The Hijacked Planet
Tumblr media
Star Trek #18
Yikes!
"Incredible! We're going to move a whole planet!"
Most of these comics play fast and loose with the established facts of the television series. But they are often fun stories, nonetheless. This one is not.
First, it's gets too much wrong. Scotty is a bit of a ladies man here, with no great love of duty. Spock, meanwhile, easily falls for a hot space babe. And he makes some reckless decisions without telling anyone.
Second, the storytelling is flawed. Most of Spock's actions make no sense. Late in the story, for instance, he sneaks aboard the ship to steal something. He clobbers a crewman. In the end, we learn that the command crew were working with him all along. So... why attack the other guy? The story is full of stuff like this.
That's before we even talk about the idea of miniaturising an entire planet and its population!!

Carnival of Fear
Tumblr media
Werewolf by Night #6
Better than average.
Jack is captured, caged in a carnival.
This story is a bit better that most in the series so far. Having Jack captured is an interesting hook. And there is conflict among the captors, as one guy doesn’t want the Werewolf added to the carnival. The chase at the end is good too, as the Werewolf hunts his former tormentor (looking for revenge).
On Sale Date: March 27, 1973.
