In honour of Black History Month (1 October 2022 to 31 October 2022): recognize this sweet-faced teenager? It’s 19-year-old single mother and aspiring singer Anna Mae Bullock – who grew up to be fierce rhythm and blues sex tigress Tina Turner! This caption from the essential ikeandtinaturner page on Instagram fills in the details: “Tina photographed in 1958. She graduated from Sumner High School in St. Louis this year and she worked as a nurse's aide at Barnes-Jewish Hospital to provide for her son Craig who was born in August 1958. She also sang with Ike's Kings of Rhythm on a part-time basis. In August 1958, she appeared on her first recording, "Boxtop," credited as Little Ann alongside Ike and fellow Kings of Rhythm singer Carlson Oliver.” (If you’ve never heard the song “Boxtop”, Google it – Tina’s wailing voice is already instantly identifiable).

Books Read in the Month of July 2022!
Here it is already the end of another month. Where does the time go? We are now a little over half way through the year! I have been busy as usual reading some wonderful books for the month of July of 2022. Here are the 9 books I read and reviewed for July. I might have read even more if I didn’t have a few WIP. But I always seemed to have a WIP! That fact never stops me! I hope you enjoy reading…

"Okay, so it is bad," She admits, leaning over from where she sits next to me, wrapping me in her arms. "But no matter the result, you have me. And your mom. And we will do everything we can to find this Pierre man on the little info you have," She assures, bringing on the tears.
"I hate you."
"I love you too," She returns, the ringer going off and ruining our moment.
"What's it say?" I can't help but ask upon hearing her silence.

A woman who sexually assaulted a teenage boy while drunk and threatened a man with a knife on a separate occasion has been given a suspended sentence.
Delyth Davies, 36, from Maes Meurig, Gwalchmai, on Anglesey, had a 21 month sentence suspended for two years at Caernarfon Crown Court.
Judge Nicola Saffman decided to give her a chance to "stop the cycle of drunken offending".
Davies had pleaded guilty at earlier hearings to a charge of sexual assault and one of possessing a knife and threatening behaviour, with the offending happening in October 2022.
The court heard that Davies kissed a 15-year-old boy in a sexualised way and asked him if he wanted to have sex on 7 March 2022 in Llangefni.
The teenager, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, suffered from anxiety because of the attack and the incident had affected his GCSE school work, the judge was told.
In a separate incident in October 2022, Davies had become involved in a large group confrontation, after drinking heavily, and threatened one of the group with a knife.
Defence barrister Elen Owen said her client was ashamed of her actions and that the two incidents, as well as a string of previous convictions "all speak of problems with alcohol".
The judge warned Davies that failure to comply with the conditions of her suspended sentence could lead to her being brought back to court and the prison sentencing being applied.
For the charge of sexual assault, Davies was given a nine month sentence, and for threatening a man with a knife, 12 months.
The sentences run consecutively, but were suspended for 24 months.
She must complete a rehabilitation order, will be tagged and is placed under a curfew for six months.

I'm just gonna go on a rant real quick, on
Why 2021 - 2024 are the Worst Years of my Life
TRIGGER WARNING: May contain references of violence, and illness. The reader's discretion is advised.
Ever since March 13th of 2020, about 4 years ago, the world has gone downhill because of the fear of death. The Coronavirus ruined everything. I'll give you my rundown.
In 2020, COVID kicked everyone's ass. The USA was quarantined for two weeks. Toilet paper was vanishing left and right. Everyone stayed home for what seemed like forever.
In 2021, Friday Night Funkin' became the hot new thing. I made two new blogs. I met @oogaboogaspookyman for the first time, and his actions will forever change how I see things, for the better. My boyfriend moved away to another state, so we had to part ways. My negligent sister (she was living with me, my brother and my mom at the time) whom I will call Jessica, has finally moved out of our house. Things were going great for the first 10 months, but then December 5th came. My mom was diagnosed with COVID. Now, WE had to stay home for 2 MORE weeks. My narcissistic sister (who only had 1 kid at the time) whom I will call Karen, stayed with us. Everyone was trapped in their rooms. I had my own, my brother had HIS own, my sister and her son shared one, my mom had her own, you know the drill. It was kind of cool, staying home for 2 weeks, finally having my own room after a decade of sharing one with at least one of my brothers. It felt like I could do anything without anyone looking. We were quarantined, so why not? Once the quarantine was lifted, it was already Christmastime, and we only had a week to shop. After the quarantine was lifted, I felt my first case of derealization. Words cannot describe how awful it felt. Everything was blurry, but... not blurry... at the same time. It felt like everything was shifting, but not moving. I remembered myself standing in my room, feeling really weirded out and scared that everything was losing its form. Then, it stopped. I couldn't sleep for the rest of the night.
In 2022, Sonic.EXE became popular again. I finally got a Meta Quest 2 VR headset. Karen officially moved in with us. That was her first mistake. She should've just stayed with my drunk-as-all-hell dad who lived next door. I was introduced to Ori and the Blind Forest. I loved it. It became my favorite game. Then, what clicked in my head, verified me as... a furry. That just made matters worse. People at school made fun of/bullied me for being an "EwW fUrRy WhY dOn't YoU cHoOsE a DiFfErEnT pAtH???" I became more violent as time went on. Why are people like this? Why do people call someone out for the stupidest reasons?
In 2023, I was invited to the dark side of the moon. New peeps in the world (and my house) so my two sisters, Karen, and another who I will call Georgia, had kids. Georgia and her boyfriend were driven out of their house by roaches, so they moved with us. Both of my sisters became greedy little shit stains. Now, we have 3 maggots running around the house. I suffered through my second case of derealization. This time, I'm sharing a room with my brother yet again. I hate it. But, I'm sure glad I have a Wii again. My hyperfixation is now Night in the Woods again. We went camping. It was fun. It was... fine...
Now, 2 months ago, my aunt, who I will call Dorothy, passed away due to an overdose. This rocked me to my core. Rest in peace, aunt Dorothy. The house, in shambles. My sanity, running low. Poppy Playtime Chapter 3 came out. I now have a new hyperfixation: the Smiling Critters. Things were not looking good.
It is now March 4th, 2024. I feel like absolute shit. I have too many assignments and projects to catch up on. My life is becoming more and more similar to Mae Borowski's.
I now know how @thelonelyfeline feels.
My life is starting to become the vibes of this song.

i miss you but you don’t even remember me
we never really spoke to each other. you don’t even know what i look like but i still miss you. i was the child that randomly walked into your life and then refused to leave because i needed you. i was young and i was in pain but you were there for me. i learnt everything about you but you didn’t ever want to know anything about me.
Tumblr media
on one day you told me you were just like an onion with ‘many layers to your personality’ and i thought that was the most fascinating analogy ever. and then i read about it in a book.
love, rosie // 2004
Tumblr media Tumblr media
another day you said you were watching ‘the breakfast club’. i asked you what that was and you said, ‘obviously, you wouldn’t know about it.’ i thought i’ll watch it some day. i still haven’t.
the breakfast club // 1985
Tumblr media
you told me your birthdate and i spent months trying to contact grant gustin through his manager just because you told me you loved watching ‘the flash’. i wanted to give you an incredible gift but ended up making an elaborate presentation. i still remember your birthday and i send you a message every year which i delete within a week because i’m embarrassed that i haven’t forgotten it when nothing of me remains in your memory.
instagram 'happy birthday' text // 2022
Tumblr media Tumblr media
you told me you wrote poetry and played basketball and that reminded me of troy bolton from high school musical. you said you also knew ballroom dancing. i thought you were the coolest person i’d ever met.
high school musical 1 and 3 // 2006, 2008
Tumblr media
my favorite book is ‘the perks of being a wallflower’. i read this quote and started getting teary-eyed because it reminded me of you. you were to me what charlie’s anonymous friend was to him. i didn’t mean to trouble you but i guess i did.
the perks of being a wallflower // 1999
Tumblr media
we shared a common love for cats. your favorites were grey british shorthairs with blue eyes. i’d send pictures of them to you constantly.
pictures of cats // grey british shorthairs
Tumblr media
i am not surprised by how little i mean to you since i forced myself into your life. i’m sorry. i truly am sorry. and i’m sorry for constantly coming back into it. i’m sorry for saying i won’t do it again but still sending you long paragraphs pleading for forgiveness for being a nuisance.
sorry for writing all the songs about you // clara mae, 2018
Tumblr media
i know i left abruptly but that was because i was scared you’d leave first. i’ve been left before so i thought it would hurt less to be the one to do the leaving but i guess i was wrong. i still miss you. and i think about you whenever i'm sad because i met you when i was at my lowest.
summertime sadness // lana del rey, 2012
Tumblr media
- missing someone is painful. there’s always feelings of grief and sorrow that comes with reminiscing memories with them. but the most devastating feeling is when the person you miss doesn’t even remember you exist. when you’re nothing more than a faint memory of their past but to you, they were everything. you thought about them for the years that followed even though it hurt you every time they crossed your mind -

Pride Month list part 2: book edition
I read a lot (and I mean a lot) of queer books, especially during my YA phase ages 15-17, but here are a few that have particularly stood out to me, and why you should read them:
Maurice by E.M. Forster (published posthumously in 1971): everything you'd want from an early 20th century romance, except it's gay, and arguably the best piece of 20th century queer literature
On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong (2019): absolutely heartwrenching, will have you gasping for air in between sobs, and it's written by a poet so you KNOW the prose is amazing
Young Mungo by Douglas Stuart (2022): set in 1990s Glasgow, will absolutely rip your heart out and tear it to shreds
Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo (2021): 1950s lesbian coming of age during the red scare, need I say more?
Don't Cry for Me by Daniel Black (2022): written in the form of letters, from a Black father to his gay son
Swimming in the Dark by Tomasz Jedrowski (2020): for some reason, no one seems to have read this, and they absolutely should have. will, once again, leave you in sobs (I am beginning to suspect I might cry easily)
My Government Means to Kill Me by Rasheed Newson (2022): another underhyped one, about race and sexuality during the AIDS crisis
Un Garçon d'Italie by Philippe Besson (2003): one of the narrators is literally a rotting corpse, that should be intriguing enough
A Single Man by Christopher Isherwood (1964), Confusion by Stefan Zweig (1927), Rubyfruit Jungle by Rita Mae Brown (1973) and Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin (1956) because, if you're like me, you're desparate to find queer literature from before the 1990s
Angels in America by Tony Kushner (1993), much quicker to read than to watch though, unfortunately, you do not have Andrew Garfield as Prior Walter in the written version
Ace of Spades by Faridah Abiké-Iyimidé (2021) starts with a quote from Get Out and that tells you everything you need to know
Ziggy, Stardust and Me by James Brandon (2019) is surprisingly rich for YA, exploring homosexuality in the 1970s, conversion therapy and Native American identity
Crush by Richard Siken (2005) if you're more into poetry, particularly the kind that will bring you physical and emotional pain
Dykes to Watch Out For by Alison Bechdel (1986) because you can't not read Alison Bechdel
The Charm Offensive by Alison Cochrun (2021), The Feeling of Falling in Love by Mason Deaver (2022), and She Drives Me Crazy by Kelly Quindlen (2021) are the perfect romcoms if you want to switch your brain off for a few hours (or emotionally recover from half of the other books on this list)

OHOHOH I have a good idea for a request :> possibly could I get either headcanons or a scenario, you can choose, of Kris with a reader who had a simular kind of incident to the one Mae Borowski had in NITW? (if you don't know what that is its p easy to search it up there's a whole wiki page for it) hope that made sense!!!!
This has been sitting in my asks for so many months along with a few other posts. I wont lie to you. I forgot my password. Fixed that issue though so here we are. I'm writing this little preamble thing December 10th 2022 so lets see how long it takes me to write this whole thing. Hope you enjoy.

Wise parents in Hometown warn their kids to stay away from them.
Kids too little to even remember why they're supposed to be scared scurry off and kids old enough to remember keep their heads down and walk past them.
The outburst of the only other human in town and the disappearance of Dess Holiday has got to be one of the worst "coincidences" to grace Hometown newspapers ever.
For a while after the incident, you tried your best to recoup your losses. But no matter how hard you seemed to try, no one was interested in humoring your request to be friends anymore.
For 2 years this continued.
To the rest of Hometown you weren't a human, or a monster, but you were a monster. You were a perfect example of why they didn't let many humans live here. A psycho who brutalizes innocent monsters.
That's all you were to them.
You tried to get over it. Can't keep beating yourself up forever right? Time to move on to better things? Right? Your grades began to drop rapidly, bringing you from 3rd in the class to almost last place.
Despite everything, you kept going.
Kris did not understand you. They are one of the very few people who aren't scared of you. They feel for you, as a fellow outcast they get what it's like to just want to curl up in a ball and never leave your bed.
After everything that happened to them, all the yelling, being treated as an outcast, the weird looks, the loneliness, why wouldn't they want to just disappear?
You don't really talk to anyone, sometimes you'll ask them for a pencil but other than that it's effectively radio silence between you and the rest of Hometown.
You rarely smiled, you were rarely seen outside of school or your house, even seeing you at school became a more and more special encounter. You were almost like a secret boss in a video game or something.
You captured Kris' attention and never let go. Why couldn't they stop thinking about you?
"Well that's easy, you have a crush loser." Susie replied to them, throwing another rock into the lake.
Kris didn't believe a word of it.
A crush?
On you?
No way.
No wayyyyy.
Yes way?
I mean just because they thought your smile was so infectious that whenever you wave at them for a pencil they smile, or how even though they know what you did they can't get your face out of their head, or how no matter what you wear you look perfect doesn't mean they have a crush on you!
You probably wouldn't even like them back...
Only one way to find out right?
The sun was setting, signaling for all the other kids to leave the playground and start heading home. Except you. You decided to stay a little longer. Feet brushing through brown mulch below the swing you gently rocked yourself on, hands wrapped around your journal, you heard the sound of footsteps on grass. You glanced up, focusing on the approaching figure which had sat on the swing next to you.
Kris Dreemurr.
After several minutes of uncomfortable silence, Kris broke it.
"I don't think you're a bad person." Kris stated quietly looking to you for your reaction.
"Gee thanks." You said, a little confused with the whole interaction.
"Why don't you come to school anymore?" Kris asked you.
"Why do you care all of a sudden?" You teased, stretching your arms and yawning.
For you, this was just some chance interaction, but for Kris this was now or never.
"Because I miss you." Kris explained quietly.
You froze for a second. Kris missed you? Town crazy person? Wow.
You grinned that crooked grin that Kris couldn't get enough of, before replying.
"Well if you care so much I guess I can show up some more." You proclaimed through your smile.
"I'd like that." Kris said, so quietly you barely heard them.
You stood up from your swing and yawned again. "It's getting late, let me walk you home." You offered.
Kris only nodded before standing up and dusting their pants off. Before they could react you had grabbed their hand and were pulling them along.
Oh.
Oh.
So you did like them back. Would have

anyway this is my favorite fighting game, bar none. this is the game that after years of screwing around on a bunch of other games finally got me to really want to get better and actually play against other people. there’s a super active playerbase and at least another year of support from arcsys on the way. the best time to start playing strive was a year ago but the second best time is right now.
Tumblr media
Idol Showdown (Free)
yes im shilling a free game here. idol showdown is a good fighting game and the result of like three years of hard work from a small team. try it out and give them some love
Tumblr media
Nitroplus Blasterz: Heroines Infinite Duel ($4.99)
this is not a good game but it is a funny game. saber is in it.
Narrative Games
Tumblr media
AI: The Somnium Files - $7.99
one of the finest mystery games you can play imo. maybe uchikoshi’s best work. a perfect blend of mystery, character, and style. every character and conversation is compelling in its own way and every little thing builds up to the huge moments which makes them all feel totally earned. as always uchikoshi is a genius in the way he blends his signature branching timeline style with the themes and core concepts of the game. the twists and turns this game goes down are so crazy that weeks later you’ll still be realizing how all the little things you thought were just quirks were actually foreshadowing. cannot recc this enough tbh.
Tumblr media
Zero Escape: The Nonary Games - $11.99
another uchikoshi joint, also extremely good. ive only finished 999, the first game in this collection, but i can recc it just based on the strength of that alone. whereas somnium is a murder mystery, 999 is a visual novel about being trapped in a murder game interspliced with escape room segments. whatever you think you know you dont, 999 will take you down so many twists and turns you’ll be fucking dizzy when you’re done with it. big recc.
Tumblr media
VA-11 HALL-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action - $10.04
i could probably talk about this game for as long as the others, even though its way way less complex. va-11 hall-a doesnt have a huge sweeping story with insane twists and massive reveals, but what it does have is an extremely personal narrative about loss, healing, and just living your life the best way you can in a horrible dystopian world. the cast of characters feel utterly real and you learn about the world they inhabit through interactions with them, rather than being infodumped by exposition. everyone has their own story and everyone is just trying to get by, including you. one of the best small scale personal narrative games ive ever played.
Tumblr media
Night In The Woods - $9.99
another vn i would consider “small scale” but equally as impactful. nitw is a story about a disillusioned and struggling college drop out returning to her economically declining home town. nobody is secure, nobody is happy, everyone is suffering through their daily lives. you follow mae as she struggled to readjust to her childhood home and the people she left behind. until something happens that changes her priorities radically. all ill say. despite how i just made it sound, nitw is not all depressing. theres lighthearted moments and wacky days to cut through the bleak fog, as well as genuinely heartfelt moments that feel very earned. nitw is a game i think that everyone struggling through their 20s should play.
Tumblr media
Grim Fandango Remastered ($3.79)
i know this is an old school adventure game and you might yell at me for sort of grouping it in with the VNs but i dont care. its a classic, its a beautiful game, everyone should play it. its old, it controls like shit, the puzzles are obtuse, but the experience is wonderful and memorable. its cheap as hell just go for it.
Action
Tumblr media
Assault Spy ($4.99)
this goofy ass game is fun as hell. its a very dmc style character action with upgrades and moves to buy, and it actually has a pretty goddamn good mechanical system in place. the gameplay loop rules. only warning is this is not well optimized so watch your computer doesnt explode.
Tumblr media
Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered ($40.19)
i shouldn’t even have to shill. a must play for any spider-man fan. one the best spider-man stories ever hands down. such an incredible experience seriously. i cant even say enough here, if you haven’t played this yet you should do it asap.
Tumblr media
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales ($33.49)
everything i just said for the first game goes here too. a MUST play for miles morales fans. the combat is even better than the first too. you won’t regret playing this trust me.
Tumblr media
Marvel’s Avengers - The Definitive Edition ($5.99)
no i’m not joking. ok well i kind of am but this game is getting delisted in september. it is an unforgivably mid piece of shit but if you have an interest in game preservation or playing something so bad they’re killing it forever, well here it is. they made all the microtransactions free btw.
Others
Tumblr media
Tinykin ($13.75)
its like pikmin but its legally distinct! i like this game a lot, it has a very cute art style and its got easy to enjoy gameplay. i find it very relaxing. there’s a demo.
Tumblr media
System Shock 2 ($2.49)
i will never stop shilling this game. fucking play it. its a cornerstone of video games. one of the most influential pieces ever put to pixel. you owe it to yourself to experience this if you feel any interest in it. maybe read a guide though its unforgiving if you screw around with your build.
Tumblr media
Dead Space [2023] ($41.99)
exceptionally good. i dont have to shill the old shitty pc port of the original anymore. an A+ remake, i think it improves on the original in every conceivable way.
Tumblr media
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night ($11.99)
such a goddamn good metroidvania. its almost like the platonic ideal of a castlevania game. a true spiritual successor to SOTN. this isnt your dime a dozen soulslike vania, this is a true vania game in the best original style made by basically one of the core founders of the genre.
Tumblr media
STAR WARS™ Knights of the Old Republic™ II - The Sith Lords™ ($3.49)
its a fuckin classic rpg. one of the best of the era. get it on pc so you can get that extended content mod they promised to import to the console version and then cancelled.
Tumblr media
Save Room - Organization Puzzle ($2.09)
this is just a cute puzzle game. i like it.

Back by unpopular demand, it's my top albums of 2023! While 2022 suffered a dearth of good artists that made it impossible to cobble together a top 10, I struggled this year to whittle my 50(!!)-album shortlist down to my top.
Same rules as always: everything on this list is a full-length album (no EPs) of largely previously unreleased material (no reissues, no cover albums, no Taylor's Version) arranged in an intentional manner (no B-sides or rarities albums). Now, behold!
Tumblr media
10. DOG PARK DISSIDENTS - THE PINK AND BLACK ALBUM
I hope I'm not the only punk frustrated with the decline of queer rage in the music scene. Everyone's sad and no one is angry. If you're sick of being well-behaved, this is the album for you. I've been a Dog Park Dissidents fan for years now, and I'm thrilled to see them put out an LP, especially one as great as this one.
9. SINCERE ENGINEER - CHEAP GRILLS
Something everyone needs to know about me: I love a girlflop. There is nothing more endearing than an absolute disaster of a woman, and no one is flopping through life quite like Deanna Belos. Her third album brings her scratchy-voiced brashness into her early 30s, and as much as I hope for an end to her crisis, at least she has a good soundtrack going.
8. ALL GET OUT - ALL GET OUT
Wouldn't it be easy if I didn't listen to any albums? If I just put my favorite bands in the top ten and said "that's enough hard work, I think"? Well, I don't, because sometimes there's a surprise. All Get Out has frustrated me for a while, as their Southern-fried brand of rock and roll is something I should like, but they never seemed to put it all together... until now.
7. BLONDSHELL - BLONDSHELL
Sabrina Mae Teitelbaum showed up at the eleventh hour to wreck my rankings. I was unaware of Blondshell until they opened for Liz Phair a month ago, and I was intrigued enough to follow up and listen to her debut. Her stage presence needs some work -- unlike, say, Foxing's latest album, which I learned to love once I heard it live, I think Blondshell is better recorded -- but if this is her first effort, I can't wait to see what she does next.
6. ZZ WARD - DIRTY SHINE
2023 was the year of blues rock artists going independent, and their music was all the better for it. The Record Company was a late cut for my honorable mentions, but ZZ takes the sixth spot here. There was a lot riding on Dirty Shine: she was independent and had been mostly silent since the pandemic. With some of the tightest production I've seen this year, she hasn't missed a step.
5. QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE - IN TIMES NEW ROMAN...
Talk about someone who's been through the wringer since their last album. Josh Homme battled cancer, alcoholism, and a bitter divorce, and his band's latest release is one of pent-up rage. It bears strong shades of 2007's Era Vulgaris, which was divisive in its own time, and as a result, some might hate In Times New Roman... for its looser, crunchier sound. For me? It's exactly what I like to hear.
4. SPANISH LOVE SONGS - NO JOY
I have a confession: I'm a terrible album reviewer. It takes me weeks or months to listen to something new, even for my favorite artists, like Spanish Love Songs. I didn't get around to No Joy until just before I went to see SPL open for Hot Mulligan, at which point I felt like the time had come. This album was an acquired taste, smoother and more polished than 2020's Brave Faces, Everyone, but like Frightened Rabbit's 2016 Painting of a Panic Attack, the sparser sound lets you focus on what Dylan et al. are trying to say, and you can soon tell No Joy is an album that needed to come out for his own sake.
3. HEART ATTACK MAN - FREAK OF NATURE
Speaking of "late on the draw," behold Heart Attack Man, a band I should have loved... if I ever got around to listening to them. They hang around all the same scenes my other favorite bands do (in fact, Hot Mulligan also brought them along on their most recent tour), and yet I never got around to exploring them until this June, when they played in Philly for $20 tickets. Good thing my impulses won out, because this album is what punk should be (and something it's been sorely missing).
2. HOT MULLIGAN - WHY WOULD I WATCH?
After shouting them out in the last two entries, I have to give Hot Mulligan their flowers. They're a strange band, having more in common with Dance Gavin Dance than, say, The Wonder Years. It's progressive post-hardcore for Midwest emos, and although the individual songs on Why Would I Watch? are on par with any individual song from a previous release, they do something here that elevates them above their other work: put out an album, rather than a collection of songs.
1. FIREWORKS - HIGHER LONELY POWER
It was always going to be Fireworks. They released this album on January 1 after a long hiatus, giving me an entire year to have this LP rattle in my brain and linger in my bones. Higher Lonely Power combines several trends found on the rest of this list -- a new sound that needed to grow on me, a need to shake off the rust of a hiatus, a band I took far too long to get to know. They're my favorite band's favorite band for a reason, and Higher Lonely Power is a gorgeous mediation on love, death, and aging. A worthy album of the year if ever there were one.

byebyelemonpie's july 2023 recommendations
My july top 5 movies:
Nimona (2023, dir: Troy Quane, Nick Bruno) [First time watch] Nimona is a shapeshifter who wants to be an evil sidekick. This premise is already brilliant, but this movie adds to it a lot of love, acceptance and so many feelings that made me cry a lot, and it suddenly became one of my favourite movies of the year. Add to this wonderful animation and really funny sequences: genuinely a perfect movie. -
Rye Lane (2023, dir: Raine Allen-Miller) [First time watch] This was cute and fun! A very nice indie British romcom that is mostly set over the course of one day. Almost like Before Sunrise, but with more messy situations and, maybe, lies? -
Fire Island (2022, dir: Andrew Ahn) [First time watch] Five guys spend a week at a gay retreat on an island: will they find love? I still cannot get over how this movie is a queer version of Pride and Prejudice. I loved how clever it was at translating the story in a more modern (and more gay?) setting and I loved how well the characters were developed. -
Barbie (2023, dir: Greta Gerwig) [First time watch] My goodness, this was just a fun movie! The photography and direction were perfect in composing this story about the dolls most people grew up with. It was fun and lighthearted (the songs sung by the Kens were hilarious), but it was also a thoughtful piece of media talking about feminism and inequality, and the fact that not everybody knows what their place in the world is, but just being there is (K)enough. Just lovely. -
Another Cinderella Story (2008, dir: Damon Santostefano) [Rewatch after twelve years] This was a blast from the past! Sometimes I still hum to myself Tell Me Something I Don't Know, but rewatching the movie it came from was an experience. Recently I had also rewatched the Hilary Duff Cinderella Story, but I found the Selena Gomez one a bit more fun: maybe the dances and the songs made it feel less long? I'm not sure.
Favourite series in july:
Good Omens - season 2 (UK/USA, 2023) [First time watch] Aziraphale and Crowley need to take care of an Archangel with amnesia, make two women fall in love, and reminisce of their history together while not talking about any of that at all. Binge-watching this show is always tragic, because sure! I want to see my favourite supernatural entities do things and interact and fall for each other a little, but once I arrive at the last episode wide-eyed and speechless (actually in my notebook I wrote "Shaking Crying Screaming", but who's counting), what am I supposed to do to wait for the fated conclusion except re-re-re-re-rewatch the whole thing again? -
Little Women (South Korea, 2022) [First time watch] This is the story of three sisters who are poor and try to live in a rich world. What could happen if they found each other involved with rich people and join a long string of suicides, murders, money laundering, and political scandals? The three will have to investigate in the name of justice and to protect their family from the privilege and power that people who are richer than them have. It was very hard to watch the first episodes of this series: they were so heavy that I couldn't get through more than one of them without a headache, so watching this whole thing took me months, but I was fond of the characters and the cinematography being stunning were great incentive not to drop the series at all. -
3 Will Be Free (Thailand, 2019) [First time watch] Three people find themselves inside a mob family affair and they try to escape, while getting to know and growing fond of each other. I loved the characters!! The three main character were very easy to like, from an audience perspective, but I found myself rooting for Mae most of all: she was the best character of the show, in my opinion. -
Abbott Elementary - season 2 (USA, 2022/23) [First time watch] As usual, this sitcom brings me laughter and happiness, and makes me think fondly of my time as a kindergarten teacher (which ended last May). The situations these characters find themselves in as usual are blown out of proportion and their response to them is always hilarious, but the fact that they could happen is very realistic and fighting for the right to a free education for all is very important. I hope that after the Writers and Actors' Strike this show will continue, because it is lovely, and one of the few US sitcoms from recent years that I enjoyed watching.

Mae Govannen!
Hard to believe that it’s already been two months since the finale and that there are almost 400 of us and already over 1000 posts on this blog! I have a huge backlog of fan-made content (art, videos, gifs, fun meta, etc.) that I’d like to feature in between the quotes to share the love, especially now that the fandom tags are growing quieter.
But never fear if you’re mostly here for the funny or poignant quotes: We have like two years and I have literally so much quote inspo to get through + quotes made by other lovely fans I’d like to reblog!
Thanks for being a part of this fandom in 2022!

The Barnes Carrick Children
Like I said in my last post, I decided to update my get know the children of Adelaide and Claire and here's Adelaide's.
Tumblr media
Claire Mae Carrick:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her birthday is August 2, 2022
They found out they were pregnant with Claire (and her twin) a few days after they eloped
When they had started to come up with names for her, they wanted to name her after important people in their lives
Both of them thought naming her after Adelaide’s best friend (and one of my other MC’s) Claire would be a good idea (which Claire was thrilled about sharing a name with her non-biological, but still her niece)
Tobias had also suggested using Adelaide’s middle name (Mae) but she wouldn’t cave in until about 2 months before Claire was born.
They also agreed to use Tobias’ last name, since Adelaide wasn’t going to go by her maiden name once they got married.
When Claire grows up, she becomes an actor. She mostly does Broadway musicals like her mother’s favorite, Six.
She then goes on to marry Oliver (Claire and Ethan's son), and they go on to have two daughters.
Ethan Jude Carrick:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
His birthday is August 2, 2022
They found out about Ethan at one of their appointments when they were trying to find a heartbeat but found two instead.
Also like Claire, they decided to name Ethan after someone important.
It took a lot of convincing but Adelaide got Tobias to agree to name him after his bestie Ethan.
Tobias was against using Ethan’s full name to name his son, so they compromised on Jude as his middle name.
Again they used Carrick for his last name.
When Ethan is older, he becomes a writer for different newspaper companies like The Boston Post and The New York Times.
He goes on to marry his co worker, James and they have no children
Atlas Theodore Carrick:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
His birthday is February 16, 2026
When they were thinking of names, Tobias suggested they named him after her twin brother Atlas, which she agreed with.
When they told Atlas, he was shocked but very excited that one of his nephews would have his name.
His last name is also Carrick
Atlas grows up and becomes a music teacher in London.
He goes on to marry a west end actress, Courtney, and they have a girl.
There is Adelaide and Tobias' Children
