Juleka vs. the Forces of the Universe ch 9
Juleka vs. the Forces of the People of Paris
Juleka vs. the Forces of the Universe (AO3)
Hi everyone! Thank you so much for your patience with this chapter. I know I had warned you that updates might not be as often, but I didn't think it would take me this long. If I'm being honest, this (and the next two chapters) were 90% written when the last one went up, but between life stuff and the first scene in this just not cooperating with me... things took longer than anticipated.
I still need to rewrite a few scenes for the next chapter, and I'm still in the middle of job hunting so I can't guarantee when the next chapter will go up, but I'll try not to make you wait a month! 💖💖💖
Also, please do yourselves a favour and check out this AMAZING piece of art created by the extremely talented @sayuri12moonlight

“Alright, now close your eyes.” Marinette’s eyes fluttered shut. “Ok, I’m going to do the eyeshadow now.”
Carefully, and with the gentlest amount of pressure she could, she began brushing the pigment across Marinette’s eyelid. The way she had learned to in the most recent session of the makeup masterclass. The masterclass had been the perfect excuse to move up the photoshoot, but it was also serving as the perfect excuse to spend more time with Marinette.
Because she needed models to practice the techniques on. And it was easier to do it with one person at a time. That way, there was no bored Alix bouncing around the room, or squealing Rose and Alya, or nervous Mylène to distract her.
And if it meant a greater opportunity to figure out what was going with Marinette—besides her frankly ridiculous belief that Luka didn’t like her— and why she wasn’t pursuing Luka when she so obviously wanted to… Well, she was never one to look a gift horse in the mouth.
The question was, how was she going to get back onto that topic. The night they had been working on math homework, Marinette had brought the subject up. Or rather, given her a way to bring it up.
Dipping her brush into another eyeshadow, she thoughtfully tapped it against the palette to dislodge any excess as she tried to figure out a way to start the conversation. But before she could think of a casual opener, Alya beat her to it.
Alya 🦊?!: ADRIEN IS @ THE PARK
Of course, he was.
Alya 🦊?!: HES DOING A PHOTOSHOOT
Seriously? How many photoshoots had he had at the park in the past year? Even after all the research she did.
Alya 🦊?!: THIS IS OUR CHANCE
Not likely.
Alya 🦊?!: EVERYONE GET HERE ASAP
Not a chance.
Marinette had opened her eyes, her brows furrowing as she read the texts. She could almost see the anxiety brewing in her friend.
Mylène 🌼 : I can be there in ten. But I have a date at 3 so I can’t stay long.
Alix 🛼 : Kim and I are racing
Alix 🛼 : Should I bring him too?
Alya 🦊?!: ABSOLUTELY NOT
Rose 🌹💗: I’m about to take my brother to the movies
Rose 🌹💗: But good luck!!! 💗💗💗🥰🥰🥰
Alya 🦊?!: Mari? Juleka?
Alya 🦊?!: COME ON
Alya 🦊?!: HE WONT BE HERE MUCH LONGER
Alya 🦊?!: WE HAVE TO HURRY
So much for finding a way to get the topic onto Luka.
A look of total defeat washed over Marinette’s face as she began to pull herself up off the floor.“I guess we should get going-“
“Why?”
Marinette gaped at her, her mouth opening and closing. “B-because… Alya said so-“
“Do you want to go?”
“I-I…” When was the last time someone had asked what Marinette wanted? Because looking at her friend’s face, she couldn’t help but think it hadn’t been for a long time. Guilt washed over her; she had been part of the problem. If she hadn’t discovered Marinette’s secret, would she still be? She shook her head. Now wasn’t the time to be thinking of herself.
“We can go,” she mumbled, “but only if you want to.”
Marinette’s eyes darted over to the pictures on her wall, swallowing loudly. “I’m supposed to go…” she bit back the urge to tell Marinette that she wasn’t supposed to do anything she didn’t want to. “I’m supposed to like Adrien…” Marinette mumbled, not sounding very convinced or convincing. But before she could say anything to even begin to unpack what Marinette had just said, her friend continued, her eyes glued to the floor. “I’m supposed to be with him. That’s what Alya keeps telling me…”
Her stomach sank. She did not like where this was going.
“And Alya is always right about these things.” Alya? Always right? Maybe in Alya’s head- but why would Marinette- “She says he and I are meant to be.” She was really starting to hate that phrase.
“Alya isn’t always right,” she said gently. Especially about this. “You don’t have to-“
“The rest of the girls too. And my parents adore him. And Tik- my other friend. They all say Adrien and I were made for each other. Sometimes,” Marinette mumbled, “it feels like the universe is telling me I’m supposed to be with him.”
What?
“And if the universe is telling me something…”
“But what about what you want?”
Marinette looked away, biting her lip. “I- it doesn’t matter. He- he doesn’t… We should probably get going before Alya-“
Alya 🦊?!: HES LEAVING
Alya 🦊?!: you guys missed him
Alya 🦊?!: WHERE WERE YOU
Alya 🦊?!: WHY DIDNT YOU ANSWER???!!!
She didn’t miss the way the tension almost melted out of Marinette’s shoulders. “We should- we should get back to the makeup then. You need to build up your portfolio, right?” she asked with a wavering smile.
“Uh, yeah… what you said, about the-”
Marinette sighed. “I know it’s silly, but… sometimes… it doesn’t matter.” she shook her head and plastered a horribly fake smile on her face. “I’m just going to… I’m just going to go to the washroom real quick. I’ll be right back!”
She laid a hand on Marinette’s knee before she could get up. “You don’t have to listen to Alya. Or the others. You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to… but… do you need to… do you need to talk? You know I’m always here for you, right?”
“I’m fine,” Marinette’s voice was bright and cheery. Her words were an obvious lie. “I’ll be right back.”
It was clear to the topic was closed. But as she watched Marinette disappear into the washroom, no doubt to try and collect herself, she couldn’t help but think about what she had said.
And the more she thought about it, the more her stomach began to churn. Alya wasn’t shy about saying Marinette and Adrien were meant for each other. She knew the whole class was guilty of it in one way or another. She knew freaking Andre was guilty of it.
But Marinette had said…
Who else was saying it?
                                                              ***
Her head was still reeling from her talk with Marinette as she trudged across the gangplank. A melancholy melody floated up from below deck; the question was, was Luka picking up on her mood from all the way up here? Or was he playing it for himself?
She made her way below deck, nudging open the door to their bedroom.
Luka was sitting on his bed, his guitar in hand —as always—and he was glaring at his phone. That was new.
“Hey, what’s up?’ she mumbled as she plopped herself on her bed.
He jumped. That was new too. He was usually pretty aware of his surroundings.
“Nothing,” he sighed before trying to smile. “How was the makeover session?”
The thing about Luka and Marinette was that they were both terrible liars.
“A. Not a makeover, just me practicing makeup. B. You suck at lying.”
“I’m not-“
“You say you’re fine. Your music says you’re close to dead inside.” She got up and settled herself beside him on his bed. “You wanna talk about it…?” Her voice trailed off as she caught sight of his phone screen.
Alya had sent him a barrage of texts demanding to know where Marinette was and why she wasn’t answering her phone. More than half of the texts mentioned Adrien and how this was Marinette’s chance to get with him and have her happily ever after.
He hadn’t answered any of them. But from the open text conversation and the look on his face, it was clear he had read them.
“Sometimes,” he sighed, his eyes glued to the phone screen, “it feels like the universe is trying to tell me something.” His eyes flickered to some of the pictures they had on their communal photo wall. His eyes seemed to land on the picture from a group outing from the previous summer. One where they had all gotten ice cream from Andre’s. His eyes seemed to fixate on Marinette’s peach and mint… Oh no. “And if the universe is trying to tell me something, shouldn’t I listen?”
“No.”
                                                             ***
She cringed as she watched Marinette flail desperately before toppling over into the bushes. Adrien was chuckling, even as he held out his hand to help Marinette up. But that just made things worse. From where she was standing, it looked like Marinette had tried to scramble back—or maybe get up on her own— but it looked like her hair had gotten caught in the branches.
“Those two really are made for each other.”
She groaned. “Are you kidding me?”
“Excuse me?” She blanched. She hadn’t meant to say that out loud.  She turned in the direction of the voice. Sitting on the bench next to the one she had been sitting on was an old man in the brightest Hawaiian shirt she had ever seen. He was looking at her quizzically. “Why would you say they aren’t made for each other?”
Did this guy know Marinette and Adrien?
“Ummm…” he was still staring at her, waiting expectantly for an answer. Well, if he wanted an answer, she may as well give him a good one. “Because they’re terrible for each other.”
The man’s brows furrowed in confusion. “Why would you say that?”
“Because she can’t get a single sentence out straight around him-“
“Ah,” he sighed wistfully, “young love-“
“Because,” she barrelled on, cutting him off, “he sends her anxiety into overdrive. And he never shows any real interest in her except when it’s convenient or they’re in a group setting. And she’s so convinced of his supposed perfection that she can’t see that their friendship is almost completely one-sided. Not to mention, she can’t admit to his faults. And he barely acknowledges her existence most of the time.”
“Oh… I see…” the man mumbled. “Well, I must be off. Thank you for sharing your… thoughts with me.” The man hurried away before she could say anything else.
                                                             ***
She was beginning to understand where Marinette got the idea that she was supposed to be with Adrien. It seemed like the people of Paris had decided the two were made for each other.
“I just think they’re so perfect for each other. How can you not see it, Lise? Adrien and Marinette are made for each other.”
Oh gross. Even Bustier was shilling that nonsense? And why did everyone keep saying that?
“I don’t have time for any of this nonsense, Caline. And neither should you. We are educators, not matchmakers.”
“There’s no reason we can’t do both. I’m going to pair them up for the group project they’ll be starting today. They can study together and see what a lovely pair they would make.”
Oh no.
“Whatever you say, Caline. Now, if you’ll excuse me. I need to go prepare the lab for my next class.”
She ducked out of sight of the door that led to the teacher’s lounge. She hadn’t meant to eavesdrop. But she was glad she had. Because if Mme. Bustier was going to try and set up Adrien and Marinette... she was just going to have to stop her.
But the question was how?
She watched as Mme. Mendeleiev walked out of the teacher’s lounge and turned to head towards the science lab. Mme. Bustier came out a minute later, carrying a piece of paper. She peered a little further out from where she was hidden behind a recycling bin.
There were names on the paper Mme. Bustier was carrying. It looked like… a list! A list of the pairings for the group project!
Silently, she tailed Mme. Bustier to the classroom. She watched as the teacher placed the list on her desk before ducking out of sight as Mme. Bustier made her way out of the room, not bothering to lock the door behind her.
She knew where the list was. She knew who Marinette was supposed to be partnered with. But how was she supposed to fix this?
If she went in and switched the names, Mme. Bustier would notice and just change them back. And that also ran the risk of the teacher recognizing her writing. But she couldn’t just leave the groups as they were…
A flash of blond hair in the corner of her eyes sent the gears in her mind turning.
                                                             ***
She had never thought it would be Chloe coming to her rescue. And she had never thought Chloe would fight so valiantly. But she didn’t mind being wrong.
Especially when the sight—well, sound really, given she was hovering out of sight just outside of the classroom— was so glorious.
“This is ridiculous! Utterly ridiculous!” Chloe screeched to Mme. Bustier, who she was sure was close to cowering.
She chanced a peek through the classroom windows. Mme. Bustier was holding her hands out in front of her, but whether she was trying to placate Chloe or protect herself from potential projectiles was unclear. “Now Chloe…” Mme. Bustier said in that voice that she always used when she tried to reason with students, regardless of how reasonable her expectations of her students were. “I don’t know how you found out about the project, but I’ve already assigned partners. I put you with Sabrina; I thought you liked working with-“
“It doesn’t matter how I found out!” It was probably better that Chloe didn’t mention she had overheard her ‘talking’ on the phone about the project. The harder it was to trace this back to her, the better.“I’m going to work with Adrikins!” She almost felt sorry for Adrien.
“But Chloe-“
Chloe had already whipped out her phone and was waving it tauntingly in the air. This was it, the critical hit. “I’m sure my daddy would love to hear all about how you won’t let me work with someone who could help me achieve my best.”
Mme. Bustier blanched. “W-well, I suppose I can change the groups, Chloe.”
She ducked out of sight, smiling as she strolled down the hall to find Rose before the lunch period ended. That had been easy. Almost too easy.
And while Sabrina wasn’t a great partner, Marinette had been stuck with far worse.
                                                            ***
She had to remind herself not to glower at the camera. Or Alya. Or Nino.
She was sure Alya had put him up to it, but as far as she was concerned, he was still guilty. She should have known to be suspicious when Nino suggested the class—sans Chloe and Sabrine, who had gone shopping— have a picnic in the park. Nino was not the kind to organize group outings unless it was to shoot one of his short films. She was just glad Luka had come to walk her home from class and had ended up tagging along.
Although… she cast a surreptitious glance at him as the photographer arranged Kim and Ivan into the frame. The look on Luka’s face when the photographer had directed Marinette to stand right beside Adrien had been a look of pure resignation and defeat. One that matched Marinette’s.
She should have known better!
Adrien had had to leave class early because there had been a problem with some of the pictures from his most recent photoshoot. Enough so that they had to be retaken. Unfortunately, she had only found out the reason why Adrien had to leave early after they had arrived at the park.
And once the shoot had wrapped, Alya had suggested they all take a bunch of pictures so Adrien could start his own photo wall. And the photographer had agreed to take some of the pictures as the photoshoot had wrapped early.
Which was how they had ended up here. With yet another person—another adult—directing Marinette and Adrien together because ‘they look so perfect together’ as the photographer had said.
Hadn’t anyone heard of the phrase ‘looks could be deceiving?’
She needed to do something. Or else those poor idiots would take this as another sign from the universe that they weren’t supposed to have a chance with each other.
The flash of the camera’s bulb nearly blinded her. But the photographer’s disgruntled grumbling brought her clarity.
“The balance is off…” the photographer was grumbling as he looked at the image on the viewfinder. “It looks all wrong… the heights are all over the place!”
This was her chance. “Excuse me,” she mumbled, squeezing herself out of the back row where the photographer had placed her. She could feel her classmate’s eyes on her, no doubt surprised she was speaking up. But she didn’t pay them any attention. “I have an idea.”
The photographer’s head snapped up so quickly, she was worried he was going to give himself whiplash. But he just beckoned her over, still grumbling under his breath, complaining about the vast height differences and how everything he tried just looked like a school picture.
Quickly, she explained her idea. And as she did, the photographer’s smile grew. The last words were barely out of her mouth before the photographer was barking new orders, directing them on how to rearrange themselves.
Originally the photographer had had the tallest in a row at the back, with everyone else standing in a row in front of them. Very much like a school picture. Which had been weird given they were supposed to be fun pictures. But on the other hand… she couldn’t blame him for being exasperated given how all the height differences had thrown off the other arrangements he had tried.
But thankfully, her idea was working.
Adrien was still front and center—as it seemed he always was—but instead of having the tallest people stand in the back, they were all sitting with Adrien on a bench. And the shorter people were standing around them, which made them all easier to frame.
Kim was sitting on one end of the bench, with a very smug-looking Alix standing next to him with her elbow propped up on his head. Max was standing behind the bench, smiling over Kim’s shoulder. Nino was sitting next to Kim, with Alya standing behind him, resting her chin on top of his head. Then there was Adrien, sitting in the middle of the bench, with Nathaniel placed behind him. She had placed herself beside Adrien, with Rose’s arms around her, hugging her from behind. Ivan and Mylène were sitting on the ground right in front of the bench. And Luka and Marinette…
Luka was sitting beside her. On the end of the bench. With Marinette beside him.
“That looks much better!” The photographer cried. And she couldn’t help but agree.
                                                            ***
“I’m afraid I’m all out of pistachio today!”
Marinette’s face fell. “Oh… well, could I have two scoops of blueberry then?”
“I’m all out of blueberry too.” She narrowed her eyes at Andre. It wasn’t even noon yet. How could he already be out of two flavours? How could he already be out of those two flavours? “But I have plenty of peach and mint!”
There it was.
“Actually…” Marinette said in a small voice, but Andre was already pulling out his scooper.
“Peach for his lips, and mint for his eyes! Eat this and your true love will-“
“I’m not really feeling ice cream anyways. What if we grabbed a smoothie instead.”
Alya narrowed her eyes at her. “But we’re getting ice cream.”
She shrugged. “You guys already have yours. But I don’t really feel like it, and if he doesn’t have what Marinette wants, she doesn't have to get it.”
“But, the peach and mint! It’s the perfect combination for you, pretty Marinette. It was made for you!”
What was with people and saying that? Was all of Paris in on Alya’s schemes?
She didn’t know. All she knew, was that she was sick of people saying Adrien and Marinette were made for each other.
“You sell other people mint and peach ice cream. Right?”
Andre’s eyes widened to the size of saucers before his brow furrowed in confusion. “Yes…?”
“So Marinette isn’t the only one you give mint ice cream to?”
Andre stared at her. She imagined that if his hands weren’t occupied with his ice cream scoop and a cone, he would be scratching his head. “No…?”
“Same with the peach?” Andre nodded, and she raised a brow. “So the mint and peach weren’t really made for Marinette.”
Andre’s face began to turn the colour of his cherry ice cream. “But they are. Peach for his lips and mint for his eyes-“
“You could say that none of your ice cream is made for someone.”
“But he and Marinette are made for-“
“In fact, you could say that ice cream is for people to choose.”
“But-“
Alya was outright glaring at her now, suspicion flashing in her eyes. “Girl, seriously? Just let him give her the peach and-“
“Actually,” Marinette’s voice was quiet but still had the strength to cut through Alya’s words, “I think I’m going to get a smoothie too.”

Yes, I know a good photographer can take pictures of diverse groups. But since most of the adults in this show have been shown to be incompetent, I figured adding one more would be excusable.
Also, since I couldn't find a canon first name for her, I named Mme. Mendeleiev after the physicist Lise Meitner.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO TIMOTHY JACKSON DRAKE-WAYNE, THE BEST BAT BOY OF THEM ALL!!! YOU CAN’T CHANGE MY MIND!!!!!!
Happy Birthday Tim
Tim never really cared for his birthday, afterall nobody ever remembered it, and he doubted that Bruce would care.  He had never shown much of an interest in him, which was fine since he wasn’t supposed to get close to him.  His entire job as Robin was to make sure Batman didn’t go crazy, he wasn’t supposed to get attached.  So he didn’t, at least that’s what he told himself.  It was around 10:45 PM when Tim went upstairs at Alfred’s request.  Timidly the 14 year old walked into the kitchen only to be met with a small white cake.  Upon closer inspection the cake had red and green letting that spelled out in neat scroll, “Happy Birthday Timothy” with perfectly cut strawberries decorating the sides.  Tim stared at the cake in awe, he’d never been given a birthday cake before, except at galas; but that didn’t count as he wasn’t really aloud to eat any.
“Good to see you up here Master Timothy.  Happy birthday young sir.  I apologize for the others absence, but I’m afraid that they are ‘busy’.”
Tim swiftlet lifted up his arms in a placating manner,
“Oh no, it’s fine.  Don’t worry about it, I wouldn’t want to bother anyone.”
Alfred gave him a small smile and nodded.
“Well, I believe that it is time for a bit of cake.”
Alfred walked around the counter and pulled out a plate, for, and knife before he cut a large piece and plated it.  Tim held back tears as he took his first bite of the cake.  This was the best cake he had ever had, and this was definitely his favorite birthday.
*******
Tim stared at the computer screen in front of him trying to figure out what he was missing.  He was tired, he hadn’t slept in a few days, and he was on his 8th cup of coffee from that hour alone.
“Tim, come with me!”
Dick said, suddenly on his right side.  Out of habit he turned and threw a punch at him.  Dick quickly ducked and laughed.
“Your getting faster baby bird.”
Tim sighed and rolled his eyes turning back to the computer.
“What do you need, Dick?”
He asked typing something onto the screen and scrunching his brow in frustration at the facts in front of him.  Dick rolled his eyes and sighed before he grabbed Tim and pulled him from the computer chair and onto his feet.  Tim groaned and tried to pull away in protest, but Dick overpowered him and he was dragged up the stairs.  Tim looked around to see where he was so he could make a quick escape if necessary.  When he looked forward again he saw he was being dragged to one of the main room doors.  He was thinking and going through all of the things he could have missed or forgotten, but nothing came to mind.  When the door opened the lights were off until they suddenly turned on and loud voices screamed,
“Happy birthday!”
From all around the room.  Tim blinked a few times everything catching up to him as he looked around and saw his family; Bruce, Alfred, Barbara, Stephanie, Cass, and Dick all around him.  The room was covered in decorations and on the table sat a decent sized 3 tier cake, just like the one he had had when turned fourteen, but bigger.  Tim ran through his memory and tried to recall what the date was and froze.  Oh, it was his 16th birthday, he had forgotten all about it.  He was pulled out of his stooped by Steph grabbing his arm and pulling him towards the table were 16 candles lined the rim of the cake and in the center it said, “Happy 16th Birthday Tim!” in the neatest cursive with a robin made of frosting right below it.  There was also neatly plated and perfectly made sushi on another table near them.  Tim smiled as everyone began to sing happy birthday to him and when he was done he blew out the candles happy and content with his day.  There was so much warmth that spread through his chest as he talked and ate cake with his family.  So much joy that surrounded the manor, he even saw Bruce smile.  Tim didn’t need to wish for anything, he was happy, and that’s all he could ever wish for.
*******
Tim looked at his watch and frowned.  He was now officially 19, but it didn’t matter, nothing mattered much now.  He was alone in Paris training with Lady Shiva, and his family didn’t care.  They were the ones who kicked him out afterall, he wasn’t wanted.  He sat under a shady tree bench in the park and watched as people talked and interacted with eachother.  It was peaceful, but that didn’t fill the hollowness he felt in his chest.  As he stood and began to walk away he felt someone crash into him and fell foreword, someone landing on his back.  Quickly the person got up and began to call out apologies obviously embarrassed.  Tim got up and turned around and came face to face with a girl about his age with dark black hair that tinted blue in the light and show startlingly bright bluebell eyes.  The girl was still talking and he wasn’t sure if she had even breathed yet.
“Hey, it’s ok.  Don’t worry about it.”
The girl immediately bit her lip and bowed her head as she tried to hide her face.  Tim smiled at the girl who was slightly shorter than him.
“I’m Tim.”
He said casually as he held out his hand.  The girl gave an awkward smile before excepting his hand and giving it a firm shake.
“Marinette.  Sorry again.”
“It’s nice to meet you Marinette.  Do you know where any good coffee shops are, I haven’t slept in a while and I really need a pick me up to finish my things.”
Marinette lit up and nodded.
“I totally understand.  I design and commissions keep me up all night half the time.  I live in a bakery and have concocted the best wake up coffee.  My friends say it’s very dangerous and I’m going to kill myself with it one day, but all well.  Why sleep when you can get things done?!”
Tim smiled at the girl as she began to walk and talk.  She was cute and was very dramatic in the way she spoke and expressed herself.  They walked across the street to a small bakery, the one Marinette must live in, and walked to the front where a short Asian woman stood near the register.  When the woman saw Marinette her smile grew as she welcomed them.
“I’m gonna make one of my specials for him!”
Marinette called out as she went to the back and started making some kind of coffee concoction.  The woman rolled her eyes, but she still held an amused smile.
“Hello, I’m Sabine.  Please choose a sweet, you’ll need it if you’re going to drink her “Miracle Cure”, as the college students like to call it.”
“Thank miss.  Please, call me Tim.”
He said giving her a small smile back as he browsed the selection.  In the display he noticed lots of animal themed treats and smiled.  There were many ladybug and cat themed ones as well as an orange fox, a turtle, a bee, a blue snake, a monkey, and a red dragon.  It was an interesting choice of animals and he wondered if they were important in some way here.  He found a small tarte aux fruits with an assortment of fruits that formed the red dragon.  When he looked up he saw the woman waiting for him still wearing her friendly smile.
“Could I please have the Tarte aux fruits du dragon please?”
“Of course dear.”
Carefully she opened the door to the refrigerated case and grabbed one of the fruit tarts and carefully put it in a small box.  Tim went to the register right as Marinette had finished and placed the large drink in front of him.  He pulled out his wallet but was stopped by Marinette’s hand.
“Nope, on the house.  An apology for earlier.”
She said with a bright smile.  Tim was shocked and felt a warmth he hadn’t felt in years begin to bloom once again.  He gently took the coffee from her hands and carefully picked up the small box with a plastic fork atop it.
“Thank you, Marinette.  That’s very kind of you.”
Her smile brightened and before Tim could stop or even think of what he was saying the words had already left his mouth,
“If you’re free, do you want to walk around Paris with me?”
Marinette blinked for a moment shocked, but then smiled again and nodded.
“Sure, that sounds nice!”
She took off the apron she had been wearing while making the coffee and hung it up on a wrack before walking out from behind the counter snd grabbing his arm and almost dragging him out the door.  When she realized what she was doing she quickly dropped it slightly blushing and scratched the back of her neck in embarrassment.
“S-sorry.  I should have asked first.”
Tim snickered a little, she was adorable.
“No it’s fine, so where to first?”
Tim asked as he gently placed the tart in his satchel and sipped the coffee.  When he did he felt his mind begin to clear and he felt more awake than he had in a long time.  He understood why it was called Miracle Cure now, this stuff was amazing!
“Well, where were you thinking of?”
“I was thinking of going to the Arc de Triomphe then head towards the Effiel Tower.”
Marinette beamed and nodded and began to walk towards the Arc de Triomphe.  She knew the path by heart as she often went there for inspiration.  The two talked the whole way there and bonded over their love of coffee and insomniac tendencies.  As they arrived at their first destination the sat on the steps and watched people pass them.  Tim pulled out the small tart and began to slowly eat it and smiled.  It tasted like Alfred’s cooking, though he didn’t want to admit that this might just be a bit better.  He glanced over at Marinette and noticed that she now had a sketchbook out and was drawing something.  He didn’t want to disturb her as he didn’t like being interrupted when he was really into something and let her draw as he watched the people.  Suddenly there was a loud crash.  He looked up and was shocked to see a giant child walking around smashing and destroying buildings.  He looked over and saw that Marinette had disappeared and he began to panic.
He stood up and began to move so he could get a better place to watch and analyze what was happening so that he could see if he needed to interfere.  He watched silently from a roof and saw a bunch of people begin to surround the child all with the same theme.  His mind flashed to the animals in the bakery and connected the dots as he glanced at all of the different people in animal costumes.  He watched as the Ladybug ordered everyone on the plan and on what to do which lead him to believe that she was the leader of this group.  It only took a few minutes and he watched the cat hero completely destroy a toy car from the giant child’s hand and a purple feather and butterfly flew out.  The ladybug hero quickly caught them and released them into the air.  She threw the object she had summoned into the air and he watched in amazement as thousands, maybe millions, of small ladybugs flew around the damage done and repaired all of it, including the bodies that had not been moving moments ago.
Tim ran back to the Arc de Triomphe and waited there to see if Marinette would come back.  It took a few minutes and then he saw her figure running towards him with panic and worry.
“Tim, I’m so sorry!  Are you ok?  I shouldn’t have left like that, I’m so sorry.”
Tim gave her an awkward smile and nodded.
“It’s fine, you came back afterall.”
She smiled at him and he lifted his arm out for her to take,
“Shall we continue our walk Mademoiselle?”
Tim asked with a slight bow.  Marinette giggled and gave a small curtsy before she placed her hand atop of his.
“Why of course Monsieur.”
They both laughed as they walked.  They enjoyed the silence for a bit before Tim asked what had happened.
Marinette gave him a sad sigh and explained the situation that had been happening in Paris for about 4 years now.  Tim was shocked that this hadn’t made it to the Justuce League, especially if it had been happening for four entire years.  Tim asked a few more questions that Marinette happily answered and they felt happy and content in the warm companionable silence.  Tim thought of all of his past birthdays, and he knew that this one was on the top 5 best list of his favorite birthdays.

A Failed Betrothal (6)
Here is a new chapter for you guys. I am terrible at writing feelings and this is my best shot.😅 Tell me what you think.
[Masterlist]
(PART 1)(PART 5)
-------
(Words in bold is French)
“Tch, Drake is going to be busy trying to find Hawkmoth. He can’t go around Paris, being Dupain-Cheng’s boyfriend. Besides, he can’t be a proper boyfriend even in his most lucid moments. I will be her boyfriend instead.”
Tim was glad he didn’t take a sip of his coffee when Damian volunteered to be Marinette’s boyfriend. But he still choked on air. Jason with his limited knowledge of french was confused. Damian didn’t do what he heard, right?
“No, you can’t. Chloe already told them about Tim. If I come in with a different boyfriend, they would get suspicious. We can work on Hawkmoth while we go on those dates. Besides, I thought you don’t like me. That’s not going to sell the image of a loving couple.” Marinette pointed out. (She also doesn’t want to do this fake-date thing. Not because she likes Damian and she had always been a goner for green eyes and totally would be date him if it weren’t for some stupid curse dictating her feelings for him and fake-dating him might get her catch feelings for him and she would get her heart broken when this is all over and she would stay single forever and be a lonely old lady with hamsters and cats for company.)
“Actually, Mari-bug, I only told the class how romantic your boyfriend is. I never told them what he looked like. Just in case, Timothy couldn’t make it. I have back-up favors to cash in.” Chloe explained.
Marinette didn’t even know why she was surprised at that, this was Chloe after all.
“You have more than one American boy around our age in your debt who you intend to be my boyfriend? Sounds like you, Queenie. So that also means that Damian doesn’t have to do it if he doesn’t want to.”
“My offer still stands. I will be your ‘boyfriend’ before I have to go back. I will be more understanding than those other American boys when you have to rush out for an attack. That is to assume that they can come here or agree. In our initial meeting, I didn’t like that weak girl act you put up. Recent events have made me realize that you are a much stronger person. (Careful Damian, that sounds like a compliment.) You are a decent partner to date.(Shit. Shit. Shit. That wasn’t a compliment, right?)”
Damian couldn’t see why Dupain-Cheng would refuse such a good deal. He supposed her feelings might be still hurt from his first impression of her. He would give her an apology when they are alone and away from his brothers who would make a big deal of it.
“Fine. At least, the curse will at least make this fake couple thing more believable.” grumbled Marinette. The light pink blush on her face is not because he said she was someone he would date.
Oh right, the curse. He swore internally, it had possessed him to be Dupain-Cheng’s boyfriend. He now would have to endure the hand-holding, kissing and staring into each other’s eyes, and try to resist the curse which will be much harder now. Somehow, he didn’t regret it a little bit. It sounds more bearable with him doing those things with her than her with Drake. This was just a mutual agreement to ward off her suitors and prove to her classmates that she was off the market.
Chloe clapped her hands,“If we have everything sorted out, you can start being a good boyfriend by walking Marinette to school today. We want to be on time now.”
The others started packing up their stuff or finished what they were eating. Marinette was dragged out of the bakery by an impatient Damian. Chloe and Alix picked up what Marinette left behind and followed out. The rest soon left right after, leaving the two boys in the bakery.
“Hey, Replacement, tell me if I am wrong but did Demon Spawn willingly ask a girl out?” Jason asked, stealing a croissant from Tim.
“Try making himself the perfect candidate to be her fake boyfriend out of many choices, including me, and get her to agree to it. Now he has to go on a few romantic dates with Marinette in order to ward off this really pushy guy in her class. Demon Spawn also has a crush on her and he’s in denial of it. We are not hallucinating either. I’ve checked.” Tim replied, sipping his coffee.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Damian. Let go. Hey, Wayne, are you listening to me? Let me go. This is not how you treat your significant other. And you are not even going in the right direction.” Marinette all but yelled at him.
He released his grip on her. “My apologies for manhandling you but I wanted to tell you this away from everybody else.”
“What?” She asked, crossing her arms and narrowing her eyes.
I- This is a little difficult to say for me,” Damian started. (Why were his palms sweaty? It’s just an apology. He had done it before although it was mostly because Grayson told him what he did wrong and made him do it.) “But I am sorry for calling you weak, pathetic and every other bad thing I have said about you when you have shown that you are anything but those. I was mad at myself for being caught and took it out on you.”
Her glare softened.
“Apologies accepted. The school is this way.” She said with a smile and went towards the school. Damian walked by her side, his hands in his pockets.
Marinette looked at where his hands were, “If we are going to do this fake dating thing, I suggest we hold hands.”
Damian grabbed her hand and continued walking in silence. Her hands were so small and fitted perfectly in his. Oh God, it’s the curse again. Turning him into a sap. Do not think about her hands. And the fact that she took down a man twice her size with them which was an amazing sight to watch.
“Why are you so stiff? Loosen up a little. You are with the love of your life. Smile a little.”
Damian plastered on a fake smile, “Happy?”
“It looks fake. Being a model he will be able to tell.” Marinette remarked, “Are you sure you want to do this? We can still go get Tim to be my boyfriend.”
“I can do this. Drake wouldn’t be a better choice. It doesn’t help that you are relentlessly nit-picking me. Or are you that bad of a girlfriend?” Damian couldn’t help but sniped back. “Maybe that’s why Chat Noir left you.”
He found himself back against the world and her elbow at his neck. (He would forever deny that he liked it.)
“Look here, Wayne. You know nothing about me and you shouldn’t assume that you do. Chat Noir was revoked of his status as a hero for his behaviour. If you don’t act the part properly, I am going to have my former partner, who has absolutely no sense of boundaries, harassing me in my civilian life and I have already dealt enough of his advances to last a lifetime. I have given you so many chances to get out of this which you refused and yet, you are half-assing it. So are you in this 100 percent or not? Because I am at the end of my patience right now.”
“The boy who is obsessed with you is the former Chat Noir?”
“Yes, I will explain about that later but what’s your answer?”
“I will give it my best shot but I have never pretended to be in love.”
“Were you not taught in the League?”
“There were seduction tactics shown to members when they were old enough and I left them when I was 10 but I am not sure if those skills can be applied here.”(Slamming your opponent against the wall wasn’t one of them but she was doing a great job of it so far. No. No. No. He is not his father. This is different from whatever he has with Kyle.)
She released her hold on him and grabbed his hand, leading him towards her school.
“Well then, here are the basics. Everytime you look at me, just think of your favourite things to make your smile a little more genuine. Maybe call me by a pet name if you want. Keep your touch on me like you can’t keep your hands off of me and act really reluctant when you have to let go. You will only keep them my shoulders, arms, hands and waist or I will break your hand. I will do the same. If you are going to have to kiss me, give me a warning.” He looked into her blue eyes and nodded.
“Alright.”
“Oh. I almost forgot. In case they try to question our relationship. My favourite colour is red. My favourite song is ‘Fearless’ by Jagged Stone.(I love Taylor. Sue me) And we met online a few months ago. You came all the way to Paris to see me a month ago and asked me out. We will talk more that later. Oh, I also love designing and have dreams of being a famous fashion designer.-”
Marinette rambled on which Damian found a little endearing. He looked forward to knowing more about her. He added a few comments here or there about himself (because it was only fair.) and ways to improve their cover story about their relationship.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“We are nearly at school. Let’s start the act, Romeo.” Marinette whispered at him and looked at him with a bright smile that brought a tiny smile to his face. Okay, maybe he liked Marinette a little bit but that doesn’t mean he’s in love with her.
He moved her hand holding his to the crook of his elbow.
“Is this acceptable, my lady?”
She wrinkled her nose, (Adorable. No. Don’t go there) “This is fine. But can you not call me that? And princess too? I may have erased his memories as Chat Noir but it could be a trigger to bring them back.”
“Understandable. What about Malak?”
She blushed. Marinette had learned Arabic a while back and was very fluent in the language.
“It’s okay.” She said in a soft voice. She put her other hand on his bicep and leaned on his shoulder.
“You don’t look like a touchy-feely person so is this fine?”
“Yes.”
“Cool, let me tell you more about the atrocious lies that had passed her mouth.”
They walked into the school courtyard, arm-in-arm, for the entire school, especially Marinette’s class, to see. The perfect picture of a loving couple. Marinette’s blush from earlier was evident on her face, leaving no room for doubt about her new relationship status. (Many guys, gals and pals were upset over it.) As they both walked up the stairs, whispering and laughing about who knows what (gulliable and idiotic classmates they have to suffer learning with), two pairs of green eyes followed them.
In this case, the saying ‘green-eyed monsters’ was true. One was envious of the boy who held the girl he wanted in his arms and the other was envious of the attention the couple was receiving.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Damian escorted Marinette to her class. He gave her a kiss on her cheek and said, loud enough for the class to hear, “Bye, Malak. I will pick you up after school for our date.”
“B-bye, Damian.”
He took her hand, gave a kiss to the back of it and departed, leaving a very red-faced Marinette behind. The rest of the class parted the way as Damian walked past.
She rushed into her seat where Chloe sat beside it, grinning like a Cheshire Cat.
“Sooooo, Mari-bug, how was your date? You two rushed out of there so quickly and left your stuff behind. So eager to spend time with your boyfriend, eh? You enjoyed it very much by the looks of it.”
“Sorry about that, Chloe. Did you bring my bag and the cheese danishes?” Marinette tried to change the topic. And she also wanted to make sure a god of destruction doesn’t go hungry and angsty during school. “Yep, here you go,” Chloe said, handing Marinette her bag and a box of cheese-flavoured snacks for Plagg, “Your mom packed some for you.”
“Marinette. Where have you been the last two days? And you came back with a boy. I am honestly worried about your behaviour.” Lila played the concerned classmate wonderfully.
“Yeah, Marinette. This is a new low, even for you.” Alya added.
Marinette readied herself to tell the cover story Damian and her worked out on the way here.
“Lila, I appreciate your ‘concern’. But the last four days have been a little hard on me so excuse me if I am a little snappy today. You see, Damian disappeared and didn’t return home after school on Friday. So when he didn’t pick up for our weekly video call, I panicked and called his family and they told me what happened. They sent me a plane to get out of Paris so I can’t get akumatized.”
“Was that why you were gone on Saturday?” Chloe asked, playing along although she already knew why Marinette wasn’t in Paris the last four days.
“Yeah. Sorry for not telling you guys. It was sorta last minute. Thankfully, he wasn’t kidnapped actually. His biological mother picked him up but never told his father that she was taking him. I just came back last night. Dami followed me to make sure I am okay.”
“What a bunch of bullcrap.” Alya said, “I don’t believe you.”
Oh. The irony... “Alya, I don’t care if you do. My life is my own business. So keep your nosy nose out of it. Your opinions don’t matter to me anymore, stranger.” Marinette internally was tired of this silly routine and wanted this to end already.
Alya wanted to pick a fight with her over the smallest things she did for the past months. She wondered why her former best friend hated her this much.
“Lila told me that you were skipping school and you paid an actor to be your pretend boyfriend.”
Pretending to not hear what Alya said, Marinette turned towards Chloe, “Hey, you never told me about how you met Tim. I can’t believe that you two are friends.”
“We met at one of those charity galas-”
“Hey, we were talking to you.” Alya cut her off. To which Chloe glared at the ombre-haired girl.
“I thought our conversation was done. What else am I supposed to say?”
Marinette was frustrated and hid that fact well, showing any reaction would give the game away. If she had reacted, it would further fuel the fire of Alya’s self-righteousness, making her believe that Marinette was somehow guilty of what Lila told her about. Lila managed to turn nearly the entire class against her by appealing to their ‘hero’ side and outbursts from Marinette and the others made them more sure of themselves of being in the right. It was so deep-rooted that nothing would sway them to logical reasoning. Maybe except Phase 2. Phase 1 was made a little easier when Talia kidnapped her and made her miss a few days of school.
Phase 2 was to not acknowledge the lies or just appear uninterested. It would illustrate the point that people don’t have to listen to them if they don’t want to. If possible, sow little seeds of doubt to the ones Lila had a looser grip on. The more people they can slowly get on their side, the better.
Alya was confused, usually Marinette would throw a ‘temper tantrum’ about how she didn’t do that and Lila lied.“I-, you should-, You should apologize to Lila.”
Marinette raised an eyebrow, “For what this time?”
“For saying that she was lying.”
“Pray tell, when did in any of our conversations so far did I do that? I mean I don’t like the fact that she just accused me with little evidence of paying my someone to be my boyfriend but I am not going to fight with anyone over it. Maybe I did do that, Maybe I didn’t. Maybe there is a good reason I did those things. The thing is Lila should keep to her own business and I will keep to mine. And as should you. I know you are a reporter at heart but you should at the very least respect my privacy.”
Alya stayed silent, fuming. Everyone was looking at them now. She realized that the designer was right and if she pushed further, she would be the bad guy.
“I thought so. Now, go away. I have nothing else to say to you. Let Chloe finish her story of how she met Tim which you so rudely interrupted.”
“Who’s Tim?” Lila asked, wanting to know more about Marinette’s boyfriend to work on an angle to get him away from the ravenette.
“Mari-Bug’s boyfriend’s older brother. Now, shoo peasants, we are talking. Anyways, Mommy took me to when I was younger so I could mingle with all the other rich kids and get connections. Timothy was there and back then, he was still with the Drakes...”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lila and Alya returned to their seats, both were visibly upset although Lila was seething inside. When Marinette was not at school for the last two days, the Italian thought that it was the last she had seen of her. Today, she showed up with a handsome boy on her arm and by the looks of his clothes, rich too. If she manages to get ‘Damian’ to break up with that pest and date her instead, then she would have a rich, handsome boyfriend devoted to her and that brat would be so heart-broken that an akuma so powerful would be made that even Ladybug won’t be able to defeat. A two for one deal. Lila started planning (scheming) to take her boyfriend away.

Irredeemable my foot
Hi everyone, I decided to write a fic centered on Chloe; is a sugar fic. I always liked her character. And I would like to dedicate this fic to Sienna, aka @catsandfanfic. Happy 14th birthday. Her birthday is March 6th. In my time zone it’s March 6 so hopefully you’re not getting this too early. I hope your birthday is amazing, and I really hope you enjoy this fic; i heard you like Maribat. And @justdyingontheinside gives you a shout out on your special day.
Chloe knew how everyone expected it to go. The blond could admit… She was spoiled, selfish, petty, and insecure, with mommy issues galore.
But she wasn’t a villain. Yet she could understand why people thought she’d go down like one.
Nevertheless, for people to think she’d ever willingly work for Hawkmoth; a man who ruthlessly used his power to corrupt the hearts and minds of innocents (like her father, mother, Adrien, Sabrina, and everyone else in Paris) and use them to further his own agenda… was too much.
The people who believed that was basically saying Chloe was irredeemable; that there was no way she could ever be anything more than what she was. Like she couldn’t grow. Like she couldn’t better herself; like everyone in the world had that ability except for her. She was fourteen-years-old.
           Only fifteen!
Why was it so easy to write her off?
Chloe Bourgeois was a bully, not a freaking serial killer.
She wasn’t a Supervillain.  However, Chloe could admit, that for one brief moment when she realized she was passed over yet again by Ladybug for the chance to help save the day, hurt and anger had filled her. That if Hawkmoth had sent a butterfly after her that maybe… MAYBE for a second, she’d take his offer.
At least, he thought she could be of some use.
It wasn’t fair, Chloe remembered stomping her foot as jealously filled her.  Why didn’t Ladybug pick her? She was so much better than all those other stupid heroes! So much better than that mangy Chat Noir even. Queen Bee would be a much better partner. If she could just prove it!
And that suddenly it was like a lightbulb went off above her head, the kind you only see in cartoons. A smile spread over her face.
The dark butterfly that was headed her way suddenly changed its course.
Yes, Chloe had thought, that’s what I’ll do. I’ll prove it. I’ll show them all. I’m a hero. And I’m going to save everyone!
She could be better.
She would be better.
(And once she did, maybe Ladybug would think so too)
Nevertheless, even if Ladybug never knew. Chloe would. She would know she did the right thing because it was the right thing to do; no other reason. That would be enough for her. Even if it meant she’d never be Queen Bee again.
Chloe was going to prove she was a hero after all. With or without the mask or magical powers.
The world thought she wasn’t redeemable. Well, she was going to show the world what a real redemption arc looked like.
The first thing needed to do was plan. Hawkmoth was too strong. He needed to be brought down fast before he becomes unbeatable. Ladybug was perfect but she was still just a kid. She needed more help.
Outside help. Chloe knew there were other superheroes out there. The Avengers. The flash and his team in central city. Superman and his superfam in Metropolis. The Teen Titans. The Justice League. But to beat Hawkmoth would take stealth. It took intelligence. And people used to dealing with total nutjobs in costumes. Heroes who could help finally crack the mystery of who Hawkmoth was.
           Paris needs the Batfamily.
Which means Chloe was going to Gotham. But she wouldn’t go alone. She needed an Ally, or preferably Allies.
Chloe decided to figure out who was who on the best board of life.
The first was easy Ladybug was the White King; a true, just, and kick-butt hero. Chloe made herself the Queen; because whether Ladybug knew it or not, Chloe had just become her strongest protector. (She only just manage to argue against making Chat Noir a pawn; instead named him a Knight.) Sabrina, though had some major insecurity, was a good friend of Chloe. She was smart enough not to fall for Lila’s fool’s gold.
Sabrina had learned at the heel of her father when it came to detective work. She had mastered computers thanks to her mother who was a high-level computer programmer.  She knew self-defense since her parents shoved her into Karate when she was younger. The redheaded was organized to the point of being OCD. She was loyal to a fault.
With a little confidence, Sabrina could be a real asset to Team Ladybug. And she would be. Chloe just needed to show that she trusted the redhead, believed in her.
Chloe wished she could bring Adrien in but he was a civilian with the backbone of a twizzler. He was too forgiving and to sheltered from the real world. It had worked in her benefit before, otherwise, he’d have dropped her as a friend a long time ago. But things had changed. Chloe needed friends who would stand up against her not just threatened to not be her friend anymore. It wouldn’t do any good in the long run after all.
Hawkmoth was the Black king; pure evil. The Peacock shrew was his Queen. And, Chloe decided, Lila was his bishop. The sausage haired was a manipulative, rancid, liar. And from what she had seen of Lila’s akumatization, the Italian girl was fully in control of her actions. Which meant Lila was working with Hawkmoth willingly.
And since Lila was the only bad guy she could give a real name for, Chloe decided she would be the key to bringing down Hawkmoth.
Thus Lila Rossi became public enemy number one.
Lila was dangerous in a way hawkmoth couldn’t be. She lied and twisted minds with no powers whatsoever. She turned nearly all of Bustier’s class into untrustworthy minions. They should’ve been White; on the side of good. But they had proven to be disloyal and easily influenced. The class couldn’t be trusted.
They had turned against the one person even Chloe had a hard time not deeming a Saint.
           Marinette Dupain-Cheng.
Chloe strongly disliked the girl, mostly out of envy. The blond didn’t need therapy to know that she wanted what the bluenette had; a mom that adored her, a dad that actually tried to help and not just throw money at any situation, sheer talent, and pretty much the instant admiration of almost anyone she met.
However, she was also strong and fierce. Marinette was a force of good hard to reckoned with. Chloe needed all the help she could get.
Which meant recruiting Dupain-Cheng for the cause.
That might prove harder than getting Batman to help out.
When Chloe and Sabrina showed up at the bakery and politely asked to speak with Marinette, she was given a suspicious look by Marinette’s mother (Sabel or something, Chloe couldn’t remember). Still, she called her daughter downstairs.
Marinette walked into with a bright happy smile that quickly faded when she saw Chloe.
“We need to talk, Marinette,” Chloe forced herself to say the other girl’s first name. “Its an emergency.” Sabrina nudged her. “Please.”
It was obviously the shock of Chloe saying please that got Marinette to take them up to her bedroom.
Marinette tried her best to smile, “So what’ s the emerg-” Chloe cut her off.
“We’re going to Gotham to recruit Batman and his fam,” Chloe told her. “To help Ladybug bring down HawkLoser. You coming or not.”
           The bluenette just blinked.
Sabrina winced at her best friend’s lack of tact, “What Chloe is trying to say is… We could really use your help. Ladybug could use your help. Everyone likes you. You can convince Batman to come.”
“…Why?” Marinette asked after a moment of silence.
“Ladybug needs help!” Chloe told her. “Chat Noir throws tantrums all the time. Hawkmoth has the Peacock and Lila at his deposal. Ladybug hasn’t called in Rena or Caraprace in almost a year, so there has to be a reason for that. She needs help! She needs us!”
The Asian girl nodded slowly, “I mean, why come to me? Why help Ladybug like this?”
Chloe frowned, “Because you always do what’s right; the good, noble thing even if it’s utterly ridiculous for you to do so. I’m doing this, helping, Ladybug, because she needs help. I’m a hero, no matter what anyone says or thinks. And Heroes help.”
The bluenette looked at the two girls. They had been a thorn in her side for years. But she always thought they could change. She believed they could. And coming to her, Chloe archenemy, was proof that they were changing. “What’s the plan?”
The blond smiled. “Sabrina managed to outline the patrol routes for the batfamily.”
“They switch who does what route but there is a predictability to it,” Sabrina added. “The idea is to force a confrontation. I’ve gathered evidence to show them so they could understand the gravity.”
“My job is to get us,” Chloe said. “You have plenty of time to come up with one of Disney motivational speeches to get them on board. We leave for Gotham tomorrow.”
It was after midnight. Three girls stood on top of an old condemned building in the heart of Gotham; dressed in black, shivering from the cold.
“By my calculations,” Sabrina said. She held a computer under her arm. “At least two of the bats should be by monitoring the area during this hour.”
“And we’re sure this is going to work?” Marinette asked.
Chloe smirked, “Oh yeah.” She took a deep breath and screamed. “AHHHHHHHH!! Help!! Help! Someone please!!” She gave a fake sob and fell to the ground; causing Marinette to jump back in shock. She looked up at Marinette and Sabrina with a wide grin on her face, “How was that?”
“Become an actress,” Marinette told her. “Let me design the dress you wear when you accept the Oscar.”
There were two loud thuds behind.
“What’s going on?” A tall hero they recognized as Nightwing asked.
“We heard screams,” Red Robin stated.
“Its go time,” Chloe told them as she got up.
Sabrina nodded firmly as she opened up the laptop and started quickly.
Marinette smiled at the heroes, “Hi. My name is Marinette. This is Sabrina and Chloe,” She motioned to her friends. “We’ve come from Paris to seek the aid of Batman to stop a supervillain that has been terrorizing our city.”
Red Robin stepped forward, “A supervillain? In Paris?”
“We haven’t heard anything about it,” Nightwing said. “We know there are heroes there that takedown small-time villain, But nothing too damaging that we’ve seen.”
“Hawkmoth possesses people,” Chloe hissed. “Turns them into monsters. Turns kids into monsters. Literal Babies into monsters. A girl who can control the weather and could end the world.  Another who absorbed energy from people so she could travel back in time. Until the people she steals energy from will freeze and slowly disappear. A man with the power of the Egyptian gods and tried to revive the dead. A villain who could trap people in pictures. Another that can bring people the worst nightmares to life. How about one that caused most of the citizens of the city of Paris to drown. One man caused all that happened. Our city gets destroyed over and over again. People die over and over again. Hawkmoth is behind it all.”
Sabrina turned her laptop to them, and show the video they clipped together. “This is a news real, videos sent from regular smartphones.” The video showed proof of the fights, the monsters, the deaths, the damages, the terror. “Check any new channel centered in Paris. It will show you. This. IS. Real.”
Marinette fought the urge not to tremble as she remembered every villain she fought. “Ladybug fixes the damage the akuma causes; including bringing people back to life. But the people who die still remember. Ladybug can’t do this alone anymore. Even the help of Chat Noir isn’t enough. If Hawkmoth gets what he wants, it could be the end of everything and everyone.” It hadn’t been for a long time, she thought bitterly. Chat Noir loved the glamor and excitement of being a hero but it was like he never really felt the burden of the weight of Paris on his shoulders like she did. To him, it was all game. Or some stupid action movie. And he was too busy trying to get the girl to realize that they might not be able to save the day.
The bluenette looked hard at the heroes, “We need help. I know it’s not your city. I know you don’ have to care. I know you have your own villains and problems.” Tears burned in her eyes. “But we wouldn’t be here if we had other options; if we could handle it by ourselves. So We’re asking anyway. Will you please help us?”
Two identical horrified looks were on the batkids’ faces. Dick and Tim looked at the three kids, thousands of miles away from home, in the middle of the most dangerous city in the world, at night, to beg for help against what sounded like an undeniable monster. The teen girls were scared, near hopeless, and willing to ask for help from Batman and his family, heroes most civilians were too scared to even cross paths with.
Their situation was dire. Direr than the risk of being three, alone, beautiful, teenage girls in Gotham.
The other bats had been listening and or watching the conversation and were equally horrified. But that quickly gave way to fury.
“Red Robin, I want the intel off Sabrina’s computer,” Batman growled. “Oracle, I want everything you can find on Hawkmoth. We’ll start preparing to leave for Paris”
“On it,” Barabra stated. “I also brought up info on the girls. They’re all clean. Sabrina’s dad a cop. Marinette’s an all-star student, who has quite a few famous friends. Chloe’s the daughter of the Style Queen and the Mayor of Paris.”
“I get to kill Hawkmoth, right, B-man?” Jason asked. “I mean, I’m watching a video where he turned a crying baby who literally just wanted a lollipop into Gigantitan and used him to terrorize people. That’s gotta be a free pass on the killing thing.”
There was silence. No answer from Batman.
“Holy shit, are you considering it?” Jason asked stunned. “Kids really are your Achilles’ heel.”
Nightwing nodded. Batman always had a soft spot for kids. But even Dick was considering beating Hawkmoth to death. “Batman has agreed to help.” He told the girls who visibly sighed in relief as weight had come off them.
“May I use your laptop?” Tim asked the redhead. Sabrina nodded quickly and handed it over.
Nightwing observed the girls, “What else can you tell us about Hawkmoth?”
“No one knows his identity, obviously?” Chloe rolled her eyes. “His Allies include another villain named Mayura, identity unknown. And a civilian named Lila Rossi.”
Sabrina still couldn’t believe Lila stooped so low. “We have evidence that she has been willingly working with the known terrorist Hawkmoth and has allowed herself to be akumatized multiple times.” She pushed up her glasses. “She’s in our class. She has been lying and causing emotional distress to multiple students, increasing Akumas.” Lila had always caused the near break up of Ivan and Mylene, Nino and Alya, and for several friendships to nearly be destroyed. It was awful. “We think she will be the best way to finally snuffing out the villain. She has some connection to him we’re trying to figure out.”
“Suspects?” Damian asked in comms. “Stop being obtuse. We need to know who they suspect.”
“Robin, you shouldn’t be on the comms,” Batman reprimanded. “It’s your day off. Relax.”
Tim nodded, “Any leads on Hawkmoth’s identity.”
“Just one,” Marinette admitted. “A man named Gabriel Agreste. But we ruled him out after he was akumartized.”
Chloe snorted, “That’s stupid.” She said. “If Ladybug’s cure can heal the damage of an akuma, including what’s inflicting to her and that Alley Chat; there’s no logical reason, Hawkmoth can’t use his own powers on himself. To think otherwise, would be ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous.”
Sabrina agreed, “Or he could’ve gotten Mayura to use it. I mean Ladybug and Chat Noir switched before. Why couldn’t they?”
Red Robin nodded, “That’s a good point. We’ll investigate him further.” He told them. “How much are you involved?”
The girls shared a look. Chloe stepped forward proudly, “I was the Hero, Queen Bee.”
“No!” Marinette said strongly. “She is the Hero Queen Bee; a loyal friend and ally of Ladybug.” She swallowed hard as she fought the nervousness. Tikki and her had talked about what would happen next. Chloe had proven herself as far as two were considered. The blond deserved a real chance to prove she what type of hero she could be.
Marinette took a deep breath and reached into her bag and pulled out a necklace and a hair comb that Chloe recognized instantly. A series of emotions flashed over the blonde’s face; recognition, understanding, disbelief, envy, embarrassment, frustration, acceptance, and then finally a look of admiration.
“Here,” She handed the comb to Chloe and the necklace to Sabrina. The kawami’s floated out.
“My queen,” Pollen purred as she landed on Chloe’s shoulder. The blonde looked ready to cry.
Trixx spun around Sabrina’s head, “Kit. I have new Kitt!”
           The batfamily was just confused.
Marinette straightens up, “Chloe for your show of loyalty, for your dedication to justice, and for your willingness to help from shadows; I name you an official and permanent member of the miraculous team. Keep moving forward. Keeping bettering yourself. I believe in you. And I welcome Queen Bee back.”
“Wha…” Nightwing said only to be cut off by Chloe
She yelled, “Pollen, Buzz On!" And before they’re eyes, she transformed into the hero Queen Bee. “Eat your heart out, boys,” Chloe smirked at the stunned heroes.
Marinette giggled. She focused on Sabrina who now realized exactly what was about to happen. “Sabrina, when Chloe brought you, I didn’t know what to expect. It turned out you had spent months researching and gathering evidence. I didn’t there was proof Lila was working with Hawkmoth willingly, you did. You saw through the lies and deception to find the truth despite the danger it could bring you. Which why I give you the kwami of Illusion.”
Sabrina shakily put on the necklace. Trixx patted her head, “Now say, Trisx let's pounce.” The redhead did as she was told as was instantly transformed into a fox themed hero. Unlike Alya, Sabrina’s look was grey and a startling silver. It was more like an actual combat uniform.
“Truth is neither right nor wrong,” Sabrina stated. “It's not good or evil. It's not light or dark. Truth just is. I am Renarde Gris.”
Marinette smiled and then said, “Tikki, Spots on.” And was transformed into Ladybug. Her suit was different; darker and better armored. “I am Ladybug.” She told the bats. “And I thank you for help.”
Nightwing opened and closed his mouth repeatedly.
Red Robin just pinched his nose, “Did you just make a civilian into a superhero just like that?”
Ladybug tilted her head innocently, “Why? Isn’t that how batman got you?”
           Jason snorted, “She ain’t lying.”
“You were trained before going into the field,” Batman corrected. “You all were. But let’s focus, Ladybug is a child!”
“You’re just a kid,” Nightwing said. “You’ll all just kids.”
Sabrina crossed her arms, “Weren’t you the first Robin? And didn’t you start at like ten-years-old? At least we’re teenagers.”
“And we don’t dress like traffic lights!” Marinette and Chloe snapped together, to their surprise, and then high-fived with a laugh.
Red Robin examined Ladybug in a new light, “You’ve been protective Paris for three years.”
“Alone?” Damian growled in their ears. “Father, you said I was too young. I am the same age as them. I demand to be treated befitting of my status.”
Ladybug shrugged, “The current Robin has protected Gotham on his own many times. He’s even led Teen Titans on missions. He has proven as I have that age is meaningless in the pursuit of justice. “
Nightwing shook his head, “You’re just kids. Robin is just a kid.”
“Tell me, what bothers you more?” She asked. “The line of children that followed in your footsteps. Or that current Robin is better than you ever were.”
“…I love her.” Damian said. “Father, I love her and I will marry her.” It went quiet. “Red Robin, tell her of my affections. Superboy wants Chloe’s number. Spiderman requests Sabrina’s. I still don’t understand, why, you thought a ‘kids’ game night’ was necessary, father?”
           Batman just sighed.
Tim cleared his throat, “Robin would like to, uh, court you.” He said. “Superboy would like Queen Bee’s phone number.” He could wait to tell Conner that Jon had a crush. “Spiderman request Renarde Gris’.”
           The girls all blushed prettily.
“Then he can hero up and ask me himself,” Sabrina smirked in a way that made Chloe proud.
“Same,” Marinette said with a smile. Chloe nodded in agreement.
“…We’re on our way,” Damian said into the comms.
The sigh that answered that statement clearly belonged to Bruce.

Burned Beginnings, Chapter 9
<<Previous  Next>>
25. Shooting Star
“If you could wish upon a shooting star, what would you want?”
Leaning back further in her balcony lounge chair, Marinette looked up to the sky to spot the few stars whose glitter could surpass the light pollution Paris offered. “Can you even really see them?”
In the chair beside her, Adrien turned his head up towards the sky. “Well, not really, but if you could, what would you wish for?”
Marinette hummed. “Like, what kinda wish are we talking about? Are we talking a genie wish or realistic wish?”
“Um… realistic wish,” Adrien answered. “Specifically, it’s been a little while since you decided not to pursue fashion, so have you decided what to do next?”
Marinette looked at him, only to see him looking inquisitively back at her. “Not quite yet,” she said before turning back to the sky. “I guess the more time goes on, the more that a part of me wants to have a job that would allow me to be around clothes in some way.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah,” she said. “I had to take a little time away from designing to clear my head, but… I think I’m ready to start picking things up again because I miss it.”
“I’m really glad to hear that,” Adrien said, his voice earnest and gentle and soothing.
“I’m not quite sure what that future looks like yet,” Marinette confessed. “But I think I’m ready to start moving forward on it. I’ll do some searching, maybe look for a boutique or tailor shop to work at.”
“I think that sounds like a really good idea, Marinette.”
She turned back to Adrien, only to melt under his affectionate gaze. With this man at her side supporting her like that, she felt like she really could do anything she put her mind to.
“Enough about me,” she said, shifting in her chair so as to face him better. “What about you? What’s your wish? Don’t think I forgot our promise you made me.”
“I didn’t,” he assured, twisting in his own seat to face her more. “I’ve been looking. And don’t judge me, but… I decided that I want to continue working for your parents.”
“Yeah?”
Adrien nodded. “I’ve done my own soul searching, thinking about what kind of jobs I might take. Deciding if I wanted to go to university or find a trade job. Laid out all my options that sounded interesting along with all the pros and cons of those jobs on so many pieces of paper that I lost my desk under that pile. And what I came to is me realizing I’m really happy with where I’m at and the people I’m working with. I did think about going to my old fencing school, though, and taking up that pastime again. But I’m uncertain if my reputation would precede me or not.”
Marinette shrugged. “If that’s what you want to do, doesn’t hurt to try.”
A small smile picked up Adrien’s lips. “We’ll see. I won’t rule it out yet until I know the answer.”
“As happy as I am to hear your progress,” Marinette began. “I also can’t help but wonder if you will for sure be happy with that. Because I feel like there’s more that you’re not telling me.”
For a moment, Adrien studied her with a small amount of surprise before relaxing with a sigh. “You really know me, don’t you?”
“Well, you do return the favor,” she said with a wink.
He huffed in amusement. “Yeah… guess I do.” He then took a fortifying breath. “Marinette, I definitely should have asked you this before I proposed, so I’ll ask you now. Do you want kids?”
Marinette’s brow furrowed in confusion before her stomach twisted into a knot. “Did we really never talk about that?”
A slight panic began to settle in Adrien’s expression. “No, I don’t think it ever came up.”
Exasperated, Marinette tapped her forehead with her fist. “Wow, what a fail,” she muttered before turning back to him. “Yeah, I do want kids. Two or three sounds like a good number. Is that okay with you?”
Marinette watched as Adrien’s shoulders relaxed as relief washed over his face, and she took that as a good sign. “Two or three sounds amazing.”
“Good,” Marinette said, feeling a sense of relief settle over her, as well. “I’m glad.”
“That being said,” Adrien continued. “Back to me working here, part of me wants to take up your parents’ legacy and then one day, be able to give the option of passing on the legacy to our kids.”
A gentle breeze blew by them, yet despite that, Marinette still felt her cheeks grow hot. “You…”
Adrien grinned. “I mean, there might end up being some other place I’d like working, but for the first time, I feel like I belong somewhere. I belong with you and your parents who’ve welcomed me with open arms. And cherishing and protecting that is more important than my job, you know? So, I want to stay here and be a part of this warm place with the people I care about and build something around this warmth. That’s my dream.”
Her heart hurt. She wasn’t even sure why it hurt, only that there were too many thoughts and feelings and emotions piling on top of each other and weighing on her heart. “Oh Adrien.”
She stood from her own seat, only to plop down in Adrien’s lap. He grinned, instantly cuddling her close to his heart and pressing a kiss to the top of her head. “You mean the world to me, Marinette. And I don’t really care anymore about shooting for the stars when I can have something far more grounded and stable and warm right where I’m at.”
She settled against him, nestling under his chin and relishing just being there with him. “Only if that’s for sure what you want.”
“It is.”
“Then you will always have my support.”
He squeezed her close once again, holding her tightly. It spoke all the words she needed to hear, yet he still whispered, “Thank you so much, Marinette. I love you so much.”
She smiled, feeling warm and oh-so-very-happy. “I love you, too.”
 26. Moonlit Dance
It had taken months of planning and scoping out venues and securing everything needed. But finally, things were almost completed and the wedding was a month away.
Adrien was stoked.
However, there was still one thing he and Marinette had to sort out.
“We are not waltzing at the wedding.”
“Aww. Why not, princess?”
Marinette’s nose crinkled as she pouted. “Because…”
“Because?...” Adrien prodded. He didn’t think he was being unreasonable considering he’d let Marinette plan most of it and only wanted a couple things himself, this one included. Marinette had originally agreed… before hearing what it was.
“Because I don’t want to accidentally step on your toes.”
Adrien snorted in his attempt to hold back a laugh. “Come on. I’ll show you. It’s not that hard.”
“I seriously doubt that.”
“Oh?” Adrien raised a brow, growing grin on his face. “Is that a challenge?”
Marinette glared at him.
He chuckled then held out his hand for her to take as he bowed before her like a dance partner would. “Come on, princess. Partake in this moonlight dance with me.”
Marinette looked around the balcony they stood on, one covered with her chairs and a little table and basket plants. “There’s like… no room up here.”
He… had to concede to that. “Not for a waltz, no, but that’s not the point.”
Marinette glanced at his hand before looking back up at him, the fight leaving her eyes. “You really want to?”
“Well,” Adrien drawled out, feeling a bit mischievous. “If I’m being perfectly honest with you, this isn’t quite the moonlight dance I’d like to do with you.”
He watched confusion shroud Marinette’s face. “Huh?”
In a flash, he snatched her hand, pulling her flush with his chest. She gasped at the action, her eyes wide like a deer in the headlights. Chuckling, Adrien lowered his lips next to her ear. “Yup, but the wedding is a month away, so I can wait until then,” he whispered.
Marinette, sharp as she was, caught his implication immediately. Sputtering, she shoved his chest, pushing away from her. “A-adrien!”
It was rare whenever Adrien caught Marinette totally off-guard like this. Normally, she had the upper hand or at the very least was able to retort back. But to see her so flustered stoked a fire in him, and if anyone thought he was going to waste the opportunity he was given and not continue to press his luck as far as it could go, they were wrong. “Awww, what’s with the surprise, princess? No witty comebacks today?”
She pouted, turning her face away, likely to hide the blush on her cheeks. “Oh, shut up.”
He snorted a laugh. “Wow, you’re really off your game if you’re resorting to snapbacks like that.”
“And you’re nothing but a tomcat if your head goes to the gutter with the words ‘moonlight dance’.”
“Only if it gets under your skin.”
“... okay, that was purposefully bad wording.”
“Look whose head is in the gutter now.”
Marinette rolled her eyes. “Why do you always have to start these things?”
“Um, excuse me, but I have a hickey on my collarbone that says otherwise.”
She huffed, turning her head away and remaining silent
Adrien grinned, stepping up closer to her once again. “Oh? Did a cat catch your pretty tongue? Let me see.”
Before he could pull her face back towards him, she turned, sticking her tongue out at him.
And he caught her face in his hands and kissed her.
It didn’t last long, but he had made sure to kiss her hard and fierce, wanting to keep her surprised and on her toes. “Aww,” he teased once he had forced himself to pull away. He had to restrain himself to not immediately go back in for more. “This cat almost caught it.”
She looked positively red now. “Adrien, I swear…”
“Hmm?” he goaded. “What was that? Couldn’t quite catch the end of tha—mmpf!”
She didn't let him finish. She dug her fingers in his hair and yanked him closer, smashing her lips on his.
Oh, it was on.
He shoved her backwards. She struggled against him, not wanting to let him win. She never wanted to let him win. But they’d done this enough times for Adrien to know she wasn’t mad about his actions, or else she would have stopped and told him to knock it off.
Since she didn’t, he took that as an okay to keep shoving her backwards into the wall. She moaned into his mouth, suddenly using the wall to her advantage and pressing her body against him, and Adrien practically forgot how to breathe.
Gradually, what had started a battle slowed to a sensual tango as lips and tongues and hands lead and followed in time. Adrien was going to die between the way Marinette raked her fingernails along his scalp and across his shoulders and down his arms and…
Shit, what were they doing again? Because Adrien’s mind was shrouded in a thick haze that only allowed him to think of one thing.
Marinette.
She won this battle. Just like she did every time. He was such a goner when it came to her that he rarely minded. If marrying this woman meant she’d harass him within an inch of his life then turn around and black his mind out like this…
Where did he sign up and how fast could he do it?
It took him until much much later to realize the answers were A) he already had and B)less than a month’s time.
 27. Future Kids
It was a week after the wedding, and Marinette and her idiot husband were just getting back from their honeymoon. The amount of make-up both of them would be wearing for the next week was shocking. And that was just on the visible marks they’d left on each other.
“Home sweet home,” Adrien said, opening the door to his-apartment-turned-their-apartment. He still had half a year left on his lease, in which time they’d go on the hunt for a new place. For now, the challenge of living together would be complicated less by moving. And it was best not to break the lease early if they could help it.
“My boxes are still everywhere,” Marinette commented, referring to the fact she’d brought several boxes of her things over. She still hadn’t moved all her stuff over yet, half her sewing supplies still residing in her parents’ house for the time being until they figured out where everything would go in the small place.
“You’re just settling in. I don’t mind it for now.” Adrien then turned to her, wrapping his arms around her waist to pull her in close. “This mess just means I get to have my wife live with me now.”
Marinette couldn’t help but smile, but before she could say a word, her phone went off. Adrien pouted, muttering something about the phone stealing her away, but she just laughed it off before checking it anyway.
“Oh, is it your mom?” Adrien said, looking at her phone as well. “Answer that.”
She shook her head. Adrien loved her parents and her parents loved him. Had Marinette not married him, they probably would have adopted him.
She answered the phone. “Hey, maman. I’ve got you on speaker.”
“Hey, Sabine,” Adrien said, sunny smile back on his face.
“Hi, Adrien,” her maman warmly greeted. “I won’t make this long for now, but you know Tom and I want to hear all about your trip. So, how about you come over for dinner tonight?”
“Yes!” Adrien instantly answered.
“Glad to hear it. Then I’ll see you both tonight at seven?”
“Sounds like a plan.”
“Um, I’m still here,” Marinette cried, good-naturedly.
“Sorry, sweetie,” her maman said with a giggle. “But it’s not like you have objections to that, right?”
Actually, Marinette did have objections, but she also knew that her parents were either going to ask her now or later, and since that ‘later’ might end up being during work, she might as well get it out of the way now. “No. No objections.”
“Great. Then I’ll see you both tonight.”
“See you then, Sabine.”
“Bye, Maman.”
“Bye, you two.”
After Marinette hung up, the smile dropped from her face as she sighed.
“Huh? Something wrong?” Adrien asked.
“No, not necessarily.”
“Yeah? What’s ‘not necessarily’ entail?”
Marinette took a breath. “Maman and Papa are going to start with asking about the trip, but I know them, specifically my papa, and at some point during this conversation, they—specifically Papa—are going to ask when they can expect grandkids.”
Seemingly unperturbed, Adrien just shrugged. “And we say ‘we don’t know yet’. Field the questions. It’s not like we don’t want kids, but neither of us know when the best time would be to start for them. Easy.”
“You say that now,” Marinette grumbled.
Adrien tilted his head, looking a little like a confused puppy.
Cute.
“Is that the wrong answer?”
“No,” Marinette dismissed. “It’s just that you say it so easily.”
“When it comes to your parents, talking with them is easy.”
“Then I’ll let you field those questions,” Marinette said, slipping out of his embrace. “I am going to go shower.”
“Oh, can I come with?” Adrien asked, sparkle in his eye and hope in his voice.
She scoffed, feeling a little bit of heat creep up her neck. “No, because I actually want to shower.”
“So do I.”
“Then wait your turn.”
“Why, though? Can’t I just come with you?”
“I don’t know. Will you behave?”
“I promise!”
Marinette huffed. “Yeah, I know what happened over the honeymoon. I don’t believe you.”
“So cruel,” Adrien said, pantomiming being stabbed in the heart. “It wasn’t like you slipped into the shower against my will two nights ago.”
Marinette paused. She supposed she did do that.
But considering what followed, it was hardly ‘against his will’.
“So…” His smile suddenly turned devious, and Marinette found herself thinking that grin was incredibly hot. “I guess I’ll just have to call ‘fair fair’ and return the favor.”
Okay, whatever you say, Hot Stuff. Do your worst.
She shoved that thought down as quickly as it came up, knowing she had to remain responsible or else they were totally going to miss dinner. She checked the time on her phone, biting her lip in deliberation. “Here’s the deal,” she eventually said. “Set an alarm; we shut this whole thing down with plenty of time to make ourselves presentable before we go over there.”
Adrien looked like a cat that got the cream, and Marinette knew by the racing of her heart that she was in trouble. But she’d realized during her honeymoon that she’d signed up for this.
She’d also realized during the honeymoon that she really didn’t mind.

Lukadrien: Your Hands Hold Home: Chapter Eleven
@lukadrien-june
Read it on AO3: Your Hands Hold Home: Chapter Eleven: Soulmates
The summer afternoon drifted by peacefully as Luka and Adrien sat up on the deck of the Liberty, basking in the warmth of the sun.
Luka was trying to figure out the bridge to the song he was writing about Adrien while Adrien lounged in a nearby deckchair reading Sailor Moon.
Luka just so happened to look up and find tears streaming down Adrien’s cheeks.
“Hey. You all right?” he called in concern.
“Oh. Sorry,” Adrien chuckled sheepishly, swiping at the tear tracks. “I’m fine. Just thinking too much and being overly sentimental.”
Luka set aside his violin and pulled his chair over next to Adrien’s.
“Hey.” He rested a hand on Adrien’s forearm. “Don’t dismiss your feelings like that. That’s your father talking, and he’s wrong.”
Adrien’s gaze dropped to the manga in his lap. “It doesn’t feel like he’s wrong, though. I feel silly.”
“Talk to me?” Luka urged gently, trying not to press too hard.
It was a fine line to walk between supportive and pushy with Adrien. He wanted Adrien to open up to him on his own terms, because Adrien genuinely wanted to confide in him.
It was difficult, however, because Adrien was used to bowing to others’ demands, and Luka didn’t want to accidentally force Adrien into speaking because Adrien thought that that was what Luka wanted.
Adrien was a people pleaser and likely to steamroll over his own boundaries if he thought it would make others happy.
“Only if you want to talk about it,” Luka added softly, giving Adrien’s arm a squeeze. “I’m here for you, okay?”
Adrien bit his lip and turned to gauge Luka’s reaction. “…Do you… Do you believe in soulmates?”
Luka blinked and thought about the question for a moment before answering honestly. “I think they’re a lovely idea. It’s nice to think that, out there somewhere, there’s someone made especially for you…but I don’t actually think the world works that way.”
“Oh,” Adrien breathed, expression carefully neutral. “Why is that…do you think?”
Luka shrugged. “I’m also kind of a rebel. I don’t like it when other people make decisions for me, so I don’t really like the idea of the universe setting me up with someone without my consent. The choice of a life-mate is probably the most important decision you can make; I want some say in that.”
“Oh,” Adrien repeated, considering Luka’s points. “I mean…I can see that, but…what makes you think that they don’t exist?”
“Life experience,” Luka answered with a sheepish smile. “I’ve been in love a couple times, and there have been a few different people I could see making a life with. I read somewhere once that there were maybe twenty different people that any given person could be compatible with, and I think that’s true. I mean, off the top of my head, I can think of two people I’d consider as ‘soulmates’ for myself.”
Adrien’s expression darkened. He could easily guess that one of Luka’s potential “soulmates” was Marinette. The other, he suspected, was XY, and the thought made his stomach roil with jealousy and hurt.
“I think the idea of soulmates is nice,” Luka continued, missing the shift in Adrien’s mood, “but I don’t believe in them. I like to think that I make my own decisions. Besides, what about people who aren’t interested in romance or relationships? Do they just not have soulmates or are their soulmates more of a queerplatonic arrangement or…?”
Luka trailed off as he noted the sour look cutting into Adrien’s face. “I’m sorry. Was that the wrong answer?”
Adrien’s head jerked up. “What?”
“Sorry,” Luka repeated. “I didn’t mean to try to shove my views down your throat. And I could totally be wrong. I’m certainly not some kind of supreme deity or anything, so who am I to say that there’s no such thing as soulmates? I didn’t mean to insult you if you believe in soulmates.”
Adrien shook his head, waving away Luka’s concern. “No. It’s fine. You didn’t insult me. I just…”
He bit the inside of his lips, eyes tracing the picture on the manga cover in his lap. “I used to think that Ladybug was my soulmate. I mean…we were supposed to be ‘two halves of the same whole’ and all that, but…”
He shook his head again, a dark smile tugging at his lips. “It was just wishful thinking. She was never interested in me like that, and the truth is that the previous Guardian just randomly picked the two of us, so it’s not like it was some grand plan of the universe or anything. It was just luck and coincidence. I was fooling myself.”
“Adrien…” Luka whispered, tightening his hold on Adrien’s forearm.
Adrien looked up and slapped on a fake grin. “Besides, there’s no hope for a relationship with her now that it turns out my father was our arch nemesis this whole time. I’m a complete failure as a hero, Luka. I was living under the same roof as Papillon, and I had no idea for half a decade. There’s no way—”
“—Stop,” Luka commanded, standing and pulling Adrien to his feet as well.
The Sailor Moon manga tumbled to the deck, pages flapping.
“Just stop, okay?” Luka tugged Adrien into a hug, squeezing him tightly.
“Stop and breathe and quit being so mean to yourself,” Luka instructed.
The tension quickly flowed out of Adrien’s body, and he melted into the embrace.
“Marinette would never rule you out as a romantic partner just because of your father,” Luka stressed, wishing he could make Adrien see reason. “And you’re not a failure as a hero. How many times do I have to tell you how amazing you are?”
“At least once more,” Adrien chuckled mirthlessly into Luka’s chest.
“You’re amazing, Adrien,” Luka insisted. “If Plagg were here, he’d say the same thing. It wasn’t your fault you didn’t know about your father. How could you know when he always kept himself shut up like he did? You hardly saw the guy. No one can blame you for what happened. Marinette certainly doesn’t.”
Adrien nodded lethargically. “Yeah. I know. I just…it’s hard not to be down on myself.”
“Yeah,” Luka whispered. “Yeah, I know, but try to hang in there and think positive.”
Adrien made a halfhearted noise of agreement.
Luka squeezed tighter. “You’re going to be okay. You’re a magnificent person, P5, and, someday, you’re going to meet someone amazing who sees how special you are.”
“…Like how you do?” Adrien inquired, pulling back just enough to catch Luka’s reaction.
Surprise flitted across Luka’s face and was then replaced by a warm smile. “Yeah. Just like how I do.”
Adrien laughed, resting his head back on Luka’s shoulder. “No one sees the good in me like you do, Orpheus.”
Luka gave in and indulged himself a little by resting his head on top of Adrien’s. “In that case, I’ll be your soulmate, if you want. I mean, if no one else is vying for the position.”
“The job’s yours if you want it,” Adrien replied in a way that implied that he thought no one in their right mind would want the position.
“It’s funny how, just a month ago, I had fans willing to literally maim and kill for a chance to get close to me…but, now, no one’s interested,” he mused.
Luka shook his head. “Well, now you know who your true friends are, at least.”
“There’s not a lot of people left standing,” Adrien observed glumly.
“But the ones who are are good ones.” Luka tried to help Adrien shift his perspective. “You’ve got Nino and Alya…Chloé, Kagami, Wayem, Marinette, Rose, Juleka… And your classmates are sticking by you, aren’t they? The people who really know you are still on your side.”
“…Yeah,” Adrien agreed, slowly warming to the idea. “I guess you’re right…. And there’s you. I haven’t lost you.”
“You’ll never lose me,” Luka promised. “…Maybe we need to have some of your friends over. I know you call and text and go places to hang out with them, but you’ve been here almost three weeks, and you haven’t had anyone over yet. You should call Nino and have bro time.”
Adrien looked up again. “Really? That would be okay?”
Luka laughed. “You see how people regularly wander in and out of this houseboat. Do you think anyone would care if you had some friends over?”
Adrien considered this for a moment. “…No?”
Luka nodded. “No. No one would care. You should see if Nino’s doing anything and have him over to hang out.”
Adrien bit his lip. “Would you hang out with us too?”
Luka shrugged. “If you want me there.”
A bright smile stretched across Adrien’s lips. “Yeah. I’d like if we could all spend time together. I’d like you to get to know my friends better.”
Luka’s eyes widened as he was pleasantly surprised by Adrien’s words. “Yeah. I’d…I’d like that too.”
“I mean, you should know them if I’m going to marry you someday,” Adrien teased, pulling away with a wink.
Luka choked. “What?”
“You know. Since you’ve volunteered to be my soulmate.” Adrien scooped up his book and stuck out his tongue as he started to make his way back below deck.
Luka stared after him for a good minute as all kinds of metaphorical fireworks went off.
It killed him when Adrien flirted.

It’s the post everyone’s been waiting for!
It’s taken a little while for me to get around to this, but it’s worth it for being able to make a full reaction post. This is really long so I’ll put it under a cut, but check it out for my complete scene-by-scene reaction of Miraculous’ “Felix” episode! (´∀`)♡
Tumblr media
Okay, I’ve been putting this off for days now so it’s time to finally get to it. I’m comfy and undisturbed and have my supplies ready to go.
I know next to nothing about what I’m going into. I’ve seen a little bit here and there because some people haven’t tagged their content properly, but I haven’t watched either of the trailers. I haven’t even looked directly at the images of Felix which have been going around. I’ve tried to stay as blind as possible, so as a result I’m pretty excited but also very anxious. I’ve taken two beta blockers today and I’m considering taking a third.
I usually liveblog episodes on our Ladybug PV Discord server (message me for an invite!) but this time I’m making a proper post out of it. I’ll be typing up my reactions as I go then cleaning everything up a little bit afterwards. I think it’s the first time I’ve done something like this on my blog so here goes!
Tumblr media
- “Script: Thomas Astruc” NO. HE REALLY COULDN’T JUST STEP AWAY FROM THIS EPISODE GRACEFULLY, COULD HE. HE HAD TO GET HIS HANDS DIRTY. I’m not going to say “fuck this man” but, you know, identical sentiments. I’m opening my chocolate bar.
- God, Emilie looks more like ET every time I see her. Such an awkward model.
- Oh but wait, Sébastien Thibaudeau was on the script? That does actually give me some hope! Next to Zag himself he’s the only writer on this mess of a show I trust. HE FIXED WAYHEM, CAN HE DO FELIX A SOLID TOO? PLEASE. PLEASE SÉBASTIEN OL BUDDY OL PAL OL FRIENDA MINE
- Does Gabe have anything else to say to his wife other than monologuing his Miraculous plan over and over? They say people in comas can still hear things but Emilie’s probably double unconscious from how boring her husband is.
- DON’T LIKE THAT KNIFE SOUND EFFECT FROM THOSE RINGS. Am I supposed to find it sweet that Gabe’s taking such good care of their wedding bands or is he about to use them for evil? Also where’s Felix.
Tumblr media
- ADRIEN SWEETHEART. I maintain that it’s weird to have a statue of your wife/mother/self in your own garden but it kills me that he’s just sitting there in front of it like a lost kitten.
- “Of course, someone will get you right away.” IS THAT FELIX. WAS SHE ON THE PHONE TO FELIX. WHERE’S MY SON, NATHALIE HAVE YOU SEEN MY SON
- That wide-eyed look Adrien turns up towards the window is killing me even more. I’M SO SAD. I see he also hasn’t noticed he’s sitting in the middle of a giant butterfly circle, unless he’s so used to it being Gabe’s logo that he’s just not paying it any mind. When was this all built? Has Gabe always used a butterfly motif even before he got his Miraculous and it was just a great coincidence, or did he commission this whole garden area after Emilie went missing? I guess you could pass it off as eccentricity but in the real world that would be a HUGE red flag that Gabe murdered her. I dunno man.
- DON’T WAVE AT HIM LIKE THAT, NATHALIE. YOU RATTED HIM OUT IN 5 SECONDS IN THAT THEORETICAL FUTURE WHERE YOU DISCOVERED HE WAS CHAT NOIR. YOU DON’T CARE ABOUT THIS BOY. >:V
- “It’s been one year.” HAS IT? Hasn’t Adrien been at school for at least a year now? Didn’t his mom vanish two years prior to that?! Maybe she’s talking about how long Gabe has been fighting Ladybug and Chat Noir but knowing this show’s messy timeline it could be anything. WHERE’S FELIX.
Tumblr media
- That’s the song from Chat Blanc! Was that something his mom taught him? OH NO, I’M EVEN SADDER NOW. This is what I mean about Sébastien’s writing, we’d never get this kind of focus on Adrien from Garbage Man Astruc. This kind of character exploration does wonders for ML whenever it’s brought up so I hope this is consistent.
- SHIT, GABRIEL’S OUT OF THE HOUSE. SOMETHING’S WRONG. THOSE EXPENSIVE LEATHER SHOES HAVEN’T TOUCHED ACTUAL GROUND IN YEARS. ADRIEN GET OUT OF THERE.
- I do like that Adrien doesn’t get up when his dad comes to stand right next to him like that. It’s just informal enough. He’s waiting for Gabe to make the first move this time and that’s nice development considering how stiff and cold their relationship was in S1.
- OOOOH GABE THAT’S AN AWKWARD CROUCH. Any lower down and his back is going to go. He’ll be stuck there. I do LOVE that he’s trying though, I don’t even know what he’s going to say to Adrien but this is already SO good.
- “There’s something important I have to talk to you about.” Finally time for The Talk, huh.
- GABE PLEASE. ADRIEN’S WAY TOO CHIRPY TO HAVE ACTUALLY CAUGHT ON TO WHAT YOU WERE GOING TO SAY. HE THINKS YOU’RE TRYING TO SAY YOU LOVE HIM OR SOMETHING ELSE RIDICULOUS
- “I’ve noticed how close you and Nathalie have become!” CLOSE ENOUGH. Still in the ballpark of Adrien thinking his dad has real human feelings!
- “HOW COULD YOU POSSIBLY THINK SUCH A THING??” I GENUINELY LAUGHED OUT LOUD AT HOW ANGRY GABE WAS ABOUT THAT. I’m not sure what to think of the “Nathalie replacing Emilie when Emilie’s technically still alive” plot either but GABE’S DECIDED FOR ME. Also good job yelling in your son’s face when you were JUST having a moment, good luck getting back up off your knees in order to storm away, old man.
- Oh alright, he did get up, but it was with a strange angry bow-legged prance. I think he still had trouble.
- I love the way Adrien just kinda wide-eye-blinks at him, like Gabe’s emotional outburst is going totally over his head. He’s been dealing with akuma FAR too long to be bothered by this.
- Guests, plural? I’m guessing Felix is one of them but is he with someone else? That makes sense given he’s (as far as I’ve gathered) the same age as Adrien so he wouldn’t be running around far from home unchaperoned, but OHHH this is so interesting.
- So they ARE claiming it’s been one year since Emilie vanished! This just doesn’t work as a Season 3 episode, especially with Nathalie and Gabe’s romantic development being as far along as it is. Emilie’s been gone for at LEAST three years by this point! Read your show bible once in a while you horrible garbage man!!! Also ADRIEN SWEETHEART THAT’S A LITTLE PREMATURE. You can say “went away forever” when you’re three years into her disappearance, the anniversary of one year really isn’t long enough to claim she’s never coming back!
Tumblr media
- OH NO, IT’S THE GIRLS. I’m already bored. Unless Luka is here I really just do not care what they’re all up to. I haven’t missed Marinette at ALL in the first two-and-a-half minutes and I don’t want to see her now. WHERE’S FELIX.
- I’m sorry, how are Lila, Chloé AND Kagami all on a video call together without any blood being drawn? Also for god’s sake PLEASE leave Adrien alone, you want to ask first if he’d LIKE some company or if he’d prefer a quiet personal day to think about his mom? OF COURSE NOT MARINETTE, YOU WOULDN’T WOULD YOU.
- Okay, a video message is definitely a better idea than trying to break into his house AGAIN. At least then he can watch it whenever he feels up to it. The first good, safe, noninvasive idea Mari’s had for SEVERAL episodes when it comes to Adrien.
- I’M REALLY TORN WHEN IT COMES TO THE ENGLISH DUB. On one hand I hate how little screentime Nino has when he’s not just being Alya’s fashion accessory, but on the other hand I’m so glad they switched scenes the moment Nino started his video because I CANNOT handle his dub voice. Nino just deserves better in general really.
Tumblr media
- HE WAS CRYING. MY BOY WAS CRYING AGAIN. I’M NOT COOL WITH THIS. IT’S NOT ABOVE YOUR PAYGRADE TO GIVE HIM A HUG, NATHALIE.
Tumblr media
- ALRIGHT HI ELSA. IS THIS HIS AUNT? THAT’S SPOOKY.
- Her name is Amelie? So their parents had twins and named them Amelie and Emilie, and they turned out the same right down to the over-the-shoulder Dead Anime Mom hairstyles? That’s lazy parenting down to a tee, can’t mix your twins up if you never have to learn the difference between them in the first place! But that’s INTERESTING that Felix is (I assume, still haven’t seen him yet) from Emilie’s side of the family, I’ve always had the impression he was a petit Gabriel.
Tumblr media
- OHHH THAT’S MY BOY! I CAN SEE MY BOY IN THE DOORWAY!!! OH MY GOD GIVE HIM TO ME. GIVE ME FELIX. GIVE ME MY SON.
- ADRIEN IMMEDIATELY JUMPING ON HIM IN A HUG IS ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. WHILE FELIX’S HAND IS STILL OUTSTRETCHED FOR A HANDSHAKE. I know this episode is going to go downhill because there’s no way it won’t, but this one single moment is EVERYTHING I WANTED. I should just close the tab now and leave it at this, I really should.
- “Do you remember when they used to have so much fun pretending to be each other? Once they had you and Emilie fooled for a whole weekend!” WHERE HAS THIS BEEN FOR MY ENTIRE ORDEAL GETTING THROUGH THIS SERIES. I don’t even care if this Felix is a stone cold bitch, it’s enough to know he and Adrien were besties when they were kids and Adrien still wanted to hug him the second he walked through the door. AMAZING.
- “I WON’T BE FOOLED A SECOND TIME.” WHAT DOES THAT MEAN, GABE. THEY WERE PROBABLY TODDLERS. ARE YOU JUST SO USED TO GETTING YOUR ASS HANDED TO YOU BY CHILDREN THAT YOU’RE SUSPICIOUS OF EVERY SINGLE ONE NOW
- Aww, Felix is American (dubbed, anyway). I was really hoping he’d be British with all the references to London over the last season. He does have a nice voice though! I can tell he shares Adrien’s actor but he’s got the softness I’d have expected from his character. There’s kind of an interesting look about his face though, I wish they’d tweaked it a bit to give him a sharper look but I guess he IS like 14, he can afford to still have a bit of baby-cheeked roundness. I’m going to find the positives in every part of this because I will NOT give Garbage Man Astruc the satisfaction of being disappointed like I know he wants me to be. It’s been a fucking war from the moment I saw his name in the writing credits and my best weapon is being pleased about everything in this episode.
- Okay, he looks a little better in the following closeup where his eyes are slightly narrowed. I think it’s the slightly-below-the-chin angle which doesn’t really work for his character model with his soft cheeks and high collar. FELIX IS A BABY.
- WHY WILL NOBODY SHAKE HIS HAND. Adrien hugged him instead and Gabe is ignoring him completely, Felix is clearly so perplexed and I love it. He’s fourteen! He’s fourteen and doing his best with social graces but NOBODY WILL HELP HIM.
- “Felix, you know your uncle’s never been the physical sort!” HE KICKED HIS OWN SON RIGHT ACROSS PARIS IN THE LAST EPISODE BUT SURE, IF YOU SAY SO.
- “Oh, how sweet! You’re still wearing your wedding band!” YEAH? IT’S BEEN LIKE A YEAR?? Again this would make more sense if it had been around three years like we KNOW Emilie’s been gone for, but picking someone out for still wearing their ring after 12 months?! And why isn’t Amelie more emotional about this anyway, isn’t it her sister who’s missing? I wouldn’t be poking fun at MY sister’s husband for keeping his ring if SHE went missing. No wonder Felix seems like he turned out weird.
- I CAN’T MAKE OUT THE NAME OF HER BRANCH OF THE FAMILY AND IT’S KILLING ME. SOMEONE LET ME KNOW WHAT THAT WAS. Graham de Vanily? I can’t place the words. I mean I’m going to keep calling Felix “Agreste” no matter what but I’d like to know what canon is trying to get at.
- “It’s been a long journey from London” I KNEW IT, I FFFFFFFFFUCKING KNEW IT. SO THEY ARE BRITISH?! BUT THEY HAVE AMERICAN ACCENTS?! I mean I guess they’re French first and foremost, but what the fuck is with the American accents if you’re making a POINT about them being from London?! I can’t wait for the French audio to be released, I really want to know what Felix sounds like there. Regardless AAAH MY SON IS FROM MY CITY, I’M SO PLEASED.
- “TakeFelixtoyourbedroom.” EASY GABE THEY JUST MET, ALSO THEY’RE COUSINS
- Poor Felix looks so depressed being saddled with Adrien. Sweetie it’s okay, think positive! You could be stuck with Marinette and THAT would be a true nightmare.
- Now why does Felix keep glancing at Gabe? Is there something going on there? Is he suspicious about what happened to his aunt? I can’t imagine he knows anything about the Miraculous so what’s the deal here?
Tumblr media
- UuuuuUUUUGH we’re back with the rest of the gang. I’M NOT INTERESTED, SHOW ME MORE FELIX.
- “Help me Tikki! What would you tell a Kwami friend who’s lost their mom?!” You’re talking to a 5000-year-old demigoddess, Mari, I don’t think she’s gonna relate.
- MARI YOU CAN’T CONFESS TO ADRIEN. NOT AFTER CHAT BLANC. GABE WILL LOSE ALL HIS CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT TO WRECK THE LOVE SQUARE AND ALSO THE MOON’S GOING TO EXPLODE. WHY ISN’T BUNNIX HERE TO SLAP THE TABLET OUT OF YOUR HANDS
- Should Tikki really be encouraging this?! I have no idea where in the timeline this is supposed to be. Maybe this is at a stage where she doesn’t know Adrien is Plagg’s chosen so there’s no reason to steer Marinette away from bonding with him. Or maybe every episode just plays by its own rules and there’s really no such thing as continuity in this series. I want to see Felix again.
- YANKING AT AN ELECTRONIC DEVICE ON THE OUTER EDGE OF A BOAT ISN’T GOING TO END WELL. DON’T. I do love how :D Alya is about it though, if nothing else I love what a supportive friend she is.
- Oh, the tablet didn’t go into the water! I’m genuinely surprised by that. Though I imagine Felix is going to fuck things up in some way so he’ll probably be the one to destroy the video somehow. We all know the relationship development isn’t allowed to move forward so SOMETHING’S going to happen to it.
Tumblr media
- Thank god we’re back to the mansion. I’m surprised and pleased that (for now at least) we’re only getting the girls in small doses and the plot is mainly focused around the Agrestes. Gorizilla is my favourite episode to date and it did a similar thing with allowing Marinette to be a side character for once along an Adrien-centric plotline, so hopefully this episode will be similar. I’m liking its odds so far but who knows what Horrible Garbage Man Astruc has up his sleeve.
- “I’m really sorry I didn’t come to your dad’s funeral.” I’M SORRY WHAT? PARDON ME? THAT’S AN ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM I DIDN’T EXPECT. As a side note I love Felix being killer at basketball for some reason, he doesn’t look like the athletic type at ALL but he still made that net over his shoulder without even LOOKING. Goddamn. Can everyone please appreciate how cool my son is!!!
- “My father thought it would be too hard on me, considering everything that’s happened this year.” So Felix lost his dad VERY RECENTLY. OUCH. DON’T LIKE THAT. Or I DO like that because it’s already giving his character some extra depth when were still only just getting to know him, but on an emotional level I don’t like that.
- “He’s very... protective of me.” CHAT BLANC REALLY WAS A HOT MESS OF AN EPISODE WASN’T IT.
- Now Felix is giving Adrien a hug?! I didn’t see that one coming. My canon Felix would mean it but I don’t quite trust this new Felix yet, he’s probably up to something.
Tumblr media
- WHAT A JARRING PIANO TRANSITION. Also why?! What does he have to gain from swiping Adrien’s phone? He’s probably got a terrible roaming plan on his own mobile, that’s always my problem when I go to France. If you truly loved your cousin you’d let him browse Reddit on your phone, Adrien. This is worse than not coming to his dad’s funeral.
- PLAGG KNOWS SOMETHING’S UP. He ought to, in another life he and Felix are STILL dealing with each other.
- Okay I take back what I said about Felix’s voice. Bryce Whatshisface isn’t doing a very good job separating the tones. I can buy that Adrien and Felix sound very similar but their delivery should be completely different! I really do want to watch this in French, I get the feeling it’ll sound much better.
- AH YES, HERE WE GO. I’m getting the feeling this is Garbage Man’s part of the episode. Squished cheese aside, I do like the implication Felix does (or did) card magic and karate. I’m thinking of that Mickey Mouse episode where he vanishes Donald’s car keys with a hand trick except it’s Felix vanishing Marinette’s phone when she’s about to text Adrien or something. I’ve got to draw that.
- “Mind if I take a shower?” WHY, FELIX. I mean I’d probably want to shower too after the London-Paris commute (and I’m sure he’s only going in there to wreak havoc, put food colouring in Adrien’s shampoo bottles or something) but what a weird time to ask!
- I mean Plagg has a point about difficult home situations not justifying bad behaviour (and I feel like that’s not what’s going on, with how he was glaring at Gabe I think he’s behaving like this for some other reason), but Felix’s dad LITERALLY DIED. Like they had a funeral and everything. Emilie is just “missing”. They’re SIMILAR but that’s still a false equivalence because Adrien’s got hope to hold on to and Felix doesn’t.
Tumblr media
- So we’re not going to talk about how Felix got into Adrien’s passcode-protected phone? I guess he could have done the fogging-up-the-screen trick from Oblivio. Standing around in a steamy bathroom in three layers of clothing is a great way to sweat yourself out and ruin your hair though, way to get even more gross than a five-hour commute between countries.
- “Of course that idiot has a crush on a superhero!” EASY THERE, MR HOWLING-ON-A-ROOFTOP-BECAUSE-HE-SAW-THE-GIRL-HE-LIKED. WE’VE ALL SEEN THE PV.
- I’ve just noticed Felix has a ring too! I don’t know how I missed that before this scene! That’s NICE. He’s still not allowed to have it on his middle finger (LET HIM SWEAR) but that’s a nod back to Chat Noir which I really appreciate!
- ROSE HAS BEEN ON THE HELIUM. SOMETHING’S NOT RIGHT THERE.
- FELIX KNOWS CHLOÉ! THAT’S NICE, THAT’S GOOD. I LIKE THAT. That’s also a really nice little video from her, I love the few small moments we’ve had that affirm she and Adrien really ARE friends, whether she wants to date him or not.
- OOOH HE DELETED THE VIDEOS. I’m curious about him borrowing Adrien’s clothes too, are they going to dress the same? You’d think Adrien wouldn’t give someone an exact copy of the outfit he’s currently wearing but I genuinely don’t know if he owns anything different. I hope they don’t just use two Adrien models for the rest of the episode, please let me see Felix properly :/
- WHY. HONESTLY, WHY. CAN I PLEASE GET AN EXPLANATION FOR WHY FELIX IS DOING THIS.
Tumblr media
- OOOH MARI YOU’RE NOT GONNA LIKE THIS. I can imagine Felix is going to say something nasty and that’ll set the girls off and bring about the akuma of the week. I’m mildly entertained but I’m still not engaged with this idea without any proper explanation. We’d better get something by the end of the episode which justifies what’s made Felix do this, because “he’s just evil lol” would be a reeeeally low move from Garbage Man Astruc.
- MARI SWEETIE. YOU’VE GOTTA LEARN TO CHECK A ROOM IS EMPTY BEFORE YOU RUN INSIDE AND START FREAKING OUT VERY LOUDLY. LUKA’S HEARD ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING.
- Luka is such a nice character. Why does he get to be so high quality when Felix has been turned into a cheese-smashing phone-stealing gremlin? I mean I KNOW why, but I’d like to think the showwriters are better than this. They’re not, but I’d like to think they are.
- WHAT A VIDEO MESSAGE. I love how Luka’s just sitting there grimacing while Mari speeds off into battle, he doesn’t know what she’s about to do but he knows better than to try stopping her.
Tumblr media
- Back with Gabe and Nathalie. Is this what was being foreshadowed when Gabe claimed he wouldn’t be fooled by the boys’ identity switch twice? Is he GOING to be fooled again or will he be the one person who can tell immediately that this isn’t his son?
- “FELIX.” WOW, HE REALLY WASN’T FOOLED TWICE. RESPECT. He may have trouble getting up off the ground if he sits down too low but he can at least identify his child in a difficult situation like this, props to Gabe this week.
- “All this disappointment might just help us get rid of our unwanted guests!” SHUT YOUR MOUTH, FELIX IS A DELIGHT. The only unwanted guest here is Astruc on the writing team.
- “Felix... I told you that you couldn’t fool me twice.” Way to blow your identity in five seconds Gabe. I guess he hasn’t sent out the akuma yet so this might just be a personal monologue, but he starts addressing his victims directly so often at this stage that I’m really not sure what they can or can’t hear. SHIT’S RISKY.
- OH OKAY, SO HE’S SENDING THIS TRIPLE AKUMA AFTER FELIX? AND/OR ADRIEN, DEPENDING ON HOW HARD IT IS TO TELL THEM APART? I guess that’s what he means by getting rid of their guests, if the house is attacked by a monster (or monsters?) they aren’t going to want to stick around, but I REALLY HOPE YOU’RE TAKING ADRIEN’S WELLBEING INTO ACCOUNT HERE GABE OL BUDDY :/
- “TIKKI, SPOTS ON! MNUURGH” ME TOO MARINETTE. I’M REALLY ONLY 12 MINUTES INTO THIS.
Tumblr media
- I’m gonna be honest, I’m not really interested in the girls. I was hoping for a real triple akuma (like Oblivio was apparently Alya and Nino together) but they’re all just villains we’ve seen before. There’s stuff I could comment on here but I just want to see more of Felix, that’s what I’m here for.
- “Nathalie, get Adrien to a safe place far from his cousin!” YOU’RE REALLY JUST GONNA SACRIFICE FELIX LIKE THIS. I guess that makes sense, I WAS complaining during Chat Blanc that Adrien is Gabriel’s weak point, so all things considered I’m not surprised that he’ll protect Adrien but just flat-out wants Felix dead. Fair enough.
- WOW. I THOUGHT ADRIEN WAS GOING TO BE HEROIC AND DEFEND FELIX BUT HE WANTS HIM DEAD TOO. Or was that a double bluff to make the akuma think he MUST be Felix so he can lead them away and keep his cousin safe? He’s just run off with a wild cackle so I’m thinking it’s the latter. HE’S A GOOD BOY AND A TRUE HERO.
- I also find it kind of funny how Nathalie will jump in harm’s way to defend him when there have been INNUMERABLE other episodes of Gabe just setting an akuma directly on Adrien for the hell of it. Maybe because there isn’t really any ‘harm’ here to start with; the three girls’ powers are probably the least violent of all the akuma we’ve seen so far.
- AM I REALLY ABOUT TO SEE FELIX DRESSED AS ADRIEN DOING KARATE. I HOPE HE’S GOOD AT IT.
- OH MY GOD HE IS GOOD AT IT. That’s cool! I was expecting him to totally flop considering how badly his imposter trick went down a few minutes ago, but it’s nice to see he’s as capable at fighting as he is at basketball. When do I get to see his magic card tricks?
- YEAH I FEEL THE SAME PLAGG. WHAT’S EVEN HAPPENING. Not that I think Adrien shouldn’t save Felix, I just want to know WHY Felix felt like he had to do this in the first place! I feel like “can I PLEASE get a waffle” except instead of watching the employees fight I’m watching this episode careening away with no pauses to explain what’s going on.
Tumblr media
- FELIX C’MON. STOP CAUSING PROBLEMS ON PURPOSE. I can tell Garbage Man Astruc still has the reins here because causing even MORE trouble even AFTER Adrien saved his ass is a completely illogical course of action. PUT SÉBASTIEN BACK IN THE WRITERS CHAIR.
- “WHICH PART OF THE WORD ‘NO’ DID YOU NOT UNDERSTAND?!” Oh perfect, great, can’t let this episode end without accusing Felix of not respecting consent! That’s a hot button issue and if Garbage Man Astruc can get him on that bandwagon then fans HAVE to hate this character! Great move! Fucking pillock!
- WOW CHAT THAT’S MEAN. I guess accusing Felix of having no friends is justified in the context of the episode but yikes :(
- Was that a flash of humiliation from Felix there? God will one of the writers PLEASE save this character, PLEASE don’t let this episode end without someone getting him out of the Garbage Man’s big meaty claws.
Tumblr media
- Excuse me WHAT? Felix is talking directly to Papillon?! So he knows about all the Miraculous stuff?! Oh NO, is this about getting his dad back? I don’t know whether the One Wish is common knowledge (I don’t think it is?) but maybe Felix put the pieces together on his own back home, so all his behaviour here has been trying to incite an akuma that he can take advantage of to appeal to Papillon?! Or he could just be a bitch all on his own, which is probably what the Garbage Man would prefer, but this makes a lot of sense all of a sudden.
- BRO HE NEARLY DIED. BRO. BROOO.
- “I hope you’ve learned your lesson!” YOU’RE NOT EVEN GONNA ASK ABOUT THE PAPILLON THING? YOU CAN’T JUST TREAT THIS AS A REGULAR DISTURBANCE, FELIX KNOWS SHIT ABOUT THE MIRACULOUS YOU GUYS--
Tumblr media
- FELIX’S MOM IS REALLY GOING TO BLAME HIS DEAD DAD FOR THIS? HARD YIKES. NO WONDER FELIX IS WEIRD.
- I’m expecting this isn’t over, because Felix still clearly wants something specific that he didn’t get, but I’ll take this cute hug for what it is. He didn’t have an evil expression behind Adrien’s back this time either and the music is all soft and nice, plus he FINALLY got a handshake from Gabe, but I absolutely do NOT imagine this episode will end without getting an extra shot in at the PV fans somehow. We’re not getting off this easy.
- Why doesn’t Gabriel want Adrien to go after Felix? Is he scared he’ll try to run off, or ask them to stay longer when he really wants to get rid of them?
- AHAHA FELIX STOLE GABE’S RING. WHAT A BRAT. Was that the “jewelry” he mentioned wanting in return for helping Papillon? I figured it was a Miraculous thing but maybe not.
Tumblr media
- OHHH, look how much Felix loves his mom! This is such a sweet scene. I particularly like the idea that Amelie was trying to get the rings back to give one to Felix because the way she was speaking to Gabe made it sound like she wanted them Just Because. But you can’t mention some wild story connected to the rings and then not explain it! I want to know what that is, I want to know why Felix is so fascinated with it!!!
- ALSO, FELIX GETTING A BIG KISS RIGHT ON THE FOREHEAD. EXCELLENT. I’ll fucking BET this is another scene Sébastien sneaked in because it’s such an emotional quality shift from the whole clone mess. Like what the fuck even WAS that.
- Yep, Felix is still evil! WHY THOUGH. WHAT’S GOING ON. CAN I PLEASE GET A WAFFLE
- I was expecting a worse ending, but “Felix can’t ever come back to Paris because Gabriel will kill him with his bare hands if he does” is decent enough. If there’s no further confirmation (and NO, anything Garbage Man Astruc tweets later on does NOT fucking count so don’t try me) I’m going to take it that he WAS actually sorry for what he did to Adrien. That’s better than nothing.

WELL THAT WAS AN EPISODE. That actually wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be - it could have been a lot better but it could have been a lot worse too. The beginning and end were nice enough even if the middle part was Garbage Man Astruc’s usual atrocious mess of self-service, though I do particularly despise the hamfisted consent issue shoved in there just to generate extra reasons to hate the character. WE GET IT, YOU DON’T LIKE FELIX. OFF YOU FUCK.
I’ve slept on this next paragraph to give myself time to formulate some concrete thoughts about the plot, so... Well, it was a mess, that’s for sure. They spent way too much time establishing how oH sO eViL Felix was and not nearly enough time actually explaining his character.
Why is he acting out like this? What has he got against Adrien in particular? Is he really sore about Adrien not supporting him at his dad’s funeral or is that just what Adrien thinks is his problem? What was his relationship with his dad before he died? Was his troublemaking all about trying to provoke an akuma and ask Papillon to help him get his family rings back (which he was clearly trying to steal from the moment he walked through the door, only Gabe wouldn’t shake his hand the first time), or was that just a side effect of causing shit for no reason? Did he mean his apology to Adrien at the end? WHAT was the deal with the rings and the story attached to them? There’s a whole interesting story buried in here which just got completely overlooked by the emphasis on how terrible he was and that’s really disappointing.
I did like his damaged-but-still-good relationship with Adrien though, there’s still hope there and maybe Felix (if he ever shows up again, which I only hope he does if it’s NOT another excuse for Garbage Man Astruc to shit on the PV fandom again, for the love of FUCK don’t give this guy multiple opportunities) will start coming around and making the effort to be a better cousin since Adrien’s given him a second chance. I don’t know. What I liked just as much was Marinette actually barely being in this episode at all, for the first time since Gorizilla she’s ALLOWED to be the supporting character again and that’s GREAT.
I don’t really know what else to say. I’m exhausted. Adrien’s a darling and I think I prefer my Twin AU, though canon Felix being a delightful little gremlin who causes problems-on-purpose is something I can work with in the future too.
Thanks for coming on this... interesting journey with me! I posted a set of tweets last night which I’ll leave here to finish up:

Chapter 10
Richard Grayson never expected to meet someone who had an aura similar to Alfred's, but when he approached them after leaving the hotel and almost killed them with fright, he found that the existence of other like that was possible.
Hugo, as he presented himself, did them the favor of leading them to a house on the outskirts of Paris. Unlike Wayne Manor which is amazing to see, Lenoir Country House is like stepping into a magical garden worthy of being part of a movie set. Vines tangle in the wooden frames and arches forming a natural roof from which grapes hang, plus the rose bushes that cluster around. As they walk through what would be the totally green front garden, they begin to hear barking and, according to what they were seeing on social networks, Marie Lenoir's son has six dogs, two puppies and four adults, in addition to two cats (yes, they did their little research on the family and were able to see the only photograph of the boy, who has green eyes and a haunting resemblance to Bruce).
At the entrance of the house they are greeted by a gray-haired woman with a motherly gaze. She guides them through the small mansion to her employer's study, telling them some stories of the place's reform and how kind her boss is, letting the employees live in the house, in addition to informing them to be careful with the Animals that roam the house, can be very wild and are capable of knocking down adult men (he told the anecdote of Agatha rolling through the mud to Felix Graham de Vanily and Adrien Agreste at the same time).
Tim looks with interest at the scenery, everything is so… soft, warm and homey. The place is decently large, but it doesn't feel empty, not the way the mansion, even with everyone gathered, feels cold and lonely. In that house only three people are part of the Lenoir (if their observations are correct regarding Hugo).
As they walk down a hallway, they hear two different types of barking, but soon more join… until a black-haired boy pushes them aside as he runs, behind him come the four adult dogs and they manage to knock down Dick who had the unfortunate luck of not being moving in time, the two cubs pass over him.
A little subtly they hear the boyish childish laugh before crossing another hallway (although for Tim, it was more of an evil laugh).
"That boy, always doing his thing." The lady denies with a loving expression. "When I met him, he was very grumpy, he only gave us suspicious looks and observed us in everything we did, especially when we cooked. The first time he refused to eat something that had not been prepared by Miss Lenoir or Hugo, it was hard for him to trust us..."
"Looks like they had a rough start." Dick mentions curiously, wanting me to explain a little more about the boy. Marie has done a better job than Bruce keeping her son away from the media.
"I was, but I think it was worth it, he's a very special boy." She smiles and starts walking again, straight to the shrill noise of the dogs. They barely manage to hear the murmurs.
They enter the studio, a rather large and very elegant room in cream white and black. As they walk through the door, Marie looks up and drops the conversation she was having with her son, Damian turns and gives them a look of contempt, as if he really has something against them. Dick is openly confused by the boy's gaze.
"Welcome, Mr. Grayson and Mr. Drake." She smiles kindly and invites them to settle into the room, the dogs have already taken over a large part of the space. "Honey, why don't you take your friends out to play in the backyard?"
"They are very comfortable here, mother, besides, we have played all morning. We deserve a break. ”He responds politely and giving them another poisonous look, he sits on the black leather sofa (synthetic leather, of course) rising above them as the owner of the place.
Now Richard is much more confused, did they do something to offend the boy?
Tim is restless, the boy deliberately ran past his pack of dogs capable of taking down a Dick-sized man (maybe they could even knock someone like Jason or Bruce to the ground) and now he's subtly threatening them, maybe his older brother isn't I feel it as such, but Damian is drawing a line that if they cross, it will have consequences, and he doesn't want to imagine what that murderous-looking boy is capable of doing to them.
"Weren't you going to take measurements and ask what they want, mother?" Damian questions from her place, seeing that the three adults stood uneasily. Tim tries not to look in his direction, he has the feeling that he would smile darkly at him like a whole evil being.
"Sure..." She says and takes the tape measure from the desk and putting it on her shoulders, then picks up a pencil and her sketchbook. "So is it for an event or for everyday use?"
"Daily use, in my case". Dick responds as casually as he can, feeling the boy's gaze awkward. "Tim wants his suit for work."
"Comfort and elegance, I feel most of the time, but I need to be more than decent when executives decide to improvise a meeting." Tim looks around awkwardly. "It happens very frequently... and most are organized by Bruce"
Marie is aware of what Damian is doing, but doesn't understand the reasons, she has never had that behavior with a client and doubts that it's only because they are two men who border her age, there is something else and she's going to find out, these two men they mean something, her child only reacts to extremes when it comes to... his birth family. Well, mystery solved. Now, she will discover how to approach the issue.
She couldn't see the boy's reaction to his biological father's name, but ho gaze only intensified by throwing mental daggers at the younger of the two men, causing chills. Dick gives Damian a small look, yes, it's unsettling, but he's worried about the amount of contempt he has for them, he cannot even think about how sweet and pretty the designer is, because he's not blind and she's beautiful.
Damian takes out his phone and takes a subtle photograph that he sends to the chat he has with Felix, asking him to come help him intimidate those two men. She only receives a vague reply, but it's enough for him. Although his attention is slightly taken by the group chat, where he has the misfortune of being for being of all the members of the MT (official and unofficial) .. with a very subtle name and nobody don't want to tell him who was the genius who put it on, Although if he must guess, it must have been Kim. Between that and the ridiculous names, he's completely sure that it is his doing.
Marie spends the entire morning chatting with her two clients, Damian and her pack of dogs hang around the entire time. The two German Shepherds are very intimidating, especially Agatha whenever Richard leaned too closed to his mother.
Damian is not allowing his supposed brother to have even the slightest chance of becoming his alleged father. No, he prefers his mother's lover (whoever he is) a thousand times to anyone who is in any way related to his biological family.
----------
It's not the MT
The Antibiotic: Why wasn't told me the butterfly it was active?
Perfect Crime: Because, dear cousin, enough suffering is being married to the shrew.
Plasticine: Don’t invoke her, she’s worse than Satan.
Almost pretty: At least Satan is a good guy, he invited me for a few drinks when I went to Los Angeles with my mother.
Three balls: I signed him a comic, it's great.
Needle: I remember that day, he invited us to a trio
Dragon Tamer: I remind you that there is a child here.
Olive: Agreste, none warned you because they have the concentration capacity of a stick, that is, none.
Plasticine: And you?
Olive: I don't care enough to remember his existence.
The Antibiotic: At least you are sincere...
----------
At lunchtime, Felix arrives at the country house. The two clients are still there, after Damian left the room to go to the bathroom (he's still mad at his physiology for betraying him), Tim was more open about the details. Dick was also more relaxed and they even got into a little conversation around the stunts... until the boy returned.
Two things became clear to Dick: first, the boy has something against them, and second, he has a very heavy and intimidating presence. Very creepy if asked.
So, with everyone gathered in the dining room, it's almost a surprise to see Felix arrive carrying another puppy, Dick looks bitterly as the boy gets another dog, at least hde will not be there for when the puppy turns into a giant dog.
"Felix, what does this mean?"Marinette questions in dismay, none of her friends had given an animal to her son, most against her beacause allowing him to have so many pets (even though only Daphne lives in the apartment).
“A few nights ago I had an epiphany when I saw how a ridiculous suit was the solution to all our problems, so I decided to give Damian a Great Dane because… things can only be strange to a certain extent. "
"You're delusional." She wants to laugh at his logic, especially since he always seemed incredulous every time he saw a Lucky Charm, he always ended up talking to Tikki about it and ended the discussions regretting the loss of all logic (he gave up long ago time, but it seems that the last Akuma made him remember the strange things that it delivers).
"Anybody raves after that." Damian, take. ”The boy stands up to receive his new pet, showing a small and subtle smile when he takes the puppy in his arms. "I had a hard time getting it, I had to blackmail this friend of my mother who tried to sell it at exaggerated prices. "
Marinette gives him a warning look, refraining from saying what he did in front of her guests, can still save her family's reputation a bit after Damian nearly threatened them with kitchen knives (because the real weapons don't come out of the headquarters of the MT).
"Of course not, I made a deal, I can't reveal the circumstances of the deal." He smirks and  his gaze on Marinette's clients. "I'm sorry for my rudeness, I'm Felix Graham de Vanily."
"No problem, Richard Grayson." He gets up to shake hands and shake them, giving him a nice smile, Tim stays in his place and just introduces himself, looking at the blond man without being able to avoid that many expressions of the boy are reflected in him. Does Damian see him as his father figure? He's pleasant around him, although he has not seen how he acts in front of other people.
"Do you have lunch with us?" Marinette already knows the answer, but still asks for the employees to prepare another dish.
"Of course. "
"Does he have a name?" Damian asks after he has been stroking the puppy whose fur is completely black, who is happy to be cared for.
"No, you can put whatever you want and, for the love of all that is good, never ask my cousin about it again." Mariette smiles with amusement and settles again, although she knows that Damian will take a little longer to return to sit down.
"Pictso seems happy with his name." Damian says amused to see Felix's face contract, he enjoys teasing the adults around him (except his mother).
"It just shows that any creature that comes from my cousin has the same lousy taste as him."
"I thought that was established since he didn't accept that Chloe will start the divorce process." Marinette says simply as Margaret, Hugo's equivalent in the country house, comes in with the extra plate and places it right in front of Tim, at Damian's side of the seat.
Felix only teases and adjusts himself in his seat, Damian imitates him without releasing the puppy, ignoring Marinette's gaze.
"Damian."
"Only this time, mother, then he will be with his brothers." He responds, facing his mother, feeling Richard's gaze on him, making him uncomfortable because it's too soft for his taste.
What does he need to does to get those people out of his life forever?

Kwamifluster (”Kwamibuster” divergence)
As one of the many Multimice, this particular Multimouse knew that her job wasn't nearly as important as the three main Multimice. She was there as a distraction and little else, but that was okay with her. They were all Marinette, after all, so it was all of them doing the work in a technical sense.
As the kwami she was riding in flew around, she peeked out of their mouth just slightly to get a look at the action. The kwami were all doing their best to give Kwamibuster a challenge, but also ensure that a select few would be able to get caught without seeming like they meant to do so.
Her kwami must've sensed that she was in a semi-precarious position, as they flew out into the skies to get farther away from Kwamibuster.
Perhaps neither of them had been thinking of the ramifications of that.
Kwamibuster took aim at them, then zapped at the kwami while their back was turned. The kwami stiffened, trying to resist, and Multimouse didn't have time to brace herself.
As the kwami was pulled back, she fell right out, realizing quickly that the roof of the building wasn't even beneath her.
Thus, she plummeted, letting out a startled yelp as the reality of the situation hit. She flailed, trying to think of anything she could to save herself.
She'd seen Chat use his baton to let himself hover for a second or two. Maybe she could use her jump rope in a similar way?
No, no, that still wouldn't break her fall. Think, Multimouse!
Windows were soaring past her sight as she began to fall faster. Starting to panic, she tried to at least calculate how much she wouldn't be hurt from the fall. After all, she was transformed, and she felt like she learned about something like this in physics anyway.
Force equals mass times acceleration, and she weighed basically nothing at the size she was at, right? Right! So, really, even with how fast she was falling - gosh, she was falling so fast - she could end up totally okay!
She still ended up screaming anyway, already regretting that she hadn't done so sooner given that one of the kwami might've heard her had that been the case.
Shutting her eyes, she mentally braced herself for the landing. However, she was then surprised as her body ended up hitting something much softer than expected.
She opened her eyes back up, looking down at the tan surface underneath her.
She hardly had to feel it before she realized; someone had caught her.
Glancing forward, she immediately noticed the leather band and bracelets, followed by the white and blue clothing. She sat up with a start and blushed, meeting the blue-eyed gaze upon her with a, "L-luka?"
Luka's eyebrows rose in reaction to what she'd said. Just as Multimouse realized her mistake, he responded, "Marinette?"
She stiffened. "W-wha—Marinette? Me?" She waved her hands dismissively. "No, you must have the wrong girl! I'm a mouse, you see - Multimouse - and—um—"
She paused, noticing that he looked entirely unconvinced. It was admittedly a bit flustering that he recognized her just by the way she said his name, and though she was sure he knew the basic details of secret identities, she couldn't blame him for blurting out her name like that.
He even looked ready to pretend to accept that answer, but she quickly remembered exactly why she'd picked the mouse miraculous in the first place; part of the point was that she would never be given this miraculous again.
She chewed at her bottom lip. Maybe... it'd be nice, to let someone know her identity just once, even if temporarily.
"...O-okay!" She laughed. "You got me! It's me, Marinette!" She leaned forward, looking at him with a smile. "Thank you so much for saving me, Luka."
He seemed surprised that she gave in, but her smile rubbed off on him. "You're welcome. Are you okay?"
She nodded. "Mhm! And don't worry; my size is just part of the mouse's powers!" As she paused, taking a look around the area, she remembered exactly where they were and asked, "What about you? What are you doing here?"
"I saw what was happening on TV," he replied, "and I was nearby, so I thought I'd come by in case..."
He trailed off, his gaze briefly flicking to his wrist. Marinette couldn't help smiling at how sweet he was, coming even without a miraculous just on the off-chance that Ladybug needed him.
...Speaking of needing, actually—
"Oh no!" She gasped in horror, looking up to the top of the building. "I have to get back up there with the other Multimice!"
Luka followed her gaze, then glanced back down at her. She could tell immediately that they both understood the issue there.
"I could give you a ride?" he offered. "We'll take the elevator and I'll run the rest of the way up."
"Wha—Luka, you don't have to..." She trailed off, realizing that she honestly didn't have much of a choice if she wanted to get back to the roof in time. "Ah... it'd really be okay?"
He smiled, and Multimouse felt the world shift underneath her as he slowly raised his hand up towards his shoulder. She glanced up at him, unsure at first, but he seemed genuinely happy to do this for her.
Thus, she smiled back, hopping onto his shoulder and grabbing onto the fabric of his hoodie for support. "Okay, I'm ready!"
Luka nodded, then headed inside the building. It was a weird experience for Multimouse, going inside again from a similar perspective but with a different feeling.
She noted Luka's rhythmic footsteps, not unlike the soft consistent pounding of a drum. The kwami had given off a certain warmth and kept at a steady height, but she honestly preferred the feeling of Luka's jacket to the feeling of being in a kwami's mouth.
Much preferred, actually.
Luka waited for the elevator doors to open, then slipped inside and let the doors close behind him. As he pressed the button to go to the top floor, Multimouse peered up at him, unable to help admiring him a little. It wasn't every day that she could see Luka so close-up.
Her eyes trailed downwards to the hoodie she was still holding onto, taking in its details as well. Immediately, her eyes lit up.
"Oh, wow!" She lifted some of the fabric into her hands, feeling her inner fashion designer take over. "I've never been able to see fabric so up close before!"
She heard and felt the vibration of Luka's chuckle. She blushed red, quickly laying the fabric back down and smoothing it out. "Sorry, sorry! Um—"
"It's alright, Marinette," he assured. "Your melody's at its best when you're being yourself."
She giggled shyly, fiddling with the jump rope around her waist. "T-thank you, Luka." She glanced up at him. "And... thanks again for taking me up to the roof, even if you don't have to. The other Multimice already have things under control and I'm sure they'll save Ladybug and Chat Noir's kwami with or without me."
Luka hummed thoughtfully. She expected a you're welcome or a polite I don't mind, but instead, he replied, "You're amazing."
Her face turned red. "W-what? Why?" she squeaked.
He glanced at her as best as he could, giving her a warm smile. "Ladybug and Chat have been taken down, but you've already got a plan put together, right?"
"W-well," she began, growing sheepish at the praise, "a little?"
"And you're incredibly brave," he added, as if the previous compliment wasn't already enough to get her heart thumping. "Not a lot of people could handle being that small."
She gave him a pout despite her blush. "Y-yeah, because I'm sure I sounded real brave when I was falling from the top of the building and screaming."
He giggled. "Anyone would've. Not just you."
GOSH, Luka, Multimouse thought, cursing how comforting he was about it. Almost instinctively, she retaliated, "W-what about you?"
He sounded confused all of a sudden. "Me?"
"If Ladybug ever gave you a miraculous, I'm sure you'd be great at it," she complimented smoothly and also as innocently as possible. "And if she hasn't given you one already, she should!"
She felt a strong sense of satisfaction as she noticed a hint of pink on his face, though he averted his gaze quickly as if to hide it. It was embarrassing saying things so bluntly and openly, but given how his blush made her feel, she couldn't stop.
"I mean it, Luka! You're so wise and talented, and it was so amazing seeing you distract Desperada just by playing your guitar! Even when you were akumatized, you—"
She cut herself off, realizing what she was about to say. Lowering her voice, she stared down at her lap and muttered, "You...you were a lot more yourself than most people. It was really impressive. I bet Ladybug thought so too."
For once, he was completely silent. She noticed him reach up, as if to grab the strap of his guitar case, but since it wasn't there, he grasped at nothing and it almost looked like he was clutching his chest where his heart would be.
Finally, he managed to reply, albeit softly, "Thank you, Marinette."
She beamed, quietly wishing to see this side of Luka more in the future. If she'd known that's all it would've taken, she would've done it sooner.
The elevator doors dinged, signaling that they'd reached the top floor. As the doors opened, Luka glanced back to Marinette, his blush having faded. "Are you ready?"
She nodded, grasping the fabric of his clothes as best as she could. "Mhm!"
Luka readied himself, then rushed forward. Multimouse hung on tight as Luka ascended the stairs and ran for the roof. It definitely was no smooth ride on a kwami, but considering the comparison in potential conversation she could have with them, she still preferred Luka.
As they reached the very top of the building, she could still hear the fight going on before Luka even opened the door to the roof. Kwamibuster's taunts and laughter were clearly audible.
Luka placed his hand on the door, then slowly opened it, peeking outside to ensure that neither he nor Multimouse could be seen. Luckily, the fallen billboard definitely hid them well enough.
Multimouse breathed a sigh of relief. "Good. I'm not too late." She paused, realizing what she was implying. "Uh—! Not that I wanted the fight to still be going on, but—I... didn't want to miss it."
Luka just smiled, kneeling down and raising a hand up to her. "Anything else I can do to help?"
She smiled back. "Not unless you want to pretend you're Chat, de-transformed." She waved dismissively to assure him that it was a joke. "Kwamibuster's powers might be dangerous only to superheroes, but after seeing what she almost did to Alec, I don't think it's safe for civilians either."
She went to step down onto his hand, but stopped herself upon seeing the distance between his shoulder and the ground. Considering that she was transformed and she just had to experience a fall from the roof all the way down the building, it was nothing.
Thus, she glanced at Luka with a grateful smile, giving him a wave before jumping down to the ground. She rushed out to get closer to the battle, hearing the creak of the door behind her as Luka slowly closed it.
She got an idea. Raising her hands up to her face, Multimouse called quietly, "Sass!"
The creaking stopped.
Sass glanced in her direction, then skillfully avoided a zap from Kwamibuster as he flew over to her. Since Kwamibuster was still preoccupied with all the other kwami, Sass was able to safely land in front of Multimouse without concern. His mouth was closed, clearly holding another Multimouse, but she paid it no mind.
"I'm so sorry," Multimouse said. "I fell out of one of the kwami's mouths. It was an accident, really, but I'm okay!"
She turned, gesturing proudly to Luka. "He ended up saving me. He's very capable, don't you think?"
The look on Luka's face was almost comical; no, actually comical. His mouth was gaped open and he was looking back and forth between her and Sass with a puzzled expression.
Sass smirked, then nodded his head, looking proud himself.
Covering for why she "happened to" call over Sass out of all the other kwami, Multimouse glanced at Luka while gesturing to Sass. "See? Ladybug told me that this one's the leader of all the other kwami, so if he thinks so too, it must be true!"
Luka stared blankly for a few more seconds, then beamed at her. He waved, though she was half-sure that Sass was waving at him from behind her.
She pretended not to consider it, waving at Luka as well. "Bye, Luka, and thank you!"
Luka's hand rested on the door, his gaze fond as he stared back at her. "Bye, Ma—" He paused, chuckling to himself. "—Multimouse. Thank you too."
The door closed behind him, and Multimouse's gaze lingered on the door for a moment longer.
In that moment, she’d forgotten all about a blond boy with green eyes, and teasingly thought about how, even though the fall from the building was terrifying, the other Multimice would certainly be jealous of her experience before they combined into one again.

Kim Possible AU
In which Marinette is in gymnastics, is childhood friends with Adrien, and somehow became an agent-for-hire when someone accidentally dialed her number to call for help instead of actual, professionally trained agents. That’s right, they called a preteen for help, didn’t have the time to call anyone else, and rolled with it.
Also Adrien is a total goofball with a hairless cat. He still has both his parents, who start out overprotective but gradually loosen the reigns when it becomes clear that his friend will keep him safe.
(The reason I put gymnastics and not cheerleading is because I’m pretty sure that’s an exclusively American thing? Besides, gymnastics kind of makes more sense, skillset-wise.)
Origins
     • Marinette took gymnastics since she was seven, mainly because her clumsiness had been turning into a bit of a problem. (Parents start to get worried when their child’s having genuine physical difficulty in not hurting themselves. They thought gymnastics would help her learn balance, and also allow her to burn off some of her natural childlike energy.) By the age of eleven, Marinette is the best in her class, and is thinking about entering competitions.
     • Adrien is Marinette’s childhood best friend. Along with gymnastics, Marinette also started taking ballet, which is where the two met. Adrien was taking ballet because both his parents had taken it, and also because he thought it would be fun. Since he’d been taking it longer than Marinette, he helped her out in class, and the two have been inseparable ever since.
     • Adrien helped Marinette build a website to help get her name out there when they were eleven. They took videos of her doing a couple moves, and added a contact number. Unfortunately, (or, rather fortunately, actually,) Marinette’s number is very similar to a number for a group of agents who do pretty dangerous, life-saving jobs.
     • Marinette’s first call is from a man requesting for help at a rather big bank in Paris, not far from her house. Being eleven, she doesn’t really understand that this is probably something she should inform the police, rather than handle herself. So, she and Adrien (who she sneaks out of his house) rush over, and save the day themselves.
     • Adrien had videotaped the impressive gymnastics Marinette had pulled off in order to safely get through the security lasers and shut them off. After that video was posted, she started getting calls on a much more regular basis, all from people in need of help. It wasn’t the sort of attention she was looking for when making the website, but she can’t deny she doesn’t love her new job.
The Present
     • By the ages of 16, Marinette and Adrien have travelled all over the world, gaining favors from a bunch of grateful individuals, and are pretty dang famous. They aren’t necessarily given special privileges at school, but if things are urgent, then they’re allowed to leave and makeup missing work online.
     • Adrien is still a model, still plays piano, still takes Chinese, and still does a lot of different sports. On his own, he’s actually pretty famous. However, in this world, it’s pretty much impossible for him to display the ‘perfect, gentlemanly son’ persona when most of the world has seen videos of him screaming at the top of his lungs, running around in his underwear because somehow his pants got pulled off again. Yeah, he’s a straight A student with the classic, rich people training, but he’s still an utter dork and everyone knows it.
     • Marinette, while still taking gymnastics, has lost interest in making it a life career when she already sort of does it already. She’s picked up other interests, one of them being fashion design when Adrien had introduced her to what goes on behind the scenes in his workplace. She’s good at designing stylish, yet very practical outfits, and made uniforms for herself and Adrien for their ‘side jobs’ as agents-for-hire.
     • While Adrien isn’t necessarily incompetent, he’s more of the ‘do first, think later’ type of guy when it comes to their dynamic, which often leaves Marinette to do the planning and problem-solving. At this point, it’s kind of abundantly obvious that, while Adrien is academically more profound, Marinette is vastly more analytical, and probably has a ridiculously high IQ if they ever bothered to check.
     • There isn’t a main villain. Papillion doesn’t exist because Gabriel is completely aware of what his son is doing, still has his darling wife, and has literally no reason to waste his money on illegal activities. He’s a big name in the fashion world, it’s not like he’s looking for world domination or something stupid like that.
     • (I’m sure you’re wondering why the fuck Gabriel Agreste would let his only son go off on dangerous adventures like that on a daily. Well, he didn’t at first, but over time Marinette proved to be a more effective bodyguard than Adrien’s actual bodyguard, so he became more chill. Also, Adrien’s the face of his company, and with all the brave and daring things he’s done alongside Marinette, his popularity ratings are through the roof. Son has fun, is well-taken care of, still performs exceptionally in all his extracurriculars, and does well by the family business? It’s a win-win on all sides.)
     • I would make Lila Shego, except Shego is an actually likeable villain who’s genuinely smart, badass, and fun to watch. So, idk who Shego is, definitely not any of the catty girl rivals Marinette has to put up with, but you can’t have a Kim Possible AU without Shego, so she’s definitely in there.
     • Max is probably Wade. Honestly makes the most sense, but here’s a suggestion: Max and Kim are the ones who contact Marinette when she has a mission. Max is great with numbers, technology, etc, but Kim’s expertise in completely random shit like sports, terrain, and necessary gear needed for specific situations makes him a valuable asset to the team.
     • We all know who Chloé is going to be, I don’t even need to say it but I will anyways. Say hello to our Bonnie, everyone. She was probably in that ballet class with Marinette and Adrien too, years ago.
     • While Tom Dupain is still a baker, in this AU Sabine Cheng went on to pursue her dream as a literal rocket scientist, and succeeded. So, Sabine is basically Dr. James Timothy Possible.
     • Adrien has a hairless cat named Plagg. His father is allergic to fur, and Adrien’s allergic to feathers, so he was sort of limited to pets like fish or lizards, neither of which he really wanted. He found Plagg outside gorging himself on camembert by a dumpster. Having been previously a street cat, Plagg’s growth was stunted, so he stayed pretty small.
     • Luka is obviously Josh Mankey. Marinette and Luka date for a while, but eventually break up on mutual terms due to him not being able to handle some of the dangerous things that pop up in her life often. While he doesn’t panic when things go south, he’s not really physically equipped to protect himself... He’s a musician, not a fighter.
     • Listen, y’all can fight me, Marinette’s longest relationship before finally getting together with Adrien is going to be with Kagami. Kagami handles the dangerous things that go on in Marinette’s life perfectly well, and they date for several months. Eventually, they do break up, but still remain good friends. (This is the period in which Adrien realises he’s jealous of Kagami, and has feelings for Marinette.)
Get Together
     • For those of you who haven’t watched Kim Possible, (and honestly what the hell are you even doing with your life if you haven’t,) Kim and Ron get together at a school dance (prom, but I don’t think prom exists in France,) and share a slow dance with each other. Uhhh so basically think Despair Bear, except Adrien and Marinette are wearing fancy clothes, just got together, and share a kiss in the end.
     • Marinette had recently broken up with Kagami before the dance, and is a little upset over not having a date when she already made herself a dress. Adrien is dealing with his realisation that he likes Marinette romantically, but keeps quiet about it and gives her a shoulder to cry on because she’s hurt, and he’s not going to take advantage of that. He suggests they go to the dance together as friends.
     • Kagami is there, and Adrien confronts her as to why she had broken up with the most amazing girl in Paris. She tells him that she came to the conclusion that, though she loved Marinette with all her heart, Marinette clearly had someone else as her #1. Kagami was sick of having to compete for that position when the other person didn’t even need to try. Adrien is left baffled by this.
     • Marinette overhears this as she’s walking over to ask Adrien for a dance. Kagami looked past Adrien’s shoulder, directly into Marinette’s eyes, and smiled knowingly. Then she walked away, sipping at her drink.
     • Adrien turns around, pretty green eyes latching onto hers, and Marinette immediately understands what Kagami had meant. A slow song comes on, and she asks him to dance. Things fall in place from there.
     • (Of course, after they’ve kissed and become a couple, some dumb villain is going to inevitably crash the party and try to kill Marinette, as usual, but they deal with it like they always do.)
Alright that’s the end! This was an almost completed draft of mine I had, and since I’ve been lacking on content recently, I thought I’d quickly polish this up a bit and post it. I also have some other completed things I could polish up on, but eh, don’t feel like it right now. Enjoy!
(And maybe tell me how you’d imagine your favourite KP episode would go with Marinette and Adrien as the protagonists instead!)

Why Lila could have been one of  the best characters in Miraculous
Yeah what I'm about to write will be controversial to everyone who hates Lila Rossi - That is to say, anyone. But I’ve been working on it for a while, so at least have a small read of it first.
If you’re one of those people that will send me angry comments about why I'm wrong and why I should leave this website, then you should probably skip over this.
Lila Rossi Is one of those characters that are really hated by the Miraculous Fandom at large. After appearing in one episode in season 1, she was generally ignored until season 2 when they realized she existed in the finale, then quickly became the official most hated character after booting Chloe off the pedestal (who was already shaky on it due to the Queen Bee Trilogy making her a hero and the season 2 finale). People have written blog posts about why they hate her, writing threads on Reddit about why they hate Lila and have written so many fix-it fics on ao3 to ‘fix’ the horror that was Chameleon (which doesn't actually fix any part of the story whatsoever and instead unceremoniously gun her down along with the class in some of the fics). The fandom hates her. You hate her. Period.
So why am I writing a post on why I think Lila could have been one of the best characters ever written and is generally opposing the entire fandoms viewpoint?
It’s simple really. I’m not
Just like everyone else here I hate the canon version of Lila Rossi. I hate how in season 3 she just lies so blatantly and stupidly as well, not because she is a liar per se, but because of the fact that when she is present the characters in the story become so moronic to make the story work. I hate the fact that she is evil for literally no reason other than just because, much like how I hated Chloe in season 1. I hated the fact that they were building her up all season and with such bad writing only for her to be tossed aside just so that Astruc could make sure that Chloe was unredeemable in the finale! I hate it and I hated her. I wanted her gone.
But regardless, I still think she had the potential to become one of the best-written characters in the show. ‘Could have’ being the keyword in this regard.
So I'm asking you all to take a trip back in time to before the nightmare that was season 3 and the boring monotony that was season 2 for the most part. Let's go back to the last episode of the season (officially): Volpina
When Volpina actually came out, I actually liked the episode. It was the first time that a character that was introduced that wasn’t a goody-two-shoes like the others (Chloe not counting of course) and seemed to have her own goals and motives. Yeah she was still a liar back then and yeah characters in the show were written as idiots for it to work, but it seemed at the time it more that she was a new girl trying to impress the class, sure in an underhanded way, but still, something that felt normal in a school life. To me, it felt like just a regular cartoon involving a school life, and I was fine with that.
Marinette as well was a blast in the first half, but not because she was being heroic, but because of how obvious it was that she was jealous as hell of Lila being with Adrien. Yeah, Ass-truc says on his twitter its because Marinette hates Liars and she's totally being heroic by ‘heroically’ stalking Adrien and Lila’s Library session, but considering she herself Lies in order to maintain her secret identity, Ass-truc is spitting some bs right there.
Also, that scene where Ladybug ousts Lila as a Liar was in no way heroic at all and could have easily been done in a more quiet and not-as-embarrassing manner. In fact, if you ignore Ass-trucs ridiculous claims that Marinette ONLY went after Lila because she hates Liars, then you have a story about a girl being jealous of another girl for going after the same boy, and then using an underhanded trick (being an freaking superhero!) to essentially prevent the rival from getting close to the boy, all the while justifying it under some ridiculous claim that it was because “she was evil!”. Marinette was an actual prick in this episode and in no way heroic in the first half. She was despicable, and I loved every bit of it.
And that bit where Lila pretty much says ‘fuck you’ to Ladybug was perfect. Yeah, after being made a fool in public than being given an apology for the BS Ladybug caused, even I would act in that way. It didn’t matter that Lila was Lying, she acted like a real person and I loved it.
Yeah, the episode overall wasn’t perfect. The superhero bits were rushed like hell and should have been a two-parter, and the bits about Lila lying were a bit too outlandish for me to take seriously, but I loved the episode overall.
So why did I basically do a recap of an episode?
Because of the contrast in comparison to season 3.
Season 1 Lila was a new girl who Lied just to impress the class and impress a cute supermodel boy, while Lila in season 3 lies for the sake of being manipulative and getting in the way of people’s lives.
But enough about Canon Lila, let's talk about what she could have been...
Assuming Lila would remain through the entirety of season 2, her entire character, instead of simply being focused in writing as just ‘a liar who lies’ as Ass-truc has so ‘generously’ written her she could have instead been written as a foil for Marinette, but also someone who is a darker mirror of her as well. Because to be fair, it would be a much more interesting story compared to the season 3 we have now, and when you think about it they have a lot of similarities when you take all the bias out:
-Marinette and Lila regularly have lied to people for the sake of their goals
-Both Marinette and Lila at their worst have been somewhat creepy. Marinette had a planner to constantly follow Adrien around and sniffed him thinking he was a statue. Lila has also been rather intrusive on Adrien's personal space. Yeah it isn't a 1:1 comparison but the point still stands
-Both have carried unusually petty grudges against people. Marinette hates Lila because she lies (even though the latter had no impact on her as a whole and didn't do anything to her) while Lila hates Marinette because the former called her out once. Both have gone out of their way to get rid of the other simply because both are so petty. Marinette even more so if you believe she goes after Lila because of Adrien.
-Both have had superpowers (at one point or another)
-Both have a dislike for Chloe (Kinda simple I know)
Now that I have shown how similar the two are, lets set up the story for the two.
For Lila, to give her some depth, could have a reason given for her lying beyond the plain and boring idea of being popular. For example:
‘Being the daughter of a mom constantly moving countries for the sake of her job, Lila never stays too long at a school for her to become familiar with people and make new friends. As she observes people, she feels most of them are fake, only putting on masks of kindness, and that no one in the world truly cares about others, least of all her. So to make herself feel better, she creates stories about herself to amaze her classmates. She learns their likes and dislikes and appeals to their desires to that people will like her. To Lila, it doesn't matter, because its all that she knows, and if it makes them happy, who cares if she is lying. And once she goes, she disappears. And no one will remember her...’
It doesn't make her immediately sympathetic, but it doesn’t make her a one-dimensional villain like in canon. To put it simply, in this new canon Lila lies not out of pure villainy, but because it's for her own sake, for her to make friends and feel wanted. Lila in this version is rather nice provided you don't snoop around her secrets and try to out her, she just acts normal. I do imagine her having a hidden personality behind that mask of kindness, but nothing actually rude or villainous behind it.
Also for this revised version, I don’t actually think she would love Adrien (at least at first). I would imagine her trying to woo him simply because it would make her fit in more with everyone else
To Lila, protecting her secret is most important to her, so of course, she would get defensive and protective of it when she encounters...
Marinette, also known as the hero Ladybug
I know that a lot of people on this website find Marinette so precious, but I legitimately cannot stand her. In canon, she has stalked a boy, making a planner to track him down at all times and has abused her powers to interfere with his love life, regardless of what he thinks. She constantly does things without caring for others such as ruining Max’s attempts to get into a gaming tournament just so she can spend time with Adrien, and rather than having to face the consequences of her actions, she fixes the stuff as a hero, apologizes and is immediately rewarded for her piss poor actions. Not to mention the Malediktator episodes where she insults Chloe in the first half, only to have her be nice to Chloe just so she can have backup for the Akuma fight. I hate it.
So how would I fix it? By making Marinette almost as bad as she is. Not so much by being a villain, but by having Marinette be as hypocritical as Lila when it comes to her behavior.
For example, in the Volpina episode, have Marinette be jealous of Lila for being close to Adrien, and then when Lila does the thing regarding the fake Miraculous, Marinette would transform into Ladybug and use her secret identity to humiliate Lila in front of Adrien and keep her away from him. Only for Master Fu and Tikki to IMMEDIATELY CALL HER OUT ON IT!
And this is what the relationship between the two would focus on: Lila and Marinette’s pointless battle for dominance, and as a bonus have a story focus on Marinette’s hypocrisy and her coming to terms with it and overcoming it. Have a moment where Marinette calls her a liar, only for Lila to call her out on it, saying she lies to get away from her friends for whatever reasons shes got (ofc Lila doesn't know Mari is Ladybug). These example moments could be used to develop Marinette as an actual person, without having to pretend she is this innocent person who does nothing wrong and everything right (as Ass-truc so smugly claims). It doesn't mean she can’t hate Liars, but it would make her as human as anyone else in the show.
To make it clear, this wouldn’t make Lila the innocent one in this story. In order to balance the story, Lila would resort to some of her own underhand tactics to either scare Marinette away or force her to back off, such as threatening the friendship between Alya and Marinette or sabotaging peoples trust in Mari.
Basically it would make the rivalry between the two to come off as pointless, which makes sense given their characters at the time and would help with the conclusion of the arc.
If you wanted to add even more drama to it, have Adrien attempt to help Lila to become a better person and not be a compulsive Liar. That way Lila actually realizes that people can actually be kind (instead of being fake like she imagines everyone) and ends up falling in love (for real) with the lovable dork being so kind to her, making the story into an actual love triangle and making the conflict with Marinette and Lila even tenser.
So the question is: how would you end this tale?
With Marinette now being shown to be somewhat hypocritical in her actions and in many ways similar to Lila, the fight between her and Lila is showed to be pointless, there are two ways the tale could end:
-If we wanted to have a tale where both characters are redeemed, the story could be that Marinette and Lila both realize the error of their ways and bury the hatchet after their conflict affects not only themselves but the people around them, including Adrien. For the sake of others and themselves, they stop and eventually forgive each other for their actions.
-Alternatively, if you wanted to have Lila be a villain, the story could be written to involve both of them escalating their actions, but only at the point of no return does Marinette realize what she has become. She renounces her bad actions and promises to be a better person, not only for herself but for the people around her, such as Tikki, her family, and friends. Lila in contrast, cannot turn back due to being alone, and everything falls around her. She ruins herself and ends up moving to a new school.
That would be a good way to end the conflict. Not only would it give Marinette some good character development, but it also helps turn Lila from a generic villain into a moral adversary for the former that challenges Marinette to learn what it means to actually be a nice person and not just nice when preferred.
It is through this type of writing that Lila could have been a better character than the canonical version that we have gotten, whether as a villain or as a complex neutral character.
The Lila Rossi that was given to us in the actual show was nothing short of a disappointment in season 3, and the character was barely utilized to her full potential back in season 1. But I still think that through a bit of good writing, she could have become a character that people would love to hate or hate to love through writing that both develops the show and its main cast. It pains me to see a show with so much potential being squandered for the sake of generic mustache-twirling villainy and one-dimensional character, but at least I can try to show what a show with better writing could possibly do.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk. Feel free to take a bag of salt on the way out.

I really love your fanfiction trope stories so far and I was wondering if you would be able to do 30 and 42 with Marinette and Adrian at a class party or something?
Tumblr media
thirty: “holiday” forty-two: “the big damn kiss”
His shoes didn’t match his outfit.
And when he caught her looking, he wasn’t too embarrassed about it. Adrien smiled widely, beckoning her over to the other side of the room with a wave of his hand—which was easy to see when he was coming close to being the tallest in their class.
“You made it!” he exclaimed, opening his arms to invite her to hug him.
But rather than comply, Marinette stared dubiously at the splattered red across his chest.
“It’s dry,” he told her. “I swear. I made this, like, last week?”
She asked, “You actually made something?”
“I shook the paint in bottle,” Adrien revealed in a whisper. “That has to count for something, right?”
“Good job,” she praised, taking a step forward to give him a quick hug. “You did the costume before you even knew you’d be allowed to come?”
He grinned. “Wishful thinking.”
“Glad you’re here, then,” Marinette said, giving his outfit a pointed glance. “Wouldn’t want your hardwork to go to waste.”
“I knew you’d understand,” Adrien replied, enthusiastic and a clear sign that he’d probably had sugary drinks that he normally wasn’t allowed. “What took you so long to get here?”
To that, she pointed out, “You were here early to help set up.”
“Oh, right,” he recalled. “I taste-tested, but that’s about it.”
The music was loud, most of their class and a few rare students that they didn’t even share lessons with were all there already, and it was Marinette that was one of the last to arrive.
When a halloween party had been brought up, none of them thought that their parents would actually approve. And yet, somehow, close to a week before the actual date, one of them had been given the confirmation.
It was supervised, of course.
She didn’t have a problem with that.
The house was one that she’d been to a few times over the years—either to hang out or study and have dinner—but it had never been quite so full before.
His closeness made it easy to hear him over the music. “You look nice.”
She beamed. “Thanks.”
“For real,” Adrien continued. “You look—great, even with the make-up.”
Marinette looked at him suspiciously. “Are you buttering me up for something?”
“I—no,” he stuttered, reaching up and running a hand through his hair. “I just—I want you to know?”
“Know that I look nice,” she said, dubious. “Enough for you to say it twice.”
His ears were pink. “Yes?”
It was a little endearing to see how he was looking at her wide-eyed, as though expecting her to question him some more. So, instead, she simply grinned and replied, “Thanks.”
“You’re… welcome?” It came out sounding like a question. “I mean, yeah. No problem.”
It got less awkward after this; his shoulders relaxed, his expression was more open, and the amount of eye contact they had was more than they ever would’ve had at school. They barely sat together there; most of the time, the most they chatted was during their breaks.
But instead of roping in any of their friends to join their conversation, it was just the two of them. The sofas were taken, along with the lone armchair, but Marinette was more than happy to sit beside him on the bottom of the stairs.
They’d been told upon arrival that the upstairs was off-limits.
“I’m glad you’re here,” Adrien admitted, taking a sip from his plastic cup. “It’s—this is a bit overwhelming? Not like when we’re all in class, I mean.”
She smiled. “Is that why you’re hiding out over here with me?”
“Wouldn’t call it hiding,” he corrected. “I want to be here with you. You’re—yeah.”
“I’m yeah,” Marinette repeated. “That’s good to hear, thank you.”
“Shut up,” he said through his laughter, lightly jabbing her in the side with his elbow. “You don’t get to tease me, okay? You know how awkward I get with people I don’t know.”
She bumped their shoulders together. “That’s why I’m here.”
“Babysitting me?” Adrien laughed. “I knew I could rely on you.”
“Is it really babysitting when you’re older than me?”
He waved a hand dismissively. “Does that really matter?”
“I don’t know,” she replied. “Why don’t you tell me?”
“I don’t know anything,” was his response to that. “You should know that by now.”
She snickered. “You know more than me sometimes, be honest.”
“Yeah, only sometimes,” Adrien said. “Don’t rely on me when I’m out of my comfort zone. I feel clammy and sweaty from nerves when there’s so many people around me.”
“Are you sweaty now?” she teased.
He batted his eyelashes. “Want to find out?”
Marinette shoved him aside with enough force for his drink to spill out of his cup, splattering on his already ruined shirt, and they both stared at each other wide-eyed for a moment before bursting into laughter.
She was pressing her head into his arm, laughing harder than was needed, but Adrien wasn’t in any better condition.
“How dare you!” he exclaimed.
Instead of answering, Marinette plucked the drink from his hand, putting it down on the floor beside her own. He didn’t protest to it, smiling at her as she did it, and didn’t even try to playfully bat her hand away during.
“Thief,” he accused.
“I’m looking out for you,” she replied. “Can’t have you ruining your outfit any more, right?”
He sniffed. “I look amazing.”
She patted his thigh. “You always do.”
“Are you mocking me right now, Marinette?” he asked, adjusting how he was sitting until their knees were touching as he looked at her. “Because I’ll have you know, I’m actually very fragile.”
“Cute,” she remarked.
He beamed. “Thank you.”
It was easy to get along with him. For as much as he said he was nervous around others that he didn’t know—especially when there was a crowd—it tended not to show on the outside. Adrien recovered from his stutters quickly, and it was usually his body language that made it obvious that he wasn’t completely comfortable.
And the way he tended to look at her with a soft expression, relaxed shoulders, and totally open and friendly with her, she was sure that it was clear that she felt the same.
“You really do look nice, you know,” he whispered.
Marinette grinned. “Are you trying to sweet talk me?”
“That depends,” he started. “Is it—is it working?”
She wetted her lips. “Maybe.”
“Maybe?” he queried. “Is that all I’m getting?”
Her smile reached her eyes. “You got a problem with that?”
He looked like he was trying not to laugh. “Maybe.”
Marinette wanted to shove him again.
“Maybe?” she questioned, leaning closer so she wouldn’t have to talk loudly over the music. “Since when are you bad at decisions?”
“I’ve got commitment issues with decisions,” he replied.
She snorted. “Right.”
“But.” Adrien swallowed. “I might not have commitment issues with other things.”
Slowly, she said, “That’s nice.”
“Like… dating things,” he hastily added on. “Yeah.”
It was the way he said it that made her laugh.
The laugh was a small one, not a loud shriek, but she could still see the way his expression crumple in a moment—
“Want to test that out?” she blurted out, confidence far too much for what she was proposing. “With me, I mean. Yeah.”
He blinked.
“Forget it,” Marinette said without giving him a real chance to reply, face feeling hot as she leaned away from him. She reached up and pushed some hair off of her face. “That was stupid, let’s forget that happened.”
Adrien’s voice was loud as he stuttered out, “I—what if I don’t want to?”
Bewildered, she asked, “You don’t?”
“Not—not really?” he shakily responded. “Unless… unless you do? I’d quite like it, actually. The being with you part—not liking you not wanting it. Yeah.”
She had to smile at that. “Good explanation.”
He winced. “I panicked.”
“A little,” she agreed.
“So,” Adrien started, drawing out the vowel. “What do you think?”
“I think,” Marinette said, reaching out and shyly putting her hand in his. “I think that sounds pretty nice.”
His grin was wide. “Yeah?”
“Yeah,” she confirmed, a little bashful. “Who wouldn’t want to date someone covered in blood? It sounds like my best idea ever.”
“A few people, I think,” Adrien replied, linking their fingers together. “But if you want me to be covered in paint everyday? I’d be down for that.”
She laughed. “You’re a dork.”
“Maybe,” he said, amusement clear in his voice. “But isn’t that why you like me?”
“Maybe,” she teased right back.
He threw his head back and laughed.
And when he looked at her with that soft expression again, Marinette was the one to lean forward and press her lips to his.

Reine Ruse Part 4
Hello all! I hope you enjoy the next installment of this au. This chapter was hard to write and ended up going in a somewhat different direction than I had planned. (Tikki kind of took over.)
There were a lot of difficult topics to deal with in this chapter about bullying and emotional harm, and I can only hope that I managed to do them justice. Please let me know if you think there's anything I could improve.
I finished this over my lunch hour, so it's not been edited and I'm sorry for any errors you might find!
Thank you all again so much for reading! You're amazing and I hope you have a wonderful day!
As always, just ask if you’d like to be tagged in the future, and please remind me if I forgot you, computers are hard sometimes!
Plagg
“Can you believe this Plagg?” Adrien bit out as he grabbed several tissues to staunch the bloody nose that was still oozing despite the long run across the Parisian rooftops he’d had to get back from the Grand Paris Hotel. “I can’t believe that Chloe, of all people, would equate me with those people! She just doesn’t understand!” Pausing in his tirade, Adrien looked around, eyes finally landing on Plagg who was floating, deathly still and with slitted eyes, in the place Adrien had detransformed.
For his part, Plagg was furious. He couldn’t believe he’d let matters escalate this far, but he honestly hadn’t been aware that his kitten’s mindset had gotten this warped. He knew the kid wasn’t the best at decoding social cues and he’d felt sorry for the boy alone in such a cold home so, yeah, he’d given the kid a couple more passes for behavior than he might have given another chosen. He might not have been the best Black Cat he’d ever had, but he wasn’t the type to go rogue and try to destroy the world, and he didn’t hurt Plagg -- all things considered, he’d had much worse wielders in the past and the kid just seemed so lonely … He’d thought that after the whole debacle with the akuma that flooded Paris that things had more or less resolved themselves and, to be honest, he’d never paid much attention to his kitten’s banter with Tikki’s bug. If he’d only paid more attention… Shit, this really wasn’t his strong suit. Tikki was much better at getting through to people. He knew screaming at Adrien would just make him shut down… he needed to be calm, which would be hard.
“Did you ever consider,” Plagg offered in a level voice, “that she might have been right?”
If things hadn’t been so serious, Plagg might have cackled at the poleaxed look on Adrien’s face. “ What?! ”
“Kid, just listen to me,” Plagg sighed. “Let’s go with a hypothetical situation here. Say you were partnered with someone while modeling, and you only worked with that person. You saw that person as your best friend, and you had to rely on them in order for anything to work out at your job. You really like this other person outside of work, but you can’t say anything about it because you don’t want people who know about your job to harass them. You’ve told your partner this, more than once, but they still insist on telling people that the two of you are dating or that you’ll come around to their charms eventually. They derail photoshoots and events by flirting, and you have to do most, if not all, of the work in your partnership. You’re just trying to keep your head down and get your work done, but your partner gets more and more pushy until it’s gotten to the point where they attempt to physically chase and restrain you to demand a date. Adrien, kid, you’re a great black cat, but, please tell me that you can see that that’s not a healthy relationship.” Plagg maintained eye contact with his kitten, doing his best to exude the sort of calm and understanding presence that came so naturally to Tikki. Please, please listen to me. At the rate things were going, if Adrien didn’t stop what he was doing soon, he’d throw off the balance too far and Plagg would need to take the miraculous back. And Plagg knew, better than anyone, how much Adrien needed chat Noir. Please, kid.
Adrien looked down at his hands. They sat there for what felt like ages in silence as Adrien thought and Plagg watched over his kitten. He’d never admit it, but the ancient god felt almost faint with relief when Adrien looked back up at him, tears streaming down his cheeks and face twisted into an expression of horror. “What have I done, Plagg?”
Marinette
Any sense of safety that she’d felt evaporated the second she swung off of Chloe’s balcony and into the night. Marinette took the most roundabout way she could think of home, glancing over her shoulder almost more often than she looked ahead and scanning the surrounding rooftops with wide-blown eyes. When she finally detransformed and collapsed on her chaise, she breathed a sigh of relief. She could feel Tikki huddled in the space where her neck met her shoulder as she took several deep, bracing breaths. Once she felt calm and safe again, she looked up at her room and at the dozens of posters and pictures of Adrien crowded across its walls. She’d considered taking them down for a few weeks now, as Adrien’s inaction against Lila had dampened her crush. But now… She looked down at Tikki and sighed. “This was never healthy, was it?”
Tikki met her eyes with the infinite compassion Marinette was still baffled that she could always count on and hardly felt she deserved and gently shook her head.
“I…” Marinette paused and firmed her jaw. “No. I’m not going to be like that anymore. I’m not going to be like that ever again.” And as the stars above Paris shone down on a city that slept, its heroine moved methodically about her room, taking down posters and schedules and computer backgrounds. When she finished, it looked… empty, but a healthy kind of empty full of promise and possibility. She could already think of so many ways to fill the space she’d freed… but that would be a task for tomorrow.
She felt her eyelids drooping as she crawled into bed and flung one arm over her face. What had happened that night felt so surreal. Then again, the past several weeks had felt entirely like a waking dream or nightmare. Since Hawkmoth had appeared and she’d become Ladybug for the first time, she’d had to up-end her worldview completely, but she’d done that, she’d gotten used to the way things had become. Since Lila arrived back at school everything had been turned on its head once again and Marinette could hardly tell which way was up and which way was down anymore. Alya hadn’t spoken to her kindly in days, her partner was becoming a terrifying stranger, and the only place she felt safe was with Chloe Bourgeois, of all people. She still wasn’t sure why she’d gone to Chloe’s balcony that first night or why she kept returning. Chloe had made her life miserable for years, had beaten down her self-confidence to such an extent that she’d had no one before Alya and had tried to cut her down at every turn for as long as she could remember. Those feelings of anger and despair hadn’t just disappeared -- but things were so complicated now… She didn’t know what she felt about Chloe anymore. Well, that wasn’t necessarily something that she had to sort out immediately either. She’d take this one day at a time, and, if Chloe kept improving and really turned into someone she could truly rely on, well, then she’d think about what it would mean to forgive her.
She’d cross that bridge when she got there.
Tikki
Tikki gazed down at her sleeping chosen. The determined frown she’d worn while removing all traces of her obsessive crush from her room had faded as she fell asleep. She couldn’t help the proud feeling that welled up in her when Marinette had confronted her own flaws when faced with the more glaring example of her partner’s. She would have been totally within her rights to have let the crying jag that passed at Chloe’s continue longer than she had, but she’d demonstrated true Ladybug strength yet again and learned from another awful situation what she could. Still, the extent to which Plagg’s kitten had damaged her trust in him was worrying -- on both sides of the mask.
Tikki heard a whimper and glanced down to see her chosen’s face twisted in a nightmare. “Chat, no… why?” she whispered brokenly. Tikki’s face hardened. That was it -- this had gone too far. She was going to Fu.
Master Fu
Wang Fu suddenly shot awake. He looked at the window beside his bed -- it was still the middle of the night. Why? He felt an urgent pull inside his chest, below his breastbone. He was being summoned? What had happened? He quickly turned toward the miracle box and was met with the sight of the kwami of creation staring solemnly at him. He could read in the downturn of her eyes that she was angry -- angrier than he’d ever personally seen her.
“Tikki? What is wrong? Why have you come here without your chosen?”
“The boy you picked to wield the black cat miraculous is this close to completely breaking the balance between Plagg and I’s wielders. He has betrayed my chosen on both sides of the mask and just tonight he hunted her across the city in what appeared to be an attempt to physically force her to reciprocate his feelings. You have allowed him to continue in a dangerous mindset unchecked for too long.”
“But --”
“I know the reasons that you chose him for the ring, and, if he had ever been properly disciplined, I might be able to concede that you made the right decision. You chose a wielder that needed to learn in order to work effectively and then refused to teach him.”
“But it would be dangerous to release another miraculous permanently, especially with the new peacock villain. I cannot justify that risk!”
The air in the room stilled and Fu found it harder to breathe. Tikki’s eyes narrowed and she began to glow as she loosed some of her aura into the space. “Cannot justify the risk?” her voice echoed in a way that did not fit her size. “What about the risk to my chosen? You may be the guardian of the miracle box, but you forget that you were never formally trained. You forget what your mistakes have already cost. You are not infallible. You are not a god. And that was not a request.”
Fu trembled before her. “V… very well. I shall choose --”
“I shall choose. Forgive me if I have lost faith in your judgment.” The light around Tikki flashed and the fox necklace appeared in front of her. She grasped the chain in her paws and restrained her power.
“Wayzz?” Tikki acknowledged the turtle kwami that had been waiting, frozen, in a corner of the room for the first time. “Make sure he actually thinks about this mistake.” She met Fu’s eyes one last time, conveying a sense of disappointment and disapproval that almost brought him to his knees, and then she flew out the window and into the night.
Chloe
Chloe Bourgeois couldn’t sleep. Her confrontation with Chat Noir played over and over again in her head. Her nails dug crescents into her palms as she thought about the proprietary way that the cat had talked about Ladybug and the fear in the heroine’s eyes as she’d tumbled into Chloe’s apartment and run to hide. An uncomfortable pang of guilt ran through her as she thought of her friendship with Sabrina before she’d abandoned her for Lila and her previous self-serving idolatry of Ladybug. No. There was no use feeling guilty for her past mistakes. She would apologize, and then she would not make them again.
She only wished that she had the power to make her apology to Ladybug mean something more, that she could actually protect her, rather than only being there to pick up the pieces that Hawkmoth or Chat Noir had broken. She started as she heard a soft knock on the glass pane of the balcony door. Rising from her bed, she padded over to see Ladybug’s kwami waiting outside her window with a stormy expression, holding a familiar looking necklace. Chloe opened the door as quickly as she was able and gestured the kwami inside.
“What’s wrong?” She questioned urgently. If Ladybug’s kwami was here without her, what could have happened? If that cat had gotten her akumatized …
“Many things,” Tikki replied, “but nothing urgent. There is not an attack, and Ladybug is safe.”
“Then why --?”
“She is safe for now.” Tikki cut in. “You’ve seen that her partner has demonstrated that he is almost as present a danger to her as Hawkmoth emotionally. She needs help that she can trust, someone to stand by her against all threats no matter how hard or dangerous things become.” She stared directly at Chloe. There was a pressure behind her gaze that was almost physical, and Chloe fought to not flinch. “Do you think you could do that?”
It took Chloe a moment to register the question. Did she? And then a vision of Ladybug’s eyes, still full of tears, flashed inside her mind. She met Tikki’s gaze evenly. “Yes.”
For a moment, all was silent as Tikki stared into her soul. Chloe could only hope that the tiny god found something worthwhile there. Eventually, Tikki nodded.
“Very well then.” She held up the necklace in her paws. “Chloe Bourgeois, this is the miraculous of the fox. It grants the power of illusions. You will use it to be Ladybug’s right hand, her shield, her friend, and her support. You will reveal your identity to no one. If at any point you forsake your duty to her, I will reclaim the miraculous and ensure that you never forget your mistake. Do you understand?”
Chloe’s heart was beating through her chest. “Yes.”
Tikki
Tikki landed on the small pillow that Marinette kept beside her bed for her use. She looked at her charge once more. She only hoped that she’d made the right decision. The pressure and the events of the day caught up to her and she had to restrain a somewhat hysterical giggle. Dear balance, she’d been acting like Plagg. It just showed that, although she might be the “good” side of the universe’s balance, no one was allowed to mess with her family. She nestled down underneath her small blanket.
“Don’t worry Marinette,” she mumbled sleepily, “things will turn out all right.” Her eyes drifted closed, and she let herself sink into a restful sleep, heartened by the fact that there was now someone she could count on to protect her chosen when she could not.

Stargazing- Lukadrien June Day 28
I actually liked this one. This was inspired by a Leverage episode, the one where the mark believed in aliens so much he would give up the thing he stole from the victim to be seen as the first person to have contact with aliens. Parker and Hardison were trying to decide on a date during the job and when the original plans got messed up, Hardison did what Luka does for Adrien here. Work starts tomorrow so we’ll see if I can post tomorrow. I’d like to do something either tomorrow or on the 30th to finish @lukadrien-june off. We’ll see, for now, enjoy. Stargazing
“You’ve never been stargazing before?”
Adrien shook his head. He knew it always surprised people when he talked about simple thing he never did.
“Other than the fact that I’ve been in the house most of my life and trying to drag Chloe to do anything that wasn’t shopping was impossible, Paris has too many city lights to see the stars that well. As much as I love watching the Eiffel Tower just glow in the night, I guess it would be cool to kinda just lay on your back and star up at the stars.”
“Would you like to go stargazing?” Luka asked.
The blond nodded slowly. “I would. One day.”
“What about this weekend?” Adrien raised an eyebrow at his boyfriend. “Well mom actually inherited this country coatage. We usually spend our longer breaks there when we were younger but since we grew up and have more friends, we don’t go as often. If you could convince Nino to lie for you, unless you really think your dad will say yes, we could go this weekend.”
“Really? You’d do that for me?”
Luka couldn’t help but feel a bit sad that Adrien felt like he needed to ask that. Even with his amazing friends and so far, well ended relationships he had, Adrien didn’t realise just how much some people would go to make him smile, the same he’d do for others.
“Of course, if you want to go.”
“Well, I might be able to slip it into the conversation with my father.” Adrien said, before kissing Luka, “Thank you for asking me this.”
“Not a problem. Hey, maybe I can make you s’mores while we’re there.”
“Marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers. I can hear Nathalie crying at my ruined diet already. I can’t wait.”
Luka laughed before kissing Adrien, looking forward to the weekend even more.
                                                   _______________
“Hey mom, can I ask you for a favour?” Luka asked as he came up to his mother moving like the storm she was in the kitchen.
“Yes, mon trésor?” Luka smiled at himself. He loved it when his mother called him and Juleka that. Most be the sea loving part of them.
“I wanted to take Adrien out to the coatage. He’s never stargazed before and I wanted to show him the stars. Can I?”
“You and your boyfriend out by yourself in the country? I know I won’t be getting any early grandchildren from either you or your sister but what makes you think I’ll do that?”
“Because you love Adrien?”
His mother gave him a small glare, but he was right. Anarka treated her children’s significant others like her own children and she took a special shining to Adrien.
“Besides, when have we ever given you trouble?” the extreme lax on rules in their house taught the siblings to prove that they deserved that trust. “Please?”
Anarka sighed before pointing the spoon in her hand at him. “The same rules that apply whenever I leave the boathouse to you kids apply there. If anything goes wrong, call me. I don’t care if it’s minor. Adrien’s father could make everyone life hell if we hurt his kid. Deal?”
“Deal. Thank you, mom.”
“Yes, yes. When are you going?”
“This weekend. We can leave Friday and be back Sunday.”
“Hmm, now I’m wondering if I should even let you go. Apparently, there’s a storm coming in during the weekend. I’d rather you both here that all the way out there.”
Not news he was really hoping to hear. Since he got the idea in his head about taking Adrien out stargazing, he didn’t want to go back on his word.
“How about if it looks fine on Thursday we can go? If not, Adrien can spend the night?”
“And somehow you win in both scenarios. Fine, that’s fine. But Thursday got it? If it’s bad, better find out an alternative.”
He nodded when a sudden thought came to his mind. “Can I buy something with expedited shipping?”
“Now what do you have planned?”
“Just getting all my bases covered. I’ll pay you back for the shipping.”
“That’s fine. I hope you know what you’re doing.”
“I do, promise.” With that, he went back to his room, mind creating a back up plan. He would take Adrien stargazing if it was the last thing he did.
                                             ______________
It seemed like things would work out at the start. Adrien did have to lie to his dad but he and Nino came up with the best cover story.
“His family is taking him and Alya out of town, so as far as my dad knows, I’m with them, along with Marinette. The usual gang that he somewhat trusts. I swear, when I don’t fear he won’t be totally over protective, I’ll introduce you to him.”
Luka had put a hand on Adrien’s, calming him. “I don’t mind him not knowing who I am right now. All that matters is come Friday evening, we’ll be laying on the hammock and I’ll be teaching you all the constellations you only read about.”
His back up plan had arrived but he still hoped he wouldn’t need it, but by Wednesday, the usual blue sky was dotted with dark clouds, the sky becoming even more clouded as the day went on. Nino’s parents cancelled their trip and Adrien changed the lie to Nino inviting him for a sleepover, but Luka still hoped. However, by Thursday morning, heavy wind was also added to the increasing dark clouds.
“Ow!” Luka yelped as a sudden dip in the waves caused the houseboat to move and him to crash into the wall. Like a cat, Adrien was perfectly fine as he led them to Luka’s room, even though Luka had been living on the houseboat since he was a kid.
“Are you sure we’ll be ok here?” Adrien asked as he put his bag on Luka’s bed. He did notice a lot of things had hooks and were attached to the wall.
“Yeah. If it’s ever really bad, Chloe’s dad issues to leave premises to anyone who lives on boats and houses them in Le Grande Paris until it’s safe to be back here again. Chloe usually never looks happy but we usually stay here unless it’s really bad. I’m sorry we couldn’t go to the coatage like we planned.”
Adrien was obviously upset but he hid it with a smile. “It’s fine.”
“Adrien.”
“Well, I’ll admit, I was really hoping we could go but safety is first.”
Now that he got Adrien to admit how he was feeling, he hoped his backup plan would work.
“Close your eyes.” He ordered.
“Why?” Adrien asked looking confused.
“Please?”
Still frowning, Adrien did what his boyfriend asked and closed his eyes. After quickly making sure Adrien had his eyes closed, he pulled out the star projector from his drawer under his bed and turned the lights off, making sure the windows were covered. He turned it on and watched his room become the inside of a nebula.
“Ok, open your eyes.”
He watched Adrien’s eyes fluttered open, the green eyes adjusting and widening at the sight.
“Oh Luka.” He said, breathlessly. “It’s beautiful.”
“So, you like it?”
“I love it.” His favourite smile of Adrien’s grew on the model’s face as he looked around the room. “How did you plan this?”
“My mom mentioned the storm and I wanted to keep my promise to take you stargazing. I know it’s not as great as the real thing.”
Adrien shook his head, “It’s prefect. I love this.” He took Luka’s face in his hands and kissed him slow and deep. When he pulled back, he whispered, “Thank you.”
Luka gave him a smile and pressed another kiss to his lips before he pulled Adrien into his chest to cuddle as they watched stars fly across the walls and ceilings. It might not have been the real thing, but Luka had to agree. It was perfect.

Longest Night (21) Confessing
Marinette had thought Highschool had been hard. Right now, in this moment, she'd give anything to go back to those petty arguments and gossip fueled drama. But she couldn't. Instead, she and Adrien were trapped here, being punished, humiliated, tortured, for being heroes, all broadcasted for the world to see. At least she and her kitty were in this together. For now. Whump!Fic
Ao3 | FF.net
This chapter has some mentions of Episode ‘Feast’.
“I’ve come to apologize. My name is Wang Fu…and I am the one that bestowed the Miraculous on your children.”
The jolly atmosphere of the room turned to ice in a second, as everyone sat too stunned to say a word.
Sabine stood suddenly, her chair clattering on the floor behind her. “You—You did this?”
He nodded solemnly. “Words…cannot express how sorry I am, for what has happened.”
Sabine slammed her fist down on the table. “They were children! They still are children!” All the fake smiles she had been holding onto all day fluttered away, and all that was left was a seething, grieving mother. “How could you think that was a good idea!?”
They waited for his response.
He waited for someone else to yell at him.
When silence passed for far too long, Master Fu finally confessed, “Hawkmoth had to be stopped. I tried to stop him on my own…but I’m far too old for that.”  He sighed, gathering his thoughts. “I’m sure, whatever excuse I will say won’t feel like enough. But…I ask you to please, understand where I came from.” He swallowed. “I was just a few years younger than them when I was picked to be a guardian. Children…they bond with the Miraculous far easier than adults. And they can drop their lives much easier than an adult. You’ve seen it. Marinette’s absence from a class, Adrien being in a different place than he’s expected to be. They get a slap on the wrist, but if they were adults with jobs? Fired, easily. Being a superhero is a full time job, one that you can’t plan around. One that you can’t use as an excuse.”
Sabine began to relax her tense shoulders, not liking what he was saying, but still understanding it logically.
“But why them?” Tom whispered. “What did our little girl do to deserve this?”
“I gave them a test. Who would be most willing to drop everything in a given moment to do the right thing? And they both passed. And most importantly, they had to be compatible. Soulmates even.”
“They…they’re soulmates?” Sabine whispered.
“Two halves of the same whole. They were made to wield their Miraculous stones. Once, Marinette picked Adrien to be the wielder of the Snake Miraculous, but it wasn’t the right stone for him. They didn’t achieve victory until he passed on the snake to someone else, and returned to being Chat Noir.”
The assembled considered this with some thought.
“Anyone could have picked up those Miraculous. But no one could have gotten this far. And…their only job was to stop Hawkmoth. Because of who they are, they took the extra initiative to stop regular criminals too.” Master Fu raised his head and looked levelly at each of the parents. “Your children are exceptional, I recognized it right away and rewarded them for it. I never wanted…never expected—“ He choked.
Sabine’s anger disappeared as she watched this old man collapse into tears.
“I mentored them. I trained Marinette to be a guardian, to be the greatest hero in the whole world…but I never expected this…this woman to…”
The room was silent, as everyone mulled over his words.
Sabine was still angry, but seeing this man so filled with regret…it eased her slightly. She was so angry and hopeless all week long, she had basically burnt out.
With a short sigh, she righted her chair. “I need a moment,” she declared, walking out of the room.
Tom didn’t move. He was in shock. And he wasn’t an angry man, so there wasn’t anything to say. ‘How could you?’ and ‘You’re insane!’ Came to the tip of his tongue, but he didn’t end up voicing those thoughts. Because Fu’s explanation made sense, and Tom was finding it increasingly difficult to blame the old man.
“This is Hawkmoth’s fault.” He finally said, his voice wavering. “If he hadn’t sent out that first akuma, no one would have been picked as Ladybug or Chat Noir. No one would be in this place.”
“I agree.” Said Gabriel, who had been eerily quiet this whole time. “If Hawkmoth wasn’t…such a monster. This never would have happened.”
The Mayor and Nadja both clenched their fists in anticipation. Gabriel was not known for his mercy, and for endangering his son, surely this man would be ripped to shreds.
But his wrath never came. Instead, he just sat at the head of the table, staring at his plate in thought.
“And another thing!” Sabine shouted, coming back into the room. “What about the other Miraculous users!? Are they children too?! Do you plan to take all these kids away from their parents!?”
“Most of the other users identities, I don’t even know. Marinette was entrusted with the decisions of bestowing the Miraculous. She chose people she trusted and people she could work with. I…would assume most of them are people her age.”
Everyone turned and looked at Alya and Chloe.
“My Chloe is Queen Bee.” Stated the Mayor, “so does that mean…?”
Alya glanced at Master Fu, trying to gauge what she was supposed to do.
He gave her a solemn nod.
She sighed, “Yeah…I’m Rena Rouge.”
At the announcement, Trixx flew out of his hiding spot. “Hiya! This looks super yummy and I’m starving!” He swooped up a brioche bun and started to tear into it.
“I apologize, Alya, my intention in coming was not to reveal your identity.”
“It’s alright Master. I…I kinda figured since Marinette was outed, it wouldn’t be too hard to figure me out.”
“Then what was your intention of coming here, Mr. Fu?” Asked Sabine with an edge to the question.
“Well, most importantly…to apologize. And secondly, to assure you I’m trying to make it right. I…have a plan. It’s risky, but…it’s a plan.”
“Well, let’s hear it!” Jagged stated, kicking his feet up on the table. “Are you going to give us Miraculous? Because I think I’d be amazing at the Snake. Or is there an alligator? Or maybe a lion?”
Master Fu shook his head. “I’m not comfortable with giving out any more Miraculous. I enlisted Rena Rouge, Carapace, and Queen Bee the moment I saw the broadcast. But it is far too dangerous to let anyone else have that kind of power. Especially right now, when the Ladybug Miraculous is dormant, and unable to use cure.”
“Then what do you suppose we do?” Sabine asked. “We barely know what country they’re in.”
Master Fu inhaled deeply, preparing the for the reaction he was about to receive. “It would require…Hawkmoth’s assistance. We would need to lure him out, and then I could bribe him with the Miraculous—“
“You are insane!” Sabine shouted. “How dare you! My daughter has been working tirelessly for years trying to keep the Miraculous out of Hawkmoth’s hands! And you’d give them away?! Just like that?!”
The old man tensed. “I’m open for other suggestions! There’s no Miraculous that can help with this! The Horse can create portals, but only if he knows where it’s supposed to go! The Rabbit can travel back in time and stop this from happening, but I don’t even have that one right now! All the other Miraculous would require us to actually know where they are! I have nothing else!”
“What did you expect Hawkmoth to do?” Gabriel asked, his voice completely neutral.
“How are you so calm about this, Gabriel!? Aren’t you upset?! This man endangered your son!”
“No.” Gabriel replied calmly. “Hawkmoth endangered my son. Adrien is as close to perfect as man can get. Academically brilliant, an athletic champion, accomplished in everything he does. Why wouldn’t he be picked to be Chat Noir?”
Sabine just stared at him. Rightfully unable to comprehend the insanity that just came from his mouth.
“I ask again, Mr. Fu. What were you expecting from Hawkmoth?”
Again, the old man clenched his fists. “The champions created by Hawkmoth are extremely powerful, especially the more volatile the emotions of the victim. I went through the Ladyblog, looking back at the akumatized villains and their traits. He turned Alya Cesaire an akuma named Lady Wifi, who was able to travel through wifi signals, and pause people in real time. If we can convince Hawkmoth to get on our side, we can have him recreate her. She would be able to travel through the broadcast, and find out where they are.”
“Absolutely!” Alya shouted. “I’d do it in a heartbeat! I’m totally on board with this plan!”
“Can you pause bullets?” Asked Gabriel, with a stony voice.
“W-what?”
“If there were several men with guns shooting at you in a ten foot room, could you pause them fast enough that you wouldn’t get shot?”
Alya swallowed, but didn’t answer.
“And if they simply turned off the router, would you be able to find an escape? Knowing we know nothing about the building they’re in?”
She grimaced. He made a very good point. “We have to try! We have to risk it! What else can we do!?”
Gabriel rested his elbows on the table, folding his hands in front of his face. “If I’m right, Hawkmoth is looking for them anyways. And once he finds them, he’s going to akumatize them.”
“How can you be so sure?” Asked Nadja. “He hasn’t made a single akuma since the capture.”
“He’s tried.” Clarified Chloe. “Both me and Ces—er, Alya have both almost been akumatized. I think Nino too. But Hawkmoth removed it once we told him no.”
“Still…” wondered Nadja, “there’s a lot of people upset right now. It’s amazing that he hasn’t had someone akumatized just…rampaging and looking through abandoned places.”
“Salo still has the Miraculous. I’ve had my people scouring the internet and blackmarket for any trace of them. If she does try to sell them, I will snatch them up. But until then, we have to assume that the Miraculous are wherever Marinette and Adrien are. And akumatizing them would be the easiest way to get them.”
“So, we have two objectives,” stated Alya, pulling out her notebook. “One, get Hawkmoth on our side. And two, find out an approximate location of Adrien and Marinette. And an akuma could help us accomplish that second one.” She scribbled some notes down, and then crossed them out. “We still can’t do this!”
“Alya, it’s all we have.” Said Master Fu.
“No it’s not!” She turned to the Mayor. “Mr. Mayor, you said you and the Minister of Interior are entering a plea deal with Edward Savauge, right? Does that mean a lighter sentence if he tells us where they are?”
The Mayor looked away, his cheeks becoming more and more red. “Well, I’m not sure exactly…the Minister is the one that’s in charge of that.”
Chloe slapped her hand against the table. “Are you going to save my Adrikins or not?!”
“Chloe dear, you don’t understand…there’s a lot of politics involved…”
“Politics.” Jagged scoffed. “Why bring politics into this? You know what really makes people nervous? Attention. We throw the biggest most rocking concert ever, and we really turn up the heat on these goons!”
“If these people didn’t want attention, they wouldn’t be broadcasting everything!”
“They aren’t.” Gabriel clarified. “These people haven’t said their names on camera. They wear big sunglasses so they can’t be completely ID’d. The only reason we have an idea of who Salo is, is because she let it slip that she was involved with Savauge.”
“The detective gave her name too.” Said Tom.
“Detective?” Asked the Mayor.
Gabriel shot Tom a warning look.
“I mean…yeah. There was a detective…don’t really know who he was though…” He swallowed.
The Mayor wiped his forehead with his napkin. “You’ll have to excuse me. I’m not really used to situations like these. The appearance of superheroes was bizarre enough, but such a public kidnapping is so…so nerve wracking. I’m trying my best, I promise.”
“But politics.” Scoffed Chloe. “What do politics even have to do with anything? Doesn’t everyone want Ladybug and Chat Noir to come back? Shouldn’t that be something to unite over?”
“You’d be surprised.” Said Alya with a shrug. “You’d think that everyone would be grateful for them and all they do…but theres a lot of people who think the akumas and Hawkmoth are just part of Ladybug’s plan.”
“Wait so…like conspiracy theorists?” Asked Jagged. “They shouldn’t count!”
“Exactly. They shouldn’t. But they are very loud and dangerous. Like anti-vaxxers. Their stance is spreading. I see it all the time in the forums on the blog. And there’s a rumor going around that this broadcast is being staged too.”
Sabine gasped and covered her mouth. “How could they think that?”
Alya shrugged. “I first heard about it because Lila was telling it to some of our classmates. Sometimes, it’s nicer to think that someone couldn’t actually be this awful. They’re in denial.”
The Mayor stood. “Miss Sabine, thank you for the wonderful meal. I’m afraid I must be getting back to the office.”
“Andre.” Gabriel stood as well, his voice an octave deeper. “Don’t breathe a word of what’s been spoken to anyone. Do you understand me? Not a word.”
“Crystal clear, Mr. Agreste.”
“That goes for everyone. Mr. Fu and Rena Rouge’s identities must remain a secret. As well as all talk of Hawkmoth. Forget everything that you heard at this table.”
“Of course, Mr. Agreste.” Nadja agreed, getting her stuff together. “I should be going too. I will send an email to your secretary with the questions for the interview. Feel free to add or nix any you’d like.” She stooped and pressed a kiss to Sabine’s cheek. “Goodbye dear, let me know if I can do anything for you.”
“Thank you Nadja. This was already a great help.”
She shook Tom and Gabriel’s hand, and then finally Master Fu’s. “It was nice meeting you. Er—actually, I have no idea who you are and I’ve never seen you before in my life.” She shot a thumbs up back at Gabriel, before leaving the room.
The Mayor was quick to follow, only offering an awkward wave as he left.
“Well, that wasn’t suspicious at all.” Said Jagged, putting a toothpick in his mouth.
Master Fu was frowning, deep in thought, before Gabriel cleared his throat. “Mr. Fu, may I talk to you in my office? Alone?”
Master Fu cringed, but knew it was inevitable. “Yes, I suppose that would be fine.”
“You don’t mind if I hang around a while, do you Mr. Agreste? Alya and I are going to plan that concert.”
“Not at all, Jagged. Please make yourself at home.” And with that, he and Master Fu left the room.
As they crossed the lobby in silence, Fu couldn’t help but feel like a child again. He was 150 years older than this man, but he felt like a young guardian in training, about to be scolded by his master.
“It was foolish of you to reveal your identity like that, in front of those people.” Gabriel scolded once the door closed to the office, his back turned.
Master Fu nodded solemnly. “That may be. But I had to get you to listen. This is a very dangerous time for you and Marinette’s parents. You wouldn’t trust a stranger.”
Gabriel sighed. “I understand that. But I knew who you were the moment I saw you.”
Master Fu frowned at that, still standing just in front of the door of the office. “A hunch?”
“No…from Feast.”
Fu’s eyes widened, with growing horror in his stomach. “Then, I suppose it really was foolish for me to reveal myself.” He backed up into the door. “I…I must be on my way.”
“I’m not finished with you yet.” Gabriel said with a bite. “You have to understand the position I’m in.”
Fu was immensely happy that he purposefully left the Miracle Box in the care of Marianne for the evening. He knew he was taking a risk when he came here and decided to reveal himself to them. At least he had that much forethought. “What position? I will not ease the burden of guilt you have put on your own shoulders.”
“Nor do I expect you to. Please, come away from there. Have a seat.”
Hesitantly, Fu did as the man instructed, and sat in a chair in front of his desk.
“You wanted to get in contact with Hawkmoth, correct? You wanted to persuade him to get on your side.”
“Yes, I was just…not expecting to deal with him without preparation.”
“I’m not going to hurt you.” Gabriel said with finality. “I…need your help.”
“I understand,” said Fu with a nod. “But I can only offer my assistance, not any more Miraculous. I already said this.”
“And that is something I understand as well.” Gabriel sighed. “I…I will worry about Adrien and Marinette. My plan is to akumatize them the moment I can figure out where they are. Alya and Nino suspect they’re in Germany, so I plan to take my leave and see if I can sense them.”
“I see.”
Gabriel rested his elbows on the desk, steepling his fingers. “Many years ago, when Adrien was still a boy, my wife and I took a trip to Tibet.”
Master Fu was startled by this abrupt change in topic, but didn’t comment.
“There was a jewelry artisan there, peddling his wares. Most of his pieces were garbage, but there were two that stood out from the rest. A peacock and a butterfly brooch. I bought them as a pair, the butterfly for me, and the peacock for my wife. The artisan admitted that he wasn’t the original creator, that the jewels had been discovered in a cavern nearby, along with a book. I bought that as well.”
Master Fu listened intently, not saying a word.
“Soon after returning to Paris, my wife and I discovered the truth of our brooches. The kwamis appeared one day, and allowed us to transform. I used Nooroo as a muse, taking inspiration when given. My wife, likewise used Duusuu to create sentimonsters, just of small size, to keep around as pets, and even more artistic inspiration. We, of course, hid this from Adrien.” Gabriel stood suddenly, and beckoned Fu to follow him.
The old man did so, with some level of caution.
Gabriel went to the painting of his wife, gesturing to the spot next to him.
As Master Fu stepped up to look at the woman, Gabriel continued. “While we prospered in business and bonded over this magic and strengthened our marriage, my wife became sick. It started with a cough. Then coughing fits that had her doubled over. She was extremely weak and had more and more dizzy spells. Eventually, we realized it was because the peacock Miraculous was broken, but by then, it was too late.” He reached out, and pushed a sequence of buttons on the canvas, the floor shuddering and beginning to sink underneath them.
Master Fu had to scoot closer as the elevator descended.
They took the ride in silence, eventually coming into a cavernous atrium. There were trees and a garden up ahead.
Still wary, Master Fu followed Gabriel down the steel bridge, ending up in front of a glass coffin, with the woman in the painting asleep inside.
Fu gasped at the sight.
“She’s in a coma.” Gabriel explained, with real, actual sorrow in his voice. “And there’s no way for her to wake up. I wanted the Black Cat and Ladybug miraculous…because Nooroo told me together they create ultimate power, and that I could make any wish I wanted. I could wish for Emilie to wake up. I’d…I’d have her back again. Then I wouldn’t need the Miraculous after that. You could have them back!” He swallowed. “I know the world thinks I’m selfish, awful, cruel, and they probably imagine the worst case scenario if I were to get them. I might take over the world, or destroy it…or something equally evil. But…all I wanted was my wife back…for my son to have his mother back.”
They stood there in silence, as Master Fu digested all the information he just received.
“I’m sorry.” He began. “But…even if you had both of the Miraculous, things would not go the way you’d want them to.”
Gabriel turned to face him, indicating that he was listening, but not doing more than that.
“The wish from ultimate power works in equivalent exchange. It changes what is true, but only by a step. If you wished for unfathomable riches, someone else would lose their wealth. If you wished for power, someone in power would fall. And…if you wished for your wife to wake, someone else dearly beloved by you would fall into a coma in her stead. Most likely, Adrien.”
Gabriel let out an anguished moan at the news, holding his arms over his chest.
“Further more, the Miraculous, when used together, take a toll on the body. Marinette used the mouse, the fox, the cat, and the Ladybug at the same time, but as different versions of herself, because of the mouse miraculous. If she had activated them all together at once, she would have fallen ill, or even died. It was a heavy enough burden even to wear them.
“If you were to activate the Cat and Ladybug at the same time, and survive that intense power, you’d never be the same person.”
“So what am I going to do?” He dropped his arms in frustration. “Let her go? I can’t! She’s still here! Still alive!”
Master Fu looked back to the coffin. “Do you mind if I examine her?”
With a sigh, Gabriel pressed a button on the coffin, opening it. “Please hurry. She can’t survive long without the respirator.”
Fu nodded and got to work, feeling her wrist, and her neck right under her jaw. He pressed softly on her temple, and pinched the base of her neck.
“How long has she been in this state?”
“Four years.”
He rested the back of his hand against her nose.
“Well?” Asked Gabriel, now becoming impatient.
“She can be saved.” Fu determined, backing away from her and allowing the lid to close again.
“What will it take?”
“Time, and money.” Fu said outright. “Because of you awakening the old sentimonster from Tibet, the temple of the guardians has been restored. If you were to send Emilie and the peacock miraculous there, they would surely be able to help her. But they will most likely take the Miraculous in exchange. And…I don’t know how long it will take for her to be healed.”
Gabriel breathed. A real, true breath of relief. “Money is no problem. I can send the private jet there and have a helicopter waiting on site. As for time…I’ve waited this long. I can wait a little longer.”
“You should also send whoever is currently using the Peacock too. Mayura is not well.”
“Nathalie…she would be the best to go anyways, to explain to the monks what has happened.”
“I will write a letter,” said Fu. “They don’t speak French.”
“I would go too, but I have to be here for Adrien. I…I hate that I have to pick between them.”
“Emilie will be in good hands.” Master Fu assured.
Gabriel took Fu’s hand in a firm handshake. “Thank you, Mr. Fu. This eases my mind. The thought of losing both of them…” He harshly inhaled, holding in emotion. “…is not something I’d like to think about.”
“I understand. I will prepare the arrangements for the flight.”
Detective Joseph Bertony. One of Europol’s best and brightest. A sharp man who lived a hard life.
He’d seen some shit.
At present, he’s at his hotel room in Le Grand Paris, reviewing the facts. Again.
There were countless coffee cups strewn all over the room, as he had been awake for days watching and noting everything in the stream.
The hotel room looked like a library had diarrhea. Papers and maps were scattered across every surface.
Among it all, the detective stood looking at the map on the coffee table. The very same map that Alya and Nino had marked a few days prior. The detective had his own map, in which he cross-referenced with theirs.
His map was covered in little red ‘X’s, of all the places his hunches had taken him to.
Given the report he had just received, he crossed one more location off.
There was only one left.
It couldn’t be.
But all the evidence made sense! Every scrap of information he had snagged, every bit of information logged from the servers in Montparnasse.
They weren’t in Germany at all! They were—
There was a knock at the door.
The detective didn’t answer. He had put the ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign on the handle. Why was anyone bothering him?
Another knock. “Room service.”
“I’m busy!” He shouted back, rather harshly. God, he was so tired!
The interloper persisted, and knocked again, harder.
Annoyed about being interrupted, the detective crossed the floor to the threshold. “Look, I’m really not in need of anything, so if you could just leave me—“
He opened the door, only to stare into the barrel of a gun.
And then—

Bi the Pricking of my Thumbs
Huge thanks to @galahadwilder for letting me play in your sandbox!
For those just tuning in, this story comes from THIS post. In case it’s not obvious, this is a piece in honor of pride month. It's safest to assume that no one is straight or cis in this story. If this is a problem for you, if Bi-drien and Bi-nette have no place in your head, this is probably not the story for you, and it would be better for both of us if you just take a hard pass and skip it. Sincere questions are welcome, but bi-phobia will not be tolerated.
Note: Chat’s father is a bigoted fuckwad, and Marinette knows the stats for poor outcomes for queer kids.
Also on AO3.
Chapter 1
"What do you think?" Marinette held up a sketch for Tikki to see the minor modification she wanted to make to her superhero look for the month of June.
"Very tasteful," Tikki said, clapping her little nubs together happily. As she examined the pink, blue and purple striped ribbons.  "They’re clearly a nod to your own sexuality, helping bring awareness and visibility, while remaining your usual professional Ladybug self." She swooped in and nuzzled her holder's cheek. "It's so nice to see society changing their perspective on this matter."
"I can't wait to show Chat." At seventeen, she truly felt her partner was her best friend. Sure, she had very good friends in her civilian life, and some of them even unknowingly backed her up in battle now and again, but over time Chat's unwavering support had risen above the rest. About nine months after getting their miraculous, Master Fu started meeting with them to learn more about their individual specialties and powers. He gave them homework and exercises to work on both alone and together. Despite the covert nature of their time together, it had had the intense bonding impact of a week away at camp, adding to their already strong friendship.
While she still insisted they maintain their secret identities, she'd relaxed a lot as she'd grown more confident and sure of herself as both Ladybug and Marinette. She was no longer opposed to sharing personal details that wouldn't identify them, though in the last year she'd gradually accepted that a reveal wouldn't be such a bad thing. It had been nice to really get to know and understand her partner. Given his isolated upbringing and cold father, it made sense that he'd needed to learn proper social etiquette for pursuing someone romantically. She'd been gratified when he met up with her for training one evening with a heartfelt apology for his self-described "dudebro behavior." He'd been respectful and appropriate ever since.
"Didn't Chat say he was planning on coming out this month?" Tikki asked. "In his civilian life?"
Marinette nodded. “That’s part of why I want to do this, this year. I want to support him for a change.” He'd seen and heard how her own process worked for her. At fifteen, Ladybug came out as bi, letting her test the waters and see if she could handle the reaction without a super suit to deflect the cruelty she expected to follow. The following year, Marinette made it clear to those who hadn't already figured it out. Since it wasn't something she'd actively hidden, it wasn't a big surprise to her friends and family, though it was confirmation for those who didn't already know for sure.
Last year the two heroes had been asked to speak at Paris Pride Fortnight, and Chat Noir made a beautiful heartfelt speech at Tour Montparnasse, ultimately revealing that he wasn't merely a supportive ally, but that he was also bisexual. Only Ladybug knew that her sweet and kind partner was still very firmly in the closet as his unmasked self. She'd been the person he went to when he was starting to question his sexuality, and she'd been first person he'd told once he felt he knew where on the scale he landed. She suspected she was still the only one who knew, and she was excited and hopeful that his friends would be as supportive as hers were.
"It's about time to meet up with him," Marinette said. Technically it was a little early, but Chat was often early to their trainings. It got him out of his house and let him feel free. "Can we give the new ribbons a test run?"
"Of course!" Tikki said brightly. "You know the words."
* * *
Chat looked the part of an utterly dejected kitten when she found him atop the Eiffel Tower. He didn't even try to fake it when she zipped up to their favorite beam and landed beside his hunched form. He glanced at her, a deep hurt clear in his eyes before he returned his gaze to Paris. "Hey Bug," he said softly.
"May I hug you?" She was pretty sure of the answer, but she needed to be sure. "You look like you need a hug or thirty-six."
He let out a totally unamused snort. "I would love a hug, and I'm not sure thirty-six even comes close to what I need." His voice sounded rough, something she'd learned happened  when he'd fought with his father. Shouting and crying were hard on him.
She threw her arms around him, pulling him close. "I'm happy to listen if you want to talk about it. But we can also sit quietly if that would help you more. It's entirely your call."
He took a shuddering breath and burrowed into her shoulder.
"Oh Kitty, I'm so sorry," she murmured, moving to lean against an upright beam so she could better hold his weight. "Whatever it is, I'm here for you."
After many long minutes, he seemed to relax, the shakiness had passed. "It's my father," he muttered. "But you probably already guessed that."
She was starting to think the biggest danger in revealing identities was that she'd straight up murder his father once she knew who he was. The abusive fuckwad.
"I told him that I planned to come out as bi in the next few days, and… I knew he wouldn't like it, so I'd done my research. I had a whole presentation on my planned social media announcements and stuff. I had statistics to show that it wouldn't hurt in faaa - our line of business." He let out a heavy sigh.
"It didn't go well?" She wished everyone had parents like hers.  So supportive and loving.
"Ha!" He let out a mirthless laugh. "Apparently, he didn't realize I wasn't straight." He sat up, rubbing angrily at his face. "I guess that means I've done a good job at hiding it, or maybe he really pays as little attention to me as my friends say."
She caught his hand. "Did he hurt you?"
He cringed and she wished she could take back her words at the pain they obviously caused. "I have no illusions that he loves me.  I'm not sure he's capable of it. And I kind of thought he didn't feel anything, that maybe he wasn't human enough to have emotions anymore, but the disgust… the absolute revulsion he feels for me being bi… it hurt far more than any slap or punch could have."
She scowled out at the lights of Paris. "Just so we're clear here, I hate your father. I've never really hated anything, not truly hated it before.  It's kind of a gross feeling."
"Yeah. I know what you mean." His voice was soft, and she wondered how many times he tried to convince himself that he didn't really hate his father. "Anyway, I… I don't think it's going to be possible for me to be public about my sexuality until I move out. He hauled out his usual array of threats if I go against his wishes and come out as planned."
"Oh my god, is he Hawkmoth?" she demanded. "Because he sure as hell is having a go at being Paris' greatest villain." She shook her head. "You're seventeen.  You know how you feel, and science is behind us on this. Sexuality isn't binary and all evidence suggests that treating your queer kids like there's something wrong with them increases their risk of alcohol and drug use, depression, and suicide." Though she had to miss more meetings than she wanted, she'd joined the Lycee chapter of the Gender and Sexuality Alliance in her first year there. Lots of people thought she was just being supportive of Marc since it was also the year they started collaborating on cross disciplinary projects. With the meetings she’d made it to, she'd learned more than she'd ever wanted to know about poor outcomes for teens like them.
She turned to give Chat a full once-over. "You're not okay, Chat. And that's fair.  It would be unreasonable to expect you to be okay while living in the home of a man who finds your sexuality disgusting. For your own well-being, I think you need to start looking at getting out of there as soon as you can. Whether you get your own place, or you stay with friends, you need to get out of that house."
He nodded, looking a bit surprised by her vehemence.
"You're beautiful and amazing, and I'm so proud of you." She caught his face in both her hands. "You are perfect the way you are. There's absolutely nothing wrong with you."
Even in the low light, she caught the warm flush of pink in his cheeks. "Thanks, Milady."
"And I need you to do me a favor." She picked up one of his hands, clasping it firmly between hers.
"Anything," he whispered.
"I need you to tell me immediately if you ever feel like harming yourself.” She was completely serious, and she saw surprise on his face.
“Oh, I’d never…”
She shook her head. “No Chat. You may think you’d never, right now. But that can change. And it can change so fast.” She squeezed his hand. “You may feel like you’re deflecting your father’s hostility and negative reaction, but some of that gets through. And it will every time. It will add up, and it can suffocate you. So promise, please.”
Understanding washed away the surprise. He nodded.
“I need you, Kitty,” she said gently. “I really can’t do this without you. I wouldn’t have the heart to keep doing it.”
His smile was weak and watery, but it was sincere. “Thanks Milady.”
“And you’ll work on getting out of the house?” she asked, certain it was the long-term solution he really needed.
“I’m going to need to think that one over a bit more,” he admitted with a shrug. “There’s… a lot to consider.”
“There is,” she agreed. “And if you can’t figure it all out, let me know.  I’ll help. I’ll find you a place to stay if need be.”
He hugged her again, for a long moment.
As she tightened her grip on him, she considered what else he could to to feel better. “Maybe you should find one friend, one person who you know will absolutely not blab to others, and let them know. You deserve to have someone in your regular life who you can share this stuff with.”
“It seems unfair to burden any of my friends with this secret,” he admitted.
“My Maman has a saying about that,” she pointed out. “A burden shared, is a burden halved. Just make sure it’s someone who will respect your need for secrecy.”
“I’ll think about it,” he agreed. “Like seriously and for real.
