any idea about anything else to do.
“No… baby… what I’m saying is that I understand. If this scenario happens, if it comes up, I get it if you have to leave.”
“How am I supposed to just be ok with that, knowing that you’re watching the door? Waiting for me to leave?”
He sits back on his heels and he looks down at the bedspread, “I fucked up.” He whispers. “You’re gonna leave.”
“What did you do?” You whisper back, looking at him, you can feel the tears in your eyes.
“There was someone else… while we were in Germany… I was drunk… it was just a kiss… she started touching me and that’s what drew me out.”
He listens as the breath you take, the silence between you two, says nothing and everything at the same time. “Oh.” You say, pushing yourself up from the bed and heading straight for the bathroom. You shut and lock the door. You pace the floor, for what feels like an eternity before Luke knocks on the door.
“Babe?” He says, “D’you want me to leave? I can’t give you space.”
You open the door and look at him. “I think the last thing you should do right now is up and leave me here in this hotel room.” You're upset. He knows that, but your teeth are clenched and your face is red and yours eyes read sadness.
“Ok.” He nods. He watches as you pace the floor, ready to take anything you’re gonna throw at him if it means you don’t leave here.
“I can’t… I can’t fucking think, when was Germany?” You ask, almost frantic, “how the fuck could you? After everything?”
“It was after Aus but before you came, we did Europe. And.. I wasn’t thinking.”
“Clearly… Tell me the truth now… that girl before I moved in… the one that messaged me…?”
“Baby, I told you the truth back then.” He nods. “Nothing happened with her, we took a picture, she walked away with Ash. I don’t know.” He shrugs.
“I dunno what to think.” You whisper, sliding your back down the wall so you’re sitting. Luke sits right in front of you, and doesn’t try to touch you at first, but eventually reaches for your hand to play with your fingers. He lets you sit quietly, in your thoughts while he does it, not wanting to push anything at the moment. You finally speak up, “45 minutes ago… you asked if I thought about a future with you… and now I’m not sure I can… has anything you’ve said to me in the last two weeks even been true?” Your tone cuts, and Luke flinches.
“Of course. I’ve never lied to you babe. That’s why I couldn’t keep this.” He sighs. “I love you. I know I fucked up. I just… I want you, and that’s it.”
“Obviously that’s not it.” You whisper, letting the tears well up in your eyes.
Luke knew this was dangerous, you were quiet. Too quiet. But he also notices you haven’t pulled your hand away. But then you do, seeming to realize he still had a hold of it. “Babe?” He asks quietly, resting his hand on your knee.
“I wanna go home Luke… but that’s your home…” you sniffle, no longer able to contain the tears.
“It’s your home too.” He insists.
“I need…” you start.
“Anything.” He insists.
You push yourself up, grab a shooter from the mini bar, your phone and walk out onto the balcony.
Luke doesn’t leave, but he gives you space, pacing the room. You text Calum… or at least try to; but you didn’t know what to say and didn’t want to ruin his time with Kate, at home.
And your phone rings, “Hey.” Cal says. “See you texting and not sending anything… you ok?”
“Why are you checking on my texts?” You let out an attempt at a laugh.
“Kate said something weird and left, she’s kinda flighty, and I just wanted to see if you could decode. But that’s nothing. If you’re texting me right now… something’s up.” He explains.
“Luke told me about what happened in Germany.”
“... about what happened in Germany… oh. Are you ok?” He asks.
“I don’t know.” You take a deep breath, “I have no clue what I’m supposed to do or how I’m supposed to feel. We’ve been together for 3 years, if I go home, I go to his house, but can I respect myself if I stay?”
“Bub, I wish I could help with that. I can’t make that decision for you… but is a kiss, that he was honest about really worth throwing away 3 years?” You stay quiet and think about it, “if it is, you can come here, and stay till you find a place. But it’s up to you.”
“3 years… you think it was really just a kiss?” You ask.
“I know for a fact bub,” He reassures.
“Am I really considering staying?” You let out a dark laugh.
“Think on it for yourself. I’m gonna go, have a drink, get some dinner, you do the same.” And the call ends just as quickly.
“Luke…” you say, walking back into the room. “Can we eat and get drinks?” You ask.
He looks surprised, “yes baby, absolutely.” He nods.
You stay quiet, as you guys order drinks and dinner and you actually wait until you are two in. “I feel crazy.” You confirm, “considering staying… but I need to know… just a kiss? Nothing else?”
“Just a kiss.” He confirms, “you’re not crazy baby… don’t throw away 3 years.”
“How would you feel if it were reversed? If I’d kissed someone.” You ask.
“I’d be upset, for sure. I’m not discounting your feelings. At all.” He agrees, “but, I’d like to think I’d understand, this is hard, what we do is hard. And sometimes you just need something.”
You let out a breath through your nose, “I’m not like you though, Luke. I don’t need the reassurance and affection. I’m ok knowing you’re off living your life, trusting that I don’t need to check on you like that.”
“I know babe. I don’t think about it like that.” He admits.
“I know you don’t.” You nod. “I wanna be so fuckin mad at you Luke. I just… I can’t. I know you, and you thrive off affection and I wasn’t there to give it to you. I just wish you woulda hugged Ashton or some shit, instead of kissing some rando. Because that changes the trust between us, the trust I have for you.”
He looks down, “like can’t be with me type of trust or hard time trusting me?”
“In some ways it’s the same. I don’t have the time or the desire to be on the road with you all the time, you know that. But I can’t ask your friends to constantly watch you, that’s not fair either.”
“I see.” He says quietly.
“Do you though? Do you understand the impact here? 3 years Luke. And for what? Some affection?”
“Well… you were supposed to be there.” He tries to defend.
“And you were supposed to be on my side. You were supposed to know me better than Ben.” You reply calmly. “I’ve never not had your back, I’ve never not supported you.” You finish your drink and look at him, “I wanna get this to go.”
“Ok.” He nods. You guys get it wrapped up and head back to the hotel. Luke watches you for the night, finding a way to eat alone in a shared room, avoiding speaking to him at all costs.
He climbs in the bed while you get ready for bed, he’s prepared to be sent to the couch if necessary. But you don’t bother, you climb in on the other side and lay next to him. Luke thinks this few inches are worse than the thousands of miles that are typically between you.
He tries to touch your hand, and you pull it away, and turn your back toward him.
Luke knows you aren’t sleeping, and he isn’t either, which actually makes you feel better because you know he feels bad about it.
He rolls on his side to face your back, “Can we talk about this?” He asks. “I’m sorry, you know.” He touches your hip, rests his hand there, “I know I fucked up, with Ben and in Germany.”
“I dunno what else there is to talk about.” You admit.
“I just don’t want us to go to bed like this. It was a kiss, babe. I still want you, I still thought about you. And fuck I know I let you down with Ben, and I couldn’t be more sorry for that. I’m actually kinda scared of you, kinda scared of the ability you have over me and you don’t even know it.”
You take a deep breath and turn over to face him. “What do you mean?” You ask, because you don’t know.
“If you asked me to, I think I’d give up music, if it meant I could be with you, and that’s terrifying. Music is all I’ve known.”
“I’d never ask you to do that.” You whisper.
“I know. Because you give a fuck about me and my well being, and that’s why you’re mad about the kiss but you didn’t storm out like you could have, because you understand who I am as a person.” He explains. “I know baby. I know it changes the way you trust me. I get that, but I don’t think it changes the way you love me.”
“I wanna be clear here, Luke,” he watches as a tear rolls down your cheek, “I want it too so fucking bad right now.” You take a minute to catch your breath and prevent the oncoming sobbing, “I wish I could walk away and it wouldn’t hurt. But I know it will. Please don’t make me regret this.” You whisper.
“I won’t.” He promises, grabbing your hand and holding it to his lips to kiss.
Luke knew getting back on tour that things weren’t necessarily good. You tried to pretend, For him and for the guys, but Cal saw right through it and Ash mentioned he felt like something was off.
The normal amount of PDA between you two had turned to minimal and you would even avoid having to hold his hand, and the end of the tour couldn’t come fast enough.
He looks over at you, it’s the last show. He’s surprised your watching, because you hadn’t been. He sees something in your eyes that kinda worries him and it’s all of sudden all over his face for a moment, until he realizes where he’s at and what he’s supposed to be doing.
“Please don’t leave.” He says, the second he’s off stage. “Please stay. I know I don’t deserve it, I’m gonna be better.” He promises.
“What makes you think I’m gonna leave?” You check.
He quickly grabs your hand, walking you away from the large mass of people. “I saw you, I saw your face while I was on stage.”
You can tell Luke is genuinely afraid you’ll leave. He’s looking at you like you’ll leave if he’s not holding you to him somehow. “I dunno what to say Luke. I think you’re afraid I’ll leave because you know I should.” You shrug.
“What do we have to do to fix this, do you need to kiss someone else? You wanna kiss Cal? I could probably pull off Ashton if you wanted.” He pleads.
“I don’t wanna kiss your friends, Luke. I only wanna kiss you, and I thought you only wanted to kiss me.” His heart sinks as you blink back tears and pull away. He watches you walk into the guys dressing room where all your stuff is, and he watches you walk back out with everything, and into the green room, to wait. He stops by and looks at you, scrolling your phone with your headphones on. You glance up and see him. “Leave it for now Luke. I just wanna go home.” You sigh.
“I thought we were gonna go out tonight?” He asks.
“You can, I’m not going with you.” You shrug.
“Babe… c’mon, it’s the end of tour party, everyone is gonna expect you to be there.” He pleads. You just shake your head and Luke looks dejected as he walks away.
An hour passes quickly, and then Cal is in front of you, “need you to come tonight.” He says, after you take your headphones off.
“I don’t feel like pretending everything is cool between Luke and I right now.” You whine.
“I know… but I can’t have a pouty Luke tonight. Be a team player… I’ll make him make it up to you… something expensive maybe?” He quirks an eyebrow at you, slight grin on his face.
“I don’t go for that.” You roll your eyes.
“I know.” Cal groans. “Please, for me?” He asks. “You’ll be on my tab all night.” He offers.
“You know IF I go, Luke wouldn’t let me pay for a thing anyway.”  You shake your head.
“Please, please, please, please, please.” He starts. And then Ashton joins in from the hall.
He peaks his head around the corner and you look at him. “Are you here to convince me too?” You ask.
“Yeah, please!” He asks, “Won’t be a fun night out without you.”
“I hate you.” You glare at Cal.
“You don’t!” He grins, “but thank you!”
You tell them you wanna go back to the hotel and get ready and you’ll meet them out, for the time being Luke doesn’t think you’re coming.
You show up, making sure you look good, the tightest jeans you can find and a leather jacket, to make sure you look like you’re there for a good time. Ashton cheers when you walk in, and Luke’s jaw practically drops to the floor.
You walk over to him with a smile on your face, “close your mouth.” You snark.
“I thought you weren’t coming.” He mentions in your ear.
“Why, were you hoping to kiss someone else?”
“Don’t do that. I only wanna kiss you.” He groans.
“Then why haven’t you?” You meet his eyes, and he quickly wraps his arm around your back and pulls you close to him, going in for an open mouth kiss. You know there are cameras on you guys, and you’re doing your best to present a United front,  because if you don’t, someone will dig in on it and it will make your life hell.
“Good?” He asks, nodding, eyebrows raising. You nod, a grin gracing your face, “let’s get you a drink.” He grins, grabbing your hand. “Can we call a truce?” He asks quietly, while you wait for a drink at the bar.
“I’m gonna be good Luke. You don’t have to worry about me. No one will know. But I just need time.” You shrug,
“I just need you.” He says, lips next to your ear.
You look up at him, eyes meeting his, and you don’t say anything. You grab your drink and kiss him quick on the cheek before walking away to talk with some of the crew.
Luke lets out a breath. It was gonna be a long night, and an even longer amount of time before he was trusted and forgiven and he was starting to realize that.
You leave the club, Luke holding you tight and Ash and Calum in tow at about 3 am. “Want you.” You mumble in Luke’s ear, drunk enough to let your hormones take over.
The sober part of Luke wants to be snarky, he wants to say something about how you didn’t want him earlier. But he knows this is a fine line, you could quickly turn on him. Drunk Luke loves it and wants to live in this feeling, you hanging off of him and wanting desperately to fuck him the second you have the chance. “We’ll be back to the hotel soon.” He mumbles into a kiss.
People get shuffled and you end up next to Cal in the back row of the Escalade, Luke was next to Ashton, and though he didn’t mind, he wanted the attention you were dying to give.
“You know…” you started, and Luke knew the party girl in you was about to say something. “Luke said I could kiss one of ya earlier to make up for him kissin s’mone else.” You explain.
“Is that so?” Cal asks, looking like he’s ready to volunteer.
“Yeah… but she was clear that she’d never.” Luke pipes up.
“It’s true… it’s not my style.” You agree. You lean forward and over Calum so you can kiss Luke. “Luke.” You groan.
“I know baby, I want you too. But we aren’t gonna do anything in this car with my mates.” He says, holding the back of your head to keep your attention. You let out a little whine and he leans toward you and kisses you again and then let’s you go so you can sit in your seat.
Luke’s torn when you get back to the hotel, you obviously want him but he doesn’t think you’re sober enough to say so, and he definitely wants you but he doesn’t want to take advantage of the situation.
He decides to go with his gut, and not give into you tonight, and you try every trick you know to get him to sleep with you, even threatening to stay mad at him longer. He holds your face and kisses your nose, “stay mad at me as long as you want. At least I know I did the right thing by you.” He says.
When you wake up later in the day, slightly hungover and only in his t shirt, but cuddled into him, you look at him, “what did I do?” You ask.
“You threatened to stay mad at me longer for not sleeping with you last night.” He explains.
“Shiiiit…” you say, cuddling into him further, “I suck.”
Luke wraps his arm around you, rubbing his hand up and down your back. “You don’t. You were pulling out all the stops, though.” He smirks.
You sit up on your knees and look at him, “Luke…”
He rests his hand on your thigh, “what’s up baby?”
“Thank you, for being a gentleman last night.” You say quietly.
“I knew you were mad, and that’d make you more mad if I took advantage.” He shrugs.
“That was really thoughtful Luke.” You grin. “I promise I won’t stay mad at you longer.” You lean up and kiss his cheek, “now, don’t we have a flight to catch?” You ask.
“Yes we do, so we can get home to my other girl.” He grins, “Ms. P, so we’re clear.” He grins.
You shower with Luke, the first time since the day he mentioned he kissed someone else.
You felt ok holding Luke’s hand, now you had some renewed faith in the man. He had every opportunity to do what he wanted last night, but he thought about what it’d mean to you. Not everything was fixed, but this was definitely a step in the right direction.
“I’m really excited to see Ms. P and sleep in our bed.” You mention, walking towards the awaiting car, hand in hand with Luke.
“Me too, babe.” He grins at you.
You wave your farewells to the rest of the guys and head home. Luke’s too excited to go pick up Ms. P so you barely have time to set anything down before he’s grabbing his keys and pulling you to the car to get her.
“Should we pick up dinner or do you wanna order in?” He asks.
“Let’s just order in.” You shrug.

Tumblr media
Summary: The absolute main rule for Wingman Inc.? Never fall for clients. But some rules are meant to be broken, right?
Warnings: Swearing, alcohol use (eventually), mentions of sex
Word count: 1,803
A/N: WOW HI WELCOME TO MY FIRST MULTI CHAPTER FIC! I watched the movie ‘the matchmakers playbook’ last night bc i’m highkey in love with nick bateman and instantly fell in love with the concept so this fic is based around that. I’m nervous bc I haven’t written in AGES but here we go, wish me luck. It’s a college/slight fratboy/highkey fuckboy au. Enjoy!
It wasn’t like he chose this life, really.
He didn’t wake up one morning and think ‘holy shit, I’d be awesome at helping the girl get the guy.’ No. Some might say he was forced into it by his best friend, Ashton. It wasn’t all bad. The worst parts are when clients are late.
Like right now.
She was seven minutes late, three more and he would leave. Michael was sitting in some washed out coffee shop. The drink he had ordered for her was getting cold and his patience was growing thinner by the minute. He was waiting for a girl with a blonde pixie cut and glasses that had applied to have Michael help her get the baristas attention. Michael didn’t know why. The barista was nothing special, he had lavender hair and green eyes. But the worst part? His name was Awsten. Yeah, and it was spelled like that. It almost made Michael not want to take this case. That’s when the tiny bell above the door rang and a petite figure bounced in.
“Michael!” she called. He turned.
“You’re late,” he says. She sighs and sits down next to him.
“I know, I’m sorry. I had to walk my dog and he wasn’t having it today,” she explains. Michael didn’t care. “I’m Lainey.”
“I know, I read your file,” he says. She brings her extended hand back into her chest and clearly looks like she wants to sink into the floor. “So. Awsten, huh?”
She blushes and there’s a pause before Michael glances over her shoulder and sees the barista is looking at them.
“Touch my shoulder,” he demands. Lainey scrunches her nose up in confusion. “He’s already seen you and jealousy is an emotion commonly felt before falling in love,” Michael explains. She does as she’s told.
Michael looks over her shoulder again and sees the purple haired barista glancing their way. “Now laugh,” he instructs. Lainey lets out the smallest and fakest laugh he’s ever heard and he has to fight not to roll his eyes. Awsten made his way over to them.
“Hey guys, can I get you anything?” he asks.
“Yeah I’ll send my girlfriend up if we need something,” Michael replies, his eyes not leaving Lainey’s blushing face. Awsten rolls his eyes and looks at her.
“Hey I know you. You’re Lainey, right?” he asks with a smile. Lainey nods.
“We have music class together,” she tells him. Michael kicks her under the table and she lets out a small yip.
“We should get going, we gotta study for that test. Right, babe?” Michael stands and holds out his hand for his fake girlfriend. She grabs his hand.
“Well I’ll see you tomorrow, Lainey,” Awsten waves. Michael pulls her out of the coffee shop before she can reply.
“What was that?” she asks.
“First off, you have to be discreet. If he asks if you have a class together you say you’ve never seen him,” Michael explains.
“Fine,” there’s a pause. “So that’s it then? He’s in love with me? Your magic worked?” Michael scoffs at her snide remark.
“I’ll pick you up before class tomorrow and we’ll continue then,” he says before walking away.
“Did you forget?” Calum asks. Michael laughs.
“Forget what?” he teases. He was driving to Calum’s house right now since his new roommate was moving in today and he wanted to throw a welcome party or something.
“Michael I swear to god if you forgot-”
“I’m on my way now, princess,” Michael smirks. He can hear the sigh or relief Calum lets out through the phone.
“Don’t forget to pick up the chips and dip before you get here,” Calum hangs up before Michael can reply.
Michael was late.
Again.
When he finally got to Calum’s newly shared home, his hair was a mess and he smelled like the cheap perfume that the girl he had met in front of the grocery store was wearing.
“You’re late. Even Ashton got here before you,” Calum growls as he walks through the door.
“But I brought the chips and dip!” he replies, shoving the brown paper bag into his friends tattooed arms.
“Did you really have to hook up with someone that easy before you got here?” Calum asks, shutting the door behind him. Michael turns so they’re face to face.
“I did. And she has a name, you know. But I didn’t quite catch it because she couldn’t say much with my cock down her throat,” Michael smirks.
“Charming,” an unknown voice says from behind him. He turns and is met with a girl he has never seen before sitting at the kitchen counter. She was wearing sweatpants and a baggy sweatshirt and Michael assumes it’s Calum’s new roommate in her ‘moving day’ clothes.
“You have no idea, sweetheart,” Michael says to her. She rolls her eyes and turns to Calum.
“He belong to you?” she asks.
“Unfortunately,” Calum answers, setting the bag on the table and taking the contents out. “Y/N, meet Michael. Michael, meet my new roommate, Y/N.”
“I’d shake your hand but I don’t want to know where it’s been,” Y/N says. Michael is surprised by her quick comeback but brushes it off.
“Could be in the same place as it was with her on you,” he shrugs. She rolls her eyes and turns to have a conversation with Calum when Ashton walks in.
“Hey Mike. How was the meeting this morning?” he asks. Michael shrugs again.
“Give me a challenge next time, Ash,” he snickers.
The rest of the party is slow, more people come and go. Michael occasionally glances over at Y/N but she is never looking his way. Or at least he didn’t catch her staring.
“I hate mornings,” Ashton says as he pinches the bridge of his nose. Michael chuckles as he ruffles his friends hair and makes his way to the fridge in their shared dorm.
“You going to class today?” Michael asks as he gets out the milk for his cereal.
“I wouldn’t be up if I wasn’t,” Ashton says.
“Fair,” Michael shrugs, turning to his empty bowl on the counter.
“Hey you’ve got a meeting after class,” Ashton tells him. Michael shoves a spoonful of chocolate cereal in his mouth and turns around.
“Is it Lainey? Because I’m meeting her before class.”
“No, it’s a new client. She wants some guy named Luke Hemmings,” Ashton explains, staring at the file on his computer. Michael laughs. He knew Luke and he hated him which Ashton knew. That was probably the reason why he made Michael meet with this mysterious girl in the first place.
“Okay, I gotta get going though. Lainey’s got class with douche pants and I gotta walk her to class carrying her books and then kiss her on the forehead,” Michael says, leaving his milk filled bowl on the counter.
“Okay, just meet this client at the bench by the fountain. Oh, and her name is-” Michael has already slammed the door before Ashton can tell him.
Lainey’s hand was surprisingly soft. It wasn’t part of the plan but when they got close to her class, he impulsively grabbed her hand for that extra spice for Awsten to see. They had been walking for what felt like forever before Michael finally saw that flash of lavender hair.
“Stop here,” he says while pulling Lainey to a halt. She turns to face him and he hands her the stack he was carrying before softly kissing her forehead and he can feel the eyes on both of them.
“Did he see us?” Lainey whispers. Michael nods.
“Now, he’s gonna ask for your number. Give it to him but don’t answer when he texts you. Wait until the third text and give very short answers. If he calls you, don’t answer,” Michael instructs.
“What if he doesn’t ask for my number?” she questions. Michael glares at her and she surrenders.
“I gotta go. Tell me how it goes,” he says before running off.
For the first time, Michael was early to class so he was taking his time in walking there. He’s staring at his phone with his headphones in the whole time before he collides into a solid figure which causes them to tip over.
“Oh shit,” Michael mutters to himself before pulling his headphones out and bending over to help them up. “Sorry, man.”
Turns out he had run into a girl. Not any girl, too. Calum’s new roommate, Y/N.
“It’s fine,” she says quietly, grabbing his hand and standing up. There’s an awkward pause as she brushes her pants off.
“So class doesn’t start for another three minutes,” he reminds her. She looks up at him, her eyebrows raised in confusion but interest. “It’ll be tight but we could go around the corner and I could-”
“Oh my god!” she shrieks in disgust.
“Down to two minutes, one of us might not finish but it could still be fun,” he suggests.
“Is this what you do to all girls?”
“Pretty much.”
“You’re gross.”
“And you’re down to a minute and not even I can perform miracles. Your offer expired,” he tells her.
“I wasn’t interested anyway,” she informs, walking past him. He pauses. Not interested? No one has ever been ‘not interested.’ Then it all made sense.
“Oh, in men?” he asks, following her.
“In you. So leave me alone,” she says before finding her seat.
The class was long and boring. Michael spent about two thirds of it winking at girls across the room while he chewed on his pencil eraser. Y/N had seen pretty much the whole thing and rolled her eyes every single time.
The bell was music to Michael’s ears as he packed up his things. Then his phone buzzed so he stopped to see a text.
‘New message from Lainey: it worked!!! he asked for my number!!!!!!’
Michael smiles at the screen but doesn’t reply since he realized all of his classmates had already left the room. He’s almost about to walk back to his dorm when he remembers his meeting at the bench in front of the fountain. He groans before making his way there.
“No fucking way,” he mumbles to himself when he sees Y/N sitting cross legged on the bench, waiting for him. Michael chuckles and makes his way over to her. “Waiting for someone?”
She looks up at him. “Yeah I am. And it’s pretty important to me so can you please leave?” she asks. He shakes his head and sits down next to her. She scoffs and begins to stand up.
“So. Luke, huh?” he teases. She doesn’t move.
“How did-”
“Ashton and I are the founders of Wingman Inc., I’m your new love coach you hired,” Michael smirks at her.
The color leaves Y/N’s face.
“Oh fuck.”
