(Image: Tech and Naomi Nagata, in this latest chapter. I'm proud Tech doesn't resemble Hank Hill as much here, lol)
This latest chapter of Far Past the Ring was so important for me to write.
Tech and Naomi have another conversation, and Tech learns that he is not the only person who processes moments and thoughts differently.
Rex is introduced to Camina Drummer.
And most importantly, Clone Force 99, as well as the clones they've rescued, discover that they are not safe in their new universe at all.

Morocco Demystified - Marrakech
It was by chance I found myself sitting aboard an aircraft bound for Morocco. The previous week as I contemplated my next destination, the country was not in contention. It was November and many of the European destinations under consideration were experiencing poor weather. Then, as if by happenstance, I was offered a fare to Marrakech (Marrakesh) for just €26 (about $25US). Morocco is a country…

Buenos Aires - Retiro: Estación General San Martín - La Gesta Sanmartiniana
flickr
Buenos Aires - Retiro: Estación General San Martín La Gesta Sanmartiniana, a series of eight sculptural narrative murals designed in 1969 by artist Rodolfo R. Medina line the hallway towards la estación General San Martín. The murals are executed in polychrome cement and depict the achievements of General José de San Martín. La estación General San Martín, a station on línea C (line C) de la red de subterráneos de la ciudad de Buenos Aires (Buenos Aires Metro), was inaugurated on August 17, 1937. The Subterráneo de Buenos Aires (Bueneos Aires Metro), known locally as Subte, first opened in 1913. It was the first mass-transit system in South America, the Southern Hemisphere and the entire Spanish-speaking world. The network expanded rapidly during the early decades of the 20th century, but the pace of expansion fell sharply after the Second World War.

Today - January 19 th, 1985 - Queen Story!
Queen in Rio to perform at the 'Rock in Rio Festival', Brazil, Barra da Tijuca, during 'Works!' Tour - August '84/May '85
- Second night in Rio
🔸At 2 am Queen take the stage again at the Rock In 'Rio festival' in front of an estimated crowd of between 250 and 300,000 spectators
🔸300,000 people a night have been listening to 90 hours of music over 10 days at a custom built arena nestling in the mountains at Barra Da Tijuca.
The place is 250,000 square metres in size and about the length of a small airport. It’s not your usual site with tacky old hamburger stands either. There’s a shopping centre with more than 30 shops, a fast food centre including the world’s largest McDonalds, a fully equipped hospital and flush toilets and showers.
You could land a jumbo jet on the stage, which is 21,000 sq feet in size with revolving sections to move equipment around. Twenty tons of lighting equipment with 160,000lbs of sound equipment belting out 500,000 watts of power have been flown in. The arena has its own electric sub station.
Rock in Rio should play to 3,000,000 people beating the Guinness Book of Records champion, Watkins Glenn festival in 1973, which could only manage 600,000.
It all beats confession and a few Hail Marys in church on Sunday, so the local clergy have issued a statement condemning the event, saying it will corrupt the nation’s youth. The Government is backing the Church and the official censor nearly succeeded in banning anyone under 18 going to the concert.
Rock In Rio is costing around 11 million dollars to stage. It’s the brainchild of Brazilian advertising man Roberto Medina and he wants to make it an annual event

A cross-county chase involving multiple law enforcement agencies ended with a Tampa man under arrest.
The suspect, Walter Medina, was wanted out of Hillsborough County for allegedly inflicting months of torture and abuse on a woman he held captive.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Florida Highway Patrol was advised of an active pursuit of the suspect traveling east on Interstate 4 heading from Polk County into Osceola County.
Investigators said the suspect, driving a gold Town and Country Ford van, attempted to get away from law enforcement by driving at high speed and weaving in and out of traffic recklessly, endangering other motorists.
FHP troopers, deputies with Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and officers with the Lakeland Police Department continued to pursue the suspect who they say began driving on left shoulder at more than 100 miles per hour.
Law enforcement attempted several precision immobilization techniques (PIT) maneuvers but were unable to stop the suspect’s van.
At one point, investigators said the suspect hit another vehicle and drove off the exit ramp at John Young Parkway and then, after running a red light, crashed into a raised median.
After the crash, troopers said the suspect refused to comply with commands, so FHP K-9 Rico was deployed, who apprehended the fleeing suspect.
Medina popped up on law enforcement’s radar on Monday after Hillsborough County deputies responded to a gas station in Seffner after a caller reported an injured female had just escaped from a van and needed help.
According to deputies, the victim, who had been panhandling in the area since 2024, met the suspect, Walter Medina during that time. Investigators said Medina initially provided the victim with food and narcotics before his actions turned violent and “subjected her to months of relentless physical abuse and captivity.”
Deputies said that Medina repeatedly assaulted the victim using a wooden baseball bat and a flathead screwdriver, inflicting severe injuries including broken ribs, deep puncture wounds, and extensive bruising.
Medina allegedly threatened to kill the victim if she fled or sought help.
The victim had the chance to escape when Medina briefly left her unattended at Walgreens, deputies said.
“I can’t imagine the torture this victim endured for months, but I can imagine the relief she felt when our deputies arrived,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “I have to commend the bravery of the victim for escaping her captor and seeking help. Our thoughts are with her as she recovers from this traumatic ordeal.”
“This suspect’s reign of violent terror is now over,” Chronister added.
Walter Medina was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center after his arrest. When he is released from the hospital, Medina will be taken to the Orange County Jail to be booked on multiple charges, including attempted murder and kidnapping.

The Saints Row Radio Expansion Project.
So, for a few years now I've been working on this idea on and off to rework the radio stations in Saints Row because while they're mostly great, they could be better. From making more sense of some stations (Gen X now plays 90s alt rock instead of Emo and 2000s indie rock, The Faction now plays Industrial and The Blood now plays Goth) to adding and subtracting tracks, my hope is to give people more music. This will cover all the games, including the reboot and the youtube versions will be posted because not everyone has spotify. Songs Cut: - Arma-Goddamn-Motherfuckin'-Geddon: M*rilyn M*anson (because fuck that guy) - Funky Cold Medina: Tone Loc (because it hasn't aged well and is hella transphobic) - WWIII: KMFDM (I love KMFDM, there's just a more fitting song by them than WWIII) - Power: Ye West (Because fuck K*nye)

Let's Talk: Space Living!
Medina Station’s interior was explored as a rudimentary part of The Expanse show, and more is discussed in the books and the upcoming comic series.
However, as a science writer with a background in physics (and who has an interest in gardening), I wanted to explore more of this possibility of a self-sustaining ecosystem that serves as a crossroads of empires, galaxies, and everything in between. The prairie and fields of Medina’s interior, to say nothing of the residencies that we will explore later on in Far Past the Ring,
Why are they in a cylinder? Medina Station’s structure is not fan made, it is the actual design that started in season 1 of The Expanse. Originally designed as the LDSS Nauvoo, it was created as a generation ship for the Latter-Day Saints to eventually find a new colony. The ship was designed so that thousands of LDS members could live and survive in space for over a hundred years, until they made it to Alpha Centauri. Things happened, and now it’s a station.
But the station itself was created, similar to an O’Neill Cylinder (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O%27Neill_cylinder), to create both artificial gravity and a structure that would allow the colonists to farm and live as they traveled.  This is a common trope in many advanced science fiction pieces (you might recognize it from Interstellar and Mass Effect), Additionally, by constantly tilting, it creates not only gravity, but a stronger force, which, though it doesn’t seem like much, does allow for humans to receive adequate amounts of gravity, thus negating the effects of low-g on their bodies that many Belters have faced for generations.
Tumblr media
(Image taken from the subreddit, r/StableDiffusion, an artist's interpretation of Cooper Station from 'Interstellar')
Children born on this station will, most likely, not have the same effects on their bodies that they would in a place with less gravity, which has affected Belters for generation, so much so that many can not survive on a regular planet. This may play a bigger role in the series…you’d better keep reading to find out!
What is the ecosystem like? One of the things Klaes Ashford says that I found especially rueful was the comment about ‘they invented the most advanced spaceship so they could farm like savages’, regarding the LDS settlers who commissioned the construction of the LDSS Nauvoo (which would eventually evolve into Medina Station). Never-freaking-mind that is how humanity has survived for thousands of years: many times, the simplest solution is the best (You’d think Ashford, the most Belter of Belters, would know that!), especially in regards to crop production.
According to my research–as well as my own personal experience working with indigenous land practices during my time as an AmeriCorps volunteer–creating an environment that nourishes the soil would be best on a landscape in which the most amount of cereal crops can be produced (https://www.fs.usda.gov/inside-fs/delivering-mission/apply/study-prairie-strips-integrated-row-crops-growing-momentum).
Tumblr media
(Photo from Sand County Foundation. As a Midwesterner, I can literally SMELL this picture from my computer. It's amazing!)
Thus, a prairie, similar to the ones found in places like Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota–some of the top producing farmland on Earth–is necessary for Medina Station and the colonies that it supports, to survive. This drier climate also allows for lesser amounts of rust and moisture to occur within the station, while the plants still allow for air to be properly filtered. Coincidentally, the aforementioned states are the homeland of the Anishinaabe/Ojibwe people, which will be discussed below.
Why a prairie? This comes out of my own background, with a brief panache of narcissism. As Naomi mentions in Sky Prairie, Part 4, having a prairie in lieu of trees makes sense (https://www.nationalgeographic.org/encyclopedia/prairie/#:~:text=The%20prairie%20grasses%20hold%20the,wheat%2C%20rye%2C%20and%20oats). The plants are more conducive to creating a richer and more complex soil, necessary for growing crops in space. Additionally, they can still produce a significant amount of oxygen and water, vital for life in this universe and beyond. Finally, by cycling the crops, including that of prairie grass, the soil can continue to be nourished in a fashion that will not exhaust it. This is another reason why cows are forbidden on Medina Station, and even smaller dairy ungulates, such as sheep and goats, are given a bit of side eye from the administration.
This is also a personal objective for myself, and should be addressed. I am a settler, but I was born, raised, and now live on the historic lands of the Anishinaabe/Ojibwe people, who have lived and worked in this ecosystem of mixed forest and prairie for thousands of years. Interestingly enough, Cara Gee (the actress who plays Camina Drummer) is of Ojibwe descent herself.
Tumblr media
(Image from the Star Tribune)
Although it is not officially canon in the world of The Expanse, in my mind, the Drummer family is of Ojibwe descent themselves. I hoped this would be reflected in multiple aspects of this story. First, the professions of the women–where one is a healer (Tanke Drummer, a physician), one gathers plants (Sjael Drummer, a chemical engineer), and the other is the guiding spirit of her people (Camina Drummer, the president). All are fierce defenders and patriots of the Belt.
Taken from the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community (an Ojibwe community in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan): “Self-discipline, survival skills, loyalty, solidarity, and respect within family are above all individual interests”...a sentiment that is surely reflected in not only the Beltalowda, but amongst Clone Force 99 as well.
You may also find additional Anishinaabe/Ojibwe words and references throughout Far Past the Ring, such as the names of Camina and Tanke/Sjael’s fathers (‘Aki’ = Ojibwe for ‘Earth’ and ‘Anang’ = Ojibwe for ‘Star’), Tanke’s title amongst her family (‘Niimama’ = Ojibwe for ‘my mother’), and the eagle feather tattoos on the necks of those in the Drummer family who have served the people as either warriors or healers. Certain characters wear embroidery and flowers similar in the fashion of the Ojibwe people as well.
There could always be healthier representation of indigeneity within science fiction, and I would like to think I’m doing my best here.
Why are all the buildings made of stucco/adobe? I’d like to think Naomi Nagata does a good job of explaining this, but here’s some more detail.
Stucco is cheap and easy to make, and works very well in a dry environment, like Medina Station’s interior. As metal and plastic might not stand the climate within the station, stucco and adobe, made of the earth from the Hub itself, is a better material to use. Additionally, by being fireproof, it is a safer option to use when the fields need to have prescribed burns on them, a dangerous but necessary step that requires multiple hands on deck, with the watchful eye of Timon Chapelle on top of it all).
The structure’s design is not aesthetic in mindset, to be honest. The Hub is a nucleated settlement (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nucleated_village), made to not only save the most amount of room for farming and cultivating crops, but also to foster a better sense of community and continuity amongst  the residents within.
Tumblr media
(Photo from https://opentext.wsu.edu/)
Ultimately, the Hub is envisioned to look like the Taos Pueblo (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taos_Pueblo), which, while not a prairie habitat per se (though those have existed–thanks Frank Lloyd Wright!) offers solid dwelling in terms of heating and cooling, ease of supply creation, and a more organic feel to housing that, for many Earthers, is assuring, and for Martians and Belters, a new experience that helps them reconnect with their Terran roots.
Tumblr media
(Photo taken from WTTW Chicago)
The Ziyaret, meanwhile, is also constructed of adobe, but, due to the transitional nature of its residents, does not have the intense communal aspect of the Hub. Instead, it is a reflection of the Islamic roots of the term ‘Medina’, and the nature of movement in human history, making it resemble one of the many mosques and madrassas found within Mali (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Djinguereber_Mosque), constructed as places of safe haven along a perilous trade route.
Tumblr media
(Photo taken from The Guardian)
How does everyone move around? Methane and other gasses are a challenge to have in this type of environment due to the need to keep air pollution at a minimum. As a result, bicycles, skateboards, and other similar modes of transportation are strongly encouraged–a treat for Earthers and a confusing new mode for Belters and Martians! Additionally, this taps right into the independent spirit of the Belt–you do not need to beg for gas when you have a bike!

The Interns @ 930
Tumblr media
While Victoria wants to focus on furthering her career, she seems to have gotten distracted by her roommate's [married and local politician] brother, Peter Montgomery. Will she be able to handle the stresses of residency AND her love life?
Tumblr media
A native of Selvadorada, Javier Alvarez (snackalicious) recently arrived in San Myshuno and started working at the hospital. He's already made friends with Annabelle Fields, who invited him to move in with her, but he would like to be more than friends. Will he get the courage to tell her or will work get in the way of their relationship?
Tumblr media
Eleanor Mantilla is fierce, independent, confident Mount Komorebi native, and is more than ready to rise to the top of her residency program at San Myshuno Regional Hospital. The only reason she moved into Apartment 930 is because the rent was cheap and the building was right next to the subway station. She doesn't need friends to become the best doctor, but does she need them to be come the best person she can be?
Tumblr media
The brother of Representative Peter Montgomery, Liam is Montgomery family royalty, which has made his life a cake walk. While Liam actually does want to become a doctor, he'd rather be the life of the party. Will his roommates be a positive influence on him, or will he party his way right out of hospital's residency program?
Tumblr media
Annabelle is eager to save lives and demonstrate that being raised on a farm and tending to animals sets you up for a successful career as a doctor and caregiver in the medical field. It's not all about the medicine for Annabelle, it's about having a good beside manner and looking out for each other, too. Will she be able to survive residency with her gentle nature in tact?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, after days of play testing and distraction, here are the residents of 930 Medina Studios! I had some broad ideas for their backstories, but the drama started as soon as I moved them into their apartment, which DEFINITELY helped me flush out everything out.
Although I applaud them for successfully eating together at the dining room table, the 100% AUTONOMOUS DRAMA with Victoria, Annabelle and Javier that ensued is NUTS. They're looking very tan in their portraits below because they went to the Humor and Hijinks Festival in the summer time, by the way. At said festival, Victoria met Peter, Liam's older brother. The two instantly started flirting with each other (much to the dismay of Peter's wife, Alicia), and have been seeing each other on and off since. Additionally, even though Annabelle met and was attracted to Raj Rasoya at the same festival, she and Javier got tipsy and woohoo'd that evening. While Annabelle doesn't remember what happened, Javier is smitten with her!
Hmmm...what else? They're all video game addicts, so when they're not working, drinking or woohooing, they're gaming together, which is kind of adorable. There's also an official club called '930 Doctors,' of which they are all members. Club activities include anything and everything to let off steam after work: gaming, dancing, joking, etc.
Tray Files (including Packs Used, CC + Mods List) are below the break.
Tray Files: Google Drive | SimFileShare
It was beyond exhausting to make five very detailed Sims in CAS in one sitting, I need to ease into it the next time I make a large household. However, the effort totally paid off - I was laughing my ass off at all the crazy shenanigans that this crew got up to while I was play testing their apartment.
The Interns @ 930 have also been uploaded to The Gallery as one household; make sure to check ‘Include Custom Content’ when you search!

Also The Expanse for the TV meme?
Favourite character: Camina 'Live shamed and die empty' Drummer 🥰🥰🥰
Funniest character: Hmm..it's not exactly a laugh riot of a show, but I remember thinking Avasarala's bodyguard Cotyar had some good dry humor lines.
Best-looking character: Probably Drummer again, although Avasarala and her outfits get an honorable mention.
3 favourite ships: The Roci, the Razorback, and Medina Station. 😜The Belter polycule, Camina/Naomi...maaaybe Amos/Clarissa? Naomi/Jim are ok and kind of sweet but...eh, kinda boring.
Least favourite character: Oh there was no shortage of odious characters: Inaros, Errinwright, Murtry, Strickland, Gao...honestly it's a toss-up between Strickland and Gao, I think, they were both pretty irredeemable. So was Inaros, of course, but he felt less cold-blooded than the other two.
Least favourite ship: Miller and Julie Mao, if that was a ship, or maybe Alex/Bobbie because Cas Anvar ruined a good character with his bs gdit.
Reason why I watch it: Honestly it might be the best show I've ever watched. I love plenty of light-hearted, fun-but-kinda-silly shows, and sometimes hard drama isn't my favorite, but my god The Expanse is just incredible. Virtually every character is rich, nuanced, human. The diversity is clearly intentional and yet it feels effortless and natural - it just makes sense. There are hard sci-fi elements and yet the story and characters are grounded in very believable and relatable Earthbound issues.
Why I started watching it: Word of mouth and good buzz, I think. The shock events of the pilot had me hooked pretty much immediately.
Thanks so much!

@galaxye sent a meme: i’m trying to start a new life . from saba @ drummer
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A new union meant new faces on Medina Station, new allies and captains and factions vying to make their voices heard above the parapet, trying to ingratiate themselves with the Belter pirate who was now in charge of operations here. It was difficult to judge all of them, determining whether they were purely in this for their own gain, or whether they truly wanted to make a difference to beltalowda across the system. Camina could see through kaka felota well enough or the most part, but she was still growing accustomed to the political nuances of managing an entire institution. Playing nice was not in her nature, but she had to concede that some compromises were necessary on certain individuals to ensure that Belters remained a united front.
Saba was not one of them, though. He seemed upfront and honest, and Camina liked that.
“ I'm na here to judge which side of the conflict you were on. ” She had not asked about his past before he'd arrived on Medina Station; it truly did not matter to her whether he had fought on Marco's behalf or not. The UNN and MCRN might have balked at the idea of having ex-OPA members in the Union, but they were among some of the most respected figures in the Belt. They were going to have to deal with it. “ Is a new start for beltalowda, and I want Belters from all sides of the argument at the table. ” Her steely gaze remained fixed on him appraisingly. “ I want our voice loud, and I want our voice angry. Is the only way we will get the inyas to continue to take us seriously even after the novelty wear off. ”

More Morocco.
It’s 4 weeks since we left Marrakech and headed to the seaside town of Essaouira on the Atlantic coast.
The road trip to Essaouira - with J&J and their children - was a great start to our time by the sea. Once we left the busy Marrakech roads the landscape emptied. To our left were the Atlas Mountains, visible only as distant hills on the horizon. Our driver stopped at a roadside stall where lamps, woven goods and ceramics - many made on-site - were sold. I am entranced by the Moroccan aesthetic with its bright colours, artisanship and practicality. Consequently I left with a bit more stuff to pack.
Our second stop was for lunch and comfort breaks. We pulled into a petrol station which also housed a cafe. Behind the facade was an oasis, surrounded by seating in the Berber fashion, lots of different birds in cages, an ostrich (!) and a horse. There seemed to be a lot of people working at the station including three impeccably dressed young men, all operating the single cash register.
The third stop was at a cooperative, run entirely by women, producing Argan oil and the many derivative products. Argan oil has provided many Moroccan women with a path out of poverty as the processes involved with harvesting and production are primarily women’s business.
The landscape changed as we approached Essaouira, undulating and with the scrubby growth common to so many seaside locations around the world. We were deposited outside the walls of the medina and our luggage (and the kids) were taken by cart to our riad. Essaouira has very sensibly banned motorcycles within the medina, unlike Marrakech where there are motorbikes and cars in the very narrow streets. Consequently Essaouira is quieter and very pedestrian friendly. Every street and lane has so much to look at with the beautiful doorways common to Moroccan homes and businesses.
G made his way, almost immediately, to the beach returning with a report that the water was very cold, a real shock after the Meditteranean!
More soon…..

After he has realized this station [of self-reckoning] and dismounted at this station, [the seeker] proceeds toward the station of repentance. For if through self-reckoning he can now distinguish between what is on his side from what is against him, he must now roll up his sleeves to attain it, and stay with it until death.
The station of repentance is the first of the stations, the middle, and the last. The servant never parts from it and stays with it until death. As he journeys from one station to the next, this station must accompany him all along.
Repentance, therefore, is the beginning of a servant as it is the end, and his need for it at the end is as dire as it is in the beginning. The Exalted has said, “And repent to God, all of you, O believers, perhaps you may succeed” [24:31].
This verse was revealed in Medina and God addressed through it the faithful believers and the choicest of God’s creation after their attainment of faith, patience, emigration and jihad. Yet, He connected their success to repentance as in a cause and effect relationship. He used the particle laʿalla, which indicates hope, thus announcing that if you repent you may hope for success, for none but the repentant are entitled to hope. May God make us among them
-Madarij As-Salikin by Imam Ibn Qayyim.
