I just need to finish sewing the last square and I can start crocheting the border!!!
im super happy cause the baby I'm making this for is getting baptized next saturday and I think getting this done by then is very doable, even if i go around the edges once with just single crochet before doing a scalloped edge like i want to.
worried that thing you put in your art or writing or game or music is too self-indulgent, too self-referential, too niche for anyone but yourself? fear not! you can do whatever you want forever. and you should.
I've been stitching some cicadas lately. This year is going to be a big one for the screaming bugs!
For those interested in making their own cross stitched cicadas, the patterns are available for sale here and here! (Please note: my software skills mean that I had to freehand the AAAAAs rather than place them in the pattern itself, so those are not included in the patterns. This does mean that you can make these little guys uniquely your own and add any sort of scream that you'd like, though!)
You know at first I didn't believe it when fiber artists on tumblr would tell me to be wary of the fiber art slippery slope. And yet. I hear the siren call of the spindle. Fellow crafters help me resist. Tie me to the fucking mast. Please.
*cries in only got this far in making the baby blanket before my friend's baby shower*
{rant and more detailed photos under the cut}
i brought back my carpal tunnel finishing the last two squares and i still have at least a few hours of work left 🥲
. but since i no longer have a deadline hanging over my head (well other than the fact that the baby is due in like a month) I'm gonna take a little extra time and unravel the wonky bit of crochet I did on the middle square.
{around 4 rounds(? rows? i don't know the right term) into looking at how it got all ruffle-y i figured out what i did wrong but didn't have the 3 hours to undo and fix it. }
I'm gonna chalk all the work that im undoing up to learning experience - i did get so much better at crochet in the time i spent working on this one granny square
{all the others are knit cause I have knit at least one scarf and a lil frog prior to starting this, so i was more confident in my ability to do it that way than crochet the whole thing (having said that I can see how much my knitting has improved since i started it - a trained eye could pick out the order i made the squares in)}
I am over all impressed I got as far as I did w/o giving up – this is by far the biggest yarn based project I have ever undertaken
A trevenant I drew for a pokedexxy challenge back in... 2016? maybe? It's been a while, but it's definitely one of my favorite drawings I've ever done. Very proud of both the gradient in the eye as well as the fluffiness of the leaves.
