A new tool utilizing neural networks seeks to improve the landscape of cancer diagnostics by providing a rapid and accurate mechanism to classify CNS tumors in an intraoperative setting.

Primary treatments for tumors of the nervous system usually involve the excision of the tumor through surgery, this is a difficult procedure to perform, requiring surgeons to make decisions regarding how much of it can be excised without posing a threat to the neural system and increasing the chances of comorbidity.

The determination of the kind of tumor is crucial to be able to identify the necessity and amount of resection that can be feasibly carried out. Certain tumors are presently viewed as being incurable, hence, the surgeon’s aim while operating on a patient must be to acquire tissue samples for proper diagnosis while preserving the patient’s quality of life as much as possible. However, it may be beneficial to attempt a complete resection as possible for other kinds of tumors, as it improves survival.

Решила сегодня немного поиграться с нейронками и для этого выбрала приложение Selfie Ai. Оно работает очень просто: выбираешь стиль, закидываешь фотографию и получаешь результат. Если не понравилось можно генерировать столько картинок, сколько понадобится чтобы вышло приемлемо. Там довольно много разделов, но, к сожалению, часть из них платная. С моими фотографиями оно справилось неплохо, поэтому я решила дать ему задачку посложнее и закинула несколько музейных картин из своей галереи телефона.

Я остановилась на стиле "Colorful illustration", потому что мне показалось, что в нем меньше всего косяков.

Некоторые изображения получились с первой попытки, а с другими пришлось повозиться. Например на Маркизу де Помпадур (последняя картина) ушло где-то 6-7 заходов. В итоге самой нормальной вышла самая откровенная картинка. Кстати, тут она мне напоминает Райден из Геншина.

В целом, результатом я осталась довольна, может быть ещё попробую поразвлекаться с другими стилями.

A breakthrough by a group of researchers at New York University resulted in the development of an interpretable neural network that can explain the process by which it reached its predictions. This is revolutionary for both genomics as well as for artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) because up until now, we did not really have a clear understanding of how exactly the AI and ML tools derive accuracy.

This neural network was initially created for the purpose of answering biological questions that are specifically related to genomics. It was aimed at helping us understand splicing better; it is the process that facilitates the transfer of DNA to RNA, which ultimately leads to the production of proteins. The researchers found that a hairpin-like conformation of RNA can halt the splicing process, and they cross-verified this finding by following standard experimental protocols in the lab as well.
