Story: 4 out of 5 Smut: 5 out of 5

I.. am not sure how I feel about this book lol.

I’m all for a “why choose” romance, but I think I may have met my limit with this one. Four on one is fine, but seven on one? It left me re-reading scenes to make sure I knew where everyone was.

As for the story, I liked it. I think I could have even loved it, but all the smut scenes kind of took away from everything. Which is something I never thought I’d say.

I loved that these “sinners” got a second chance to become judges over their race, but the big showdown seemed… anticlimactic. I felt like the drama could have had more oomph if the smut scenes had been less frequent.

But all in all, the book kept me rather entertained and I will definitely read the next standalone in this series.

Now here are my rambling thoughts..

* Wait a minute, she’s only 16?! Please let there be a time jump in the next chapter.

* Oh yay. Time jump! Eighteen is still young tho 😬 Another time jump, please 🙏🏻

* Ouch. Fate chose the King as her mate and he rejected the bond. What a dick.

While both Sceolan and Nathair have been described this way and that there are random things about their appearance that has been thought of and wanted to put down.

Shared appearance traits:

When glamored they both have dark black with a whisper of blue hair that is considered 'long.'

They have the same height of 6'0 although Sceolan grew to the height first.

Neither of the kids have sclera...somewhat lucky on their parents' part.

Both of their eyes are blue with a small 'starburst' of vermilion and silver from the pupil that scatters into flecks.

They have brown skin

The twins are a mix of their parents but they usually clock as one parent first (Sceolan/Balmoral and Nathair/Mhoirbheinn) but if you looked at them with the other, they do have similarities to them as well.

At this point in their lives, Nathair and Sceolan very much look related. They have more similarities than differences and honestly really the air they give off is whom they more look like at that moment.

Sceolan appearance traits:

Unglamored, her hair has more of a misty glow on the underside to her hair. Much like illumination lightning gives to clouds during a storm.

Unglamored, Sceolan has veins that look like lightning just beneath the surface. Actually this is like the black veins of Mhoirbheinn's unglamored form.

Sceolan has a smile that is just like Mhoirbheinn's.

Her more commanding and upfront presence does attribute to how she is 'easily' Balmoral's kid.

Nathair appearance traits:

Unglamored, his hair has an oil slick coloring (purples, blues) to his hair. It is more noticeable with some lighting.

Unglamored, Nathair has dark 'talons' that sprawl into lichtenburg figures across his forearm that seem to meld with his veins and glow.

Growing up, Nathair was a dead ringer for a young Mhoirbheinn (only real difference was his hair was longer).

When Nathair was younger, he and Sceolan looked less alike because he was much paler than her. This changed as he got older.

Which animals do you associate each of your characters with?

Love questions like these!! Because I actually put thought into animal associations when I make and write my characters, it's so fun. It not only has to do with visual traits and personality, but also plot-relevant symbolism. They're not major clues to anything, but sort of just fun add-ins? Part of the accumulative things that lay the path some characters go down? Also, not all of these of entirely significant symbolism, because some of these characters are were-creatures or half-creature or other folkloric beings and those influence associations.

Zena Moralis - bear (hint: this is why Athanasios takes the form he does when he reincarnates)

Geronimo - barn owl (note: his animal companion is Alfreda, the barn owl who just sort of hangs around)

Echo - scorpion

Florence Escoffier - fox

Kamali Wynn - cat

Esmeray Badawi - freshwater/river fish (if you had to associate her with a specific one, pick a species in Turkish waters. I don't have a set one yet, but she is from the rivers of alternate Turkey (for mermaid reasons)).
