I'd love to see a one piece fic where we just see exagerated versions of their dynamic in a modern way, and let me explain this with Zoro.

First we'd see how he was left by his parents at the dojo, orphan Zoro getting foster care by Kuina's father, but i don't see him actually seeing that man as a father figure.

Now lets also say Kuina didn't die at a young age and rather stayed with him until she had just started middle school. At this point, if Zoro now, can call her a best friend, if they spent this long together, I think he would see her as a sibling and they would call each other sis and baby bro (to annoy him).

Again, Kuina doesn't die, but lets say she moves out of the country to other relatives, leaving Zoro alone when he was about to start middle school. So he one day has the 'got lost and never came back' incident during his first year. But everyone at the dojo thought he ran away bc Kuina left. So they didn't bother to look for him.

Lost and alone he manages to run into Mihawk, in this world, world champion. He knows Mihawk so he, even if he was ashamed, decided to ask him for directions to the nearest dojo.

Mihawk, upon seeing wet cat Zoro, decides to take care of him, as he asked where his parents were and Zoro told him he was an orphan.

Mihawk takes him under his wing and goes trough with the adoption process. At first Zoro doesn't really care as long as he has a place to train and stay but soon starts to see them as his actual family. By this time Perona was already adopted by Mihawk and is also and older sister for him.

Drac enrolls Zoro in school and gives him the training. They make him go to all the fancy schools Perona also goes/went to, cuz they don't trust Zoro's judgment to choose one.

And this also includes his university.

He decides to follow the same as Mihawk and in this uni he meets all his friends from different majors and also gets into the masculine judo club.

He doesn't know, but it's the fanciest uni in the country and Kuina is also there.

She didn't know about him, until she say him when he went to look for Perona (which she shares a few classes with) and instantly recognised his green hair.

She couldn't lie about being kindda hurt when she heard him call Perona older sis, but went on with life without saying anything.

Zoro took way longer to notice, bc it was Tashigi who pointed her out to him, when she was talking about this really tall girl she admires named Kuina and he was flabergasted.

Their encounter was emotional and awkward, but they decided to have a sparing session to test each other.

They used the unis campus for this, at night, and Kuina told him that she thought she was ready to challenge Mihawk and Zoro told her she still was no match for his old man, and Kuina went YOUR???

Modern!One Piece

(I'm sorry I'm not an artist so no drawings)

Luffy: Lives with his foster mom, Dandan, and his brothers Ace and Sabo. He was put into foster care by Garp when he got a promotion to Police Captain and was unable to be home enough to take care of Luffy. Ace and Sabo are currently in college at Grand Line University (GLU) while Luffy is currently a third year at East Blue High School. Luffy doesn't really have a goal for his future aside from just not following in Garp's foot steps.

Zoro: Lives with his adoptive dad, Mihawk, and adoptive younger sister, Perona. He used to live at a dojo with his best friend, Kuina, but they moved back to Japan to continue her training. He is currently a third year at East Blue High School and is a part of the Kendo club. He met Luffy back in their first year and quickly became best friends. They tend to get into a lot of fights at school. His goal is the same, to become the world's greatest swordsman.

Nami: She lives with her mom, Bellemere and her sister Nojiko. Bellemere is an ex marine and currently works as a farmer for their family orchard. Nojiko goes to GLU while Nami is a third year at EBHS. She works part time after school to help their family with money and help her pay for her own college even though her boss, Arlong, is a total ass and their business deals with momey laundering. She met Zoro and Luffy her first year and got dragged into their group fairly early on. They helped her get out of working with Arlong and got him arrested even though some of his gang got away. Her goal is to become a meteorologist and cartologist.

Usopp: He currently lives in his van, Merry, that was gifted to him.by his best friend Kaya, whose family owns a majority of the car lots on their side of the city. He is a third year at EBHS and met the crew in his second year. He didn't go to school much in his first year so that's why they didn't see him often. Usopp works at one of Kaya's shops after school, detailing cars. He doesn't really have a goal for the future, but he does want to learn more about mechanics.

Sanji: Currently living with his dad, Zeff, and works at the Baratie when not at school. He met the crew in their second year since he was in a different class than them in their first year. He moved in with Zeff, who was a private chef for the Vinsmokes, as a kid. There's a custody battle going on with them and while the courts favor Zeff, the Vinsmokes have the money and connections as they live on the North side of the city. His goal is to open up his own restaurant or take over the Baratie so Zeff can retire.

Chopper: IS STILL A REINDEER, I will not apologize, it's one piece there doesn't need to be an explanation for how a reindeer is like a human. He doesn't meet the crew until they all enter GLU. He graduated high school early due to being super smart and is on track to be a medical student and become a family doctor. He is the youngest in the crew but they all treat him kindly and he becomes the little brother.

Robin: She works as a professor at GLU in the archeology department. She worked in the Alabasat Desert for a while before returning her findings and deciding to become a teacher. She meets the crew at a local pub where she becomes the sort of mom of the group. Her goal is to uncover the mysteries of the world and discover new things still.

Franky: He owns his own mechanic shop but teaches at GLU in his spare time when his brother, Iceburg, is unable to teach his class. He took over the shop from his dad, Tom, and helps mentor Usopp on the weekends. He even gets Usopp a part time job there as a car detailer and gets connected with Kaya to help expand both their businesses. He meets the crew at the pub as well as him and Robin already knew each other. His goal is to expand his company and hopefully fulfill Tom's dream of being a grade A mechanic.

Brook: Owner of said pub!! He started it with his buddy, Calico, and their band often performed there before he went solo and big time. After Calico passed, Brook settled down and took over the pub where he still performs live. The crew made it their new hang out spot and often get Brook to give them free things. He wishes to perform live for the rest of his life and continue to create music.

Jinbe: STILL A FISHMAN FIGHT ME ABOUT IT I LOVE HIM. He is also a marine biologist that has previously worked with Robin. He traveled back to town where he met the crew while they were in high school but had to leave due to work. He returned about two years later and got a job at the aquarium where he let's the crew in for free most times so they can have fun. His goal is to help people understand more about the sea and combine their worlds.

Vivi: A foreign exchange student from Alabasta that the crew met back in high school. She went to school with them for their third year and met Chopper briefly before she had to return home. She is the daughter of the current King of Alabasta though its more of an honorary position. Her goal is to become a true politician and make her country prosper. She still keeps in touch with the crew and they all have matching tattoos from a drunken night out on the town.

This is all really just headcanons and stuff that I like. I thought about making gangs a huge thing in this au like pirates but idk I like the idea of them just being silly and living life like normal people. I have a lot more ideas so if yall wanna hear them I may do another post in the future.

Eustass Kidd modern AU headcanons :

1000% a metalhead

Dude has piercings everywhere, it's surprising that he's still floating when he's in the water

He hates taking a bath, but suddenly loves it when you're the one suggesting to take one together, predictable

He complains when he sees his natural hair color growing back until you finally give in and help him dye his hair again, just so he leaves you alone

Kidd plays guitar and his grand dream is to join a famous band one day, but for now he's satisfied with his one and only favorite listener: you ❤️ and Killer because he's his best friend

He loves horror movies, especially when it's gore and/or disturbing, I don't know what to tell you

This man legit loves Halloween so much and is not afraid to crash at parties he was originally not invited, dressed in the most terrifying costume ever just to scare people off

Bonus: he made the costume with your help and he cherished every minute of it, even if he never told you out loud ❤️

Probably works at a garage or in one of those shops where they sell instruments

Man threatens the disrespectful customers and flip them off, it's a mystery how he hasn't been fired yet...

He stopped going to school a long time ago because it was just boring and he had skipped a lot of classes anyway, so there was no point in even trying to finish the year

Kidd can't cook for shit, so he orders LOTS of takeout, and he works out at the gym to compensate

You keep telling him his train of life is not healthy, and sometimes you try cooking for him but MAN he's a difficult child

If he could, he would nourish himself with only chips, cereals and energy drinks

Oh, and meat, loooot of meat, this man's a meat lover

Once, you came over to his apartment with freshly bought groceries, ready to make him something actually good for his health

You cooked for an hour and more only for him to complain that he didn't like the ingredients you used in the recipe (vegetables)

Legit had to force him to eat it all by using the blue balls threat

Baby man sulked for hours after this, but you made it up to him afterwards *wink wonk*

He's such a child

Recruiting Friends : A Clever Tangerine

“By the way, what were you doing on that tree?” Zoro asked in between breaths, as he quickly paced the grounds to reach the entrance ceremony.

Grinning before giving his reply, Luffy innocently replied, “I wanted to get a better look at the school from up there!”

Truly an interesting thing to achieve on a first day, Zoro thought. If not for the honesty that transpired from Luffy’s body language — his back seemingly large enough to shoulder the worries of those he held dear, his genuine smile that would make anyone believe everything would be okay and his words, carrying conviction despite their preposterous claims — Zoro would have preferred not to associate himself with such a person. As his eyes gazed along Luffy’s back, a smile shadowed his lips, believing that his first friend would take him places.

Never in his life had Zoro seen such an homogenous assemblage of individuals. They both barely managed to reach the auditorium in which every student had been instructed to be present in while rows upon rows stretched before his eyes of students dressed in the same uniform — the different hair colors serving as a guide to distinguish one from the other.

“So many people,” Luffy voiced aloud, his smile unfaltering as he continued to lead the way inside the room.

Swallowing a dry lump, Zoro focused his gaze on the visible straw hat that stood out like a sore thumb in order to find a seat, secretly stealing glances towards the crowd in the hope of locating the pink pigtails of his sister. However, upon meeting her eyes, he quickly regretted it at the sight of her tongue that poked at him in a teasing manner, leaving him no choice but to look away with a frown. How stupid of him to look for her for reassurance. He cheered himself up by thinking that he wouldn’t have anything to worry about now that he had Luffy to consider as a friend. Said friend, who eagerly prompted to follow him at the sight of two empty seats.

As an uncomfortable self-consciousness settled in Zoro’s stomach while he sat down, he wondered whether he wouldn't have to worry about standing out amidst the similar looking crowd, relieved to have made it in time and in the hopes that his racing heart would soon follow. Focusing his attention on the enthusiasm of his friend, Zoro failed to notice the dubious conversation an orange haired girl seemed to be having with upperclassmen in the row before him, taking notice only in the change of atmosphere that announced the beginning of the ceremony.

With the dim of the lights followed tedious sermont from the staff, successfully lulling Luffy to sleep and garnering the drowsiness of Zoro with unceremonious yawning breaking free from his jaw.

“And now, please welcome our student council president Tashigi.” A round of applause followed, failing to catch the attention of Zoro, who watched the school staff succeed his place to a uniform dressed student.

Only at the sight of her familiar looking figure, did Zoro’s eyes jolt open, his senses suddenly attentive, his breath hanging by his throat at the serious expression of the student council president who quite frightenedly resembled his childhood friend Kuina whom he had left behind for his new life. And with memories of their time together flooding Zoro’s mind, wondering where she was and how she was, the lights of the auditorium popped open, synchronizing with Luffy’s awakening and leaving Zoro with the realization that he had spaced out for most of the ceremony.

“Finally over, let’s get out of here,” Luffy tiredly stated, pulling Zoro out of his train of thought alongside him, before both slowly made their way through the crowd, much to Luffy’s annoyance and into the exit.

Following his breaking free of the horde of students, Luffy dashed towards the school ground through the nearest exit. His impulsivity knew no bounds, and through the hard way, Zoro started learning as much. “Wait, Luffy!” He yelled after him, the thought of being alone scaring him after having tasted the blissful experience of company.

“This school is so big, it makes me want to go on an adventure and explore it!” He screamed, a giggle having found its way on his previously grim facade along with the jolt of his head at every turn.

“We can do that during lunch!” Zoro shouted, picking up pace to keep up, “we should head to class before we're late!” Being private and all, the school was pretty strict with its rules, even making them irontight — or so according to his sister. Plus with every student making their way to their classes, it was a surefire that they now stood out like vegetables amidst a fruit salad to whoever saw them right now.

“You've got it all wrong,” a loud voice tried to explain, stopping Zoro and Luffy in their tag game to look at the surrendered raised hand of an orange haired girl towards two towering older students.

“Tell us what we don't get, mhm?” One asked.

“The way we see it, you've pickpocketed our money and you're currently trying to talk your way out of it,” the other threatened.

“Quite the cocky student aren't you?” The first one spit out.

Exchanging an unsure look of how to proceed, Zoro and Luffy silently kept their distance until their attention got claimed towards the scene once again.

“Oh, there they are!” The girl exclaimed upon seeing the passing figures of Zoro and Luffy.

“Huh?” Luffy tilted his head, pointing a finger towards his face while Zoro crossed his arms, his eyes surveying the girl who according to what he understood placed herself in this situation on her own. Trouble was near, and he wished she wouldn’t come so close either.

“Hey you two, took you long enough to arrive here,” she slipped from the distracted towering figures who directed their fury towards the new arrivant, to strut towards them in an amicable manner, her hand waving.

“Ah! You're also a first year!” Luffy grinned, thinking she might have known of their grade already.

“Yeah that's right!” a business smile flashed their way, making Zoro uneasy as he felt the upcoming doom lurk over the girl’s shoulder like a cursed spirit.

“Who are you?” he asked in an attempt to keep his first day as clean as possible.

“Did you forget already? It's me Nami,” she said pointing a hand towards her chest, “I swear you two can be quite the airheads at times,” she shook her head.

Persistently eyeing her in a suspicious manner, it was evident the girl had a hidden talent at waltzing her way with people, extracting what she needed from them as the ruffian's angered voices boomed like thunder. “So you're the ones who told her to steal money from us aren't you?”

Zoro scoffed at them for falling to such an obvious trick despite the anger it seemed to arouse in the seniors. If people were so gullible, maybe this school wasn’t all high and mighty.

“Who're they?” Luffy asked, perking his head towards the approaching upperclassmen who cracked their knuckles in an ominous way.

“Bullies!” Nami declared, pointing a finger to them, “they're the worst and this school could really use someone to teach them a lesson.”

Upon better look at their disheveled uniforms, poorly hidden tattoos and scowl, it was as though their broken track record unveiled itself through their typical delinquent appearance. “You can't be serious,” Zoro mumbled, seeing as they were about to bring a fight to him on the first day. No but seriously, wasn't this supposed to be a private school? So why were its students so easily resorting to violence, and most importantly why were they looting off one another? One would’ve expected troubles to be resolved through wits and eloquence.

“Bullies are the one thing I can't stand,” Luffy lowered his head, hiding it behind his straw hat, his voice and physical build synching into a serious tone.

A flicker of an awed expression crossed Nami's face, as she admired the reliable way in which the form of Luffy seemed to transform. “That's right, it's two agaisn't two, you guys have a chance!” She encouraged somewhat forcefully, raising a fist in support.

“Alright, let's take care of it,” Luffy roared, leaping towards one of the upperclassmen, and to everyone's surprise skillfully landing the first blow.

So we're completely ignoring the part where she stole their money, Zoro reflected, letting his legs race towards the other senior and effortlessly dodging the first punch. First impressions be damned — his clenched fist flew to meet the jaw of his opponent, who in turn, terribly taken aback by the force of the blow, instinctively stepped back.

Exhaling despite not breaking a sweat, the training swordsman peered over at the recoiled senior, smirking at the sight of blood that dripped from the corner of his mouth and nose. “This all you've got?” He provoked, throwing his bag on the floor.

Feeling the heat of the battle coursing through his veins, Zoro arched an eyebrow in invitation towards his opponent. But as the pounding of Luffy’s blows on the other senior filled the tensed air, Zoro found himself facing a fleeing opponent and visibly letting his disappointment show on his face, before enviously looking at the high Luffy’s battle reached. All bark but no bites — students here truly were all but extraordinary Zoro thought, while side glancing towards the take off the other hooligan soon took from a satisfied Luffy.

He might've unceremoniously gotten into a fight on his first day, but thankfully managed to not soil the uniform his father had gone out of his way to iron and prepare for him. As such, careful hands found, dusted and readjusted his bag on his shoulder, while his eyes inspected the clothing fabric, making sure no foreign blood had mislanded on it.

“Where is she?” Luffy tilted his head left and right, seemingly trying to locate the orange haired girl and gaining the attention of the training swordsman.

With the two upperclassmen gone, the only people left outside were the two of them. “That girl—” Zoro's mouth gaped in bewilderment, “she makes us fight for her only to disappear like that,” he muttered in anger. Truly, the people here were quite something.

“I couldn't even ask her if she wanted to be our friend,” Luffy's lips curved downwards in disappointment.

“Forget her, we'll really be in trouble if we don't head to class now.” Zoro might have gained a friend, but at the thought of possibly deceiving his father along with the mean spirited laugh he'd receive from his sister by getting in trouble, worry had found its way back into the nook of his conscience.

“You're right, we should probably go,” Luffy nodded, and began leading the way inside through a run.

Usopp is a small-time TV actor and he fell in love with sanji during a shoot where he did the catering.

Nami is the owner of a Marmelade Store and met Vivi that way since Vivi absolutely adores Marmelade

Brook is also a musician and has a very strong and aggressive stanbase

Franky and robin run a body shop where robin is an accountant.

Luffy is basically a groupie for the whitebeards.

Jimbei runs a seafood restaurant.
